The Use Of Firearm Investigation On The Examination Of...
Sarah Schulteis
Professor Papez
Intro to Forensic Science
28 March 2015
Firearm Investigation
Firearm investigation is a specialty of forensic science focusing on the examination of firearms,
(Rankin) and has been around for hundreds of years. One of the earliest recorded cases was of a man
shot and killed in 1784 England with a pistol. The police found the wad of paper from the weapon and
matched it to a piece of torn newspaper in a suspect s pocket, sending him to jail (Triple Murder). In
modern times, examining the engravings, striations, and bullets, a trained eye can distinguish the type
of firearm used, and sometimes identify the exact one. Ballistics can help recreate a crime scene by
analyzing the wound size, damage, and angle of the bullet hole, along with the distribution of
ammunition and cartridges. Gunshot residue is another commonly implemented technique testing
hands, nearby objects, and the target for particles burned within a gun. This both helps recreate the
scene and identifies those who have recently shot a gun (Rankin). Due to increases in gun violence,
research has advanced so that, through the use of databases, the unique markings from spent
ammunition can be tracked to a single firearm and identify the shooter.
To understand the process of firearm investigations, it is important to understand the mechanics of
firing a gun. The most generic gun aims to convert chemical energy into kinetic energy in order to
expel a projectile from the firearm.

La Movida Madrileña
La Movida Madrileña, meaning The Action of Madrid , was an unplanned countercultural movement
from 1977 to 1985 in Spain. It began when Dictator Francisco Franco died and Spain erupted with
pent up energy. It was a movement that valued style over substance. The cultural revolution was
evident in the music, subculture, fashion, alcohol, drugs, and sexual experimentation. La Movida took
place primarily in Madrid, although some other cities such as Barcelona and Vigo had their own
Movidas. Popular nightlife slang of the time reflected the spirit of the movement: ¿Dónde está la
movida? Where s the action? La Movida began when Dictator Francisco Franco died in Madrid on

modern rocker witch and an alternative role model for kids. Other musicians and the music scene as a
whole played a huge part in La Movida. Some say that the music most defined the movement, and it is
what locals remember most from La Movida. The music was very heavily punk and new wave
influenced. Although the music of La Movida was huge in Madrid, it made a small international
impact at the time. Only the band Mecano had any significant audience outside of Spain. Some bands
from the time of La Movida are making a strong comeback today. There was also a distinct film
movement during La Movida. A famous filmmaker, Pedro Almoóvar, was prominent during this time.
His films reflected the freedom of the movement and it s rush to join other Western countries. Other
filmmakers from the time include Fernando Trueba and Fernando Colomo. The photographers from
this time were unique and daring. Ouka Leele, Alberto García Alix, and Pablo Pérez Mínguez were
prominent photographers of La Movida. Ouka Leele specialized in black and white photographs and

Essay On Race And Culture
Society has always struggled to discern the difference between the appropriation and appreciation of
race and cultures. With the advent of new media and anonymous interactions, these struggles reach a
new level of complications and concerns, thus necessitating an open platform for the development of
proper etiquette. Virtual communities have an incredible potential to help individuals of different
racial backgrounds understand one another, however, this potential is stagnated by the relentless
perpetuation of racial stereotypes on various domains.
In modern society, it is not uncommon for people to have access to the internet. Whether one has
access to the internet at home or at their local library, nearly everyone in this day and age ... Show

Under these conditions, the potentiality for individuals to gain insights on the experiences of the
oppressed is not only eradicated, but it is replaced with cheap, one dimensional and detrimental
stereotype instead.
Perhaps one problem with new media is its inconsistency in requiring elements of identity across
various platforms. While it may require someone to identify a gender, it might not ask them to declare
a race. The underlying problem here is society s propensity to assume that if one does not declare their
race, the default is white. By declaring a race, a user chooses to play as that race regardless of whether
or not it is truly representative of who they are. There are two common outcomes of this choice.
In one instance, people of another race will elect to play the role of an Asian woman. While there are
many possible ways to showcase one s personality, most players decide to engage in a form of hostile
performance (Nakamura 2) instead. By doing this, the achievements, challenges and experiences of
Asian women are completely disregarded in favor of the romanticized belief that Asian women are
docile, submissive, and exotic. This type of behavior is problematic because roles give people new
stages on which to exercise new identities, and

Persuasive Essay About Tattoos
As anyone who has ever made the leap to get a tattoo knows, it is an extremely involved process that
cannot be taken lightly. The depictions of the tattooing process in the media are skewed: that of
walking into a studio at two in the morning while intoxicated to get a petite tattoo of a butterfly and
walking out half an hour later with no issues. More realistically, the tattooing process is an immensely
serious one with respect to artistic integrity and medical safety. If upon leaving the tattoo studio, you
don t reek of Green Soap, chances are, you had a subpar experience. The initial step in getting a tattoo
is one that most potential clients have trouble with, deciding on a design! Most artists will have a
portfolio of premade designs to choose from, but the quintessence of getting a tattoo is approaching an
artist with a completely unique and personal concept. This step cannot be taken lightly, as one must
take into consideration the following when thinking about their design: placement, size, budget, color,
durability, pain, and feasibility. It s improbable to expect an artist to be able to recreate a photo
realistic image in a five inch tattoo in the ditch of a client s knee, for example. When thinking of a
design, consider that it must be large enough to convey the image accurately with enough black
outlining to ensure the color won t leak or fade into the skin over time while not simultaneously be too
large as to break the bank or require copious sessions of

The Crime Of A Juvenile Gang Essay
A juvenile gang is a group of youth that causes intimidation and commit criminal acts to gain power to
be in control. According to a study done by David Pyrooz, a professor at Sam Houston State
University in Huntsville Texas, more than one million juveniles in the United States of America is in a
gang. The study found 40% of juvenile gangs are non Hispanic white and the rest is Black and Latino.
The study also found, 30% of those gang members were females. Most youth who joins gangs do so
around ages 12 or 13, but the peak age for gang membership is 14 and 15years old. Although gang
membership is portrayed as a lifelong commitment, the average gang member joins at age 14 and only
stays in for about two years. Only 40% of all gangs will allow females to join, and there are
approximately 32,000 female gang members. There are many factors why juveniles join gangs, and
some of them are because it increases self esteem, they have access to drugs to either sell or use them,
and it gives the males opportunities to meet up with other young females and have sex. A negative
factor is peer pressure. Some factors why females join gangs are sexual abuse and victimization,
family dysfunctions, emotional disorders, exposure to violence, and negligence. Some youths parents
aren t in the home, they have nobody forcing them to go to school, and then they start failing which
leads to drop outs. Many juvenile gang prevention programs were created in the United States, to

