The City Of Sacramento, The State Capital Of California
The city of Sacramento, the state capital of California, is confronted with the need to take action to
manage current water consumption trends with respect to climate change, an increase in
population, and an increase in business. Residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural
demand for water are rising during the recent period of drought that triggered the notion of
conservation efforts statewide and the potential for water supplyshortage is extremely high. This is
a plan to respond to the crisis by changing the way the city manages its water supply by enacting
new structured fees for business and residential water consumption tiers and furnishing an
educational program designed to familiarize consumers with the enforcement of a new tiered fee
structure. The proposal is written in response the state s 20x2020 plan that dictates universal water
reduction with the intention of reaching a fixed 20% of overall water consumption reduction by the
end of the decade, and the CALGreen building code that regulates the implementation of water
saving technology in new and existing construction. Climate change impact on the state of
California over recent decades has generated many environmental fluctuations with the most critical
to the city of Sacramento being air temperature increase. Over the next few decades, the local
temperature may rise as much as 2В° C, badly taxing the environment to new extremes and possibly
resulting in unmet demand substantial increase in water

Preservation Digital Art Analysis
Preservation The Preservation is a digital art piece that demonstrates several different meanings.
This piece invokes fear and discomfort by exhibiting how oil, gas and chemical industries are
destroying the earth and humanity with pollution and toxin. The artist uses two arms to represent
the way of life. One side presents a beautiful, pure, and an unharmed world, and the other shows
darkness, death, the destruction of earth, and how it is taking over. This piece of art is aimed
towards the oil, gas and chemical industries. The Preservation is on the Deviantart.com, created by
(Shortcircuit123), also known as Paul, a twenty year old male from south Netherland and studying
art at ABK Maastricht. He started out with just drawing and now... Show more content on

Also, how it displays the overpowering of death, destruction, and darkness. This piece of digital
art can be compared to a similar painting on Italianrenaissance.org, The Creation of Adam, a
painting in the Sistine Chapel created by Michelangelo in 1512. In this work, God s right arm is
outstretched to reveal the spark of life from his own finger into that of Adam, whose left arm is
extended in a position reflecting God s, a reminder that man is formed in the reflection and
resemblance of God. Another point is that Adam s finger and God s finger are not touching. It
gives the sense that God, the provider of life, is extending out to Adam who has yet to accept it.
In the preservation piece the two arms represent humanity, and the left arm is covered with earth
and all living creations of God. The right arm is covered by a world full of fire, burning from the
inside out. Another point is the left side has blue skies showing a sign tranquility, relaxation, and
peace, with white clouds. The color white is to represent Innocence and purity. While the right
has, black smoke filled clouds coming from a refinery created by man, black shows to absorb all
aspects of light and signify power, and fear. Looking at the two hands with the fingers extended out
the right hand shows the pointer finger soaked and dripping oil into the world causing

Doubt Movie Essay
Doubt by: John Patrick Shanley (Movie directed by: John Patrick Shanley) We watched the
movie version of Doubt (2008) by: John Patrick Shanley, he also wrote the play Doubt: A
Parable (2004), which the movie Doubt is based on. This movie was really good, I liked it more
than I thought I was going to too be honest. The end was just like whoa, wait what so did he do it
or not and your thinking it could go either way. I see what you meant by the audience being
sided afterwards this movie would be a heated war at my house for days most likely. The movie
was so well done and that s hard to say about a lot of movies, especially the two sided ones. Philip
Seymour Hoffman played his role so well he was just amazing to watch, it was captivating; it
almost felt like you were in the room with them the whole time. Doubt is set in the Bronx, New
York City at St Nicholas a Catholic school in the year 1964. A Priest (Father Flynn) is accused of
molesting a young student (Donald Miller). There are two nuns who accuse him the older nun

accusation and chooses to believe the priest didn t molest the boy. The older nun is very rude until

evidence to prove she is right. The older nun later shows she too has doubt. I think the priest

going to finally find a place to stay and change for the better, but he later realized that there was no
getting through to the older nun and that the church was not ready for change so he moves

The Coral Reefs Of St. John At The Virgin Island Essay
The ocean is an ever present mystery due to the fact that we have over 70% of it undiscovered. It
never ceases to amaze humanity with its unique creatures and habitats. One ocean environment I
was fortunate to visit was the coral reefs near St. John at the Virgin Island Environmental Research
Center. I learned interesting things about this unique living system and how they support many
organisms, but one thing left me very bothered. On a tour of the coralreefs near a beach on St. John,
I observed many pale detached corals. Not only that, but I saw the picture of these coral reefs
from years before and the differences were enormous. In the old picture, the coral reefs were
vibrant and many. It seems like now, the coral that was once ravishing and was in abundance are
depleting and they are not as vibrant as they were before. I spoke to one of the researchers and
they told me that there are only 15% coral reefs left today because of several factors which include
pollution, climate change, and unsavory fishing practices that ravaged this once beautiful
ecosystem. If these reefs are not protected in time it could be detrimental to the existence of many
marine organisms.
Coral reefs are created from very small organisms called polyps that attach to any hard surface they
land on. Once they are settled, they take carbon dioxide from the ocean waters and secrete a
limestone substance out to create a protective skeleton like layer. After sediment and limestone
have accumulated, the

The Demise Of The Tobacco Smoking
What some are calling a new fad, may very well be the answer to the demise of the tobacco
smoking epidemic. While it is not likely to happen any time soon, it definitely has the potential.
Electronic cigarettes, also known as vaporizers, are the better alternative to smoking traditional
tobacco cigarettes. They contain less harmful chemicals, are less expensive, and provide a smoother
transition from smokingcigarettes to not smoking at all. It is difficult to comprehend why
generation after generation of people continue to smoke cigarettes despite the fact they are fully
aware of the detrimental effects of the behavior.
Cigarette smoking has been an addictive human habit for more than 600 years and even dates back
to 5000 B.C. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the diagram below shows, the tobacco rod is covered by the cigarette paper. The filter plug is
shrouded by the plug wrap paper, and both are joined together by the tipping paper. King size
cigarettes are typically around 80 mm long and 8 mm in diameter, while containing around 750
mg of tobacco. Filter lengths range 25 30 mm. When the end of a cigarette burns, the smoke from
the combustion moves through the unburned tobacco and filter, then inhaled into the user s
mouth and lungs. Some of the most dangerous elements of smoking are a product of the
combustion. Electronic cigarettes can come in many different shapes and sizes and can be
realistic looking or can be in larger forms with batteries and larger tanks. They all use the same
basic concept as the diagram below shows. When an e cigarette is triggered (either by an inhale or
with a button press) the battery connected to the heating element (atomizer) boils a tiny amount of
liquid (e liquid). This creates a vapor which is inhaled by the user. At no point is anything burned
through the process of combustion so no smoke/ash/tar is ever created (Project Vape).
The most obvious reason for kicking the smoking habit, or never picking it up, is the ridiculous
amount of toxic chemicals found in a cigarette or cigarette smoke. There are over 4000 known
chemicals in some form of the cigarette. The most dangerous of the chemicals would be the

The war on terror Essay
Ever since the beginning of the terrorist attacks on American soil, the War on Terror has been
involved in the lives of Americans and nations near us. The War on Terror s background originated
through conflicts between warring countries in the Middle East; U.S. involvement started when a
terrorist guided plane crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 in New York
City. The attack was suspected to be the work of the middle eastern terrorist group Al Qaeda. The
U.S. military, under the leadership of then commander in chief George W. Bush, declared a War on
Terror on the terrorist group and the fighting began. Over ten plus years human rightsand civil
liberties have been violated as thousands of innocent of civilians have... Show more content on

According to the UN only 9,759 civilians have died in Afghanistan, but the Lansing medical
journal reports that 654,965 civilian casualties occurred in Iraq from 2003 to 2006 so these
reports should be taken with a grain of salt. On the pro Saddam side of the war 76,778 Islamists
fighters have died; these deaths were made of security forces, private contractors, Sons of Iraq,
and most were made up of other supporters of the regime. According to the U.S. Department of
Defense, U.S. Armed Forces have suffered 4,487 deaths and 32,223 were wounded in action as of
May 2012.
As seen by these studies the people suffering are more so the families of the innocent civilians
than those who fought in the conflicts, and a lot of them were not killed by soldiers. As shown
by sites like WikiLeaks many civilian deaths are caused by mines or drones. These numbers show
the amount of devastation caused by the War on terror and more than ten years later these
numbers are still rising. Ultimately there are still over 50,000 troops in Afghanistan and there are
still plans to remain there for a while. Another consequence of the war is that in a combination of
regarding the safety of the homeland and getting an edge against possible threats, civil liberties
have been violated and human rights have been abused. After the 9/11 attack on Twin Towers and
the Pentagon the U.S. government has called for new forms of defense against possible attacks

