Allusions In T. C. Boyle s Greasy Lake
Allusions at the Lake The story Greasy Lake, by T.C. Boyle, is about a man recounting a tale
from his younger days. The man and his two friends, Jeff and Digby decide to go looking for
trouble, and take the narrator s mother s Bel Air up to the local hangout spot, Greasy Lake.
They see a car that believes is their friend Tony s and decide to harass Tony, but it happens to be
not the one which caused stranger greasy guy to fight the three. Originally losing, it takes the
narrator sneakily using a tire iron to beat the greasy guy. The girl gets out of the car, and when
the narrator, Jeff and Digby see her, they attempt to rape her. However, they are interrupted by an
approaching car, and in their guilt flee. The narrator flees into the lake where he comes across a
body. He waits in the lake however, while the men that arrived in the car damage his mother s
Bel Air. Eventually they leave though, and the young men come out of hiding after a long time
of waiting. They decide it s time to go after the dead body s friends had arrived. Boyle s central idea
is that young society does what they can to be seemed cool; however, in reality they... Show more

The author uses personifications, such as when the Chevy winks at them as they entered the dirt
lot. There are similes, such as how his heart was, turning over like a dirt bike in the wrong gear.
Additionally the narrator uses countless allusions that appear throughout the entirety of the story.
Examples are his reference to the movie, The Virgin Spring, the use of zeppelin as a comparison,
or the use of Toltec masks to show the unimpressed nature of the greasy character. There are many
more figures of speech throughout the story, but overall the use of the figures of speech help
develop the story and provide to the imagery of it. They help give the reader something to connect
the scenes to that they might more easily

Ancient Societies Collapse Research Paper
Throughout history there have been an untold number of societal collapses; some have been
studied completely and others forgotten in history. As time passes and new innovations are
created, so are new paths for collapse. However, the downfalls of the ancient civilizations are
also applicable in today s society. With decades of archaeological and historical research, theories
have arisen as to why these societies collapsed and what humans of today can do to avoid a similar
fate.
While many collapses are thought to have occurred from several factors compounding over many
years, most can be attributed to three main issues: the environment, war, and trade. Environmental
changes seem to have the quickest and most drastic affect on civilizations, ... Show more content on

The most likely way that current society will collapse would be a large scale environmental change
that affects a majority of the Earth. In the most dramatic case, if a climate changing event such as a
volcanic eruption or a heat wave occurred, the effects would be catastrophic. If the event affected
enough of the planet, there would be mass starvation that would eventually lead to the downfall of
human civilization. Also, humans affecting the environment with global warming and using up
natural resources such as oil and trees will create an uninhabitable planet. If the environmental
change only affected a small region, other countries would provide aid and attempt to rebuild
that society. If trade were to disintegrate globally, many societies would collapse due to their
dependence on imported goods and the profit from exported items, similar to Pitcairn and
Henderson. If trade from one country stopped, it would not have as much of an effect seeing as
all of the countries connected and another trade system could be created. For example, if trade
from a country that produces oil stops, many countries would suffer without fuel for a short while
until another trade route from a different country began. Due to the economically interconnected
nature of the world today, it is unlikely that a collapse would happen due to shifting trade.
Another main factor of collapse is war and societies ending due to invasions. A modern day war
could be taken far enough where entire cities are wiped out and civilizations destroyed. For
example, if the War on Terror is continued for long enough, countless societies in West Asia could
be demolished. Ultimately, any of the aforementioned changes could cause a collapse, it merely
depends on the magnitude and severity of the event, and which places are afflicted. Other

English A1 Higher Level World Literature Paper 1

In Camus The Stranger, and Yoshimoto s Kitchen, both authors use the literary technique of
pathetic fallacy a branch of personification which gives to the weather and physical world, human
attributes. In both texts, this technique enriches the narratives both aesthetically and in terms of
meaning by telling the inner emotions of the characters. However, while in Kitchen, the pathetic
fallacy is employed throughout the text, in The Stranger, it takes centre stage only at the most
crucial point in the book with Meursault, the protagonist killing ... Show more content on

The glittering night in this case is thankfully left alone to ring with all its positive connotations;
without the show spoiling, depressing adjective lonely (6) or its companions. With the
reoccurrence of death, loss and with them, sorrow, Mikage says: I watched the gloomy clouds of
the orange of the sunset spreading across them in the western sky. Soon, the cold night would
descend and fill the hollow in my heart (56). Scenery which in better circumstances would have
been a beautiful sunshine and the coming of a peaceful night, become gloomy and cold. Thus,
the spreading and descen[t] are not really of the sunset, or of the night, but of the sorrow that
comes with loss. With the reappearance of hope in the final cycle, the pathetic fallacy is both a
reflection on the past, as well as an evidence of tenacious hope. Mikage says: The moon shone
down from high above, crossing the sky, erasing the stars in its path. It was full. I watched it go
behind a cloud, completely hidden, and re emerge (94). Stars usually have a positive connotation as
they hold light in the sea of the night s darkness However, in this scene, there is a seeming
contradiction as they are eras[ed] (96). This is however merely seeming because with the full
moon, an atmosphere more positive than that of stars in a dark night is created. The moon leaves a

Life Events In Oedipus The King
Life is full of ups and downs, some of which are bigger than others. Besides natural factors
influencing life events, the actions of the people surrounding us make our experiences different.
This was seen in the Socrates Oedipus the King which is about a man, Oedipus, and his journey of
realizing his true self. After King Laius of Thebes was murdered, a curse was placed on Thebes.
Creonis sent to seek the advice of Apollo, who then states that the only way for the curse to be
removed is if the killer of Laius is executed. Tiresias, a blind prophet, tells Oedipusthat he is guilty
for the murder of Laius. Jocastatells Oedipus not to believe in the word of the prophets, as they
have been wrong before, giving the prophecy of her son stating that he would sleep with her, and
murder her husband. Jocasta believed that her son was killed, but she recalls that Oedipus is her
son after he states the same prophecy. After she remembers this, she kills herself and Oedipus
gouges out his eyes. Oedipus experiences an extreme downfall during his time due to his lack of
self knowledge. Queen Jocasta and King Laius are guilty for the degeneration of Oedipus as they
each did not successfully terminate the prophecy, causing Oedipus to experience things he shouldn
t have.
To begin, Queen Jocasta did not end the prophecy in a safe and secure manner. According to
several characters in the play, the prophecy stated that King Laius would be killed by his son, and
that Queen Jocasta would

