Heroes Research Assignment The definition of a hero is someone who is idolized or admired for their
courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Real life heroes are exactly that. These
outstanding people are recognized for the good in the world that they have helped to accomplish. A
person who represents these qualities is Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio. As an award winning actor and
an avid environmentalist, he has had an influential role in not only entertaining people but also helping
the environment. Leonardo DiCaprio was born in Los Angeles, California on November 11, 1974
making him 42 years old. He is an only child of Irmelin George DiCaprio. His parents divorced when

Paper Mache Research Paper
Art is perhaps the best way on the planet to show and describe feelings. For many people art is
nothing but color on paper, but in truth it is so much more. To be able to properly understand a work
of art, which could be a sculpture, painting, drawing etc. You must first be able to understand how the
artist has expressed themselves. So we are going to take this one step at a time and look at one of the
most popular type of sculpture. Paper mache. Paper mache comes from the combination of French
syllables, papier mache meaning chewed paper. The art form gets its name from it s wet, soggy
appearance. The composite material can be made from paper or pulp. In Ancient Egypt, many of the
facemasks and caskets were made from crushed up papyrus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For those of you who don t know what a pinata is, it is basically a paper mache animal or toy that you
hollow out and fill with candy. Then you put on a blindfold and hit it with a bat until the candy comes
out. This tradition first originated from Spain except you would fill the pinata with toys or other small
trinkets instead of candy.
For those of you who are new to art. It is not easy. Frustration can be very common, especially when
you sculpt in paper mache. I have done paper mache before and know it to be very unforgiving if you
make a mistake. A couple examples of things you want to avoid are: thin spots on your project, (cave
in s), Not too much solution, (Can wreck your base), And painting before your sculpture is dry.
Like I said at the start of this essay. Art is a wonderful way to express yourself in many ways: visual,
photographic, sculpting (3D) etc. but one thing everyone must keep in mind is that no piece of art is
perfect. If you make a mistake that is just fine, you are not a professional. And if you are, well good
for you. But what I am trying to say is that not just anyone can fully grasp or understand art. As all my
teachers say. It s okay not to know, however it isn t okay not to

No company can achieve full potentials without some form of planning. Companies of high worth and
value have effective and efficient planning in place to create harmony by aligning functions. In
addition, planning can reduce confusing and fraustion throughout an organizations by providing
benchmarks from achievable milestones. One fracture of planning for companies is events. Some
events are conferences, seminars, parties. The events allows companies to grow and develop for many
different reasons and purposes. The events require some organization of the announcement of the
events. After events have been planned and announced, a follow up system must be in place to

into a modularity of health, which is a scope aim at medication, nutrition, and grooming to improve
stock or system function. In addition, boundaries are form with components in the system Love.
Boundaries are defined as all the component contained for the system limits, which separate the
system from other system. The boundaries influence the system. The system Love can be separated
from the system payroll because of the purpose in the system s function to the system s environment.
The purpose of Love forms boundaries based on standards, scope, environment, and resources. In
other words, it is the point of interface with a system that develops into boundaries. The interface is
the point at which a system meets its environment or where subsystems meet each others. However,
the objectives to the system Love can be changes within the component of that function to the system
or outside of that function to the system because the interface of objectives is operations and input
process. For example,

The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan
The Omnivore s Dilemma Summary The main idea of The Omnivore s Dilemma, by Michael Pollan,
is to make the reader aware of where his food comes from, and what goes into his food. Pollan does
this by breaking the book into four different types of meals: the industrial and processed meal
consisting of food produced in factories or grown on large scale farms, the organic meal created on
industrial farms, the grass fed meal made of meat and produce created on mindful and smaller farms,
and finally the meal containing food gathered, hunted, or grown by the person who will consume it.
Pollan starts by explaining the origin of corn in Mexico and southwestern North America. He visited
George Naylor, an industrial corn farmer living in Iowa, at his farm to learn about the dominating
industry. Since corn is one of the cheapest sources of calories, and is so abundant, scientists have
modified it into just about every different form they can to make more use out of it. Corn is now used
to feed cattle, which are physically designed to eat meat. Corn fed beef contains more saturated fat
than grass fed beef, making it exceedingly unhealthy. Pollan also talks about the harsh lives of animals

Pollan contrasts the processed food produced on factory farms with Polyface Farm, a small farm in
western Virginia where all of the organisms that produce food there coexist in a mutualistic
relationship. The grass feeds the cows, while the cows actually encourage the growth of the grass.
Chickens eat insects from the waste of the cows, producing rich eggs. The owner of Polyface Farm,
Joel Salatin, has mastered this way of farming by harnessing the natural benefits of producing a
variety of species together. Pollan also participated in the process of slaughtering chickens on Polyface
Farm, which is much smaller and less routine than on factory

To Kill A Mocking Bird Analysis
There was more to the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, than let on. The book had symbols and little
lessons. One of those symbols, would be the Mockingbird. The mockingbird is a symbol of innocence.
Although the mockingbird has only mentioned a few times in the story, it was still an important
animal. The people of Maycomb find it a sin to kill a mockingbird. The bird doesn t do anything
destructive. Therefore it does not deserve to die. A mockingbird is a symbol of some and just a bird for
others. Those who believe it is a symbol tend to be upstanding and are more enjoyable, those who don
t care for the bird, tend to not be as pleasant.
A mockingbird is a symbol. It is a symbol of innocence. Atticus and Miss Maudie both believe that

