The president is not only the leader of the party, he is the President of the whole people. He must

economic effects as well as cultural effects. Herbert Hoover altered humanity in a positive way

First American Catholic Church History
PHOTOS @ Lake Arthur Methodist 1 3 LAKE ARTHUR Since 1890, the First United Methodist
Church has provided a spiritual home for Lake Arthur area residents. The white, wood framed
structure with its stained glass windows and steeple has been a place where those of all ages have been
welcomed for more than 12 decades, gathering to meet and worship. Today, the church is observing its
125 years of existence with a special worship service at 9 a.m. with former pastor Glynn Foreman.
The celebration also includes special music, historical information and a brunch. For 125 years, First

The church, which was established in 1980 and built in the spring of 1891, was founded by Dr. James

Gibson had a dream, Hymel wrote in her history. He labored to make it real. Other ministers and lay
people since his day have also worked to further and to expand his vision. By God s guidance and in
Christian love, the physical structure and the spiritual entity of the First United Methodist Church of
Lake Arthur still stands today. The lumber to build the church was bought at Jenke s Mill, located
farther north on the Mermentau River. It was rafted and floated down the river to Lake Arthur. The

Controversies Surrounding Classification of Disorders Essay
Controversies Surrounding Classification
Theories of Psychopathology

Abstract
The DSM is used as a standard of reference for psychological diagnosis. The DSM was originally
published in 1952 containing only 106 diagnoses; today the revised DSM IV TR contains 365
diagnoses. Throughout the history of the DSM, individuals in the mental health profession have relied
on it for clarification of disorders, facilitating research, improving communication with other
professionals and improving the collection of clinical information. With a new DSM V underway,
there has been a lot of issues surrounding the contents and classifications of the new DSM. There are
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As time changes, the DSM has changed to fit society s needs as well as acceptance.
The first major controversy concerning classifications of mental disorders is the debate over
dimensions vs. categories. According to the APA (2000), DSM IV is a categorical classification that
divides mental disorders into types based on criterion sets with defining features. Categories have
been utilized in the past DSMs, however there has been much debate on changing to the dimensional
model. The debate stems from the notion that in order for a categorical diagnosis to relate specifically
to a disorder, the pathology would have to have been largely resilient to the influence of many other
genetic and environmental influences (Widiger Sankis, 2000). On the contrast, utilizing the
dimensional model for a diagnosis would utilize a wide variety of neurochemical, interpersonal,
cognitive, and other mediating and moderating variables that help to develop, shape, and form a
particular individual s psychopathology profile (Andreasen, 1997). The second major issue related to
classifications of mental disorders is the classification of the disorder vs. the classification of the
individual. When speaking about the classification of an individual, it stigmatizes the individual.

One mascot is a real horse named Thunder. (Explained by Thunder {mascot}) He is one of the three
purebred Arabians who have served as the Denver Broncos mascot since 1993. Thunder has appeared
in two Super Bowls and Thunder III appeared in two different Super Bowls. The Thunders were all
owned by Sharon Magness Blake. All three horses were gray, but as they grew older, their hair turned
more white. Thunders jobs are to lead the team out with Miles, the person in the horse suit, and every
time the Broncos score a field goal or touchdown, he trouts the length of the field. In 2004 Thunder Sr.

Summary Of Captain Arsham s Diary
Mars, 2076 Captain Abersham drew her sidearm slowly out of its holster. Her feet waltzed calmly into
the brig, her fancy leather boots guiding the way. She took off her captain s hat and gave it to the
soldier guarding the entrance to the brig. Six men sat in a line on their knees. Their heads were
covered with black bags, and their hands tied up behind their backs . Several guards removed the bags
all at once, revealing the prisoners faces. Gentlemen, Abersham began, in her southern English
cadence, pacing back and forth in front of them. Some of the prisoners looked around for a way out,
whilst the more experienced among them looked straight ahead. Here I have a pistol. A classic
revolver. An antique, Abersham continued, admiring the gun, with one arm behind her back in a
formal manner. She gently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of gunfire that murmured in the background. One by one, I will point this gun at your heads. One by
one, I will pull the trigger. All you have to do to stop me, is tell me the location of your nuclear
devices. None of the prisoners spoke. Abersham continued pacing in front of them, looking each in the
eye. She was a hard looking woman. Grey hair since her thirties. Abersham was someone who,
inexplicably, always looked cold. Freezing, but not daring to admit it. She stopped her portentous
pacing at the crying prisoner: the one on the far left. I think we ll start with you, she said, standing

