Introduction
Ground water is the biggest source of drinking water available to human population around the
world and is rapidly being polluted because of industrialization and increasing demands of agriculture
around the world. Ground waters frequently contain iron, manganese and ammonium above the
allowed concentration levels for drinking water (Strembal, 2004)There are a lot of dangers associated

1 I measured 100mL of soil into a 250mL beaker, and then fill the beaker with water to 200mL mark.
2 Then I had to pour the soil and water solution back and forth between two 250mL beakers for a total
of about 15 times.
3 After I mixed the solution I poured out 10mL of the contaminated water into a clean 100mL beaker.
The contaminated was used later to compare the treated water at the end of the process.
4 Then I had to add 10 grams of the alum to the 250mL beaker that has the contaminated water, and
then mixed for 1 2 minutes with a wooden stick and then it sat for 15 minutes.
5 While I was waiting for the 15 minutes I cleaned out the empty 250mL beaker and folded a piece of
the cheesecloth into a 4 layers thick and lined the inside of the funnel.
6 Once I had the funnel lined with the cheese cloth I was able to start layering the funnel. I poured
40mL of sand on the top of the cheesecloth, then 20mL activated charcoal, and then 40mL of gravel.

Introduction: Hard water is a term used to refer to water which has high concentrations of magnesium,
calcium, and iron ions. (Lerner, 2014) In this experiment, concentrations of magnesium and calcium
ions were the main focus.
Water hardness is an important factor to consider because it has a great effect on the everyday lives of
people around the world. In most places, drinking hard water does not contribute a significant amount
of calcium or magnesium towards the recommended amount for the human diet, but it can in locations
where the drinking water is extremely hard. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Molar concentration is simply the number of moles of ions per liter of water. Parts per million is a
ratio of weights, and for every one part per million, there is 1 pound of solute for every million pounds
per liter. (Hardness)
EDTA titration, as well as AA (atomic absorption spectrophotometry) are two main ways in which
water hardness is measured. EDTA is performed by adjusting the pH of the water with the use of a
buffer, then adding an indicator to the solution, which will turn red if calcium ions are present. If only
magnesium is present in the solution, it will remain blue. Then an EDTA solution is added to the
solution. The complete reaction of all calcium and magnesium ions with the EDTA solution is
represented by the change in color of the solution from red to blue. (Thomson, 2014)AA, or atomic
absorption spectrophotometry, is performed by turning the water into an aerosol, which is then burned,
and the internal computer system of the machine uses the absorbance of light to provide a number
which corresponds to the concentration of ions in the water sample. (The Royal Society of Chemistry
Fine Chemicals and Medicinals Group). It is important to use more than one method to measure water
hardness, especially a method which relies mainly on the use of technology, to lower the possibilities
for human error, as well as to provide multiple values of hardness for comparison.
In order to remove the calcium and magnesium ions from water, it is put

Macbeth Tomorrow And Tomorrow Creeps Me From Day To Day
She should have died hereafter. There would have been a time for such a word. (line 17) Macbeth
utters these words after he hears the news of his wife s death. He is implying that now is not the time
for such a thing to happen. She should not have died right then because those words have little
meaning compared to what was happening at the time. If she had died a day or two after, that would
have been the time to mourn. Macbeth continues on saying, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow
creeps in this petty pace from day to day (line 19) meaning that no matter what happens today, the
war, his wife s death, tomorrow will still come. Tomorrow happens whether we like it or not and it
seems to come faster each day. The next few lines, To the last syllables of recorded time, and all our
yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death, (line 21) mean all the words we have said, all the
syllables recorded of our time on earth, lighted and lead the way to our death in some form or fashion.

In Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s cases the words they said and actions they made cost multiple people
s lives and ultimately their own. Macbeth then says, Out, out, brief candle! Life s but a walking
shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. (line 23)
The brief candle is life itself. If life was a person it would behave as someone who was always making
themselves seen and heard but never really doing anything significant. That is often times how most
people live. Once someone dies, most of the time they are remembered for a short period of time and

Descriptive Essay About A Beach
It was late March during Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale, our famous tourist season which dubbed
my city Fort Liquor dale to the college crowd. The beaches were bustling with cars from out of state
and lively with snowbirds basking at the ocean s edge with oily, sunburned bodies in colorful bathing
suits, and wet, clinging trunks soaking up the last few rays before the sunset. Steven called from the
escort agency late one afternoon and informed me that a young, recently married college couple had
requested a female escort to come to their oceanfront hotel room on Fort Lauderdale beach. He told
me the husband said my service will be for his wife as a honeymoon gift. The young husband also
indicated he would like to watch his wife introduced to some domination with a spanking if he had
anyone who knew what to do. My first assumptions were that the couple was rich and the two of them
were used to expensive, kinky fun, or maybe they had agreed to be swingers and this was a way to
break the ice. At ten o clock in the evening, I knocked on their hotel room s door. I carried a tote bag.
A pretty girl with long, wavy blonde hair still wet from the shower, turquoise eyes, and a shapely,
Barbie Doll model type figure in her early twenties answered the door. She ushered me to the coral
flowered sofa and asked what I d like to drink, either vodka or merlot. She introduced herself as
Brooke and said her husband s name was Rudy. Rudy stood up from his chair to shake my hand. I

Obamacare Persuasive Essay
Several of us are watching the news right now waiting to see if Senate Majority Leader Mitch
McConnell and Congress get the 50 out of 52 votes to repeal legislation and to begin the Obamacare
debate. After the votes are counted the debate will start for Obamacare to be repealed or to not be
repealed. Obamacare, also known as Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, was signed in March
2010 by Obama to Include multiple provisions that would take effect over a matter of years, including
the expansion of Medicaid eligibility, the establishment of health insurance exchanges and prohibiting
health insurers from denying coverage due to pre existing conditions. ( Affordable ). Therefore, this
debate will show what Obamacare does for the people of the U.S, what will replace Obamacare if it is
repealed, and if it is worth all the hassle of repealing and replaces it with Trump Care or to not replace
it. Obamacare should not be repealed because several Americans are relying on Obamacare s cost
assistance to afford health care. Many citizens often ask each other, What is Obamacare? To be quite
honest, not many people could explain to each other what Obamacare is. The main goal of Obamacare
is to give access to more affordable health insurance and to reduce the growth of overall spending on
health care in the U.S (DeMichele, What is Obamacare? ). Obamacare may seem like every other bill
that can be repealed or replaced but it is not. Citizens lean on Obamacare to give them the

What Are Some Important Lessons From Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was one of the most destructive weather disasters in United States history. It
destroyed homes and property, and killed and injured thousands of people. It also highlighted the poor
emergency response to a natural disaster by the state and federal governments. Many American
citizens believed that the government response was ineffective and inefficient. The government
response provided many opportunities to learn lessons and become better at responding to natural
disasters in the future. Citizens hope that their government have learned lessons and implemented
changes so that future disasters do not result in significant loss of life and property. According to
Waugh (2007), the biggest lesson learned was the nation s emergency management system is broken,
and that officials need to rebuild local, state, and regional capacities to reduce hazards and respond to
disasters (4). After September 11, 2001, American emergency managers were ... Show more content

This was apparent after Hurricane Katrina and the inadequate response. Officials must be responsible
for the well being of their citizens. According to Waugh (2007), at a minimum, officials must (1)
review the history, frequency, and severity of potential hazards; (2) assess the vulnerability of their
communities; (3) identify steps that can be taken to mitigate the hazards; and (4) on the basis of risk
and vulnerability assessments, determine how resources can best be allocated to reduce losses (13).
The lack of preparation by the city, state, and federal governments was apparent at the New Orleans
Superdome and Convention Center. According to Waugh (2007), Neither the Superdome nor the
convention center had adequate food or water, and neither was managed effectively as an emergency
shelter (6). Thousands of citizens in the major metropolis of New Orleans were injured and died to