Miss Maudie, is an exceedingly kind person. She is kind to everyone. She believes that killing a
Mockingbird is a sin, she also believes that Mockingbirds are innocent birds. In the story, there are
several people that are amusing and kind, but unfortunately, there are also people that aren t so
delightful. Atticus and Miss Maudie are one of the marvelous people. They both happen to believe that
killing a Mockingbird is a sin. The readers can visualize what the moral values are of the two
characters. The sin of killing a mockingbird was probably a saying that was passed down and told to
children for generations. Since the Mockingbird represents innocence, Atticus and Miss Maudie are
basically saying that it is a sin to cast down an innocent person or animal. That kind of activity forms
socially agreeable moral values. Those noble moral values construct people like Atticus and Miss
Maudie undoubtedly charming people. Their moral values build Atticus and Miss Maudie to become
who they are in the book. Someone like Bob Ewell would be one of the people who look at the
Mockingbird as just another bird. In the story, He is an antagonist kind of. His character shows how
different his moral values are from Atticus and Miss Maudie s. Some people notice the Mocking as

Crazed Fruit Essay
What are the foundations of any film? The foundations of a film are nothing technical, but the time
and thought that goes into them are what makes a film. These foundations are the lights, scenery, plot,
camera techniques, and of course the actors. What really makes a film is the selection of actors the
director picks. Yes, all the other foundations are important, but the character choice is what makes a
film. In Nakahira s film Crazed Fruit, he choice actress Mie Kitahara to play a youthful young female
character named Eri. Eri portrays a character that is a carefree, young, beautiful female, who does not
care who she hurts in order to be happy. In the film Crazed Fruit, Eri is part of a postwar generation
called taiyozoku, meaning Sun Tribe. This generation is described to be young, rich, with plenty of
free time. Eri embodies all the traits that Japan s postwar youth embodied. The only problem is that
Japan s new conservative government feared that parents would be absent. This allows them access to
excess of money, leisure time, and time for sexual activity. Before the war there were none of these
problems, and the reason for them is because of Western habits being introduced. ... Show more

and how she acts is all influenced by Westernization, creating a new generation in Japan. This making

Nobody Knows Sparknotes
Making jokes is the best way for people to create connections. However, a person s sense of humor
makes a huge difference in joking telling because jokes can offend people and has various
consequences. Making jokes about people is common between friends because a man can understand
that his friend only wants to get a couple laughs out of him and that his joke shouldn t be taken to
heart. In the short story Nobody Knows, a man, who clearly has not mastered English, comes up to a
random man asking him to explain a fight to a nearby cop. When the man says, Tell the cop that guys

The kid throws a punch at the man and a ten second fight breaks out. The way everything played out,
the man started the fight because the kid could have interpreted the joke has the man insulting his art
skills. Another reason why the man is at fault is that he didn t even know the person so why would he
make a joke about his dick for? Plus, talking about dick does lead to fights at times, depending on how
people throw the word dick around. After the ten second round ends, the man finds the stranger to help
him explain the situation to the nearby cop. If I was the cop, the first thing I would tell the man is, Sir,
please learn how to speak and write English properly because you sound like a kid trying to read a
physics textbook. And second of all, why would you hit a kid with a bottle if he tried to punch you?
The man could have easily done serious damage to the kid and risk going to jail over a dick joke. Not
to mention that he s older than the kid and he s the one telling the kid a dick joke. As the cop, all I
would need to say is, You re a grown man and what comes to your mind is telling a dick joke to some
kid you ve never

Review Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Stories about quests are common tales told throughout history and in many different cultures. All
quest stories follow the same pattern and have the same archetypes. The first stage in a quest is the call
to adventure or the protagonist s separation from his or her daily life. The next stage is the , threshold
stage. After threshold is initiation or loss and the final stages are, the ultimate boon and return. Within
every quest, there is also some lesson to be learned by the protagonist. The Epic of Gilgamesh, a story
written thousands of years ago by the ancient Sumerians, follows the same archetypes as any modern
day quest story. Gilgamesh begins his quest when he is separated from his normal life in Uruk and

This first stage shows shows a lot about ancient Sumerian spiritual culture. First, it shows that the
ancient Sumerians were a polytheistic society. Their creator god is a female which shows that females
were respected enough to hold a position of power. This was most likely because they can create life.
Their belief system in gods and goddesses also shows that people believed that the gods could change
their society and the daily lives of people. However, Enkidu and Gilgamesh unintended friendship also
shows that the ancient Sumerians believed that their deities couldn t control every facet of life. As the
epic continues, Gilgamesh and Enkidu succeed on their mission to kill the demon Humbaba. Humbaba

Relationship Between Fig Trees And Wasps
The article Fig trees and wasps depend on each other is an article by Ann Auerbach. The article is
about the relationship fig trees and wasps have. According to the article, wasps and fig trees have co
evolved to mutually benefit each other. The fig is a plant with a gourd like flower called a synconium.
Inside it are tiny fig flowers that can either be male or female. They cannot mate because they mature
at different times. The wasp, a small insect with a short life span depends on that synconium for her
reproduction. The female first enters the synconium through a pin sized hole, often losing her wings in
the process. She lays her eggs, one per flower, then dies. The male wasps, are the first to hatch. They
inseminate the female eggs, before

