Torture in Guantanamo Bay
Torture in Guantanamo Bay Mohamed al Kahtani was a prisoner at Guantanamo Bay who endured
numerous disgusting and truly horrifying acts of torture. Being seduced by prostitutes and female
officers, told to act like a dog and forced to crawl on his hands and feet while barking, and forced to
urinate himself are just a few examples of the type of life prisoner s at Guantanamo Bay are living.
They are held in solitary confinement, while all day and night their lights in the rooms are kept on.
Each day prisoner s are tortured. Whether it is psychical or emotional torture, it is occurring all round
the camp. Prisoner s being tied down and forced to listen to extremely loud rock music for and
extended period of time is one of the tactics used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have beaten you, Winston. We have broken you up. You have seen what your body is like. Your
mind is in the same state. I do not think there can be much pride left in you. You have been kicked and
flogged and insulted, you have screamed with pain, you have rolled on the floor in your own blood
and vomit. You have whimpered for mercy, you have betrayed everybody and everything. Can you
think of a single degradation that has not happened to you? (Part 3, Chapter 3). Just like in the novel,
the official s beat and torture the prisoner s until they just completely give up, and confess to whatever
they are told to. Winston is tortured until he can take no more, and confess to acts he had no idea even
happened. Never again will you be capable of ordinary human feeling. Everything will be dead inside
of you. Never again will you be capable of love, or friendship, or joy of living, or laughter, or
curiosity, or courage, or integrity. You will be hollow. We shall squeeze you empty and than we shall
fill you with ourselves. A major part of the process of breaking one s will down is attacking their
mental state. Psychological warfare plays a huge part in the torture being done at Guantanamo. The
lights are kept on all day and night, confusing the detainees. This can confuse them and allows them to

Effects of Technology Essay
The Effects of Technology There is no escape from technology. In most cases this is not a problem
though. Many people respect and admire technology because it is there to benefit them. Without the
technological advances we have had over the years, the world would not be what it is today. What
people don #8217;t understand is that technology can actually be a bad thing. In society today, people
are looking for more and more ways to be entertained, and all it is doing is causing problems. People
are doing less and less thinking and more and more watching, listening, and playing, all because of
technology. Forms of entertainment like the Internet, television and even video games seem harmless
to people, but they are really not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People of all ages are addicted to television. On average, people watch about thirty hours of television
a week. But the people who go beyond this mark are known to society as #8220;couch potatoes
#8221;. The #8220;couch potatoes #8221; are the people who sit in front of the television for hours on
end, and will only get out of their seat to get something to drink or to go to the bathroom. Social
gatherings and even family communication is being affected by the amount of television people are
watching. At the beginning, people didn #8217;t know what they were going to do with a television,
but now the question is how could people survive without a television. The Internet and Television are
probably the two biggest technologies that are affecting people today. Video games though are another
technology that is affecting the individual, mainly teenagers and kids. Much like television, video
game problems come with the content of the game. Many of the video games on the market today are
structured toward violence. The objective of these games is to either beat your opponent up or kill
your opponent. Kids play these games, and much like television, see what the game is portraying and
feel it is all right to do the same things. Whether it is the Internet, television, or even video games,
technological advancements have their advantages and disadvantages. People never

The Three Most Difficult Things About Learning Russia
Russian is a beautiful and unique language. To everyone listening, it can sound soft, gentle, and
lyrical. It expands across eleven time zones and two continents. It is spoken by at least two million
people. It is a language with so much to offer. Russian has its fair share of a rich history, multiple
advantages and ways to learn it, easy parts, difficult parts, and interesting facts. Russian is an East
Slavic language. It is closely related to Ukrainian and Belarusian. All three are part of the Eastern
Slavonic group, which emerged in the tenth century. The Cyrillic alphabet, which is the alphabet used
to write in Russian, was invented in the ninth century. It is closely based on the Greek alphabet. Only
about a dozen letters were invented to represent Slavic sounds (History of The Russian Language).

Similarities Between Edith Wharton And Booker T Washington
Social Realism Social realism was a movement following the civil war where artists and writers would
focus and point out the conditions of the middle to lower working class. Unlike Regional realism,
social realism draws attention to the social structures and conditions that the majority of the
population was currently experiencing. Edith Wharton and Booker T Washington where two important
writers who wrote about their own experiences and of others to demonstrate the new social structure
changes at this time. The short story The Other Two by Edith Wharton is an excellent representation of
gender relation transformations and the nature of marriage at the turn of the century. In the beginning
of the story, we are introduced to a woman named Alice, whom has been divorced 2 times and is
currently on her 3rd marriage with a man named Mr. Waythorn. Mr. Waythorn is happy with his new
wife and is not bothered by the fact that she has already been married twice. Certain situations arise so
that Mr. Waythorn bumps into both of Alice s previous husbands. He is uncomfortable meeting them
at first however; he begins to have a new understanding of his wife. When Waythorn meets Mr.
Haskett, one of Alice s ex s, he becomes disturbed that he is kind and tender person who seems to
show a real gentleness to his daughter. He had never seen her more ... Show more content on