Stick Figures In Australia
For the Australian fairy tale, it has been a long journey in search of nationhood identity. With the
enduring legacy of Australia s history as a settler colony there was no surprise that it invested the
landscape with strangeness and it became a part of the dream like world within fairy tales.
Through the history of Australian literary culture, the mythology of the bush tradition has been a
powerful voice in the Australian cultural context, which continues to have strong force in creating
national identity. However, it has become an inaccurate form of cultural identity. Here I will show
how the texts The Gown of Cobweb Lace in Peg Maltbys collection Peg s Fairy book and Stick
Figures in Tales of Outter Suburbia by Shaun Tan, illuminates the evolution of illustration in the
fairy tales which seems to have recorded the social history that has not been described in any other
form, exploring... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one the lone stick figure stands in at the end of the alleyway, all lines of the fence and pathway
drawing the intended readers attention towards it (Tan, 68). The other, the creatures possessing
humanistic qualities, as the three stick figures hold hands, showing a sense of quest to find their
place in society, pulling together a sense of the urban landscape that is disconnected from the
natural elements of the bush, that was smothered in pegs tale the gown of cobweb lace .
It is clear within Stick Figures the world around them has evolved, and they are the ones that are
out of place and do not belong, however, there is a clear message of self reflection as the stick
figures cause their abusers to question their own existence its as if they take all our questions and
offer them straight back. Who are you? Why are you here? What do you want? (Tan, 69). The
alienation of these creatures draws upon a sense of ownership, somewhat reflecting the historic
implications that got us to Australia in the first

Health Rights Within The World Health Organization Essay
HEALTH RIGHTS IN CONFLICT/DISASTER CONTEXT
According to the World Health Organization, health is a state of complete physical, mental and
social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
The above definition of health by the World Health Organization redefined the concept of health
among the different stakeholders involved in safeguarding people s right to health. Until then
health was merely seen as an absence of disease. But this definition helped the world to reimagining
the various dimensions of health. Thus it underscores the fact that health is directly influenced by
the environmental as well as social factors such as housing, education, food and a sense of safety
from physical as well as sexual violence too. Thus health effects of conflict and disasters are much
beyond the mortality and morbidity figures reported. http://www.uniteforsight.org/women children

fundamental human right . The right to health is considered as an inclusive right wherein its scope
extends beyond the conventional concept of right to healthcare. The Committee on Economic,
Social and Cultural Rights specifies those underlying crucial determinants as safe drinking water,
adequate sanitation, safe food, gender equality, and healthy environment and working conditions,
health related education and information, adequate nutrition as well as housing. The health rights

Catcalling And Social Media
Street harassment, also know as catcalling, is an action that I hate the most. Street harassment is
unwanted sayings or gestures that are targeted toward someone in specific based on sexual
orientation or gender, and in this case, women. Catcalling can be verbal such as compliments, like,
hey, baby. Catcalling can be physical, like groping a part of the body, and it can also be sexual
remarks. When I see street harassmenton social media, like in a picture or a video, I feel
uncomfortable, so I can t even imagine how some women feel when they have inappropriate
comments thrown at them constantly.
I think catcalling is the dumbest thing that anyone could have possibly thought of. Women don t
deserve to get harassed on the street. We want to get from point A to point B without any
interruptions, unless it s with our consent and if it s a friend whom consent was given to. If I
have to get stopped on the street for a gross man to comment on my butt or follow me, it is not
going to be a very good day. Most women I know, do not enjoy the act of being catcalled,
however, research from ILR ( Street Harassment Statistics ) and Hollaback!, a non profit
organization, showed that only 3%, out of 4,900 participants in the survey under the age of 40, has
found street harassment flattering. Some people do like it, and I m not going to shame, but I d
much rather have people that know me and are my friends compliment me in a nice way rather than
strangers comment on my body because they

Early Years Foundation Stage
The early year s foundation stage has been in place since September 2008.Early years foundation
stage is a play based curriculum for children from birth to five years which allow them to explore
their learning and development through play.
The five weeks continuous provision plan targeted a group of 8 children in the early year s class
(reception class) and was built on the EYFS framework. The plan focused on the communication
and language prime areas of EYFS. It was also supported by theories by F Skimmer and Chomsky.
The reason this plan was focused on the communication and language areas of EYFS is the
realization that many early learners lack or have insufficient communication skills, in comparison

Under operant condition, practitioners should use continuous reinforcement and intermittent

the principles of generative grammar and cognitive theory. These theories postulations are built on
the premises of language construction and use. The main postulate of Chomsky s on which the
current continuous provision plan was based is the assertion that knowledge and skills are obtained
through life s experiences, formal education and the practical application or understanding of a
concept. Also, learning involves practical as well as the theoretical understanding of topics and
subjects.
Chomsky s theory of generative grammar emphasizes the importance of taking and storing of

Chomsky s theory of language and communication, to retain information and knowledge, there is
need for previously stored knowledge to which newly inserted knowledge and information s added

When Irene Character Analysis
I believe that Claire was pushed out of the window at the end of the novel. This belief stems from
the buildup of resentment that Irene had felt toward Claire during the entirety of the story, but I
thought that in the final section this resentment began to go from simply not agreeing each other to
Irene feeling threatened by Claire.
Irene and Brian have what seems to be a marriage held together by children and when Irene begins
to suspect Claire is using her charms to win over Brian, Irene immediately starts to fear Brian
leaving her for Claire. This would rip apart the stability that Irene wants so desperately in her life
and she cannot allow that. We have watched Irene attempt to manipulate people throughout the
story, especially with Brian as exemplified by her not allowing Brian to leave his job for the sake of
the family. When Irene starts to imagine Claire taking away Brian, I think that it is not a stretch to
think that Irene would do whatever it takes to make sure that the situation could not possibly come
up.
Looking past Irene s desire for stability, I believe that her continuous jealousy towards Claire would
serve as proof for Irene pushing Claire out of the window. Irene describes Claire ... Show more

Irene begins to imagine the possibility of Brian and Claire having an affair and begins to spin a
web of negative emotions in her head until she breaks the cup she was holding in frustration. This
instance is critical as it shows us that Irene can be pushed to rash and violent action when she
thinks about Claire taking her husband away from her. While the argument can be made that
breaking a cup and pushing a person are two separate actions with the later being harder to carry
out, I think that Irene perpetually overthinks things to the point where she blocks out the outside
world whenever something stressful beings to weigh on

2b.Weaknesses
Although the USA market is very strong for Harley Davidson, they are making slow progress in
gaining market share in the international market. The customer loyalty that Harley Davidson enjoys
in the USA is challenged internationally by rival heavy weight manufacturers such as BMW,
Triumph, Honda and Kawasaki. Internationally, Europe has the largest demand for heavy weight
motorcycles; in which Harley Davidson has only managed to acquire less than 13% of this
lucrative market (HD, 2011).
2c.Opportunities
One of Harley Davidson biggest opportunities is intrinsically linked to its major weakness.
Internationally there is a large bit of a very big pie that Harley Davidson has not managed to attain.
Although Harley Davidson has less than 13% of the heavy weight motorcycle sales in Europe, they
manage to hold the number 2 ranking in this market. This ranking indicates that no one competitor
owns the heavy weight market in Europe and suggests that the customer loyalty amongst the
competitors is far from what Harley Davidson enjoys in the USA.
Having achieved the number one ranking for sales to women, Harley Davidson still have a large
potential customer base in attracting more women riders. Since 2007 Harley Davidson has doubled
its marketing spend and released bikes more suited to women riders, who now account for 12% of

Authors writing about God Essay
All of the authors we have conversed about in class and studied about at home are connected in at
least one way, if not many more. For example, Anne Bradstreet, Jonathan Edwards, Michael
Wigglesworth and John Winthrop all write about God and the way we should all act and the
simple fact that we all need to be Christians and so must the Indians who occupy their lives. Where
as these authors are writers of the Heavenly Father, the authors that I wish to write about, though
they do speak a little about God, I am writing on their influence on the Indian cultureas well as the
impact the Indians have made in Alvar Nunez Cabezade Vacas, Mary Rowlandson s and Samson
Occom s lives.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cabeza de Vaca writes, After this we had a hot argument with them (the Christians), for they
meant to make slaves of the Indians in our train. (Pg 69) He believes the Indians are human too
and are able to live the life they are supposed to live. Although he could not get the ones he lived
with to believe it; he says, To the last I could not convince the Indians that we were of the same
people as the Christian slavers. (Pg69), he told his king and the world, and I trust we understand.
I reflect that Cabeza de Vaca thought the Indians would not be converted, to any of the English
ways; nor did he consider they would be annihilated. I imagine he thought they would just live their
lives as they know how. Obediently.
Mary Rowlandson has a very different view about the Indians, I suppose, because she has an
extremely diverse attitude while writing about them. Rowlandson, at first, thought of the Indians as
barbarians, and I expect she still thought that way after her return to her husband, but she became a
part of them, without wanting to be willing to, but having to, mainly to stay alive. I feel she
knows she is part of the Indians way of living, but she cannot bring herself to say they are not
barbarians, although she realizes she is becoming just like them with the eating of their foods and
learning their language.

