The British-Revolutionary War
The years prior to the Revolutionary War proved to be a trying time for the early American colonists.
The French and Indian War, or Seven Years War, represented the decisive turning point in British
colonial relations. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 ratified Britain s undisputed control of the seas and
shipping trade, as well as its sovereignty over much of the North American continent east of the
Mississippi River (Tax Analysts, 2015). During this time, the British parliament posed many taxes on
the colonists in an effort to decrease the large debt incurred by many years of fighting. Acts such as
the Sugar Act, Currency Act, Stamp Act, Quartering Act, Townshend Act, and the Tea Act, forced the
colonists to pay hefty taxes on a number of goods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boston is a peninsula, surrounded by water with one narrow neck that has accesses to the city. The
Heights on Charlestown peninsula and the Heights on Dorchester all played very important roles
during the siege. The shallow waters in the Boston harbor kept the main British battleships out of the
Boston Harbor, and lead to a ship running aground during the battle of Chelsea Creek. This event
produced much needed supplies for the Continental Army. After Gage withdrew all his forces into
Boston, he only had two options for deploying his troops. He would have either had to go through the
neck of Boston, creating a funnel and slowing down movements, or move them across the harbor by
ships. Both options were time consuming and slowed down any offensive the British would take,
giving the Continental Army much needed time to reinforce and fortify positions. While the British
relied on the narrow neck and it s Navy in the harbor to prevent the Continental Army from attacking
the city, the Continental Army relied on its numbers to keep the British Army in Boston. Dorchester
Heights proved to be the decisive factor leading the Continental Army to a victory. The strategic
emplacement of artillery on Dorchester Heights forced the British to surrender once the British
artillery and navy realized they were unable to elevate their

Iago Is An Artist Of Evil
Many have said that Iago is an artist of Evil. He made it crystal clear that he holds no love or loyalty
all through the play for title character Othello. Reason behind being, Othello unfairly passed him over
for a promotion and went ahead making Cassio his lieutenant even though he, unlike Iago has not
much experience in this field. Iago who was once a devoted soldier under Othello s demand had full
confidence in himself for being the rightful person to take upon the promoted lieutenant position as he
be believed he deserved it after all he was the better soldier as well as his relationship with othello
would have gotten him the there. Assuming many wrongs, Iago was infuriated when denied the role
and it let to bringing out the worse of him.

Language And Second Language Acquisition
Language acquisition is the way in which humans perceive and understand a certain language, as well
as producing and using words and sentences in order to communicate with one another. The way in
which people learn another language is known as Second Language Acquisition, this refers to
someone learning a language other than their mother tongue. A very important aspect within this
process is cross linguistic influence. Cross linguistic influence is a term used to describe the various
ways that certain language systems in the brain interact with and influence one and other. It explains
how they can affect either the linguistic performance or the linguistic development of the learner, if
not both. This most commonly refers to two separate languages, for example the effect that French has
on a native speaker trying to learn another language such as Italian. ... Show more content on

Cross linguistic influence can however be noticed throughout one language by distinguishing between
different varieties and dialects of the language. Due to misunderstandings between languages, a
negative factor of cross linguistic influence can be noticed. Vildomec stated in 1963 that if two
languages a subject has mastered are similar they may co operate in interfering with other tongues.
(Vildomec 1963) For example, in the English translation of the Allied Note answering Germany s first
offer of peace in the year 1917, the French word prétendu meaning alleged was understood as
meaning pretended. There are 200 countries in the world we live in today along with over 6000
languages. Due to various conditions such as social, economical, political or historical factors, people
all over the world are acquiring a language every day which is not their native tongue. Cross linguistic
influence, thus, plays a very important role in connecting