William Wordsworth And The Creation Of The Romantic Movement
William Wordsworth and the Creation of the Romantic Movement William Wordsworth (7 April 1770
23 April 1850) was a English Romantic poet. Wordsworth s earliest poetry was published in 1793 in
the collections An Evening Walk and Descriptive Sketches. In 1795 he met Samuel Coleridge
(Encyclopedia.com), and produced Lyrical Ballads first published in 1978, it is largely credited as the
work that begain the English Romantic movement. In the third edition of Lyrical Ballads published in
1802 the Preface to Lyrical Ballads was added to the poems and on page 242, Wordsworth gave his
now famous poetry definition as being the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its
origin from emotion recollected in tranquility . In 1798 The Prelude, perhaps one of the greatest works
of English literature was first published. It is a long autobiographical poem that is a personal history of
the growth of Wordsworth s own mind. It was a constant work in progress, with Wordsworth working
on it until his death in 1850. Lyrical Ballads published in 1798 is considered to be the fist mark of the
English Romantic movement in literature. The Romantic period of literature, covered from about 1798
to 1832 and emphasizes nature, imagination, and the move from strictly scientific knowledge to the
knowledge of experience (A Guide to the Study of Literature). According to the International Journal

Social Media Has Changed The Expectations Of Social...
Today, the average person spends at least two hours a day on social media sites. Through social media,
texting, and online chatrooms, people can communicate with others that they would otherwise have no
contact with. For this topic, it is important to define what friendship really means. Some have argued
that a friend is someone they talk with; others say it s someone they ve shared an experience with. For
this essay, friendship will be defined as someone who is kept in constant contact with through and
outside of the internet. The majority of effects seen from technology are negative: from decreased in
person social interactions, to loss of identity, and ultimately the watering down of friendships. Social
media has changed the expectations of social relationships. While technology does allow users to stay
connected with family and friends from varying distances, technology s negative effects also make it
harder to maintain those relationships and have a lasting impact on how people will pursue their future
relationships.
With the rise of social media and other forms of online communication, people have the opportunity to
connect with old and new friends alike. However, this connection through technology has changed
how people view friendship. In his article Faux Friendships, William Deresiewicz discusses how much
the ideas of friendship have changed over time. He argues that ...friendship, for the ancients, was rare,
precious, and hard won, but now, We can be friends

Pornography Causes Desensitization, Aggression, and Alienation
A pair of long luscious, shapely legs extend upward until they join in perfect harmony. Colorful
panties cover what seem to be the smallest area possible as a slim torso with shapely breasts and a
slender neck lead to a perfect face. There she is, the perfect woman, the perfect picture of lust. Yet, she
is only a picture, but what unbelievable power she possesses. Any man who looks her way will
question his desires and himself. Who will resist her temptation and who will give in is the only
question left without an answer.

So, when viewing, hearing, or sensing sexual materials, stress occurs and a neuro chemical response
by the right side of the brain takes place. When sexual stress transpires, it triggers physiological
mechanisms. Anxiety mobilizes the body and puts it into top condition to cope. The brain releases
chemicals, which seep into the pituitary gland, releasing a stress hormone called adrenocorticotropic
hormone. This in turn stimulates: the bronchial tubes to relax for deeper breathing, the blood sugar to
increase for maximum energy, the increase of blood pressure, and the organs of sight, sound, and sex.
Now if pornography was just fantasy, the left side of the brain would be telling the right that there s
nothing to get excited about, and none of the above behavior would occur (Reisman 17 19).
Another point to be made is that when high arousal occurs, our bodies emergency system is triggered.
A person s vitals can be differentiated by observing them look at a Times magazine and then look at a
Playboy magazine. If a person s vitals are obviously changed, the person has a normal sense of
arousal; but if the response to both magazines is similar, a level of desensitization has occurred
(Reisman 21). The latter response usually takes place after prolonged exposure to pornography. When
the brain adapts to a specific sensation, arousal is dramatically reduced, leaving the user with the
compulsion to seek out more to reach the

This premise is so important that many companies now use web based matching systems to help
match mentors and protégés (Noe, 2010). Companies can also utilize software to also build
development plans, set goals and track the mentors and protégés progress. Wyndham s hotel chain
found that their mentorship program participation tripled once they introduced the web based
matching system (Noe, 2010).
Coaching, normally utilized at the managerial level, provides employees with resources that they
might not normally have access to, such as mentors, courses and job experiences (Noe, 2010). It is
imperative that the right coaches are selected for these developmental programs. The best coaches are
those that are empathetic, supportive, practical, and self confident while appearing to not know it all or
want to tell others what to do (Noe, 2010). By providing coaching to new managers, it teaches them
how to deal with a variety of situations in the workplace while maintaining professionalism and the
corporate goals.
In conclusion, while conducting this review, I found that this chapter offered many tools that can be
utilized to develop an effective training plan. While any form of employee development is beneficial,
mentoring and coaching have proven to be very effective. By offering these volunteer programs, it
allows all parties involved, the mentor,

