Analyzing The Evangelist Portraits By The Codex Amiatinus
Abstracts
Nick Baker (Princethorpe College)
Putting your Best Foot Forward: Reviewing the Evangelist Portraits in the Codex Amiatinus
The Christ in Majesty page (fol. 796v) has attracted a great deal of scholarly attention over the years.
Given that it shows Christ flanked by two angels, surrounded by circular bands and enclosed within a
jewelled border, there are many elements for the art historian to consider. Unfortunately, the portraits
and symbols of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have not been furnished with the attention they so
rightly deserve. This paper will revisit these images and attempt to place them into a wider artistic
context, thereby suggesting further theological meanings to the contemporary religious. It will also
highlight the result of recent photographic work on the page, conducted under ultraviolet light, which
has uncovered much more about the design of these portraits than has previously been known. Meg
Boulton (University of York)
From Cover to Cover: (Re)Presentations of Ecclesia and Eschatology in the Codex Amiatinus
This paper considers the illuminated pages of the Codex Amiatinus, the vast and elaborate eighth
century manuscript produced in Northumbria intended as a papal gift to Rome, giving particular
attention to the Tabernacle diagram, or Temple page of the Codex as it has been variously identified
(fols IIv‒IIIr), in the context of the two other miniatures in the manuscript. Differing groups of
scholars argue that the conceptually

Tanning Bed Research Paper
It is that time of the year again, prom season. Teenagers, mostly girls, prepare for weeks prior to this
event. People regularly go tanning to make sure they look darker for their special day. A large amount
of time, money, and effort goes into getting and keeping tanned skin. In an effort to avoid paleness,
people tan to fulfill their need for confidence and beauty. But, everyone seems to avoid thinking about
the consequences. Girls want to be tan to have a higher self esteem, even though studies show that
tanning is horrible for a person s health. There has been speculation that using a tanning bed is the
only harmful method to a person s health, but that is utterly wrong. A tan, whether from a bed, on the
beach, or through accidental exposure, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, People who have ever used a tanning bed have a sixty seven percent increased risk of
developing squamous cell carcinoma and a twenty nine percent increased risk of developing basal cell
carcinoma. People who first use a tanning bed before age thirty five increase their risk of melanoma
by seventy five percent (Silecchia). In the past, melanoma mostly affected people in their fifties or
older, but today, dermatologists see patients in their twenties and even late teens with this type of
cancer. Experts believe this is caused by an increase in radiation from the use of tanning beds. A
sunburn or intense sun exposure may also increase a person s chances of developing this deadly
cancer. Being in the sun is inevitable, but people can still protect their skin from many forms of skin
cancer by doing the simplest things such as applying sunscreen. Staying out of the sun altogether may
seem like the only answer to avoid this cancer. But who wants to live like a hermit? The key is to
enjoy the sun, but have a balance between sun protection and summer activities like beach volleyball
or building sand castles. Sunscreen blocks the effect of the sun s rays. It is one of the best defenses
against sun damage because it protects an individual without lessening one s comfort and

Disadvantages Of Rural Development
There is a lot of construction work have been carried out in the city. But the development of
construction works in rural areas also increased. This is to explore the rural area which has potential or
ability to become an attraction of our country. There are many advantages in rural development some
of them are increasing in literacy rate, improve in transportation and road facility, water problems are
solved, better improvement in power supply and also improving to live a better life.
http://www.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_advantages_of_rural_development One of the advantages
in rural development is literacy rate is increasing in rural areas. The literacy rate of people in rural
areas is poor if compare to the people who live in city. This is because there is less educational
introduce in the rural areas. The rural areas are lack of educational because they do not have enough
resources to construct educational building such as school. The children in rural areas should study to
gain knowledge and get use of it. So, the advantage of rural development to the population is the
literacy rate increase among the people in rural areas. When there is implementing of construction

use the motorcycle and car as their daily transportation. It is more convenient, easy and safer than
using boat. In short, development of the transportation and road facility in rural area is important and

Physically Abusive Relationships
People who are in abusive relationships intermittently suppress that it is hurting them. Three years
ago, I was one of those people. For a prolonged time I had no notion that I was in an emotionally
abusive relationship with someone, and that it was wrecking my mental health. The relationship
deteriorated me and I was absolutely a changed person at the end of it. I was disgusted with myself,
and nothing made myself cheerful anymore. It took myself a while to distinguish the distortion of my
mood and behavior, and once I did, it was formidable to cut them loose. I was fourteen, plus I
persuaded myself that I loved them. Admitting, I could clearly see that they were toxic for me, it did
not alarm myself. I only wanted to be with them, even if it destroyed me mentally. ... Show more