Analysis Of Like Water For Chocolate
Based off the novel with the same name by Laura Esquivel, the film Like Water for Chocolate
cleverly uses food in order to not only help viewers get to know its characters but also to convey
their feelings for one another. The film follows the De La Garza family living in their ranch in
Mexico during the Mexican Revolution and centers around Tita, one of the three daughters in the
familywho falls madly in lovewith a young man named Pedro. Continuing an old family tradition
that states the youngest daughter must stay home and take of the mother until she dies, Tita s
mother Elena forbids her from marrying him when he comes to ask for Tita s hand. Elena
convinces Pedro to instead marry Tita s oldest sister Rosaura. It isn t until later that Pedro
reveals to Tita the real reason he chose to marry her sister was so he could remain close to her.
The rest of the film shows how Tita deals with the painful reality of having her love become her
brother in law and how these two fight to stay in one another s life.
Besides her love for Pedro, one other thing is constant in this film and that is Tita s love for cooking
. Learning how to cook from the ranch s elderly maid Nacha from a very early age, Tita becomes
known for her delicious dishes and eventually becomes the head cook of the ranch after Nacha
dies. It s almost as if seems Tita was fated to become a master in the kitchen. One of the very first
scenes of the movie is of Mama Elena giving birth to her on a kitchen table where

What Is Racial Fetishism
From as early as the 1760 s, prostitution has been referred to by different names. French
philosophers used the word fetichisme, which loosely translated to mean primitive religion. Later,
according to Anne McClintock, Marx, in 1887, used the term commodity fetish which was believed
to mean primitive magic to express the idea of an economic side to the fetish, thus claiming it to be
an industry. McClintock goes on to explain that Freud evolved fetishismin to sexuality and finally
into what is known as erotic perversions. Later, religion combined the term sexuality and money,
therefore removing the primitive idea, making prostitutiona racial and sexual degeneration
(McClintock, 1992). It is believed by certain scholars, however,... Show more content on

available to white men regardless of their personal preferences. This assumption was common
among high ranking public officials, law enforcement as well as the civilian male. Being caught

Drug Trafficking In Afghanistan
Within a few weeks after 9/11, the CIA gave millions of dollars to the Northern Alliance to help with
the fight against the Taliban. Obviously, the intelligence community wasn t concerned with drug
trafficking and in March of 2002 the U.S. State Department reported that the Northern Alliance had
done nothing to curb the production of opium. As a result, in 2002, Afghanistans opium production
had returned to a similar level (3,400 tons) before the ban from the Taliban. Afghanistan quickly
regained its monopoly on the world s opium supply, roughly 90% of the world s opium.

are chronically noncompliant and two patients whom has expressed the desire to die and suicidal

primarily of a lower socioeconomic status. As previously indicated, nurses currently do not screen
for depressive symptoms. With that said, it is impossible to compare the context of research to
those seen in professional practice. However, multiple studies agree that education plays a vital role
in depression. Keskin and Engin (2011) wrote that educational status greatly impact depression
and suicidal ideation. They found that those experiencing depression (F = 7.42, p = 0.001) and
suicidal ideation (F = 4.51, p = 0.014) have a lower educational status. Similarly, Nabolsi et al.
(2015) found that individuals with higher education lead higher QOL (F = 7.250; P = 0.001) and
are less likely to display depressive symptoms (F = 10.721, P = 0.000). On the contrary, studies has
also shown that lower educational status, more specifically, hinder patients ability to fully
comprehend their disease process and treatment modalities (Chiang, Livneh, Yen, Li, Tsai, 2013;

Analysis Of Bartleby, The Scrivener
Morals are an essential part of the human psyche. In Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener:
A Story of Wall Street, the scribe Bartleby works for a lawyer for a short period of time. During
the time, the lawyer notices Bartleby s odd characteristics which are similar to the characteristics of
how lepers in The Bible are treated. In the short story, Melville infuses the story with symbols
such as the Dead Letter Office and a key phrase that alludes to the narrator s failure to answer the
moral question that Bartleby presents of how lepers should be treated in society. As the story
unfolds, the reader finds that the narrator, a profitable lawyer who worked under the late John
Jacob Astor, believes in living life easily or without... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator reasons that releasing Bartleby from his job would be unnecessarily cruel which
indicates his need to do the right thing. The narrator s pity is inexplicably a reason for Bartleby s
continued employment: What miserable friendlessness and loneliness are here revealed! His
poverty is great; but his solitude how horrible! (673). In this case, the narrator faces the
challenge of giving the poor scribe a place to stay and survive or releasing Bartleby onto the
streets where another employer may not be so kind. He also feels, however, that Bartleby s
quirks are not at all easy to accommodate: In plain fact, he had now become a millstone to me, not
only useless as a necklace, but afflictive to bear (676). The narrator, in this section, faces the need
to do the socially acceptable thing. After all, a man who does not work should not be paid or
allowed to remain employed. As literary critic Richard J. Zlogar explained in a commentary that
analogized Melville s short story with certain parts of The Bible, The narrator s challenge, then, if
he is to heal Bartleby s illness in its social aspect, is the same challenge that confronted Jesus
Christ in his interaction with the leper, as discussed by Crossan: he must force his peers either to
reject him from their community or to accept the leper within it as well (Zlogar 521). Zlogar s
commentary provides insight on what the narrator s options are; he must either

Analysis Of Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
Everybody s good when they re good, darling. You don t judge a person by that. It s how they act
when things aren t good that tells you who they really are. ― Megan Jacobson (Goodreads, 56
Quotes ) Much like the world around us, literature has many elements that have the reader portray
their own understanding and perspective of it. In Sweat, Zora Neale Hurstongives the reader many
different situations where many readers can have several viewpoints. This seems to be very
similar to the Bible, where a child of Godcan read the same scripture as another and have a
completely different meaning in their eyes. Zora Hurston uses many elements that focus on the
idea that actions one does speak louder than words, by the use of religious imagery and Delia, the
wife.
Sweat s narrator point of view is told in third person omniscient, meaning the narrator switches from
character to character constantly and does not restrict the reader to one character s perspective.
Hurston uses this element to introduce us to each of the characters daily life and their belief in
Christianity. Not only does it give us each character s standpoint, but also clarification of an outside
view and provide the reader with additional information and background of the married couple.
To begin the story, Hurston, with the use of the narrator being from third person omniscient,
introduces us to Delia as a wash woman who was working on a Sunday night all the way until
eleven o clock after church earlier in the

Pantheon of Rome and the Parthenon of Athens
Pantheon of Rome and the Parthenon of Athens
Introduction
Since the times of ancient Rome, there has been work of art including architecture. The invention
of architectural objects boosted the construction industry and among the results of architecture was
building of temples. Since the ancient people like the romans had beliefs in gods, they constructed
temples, places of worship. Among them were the Pantheon of Rome and the Parthenon of Athens.
Style of Pantheon of Rome and culture
The temple has a coffered concrete dome of which the romans believed that the temple was
dedicated to planetary deities. The pantheon had an Orb which was a simple of the universe and
this showed the supremacy of the emperor over the world. Additionally, there were also has seven
niches for the altars and statues. At that time there were seven well known planets. Also on the
dome, it is seen a central ring of the Oculus which is surrounded by 5 rings of coffers. These can be
related to the heliocentric view of the cosmos having the sun in the center and Jupiter, Mars, Saturn,
Venus and Moon around it.
Function of the Pantheon of Rome
Used for worshipping gods of ancient Rome. It is of great importance to note that the romans were
keen on astrology. Among the purposes of the Pantheon was that it was a temple cum planetarium
made to bring down the heavens to the earth and to then trap their perfection within the building
and cast a heavenly blessing on the Emperor s earthly power.