The Media Causes Eating Disorders Essay
According to the National Eating Disorder Association the media has a major influence on what a
woman s body should look like. Every print and television advertisement suggests that the ideal body
is extremely thin. However, most women cannot achieve having a super thin body that the media
favors. The resulting failure leads to negative feelings about one s self and can begin a downward
spiral toward an eating disorder (National Eating Disorders Association). A particularly disturbing fact
is that research has demonstrated that children as young as five years of age are experiencing body

according to American society is an image of a woman just short of starvation (Mary Pipher, People

Sequence Matching And Pattern Matching
INTRODUCTION : Pattern matching is a programming language method which is considered as
important in functional programming. It is uses STRING MATCHING and PATTERN
RECOGNITION. The main job of pattern matching is to check and decompose data. The object
oriented programming languages do not have any particular method for this decomposition of data. So
the Object oriented programmers are in need for a solutions for this problem of decomposition .For
that problem as a solution a built in pattern matching construct is introduced which is compatible with
object oriented programming is proposed. And the data is to be defined separately for the operation on
data to make matching useful. Pattern matching is presented in two ways, ... Show more content on

If the given input pattern matches , the pattern variables are bound to corresponding parts in the input
value and the relative branch is executed in the an environment that improves with the pattern variable

techniques. The object oriented way of analyzing and performing operations on data: Object oriented
design is a method and style for software system development that amounts to encapsulating data and
operations in abstractions. This method produces some abstractions that are usually implemented in an
object oriented programming language, which supports the object oriented style through its syntax and
semantics. It does so by providing an object model and by offering built in methods for object
construction, method calls, field access and deletion of objects. Classifying abstractions and taking
them apart into their subcomponents is not a built in construct of object oriented programming
languages.
Pattern matching will offer: Not only Readability and security, a high level method for pattern

are mentioned above is that the standard compilers can not check hand written case distinctions are
based on type tests and type casts cover all the cases, or all branches can actually be entered. Pattern

Gatorade Lab Report
Background
The growth and survival of a plant depends on the reactions that occur internally called
photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a reaction that captures the sun s energy and converts it, water, and
carbon dioxide into glucose, with a byproduct of oxygen. Glucose is a sugar that provides energy to
allow for a plant to grow and live. This experiment is to test how photosynthesis can be sped up with a
home solution. The variable being changed in this experiment is the solution that the plant is being
given. In this instance, some of the plants will be given Gatorade, rather than water. The question
being asked is, How well will a solution found in the home affect plant growth?
My hypothesis is that, if a plant is given Gatorade instead of water, then it will grow more quickly
than if the plant is just given water. This is because of the components of Gatorade. Gatorade contains
water, a key component of plant growth. But, because Gatorade contains various vitamins, sugars, and
electrolytes, the plant should already be supplied with some of the products of photosynthesis, so the
plant should produce sugars at a normal rate, plus have the additional bonus from the Gatorade.

Social Deviance
The reproductions of babies are fundamental to life and the ongoing creation of human kind. Our
whole world must face all the great and the not so great that come with the bearing of a child. This
involves mothers having the option to care and nurture their child where ever and whenever they
please, such as breast feeding in public if it were to be an option. However, overtime societies view
and perspective on breast feeding has become more of a deviant act then it was many years ago. While
looking at the deviance of breast feeding in public overtime, it can be viewed in the lenses of social
norms that are divided into 2 groups: folkways and mores. Breast feeding can also fall under the
category of labeling theory and conflict perspective can also play a role in the deviance of social
construct. William Sumner is the genius that decided to place norm into separate groups, such as,
folkway and mores in the year 1906. (The Editors) Folkway is described as the everyday norm that is
based on tradition, custom and mannerism. (Ferrante, 2015) And if a person decides not to follow
through with the folkway norm then it would possibly cause others to think that they are strange or
different from others around them, but it would not cause any type conflict. Folkway connects with
breast feeding if one believes in Christianity and the Virgin Mary because it is said that if one
witnesses the Virgin Mary breast feeding or nursing whether it is through a dream, art or real historical

Subculture
There is something about the ideology of a subculture that sparks an interest in me. Maybe it is
intriguing due to its members originality, courage to stand up for beliefs, or freely expressing their

mainstream, and forming their own distinctive norms, not caring what the normal members of the
mainstream society think of them. Or do they care? Maybe that is the exact statement a subculture is

Most of the original rebellion was directed towards the British class structure. They wanted to express
their disapproval of the structure that governed their country. In The Jam s Eton Rifles , the band
sarcastically attacks the upper class, calling them arrogant and preaching to them that rugby is the only
thing making them strong (Punk 68). The Sex Pistols album God Save The Queen portrays the Queen
of England with a safety pin through her nose on their cover. The reaction to this outburst of shocking
rebellion from the mainstream society was a strong, displeased one. American writer Greil Marcus
defined punk as, ...refusing the future society has planned for you. Thousands of social misfits
attempted just that. Through the many causes for this rebellious political expression: communism,
anarchy, feminism, etc., the punks of England had a focus and a reason. It was this that made the punk
a valid, yet undesired member of society, and the British public got to see this sociological change first
hand (Chamberlain par.8). Although this movement was short lived, its impact was a phenomenon,
and its effects were long lasting, which distinguished this group from previous generations.
Anyone observing a groups of punks moving through Leicester Square on a Friday night would steer
well clear: these guys looked seriously strange, Chamberlain stated. Punks had an external image that