Comparing Satire In Candide And Gulliver
Fundamentally, the main two characters in these books Voltaire s Candide and Swift s Gulliver s
Travels (Candide and Gulliver) respectively have been used as units or vehicles for satire throughout
the works. It is therefore of paramount importance to note that, Gulliver and Candide serve as ironies
in these books. The books uses simple language but is characterized by irony as shown by the actions,
practices, and behaviors of the characters. Also of importance to note is that, although the author
exposes the two main characters to positions that do not best fit them in terms of their actions, the
reader must be made to understand that the characters remain oblivious and naĂŻve to their
circumstances. According to the nature of the two literature works, I think the reader must be made to
understand that, the two books are used to criticize human weakness by using some names such as
Yahoos and Horse to describe human and the society. In the Voltaire s Candide, the main character is
exposed to all sorts of ridiculous circumstances which excellently work to paint a clear picture of the
intentions of the author who suffered a lot in his life as he was forced to exile in England, and
imprisoned for a long time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Wizard Of Oz Analyse
Conor I thought the Wizard of Oz was a bright and colorful moving. Being a movie that was
transitioning from a black film to color it really emphasized every single color imaginable. All the
colors remind of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Candyland. I like how Emerald city stayed true
to one color to make it unique which was green. It really conveyed to the audience why it was called
Emerald City just of its color scheme alone. I felt bad for the tin man because all that makeup must of
been hard to wear? I loved the color scheme that the wicked Witch of the West had. The dark green
paint on her face and mole really captured the essence of evil. Dorothy really annoyed me in the
movie. Her accent was just awful, and she spoke like a little

Profile of Rorschach in Alan Moore s Watchmen
Who chooses our heroes? Who watches our heroes? Who watches the Watchmen? Over the course of
history, many public figures have been scrutinized for heroic actions that some have deemed
controversial. Charles Darwin dismantled theories of Creationism with his discoveries in evolutionary
biology. President Harry Truman single handedly ended World War
II by authorizing the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, killing thousands upon
thousands of civilians. Gangster John Dillinger stole from banks all across the U.S. Midwest in the
midst of the Great Depression and was heralded by some as a modern day Robin Hood. All of these
figures share a common characteristic concerning their heroic lore: the controversy ... Show more

Even after the public saw them as disturbances to the peace of the city and the government had banned
them, Rorschach continued to serve justice. Heroes will work tirelessly to improve the greater good
even when it comes at a deadly cost to those that stand in their way. To eradicate the world of evil and
corruption is heroic, even when it jeopardizes one s well being and legacy. It is his moral absolutism
that makes Rorschach the purest hero of all the Watchmen.
To fully understand Rorschach, it is imperative to analyze the event that turned him into the fighting
vigilante that he became. During the early hours of March 13, 1964, Kitty Genovese was returning
from her job at a bar when she ran into a killer on the street a mere 100 feet from her apartment. She
was repeatedly stabbed as she yelled out to her neighbors for help; but among the thirty eight
witnesses that heard the commotion and watched the scene from their windows, not one called the
police. Kitty Genovese died from her injuries and the murder has since been thoroughly studied in
social psychology. Her extraordinary case forced the bystander effect into the academic journals and
studies of psychologists. How could there be thirty eight witnesses to this brutal murder and not one of
them informed the police? The bystander effect states that, in stressful situations, individuals are less
likely to offer aid when there are other

Sixth Extinction Research Paper
For as long as the earth has existed, it has gone through remarkable things, and through it all it has
been able to be sustained. First, it was the asteroid, now it is humans. Biologists claim we are in the
age of the sixth extinction; predominantly caused by humans. In this essay, I will be going over how
the destruction of the ecosystem pertains to the sixth extinction caused by industrialization, movement
of species, and human population growth.
Industrialization
Humans have been compared to the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs (National Geographic). The
asteroid scientists claimed killed the dinosaurs was abrupt, and the species of the earth had no idea
about it (National Geographic). This can be compared to the current situation with human s
industrializing the world. Humans have developed innovative ways in how we get objectives
completed. We can freely drive around in vehicles that no one would have ever thought we would
have. We have factories and machines that assist in the construction of homes, buildings, and modern
society. This affects the killing of the ozone layers and the environment of animals.
Movement of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The more the earth population grows the more resources that are required such as natural resources.
The more the human population expands, the less that animals will have places to inhabit that are truly
wild. Growing human populations have led to increased demand for natural resources, and with a
current world population of more than seven billion people, our demands, many of which require
environmentally damaging practices to fulfill, will continue to grow (NPR).
Conclusion
In conclusion, human activity has led to what scientists have considered the sixth extinction, the sixth
extinction relates to the depletion of ecosystems. Some of the three ways this boils down to is
industrialization, movement of species, and human population

Disadvantage Of Vedic Multiplier

multipliers are effective in many applications. The system depended throughput of multiplier and a

VEDIC MULTIPLIER
The Vedic mathematics applicable over complex calculation, it reduces the typical calculation into a
very simple one. This is so because the Vedic formulae are claimed to be based on the natural
principles on which the human mind works. Vedic Mathematics is a methodology of arithmetic rules
that allow more efficient speed implementation. It also provides some effective algorithms which can
be applied to various branches of engineering such as computing.
1) UrdhvaTiryakbhyam Sutra
The Vedic multiplier is depends on the UrdhvaTiryagbhyam sutra (algorithm). These Sutras have been
traditionally used for the multiplication of two numbers in the decimal number system. In this work,
we apply the same ideas to the binary number system to make the proposed algorithm compatible with
the digital hardware. It is a general multiplication formula applicable to all cases of multiplication. It
literally means Vertically and Crosswise . It is based on a novel concept through which the generation
of all partial products can be done with the concurrent addition of these partial products. The
algorithm can be generalized for n x n bit number. Since the partial products and their sums are
calculated in parallel, the multiplier is independent of the clock frequency of the processor. Due to its
regular structure, it can be easily layout in microprocessors and designers can easily circumvent these
problems to avoid catastrophic device failures. The processing power of multiplier can easily be
increased by increasing the input and output data bus widths since it has a quite a regular structure.
Due to its regular structure, it can be easily layout in a silicon chip. The Multiplier based on this sutra
has the advantage that as the number of bits increases, gate delay and area increases very slowly as
compared to other conventional

