Increase Home Ownership
The increase in home ownership in the balance between the home owner and the private rental
sector. Home ownership began to fall in early 2000s, and the fall has increased since then, with
the decline more than 4% in the five years between 2007 2008 and 2012 2013 (Belfield et al,
2015). Due to the number increase of home ownership in the country. The people who are
struggling to purchase a house are the young people. Over the last decade, there has been an
increase in the proportion of younger person household in the UK. The people at age under 30
are living in privately rented properties, around 30% in 1997 to 49% in 2009. On the other hand,
the percentage of young people buying their own homes with a mortgage has decreased from 43%

Evidence shows that many tenants also fall into at least one other group considered to be at
higher risk of experiencing financial exclusion. In which 25% are people over 65 years, 16%
are at an age between 16 24, 16% have a disability or long term illness, 6% are the Black and
Ethnic minority, 59% of women and 72% in receipt of housing benefit. There is a difference
between the generation of today and home ownership; those born later are somewhat less likely
to be homeowners than their predecessor at the same stage in their life. Evidence shows that,
the growth of home ownership rate with age for people born in different years. Those who are
born in mid 1970 now aged in their late 30s have lower rates of home ownership than the people
who were born before them (Belfield et al, 2015). Also for those who were fortunate to have
bought their house under the Right to Buy scheme have a higher rate of home ownership
compared to those who did not get the opportunity to do so. For those who are aged 25, have a
homeowner rate of, 45% compared with 33% of those born in the 1970s cohort and only 20% in
born 1980s cohort. This evidence has been suggested that this change may well out to be a
permanent difference between generation rather than simply changes in the timing of house
purchase due to he factor such as changing in the timing and family formation (Belfield et al, 2015;

I Am Going Slightly Mad Quotes In Macbeth
I am going slightly mad by Queen is a terrific representative of Act 3 of Macbeth. It show how
the singer has gone crazy, which is exactly what is happening to Macbeth during this act. The
singer declares, I think I m a banana tree, oh dear, I m going slightly mad (Queen) which shows
exactly who senseless the person has become. The same is true with Macbethwhen he cries, If
charnel houses and our graves must send / Those that we bury back, our monuments / shall be
the maws of kites (3.4.71 73). Macbeth is talking to the ghost of Banquo, and tells him if the
graves give back their dead in the form of ghost, the living shall kill themselves. Macbeth has
clearly gone mad, because he is seeing the ghost of the Banquo who he just had killed.

Revelations of Divine Love
Revelations of Divine Love is one of the most renowned Christian texts, mainly because it is
known to be the first published book in the English language that was written by a woman. It was
written by Julian of Norwich, a woman who reflects the nature of the medieval time period. She
would come to define a representation of the connection that people can have to divine beings in
many variety of forms by being a famous mystic. As she interprets her mystic experiences, she
depicts JesusChrist as a working mother of the Trinity. Her belief is that Christ embodies the
characteristics of motherhood and this would enable a caring and nurturing foundation for the
Christian faith. Christ as mother extends to both to the physical humanity in bodily bleeding and
suffering in order to give life and to the spirituality of Christ whom delivers the soul; eternal and
heavenly. This motherhood of Christ is a vital part of Julian s theology and the idea of feminine love
extends even to sin and salvation. But most of all, she depicts Christ as feminine, not to distinguish
him as being even more of a woman, but to analyze a blurring of the genders, having Christ, and
therefore God as beyond manmade categories. In turn, this would come to positively impact women
by having an idol that is not androgynous. This follows the Trinity being a father, mother and
lordship (Father, Son and Holy Ghost). Christianityis one of the largest religious practices in the
world and it has many different

Legion of Honor Essay
Throughout different time periods and civilizations come many different types of art that would
never be comparable to those of another time or place. There are also the pieces that come from
a completely different time and place, but yet they can still be compared to one another. The
Torso of a God (Egyptian, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18, last decade of the reign of Amenhotep III,
Granodiorite, 1359 1349 B.C.) and the Statue of Asklepios (Greek, Hellenistic period, Pentelic
Marble, 2nd century B.C.) are two sculptures made hundreds of years apart, yet they both display
many similarities and show how art is constantly changing whilst keeping the same core ideas. The

The statue shows the God in a good light and as a muscular and fit being, but at the same time is
portrayed in an extremely unrealistic way. The Statue of Asklepios is a classic Greek sculpture
that portrays a person of the most perfect and athletic form. The piece is of a man standing
beautifully while draped in a toga. The toga is draped over his left shoulder and cuts across to
the right side of his body near his lower abdomen and then continues to cover his legs until his
ankle. The toga also is draped over the pieces entire back. The piece is missing his head, his left
arm and both his right foot and almost its entire right arm. The piece has a smooth, but not
glossy, exterior in all of the areas except for the parts that have been broken off. Asklepios is
portrayed as an incredible fit and beautiful being. The abdomen is extremely muscular and shows
off the miraculous fitness of the model. The toga has many wrinkles, creating a lot of shadow
and darks and lights. It also is wrapped in a way that is both loose and tight in different areas of
the sculpture. It is tied right next to the left pectoral and the left armpit. This piece emphasizes the
muscular body of this man while at the same time portraying him standing in such a nonchalant
way through the curvature and relaxed look of the figure. And unlike the Torso of a God, this piece
clearly shows movement through the shape of the body and the folds of the toga because

The Meaning Of Propaganda
Propaganda can be viewed and described in many different ways. These many different views and
descriptions are based on the eye of the beholder and their views. In the propaganda poster Are we
afraid? No! what I see happening is that Britain and its colonies standing together to fight a common
threat. But, the irony in this is that they are fighting against an imperialistic country while they are
still imperialistic as well. This document has several different meanings or messages that it is trying
to convey. One meaning portrayed is imperialism, that Britain has many colonies ready to help in
their endeavor. They have the manpower from their colonie nations to help back up and strengthen
the motherland in this war if need be. While

Criticisms Of The Black Power Movement
Criticisms of the Black Power Movement
Criticisms of the Movement The Black Power movement received criticism from civil rights
activists and organizations, such as Bayard Rustin and the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Bayard Rustin who was a civil rights and African
American activist for nonviolence spoke out against the Black Power movement. Bayard Rustin
understood what the movement was trying to achieve but ultimately criticized the movement for
being divisive of the American people. Rustin believed that the movement had revealed two
Americas, one black, and one white.
Since the term black power did not have a concise definition some whites interpreted the term as an
expression of a new racism. 47 On the other hand, blacks defined it as a signal to whites that blacks
would no longer tolerate their violent treatment. Due to the tension the movement created Rustin
deemed the Black Power movement as a threat to the civil rights movement. Rustin said that the
Black Power movement diverts the (civil rights) movement from a meaningful debate over strategy
and tactics, it isolates the Negro community, and it encourages the growth of anti Negro forces. 48
This tension would hinder the civil rights movement from moving forward.
Bayard Rustin understood the frustration of black people and how black power emerged, though he
said black power was not the answer. Black power was not the answer because it would ultimately

Classifying Types of Shoppers
Shopping is a big deal to most people in this particular century. People are trained to shop a few
years after they are born. People shop for so many reasons. Some people shop to release stress and
others shop just for fun. Some people even classify shopping as a hobby. Just recently, a new kind
of shoppinghas started dominating gradually. Online shopping is little by little vanquishing all
other kinds of shopping and it is all thanks to shoppers. Without these dedicated shoppers, shopping
would have been a thing of the past. These shoppers are classified into three sub groups which
makes identification easier. There are the cheap shoppers, the spendthrifts, and the indifferent
shoppers who simply don t carabout anything.
Foremost are the cheap shoppers. This types shoppers are also known as bargainers. They are
easily recognized in any store because they are usually armed with a calculator and search through
the hardest to get at shelves. They are often seen working in pairs. They call their selves tag team
partners. Working I pairs enables cheap shoppers to readily compare prices from items in
different sections of the store or two separate stores. These shoppers can be found mainly on the
weekend, during a huge sale, or in the clearance sections of stores. They are always shopping for
cheap items and they are never concerned about the quality. Bargaining is what they do best. It is
their belief that no matter how low the price is, it can always be reduced to fit