Meanwhile, the shortest plant measured for the SUPERthrive grew a total of 6.85 cm. The tallest plant
measured for the control group grew 10.5 cm, while the tallest plant measured for the SUPERthrive
group grew 8.5 cm. Figure 1 shows each of the heights for all three weeks. There is little change

Studies have proven that kelp can accelerate growth, increase flowering, and provide resistance to
disease ( Benefits of Kelp , n.d.). When comparing Figures 3 and 4, the SUPERthrive zinnias appear
to have healthier growth and are generally larger than the control group. Many of the SUPERthrive
zinnias also flowered, and overall looked healthier than the control zinnias. Because kelp has been
proven to increase growth, health, and flowering, it may be the reason why the experimental zinnias
had more success than the control.
The synthetic auxin found in SUPERthrive, indole 3 bytric acid, may be a key player in the benefits of
SUPERthrive, if there are any. For example, indole 3 acetic acid (IAA), the main auxin in higher
plants, has been found to have positive effects on plant growth and development. Auxin is able to
stimulate differential growth, specifically in response to gravity or light stimuli. Another important
aspect of auxin is its ability to detect developmental defects caused by auxin deficiency. With
SUPERthrive having indole 3 bytric acid as one of its main ingredients, there should be some benefits
from its use (Zhao, 2010). The increased growth seen in the SUPERthrive zinnias may have been due
to the additive of auxins in the product. Overall, it is hard to draw conclusions based off the results of
this experiment. While the SUPERthrive zinnias did experience a larger growth of 4.5 cm average

Haroun and the Sea of Stories: Magic Meets Real World Haroun and the Sea of Stories is a children s
novel, written by Salman Rushdie, who is one of the prominent authors of magical realism in English
literature. The novel brings together real world elements and features of magic or the supernatural.
Using elements of literature such as made up words and rhyming throughout Haroun and the Sea of
Stories, Rushdie showcases why he is a distinguished author of magical realism. (Warnes) The novel
begins by introducing the city in which the main character lives. Rushdie calls it the sad city because
the citizens are so depressed, they have forgotten the city s actual name. Haroun and his parents are
the only people not depressed. Rashid, Haroun s father, is a famous story teller. The depressed citizens
solely care about facts and see no purpose in these made up stories. Haroun s upstairs neighbor, Mr.
Sengupta, is always complaining to Haroun s mother about these stories and eventually runs off with
her. This leads to the main conflict of the story, Rashid becoming so sad he forgets how to tell his
stories. (Rushdie, 12 26) Rashid needs to perform stories for multiple politicos, but draws a blank.
After angering the politicos, they send him to Valley of K. Haroun and his father go to the bus station

The effect of working and studying to become a nurse at the same time is very intimidating. There is
some truth to it, making money while working towards achieving the educational goals, like getting

Responsibility Of Creation In Frankenstein
Parents and creators set the main foundation to their creation or offspring. Though Sharon Begley
portrayed that the environment in where the creation or offspring were raised also hindered their
outcome as an adult and the amount of violence contributed. Mary Shelley s fascinating science
fiction novel, Frankenstein, conveyed how the creation was a living proof of how without a creator or
parent to guide him through as a child he would have a higher chance of committing a crime or
becoming violent. Shelly further suggests that since the creation grew up isolated and rejected by the
people around him it increased his aggression as he grew older and hindered his behavior vastly. The
responsibility of a creator is not just to create, but to love and protect their children. They are a
product of not just their own inherited nature, but also as important of their creator s nurturing or lack
thereof. One responsibility of a creator is to take responsibility of their creation, instead of abandoning
it, they should nurture it. The creator should love their creation despite anything because it is
something they created and their minds are still innocent; the creation just wants attention and to be
loved. After Victor created his creation, he referred to him as a hideous monster because of how he
looked. The creation in Shelley s story emphasizes the loneliness of growing up feeling miserable and
abandoned, (Shelley 165), and how Victor s job as a creator was not carried out.

According to Article II, Section 2, Clause I of the Constitution, the President of the United States is
commander in chief of the United States Armed Forces U.S. ranks have their roots in British military
traditions, with the President possessing ultimate authority, but no rank , maintaining a civilian status.
What this means in Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution, refers to the President as the commander

once war was declared, it would then be the responsibility of the President, as the commander in chief,
to direct the war. As with European monarchies, the position of the American president as the nominal
head of the armed forces is deeply rooted in traditions going back centuries. However, there are
limitations on the authority of the President and what he can and cannot do, such as he can make the
decision on the amount of troops are on the ground and if and when the attack will began, but he
cannot start a war without Congressional approval. A Declaration of War must be passed by congress

Revenge of Medea
Medea was such a different woman and people in her society were afraid of her, including men. As a
result of this, before Jason, she never experienced being in love. When she finally experienced this
type of love she went to no end for Jason. To protect Jason and her love for him she killed the beast
guarding the Golden Fleece, she killed her brother, and she left her home, family and everything she
knew for him. Most women would not have gone that far for love, especially women during her time;
but Medea was not your average woman. All of the things she did for Jason. But start when Jason

she has was her husband but now her husband going to leave her and marry another woman. She had

She said in the country where she from if a man grows tired of the company at home, he can go out,

her she rather die instead of seeing her husband leaving her and she wants only her husband to her and

This is what Medea said to the woman of Corinth If I can find a way to work revenge on Jason for his

The Caps Test For Career Assessment
Section One The CAPS test administered for career assessment, the assessment relates to occupation
and occupational abilities. In order for this test to be consider reliable, it must consistent in that it
measures what it suppose to measure (Knapp, Knapp, Knapp Lee, 1992, p. 40), which is occupational
abilities. I believe that the CAPS test has acceptable reliable, if the test was re administered in two
weeks, I would have similar results because the timing and length of the test reduced my chances of
memorizing the content of the test. To have validity, a test must measure what it purports to measure
(Hays, 2013, p. 96). In my opinion, the CAPS has fairly acceptable validity but lacks face validity in
that it does not look like it measure occupational abilities but educational abilities. However, face
validity does not prove as evidence of validity (Hays, 2013, p. 97). I believe the CAPS has fairly
acceptable validity, because it fairly predicts appropriate careers according to the test taker s high
interest areas. While administering the test, I was very nervous at first. I knew that I had to strictly

A Literary Analysis of Robert Cormier s The Chocolate War
The Chocolate War is a story which takes place in New England in the 1970 s. Most of the events
happen in a Catholic school. Since this school was exclusively for boys, they were constantly trying to
prove their power over each other. The story is told in third person omniscient. The story s mood is
suspenseful. With each page turn one wonders if Jerry will take or refuse his chocolates. The
protagonist of this story is Jerry Renault and the antagonist in Archie Costello. Jerry is a very quiet