Primary And Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency
Adrenal Insufficiency This paper describes the differences between primary and secondary adrenal
insufficiency. As health care providers it is important to be able to distinguish between the two and to
know how to treat the patient. It is also imperative that an acute adrenal crisis can be recognized. This
paper will discuss how to recognize and treat adrenal insufficiency.
Primary adrenal insufficiency Primary adrenal insufficiency occurs when the adrenal glands fail to
release glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids, despite the release of adrenocorticotrophic hormone
(ACTH) from the pituitary, and may be fatal if untreated (Griffing, 2015). Margulies (2015) describes

are presented in Table 1.
Evaluation
A medical history is very important if the patient has any symptoms mentioned above, especially
hyperpigmentation of the skin or gums, it is often enough to raise a strong suspicion, prompting the
appropriate tests. The following tests are appropriate to order to diagnose adrenal insufficiency: Serum
chemistry, abnormalities are present in as many as 56% of patients. Hyponatremia is common
although not diagnostic; hyperkalemia, metabolic acidosis, and hypoglycemia also may be present.
However, the absence of laboratory abnormalities does not exclude the diagnosis of adrenal crisis.
Serum cortisol, less than 20 mcg/dL in severe stress or after ACTH stimulation is indicative of adrenal
insufficiency. ACTH test which is diagnostic, determine baseline serum cortisol, then administer
ACTH 250 mcg intravenous push (IVP), and then draw serum cortisol 30 and 60 minutes after ACTH
administration. An increase of less than nine mcg/dL is considered diagnostic of adrenal insufficiency.
CBC, anemia mild and nonspecific, lymphocytosis, and eosinophilia highly suggestive may be
present. Serum thyroid levels, assess for

Essay about John Keats s Ode to Indolence
John Keats has many memorable and distinct poems. He is well known for his ability to write and
adored by many. Ode on Indolence is a poem that can be relatable to its readers due to its idea of how
indolence interferes with life s opportunities, in particular the three mentioned in the poem, love,
ambition and poesy. Keats refers to these three figures as ghosts (51) therefore insinuating that they
once lived, but now they are mere figments of energy and air. Keats poem six stanzas of ten lines each
in iambic pentameter, he begins his poem with a passage from Matthew 6:28, They toil not, neither do
they spin , he uses this as reference for describing the three figures of the poem. In other, simpler
words, he is saying that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keats identifies the three shadows in the third stanza labeling them as love, who was a maid, ambition,
pale and watchful and the last of the three shadows being poesy, which the speaker identifies as his
demon as well as his love. He also identifies them as maidens, each mild in their own way. Halfway
through the poem, the readers are shown three things that the speaker considers to be his maidens. He
shows his love individually for each of them as well as his dislike that they are there to take away his
peaceful summer, a metaphor that represents that warm weather is about to disappear, or that a
vacation is coming to an end.
The fourth stanza represents the speaker s sudden will for the maidens, as they were all he wanted,
until he decides on reasons as to why he may not need them. This only happens after the speaker
addresses that they faded, and, forsooth, I wanted wings! (31) He gives reason for love and ambition
to be given up on but cannot find a reason for poesy, as it is his favorite of the three. In the fifth stanza
the speaker understands that the figures have no influence on him and indolence is simply the way to
keep, he refers to them and says Oh shadows, twas a time to bid farewell! / Upon your skirts had
fallen no tears of mine (49 50). In the final

The Pros And Cons Of Military Censorship
Military censorship is a complex and multifaceted issue. With many important issues to consider it can
be hard to come down hard on one side of the issue. However, this is not the case for Mr. Thomas. His
opinion that censorship should not be tolerated in a democracy under any circumstances, least of all in
times of war (Thomas 341) falls hard on one side of the issue. Sadly in doing this he makes many
glaring errors and generalizations. While the public should be aware of the activities in the future,
revealing military activity prematurely can end with disastrous results.
In his first point Mr. Thomas claims that there is no need to be concerned with important information
accidentally being betrayed. He states All members of the media are willing to hold back information
that might jeopardize security (342). This is just simply not the case, however. For example, in 2003,
Geraldo Rivera bent down and began writing in the sand. This writing turned out to be information
that was not yet supposed to be disclosed. At one point, he actually revealed the time of an attack prior
to its occurrence, Lt. Mark Kitchens, a spokesman at Central Command(Carr 2003). Thomas even
contradicts himself in the very same paragraph by making us aware of two reporters that had their
privileges revoked during Vietnam (342).
Mr. Thomas also claims that military censorship is the reason reporters go searching for their own
information and consequently get lost or end up captured. He

Difference Between Cat And Dogs
There are numerous pet lovers in the United States and world. Many have heard the question about
either being a dog or a cat person. Cat and dog owners are all over the globe. The argument which
dogs are better than cats or cats are better than dogs has been an argument which has been going on
forever and ever. The cat and dog rivalry has been going on for years, decades, or possibly more than a
century. Out of the two animals, one has to be superior to the other. Most Americans would prefer to
own a dog over a cat, and only a few would rather have a cat as a pet than a dog. Not too many
citizens would have both cat and dogs as pets or none at all as pets. Approximately 80 million people
own pets, close to 37% own a dog and roughly 30% are owners of a cat. Depending on whether
someone is a dog owner or a cat owner, personality types differ. There are plenty of reasons why a dog
is a better pet than a cat. Having a dog is similar to having another caring person around. Being a dog
owner is better than being a cat owner. Being a dog owner is better because having a dog as a pet
comes with many benefits. Generally having a dog as a pet is an abundance of fun for several
individuals. People who have fun tend to be more positive in life, and a dog can bring out the positive
side in almost every individual. A dog can help others in multiple ways that people may not know
about. Owning a dog can help a person to stay in shape. McGrill points out, There are physical, mental

Orca Whales in Captivity
If you love something, set it free. This is a quote that has circulated for years, and nowhere else is it
more applicable than in SeaWorld s parks. Trainers and corporate alike claim a deep love for the
animals they keep captive, but in recent years, the topic of holding orca whales in captivity has
become more controversial than ever before. The CNN documentary Blackfish brought the conditions
Seaworld provides for its orcas to the public eye in a way that had not been done before, which led to
much public outrage. The containment of orca whales for educational and entertainment purposes has,
in almost every way, been brought into question. Ranging from the physical and psychological
damages they experience, the issues in their family structures, and the dangers that their human
trainers experience, orca whales are not fit to be kept in captivity.
Many of SeaWorld s former trainers have admitted to seeing physical and psychological damages
amongst the animals. One prime physical condition many whales have been exposed to is what is
commonly referred to as raking. Raking occurs when one orca drags, or rakes, its teeth along another
whale. According to Seaworld s own website, Killer whales may rank themselves and establish
dominance by... raking (tooth scratching) and other vigorous behavior (Manby). Raking is a
completely natural practice among orcas, but the issue truly arises

Exegesis Of Psalm 23
Exegesis on Psalm 23
Introduction:
The 23rd Psalm is arguably the most infamous and popular psalms among people in the western
world. With 1/3 of the worlds population identifying with an Abrahamic faith (Christian, Jews or
Muslin), the psalms play a vital role in the emotions towards God and about God to the believer. This
psalm is neither intermingled with prayers, nor does it complain of miseries for the purpose of
obtaining relief; but it contains simply a thanksgiving, from which it appears that it was composed
when David had obtained peaceable possession of the kingdom, and lived in prosperity, and in the
enjoyment of all he could desire. That he might not, therefore, in the time of his great prosperity, be
like worldly men, who, when they seem to themselves to be fortunate, God in forgetfulness, and
luxuriously plunge themselves into their pleasures, he delights himself in God, the author of all the
blessings which he enjoyed. And he not only acknowledges that the state of tranquility in which he
now lives, and his exemption from all inconveniences and troubles, is owing to the goodness of God;
but he also trusts that through his providence he will continue happy even to the close of his life, and
for this end that he may employ himself in his pure worship. It s a Psalm of journey and of
nourishment both along the way and at the end.
Authorship
The Psalm begins with a title ascribing this psalm to David.