Prokaryotes And Eukaryotes
Cells, a unique characteristic of life and the start of humanity at its finest. Discovered in 1653,
by a man named of Robert Hooke, coined the term Cells and was credited with it as well. The
scientist said it reminded him of the cells of a monastery. These building blocks of life could be
broken down into several different parts but the main two parts are prokaryote and eukaryote.
Prokaryotes are one celled organisms such as bacteria. Prokaryotes are able to thrive in very harsh
conditions including hydrothermal vents, hot springs, swamps, wetlands, and even the guts of
humans and animals, called extremophiles. Prokaryotes contain a set amount of organelles in which
are a cellwall, DNA, and cytoplasm. They do not reside a nucleus, but contains... Show more

The mitochondria takes glucose the chloroplast has produced and turns into Adenosine
Triphosphate better known as ATP. The energy source for this plant gives it the ability to
regulate a limited amount of power throughout the cell to perform its usual duties to help the cell
reproduce and maintain its general stability. Along the line another special organelle the helps
the cell regulates the waste products, which is known as the Lysosomes. Lysosomes contain
special enzymes called hydrolytic enzymes that digests the worn out organelles, macromolecules,
and breaks down viruses as well. The Lysosomes comes from the endoplasmic reticulum through
transport vesicles and goes to the Golgi body and that there the Lysosomes then transfers off of
the membrane bound organelle and then awaits the arrival of an intruder through phagocytosis.
Phagocytosis is the process by which a cell often a phagocyte or a protist engulfs a solid particle
to form an internal vesicle known as a phagosome. This here breaks down the invader and
dissolves it to heal the cell. This masculine like structure also breaks down dead organelles and
puts it back into the cell recycling its nutrients for it to use

Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi, Harriet Tubman, And Oprah
Leaders of Our Society
Are human rights prominent enough to be defended? In the eyes of Gandhi, Harriet Tubman, and
Oprah, they are. Gandhi was a man who wanted to end racial justice in all parts of the world,
while Harriet Tubman wanted to help guide the slaves from the South to the North so that they can
live a free life. However, instead of taking a more direct approach, Oprah Winfreyused a public
method. These three passionate individuals stood up to enact change by fighting for human rights
and staying persistent and determined. Mahatma Gandhi enacted change by striving to end racial
injustice. He did this to show that anyone of any race or religion should have equal rights.
According to Satyagraha: Gandhi s Legacy , it states, Gandhi developed his philosophy of
Satyagraha, or resistance through non violent civil disobedience to defend his rights and the
rights of all Indians and non whites (Studysync Editors). Gandhi himself had been faced with
discrimination. However, instead of ignoring the situation, Gandhi took a stand and did what
was right to ensure equality among all people. The Studysync Editors stay, As had been the case
in the southern United States, Indians and other non white people were forced to ride at the
back of trains, use separate facilities, and were treated as second class citizens. Gandhi believed
that this was wrong . With his opinions in mind, Gandhi decided to get his beliefs out by starting
non violent protest. As the leader he was, he lead many protests that included: unfair taxes and
oppressive discrimination, as well as alleviating poverty, helping in the women s liberation
movement, and ending caste discrimination. Studysync Editors wrote, Gandhi s work inspired
large scale global change. Resistance to British involvement in South Africa and in India helped
to inspire a movement of decolonization all over the world. Several political and spiritual leaders
were inspired by Gandhi s work... . Gandhi s influence to the civilization was a huge turning point
for those of the non white race. By his assiduous act and hope of impact, Gandhi didn t just catch
the eye of the discriminated but also the attention of others. Mahatma Gandhi is remembered today

Oedipus the King
The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle once identified the key ingredients of the tragedies that
his culture is so famous for. These ingredients include a character with a fatal flaw, the
realization of the fault for a particular problem and the final sudden reversal of fortune. For many
tragedies, the fatal flaw is demonstrated as excessive pride, which usually serves as the driving
force of the play s action. It is common, even beneficial, to have pride in oneself, but when it
becomes expressed as arrogance or in defiance of one s fate, it is considered excessive and often
leads men to engage in activities that will lead to their downfall. Aristotle (1998) stated the tragic
hero falls into bad fortune because of some flaw in his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the process of trying to avoid fate, he has committed some of the greatest sins imaginable to him
defiled his mother s bed, murdered his father and spawned monstrous children born of incest. Rather
than face the truth and unable to take the severe wound to his pride, Oedipus stabbed out his eyes
with broaches and walked away from Thebes forever, thereby sealing his doom through further
prideful actions. The sudden reversal of fortune has Oedipus walking away from Thebes a blind,
homeless beggar rather than the respected king he should have been based upon his more noble
qualities. While this is a surprise, it is nevertheless a logical possible conclusion to the events that
have taken place. This concept is brought out to greater extent in the film through the change in
setting. Pasolini begins and ends the film in a contemporary setting to when the film was made.
While the play suggests that Oedipus went wandering into the desert a self blinded beggar man, the
film indicates that he has been wandering a tortured individual for much longer than a normal
lifespan.
Thus, the elements of classic tragedy are carried throughout both play and film to slightly different
interpretations. In both, a fatal flaw within the character of Oedipus drives his actions that
eventually seal his own doom. Seen as it is throughout the various elements of the classic tragedian
format of first

Elizabeth Bishop s Icy Robe
The Bishop s Icy Robe
Part of a handful of women poets in the Modernist Era, Elizabeth Bishop wrote
around a hundred poems mostly containing dark themes which can be attributed to her
greatly compromised childhood. She has check mated the world of poetry and has
marked her name through her distinct style in poems such as A Death in Nova Scotia,
Sestina, and In the Waiting Room. The poem, Death in Nova Scotia, discusses a
young child coming to terms with her little cousins death and imagines what his afterlife
will be like. In Sestina, a grandmother and granddaughter shelter in a cold house while
the rain patters down on the roof. Clearly a greater, more omnipresent

continuously pops up through out the poem. It almost symbolizes fate (that s why it s so

in turn its safe to say that both speaker and Bishop are the same person because she is
living with the grandmother and holding back her true feelings. The speaker also
mentions that the house feels chilly (23) which can indicate that Bishop never felt
completely comfortable in her grandparents house and not her parents home (which no
longer existed). This poem parallels Bishops other poem Memories , and the reason for
that; the grand father kept telling the young child to be polite and almost submissive to
what he was saying because public appearance is important. So that thought transversely
relates to this because the speaker never cries (though she wants to). And lets the kettle s

distinct topics but are linked by the theme of a larger force propelling the speaker

Braveheart Patrick Henry Analysis
Liberty is something that can motivate people to take drastic actions, even go into war. One piece
that exemplifies this is Patrick Henry s Speech to the Virginia Council, in which, Patrick Henry
claims that people should fight for their liberty. It can also be seen in the movie Braveheart, by Mel
Gibson, during William Wallaces speech to his soldiers. Both men use their emotionally charged
speeches to try to get their audiences to fight for their liberty. Both Patrick Henry and, the
character, William Wallace use the idea of liberty to motivate their audiences. When Patrick
Henry addressed the Virginia Convention, he used the ideals of liberty from an oppressor. Patrick
Henry once pleaded, Give me liberty or give me death, (85). In this quote Henry cries for a
government of his choosing, Henry is trying to exclaim for the audiencethat they should want to
live how they desire and not how someone else desires them to live. As a closing to his argument
this emotionally charged statement is how Henry tries to rally the crowd. Henry used emotion
throughout his speech, in the beginning Henry exclaimed, ... I consider it as nothing less than a
question of freedom or slavery... (83). He is telling the Convention that the British are practically
enslaving the colonists because they are forcing them around with soldiers. Henry also uses this to
motivate people to fight for their beliefs. Because Henry uses emotion, motivation, and rebellion
from oppression Henry focussed on

