Essay About Character Flaws
We re all in our private traps, trapped in our own minds. Subsequently, we see ourselves as the
protagonist, all of our actions easily justifiable. We know ourselves best our strengths, our weaknesses
for the most part. We may joke we are never on time or we take too long to text back, all bad habits of
which we are aware, but these are much easier to recognize than our major character flaws. We
examine ourselves from one perspective: our own. We are familiar with the shock of seeing our faces
from a new angle in the mirror or hearing our voice on a recording, but few of us have examined our
character from the perspective of others. We should consider the opinions of those we value. Failure to
do so can result in a variety of repercussions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In middle school, my friend and I were not particularly cool but we didn t care. Well, I didn t care; he
did. Once in high school, I was not hurt when he ditched me for the cool kids because I knew that he
didn t actually like them; he just wanted to be like them. I advised him not to bother with these peers,
who did not treat him as an equal, because he had friends who actually cared about him. He
disregarded my concerns (Indignation) and we lost contact. Letting go of his ego over the years, he
considered my comments. Though he was stagnant for a while out of comfort and maybe necessity he
began to realize the people of which he surrounded himself did not make him happy (Contemplation).
My predictions were coming true: he was not valued by those he considered friends. Unlike those who
came before, this person was willing to take the next step. Rather than simply acknowledging an issue,
he also proactively sought a solution. He chose to brave the loneliness that comes with lacking a group
of friends (no matter how fake). He learned that quantity does not equate to quality. But unlike the rest
of us, he actually did something about his situation, choosing to spend time with real friends that value

The Divas Division In The Wwe
There is so much to be said about the Divas Division in the WWE that it feels like a broken record
trying to be fixed over and over again. At the last NXT special NXT Takeover: Unstoppable, one
match that stood out the whole night was the bout between Becky Lynch versus Sasha Banks for the
NXT Women s Championship. The submission attempts, the chain wrestling, and the high paced
energy, both women brought out the best of each other and put on an amazing women s match through
out the whole night. Both women deserve to be on the main roster when they get the call up, but it s
the only terror that they ll be nothing really important to the show and will fall in the back burner of
three hour programming. That s when the #GiveDivasAChance movement ... Show more content on

Give the Divas compelling and interesting storylines. The current storylines in the Divas Division are
simply not compelling or interesting. On NXT, all it took was a few video packages for Becky Lynch
to give her backstory and give fans a reasons to cheer for her, while on NXT was the tension between
Bayley and Emma. On the main roster, the Divas barely have decent storytelling surrounding the
Divas Championship, let alone given a low level storyline not surrounding the title. The reliance of
Total Divas for the past two years in my opinion probably hurt the division even more than it helped.
While it showcase the women on Total Divas and gave them some reasons to be on the show, it has
done nothing to help improve the division with weak storylines and meaninigless matches. There is no
effort being put into the stories of the Divas and they desperately need a new fresh direction in order

Stopping Plant Junipers, Some Pines, And Evergreens
Avoiding to plant junipers, some pines, and evergreens is a good idea because the chemical content in
these plants is extremely flammable. New Mexico Association of Counties implies, Deciduous trees
and shrubs are the best for firewise plants. Many needled trees contain a highly flammable chemical
content. Sedums are among the good groundcover plants due to the fact that they keep flames low to
the ground and from spreading because of the high water content. Planting things in shaded areas
around the yard is also helpful because dead plant material collects everywhere.

Barkley et al claim that from past vegetation, charcoal, layers in the soil, fire scars on trees, the aged
forests, and records of past explorers that wildfire has been naturally renewing forests for millions of
years.
In order to save lives and property from wildfire, people need to become educated on how to adapt to
living in areas with a high risk of wildfires. Being able to adapt to living the way many prefer means
taking responsibility for what is in order to defend the forest and natural lands.
Overwhelmingly, idahofirewise.org reports that most grass, brush, and forest fires are started by
people. Between 87 and 96 percent of wildfires are human ignited, and only about 20 percent are
intentional. Most human caused fires are accidental or related to careless disposals of hot embers, ash,
or cigarettes. This is a shocking statistic about how carelessness is a major contributing factor and can
be blamed for many of the fires that occur each year throughout the country. This is why knowledge of
firewise is so important because it can help to prevent many of these fires due to carelessness.
It is a strange thought that America s population is only going to expand, and more and more people
are building houses or cabins in the forest to escape the compacted communities of cities. So in turn,

Essay about Analysis of Theodore Dalrymple´s What We Have...
Theodore Dalrymple is an English writer and retired prison doctor and psychiatrist. Daniel in his
writings has frequently argued that the liberal and progressive views prevalent within Western
intellectual circles minimize the responsibility of individuals for their own actions and undermine
mores which are traditional, contributing to the formation within rich countries of an underclass which
is afflicted by violence, sexually transmitted diseases, criminality, welfare dependency and drug abuse.
His writings are generally based on his experience of working with criminals and the mentally ill.
Dalrymple has been at various occasions been accused of being a pessimist and a misanthrope, but his
persistent conservative philosophy has which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quiet heroism of those concerts and recitals were a potent symbol of the human achievement
emanated from the fact that Myra was a Jewish and played music from the same land as the enemy s
leader who represented barbarism. No one questioned those concerts and its relevance when the world
was ablaze but they understood the defiant gesture of humanity and culture in the face of
unprecedented brutality, and provide a subtle noble message. The story of Dalrymple s horrified
discovery, in Liberia s Centennial Hall where he describes about a never seen before rejection of
human refinement, wherein the piano not only represented the Liberia s culture but also an idea of
civilization, in itself an obvious coarseness of the gesture of contempt. The reaction of two young
British journalists, to whom there was nothing significant in the vandalizing of the piano only an
inanimate object. There was no compassion for the scores of thousands of people who had been killed
and many more had been displaced from their homes in the civil wars .He was appalled to see that the
two could see no connection between the impulse to destroy the piano and the impulse to kill and no
connection between respect for human life and for the finer productions of human labor, no
connection between the book burnings in Nazi Germany and all the subsequent barbarities of that
regime. This pair of seemingly trivial incidents reveals with an odd poignancy, or

Positive Messages On Business Communication
Positive Messages in Business Communication
Introduction
Business communication requires avenues through which leaders, management, and workers
communicate. It also requires the communication process between an organization and its partners, as
well as the customers. In business communication, it is vital for an organization to develop a
communication channel that is not only efficient and effective, but one that relays positive messages.
Positive messages are crucial in developing good relationships with the employees, business partners,
and customers. Research shows that we actually comprehend a positive statement 30 to 40 percent
faster than we do a negative statement, our mind literally has to unscramble negative messages to
determine the meaning (Simoneaux Stroud, 2014). There is a power in using positive messages, a
strategy in building relationships and producing positive results. When using positive messaging it is
beneficial to use the 5 S s, and goodwill messaging. The 5 S s are; selfless, specific, sincere,
spontaneous, and short. This paper looks into the effects of positive messaging, with an emphasis on
goodwill messages, and the 5 S s.
Goodwill Messages In business, companies normally experience internal and external pressures that
may keep them from making various goals. For instance, a company may fail to repay its loans on
time, or fail to pay its workers as required. It is also common for companies to make late deliveries of
products to the