Narrative Essay On High School Basketball
My freshman year of high school basketball was almost coming to an end. Our record was pretty
stellar, and we needed one more win to get the wildcard, which meant we would automatically make it
to state. My team was playing against Malcolm, in a really tight game. We were down by two points
and Coach Henkel put me in to shoot a three pointer, but both of our hopes and dreams were short
lived. I missed the shot, and I lost the game for us. I was devastated, and so was everyone else. As I sat
in the locker room, all I could do was stare at the ground. The only thing running through my mind
was, no one is going to trust me with the ball anymore or worse yet, everyone is going to be mad at
me. These thoughts were slowly tearing me down, day by day. But that was until Coach Henkel talked
to me, and told me not to worry about missing the shot. He told me everyone misses, and that he wasn
t to worried. So, I was given two options, dwell on the past and let that affect my playing, or forget
about it and move on.
I have been given multiple opportunities where not dwelling on the past has come into play. In the
eighth grade I helped someone cheat on a test, and got caught. Yes, it was a bad decision and I have
definitely learned from it. I had to serve a detention and then always thought that Mr. Sass was going
to hate me forever. But I didn t dwell on what happened and learned from my mistakes. I had to learn
to move on because the past was the past. Thinking about the mistake I had

The world of contemporary dance is one that is constantly developing and pushing the boundaries of
what makes dance more than just movement. However, it is questionable that it would be in this

could be argued that Merce Cunningham was a pioneering, revolutionary choreographer who
questioned given standards and procedures creating the diverse contemporary style that we know
today. Revolutionary can be defined as something radically new or innovative; outside or beyond
established procedure and principles (Dictionary.com, 2017). In order for something to be

Short Term Significance Of The Education Act 1870
Part A
What in your view was the short term significance of The Education Act 1870?
The 1870 Education Act highlighted inequality in the school system between genders not only in the
class room but in the running of schools. This obviously led to a lot of change for the role and status
of women in the 1870 s and early 20th century, including creating a political identity, proving women
s ability to work well in politics, and creating an educated generation ready for further radical change.
The short term significance of the 1870 Education Act can be seen in the political impact and the
changes to equality within areas of politics, by introducing School Boards. School boards started or

Garret. Elizabeth Garrett stood for the first School Board election in November 1870 and continued to
serve until her death, showing the significance of having educated women as a part of the education
system and the impact they can have when given the opportunity. In her book Women s Suffrage

Responsibility In Animal Farm
And so almost before they knew what was happening, the rebellion had been successfully carried
through: Jones was expelled, and the Manor Farm was theirs. this quote from the novel Animal Farm
represents when during the russian revolution riots broke out in Russia because of Tsar s unjust rule.
Tsar(The Emperor of russia before 1917) was forced to abdicate. Tsar was a very unfair leader (just
like Mr.jones) and Russia s minorities became hard to control under his domination. When his brother
(Michael Alexandrovich) refused to rule, over 300 years of Romanov dynasty ended. In animal farm
the author George Orwell uses persuasiveness of the leaders and gullibility of the followers to
contribute to theme:loss of freedom and equality in order to show even after the revolution animal
farm fell back into tyranny, dictatorship, inequality ,and subservience.
Although the animals at Manor Farm had a revolution they quickly fell right back into tyranny which
led to loss of freedom and equality. After Mr. Jones was expelled two pigs Snowball and Napoleon
became the leaders of the farm. Soon after the revolution Napolean expelled Snowball! Unfortunately
Napoleon did not have the animal s best interest at heart. Three hens who had been the ringleaders in
the attempted rebellion over the eggs now came forward and stated that snowball had appeared to
them in a dream, and incited them to disobey Napoleon s orders. They too were slain on the spot.
When the animals expelled Mr. Jones they

Characteristics Of Authoritarianism In Zimbabwe
Authoritarianism is a form of government ruled by a single person or a small group and limited
political freedom or individual freedom. Its characteristics included government held individual
freedom, limited political freedom, and prevented political opponents and anti regime activity.
However, most of authoritarian government were different from one another because some allowed
more and some allowed less freedom. Noticeably, Zimbabwe is a country which is being ruled by
authoritarian government of Robert Mugabe. Zimbabwe geographically located in Southern Africa; in
addition, it is bordered by Zambia in the north, Mozambique in the east, Botswana in the West, and

Becoming A First Generation College Student
I have always been my own motivator and it has not always been easy. Being a first generation college
student meant going it on my own, making mistakes and learning from them. At the start of my
college adventure I met Professor Michelle Field who introduced me to more than my love of
Anthropology, but looking back she is now my inspiration to want to teach Anthropology. This was
not something I knew coming into college, but some of the greatest things in life come together when
you least expect them, you just have to be flexible. Moving to Bellingham to finish my undergraduate
degree came at the most difficult time in my life only days after losing a parent, but Western
Washington University became my new home and offered the fresh start I needed and the opportunity
to continue to develop as a student that I so deeply craved.
Getting to this point in my academic career has been a balancing act. I spent most of my time as a part
time student earning my Associates while working full time. Getting the most out of my education was
always my primary goal and it meant working hard and managing my time well. I graduated with
Faculty Honors and am currently progressing towards graduating Cum Laude at Western. I was able to
not only take a heavy course load, but manage it well and remained flexible and grounded in the
reality of what I could handle. Determined to expand my knowledge I wanted to not only to take a
variety of courses during early undergraduate work, but as I