Football And Soccer s Roles In Soccer And Football
A player carries the ball down the field, the crowd cheers with ebullience as the professional
closes in for the score. The player has one man to beat and makes a daring move. The crowd
gasps and the air escapes the stadium. With determination, the player scores and the crowd erupts
with an explosion of cheers and hoots and hollers! Now, did the competitor score a goal or a
touchdown? Without proper context, both choices could be correct. However, with proper context,
the answer becomes rather clear. Even though the soccer and football contain eleven players from
each team on the playing field, differences exist between each player s role and their positioning
on the field of play. Eleven fГєtbol players exist on the pitch from each squad. With eleven players
on the soccer pitch from each team and the constant movement, an individual player s role on the
team might bewilder a spectator. When it comes to formation, the field divides into three parts:
defenders, midfielders, and attackers. The defenders job can be simplified down to one task: do
not let the opposition score. Also, some defenders may play a more aggressive role and act as a
midfielder. Midfielders generally position themselves on the field between the defenders and
forwards. Some midfielders play a disciplined defensive role by breaking up attacks as defensive
midfielders. Holding midfielders blur the barriers, being more mobile and efficient in passing. The
amount of midfielders on the field and their assigned

Injustice Native American Injustice
Native Americans have been subjected to injustice since the beginning of the discovery of the
New World. Whether it s been through what is defined as genocide by some people, or being
pushed out westward by the government and having land stripped away. This maltreatment has
shaped the views of many people about Native American s rights. The topic of Native Americans
has interested me because there has been so much injustice committed against them, yet there have
been little to no attempts to amend them. I have never encountered a Native American and it made
me realize how scarce their race is at this point in time. This realization made me keen on
researching the discrimination Native Americans have been put through and what people have
been doing to stop it. Through my research, I found that there is quite a large controversy about
whether or not the mass killings of Native Americans were considered Genocide. Native Americans
are still being stripped of their holy lands, such as the Dakota Pipeline, ruining their beautiful
culture and history in the process. Native Americans have been subjected to mistreatment, however
there remains a large population of people that don t think about the inequality they are exposed to.
The injustice being committed needs to be read about in order to understand and improve the
conditions that Native American tribes live in. Upon the arrival of the Europeans, Native
Americans were subjected to mass murder, or as some people refer to it

Under The Feet Of Jesus By Helena Maria Viramontes
The Power of Ethnicity How do we define power in our society? Do you we look at those with
money or those who acquire many things? According to Michael Parenti the structure of whether
or not someone is defined in the sense of powerful or powerlessness relies on their social class
and ethnicity. In the novella Under the Feet of Jesus by Helena Maria Viramontes, we see the
development of powerthrough the main characterEstrella. It is clear that although Estrella s
background as a powerless migrant workerstruggling to support her family financially she shifts
into a powerful role as an empowered young latina woman. The novella tells the story of a young
migrant worker who is faced the the responsibility to help care for her family not only financially
but in a manner of leadership as well. Throughout the story the character of Estrella changes
drastically from a timid outcast to an outspoken leader. In the beginning Estrella is portrayed as a
quiet young woman who is defined as an outsider. When looking at the character of Estrella she is
characterized in the category as powerless. One reason that we can attribute Estrella s state of
power is her socio economic circumstances. Coming from a family of five, Estrella assumes the role
as the oldest daughter as well as second mother due to her father s recent abandonment on the
family. It is because of this abandonment that Estrella resents her mother s older boyfriend Perfecto,
who in return has gotten her mother pregnant.

Essay on Technology in Greg Bear s Blood Music
Technology in Greg Bear s Blood Music Different genres of literature are particular responses to
society; therefore, cyberpunk, as a genre, is a response to our contemporary society, known as the
information age. One of the attributes given the genre is that it has an apocalyptic or post
apocalyptic tone, warning the reader of the perils of technology, while at the same time
celebrating the possibilities of technology, usually through a strong character in the novel. In Greg
Bear s Blood Music, technology is seen as having a destructive and creative forces as it reshapes

Although the idea of having a world without sickness, age, and death seems appealing, Greg Bear
approaches the idea from the what if perspective of something going wrong that could be
detrimental to the whole of society. In Bear s novel, Vergil, an ingenious scientist, creates smart
cells from his own body, going behind the experiments of his company which is trying desperately
to develop the nanotechnology that we are trying to achieve in our own time, and creates natural
cells that can think on their own to manipulate their environment and make it better. Only, when the
cells realize the problems within the living system and begin to change things, it is more that
Virgil bargained for. Each cell from every other living thing is incorporated and melted into an
alternate society, making each cell sentient, but also part of a communal group, sharing DNA, and
ultimately throughout the information transference, making each individual a part of the genetic
whole. Because Virgil s creation ended the world as we know it through the use of technology, it
can be seen as the dark, forbidding text common to cyberpunk fiction. People are melting down

I Am African Born And Raised
I would love to think that your family background and where come from should not predict how
you communicate in life, but who you grew up with, who are your family and where you grew up
definitely has a lot of influence of how you are going to communicate later in life
There is no doubt that Africans and Middle Eastern people are one of the loudest human beings in

Frailty In Geriatric Patients
While various objective tools have been validated for assessing frailty in the geriatric population,
these are often unsuitable for busy clinics and mobility impaired patients. Although we have
developed the Frailty Meter (FM) using two wearable sensors for frailty assessment during a 20
second repetitive elbow flexionand extensiontask, there is a dearth of information regarding an
automatic algorithm for identifying frailty with a practicality for mHealth application. In this
study, we proposed a practical wrist type FM based on a wearable inertial sensor with an optimal

Classification of Beer
What s more refreshing on a hot summer day than a nice cold beer? Or how about drinking a nice
cold one with some buddies after work at a local bar, sound nice doesn t it? Beer has been around
for many years and will probably be around for many more. A beer is any variety of alcoholic
beverages produced by the fermentation of starchy material derived from grains or other plant
sources. The production of beerand some other alcoholic beverages is often called brewing. Most
every culture has there own tradition and the own take on beer, thus producing many different
styles and variations.
Simply put, a beer style is a label given to a beer that describes its overall character and often times
its origin. It s a name badge that has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the secondary stage, the lager clears and mellows. The cooler conditions also inhibit the
natural production of esters and other byproducts, resulting in a crisper tasting beer. Modern
methods of producing lager were pioneered by Gabriel Sedlmayr the Younger, who perfected dark
brown lagers at the Spaten Brewery in Bavaria, and Anton Dreher, who began brewing a lager,
probably of amber red color, in Vienna in 1840В–1841. With modern improved fermentation
control, most lager breweries use only short periods of cold storage, typically 1В–3 weeks. Most of
today s lager is based on the Pilsner style, pioneered in 1842 in the town of PlzeГІ, in the Czech
Republic. The modern Pilsner lager is light in colour and high in carbonation, with a mild hop
flavour and an alcohol content of 3В–6% by volume. The Budweiser brand of beer is a typical
example of a pilsner.
The five main sub catagories of lagers are: pilsner, bock, helles, dunkel and Oktoberfest. Pilsners
defining elements were the extremely soft water that was pumped locally and the unique
aromatic hops that were also grown nearby. Pilsners are malty sweet, and well hopped. Caramel
flavors are often noticed accompanied by medium to high bitterness. Pilsners have a good amount
of carbonation and are clean and crisp. Bock beer is a hearty beer with high alcohol content.
Contrary to the rumor, bock beer is not what s cleaned out of the

The Expansive First Movement From Schubert s Rosamunde
The expansive first movement from Schubert s Rosamunde quartet is an odyssey in which the
principal melody, first heard in A minor, sets out on an epic quest for the attainment of A major.
Laid out in a straight forward Sonata Form, the Primary theme appears as a triple period, with the
last of the three phrases being in A major. The violent cadence in m. 32 dramatically switches the
mode back into a menacing A minor, completely forfeiting the three tries in which the Primary
theme so yearningly made to establish itself in A major. In looking through the movement, not only