The Cultural Differences Of Culture In Israel, Israel And...
The word culture derives from a French term, which in turn derives from the Latin colere, which
means to tend to the earth and grow, or cultivation and nurture. (Zimmerman 1) This can also lead to
one concluding that culture changes as civilization is changed and advancements occur. I am culturally
Arab. Specifically from around Jerusalem and many other farmer civilations. The cuisine, historical
significance of the area, and it s religions are some of the most distinct differences the region has
culturally.
One sizable distinction for people from Palestine/Israel is their diet compared to surrounding areas.
The area surrounding them is mainly desert while they live in a fertile area between the Jordan river
and Mediterranean Ocean. This resulted in the area becoming less nomadic and more people settled to
farm. Olives, citrus fruits, dates, chickpeas, almonds, and plums are some of the many varieties of
produce grown in the region. (Butterfield, et al: 1) This is why the region s food culture is different
from its neighbors. From this region, hummus, olive oil, bread, dates, and nuts are staples and are
often supplemented by whatever produce are in season. Growing up and eating these foods since I was
I child, what people viewed as exotic foods in many places of the world was a normal commodity for
me. Things like dried apricot puree and dates for snack at school and a thyme mixture named Zatar
with olive oil and bread for lunch confused students who were so used to

Male Characters In Federico Garcia Lorca s Blood Wedding
Federico Garcia Lorca, a playwright known for his strong connection to leftist views, masterfully
reflects the events and characters in his play Blood Wedding, to the tensions leading to the Spanish
Civil War. With this intention/Henceforth, the two main male characters, Bridegroom and Leonardo,
represent the two major political parties of Spain in the 1920 s and 30 s, Nationalists and Republicans.
In this essay, parallels will be drawn to connect how Lorca symbolizes the tensions leading up to the
Spanish Civil War, in his play Blood Wedding.
In the 1920 s and 30 s, Spain was under a lot of political strain and tensions, which would eventually
lead to the Spanish Civil War. There was a major political divide between the Republicans and
Nationalists. Nationalists, the right wing government, had a major supporter base consisting of:
landowners, military leaders, and the Roman Catholic Church. On the other hand, Republicans who
were the polar opposite, being the left wing administration, had supporter base consisting of: urban
workers, agricultural labourers, communists, and the educated middle class. The Republican aim was
to create a modern democracy by limiting the power of the army and the Roman Catholic Church and
empowering trade unions and owners. Conversely, Nationalists had a more conservative aim which
was to protect those who were powerful and wealthy, keep Catholicism the predominant religion in
Spain, and creating a powerful army. With this in mind, it is quite

The Pros And Cons Of The New Deal
The New Deal allowed the government to create new programs that either provided relief or recovery,
or were a reform for the problems during that time. In the time of an economic crisis, the government
should get involved and provide a safety net for Americans. Government involvement is necessary to
work towards a resolution, but too much involvement will put too much power in the Government s
hands, which could lead to a government type we do not want in America. During economic busts, the
government should use the programs that are currently in place to provide a safety net and support
Americans. However, during economic booms Americans should provide for themselves and not be
reliant on the government to provide for them.
One of the reforms created through the New Deal that still exists today is Social Security. Social
Security was established through the Social Security Act of 1935 by Franklin D. Roosevelt. It
established a national pension fund, a public assistance program for dependent mothers and disabled
people, an unemployment insurance system, as well as benefits for victims of industrial accidents
(Social Security Act of 1935). Social Security is very beneficial regarding its ability to help those who
need it, but it is also the largest federal program today, resulting in huge expenses. CNS News
published an article regarding the spending of the Social Security Administration, and stated in the

Disadvantages Of Guha
Guha, in Adivasis, Naxalites and Democracy asserts that Adivasis in India have been deprived to a
large extent despite living in the democratic state of India. He argues that Adivasis have lost more than
they have gained in the last six decades and compares their progress to other Indian minorities such as
Dalits and Muslims, which ultimately reveals that the Adivasis have not been unable to articulate their
grievances through the democratic and electoral processes, unlike the other minorities. Guha then
examines the uprising of Maoist revolutions and the rise of the Naxalite influence, which have been
caused by failures of the state and of the formal political system. There are two broad reasons which
Guha provides for the growing deprivation of the Adivasis. The first tragedy is that the state itself has
treated the Adivasis with disrespect and condensation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He makes comparisons between Dalit and Muslim leaders who have in the last six decades acquired
substantial roles in the political milieu of India. Why hasn t there been representation from the
Adivasis? Guha believes that Adivasis do not have majority in any single peninsular state of India,
therefore during elections, tribal votes do not make an impact as compared to Dalit votes. Guha also
observes that the Dalits have had influential leaders (such as B.R Ambedkar) who have streamlined
their marginalization, unlike Adivasis, who have never had a leader who could inspire admiration.
Another important point highlighted is the role of contemporary media in projecting mainly Dalit and
Muslim issues and not those concerning Adivasis. Therefore due to the negligence of the government,
Maoists tend to influence the tribals into believing their socio economic advancement agenda,
according to Guha does not exist as the Maoists main agenda is to capture power through armed