These chocolate sales raise money for the school and give more authority to Leon. The Brother then
bribes people to sell chocolates. He eventually brings disaster to the school.
The major conflict in The Chocolate War is the conflict between Jerry and Archie. Archie has assigned
Jerry to decline his share of chocolates to sell for ten days. Jerry carries out this assignment; but on the
eleventh day he continues to decline the chocolates. Archie reminds Jerry that he is only to decline for
ten days. Jerry continues to disobey. He is committing ultimate betrayal; he is intentionally ignoring
the orders of The Vigils. Archie and Jerry become enemies, and they continuously quarrel. Archie
finally orders a fight between Emile, a Vigil wannabe, and Jerry.
One minor conflict is between Jerry and his unresolved feelings toward his mother s death. These
feelings, I felt, were mainly the reason he did not take the chocolates. Jerry is looking for a change in
his life; a change to get him away from thinking of his mother. Another minor conflict is between Obie
and Archie. Obie feels that he is always taking blame for Archie s doings. If Archie fails then Obie
takes blame. If Archie succeeds then Archie gets the credit. Obie becomes angrier with each
assignment Archie gives out.
The turning point in the story takes place when Jerry refuses to take the

practices and technology to reach learning goals and build interest in needed math areas.
Deficits in math proficiency are a matter of national concern (Beal, Walles, Arroyo, Woolf, 2007).
Students are struggling to pass statewide subject area tests, reach suitable ACT scores, and/or enter
college without enrolling in remediation classes in math. According to the American Institutes for
Research, American students score well below comparable students in other countries (Phillips, 2009).
Deficiencies in math scores tend to slip as students progress from one grade to the next. This chain of
events creates students who select non based math studies as they enter high school and college which
can create real voids in our work force.
Math anxiety hinders students mathematics learning, thinking positive about math, and feeling calm.
This fear causes low self esteem,

Machiavelli’s Views on Government Essay
At first glance Machiavelli s writings could be mistaken for evil and satanic beliefs, but in reality there
are many good underlying points as to how to rule a nation. I believe that the New Yorker s
description of Machiavelli is the best example of his life and beliefs, because it not only touches upon
the high points, but the low points of beliefs as well. The New Yorker goes into great detail about how
Machiavelli came up from a mid level family to achieve a role as a government official/ ambassador
just to be thrown in prison after years of trying to stabilize and unify an unstable country through
means of war and fear. Machiavelli wasn t only a government official he was a strategic genius, but
only because as ambassador he had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Machiavelli wrote about the young leader Borgia who conquered many nations in the
name of Spain. He explained how it was necessary for a prince... to work against what is merciful,
loyal, humane, upright, and scrupulous. . This makes a ruler look bad, however in reality what the
ruler does make a ruler look bad may improve the quality of the nations he is conquering and ruling.
Machiavelli wrote that Borgia conquered many nations, but these nations had weak rulers, who had let
the nations become over run with crime and filth, but once conquered by Borgia and his men were
brought up to a good quality standard with less crime and more peace and order, due to the
enforcement of Spanish law. That is why Machiavelli s misconceived writings were actually meant to
show that even though a ruler may look bad in people s eyes, his actions actually create good within
the nations he controls. A more recent example of a leader who would fit under Machiavelli s theory
was Adolf Hitler. Hitler was an extremist whose views should never be tolerated, but in reality he had
helped his people get out of an economic depression and improved the quality of life for many
Germans. What Machiavelli is trying to imply is to be a good leader isn t to be the most well liked
person, but to get results that improve people s lives even if you have to be seen in a negative light. I

Ethos Pathos And Logos Analysis
Before the building of architectural achievements such as the Roman Colosseum, the Taj Mahal, and
the Windsor Castle, a Greek philosopher named Aristotle had created the three pillars of persuasive
speech over 2,000 years ago. These three pillars are known as ethos, logos, and pathos. The
architectural feats mentioned above had been created to last and withstand demolition from external
forces such as the weather, aging, and cracking/erosion. Just like these buildings are structured, an
argument needs to be well put together so it cannot be torn apart. This resulted in the creation of the
three pillars. In the reading of Monstrous Beginnings, the author, W. Scott Poole, uses Aristotle s three
pillars attempting to convince the reader that among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pathos involves getting an emotional response from the reader, which is something that Poole
struggles to do in this writing. Although it is truly unfortunate how certain groups of people were
treated back then, Poole struggles to make you feel any sympathy for how the minorities were treated.
He does not include many stories that invoke feelings of anger towards the treatment of the natives or
pity or sorrow towards them. Another part that made his writing hard to read or feel any emotion over
were his long winded sentences. Many sentences went on longer than they should have, or could have
been cut in half to make shorter sentences so the material would become easier to read. Poole s writing
definitely leaned more toward the educational side than the emotional side as it seemed to read more
like a textbook than his own thoughts. However, there are a few examples in his writing that if he
made an effort, he could establish pathos much better. For example, Francisco de Chicora could have
made for a great story to establish pathos as he was a native who was kidnapped by Spanish explorers
and was forced into a different religion but was able to escape from them (179). However, the reader
learns the bulk of that information in the footnotes rather than by reading an emotional story that
would help establish the pathos in his writing. Poole is not able to evoke much, if any,

Going into the American Revolution the British and American Colonists had many advantages. They

The British had many advantages going into the American Revolution. One advantage is that they had
a professional army that was well trained. By having a well trained army they had a better chance of
winning the battles. The British troops were already in the colonies, the most important places being
the port cities such as New York and Boston. The British had a veteran officer corps. Their officers

really an evil religion that would go as far as sacrificing humans as well as animals to the demonic

An Analysis Of Euripides Medea
The Character of Medea in Euripides
Euripides presents one of the most shocking female characters in literature, through Medea, a devotee
of the goddess Hecate, and one of the great sorceresses of the ancient world. She was the daughter of
King Aeetes of Colchis, and the granddaughter of Helios, the sun god. King Aeetes most valuable
possession was a golden ram s fleece. When Jason, the man Medea falls in love with, arrives at
Colchis seeking the Golden Fleece, Aeetes sets Jason a series of seemingly impossible tasks as the
price for obtaining it. Medea falls in love with Jason and agrees to use her magic to help him, in return
for Jason s promise to marry her. Jason fled once he obtained the Golden Fleece, taking Medea and
her younger brother, Absyrtis, with him, as King Aeetes pursued them. In order to delay the pursuit,
Medea killed her brother and cut his body into pieces, scattering the parts behind the ship. This caused
the pursuers to stop and collect Absyrtis dismembered body in order to give it proper burial, which
thus gave Jason, Medea and the Argonauts the time to escape. On Jason s safe return to his home in
Iolcus, Medea continued to use her sorcery. She restored the youth of Jason s aged father, Aeson, by
cutting his throat and filling his body with a magical potion. She tricked Pelias daughters into killing
him, but left the corpse without any youth restoring potion. After the murder of Pelias, Jason and