Abstract
Dark Matter, one of the mysteries of Science that has us puzzled even after nearly 70 years of it s
initial prediction. Why? Has it got us on the edge of our seats so often. The answer lies in the
sheer magnitude of the Dark Matter all around us. If certain predictions are true, then even right
now as I write this , and when you read, billions of Neutrinos (hypothesized Dark Matter particle)
are passing through us , without us even feeling them. Various astronomical techniques such as

All of these civilizations came and went at different times throughout the duration of Bronze
Age Greece. All of them were drastically important in maintaining the great power of the area
during a time of such havoc and turmoil. Much like anything in life, all good things must come
to an end eventually. The Bronze Age Greece almost completely fell by 146BC. There are a
number of different reasons why the collapse of the Bronze Age Greece occurred. In the
following sections we will discuss several reasons for the collapse of this once great society.
Possibly the most important cause for the fall of the Golden Age Greece was the Battle of
Corinth. It occurred in 146BC and officially marked the complete fall of the Greek resistance
against the Roman Republic. This was such a destructive turning point for Greece because the
city of Corinth possessed masses of wealth. It was a main hub of activity and politics for the
Greece civilization. The battle occurred during a time when the Roman Republic sought to
overtake Greece and all of its corresponding states. Rome had been proving its great military
strength and superiority to neighboring nations previous to the Battle of Corinth. This period
outlines the fall of the Greece nation and the rise of the Roman Republic. Corinth was one of the
most powerful at that time. After the battle, the rest of Greece fell to the Romans as well. The
Greek states tried to hold off and resist Roman

Analysis Of All Quiet On The Western Front By Erich Maria...
World War I was a global war that originated in Europe and lasted from July 1914 to November
1918. Two writers that described their feelings during the war were Erich Maria Remarque, who
wrote All Quiet on the Western Front, and Edward Thomas, who wrote This is no case of petty
right or wrong . While Thomas uses metaphors and an aggravated tone to reveal why patriotism is
more beneficial than nationalism in his poem, Remarque more effectively presents this theme
through his more extensive use of specific metaphors, accusatory word choice, and emotional tone
in his novel. As an example, Remarque is superior in the metaphors that he uses to describe the war
and its negative impacts, thus making a more effective argument for patriotism and against... Show

For example, Thomas uses We love ourselves as we hate her foe (Thomas 26). Thomas does not
hate other countries more than he loves England. This shows the distinction between his view and
nationalism, where Thomas would hate other countries more than he loves his. Thus, the reason
why he wants to protect England is so that he can protect his own freedom. Remarque, on the other
hand, has much stronger tone and word choice, which makes it more clear that Remarque is
patriotic while also differentiating himself from the nationalist point of view. We loved our country
as much as they; we went courageously into every action; but also we distinguished the false from
the true, we had suddenly learned to see (Remarque 26). Here, courageously is referencing the fact
that many of the soldiers were patriotic indeed, but the nationalist propaganda that authority was
feeding them was fake. Thus, the soldiers are now able to see the amount of destruction that the
nationalism had caused. Therefore, unlike Thomas, Remarque is able to add more depth about how
others felt during the war to his arguments. Another quote Remarque uses shows how he can vary
his tone to outline the innocence of the soldiers patriotism. It s queer, when one thinks about it,
goes on Kropp, we are here to protect our fatherland. And the French are over there to protect their
fatherland. Now

Lopez admits that, through the power of music, he has been transformed. The man he was

the instructions on what to do. One of the key elements of an algorithm is to have a set of rules in
order to perform the mathematical calculations. Another feature of algorithms is that it always
works. Computer sciencedescribes how to solve a problem using an algorithm. The main purpose of
the book is to explain the algorithms one s computer uses everyday... Show more content on

Chapter 7 discusses compression algorithms. Compressions are used often and sometimes we may
not even be aware of it. The items we download or upload may be compressed in order to save
bandwidth. Chapter 8 discusses the fundamental algorithms underlying databases (MacCormick, 7).
This chapter emphasizes the techniques used to achieve consistency and to ensure that databases
never contradict each other. Chapter 9 discusses the ability to sign an electronic document digitally
(MacCormick, 7). Chapter 10 discusses algorithms that would be considered great if it existed.
The two main elements that make an algorithm considered to be good are that it solves a problem
and it does it efficiently. In order to measure the efficiency of algorithms, computer scientists use
asymptotic analysis, which allows algorithms to be compared independently of a particular
programming language or hardware. This allows us to determine that some algorithms are more
efficient than others. It is important that users find good algorithms and know when to apply them.
This will allow people to write important programs. For instance, google is able to transmit live
videos across the internet quickly because they use audio and visual compression algorithms ( What
Is an Algorithm, n.p). Another example is google maps and its feature to give us transportation
instruction to get to different places is possible

The Transformational Leadership Model Style
Introduction
Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson, an English businessman and investor, is best known as the
founder of Virgin Group. Branson is a high school dropout turned billionaire. The Virgin brand
really started to take off in the 1980 s when he started Virgin Atlantic, which then grew to Virgin
Records. Forbes listed Branson at an estimated new worth of $5 billion (Forbes.com, 2015). Virgin
has grown into different sectors ranging from music to travel. There is currently more than 100
different Virgin companies across the world. The company has roughly 60,000 employees in over
50 different countries.
Leadership Style and Impact
Leadership is the ability to influence people toward the attainment of goals. A people activity,
distinct from administrative paper shuffling or problem solving activities (Daft, 2011). Richard
Branson most represents the transformational leadership model style. Transformational leaders
have a special ability to bring out innovation and change by recognizing followers needs and
concerns, providing meaning, challenging people to look at old problems in new was, and
acting as role models for the new values and behaviors (Daft, 2011). Branson sees himself as a
rule breaker because he never learned the rules in the first place. To change the game is at the
heart of what Virgin stands for, so the company culture has always been: Don t sweat it: rules were
meant to be broken (Schawbel, 2014). Transformational leaders work to not only have

Freud s Theory Of Freud
Freud was one of the most significant influences in the twentieth century for psychology. He
founded and was later known as the father of psychoanalysis, it was used in treating people with
mental illnesses. Most people know psychoanalysis as the therapy/talking remedy. He would sit
his patients down and talk openly about their different emotions and problems they were currently
facing. One of Freud s cases in particular was brought to people s attention. The case of Anna O
the girls real name was Bertha, however this case was very important for Freud because it was
basically what essentially started his career. The girl he called Anna suffered from hysteria, which
is a condition in which the patient exhibits physical symptoms (e.g. paralysis, convulsions,
hallucinations, loss of speech) without apparent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In more depth and better understanding of Freud s theory was that he believed the mind is made up
of two main parts, the conscious and unconscious mind. The conscious are all things that come
together in our minds without effort. However, the unconscious mind involves all the things that
are external to our awareness, like our hopes, dreams, wishes and worries. These things are
outside of our awareness but they still continue to impact on the way we act and the things we
may say. Freud compared the mind to an iceberg. The tip of the iceberg that is actually visible
above the water represents just a tiny portion of the mind, while the huge expanse of ice hidden
underneath the water represents the much larger unconscious. (Cherry K 2013) Freud believed
some events were so hard emotionally for some of the people to recognize that they put those awful
thoughts in their unconscious mind. Freud used a relaxing environment when seeing his patients;
he would put them almost in a deep relaxed state. The reason for this was to get the patients to

Improvement Opportunity: The Define Phase The purpose of this project was to gain experience in
quality improvement by working with an organization to identify a business problem, analyze the
causes, develop an improvement plan, implement changes, and to verify the effectiveness of the
solutions. For this project we had to keep scope in mind. This project had to follow certain criteria,
such as: that it is a manageable project with a local organization, it can be completed within the
time frame of the course, it has a direct impact on external customers, it is relatively simple, and
that it is not something that is currently undergoing major changes.
The company that our group has partnered with for this project is CVS Pharmacies. We looked into
this company to see if there were any areas for improvement within the organization that would
have an impact on external customers. Within this define stage is when we did exactly that, we
defined the problem. One problem that we found within the CVS Pharmacy, that would be easy
enough to handle given the scope of the project, concerned the stores current inventory (overstock,
backstock) system. It seemed that currently there was no formalized process with regard to placing
items in overstock, resulting in an unorganized and unconventional overstock area. This created a
problem because it made it harder

Moda Provocateur
Moda Provocateur is a formal fashion event at the Tucson Convention Center(TCC) to help fund
the Southern Arizona AIDS foundation (SAAF).The first time that I attended this event I was
completely lost and confused about what we had to do and what was going to happen. In 2013,
it was my first fashion show at the TCC, and I was completely confused about the whole process
of things. I had no idea what to expect, and I feared that my garment was going to fall apart as
my model walked onto the runway. It had become the first real big event that I had attended
besides our school fashion show, and it was a completely new experience for me. This event really