The Labor Market
Introduction The landscape of the labor market is a critical factor in the economic comparison of
different countries. Countries with a friendly job market are economically stronger because such an
economy is able to achieve high living standards for its citizens. This paper therefore endeavors to
explore some of the trends in the labor market in the US, EU, Japan and China Unemployment Rates
As per August 2016 the unemployment rate was reported to be at 4.9% percent by the Bureau of Labor
Statistics and this is the first time the unemployment rate fell below 5% since 2008. However, despite
the fall in unemployment rates it is worth considering that only a few of the adults are working. Only
62.7% of the adult Americans are working and this has been so since the late 1970s.n On the other
hand, the unemployment rate in the EU was rated at 10.2% in April which is the lowest rate since
2011. In the EU, Greece is by far the country with the highest unemployment rate of 23.3%
particularly due to its economic meltdown. On the other hand Malta and Germany have recorded the
lowest unemployment rates in 2016 of about 4%. In Asia, the unemployment rate in China by June
2016 was rated to be 4.05%. In the first half of 2016, 7.17 million jobs were created in the majority of
the Chinese urban cities therefore accounting for 71.7% of China s yearly target of 10 million jobs. In

The purpose of this experiment was to carry out an interesting, unique and uncommon project, just

Mozart Effect because it was proven to strengthen achievement on cognitive tests(EMedExpert, 1). In
this experiment, the genres of music chosen did not include classical music of any type. From recent

How For Participation Can Impact Issues Of Self Esteem,...
According to the website, http://www.merriam webster.com, a trophy is an object (such as a large cup
or sculpture) that is given as a prize for winning a competition. By definition, a trophy should be given
to an individual who is triumphant in a match. However, in today s culture, children are receiving
awards for simply participating in a sport or activity. By allowing this to happen, it raises the question
if it is good or bad for children to receive trophies for not succeeding. Through different articles and
analyses on this issue, I will explain how giving trophies for participation can impact issues of self
esteem, self efficacy and foreshadow children s outcomes.
There are many different aspects of self, such as self concept, self esteem, and self efficacy that may
be hard for an individual to differentiate. According to the textbook, Life Span Human Development,
7th edition, by Carol Sigelman, on page 348, self concept is your perceptions, positive or negative, of
your unique attributes and traits as a person. Self concept generally focuses on who one is as an
individual. An example of this would be a person believing that they are the most beautiful person in
the world, even though others may not have the same opinion. Self esteem differs from self concept
for the reason that self esteem focus on how good the person is in a situation, or in an activity.

There is much more of an emphasis on training and certification of auditors to understand and be able

These changes in accounting processes are just the beginning of the much broader and much more
pervasive changes at the fundamental business level within companies. The changes required by SOX
also force entirely new approaches to managing, reporting, sorting, and accessing financial
information, often requiring new IT systems and processes as well. The coordination of IT systems

happening at the same time in many publicly held companies in the U.S. through even 2009. The

American publicly held companies do not have the people or the expertise to get their processes,

Home Is More Than Two Walls And A Roof
What is Home? What is home? Some people may consider home to be at their parents house, or their
own house. It can also be a place you really like or somewhere you spend a lot of time at. You may
call a lot of places home and still feel at home there. Also, you should never forget where you came
from and what home means to you. Home is where I was raised. Where I played, laughed, and
learned. It is where I grew up at, and where I became me. I believe that home is more than four walls
and a roof. Home is an environment. It s a feeling that I get when I walk through the front door. Home
is where I became myself, not primarily physically but mentally too. It became a mold that formed
who I am today. Home is my childhood, and my memories it means family and friends, and all the
times we spent together. My best friend name is Lydia, and we have been friends since Kindergarten.
We first met in Kindergarten; it was the first day of kindergarten at Pineville Elementary. I remember
getting off the bus at the school, and my teacher Mrs. Potee was there to meet us. After, she had
everyone that was in her class off the bus we went to the classroom. When I first walked in the
classroom is was full of colorful posters with learning material on them, cubbies with our names on
them, and the table had our names on it too. At the table where I was sitting I didn t know I was going
to meet my best friend. Throughout the years at Pineville Elementary we became very close. We

Curriculum Of The Other Woman
As Luce Irigaray identifies, in her book Speculum of the Other Woman, Antigone is caught in a
puzzling paradox of both intentionally committing her crime with full knowledge of her act, while at
the same time remaining completely ignorant and unconscious of the law. She says, what an amazing
vicious circle in a single syllogistic system. Whereby the unconscious while remaining unconscious, is
yet supposed to know the laws of a consciousness which is permitted to remain ignorant of it and will
become even more repressed as a result of failing to respect those laws (223). For Hegel, women do
not have the ability to conceptualize ethical duty due to their inescapable nature. How is it that
Antigone is guilty by virtue of her intentional crime, while remaining ignorant by virtue of her
unconsciousness of the law? Kelly Oliver, in her article Antigone s Ghost, suggests that one can
speculate if it is at this stage of the dialectic where women become conscious, however, she rightly
indicates that this is an impossible scenario because unlike men, women are unable to break free from
nature (Oliver, 79). The feminine is bound to the family and remains unconscious to her acts as
ethical.
Because women are restrained by nature to the divine law, the only type of knowledge women can
have of committing a crime and the guilt associated with a crime is intuitive knowledge. At this point
of the phenomenology (and arguably at no point in the phenomenology), women do not have a