A Study On Private Equity Investments
The last few decades have witnessed massive evolution of private equity (PE) investing from the small
niche it used to be to the significant industry it is today. Currently, PE plays an essential role in the
economy; it enhances innovation and growth in expanding firms or promising start ups, as well as by
nurturing the restructuring of companies that are already mature (e.g., Davila et al., 2003; Cressy et
al., 2007). Private equity investing has been acknowledged as a new and proficient form of
organisation that generates economic efficiencies through a superior governance framework. Due to
its ability to offer benefits in terms of diversification as well as return relative to traditional stock and
bond market investments, PE has become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on Talmor Vasvari (2012), in spite of the comparatively small number of vehicles, the
improvement is striking since some of the largest and most prominent private equity vehicles, such as
KRR and Blackstone, have preferred to go public. From an academic angle, the surfacing of listed
private equity vehicles drastically increases the opportunities for scrutinizing an industry that is
famous for being notoriously private.
Similar to PEs in developed markets, sub Saharan Africa experienced a build up of activity that
culminated to the financial crisis. Based on EMPEA (2011), a total of USD 6 billion dedicated for sub
Saharan African funds was raised between 2006 and 2008 by Private equity capital. In spite of the
drastic increases compared with previous years (only USD 159 billion was raised by sub Saharan
African funds between 2000 and 2005), the level of PE in the area is reticent in global terms. During
the same period Sub Saharan Africa accounted for less than four percent of the USD 159 billion raised
for all emerging markets between 2006 and 2008, and less than a fifty percent of the USD 1.4 trillion
raised worldwide by PE funds in the same period. Mergermarket (2012) insists that in the same
period, investment amounts across 47 markets in sub Saharan Africa totalled USD 8 billion, compared

Born In The Big Rains Book Report
Born in the Big Rains, written as an autobiography by Fadumo Korn, tells about a life after being cut.
Human Rights Watch, (2010) Although you may never have experienced female genital
mutilation/cutting, or possibly even heard of it, this terrible undertaking will affect more than three
million girls this year in Africa alone. Fadumo was one of those girls many years ago, screaming as
the blade sliced her lower region and as she grew up, she stepped in in her community to help stop this
procedure harming many young girls. Now, it s time for all of us to take action and move against
female genital mutilation. Female genital mutilation (FMG) is the practice of partially or totally
removing the external genitalia of girls and young women for nonmedical reasons. UNFPA, (2015)
The different ways of saying FGM may confuse some, but they all mean the same thing. Starting off
being called female circumcision didn t last long. People were often very confused because male and
female have very different health implications. One major different between the two is that male
circumcision is used for health benefits, whereas females suffer for no reason. It is rarely called
circumcision anymore for that reason. After being changed to female genital mutilation, many thought
it was implying people were performing the procedure maliciously. Whatever you decide to call it
shouldn t matter, because it needs to be stopped no matter what. ... Show more content on

The Boys Of Winter Character Analysis
A tale can be told in several different ways. Many people are aware of the astonishing feat of the 1980
USA Olympic Men s Hockey team, who were huge underdogs in their bid to win the gold medal
against the powerhouse USSR. The movie Miracle , directed by Gavin O Connor, is the dramatic
journey taken by this team, from the anxiety filled tryouts in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to the
exhilarating game against the USSR in Lake Placid, New York. The book, The Boys of Winter written
by Wayne Coffey, is based on the same events, but takes a less emotional, more factual approach to
the subject. The purpose of this essay is to compare these two resources, and to discuss how they
differ in tone, style, and theme.
In reviewing these two sources, what is most striking is that the voyage the 1980 USA Olympic Men s
hockey team takes is portrayed very differently in the movie than in the book. The tone and pacing of
the movie is much quicker. For example, the movie only covers about two years in time while the
book, in comparison, covers almost 50 years. The film follows the journey in chronological order and
slowly builds excitement and suspense. It begins with training camp and shows how the team is
chosen. From there, it unfolds to reveal key parts of the pre Olympic games. Finally, it ... Show more

much more balanced view. This allows the reader to gain context and understand the perspective of
both teams. Because of this informative style, the outcome of the game was not as important as

Middle Ages And Their Impact On Culture Essay
Influential Figures of the Middle Ages and Their Impact on Culture
The Middle Ages were a time of cultural development and lasting impacts that laid the groundwork
for the culture present in Western civilization today. Several influential figures contributed to the
cultural development in the Middle Ages. Hildegard of Bingen improved the status of women in her
day and through her, feminism continued to progress. Next, Thomas Aquinas created a philosophy that
left a lasting impression on the Catholic Church. Finally, Roger Bacon played a hand in several
scientific discoveries and created a system of natural knowledge that is still used today. All three left a
lasting mark on the Middle Ages in ways that have helped shape the culture of the Western world
today.
First, there was Hildegard of Bingen who played a crucial role in her day as an influential female in an
age where women were usually overlooked. Hildegard transcended the bans that restricted women s
social participation. As a visionary, she voiced her disapproval on simony and helped reform the
churches. Early feminists used Hildegard s success to argue for women s rights to attend medical
schools. In modern times, scholars used her in a new age movement for her holistic view of healing. ...

The Occupy Wall Street Movement and Ensuing Controversy Essay
On September 17, 2011 hundreds of people began to gather in Zuccotti Park, New York which is Wall
Street s financial district under the banner Occupy Wall Street : these three simple words are causing
an uproar in America (Engler). Additionally, these three words happen to be protesting the current
status of America s financial condition. With the economy in America being as terrible as it is, and the
unemployment rate skyrocketing, it is absolutely necessary for some sort of change to occur. The
Occupy Wall Street protesting is most positively a progressive step for the economic state in America
and it is a step in the right direction.
It goes without saying that the Occupy Wall Street protestors are angry but what are they angry about?

Occupy Wall Street symbolizes their frustrations through the various occupying demonstrations, signs,
and most notably, their slogan: We are the 99% representing the growing inequality of the wealthiest
1% of America s population and the rest of the country s citizens. The top 1% has more than doubled
their income over the last thirty years according to a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report. In
2007, the richest 1% owned 34.6% of the country s total wealth. After the Great Recession and
economic crisis the amount of the country s total wealth owned by the 1% grew from 34.6% to 37.1%.
Now that it is known what characteristics of America Occupy Wall Street wants to improve or simply
eliminate, how exactly does this group plan to carry out these goals? This is one of the primary
criticisms of the movement. Many people believe that Occupy Wall Street lacks logical and
understandable demands (Stoeffel). However, anyone who studies this group will know precisely what
this social movement wishes to be accomplished. As stated before, Occupy Wall Street wants more
and better jobs, a more equal distribution of wealth and a diminution of the influence that big
businesses have on American government. Nevertheless, how is still an issue, but is it the average
99% of citizens duty to know how to fix a system that more than one group is unhappy with? Another
element of Occupy Wall Street s criticism is that there is no particular person in this situation to
blame. This

Cowboy Myths
When you think of cowboys you think of a hero, someone who seeks adventure and thrill. But things
might not be always as it seems. A cowboy s life is not the joyous, adventurous existence shown in the
moving pictures (Bill Haywood). A true definition of a cowboy is a man, who herds and tends cattle,
specifically in the western US. We tend to focus on the mythical side of the story and ignore the
reality. In the 19th century, people thought to believe that the United States was destined to expand
from the east to the west. The term manifest destiny was used to express the belief of the English
settlers and their expedition to expand their society across North America. They believed that it was

This means that cable companies would be required to allow Internet service providers free access to
cable lines, like the model used for dial up Internet. They also intend to make sure that the cable
companies cannot screen, disrupt or filter Internet content without a court order. This in turn would
allow FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to enforce rules of net neutrality effectively.
Furthermore, Net neutrality advocates argue that allowing cable and telecommunication to act as
gatekeepers i.e. being able to control speed of loading of websites, as well as letting them to demand a
toll on quality of service would create an exploitative business model and would also slow down
innovation in online services. Further, they also argue that by charging certain sites, ISP s may be able
to block those who are unable to pay. Also, the advocates assert that every content on the Internet must
be treated same and must move at the same speeds. Presently, the order is meant to set a precedent that

An article from The Chicago Reporter discussed the implications of this issue. Low wage employers
put a burden on taxpayers, who pick up the cost of health care, food and housing assistance for their
workforce (Black, 2015). Not only is this driving down the consumer demand, but it is driving
families of the workers down below the poverty line and onto the streets, while the rich are getting
richer. It is not our responsibility to pay for the workers social benefits through our tax money. It is the
responsibility of the mega corporations who refuse to pay their workers a living wage to give these
rights to their workers. Legislation such as the Cook County Responsibility Business Act will work to
force these employers to give in through a raise in the amount they must pay their workers so that they
can afford the most essential social programs. But this is not enough. We need to raise the minimum
wage of all low income workers in America if we want to lessen the great disparity of wealth in this