An Analysis of The Thurber Carnival Essay
An Analysis of The Thurber Carnival
The Fables for Our Time contained in Thurber s The Thurber Carnival are, in my opinion, particularly
good examples of a writer successfully breaking frames in order to create humor and satire. In this
essay I am going to explore the main methods Thurber uses to create humor and satire in the fables
The Shrike and the Chipmunks and The Unicorn in the Garden 2.
Firstly though, what do I mean by the broken frame ? This is a reference to the idea that the violation
of our frames of reference , and the recognition of the incongruity caused by it, is the basic element of
humour. If the incongruity needs to be explained, the humour will be lost. Kant expresses this idea
when he says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be sure, the female chipmunk had not been gone three nights before the male had to dress for a
banquet and could not find his studs or shirt or suspenders.5
Both of these fables are part of the twist in the tale tradition. They lead the reader into expecting one
type of ending and then provide another, in this case in order to create a humour.
In The Shrike and the Chipmunks , the lady chipmunk espouses all of those old wives sayings that are
generally considered to be commonsensical. You can t be healthy if you lie in bed all day and never
get any exercise, the chipmunk wife tells her husband6. The irony here is that by being forced from his
bed the male chipmunk becomes the prey of a shrike. Thurber s twist is that we tend to believe that the
wife s advice is right early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise , but in the
chipmunks case, following this maxim was a death warrant.
The moral at the end provides the final laugh. It is in fact an altered version of the maxim quoted
above. Early to rise and early to bed makes a male healthy wealthy and dead. 7 It is the familiarity of
the one, compared with the changed emphasis of the other, that breaks the frame of our experience and
provokes our laughter. This is a satirical laugh. The new version of the maxim exposes the unthinking
trust we put in a lot of sayings deserved or not.
The Unicorn in the Garden has a similar

The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights
With the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), the concept of human rights has gradually
become one of the most commonly accepted universal norms, referred to in United Nations
resolutions, national constitutions and regional and international treaties. Even so, human rights
violations occur on an almost daily basis in countries around the world. The term seems to be at the
forefront of contemporary political discourses, with its meaning at most times remaining unclear. In
theory, human rights serve the sole purpose of protecting the inherent dignity of all representatives of
the human family (UDHR 1948) However, there is much disagreement when it comes to theoretically
justifying that each human being has rights by virtue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will then serve as a basis for my main argument that human rights are socially constructed and do
not exist outside of the realm of politics. This will then feed into the second part of the question where
I shall discuss the prioritisation of community values over an alleged universal foundation.
Structure
The first part of the essay will concern itself with a more genealogical approach by looking at early
philosophical origins of human rights and how these evolved over the years. With this I seek to outline
the fact that while efforts to institutionalise human rights were initially a reaction towards global
injustice and oppression, in contemporary politics they are used to create power relations, and
implicitly, inequality. This will provide a good basis for the second part in which I will look at the
incompatibilities within the theory religion versus Rawls consensus based theory. Analysing the
multitude of frameworks with their different ways of approaching and grounding rights underlines and
reinforces the fact that there can t be a universal foundation for human rights. The third part will deal
with the fact that trying to ground rights into one universal foundation creates an exclusion of those
who are different and how we can seek to move away from this problem.
Natural Law and Natural Rights
The origin of the modern rights discourse is that of natural law dating back to antiquity. Plato was one
of the first advocates for a universal

Violence And Death In Romeo And Juliet
Is Romeo and Juliet a Shakesperian play full of love at first sight or just rash and consequential
decisions? In this play we meet two star crossed lovers who meet at a party on one night and then,
almost instataneously, plegde themselves for each other and plan to marry, which then leads to six
people dying including themselves. Romeo and Juliet should have taken it slow with their affairs in
order to eliminate the violence and death that ensued from them falling in love, encourage a healthier
road to peace in order to unite both families, and to better encourage a more joyful relationship, as
mentioned by Friar Lurence. Juliet and Romeo s love at first sight isn t as sweet as it first seems, as it
leads into their own and three other character s,Tybalt, Paris, Lady Montague and Mercutio, deaths. O
Romeo, Romeo, brave Mercutio s dead!...This shall determine that .They fight; TYBALT falls (I,i,78

Artificial Heart
Coronary heart disease, one of the most pervasive diseases, has influenced millions of individuals
around the globe. In 1995, 4000 patients waited for donor hearts and 731 of them died waiting (ijates).
As the number of patients suffering from heart disease increased, the demand for donor hearts
increased along with it. For this reason, it has brought biomedical engineers and researchers closer to
developing devices like defibrillators and artificial hearts that may alleviate patients pain. Artificial
heart transplant machines are now reliable treatment options for heart failure. These machines are
utilized as a substitute until a donor organ can be found. Statistics show that this method has resulted
in an improvement of survival rate of 80% (Martin Struber). Although artificial hearts are costly and

Now that we have a language for the computer to understand, and we saw how much code is needed

strings in a timely manner? The computer s CPU or central processing unit does just that. The CPU is
a little chip that does a big job. It takes all of the binary code for a program and shoots it out onto the

Animals Condition To The Environment
Different types of animals are adapted to the environment. It explains why people need to use
furnaces, heated blankets, and other devices to survive the freezing cold winter, animals live through
the four seasons especially winter even if the temperature is several degrees below zero. Mike
Konrath, the director of Sagawau Environmental Learning Center in Lemont, explained that animals
have lived in the harsh environment for thousands of years. But Konrath acknowledges that some
birds die, particularly when the barometer dips below zero like what happened on Monday night.