Dream Interpretation For Feet
Dream Interpretation for Feet When I think about feet what comes to my mind is be where you re feet
are. Feet are necessary in order for humans to be able to stand, walk, run, or do any type of physical
activity. Think about what are feet are able to withstand every day; they sure are powerful. If you look
up the dream meaning you could find some of the following interpretations: 1. Being grounded, stable,
and independence. 2. Time to move forward. 3. Stuck in an area of your life. 4. Bare feet means you
will experience impoverishment. 5. Feet being washed is doing service work. 6. Despair when it s
your own feet (giggle). 7. Injured feet is symbolic for being sinful (LOL). Out of all those dream
meanings the first three interpretation make

What Is The Theme Of Rashomon
A 1950 japanese period drama film, Rashomon gives an insight to human motives and how as
humans lie as per their convenience. Directed by akira kurosawa the movie is based on two stories

The film opens with a thunderstorm with a woodcutter and a priest taking shelter under the
citygate named rashomon. A common man enters the scene to whom they narrate a disturbing
story of a murder which took place three days ago in the woods. The film goes in a flashback

The wife of the samurai when found seeking shelter in a temple is summoned in the court. Her

she couldnt face her husband. She kept telling him not to look at her in that manner which made

Output hardware is components of or devices linked to a computer, which allow the computer to
transfer information to another computer system or the user of a computer system (Kroenke pg74).
This output hardware sends information in the form of images, sound, or various other tangible
imagery usually, to some form of input hardware on another system. It is not designed to receive data
only to send. The most familiar of these devices is the visual display or computer monitor. These
monitors are usually synonymous with a computer and every system is equipped with or able to
connect to a Visual Display Unit. Projectors, audio systems, printers, and faxes are all examples of
output hardware. Microsoft Corporation in their endeavors to enhance everyone s life with the aid of
computing software has developed output hardware for the blind or visually challenged. Windows also
offers a function such as video narrator, that provides audio descriptions of videos
(http://Windows.Microsoft.com). In addition to these components windows is compatible with
numerous other programs and hardware components that are designed to enhance the lives of those
who are blind or visually impaired. More recently Microsoft has also included Braille output devises
and other hardware components in their product lines. For a quick reference for Operating Systems

The Americans suspended operations in the fall of 1942, leaving the
NHL with just six teams. Despite various efforts to initiate expansion after the war, including
attempted restarts of the Maroons and Americans franchises, the league s membership would remain at
six teams for the next twenty five seasons.
By the 1960s, however, it was becoming obvious that if the NHL did not expand, a rival league would
take its place. In the
United States the American Football League was starting to become very successful at the time,
convincing many people that a rival hockey league would also succeed. In particular, the Western
Hockey League had moved into a number of major Pacific Coast markets, and had accumulated strong
rosters with talent barred from the static rosters of the NHL. This, plus the prospect of television
contracts, convinced the six owners to go ahead with expansion.
All of the Original Six franchises still exist, with no major identity changes and no

My Journey To Achieve The American Dream
At the age of three, I moved to El Salvador with my mom and siblings. Many people remember going
to Disney or traveling with their parents as children but I remember earthquakes, gunshots, and
poverty. My family and I lived in constant fear for our safety. There were also some cheerful
memories like being a baton twirler in the Independence Day parades. I will never forget going to the
beach on holidays and spending lots of summers picking coffee beans in my grandfather s field. At the
age of 8, we moved back to the United States in hope for a better life and in search to achieve the
American dream. I am now 20 years old and a college student. I would have never imagined myself
saying that out loud. I would not be here if it weren t for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through volunteer work in and out of school, I have acquired a lot of knowledge about myself and
others. At Montgomery college, I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the volunteer club, and the Early
Childhood Education club. One of my biggest accomplishments has been through some volunteer
work outside of school. I had the privilege of giving a speech at the 2016 Race4Respect Down
syndrome awareness race. I was proud of myself for this particular accomplishment because I was
given the opportunity to share how my experience with the Special Olympics Joy Cheerleading team
not only inspired my future career path but also helped me view the world in a whole new perspective.
I have always wanted to advocate for others in hope that one day I would make a change and this
opportunity allowed me to make a change in my life and in the lives of others. My passion since that
day has been to become a teacher that supports and impacts students beyond the classroom whether
they have a disability or not. As for my future plans, I hope to attend the University of Maryland in the
fall and continue my studies in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. In the next two
years, I plan to earn my bachelor s degree in teaching and hopefully become a kindergarten teacher.
The pressure to be my best has always been self imposed. I hold myself to high standards and expect
nothing but the best from myself as I