there were multiple characters willing to help Frodo, but who was there to give Frodo guidance,

In 1791, the First Bank of the United States was established and was signed off by George
Washington. It was located in Philadephia, but also had branches in other cities. The tasks in which it
performed were: accepting deposits, issuing bank notes, making loans, and purchasing securities.
Twenty years later the charter expired, and the United States was without a central bank for a couple
of years. During this time, the United States suffered from inflation. In 1816, James Madison signed
the Second Bank of the United States into existence. Once that charter expired, President Jackson
removed the government funds as part of the Bank War, and the United States went without a central

The Westing Game Movie And Book Comparison Essay
Two hundred million dollars, that s what the heirs had a chance of winning if they could solve the

all kinds of clues and very controversial decisions are made. The Westing Game book and movie
contain many similarities and differences that are worth staying for.
The novel and the movie are very different,in a unique way. The book is a story where there are 16
heirs and they all tell their own part of the story. The movie only has 10 heirs and Turtle is telling
everyone who each heir is. Even though the book and the movie have many differences there are even

1. Suppose you found the bones of an unidentified animal. How could you learn about what the animal
ate? What specific structures would give you clues about the creature s diet: The first thing I would
look for is specific traits that would narrow down the two million species list. Secondly, what kind of
animals live in the area (lets say we are in Canada). Obviously an animal with a spine would be a good
indicator that the animal is either a carnivore or a herbivore. But if we really want to know what an
animal eats in general we have to look at the animal s teeth. Let s say this animal we find has large flat
molars fore specifically grinding up plant matter and cellulose. Then it would be reasonable to assume
that the animal we are looking at is a deer. If the jaw of the animal is capable of moving side to side
and not just up and down than it is reasonable to assume even without looking at the teeth that this
animal is a herbivore. If the animal s jaw can move only up and down, we can safely guess that the
animal is mainly a carnivore. Carnivores need strong locked jaws that are incapable of shifting from
side to side so when they are holding onto prey their jaws can t be broken. Animal s that have large
canine teeth with minimal molars are generally carnivores. This jaw and teeth system isn t set in stone,

thousands of strands of E.coli. Six E. coli O157 outbreaks were identified during 2007. Four of the
outbreaks involved foodborne transmission. (Eshericha Coli). Six Minnesota cases and one Wisconsin

Who Is Lady Macbeth s Letter To Her Father
Dearest Beloved Mother and Father, In the short time of serving our mighty King Macbeth, I cannot
say anything but good things. Our majesty is nothing less than the kind, honorable, and noble man one
would expect him to be. On the contrary, however, there was one particular incident which startled me
greatly, and now I am fearful for my own life as well those in the kingdom.
Ere the day before, King Macbeth hosted the most elegant of all banquets in celebration of his
crowning. All was well; his servants and I tended to the guests with ease. Without any notice, a
mysterious, dark man emerged from the door s shadow and our King shortly excused himself and
proceeded to greet the man, privately. As I neared the end of the table, the two were deep in private

solid ice as our Majesty, AGAIN, cursed and pointed at the invisible being in the chair. His words still
ring inside my head, Take any shape but that, and my firm nerves/Shall never tremble: or be alive
again... Now, however, we were all issued away by Lady Macbeth. Leaving their steaming food
abandoned, Lords empty the room instantly, lacking order, and the servants and I aimed toward our
wing.
Is our majesty s sanity being challenged? It is questioned if he will continue his rule. I fear the worst
dear parents. Pray you will care for yourselves as I fear I will be returning home soon.

There Is Always Two Sides Of A Story Analysis
There is always two sides to a story is a common saying but when it comes to literature, the side of the
story that is told depends on the narrator. Stories written in first person point of view usually have an
unreliable narrator. This is mainly due to the fact that all of the information about the events in the
story only come from one side. The unreliability of first person narrative is shown in the three stories,
A P by John Updike, The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, and Young Man on Sixth Avenue
by Mark Halliday. The narrators are influenced by the time period they live in since the social norms
of that time impact their actions. They are also motivated by their own personal emotions which
influence how the narrators see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience only gets to see the other characters based on the narrator s opinions. Other factors such
as age and time period affect the narrators points of views as well. For example, Sammy is a teenage
boy that idolizes the three girls that walk into A P. Since the girls are pretty and in bathing suits, this
seems like a natural reaction from someone like Sammy. Had the story been told from someone else s
point of view, they might not have described the girls the same way. For Montresor and the narrator in
Man on Sixth Avenue , the time period that their stories take place in are a prominent factor in how
they act, 1800 Italy and early 1900 New York City respectively. Montresor most likely would not have
attempted murder on Fortunato had the story been set in modern times. The man in Man on Sixth
Avenue would also most likely explained his experience in New York City much differently if he had
been there in a different time period. All of these other story elements affect the way that each narrator
tells the story and how the audience will feel about the story subsequently. First person narrative limits
the audience s ability to see all sides of a story, but not knowing every detail of every character makes
a story that much more

Edward R. Murrow Sociology
To complete the service learning component of this course, I assisted Dr. Finley in conducting
research used to create an encyclopedia of documentary films on the subject of crime or the criminal
justice system. Documentary filmmaking is one of the oldest forms of motion picture. In 1919, when
motion pictures were in their infancy, a Russian filmmaker by the name of Dziga Vertov criticized the
Soviet film industry for creating the same fiction found in theaters and in literature instead of
documenting real life events. He likened film dramas to religion in that they are the opium of the
masses . It was not until 1922 that Robert Flaherty created the first true documentary. Nanook of the
North was the first full length film to use modern techniques, such as third person narration, taking a
subjective tone, and using an indigenous person as the film s hero. (UC Berkeley Media Resources
Center, n.d.) While Nanook was the first documentary, it was not until four years later, in 1926, that

characters but filmed using the same style as a typical documentary. The 1980s also saw the expansion

have entered the age of reality TV , although many would say those shows are more akin to
mockumentaries than reality. (UC Berkeley Media Resources Center,

Negative Effects Of Technology On Children
Smartphones, tablets, computers and televisions alike have all become a major part of modern culture.
They inform, entertain, amuses and assist us every day with news articles, videos and funny blurbs.
But technology s potentially harmful effect on young children has been a concern of adults for years.
Whether brainwashing children, ruining their eyes or making them violent, the list of the damaging
results of tech use grows longer by the minute. Parents feel the need to limit their child s exposure to
the provocative screens before the damage is irreversible. The concern is completely valid; technology
has the ability to entirely capture a child s attention in almost an unlimited fashion, there is endless
amounts of information for a young mind to absorb. Access to this sea of knowledge could keep a
child from experiencing more physical and interactive activities that build up other important skills
and developments in children. But this sea of knowledge does in fact hold many benefits for kids.
Much of the teachings that daycares and schools provide are on these devices and early access could
help put a kid ahead of the pack. In addition, because of the tremendous impact of technology and its
involvement with humans, kids who learn to use phones and tablets early will be more exposed and
adjusted to an everchanging world. In essence, the dangers of young children overusing electronics
exist but are not life threatening, when use of technology is managed properly children