He said that as long as the birds can find food, the avian is pretty good, but when there is snow on the
ground, a lot of the natural food is covered. Fish Cold blooded fish beat the birds when it comes to
surviving the cold. The marine creatures can survive in water even if the temperature goes down to 37
or 38 degrees, Konrath said, The Chicago Tribune reported. The fish does not bulk up throughout
winter but instead slow things down by eating only when it can. The fish can adjust to the temperature
around them, Konrath said. Half of the sunlight that gets into the water is removed every time an inch
of snow covers a lake. It cuts down the amount of photosynthesis by algae which make oxygen levels
lower. Frogs and turtles, meanwhile, hibernate by burying themselves in the mud and not doing
anything during winter. But in the case of the tree frog, the creature has an antifreeze property in its
blood which keeps the frog s cells from getting damaged, allowing the animal to survive regardless of
how cold the weather is. Constant feeding of mammals Among mammals, especially the shrew which
is the smallest mammal in North America, it has the toughest time during winter. Due to its small body
size, there is no way the animal can store fat so it has to feed constantly throughout the day and night
or it will die because of its very high metabolism. Konrath said that rabbits burrow during winter
under the snow where it stays a lot warmer than outside. But

Summary Of The Wretched Of The Earth
It is a well known fact that the relationship between the Canadian government and the indigenous
people is a very fragile one seeing how dark the history between them are with the first nations losing
a great chuck of their land to their children being ripped away from their family s and sent to
residential school a topic is that avoid by both side of the political struggles between these two
nations. So it is not surprising that the indigenous people are tired of the government ignoring them
and dragging their feet in their fight for self government and equality and empty promises about
reconciliation that in the long run prove to be only political talks to rack in voters. In The Wretched of

history is one that has been documented on more than one occasions so the requesting of consultation
and study is one that isn t necessary in fact, the settler is right when he speaks of knowing them well.
For it is the settler who brought the native into existence and who perpetuates his existence. The
settler owes the fact of his very existence, that is to say, his property, to the colonial system. (Fanon,
1963). The settler to whom fanon refers to is the coloniser them self. Before the era of colonisation
most of the native s history was based down by word from generation to generation and was depicted
on wall of caves, however with the arrival of the colonisers, native history was recorded in a more
permeant fashion. Making the world know about the existence of these natives for year to come. This
history was thought to each new generations both native and other Canadian citizen. So the
government call for studying is merely their way of avoiding or extending the time they have to deal

Language and Literacy
EDKL102 Assessment Task 1
Essay What is Language? What is Literacy? How are they different?
Teachers must have a sound knowledge and appreciation for language and literacy to be able to make
the two concepts a valuable part of a student s curriculum.
This essay will explore the importance of language and literature in a students learning and how they
assist in enhancing their development. Most importantly the similarities and differences will be
distinguished so that the relationship between the two can be understood. Defining both language and
literacy as different entities, but also closely linked concepts, allows readers to bridge together their
affiliation when taught to children in a classroom environment. We can see literacy ... Show more

Vygotsky believed that by the time a child enters school, they use language not only for
communicative purposes, but also for thinking and planning (Daniels at el, 2007 pg.138).
Literacy is control of secondary use of language. It can be seen as being able to apply language to use
, function and control . We all use language everyday; however literacy is the act of applying our
knowledge of language. We use language to produce a range of modes for different purposes and
audiences. Literacy is used to develop language and use it, for practical and purposeful situations and
work. There is little use for possessing the knowledge of language if we cannot use and apply it in our
everyday lives to gain knowledge and understanding (Kervin 2010).
As educators, we must be aware that our knowledge of literacy and how we convey it to our children
is an essential and ongoing process that is constantly adapting. The importance of applying the student
s knowledge of language to literacy is crucial as it plays a crucial part in a child s education,
development and life skills. If a child cannot apply their language skills to literacy they will find it

My Vacation Without A Bicycle Essay
Once upon a time, when I was 12 years old, during a summer vacation, I had a desire to own a bicycle.
My parents did not fulfil my desire. They thought it was an invitation for trouble and accidents. My
father who was an officer in Indian Army would always heed to my request with demur. If I rebelled
or tried any of my childish tantrums at home, he would greet me with a rod. There was nothing that I
could do to improve the probability to own a bicycle.
Summer vacation without a bicycle made my life less enjoyable. During this time, my friends would
assemble to ride around the neighbourhood with their bicycles as a happy lot. Since I did not own a
bicycle, I would wait patiently for my friend Vinay to be tired. Once he is tired, he would ... Show

The day I could ride to school in bicycle had finally dawned. I woke up early, polished my bicycle,