Hawaii Volcanoes Essay
There are many different types of volcanoes in the United States. Composite, Ciner and Shield are the
three types of volcanoes. Over the history of Hawaii, covering about 85 million years, there have been
129 volcanoes formed due to the hot spot and of that 129, 123 of them are extinct or seamounts. In
Hawaii today, there are currently five active volcanoes, Lo ihi, Kilauea, Mauna Loa, Hualalai and
Haleakala. Lo ihi is the only underwater volcano in Hawaii; the other four volcanoes are above sea
level. Kilauea is a hyperactive shield type volcano. Volcanoes are mainly found where tectonic plates
are diverging or converging. The Mid Ocean Ridge is an example of divergent tectonic plates pulling
apart, where the Ring of Fire is an example of convergent tectonic plates pushing together. Hawaii
today is comprised of many different volcanoes with several different volcano types. The Hawaiian

Lo ihi is an underground seamount which reaches about 3,000 meters above the sea floor. Before,
people did not consider Lo ihi to be an active volcano, instead just a common old seamount volcano,
the same type to surround the islands of Hawaii. After doing some research it was discovered that this
volcano was in fact an active one, instead of an old dead seamount. In August 1996 Lo ihi volcano
rumbled to life again with a vengeance and has been intermittently active since. In fact, University of
Hawaii scientists studying the seamount following the 1996 seismic swarm have found direct evidence
of a volcanic eruption there in 1996, making this the first confirmed historical eruption of the
seamount. (Ken Rubin and Brian Glazer, 2014). Today, Lo ihi remains quiet but in recent years such
as in 2005, Lo ihi had about 100 earthquakes beneath her and in 2006 she had an earthquake reported

Celebrities That Are Good Role Models
The world through the eyes of some can be looked at as a mirror. From birth we are beings that are
constantly watching. Babies and kids watch everything that is put in front of them; parents, siblings,
television, and other kids that are around. This is especially true when it comes to celebrities. Every
day in the modern world we as a society are exposed to the media, which tells us that celebrities can
be viewed as good or bad role models. There are many celebrities that can do good things for the
world and model behavior that is honorable; through this we as a society can mirror that behavior in
our everyday lives. One celebrity who is an extremely talented model and talk show host, Tyra Banks,

do a bit more with their money than the average person. A charity, being a vivid example in celebrities

Goldratt s The Goal
When goals are established there are a set of rules put in place to meet a certain criteria. Depending on
the severity of the goal, one could establish policies that go against the system. In the novel The Goal
by Eliyahu Goldratt, Alex does just that. Alex the main character of the novel is put in between a rock
and a hard place. There are only two ways out, which are to either quit or to fix the problems in a span
of 6 months. There are numerous ways and processes that are implemented for the factory to get out of
the slump, but being that this is from a managers perspective I have gained knowledge on three major

from college, Jonah. (60 62) There is little small talk as Jonah asks what the problem is and suggests a
few ideas and even terms Alex has to brush up on. When looking in from the outside you get a bigger

but Jonah doesn t give all the answers or information at once. He makes Alex find out the answers

Summary Of The Urban Legend Of Fairfax County
During the summer of 2011, I went to visit my cousins that lived in Fairfax County. One night there
was a tornado warning, and the strong winds and rain had cut off all the power to the house. All we
had to that night was tell stories, and one tale brought up was about the county we were in. While the
urban legend intrigued me, you could easily identify the overarching message of the tale which was to
be cautious at night. According to the legend, in 1904 an insane asylum was being shut down per
request from residents of Fairfax County. During the transfer there was an accident allowing the
inmates to escape into a forest. While some were detained, others were killed because of their
hostility. Police officers were able to find all but two people, Marcus and Douglas that were still
missing. Local police officers followed a trail of dead rabbits in the forest that lead them to a bridge.
Hanging from the bridge was Marcus with a note attached to his foot that read: you ll never find the
bunny man . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s about a very troubled man that attacking innocent people. The urban legend first began to gain
traction in the 1970s. What it tells us about the time in which it originated is how mental health was
perceived. Upon hearing the story, I was frightened which is what it aimed to do. The story was
created to scare us, but why does it also evoke fear of those with mental illness as well? The legend
associates those institutionalized in an asylum as being murderers, when in reality they re mutually
exclusive. Being institutionalized doesn t mean you re killer. The transfer of inmates in the urban
legend only occurred per request of the residents of Fairfax. They didn t want an asylum in their
county, because of how they perceived the patients as being a threat to their safety. The story only
goes on to confirm that it the right decision to move people in the insane asylum, because they turned