Steps that Lead to the Revolutionary War
Independence from Britain did not come easily. It took many years and battles to break off the
colonies from Britain. Many desires drove the colonies to a violent war, and it all started with the
following: In 1763, a peace treaty had just been signed. This was called the Peace of Paris which
ended a long series of costly conflicts between Britain and France during the French and Indian wars.
Because France had lost, they were forced to give all the American territory to Great Britain. After
Great Britain took control of the region, King George III did not want to fight another war in America
so he forbid colonial settlement on the western lands. This was called the Proclamation line of 1763.
This proclamation angered many colonies since they believed that a king who ruled across the ocean
could not determine the colonist needs and had no right to limit where they could settle. This was the
beginning of many troubles in the colonies. It was not until 1764 when Britain started to interfere with
the colonies. The colonies had some independence so they were not used to being told what to do.
Because the British government had gone in debt fighting France, they decided that the colonies had
to help pay for their own defense. To raise this money, parliament made a new law, sugar act. It
required payment of a tariff on imported items such as molasses, sugar, coffee and certain wines.
During this time, tariffs were used to regulate trade; however, the colonist felt this was just

The Madoff Case Hickery
Investing in the market or different ventures are an opportunity for many American citizens to acquire
wealth, separate from the income earned from a salaried job. Regardless of whether an individual has
$10,000 or $1 million, there are opportunities to invest in a range of sources where returns on
investments can be either in the long term or short term. There is opportunity to invest in traditional
sources like Gold or recent popular stocks such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. In those cases
the returns were ten fold and the original investors believe in the success of the product in the long
term. Individuals who chose not to invest but to sell products to make a secondary source of income.

The most obvious problem with detecting is no one in a part of the scheme is willing to do due
diligence and internal reporting. The values of a company are an important indicator of the practices
which benefits all participants as a whole(shareholders, employees, public). Companies that promote
Corporate Social Responsibility believe that disclosure and transparency are just as important as
profits. Firms that stake a claim in CSR view their responsibilities as extending to a wide variety of
disclosures and social reporting (e.g., the triple bottom line social, environmental, and financial;

financial information and reporting, helps shareholders as well as regulators determine whether or not
there is illegal activity within the company. There can be a growing trust of financial institutions from
shareholders, regulators and the public if more companies practice corporate social responsibility on a
consistent basis. For example, if Bernie Madoff had to disclose all of his reports to investors and

Women Spies in the American Civil War
With over a half million deaths the most gruesome war in American history drove citizens to action.
The suffering during this era was so great many were inspired by nationalism to act. For those who
were unable to join the fight upon the battlefield, espionage represented a chance for personal
involvement. Although it is believed that many agents never sought recognition for their service,
especially Confederate scouts, documentation depicts the espionage present during the American Civil
War to be surprisingly sophisticated. By examining the recorded history involving active female
intelligence agents in the American Civil War, we can see the roles of female scouts were severely
underestimated, frequently encouraged, and generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, some women enlisted in the armies disguised as males, others found they could
contribute their service to the war through acting as scouts. For those women that enlisted, changing
their dress was only a small fraction of the work required to blend in to their brigade. Hiding all
feminine characteristics including the ways, in which they walked, talked, sat, and acted was
necessary to avoid detection (Eggleston 2). An abundance of radical periodicals and writings intended
for a female audience emerged at the beginning of the war (Endres 32). With ample encouragement
women found it within their interests to take an active role in the fight. Some, including Elizabeth Van
Lew, simply desired for the feuding between the regions to end and found espionage to be their
contribution (Kane 235). In Companions of Crisis: The Spy Memoir as a Social Document , Curtis
Carroll Davis depicts the female scouts perceiving their duty to their country to be through espionage.
Surprisingly, men, including fathers and other patriarchal figures, actively sought the help of their
female kin to play an active role in the war through espionage. For instance, the father of Antonia Ford
encouraged his daughter to entertain and extract information from Union officers on behalf of the
Confederate cause (Eggleston 97). The passion for liberty was undoubtedly just as

Setting Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London
Setting Analysis of To Build A Fire Today, children are always told to live for the moment. Not to
worry about the little things and to live as if there will be no tomorrow. Almost as if what is done
today will not affect tomorrow. In reality, every little thing people do will impact them in some type of
way. For every choice or decision someone makes, there is a consequence that comes with it. This
consequence can be major, minor, good, or bad. In Jack London s short story To Build A Fire , readers
are taken along on a journey with a naive man and his dog as they battle the extreme winter conditions
of the Yukon. One of the driving forces to the story s plot is the harsh setting in which this journey
takes place. The setting enforces the ominous mood of the story as well as reveals information about
the man. While doing so, the setting also conveys the idea that with every decision or action there is a
consequence that must be faced. The setting of To Build A Fire is not one that is warm and inviting.
Instead, it is one that is frigid and frightening. Many layers of snow on the surface make it seem as if
there is an intangible pall over the face of things (London 569). For miles all that can be seen is a
sheet of white and the dreariness of the vacant land. The temperature is well in the negatives and the
winds are strong. The sun has not been out in days. With every step the man takes, nature throws
another obstacle into his path. This is an environment that is

century and early 20th century s most prominent black empowerment leaders was W.E.B DuBois. In
research it is clear that DuBois was not subtle to one job or career choice. As a civil rights activist,
educator, sociologist, historian, writer, editor, scholar, and poet, DuBois contributed to changing
American society today. DuBois is mostly remember for his work with the NAACP and his notorious

Comparing The Time Period Of Joseph Hansberry s The Sun
As you begin to compare the time period in which A Raisin in the Sun was written, the 1950s, and
now, you can find many similarities and differences regarding racial equality in the Chicagoland, even
more specifically the south side. The Younger family, deriving from the African American descent, in
Lorraine Hansberry s play, has trouble finding happiness when they are surrounded by successful
white people, while they are stuck living in a two bedroom apartment and struggle to make ends meet.
In the 1950s, it was much harder for African Americans to find jobs where they could make a
substantial living to provide for their families, but in today s society the opportunities for the black
race have improved immensely, although a problem with their pay grade still persists. On the other
hand, the two time periods are similar in the respect that the environment on the Southside of Chicago
today is very similar to what it was like almost 60 years ago. Additionally, just like in the play, police
force continues to be an issue, whether that be because they favor a certain race, or police brutality;
shooting people with the wrong intentions. More problems that exist today include, gang violence,
protests, and segregated schools in the poorer black communities. While the Chicagoland continues to
struggle with problems regarding racial equality, they have made many improvements such as the
development of organizations to keep children off of the streets and out of trouble as well as