Thomas Aquinas s Argument That God Is One
In Summa Theologiae, part I, question 11, article 3, Thomas Aquinas argues that God is one. In order
to support his argument that God is one , Aquinas gives three different proofs. The first proof is based
on God s simplicity, the second proof is based on God s perfection, and the third proof is based on the
unity of the world. In this essay, I will analyze Aquinas s argument in which he explains that God is
one based on his three proofs. I will discuss each of Aquinas s proofs and determine their
effectiveness. To begin his argument, Aquinas states that it can be shown from three sources that God
is one. The claim God is one means that there can only be one God because God is simple, perfect,
and unique. The first proof which demonstrates God is one is based on His simplicity. The simplicity
of God refers to the fact that he is not made of parts. There is no way to break him down into
categories because he is not composed or divisible by any physical or metaphysical means (Section).
Aquinas uses Socrates as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All things that exist are ordered in some way. Many things are reduced into one order by one which is
better than being reduced by many. Being reduced by one creates a more meaningful and specific
ordering (Section). The best way to categorize is to appeal to a single standard. This single standard
being God, God is the one thing anything can be compared to because he is perfect. Therefore, there is
a single ordering of all things that exist. The unity of that ordering must be because of a single cause
of that order, which is God. The unity of that ordering must be from a single cause because multiple
causes would produce a unity of ordering only by accident. Aquinas defends that the thing which
reduces all into one order should only be one because this thing is most perfect. God is the one that
provides the ordering of all things, therefore God is

Friedel-Crafts Acylation Lab Report
The Friedel Crafts acylation reaction is an important and valuable electrophilic aromatic substitution
reaction. First introduced in 1912 by Charles Friedel and James M. Crafts, this reaction allows large
multi step reactions to take place, and creates numerous types of products.1 Today, Friedel Crafts
reactions are among the most used electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions. In the electrophilic
aromatic substitution class of reactions, functional groups are substituted onto an aromatic ring.2
Products such as ketones, hydrocarbons and phenols, phenol ethers, and keto acids can be produced by
electrophilic aromatic substitution.1 These products can then undergo other reactions, allowing for the
creation of many types of products. The products acquired can be used for a range of purposes, such as
pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, etcetera.3 In particular, Friedel Crafts acylation reactions result in a
product containing a ketone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The functional group added during a Friedel Crafts acylation reaction, deactivates the ring, resulting in
a mono substituted ring rather that a poly substituted ring, which is produced from a Friedel Crafts
alkylation reaction.4 The mono substituted product is then further reduced to get an alkyl substituted
ring instead of yielding a product containing a ketone. To obtain the ketone product, an acyl group is
added to an aromatic ring. However, for this reaction to take place, no electron withdrawing groups
can be present on the aromatic ring, and an acyl halide must be used to obtain the acyl cation.5 These
limitations are met, in the Friedel Crafts acylation reaction of anisole with acetyl

How Does Shakespeare Use Deception In Othello
Othello is a play about suffering; every character in the play has some cruel compounce: not a single
being in the play escapes their harsh fate. Fate is the driving force of Othello, This is shown through
the ease of deception by Iago, the various religious influences spread throughout. as well as the meta
analysis present in most of shakespeare s plays. Deception is used throughout the play by Iago,
however it is not the driving force as said by Alyssa Brown. Othello has the fairly typical theme of
deception. Self deception is also a theme (Alyssa Brown, Brown/A/Deception). Deception does not
exist in the play. The characters have no freewill and cannot be deceived. This play uses deception
wrong according to Shakespeare. Usually, Shakespeare uses deception to a positive end of the players.
When used in tragedies, Romeo and Juliet use deception to further their love, although it does
ultimately end with their deaths, it ends with the Montague and Capulet families coming together.
Shakespeare uses deception to a positive end. Othello does not. Out of the six main characters, four
are dead and the other two are maimed and fated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Asylum Seeker Rights
The process, effectiveness and limitations of the human rights system in protecting asylum seeker
rights.
It is widely accepted that Governments are primarily responsible for guaranteeing the basic human
rights of their citizens, however when a person becomes an asylum seeker they lose this State based
support and protection often it may not have been there in the first place. Without the assistance of
other States this vulnerable group of individuals can be open to persecution and violations of their
rights at home and abroad (UNHCR, 2015, np). Whilst providing a solutions based focus for the rights

My Mom Research Paper
Heroes come in many shapes and sizes, like the iconic heroes we see on the big screen, for example,
Batman and Superman, or normal everyday heroes, like a doctor or a firefighter. But I think that the
biggest hero is the one that is closest to me, and that is my Mom. Everyday, I admire and look up to
her, and others should too.
My Mom teaches heroic life lessons that you and I should admire her for. A time this happened is
when I first realized my Mom was my hero at the age of 5. We had just moved into a small town
called Livingston, from New York City. So, naturally, I was very nervous that I would have no friends
and was refusing to go to the first day of Kindergarten. I decided that I wouldn t move at all. But my
Mom promised me I would have a good time, comforted me, and with a kiss, picked me up and
carried me into the car, all while saying that my education is the most important thing in the world.
That day, she stayed with me in school for the whole day. Even though at that time, I thought ... Show

when I was younger, her work schedule always confused me. She was never there anymore to play, or
do arts and crafts with, or help me with my homework. Because of this, I started to do everything with
my Dad. But as I got older, I finally understood that she was working as hard as possible to make
money for our family, to let me have a good life. She was trying to make sure I could have food,
clothes, and shelter, and that is heroic. And because of that, I always admire her, and if she was your