Sherman Alexie Analysis
Racism has always been an issue in America not just only towards Mexicans or African Americans,
but to Native Americans as well. Throughout history, Native Americans were treated as if they were
inanimate objects that they are beneath us, and even till this day many of them are still being
treated that way. The Native Americans have always been misunderstood what some Americans see
is redskins and not a genuine person no matter the raceor where they came from. No one else
knows more about being a Native American in a world of racism rather than Sherman Alexie
himself who has dealt with these issue s before. He argues not only his struggles, but also the
struggles of other Native Americans a taste of what its like to be in their shoes what they go
through almost every day of their life s. Sherman Alexie is a well known Native American poet,
novelist, performer, and filmmaker. According to Poetry Foundation, he is mostly famous for
his poems and short stories about the reservation life of a Native American, among them The
Business of Fancy Dancing (1992), The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven (1993),

The Characters Of Johnny And Outsiders In The Outsiders
Two different age kids in The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, turn out to have a lot in common but, also
a lot dissimilar. Johnny and Dally both do not have a strong relationship with their abusive,
neglectful parents but, at least they have the gang. On the other hand, Dally likes to fight and
Johnny does not, so in the end Johnny dies as someone to look up to and Dally dies a thief.
Throughout the story they both show different emotions towards their parents, gangmembers, and
each other. Johnny and Dally have a lot in common, and one of them is that they do not really
have people to call their family, so they call their gang their family. When Darry hits Ponyboy,
Pony runs to Johnny, who is sleeping in the lot, and tells him they are running away because of
what Darry did to him. Johnny then explains to Ponyboy that he does not have family and Pony
yells at him saying, Shoot, you got the whole gang. Dally didn t slug you tonight cause you re
the pet. I mean, golly Johnny, you got the whole gang (51). Even though Johnny s parents do not
treat him nicely, he still needs to understand that he has people that care for him, and that he is
not alone. Later on in the story, Johnny is dying. While he is still alive his mother comes to see
him, but he does not want to see her because she will give him grief. When Johnny dies, Dally is
devastated. He is so angry that he goes and robs a grocery store. As the police chase him, he goes
to a phonebooth and calls the Curtis home. Darry

Schizophrenic Paranoia
In addition to having schizophrenic paranoia, Chief is depressed. A major catalyst for the onset
of depression is the suppression of emotions, and Chief has suppressed many emotions throughout
his life. When he was a child, he had to watch as people in power took everything from him, and
he was one of the few patients who were not in the mental institution voluntarily. The forced loss
of freedom is reason enough for anyone to become depressed. Depression is ubiquitous, usually
easily recognized, and in most cases rapidly responsive to modern treatment (Miller 262). Everyone
will experience feelings of depression at some point in their lives, but when unending depression

That s why the staff gives me the pills; at the old place I took to waking up at night and catching
them performing all kinds of horrible crimes on the patients sleeping around me. (Kesey 78)
These pills, if they really do what Chief is claiming, are used to keep the patients where those in
control want them to be, and to keep them from causing any unnecessary disturbances. All of the
treatments employed by the mental institution are merely trying to keep Chief in line; they aren t
used in an attempt to rid him of his disorders.
The men on the ward, especially Chief, are dealing with many different disorders that affect
every aspect of their lives. The effects of the multiple illnesses eventually blur into each other,
and if Chief isn t fighting for control, the mental disorders will take over, and he will be unable

The Merchant Of Venice By William Shakespeare Essay
Symbolism is used extensively in the play The Merchant of Venice. It is used to represent aspects
of the people s culture and to signify feelings within people in love. The caskets signify the
choices that people have in the community as well as depict the character of Portia s suitors. The
three caskets are the key to the marriagebetween Bassanio and Portia, and the rings signify the love
and affection among the two of them as well. The caskets and the rings are used to enhance the
two major themes of the play, which are love and friendship. They also bring out the characters of
the various individuals.
Portia had a lot of suitors who came to seek her hand in marriage, as she was very beautiful. Once
a man came to woo her and failed to choose the right casket, he forfeited any chance of getting
married to any other person in the future. There are three caskets of gold, silver, and lead, which
represent various aspects of the culture in Venice(Barnet 46). The contest of the caskets represents
the ideal that everyone in the society is given the same opportunities and given the freedom to
choose the path that they take. People of different nationalities, ethnicities and religion are given
the same opportunities. However, there is some bias towards Christianity just like the city of Venice.
The story of Bassanio and the casket choice also appears to incorporate both a moral and an
allegorical meaning. At the moral level, the incident explores the implications of Christian

Start The Fire
Throughout history music has been used as a method of communication and protest. This trend
spiked particularly during the Vietnam War in the 1960s and is shown throughout the decades with
different groups or genres to continue in increasing popularity throughout the decades (Candaele).
One particular song that portrays this is We Didn t Start the Fire, written and sung by Billy Joel.
We Didn t Start the Fire exemplifies a popular song taking a stance against contemporary social
issues in 1960s 1980s America, particularly involvement in the Cold War. In order to understand
why We Didn t Start the Fire addressed the issues of the Cold War and other controversies

The lyrical message of the song is very in your face. There s no question as to what the singer is
referencing, nor his stance on the issue. The song structure (reiterating the chorus after listing
certain people, events, etc.) helps reiterate his message by singing the chorus stating his opinion
after bringing up controversial issues in an ABAB form. Additionally, Joel uses metaphors such
as fire burning to represent contention among mankind to illustrate his message. The rhythmic
feel also contributes to the pleasing sound of the recording, thus showing, along with the
previously mentioned musical aspects, the detail put into creating We Didn t Start the Fire in
an endeavor to help the listener be receptive to the message. The level of success of these
methods are shown in receptivity of the song following its release. This song was very well
received by some and horribly received by others. Some people claimed that it was one of the
worst songs written. Yet, some people really liked it. For example, some school teachers thought
that it was an amazing song for teaching students about different things happening during that
time period since it covers so many events (Fetters). I personally think that it makes a very
persuasive case in combating arguments that his generation was lazy or had it easy because Joel
cites numerous cases that people would be hard pressed to argue were inconsequential. However,
Joel doesn t expressly state what people of his generation were doing to combat evil in the world,
which was also part of his argument. Instead, people have to do research for themselves and come
up with their own conclusion, thus weakening his

Argumentative Essay On Genetic Manipulation
Genetic manipulation or modification is the process of scientists changing a person s DNA
before birth to help benefit that person s life. This process is fairly new and inexperienced and
many people believe that it is wrong and outlandish. The benefits of genetic manipulation
outweigh the repercussions and the full extent of those benefits is yet to be seen. I believe that
genetic manipulation needs to become a more widespread operation in order for doubters to see
the benefits that come from the process. Also, in order for genetic manipulation to be considered
normal to the common person, there needs to be more cases where genetic manipulation
changed a person s life for the better. There are only a handful of cases around the world, and
according to Annabel Ferriman, the scientists, from the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and
Science at St Barnabas in New Jersey, said that 30 babies worldwide have been born as a result of
this technique, known as ooplasmic transfer. The world needs to know more about these cases of
genetic manipulation in order to more fully understand it. People who disagree with genetic
manipulation often say that it is not right to do to an unborn baby who does not have a say in the
matter of being genetically manipulated. Opponents also say that it will limit the genepool and that
some may take it too far.
Most opponents of genetic manipulation will use the argument of the process being taken too far
and children in the womb seen as things

