The Steady Decline of Salmon Populations
From the San Francisco Bay to streams and rivers of Oregon, salmon populations have been steadily
decreasing over the past two decades but more rapidly within recent years. In general, fish populations
in the Pacific Northwest region have always fluctuated, but the overall trend continues on a downward
slope to extinction. While natural phenomena such as flooding and predators of the food chain do
affect salmon populations, human activity poses the greatest threat by far. The four main reasons of
salmon plummeting are as followed: Harvest, Hatcheries, Hydropower, and Habitat. It s clear that
water ecosystems and management of human activity threaten salmon as a whole. Whether it s a bay,
river or stream whatever body of water that contains salmon should be subject to ethics that guide our
actions as a part of achieving a better overall environment. Salmon have a truly incredible life cycle.
Like all fish, salmon spawn from female eggs and then go on to develop into alevin, which is a term
for newly hatched fish. First off, they derive nourishment from the yolk sac from where the salmon are
born. Once the sac has been absorbed, the fry, or baby fish, then emerges from the river gravel and
starts the search for food. Fry instinctively deal with the river currents and learn to swim together as a
school right away. Anywhere from a couple days to two years old, fry will continue to live in fresh
water until they start the next, smolting, phase. Smolting is a

Laser Hair Removal Research Paper
Over the past few decades there has been new developments in the Cosmetic industry. But, by being
so new to society how can we know about any risks about such new discoveries. One of the recent
developments, created in the last two decades, is the Laser Hair Removal Treatment. What is this new
development and how effective is it?
What is Laser Hair Removal? Laser hair removal is a Cosmetic procedure that uses laser beams to
remove unwanted hair from the body. This basic principle behind this program is selective
photothermolysis which, in Greek, creates the words light, heat and destruction that describes the
process of the surgery. The machine creates a highly intensified light that passes through the skin and
targets the melanin (pigmentation) which absorbs the energy, damages the papilla, then heat is
conducted outwards to destroy the germ cells that are on the hair shaft while leaving the surrounding
tissue somewhat undamaged. The perfect time to perform this treatment is when the hair is going
through its early anagen stage. This is when the hair is still connected to the papilla when growing,
eliminating 10 15% of the hair after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and provide Epidermal cooling to reduce pain and side effects. Two Epidermal cooling strategies are
Cryogen spray that is directly sprayed before or after the laser beams onto the skin and Forced Air

The Moose By Elizabeth Bishop
The poem The Moose by Elizabeth Bishop opens up by capturing the landscape and physical
appearance of the Nova Scotia coast, where Bishop was taken to live with her grandparents in her
younger days. As she is traveling to Boston she takes into account various images and perspectives she
is seeing and hearing. Like some of Bishop s previous poems, The Moose focuses on the beauty and
power of nature, and how nature can be almost a burden to our everyday life. Bishop does this by
including vivid imagery, syntax, and alliteration throughout the poem.
With Bishop being familiar with the Nova Scotia coast, she really has a connection in the poem with
the landscape and what is going on around her, which the reader can appreciate throughout the first
couple of stanzas. The reader can identify this connection with the vivid use of imagery Bishop
portrays. She starts out the poem describing the scenery and a little bit of the culture that has
surrounded her for most of her years. Lines 1 4 cite, From narrow provinces /of fish and bread and tea,
/ home of the long tides/ where the bay leaves the sea. With these particular lines, Bishop creates a
soothing and comfortable image and tone. She sets the mood of the poem by the repetitive syntactical
use of language. Bishop does a great job with this by having the reader appreciate what she is seeing
and displaying a meaning of what is behind these long tides and the bay.
She continues on with the third stanza describing the sunset

Analysis Of Alice Munro s How I Met My Husband
How I Met My Husband by Alice Munro is a short story about Edie, a fifteenth year old girl, who
works at Dr. Peebles and Mrs.Peebles house taking care of their children, cleaning the house,
preparing the vegetables and occasionally baking desserts. One day they heard a plane pass by, and
they ran into the yard to look. Their neighbor Loretta Bird mentioned that the plane was close to
hitting their house and began to talk about the plane. She also specified that the pilot received
permission to use the fairgrounds and give residents rides to see the neighborhood from above. The
next day when Edie finished her tasks early, she sometimes would look at Mrs. Peebles clothes and
even tried on a dress and put makeup on. She headed to the kitchen to drink ginger ale and gets
startled by a man, named Chris Watters, standing outside the door. He mentions he s the pilot of the
plane and asks if he can obtain some water from the pump. He complimented and thanked her and left
to the pump. After she rushed to take off the dress and wash her face before Mrs. Peebles arrived to
the house. Mrs. Peebles commenced to ask questions about the man, but Edie contemplated on
becoming fired if the man revealed how she dressed. After the Dr. and Mrs. Peebles departed to the
theater, Edie ensured the children were sleeping then headed outside. She desired to talk to Chris to
make sure he wouldn t say anything about her dressed up. He assured he wouldn t reveal anything and

Literary Analysis Of Blackberry Picking, By Seamus Heaney
In life, people experience loss. Loss of a friend, a family member, or a significant other. Even though
we don t always recognize it, death is inevitable. The loss that people experience may influence how
they remember things and see the world. Seamus Heaney uses the speaker in the poem to show one
way of dealing with death is to accept it. The nostalgic views of the speaker in the poem shows the
speakers remembrance of picking the blackberries and even though the berries would rot too soon, the
good memories of picking the berries would always outweigh the bad of them rotting. In Blackberry
Picking , Seamus Heaney utilizes colorfully yet contrasting imagery, diction and structure to suggest
that death is inevitable and loss isn t always the easiest thing to accept, but sometimes, that is the best
way to handle it.
First, The contrasting imagery of the poem represents life and death. At first, just one, a glossy purple
clot among others, red, green, hard as a knot. the speaker uses the ripeness of a berry to represent a
life. The red and green berries description of the bessies suggest they are not ready yet. I interpreted
the berries to also represent the end of a pregnancy, where the mother is almost ready to give birth, but
not quite yet. The glossy purple clot represents the berry finally being ready to be picked. This could
also represent the actual birth of the baby. Later in the poem Heaney describes the berries having A rat
grey fungus (19) and later describes the berries saying that The fruit fermented, the sweet flesh would
turn sour. (21) I interpreted this imagery as representing death. As people get older, their hair often
turns gray. Also, the fruit fermenting may represent the actual final death as the fruit rots and no
longer lives. The contrasting imagery of the beginning and end of the very may very well represent the
life and death of a person. As we go through life we begin as new, small, and tiny. When we age, we
often become wrinkled and the aging shows not only with skin, but as well as the hair as stated before.
As we grow older our interpretation of the world goes from pretty bright colors to dull, boring ones.
Heaney s use of the imagery shows the audience that good things

What Is The Theme Of Salaam Brick Lane
I have studied a novel excerpt called Salam Brick Lane by Tarquin Hall (1969). The excerpt is mainly
about a young man called Tarquin Hall, who wanted to return to his native London. He used to live in
south west London, but when he moved in to Salaam Brick Lane were things not as he remembered.
The street was a noisy filthy street where prostitutes and drug dealer was visible at the pavements. The
next line is from the text and is about the taxi driver warning Hall about the immigrants on the street.