The Importance Of Uniformity
I was asked to choose a piece of art, book, or musical that impacted me and how I view the world.
Personally the musical Wicked by Winne Holzman has taught me something very important, it has
become integral in the way I live my life. This lesson is to never let anyone dictate who you are, don t
let their opinion become yours. All too often in today s society people lose themselves trying to
become what the majority of people would have them be. Years ago I had a personal experience with
this, I spent so much time trying to fix something everyone told me was incorrect. I slowly became
consumed with trying to fit into the societal definition of what was considered normal that I lost
myself completely. So many people have fallen into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes this can sprout deeper issues, when I had a brush with this I decided that letting someone s
subjective version of normal decide who I strived to be was unhealthy and irrational. I ve learned that
unless you re comfortable with yourself you will never be comfortable, this inane chase after
normalcy can make you feel anxious or depressed. It can also make you feel wrong, wrong for
thinking the way you do or believing what you believe. Then I realized it doesn t matter what people
think of me, that felt amazing to finally understand. That all of these opinions and labels only applied
if I let them, they didn t matter unless I chose to use them myself. I realized other people don t have
the right to make me feel inferior to them, I found that after becoming comfortable with who I was I
didn t dread leaving my house. I was able to enjoy myself without being afraid of who might be
watching, I was able to be myself for the first time in a long time. What people in future generations
need to understand is that not everyone has the same thoughts on what is normal . We need to teach
the next generation to value themselves regardless of what other people think. We need to teach them
that putting someone else down because they are different is wrong, that it s okay not to fit in. What

Over the years I ve seen many changes in real estate investing. Currently, I m seeing a subtle but oh so
ever present transition in real estate investing. It involves a shift in the way folks think about their real
estate investment, a movement towards being more dispassionate, a movement away from qualitative
and being more focused on the quantitative. Folks historically look at property differently than they do
other investments. They look at their rental properties with the same viewpoint that they look at their
home, with some pride of possession.
You would not look on your technology stock with pride of possession, unless maybe it was Apple
stock and you used to be a Macophile. But with real estate, there has a tendency to not only take pride
in your properties, but to extend the stock analogy a buy and hold mind set.
What I am both seeing and recommending is a shift away from that. For one thing, if you go into RE
investing with that disposition, it will break your heart. You can not think about investment property

Will Low Interest Rates Eventually Boost Corporate Risk...
Will Low Interest Rates Eventually Boost Corporate Risk Taking?
The intellectual foundation for cutting central bank policy rates to near zero is based on the traditional
view that a lower cost of debt funding will boost aggregate demand via an increase in capital spending
as well as higher borrowing by the private sector. The credibility of this viewpoint has, however, been
increasingly questioned over time, particularly in the wake of Japan s prolonged experience with ultra
low interest rates and its ensuing failure to encourage the growth of private sector leverage. Nominal
interest rates remain very low in advanced economies, but there is considerable variation on inflation
adjusted measures on a cross border basis. Real interest rates remain high in Japan due to deflationary
expectations, despite the fact that prices have ceased falling. It was the persistence of deflationary
psychology and high real interest rates that consequently produced a prolonged corporate balance
sheet recession, where the main objective was to pay down debt. Risk taking endeavours, such as
capital spending, were, therefore, off limits during this period. Despite having much healthier balance
sheets, Corporate Japan continues to sit on a mountain of cash, equivalent to 48% of GDP. Meanwhile,
US companies also continue to operate with high levels of liquidity. The willingness to use leverage
during the current cycle has, however, been somewhat higher in the US vis à vis Japan. There is also a

Sigmund Freud s Civilization And Its Discontents
Sigmund Freud, in his book Civilization and Its Discontents, contests that humans are subject to
savage, animalistic instincts. He opposes the Marxist value that humans are superior to their animal
counterparts, rather, he holds, humans are quite like wolves to each other. With this claim, he explores
how internal compositions work in the grand scheme, to create a working mechanism of society that
tames and creates internal negotiations of behaviour and instinct. (also include what comes of the last
question) Freud, a psychologist, had views that were at odds with Marxist values, derived from a
philosopher and economist. Their views on what drives human nature are fundamentally different.
Freud adhered to the belief that humans are enslaved by their instinctive forces. This is to say that
humans are driven to seek out pleasure. Marx, on the other hand, believed that humans are motivated
by their place in society through labour. His core value was the division of labor, and how it structures
society. Freud understood man in a Darwinian sense, that man comes from natural selection, in the
sense that Darwin insisted on its [homo sapiens] kinship with lesser cousins and observed that the
stamp of [its] lowly origin was quite ineffaceable (12). This contrasts with the Marxist assumption that
humans are different from animals, the belief in human exceptionalism. Under this presumption, Marx
finds that abuse and violence occurs in consequence to disproportionate distributions

Benefits Of A Good Samaritan Hospital Essay

Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island have higher rates of readmission than the

MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital is a 287 bed, short term acute care hospital located in Baltimore,
Maryland. Founded in 1968 via a donation from a philanthropist, it has approximately 2,000
employees. Good Samaritan has no accreditations but is designated to be a Primary Stroke Center by
The Joint Commission ( Healthgrades, 2015). At first glance, it is somewhat surprising that they
would have a higher than average readmission rate for stroke patients, however, considering the
Stroke Center designation, one must take into consideration that they are seeing a higher than average
number of stroke patients. While the national goal for stroke related deaths is 34.8 out of 100,000
admissions, MedStar currently has 48.1 deaths associated with stroke related admissions. This less

MedStar strives to always put the patient first. Its mission and vision clearly state this to be a priority,
while one of the values that it subscribes to is open and honest communication ( MedStar, 2015).

Scarlett repeats variation of this line several times over the course of the novel when hardships plague

to avoid feelings of guilt and helplessness she simply avoids reflecting on her life. Scarlett knows
eventually she should mull over her plight, but she always puts it off until another, different day,
which never truly comes. But this refusal to reflect is crucial to Scarlett s survival. Her attitude
contrasts directly with Ashley s obsession with the past and inability to let go of nostalgia and adapt to

one that the calibre of Mr Ferdinand Porsche s weapons were far inferior to that of the allies and were
not advanced enough. Due to this fault the German regime was deteriorating as they could not fend of
their competitors.
However these viewpoints are weak and are simply not logical. A man of calibre such as Mr
Ferdinand Porsche would not have aided the USSR with weaponry, simply due to his personal
relationship to Adolf Hitler and his strong connection to Nazism. But indeed the third aspect
mentioned should definitely be taken into account. That is that the caliber and capacity of his weapons
were inferior to that of the Western allies which intern puts a minute extent of the blame of the Nazi
empire on Mr