United States And The Open Skies Agreements Essay
The United States has numerous Open Skies agreements with most countries around the globe. The
agreements allow foreign airlines to fly to the U.S. with few, if any, restrictions from the U.S.
government and U.S. carriers to fly to foreign countries, also with little or no government restrictions.
However, many of the U.S. carriers, such as Delta, American, and United, believe that the Open Skies
agreements have some major loopholes, allowing the few subsidized airlines, such as Emirates, Qatar
Airways, and Etihad, to fly to the United States, as well as numerous other countries across the globe,
at lower operating costs than their non subsidized competition have to pay for the same route. These
agreements also allow the practice of fifth freedom operations. Fifth freedom operations permit one
airline to fly from their home country to another participating country, drop off and pick up
passengers, fly to a second participating country and then fly the whole route in reverse. These routes
are known as fifth freedom routes. Since they oppose the idea of fifth freedom routes, Delta,
American, and United [the U.S. Three] all want the U.S. government to limit the number of flights
these Persian Gulf carriers can operate to the U.S. because they believe that they are losing revenue

you need to take an entrance exam and get at least 85% on it. The first week of May 2012 my mom
and I went to my elementary school to collect my transcripts that I needed to enroll for grade 7. At that
moment and for the last time I saw my grade 6 teachers. Upon getting my transcripts I can hear my
grade six teachers asking my mom if I will take the entrance exam.
Two weeks later after getting my transcripts, my mother and I went to the high school. The school was
crowded, it was very foreign to me, as I viewed it as I am a small shack in a city full of skyscrapers.
Before enrolling, we talked about trying to take the entrance exam for the program the high school
offers, I agreed. There is no harm in trying anyway, so I will try to give my best just to pass that exam.
Then the day of the entrance exam came. I expected that you can seat wherever you want during the
exam but to my dismay that wasn t the case. The spectators arrange us alphabetically, so being my last
name starts with an A, I was always the first one or if I am lucky the second one to be called. The
spectators were calling our last names one by one, boys were the first one to be called. After all the
boys were called, I got nervous as it is the girls turn to be called. I was called third, and I was placed
in the room where the boys are taking the exam. Along with the two girls that I don t know and who is
sitting in the far front.
During the duration of the exam, I can hear paper shuffling repeatedly. I looked at where the noise was
coming from and lucky enough it was the guy who is sitting beside me. I thought that I can just say a
few words and tell him to stop flipping his paper but I failed, as on the other hand, he thought I am
going to engage in a conversation with him. He began asking me what school I came from, why am I
so pale and that s even questionable because I m not pale, etc. At first, I ignored him hoping that he
will stop talking, he didn t.
Results came, I was very glad that I passed the exam at the same time nervous and I don t

Compare And Contrast The Devil Wears Prada Book And Movie
The job a million girls would die for: Novel vs. Movie
In 2006, David Frankel made a movie version of The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. The
book and the movie are both set in New York and tell the story of a girl named Andy. In both versions
Andy starts working for Miranda Priestly, editor in chief of Runway, a fashion magazine. Generally
the film version of The Devil Wears Prada, what kind of experiences Andy passes through is similar to
what Andy experiences in Weisberger s novel. However, the movie is different form the book because
some characters have a different appeal and image, Andy s love life might end up positive, and it ends
in a different way.
One difference is the appeal and image of the characters. For example, in the book Andy has blond
hair and lives with her boyfriend named Alex Fineman. Later in the story, Alex breaks up with Andy.
In contrast, Andy has brown hair in the movie. Also the boyfriend s name is Nate Cooper, instead of
Alex Fineman. Another difference in characters is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

apartment, where they can hardly manage. Throughout the storyline, Andy and her boyfriend each
have their own lives at work. But they share a few friends when they have time off. They see each
other every week for dinner. Also yellow cabs, nice looking people from New York are well
represented in both versions.
Another similarity, the main storyline, is that Andy gets to work for Runway in which Miranda
Priestly is editor in chief. Andy got accepted due to an interview which was different form all other
girls. Miranda gives it a shot. In both versions Miranda was in the beginning very dissatisfied about
Andy. There is also a similarity in Miranda s way of communication. She refuses to share elevators
with others and dismisses everyone with a cold That s

SCALE Comp Mr Fagan Analysis
Destyne Marrero 52015 SCALE Comp Mrs. Fagan By its dictionary definition alienation is the state
or experience of being isolated from a group or an activity to which one should belong or in which one

another human being. In literature since alienation is a powerful force, many characters may feel the

Paul was sent to the principal s office; after he has been suspended from his high school in Pittsburgh
on different accounts of misdemeanors. Paul was wearing a red carnation in his buttonhole, and that
particularly offends the faculty members who think the flower sums up his flippant attitude. His
teachers have a difficult time articulating their true feelings about Paul, deep down, they believe that
Paul does not want to be in school. They lash out at Paul, but he shows no emotion and smirks
throughout the barrage of criticism, which only proves their theory. The teachers depart shortly after;
they feel embarrassed about their viciousness toward Paul. His teachers left the building dissatisfied
and unhappy; humiliated to have felt so vindictive toward a mere boy... (Cather). In the end, it is the
principal who speaks with Paul s father where he is informed that Paul is forbidden to return to school.
The discontinuation of Paul s high school career may have made him feel less alienated since his peers

Qualitative Interview Essay
Ahead of our call, here is an outline of our initial thinking on themes and issues to explore in the
qualitative interviews. This is based on our thinking to date about the aims the project and our reading
of your existing research.
It would be useful to get your take on the ideas, and then we can turn these into a discussion guide for
the interviews.
Overall thoughts
It is worth flagging a few overall points and observations:
 This research needs to balance your larger, company wide goal overcoming negativity toward for
profit companies working in the education field with dynamics present in your local, target areas.
 Pearson s existing research covers many motifs and values, from the importance of digital learning
to how Pearson s scale can be leveraged to strengthen its brand. In this research, we should attempt to
tease out which of these concepts work or has been changed given recent political events, like Brexit.
 We are conscious of how recent events, like the Every Student Achieves acts or presidential
campaign, might impact perceptions in the current education field for the foreseeable future. We will
need to understand these current perceptions, as well as future and past views about the role of for
profits in education.
 We need to ensure a number of questions can replicated across our different research instruments
and targets, to quantify them and allow for more holistic analysis.

Sal Paradise
In the novel On the Road by Jack Kerouac, Sal Paradise is introduced as a man who is seeking a way
to escape responsibilities he has in his life. Sal finds his way out in a man named Dean Moriarty, an
independent man who lives a carefree life on the road without any responsibilities as he travels to new
places in search of new kicks (Kerouac). Sal begins to idolize Dean s way of life and quickly adopts it
as his own and sets out on the road. Sal follows Dean looking to him for guidance, and much like a
child adopts the views and personality of their parents until they grow old enough to forge their own
opinions, Sal adopts Dean s views and personality as his own. In the beginning, Sal is unable to see
how irresponsible Dean is with his life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of his shortsighted tendencies, Dean only focuses on himself and his goals of finding new
experiences, and he does not let anyone or anything keep him from perusing his goals no matter the
consequences. This is best seen by the many times Dean gets married and fathers children only to
abandon them to go back on the road. Sal mentions this stating, Every new girl, every new wife, every
new child was an addition to his bleak impoverishment. (Kerouac 132). In Jack Kerouac s On the
Road : A Re Evaluation by Carole Gottlieb Vopat, Vopat compares a common theme about the
characters in On the Road that explains the reasons for Dean s single minded actions. Kerouac s
characters take to the road not to find life but to leave it all behind: emotion, maturity, change,
decision, purpose, and, especially, in the best American tradition, responsibility; wives, children,
mistresses, all end up strewn along the highway like broken glass. (Vopat). Because Dean does not
want to take on any responsibilities and does not want close and emotional relationships, he chooses to
take to the road and run from them. Over time Sal experiences more of Dean s actions as well as the
effects of his actions which leads to a change in Sal which will lead to his eventual and complete
separation from