Video Games And Computer Games Essay
Computer and Video Games: Friends Needed Video games have existed for much longer than
many young people are aware. For example, an individual would need to be over the age of 50 to
remember the first time arcade games were available for play in a bowling alley or inside the
entertainment building of a miniature golf course. Similarly, an age requirement of 40 would
be required for a person to remember the first release of the Atari, which was usually seen at a
friend s home, or to remember the first complex games available on a computer (for example,
The Sims). With a history of decades, computer and video games have influenced generations.
Although many experts and doctors have argued otherwise, computer and video games usage
doesn t encourage or cause violent behavior; rather, participation in computer/video games
encourages positive social interaction and strengthens problem solving skills. Computer games
have taken the blame for many national tragedies, including Columbine and Sandy Hook;
however, in the 1970s, rock music was blamed for many violent acts by teenagers, including
suicide. Instead of delving into their child s psychological status or the quality of his/her home
life, parents look around for any other reason for their child s violent behavior that won t require
them to take the blame for the child s actions. Even the parents of children who weren t involved

Many questions posed by scientists about Saturn s atmosphere had gone unanswered for many
years, because, like with Jupiter, photos from Earth had not been of high enough quality. The
Voyager probes were able to fix that. Information relayed back to Earth from the two probes (which
reached Saturn nine months apart, Voyager 1 first in 1980, Voyager 2 in 1981) helped scientists get
a much better understanding. Though the atmosphere was expected to be quite similar in
composition to the Sun and to Jupiter, Saturn s atmosphere was actually quite different. There was
significantly less Helium in Saturn s outmost atmosphere, leading to many interesting conclusions,
including that heavier Helium was sinking lower in the atmosphere (Voyager Saturn, NASA).
Saturn was also determined to have a lighter density than any other planet and is, in fact, less dense
than water. The varying composition of the atmosphere also leant ideas to why Saturn was far
warmer than expected, calculating temperature based solely on solar energy, registering between
10 degrees Kelvin at the poles and 143 Kelvin closer to the equator, according to Voyager 1 s
radio measurements (these also measured pressure) (Voyager Saturn, NASA). One of the other
things determined by the Voyager probes was the extreme speed of the wind on Saturn. Wind

Montessori Schools Are The Best For Our Future Generations
Montessori Schools In today s world, we can find hundreds of schools all around us, but we can t
figure out which one is best for our future generations. One of the most outstanding schools are the
Montessori schools. According to the American Montessori Society the Montessori schools are
based on the observation of the students, letting the students choose what they want to do, letting
the students rely on themselves for almost everything, and the teachers are there to only help and
observe the students. The famous Maria Montessori said, The greatest sign of success for a

You d probably find a child sitting on a table and having a snack, another child painting, another
child learning about Africa, and so on. As for the teachers in Montessori schools, they don t
have anything to do with the child s work, each child is responsible for his or her own work the
teacher only guides and observes. For Maria Montessori once said, Never help a child with a
task at which he feels he can succeed (Xu, 2017). Moving on to another reason why Montessori
schools are the best for our future generations is that Montessori schools teaches students to enjoy
what they are learning. Montessori schools are based on the role of the environment and
freedom. This means that the children are not locked up in chairs and rules. They can do
whatever they want as long as it is in the classroom setting, they can wander around the classroom
and pick whatever activity they feel like doing. Being able to move freely in a classroom can help
improve cognitive and social development, it even can help with mental development depending on
the movement in the classroom, where all of this is called the instrument of the intelligence. There
is nothing a child hates than to tell him to sit in one place for a long period. Montessori schools are
also based on teaching their students throughout activities. For example, if you visit a Montessori
classroom while teaching history, you won t find the students sitting in one place looking

The Legacy Of Captain John Smith s Life Essay
While it is impossible to truly elaborate or even go into much detail on the exploits of Captain
John Smith s life, in this paper I will be covering several of his many achievements. In addition, I
will be dispelling several of the popular myths in regards to his life that many modern day
Americans believe in. Some of these more modern day myths or false narratives are due to his
story being adapted and changed in order to make a children s video by Disney, while others have
been debated by historians ever since they were penned by Smith in one of his most famous works
consisting of six volumes: The Generall Historie of Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles.
While many cannot picture Smith in any context other than with Pocahontas, he had a very active
life before he even met her. As stated by Woolf, prior to even meeting Pocahontas Smith had been in
an army fighting the Ottoman Turks in central Europe, during which he went through several
escapes, was seriously wounded, taken into slavery, after which he murdered his slave master and
escaped, along with being shipwrecked twice. 1 All of these exploits happened before Smith ended
up in Virginia at the Jamestown colony, and met Pocahontas, the narrative of which most
Americans are intimately familiar with or so they think.
To begin, unlike Disney s portrayal of what most people thought of as an epic romance of the ages,
Pocahontas and John Smith were never intimate with each other. In addition, while being the

of the Taggart Transcontinental railroad company. One of the company s rail lines, the Rio Norte
Line that runs to Colorado, is not operational and has a lot of accidents, so Dagny works to make
changes to revive it. While Dagny thinks the company should cut ties with its existing steel

ties with Orren Boyle s Steel because of his own personal relationship with that company s
leadership. Dagny decides to cancel the company s order with Orren Boyle s and signs with
Rearden Steel instead because they are offering a new product called Rearden Metal that she thinks

Usage of Propaganda in Totalitarian Governments versus...
Propaganda is everywhere any human looks. It is the base of almost every government. But,
seeing as how other governments are worse than the American government, it s worse in other
areas of the world. The role of propaganda in a totalitarian government is very important, especially
when compared to a democratic type of government, mostly because democracies don t usually
want to control every aspect of life.
Information or ideas that are spread by an organized group or government to influence people s
opinions, especially by not giving all the facts or by secretly emphasizing only one way of
looking at the facts is what propaganda is ( Cambridge Dictionaries ). So basically, it s the