The Major Challenges Of Social Work
Social workers perform extensive duties ranging from providing support to those faced with difficult
situations, emotional stress, or significant change in their lives to diagnose emotional, behavioral, or
mental health disorders in individuals. Many different social, economic, or school issues will need the
services of a social worker. As such, social work is the major profession worldwide that helps
individual people, families, groups, organizations, and communities to prevent or resolve problems in
social and psychological functioning, meet basic human needs, achieve life enhancing goals, and
create a just society. Jane Addams helped build social work during her time as a founder of the U.S.
Settlement House Movement to establish settlement houses in poor urban areas for volunteer middle
class social workers to alleviate the poverty of their low income neighbors. Addams ideas continue to
influence social, political, and economic reform in the United States as well as internationally.
Through the study of social work, one is able to help people that may struggle with providing basic
necessities for one s family, help people that may struggle with drug or alcohol problems, and help
people experiencing problems with family and relationship conflicts. Through the various services
they provide, social workers are able to help greatly impact and reduce current societal ills, such as
poverty, drug overdoses, and crime rates. Many social workers work with families who may not

Why were the Habsburgs unable to consolidate their power...
The seventeenth century was undeniably a period of great division, war and turmoil for Hungary. After
the events of the previous century, Hungary remained divided into three distinct areas. The largest was
Ottoman Hungary, under the direct control of Constantinople, which encompassed the south and south
east of Hungary. Second, there was the Eastern Hungarian Kingdom founded by János Zápolyai in
1526, who after the defeat of the Hungarian forces at the First Battle of Mohács sought the support of
Sultan Suleiman I to be crowned King of Hungary by a rival faction of the nobility and became the
Sultan s vassal. After 1571, with the coronation of István Báthory, this Kingdom became the

Due to Louis being connected to the Habsburgs through his own marriage and that of his sister Anne,
the Habsburg Archduke of Austria Ferdinand I was elected King of Bohemia. He moved to secure his
title as King of Hungary and was crowned King by a minority group of nobles on December 16th
1526. However, he was not uncontested. János Zápolyai was also elected King by the majority of the
nobility on November 11th. In order to cement his rule, Zápolyai was encouraged by a Polish noble
and the French ambassador to Poland to enter an agreement with the Ottoman Sultan. As a result,
Suleiman I supported Zápolyai and had him become his vassal. Suleiman then moved to expand
further into Hungary and marched west, reaching Vienna in 1529. After the siege, heavy snowfall
forced the Ottomans to retreat on October 14th, while Ferdinand secured the western province of
Hungary. It was this division which remained the status quo until our period being studied, due to the
exhaustion of the Ottoman machine of expansion. The result was the split of Hungary by the
seventeenth century into the Habsburg controlled Royal Hungary in the west, the rival Principality of
Transylvania in the east and the Ottoman controlled lands of the south and centre. This made sure that
the Habsburg could consolidate power in Hungary while it was so divided. It should next be argued
that a substantial factor in the restrictions

When the words are studied, there is an even mixture of loud and soft sounds. Some soft sounding
words words that use consonant sounds that are soft when spoken such as an s include mists, close,
son, bless, mossed, and trees. There are also the hard sounding words words that use consonant sounds
that are loud when spoken such as a b or t like maturing, round, thatch, and budding. The words do not
appear to be randomly used, but they seem to have a pattern: the hard and soft sounds come in pairs.
In the second line, we see, close bosom friend of the maturing sun. Close and bosom go together, with
close being loud and soft with the hard c and soft s, and bosom being loud and soft with the b and s.
The words maturing sun are not placed together haphazardly either. Maturing is a very hard word with
the m and t sound; sun is a very soft word, beginning with an s. Also, in the third line Keats says,
Conspiring with him how to load and bless. Autumn is conspiring . . . to load (loud due to the p and d
sounds) and bless (soft due to the double s sound). Again, Keats pairs a loud and a soft sound. This
gives the whole stanza a generally loud, lively sound with a quiet hiss in the background. This tells of
the great bounty of the current time, but adds a quiet feeling to it, such as what Keats was trying to
communicate that death or a time of quiet

The Financial System Inquiry ( Fsi )
The Financial System Inquiry (FSI) acts as a model for achieving a resilient and efficient financial
system, contributing to Australia s economic growth. The Capital requirements implemented
according to the FSI has potential impacts on Australian banking system:
1. Increase in borrowing cost/ interest rate
The recommendation that banks in Australia are required to hold additional capital would lead to an
increase in the borrowing costs. Furthermore, the requirement of capital held in banks must be of a
higher quality makes capital more expensive (FSI 2013). A 1% point increase in capital requirements
is estimated to raise average interest on loan by less than 10 basis points, assuming that full cost is
passed on to consumers (Mitchell 2013). In relation to that, Australia banks have to come up with
repricing strategies to pass on the cost to consumers. However, the actual change in lending interest
rates would be lower in a competitive market because RBA has can lower the cash rates in critical
conditions. An increase in interest rate would lower real GDP by less than 0.1% points (Mitchell
2013).
2. Foregone opportunity cost
The higher capital requirements would imply that banks need to use more capital funding and place
larger constraints on banks sources and usage of funding (The banking system 2013). This would limit
or forego banks opportunity to finance new projects (FSI 2013).
3. Reduced risk premium
On the bright side, the tighter capital regulations would reduce