33, and make their final appearance in m. 270 as a pick up gesture to the closing material of the
Recapitulation before the Coda. Otherwise, this triplet figure features strongly in the more flurried
parts of the movement, namely in the transitional material of the Primary theme and the transitional
material of the Secondary theme. They are conspicuously missing from areas of relative passivity,
such as the main thematic areas of both the Primary and Secondary themes. Enigmatically, the
triplet figure does not feature in the Development. It is possible to see that this triplet figure
features most prominently in areas that are highly unstable. Beginning right after the cataclysmic A
minor chord in m. 32, the triplet figure first appears in m. 33 as just a tail of the cadence, as if it
were turbulence caused by the suddenness of the cadence. It appears again shortly after another
strong cadence in D minor (down one step in the circle of fifths), again as an after thought. The
triplet figure returns again, this time with full force and intention in m. 44, acting as both the motor
rhythmic element as well as a linear underpinning in a sequence of the descending circle of fifths.
The figure disappears in m. 56 into eighth notes through rhythmic augmentation, just as the the
movement reaches the Medial Caesura. The triplet figure is then absent for the next ten measures,
where an antecedent consequent structure forms

different mothers. Most notably, she talks about the Chinese Mother, which does not technically
mean this individual must be of Chinese descent. Throughout the essay, Kolbert talks about another
essay, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. The author of that essay, Amy Chua, believes in a binary
world. Meaning that there are two kinds of mothers, Chinese Mothers , and Western mothers.
Chinese mothers believe in extreme parenting, whereas Western mothers think they are being strict
when they insist that their children practice their instruments for half an hour a day (Kolbert). On

She believes that teaching this way makes the child learn a sense of competition and as well all
know, that will get you far in life. Competition makes everyone and everything better. The author
makes very valid points throughout the whole essay and even uses someone else s story to back
up their information. The information given during the text is quite significant to the back up
the points the author is making. Like stated earlier, using someone else s story is a good way to
make sure the information is correct. Throughout the text, the author will use words that may not
seem clear at first, but Kolbert does a respectable job of clearing things up for the reading and
making it easier to follow along. Since the author based their essay of the basis of another person
s writing, it is safe to say that the author used and interpreted the information very well. Quotes
were used frequently throughout. Kolbert did a lot of wonderful things with the text, however, not
many times did you feel the sense of an argument. The sense of just a general summary was felt
the whole time. Overall the author did a very nice job gathering this information and giving it back
in a way that the audience had a good understanding on where she stood with this issue.

The Causes And Abuse Of The Catholic Church
Catholic religion is one of the oldest religions, highly practiced in the United States. It is a
religion with a set of beliefs such as practicing celibacy among the priests and nuns. Each and
every state in America has several parishes and a bishop that oversees the operations of the
churches in those said regions. For instance, in the State of Phoenix, there is a bishopwith several
priests in every parish handling the operations of the churches. The Catholics follow a set of
beliefs and traditions that mirror the morality in the society. However, these beliefs are being
eroded by the some of the followers in various parts of the world. In fact, the Catholic Churchhas

Majority of the people ha come forward and reported the incidents of clerical sexual misconducts.
They have done so under investigative reporting talking about years of abuse on the part of the
priests together with cover ups and patterns of secrecy by church officials that aided in allowing
these accused priests in continuing to their ministries in the various parishes and this involved
interaction with mirrors. Canonical, civil, and criminal sanctions have been directed to several
bishops, priests, and even dioceses. However, there are those that have managed to escape the

Humanitarian military intervention must only be utilized in a limited set of circumstances. First,

cleansing, genocide, and crimes against humanity. Second, global powers may use military
intervention as a last resort, having exhausted all other non militant options. Finally, interventions
who meet the first two criteria must only respond to the situation with a proportionate response. In

10 Things You Should Know About Sigmund Freud

Freud was born as Sigismund Schlomo Freud on May 6, 1856. His father Joseph was a 41 year
old wool merchant who already had two children from a previous marriage. Freud s mother,
Amalia, was twenty years younger than her husband. The failure of his father s business forced
the Freud family to move from their home in Freiberg, Moravia to Vienna. Freud has seven
siblings, yet he often described himself as his mother s special favorite her golden Siggie. I have

Freud Probably Never Really Said Sometimes a Cigar Is Just a Cigar
While the famous quote is often repeated and attributed to Freud, there is no evidence that he ever
actually said it. Freud was a lifelong cigar smoker, smoking up to twenty a day according to his
biographer Ernst Jones. As the story goes, someone once asked Freud what the cigar he so often
smoked symbolized. The response is meant to suggest that even the famous psychoanalyst believed
that not everything held an underlying, symbolic meaning. In reality, the quote is most likely the
invention of a journalist that was later mistakenly identified as a quote by Freud.
8. Sigmund Freud Visited the United States Only Once in His Life
In 1909, American psychologist G. Stanley Hall invited Sigmund Freud to talk about psychoanalysis
at Clark University. While he initially declined the offer, Freud was eventually persuaded by
Hall s persistence. Freud traveled to America with his colleagues Carl Jung and Sandor Ferenczi.
After meeting up with A.A. Brill and Ernst Jones, the group spent several days sightseeing in
New York before traveling to Clark University where Freud delivered a series of five lectures on the
history and rise of psychoanalysis. As I stepped onto the platform, Freud described, it seemed like
the realization of some incredible daydream: Psychoanalysis was no longer a product of delusion it
had become a valuable part of reality (Wallace, 1975).

American Revolutionary War
A motivating force behind the revolution was the American embrace of a political ideology called
republicanism , which was dominant in the colonies by 1775. The country party in Britain, whose
critique of British government emphasized that corruption was to be feared, influenced American
politicians. The commitment of most Americans to republican values and to their rights, helped
bring about the American Revolution, as Britain was increasingly seen as hopelessly corrupt and
hostile to American interests; it seemed to threaten to the established liberties that Americans
enjoyed. The greatest threat to liberty was depicted as corruption. The colonists associated it with
luxury and, especially, inherited aristocracy, which they condemned.... Show more content on

The Americans were totally unaware that the British would try to cross the creek in separate
places. Washington backtracked to Chester, Pennsylvania. A British pursuit was stopped by a
rearguard unit; therefore, Howe could not occupy the abandoned capital until September 26.
British deaths totaled to about 600 and American losses were 900 dead and wounded, along with
400 taken prisoner. After Howe s victory at Brandywine, his army camped at Germantown,
Pennsylvania. Washington planned a surprise attack against the redcoats at sunrise. He broke the
army into four separate columns for battle. The American soldiers marched to Germantown by
two roads, with General Sullivan to the right and General Greene to the left. Washington, along
with General Wayne, joined Sulliven and caused the British to fall back. Some hundred men ran
and hid in the Chew house, a large stone building, and returned fire from the second story. Instead
of by passing the building, Colonel Knox believed that they should destroy the house with the
redcoats in it. Knox s fired cannons at the home, which merely bounced back at them. The fog and
smoke caused massive confusion for several others of Washington s columns. All of a sudden two
American divisions collided and fired upon each other. More and more mishaps followed, and
finally Washington men retreated. In June of 1775 in Charlestown the British were awaken from

Men, Women and Gender Boundaries in Sports Essay
Men, Women and Gender Boundaries in Sports
Today, we are seeing many changes in regard to gender and its place in the athletic world. More
than ever, men and women are crossing gender boundaries and entering a non traditional sport for
their sex. Of course this boundary crossing is significant culturally and socially as it challenges
conventional view of male and female characteristics and roles. When altering a customary view of
gender in a society, there are both costs and benefits to that society. This paper will discuss the
costs and benefits to a traditionally male centered culture when women and men cross gender lines
in sport, and provide examples of different sports in which gender lines are being erased.