  • 2. The Use Of Firearm Investigation On The Examination Of... Sarah Schulteis Professor Papez Intro to Forensic Science 28 March 2015 Firearm Investigation Firearm investigation is a specialty of forensic science focusing on the examination of firearms, (Rankin) and has been around for hundreds of years. One of the earliest recorded cases was of a man shot and killed in 1784 England with a pistol. The police found the wad of paper from the weapon and matched it to a piece of torn newspaper in a suspect s pocket, sending him to jail (Triple Murder). In modern times, examining the engravings, striations, and bullets, a trained eye can distinguish the type of firearm used, and sometimes identify the exact one. Ballistics can help recreate a crime scene by analyzing the wound size, damage, and angle of the bullet hole, along with the distribution of ammunition and cartridges. Gunshot residue is another commonly implemented technique testing hands, nearby objects, and the target for particles burned within a gun. This both helps recreate the scene and identifies those who have recently shot a gun (Rankin). Due to increases in gun violence, research has advanced so that, through the use of databases, the unique markings from spent ammunition can be tracked to a single firearm and identify the shooter. To understand the process of firearm investigations, it is important to understand the mechanics of firing a gun. The most generic gun aims to convert chemical energy into kinetic energy in order to expel a projectile from the firearm. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. La Movida Madrileña La Movida Madrileña, meaning The Action of Madrid , was an unplanned countercultural movement from 1977 to 1985 in Spain. It began when Dictator Francisco Franco died and Spain erupted with pent up energy. It was a movement that valued style over substance. The cultural revolution was evident in the music, subculture, fashion, alcohol, drugs, and sexual experimentation. La Movida took place primarily in Madrid, although some other cities such as Barcelona and Vigo had their own Movidas. Popular nightlife slang of the time reflected the spirit of the movement: ¿Dónde está la movida? Where s the action? Other musicians and the music scene as a whole played a huge part in La Movida. Some say that the music most defined the movement, and it is what locals remember most from La Movida. The music was very heavily punk and new wave influenced. Although the music of La Movida was huge in Madrid, it made a small international impact at the time. Only the band Mecano had any significant audience outside of Spain. Some bands from the time of La Movida are making a strong comeback today. There was also a distinct film movement during La Movida. A famous filmmaker, Pedro Almoóvar, was prominent during this time. His films reflected the freedom of the movement and it s rush to join other Western countries. Other filmmakers from the time include Fernando Trueba and Fernando Colomo. The photographers from this time were unique and daring. Ouka Leele, Alberto García Alix, and Pablo Pérez Mínguez were prominent photographers of La Movida. Ouka Leele specialized in black and white photographs and wildly colorful ... • 4. Essay On Race And Culture Society has always struggled to discern the difference between the appropriation and appreciation of race and cultures. With the advent of new media and anonymous interactions, these struggles reach a new level of complications and concerns, thus necessitating an open platform for the development of proper etiquette. Virtual communities have an incredible potential to help individuals of different racial backgrounds understand one another, however, this potential is stagnated by the relentless perpetuation of racial stereotypes on various domains. In modern society, it is not uncommon for people to have access to the internet. Whether one has access to the internet at home or at their local library, nearly everyone in this day and age ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Under these conditions, the potentiality for individuals to gain insights on the experiences of the oppressed is not only eradicated, but it is replaced with cheap, one dimensional and detrimental stereotype instead. Perhaps one problem with new media is its inconsistency in requiring elements of identity across various platforms. While it may require someone to identify a gender, it might not ask them to declare a race. The underlying problem here is society s propensity to assume that if one does not declare their race, the default is white. By declaring a race, a user chooses to play as that race regardless of whether or not it is truly representative of who they are. There are two common outcomes of this choice. In one instance, people of another race will elect to play the role of an Asian woman. While there are many possible ways to showcase one s personality, most players decide to engage in a form of hostile performance (Nakamura 2) instead. By doing this, the achievements, challenges and experiences of Asian women are completely disregarded in favor of the romanticized belief that Asian women are docile, submissive, and exotic. This type of behavior is problematic because roles give people new stages on which to exercise new identities, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Persuasive Essay About Tattoos As anyone who has ever made the leap to get a tattoo knows, it is an extremely involved process that cannot be taken lightly. The depictions of the tattooing process in the media are skewed: that of walking into a studio at two in the morning while intoxicated to get a petite tattoo of a butterfly and walking out half an hour later with no issues. More realistically, the tattooing process is an immensely serious one with respect to artistic integrity and medical safety. If upon leaving the tattoo studio, you don t reek of Green Soap, chances are, you had a subpar experience. The initial step in getting a tattoo is one that most potential clients have trouble with, deciding on a design! Most artists will have a portfolio of premade designs to choose from, but the quintessence of getting a tattoo is approaching an artist with a completely unique and personal concept. This step cannot be taken lightly, as one must take into consideration the following when thinking about their design: placement, size, budget, color, durability, pain, and feasibility. It s improbable to expect an artist to be able to recreate a photo realistic image in a five inch tattoo in the ditch of a client s knee, for example. When thinking of a design, consider that it must be large enough to convey the image accurately with enough black outlining to ensure the color won t leak or fade into the skin over time while not simultaneously be too large as to break the bank or require copious sessions of ... • 6. The Crime Of A Juvenile Gang Essay A juvenile gang is a group of youth that causes intimidation and commit criminal acts to gain power to be in control. According to a study done by David Pyrooz, a professor at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville Texas, more than one million juveniles in the United States of America is in a gang. The study found 40% of juvenile gangs are non Hispanic white and the rest is Black and Latino. The study also found, 30% of those gang members were females. Most youth who joins gangs do so around ages 12 or 13, but the peak age for gang membership is 14 and 15years old. Although gang membership is portrayed as a lifelong commitment, the average gang member joins at age 14 and only stays in for about two years. Only 40% of all gangs will allow females to join, and there are approximately 32,000 female gang members. There are many factors why juveniles join gangs, and some of them are because it increases self esteem, they have access to drugs to either sell or use them, and it gives the males opportunities to meet up with other young females and have sex. A negative factor is peer pressure. Some factors why females join gangs are sexual abuse and victimization, family dysfunctions, emotional disorders, exposure to violence, and negligence. Some youths parents aren t in the home, they have nobody forcing them to go to school, and then they start failing which leads to drop outs. When comparing Figures 3 and 4, the