Sonnet Billy Collins
For today s analysis, I chose the poem Sonnet by Billy Collins. The author begins by stating all we
need is fourteen lines causing the reader to believe the poem is, in fact, a sonnet ( Sonnet 1). After
reading through, however, the conclusion can be made that the author does not follow many of the
various rules associated with writing a sonnet. For instance, the rhyme scheme of this poem is not that
of a sonnet at all. Normally, a Petrarchan sonnet would follow an a b b a, a b b a, and so on; however,
the author instead strays from the expected and has very little, if any, rhyming throughout the entire
piece. The only time any rhyme is seen is for the few slant rhymes the author includes and even those
do not contribute to making it a true sonnet. Another missing aspect of sonnet writing is iambic
pentameter. All of the lines, except the last, do not meet the guidelines of ten syllables, but why? Since
this is the ending of the poem and the speaker mentions to blowout the candle maybe they are giving

third to fifth of children ages three to seventeen are affected by mental illness. That means six to ten

As people gain new experiences different losses of innocence come along with that, this is shown in
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. Throughout the book innocence plays a big role in the characterization
of Frankenstein, the monster and most of the other characters in the book. But, as tragedies in the book
occur they also symbolize losses of innocence in both the monster and Frankenstein. As these losses of
innocence occur the reader begins to realize that each of them also seems to symbolize another loss of
innocence but one that is just under the surface of literal meanings. One of the common double losses
of innocence is all of the deaths that occur in the book. While examining the characterization and the
deaths of Elizabeth and Justine, the reader comes to realize that all of those deaths symbolize the loss
of innocence. Through these deaths, it is shown that Frankenstein and the monster continued to lose
their innocence until it is nonexistent. All throughout Justine s imprisonment and death, Shelley plays
with the idea of innocence versus guilt. When William is killed Justine who is portrayed as an
innocent bystander is convicted of the crime. When she is arrested everyone is confused because no

The Federal Funds Rate is arguably the most important interest rate in the world as it sets the tone in
the market. This is the overnight interest rate used when banks borrow money from other banks or
from the Federal Reserve. (Miller, 2016) If they do not have enough on hand to lend out, the Federal
Reserve would be a place where banks can borrow money overnight. The rate is a tool used by the Fed
to control the supply of available money therefore controlling inflation and other interest rates. (Fed