The Most Dangerous Game, Liberty, And Harrison Bergeron
In the stories, The Most Dangerous Game , Liberty , and Harrison Bergeron all compare among their
similarities. Each story uses the setting and their conflicts to show the theme and the characteristics of
each character. In these stories, they all have different conflicts and settings, but they use the conflicts
and settings to relate to each other in their characters and the themes. There are similarities among the
stories The Most Dangerous Game , Liberty , and Harrison Bergeron in the themes for each story. For
example, in Harrison Bergeron the theme is to stand up for what you know and what you believe is
right. Harrison in the story escaped from prison, tore his handicaps off, doing the rest for those who
were also handicapped. Harrison knew the risks of doing these tasks, but he did it to show people what
life was supposed to be like, and make an example of it. Even as I stand here crippled, hobbled,
sickened, I am still greater than any man who ever lived. The themes of Liberty and The Most
Dangerous Game are very similar, both stories themes are to never give up, fight for what you want,
no matter how hard the battle or big the obstacle may be. In the story liberty the narrator s family
struggles with the harsh government and struggles to get their visas to escape without anyone

The Importance Of Parent And Child Relationships
Amongst many of the important relationships formed between people throughout life, a parent and a
child s relationship is the most important. Parent and children relationships are formed from either one
s biological parent or their adopted parents. The relationship between these two types of formation are
always formed. It s obvious this relationship will be life lasting, since a person s parents will always
be involved in their life. The factors that play out when these relationships first start to form are, the
social, physical, and cognitive development. The term parent child relationship refers to the unique
and enduring bond between a caregiver and his or her child. To understand the parent child
relationship, we must look at the ways that parents and children interact with one another physically,
emotionally, and socially. (Dance Schissel 2017)
Over time theories have arisen that parents are teachers to their children. In other words, what a child
learns comes from their parents first, and then other influences throughout their life. Lev Vygotsky
viewed parents as masters and the child as an apprentice in learning. (Dance Schissel 2017). Diana
Baumrind researched that parenting styles come from three different types. Authoritarian, are parents
that are very strict, unbending and inflexible. These types of parents tend to control every aspect of
their children s life. The second parenting style she came up with was, authoritative parents are firm,
loving and kind.

The Scarlet Letter And Arthur Miller s The Crucible
Carter Beaulieu
Mr. Damaso
AP English III, Period 5
21 October 2014
Puritanical Deception (1000) Emigrating from the Old World to purify the Church of England, the
Puritan society was one of very strict religious beliefs. Believing in living plainly, the Puritans
denounced those who went against their ways. They even excoriated fellow members of their
community if a sin was bound to ones name. One sin in particular, adultery, was seen as a
contravention to the covenant that the Puritans had established with God. Church leaders believed that
unless the sinners were chastised, God would punish the whole community for a sin of such a
magnitude. Despite having a sought out system of punishment for sinners, the tougher task for these
leaders was to figure out who in fact was a sinner, as some did not confess. Those who did not confess
or who had not been caught would behave hypocritically in order to preserve their reputation and
avoid punishment. In both Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter and Arthur Miller s The Crucible,
the repercussions of committing adultery are exhibited through characters in two different puritanical
societies. Arthur Dimmesdale, Hester Prynne, John Proctor, and Abigail Williams are all victims to
this. Despite living in sincere societies, these characters behave hypocritically in order to hide a
concealed truth, resulting in internal ignominy, until they ultimately confess.
Arthur Dimmesdale shows his guilt and

Nursing Shortage in the United States
It is no secret that the United States is currently experiencing a shortage of nurses . The U.S.
Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics ( 2009 ) estimated that more than one million new
and replacement nurses will be needed by 2018 to meet the increased demands of the health care
workforce (). The stressful conditions under which nurses work, due in part to the nursing shortage,
are among the risk factors that contribute to nurses abuse of illicit drugs and alcohol. Nurses are
unique in that they work in an environment where they not only have access to controlled substances,
but also are exposed to critically ill patients, traumatic situations, death and dying, the stress of which
can increase the risk of substance abuse. (Epstein, Burns, Conlon, 2010). Unfortunately, it is the
patient that suffers the most. Substance abuse continues to be a serious health care concern with
millions of American 18 and older using illegal drugs. Substance abuse occurs across all generations,
cultures, and occupations, including nursing. About 1 in 10, or 10 15% of all nurses, may be impaired
or in recovery from alcohol or drug addiction (Thomas Siela, 2011). When a nurse is impaired they
will not be able to function at their normal capacity, and are not able to provide quality patient care.
They may not be able to think as quickly, and have a delayed reaction time.

The battle of the bulge
The battle of the bulge was Hitler s last chance to win the war or at least make the allies go for a

German hero Frederick the great was facing defeat, Frederick went on a offensive attack at his foe
who had superior numbers but the bold moved worked and Hitler thought he could do the same thing.
The Battle of the bulge took place on December sixteenth 1944. More than a million men participated

The crucial problem for the German was their lack of fuel and the whole adventure depended on their

Use Of Hypnosis Used For A Very Long Time

Performative Documentary
A performative role is that which emphasizes a hidden aspect of performance in a film either as a
subject or the filmmaker. According to Bruzzi (2000), performative documentary is a speech act; it
both describes and performs an action. A documentary only comes into being as it is performed, and
only becomes meaningful as a negotiation between performance and reality. Their role is to make the
audience feel a better sense of reality in the film and how it is being dramatized. The more a
documentary draws attention to its self, the further it gets from what it represents (Nichols, 1994: 97).

The Sapir Whorf Hypothesis And Arguments For And Against It
For all humans, language is the most common means of communication with others and it enables us
to share our experiences and stories and to tell about our needs and feelings. For example, Yamamoto
states that sociolinguistics see, it is primarily through the use of language that people communicate
with each other (1979: 146). We all speak one or more languages and as the main way of
communication it is an important and vital part of our lives. There is many languages in the world and
they differ from one another in many ways. But does the language we speak reflect to the way we see
and experience the world around us? This paper will explore the question through the Sapir Whorf
hypothesis and arguments for and against it.
The Sapir Whorf hypothesis mentioned above is based on the ideas of Edward Sapir and Benjamin
Whorf who studied aboriginal languages among Native American tribes, mostly the Hopi. They
believed that the language one speaks is directly related to the way they understand the reality and see
the world. For example, Whorf once wrote we dissect nature along lines laid down by our native
languages (Whorf cited in Salzmann 1993: 153) which led to Zdenek Salzmann s conclusion of Whorf
s ideas: Difference among languages must therefore be reflected in the differences in the worldviews
of their speakers (1993: 156). This hypothesis has been challenged many times by several
anthropologists and linguists and there are arguments and evidence for and against it.