The debate over the legalization of drugs continues to disturb the American public. Such an issue stirs

you to please keep an open mind and hear me out on this very controversial subject. All of us have in
some way or another been affected by drug, whether it is a family member or the economic burden on

The day after legalization, the honest kids will have the last laugh. The pushers will be out of a job,
unemployed. What could be done is instead of giving the pusher the profit; we can put the money into
the hands of the government. Let the government put it into education for drugs or in to well needed
social programs. The government would increase revenue in many ways. The first way would be that
the majority of inmates are drug offenders; an inmate costs the government approximately 20,000
(Fedral burea of proison facts, internet). There would be a lot of money being saved by the
government, there would be no more Drug Enforcement Agencies, which cost the government a lot of
money to train, but also the equipment and wages, not to mention the state and local departments.
There would be no more lives wasted on trying to fight the drug war. One might ask if drugs were
legalized, would that lead to more addicts? There is a chance, especially at first. Though some say it
would be like the forbidden fruit theory, if it were legal it would take the thrill out of getting them, so
that could discourage drug use. But it is important to understand that we have so many addicts today
because pushers are doing their jobs quite well: pushing drugs on people who otherwise would not
likely use them. They glamorize the drugs, give them away free,

How Did Florence Nightingale Influence Modern Nursing

Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale who has been described as the founder of modern nursing was born to a English
family in Florence on May 12, 1820. Nightingale was born to a very religious, and wealthy family and
was often encouraged to attend church as a girl. When Nightingale turned 24 she decided that she had
the desire to work in hospitals, but her family strongly disapproved due to the hospital conditions at
the time. Her parents finally gave her permission to attend a prestigious nursing school in Germany. In
1853 Nightingale took charge of a charity which took care of women in distressed circumstances.
After the breakout of the Crimean War Nightingale decided to organize a team of nurses to help tend

The Industrial Revolution Of The Late Nineteenth And Early...
The industrial revolution of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century served as the impetus to
the creation of new technologies that helped interconnect various parts of the world. In essence,
technology was crucial to the development of a globalized economy. With the development of a global
economy companies began to expand beyond national borders and cater to citizens around the world
by becoming multinational corporations. These now global companies have not only expanded their
markets, but also rely on labor and raw materials from all around the world. For example, PepsiCo
Inc. employs a global workforce to drive their business, Apple Inc. acquires their component supplies
from companies spanning the globe, and The Boeing Company uses a global distribution system in
order to market their products to airlines in various regions of the world. PepsiCo Inc. was established
in 1965 with the merger of Pepsi Cola and Frito Lay. Ever since, the company has been expanding its
line of products via acquiring other companies and creating new brands. For example, PepsiCo
introduced the Doritos brand of tortilla chips in 1966, which became an instant hit. Furthermore, in
1998 PepsiCo acquired Tropicana Products. Over the past 50 years, PepsiCo has entered over 200
countries such as Japan, Russia, and India even though domestic sales in the United States were very
strong. In 2015, the company employed around 110,000 people in the United States and over 263,000

Intelligence Vs And Isaac Asimov s Theory Of Multiple...
Most everyone who has undergone public schooling and standardized testing is familiar with the
thought Does this test even assess any real ability? . Generally, people who don t perform well on
these tests either believe that standardized testing only works for people who are book smart or that
standardized testing does not work at all. But what is book smart anyway? Some people tend to
generalize intelligence into two categories, people who are book smart and people who are street
smart , as exemplified in Isaac Asimov s What is Intelligence, Anyway? . In Asimov s excerpt, he tells
the story of a young woman who performed well when it came to standardized testing, but realized
that she was not street smart. When she went to her mechanic to fix her car, he asks her a trick
question and, when she answers incorrectly, says that he knew she would get it wrong because she was
so book smart that there was no way she was street smart (122 123). This leads to the distinction that
book smart refers to idealized and theoretical intelligence, while street smart refers to a type of hands
on intelligence. While this is a common way for people to view intelligence, there exists an even more
thorough examination of intelligence Howard Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligences which
outlines as many as nine types of intelligence. Bearing in mind that there are so many different types
of intelligence, it begs the question of whether or not standardized testing can really be a good

Gross Domestic Product (Gdp) Is an Inadequate Measure of...
Title Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an inadequate measure of societal well being and should be
replaced by the Human Development Index (HDI) Abstract This paper will discuss the anomally of
Human Development Index (HDI) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In this discussion I will argue
for HDI as a fairer comparison of a country s overall economic wealth health and social well being
rather than the generally accepted method used by most countries of GDP. HDI allows for a more
comprehensive understanding of well being than purely economic measurements like GDP, and better
identifies areas of need within countries. GDP is basicially a measure of a country s overall economic
output. It does not consider GDP per capita. If a country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would causes prices rise which in turn means people have to pay more for the same goods and
services. If individual income increases at a slower rate than inflation, people s standard of living
declines even if they are making more. Taking China as an example, China s obsession with high GDP
growth is part of the economics problem (http://www.businessinsider.com/china inflation hits new
high 2011 5, May, 2011). In 2010, over half of GDP growth was due to investment in fixed assets,
much of it fueled by cheap money and easy credit. Because of the rates of GDP growth due to
personal assets such as a reasonable investment, integration, inflation may bring assets to face a
serious risk of shrinking in the future. As Chovanec stated that the real challenge for China isn t
racking up ever higher GDP figures, but putting its economy on a more sustainable footing going
forward, even if that means lower rates of growth (http://www.businessinsider.com/china inflation hits