SUPERthrive zinnias appear to have healthier growth and are generally larger than the control group. Many of the SUPERthrive zinnias also flowered, and overall looked healthier than the control zinnias. Because kelp has been proven to increase growth, health, and flowering, it may be the reason why the experimental zinnias had more success than the control. The synthetic auxin found in SUPERthrive, indole 3 bytric acid, may be a key player in the benefits of SUPERthrive, if there are any. For example, indole 3 acetic acid (IAA), the main auxin in higher plants, has been found to have positive effects on plant growth and development. Auxin is able to stimulate differential growth, specifically in response to gravity or light stimuli. Another important aspect of auxin is its ability to detect developmental defects caused by auxin deficiency. With SUPERthrive having indole 3 bytric acid as one of its main ingredients, there should be some benefits from its use (Zhao, 2010). The increased growth seen in the SUPERthrive zinnias may have been due to the additive of auxins in the product. Overall, it is hard to draw conclusions based off the results of this experiment. The novel brings together real world elements and features of magic or the supernatural. Using elements of literature such as made up words and rhyming throughout Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Rushdie showcases why he is a distinguished author of magical realism. (Warnes) The novel begins by introducing the city in which the main character lives. Rushdie calls it the sad city because the citizens are so depressed, they have forgotten the city s actual name. Haroun and his parents are the only people not depressed. Rashid, Haroun s father, is a famous story teller. The depressed citizens solely care about facts and see no purpose in these made up stories. Haroun s upstairs neighbor, Mr. Sengupta, is always complaining to Haroun s mother about these stories and eventually runs off with her. This leads to the main conflict of the story, Rashid becoming so sad he forgets how to tell his stories. (Rushdie, 12 26) Rashid needs to perform stories for multiple politicos, but draws a blank. When asked whether The Boy Who Cried Wolf is a representation of his definitive sound or whether it s something that will be always developing and changing with more releases, I think it is all under the umbrella of Pop or Alternative . • 12. Responsibility Of Creation In Frankenstein Parents and creators set the main foundation to their creation or offspring. Though Sharon Begley portrayed that the environment in where the creation or offspring were raised also hindered their outcome as an adult and the amount of violence contributed. Mary Shelley s fascinating science fiction novel, Frankenstein, conveyed how the creation was a living proof of how without a creator or parent to guide him through as a child he would have a higher chance of committing a crime or becoming violent. Shelly further suggests that since the creation grew up isolated and rejected by the people around him it increased his aggression as he grew older and hindered his behavior vastly. The responsibility of a creator is not just to create, but to love and protect their children. They are a product of not just their own inherited nature, but also as important of their creator s nurturing or lack thereof. One responsibility of a creator is to take responsibility of their creation, instead of abandoning it, they should nurture it. The creator should love their creation despite anything because it is something they created and their minds are still innocent; the creation just wants attention and to be loved. After Victor created his creation, he referred to him as a hideous monster because of how he looked. The creation in Shelley s story emphasizes the loneliness of growing up feeling miserable and abandoned, (Shelley 165), and how Victor s job as a creator was not carried out. ... Most if not all of Robert s printing work was of an official nature, including prayer books, scriptures, and law books. In 1611, Robert Barker printed the first edition of the King James Bible. The entire cost of the printing was undertaken by Barker who ultimately gained little financial reward, but some fame for the work. The printing itself was substandard with uneven printing lines, the less modern blackletter typeface used was considered poor quality, and it contained many typographal mistakes, which were corrected in subsequent printings. Section 2 Section 1 According to Article II, Section 2, Clause I of the Constitution, the President of the United States is commander in chief of the United States Armed Forces U.S. ranks have their roots in British military traditions, with the President possessing ultimate authority, but no rank , maintaining a civilian status. What this means in Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution, refers to the President as the commander in chief of the army and navy of the United States. What the founders meant by this clause was that once war was declared, it would then be the responsibility of the President, as the commander in chief, to direct the war. As with European monarchies, the position of the American president as the nominal head of the armed forces is deeply rooted in traditions going back centuries. However, there are limitations on the authority of the President and what he can and cannot do, such as he can make the decision on the amount of troops are on the ground and if and when the attack will began, but he cannot start a war without Congressional approval. In order for this test to be consider reliable, it must consistent in that it measures what it suppose to measure (Knapp, Knapp, Knapp Lee, 1992, p. 40), which is occupational abilities. I believe that the CAPS test has acceptable reliable, if the test was re administered in two weeks, I would have similar results because the timing and length of the test reduced my chances of memorizing the content of the test. To have validity, a test must measure what it purports to measure (Hays, 2013, p. 96). In my opinion, the CAPS has fairly acceptable validity but lacks face validity in that it does not look like it measure occupational abilities but educational abilities. However, face validity does not prove as evidence of validity (Hays, 2013, p. 97). I believe the CAPS has fairly acceptable validity, because it fairly predicts appropriate careers according to the test taker s high interest areas. A Literary Analysis of Robert Cormier s The Chocolate War The Chocolate War is a story which takes place in New England in the 1970 s. Most of the events happen in a Catholic school. Since this school was exclusively for boys, they were constantly trying to prove their power over each other. The story is told in third person omniscient. The story s mood is suspenseful. With each page turn one wonders if Jerry will take or refuse his chocolates. The protagonist of this story is Jerry Renault and the antagonist in Archie Costello. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These chocolate sales raise money for the school and give more authority to Leon. The Brother then bribes people to sell chocolates. He eventually brings disaster to the school. The major conflict in The Chocolate War is the conflict between Jerry and Archie. Archie has assigned Jerry to decline his share of chocolates to sell for ten days. Jerry carries out this assignment; but on the eleventh day he continues to decline the chocolates. Archie reminds Jerry that he is only to decline for ten days. Jerry continues to disobey. He is committing ultimate betrayal; he is intentionally ignoring the orders of The Vigils. Archie and Jerry become enemies, and they continuously quarrel. Archie finally orders a fight between Emile, a Vigil wannabe, and Jerry. One minor conflict is between Jerry and his unresolved feelings toward his mother s death. These feelings, I felt, were mainly the reason he did not take the chocolates. Jerry is looking for a change in his life; a change to get him away from thinking of his mother. Another minor conflict is between Obie and Archie. Obie feels that he is always taking blame for Archie s doings. If Archie fails then Obie takes blame. If Archie succeeds then Archie gets the credit. Obie becomes angrier with each assignment Archie gives out.