Shell Oil and the Exploitation of Nigeria Essays
Shell Oil and the Exploitation of Nigeria
Nigeria has been a country in political turmoil for a long time. The country was created in 1914
under British colonial rule and at that time it was considered a protectorate. It was not until 1960
that Nigeria received independence from the United Kingdom. One of Nigeria s problems
politically is that it has over three hundred different ethnic groups. The three largest of these are the
Hausa Fulani, Igbo, and Yoruba. At the time of the independence of Nigeria it was split up into
three states with each state being under the control of one of the major ethnic groups. The natural
resources of the other 297 ethnic groups were exploited for the major three groups, ... Show more

He wrote a Bill of Rights calling for protection of the environment in the Ogoni region and basic
rights for the Ogoni people. His Bill of Rights was completely ignored by the government. He
went on to do peaceful demonstrations against Shell s oil plants where special police forces
came in and killed and injured many Ogoni people. In May 1995 Ken Sao Wiwa and his close
MOSOP associates were accused of the murders of four Ogoni chiefs. Their trial was closed to
the public Ken Saro Wiwa s legal defense resigned saying that the trial was not impartial or
independent and no matter what they would all be found guilty. Ken Saro Wiwa and eight of his
close associates were all hanged. Shell has since spent millions trying to repair the damage they
inadvertently caused in Nigeria and the world s major powers have taken small actions against
Nigeria.
Violation of Human Rights, destruction of the environment, and denial of freedom of speech and
congregation are the ethical issues raised in this case. The Human Rights violations are many.
The Nigerian special police force raped, tortured, and murdered hundreds who spoke out against
the tyrannical government. All together they killed 2,000 Ogoni, razed 27 villages and displaced
over 80,000 people who fled into the bush as refugees. The oil spills by the Shell Company, the

The History of AIDS and HIV
In this HHMI lecture, the speaker, Dr. Ojiktu, combined basic research and clinical and public
health work in her talk just as she does in her everyday work life. She is a medical doctors that
sees many patients between the Boston area and a South African province in which 1 and 5 people
are infected with the a virus that causes aids. She discuses the microscopic realm of the virus and
virus infected cells to AIDS therapies. Dr. Ojiktu treats people with HIV and other infectious
diseases. She enjoys linking what is happening here and overseas. She also works on a team to
develop programs and do research concerning aids. In 1980 a strange new disease was growing,
starting in Los Angeles. This disease presented vague symptoms such as weight loss, lack of
energy, diarrhea, fevers and sweats, rashes, and swollen lymph nodes. These symptoms could be
caused by any viral infectious. The unique thing is that these systems were chronic, progressive,
and debilitating. Some patients presented very bad shortness of breath and a bad cough. With this
they found that the patients had a rare fungal infection called Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia
(PCP). There were also some cases concerning these symptoms in New York City. These cases are
rare so the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noticed a spike in the drug Pentamidine (a
drug used to treat PCP, typically used on cancer patients). The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention sent out Dr. Golfi to investigate. Dr. Golfi

Imagine having your husband killed during the night, where all you other kids and a pregnant you
are sleeping, that is what happened to Falta. The group of Boko Haram took the live of her
husband while she was three months pregnant. Falta and her whole family has been sleeping in the
forest without barely any essential items they needto survive. After four months without her
husband, Falta had a baby. Her delivery was not like regular delivery, she didn t have any of the
basic supplies needed to have a good delivery. I can not even picture or envision having a life
like hers, the pain she must have felt having that baby in the unlikely place or a forest. Maita, her
little baby became dangerously malnourished from the limited amount of milk she was receiving
from Falta. After going to a specialized clinic, Falta and her baby are recovering from the hard
effects of violence and hunger in their home of Nigeria (Dwyer).

Abstract The nonlinear relationship between corporate value and managerial ownership is well
documented. This has been attributed to the onset of managerial entrenchment, which results in a
decrease of corporate value for increasing levels of managerial holdings. We propose a new
structure for this relationship that accounts for the effect of conflicting managerial ... Show more

With equity holdings around 50%, managers will have implicit control of their company, but still
do not have objectives completely aligned to external shareholders. Only at very high levels of
managerial holdings are incentives akin to other shareholders. When this model is applied to a
large sample of firms incorporated in the UK, managerial ownership is seen to have a significant
impact on corporate value. This relationship is endogenous, and consistent with Cho (1998) and
Himmelberg et al. (1999), corporate value has a corresponding effect on managerial holdings. We
also find that although ownership levels are affected by firm level investment, there is no evidence
of the reverse occurring. In the next section we outline our model of the managerial ownership
corporate value relationship. We present empirical results in Section 3 and conclude in Section 4.
2. The model In this section, we propose an alternative structure to the managerial holdings
corporate value relationship and argue that the cubic, or simpler representations, used in earlier

further nonlinearities in this relationship at high levels of managerial holdings and has a quintic

An Unequal Distribution Of Wealth And Power Across The Nation
Living in America, I have always been aware of fact that there is an unequal distribution of
wealth and power across the nation. However, I was unaware that there is such a significant gap
between the rich and the poor. It was made clear in the video Wealth Inequality in America , that
the top 1% has more power and wealth than the middle and poor classes. The rich can get away
with not paying their taxes and sitting on their pile of free money. In the meantime, the poorest
people are down to the loose change in their pockets and are still paying their taxes. Corporations
today have more privileges in America, including a voice in the democracy. People like us are
being excluded from important decision making regarding our economic lives. Our understanding
of what s going on with the wealth distribution and the actuality of what s going on is two
completely different things. So you may ask, what s the reason behind this inequality? The
answer is corporations and big businesses. Corporations such as Bank of America, Nike, Google,
Apple, and Microsoft are rising to power. Corporations have also completely diminished the
original intent of our Founding Fathers. According to Collin and Yeskel s Economic Apartheid in
America , it s sad to say that many Americans are unaware of these things and it s starting to affect
us as a country day by day. But while the truth of the economy may be difficult to understand,
Collins, Yeskel, and Perkins clarified and changed my views on the