Theme Of Katherina In The Taming Of The Shrew
In the Taming Of The Shrew, William Shakespeare directs Katherina to undergo a dramatic attitude
and personality change throughout the course of her marriage to Petruchio. In the time of the play,
women were expected to be loyal and obedient. Katherina began by challenging and contradicting that
perception, yet still gives into the demands of society and Petruchio by the conclusion of the play.
Petruchio humiliates and starves her, which shows his dominance in their relationship and eventually
persuades Katherina to give in to him and how he wants her to act. Through the portrayal of Petruchio
s character, Shakespeare shows how women were treated badly and abused in mental, physical and
emotional ways by their husbands in the Shakespearean times. In various ways, Petruchio tames
Katherina and as the play ends, it becomes evident that she is now a normal wife for the
Shakespearean era. On Petruchio s wedding day, he instigates his first technique to tame Katherina by
humiliating her in the public eye. Before the two characters have even been legally wedded, Petruchio
already begins his process of taming Katherina, the wretched shrew . He does this at the day of the
wedding, by arriving late enough that everyone starts to worry whether or not Petruchio will arrive for
his own wedding. The guests perceive Katherina to have no emotions because she is thought to be a

  • 3. Paper Mache Research Paper Art is perhaps the best way on the planet to show and describe feelings. For many people art is nothing but color on paper, but in truth it is so much more. To be able to properly understand a work of art, which could be a sculpture, painting, drawing etc. You must first be able to understand how the artist has expressed themselves. So we are going to take this one step at a time and look at one of the most popular type of sculpture. Paper mache. Paper mache comes from the combination of French syllables, papier mache meaning chewed paper. The art form gets its name from it s wet, soggy appearance. The composite material can be made from paper or pulp. In Ancient Egypt, many of the facemasks and caskets were made from crushed up papyrus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For those of you who don t know what a pinata is, it is basically a paper mache animal or toy that you hollow out and fill with candy. Then you put on a blindfold and hit it with a bat until the candy comes out. This tradition first originated from Spain except you would fill the pinata with toys or other small trinkets instead of candy. For those of you who are new to art. It is not easy. Frustration can be very common, especially when you sculpt in paper mache. I have done paper mache before and know it to be very unforgiving if you make a mistake. A couple examples of things you want to avoid are: thin spots on your project, (cave in s), Not too much solution, (Can wreck your base), And painting before your sculpture is dry. Like I said at the start of this essay. Art is a wonderful way to express yourself in many ways: visual, photographic, sculpting (3D) etc. but one thing everyone must keep in mind is that no piece of art is perfect. If you make a mistake that is just fine, you are not a professional. And if you are, well good for you. But what I am trying to say is that not just anyone can fully grasp or understand art. As all my teachers say. It s okay not to know, however it isn t okay not to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan The Omnivore s Dilemma Summary The main idea of The Omnivore s Dilemma, by Michael Pollan, is to make the reader aware of where his food comes from, and what goes into his food. Pollan does this by breaking the book into four different types of meals: the industrial and processed meal consisting of food produced in factories or grown on large scale farms, the organic meal created on industrial farms, the grass fed meal made of meat and produce created on mindful and smaller farms, and finally the meal containing food gathered, hunted, or grown by the person who will consume it. Pollan starts by explaining the origin of corn in Mexico and southwestern North America. He visited George Naylor, an industrial corn farmer living in Iowa, at his farm to learn about the dominating industry. Since corn is one of the cheapest sources of calories, and is so abundant, scientists have modified it into just about every different form they can to make more use out of it. Corn is now used to feed cattle, which are physically designed to eat meat. Corn fed beef contains more saturated fat than grass fed beef, making it exceedingly unhealthy. Pollan also talks about the harsh lives of animals on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The grass feeds the cows, while the cows actually encourage the growth of the grass. Chickens eat insects from the waste of the cows, producing rich eggs. The owner of Polyface Farm, Joel Salatin, has mastered this way of farming by harnessing the natural benefits of producing a variety of species together. Pollan also participated in the process of slaughtering chickens on Polyface Farm, which is much smaller and less routine than on factory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The people of Maycomb find it a sin to kill a mockingbird. The bird doesn t do anything destructive. Therefore it does not deserve to die. A mockingbird is a symbol of some and just a bird for others. • 8. Crazed Fruit Essay What are the foundations of any film? The foundations of a film are nothing technical, but the time and thought that goes into them are what makes a film. These foundations are the lights, scenery, plot, camera techniques, and of course the actors. What really makes a film is the selection of actors the director picks. Yes, all the other foundations are important, but the character choice is what makes a film. In Nakahira s film Crazed Fruit, he choice actress Mie Kitahara to play a youthful young female character named Eri. Eri portrays a character that is a carefree, young, beautiful female, who does not care who she hurts in order to be happy. In the film Crazed Fruit, Eri is part of a postwar generation called taiyozoku, meaning Sun Tribe. This generation is described to be young, rich, with plenty of free time. Eri embodies all the traits that Japan s postwar youth embodied. The only problem is that Japan s new conservative government feared that parents would be absent. This allows them access to excess of money, leisure time, and time for sexual activity. Before the war there were none of these problems, and the reason for them is because of Western habits being introduced. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plus, talking about dick does lead to fights at times, depending on how people throw the word dick around. • 12. Narrative Essay On High School Basketball My freshman year of high school basketball was almost coming to an end. Our record was pretty stellar, and we needed one more win to get the wildcard, which meant we would automatically make it to state. My team was playing against Malcolm, in a really tight game. We were down by two points and Coach Henkel put me in to shoot a three pointer, but both of our hopes and dreams were short lived. I missed the shot, and I lost the game for us. I was devastated, and so was everyone else. As I sat in the locker room, all I could do was stare at the ground. The only thing running through my mind was, no one is going to trust me with the ball anymore or worse yet, everyone is going to be mad at me. These thoughts were slowly tearing me down, day by day. But that was until Coach Henkel talked to me, and told me not to worry about missing the shot. He told me everyone misses, and that he wasn t to worried. So, I was given two options, dwell on the past and let that affect my playing, or forget about it and move on. I have been given multiple opportunities where not dwelling on the past has come into play. In the eighth grade I helped someone cheat on a test, and got caught. Many desires drove the colonies to a violent war, and it all started with the following: In 1763, a peace treaty had just been signed. This was called the Peace of Paris which ended a long series of costly conflicts between Britain and France during the French and Indian wars. Because France had lost, they were forced to give all the American territory to Great Britain. After Great Britain took control of the region, King George III did not want to fight another war in America so he forbid colonial settlement on the western lands. This was called the Proclamation line of 1763. This proclamation angered many colonies since they believed that a king who ruled across the ocean could not determine the colonist needs and had no right to limit where they could settle. This was the beginning of many troubles in the colonies. It was not until 1764 when Britain started to interfere with the colonies. The colonies had some independence so they were not used to being told what to do. Because the British government had gone in debt fighting France, they decided that the colonies had to help pay for their own defense. To raise this money, parliament made a new law, sugar act. One of the driving forces to the story s plot is the harsh setting in which this journey takes place. The setting enforces the ominous mood of the story as well as reveals information about the man. While doing so, the setting also conveys the idea that with every decision or action there is a consequence that must be faced. The setting of To Build A Fire is not one that is warm and inviting. Instead, it is one that is frigid and frightening. Many layers of snow on the surface make it seem as if there is an intangible pall over the face of things (London 569). For miles all that can be seen is a sheet of white and the dreariness of the vacant land. The temperature is well in the negatives and the winds are strong. The sun has not been out in days. With every step the man takes, nature throws another obstacle into his path. This is an environment that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Learning how these systems work and their limitations was takin into consideration to ensure an effective design could fill the limitations that traditional systems had. Fault Expectation (1 Page) Since the majority of faults found on the distribution are transient faults, it is important to design the system to be able to capture these faults. The most common transients on Orion s network are phase the earth faults. When the fault occurs the currents flow into the system and to the fault then the ground. Even though the transients are short and may last only a few cycles this may cause damage to the system of danger public. An important factor that can influence the transient characterises of the fault is the grounding system. There are three basic types of grounding systems, these include the following: Unearthed Neutral System Solid Neutral Earthed System Impedance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In research it is clear that DuBois was not subtle to one job or career choice. As a civil rights activist, educator, sociologist, historian, writer, editor, scholar, and poet, DuBois contributed to changing American society today. DuBois is mostly remember for his work with the NAACP and his notorious feud with civil rights activist Booker T. Washington. Having a strong stand in what he believed in, his main goal was to improve the lives of African Americans. On February 23, 1868, William Edward Burghardt DuBois was born to Alfred Alexander DuBois and Mary Sylvina Burghardt DuBois. Born and raised in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, DuBois was educated alongside Caucasian children and taught by white teachers as well. • 32. Comparing The Time Period Of Joseph Hansberry s The Sun As you begin to compare the time period in which A Raisin in the Sun was written, the 1950s, and now, you can find many similarities and differences regarding racial equality in the Chicagoland, even more specifically the south side. The Younger family, deriving from the African American descent, in Lorraine Hansberry s play, has trouble finding happiness when they are surrounded by successful white people, while they are stuck living in a two bedroom apartment and struggle to make ends meet. In the 1950s, it was much harder for African Americans to find jobs where they could make a substantial living to provide for their families, but in today s society the opportunities for the black race have improved immensely, although a problem with their pay grade still persists. On the other hand, the two time periods are similar in the respect that the environment on the Southside of Chicago today is very similar to what it was like almost 60 years ago. Additionally, just like in the play, police force continues to be an issue, whether that be because they favor a certain race, or police brutality; shooting people with the wrong intentions. More problems that exist today include, gang violence, protests, and segregated schools in the poorer black communities. While the Chicagoland continues to struggle with problems regarding racial equality, they have made many improvements such as the development of organizations to keep children off of the streets and out of trouble as well as ... • 33. Legalization of All Drugs Legalize Drugs! I know what you re thinking, are you crazy! The debate over the legalization of drugs continues to disturb the American public. Such an issue stirs up moral and religious beliefs, beliefs that are contrary to what Americans should believe. I ask all of you to please keep an open mind and hear me out on this very controversial subject. All of us have in some way or another been affected by drug, whether it is a family member or the economic burden on society. Americans often take at face value the assumptions that drugs cause addiction, which leads to crime. This is true but abundant evidence exists to support the view that legalizing illicit drugs can help solve the drug problem in America. There is not a way to stop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The day after legalization, the honest kids will have the last laugh. The pushers will be out of a job, unemployed. What could be done is instead of giving the pusher the profit; we can put the money into the hands of the government. Let the government put it into education for drugs or in to well needed social programs. The government would increase revenue in many ways. The first way would be that the majority