Black Power as Interpreted by Stokely Carmichael Essay
Black Power, the seemingly omnipresent term that is ever so often referenced when one deals with the
topic of Black equality in the U.S. While progress, or at least the illusion of progress, has occurred
over the past century, many of the issues that continue to plague the Black (as well as other minority)
communities have yet to be truly addressed. The dark cloud of rampant individual racism may have
passed from a general perspective, but many sociologists, including Stokely Carmichael; the author of
Black Power: the Politics of Liberation in America , have and continue to argue that the oppressive
hand of institutional racism still holds down the Black community from making any true progress.
Carmichael views America as a system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This question of intentions is one that is most apparent in the case of forming coalitions with potential
allies for the cause of progress in Black liberation. On the surface, the stances of many groups create
the appearance that they would be effective allies in the fight for social reform for Blacks. Except, as
pointed out by Carmichael, not only might the apparent overlap of interest between Blacks and groups
such as liberal left wing Democrats be nothing more than illusory in nature, but there are a myriad of
other important variables to contend with when picking practical, trustworthy allies.
One might argue that being extremely picky in the manner with which Blacks should choose their
allies will only do harm by slowing the growth and potential of their cause in the long run, but in the
context of Carmichael s ideas, not only is picking the right allies important, but perhaps absolutely
necessary. His idea makes sense, for gains made as a coalition would be distributed through the
coalition as a whole, and not just Blacks. This distribution of social profits is where the importance of
good allies lies. As is the case in the nation as a whole, Blacks themselves do not possess much power,
which leaves them in a state of not being able to exert much control over matters of social change.
These very same things can occur when dealing with coalitions.
When a battle has been won and the spoils of some sort of social gain must be distributed, a

Canaan is in Israel. The books of the bible where Canaan is located is Genesis, Exodus, Numbers,

before Christ century because it did take its place in so many books of the bible. Especially in Joshua
where the conquest took place in Canaan. Canaan is also known as the promise land. The whole book
of Joshua talks about the conquest of Canaan. Then it also talks about the division of Canaan. Around
1400 BC The Amarna Tablets refer to a period of chaos in Canaan. (Hindson Towns, 2013, pg.49)
Also in the book of Genesis from chapters 12 36 it talks about Joseph s arrival in Egypt which mostly
took place in Canaan. It looks to me that Canaan had a really big part of the Old Testament and
without Canaan where would we be today. I would say nowhere because it was a well known place.

The Types Of Insurance Commercials
You need insurance If you haven t seen an All State or State Farm commercial you probably should

marketing communication covers a wide range of people from 18 year old teenage boys to even 80

sizes. The scale goes from your car hitting a stationary object to even an object hitting your stationary
car, we got it covered! The goal is to highlight a company s qualities in an effort to generate a likely

problems are devastating, insurance companies put a humorous spin on the commercial to show they

Bad Hooks Catch No Fish
Bad Hooks Catch No Fish
A good hook is what, best, brings a reader into any form of writing. If not, then all could be lost,
unless it is mentally forced upon. This is especially true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting
into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin s (2005) essay, on Hemingway
s Hills like White Elephants, lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word could throw a reader
in the opposite direction Rankin would have hoped for. The beginning paragraphs poor lead could
cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a poor asset to novice readers.
With the opening word Although (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was
presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this complete though could be. With this lingering thought
of what was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a continuation of
the leading thought. Now for someone venturing into the literary scene, to read a sentence of this
magnitude, could become hesitant to continue. Although, the composition of the first sentence is
artful, it could still be a hard read. Which, from a scholar s perspective is refreshing and at par. But the
little guy becoming a scholar has not earned his letterman mark yet. It is wise to be careful into
reading a sentence with complex composition of over 100 words. Additionally, the first sentence, a
summation of multiple views could introduce a novice

Servant Leadership Essay
Servant Leadership is a leadership style that leads by example, does not take credit for deeds done,

the highest needs of others to help another individual achieve their personal goals. Servant leadership

The Human Of Human Cloning
1. INTRODUCTION
Human cloning is the creation of a genetically identical copy of a human. However, this term not only
refers to the entire artificial human, but also the reproduction of human cells and tissues. There are
two types of theoretical human cloning: reproductive cloning which would involve making an entire
cloned human and the other, therapeutic cloning, which would involve cloning cells from a human for
use in medicine and transplants by somatic cell nuclear transfer or pluripotent stem cell induction. In
reproductive cloning the entire genetic code is reproduced from a single body cell of an adult
individual. The most common cloning technique is somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). The
procedure is as follows:

2. ISSUES
Although the human cloning seems fairly beneficial and useful for human welfare, the possibility of
human cloning has raised controversies. Concerning reproductive cloning, advocates believe that
parents who cannot otherwise procreate should have access to the technology. Some opponents have
concerns that technology is not yet developed enough to be safe while others emphasize that
reproductive cloning could be prone to abuse (leading to the generation of humans whose organs and
tissues would be harvested), and have concerns about how cloned individuals could integrate with
families and with society at large. With regards to therapeutic cloning, the problem is that many
attempts are often required to create a viable egg. The stability of the egg with the infused somatic
nucleus is poor and it can require hundreds of attempts before success is attained. Therapeutic cloning
does result in the destruction of an embryo after stem cells are extracted and this destruction has
stirred controversy over the morality of the procedure. Some argue that the pros outweigh the cons
with regards to treating disease and support development of therapeutic cloning in order to generate
tissues and whole