Stress And Job Stress
Work plays an important part in the lives of many human beings and it affects their everyday well
being. Working is a huge challenge for a majority of the American people. The workplace is a big
contributing factor of job stress. Psychological ill health is related to the problem of job stress. There
are interventions that can be implemented to prevent or at least to reduce psychological problems.
Stress can be defined as an interaction between people and any kind of demand within their
environment. A stressor can be an event or an object which is harmful for an individual. Stress can
happen when the demand outweighs a human s ability to deal. Factors that may cause job stress
include long work hours, job insecurity, conflict among workers and supervisors, shift work, or
hazards. Job stress can cause low productivity, low employee morale, high turnover, increased call ins,
sickness and negative results. Aspects that need to be considered when diagnosing job stress include
age, sex, race, income, education, marital status and personality.
It is vital to determine who is affected by job stress. It seems as though most people are affected by
job stress at one time or another. Job stress is on the rise. People all over the world are beginning to
suffer from job stress. Job stress doesn t occur in just one profession but it tends to occur more in
streamlined countries. Job stress can affect an employee s personal life. Job stress can cause anxiety,
depression, ulcers, chronic disease, and heart disease. In most job stress related cases, individuals are
distressed by trying to combine occupational and family demands, such as caring for their children or
sick and aging parents (Wiersma Berg, 1991, p.1210). According to Lazarus (1991), employees who
are not able to control their lives at their working place are more likely to suffer occupational stress
and thus, can experience impaired health (p.4). Numerous studies have shown that low control, heavy
job demands may cause mental strain, job dissatisfaction, cardiovascular disease, etc. (Locke Taylor,
1990, p. 160). Family responsibilities also became a source of stress. It usually occurs in single parent
families or in those which both parents work. This

Unethical Ethics Of Advertising
Everyday, everywhere we are being inundated with advertisements. Whether it be while you are
walking down the street, shopping at the supermarket, or even in the safety of your own home
enjoying some tv in your down time. Advertising, whether it be big or small is everywhere; and in fact
there are many issues with it. Advertising that promotes a service or product in a deceptive way is
highly unethical. This is because it doesn t provide the customer with enough information that they
need in order to make a good, educated decision. And on another note, advertising is manipulative
because of the way it promotes consumption at such a large scale. Some of the main reasons for
advertising being dishonest are because it displays false savings, it exhibits unnecessary upselling and
possibly most importantly, it feul s wasteful consumerism. The significance of this problem, comes in
the form of the large sums of money people waste on products they don t need and once purchased,
realise they don t want. Frankly it is just too overt to look past.
A way that advertising is deceptive is by showing false savings. Advertising a shocking price cut is a
common marketing tactic, but some businesses inflate their prices beforehand just so they can
advertise the sizable price cut. In effect, the customer does not receive a good deal because the
discount reflects virtual, not actual, savings. Word s such as closeout and clearance are commonly
used by companies, which give consumers the

How Does Prospero Change In The Tempest
In Shakespeare s play, The Tempest , Prospero, the main character, is the rightful Duke of Milan. He

events and experiences of being exiled advance character to become isolated and enriched at the same

his title and homeland, but is later refined due to those experiences.

serving another master, these acts of change are key to the improvement and empowerment Prospero

rarer action is in virtue than in vengeance. Prospero also shows enrichment of character when he sets
Ariel free after commanding him to make smooth sailing upon the return to Naples and Milan,
contrasting to the beginning of the play when Prospero seems ungrateful about the service of Ariel.
The problem Prospero had that paved the way to him being exiled, was his obsession with studying
his art/magic. It is through his experience on the island where he finally comes to realize that the
source and self improvement that he needed to make was giving up his magic. This is symbolized by
the throwing away of his books and his plea to the audience to release him from his bands . By giving

He also led two expeditions to Britain. Caesar was going to seize power in Rome. He crushed an army

The Effects Of Stress On Captive Zoo Animals
Introduction.
The effects of stress on captive zoo animals has been a major concern among zoologists as well as
zookeepers in recent years (Fernandez et al.2009). In previous studies, one of the major factors
inducing stress in captive animals that appears to have been overlooked, are the noise levels created by
the presence of zoo visitors and the effectiveness of the design of indoor zoo exhibits in reducing the
noise levels in particular. While research exists showing that the presence of zoo visitors can be a
source of enrichment for captive animals, particularly those who are social by nature, further
investigations have indicated that visitor presence can in fact be a source of stress in non social species
including felids (Hosey 2000). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This study will look at the effectiveness of the exhibit design in preventing noise pollution caused by
the increased number of visitors to the Milwaukee County Zoo jaguar exhibit. The exhibit which
contains both an indoor portion which is designed to resemble the jaguar s native jungle habitat as
well as an outdoor portion, currently houses three adult jaguars, Pat, Stella, and Francisco. Both Pat,
who is 16 years old and formally a Problem jaguar from Belize, and Stella who came to the
Milwaukee County Zoo in 2005, live together as a breeding pair (K. Kuhn in conversation). Francisco
is the 2 year old son of Pat and Stella and lives alone (K. Kuhn in conversation). Over the course of
six weeks, I will be collecting data using Wensen WS1361C decibel meters which are equipped with
data loggers. The decibel meters will be used both inside and outside the jaguar exhibit to determine
the effectiveness of the exhibit design. To analyze the zoo visitor effect, as well as the frequency of
stress related behavioral responses observed, data will be collected during on three different days of
the week both through observation of the jaguars as well as later analysis of the data recorded by the
decibel meters. Data will be collected both on days where zoo visitation is predicted to increase,
which are designated as Family Free Days, where visitors receive free admission as well as Non
Family Free days and Thursday afternoons where a decrease in zoo visitation is predicted for
observation time totaling a minimum of 15 hours. The recorded data will then be analyzed to
determine if the increased noise pollution created by an increase in zoo visitors will correlate with an
increase in stress related behavioral responses by the jaguars.

movements such as public education and women s rights both made essential impacts on American
Society. One of the many changes in the Age of Reform was the reform of public education. The first

Originally, the rights of American women were minor. Women could not vote, serve on juries, or
attend colleges among other restrictions. Women like Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton
fought long and hard for civil, religious, and social rights of American women. Stanton wrote the
Declaration of Sentiments which was modeled after the Declaration of Independence. This declaration
demanded equality of men and women. Women s suffrage, or the right to vote, was another struggle
for the women to overcome. These women did win some small victories such as convincing New York
to pass a law protecting women s property rights, and some states even began to allow married women
to keep their wages. Education also improved for women. American schools were focused on
educating boys, who would grow up to be voters, so Emma Willard started The Troy Female
Seminary. Eventually, Mary Lyon built Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, which was the first college
for women, although it was not called a college at the time. Even though education improved for
women, it would not be until 1920 that a constitutional amendment would be made to allow women to

2,400 people were killed, 21 ships of the USS pacific fleet were either damaged or sunk, 188 aircrafts
were destroyed and another 160 were damaged. Before the attack was carried out by Japanese military
forces, the Japanese had cut off all communications with the United States Military and then broke off
all negotiations with the United States. Tension between the US and Japan can be traced back to the
early nineteenth century. Japanese had been planning this attack on the United States since early 1941.
The goal of the attack was to prevent the US from entering World Was 2 by weakening their Naval
Base. In reality the attack only helped persuade American people to go to war, where as before the
attack most Americans were anti war, they believed that it was better to stay out of the war unless we
had been attacked by another country first. In this case an organized international intelligence agency
stronger than the Office of Strategic Services like the CIA would have been responsible for gathering
information on a large scale about Japan and why the US had had no communications with the
Japanese for a significant amount of time. An agency such as the CIA would could have saved all

The Presentation of Women in La Belle Dame Sans Merci and...
The Presentation of Women in La Belle Dame Sans Merci and Mariana Though both poems have the
common theme of unrequited love, Keats and Tennyson assign very different characteristics to the
women in their poems. In Mariana , the woman is submissive and a victim of cruelty, whereas La
Belle Dame in La Belle Dame Sans Merci is the more powerful of the man and woman in the poem,
and the one inflicting the cruelty. In both poems, the landscapes mirror these characteristics, and even
the feelings of these two women. The landscape is also symbolic of Mariana, as she is mortal and will
eventually die as plants die, and seasons change. She is therefore more naturalistic than the mysterious
Belle Dame is. Her mystery is further ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tennyson s use of pathetic fallacy portrays a depressed, low , Mariana. Especially Mariana s aversion
to light associates her with death, or unhappiness, as opposed to life or happiness. However, perhaps
even La Belle Dame is unhappy, as she is forced to spend her whole life abandoning men, without
change. This is shown by the number of Kings and Princes she has wounded: pale Kings and Princes
too, Pale warriors, death pale were they all. As there have been so many men ruined by her, it seems
likely she has been doing the same thing all her life. The rhythm and shape of the poem could
similarly reveal her endless life, as throughout there is a iambic tetrameter, until the last line of each