Paradise Lost Religion
Satan, still within the body of the serpent, offers Eve a multitude of reasons why she should eat from
the Tree of Knowledge, despite God s warnings. He tells her the fruit will not kill her as God says, for
he ate of the fruit and is not only alive, but made even more powerful. In his most prevalent argument,
Satan attempts to demonstrate to Eve that the act of eating has the ability to become a transformative
experience. Though ultimately true, the transformation that Satan describes occurs far differently than
the one she and Adam actually receive. In Christianity, food acts as such a significant force that Satan
can almost seamlessly trick Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Food and eating is so powerful
throughout theology, that Eve can effortlessly envision its potential as a vehicle to transform her from
an earthly human to a god like being. Upon Eve s initial consumption of the illicit fruit, one of her
leading thoughts becomes that the fruit may render me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story of creation expressed in Paradise Lost , Milton depicts how food can act as a way to
transform a person of innocence into one defined largely by depravity. Within his story, Milton
communicates the fall of man through the act of consumption. Reversely, man s ability to achieve
redemption is also profoundly contingent on food. In religiously sanctioned eating, such as the Holy
Communion, food can act to aid one s relationship with God. By participating in the Eucharist and
other godly ways of consumption, man becomes able to rebuild and restore the relationship with God
that became corrupt after Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge. In Christian faith,
everything hinges on God s interpretation. If God gives a regulation, whether that regulation present
itself in the form of food or not, man s level of ability and willingness to follow that decree largely
defines his spiritual

Immanuel Kant On Animal Rights
Immanuel Kant believed that only humans are to be treated as end and that animals do not have moral
value they are only a means to our ends. Kant did not consider animals to be moral agents and since
animals are not moral agents then they are not ends in themselves therefore they do not deserve rights.
As a student of philosophy I found myself disagreeing completely with Kant s view on animal rights. I
recognize the differences between humans and animals, yet I believe that the differences do not
separate animals from deserving rights. Research has proven that many non humans share capacities
that are viewed as unique to humans. Also if Kant s consideration for rights is based on being a
rational being or a moral agent then many being in society who are held with moral values would not

Kant agreed that animals should not just be killed for the pleasure or beat for no good sake. Kant
believed this because if a person decides to treat animals abusively or wrongly then that person may
encounter problems with other people. Acting inhumanely toward any other person or non human
animal is not morally right in any situation as it will not only affect the subject being treated wrongly
but it will affect the person doing the actions character. Kant also believed that it is only morally right
for a person to act from duty only and for no other reason. An example would be if an animal was hit
by a car and a person stopped to observe the scene. The person examines the animal s injuries and sees
that the animal just needs medical attention. Kant would say that the person should take the animal to
receive medical attention. Not because the person may feel bad for the animal and not because the
person wants to be seen as a caring person, but because it is the right thing to

The Growing Rate Of Obesity Among The Community
Obesity has been an issue that is been pathologized in the Samoan community.. I am not entirely sure
if the blame is on fast food industries or it has something to do with our unique genes. I grew up in
American Samoa, a small island southwest of Hawaii, and health is not a priority in my community.
One health challenge that I have witnessed while growing up in Samoa is the growing rate of obesity
among the community. According to the World Health Organization records, 95% of the populations
are overweight. Most Samoans depend heavily on western food such as burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, and
other fried food that has been introduced to people s diet. Some people cannot afford organic foods or
vegetables because it is too expensive so they turn to fast food chains since they offer a cheap and
convenient alternative. Being obese in Samoa is normal since more than half of the population fall
under this category. However, that view has changed once western culture become heavily involved in
the Samoan community in regards to cultural and social beliefs.
Before western food was incorporated in American Samoa, people depended on raw food such as taro,
banana, breadfruit, fresh seafood, etc., to survive. They were in built and fit shapes because they
would constantly have to be engaged in subsistence fishing and farming. Since Westernization has
brought fast food, laborsaving devices, and other technological devices, it reduced the incentive for
Samoans to participate in physical

To help with the quick admission, intranasal administration is a convenience to those who have to

easier to administer, intravenous and intramuscular Naloxone administrators have a choice on the dose

On the other hand, Strang, McDonald, Tas, and Day discovered that when intranasal Naloxone is not
administered at a 90 degree angle or the nasal cavity is blocked with vomit, Naloxone gathers at the
back of the throat and is swallowed by the Naloxone recipient (576). This means that when intranasal

Nevertheless, several studies have shown that intranasal Naloxone absorbs in the same amount of time
as intravenous Naloxone when the administrator accounts for the time Naloxone takes for an I.V. to be

Bank Regulation Before the advent of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in 1933 and
the general conception of government safety nets, the United States banking industry was quite
different than it is today. Depositors assumed substantial default risk and even the slightest changes in
consumer confidence could result in complete turmoil within the banking world. In addition, bank
managers had almost complete discretion over operations. However, today the financial system is
among the most heavily government regulated sectors of the U.S. economy. This drastic change in
public policy resulted directly from the industry s numerous pre regulatory failures and major
disruptions that produced severe economic and social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Differences in banking regulations across borders permit the most efficient channeling of funds from
lenders to borrowers, leading to increased investment and thus increased GDP. Therefore it is
imperative that policy makers prudently evaluate the possible consequences and benefits of
harmonized banking regulations, as demonstrated by similar regulations instituted domestically,
before any such endeavor is embarked upon. During the 1930s, the most prominent reason for U.S.
banking regulation was to prevent bank panics and more economic disaster like those that had been
experienced during the Great Depression. Later deregulation and financial innovation in industrialized
countries during the 1980s eroded banks monopoly power, thus weakening their banking systems and
seeming to embody the fears of post Depression policy makers who instituted regulation in the first
place. Fear that individual bank failures could spread across international borders creates pressure to
harmonize bank regulation worldwide. One advocate suggests that universal banking, at least for
industrialized countries with internationally active banks, would level the playing field by eliminating
competitive advantages created by government subsidies. Although this is a valid point, one of the
major driving forces behind the globalization of the banking world is the ability of banks to take

The recent invention by Professor Harald Haas of The University of Edinburgh using visible light as a
source to send data led us to do some research on Visible Light Communication, ultimately using this
research for our project for the final year of my undergraduate program. In this the data is being
transferred using visible light from transmitter to another receiver. It had unique features like it
required very less hardware and a easy to learn software, the visual basic 2.0. The Project in the final
year of diploma was the CAR BATTERY INVERTER in which it converts the Direct Current into
Alternating Current in most feasible way. This project was selected by our college to represent it for
the International Level Project Competition Cum Exhibition, for which we received Participation
Certificates. During the same time, I attended the workshop on R duno bot, which was held in one of
the reputed institute of India, the IIT BOMBAY (Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay).
The Undergraduate Program developed skills such as Leadership and Communication. Since our
college being a newly established, we had to take more effort to improve and establish our academics
as well as the Extra Curricular Activities. Being posted as the Vice Chairman of the IETE (Institution