Prejudice in any form cannot afford to exist in the international community if we all hope to live
together in peace and progress. Women play an important role in this community, including the
world of sports. Females need to be taken seriously in athletics if they are to be taken seriously at
all. To say that a female cannot play sports is to imply that she is weaker than a male, and thus
her worth and credibility are tarnished. Boxing, for example, is a traditional male sport that
women were not encouraged to participate in until fairly recently. However, women such as Laila
Ali and Jacqui Frazier demonstrate that women can not only be good boxers, but champion
boxers. Also, bodybuilding is a traditional male sport in which women have been participating.
Andrea Silva Izard and Laura Binetti are two currently well known body builders. Even another
male sport into which women have made an entrance is racecar driving. Sarah Fisher and Allison

Yet, allowing women into male sports only solves half the problem of gender equality. Men must be
allowed to participate in sports traditionally seen as female orientated. Although I tried to research

whatever you want this is my opinion not yours. I don t care for DC comics at all they only
have a few good characters and even they can be unbearable sometimes. Marvel on the other
hand is the exact opposite of this Marvel has almost only great characters and a few bad ones.My
first reason Marvel is better is because they have Spider Man. Spider Man in my opinion is in the

villain in there own comic books. I realize that we quite plainly ripped off Deadpool from there

America Civil War but it was nonetheless still a good movie. DC has only made like 5 live
action CGI movies and 3 of those completely sucked. Wonder Woman was good and Suicide
Squad was alright but the rest are just complete garbage. Now Marvel has over 15 movies and
all of them are amazing Guardians Of The Galaxy blew my mind And I didn t even know who

Now don t get me wrong DC can do some good things with their characters. Like how they did

Description Of The Age Of Viability
Samuel Joseph
Worksheet #2
1. Describe the age of viability .
By 21 to 22 weeks after fertilization, the lungs gain some room to breathe air. This is called the
age of viability because survival outside the womb becomes possible for some fetuses.
2. Describe some of the rapid growth that takes place during the first two years of life.
Growth is speedy during the first two years of life. The child s mass, form, senses, and organs
undergo change. As each physical change occurs, the child gains new abilities. Physical
development during the first year of the child s life, mainly involves the infant coordinating motor
skills. The infant builds physical strength and motor coordination by repeating several motor
actions.
3. When was the last time that you saw an infant? Describe what the baby was doing.
The last time I seen an infant was when I was at my uncle house before I left for school.
Although it was quiet and not making any noise the baby was very observant and was aware
when I came in the room. He had his pacifier and I picked him up to play with him briefly before I
left.
4. Briefly describe the most frequent activity that an infant does. Now...take your own sleep quiz
and see if you are sleep deprived.
The most frequent activity an infant does is cry and babble. Crying is almost an automatic thing
when it comes to infants, you really have to be able to understand the reason in which they are

Is Technology Good or Bad For Us? Technology has been around for a very long time now. In
some way or another, it s been a part of people s lives nowadays whether it s cell phones, tv,
computers, tablets, we all own one or more of these things. Digital electronics started between
the late 1950 s and 1970 s. According to Forbes, the first document which included the discussion
of building a computer was on June 30, 1945. Back in the day, technology wasn t as popular or
used as it is now. It amazes me to see how much it has grown. From box Tv s to flat screen tvs to
smart tv s that can connect to other online sites such as youtube, and Netflix. Phones have gone
from house phones, to flip phones, to smartphones. It s hard to believe sometimes how far
technology has grown. Technology overall, is good for high school, college students. It helps
them in many ways one is being able to do research online. My question has always been whether
technology is good or bad for younger generations by Dr. Manny Alvarez. As said by him, nearly
every modern parent has given a tablet or smartphone to a child for entertainment. By entertainment,

programs, which have success rates of less than 10 percent, towards such a program that allows
alcoholics to enjoy a drink or two but be able to stop at that. However, while successful in curbing
alcohol consumption in mice trials, the drug has yet to be trialed on humans. This poses two
issues; firstly while the drug is FDA approved it is currently used at most two or three times per
year in humans, for the treatment of parasitic infections. However, alcoholism is a chronic disease,
therefore in order for the drug to be effective, it would need to be taken daily. Secondly, while the
drug has been successful in altering the drinking patterns of mice, it might not prove to have the
same success in

Figurative Language In Goblin Market
Goblin Market is a narrative unlike other poems. The two sisters, Laura and Lizzie, were narrating
the story to their children. And since this poem is a narrative, it is a very long poem; it contains
twenty eight stanzas and one hundred and thirty nine lines. But like most poems, Goblin Market
has unique structure, language, themes, symbols, and figurative language. The structure and style
of this narrative is extravagant. The rhyme is one factor that contributes to the uniqueness of the
style of the poem. Christina Rossettiprovides very vivid details, from the smallest to largest things.
She describes the fruit and the goblins, from the color and shape of each fruit to the looks and
personality of each of the goblins.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, it is used to describe Lizzie s positive actions to show the importance of them.
Simile is one of the most used types of figurative languages in this poem. Like a lily in a flood.
(Rossetti, 409) this quote is inferring that a beauty and innocence is being surrounded and
devoured by an evil or horror of the goblins. Like a beacon left alone in a hoary roaring sea.
(Rossetti, 412 413) In these lines, the setting of the passage was very dangerous like the waves
in the ocean, but she was still left unharmed despite the violence and danger. Like a rock of blue
veined stone lashed by tides obstreperously. (Rossetti, 410 411) The imagery in this poem gives
true and detailed insight on the character of Laura, and shows how important strength and
innocence develops in the passage. Imagery is used when goblins furiously attack Lizzie. Close
beleaguered by a fleet mad to tug her standard down (Rossetti, 420 421) and royal virgin town
(Rossetti, 418) are two great examples and uses of imagery. In these two lines, an image of Lizzie
defending her home of sorts against an attack, and she stands her ground to defend it against the

The Crystal Clear Water Feels Refreshing To The Touch.
The crystal clear water feels refreshing to the touch. As you look around and see the life that is
surrounded by this natural place of beauty. Though it may look like a haven for all who dwell
there, like anything it has a dark side. The ocean can be a cruel and unforgiving force that should
not be reckoned with. Filled with what scientists believe to be millions of aquatic species. Sea
Algae is one of those species that is a plant and not that cool. Cool animals are whales, dolphins,
sharks, and fish. They are all amazing and are the kings of the oceans. The ocean covers about
75% of the Earth s surfaces. The climate of the ocean depends on where you are i the world. In the

This is why it is so vital to the survival of the ocean population. Like nitrogen, Carbon is absorbed
and dissolved into the surface of the ocean. Tiny marine plants called phytoplankton use
photosynthesis to turn much of the carbon dissolved into the ocean into organic matter. Some
organisms use it to make the material used for shells and skeletons, calcium carbonate. By using up
carbon through chemical and biological processes, there is more allowance for carbon dioxide to
enter the water from the atmosphere. The nickname carbon sink has been given to the ocean
because it absorbs more carbon than it lets out.
The relationship between humans and the ocean could once be categorized as commensalism,
where the human was helped, and the ocean was neither helped nor harmed. Now, it has some of
the same characteristics of parasitism. Humans continue to fish, sail, and explore in the ocean.
One of the largest impacts humans have on the ocean is pollution. Beaches across the world are
littered with trash and toxic materials, in and out of the water. Since every ocean connects, a
piece of trash could start in Cuba, and end up somewhere on the coast of Madagascar. To try and
reverse the damage done, there are clean up attempts all around the world to try and make the
ocean what it once was. Trash left over isn t the only problem going on. Every once in awhile,
there will be a large boat, transferring oil from one continent to another. The BP oil spill in