This lack of confidence and anxiety in learning math concepts has created a lack of self efficacy among math learners, which fosters a reduction in a desire to learn and use math skills. As education changes at an increasingly rapid speed not seen before, educators must bring to their students cutting edge best practices and technology to reach learning goals and build interest in needed math areas. Deficits in math proficiency are a matter of national concern (Beal, Walles, Arroyo, Woolf, 2007). Students are struggling to pass statewide subject area tests, reach suitable ACT scores, and/or enter college without enrolling in remediation classes in math. According to the American Institutes for Research, American students score well below comparable students in other countries (Phillips, 2009). Deficiencies in math scores tend to slip as students progress from one grade to the next. Machiavelli’s Views on Government Essay At first glance Machiavelli s writings could be mistaken for evil and satanic beliefs, but in reality there are many good underlying points as to how to rule a nation. I believe that the New Yorker s description of Machiavelli is the best example of his life and beliefs, because it not only touches upon the high points, but the low points of beliefs as well. The New Yorker goes into great detail about how Machiavelli came up from a mid level family to achieve a role as a government official/ ambassador just to be thrown in prison after years of trying to stabilize and unify an unstable country through means of war and fear. Machiavelli wrote that Borgia conquered many nations, but these nations had weak rulers, who had let the nations become over run with crime and filth, but once conquered by Borgia and his men were brought up to a good quality standard with less crime and more peace and order, due to the enforcement of Spanish law. That is why Machiavelli s misconceived writings were actually meant to show that even though a ruler may look bad in people s eyes, his actions actually create good within the nations he controls. A more recent example of a leader who would fit under Machiavelli s theory was Adolf Hitler. Ethos Pathos And Logos Analysis Before the building of architectural achievements such as the Roman Colosseum, the Taj Mahal, and the Windsor Castle, a Greek philosopher named Aristotle had created the three pillars of persuasive speech over 2,000 years ago. The architectural feats mentioned above had been created to last and withstand demolition from external forces such as the weather, aging, and cracking/erosion. Although it is truly unfortunate how certain groups of people were treated back then, Poole struggles to make you feel any sympathy for how the minorities were treated. Another part that made his writing hard to read or feel any emotion over were his long winded sentences. Many sentences went on longer than they should have, or could have been cut in half to make shorter sentences so the material would become easier to read. Poole s writing definitely leaned more toward the educational side than the emotional side as it seemed to read more like a textbook than his own thoughts. However, there are a few examples in his writing that if he made an effort, he could establish pathos much better. For example, Francisco de Chicora could have made for a great story to establish pathos as he was a native who was kidnapped by Spanish explorers and was forced into a different religion but was able to escape from them (179). An Analysis Of Euripides Medea The Character of Medea in Euripides Euripides presents one of the most shocking female characters in literature, through Medea, a devotee of the goddess Hecate, and one of the great sorceresses of the ancient world. She was the daughter of King Aeetes of Colchis, and the granddaughter of Helios, the sun god. King Aeetes most valuable possession was a golden ram s fleece. When Jason, the man Medea falls in love with, arrives at Colchis seeking the Golden Fleece, Aeetes sets Jason a series of seemingly impossible tasks as the price for obtaining it. Medea falls in love with Jason and agrees to use her magic to help him, in return for Jason s promise to marry her. Jason fled once he obtained the Golden Fleece, taking Medea and her younger brother, Absyrtis, with him, as King Aeetes pursued them. In order to delay the pursuit, Medea killed her brother and cut his body into pieces, scattering the parts behind the ship. This caused the pursuers to stop and collect Absyrtis dismembered body in order to give it proper burial, which thus gave Jason, Medea and the Argonauts the time to escape. On Jason s safe return to his home in Iolcus, Medea continued to use her sorcery. It can also make you feel wrong, wrong for thinking the way you do or believing what you believe. Then I realized it doesn t matter what people think of me, that felt amazing to finally understand. It involves a shift in the way folks think about their real estate investment, a movement towards being more dispassionate, a movement away from qualitative and being more focused on the quantitative. Folks historically look at property differently than they do other investments. They look at their rental properties with the same viewpoint that they look at their home, with some pride of possession. You would not look on your technology stock with pride of possession, unless maybe it was Apple stock and you used to be a Macophile. • 34. Will Low Interest Rates Eventually Boost Corporate Risk... Will Low Interest Rates Eventually Boost Corporate Risk Taking? The intellectual foundation for cutting central bank policy rates to near zero is based on the traditional view that a lower cost of debt funding will boost aggregate demand via an increase in capital spending as well as higher borrowing by the private sector. The credibility of this viewpoint has, however, been increasingly questioned over time, particularly in the wake of Japan s prolonged experience with ultra low interest rates and its ensuing failure to encourage the growth of private sector leverage. Nominal interest rates remain very low in advanced economies, but there is considerable variation on inflation adjusted measures on a cross border basis. Real interest rates remain high in Japan due to deflationary expectations, despite the fact that prices have ceased falling. It was the persistence of deflationary psychology and high real interest rates that consequently produced a prolonged corporate balance sheet recession, where the main objective was to pay down debt. Risk taking endeavours, such as capital spending, were, therefore, off limits during this period. Despite having much healthier balance sheets, Corporate Japan continues to sit on a mountain of cash, equivalent to 48% of GDP. Meanwhile, US companies also continue to operate with high levels of liquidity. The willingness to use leverage during the current cycle has, however, been somewhat higher in the US vis à vis Japan. • 36. Harland Sanders Oh yes the past can hurt, but you can either learn from it or learn from it. Rhafika The quote is pretty much saying that you should learn from the past and make better choices because of your past. This quote is appealing to social life because everyone lives by this quote without even knowing. This source shows examples of this quote and how people learned because of their hardships. Robert Downey Jr. thrived and learned from the past in many ways. Although he is thriving now, his early life was not so good but he found a way to pull through. In Britannica s Biography she states that Robert Downey Jr. dropped out of highschool pursuing an actor career and progressed very slowly(Dow 1). At first, success was slow, but his success slowly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For half of Sanders life, he was not known and not popular but that changed drastically. According to Hutchingson s biography he states, Reduced to living on social security payments, Sanders took to the road franchising his fried chicken recipe(Har 1). Sanders success came very slowly. The fact that he was poor and is now the founder of a very popular chain restaurant shows that he succeeded even though he had a lot of troubles. Although Sanders had a recipe, he couldn t really do much with it, but it will soon make him wealthy. In Britannica s biographies she states, After selling his restaurant, Sanders took to the road armed with his recipe but signed up only five restaurants in two years. By 1964, however, there were more than 600 franchises in the U.S and Canada and Sanders was making $300,000 a year(Har 1). Seeing how Sanders only signed up five restaurants in two years shows that he was not really that successful with his recipe. He did infact overcome this because later down the road he was signed up to 600 different franchises and started making money. Although Sanders is as popular and successful as he is know, he never got handed anything, he succeeded all on his own. Another passage from Hutchingson s biography states, Sanders founded the Kentucky fried chicken(KFC) franchise in 1956, at the age of 65, using his monthly $105 dollar social security check(Har 1). Sanders failure of jobs and lack of money would be something most people can t overcome. Sanders only made 105 dollars a month at the age of 65 and still found a way to become rich. This shows that he learned from