Comparing Disney World And Universal Orlando Studios
There are a lot of theme parks in the world. Some are alike in many ways, and some may not have
anything in common. Theme parks may be world known and others may not be known to many
tourists. Two of the most common parks are in Florida: Disney World and Universal Orlando Studios.
Disney World is unique in a lot of ways. Disney World is made up of a total of 27,258 acres. Just the
resort in Disney is the same size as San Francisco. Disney is expensive, however, it is for the most part
less expensive than Universal Studios. When Disney first opened its doors in 1971 the admission fee
was less than $10. The founder of Disney World is the founder of everything Disney Walter Elias
Disney. Disney has roughly 62,000 employees in 2017, and that doesn t include interns. The yearly
average attendance is 46.5 million in 2017. Disney is definitely one of a kind in a lot of ways. Disney

Analysis Of The Negro Question And John Stuart Mill
Carlyle and Mill And Their Differences Of Opinion On Nature, Agriculture, and Humanity
Thomas Carlyle s Occasional Discourse On The Negro Question and John Stuart Mill s responding
essay, The Negro Question, primarily deal with the implications of a liberated black population in the
West Indies. However, the texture of their respective arguments lends itself to rhetoric of nature and
agriculture. Carlyle and Mill could not see humanity s relationship with nature more differently. Due
to different understandings of humanity s relationship with nature,
Carlyle and Mill s evaluation of agricultural productivity varies, thus informing their representation of
blacks in the West Indies.

Instead, Mill derives satisfaction from nature s action, citing its
spontaneous activity as the source of his enjoyment. In this sense, it could be suggested that
Mill sees the betterment of humanity as tethered to the betterment in nature, as increased action from
nature provides increased satisfaction to humanity. Unlike Carlyle, this sets up humanity s relationship
with nature as mutual, if not subservient. To Mill, it is essential that humanity aids and works with
nature, rather than extract from it.
The differences in Carlyle and Mill s understandings of nature reflect themselves in their represented
approaches to agriculture in Occasional Discourse On The Negro Question and The
Negro Question, respectively. Carlyle sees agriculture as the system capable of producing items that
are valuable to humans. Mill, on the other hand, recognizes agriculture as an ongoing and hopefully
mutually beneficial relationship between earth and human. Their differences in opinions are best
represented in their respective treatments of commodities and land use.
Throughout the Occasional Discourse Carlyle harps on the shame of cultivating pumpkins. In fact,
there is a moment in the text when Carlyle uses the phrase merely pumpkinish as a means to belittle
the efforts of the West Indies farmers. Instead of pumpkins,
Carlyle seeks commodities of bright, blaring, obvious value from the West Indies. He emphasizes that

Damien Hirst s The On The Mind Of Someone Living
The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living is a piece that was created by the
artist Damien Hirst in the year 1992. In summary, it is a tiger shark that is preserved in a formaldehyde
solution in a case of glass and steel. The case is separated into three parts, which most likely is
because Hirst did not want the viewer to see and observe the piece as one whole dead shark. It is
thought that this steel casing breaks the continuity of the shark and therefore, becomes less
connectable as something familiar to the viewer. This shark is considered one of the most shocking
pieces of American art. This is because this shark, for many people, seems to be a direct representation
of death and is quite disturbing, and somewhat scary to look at, whether it be in person or in real life.
Therefore, the belief stands that this piece is more a form of science than a form of art. The artist of
the piece is Damien Hirst. Hirst is an English artist who was born in Bristol and moved to London
when he was 19 years old. Hirst was raised in a Catholic household, and even had an early religious
educational childhood. Later in his life, he pulls from this religious education as inspiration for his
works. He got his Bachelors of Arts in Fine Arts from Goldsmiths College in 1989, which he later
used to practice sculpture, painting, and drawing. After graduating, Hirst and his peers became part of

The Importance of John Adams 1763-1776
The Importance of John Adams 1763 1776 Fear is the foundation of most governments, (1) quoted by
the fearless leader John Adams. John Adams played significant roles during the years of 1763 through
1776. He was in support of self governing and independence which caused him to become the leader
of the Boston Massacre. Between 1765 and 1776, Adams s involvement in radical politics ran apace
with the escalation of events. In 1770, he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives,
and he later served as chief legal counsel to the Patriot faction and wrote several important resolutions
for the lower house in its running battle with Governor Thomas Hutchinson. He also wrote a

His work was first published in the Boston Gazette and was published on January 23, 1775. In
America, John Adams works were published as pamphlets, but in London they were published in
abridged form. His essays were signed Novanglus, and they were a reply to other essays signed,
Massachusettensis. John Adams did not know who the artist of Massachusettensis was but he had a
very strong feeling that it was Jonathan Sewell, later he discovered that his antagonist was Daniel
Leonard. Many believe that John Adams played a role in the Boston Tea Party, but in actuality he had
nothing to do with the Boston Tea Party, only thing Adams did was approve it. He felt it had
reasonable motives, was very bold, and should be marked as a big moment in history. Adams believed
British wouldn t respect the colonist rights unless someone forced them. That s how John Adams
became one of the four most important Patriot leaders in Boston. After the Boston Tea Party, King
George III grew highly furious because so much tea was destroyed and he closed the whole Boston
port. Not only did King George III close the port of Boston but he was so extremely upset that he
suspended all town meetings in Massachusetts colonies and instead of having Boston listed as the
capital of Massachusetts, he made Salem the capital. King George III wanted these new rules to stay

Almond Trees In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Typically, audiences read mystery novels to find out who committed the crime or why the crime was
committed however, in Chronicle of a Death Foretold the audience is aware of both motive and the
killers. In fact, the reader soon discovers that most of the community knows the details surrounding
the crime even before it takes place. The novel follows the narrator as he interrogates a Colombian
village trying to make meaning behind the lack of intervention surrounding the death of Santiago
Nasar, a death which could have been easily prevented. The final conclusion appears in the form of
deep cultural concerns, which Gabriel García Márquez employs as a social commentary to portray the