14).
The Nazis hid their people from the truth. Hitler told his men to just not tell the German people the
truth at all. He just wanted them to know what they needed to know and leave out all of the rest.
Democratic countries, however, are completely opposite. Democratic countries must present at
least some of the truth in their propaganda. Any free person will eventually discover the truth, so
democratic countries don t really think too much of their propaganda. When propaganda has been
uncovered, and the people discover that it is distorted or full of lies, it becomes ineffective (
Democratic vs. Enemy Propaganda para. 5).
The people completely understood democracy. The people used to act together, almost as if they
were like an assembly line. The people used to be in charge of the legitimate authority, and
political power. Nowadays, the only thing the people control is limited. They have the right to pick
and choose who is of the political authority. Then, that political authority is given to by a person
who the people who have elected to lead their country ( Democracy para.1).
However, people have the right to know all of the truth of any situation, so democratic
propaganda has to abide by that rule, no matter how ugly the truth may be. The truth is not only in
the rules of democracy, but is also a slap of reality for a policy that is

Accountability in the Army Essay
The US Army values soldiers that are accountable for their actions. Being accountable means being
dependable; arriving to work and appointments on time, meeting deadlines, being in the right place
at the right time and doing the right thing at the right time. Morning formation is the most imprtant
formation of the day. It is made to get accountability of everyone and to put out any information
that needs to be addressed. Without having accountability there is no way of knowing where

It does not look well on them if they can not complete this task. This actually shows thats the
soldier can t be depended on when they are needed. This also hurts them when they are being
looked at for promotions or any favorable actions. As a soldier you want to always make a great
impression on your leaders, and not being able to make it on time is not acceptable to them. It
would make things run alot smootherif everyone was on time all of the time. If no one was at
the right place at the right time, it would set what ever mission you have back. It also makes a
negative impact on your leadership. However, I also feel that as leaders, they should also realize
that things may happen with the soldiers. Whether its being late to formation, missing an
appointment due to some circumstance, as long as the soldier doesn t make it a habbit then
forgiveness should be granted on that instance. Also you want to use this duty in your personal

Artemisia as a Feminist
Nanette Salomon, a very well known feminist writer, wrote the article, Judging Artemisia: A
Baroque Woman in Modern Art History. The article opens up with a discussion about the 2001 2
exhibition of Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi: Father and Daughter Painters in Baroque Italy. The
author explains that three things are unusual here: the fact that two famous artists were presented at
the same time, that they were related as father and daughter, and the fact that the woman was better
known than the man. Her intent in this article is to look at the effects of this trope (figure of
speech) in the past and in the present.
Salomon argues that this comparison technique has been the main feature or art historical analysis.
It puts a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author also talks about the story of Susanna and the Elders. Apparently Artemisia Gentileschi
painted three versions of this biblical story at three different stages in her life, 1610, 1622, and
1649. The author did a comparison on the three Susanna paintings and she argues that it is
noticeable that the abstracting qualities of the 1610 painting change its concept or meaning from
one form of story telling to another. She argues that the abstract form of story telling serves the
purpose of finding a visual equivalent to the deafening silence . She explains that the 1622
Susanna and the Elders speaks a different language, and so does the 1649 version.
Nanette Salomon emphasizes that there are different ways to make sense of the changes in
Artemisia s three Susannas . One explanation may be that Artemisia s work show progressive
naturalism or realism which can be attributed to her development as an artist.
Judging Artemisia Gentileschi is a practice that is believed to have begun at the same time as
aesthetic judgment, back in the time of Vasari in the late sixteenth century.
To me, those are the main points of the article by Nanette Salomon. I think that she made a very
good historical and psychological approach on the subject. The strength of this article is that she
provides a lot of historical facts, and blends it together with her words and opinion.

The Barbary Wars were fought between United States and the African Ottoman Empire that
consisted of Algiers, Tripoli, and Tunis, and Morocco known as the Barbary States (Huff). The
United States and the Barbary States fought two wars; the First war took place between 1801
1805 and fought by the Tripoli and America, the second took place between 1815 1818 between
America and Algiers. The first war is considered to be the first American transatlantic interference,

President Thomas Jefferson refusing to pay the Barbary State of Tripoli ransom to bring back the

the war, with the help of French sailors, the Continental Navy took down British sailors, breaking

learned well. Virtually no scope for plagiarism Can provide a free exchange of ideas on a topic
Generally used supported by other assessment methods Allows for description, evaluation and
reflection Structured discussion allows for gaps to be covered The authenticity (ownership) of the

preparation time to ensure logical flow of ideas A criticism could be that it tests communication,
understanding, and capacity to think quickly under pressure. Oral work can be less stressful for
some students Cultural and individual difference can result in some candidates underperforming
when asked questions by figures of authority. Not suitable for assessing large amounts of subject

Who is against fluoride being added to water and Why
Who is against fluoride being added to water and Why
This report investigates about water fluoridation, and its effects and why it is added to water.
Water fluoridation is a process where fluoride is added to public drinking water. The main
purpose of this is to reduce tooth decay. The dosage that is added to the water is paramount to
stopping tooth decay. This process can only be achieved by physically adding the fluorideto the
drinking water. When the fluoridated water is drunk it acts on the surface of the teethbuilding up
the enamel. It also leaves low levels of fluoride in the saliva. This also reduces the decaying rate of
the teeth. This practice is common among developed countries. This is where the rate of tooth
decay is high. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strengthening bones
Some studies show that fluoride is one of the minerals that is required to build up strong bones.
When fluoride is used correctly, it increases the rate in which the bones grow and makes them
stronger.
While the use of fluoride is beneficial, we cannot ignore the harmful effects of using fluoride.
Uncontrolled fluoride intake can be very counter reproductive and sometimes lead to chronic
conditions that change your lifestyle.
Why unions and civil societies are against of adding fluoride in water
The practice is unethical
Doctors and other medical personnel see added doses of fluoride to drinking water, as a
malpractice. This is because medical ethics do not allow for any administration of drugs without
the consent of the patient or a proper diagnosis. In addition, the practice also gives fluoride to
people who do not need it. Not everyone is affected by tooth decay, however the system does not
choose whom to give the dose and whom to skip. This leads to accumulation of fluoride in the
blood system, which can lead to life threatening conditions.
The dose cannot be controlled
People take different amounts of water making. This makes it difficult to regulate the dose taken by
one person. In addition, fluoride is not meant to be ingested into the body, rather it is meant to be
used on the surface of teeth. Athletes and those with diabetes will take more water than ordinary
people will. This makes there fluoride intake more than the

Christians understand that the Bible is from God. There is so much to take in, but we have a lifetime
to get to know God and what are place is in this universe. God does speak to each of us, we just