Raskolnikov Foil
Gentry Hale
Raskolnikov is a proud and intellectual man who believes that he is extraordinary enough to break all
social rules and moral standards if he thinks that it will further humanity. Sonia is a shy and timorous
girl who is a devout Christian and is so dedicated to her family that she is willing to do anything to
help them. Sonia s humility and meekness help Raskolnikov to realize that he may not be as
remarkable as he believes. Fyodor Dostoevsky uses Sonia as a foil towards Raskolnikov, in his novel
Crime and Punishment, because she helps him to overcome his pride and confess to his crime. Sonia

The use of coincidence and environment as self justification shows that he feels guilty and needs

means that he must admit to himself that he had done wrong. Instead of feeling disappointment in
himself he will blame his actions on the world around him. Raskolnikov askes Sonia to read him a
passage out of the Bible and she reads him the story of Lazarus. He acts as if he does not believe in the
story, but he is moved by it. The rising of Lazarus from the dead is a parallel to Raskolnikovs
separation from the world. He relates to this story because his pride alienates him from those that love
him. He longs to be like Lazarus and to be reborn, and his pride begins to waiver. When he works up
the humility to confess to Sonia, she offers him a cross. He begins to accept it and then quickly gives
it back. Although he did not take the cross, he considered it. In this instance Raskolnikov was able to
confess to his crime, even if only to Sonia, and he almost accepts her religious offering. She is making

Effects Of Rms On Our Daily Weekly Calls
As RMS has indicated before, based on our observations and more importantly on the review of assets
during our weekly calls with Altisource, RMS believes on many of these assets, the condition or
location of the property is a primary driver behind not only the large reduction in list price, but
ultimately a sales price that will be well below the initial list price, all of which contribute to extended
days on market and an increase in carrying costs incurred by the Trust. We believe a contributor to this
relates to the Altisource process where the listing agent is not always local to the property and may not
have not personally visited the asset to assess the condition and the location, has not driven by the
comps and generally may not be familiar with the intricacies of different neighborhoods in the area.
Lastly, while RMS believes it is important when listing REOs to list above the identified asset value, it
is equally important to recognize when a list price is too high and to make appropriate and timely
adjustments to avoid additional days on market and days in REO. Doing modest reductions, which is
an Altisource philosophy, when indicators (e.g., low offers, lack of offers, no showings) reflect a larger
adjustment is needed increases REO timelines and carrying costs. List price continues to be a frequent
topic during our weekly target assets and RMS raises these issues on an asset level basis, reviewing
activity, property condition, feedback and offers (or lack

Treatment Of Safe Injection Sites
Throughout Canada, many individuals unsafely use illicit substances that may result in disease or even
death. The government has established safe injection sites in order to prevent addicts from spreading
HIV or AIDS and even overdosing. The first safe injection site to be established was built in the
Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, Canada. At first, the site was operated under a waiver from the
federal government that allowed the clinic to provide its services to drug abusers as part of a research
project (Drucker, 2006). Now, based on the research collected, it is apparent that there are both
positive and negatives that have risen from the formation of safe injection sites. Canadian society also

Clearly, safe injection sites are categorized as a type of harm reduction for drug users that ultimately
engage in risky lifestyles. Due to the growing number of drug related deaths and the failure of
prohibition of drug use, activists believed that it was up to them to establish alternate measures of
safety for illegal drug use (MacDonald, 2011). Safe injection sites were established to provide people
who inject drugs with a clean injection environment, sterile injections, and with clean drug preparation
tools such as cookers and water (Semaan et al, 2011). Safe injection sites also allow access for drug
addicts to use the available health care and have medical supervision while taking the illegal substance
(Lavoie, 2015). According to Semaan et al, the overall aim of safe injection sites is to reduce public
injection and the risk of infection with HIV, hepatitis C virus, injection related bacterial infections, and
drug overdose morality (2011). According to Macdonald, in 2009 there were approximately 92 safe
injection sites across the world, most of these safe injection sites operated in European cities (2011).
Within Europe safe injection sites were part of local social services, compared to this, Canada s safe
injection sites are research based experiments that must operate under specific laws or by exemption
status from criminal prohibition (MacDonald, 2011). It is then obvious that in

Self Disclosure Essay example
To disclose or not to disclose?, That question usually comes when you start a new relationship with a
friend, a boy friend, a new job or any new relationship, but disclosing can also happen with people we
have known for a long time or not. Scholars define self disclosure as sharing information with others
that they would not normally know or discover, but I feel like each person has his or her own way of
defining what self closure is. To me, self disclosure is letting myself go and trusting the person I am
disclosing to, it involves risk and vulnerability on my part sharing important information to someone.

relationship where I allowed myself to let go and have someone I can talk to things that I would not

realizations I have on self disclosure is that, it is one way of letting my self go. Letting another human
being know my inner most feelings and my fears. I am a very private person and I tend to not say
much about myself unless I know the person very well. I tend to not to like people who disclose a lot
of information to me mainly if we do not have a very close relationship, because to me that means I
also have to let them in on some of my inner most feelings. I feel like even if they are a lot of

Equity Valuation
INTRODUCTION TO EQUITY VALUATION Equity shares can be described more easily than fixed
income securities. However, they are more difficult to analyse. Fixed income securities typically have
a limited life and a well defined cash flow stream. Equity shares have neither. While the basic
principles of valuation are the same for fixed income securities as well as equity shares, the factors of
growth and risk create greater complexity in the case of equity shares . As our discussion of market
efficiency suggested, identifying mispriced securities is not easy. Yet there are enough chinks in the
efficient market hypothesis and hence the search for mispriced securities cannot be dismissed out of

that is low in calories. The program is targeting to reduce childhood obesity and improve the diet and

decrease in sodium and fats consumption, this program is also favorable among parents because it is a