  • 2. The City Of Sacramento, The State Capital Of California The city of Sacramento, the state capital of California, is confronted with the need to take action to manage current water consumption trends with respect to climate change, an increase in population, and an increase in business. Residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural demand for water are rising during the recent period of drought that triggered the notion of conservation efforts statewide and the potential for water supplyshortage is extremely high. This is a plan to respond to the crisis by changing the way the city manages its water supply by enacting new structured fees for business and residential water consumption tiers and furnishing an educational program designed to familiarize consumers with the enforcement of a new tiered fee structure. The proposal is written in response the state s 20x2020 plan that dictates universal water reduction with the intention of reaching a fixed 20% of overall water consumption reduction by the end of the decade, and the CALGreen building code that regulates the implementation of water saving technology in new and existing construction. Climate change impact on the state of California over recent decades has generated many environmental fluctuations with the most critical to the city of Sacramento being air temperature increase. Over the next few decades, the local temperature may rise as much as 2В° C, badly taxing the environment to new extremes and possibly resulting in unmet demand substantial increase in water ... • 3. Preservation Digital Art Analysis Preservation The Preservation is a digital art piece that demonstrates several different meanings. This piece invokes fear and discomfort by exhibiting how oil, gas and chemical industries are destroying the earth and humanity with pollution and toxin. The artist uses two arms to represent the way of life. One side presents a beautiful, pure, and an unharmed world, and the other shows darkness, death, the destruction of earth, and how it is taking over. This piece of art is aimed towards the oil, gas and chemical industries. The Preservation is on the Deviantart.com, created by (Shortcircuit123), also known as Paul, a twenty year old male from south Netherland and studying art at ABK Maastricht. He started out with just drawing and now... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, how it displays the overpowering of death, destruction, and darkness. This piece of digital art can be compared to a similar painting on Italianrenaissance.org, The Creation of Adam, a painting in the Sistine Chapel created by Michelangelo in 1512. In this work, God s right arm is outstretched to reveal the spark of life from his own finger into that of Adam, whose left arm is extended in a position reflecting God s, a reminder that man is formed in the reflection and resemblance of God. Another point is that Adam s finger and God s finger are not touching. It gives the sense that God, the provider of life, is extending out to Adam who has yet to accept it. In the preservation piece the two arms represent humanity, and the left arm is covered with earth and all living creations of God. The right arm is covered by a world full of fire, burning from the inside out. Another point is the left side has blue skies showing a sign tranquility, relaxation, and peace, with white clouds. The color white is to represent Innocence and purity. While the right has, black smoke filled clouds coming from a refinery created by man, black shows to absorb all aspects of light and signify power, and fear. Looking at the two hands with the fingers extended out the right hand shows the pointer finger soaked and dripping oil into the world causing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Doubt Movie Essay Doubt by: John Patrick Shanley (Movie directed by: John Patrick Shanley) We watched the movie version of Doubt (2008) by: John Patrick Shanley, he also wrote the play Doubt: A Parable (2004), which the movie Doubt is based on. This movie was really good, I liked it more than I thought I was going to too be honest. The end was just like whoa, wait what so did he do it or not and your thinking it could go either way. I see what you meant by the audience being sided afterwards this movie would be a heated war at my house for days most likely. The movie was so well done and that s hard to say about a lot of movies, especially the two sided ones. Philip Seymour Hoffman played his role so well he was just amazing to watch, it was captivating; it almost felt like you were in the room with them the whole time. Doubt is set in the Bronx, New York City at St Nicholas a Catholic school in the year 1964. A Priest (Father Flynn) is accused of molesting a young student (Donald Miller). There are two nuns who accuse him the older nun /principle (Sister Aloysius) and a young nun (Sister James). I think the priest changed too it may not be as noticeable as the older nun, but it s there. The priest thought he was going to finally find a place to stay and change for the better, but he later realized that there was no getting through to the older nun and that the church was not ready for change so he moves ... • 5. The Coral Reefs Of St. John At The Virgin Island Essay The ocean is an ever present mystery due to the fact that we have over 70% of it undiscovered. It never ceases to amaze humanity with its unique creatures and habitats. One ocean environment I was fortunate to visit was the coral reefs near St. John at the Virgin Island Environmental Research Center. I learned interesting things about this unique living system and how they support many organisms, but one thing left me very bothered. On a tour of the coralreefs near a beach on St. John, I observed many pale detached corals. Not only that, but I saw the picture of these coral reefs from years before and the differences were enormous. In the old picture, the coral reefs were vibrant and many. It seems like now, the coral that was once ravishing and was in abundance are depleting and they are not as vibrant as they were before. I spoke to one of the researchers and they told me that there are only 15% coral reefs left today because of several factors which include pollution, climate change, and unsavory fishing practices that ravaged this once beautiful ecosystem. If these reefs are not protected in time it could be detrimental to the existence of many marine organisms. Coral reefs are created from very small organisms called polyps that attach to any hard surface they land on. Once they are settled, they take carbon dioxide from the ocean waters and secrete a limestone substance out to create a protective skeleton like layer. After sediment and limestone have accumulated, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Demise Of The Tobacco Smoking What some are calling a new fad, may very well be the answer to the demise of the tobacco smoking epidemic. While it is not likely to happen any time soon, it definitely has the potential. Electronic cigarettes, also known as vaporizers, are the better alternative to smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes. They contain less harmful chemicals, are less expensive, and provide a smoother transition from smokingcigarettes to not smoking at all. It is difficult to comprehend why generation after generation of people continue to smoke cigarettes despite the fact they are fully aware of the detrimental effects of the behavior. Cigarette smoking has been an addictive human habit for more than 600 years and even dates back to 5000 B.C. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the diagram below shows, the tobacco rod is covered by the cigarette paper. The filter plug is shrouded by the plug wrap paper, and both are joined together by the tipping paper. King size cigarettes are typically around 80 mm long and 8 mm in diameter, while containing around 750 mg of tobacco. Filter lengths range 25 30 mm. When the end of a cigarette burns, the smoke from the combustion moves through the unburned tobacco and filter, then inhaled into the user s mouth and lungs. Some of the most dangerous elements of smoking are a product of the combustion. Electronic cigarettes can come in many different shapes and sizes and can be realistic looking or can be in larger forms with batteries and larger tanks. They all use the same basic concept as the diagram below shows. When an e cigarette is triggered (either by an inhale or with a button press) the battery connected to the heating element (atomizer) boils a tiny amount of liquid (e liquid). This creates a vapor which is inhaled by the user. At no point is anything burned through the process of combustion so no smoke/ash/tar is ever created (Project Vape). The most obvious reason for kicking the smoking habit, or never picking it up, is the ridiculous amount of toxic chemicals found in a cigarette or cigarette smoke. • 8. The war on terror Essay Ever since the beginning of the terrorist attacks on American soil, the War on Terror has been involved in the lives of Americans and nations near us. The War on Terror s background originated through conflicts between warring countries in the Middle East; U.S. involvement started when a terrorist guided plane crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 in New York City. The attack was suspected to be the work of the middle eastern terrorist group Al Qaeda. The U.S. military, under the leadership of then commander in chief George W. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the UN only 9,759 civilians have died in Afghanistan, but the Lansing medical journal reports that 654,965 civilian casualties occurred in Iraq from 2003 to 2006 so these reports should be taken with a grain of salt. On the pro Saddam side of the war 76,778 Islamists fighters have died; these deaths were made of security forces, private contractors, Sons of Iraq, and most were made up of other supporters of the regime. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Armed Forces have suffered 4,487 deaths and 32,223 were wounded in action as of May 2012. As seen by these studies the people suffering are more so the families of the innocent civilians than those who fought in the conflicts, and a lot of them were not killed by soldiers. As shown by sites like WikiLeaks many civilian deaths are caused by mines or drones. These numbers show the amount of devastation caused by the War on terror and more than ten years later these numbers are still rising. Ultimately there are still over 50,000 troops in Afghanistan and there are still plans to remain there for a while. Another consequence of the war is that in a combination of regarding the safety of the homeland and getting an edge against possible threats, civil liberties have been violated and human rights have been abused. After the 9/11 attack on Twin Towers and the Pentagon the U.S. government has called for new forms of defense against possible attacks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Stick Figures In Australia For the Australian fairy tale, it has been a long journey in search of nationhood identity. With the enduring legacy of Australia s history as a settler colony there was no surprise that it invested the landscape with strangeness and it became a part of the dream like world within fairy tales. Through the history of Australian literary culture, the mythology of the bush tradition has been a powerful voice in the Australian cultural context, which continues to have strong force in creating national identity. However, it has become an inaccurate form of cultural identity. Here I will show how the texts The Gown of Cobweb Lace in Peg Maltbys collection Peg s Fairy book and Stick Figures in Tales of Outter Suburbia by Shaun Tan, illuminates the evolution of illustration in the fairy tales which seems to have recorded the social history that has not been described in any other form, exploring... • 10. Health Rights Within The World Health Organization Essay HEALTH RIGHTS IN CONFLICT/DISASTER CONTEXT According to the World Health Organization, health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The above definition of health by the World Health Organization redefined the concept of health among the different stakeholders involved in safeguarding people s right to health. Until then health was merely seen as an absence of disease. But this definition helped the world to reimagining the various dimensions of health. Thus it underscores the fact that health is directly influenced by the environmental as well as social factors such as housing, education, food