The entire bible is one book, has one author, the Holy Spirit, and has one purpose, to show the fall
of man and God s way to redeem him. No one cannot understand the New Testament without
understanding the Old Testament first.
Connecting
The Old Testament and the New Testament are one book; one balances the other. In the Old
Testament life started when God decided to make Adam, Let us make human beings in our image,
(Genesis 1:24 NIV) . God revealed himself to humans. This is where God connected on a personal
level with each of us and we learned how to speak to God. This is also the time when the Fall of
Man was redeemed. We all may agree that again and again we fall down , but God is right there.
We just have to believe and pray for God s guidance. God shows grace, forgiveness and love. God
sent his son, Lord Jesus Christ to show us physically and visibly what God is like. God again
revealed himself to the world, by his unconditional love. God is constant in his words. Throughout
the Bible starting in the Old Testament that God s son is coming and tells how he is coming. In
the New Testament, Christ is sent to save all our sins and uphold the universe. It is important to
understand this from the beginning, because whatever is true of God the Father is true of Jesus
Christ the Son and is true of the Holy Spirit. God is three persons, but one God. God is REAL.
Role
To understand God is to understand that, The Father is God: Jesus Christ is God; the Holy Spirit is

Analysis of The Frivolity of Evil Essay
Dalrymple s Thesis In his 2004 City Journal article, Theodore Dalrymple expresses his view on the
tremendous decline in the quality of life in Great Britain. He believed that society has accepted the
notion that people are not responsible for their own problems. Also, that it is the moral cowardice
of the intellectual and political elites that perpetuates the social dynamics that are responsible for
the continuing decline of British society. According to the author, a physician about to retire after a
career treating criminal justice offenders and victims, there are several pervasive misconceptions
that explain the continuing decline of British society. The first misconception claims that there is

The following point is reinforced by detailing the dynamic between physicians and patients in
relation to the contemporary treatment of depression. He describes the doctor as an enabler who
stands as an obstacle. The said doctor prevents the patient s ability to understand that what we
typically refer to as depression, is nothing more than the predictable emotions associated with
unhappiness after making bad life choices. Dalrymple implies that physicians cannot help most of
their depressed patients without abandoning their profession s commitment to objective disinterest
in the voluntary choices of patients. In order to validate his third point, Dalrymple recounts some
of the examples of the direct causative relationship between bad choices made by patients (and
victims) he has encountered. Specifically, he explains how easily any person of reasonable
intelligence could have, and should have been able to avoid making the decisions that were
responsible for the situations precipitating their encounter with him in a clinical setting. They
include battered and abused women who continually choose exactly the kind of men who
obviously pose related risks, as well as irresponsible men and women who repeatedly

Battle Of Atlanta Essay
Battle of Atlanta
During the late 1800 s there was conflict between the Northern and Southern states causing what we
call now the Civil War. This war started due to free and slave states holding different opinions on
whether the government had the power to prohibit slavery in territories that were not yet states.
Abraham Lincoln was elected to office in 1860, pledging to keep slavery out of new territories.
After hearing about this seven southern slave states decided to secede and form a new nation, the
Confederate States of America. The Northern states did not acknowledge the secession fearing the
final outcome would be a division of all the states, this is where the Civil War began. From 1861 up
until 1865 there were many small battles fought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sherman lead Union forces into battle to take control of the city of Atlanta, Georgia. This was
part of a plan known as the Atlanta campaign that was constructed by Sherman under
Commander in Chief Ulysses S. Grant. According to Facts on File, Inc. Plans for the capture of
Atlanta, the Confederacy s largest railroad hub... were first formulated in February and March
1864 (2009). This was about four to five months before Sherman had led the union into Atlanta.
Sherman s plan which was revealed in April, was described to destroy railroads in order to cease
the transportation of supplies that confederate troops needed, as well as make Joseph E.
Johnston s army of Confederate soldiers retreat back to Atlanta forcing them to surrender. A
month after on May 5, 1864 Union soldiers attacked Confederates at Dalton, Georgia and
attacked Resaca four days later. On May 12 Johnston led his soldiers to meet the Union army at
Resaca where his army would battle Union soldiers from May 13 to May 15. Although
Confederates had driven Union soldiers back on the second day of battle, after Johnston received
reports telling him of the Unions success in gaining position he decided not to attack on the
following morning and instead retreated his soldiers to Calhoun and Adairsville. Following this
evacuation, Confederates were supposed to ambush Union soldiers on Cassville road, they were
all positioned by May 19 in the morning, but the army retreated and waited for Union soldiers to

Racial Integration in College Football in the 1950s
In the 1950s, America was viewed as one the strongest nations in the World. America established
itself as a strong military super power and dominate country in World War II. The effects of World
War II carried over in the 1950s, America saw a lot of economic growth, there was an increase in
the amount of people who moved to the suburbs, and the baby boom which came about because of
the millions of soldiers returning home from military services. Even though this seemed like a
happy time, there was still a thick tension in America. This tension was between African Americans
and white Americans. In 1865, the thirteenth amendment was passed which abolished slavery. Even
though this occurred, white peoplestill felt that African American were... Show more content on

Davis didn t let this stop him, he got back up after every play and was determined to not let racism
prevail. He was supported by the black community who filled the stands of segregated stadiums
to come and see him play. He led the squad [Syracuse] to its first unbeaten season, then became
the varsity s top rusher as a sophomore in 1959 (Carter). During this decade, predominately
white institutions started integrating their teams more, mainly in the south. The last major
college in the south to integrate their football team was the University of Texas who signed
walk ons E.A Curry and Robinson Parsons in 1967. It took some time but seeing at least one
black player on college team became common, however not necessarily social acceptable.
Racism was an accepted ideology for many years and it wasn t going to just be rejected
overnight. Only time could rid itself of this racist ideology. Nevertheless, if black players had the
talent then they had a chance of being a part of major college football program.
In the book titled Race, Sports, and the American Dream, it discussed how sports helped change
the place of African American in society. Sports was well segregated deep into the 20th century
(Smith 9). How college football looked in America in the 1950s was exactly how American
society looked in the 1950s, segregated and racist. African American athletes in college football
helped fight and negate stereotypes because it showed that they are equally as good

Voltaire, Denis Diderot, And Jean-Jacques Rousseau
The Enlightenment was a period of mass introduction of new ideas, high in intellect, for the
purpose of social growth. People s views on issues were greatly influenced by the philosophes of
that time. People started believing that all men were equal, and thus deserved equal treatment.
Some of the philosophes who greatly influenced this period were Voltaire, Denis Diderot, and Jean
Jacques Rousseau. These men were critical thinkers who analyzed how society was run, and
proposed better ways in which the world could operate. Though these men were high on intellect,
they had similar world changing views, and all believed that man was free and this freedom should
not be taken away. They still had some ideas that differed, but never diminished their... Show more