These passages are significant because they represent the means women must achieve to meet their
community s standards. The use of artificial flowers represents women being forced to fake their
virginity as to maintain their honor. This is especially seen towards the end of the novel, as Angela
Vicario is depicted as, still doing machine embroidery with her friends just as before she had made
cloth tulips and paper birds (García Márquez 93). Even as a rejected wife, Angela continues to make
cloth tulips, therefore demonstrating how desperate the women of this community are to maintain their
honor. As flowers symbolize purity, the fact that the flowers in the novel are artificial is important as it
represents a false representation of purity, thus further developing the idea of a gilded society.
Although the flowers are beautiful and vibrant, they are artificial, portraying the corrupt internal
nature of this Colombian village. Artificial flowers are implemented as a disguise used to display a
false truth. This gives the reader insight into Colombian culture, suggesting that flowers are used to
hide impurities. This translates over to the theme of the novel by developing the idea of a community
that is visually beautiful yet morally corrupt. García Márquez uses flowers to employ a social
commentary by depicting the

The Challenges of Donation Management Essay
As human beings, most of us have a natural instinct to take care of each other in a time of need. When
someone falls, you stop and help them up. So when a disaster happens, people want to help and make
everything alright. Those near and far to the disaster may show up and volunteer. Others want to help
by supplying material needs to the victims of the hazard. They began making donations in the forms
of food, water, clothing, medicines or other needed supplies called in kind donations or some

The donated supplies need storing until distribution and when there is a large supply of donations,
storage can become an issue. Buildings or warehouses may have to be rented to house the donations.
Sometimes there are too many donations or too many of one particular item. Many times there are not
enough donated items to meet needs. Other challenges include items not being suitable donations for a
particular disaster area, for example coats in warm climates or damaged, expired or unlabeled
medications. Distribution of the items also is a challenge. Sometimes getting the much needed
supplies out to the vulnerable victims is difficult. All of these challenges mean extra work and can be

hardships can be presented. The material items have to be handled and inspected by trained volunteers
which can become overwhelming. Some donated items are things not suitable for donating such as

Difference Between Theological Fatalism And Free Will Essay
In this paper, I will argue that it is almost impossible for someone to be free while all of his/her actions
are predicted by a higher being in such a way that he/she does not have the choice of choosing
between various courses of actions. In other words, I don t think that the concept of a fore
knowledgeable god and the concept of free will can be maintained together. First, I will broadly
describe free will. Second, I will explain, through the argument of theological fatalist, why there might
be a possibility, regardless of their opinion, have ever been free. Then, I will explain the dilemma that
there is between theological fatalism and free will. In addition, the Frankfurt solution will be
explained. Finally, critics of the Frankfurt solution will be mentioned and critiqued.
To begin with, free will is broadly defined as being able to choose between different courses of actions
without being restrained by any physical or divine forces ( Free Will , n.d.).
In addition, there is an argument called the theological fatalism argument that states that there is a
perfect supreme being who predicts all human courses of actions ( Fore Knowledge and Free Will ,
n.d.). From this argument, we might conclude that none of us have ever been free since all human acts
were predicted in advance by a divine being. Thus, leaving us unfree of choosing between various
possible courses of actions. Here are the basic premises of theological fatalism:
1) Yesterday God infallibly believed that a

Honesty Is The Best Policy
Benjamin Franklin, of one hundred dollar bill fame, once said that honesty is the best policy
(Franklin). This seems like a good thing, however if you use the common definition of honesty, of
never telling a lie, then I would disagree with dear Ben, honesty is not the best policy. If I had to
create my own definition of honesty to replace the common definition, I would say that to be honest,
would be to stay true. True to others, true to the world, and true to yourself. To get to how I came up
with this definition we have to go back to the common definition of honesty, which is not to tell lies.
Back when I was a much younger version of myself, in about 2nd grade or so, I remember telling
outrageous lies, lies that are completely impossible for an adult to achieve, much less a meager 2nd
grader. I remember a time when one of the other kids said that they have three dogs, and then someone
else said that they had four dogs, which was more than I had ever had, so I said that I had five dogs,
because having more dogs makes me cool, right? Well someone else said that they had more animals,
and someone else said they had even more animals, and then someone said that they have some exotic
animals, and it ended up with a table of 2nd graders who owned more animals than were in the entire
state of North Carolina and somehow kept them contained in suburban homes hidden away from the
ASPCA. I believe I ended up having an entire zoo stored somewhere in my closet, just behind my

Fice Of Child Protective Services
History tells us that child abuse and neglect have been present in the United States since its
origination. In an attempt to help prevent this from happening and supply aid to those in need, the
federal government created The Office of Child Protective Services. The Office of Child Protective
Services provides several functions for the Family Services Division of the Department of Human

For Many People (Both Male And Female), The Whole Idea
For many people (both male and female), the whole idea of menstruation is icky , yet this is a subject
that female clients (who are of reproductive age) should be asked about, whether they are in a
committed sexual relationship or not. Why? When girls get close to puberty, the endocrine system
activates hormones that begin to make changes in the body. Hormones, on the most basic level,
stimulate growth and the development of the reproductive system in both male and females. In
females, breasts develop, hair grows under the arms and pubic area and menstruation begins (King

In the event a woman has started her menstrual cycle and has had sexual intercourse, some of these
questions may be warranted if her period has suddenly ceased. Consequently, unusual physical,
emotional or other sudden changes may also be important to note. It is also a good teaching
opportunity for those who may not be as knowledgeable about sexually transmitted infections,
pregnancy, birth control, female anatomy and physiology or other issues they may want to discuss.
Should the subject be raised with male clients who are in a sexual relationship? Why or why not?
This question does not have an exact yes or no answer in my opinion. If a male client comes to a
counselor and wishes to discuss their sexual relationship then I would say yes. Once again, as most of
us noted in the sexuality quiz, we do not automatically or naturally have all the knowledge
surrounding the multitude of topics about human sexuality. I feel we should make our clients as
relaxed as possible discussing these subjects and be willing to listen and discuss with empathy. Males
may not know or understand premenstrual syndrome or its symptoms. Consequently, it may help them
to comprehend the implications that affect both he and his partner. If any of these issues are not
relevant or the male does not seem open to discussing them, then I do not feel the subject should be
raised. If the female is also a client, the counselor can not breach confidentiality to discuss her issues
with her partner.