Voltaire s Portrait Of Religious Figures In Candide
Prompt: Discuss Voltaire s portrait of religious figures in Candide. Voltaire made heavy connections to
religion throughout the story of Candide. The story relates mostly towards Christianity because of its
popularity at the time, but Voltaire also relates to Judaism and Islam. Voltaire focused on making a
mockery of each religious figure in the story.
Voltaire was a famous philosopher that was strongly against an organized religion. A quote from
Candide shows Voltaire curiosity of life in general. The quote states, But for what purpose was the
earth formed? He believed in a more open religion rather than a set religion in which you had to
strongly abide by. In Candide, the main character comes across many different religious figures in
which are depicted as corrupt. This includes the Inquisitor, the Jesuit Baron and the Protestant
minister. Voltaire depicts each of these religious figures as self righteous and morally corrupt.
Although, Voltaire does make an exception with the Anabaptist. Anabaptists were often persecuted

He viewed them as untrustworthy and hypocritical. He continuously uses satire to mock multiple
religions for not demonstrating the practices that they promote. However, Voltaire does defend the
Anabaptist due to the discrimination against Anabaptists in that time period. The death of the
Anabaptists shows that even though a person lives the right way, bad things still happen in this world.
Voltaire promotes that religion is what oneself makes of it. An example of this is shown by the sage in
El Dorado. After being asked how they pray to God, the sage responds and says, We do not pray to
him at all. We have nothing to ask of him. He has given us all we want, and we give him thanks
continually. The sage shows that they do not pray as most organized religions reach, but instead thank

International Organizations And International Trade...
When it comes to the political set up of the international organizations that positively and negatively
affects poorer nations can be classified in realist s point of view as powerful nations lobbying the
international organizations to pass their agenda that affects smaller countries in the interests of
promoting national hegemonic power. As a results, of this, regardless of the debts accumulated by
powerful international organization s veto power, they are still on top of the average poor nation
because of its political hegemonic power and influence over International Organizations. The
economic policies set by hegemonic powers to be passed down to the small nations by the

If Gambia failed to secure that assistance, it will further hurt its economy because the country was
running with deficit and the IMF described the then current economic state of the Gambia as external
and fiscal sustainability are at a grave risk. Moreover, in the absence of urgent action, the social
progress made in recent years is also under threat. When it comes to the interaction of the United
Nations and the Gambia, many sustainable achievement were secured and was able to help develop
Gambia physically and environmentally. There were United Nations children s fund that helped young
children of the poorer nations to benefit from basic needs like education, infrastructure, human rights
improvements and bias and draconian media laws that targets private media journalists. Gambia
government lost many of its reputation as a result of not living up to expectations of the international
organizations in protecting the fundamental human rights of its citizens irrespective of the individual s
political affiliation. Draconian media Laws results in the shooting death of Gambia prominent
journalist Deyda Hydara, the owner of ThePointNewspaper . He was shot to dead and the Gambia
government denied the allegation and they refused to investigate it and also refused international
organizations to coinvestigate the matter. The Gambia president was

Noise Is The Unwanted Sound
ABSTRACT:
Noise is the unwanted sound. With the development all around the sources of unwanted sound are
increasing day by day by knowingly or unknowingly. Hence the noise monitoring at two silence and
two commercial zones in the Visakhapatnam city was carried out. The locations for Silence zone were
Sri Shanthi Ashram and Biodiversity Park and for Commercial zones were Purna Market and
Dabagarden . The results show that the equivalent noise levels are higher in the both commercial
zones than the both silence zones with clear differences. The Noise levels are least at Biodiversity
Park and highest at Purna Market. However, the noise levels at all the places are exceeding over the
set limits described by the Central Pollution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Observational and experimental studies have shown that noise exposure leads to annoyance, disturbs
sleep and causes daytime sleepiness, affects patient outcomes and staff performance in hospitals,
increases the occurrence of hypertension and cardiovascular disease, and impairs cognitive
performance in schoolchildren4. It was found that 60 85% people opined that vehicular road traffic
was major source of noise pollution and creates annoyance among people. Most of the population is
suffering from frequent irritation and common noise related problems like headache or loss of sleep5.
In the present study, two locations were selected to carry out ambient noise survey in Visakhapatnam
City. Visakhapatnam is a coastal, port city, often called The Jewel of the East Coast , situated in the of
Andhra Pradesh, located on the eastern shore of India, nestled among the hills of the Eastern Ghats
and facing the Bay of Bengal to the east. It is the largest city in Andhra Pradesh and it is primarily an
industrial city, apart from being a port city. Visakhapatnam is district headquarter in Andhra Pradesh
State. It is a coastal city with all types of connectivity from land, sea and air.
MATERIAL AND METHOD The noise monitoring was carried out in two zones viz. Silence and
commercial zones taking two locations each for respective zones in different parts of the city of
Visakhapatnam. The locations for Silence zone were Sri Shanthi Ashram and Biodiversity