Though questioning the authority at this time was deemed forbidden, he still argued against
authority and status quo. He said No man has received from nature the right to command his
fellow human beings. His propositions exploited principles such as freedom of press, trade,
toleration, reason, and education. His ideas were revolutionary. For example, he made some
very famous quotes like: Power acquired by violence is only usurpation, and lasts only as long
as the force of him who commands prevails over that of those who obey, and Man will never be
free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest. Diderot rose up against the
doctrine that stated the right of a prince to hold power over others because it was God s will. His
lifework, the Encyclopedia was a powerful weapon against ecclesiastical and governmental
institutions. He urged people to liberate themselves through reason. His views were in line with
those of Rousseau and Voltaire, only that he was extremely humanitarian and expressed support for
social and political reforms. In all his dealings, he placed knowledge above the dogmas of the
church, thus concurring with Voltaire and Rousseau on the note of

3d Bone Printing And Its Effects On The Practice Of Medicine
3D bone printing is a powerful technology with the potential to significantly change the practice
of medicine. The 3D printing of bones can help humanity by reducing the amount of time people
wait for transplants of bones. 3D bone printing can play a major role in surgery have a major
effect in advancing the medical field. 3D printed bones have been experimented in animals in the
past using the animal s own bone as a material to print bones. The printed bones have not
experimented on humans because the body rejects the bones if it is not made of live material. The

technology the medical 3D printing industry has evolved in the past years. Today the researchers
are trying to 3D print bones that can be transplanted in replacement of an injured bone. As of now,
the only patient to benefit from the new printer is a rat (Abram). The 3D printed bones have not
experimented on humans yet. So far the 3D printer has been used to print bones that can be
implanted into rats. The material used to print this bone was the rat bone itself. The 3D printing
technology has advanced in the field of medical science by improving health care.
The design of a 3D printer is a challenge as it involves many interacting subsystems from different
areas. 3D printers involve mechanical parts that are controlled by embedded controllers and are
driven by power electronics. The motors in 3D printers are used to provide motion within 3 axes,
that is the x, y, and z. Sensors are used for end stops, which are used as interlock safety devices for
the x, y, and z axis to maintain the motion within the distance allowed. The printer also involves a
3D scanner that is used to scan the injured bone of the individual. The printer replicates the 3D

Tuft Of Flowers, And After Apple Picking
A discovery can lead to a change in perspective on life, with a better understanding of the self,
which can form from an individual s experience. These ideas are exemplified through a range of
language techniques, in Robert Frosts poems, Tuft of Flowers and After Apple Picking . Both
create moralistic experiences through challenging responders to acknowledge unplanned
discoveries of the human condition. Ray Bradbury s short story, The Lake, creates a vivid picture
of how childhood can often be hard and misunderstood. Discoveries have the ability to be intensely
meaningful and transformative of one s perspective. There is much to discover from experience and
questions about identity may remain unanswered. The poem, After Apple Picking... Show more

The poem, Tuft of flowers by Robert Frost, examines how the persona s perception of the world is
transformed through discovering and connecting with humanity. The rhyming scheme throughout
the poem, suggesting decisiveness, it s strict AA BB rhyme couplets may allude to friendship
and unity with another. The persona s isolation is demonstrated through the negative
connotations of levelled , a metaphor for the persona s perception of the world and makes a
realisation about a need for fellowship, in a quest for unity for his fellow man. Personification is
used in A leaping tongue of bloom , as though the flowers are speaking to him and providing the
communication that he sought earlier. It represents the collaboration of nature and language,
which previously yielded no reply with the butterfly. The butterfly is wildered which represents
the persona s confusion. However, the emergence of vibrant imagery of a leaping tongue of bloom
metaphorically reflects an optimistic discovery of a possible companion. This alters the speakers
cynical tone as reflected through the shift of a vibrant retrospective tone of I told him from the
heart, whether they work together or apart , which conveys a hopeful and harmonious self
discovery of kinship which provokes a transformation of a speaker s outlook on the work.
Landscape and nature play a large role in his revolutionary moments. Disappointment is seen when
the persona is alone with thoughts and the natural landscape, and the opportunity for introspection
and reflection is evident. The landscape offers redemptive opportunities to the human spirit that go
beyond the material and social world of human activity. Such moments allow re evaluation of his
place in the world and the importance of earlier discoveries. It is through these ordinary experiences
that the persona can

Tragic Hero In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
omeo and Juliet
For never was a story more woe Than this of Juliet and her Romeo. (Shakespeare 1145). In the
famous play written by William Shakespeare called The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is
depicted as a tragic hero. Aristotle defines a tragic hero as someone who is looked highly upon
and seen as great but is not perfect. According to Aristotle s definition Shakespeare gives Romeo
many of these tragic hero qualities throughout his play. Aristotle also states that the tragic hero
must have a fatal flaw which in Romeo s case would be falling in love too quickly. He explains
the fatal flaw is not a total loss. The end of the play is not a total loss, although Romeo and Juliet
die the feud between the Montagues and Capulets ends (Allinsby). In William Shakespeare s
Romeo Juliet, Romeo is a tragic hero because he is imperfect, he is the main reason for his