Reflection On Learning Habits And Academic Success
Learning habits are skills taught or based off of an individual s personal experiences. There are several
different forms of learning habits, for example, working in a safe environment, collaborating with
others, independently working, being reliable, organized, showcasing initiative, having the ability to
possess self advocacy and to have the flexibility to provide customer service. In this reflection paper, I
will address ways these learning habits or skills aid in supporting my academic success. Also,
displaying the learning habits I already possess as an individual and capsizing on those skills or
patterns I have yet to develop. In summarizing my reflection, I will establish a plan I have for
promoting and supporting the learning habits I need to created still. Let s explore some of these
options that were associated with learning habits and skills.
As stated above learning habits consist of several different formalities; however, as a college student
these habits should contain being flexible to work with others, working in a healthy safe setting,
possessing the ability to work and student independently, being reliable, having a sense of
organizational system, taking the initiative for my actions, asking the appropriate questions to seek
clarification when discussing topics, and being able to efficiently listen to determine if I have
successfully comprehended the topic of discussion. Each of these factors will assist with my thriving
as a successful student. For example, taking the initiative will permit an individual to establish more
leadership roles, which as a nurse I do not mind helping anyone who needs help, which consists of
being open minded and flexible. Other incentives associated with these learning habits and student
require the student to be disciplined and proactive in their learning experiences. I have learned that
having discipline is to key to being a successful college student.
Some of the learning habits and skills that I already possess are listed as follows; I tend to seek clarity
to comprehend, which entails me analyzing and accessing the situation. These traits tend to make me
efficient as a nurse with displaying empathy to others while actively listening to their concerns. At

Sexual Orientation And Gender Identity
As mainstream media is now embracing the once taboo topics of sexual orientation and gender

biological, psychological, and social differences between the two. Since the phenomena of ¨coming

respectively, is a relatively recent anomaly, there is limited but contemporary research. The analyses
done so far indicate a universal and clear consensus signaling the separation and unrelated nature of
sexual orientation and gender identity. The American Psychological Association on their webpage
defines sexual orientation as ...the sex of those to whom one is sexually and romantically
attracted...research has suggested that sexual orientation does not always appear in such definable
categories and instead occurs on a continuum. In addition, some research indicates that sexual
orientation is fluid for some people. While in contrast, gender identity is defined as one s sense of
oneself as male, female, or transgender. Milton Diamond attempted to separate the aspects of one s

Why The United States Can Make Any Toys With Greater...
The United States can make certain toys with greater productive efficiency than can China. Yet we
import those toys from China. However the main reason why the U.S. has become so dependent upon
China for goods is that production costs are less in China than the U.S. Reduced production costs are
so attractive to companies the benefits of low cost production are passed on to customers with lower
prices on goods the relationships U.S. companies have with China are important because of the variety
of products available from China. Adam Smith born in 1723 was a Scottish political economist and
philosopher famous by his influential book The Wealth of Nations. Smith proposed in his book that a
nation s wealth should be judged not by this metric but by the total of its production and commerce.
Smith wrote in his book that that productive labor should be made even more productive by deepening
the division of labor. Smith describes the evolution through feudalism into a stage of society requiring
new institutions, such as market determined rather than guild determined wages and free rather than
government constrained enterprise. If a foreign country can SUPPLY us with a commodity cheaper
than we ourselves can make it, better buy it of them with some part of the produce of our own
industry, employed in a way in which we have some advantage. Relationships with China have proved
profitable for some major U.S. corporations. One of the reasons that the U.S. has become so