Benefits Of Telecommuting From A Human Resource Essay
Telecommuting is an increasingly popular organizational dynamic that presents unique challenges for
workers, managers, and human resources departments regarding how employees relate to their
organizations, as well as what telecommuters need from their managers to be satisfied, committed
employees. Much is known about how employees in private companies relate to their organizations in
a standard work setting. However, little is understood about how teleworkers in government
organizations relate to their organizations, and how managerial leadership behaviors influence the
organizationally related outcomes of telecommuters (Dahlstrom, 2013, p. 438). The aforementioned

Accuracy of results
There is always some degree of inaccuracy in any experiment. I think that there were several factors in
my experiment that made the results slightly inaccurate. These were;
#61623; The time taken to place the bung on the flask – This let out a small amount of carbon dioxide
into the atmosphere instead of the gas syringe.
#61623; Weighing and measuring inaccuracy s – The weighing of the marble chips will always be
slightly inaccurate due to the scales inaccuracy. This is the same with the measuring of acid.
#61623; The size of the marble chips – The size of the marble chips was not always the same, some
were larger or smaller than others. This would have made for a slight inaccuracy.
Reliability
No significant problems or difficulties were encountered when carrying out this experiment. The
accuracy and reliability of the results and conclusions are very good. Even though I have outlined the
inaccuracy s of the experiment, these are only t be expected and do not have much impact on the
overall conclusion.
Improvements
The procedure used was simple and straightforward and not many difficulties were encountered. One
difficulty was that the gas syringe was subject to humidity which made the syringe move not as

Essay On Helen Keller
Helen Keller House and Museum at Ivy Green When I heard about this assignment I didn t really
know what I wanted to do. I heard about a special lady who was born in Tuscumbia Alabama. The
special lady I was referring too was Helen Keller, I didn t really know much about her except for the
fact that she was blind and deaf. I have also heard about the play and the movie Miracle Worker that
was based off of her life. Little did I know I was in for a treat, learning about this magnificent woman
s life and the influence she had on the deaf community. Helen Keller s early life started in Tuscumbia
Alabama where she was born and raised. Helen home was located on 600 acres of land which was
massive compared to what we have now. Her home was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time period when children contracted this disease most children died, but fortunately
Helen survived. She did not come out of this unharmed she became blind and deaf. As a result Helen
became a lot more of a problem child. Instead of sitting and eating with the rest of the family she
would walk around the table and take food off of each of their plates. Also if Helen didn t receive what
she wanted she would throw temper tantrums until she got her way. Once during one of her outburst
she began to beat her hands so hard on the hardwood floor that her hands began to bleed. Helen later
said during her time as a child she felt as if she was trapped in her own mind. Her parents had to do
something, so they hired a teacher whose name was Anne Sullivan who was educated and graduated
from the Perkins Institute at the age of twenty. This would be Anne s first job helping to educate
Helen. Mr. Keller offered her thirty five dollars a month to move from Boston to their home in
Alabama to with Helen. For the first few weeks Anne just observed Helen during her everyday
activities, but one day Helen decided to take a piece of sausage from Anne s plate just as times before,
but Anne slapped her hand and putting her hand to her face and moving it from side to side saying No
! This was a new concept to Helen because no one had ever told her no before. Because of this Helen

My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
In the poem My Papa s Waltz , the author Theodore Roethke uses imagery, metaphors and imagery to
effectively convey the poems message of unquestionable love and his emotions towards his father.
This poem can convey two different meanings or point of view to the readers. On the other hand, the
author uses some word choices to make you use some critical thinking to get the correct message of
the poem. Two main themes or ideas of this poem is the love to his father but also, the fearfulness that
he has to him. This poem it is seen to be interesting because of the ambiguity that comes to it. There
will be different and opposite reads as to the meaning of this poem. These interpretations are going to
be built by the different literary devices

Life After Being Diagnosed With Brain Cancer Essay
In 2014, the American public was captivated by the story of a young woman who decided to end her
life after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Brittany Maynard, a 29 year old woman who had just
been married, had been having splitting headaches. She went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a
tumor. Her life became a blur of hospital visits, treatment plans, and research into what she could do.
Her doctors came to the conclusion that there was no treatment that could save Maynard s life.
According to an opinion piece that Maynard wrote for CNN, she quickly decided that death with
dignity was the best option for [her] and [her] family (Maynard). Since she lived in Oregon, the idea
of dying on an individual s terms was acceptable and legal, because of the Oregon Death with Dignity
Act. Maynard died on Saturday, November 1, 2014. Physician assisted suicide is defined as a
physician intentionally helping a person to terminate his or her life by providing drugs for self
administration, at that person s voluntary and competent request (Radbruch et al. 109). There is a large
controversy over whether or not a patient should be allowed to request and perform physician assisted
suicide; doctors and patients alike have mixed feelings on the issue. The first democratic nation to
recognize the legality of physician assisted suicide was Australia. They enacted a law that described
certain conditions where the act was legal in the Rights of the Terminally Ill Amendment Act in 1996.

Christian Teachings on Warfare Essay
Christian Teachings on Warfare For a war to be right in Christian teachings or for a war not to be
wrong in Christian teachings it must follow the just war theory. This would be the first and main
subject I would include in the booklet. The just war theory states that for a war to be called a just war
it must · Be declared by a proper authority. · There must be a just cause for the war · The war
must be of good intention (i.e. to do good or to over come an overpowering evil) · The war must be
a last resort (i.e. every non violent way of solving the war must have been tried first) · The good the
war will do must outweigh the harm · The war must be possible to ... Show more content on

There are many references in the bible that have a certain, war related meaning, or at least you can
relate them to war. The reference thou shalt not kill (exodus 20) says that obviously you should not
kill . There is rarely a war where anyone is not killed, so again you could say that wars in which
people are killed are wrong. According to this, it would be near impossible for nuclear war to be right,
as you would find it near impossible to use nuclear weapons without killing anyone! It is known that
the blast from the Hiroshima bomb spread radiation for 36miles around, and today, the power of one
bomb has increased 750,000 fold from that of the Hiroshima bomb. The results from the use of such a
lethal weapon are horrifying. The loss of life would be unimaginable. Thou shalt not kill , well… my
point is obvious. Do unto others as you would want done to you . Another bible reference (from the
book of Matthew in the New Testament) maybe not directly referring to war but it can be related to a
war situation. Do not do anything that you would not want doing to yourself, take for example killing.
Would you want to be killed… the chances are that you don t, so don t kill if you don t want to be
killed. This could be slightly turned around, as in a war situation you may kill people, but those people
you may kill would most likely have killed

Partial And Late Term Abortion
Partial and Late Term Abortion
At the present time, abortion has become a hot topic that has sparked many heated debates in the
recent presidential election, with both parties feeling strongly about the subject. Partial birth abortion
can be defined as the removal of a fetus that has already died and a late term abortion is an abortion
that occurs during a late stage of the pregnancy. I chose this topic in order to not only learn more and
become better informed about this issue that has sparked such a widespread controversy, but also for
the purpose of taking a closer look at the opposing sides to gain a better understanding of their views.
Although I personally disagree with any kind of abortion, I would like to take a closer look at ... Show

However, the column s main idea was not my reason for selecting the article. I chose the article for its
extensive, albeit slightly out of date, data and its knowledge presented that is written by educated,
albeit biased, authors. Bonnie Jones and Tracy Weitz both have degrees that make them highly
educated on the subject matter, however, a quick search of their names finds them to be highly
partisan to the pro choice movement. Although this makes them no less educated on the topic of
abortion, it allows the reader to see clear partiality in the article. For the reader like myself who would
like to question other channels of thinking, this article presents a clear cut view of the concepts
provided by the believers in the pro choice movement along with detailed explanations of the subject
matter. John Leo runs the site Mindingthecampus.com, is a writer and contributing editor for The City
Journal and has written multiple facetious articles such as his essay published in 2001 entitled
Incorrect Thoughts. His article, The First Crack In The Wall, presents a plethora of instances of partial
birth abortion activists going back on their word and an accurate drawing of an abortion procedure
being attacked by activists. The column also presents factual information as well, such as the effects of
a partial birth abortion. The author concludes his

Rhetorical Analysis of Hillary Clinton s Speech, Women’s...
On September 5, 1995, Hillary Clinton delivered an influential speech at The Fourth World
Conference on Women in Beijing. Clinton expresses general concern over escalating violence toward
women, in other word s gendercide. Gendercide refers to the systematic elimination of a specific
gender group, normally female. It s most common in India, China, and other regions in Southeast Asia
(GirlsKind Foundation). Crimes, such as bride trafficking, infanticide, abandonment, and dowry
related murder; often take place within private households, going unnoticed and not even
acknowledged. Tragically, women are most often the ones whose human rights are violated. Even
now, in the late 20th century, the rape of women continues to be used as an ... Show more content on