Of Hospitality By Jacques Derrida
Jacques Derrida created controversy and theories that have influenced philosophy, literature,
linguistics, anthropology and a number of other fields. The scope of his work is so large that some
argue it unreasonable to accept his word as legitimate in0 certain fields. In Of Hospitality, Derrida
describes and brings to the forefront one of the primary issues of cosmopolitan ethics; what is the
appropriate approach to extending and receiving hospitality and what are the implications of such
action? Through an intensive understanding of this work, Derrida eventually reaches the conclusion
that the balance between being absolutely hospitable and conditionally hospitable is completely
necessary. Is it more just and more loving to question or not to question? (Of Hospitality, 29). Each
has the ability to corrupt the other but both are needed in order for hospitality and, in general, socially
responsible behavior.
Why this is important
Hospitality cannot be practically applied without the host establishing some set of limits, but at the
exact time these limits are created, the visitor/guest is put into a position of wanting in freedom. This
is the aporia that Derrida is concerned with. According to Niall Lucy in A Derrida Dictionary; Aporia
is a Greek term denoting a logical contradiction. The word choice here is interesting because
contradiction implies an issue that is resolvable in a certain light as well as being a foundation on
which to build. As Derrida puts

Rutter, in his article, The Interplay of Nature, Nurture and Developmental Influences, further
emphasizes the interplays between nature, nurture and developmental influences to elaborate the
multifactorial connections between the effects of different influences on childhood development. In

As seen in Arnie, genetics disabilities can cause difficulties in certain parts of life, such as language,
learning and independent living. Indirect genetic effects can also occur due to environmental
influences, or gene environmental correlations and interactions. Issues such as depression and
generalized anxiety can influence a person to shape and select their environment, further influencing
other people s responses to them, or the social environment. While some people are more resistant to
psychosocial stresses, others, like Bonnie, are more susceptible, which would explain her depression
after her husband s death and her obesity in response to stress. After her husband s death, Bonnie not

Case Study Of Cranberry Juice
According to Mintel in 2017, Coca Cola, the parent company of Minute Maid, is first in sales of juice
with 17.2% of the market share. PepsiCo, which owns Tropicana, is second in sales with 12.5% of the
market share. Ocean Spray is fourth with 6.4% of the market share. Ocean Spray s considerable
market share in the cranberry juice category indicates that no other companies pose a significant
threat. Instead, Ocean Spray should focus on stimulating primary demand for cranberry juice as
opposed to other types of juice to compete with larger companies that offer a variety of juice products
such as orange juice, lemonade, etc. Although Minute Maid and Tropicana are not specifically in the
cranberry industry, they are Ocean Spray s biggest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to Ocean Spray, they spend the most on Cable Television. The biggest takeaway from this
company is that they spend most of their ad spending capital on magazines, whereas Ocean Spray
eliminated that category all together (Redbooks, 2017). Moreover, Tropicana spends more than double
on advertising than that of Ocean Spray and Minute Maid. Tropicana spent around $64.5 million in
2015 and around $54 million in 2016. Similarly to Ocean Spray, they stopped spending money on
radio and newspaper advertising in 2016. Additionally, Tropicana also spends around $4 million
magazines which is similar to Minute Maid s approach (Redbooks, 2017).
Advertising Agencies: Ocean Spray v. Competitors
Ocean Spray, Minute Maid, and Tropicana all use large agencies to promote their products. According
to Redbooks, Ocean Spray is represented by Zenith, a company who provides them with Digital,
Media, Media Planning, Media Buying, and Social Media services. Minute Maid uses BBDO for its
Broadcasting, Digital, Print, Social, and Creative. And Tropicana combines services from three:
Ogilvy and Mather for print, Doner for Media Buying, and UM NY for Digital, Experiential, and
Social Media services (2017). All three juice companies likely owe a large portion of their popularity
and notability to these agencies.