Dotus Variation Lab Report
Introduction
For the past few weeks in Biology 107, the class has been touching on the subject of evolution and
how it is brought about through various processes. Evolution is a concept that has been researched
extensively for over a century now and continues to bring interesting findings day after day.
According to the Hardy Weinberg law (a principle that contributes to the understanding of evolution)
first introduced by Godfrey Hardy and Wilhelm Weinberg states that there are five possible agents of
evolutionary change, including: natural selection, genetic drift, mutations, gene flow, and nonrandom
mating. Nonetheless, the mechanism of interest for this particular lab is natural selection. According to
Mader, Natural Selection is the mechanism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this is only one case the results all seem to give a reasonable explanation to how this
simulation can be applied in natural environments. It is logical to assume that the phenotypes (colors)
that stand out in the environment (map) will most likely be the ones selected (eaten) by predators. For
example, in this experiment the phenotypes subjected to positive selection pressure for the most part
were dark colored dots or dots that were better blended into the environment, more specifically the
green and clear colors who most likely blended with the grasses or trees. The phenotypes that were
subjected to negative selection pressure were much of the bright colored dots that stood out in the
environment, more specifically the hot pink, orange, and yellow colors. Furthermore, there are many
similar documented cases and scenarios that go to show that these types of results are likely in the
wild. One example is that of the tadpole fish who alter their body symmetry (the way they look) in
response to predators. According to Herzog, Rabus, Ribeiro and Laforsch (coauthors of Inducible
Defenses with a Twist : Daphnia barbata Abandons Bilateral Symmytry in Response to an Ancient
Predator, ) the body torsion likely contributes to the increased survival rate of Triops induced
D.barbata. These two examples, although not even a fraction of experiments performed, show strong
evidence of the effects

Unprofessionalism In The Workplace Essay
Unprofessionalism in the workplace is a highly controversial topic that is debated by numerous of
individuals. Mainly, because of the different backgrounds, religion, race, and up brings that we same
as members of the United States. Many businesses consider dreadlocks, which are ropelike strands of
hair formed by matting or braiding hair, unprofessional. Why is that woman wearing a burka, niqab,
hijab, chador, or dupatta considered to have on unprofessional attire? Would you consider an
employee as being insubordinate or unprofessional if he/she refuses to do tasks assigned by the
manager that breaks their moral laws? We all can agree that unprofessionalism or professionalism falls
under these categorizes dress and grooming, employee interaction, harassment, workplace conduct,
and ethics. Where people differ is what, or who says something is unprofessionalism or
professionalism. Most of the time companies establish guidelines or employee handbooks that outlines
what you can and cannot wear, how you hair should or should not be, along with many other things.
Therefore, which company is right or wrong? Becoming more informed on the most unprofessional
acts or laws will create a workplace that we all can share comfortably.
One thing in common among employees handbooks is business suits, which became a necessary item
in most white collar jobs during the early 19th century. Invented by Beau Brummell it is a stable of

Special Maintenence to Control the Instability of Aging...
Construction of steel bridges in the 19th 20th century mostly depended on the use of rivets for
connection. Bridges got built at a much greater rate than any other steel or iron construction using
rivets. Riveting was a better proven and understood method of construction. They made a very strong
connection when applied but were very prone to corrosion through rusting. Existing historic steel
bridges are aging and experiencing increased levels of deterioration due to increased demand in
vehicle weight and traffic volume. These bridges are increasing becoming weaker as the rivets used in
their contact wear out leading to instability and unreliable due to the poor construction. Assessment of
old bridges for maintenance purposes occurs regularly. These bridges have to undergo regular
maintenance and reinforcements. This aids in strengthening them and ensuring that they offer
adequate and reliable service to the general public.
Thousand of bridges across the USA carry, support and connect public roads. State Department Of
Transportation (DOTs) and The Federal Highway Administration have in the recent past focused on
improving the conditions of the Nations bridges through bridge inspection programs, the enhancement

Does the film Huang tudi (Yellow Earth) offer a critique of the Communist revolution? If so where
and how? Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou s Yellow Earth is a meaningful and controversial film that
highlights the young and old, realist and idealist, as well as the ideal utopia and bounded
bureaucracies touching on the notion of fate. Set in early 1939 in China, Yellow Earth follows the
story of Gu Qing, a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) soldier sent out among the peasants in Northern
Shaanxi to collect folksongs, to which the Communists intend to rewrite new lyrics to help inspire
soldiers and peasant followers to fight the Japanese invasion and work towards the revolution. Gu

San Cong Si De epitomises the notion of the traditional female virtues in China at the time, which
Cuiqiao is tied to. In the very male oriented and traditional values of the village, Gu Qing presented
himself as a catalyst for change in the eyes of Hanhan and more particularly, Cui qiao. Both Hanhan
and Cuiqiao are attracted to the promises of the CR for a better life; especially intriguing to Cuiqiao
are the promises of better equality for women that women under the CR can learn to read, write, and
even fight. This is reflected in the scene when Cuiqiao notices Gu Qing s ability to sew his own
clothes. She tells him she is impressed by his ability, to which he replies that women in the South
(Communist camp) cut their hair, and become soldiers to fight against the Japanese, just like men.
Hanhan s character in the film appears to be subtly comical, as well as rather silent and expressionless
throughout the majority of the film. As Hanhan got more acquainted with Gu Qing, he also got more
verbal. This reflects Hanhan s possible oppression of being unable to voice his own opinions, as well
as suggesting his character being overwhelmed by his living condition and social boundaries. He
appears to be a caring brother to Cuiqiao, but is helpless in verbally aiding his sister s pre prescribed
life of forced marriage and duties as a female. Hanhan s character becomes closer to Gu Qing,
allowing him to open up We see scenes of Hanhan and Gu Qing being

We can combine these with existing enterprise data warehouse to create an integrated information
supply chain which will be very effective. The goals of an information supply chain would be to
utilize and integrate the many various raw source data that already exists in organizations, analyze this
data and lastly to deliver the analytical results to business users. This information supply chain enable
the data component called Smarter Computing.
Supporting Extreme Workloads has always been a challenge faced by the computing industry. For
example the business transaction processing systems have supported extreme transaction workload
even since the beginning of data processing. With the advent of new business these organizations have
employed custom and optimized transaction processing systems to handle application workloads that
created boundaries which was beyond what could be handled by the generalized technologies. There
are many examples for this these type of application like :
1. Airline reservation systems
2. Retail point of sale terminals
3. Bank ATM systems
4. Financial trading systems
5. Mobile phone systems

Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be
proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would
have others think of us. In her novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen makes the point that an excess
of pride or vanity is indeed a failing.
Pride, observed Mary, . . . is a very common failing, I believe. By all that I have ever read, I am
convinced that it is very common indeed, that human nature is particularly prone to it, and that there
are very few of us who do not cherish a feeling of self complacency on the score of some quality or
another, real or imaginary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Collins possesses a definite sense of vanity. He is in no way concerned about his own opinion of
his character, for as we see his character leaves much to be desired. All he cares about is what others
think of him. He always needs the approval of his present company. When he gives Elizabeth the
grand tour of his nothing spectacular home, he is looking for her approval of his position and
possessions. It is not important to Mr. Collins for people to like him as a person, they just had better be
impressed his status in life and his connections.
Mr. Darcy, as one of the main characters, is for the better part of the novel a focus of the theme of
pride. His pride is very obvious. It is a part of his nature and is seen in his mannerisms and in his
speech. Darcy has such a high opinion of himself that he does not care what others think of him or his
prideful actions. He believes that he is the best in every way possible and finds that his standing in
society gives him the right to be critical of those not as perfect as he.
Elizabeth Bennet, the other main character of the novel, is just as guilty of being proud as any of the
other characters in the novel. She prides herself on being unprejudiced and rational in the judgement
of others. Yet, this is an imaginary quality as she learns that her preconceived notions of both Mr.