Pan s Labyrinth Themes
Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane A child s imagination is the most powerful weapon he or she can
be armed with and it is within Guillermo Del Toro s captivating and Academy Award winning
film, Pan s Labyrinth that we are presented with this concept as well as themes of existentialism
and duality. Various motifs such as; brutality, innocence, childhood and war, allow Del Toro to
construct two worlds that are all too real and very similar for one young girl. Set in Spain 1944
during a time when people are forced to choose between their beliefs and their survival, Ofelia
(Ivana Baquero) is compelled to choose her faith in fantasies over her hope in humanity. Ofelia is
in a battle of good vs. evil vs. innocence and must realize that all three cannot thrive. The opening
and ending scenes of Del Toro s film show Ofelia s birth, death and rebirth while simultaneously
providing the answers to the frequent philosophical questions Del Toro exhibited. The... Show more

At this stage of the movie, the faun character is completely rejuvenated and is with Ofelia but is
fixated on opening the labyrinth s portal. The faun s transformation from old to young was done
intentionally so that Ofelia s character could be judged properly. It is much harder to say no
when temptation presents itself in a beautiful form. Ofelia s good nature and pure heart would
be revealed in this moment and this was something del Toro wanted to exemplify. Ending a film
with a child dying is disturbing however; del Toro chooses to make her death about redemption
since she regained her innocence through death (i.e. rebirth). Ofelia would be born again and
assume her role as Princess of the fantasy realm she desperately desired to be apart of. The final
shot of Ofelia mirrors the opening shot of the film but this time, blood drips down and out of her
nose while the nostalgic song plays softly, signifying the

To What Extent Was Ancient Athens A Democracy Dbq
Facts and information lead to the fact that Athens truly was a democracy. First of all, what is a
democracy? A democracy is a form of government that the people of that state or country run. To
prove that ancient Athens actually was a democracy, here are three pieces of evidence to prove so.
Unlike our government, the people of Athens ran their government, compared to our government,
where we elect representatives to run our government for us. First, democracy is the rule of the
whole of the people, excluding minors and maniacs only (Doc D). The only people who had a say
in the Athenian government were the male citizens. Women, children, and slave had no say
whatsoever. The males had all the say on what they felt the city state needed in

Children At Bedtime Is Not Part Of My Parents
As the child snuggles into bed, the mother opens the worn down book filled with vivid, colorful
pictures and words flow out her mouth one by one. This is the scene of many homes every night
across the country, but it never was in my home. Reading to children at bedtime is not part of my
parents culture because they lived in a country where bookshad never been easily accessible outside
of school. It is at school is where I got exposure to readingand writingand where my literacy
journey began. Since then, my reading and writing has gone through a roller coaster course of
events which has lead them to where it is now.
In Kindergarten, the first place I was surrounded by English, my teacher would place thin
picture books in my shiny, pink book bag that was to be read at home. Once home, I would just
place the book on my dresser. Because nobody in my house, including me, could read the books,
the books collected dust until it was time to take back. I did not care for reading at this time and
made no effort to change. However, the addition of reading and comprehension tests ignited my
hatred of reading. Every so often my teacher would drag a table and two chairs outside into the
endless hallway, ignoring the screeching sound it made as it traveled in to the hallway. She
would place a book on the table that one was to read out loud and in her hands was rubric filled
with countless questions that she soon would ask. My heart would beat rapidly as I waited inside,

Relationship Between Leaf Size And Annual Sex Expression
Relationship between leaf size and annual sex expression in Arisaema triphyllum
VICKY NGUYEN
University of Toronto, Scarborough
Summary
Disparity in cost of reproduction has lead sexually reproducing plants to develop different methods
of dealing with the cost of reproduction, an example of this is sequential hermaphroditism, where an
individual can change sex at one point in their life. Jack in the pulpit, Arisaema triphyllum, is a
sexually dimorphic plant that exhibits sequential hermaphroditism, this study looks to see if female
A. triphyllum will exhibit the largest leaf sizes due to their need to meet higher costs of reproduction
. Forty individuals were surveyed for sex and largest leaf length per area for 7 different locations
within Morningside ravine. Individuals were analyzed for mean leaf length per sex, and means
were analyzed for significance with a 1 way ANOVA followed by a tukey test. All means were
found to be significantly different from each other with the mean of females leaves the largest,
followed by males, and asexual individuals were the smallest. Female individuals of A. triphyllum
had the largest leaf sizes to compensate for their elevated costs of reproduction. The size advantage
model explains that that female A. triphyllum will have the largest leaves because female
individuals are able to best meet the costs of reproduction at larger sizes.

Trade Routes
1. Indian Ocean Trade
The Indian Ocean Trade included overland and sea trade routes that extended from China to the
Swahili Coast to the Middle East. It provided easy access to cheaper and more frequent trade during
the monsoon seasons because sailors could depend on the predictable monsoon winds. Cultural
diffusion occurred through peaceful trade that was dominated by merchants. Technology, ideas,
religion, and products also spread throughout the trade routes. The Indian Ocean Trade was the first
time that goods were being traded in mass market.

Many of the principles of Gilead are based on Old Testament beliefs. Discuss Atwoods use of
biblical allusions and their political significance in the novel.
The Handmaids Tale is a book full of biblical allusions, before Atwood begins the text an epigraph
gives us an extract from Genesis 30: 1 3
And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto
Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.
And Jacob s anger was kindled against Rachel; and he said, Am I in God s stead, who hath

And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I

Gilead is a place of evildoers, tracked with blood
The evildoers mentioned are robbers and harlotry, the prostitution obviously occurring in Jezebel s,
the local brothel in Gilead. The communal ethics of Gilead are based on the Old Testament, where
patriarchal supremacy is justified as the commandment of God.
Atwood uses biblical place names in The Handmaids Tale such as All Flesh , Milk and Honey and
Jezebel s . Milk and Honey is a representation of hope. In the Old Testament, Moses took his
people through the land of Milk and Honey in order to set them free. Atwood has used this as a
place name in order to give the reader and the Handmaids a sense of hope, so that they may one
day be set free also. This is also fashioned by the people of Gilead being prohibited from
protesting because they are notified that in the future God will recompense them for what they
have endured in the past. In doing this they offer hope to a society that has an exceptionally modest
amount. Jezebel s is also a biblical word meaning prostitution, and is the name of a nightclub in The
Handmaids Tale which the commander regularly goes to.
Passages from the Old Testament are modified to suit the teachings of the new regime. For
example, the loss of Eden would be blamed directly on women, whereas infact both Adam and Eve
ate the poisoned apple offered to them by Satan. The governmental body of