  • 2. Analyzing The Evangelist Portraits By The Codex Amiatinus Abstracts Nick Baker (Princethorpe College) Putting your Best Foot Forward: Reviewing the Evangelist Portraits in the Codex Amiatinus The Christ in Majesty page (fol. 796v) has attracted a great deal of scholarly attention over the years. Given that it shows Christ flanked by two angels, surrounded by circular bands and enclosed within a jewelled border, there are many elements for the art historian to consider. Unfortunately, the portraits and symbols of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have not been furnished with the attention they so rightly deserve. This paper will revisit these images and attempt to place them into a wider artistic context, thereby suggesting further theological meanings to the contemporary religious. It will also highlight the result of recent photographic work on the page, conducted under ultraviolet light, which has uncovered much more about the design of these portraits than has previously been known. Meg Boulton (University of York) From Cover to Cover: (Re)Presentations of Ecclesia and Eschatology in the Codex Amiatinus This paper considers the illuminated pages of the Codex Amiatinus, the vast and elaborate eighth century manuscript produced in Northumbria intended as a papal gift to Rome, giving particular attention to the Tabernacle diagram, or Temple page of the Codex as it has been variously identified (fols IIv‒IIIr), in the context of the two other miniatures in the manuscript. Differing groups of scholars argue that the conceptually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tanning Bed Research Paper It is that time of the year again, prom season. Teenagers, mostly girls, prepare for weeks prior to this event. People regularly go tanning to make sure they look darker for their special day. A large amount of time, money, and effort goes into getting and keeping tanned skin. In an effort to avoid paleness, people tan to fulfill their need for confidence and beauty. But, everyone seems to avoid thinking about the consequences. Girls want to be tan to have a higher self esteem, even though studies show that tanning is horrible for a person s health. There has been speculation that using a tanning bed is the only harmful method to a person s health, but that is utterly wrong. A tan, whether from a bed, on the beach, or through accidental exposure, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, People who have ever used a tanning bed have a sixty seven percent increased risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma and a twenty nine percent increased risk of developing basal cell carcinoma. People who first use a tanning bed before age thirty five increase their risk of melanoma by seventy five percent (Silecchia). In the past, melanoma mostly affected people in their fifties or older, but today, dermatologists see patients in their twenties and even late teens with this type of cancer. Experts believe this is caused by an increase in radiation from the use of tanning beds. A sunburn or intense sun exposure may also increase a person s chances of developing this deadly cancer. Being in the sun is inevitable, but people can still protect their skin from many forms of skin cancer by doing the simplest things such as applying sunscreen. Staying out of the sun altogether may seem like the only answer to avoid this cancer. But who wants to live like a hermit? The key is to enjoy the sun, but have a balance between sun protection and summer activities like beach volleyball or building sand castles. Sunscreen blocks the effect of the sun s rays. Comparing Satire In Candide And Gulliver Fundamentally, the main two characters in these books Voltaire s Candide and Swift s Gulliver s Travels (Candide and Gulliver) respectively have been used as units or vehicles for satire throughout the works. It is therefore of paramount importance to note that, Gulliver and Candide serve as ironies in these books. The books uses simple language but is characterized by irony as shown by the actions, practices, and behaviors of the characters. Also of importance to note is that, although the author exposes the two main characters to positions that do not best fit them in terms of their actions, the reader must be made to understand that the characters remain oblivious and naĂŻve to their circumstances. According to the nature of the two literature works, I think the reader must be made to understand that, the two books are used to criticize human weakness by using some names such as Yahoos and Horse to describe human and the society. It also provides some effective algorithms which can be applied to various branches of engineering such as computing. 1) UrdhvaTiryakbhyam Sutra The Vedic multiplier is depends on the UrdhvaTiryagbhyam sutra (algorithm). These Sutras have been traditionally used for the multiplication of two numbers in the decimal number system. In this work, we apply the same ideas to the binary number system to make the proposed algorithm compatible with the digital hardware. It is a general multiplication formula applicable to all cases of multiplication. It literally means Vertically and Crosswise . It is based on a novel concept through which the generation of all partial products can be done with the concurrent addition of these partial products. The algorithm can be generalized for n x n bit number. Since the partial products and their sums are calculated in parallel, the multiplier is independent of the clock frequency of the processor. Due to its regular structure, it can be easily layout in microprocessors and designers can easily circumvent these problems to avoid catastrophic device failures. The processing power of multiplier can easily be increased by increasing the input and output data bus widths since it has a quite a regular structure. An Analysis of The Thurber Carnival Essay An Analysis of The Thurber Carnival The Fables for Our Time contained in Thurber s The Thurber Carnival are, in my opinion, particularly good examples of a writer successfully breaking frames in order to create humor and satire. In this essay I am going to explore the main methods Thurber uses to create humor and satire in the fables The Shrike and the Chipmunks and The Unicorn in the Garden 2. Firstly though, what do I mean by the broken frame ? This is a reference to the idea that the violation of our frames of reference , and the recognition of the incongruity caused by it, is the basic element of humour. If the incongruity needs to be explained, the humour will be lost. Kant expresses this idea when he says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be sure, the female chipmunk had not been gone three nights before the male had to dress for a banquet and could not find his studs or shirt or suspenders.5 Both of these fables are part of the twist in the tale tradition. They lead the reader into expecting one type of ending and then provide another, in this case in order to create a humour. In The Shrike and the Chipmunks , the lady chipmunk espouses all of those old wives sayings that are generally considered to be commonsensical. You can t be healthy if you lie in bed all day and never get any exercise, the chipmunk wife tells her husband6. The irony here is that by being forced from his bed the male chipmunk becomes the prey of a shrike. Thurber s twist is that we tend to believe that the wife s advice is right early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise , but in the chipmunks case, following this maxim was a death warrant. The moral at the end provides the final laugh. It is in fact an altered version of the maxim quoted above. Early to rise and early to bed makes a male healthy wealthy and dead. 7 It is the familiarity of the one, compared with the changed emphasis of the other, that