situation as tiring and gloomy because of the lifeless children he carries in his arms. Sooner or later, he

Three Categories of Discipline Essays
Discipline is an essential component of every child s developmental process. From birth, the primary
deficiency of children is their lack of knowledge and understanding of the world. Contrary to the
negative connotation of the word s modern usage, discipline actually has origin in Latin meaning to
teach. Therefore, discipline is simply the teaching of information that is necessary for children to be
successful in their respective environments. In child development, discipline refers to the teaching of
self control and morals intended to foster sound reasoning and behavior. The response to inappropriate
behavior through physical punishment is what gives discipline the negative connotation among many
in contemporary society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The success of power assertion is dependent on the child s continuation of fear of the authoritarian
parent. This fear tactic has very powerful effects on children, and can result in immediate behavioral
changes. This fast cure makes changing to a different discipline seem unnecessary. However, due to
habituation and maturity, children begin to question authority, leading frequently to an escalation in
the tactics used by the parent to maintain this absolute power. In addition, continuing use of power
assertion has been linked to unjustified aggressive behavior and moral immaturity in children
(Hoffman, 2000). Love withdrawal is a psychological form of discipline in which a parent employs
threat, the removal of attention and love, and a variety of punishment that can range from docile
(ignoring for a few seconds) to extreme (threats to leave the child). This form of punishment also is
highly effective at younger ages, as it preys upon the natural dependency of a child and uses fear to
induce guilt to achieve the desired behavior. As the child ages, their feeling of guilt translates into
higher than normal occurrences of depression and anxiety. As adults, the children who had received
love withdrawal harbor high levels of resentment and anger toward their parents (Segrin Flora, 2005).
Induction includes the forms of discipline in which the parents use conversation to reason with the
child to fully explain the potential

INTRODUCTION
A wetland can be described as the place where land meets water. Wetlands can be permanent or
seasonal (Reddam s wetland is seasonal). Wetlands are different to other ecosystems because they
support aquatic flora and fauna. There are different types of wetlands including marshes, swamps,
bogs and fens.
Ecological status refers to the state in which a specific ecosystem is. The testing of a wetland s
ecological status refers to determining the health of the wetland with careful consideration of the
ecosystem involved. This can be determined by looking at the following: physical factors such as
temperature, water depth, hydrology and structure; biological factors such as birds, animals and
vegetation; chemical factors such as pH levels, turbidity and oxygen.
A healthy wetland is able to benefit its own ecosystem as well as the ecosystems surrounding the
wetland. A healthy wetland is able to support the flora and fauna within the ecosystem and still fulfil
its main function dependent on what type of wetland it is.
Aim:
To determine the ecological status of the Reddam House wetland.
Hypothesis:
The Reddam House wetland is healthy.