Multitasking Can You Analysis
Multitasking is not what everyone thinks it means. The ability for one to multitask has been sought
after by employers and college professors for decades. The narrative that the brain can actually
perform more than one task at a time effectively is unfounded. In Alina Tugend s Multitasking Can
Make You Lose... Um... Focus and Verna von Pfetten s Read This Story Without Distraction (Can
You?), both authors in fact describe the limitations of the human mind can actually prevent one from
effectively multitasking thus showing that monotasking, only performing a singular task at a time, is
the future of time management. Due to limitations of the human mind and its cognitive processes,
multitasking should be formally called task switching (Pfetten ... Show more content on

The RAC Foundation, a British nonprofit that focuses on driving issues recently asked drivers to use a
driving simulator to see how texting while driving affected them. Although doing many things at the
same time...can be a way to make tasks more fun and energizing , one must keep in mind that you
sacrifice focus when you do this (Tugend B2). The study showed that reaction times dropped by as
much as 35%, far more than while driving drunk or stoned. Those statistics show that multitasking, or
attempting to perform two tasks that require large amounts of concentration, can actually prove
fatal(Tugend B3). Verna von Pfetten s opinion of multitasking follows along the same lines as Tugend
s whereas she describes how multitasking actually causes one to feel tired at the end of the day
(Pfetten A3).
While both authors agree that multitasking is unhealthy and rather impossible to do efficiently, they
have different opinions on how one might go about remedying the situation. Monotasking, also
referred to as single tasking or unitasking, isn t just about getting things done (Pfetten A3). It is also
something that needs to be [learned and] practiced (Pfetten