  • 2. The Steady Decline of Salmon Populations From the San Francisco Bay to streams and rivers of Oregon, salmon populations have been steadily decreasing over the past two decades but more rapidly within recent years. In general, fish populations in the Pacific Northwest region have always fluctuated, but the overall trend continues on a downward slope to extinction. While natural phenomena such as flooding and predators of the food chain do affect salmon populations, human activity poses the greatest threat by far. The four main reasons of salmon plummeting are as followed: Harvest, Hatcheries, Hydropower, and Habitat. It s clear that water ecosystems and management of human activity threaten salmon as a whole. Whether it s a bay, river or stream whatever body of water that contains salmon should be subject to ethics that guide our actions as a part of achieving a better overall environment. Salmon have a truly incredible life cycle. Like all fish, salmon spawn from female eggs and then go on to develop into alevin, which is a term for newly hatched fish. First off, they derive nourishment from the yolk sac from where the salmon are born. Once the sac has been absorbed, the fry, or baby fish, then emerges from the river gravel and starts the search for food. Fry instinctively deal with the river currents and learn to swim together as a school right away. Anywhere from a couple days to two years old, fry will continue to live in fresh water until they start the next, smolting, phase. Smolting is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What is this new development and how effective is it? What is Laser Hair Removal? Laser hair removal is a Cosmetic procedure that uses laser beams to remove unwanted hair from the body. The Moose By Elizabeth Bishop The poem The Moose by Elizabeth Bishop opens up by capturing the landscape and physical appearance of the Nova Scotia coast, where Bishop was taken to live with her grandparents in her younger days. As she is traveling to Boston she takes into account various images and perspectives she is seeing and hearing. Like some of Bishop s previous poems, The Moose focuses on the beauty and power of nature, and how nature can be almost a burden to our everyday life. Bishop does this by including vivid imagery, syntax, and alliteration throughout the poem. With Bishop being familiar with the Nova Scotia coast, she really has a connection in the poem with the landscape and what is going on around her, which the reader can appreciate throughout the first couple of stanzas. The reader can identify this connection with the vivid use of imagery Bishop portrays. She starts out the poem describing the scenery and a little bit of the culture that has surrounded her for most of her years. Lines 1 4 cite, From narrow provinces /of fish and bread and tea, / home of the long tides/ where the bay leaves the sea. With these particular lines, Bishop creates a soothing and comfortable image and tone. She sets the mood of the poem by the repetitive syntactical use of language. Bishop does a great job with this by having the reader appreciate what she is seeing and displaying a meaning of what is behind these long tides and the bay. She continues on with the third stanza describing the sunset ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Literary Analysis Of Blackberry Picking, By Seamus Heaney In life, people experience loss. Loss of a friend, a family member, or a significant other. Even though we don t always recognize it, death is inevitable. The loss that people experience may influence how they remember things and see the world. Seamus Heaney uses the speaker in the poem to show one way of dealing with death is to accept it. The nostalgic views of the speaker in the poem shows the speakers remembrance of picking the blackberries and even though the berries would rot too soon, the good memories of picking the berries would always outweigh the bad of them rotting. In Blackberry Picking , Seamus Heaney utilizes colorfully yet contrasting imagery, diction and structure to suggest that death is inevitable and loss isn t always the easiest thing to accept, but sometimes, that is the best way to handle it. First, The contrasting imagery of the poem represents life and death. At first, just one, a glossy purple clot among others, red, green, hard as a knot. the speaker uses the ripeness of a berry to represent a life. The red and green berries description of the bessies suggest they are not ready yet. I interpreted the berries to also represent the end of a pregnancy, where the mother is almost ready to give birth, but not quite yet. The glossy purple clot represents the berry finally being ready to be picked. This could also represent the actual birth of the baby. Later in the poem Heaney describes the berries having A rat grey fungus (19) and later describes the berries saying that The fruit fermented, the sweet flesh would turn sour. (21) I interpreted this imagery as representing death. As people get older, their hair often turns gray. Also, the fruit fermenting may represent the actual final death as the fruit rots and no longer lives. The contrasting imagery of the beginning and end of the very may very well represent the life and death of a person. As we go through life we begin as new, small, and tiny. When we age, we often become wrinkled and the aging shows not only with skin, but as well as the hair as stated before. As we grow older our interpretation of the world goes from pretty bright colors to dull, boring ones. Heaney s use of the imagery shows the audience that good things ... As such, social work is the major profession worldwide that helps individual people, families, groups, organizations, and communities to prevent or resolve problems in social and psychological functioning, meet basic human needs, achieve life enhancing goals, and create a just society. Jane Addams helped build social work during her time as a founder of the U.S. Settlement House Movement to establish settlement houses in poor urban areas for volunteer middle class social workers to alleviate the poverty of their low income neighbors. After the events of the previous century, Hungary remained divided into three distinct areas. The largest was Ottoman Hungary, under the direct control of Constantinople, which encompassed the south and south east of Hungary. Second, there was the Eastern Hungarian Kingdom founded by János Zápolyai in 1526, who after the defeat of the Hungarian forces at the First Battle of Mohács sought the support of Sultan Suleiman I to be crowned King of Hungary by a rival faction of the nobility and became the Sultan s vassal. János Zápolyai was also elected King by the majority of the nobility on November 11th. In order to cement his rule, Zápolyai was encouraged by a Polish noble and the French ambassador to Poland to enter an agreement with the Ottoman Sultan. As a result, Suleiman I supported Zápolyai and had him become his vassal. Suleiman then moved to expand further into Hungary and marched west, reaching Vienna in 1529. After the siege, heavy snowfall forced the Ottomans to retreat on October 14th, while Ferdinand secured the western province of Hungary. It was this division which remained the status quo until our period being studied, due to the exhaustion of the Ottoman machine of expansion. The result was the split of Hungary by the seventeenth century into the Habsburg controlled Royal Hungary in the west, the rival Principality of Transylvania in the east and the Ottoman controlled lands of the south and centre. The words do not appear to be randomly used, but they seem to have a pattern: the hard and soft sounds come in pairs. In the second line, we see, close bosom friend of the maturing sun. Close and bosom go together, with close being loud and soft with the hard c and soft s, and bosom being loud and soft with the b and s. The words maturing sun are not placed together haphazardly either. Maturing is a very hard word with the m and t sound; sun is a very soft word, beginning with an s. Again, Keats pairs a loud and a soft sound. This gives the whole stanza a generally loud, lively sound with a quiet hiss in the background. • 12. The Financial System Inquiry ( Fsi ) The Financial System Inquiry (FSI) acts as a model for achieving a resilient and efficient financial system, contributing to Australia s economic growth. The Capital requirements implemented according to the FSI has potential impacts on Australian banking system: 1. Increase in borrowing cost/ interest rate The recommendation that banks in Australia are required to hold additional capital would lead to an increase in the borrowing costs. Furthermore, the requirement of capital held in banks must be of a higher quality makes capital more expensive (FSI 2013). A 1% point increase in capital requirements is estimated to raise average interest on loan by less than 10 basis points, assuming that full cost is passed on to consumers (Mitchell 2013). In relation to that, Australia banks have to come up with repricing strategies to pass on the cost to consumers. However, the actual change in lending interest rates would be lower in a competitive market because RBA has can lower the cash rates in critical conditions. An increase in interest rate would lower real GDP by less than 0.1% points (Mitchell 2013). 2. Foregone opportunity cost The higher capital requirements would imply that banks need to use more capital funding and place larger constraints on banks sources and usage of funding (The banking system 2013). This would limit or forego banks opportunity to finance new projects (FSI 2013). 