of inmates are drug offenders; an inmate costs the government approximately 20,000 (Fedral burea of proison facts, internet). There would be a lot of money being saved by the government, there would be no more Drug Enforcement Agencies, which cost the government a lot of money to train, but also the equipment and wages, not to mention the state and local departments. There would be no more lives wasted on trying to fight the drug war. One might ask if drugs were legalized, would that lead to more addicts? There is a chance, especially at first. Though some say it would be like the forbidden fruit theory, if it were legal it would take the thrill out of getting them, so that could discourage drug use. But it is important to understand that we have so many addicts today because pushers are doing their jobs quite well: pushing drugs on people who otherwise would not likely use them. The industrial revolution of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century served as the impetus to the creation of new technologies that helped interconnect various parts of the world. In essence, technology was crucial to the development of a globalized economy. With the development of a global economy companies began to expand beyond national borders and cater to citizens around the world by becoming multinational corporations. These now global companies have not only expanded their markets, but also rely on labor and raw materials from all around the world. For example, PepsiCo Inc. employs a global workforce to drive their business, Apple Inc. acquires their component supplies from companies spanning the globe, and The Boeing Company uses a global distribution system in order to market their products to airlines in various regions of the world. PepsiCo Inc. was established in 1965 with the merger of Pepsi Cola and Frito Lay. • 36. Intelligence Vs And Isaac Asimov s Theory Of Multiple... Most everyone who has undergone public schooling and standardized testing is familiar with the thought Does this test even assess any real ability? . Generally, people who don t perform well on these tests either believe that standardized testing only works for people who are book smart or that standardized testing does not work at all. But what is book smart anyway? Some people tend to generalize intelligence into two categories, people who are book smart and people who are street smart , as exemplified in Isaac Asimov s What is Intelligence, Anyway? . In Asimov s excerpt, he tells the story of a young woman who performed well when it came to standardized testing, but realized that she was not street smart. When she went to her mechanic to fix her car, he asks her a trick question and, when she answers incorrectly, says that he knew she would get it wrong because she was so book smart that there was no way she was street smart (122 123). This leads to the distinction that book smart refers to idealized and theoretical intelligence, while street smart refers to a type of hands on intelligence. While this is a common way for people to view intelligence, there exists an even more thorough examination of intelligence Howard Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligences which outlines as many as nine types of intelligence. Bearing in mind that there are so many different types of intelligence, it begs the question of whether or not standardized testing can really be a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Gross Domestic Product (Gdp) Is an Inadequate Measure of... Title Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an inadequate measure of societal well being and should be replaced by the Human Development Index (HDI) Abstract This paper will discuss the anomally of Human Development Index (HDI) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In this discussion I will argue for HDI as a fairer comparison of a country s overall economic wealth health and social well being rather than the generally accepted method used by most countries of GDP. HDI allows for a more comprehensive understanding of well being than purely economic measurements like GDP, and better identifies areas of need within countries. GDP is basicially a measure of a country s overall economic output. It does not consider GDP per capita. If a country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would causes prices rise which in turn means people have to pay more for the same goods and services. If individual income increases at a slower rate than inflation, people s standard of living declines even if they are making more. Taking China as an example, China s obsession with high GDP growth is part of the economics problem (http://www.businessinsider.com/china inflation hits new high 2011 5, May, 2011). In 2010, over half of GDP growth was due to investment in fixed assets, much of it fueled by cheap money and easy credit. Because of the rates of GDP growth due to personal assets such as a reasonable investment, integration, inflation may bring assets to face a serious risk of shrinking in the future. As Chovanec stated that the real challenge for China isn t racking up ever higher GDP figures, but putting its economy on a more sustainable footing going forward, even if that means lower rates of growth (http://www.businessinsider.com/china inflation hits new high 2011 5, May, 2011). Comparing with other indicators, Human Development Index (HDI) presents an innovative approach to measuring well being within affluent nations, and shows a more detailed picture of societal well being than by just economic growth alone. A composite measure called HDI was introduced to measure human development. This index focuses on three basic dimensions: (1) GDP per capita at purchasing power parity (PPP) as measure of a decent ... • 40. Theme Of Katherina In The Taming Of The Shrew In the Taming Of The Shrew, William Shakespeare directs Katherina to undergo a dramatic attitude and personality change throughout the course of her marriage to Petruchio. In the time of the play, women were expected to be loyal and obedient. Katherina began by challenging and contradicting that perception, yet still gives into the demands of society and Petruchio by the conclusion of the play. Petruchio humiliates and starves her, which shows his dominance in their relationship and eventually persuades Katherina to give in to him and how he wants her to act. Through the portrayal of Petruchio s character, Shakespeare shows how women were treated badly and abused in mental, physical and emotional ways by their husbands in the Shakespearean times. In various ways, Petruchio tames Katherina and as the play ends, it becomes evident that she is now a normal wife for the Shakespearean era. On Petruchio s wedding day, he instigates his first technique to tame Katherina by humiliating her in the public eye. Before the two characters have even been legally wedded, Petruchio already begins his process of taming Katherina, the wretched shrew . He does this at the day of the wedding, by arriving late enough that everyone starts to worry whether or not Petruchio will arrive for his own wedding. The guests perceive Katherina to have no emotions because she is thought to be a shrew and so laugh at her when he arrives late. Now must the world point at poor Katherine, and say ...