The story is suppose to signify how

  • 2. Increase Home Ownership The increase in home ownership in the balance between the home owner and the private rental sector. Home ownership began to fall in early 2000s, and the fall has increased since then, with the decline more than 4% in the five years between 2007 2008 and 2012 2013 (Belfield et al, 2015). Due to the number increase of home ownership in the country. The people who are struggling to purchase a house are the young people. Over the last decade, there has been an increase in the proportion of younger person household in the UK. The people at age under 30 are living in privately rented properties, around 30% in 1997 to 49% in 2009. On the other hand, the percentage of young people buying their own homes with a mortgage has decreased from 43% to 29%... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evidence shows that many tenants also fall into at least one other group considered to be at higher risk of experiencing financial exclusion. In which 25% are people over 65 years, 16% are at an age between 16 24, 16% have a disability or long term illness, 6% are the Black and Ethnic minority, 59% of women and 72% in receipt of housing benefit. There is a difference between the generation of today and home ownership; those born later are somewhat less likely to be homeowners than their predecessor at the same stage in their life. Evidence shows that, the growth of home ownership rate with age for people born in different years. Those who are born in mid 1970 now aged in their late 30s have lower rates of home ownership than the people who were born before them (Belfield et al, 2015). Also for those who were fortunate to have bought their house under the Right to Buy scheme have a higher rate of home ownership compared to those who did not get the opportunity to do so. For those who are aged 25, have a homeowner rate of, 45% compared with 33% of those born in the 1970s cohort and only 20% in born 1980s cohort. This evidence has been suggested that this change may well out to be a permanent difference between generation rather than simply changes in the timing of house purchase due to he factor such as changing in the timing and family formation (Belfield et al, 2015; ONS, ... It show how the singer has gone crazy, which is exactly what is happening to Macbeth during this act. The singer declares, I think I m a banana tree, oh dear, I m going slightly mad (Queen) which shows exactly who senseless the person has become. The same is true with Macbethwhen he cries, If charnel houses and our graves must send / Those that we bury back, our monuments / shall be the maws of kites (3.4.71 73). • 5. Revelations of Divine Love Revelations of Divine Love is one of the most renowned Christian texts, mainly because it is known to be the first published book in the English language that was written by a woman. It was written by Julian of Norwich, a woman who reflects the nature of the medieval time period. She would come to define a representation of the connection that people can have to divine beings in many variety of forms by being a famous mystic. As she interprets her mystic experiences, she depicts JesusChrist as a working mother of the Trinity. Her belief is that Christ embodies the characteristics of motherhood and this would enable a caring and nurturing foundation for the Christian faith. Christ as mother extends to both to the physical humanity in bodily bleeding and suffering in order to give life and to the spirituality of Christ whom delivers the soul; eternal and heavenly. This motherhood of Christ is a vital part of Julian s theology and the idea of feminine love extends even to sin and salvation. But most of all, she depicts Christ as feminine, not to distinguish him as being even more of a woman, but to analyze a blurring of the genders, having Christ, and therefore God as beyond manmade categories. In turn, this would come to positively impact women by having an idol that is not androgynous. This follows the Trinity being a father, mother and lordship (Father, Son and Holy Ghost). Christianityis one of the largest religious practices in the world and it has many different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Legion of Honor Essay Throughout different time periods and civilizations come many different types of art that would never be comparable to those of another time or place. There are also the pieces that come from a completely different time and place, but yet they can still be compared to one another. The Torso of a God (Egyptian, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18, last decade of the reign of Amenhotep III, Granodiorite, 1359 1349 B.C.) and the Statue of Asklepios (Greek, Hellenistic period, Pentelic Marble, 2nd century B.C.) are two sculptures made hundreds of years apart, yet they both display many similarities and show how art is constantly changing whilst keeping the same core ideas. The statue shows the God in a good light and as a muscular and fit being, but at the same time is portrayed in an extremely unrealistic way. The Statue of Asklepios is a classic Greek sculpture that portrays a person of the most perfect and athletic form. The piece is of a man standing beautifully while draped in a toga. The toga is draped over his left shoulder and cuts across to the right side of his body near his lower abdomen and then continues to cover his legs until his ankle. The toga also is draped over the pieces entire back. The piece is missing his head, his left arm and both his right foot and almost its entire right arm. The piece has a smooth, but not glossy, exterior in all of the areas except for the parts that have been broken off. Asklepios is portrayed as an incredible fit and beautiful being. The abdomen is extremely muscular and shows off the miraculous fitness of the model. The toga has many wrinkles, creating a lot of shadow and darks and lights. It also is wrapped in a way that is both loose and tight in different areas of the sculpture. It is tied right next to the left pectoral and the left armpit. This piece emphasizes the muscular body of this man while at the same time portraying him standing in such a nonchalant way through the curvature and relaxed look of the figure. And unlike the Torso of a God, this piece clearly shows movement through the shape of the body and the folds of the toga because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Criticisms Of The Black Power Movement Criticisms of the Black Power Movement Criticisms of the Movement The Black Power movement received criticism from civil rights activists and organizations, such as Bayard Rustin and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Bayard Rustin who was a civil rights and African American activist for nonviolence spoke out against the Black Power movement. Bayard Rustin understood what the movement was trying to achieve but ultimately criticized the movement for being divisive of the American people. Rustin believed that the movement had revealed two Americas, one black, and one white. Since the term black power did not have a concise definition some whites interpreted the term as an expression of a new racism. 47 On the other hand, blacks defined it as a signal to whites that blacks would no longer tolerate their violent treatment. Due to the tension the movement created Rustin deemed the Black Power movement as a threat to the civil rights movement. Rustin said that the Black Power movement diverts the (civil rights) movement from a meaningful debate over strategy and tactics, it isolates the Negro community, and it encourages the growth of anti Negro forces. 48 This tension would hinder the civil rights movement from moving forward. Bayard Rustin understood the frustration of black people and how black power emerged, though he said black power was not the answer. Some people shop to release stress and others shop just for fun. Some people even classify shopping as a hobby. Just recently, a new kind of shoppinghas started dominating gradually. Online shopping is little by little vanquishing all other kinds of shopping and it is all thanks to shoppers. Without these dedicated shoppers, shopping would have been a thing of the past. These shoppers are classified into three sub groups which makes identification easier. There are the cheap shoppers, the spendthrifts, and the indifferent shoppers who simply don t carabout anything. Foremost are the cheap shoppers. This types shoppers are also known as bargainers. They are easily recognized in any store because they are usually armed with a calculator and search through the hardest to get at shelves. They are often seen working in pairs. They call their selves tag team partners. Working I pairs enables cheap shoppers to readily compare prices from items in different sections of the store or two separate stores. These shoppers can be found mainly on the weekend, during a huge sale, or in the clearance sections of stores. They are always shopping for cheap items and they are never concerned about the quality. Discovered in 1653, by a man named of Robert Hooke, coined the term Cells and was credited with it as well. The scientist said it reminded him of the cells of a monastery. These building blocks of life could be broken down into several different parts but the main two parts are prokaryote and eukaryote. Prokaryotes are one celled organisms such as bacteria. Prokaryotes are able to thrive in very harsh conditions including hydrothermal vents, hot springs, swamps, wetlands, and even the guts of humans and animals, called extremophiles. Along the line another special organelle the helps the cell regulates the waste products, which is known as the Lysosomes. Lysosomes contain special enzymes called hydrolytic enzymes that digests the worn out organelles, macromolecules, and breaks down viruses as well. The Lysosomes comes from the endoplasmic reticulum through transport vesicles and goes to the Golgi body and that there the Lysosomes then transfers off of the membrane bound organelle and then awaits the arrival of an intruder through phagocytosis. Phagocytosis is the process by which a cell often a phagocyte or a protist engulfs a solid particle to form an internal vesicle known as a phagosome. • 11. Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi, Harriet Tubman, And Oprah Leaders of Our Society Are human rights prominent enough to be defended? In the eyes of Gandhi, Harriet Tubman, and Oprah, they are. Gandhi was a man who wanted to end racial justice in all parts of the world, while Harriet Tubman wanted to help guide the slaves from the South to the North so that they can live a free life. However, instead of taking a more direct approach, Oprah Winfreyused a public method. These three passionate individuals stood up to enact change by fighting for human rights and staying persistent and determined. Mahatma Gandhi enacted change by striving to end racial injustice. He did this to show that anyone of any race or religion should have equal rights. According to Satyagraha: Gandhi s Legacy , it states, Gandhi developed his philosophy of Satyagraha, or resistance through non violent civil disobedience to defend his rights and the rights of all Indians and non whites (Studysync Editors). Gandhi himself had been faced with discrimination. However, instead of ignoring the situation, Gandhi took a stand and did what was right to ensure equality among all people. The Studysync Editors stay, As had been the case in the southern United States, Indians and other non white people were forced to ride at the back of trains, use separate facilities, and were treated as second class citizens. Gandhi believed that this was wrong . With his opinions in mind, Gandhi decided to get his beliefs out by starting non violent protest. As the leader he was, he lead many protests that included: unfair taxes and oppressive discrimination, as well as alleviating poverty, helping in the women s liberation movement, and ending caste discrimination. Studysync Editors wrote, Gandhi s work inspired large scale global change. Resistance to British involvement in South Africa and in India helped to inspire a movement of decolonization all over the world. Several political and spiritual leaders were inspired by Gandhi s work... . Gandhi s influence to the civilization was a huge turning point for those of the non white race. By his assiduous act and hope of impact, Gandhi didn t just catch the eye of the discriminated but also the attention of others. Mahatma Gandhi is remembered today as one of the most ... • 12. Oedipus the King The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle once identified the key ingredients of the tragedies that his culture is so famous for. These ingredients include a character with a fatal flaw, the realization of the fault for a particular problem and the final sudden reversal of fortune. For many tragedies, the fatal flaw is demonstrated as excessive pride, which usually serves as the driving force of the play s action. It is common, even beneficial, to have pride in oneself, but when it becomes expressed as arrogance or in defiance of one s fate, it is considered excessive and often leads men to engage in activities that will lead to their downfall. Aristotle (1998) stated the tragic hero falls into bad fortune because of some flaw in his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the process of trying to avoid fate, he has committed some of the greatest sins imaginable to him defiled his mother s bed, murdered his father and spawned monstrous children born of incest. Rather than face the truth and unable to take the severe wound to his pride, Oedipus stabbed out his eyes with broaches and walked away from Thebes forever, thereby sealing his doom through further prideful actions. The sudden reversal of fortune has Oedipus walking away from Thebes a blind, homeless beggar rather than the respected king he should have been based upon his more noble qualities. While this is a surprise, it is nevertheless a logical possible conclusion to the events that have taken place. This concept is brought out to greater extent in the film through the change in setting. Pasolini begins and ends the film in a contemporary setting to when the film was made. While the play suggests that Oedipus went wandering into the desert a self blinded beggar man, the film indicates that he has been wandering a tortured individual for much longer than a normal lifespan. Thus, the elements of classic tragedy are carried throughout both play and film to slightly different interpretations. In both, a fatal flaw within the character of Oedipus drives his actions that eventually seal his own doom. Seen as it is throughout the various elements of the classic tragedian format of first ... Elizabeth Bishop s Icy Robe The Bishop s Icy Robe Part of a handful of women poets in the Modernist Era, Elizabeth Bishop wrote around a hundred poems mostly containing dark themes which can be attributed to her greatly compromised childhood. She has check mated the world of poetry and has marked her name through her distinct style in poems such as A Death in Nova Scotia, Sestina, and In the Waiting Room. The poem, Death in Nova Scotia, discusses a young child coming to terms with her little cousins death and imagines what his afterlife will be like. The speaker also mentions that the house feels chilly (23) which can indicate that Bishop never felt completely comfortable in her grandparents house and not her parents home (which no longer existed). This poem parallels Bishops other poem Memories , and the reason for that; the grand father kept telling the young child to be polite and almost submissive to what he was saying because public appearance is important. So that thought transversely relates to this because the speaker never cries (though she wants to). And lets the kettle s