The contaminated was used later to compare the treated water at the end of the process. 4 Then I had to add 10 grams of the alum to the 250mL beaker that has the contaminated water, and then mixed for 1 2 minutes with a wooden stick and then it sat for 15 minutes. 5 While I was waiting for the 15 minutes I cleaned out the empty 250mL beaker and folded a piece of the cheesecloth into a 4 layers thick and lined the inside of the funnel. 6 Once I had the funnel lined with the cheese cloth I was able to start layering the funnel. • 4. The Chemistry Of Natural Waters Emily Schwarz 12 November 2014 The Chemistry of Natural Waters Section: 106 Group Members: Shaily Shah, James Shank, Aaron Selnick TA: Natalie Petrillo Introduction: Hard water is a term used to refer to water which has high concentrations of magnesium, calcium, and iron ions. (Lerner, 2014) In this experiment, concentrations of magnesium and calcium ions were the main focus. Water hardness is an important factor to consider because it has a great effect on the everyday lives of people around the world. In most places, drinking hard water does not contribute a significant amount of calcium or magnesium towards the recommended amount for the human diet, but it can in locations where the drinking water is extremely hard. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Molar concentration is simply the number of moles of ions per liter of water. Parts per million is a ratio of weights, and for every one part per million, there is 1 pound of solute for every million pounds per liter. (Hardness) EDTA titration, as well as AA (atomic absorption spectrophotometry) are two main ways in which water hardness is measured. EDTA is performed by adjusting the pH of the water with the use of a buffer, then adding an indicator to the solution, which will turn red if calcium ions are present. If only magnesium is present in the solution, it will remain blue. Then an EDTA solution is added to the solution. The complete reaction of all calcium and magnesium ions with the EDTA solution is represented by the change in color of the solution from red to blue. (Thomson, 2014)AA, or atomic absorption spectrophotometry, is performed by turning the water into an aerosol, which is then burned, and the internal computer system of the machine uses the absorbance of light to provide a number which corresponds to the concentration of ions in the water sample. (The Royal Society of Chemistry Fine Chemicals and Medicinals Group). It is important to use more than one method to measure water hardness, especially a method which relies mainly on the use of technology, to lower the possibilities for human error, as well as to provide multiple values of hardness for comparison. In order to remove the calcium and magnesium ions from water, it is put ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(line 17) Macbeth utters these words after he hears the news of his wife s death. He is implying that now is not the time for such a thing to happen. She should not have died right then because those words have little meaning compared to what was happening at the time. If she had died a day or two after, that would have been the time to mourn. Macbeth continues on saying, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day (line 19) meaning that no matter what happens today, the war, his wife s death, tomorrow will still come. Tomorrow happens whether we like it or not and it seems to come faster each day. The next few lines, To the last syllables of recorded time, and all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death, (line 21) mean all the words we have said, all the syllables recorded of our time on earth, lighted and lead the way to our death in some form or fashion. ... • 6. Descriptive Essay About A Beach It was late March during Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale, our famous tourist season which dubbed my city Fort Liquor dale to the college crowd. The beaches were bustling with cars from out of state and lively with snowbirds basking at the ocean s edge with oily, sunburned bodies in colorful bathing suits, and wet, clinging trunks soaking up the last few rays before the sunset. Steven called from the escort agency late one afternoon and informed me that a young, recently married college couple had requested a female escort to come to their oceanfront hotel room on Fort Lauderdale beach. He told me the husband said my service will be for his wife as a honeymoon gift. The young husband also indicated he would like to watch his wife introduced to some domination with a spanking if he had anyone who knew what to do. My first assumptions were that the couple was rich and the two of them were used to expensive, kinky fun, or maybe they had agreed to be swingers and this was a way to break the ice. At ten o clock in the evening, I knocked on their hotel room s door. I carried a tote bag. A pretty girl with long, wavy blonde hair still wet from the shower, turquoise eyes, and a shapely, Barbie Doll model type figure in her early twenties answered the door. She ushered me to the coral flowered sofa and asked what I d like to drink, either vodka or merlot. She introduced herself as Brooke and said her husband s name was Rudy. • 7. Obamacare Persuasive Essay Several of us are watching the news right now waiting to see if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Congress get the 50 out of 52 votes to repeal legislation and to begin the Obamacare debate. After the votes are counted the debate will start for Obamacare to be repealed or to not be repealed. Obamacare, also known as Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, was signed in March 2010 by Obama to Include multiple provisions that would take effect over a matter of years, including the expansion of Medicaid eligibility, the establishment of health insurance exchanges and prohibiting health insurers from denying coverage due to pre existing conditions. ( Affordable ). Therefore, this debate will show what Obamacare does for the people of the U.S, what will replace Obamacare if it is repealed, and if it is worth all the hassle of repealing and replaces it with Trump Care or to not replace it. Obamacare should not be repealed because several Americans are relying on Obamacare s cost assistance to afford health care. Many citizens often ask each other, What is Obamacare? To be quite honest, not many people could explain to each other what Obamacare is. The main goal of Obamacare is to give access to more affordable health insurance and to reduce the growth of overall spending on health care in the U.S (DeMichele, What is Obamacare? ). Obamacare may seem like every other bill that can be repealed or replaced but it is not. Citizens lean on Obamacare to give them the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. What Are Some Important Lessons From Hurricane Katrina Hurricane Katrina was one of the most destructive weather disasters in United States history. It destroyed homes and property, and killed and injured thousands of people. It also highlighted the poor emergency response to a natural disaster by the state and federal governments. Many American citizens believed that the government response was ineffective and inefficient. The government response provided many opportunities to learn lessons and become better at responding to natural disasters in the future. Citizens hope that their government have learned lessons and implemented changes so that future disasters do not result in significant loss of life and property. According to Waugh (2007), the biggest lesson learned was the nation s emergency management system is broken, and that officials need to rebuild local, state, and regional capacities to reduce hazards and respond to disasters (4). As health care providers it is important to be able to distinguish between the two and to know how to treat the patient. It is also imperative that an acute adrenal crisis can be recognized. This paper will discuss how to recognize and treat adrenal insufficiency. Primary adrenal insufficiency Primary adrenal insufficiency occurs when the adrenal glands fail to release glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids, despite the release of adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) from the pituitary, and may be fatal if untreated (Griffing, 2015). • 11. Essay about John Keats s Ode to Indolence John Keats has many memorable and distinct poems. He is well known for his ability to write and adored by many. Ode on Indolence is a poem that can be relatable to its readers due to its idea of how indolence interferes with life s opportunities, in particular the three mentioned in the poem, love, ambition and poesy. Keats refers to these three figures as ghosts (51) therefore insinuating that they once lived, but now they are mere figments of energy and air. Keats poem six stanzas of ten lines each in iambic pentameter, he begins his poem with a passage from Matthew 6:28, They toil not, neither do they spin , he uses this as reference for describing the three figures of the poem. Keats identifies the three shadows in the third stanza labeling them as love, who was a maid, ambition, pale and watchful and the last of the three shadows being poesy, which the speaker identifies as his demon as well as his love. He also identifies them as maidens, each mild in their own way. Halfway through the poem, the readers are shown three things that the speaker considers to be his maidens. He shows his love individually for each of them as well as his dislike that they are there to take away his peaceful summer, a metaphor that represents that warm weather is about to disappear, or that a vacation is coming to an end. The fourth stanza represents the speaker s sudden will for the maidens, as they were all he wanted, until he decides on reasons as to why he may not need them. This only happens after the speaker addresses that they faded, and, forsooth, I wanted wings! (31) He gives reason for love and ambition to be given up on but cannot find a reason for poesy, as it is his favorite of the three. In the fifth stanza the speaker understands that the figures have no influence on him and indolence is simply the way to keep, he refers to them and says Oh shadows, twas a time to bid farewell! / Upon your skirts had fallen no tears of mine (49 50). • 12. The Pros And Cons Of Military Censorship Military censorship is a complex and multifaceted issue. With many important issues to consider it can be hard to come down hard on one side of the issue. However, this is not the case for Mr. Thomas. His opinion that censorship should not be tolerated in a democracy under any circumstances, least of all in times of war (Thomas 341) falls hard on one side of the issue. Sadly in doing this he makes many glaring errors and generalizations. While the public should be aware of the activities in the future, revealing military activity prematurely can end with disastrous results. In his first point Mr. Thomas claims that there is no need to be concerned with important information accidentally being betrayed. He states All members of the media are willing to hold back information that might jeopardize security (342). This is just simply not the case, however. For example, in 2003, Geraldo Rivera bent down and began writing in the sand. This writing turned out to be information that was not yet supposed to be disclosed. At one point, he actually revealed the time of an attack prior to its occurrence, Lt. Mark Kitchens, a spokesman at Central Command(Carr 2003). Thomas even contradicts himself in the very same paragraph by making us aware of two reporters that had their privileges revoked during Vietnam (342). Mr. Thomas also claims that military censorship is the reason reporters go searching for their own information and consequently get lost or end up captured. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Difference Between Cat And Dogs There are numerous pet lovers in the United States and world. Many have heard the question about either being a dog or a cat person. Cat and dog owners are all over the globe. The argument which dogs are better than cats or cats are better than dogs has been an argument which has been going on forever and ever. The cat and dog rivalry has been going on for years, decades, or possibly more than a century. Out of the two animals, one has to be superior to the other. Most Americans would prefer to own a dog over a cat, and only a few would rather have a cat as a pet than a dog. Not too many citizens would have both cat and dogs as pets or none at all as pets. Approximately 80 million people own pets, close to 37% own a dog and roughly 30% are owners of a cat. Depending on whether someone is a dog owner or a cat owner, personality types differ. There are plenty of reasons why a dog is a better pet than a cat. Having a dog is similar to having another caring person around. Being a dog owner is better than being a cat owner. Being a dog owner is better because having a dog as a pet comes with many benefits. Generally having a dog as a pet is an abundance of fun for several individuals. People who have fun tend to be more positive in life, and a dog can bring out the positive side in almost every individual. A dog can help others in multiple ways that people may not know about. This is a quote that has circulated for years, and nowhere else is it more applicable than in SeaWorld s parks. Trainers and corporate alike claim a deep love for the animals they keep captive, but in recent years, the topic of holding orca whales in captivity has become more controversial than ever before. The CNN documentary Blackfish brought the conditions Seaworld provides for its orcas to the public eye in a way that had not been done before, which led to much public outrage. The containment of orca whales for educational and entertainment purposes has, in almost every way, been brought into question. Ranging from the physical and psychological damages they experience, the issues in their family structures, and the dangers that their human trainers experience, orca whales are not fit to be kept in captivity. Many of SeaWorld s former trainers have admitted to seeing physical and psychological damages amongst the animals. One prime physical condition many whales have been exposed to is what is commonly referred to as raking. Raking occurs when one orca drags, or rakes, its teeth along another whale. • 19. Exegesis Of Psalm 23 Exegesis on Psalm 23 Introduction: The 23rd Psalm is arguably the most infamous and popular psalms among people in the western world. With 1/3 of the worlds population identifying with an Abrahamic faith (Christian, Jews or Muslin), the psalms play a vital role in the emotions towards God and about God to the believer. This psalm is neither intermingled with prayers, nor does it complain of miseries for the purpose of obtaining relief; but it contains simply a thanksgiving, from which it appears that it was composed when David had obtained peaceable possession of the kingdom, and lived in prosperity, and in the enjoyment of all he could desire. That he might not, therefore, in the time of his great prosperity, be like worldly men, who, when they seem to themselves to be fortunate, God in forgetfulness, and luxuriously plunge themselves into their pleasures, he delights himself in God, the author of all the blessings which he enjoyed. And he not only acknowledges that the state of tranquility in which he now lives, and his exemption from all inconveniences and troubles, is owing to the goodness of God; but he also trusts that through his providence he will continue happy even to the close of his life, and for this end that he may employ himself in his pure worship. It s a Psalm of journey and of nourishment both along the way and at the end. Authorship The Psalm begins with a title ascribing this psalm to David. Without the information that Gandalf shares, Frodo would never have been aware of what real damage the ring could ve done. What specific structures would give you clues about the creature s diet: The first thing I would look for is specific traits that would narrow down the two million species list. Secondly, what kind of animals live in the area (lets say we are in Canada). Obviously an animal with a spine would be a good indicator that the animal is either a carnivore or a herbivore. But if we really want to know what an animal eats in general we have to look at the animal s teeth. Let s say this animal we find has large flat molars fore specifically grinding up plant matter and cellulose. Then it would be reasonable to assume that the animal we are looking at is a deer. If the jaw of the animal is capable of moving side to side and not just up and down than it is reasonable to assume even without looking at the teeth that this animal is a herbivore. If the animal s jaw can move only up and down, we can safely guess that the animal is mainly a carnivore. • 30. There Is Always Two Sides Of A Story Analysis There is always two sides to a story is a common saying but when it comes to literature, the side of the story that is told depends on the narrator. Stories written in first person point of view usually have an unreliable narrator. This is mainly due to the fact that all of the information about the events in the story only come from one side. The unreliability of first person narrative is shown in the three stories, A P by John Updike, The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, and Young Man on Sixth Avenue by Mark Halliday. The narrators are influenced by the time period they live in since the social norms of that time impact their actions. Had the story been told from someone else s point of view, they might not have described the girls the same way. For Montresor and the narrator in Man on Sixth Avenue , the time period that their stories take place in are a prominent factor in how they act, 1800 Italy and early 1900 New York City respectively. Montresor most likely would not have attempted murder on Fortunato had the story been set in modern times. The man in Man on Sixth Avenue would also most likely explained his experience in New York City much differently if he had been there in a different time period. Documentary filmmaking is one of the oldest forms of motion picture. In 1919, when motion pictures were in their infancy, a Russian filmmaker by the name of Dziga Vertov criticized the Soviet film industry for creating the same fiction found in theaters and in literature instead of documenting real life events. He likened film dramas to religion in that they are the opium of the masses . It was not until 1922 that Robert Flaherty created the first true documentary. Whether it be while you are walking down the street, shopping at the supermarket, or even in the safety of your own home enjoying some tv in your down time. Advertising, whether it be big or small is everywhere; and in fact there are many issues with it. Advertising that promotes a service or product in a deceptive way is highly unethical. This is because it doesn t provide the customer with enough information that they need in order to make a good, educated decision. And on another note, advertising is manipulative because of the way it promotes consumption at such a large scale. Some of the main reasons for advertising being dishonest are because it displays false savings, it exhibits unnecessary upselling and possibly most importantly, it feul s wasteful consumerism. The significance of this problem, comes in the form of the large sums of money people waste on products they don t need and once purchased, realise they don t want. • 37. The Effects Of Stress On Captive Zoo Animals Introduction. The effects of stress on captive zoo animals has been a major concern among zoologists as well as zookeepers in recent years (Fernandez et al.2009). In previous studies, one of the major factors inducing stress in captive animals that appears to have been overlooked, are the noise levels created by the presence of zoo visitors and the effectiveness of the design of indoor zoo exhibits in reducing the noise levels in particular. While research exists showing that the presence of zoo visitors can be a source of enrichment for captive animals, particularly those who are social by nature, further investigations have indicated that visitor presence can in fact be a source of stress in non social species including felids (Hosey 2000). ... This study will look at the effectiveness of the exhibit design in preventing noise pollution caused by the increased number of visitors to the Milwaukee County Zoo jaguar exhibit. The exhibit which contains both an indoor portion which is designed to resemble the jaguar s native jungle habitat as well as an outdoor portion, currently houses three adult jaguars, Pat, Stella, and Francisco. Both Pat, who is 16 years old and formally a Problem jaguar from Belize, and Stella who came to the Milwaukee County Zoo in 2005, live together as a breeding pair (K. Kuhn in conversation). Francisco is the 2 year old son of Pat and Stella and lives alone (K. Kuhn in conversation). Over the course of six weeks, I will be collecting data using Wensen WS1361C decibel meters which are equipped with data loggers. The decibel meters will be used both inside and outside the jaguar exhibit to determine the effectiveness of the exhibit design. To analyze the zoo visitor effect, as well as the frequency of stress related behavioral responses observed, data will be collected during on three different days of the week both through observation of the jaguars as well as later analysis of the data recorded by the decibel meters. Data will be collected both on days where zoo visitation is predicted to increase, which are designated as Family Free Days, where visitors receive free admission as well as Non Family Free days and Thursday afternoons where a decrease in zoo visitation is predicted for observation time totaling a minimum of 15 hours. The recorded data will then be analyzed to determine if the increased noise pollution created by an increase in zoo visitors will correlate with an increase in stress related behavioral responses by the jaguars. ... The Age of Reform was a social reform, or an attempt to improve upon issues in society, occurred in America during the mid 1800 s. Reform movements such as public education and women s rights both made essential impacts on American Society. One of the many changes in the Age of Reform was the reform of public education. Women like Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton fought long and hard for civil, religious, and social rights of American women. Stanton wrote the Declaration of Sentiments which was modeled after the Declaration of Independence. This declaration demanded equality of men and women. Women s suffrage, or the right to vote, was another struggle for the women to overcome. These women did win some small victories such as convincing New York to pass a law protecting women s property rights, and some states even began to allow married women to keep their wages. Education also improved for women. American schools were focused on educating boys, who would grow up to be voters, so Emma Willard started The Troy Female Seminary. Eventually, Mary Lyon built Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, which was the first college for women, although it was not called a college at the time. The Presentation of Women in La Belle Dame Sans Merci and Mariana Though both poems have the common theme of unrequited love, Keats and Tennyson assign very different characteristics to the women in their poems. Evolution is a concept that has been researched extensively for over a century now and continues to bring interesting findings day after day. According to the Hardy Weinberg law (a principle that contributes to the understanding of evolution) first introduced by Godfrey Hardy and Wilhelm Weinberg states that there are five possible agents of evolutionary change, including: natural selection, genetic drift, mutations, gene flow, and nonrandom mating. Although this is only one case the results all seem to give a reasonable explanation to how this simulation can be applied in natural environments. It is logical to assume that the phenotypes (colors) that stand out in the environment (map) will most likely be the ones selected (eaten) by predators. For example, in this experiment the phenotypes subjected to positive selection pressure for the most part were dark colored dots or dots that were better blended into the environment, more specifically the green and clear colors who most likely blended with the grasses or trees. The phenotypes that were subjected to negative selection pressure were much of the bright colored dots that stood out in the environment, more specifically the hot pink, orange, and yellow colors. Furthermore, there are many similar documented cases and scenarios that go to show that these types of results are likely in the wild. One example is that of the tadpole fish who alter their body symmetry (the way they look) in response to predators. According to Herzog, Rabus, Ribeiro and Laforsch (coauthors of Inducible Defenses with a Twist : Daphnia barbata Abandons Bilateral Symmytry in Response to an Ancient Predator, ) the body torsion likely contributes to the increased survival rate of Triops induced D.barbata. From birth, the primary deficiency of children is their lack of knowledge and understanding of the world. Contrary to the negative connotation of the word s modern usage, discipline actually has origin in Latin meaning to teach. Therefore, discipline is simply the teaching of information that is necessary for children to be successful in their respective environments. The success of power assertion is dependent on the child s continuation of fear of the authoritarian parent. This fear tactic has very powerful effects on children, and can result in immediate behavioral changes. This fast cure makes changing to a different discipline seem unnecessary. However, due to habituation and maturity, children begin to question authority, leading frequently to an escalation in the tactics used by the parent to maintain this absolute power. In addition, continuing use of power assertion has been linked to unjustified aggressive behavior and moral immaturity in children (Hoffman, 2000). Love withdrawal is a psychological form of discipline in which a parent employs threat, the removal of attention and love, and a variety of punishment that can range from docile (ignoring for a few seconds) to extreme (threats to leave the child). This form of punishment also is highly effective at younger ages, as it preys upon the natural dependency of a child and uses fear to induce guilt to achieve the desired behavior. As the child ages, their feeling of guilt translates into higher than normal occurrences of depression and anxiety. As adults, the children who had received love withdrawal harbor high levels of resentment and anger toward their parents (Segrin Flora, 2005).