Hillary relates to them by listing responsibilities that women uphold. I have met women in South
Africa who helped lead the struggle to end apartheid and are now helping to build a new democracy. I
have met women in India and Bangladesh who are taking out small loans to buy milk cows, or
rickshaws, or thread to create a livelihood for them themselves and their families (Clinton 2). Using
repetition, she starts the accounts with I have met women in....... to show credibility, she has met
women in different positions. By doing so Clinton, allows the audience immediately to know what
women are capable of doing, despite unfair treatment.
Pathos is important in this speech when you are trying to change others views on women s rights.
Hillary uses emotional appeals to the audience when she describes them as wives, mothers, sisters,
and daughters; referring them to women in our own lives; evoking the listener to imagine if their loved
one were in the same position. Clinton talks about the appalling desecrations such as gendercide.
Clinton states the demands of women that remain silent. By using repetitive language, she starts all the
statements with It is a violation of human rights when.... .All eight statements are relevant examples of
different scenarios that happen to women around the world. It is a violation of human rights

Home Vs. Concrete Wall Home
In truth, a concrete wall house is substantially warmer than stick built construction. Advanced
technology ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) homes are actually much warmer than traditional stud wall
construction, as well as being far more energy efficient. Here are the facts. Thermographic tests done
by the National Association of Home Builders Research Center showed that a solid ICF wall (a wall
without windows or other penetrations) has fewer cold spots than a wood framed wall. This is because
the thermal envelope the shield between outside and inside temperatures is much more difficult to seal
in conventional stud wall construction, so that cold easily travels through thermal bridging to create
uncomfortable cold spots inside the house. ICF walls, by contrast, are tightly sealed so that thermal
bridging is reduced, which makes for even temperatures and fewer cold spots and drafts. Moreover,
houses with ICF wall construction result in a 50% decrease in the capacity of HVAC equipment as
compared to wood framed wall construction (which of course implies greatly reduced heating and
cooling costs).
How does ICF construction accomplish this? Concrete form insulation is constructed of blocks of
parallel slabs of expanded polystyrene foam. These blocks are stacked up and snap together like
children s Lego toys. Steel rebar is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ICF construction is also four times more fire resistant than stick construction (ICF walls easily sustain
four hours of extreme fire temperatures, whereas wood frame walls don t exceed a one hour rating).
Moreover, ICF walls have much higher sound absorption than stick framed walls, which makes these
homes much quieter and more peaceful to live

The Methods For Sentiment Analysis
III. APPROACHES OF SENTIMENT
ANALYSIS.
Sentiment analysis consists of various elements out of which lexicons are an integral part. These
lexicons are nothing but the words which make up a sentence. These lexicons can also be known as
sentiment lexicon or opinion lexicons. It is important that we classify the lexicons we have into
positives or negatives in order to achieve review analysis. One of the methods for sentiment analysis
and classification is done on the basis of these lexicons. There are two broad approaches for sentiment
analysis. These are lexicon based approaches and machine learning based approaches.
These approaches are further divided into different methods as shown in the figure given below.
Fig. 2 Sentiment analysis flow
Let us consider each approach in more detail.
A) Machine Learning Approaches
Machine learning methods include the concepts from soft computing field. These methods are
classified as supervised and unsupervised methods. The supervised methods can either be probabilistic
classifiers else it can be linear classifiers. Probabilistic classifiers include algorithms which use
probability to find the classification and then separate the lexicons based on probabilistic calculations.
In this approach we use data driven methods, which include the following algorithms.
a. Naïve Baye s Classifier: This algorithm includes the use of Baye s theorem for determining the

Phrasing Trauma In Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl
Phrasing Trauma: Ozick s The Shawl Few topics still carry a stronger resonance than that of the
experiences of those who were sent to concentration camps during the Holocaust. Cynthia Ozick tells
a deeply moving story about one woman s experience being sent to and surviving in a camp in The
Shawl . It is an intimate look at a mother s love for her daughters in the face of evil both from outside
and within their family. The diction of The Shawl is heavily influenced by the mental state of its main
character. The story s perspective, although third person, is focused on Rosa and told in a way that is
representative of her trauma. In this way, Ozick s specific dictional choices enhance the reader s
emotional connection with Rosa. By using convoluted and indirect diction ... Show more content on

As is often the case in trauma fiction, The Shawl is an attempt to convey to the reader an emotional
scaring story. Ozick accomplishes this in part by choosing obscurified diction that makes it difficult
for the reader to process that events that are unfolding. And the moment Magda s feathered round head
and her pencil legs and balloonish belly and zigzag arms splashed against the fence, the steel voices
went mad in their growling, urging Rosa to run and run to the spot where Magda had fallen from her
flight against the electrical fence; (Ozick 248). Steel voices, zigzag arms, splashed : none of these
phrases seem to describe Magda or what happened to her in any meaningful way. It is the nonsensical
nature of Ozick s diction, however, that make the reader uneasy. By choosing diction that doesn t
make sense for describing a human, Ozick shows the reader not quite