  • 15. Braveheart Patrick Henry Analysis Liberty is something that can motivate people to take drastic actions, even go into war. One piece that exemplifies this is Patrick Henry s Speech to the Virginia Council, in which, Patrick Henry claims that people should fight for their liberty. It can also be seen in the movie Braveheart, by Mel Gibson, during William Wallaces speech to his soldiers. Both men use their emotionally charged speeches to try to get their audiences to fight for their liberty. Both Patrick Henry and, the character, William Wallace use the idea of liberty to motivate their audiences. When Patrick Henry addressed the Virginia Convention, he used the ideals of liberty from an oppressor. Patrick Henry once pleaded, Give me liberty or give me death, (85). In this quote Henry cries for a government of his choosing, Henry is trying to exclaim for the audiencethat they should want to live how they desire and not how someone else desires them to live. As a closing to his argument this emotionally charged statement is how Henry tries to rally the crowd. Henry used emotion throughout his speech, in the beginning Henry exclaimed, ... I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery... (83). He is telling the Convention that the British are practically enslaving the colonists because they are forcing them around with soldiers. Henry also uses this to motivate people to fight for their beliefs. Because Henry uses emotion, motivation, and rebellion from oppression Henry focussed on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Football And Soccer s Roles In Soccer And Football A player carries the ball down the field, the crowd cheers with ebullience as the professional closes in for the score. The player has one man to beat and makes a daring move. The crowd gasps and the air escapes the stadium. With determination, the player scores and the crowd erupts with an explosion of cheers and hoots and hollers! Now, did the competitor score a goal or a touchdown? Without proper context, both choices could be correct. However, with proper context, the answer becomes rather clear. Even though the soccer and football contain eleven players from each team on the playing field, differences exist between each player s role and their positioning on the field of play. Eleven fГєtbol players exist on the pitch from each squad. With eleven players on the soccer pitch from each team and the constant movement, an individual player s role on the team might bewilder a spectator. When it comes to formation, the field divides into three parts: defenders, midfielders, and attackers. The defenders job can be simplified down to one task: do not let the opposition score. Also, some defenders may play a more aggressive role and act as a midfielder. Midfielders generally position themselves on the field between the defenders and forwards. Some midfielders play a disciplined defensive role by breaking up attacks as defensive midfielders. Holding midfielders blur the barriers, being more mobile and efficient in passing. The topic of Native Americans has interested me because there has been so much injustice committed against them, yet there have been little to no attempts to amend them. We agree that our displays should look their best, that everything should be organized so cleaning up is easier for us, and that the shopping experience should be easy and pleasant for customers. We compromise while working together so we can get the best out of each other as individuals and as a team. For example, the manager sometimes lets us listen to music, but he asks that individual employees keep to themselves and get everything done in a timely manner. • 36. Men, Women and Gender Boundaries in Sports Essay Men, Women and Gender Boundaries in Sports Today, we are seeing many changes in regard to gender and its place in the athletic world. More than ever, men and women are crossing gender boundaries and entering a non traditional sport for their sex. Of course this boundary crossing is significant culturally and socially as it challenges conventional view of male and female characteristics and roles. When altering a customary view of gender in a society, there are both costs and benefits to that society. This paper will discuss the costs and benefits to a traditionally male centered culture when women and men cross gender lines in sport, and provide examples of different sports in which gender lines are being erased. Allowing men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prejudice in any form cannot afford to exist in the international community if we all hope to live together in peace and progress. Women play an important role in this community, including the world of sports. Females need to be taken seriously in athletics if they are to be taken seriously at all. To say that a female cannot play sports is to imply that she is weaker than a male, and thus her worth and credibility are tarnished. Boxing, for example, is a traditional male sport that women were not encouraged to participate in until fairly recently. However, women such as Laila Ali and Jacqui Frazier demonstrate that women can not only be good boxers, but champion boxers. Also, bodybuilding is a traditional male sport in which women have been participating. Andrea Silva Izard and Laura Binetti are two currently well known body builders. Even another male sport into which women have made an entrance is racecar driving. Sarah Fisher and Allison Duncan are two well known drivers. Yet, allowing women into male sports only solves half the problem of gender equality. Men must be allowed to participate in sports traditionally seen as female orientated. Although I tried to research men who might be competing in female sports such as field hockey and synchronized swimming, I was only able to find information on the United States Men s ... Now if you are a DC fan and reading this you can go read about whatever you want this is my opinion not yours. I don t care for DC comics at all they only have a few good characters and even they can be unbearable sometimes. Marvel on the other hand is the exact opposite of this Marvel has almost only great characters and a few bad ones.My first reason Marvel is better is because they have Spider Man. Spider Man in my opinion is in the top five of Marvel s best characters. DC knows this too so they tried to copy him and make him a villain in there own comic books. Now I realize that sometimes Marvel s CGI could be lot better like in Captain America Civil War but it was nonetheless still a good movie. DC has only made like 5 live action CGI movies and 3 of those completely sucked. Wonder Woman was good and Suicide Squad was alright but the rest are just complete garbage. Now Marvel has over 15 movies and all of them are amazing Guardians Of The Galaxy blew my mind And I didn t even know who they were at the time.My third reason is Marvel actually knows what to do with their characters. Now don t get me wrong DC can do some good things with their characters. Like how they did Batman and the Flash but that s about it. Now Marvel on the other hand is working there characters like I work my Xbox One like magic.