and a sense of safety from physical as well as sexual violence too. Thus health effects of conflict and disasters are much beyond the mortality and morbidity figures reported. http://www.uniteforsight.org/women children course/women war The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) declares health as a fundamental human right . The right to health is considered as an inclusive right wherein its scope extends beyond the conventional concept of right to healthcare. • 12. Catcalling And Social Media Street harassment, also know as catcalling, is an action that I hate the most. Street harassment is unwanted sayings or gestures that are targeted toward someone in specific based on sexual orientation or gender, and in this case, women. Catcalling can be verbal such as compliments, like, hey, baby. Catcalling can be physical, like groping a part of the body, and it can also be sexual remarks. When I see street harassmenton social media, like in a picture or a video, I feel uncomfortable, so I can t even imagine how some women feel when they have inappropriate comments thrown at them constantly. I think catcalling is the dumbest thing that anyone could have possibly thought of. Women don t deserve to get harassed on the street. We want to get from point A to point B without any interruptions, unless it s with our consent and if it s a friend whom consent was given to. If I have to get stopped on the street for a gross man to comment on my butt or follow me, it is not going to be a very good day. Most women I know, do not enjoy the act of being catcalled, however, research from ILR ( Street Harassment Statistics ) and Hollaback!, a non profit organization, showed that only 3%, out of 4,900 participants in the survey under the age of 40, has found street harassment flattering. Early Years Foundation Stage The early year s foundation stage has been in place since September 2008.Early years foundation stage is a play based curriculum for children from birth to five years which allow them to explore their learning and development through play. The five weeks continuous provision plan targeted a group of 8 children in the early year s class (reception class) and was built on the EYFS framework. The plan focused on the communication and language prime areas of EYFS. It was also supported by theories by F Skimmer and Chomsky. The reason this plan was focused on the communication and language areas of EYFS is the realization that many early learners lack or have insufficient communication skills, in comparison to their ages. The main postulate of Chomsky s on which the current continuous provision plan was based is the assertion that knowledge and skills are obtained through life s experiences, formal education and the practical application or understanding of a concept. Also, learning involves practical as well as the theoretical understanding of topics and subjects. Chomsky s theory of generative grammar emphasizes the importance of taking and storing of information, similar to the premise of the current continuous provision plan (Chomsky, 2000). • 17. When Irene Character Analysis I believe that Claire was pushed out of the window at the end of the novel. This belief stems from the buildup of resentment that Irene had felt toward Claire during the entirety of the story, but I thought that in the final section this resentment began to go from simply not agreeing each other to Irene feeling threatened by Claire. Irene and Brian have what seems to be a marriage held together by children and when Irene begins to suspect Claire is using her charms to win over Brian, Irene immediately starts to fear Brian leaving her for Claire. This would rip apart the stability that Irene wants so desperately in her life and she cannot allow that. We have watched Irene attempt to manipulate people throughout the story, especially with Brian as exemplified by her not allowing Brian to leave his job for the sake of the family. When Irene starts to imagine Claire taking away Brian, I think that it is not a stretch to think that Irene would do whatever it takes to make sure that the situation could not possibly come up. Looking past Irene s desire for stability, I believe that her continuous jealousy towards Claire would serve as proof for Irene pushing Claire out of the window. Irene describes Claire ... Irene begins to imagine the possibility of Brian and Claire having an affair and begins to spin a web of negative emotions in her head until she breaks the cup she was holding in frustration. While the argument can be made that breaking a cup and pushing a person are two separate actions with the later being harder to carry out, I think that Irene perpetually overthinks things to the point where she blocks out the outside world whenever something stressful beings to weigh on ... For example, Anne Bradstreet, Jonathan Edwards, Michael Wigglesworth and John Winthrop all write about God and the way we should all act and the simple fact that we all need to be Christians and so must the Indians who occupy their lives. Where as these authors are writers of the Heavenly Father, the authors that I wish to write about, though they do speak a little about God, I am writing on their influence on the Indian cultureas well as the impact the Indians have made in Alvar Nunez Cabezade Vacas, Mary Rowlandson s and Samson Occom s lives.... The film follows the De La Garza family living in their ranch in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution and centers around Tita, one of the three daughters in the familywho falls madly in lovewith a young man named Pedro. Continuing an old family tradition that states the youngest daughter must stay home and take of the mother until she dies, Tita s mother Elena forbids her from marrying him when he comes to ask for Tita s hand. Elena convinces Pedro to instead marry Tita s oldest sister Rosaura. It isn t until later that Pedro reveals to Tita the real reason he chose to marry her sister was so he could remain close to her. The rest of the film shows how Tita deals with the painful reality of having her love become her brother in law and how these two fight to stay in one another s life. Besides her love for Pedro, one other thing is constant in this film and that is Tita s love for cooking . Learning how to cook from the ranch s elderly maid Nacha from a very early age, Tita becomes known for her delicious dishes and eventually becomes the head cook of the ranch after Nacha dies. French philosophers used the word fetichisme, which loosely translated to mean primitive religion. Later, according to Anne McClintock, Marx, in 1887, used the term commodity fetish which was believed to mean primitive magic to express the idea of an economic side to the fetish, thus claiming it to be an industry. McClintock goes on to explain that Freud evolved fetishismin to sexuality and finally into what is known as erotic perversions. Later, religion combined the term sexuality and money, therefore removing the primitive idea, making prostitutiona racial and sexual degeneration (McClintock, 1992). In Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street, the scribe Bartleby works for a lawyer for a short period of time. During the time, the lawyer notices Bartleby s odd characteristics which are similar to the characteristics of how lepers in The Bible are treated. In the short story, Melville infuses the story with symbols such as the Dead Letter Office and a key phrase that alludes to the narrator s failure to answer the moral question that Bartleby presents of how lepers should be treated in society. As the story unfolds, the reader finds that the narrator, a profitable lawyer who worked under the late John Jacob Astor, believes in living life easily or without... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator reasons that releasing Bartleby from his job would be unnecessarily cruel which indicates his need to do the right thing. The narrator s pity is inexplicably a reason for Bartleby s continued employment: What miserable friendlessness and loneliness are here revealed! His poverty is great; but his solitude how horrible! (673). In this case, the narrator faces the challenge of giving the poor scribe a place to stay and survive or releasing Bartleby onto the streets where another employer may not be so kind. He also feels, however, that Bartleby s quirks are not at all easy to accommodate: In plain fact, he had now become a millstone to me, not only useless as a necklace, but afflictive to bear (676). The narrator, in this section, faces the need to do the socially acceptable thing. After all, a man who does not work should not be paid or allowed to remain employed. As literary critic Richard J. Zlogar explained in a commentary that analogized Melville s short story with certain parts of The Bible, The narrator s challenge, then, if he is to heal Bartleby s illness in its social aspect, is the same challenge that confronted Jesus Christ in his interaction with the leper, as discussed by Crossan: he must force his peers either to reject him from their community or to accept the leper within it as well (Zlogar 521). It s how they act when things aren t good that tells you who they really are. ― Megan Jacobson (Goodreads, 56 Quotes ) Much like the world around us, literature has many elements that have the reader portray their own understanding and perspective of it. In Sweat, Zora Neale Hurstongives the reader many different situations where many readers can have several viewpoints. This seems to be very similar to the Bible, where a child of Godcan read the same scripture as another and have a completely different meaning in their eyes. Zora Hurston uses many elements that focus on the idea that actions one does speak louder than words, by the use of religious imagery and Delia, the wife. Sweat s narrator point of view is told in third person omniscient, meaning the narrator switches from character to character constantly and does not restrict the reader to one character s perspective. Hurston uses this element to introduce us to each of the characters daily life and their belief in Christianity. Not only does it give us each character s standpoint, but also clarification of an outside view and provide the reader with additional information and background of the married couple. It occurred in 146BC and officially marked the complete fall of the Greek resistance against the Roman Republic. This was such a destructive turning point for Greece because the city of Corinth possessed masses of wealth. It was a main hub of activity and politics for the Greece civilization. The battle occurred during a time when the Roman Republic sought to overtake Greece and all of its corresponding states. Rome had been proving its great military strength and superiority to neighboring nations previous to the Battle of Corinth. This period outlines the fall of the Greece nation and the rise of the Roman Republic. Corinth was one of the most powerful at that time. After the battle, the rest of Greece fell to the Romans as well. The Greek states tried to hold off and resist Roman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Analysis Of All Quiet On The Western Front By Erich Maria... World War I was a global war that originated in Europe and lasted from July 1914 to November 1918. Two writers that described their feelings during the war were Erich Maria Remarque, who wrote All Quiet on the Western Front, and Edward Thomas, who wrote This is no case of petty right or wrong . While Thomas uses metaphors and an aggravated tone to reveal why patriotism is more beneficial than nationalism in his poem, Remarque more effectively presents this theme through his more extensive use of specific metaphors, accusatory word choice, and emotional tone in his novel. As an example, Remarque is superior in the metaphors that he uses to describe the war and its negative impacts, thus making a more effective argument for patriotism and against... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Thomas uses We love ourselves as we hate her foe (Thomas 26). Thomas does not hate other countries more than he loves England. This shows the distinction between his view and nationalism, where Thomas would hate other countries more than he loves his. Thus, the reason why he wants to protect England is so that he can protect his own freedom. Remarque, on the other hand, has much stronger tone and word choice, which makes it more clear that Remarque is patriotic while also differentiating himself from the nationalist point of view. We loved our country as much as they; we went courageously into every action; but also we distinguished the false from the true, we had suddenly learned to see (Remarque 26). Here, courageously is referencing the fact that many of the soldiers were patriotic indeed, but the nationalist propaganda that authority was feeding them was fake. Thus, the soldiers are now able to see the amount of destruction that the nationalism had caused. Therefore, unlike Thomas, Remarque is able to add more depth about how others felt during the war to his arguments. Another quote Remarque uses shows how he can vary his tone to outline the innocence of the soldiers patriotism. It s queer, when one thinks about it, goes on Kropp, we are here to protect our fatherland. And the French are over there to protect their fatherland. Now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Power Of Music In The Soloist By Steve Lopez Healing Power of Music What if each day s goal is to fight inner demons? What if something as simple as music accomplishes this? In The Soloist, author Steve Lopez introduces the reader to a homeless schizophrenic fighting for survival on the streets of Los Angeles notorious Skid Row district. This man is Nathaniel Ayers, a talented musician who struggles with mental illness and depends on the sound of his instrument for peace. Portrayed through Lopez s friendship with Ayers, Lopez shows that music in itself has the power to heal or soothe a mind even a mind as troubled as Mr. Ayers. Like most schizophrenics, Ayers battles the voices and clouded thoughts plaguing his mind. He relies on the power of music to escape from the rumbles going ... The contrast between Skid Row and the music in his car allows the reader to visualize not only the emotion Lopez experiences in that moment, but the story of Ayers as a whole. A man who lives at times in such darkness is able to escape the pain through the sole gift of music. Lopez admits that, through the power of music, he has been transformed. The man he was before his friendship with Ayers is completely different then the man he became after. This is depicted at the Disney concert hall where Lopez says of Nathan: I ve never had a friend who lives in so spiritual a real as Mr Ayers, and I know that through his courage and humility and faith in the power of art through his very ability to find happiness and purpose he has awakened something in me. He is one of the reasons I thought seriously about leaving an industry in the throes of revolution, and he is the reason I ve decided i ll never be happy doing anything other than telling stories.(284) Lopez showcases that a homeless man s simple love for music can inspire someone as completely different as himself. Ayers healing through his passion for his art gives Lopez a deeper respect for the power of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Chapter 1 Of James Maccormick’S Book, Nine Algorithms That Chapter 1 of James MacCormick s book, Nine Algorithms That Changed The Future, provides an overview of what an algorithm is and introduces the reader of the algorithms that will be discussed throughout the book. An algorithm is a precise recipe that specifies the exact sequence of steps required to solve a problem (MacCormick, 3). Algorithm requires a sequence of steps that contain the instructions on what to do. One of the key elements of an algorithm is to have a set of rules in order to perform the mathematical calculations. Another feature of algorithms is that it always works. Computer sciencedescribes how to solve a problem using an algorithm. The main purpose of the book is to explain the algorithms one s computer uses everyday... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter 7 discusses compression algorithms. Compressions are used often and sometimes we may not even be aware of it. The items we download or upload may be compressed in order to save bandwidth. Chapter 8 discusses the fundamental algorithms underlying databases (MacCormick, 7). This chapter emphasizes the techniques used to achieve consistency and to ensure that databases never contradict each other. Chapter 9 discusses the ability to sign an electronic document digitally (MacCormick, 7). Chapter 10 discusses algorithms that would be considered great if it existed. The two main elements that make an algorithm considered to be good are that it solves a problem and it does it efficiently. In order to measure the efficiency of algorithms, computer scientists use asymptotic analysis, which allows algorithms to be compared independently of a particular programming language or hardware. This allows us to determine that some algorithms are more efficient than others. It is important that users find good algorithms and know when to apply them. This will allow people to write important programs. For instance, google is able to transmit live videos across the internet quickly because they use audio and visual compression algorithms ( What Is an Algorithm, n.p). Another example is google maps and its feature to give us transportation instruction to get to different places is possible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Transformational Leadership Model Style Introduction Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson, an English businessman and investor, is best known as the founder of Virgin Group. Branson is a high school dropout turned billionaire. The Virgin brand really started to take off in the 1980 s when he started Virgin Atlantic, which then grew to Virgin Records. Forbes listed Branson at an estimated new worth of $5 billion (Forbes.com, 2015). Virgin has grown into different sectors ranging from music to travel. There is currently more than 100 different Virgin companies across the world. The company has roughly 60,000 employees in over 50 different countries. Leadership Style and Impact Leadership is the ability to influence people toward the attainment of goals. A people activity, distinct from administrative paper shuffling or problem solving activities (Daft, 2011). Richard Branson most represents the transformational leadership model style. Transformational leaders have a special ability to bring out innovation and change by recognizing followers needs and concerns, providing meaning, challenging people to look at old problems in new was, and acting as role models for the new values and behaviors (Daft, 2011). Branson sees himself as a rule breaker because he never learned the rules in the first place. To change the game is at the heart of what Virgin stands for, so the company culture has always been: Don t sweat it: rules were meant to be broken (Schawbel, 2014). • 40. Freud s Theory Of Freud Freud was one of the most significant influences in the twentieth century for psychology. He founded and was later known as the father of psychoanalysis, it was used in treating people with mental illnesses. Most people know psychoanalysis as the therapy/talking remedy. He would sit his patients down and talk openly about their different emotions and problems they were currently facing. One of Freud s cases in particular was brought to people s attention. The case of Anna O the girls real name was Bertha, however this case was very important for Freud because it was basically what essentially started his career. The girl he called Anna suffered from hysteria, which is a condition in which the patient exhibits physical symptoms (e.g. paralysis, convulsions, hallucinations, loss of speech) without apparent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In more depth and better understanding of Freud s theory was that he believed the mind is made up of two main parts, the conscious and unconscious mind. The conscious are all things that come together in our minds without effort. However, the unconscious mind involves all the things that are external to our awareness, like our hopes, dreams, wishes and worries. These things are outside of our awareness but they still continue to impact on the way we act and the things we may say. Freud compared the mind to an iceberg. The tip of the iceberg that is actually visible above the water represents just a tiny portion of the mind, while the huge expanse of ice hidden underneath the water represents the much larger unconscious. (Cherry K 2013) Freud believed some events were so hard emotionally for some of the people to recognize that they put those awful thoughts in their unconscious mind. Freud used a relaxing environment when seeing his patients; he would put them almost in a deep relaxed state. The reason for this was to get the patients to reveal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Improvement Opportunity: The Define Phase The purpose of this project was to gain experience in quality improvement by working with an organization to identify a business problem, analyze the causes, develop an improvement plan, implement changes, and to verify the effectiveness of the solutions. For this project we had to keep scope in mind. This project had to follow certain criteria, such as: that it is a manageable project with a local organization, it can be completed within the time frame of the course, it has a direct impact on external customers, it is relatively simple, and that it is not something that is currently undergoing major changes. The company that our group has partnered with for this project is CVS Pharmacies. We looked into this company to see if there were any areas for improvement within the organization that would have an impact on external customers. Within this define stage is when we did exactly that, we defined the problem. One problem that we found within the CVS Pharmacy, that would be easy enough to handle given the scope of the project, concerned the stores current inventory (overstock, backstock) system. It seemed that currently there was no formalized process with regard to placing items in overstock, resulting in an unorganized and unconventional overstock area. This created a problem because it made it harder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of Nigeria s problems politically is that it has over three hundred different ethnic groups. The three largest of these are the Hausa Fulani, Igbo, and Yoruba. We propose a new structure for this relationship that accounts for the effect of conflicting managerial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With equity holdings around 50%, managers will have implicit control of their company, but still do not have objectives completely aligned to external shareholders. Only at very high levels of managerial holdings are incentives akin to other shareholders. When this model is applied to a large sample of firms incorporated in the UK, managerial ownership is seen to have a significant impact on corporate value. This relationship is endogenous, and consistent with Cho (1998) and Himmelberg et al. (1999), corporate value has a corresponding effect on managerial holdings. We also find that although ownership levels are affected by firm level investment, there is no evidence of the reverse occurring. In the next section we outline our model of the managerial ownership corporate value relationship. We present empirical results in Section 3 and conclude in Section 4. 2. • 48. An Unequal Distribution Of Wealth And Power Across The Nation Living in America, I have always been aware of fact that there is an unequal distribution of wealth and power across the nation. However, I was unaware that there is such a significant gap between the rich and the poor. It was made clear in the video Wealth Inequality in America , that the top 1% has more power and wealth than the middle and poor classes. The rich can get away with not paying their taxes and sitting on their pile of free money. In the meantime, the poorest people are down to the loose change in their pockets and are still paying their taxes. Corporations today have more privileges in America, including a voice in the democracy. People like us are being excluded from important decision making regarding our economic lives. Our understanding of what s going on with the wealth distribution and the actuality of what s going on is two completely different things. So you may ask, what s the reason behind this inequality? The answer is corporations and big businesses. Corporations such as Bank of America, Nike, Google, Apple, and Microsoft are rising to power. Corporations have also completely diminished the original intent of our Founding Fathers. According to Collin and Yeskel s Economic Apartheid in America , it s sad to say that many Americans are unaware of these things and it s starting to affect us as a country day by day.