  • 2. Essay About Character Flaws We re all in our private traps, trapped in our own minds. Subsequently, we see ourselves as the protagonist, all of our actions easily justifiable. We know ourselves best our strengths, our weaknesses for the most part. We may joke we are never on time or we take too long to text back, all bad habits of which we are aware, but these are much easier to recognize than our major character flaws. We examine ourselves from one perspective: our own. We are familiar with the shock of seeing our faces from a new angle in the mirror or hearing our voice on a recording, but few of us have examined our character from the perspective of others. We should consider the opinions of those we value. Failure to do so can result in a variety of repercussions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I advised him not to bother with these peers, who did not treat him as an equal, because he had friends who actually cared about him. He disregarded my concerns (Indignation) and we lost contact. Letting go of his ego over the years, he considered my comments. Though he was stagnant for a while out of comfort and maybe necessity he began to realize the people of which he surrounded himself did not make him happy (Contemplation). My predictions were coming true: he was not valued by those he considered friends. Unlike those who came before, this person was willing to take the next step. Rather than simply acknowledging an issue, he also proactively sought a solution. He chose to brave the loneliness that comes with lacking a group of friends (no matter how fake). At the last NXT special NXT Takeover: Unstoppable, one match that stood out the whole night was the bout between Becky Lynch versus Sasha Banks for the NXT Women s Championship. The submission attempts, the chain wrestling, and the high paced energy, both women brought out the best of each other and put on an amazing women s match through out the whole night. On the main roster, the Divas barely have decent storytelling surrounding the Divas Championship, let alone given a low level storyline not surrounding the title. The reliance of Total Divas for the past two years in my opinion probably hurt the division even more than it helped. While it showcase the women on Total Divas and gave them some reasons to be on the show, it has done nothing to help improve the division with weak storylines and meaninigless matches. Positive Messages On Business Communication Positive Messages in Business Communication Introduction Business communication requires avenues through which leaders, management, and workers communicate. It also requires the communication process between an organization and its partners, as well as the customers. Positive messages are crucial in developing good relationships with the employees, business partners, and customers. Research shows that we actually comprehend a positive statement 30 to 40 percent faster than we do a negative statement, our mind literally has to unscramble negative messages to determine the meaning (Simoneaux Stroud, 2014). Human Rights Watch, (2010) Although you may never have experienced female genital mutilation/cutting, or possibly even heard of it, this terrible undertaking will affect more than three million girls this year in Africa alone. Fadumo was one of those girls many years ago, screaming as the blade sliced her lower region and as she grew up, she stepped in in her community to help stop this procedure harming many young girls. Now, it s time for all of us to take action and move against female genital mutilation. Female genital mutilation (FMG) is the practice of partially or totally removing the external genitalia of girls and young women for nonmedical reasons. UNFPA, (2015) The different ways of saying FGM may confuse some, but they all mean the same thing. Starting off being called female circumcision didn t last long. People were often very confused because male and female have very different health implications. One major different between the two is that male circumcision is used for health benefits, whereas females suffer for no reason. It is rarely called circumcision anymore for that reason. Many people are aware of the astonishing feat of the 1980 USA Olympic Men s Hockey team, who were huge underdogs in their bid to win the gold medal against the powerhouse USSR. The movie Miracle , directed by Gavin O Connor, is the dramatic journey taken by this team, from the anxiety filled tryouts in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to the exhilarating game against the USSR in Lake Placid, New York. The book, The Boys of Winter written by Wayne Coffey, is based on the same events, but takes a less emotional, more factual approach to the subject. The purpose of this essay is to compare these two resources, and to discuss how they differ in tone, style, and theme. In reviewing these two sources, what is most striking is that the voyage the 1980 USA Olympic Men s hockey team takes is portrayed very differently in the movie than in the book. The tone and pacing of the movie is much quicker. For example, the movie only covers about two years in time while the book, in comparison, covers almost 50 years. The film follows the journey in chronological order and slowly builds excitement and suspense. It begins with training camp and shows how the team is chosen. Middle Ages And Their Impact On Culture Essay Influential Figures of the Middle Ages and Their Impact on Culture The Middle Ages were a time of cultural development and lasting impacts that laid the groundwork for the culture present in Western civilization today. Several influential figures contributed to the cultural development in the Middle Ages. Hildegard of Bingen improved the status of women in her day and through her, feminism continued to progress. Next, Thomas Aquinas created a philosophy that left a lasting impression on the Catholic Church. Finally, Roger Bacon played a hand in several scientific discoveries and created a system of natural knowledge that is still used today. All three left a lasting mark on the Middle Ages in ways that have helped shape the culture of the Western world today. First, there was Hildegard of Bingen who played a crucial role in her day as an influential female in an age where women were usually overlooked. Hildegard transcended the bans that restricted women s social participation. As a visionary, she voiced her disapproval on simony and helped reform the churches. My Experience In High School Before graduating elementary and jumping into middle school my homeroom adviser always advises us to try and enter the school program in this particular high school. The thing is to enter the program you need to take an entrance exam and get at least 85% on it. The first week of May 2012 my mom and I went to my elementary school to collect my transcripts that I needed to enroll for grade 7. At that moment and for the last time I saw my grade 6 teachers. Upon getting my transcripts I can hear my grade six teachers asking my mom if I will take the entrance exam. Two weeks later after getting my transcripts, my mother and I went to the high school. The school was crowded, it was very foreign to me, as I viewed it as I am a small shack in a city full of skyscrapers. Before enrolling, we talked about trying to take the entrance exam for the program the high school offers, I agreed. There is no harm in trying anyway, so I will try to give my best just to pass that exam. Then the day of the entrance exam came. I expected that you can seat wherever you want during the exam but to my dismay that wasn t the case. The spectators arrange us alphabetically, so being my last name starts with an A, I was always the first one or if I am lucky the second one to be called. Sal finds his way out in a man named Dean Moriarty, an independent man who lives a carefree life on the road without any responsibilities as he travels to new places in search of new kicks (Kerouac). Sal begins to idolize Dean s way of life and quickly adopts it as his own and sets out on the road. Sal mentions this stating, Every new girl, every new wife, every new child was an addition to his bleak impoverishment. (Kerouac 132). Kerouac s characters take to the road not to find life but to leave it all behind: emotion, maturity, change, decision, purpose, and, especially, in the best American tradition, responsibility; wives, children, mistresses, all end up strewn along the highway like broken glass. Parent and children relationships are formed from either one s biological parent or their adopted parents. The relationship between these two types of formation are always formed. It s obvious this relationship will be life lasting, since a person s parents will always be involved in their life. The factors that play out when these relationships first start to form are, the social, physical, and cognitive development. The term parent child relationship refers to the unique and enduring bond between a caregiver and his or her child. To understand the parent child relationship, we must look at the ways that parents and children interact with one another physically, emotionally, and socially. (Dance Schissel 2017) Over time theories have arisen that parents are teachers to their children. In other words, what a child learns comes from their parents first, and then other influences throughout their life. Lev Vygotsky viewed parents as masters and the child as an apprentice in learning. (Dance Schissel 2017). Diana Baumrind researched that parenting styles come from three different types. Authoritarian, are parents that are very strict, unbending and inflexible. • 28. The Scarlet Letter And Arthur Miller s The Crucible Carter Beaulieu Mr. Damaso AP English III, Period 5 21 October 2014 Puritanical Deception (1000) Emigrating from the Old World to purify the Church of England, the Puritan society was one of very strict religious beliefs. Believing in living plainly, the Puritans denounced those who went against their ways. They even excoriated fellow members of their community if a sin was bound to ones name. One sin in particular, adultery, was seen as a contravention to the covenant that the Puritans had established with God. Church leaders believed that unless the sinners were chastised, God would punish the whole community for a sin of such a magnitude. Despite having a sought out system of punishment for sinners, the tougher task for these leaders was to figure out who in fact was a sinner, as some did not confess. Those who did not confess or who had not been caught would behave hypocritically in order to preserve their reputation and avoid punishment. In both Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter and Arthur Miller s The Crucible, the repercussions of committing adultery are exhibited through characters in two different puritanical societies. Arthur Dimmesdale, Hester Prynne, John Proctor, and Abigail Williams are all victims to this. Despite living in sincere societies, these characters behave hypocritically in order to hide a concealed truth, resulting in internal ignominy, until they ultimately confess. The Sapir Whorf Hypothesis And Arguments For And Against It For all humans, language is the most common means of communication with others and it enables us to share our experiences and stories and to tell about our needs and feelings. For example, Yamamoto states that sociolinguistics see, it is primarily through the use of language that people communicate with each other (1979: 146). We all speak one or more languages and as the main way of communication it is an important and vital part of our lives. There is many languages in the world and they differ from one another in many ways. But does the language we speak reflect to the way we see and experience the world around us? This paper will explore the question through the Sapir Whorf hypothesis and arguments for and against it. The Sapir Whorf hypothesis mentioned above is based on the ideas of Edward Sapir and Benjamin Whorf who studied aboriginal languages among Native American tribes, mostly the Hopi. They believed that the language one speaks is directly related to the way they understand the reality and see the world. For example, Whorf once wrote we dissect nature along lines laid down by our native languages (Whorf cited in Salzmann 1993: 153) which led to Zdenek Salzmann s conclusion of Whorf s ideas: Difference among