breaks the frame of our experience and provokes our laughter. This is a satirical laugh. The new version of the maxim exposes the unthinking trust we put in a lot of sayings deserved or not. The Unicorn in the Garden has a similar ... The term seems to be at the forefront of contemporary political discourses, with its meaning at most times remaining unclear. This will then feed into the second part of the question where I shall discuss the prioritisation of community values over an alleged universal foundation. Structure The first part of the essay will concern itself with a more genealogical approach by looking at early philosophical origins of human rights and how these evolved over the years. With this I seek to outline the fact that while efforts to institutionalise human rights were initially a reaction towards global injustice and oppression, in contemporary politics they are used to create power relations, and implicitly, inequality. This will provide a good basis for the second part in which I will look at the incompatibilities within the theory religion versus Rawls consensus based theory. Analysing the multitude of frameworks with their different ways of approaching and grounding rights underlines and reinforces the fact that there can t be a universal foundation for human rights. The third part will deal with the fact that trying to ground rights into one universal foundation creates an exclusion of those who are different and how we can seek to move away from this problem. We all use language everyday; however literacy is the act of applying our knowledge of language. We use language to produce a range of modes for different purposes and audiences. Literacy is used to develop language and use it, for practical and purposeful situations and work. There is little use for possessing the knowledge of language if we cannot use and apply it in our everyday lives to gain knowledge and understanding (Kervin 2010). As educators, we must be aware that our knowledge of literacy and how we convey it to our children is an essential and ongoing process that is constantly adapting. The importance of applying the student s knowledge of language to literacy is crucial as it plays a crucial part in a child s education, development and life skills. If a child cannot apply their language skills to literacy they will find it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. My Vacation Without A Bicycle Essay Once upon a time, when I was 12 years old, during a summer vacation, I had a desire to own a bicycle. My parents did not fulfil my desire. They thought it was an invitation for trouble and accidents. My father who was an officer in Indian Army would always heed to my request with demur. If I rebelled or tried any of my childish tantrums at home, he would greet me with a rod. There was nothing that I could do to improve the probability to own a bicycle. Summer vacation without a bicycle made my life less enjoyable. During this time, my friends would assemble to ride around the neighbourhood with their bicycles as a happy lot. Sonia is a shy and timorous girl who is a devout Christian and is so dedicated to her family that she is willing to do anything to help them. Sonia s humility and meekness help Raskolnikov to realize that he may not be as remarkable as he believes. Instead of feeling disappointment in himself he will blame his actions on the world around him. Raskolnikov askes Sonia to read him a passage out of the Bible and she reads him the story of Lazarus. He acts as if he does not believe in the story, but he is moved by it. The rising of Lazarus from the dead is a parallel to Raskolnikovs separation from the world. He relates to this story because his pride alienates him from those that love him. He longs to be like Lazarus and to be reborn, and his pride begins to waiver. When he works up the humility to confess to Sonia, she offers him a cross. He begins to accept it and then quickly gives it back. Although he did not take the cross, he considered it. • 27. Effects Of Rms On Our Daily Weekly Calls As RMS has indicated before, based on our observations and more importantly on the review of assets during our weekly calls with Altisource, RMS believes on many of these assets, the condition or location of the property is a primary driver behind not only the large reduction in list price, but ultimately a sales price that will be well below the initial list price, all of which contribute to extended days on market and an increase in carrying costs incurred by the Trust. We believe a contributor to this relates to the Altisource process where the listing agent is not always local to the property and may not have not personally visited the asset to assess the condition and the location, has not driven by the comps and generally may not be familiar with the intricacies of different neighborhoods in the area. Lastly, while RMS believes it is important when listing REOs to list above the identified asset value, it is equally important to recognize when a list price is too high and to make appropriate and timely adjustments to avoid additional days on market and days in REO. Doing modest reductions, which is an Altisource philosophy, when indicators (e.g., low offers, lack of offers, no showings) reflect a larger adjustment is needed increases REO timelines and carrying costs. List price continues to be a frequent topic during our weekly target assets and RMS raises these issues on an asset level basis, reviewing activity, property condition, feedback and offers (or lack ... Clearly, safe injection sites are categorized as a type of harm reduction for drug users that ultimately engage in risky lifestyles. Due to the growing number of drug related deaths and the failure of prohibition of drug use, activists believed that it was up to them to establish alternate measures of safety for illegal drug use (MacDonald, 2011). Safe injection sites were established to provide people who inject drugs with a clean injection environment, sterile injections, and with clean drug preparation tools such as cookers and water (Semaan et al, 2011). Safe injection sites also allow access for drug addicts to use the available health care and have medical supervision while taking the illegal substance (Lavoie, 2015). According to Semaan et al, the overall aim of safe injection sites is to reduce public injection and the risk of infection with HIV, hepatitis C virus, injection related bacterial infections, and drug overdose morality (2011). The scope of his work is so large that some argue it unreasonable to accept his word as legitimate in0 certain fields. In Of Hospitality, Derrida describes and brings to the forefront one of the primary issues of cosmopolitan ethics; what is the appropriate approach to extending and receiving hospitality and what are the implications of such action? Through an intensive understanding of this work, Derrida eventually reaches the conclusion that the balance between being absolutely hospitable and conditionally hospitable is completely necessary. Is it more just and more loving to question or not to question? (Of Hospitality, 29). Each has the ability to corrupt the other but both are needed in order for hospitality and, in general, socially responsible behavior. Why this is important Hospitality cannot be practically applied without the host establishing some set of limits, but at the exact time these limits are created, the visitor/guest is put into a position of wanting in freedom. This is the aporia that Derrida is concerned with. According to Niall Lucy in A Derrida Dictionary; Aporia is a Greek term denoting a logical contradiction. The word choice here is interesting because contradiction implies an issue that is resolvable in a certain light as well as being a foundation on which to build. As Derrida puts ...