  • 3. Ancient Societies Collapse Research Paper Throughout history there have been an untold number of societal collapses; some have been studied completely and others forgotten in history. As time passes and new innovations are created, so are new paths for collapse. However, the downfalls of the ancient civilizations are also applicable in today s society. With decades of archaeological and historical research, theories have arisen as to why these societies collapsed and what humans of today can do to avoid a similar fate. While many collapses are thought to have occurred from several factors compounding over many years, most can be attributed to three main issues: the environment, war, and trade. Environmental changes seem to have the quickest and most drastic affect on civilizations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most likely way that current society will collapse would be a large scale environmental change that affects a majority of the Earth. In the most dramatic case, if a climate changing event such as a volcanic eruption or a heat wave occurred, the effects would be catastrophic. If the event affected enough of the planet, there would be mass starvation that would eventually lead to the downfall of human civilization. Also, humans affecting the environment with global warming and using up natural resources such as oil and trees will create an uninhabitable planet. If the environmental change only affected a small region, other countries would provide aid and attempt to rebuild that society. If trade were to disintegrate globally, many societies would collapse due to their dependence on imported goods and the profit from exported items, similar to Pitcairn and Henderson. If trade from one country stopped, it would not have as much of an effect seeing as all of the countries connected and another trade system could be created. For example, if trade from a country that produces oil stops, many countries would suffer without fuel for a short while until another trade route from a different country began. Due to the economically interconnected nature of the world today, it is unlikely that a collapse would happen due to shifting trade. Another main factor of collapse is war and societies ending due to invasions. A modern day war could be taken far enough where entire cities are wiped out and civilizations destroyed. For example, if the War on Terror is continued for long enough, countless societies in West Asia could be demolished. Ultimately, any of the aforementioned changes could cause a collapse, it merely depends on the magnitude and severity of the event, and which places are afflicted. Other ... Thus, the spreading and descen[t] are not really of the sunset, or of the night, but of the sorrow that comes with loss. With the reappearance of hope in the final cycle, the pathetic fallacy is both a reflection on the past, as well as an evidence of tenacious hope. Mikage says: The moon shone down from high above, crossing the sky, erasing the stars in its path. It was full. I watched it go behind a cloud, completely hidden, and re emerge (94). • 10. The Merchant Of Venice By William Shakespeare Essay Symbolism is used extensively in the play The Merchant of Venice. It is used to represent aspects of the people s culture and to signify feelings within people in love. The caskets signify the choices that people have in the community as well as depict the character of Portia s suitors. The three caskets are the key to the marriagebetween Bassanio and Portia, and the rings signify the love and affection among the two of them as well. The caskets and the rings are used to enhance the two major themes of the play, which are love and friendship. They also bring out the characters of the various individuals. Portia had a lot of suitors who came to seek her hand in marriage, as she was very beautiful. Once a man came to woo her and failed to choose the right casket, he forfeited any chance of getting married to any other person in the future. There are three caskets of gold, silver, and lead, which represent various aspects of the culture in Venice(Barnet 46). The contest of the caskets represents the ideal that everyone in the society is given the same opportunities and given the freedom to choose the path that they take. People of different nationalities, ethnicities and religion are given the same opportunities. However, there is some bias towards Christianity just like the city of Venice. The story of Bassanio and the casket choice also appears to incorporate both a moral and an allegorical meaning. At the moral level, the incident explores the implications of Christian ... One particular song that portrays this is We Didn t Start the Fire, written and sung by Billy Joel. We Didn t Start the Fire exemplifies a popular song taking a stance against contemporary social issues in 1960s 1980s America, particularly involvement in the Cold War. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lyrical message of the song is very in your face. There s no question as to what the singer is referencing, nor his stance on the issue. The song structure (reiterating the chorus after listing certain people, events, etc.) helps reiterate his message by singing the chorus stating his opinion after bringing up controversial issues in an ABAB form. Additionally, Joel uses metaphors such as fire burning to represent contention among mankind to illustrate his message. The rhythmic feel also contributes to the pleasing sound of the recording, thus showing, along with the previously mentioned musical aspects, the detail put into creating We Didn t Start the Fire in an endeavor to help the listener be receptive to the message. The level of success of these methods are shown in receptivity of the song following its release. This song was very well received by some and horribly received by others. Some people claimed that it was one of the worst songs written. Yet, some people really liked it. For example, some school teachers thought that it was an amazing song for teaching students about different things happening during that time period since it covers so many events (Fetters). I personally think that it makes a very persuasive case in combating arguments that his generation was lazy or had it easy because Joel cites numerous cases that people would be hard pressed to argue were inconsequential. However, Joel doesn t expressly state what people of his generation were doing to combat evil in the world, which was also part of his argument. • 13. Argumentative Essay On Genetic Manipulation Genetic manipulation or modification is the process of scientists changing a person s DNA before birth to help benefit that person s life. This process is fairly new and inexperienced and many people believe that it is wrong and outlandish. The benefits of genetic manipulation outweigh the repercussions and the full extent of those benefits is yet to be seen. I believe that genetic manipulation needs to become a more widespread operation in order for doubters to see the benefits that come from the process. Also, in order for genetic manipulation to be considered normal to the common person, there needs to be more cases where genetic manipulation changed a person s life for the better. There are only a handful of cases around the world, and according to Annabel Ferriman, the scientists, from the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science at St Barnabas in New Jersey, said that 30 babies worldwide have been born as a result of this technique, known as ooplasmic transfer. The world needs to know more about these cases of genetic manipulation in order to more fully understand it. People who disagree with genetic manipulation often say that it is not right to do to an unborn baby who does not have a say in the matter of being genetically manipulated. • 16. Video Games And Computer Games Essay Computer and Video Games: Friends Needed Video games have existed for much longer than many young people are aware. For example, an individual would need to be over the age of 50 to remember the first time arcade games were available for play in a bowling alley or inside the entertainment building of a miniature golf course. Similarly, an age requirement of 40 would be required for a person to remember the first release of the Atari, which was usually seen at a friend s home, or to remember the first complex games available on a computer (for example, The Sims). With a history of decades, computer and video games have influenced generations. Although many experts and doctors have argued otherwise, computer and video games usage doesn t encourage or cause violent behavior; rather, participation in computer/video games encourages positive social interaction and strengthens problem solving skills. Computer games have taken the blame for many national tragedies, including Columbine and Sandy Hook; however, in the 1970s, rock music was blamed for many violent acts by teenagers, including suicide. Many questions posed by scientists about Saturn s atmosphere had gone unanswered for many years, because, like with Jupiter, photos from Earth had not been of high enough quality. The Voyager probes were able to fix that. Information relayed back to Earth from the two probes (which reached Saturn nine months apart, Voyager 1 first in 1980, Voyager 2 in 1981) helped scientists get a much better understanding. Though the atmosphere was expected to be quite similar in composition to the Sun and to Jupiter, Saturn s atmosphere was actually quite different. There was significantly less Helium in Saturn s outmost atmosphere, leading to many interesting conclusions, including that heavier Helium was sinking lower in the atmosphere (Voyager Saturn, NASA). Saturn was also determined to have a lighter density than any other planet and is, in fact, less dense than water. The varying composition of the atmosphere also leant ideas to why Saturn was far warmer than expected, calculating temperature based solely on solar energy, registering between 10 degrees Kelvin at the poles and 143 Kelvin closer to the equator, according to Voyager 1 s radio measurements (these also measured pressure) (Voyager Saturn, NASA). For Maria Montessori once said, Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed (Xu, 2017). Moving on to another reason why Montessori schools are the best for our future generations is that Montessori schools teaches students to enjoy what they are learning. Montessori schools are based on the role of the environment