languages must therefore be reflected in the differences in the worldviews of their speakers (1993: 156). • 44. Essay On Helen Keller Helen Keller House and Museum at Ivy Green When I heard about this assignment I didn t really know what I wanted to do. I heard about a special lady who was born in Tuscumbia Alabama. The special lady I was referring too was Helen Keller, I didn t really know much about her except for the fact that she was blind and deaf. I have also heard about the play and the movie Miracle Worker that was based off of her life. Little did I know I was in for a treat, learning about this magnificent woman s life and the influence she had on the deaf community. Helen Keller s early life started in Tuscumbia Alabama where she was born and raised. Helen home was located on 600 acres of land which was massive compared to what we have now. Her home was ... She did not come out of this unharmed she became blind and deaf. As a result Helen became a lot more of a problem child. Instead of sitting and eating with the rest of the family she would walk around the table and take food off of each of their plates. Also if Helen didn t receive what she wanted she would throw temper tantrums until she got her way. Once during one of her outburst she began to beat her hands so hard on the hardwood floor that her hands began to bleed. Helen later said during her time as a child she felt as if she was trapped in her own mind. Her parents had to do something, so they hired a teacher whose name was Anne Sullivan who was educated and graduated from the Perkins Institute at the age of twenty. This would be Anne s first job helping to educate Helen. Mr. Keller offered her thirty five dollars a month to move from Boston to their home in Alabama to with Helen. For the first few weeks Anne just observed Helen during her everyday activities, but one day Helen decided to take a piece of sausage from Anne s plate just as times before, but Anne slapped her hand and putting her hand to her face and moving it from side to side saying No ! This was a new concept to Helen because no one had ever told her no before. Because of this Helen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Life After Being Diagnosed With Brain Cancer Essay In 2014, the American public was captivated by the story of a young woman who decided to end her life after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Brittany Maynard, a 29 year old woman who had just been married, had been having splitting headaches. She went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a tumor. Her life became a blur of hospital visits, treatment plans, and research into what she could do. Her doctors came to the conclusion that there was no treatment that could save Maynard s life. According to an opinion piece that Maynard wrote for CNN, she quickly decided that death with dignity was the best option for [her] and [her] family (Maynard). Since she lived in Oregon, the idea of dying on an individual s terms was acceptable and legal, because of the Oregon Death with Dignity Act. Maynard died on Saturday, November 1, 2014. Physician assisted suicide is defined as a physician intentionally helping a person to terminate his or her life by providing drugs for self administration, at that person s voluntary and competent request (Radbruch et al. 109). There is a large controversy over whether or not a patient should be allowed to request and perform physician assisted suicide; doctors and patients alike have mixed feelings on the issue. The first democratic nation to recognize the legality of physician assisted suicide was Australia. They enacted a law that described certain conditions where the act was legal in the Rights of the Terminally Ill Amendment Act in 1996. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Christian Teachings on Warfare Essay Christian Teachings on Warfare For a war to be right in Christian teachings or for a war not to be wrong in Christian teachings it must follow the just war theory. This would be the first and main subject I would include in the booklet. The just war theory states that for a war to be called a just war it must · Be declared by a proper authority. · There must be a just cause for the war · The war must be of good intention (i.e. to do good or to over come an overpowering evil) · The war must be a last resort (i.e. every non violent way of solving the war must have been tried first) · The good the war will do must outweigh the harm · The war must be possible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many references in the bible that have a certain, war related meaning, or at least you can relate them to war. The reference thou shalt not kill (exodus 20) says that obviously you should not kill . There is rarely a war where anyone is not killed, so again you could say that wars in which people are killed are wrong. According to this, it would be near impossible for nuclear war to be right, as you would find it near impossible to use nuclear weapons without killing anyone! It is known that the blast from the Hiroshima bomb spread radiation for 36miles around, and today, the power of one bomb has increased 750,000 fold from that of the Hiroshima bomb. The results from the use of such a lethal weapon are horrifying. The loss of life would be unimaginable. Thou shalt not kill , well… my point is obvious. Do unto others as you would want done to you . Another bible reference (from the book of Matthew in the New Testament) maybe not directly referring to war but it can be related to a war situation. Do not do anything that you would not want doing to yourself, take for example killing. Would you want to be killed… the chances are that you don t, so don t kill if you don t want to be killed. This could be slightly turned around, as in a war situation you may kill people, but those people you may kill would most likely have killed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Partial And Late Term Abortion Partial and Late Term Abortion At the present time, abortion has become a hot topic that has sparked many heated debates in the recent presidential election, with both parties feeling strongly about the subject. Partial birth abortion can be defined as the removal of a fetus that has already died and a late term abortion is an abortion that occurs during a late stage of the pregnancy. I chose this topic in order to not only learn more and become better informed about this issue that has sparked such a widespread controversy, but also for the purpose of taking a closer look at the opposing sides to gain a better understanding of their views. Although I personally disagree with any kind of abortion, I would like to take a closer look at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the column s main idea was not my reason for selecting the article. I chose the article for its extensive, albeit slightly out of date, data and its knowledge presented that is written by educated, albeit biased, authors. Bonnie Jones and Tracy Weitz both have degrees that make them highly educated on the subject matter, however, a quick search of their names finds them to be highly partisan to the pro choice movement. Although this makes them no less educated on the topic of abortion, it allows the reader to see clear partiality in the article. For the reader like myself who would like to question other channels of thinking, this article presents a clear cut view of the concepts provided by the believers in the pro choice movement along with detailed explanations of the subject matter. John Leo runs the site Mindingthecampus.com, is a writer and contributing editor for The City Journal and has written multiple facetious articles such as his essay published in 2001 entitled Incorrect Thoughts. His article, The First Crack In The Wall, presents a plethora of instances of partial birth abortion activists going back on their word and an accurate drawing of an abortion procedure being attacked by activists. The column also presents factual information as well, such as the effects of a partial birth abortion. The author concludes his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Rhetorical Analysis of Hillary Clinton s Speech, Women’s... On September 5, 1995, Hillary Clinton delivered an influential speech at The Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. Clinton expresses general concern over escalating violence toward women, in other word s gendercide. Gendercide refers to the systematic elimination of a specific gender group, normally female. It s most common in India, China, and other regions in Southeast Asia (GirlsKind Foundation). Crimes, such as bride trafficking, infanticide, abandonment, and dowry related murder; often take place within private households, going unnoticed and not even acknowledged. Tragically, women are most often the ones whose human rights are violated. Even now, in the late 20th century, the rape of women continues to be used as an ... • 50. Home Vs. Concrete Wall Home In truth, a concrete wall house is substantially warmer than stick built construction. Advanced technology ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) homes are actually much warmer than traditional stud wall construction, as well as being far more energy efficient. Here are the facts. Thermographic tests done by the National Association of Home Builders Research Center showed that a solid ICF wall (a wall without windows or other penetrations) has fewer cold spots than a wood framed wall. This is because the thermal envelope the shield between outside and inside temperatures is much more difficult to seal in conventional stud wall construction, so that cold easily travels through thermal bridging to create uncomfortable cold spots inside the house. ICF walls, by contrast, are tightly sealed so that thermal bridging is reduced, which makes for even temperatures and fewer cold spots and drafts. Moreover, houses with ICF wall construction result in a 50% decrease in the capacity of HVAC equipment as compared to wood framed wall construction (which of course implies greatly reduced heating and cooling costs). How does ICF construction accomplish this? Concrete form insulation is constructed of blocks of parallel slabs of expanded polystyrene foam. These blocks are stacked up and snap together like children s Lego toys. Steel rebar is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 51. The Methods For Sentiment Analysis III. APPROACHES OF SENTIMENT ANALYSIS. Sentiment analysis consists of various elements out of which lexicons are an integral part. These lexicons are nothing but the words which make up a sentence. These lexicons can also be known as sentiment lexicon or opinion lexicons. It is important that we classify the lexicons we have into positives or negatives in order to achieve review analysis. One of the methods for sentiment analysis and classification is done on the basis of these lexicons. There are two broad approaches for sentiment analysis. These are lexicon based approaches and machine learning based approaches. These approaches are further divided into different methods as shown in the figure given below. Fig. 2 Sentiment analysis flow Let us consider each approach in more detail. A) Machine Learning Approaches Machine learning methods include the concepts from soft computing field. These methods are classified as supervised and unsupervised methods. The supervised methods can either be probabilistic classifiers else it can be linear classifiers. Probabilistic classifiers include algorithms which use probability to find the classification and then separate the lexicons based on probabilistic calculations. In this approach we use data driven methods, which include the following algorithms. a. Naïve Baye s Classifier: This algorithm includes the use of Baye s theorem for determining the ... Phrasing Trauma In Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl Phrasing Trauma: Ozick s The Shawl Few topics still carry a stronger resonance than that of the experiences of those who were sent to concentration camps during the Holocaust. Cynthia Ozick tells a deeply moving story about one woman s experience being sent to and surviving in a camp in The Shawl . It is an intimate look at a mother s love for her daughters in the face of evil both from outside and within their family. The diction of The Shawl is heavily influenced by the mental state of its main character.