Graph Lab Report
All three graphs displayed a similar graph shape. The absorbance values increased with an increase in
temperature. Each graph plateaued at various temperatures. C. perfringens plateaued first, followed by
the DNA of the calf thymus and finally E. coli.
2. Tm values
C. perfringens 80.5°C
Calf Thymus 87.5°C
E. coli 91°C
GC content
C. perfringens GC content = (Tm 69.3) × 2.44 = (80.5 69.3) × 2.44 = 28.55 %
Calf Thymus GC content = (Tm 69.3) × 2.44 = (87.5 69.3)×2.44
= 44.41%
E. coli GC content = (Tm 69.3) × 2.44
= (91 69.3)×2.44
= 52.95%
Discussion:
The Tm of the genomic DNA from each species differed depending on the GC content of the sample.
Guanine and Cytosine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A higher pH has a negative effect on the DNA s stability, which results in the lowering of the melting
temperature. Raising the pH strips the H+ shared between the nitrogenous base electronegative centres
from the hydrogen bond. The loss of hydrogen bonds between two complementary strands results in
separation. The increase in pH will deprotonate the bases and will exist as negatively charged
conjugate bases. As the deprotonated species, the hydrogen bonding between the bases G and C; and A
and T are eliminated.
The curves for all pH values displayed a similar shape. The higher the pH, the sooner the curve
reached a plateau i.e. the maximum absorbance was reached. At pH 9.3, the lowest melting
temperature of 82°C was seen. At pH 5.4, the highest melting temperature of 90.5°C was seen. This
confirms the inverse relationship between Tm and pH conditions of the DNA strand.
The absorption is decreased due to base stacking interactions. When DNA is denatured, these
interactions are disrupted and an increase in absorbance is