and freedom. This means that the children are not locked up in chairs and rules. All he had was a small dagger and a broken spear shaft to stay alive in an unforgiving land filled with angry Argonaut conspirators. Jason had previously disappeared in the night when his friend and fellow Argonaut, Orpheus, had warned him of his dire plight. Now, Jason was alone on the rocks by the seashore, waiting for the dark to grow so he could travel once more. When night finally fell, Jason crawled slowly over the rough rock surface to a grove of olive trees. He took a moment to pray to the goddess Athena for wisdom and protection, then began a westward journey leading him further from his home, flocks, and lands. Jason had nothing to do but run. His pursuers always struck late at night, when Jason tried to get a few hours of rest. They would follow him for days at a time, then strike in a small group, and try to surround him. The Legacy Of Captain John Smith s Life Essay While it is impossible to truly elaborate or even go into much detail on the exploits of Captain John Smith s life, in this paper I will be covering several of his many achievements. In addition, I will be dispelling several of the popular myths in regards to his life that many modern day Americans believe in. Some of these more modern day myths or false narratives are due to his story being adapted and changed in order to make a children s video by Disney, while others have been debated by historians ever since they were penned by Smith in one of his most famous works consisting of six volumes: The Generall Historie of Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles. While many cannot picture Smith in any context other than with Pocahontas, he had a very active life before he even met her. As stated by Woolf, prior to even meeting Pocahontas Smith had been in an army fighting the Ottoman Turks in central Europe, during which he went through several escapes, was seriously wounded, taken into slavery, after which he murdered his slave master and escaped, along with being shipwrecked twice. 1 All of these exploits happened before Smith ended up in Virginia at the Jamestown colony, and met Pocahontas, the narrative of which most Americans are intimately familiar with or so they think. To begin, unlike Disney s portrayal of what most people thought of as an epic romance of the ages, Pocahontas and John Smith were never intimate with each other. In addition, while being the ... The article opens up with a discussion about the 2001 2 exhibition of Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi: Father and Daughter Painters in Baroque Italy. The author explains that three things are unusual here: the fact that two famous artists were presented at the same time, that they were related as father and daughter, and the fact that the woman was better known than the man. Her intent in this article is to look at the effects of this trope (figure of speech) in the past and in the present. Apparently Artemisia Gentileschi painted three versions of this biblical story at three different stages in her life, 1610, 1622, and 1649. The author did a comparison on the three Susanna paintings and she argues that it is noticeable that the abstracting qualities of the 1610 painting change its concept or meaning from one form of story telling to another. She argues that the abstract form of story telling serves the purpose of finding a visual equivalent to the deafening silence . She explains that the 1622 Susanna and the Elders speaks a different language, and so does the 1649 version. Nanette Salomon emphasizes that there are different ways to make sense of the changes in Artemisia s three Susannas . One explanation may be that Artemisia s work show progressive naturalism or realism which can be attributed to her development as an artist. Judging Artemisia Gentileschi is a practice that is believed to have begun at the same time as aesthetic judgment, back in the time of Vasari in the late sixteenth century. To me, those are the main points of the article by Nanette Salomon. I think that she made a very good historical and psychological approach on the subject. God sent his son, Lord Jesus Christ to show us physically and visibly what God is like. God again revealed himself to the world, by his unconditional love. God is constant in his words. Throughout the Bible starting in the Old Testament that God s son is coming and tells how he is coming. In the New Testament, Christ is sent to save all our sins and uphold the universe. It is important to understand this from the beginning, because whatever is true of God the Father is true of Jesus Christ the Son and is true of the Holy Spirit. God is three persons, but one God. God is REAL. Role To understand God is to understand that, The Father is God: Jesus Christ is God; the Holy Spirit is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Analysis of The Frivolity of Evil Essay Dalrymple s Thesis In his 2004 City Journal article, Theodore Dalrymple expresses his view on the tremendous decline in the quality of life in Great Britain. He believed that society has accepted the notion that people are not responsible for their own problems. Also, that it is the moral cowardice of the intellectual and political elites that perpetuates the social dynamics that are responsible for the continuing decline of British society. According to the author, a physician about to retire after a career treating criminal justice offenders and victims, there are several pervasive misconceptions that explain the continuing decline of British society. The following point is reinforced by detailing the dynamic between physicians and patients in relation to the contemporary treatment of depression. He describes the doctor as an enabler who stands as an obstacle. The said doctor prevents the patient s ability to understand that what we typically refer to as depression, is nothing more than the predictable emotions associated with unhappiness after making bad life choices. Dalrymple implies that physicians cannot help most of their depressed patients without abandoning their profession s commitment to objective disinterest in the voluntary choices of patients. In order to validate his third point, Dalrymple recounts some of the examples of the direct causative relationship between bad choices made by patients (and victims) he has encountered. Specifically, he explains how easily any person of reasonable intelligence could have, and should have been able to avoid making the decisions that were responsible for the situations precipitating their encounter with him in a clinical setting. They include battered and abused women who continually choose exactly the kind of men who obviously pose related risks, as well as irresponsible men and women who repeatedly ... It took some time but seeing at least one black player on college team became common, however not necessarily social acceptable. Racism was an accepted ideology for many years and it wasn t going to just be rejected overnight. Only time could rid itself of this racist ideology. Nevertheless, if black players had the talent then they had a chance of being a part of major college football program. In the book titled Race, Sports, and the American Dream, it discussed how sports helped change the place of African American in society. People s views on issues were greatly influenced by the philosophes of that time. People started believing that all men were equal, and thus deserved equal treatment. Some of the philosophes who greatly influenced this period were Voltaire, Denis Diderot, and Jean Jacques Rousseau. These men were critical thinkers who analyzed how society was run, and proposed better ways in which the world could operate. Though these men were high on intellect, they had similar world changing views, and all believed that man was free and this freedom should not be taken away. Though questioning the authority at this time was deemed forbidden, he still argued against authority and status quo. He said No man has received from nature the right to command his fellow human beings. His propositions exploited principles such as freedom of press, trade, toleration, reason, and education. His ideas were revolutionary. For example, he made some very famous quotes like: Power acquired by violence is only usurpation, and lasts only as long as the force of him who commands prevails over that of those who obey, and Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest. Diderot rose up against the doctrine that stated the right of a prince to hold power over others because it was God s will. His lifework, the Encyclopedia was a powerful weapon against ecclesiastical and governmental institutions. He urged people to liberate themselves through reason. The motors in 3D printers are used to provide motion within 3 axes, that is the x, y, and z. Sensors are used for end stops, which are used as interlock safety devices for the x, y, and z axis to maintain the motion within the distance allowed. The rhyming scheme throughout the poem, suggesting decisiveness, it s strict AA BB rhyme couplets may allude to friendship and unity with another. The persona s isolation is demonstrated through the negative connotations of levelled , a metaphor for the persona s perception of the world and makes a realisation about a need for fellowship, in a quest for unity for his fellow man. Personification is used in A leaping tongue of bloom , as though the flowers are speaking to him and providing the communication that he sought earlier. It represents the collaboration of nature and language, which previously yielded no reply with the butterfly. The butterfly is wildered which represents the persona s confusion. However, the emergence of vibrant imagery of a leaping tongue of bloom metaphorically reflects an optimistic discovery of a possible companion. This alters the speakers cynical tone as reflected through the shift of a vibrant retrospective tone of I told him from the heart, whether they work together or apart , which conveys a hopeful and harmonious self discovery of kinship which provokes a transformation of a speaker s outlook on the work. Landscape and nature play a large role in his revolutionary moments. Disappointment is seen when the persona is alone with thoughts and the natural landscape, and the opportunity for introspection and reflection is evident. The landscape offers redemptive opportunities to the human spirit that go beyond the material and social world of human activity.