3. Reduced risk premium On the bright side, the tighter capital regulations would reduce ... In his most prevalent argument, Satan attempts to demonstrate to Eve that the act of eating has the ability to become a transformative experience. Though ultimately true, the transformation that Satan describes occurs far differently than the one she and Adam actually receive. In Christianity, food acts as such a significant force that Satan can almost seamlessly trick Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. As a student of philosophy I found myself disagreeing completely with Kant s view on animal rights. I recognize the differences between humans and animals, yet I believe that the differences do not separate animals from deserving rights. I am not entirely sure if the blame is on fast food industries or it has something to do with our unique genes. I grew up in American Samoa, a small island southwest of Hawaii, and health is not a priority in my community. One health challenge that I have witnessed while growing up in Samoa is the growing rate of obesity among the community. Therefore it is imperative that policy makers prudently evaluate the possible consequences and benefits of harmonized banking regulations, as demonstrated by similar regulations instituted domestically, before any such endeavor is embarked upon. During the 1930s, the most prominent reason for U.S. banking regulation was to prevent bank panics and more economic disaster like those that had been experienced during the Great Depression. Later deregulation and financial innovation in industrialized countries during the 1980s eroded banks monopoly power, thus weakening their banking systems and seeming to embody the fears of post Depression policy makers who instituted regulation in the first place. Fear that individual bank failures could spread across international borders creates pressure to harmonize bank regulation worldwide. In summary, it is a tiger shark that is preserved in a formaldehyde solution in a case of glass and steel. The case is separated into three parts, which most likely is because Hirst did not want the viewer to see and observe the piece as one whole dead shark. It is thought that this steel casing breaks the continuity of the shark and therefore, becomes less connectable as something familiar to the viewer. This shark is considered one of the most shocking pieces of American art. This is because this shark, for many people, seems to be a direct representation of death and is quite disturbing, and somewhat scary to look at, whether it be in person or in real life. Between 1765 and 1776, Adams s involvement in radical politics ran apace with the escalation of events. In 1770, he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and he later served as chief legal counsel to the Patriot faction and wrote several important resolutions for the lower house in its running battle with Governor Thomas Hutchinson. John Adams did not know who the artist of Massachusettensis was but he had a very strong feeling that it was Jonathan Sewell, later he discovered that his antagonist was Daniel Leonard. Many believe that John Adams played a role in the Boston Tea Party, but in actuality he had nothing to do with the Boston Tea Party, only thing Adams did was approve it. He felt it had reasonable motives, was very bold, and should be marked as a big moment in history. Adams believed British wouldn t respect the colonist rights unless someone forced them. That s how John Adams became one of the four most important Patriot leaders in Boston. After the Boston Tea Party, King George III grew highly furious because so much tea was destroyed and he closed the whole Boston port. Not only did King George III close the port of Boston but he was so extremely upset that he suspended all town meetings in Massachusetts colonies and instead of having Boston listed as the capital of Massachusetts, he made Salem the capital. Almond Trees In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Typically, audiences read mystery novels to find out who committed the crime or why the crime was committed however, in Chronicle of a Death Foretold the audience is aware of both motive and the killers. In fact, the reader soon discovers that most of the community knows the details surrounding the crime even before it takes place. The novel follows the narrator as he interrogates a Colombian village trying to make meaning behind the lack of intervention surrounding the death of Santiago Nasar, a death which could have been easily prevented. The final conclusion appears in the form of deep cultural concerns, which Gabriel García Márquez employs as a social commentary to portray the problems within his own culture. The use of artificial flowers represents women being forced to fake their virginity as to maintain their honor. This is especially seen towards the end of the novel, as Angela Vicario is depicted as, still doing machine embroidery with her friends just as before she had made cloth tulips and paper birds (García Márquez 93). Even as a rejected wife, Angela continues to make cloth tulips, therefore demonstrating how desperate the women of this community are to maintain their honor. As flowers symbolize purity, the fact that the flowers in the novel are artificial is important as it represents a false representation of purity, thus further developing the idea of a gilded society. Although the flowers are beautiful and vibrant, they are artificial, portraying the corrupt internal nature of this Colombian village. Artificial flowers are implemented as a disguise used to display a false truth. This gives the reader insight into Colombian culture, suggesting that flowers are used to hide impurities. This translates over to the theme of the novel by developing the idea of a community that is visually beautiful yet morally corrupt. • 30. Difference Between Theological Fatalism And Free Will Essay In this paper, I will argue that it is almost impossible for someone to be free while all of his/her actions are predicted by a higher being in such a way that he/she does not have the choice of choosing between various courses of actions. In other words, I don t think that the concept of a fore knowledgeable god and the concept of free will can be maintained together. First, I will broadly describe free will. Second, I will explain, through the argument of theological fatalist, why there might be a possibility, regardless of their opinion, have ever been free. Then, I will explain the dilemma that there is between theological fatalism and free will. In addition, the Frankfurt solution will be explained. Finally, critics of the Frankfurt solution will be mentioned and critiqued. To begin with, free will is broadly defined as being able to choose between different courses of actions without being restrained by any physical or divine forces ( Free Will , n.d.). In addition, there is an argument called the theological fatalism argument that states that there is a perfect supreme being who predicts all human courses of actions ( Fore Knowledge and Free Will , n.d.). From this argument, we might conclude that none of us have ever been free since all human acts were predicted in advance by a divine being. Thus, leaving us unfree of choosing between various possible courses of actions. Here are the basic premises of theological fatalism: 1) Yesterday God infallibly believed that a ... • 31. Honesty Is The Best Policy Benjamin Franklin, of one hundred dollar bill fame, once said that honesty is the best policy (Franklin). This seems like a good thing, however if you use the common definition of honesty, of never telling a lie, then I would disagree with dear Ben, honesty is not the best policy. If I had to create my own definition of honesty to replace the common definition, I would say that to be honest, would be to stay true. True to others, true to the world, and true to yourself. To get to how I came up with this definition we have to go back to the common definition of honesty, which is not to tell lies. Back when I was a much younger version of myself, in about 2nd grade or so, I remember telling outrageous lies, lies that are completely impossible for an adult to achieve, much less a meager 2nd grader. I remember a time when one of the other kids said that they have three dogs, and then someone else said that they had four dogs, which was more than I had ever had, so I said that I had five dogs, because having more dogs makes me cool, right? Well someone else said that they had more animals, and someone else said they had even more animals, and then someone said that they have some exotic animals, and it ended up with a table of 2nd graders who owned more animals than were in the entire state of North Carolina and somehow kept them contained in suburban homes hidden away from the ASPCA. Why? When girls get close to puberty, the endocrine system activates hormones that begin to make changes in the body. Hormones, on the most basic level, stimulate growth and the development of the reproductive system in both male and females. Should the subject be raised with male clients who are in a sexual relationship? Why or why not? This question does not have an exact yes or no answer in my opinion. If a male client comes to a counselor and wishes to discuss their sexual relationship then I would say yes. Once again, as most of us noted in the sexuality quiz, we do not automatically or naturally have all the knowledge surrounding the multitude of topics about human sexuality. I feel we should make our clients as relaxed as possible discussing these subjects and be willing to listen and discuss with empathy. Males may not know or understand premenstrual syndrome or its symptoms. Consequently, it may help them to comprehend the implications that affect both he and his partner. However the main reason why the U.S. has become so dependent upon China for goods is that production costs are less in China than the U.S. Reduced production costs are so attractive to companies the benefits of low cost production are passed on to customers with lower prices on goods the relationships U.S. companies have with China are important because of the variety of products available from China. Adam Smith born in 1723 was a Scottish political economist and philosopher famous by his influential book The Wealth of Nations. Smith proposed in his book that a nation s wealth should be judged not by this metric but by the total of its production and commerce. Smith wrote in his book that that productive labor should be made even more productive by deepening the division of labor. Smith describes the evolution through feudalism into a stage of society requiring new institutions, such as market determined rather than guild determined wages and free rather than government constrained enterprise.