the past and changed yet his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Sigmund Freud s Civilization And Its Discontents Sigmund Freud, in his book Civilization and Its Discontents, contests that humans are subject to savage, animalistic instincts. He opposes the Marxist value that humans are superior to their animal counterparts, rather, he holds, humans are quite like wolves to each other. With this claim, he explores how internal compositions work in the grand scheme, to create a working mechanism of society that tames and creates internal negotiations of behaviour and instinct. (also include what comes of the last question) Freud, a psychologist, had views that were at odds with Marxist values, derived from a philosopher and economist. Their views on what drives human nature are fundamentally different. Freud adhered to the belief that humans are enslaved by their instinctive forces. This is to say that humans are driven to seek out pleasure. Marx, on the other hand, believed that humans are motivated by their place in society through labour. His core value was the division of labor, and how it structures society. Freud understood man in a Darwinian sense, that man comes from natural selection, in the sense that Darwin insisted on its [homo sapiens] kinship with lesser cousins and observed that the stamp of [its] lowly origin was quite ineffaceable (12). This contrasts with the Marxist assumption that humans are different from animals, the belief in human exceptionalism. Under this presumption, Marx finds that abuse and violence occurs in consequence to disproportionate distributions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Benefits Of A Good Samaritan Hospital Essay Since 2008, Medicare has tracked readmissions for various conditions. According to a recent Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services review, at least 20% of hospitals in Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island have higher rates of readmission than the national average (Rau, 2014). MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital is a 287 bed, short term acute care hospital located in Baltimore, Maryland. Founded in 1968 via a donation from a philanthropist, it has approximately 2,000 employees. Good Samaritan has no accreditations but is designated to be a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission ( Healthgrades, 2015). At first glance, it is somewhat surprising that they would have a higher than average readmission rate for stroke patients, however, considering the Stroke Center designation, one must take into consideration that they are seeing a higher than average number of stroke patients. While the national goal for stroke related deaths is 34.8 out of 100,000 admissions, MedStar currently has 48.1 deaths associated with stroke related admissions. This less than desirable performance creates both financial and clinical implications. MedStar strives to always put the patient first. Its mission and vision clearly state this to be a priority, while one of the values that it subscribes to is open and honest communication ( MedStar, 2015). While all hospitals usually state some form of this, MedStar provides details on patient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Scarlette O Hara Charater Analysis SCARLETT O HARAAnalysis Essay 02/13/12 SCARLETT O HARA Scarlett O Hara is a woman who does what it takes to survive no matter what the case may be. In the book Gone with the Wind, Scarlett O Hara plays a role of what most people might think is crazy. This upper class southern belle living in the country side of Atlanta, Georgia just before the Civil War takes place. She embarks on an adventure of turmoil, death, and deceitfulness. In this era of time during the Civil War Scarlett did not care for it, in fact she pitied the fool to do such a act as war. Scarlett went from this simple, but yet complicated teenager to an extremely deep and dark woman of desperate needs. Scarlett possesses a remarkable talent for leadership, optimism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scarlett repeats variation of this line several times over the course of the novel when hardships plague her. She knows that she often acts immorally and that she faces absurdly difficult circumstances, and to avoid feelings of guilt and helplessness she simply avoids reflecting on her life. Scarlett knows eventually she should mull over her plight, but she always puts it off until another, different day, which never truly comes. But this refusal to reflect is crucial to Scarlett s survival. Her attitude contrasts directly with Ashley s obsession with the past and inability to let go of nostalgia and adapt to new times. Scarlett s determination tomorrow is another day indicates her fundamental optimism about the future. Because Scarlett represents the South, her optimism indicates Mitchell s general optimism about the South s ability to survive the face of change. An America soon to be upended by revolutions in attitudes toward race, gender and sexual morals (Keller, 2009). Scarlett manages to overcome adversity through brute strength of will. She emerges as a feminist heroine because she relies on herself alone and survives the Civil War and reconstruction unaided. She rebuilds Tara after the Yankee invasion and works her way up in the new political order, taking care of helpless family members and friends along the way. Scarlett gave birth to Melanie Hamilton s baby alone and while invasion of the Yankees thru Atlanta was happening. Overcoming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. College Benefits In College When I was in school, my mother stressed education. I am so glad she did. I graduated from Yale College and Yale University with my master s and I didn t do it by missing school (Angela Bassett). Everyone has their own experience in college whether good or bad. School is home to me, ever since Middle school after I finally grasped the art of studying. In high school I thought attending either a two year or four year college consisted of me working hard to achieve a degree that would in turn help me land a job. Not only would I walk away with a degree to help me out when it came down to looking for a job, but the useful and successful skills would also come in handy. But, in my freshman year really open my eyes to see that college is so much bigger than what I originally thought. Earning an education enables us to succeed academically, make better career choices and build self confidence In addition, not only does attending college get you one step closer to being qualified for a career of your dreams, but college also allows you to have fun while you work hard. • 41. America s Role In The Civil War Throughout history wars have decided the fate of nations, and have come to define them for decades afterwards. The United States has been involved in several wars throughout its relatively short history. Some might say that the Revolutionary War is what defined this country, and they are, for the most part, correct. However, the war that truly defined our country was the Civil War fought in the U.S from 1861 1865. Of the hundreds of Civil War battles fought two stand out above the rest. One such battle was fought in the northern region of the of the United States, known at the time as the Union. That battle was the Battle of Gettysburg. The other battle was fought in the south, which was known at that time as the Confederacy, and is called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first of many factors is Robert E. Mr Ferdinand Porsche Dbq This historical investigation is focused on two areas, firstly to what extent and impact did the great Nazi engineer Ferdinand Porsche had on Germany s effort to gain power throughout history. A critical analysis of the actions of Ferdinand Porsche and the Porsche company during the rise and fall of the Nazi empire during 1933 to 1945 in Germany and Europe will be looked at. Secondly, to what extent was Porsche s products engineering to blame for this fall. However the German economy had already bled out and could not survive even though they had the brilliance of Ferdinand Porsche and his engineering on their side. As a result of this a different viewpoint is achieved, whilst assisting Germany and the Nazis he also helped assist the UUSR with weapons. Though this source does not have a reliable stem and does not seem to be backed by any other grounded proof. Source D also bring in another aspect. That is that Ferdinand Porsche was at a small extent to blame for the fall of this regime. The evidence is there and should not be neglected. The argument put forth is one that the calibre of Mr Ferdinand Porsche s weapons were far inferior to that of the allies and were not advanced enough. Due to this fault the German regime was deteriorating as they could not fend of their competitors. However these viewpoints are weak and are simply not logical. A man of calibre such as Mr Ferdinand Porsche would not have aided the USSR with weaponry, simply due to his personal relationship to Adolf Hitler and his strong connection to Nazism. But indeed the third aspect mentioned should definitely be taken into account. That is that the caliber and capacity of his weapons were inferior to that of the Western allies which intern puts a minute extent of the blame of the Nazi empire on Mr ...