  • 4. Controversies Surrounding Classification of Disorders Essay Controversies Surrounding Classification Theories of Psychopathology HS513 T302 March 25, 2012 Abstract The DSM is used as a standard of reference for psychological diagnosis. The DSM was originally published in 1952 containing only 106 diagnoses; today the revised DSM IV TR contains 365 diagnoses. Throughout the history of the DSM, individuals in the mental health profession have relied on it for clarification of disorders, facilitating research, improving communication with other professionals and improving the collection of clinical information. With a new DSM V underway, there has been a lot of issues surrounding the contents and classifications of the new DSM. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time changes, the DSM has changed to fit society s needs as well as acceptance. The first major controversy concerning classifications of mental disorders is the debate over dimensions vs. categories. According to the APA (2000), DSM IV is a categorical classification that divides mental disorders into types based on criterion sets with defining features. Categories have been utilized in the past DSMs, however there has been much debate on changing to the dimensional model. The debate stems from the notion that in order for a categorical diagnosis to relate specifically to a disorder, the pathology would have to have been largely resilient to the influence of many other genetic and environmental influences (Widiger Sankis, 2000). On the contrast, utilizing the dimensional model for a diagnosis would utilize a wide variety of neurochemical, interpersonal, cognitive, and other mediating and moderating variables that help to develop, shape, and form a particular individual s psychopathology profile (Andreasen, 1997). The second major issue related to classifications of mental disorders is the classification of the disorder vs. the classification of the individual. When speaking about the classification of an individual, it stigmatizes the individual. Instead of referring to someone as having an alcohol dependence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their heads were covered with black bags, and their hands tied up behind their backs . Several guards removed the bags all at once, revealing the prisoners faces. Gentlemen, Abersham began, in her southern English cadence, pacing back and forth in front of them. • 9. The Cultural Differences Of Culture In Israel, Israel And... The word culture derives from a French term, which in turn derives from the Latin colere, which means to tend to the earth and grow, or cultivation and nurture. (Zimmerman 1) This can also lead to one concluding that culture changes as civilization is changed and advancements occur. I am culturally Arab. Specifically from around Jerusalem and many other farmer civilations. The cuisine, historical significance of the area, and it s religions are some of the most distinct differences the region has culturally. One sizable distinction for people from Palestine/Israel is their diet compared to surrounding areas. The area surrounding them is mainly desert while they live in a fertile area between the Jordan river and Mediterranean Ocean. This resulted in the area becoming less nomadic and more people settled to farm. Olives, citrus fruits, dates, chickpeas, almonds, and plums are some of the many varieties of produce grown in the region. (Butterfield, et al: 1) This is why the region s food culture is different from its neighbors. From this region, hummus, olive oil, bread, dates, and nuts are staples and are often supplemented by whatever produce are in season. Growing up and eating these foods since I was I child, what people viewed as exotic foods in many places of the world was a normal commodity for me. With this intention/Henceforth, the two main male characters, Bridegroom and Leonardo, represent the two major political parties of Spain in the 1920 s and 30 s, Nationalists and Republicans. In this essay, parallels will be drawn to connect how Lorca symbolizes the tensions leading up to the Spanish Civil War, in his play Blood Wedding. In the 1920 s and 30 s, Spain was under a lot of political strain and tensions, which would eventually lead to the Spanish Civil War. There was a major political divide between the Republicans and Nationalists. Nationalists, the right wing government, had a major supporter base consisting of: landowners, military leaders, and the Roman Catholic Church. On the other hand, Republicans who were the polar opposite, being the left wing administration, had supporter base consisting of: urban workers, agricultural labourers, communists, and the educated middle class. The Republican aim was to create a modern democracy by limiting the power of the army and the Roman Catholic Church and empowering trade unions and owners. Conversely, Nationalists had a more conservative aim which was to protect those who were powerful and wealthy, keep Catholicism the predominant religion in Spain, and creating a powerful army. • 13. The Pros And Cons Of The New Deal The New Deal allowed the government to create new programs that either provided relief or recovery, or were a reform for the problems during that time. In the time of an economic crisis, the government should get involved and provide a safety net for Americans. Government involvement is necessary to work towards a resolution, but too much involvement will put too much power in the Government s hands, which could lead to a government type we do not want in America. During economic busts, the government should use the programs that are currently in place to provide a safety net and support Americans. However, during economic booms Americans should provide for themselves and not be reliant on the government to provide for them. One of the reforms created through the New Deal that still exists today is Social Security. Social Security was established through the Social Security Act of 1935 by Franklin D. Roosevelt. It established a national pension fund, a public assistance program for dependent mothers and disabled people, an unemployment insurance system, as well as benefits for victims of industrial accidents (Social Security Act of 1935). Social Security is very beneficial regarding its ability to help those who need it, but it is also the largest federal program today, resulting in huge expenses. Guha then examines the uprising of Maoist revolutions and the rise of the Naxalite influence, which have been caused by failures of the state and of the formal political system. There are two broad reasons which Guha provides for the growing deprivation of the Adivasis. Guha also observes that the Dalits have had influential leaders (such as B.R Ambedkar) who have streamlined their marginalization, unlike Adivasis, who have never had a leader who could inspire admiration. Another important point highlighted is the role of contemporary media in projecting mainly Dalit and Muslim issues and not those concerning Adivasis. • 19. How For Participation Can Impact Issues Of Self Esteem,... According to the website, http://www.merriam webster.com, a trophy is an object (such as a large cup or sculpture) that is given as a prize for winning a competition. By definition, a trophy should be given to an individual who is triumphant in a match. However, in today s culture, children are receiving awards for simply participating in a sport or activity. By allowing this to happen, it raises the question if it is good or bad for children to receive trophies for not succeeding. Through different articles and analyses on this issue, I will explain how giving trophies for participation can impact issues of self esteem, self efficacy and foreshadow children s outcomes. There are many different aspects of self, such as self concept, self esteem, and self efficacy that may be hard for an individual to differentiate. According to the textbook, Life Span Human Development, 7th edition, by Carol Sigelman, on page 348, self concept is your perceptions, positive or negative, of your unique attributes and traits as a person. Self concept generally focuses on who one is as an individual. An example of this would be a person believing that they are the most beautiful person in the world, even though others may not have the same opinion. Self esteem differs from self concept for the reason that self esteem focus on how good the person is in a situation, or in an activity. Also, you should never forget where you came from and what home means to you. Home is where I was raised. Where I played, laughed, and learned. It is where I grew up at, and where I became me. I believe that home is more than four walls and a roof. Home is an environment. It s a feeling that I get when I walk through the front door. Home is where I became myself, not primarily