  • 2. Torture in Guantanamo Bay Torture in Guantanamo Bay Mohamed al Kahtani was a prisoner at Guantanamo Bay who endured numerous disgusting and truly horrifying acts of torture. Being seduced by prostitutes and female officers, told to act like a dog and forced to crawl on his hands and feet while barking, and forced to urinate himself are just a few examples of the type of life prisoner s at Guantanamo Bay are living. They are held in solitary confinement, while all day and night their lights in the rooms are kept on. Each day prisoner s are tortured. Whether it is psychical or emotional torture, it is occurring all round the camp. Prisoner s being tied down and forced to listen to extremely loud rock music for and extended period of time is one of the tactics used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have beaten you, Winston. We have broken you up. You have seen what your body is like. Your mind is in the same state. I do not think there can be much pride left in you. You have been kicked and flogged and insulted, you have screamed with pain, you have rolled on the floor in your own blood and vomit. For this essay, friendship will be defined as someone who is kept in constant contact with through and outside of the internet. The majority of effects seen from technology are negative: from decreased in person social interactions, to loss of identity, and ultimately the watering down of friendships. Social media has changed the expectations of social relationships. While technology does allow users to stay connected with family and friends from varying distances, technology s negative effects also make it harder to maintain those relationships and have a lasting impact on how people will pursue their future relationships. So, when viewing, hearing, or sensing sexual materials, stress occurs and a neuro chemical response by the right side of the brain takes place. When sexual stress transpires, it triggers physiological mechanisms. Anxiety mobilizes the body and puts it into top condition to cope. The brain releases chemicals, which seep into the pituitary gland, releasing a stress hormone called adrenocorticotropic hormone. This in turn stimulates: the bronchial tubes to relax for deeper breathing, the blood sugar to increase for maximum energy, the increase of blood pressure, and the organs of sight, sound, and sex. Now if pornography was just fantasy, the left side of the brain would be telling the right that there s nothing to get excited about, and none of the above behavior would occur (Reisman 17 19). Another point to be made is that when high arousal occurs, our bodies emergency system is triggered. A person s vitals can be differentiated by observing them look at a Times magazine and then look at a Playboy magazine. • 16. Gatorade Lab Report Background The growth and survival of a plant depends on the reactions that occur internally called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a reaction that captures the sun s energy and converts it, water, and carbon dioxide into glucose, with a byproduct of oxygen. Glucose is a sugar that provides energy to allow for a plant to grow and live. This experiment is to test how photosynthesis can be sped up with a home solution. The variable being changed in this experiment is the solution that the plant is being given. In this instance, some of the plants will be given Gatorade, rather than water. The question being asked is, How well will a solution found in the home affect plant growth? My hypothesis is that, if a plant is given Gatorade instead of water, then it will grow more quickly than if the plant is just given water. This is because of the components of Gatorade. Gatorade contains water, a key component of plant growth. But, because Gatorade contains various vitamins, sugars, and electrolytes, the plant should already be supplied with some of the products of photosynthesis, so the plant should produce sugars at a normal rate, plus have the additional bonus from the Gatorade. Procedure Four cups of equal size were filled with one cup of garden soil. Lima beans were planted at an equal depth (one inch as instructed on the bag). • 24. Summary Of The Urban Legend Of Fairfax County During the summer of 2011, I went to visit my cousins that lived in Fairfax County. One night there was a tornado warning, and the strong winds and rain had cut off all the power to the house. All we had to that night was tell stories, and one tale brought up was about the county we were in. While the urban legend intrigued me, you could easily identify the overarching message of the tale which was to be cautious at night. According to the legend, in 1904 an insane asylum was being shut down per request from residents of Fairfax County. During the transfer there was an accident allowing the inmates to escape into a forest. While some were detained, others were killed because of their hostility. Police officers were able to find all but two people, Marcus and Douglas that were still missing. Local police officers followed a trail of dead rabbits in the forest that lead them to a bridge. • 25. Black Power as Interpreted by Stokely Carmichael Essay Black Power, the seemingly omnipresent term that is ever so often referenced when one deals with the topic of Black equality in the U.S. While progress, or at least the illusion of progress, has occurred over the past century, many of the issues that continue to plague the Black (as well as other minority) communities have yet to be truly addressed. The dark cloud of rampant individual racism may have passed from a general perspective, but many sociologists, including Stokely Carmichael; the author of Black Power: the Politics of Liberation in America , have and continue to argue that the oppressive hand of institutional racism still holds down the Black community from making any true progress. Carmichael views America as a system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This question of intentions is one that is most apparent in the case of forming coalitions with potential allies for the cause of progress in Black liberation. On the surface, the stances of many groups create the appearance that they would be effective allies in the fight for social reform for Blacks. Except, as pointed out by Carmichael, not only might the apparent overlap of interest between Blacks and groups such as liberal left wing Democrats be nothing more than illusory in nature, but there are a myriad of other important variables to contend with when picking practical, trustworthy allies. One might argue that being extremely picky in the manner with which Blacks should choose their allies will only do harm by slowing the growth and potential of their cause in the long run, but in the context of Carmichael s ideas, not only is picking the right allies important, but perhaps absolutely necessary. His idea makes sense, for gains made as a coalition would be distributed through the coalition as a whole, and not just Blacks. This distribution of social profits is where the importance of good allies lies. As is the case in the nation as a whole, Blacks themselves do not possess much power, which leaves them in a state of not being able to exert much control over matters of social change. These very same things can occur when dealing with coalitions. When a battle has been won and the spoils of some sort of social gain must be distributed, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is especially true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin s (2005) essay, on Hemingway s Hills like White Elephants, lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word could throw a reader in the opposite direction Rankin would have hoped for. The beginning paragraphs poor lead could cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a poor asset to novice readers. With the opening word Although (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this complete though could be. With this lingering thought of what was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a continuation of the leading thought. Now for someone venturing into the literary scene, to read a sentence of this magnitude, could become hesitant to continue. Although, the composition of the first sentence is artful, it could still be a hard read. Which, from a scholar s perspective is refreshing and at par. But the little guy becoming a scholar has not earned his letterman mark yet. It is wise to be careful into reading a sentence with complex composition of over 100 words. Some opponents have concerns that technology is not yet developed enough to be safe while others emphasize that reproductive cloning could be prone to abuse (leading to the generation of humans whose organs and tissues would be harvested), and have concerns about how cloned individuals could integrate with families and with society at large. With regards to therapeutic cloning, the problem is that many attempts are often required to create a viable egg. The stability of the egg with the infused somatic nucleus is poor and it can require hundreds of attempts before success is attained. • 42. Graph Lab Report All three graphs displayed a similar graph shape. The absorbance values increased with an increase in temperature. Each graph plateaued at various temperatures. C. perfringens plateaued first, followed by the DNA of the calf thymus and finally E. coli. 2. Tm values C. perfringens 80.5°C Calf Thymus 87.5°C E. coli 91°C GC content C. perfringens GC content = (Tm 69.3) × 2.44 = (80.5 69.3) × 2.44 = 28.55 % Calf Thymus GC content = (Tm 69.3) × 2.44 = (87.5 69.3)×2.44 = 44.41% E. coli GC content = (Tm 69.3) × 2.44 = (91 69.3)×2.44 = 52.95% Discussion: The Tm of the genomic DNA from each species differed depending on the GC content of the sample. Guanine and Cytosine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A higher pH has a negative effect on the DNA s stability, which results in the lowering of the melting temperature. Raising the pH strips the H+ shared between the nitrogenous base electronegative centres from the hydrogen bond. The loss of hydrogen bonds between two complementary strands results in separation. The increase in pH will deprotonate the bases and will exist as negatively charged conjugate bases. As the deprotonated species, the hydrogen bonding between the bases G and C; and A and T are eliminated. The curves for all pH values displayed a similar shape. The higher the pH, the sooner the curve reached a plateau i.e. the maximum absorbance was reached. At pH 9.3, the lowest melting temperature of 82°C was seen. At pH 5.4, the highest melting temperature of 90.5°C was seen. This confirms the inverse relationship between Tm and pH conditions of the DNA strand. The absorption is decreased due to base stacking interactions. When DNA is denatured, these interactions are disrupted and an increase in absorbance is