physically but mentally too. It became a mold that formed who I am today. Home is my childhood, and my memories it means family and friends, and all the times we spent together. My best friend name is Lydia, and we have been friends since Kindergarten. We first met in Kindergarten; it was the first day of kindergarten at Pineville Elementary. I remember getting off the bus at the school, and my teacher Mrs. Potee was there to meet us. After, she had everyone that was in her class off the bus we went to the classroom. When I first walked in the classroom is was full of colorful posters with learning material on them, cubbies with our names on them, and the table had our names on it too. At the table where I was sitting I didn t know I was going to meet my best friend. Throughout the years at Pineville Elementary we became very close. We would do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Curriculum Of The Other Woman As Luce Irigaray identifies, in her book Speculum of the Other Woman, Antigone is caught in a puzzling paradox of both intentionally committing her crime with full knowledge of her act, while at the same time remaining completely ignorant and unconscious of the law. She says, what an amazing vicious circle in a single syllogistic system. Whereby the unconscious while remaining unconscious, is yet supposed to know the laws of a consciousness which is permitted to remain ignorant of it and will become even more repressed as a result of failing to respect those laws (223). For Hegel, women do not have the ability to conceptualize ethical duty due to their inescapable nature. How is it that Antigone is guilty by virtue of her intentional crime, while remaining ignorant by virtue of her unconsciousness of the law? Kelly Oliver, in her article Antigone s Ghost, suggests that one can speculate if it is at this stage of the dialectic where women become conscious, however, she rightly indicates that this is an impossible scenario because unlike men, women are unable to break free from nature (Oliver, 79). The feminine is bound to the family and remains unconscious to her acts as ethical. Because women are restrained by nature to the divine law, the only type of knowledge women can have of committing a crime and the guilt associated with a crime is intuitive knowledge. At this point of the phenomenology (and arguably at no point in the phenomenology), women do not have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Output hardware is components of or devices linked to a computer, which allow the computer to transfer information to another computer system or the user of a computer system (Kroenke pg74). This output hardware sends information in the form of images, sound, or various other tangible imagery usually, to some form of input hardware on another system. It is not designed to receive data only to send. The most familiar of these devices is the visual display or computer monitor. These monitors are usually synonymous with a computer and every system is equipped with or able to connect to a Visual Display Unit. Projectors, audio systems, printers, and faxes are all examples of output hardware. Microsoft Corporation in their endeavors to enhance everyone s life with the aid of computing software has developed output hardware for the blind or visually challenged. Windows also offers a function such as video narrator, that provides audio descriptions of videos (http://Windows.Microsoft.com). In addition to these components windows is compatible with numerous other programs and hardware components that are designed to enhance the lives of those who are blind or visually impaired. By the 1960s, however, it was becoming obvious that if the NHL did not expand, a rival league would take its place. In the United States the American Football League was starting to become very successful at the time, convincing many people that a rival hockey league would also succeed. In particular, the Western Hockey League had moved into a number of major Pacific Coast markets, and had accumulated strong rosters with talent barred from the static rosters of the NHL. This, plus the prospect of television contracts, convinced the six owners to go ahead with expansion. All of the Original Six franchises still exist, with no major identity changes and no ... • 30. Thomas Aquinas s Argument That God Is One In Summa Theologiae, part I, question 11, article 3, Thomas Aquinas argues that God is one. In order to support his argument that God is one , Aquinas gives three different proofs. The first proof is based on God s simplicity, the second proof is based on God s perfection, and the third proof is based on the unity of the world. In this essay, I will analyze Aquinas s argument in which he explains that God is one based on his three proofs. I will discuss each of Aquinas s proofs and determine their effectiveness. To begin his argument, Aquinas states that it can be shown from three sources that God is one. The claim God is one means that there can only be one God because God is simple, perfect, and unique. The first proof which demonstrates God is one is based on His simplicity. The simplicity of God refers to the fact that he is not made of parts. There is no way to break him down into categories because he is not composed or divisible by any physical or metaphysical means (Section). Aquinas uses Socrates as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All things that exist are ordered in some way. Many things are reduced into one order by one which is better than being reduced by many. Being reduced by one creates a more meaningful and specific ordering (Section). The best way to categorize is to appeal to a single standard. This single standard being God, God is the one thing anything can be compared to because he is perfect. Therefore, there is a single ordering of all things that exist. The unity of that ordering must be because of a single cause of that order, which is God. The unity of that ordering must be from a single cause because multiple causes would produce a unity of ordering only by accident. Aquinas defends that the thing which reduces all into one order should only be one because this thing is most perfect. God is the one that provides the ordering of all things, therefore God is ... • 31. Friedel-Crafts Acylation Lab Report The Friedel Crafts acylation reaction is an important and valuable electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction. First introduced in 1912 by Charles Friedel and James M. Crafts, this reaction allows large multi step reactions to take place, and creates numerous types of products.1 Today, Friedel Crafts reactions are among the most used electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions. In the electrophilic aromatic substitution class of reactions, functional groups are substituted onto an aromatic ring.2 Products such as ketones, hydrocarbons and phenols, phenol ethers, and keto acids can be produced by electrophilic aromatic substitution.1 These products can then undergo other reactions, allowing for the creation of many types of products. The products acquired can be used for a range of purposes, such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, etcetera.3 In particular, Friedel Crafts acylation reactions result in a product containing a ketone. ... To obtain the ketone product, an acyl group is added to an aromatic ring. However, for this reaction to take place, no electron withdrawing groups can be present on the aromatic ring, and an acyl halide must be used to obtain the acyl cation.5 These limitations are met, in the Friedel Crafts acylation reaction of anisole with acetyl ... • 32. How Does Shakespeare Use Deception In Othello Othello is a play about suffering; every character in the play has some cruel compounce: not a single being in the play escapes their harsh fate. Fate is the driving force of Othello, This is shown through the ease of deception by Iago, the various religious influences spread throughout. as well as the meta analysis present in most of shakespeare s plays. Deception is used throughout the play by Iago, however it is not the driving force as said by Alyssa Brown. Othello has the fairly typical theme of deception. Self deception is also a theme (Alyssa Brown, Brown/A/Deception). Deception does not exist in the play. The characters have no freewill and cannot be deceived. This play uses deception wrong according to Shakespeare. Usually, Shakespeare uses deception to a positive end of the players. When used in tragedies, Romeo and Juliet use deception to further their love, although it does ultimately end with their deaths, it ends with the Montague and Capulet families coming together. Shakespeare uses deception to a positive end. Othello does not. Out of the six main characters, four are dead and the other two are maimed and fated ...