Problem-Solving Courts are Helping to Reform the Justice...
I believe that one of the best reforms to our justice system is the growing number of Problem Solving
Courts. Problem Solving Courts are specialized courts that focus on specific problems in society, such
as drug abuse, prostitution, mental health, domestic violence, etc (Courts). I have chosen drug courts
more specifically to research. According to drugpolicy.org, in 2012 1.55 million people were arrested
for non violent drug charges (Drug Policy Alliance). This is an astounding amount of people being
arrested, which is why I believe it is important to have problem solving courts. Unlike traditional
courts, these specialized courts address the issues that individuals have that cause them to commit
crimes in order to reduce the chances of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Possibly one of the largest obstacles in creating problem solving courts is economical/political issues.
With our nation in a recession many states are seeing budget cuts. The National Center for State
Courts stated that as of 2011, a large number of state and local courts had experienced budget cuts of
15 to 20 percent since 2009 (Griller, 2011). The article also stated that despite the fact that these courts
are cost effective in the long run, hard dollar cost per case figures are beginning to trump soft dollar
crime reduction benefits (Griller, 2011). One idea to help problem solving courts make it through
budget cuts is to have the court provide date periodically that shows evidence of rehabilitation,
declining jail costs, and how this system is improving neighborhoods. The Seattle Municipal Court
has done just this, and has managed to maintain funding to their problem solving courts while there
have been budget cuts to the city government, as well as judicial position reductions (Griller, 2011).
Currently, drug courts have been proven to be successful at reducing recidivism of offenders. In the
United States there are about 120,000 people receiving help in order to rehabilitate them and to try to
reduce the chances of recidivism (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2011). These programs
require individuals to participate in the programs for a minimum of one year. During this year the
individuals are required to appear in court and be drug tested at

A Short Note On The Air Leak Syndrome
Introduction
Air Leak Syndrome is a term used to describe a collection of similar pathologies related to air being in
pulmonary, pleural and interstitial spaces. The most common cause of air leak syndrome in neonates is
inadequate mechanical ventilation of their delicate lungs. The incidence of air leaks in newborns is
inversely related to the birth weight of the infants, especially in infants suffering from respiratory
distress syndrome and meconium aspiration (Walsh, 2015). Chest tube drainage and/or needle
aspiration are necessary in managing pneumopericardium with cardiac tamponade or tension
pneumothorax.
To prevent air leak syndrome, gentle ventilation with low pressure, low tidal volume, low inspiratory
time, high rate, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For pneumothorax, the incidence from 1990 2002 was 13% in babies weighing 1000 grams are at high
risk the first day or two after birth. Babies with pulmonary hypoplasia, meconium aspiration
syndrome, and respiratory distress syndrome are also at higher risk. Use of NIV/CPAP also increases
the risk. An article in the Pediatrics journal cited three cases where children of various ages developed
various air leaks from the use of high flow nasal cannula (HHNC) therapy. The author cited the urgent
need to conduct more studies on HHNC and that it should not be used for providing positive
distending pressure. Set flows should not exceed the patient s minute ventilation (Hegde, 2013).
Prevention
Sadly, it should be understood that most of pulmonary air leaks are iatrogenic. Healthcare workers
should not be overly aggressive when doing CPR and using the bag mask. Infants lungs are fragile and
cannot handle being over ventilated. When using mechanical ventilation, use low pressures low tidal
volumes and high respiratory rates. Risk of pneumothorax and pulmonary interstitial emphysema can
be reduced by using surfactant.
Pathophysiology
Air leaks are a result of overdistention of the lungs and can cause uneven alveolar ventilation and air
trapping. Increased pressures can rupture alveoli or other tissues, allowing air to escape into the
interstitial spaces. This air can then travel through perivascular adventitia, causing pulmonary
interstitial emphysema. If the air

Causes Of The Temperance Movement
The Second Great Awakening was a period of religious revival that peaked between 1820 and 1840.
Accompanied by Manifest Destiny and the Market Revolution, the awakening brought out new
religious ideas to a massive audience. These religious ideas of purity, equality, and the fallacy of
predestination attributed to many important reform movements, including the temperance movement,
the Abolition Movement, the first wave of Feminism, and reforms within prisons.
One major movement in the 19th century that grew from the Second Great Awakening was the
Temperance Movement, a movement that would later lead to the 18th amendment which prohibited
the sale and brewing of alcohol and ushered in the Prohibition Era. According to Lyman Beecher, in
his sermon A Reformation of Morals Practicable and Indispensable, the excessive drinking of alcohol
will produce neither bodies nor minds like those which were the offspring of temperance and virtue.
This statement regarding temperance is just a small part of his larger viewpoint in the sermon, which
focused on how we as Americans need to return to a more faithful society(Doc 1)(POV). This message
would echo through the United States and turn many people against alcohol. In John Warner Barber s
The Drunkard s Progress, or the direct road to poverty, wretchedness ruin, Barber is depicting to
families of possible drunkards the downward spiral of alcohol addiction that is most likely occurring
in their households. Barber uses bible

Teenage Dating in the 1950s Essay examples
Teenage Dating in the 1950s
Teenagers in the 1950 s are so iconic that, for some, they represent the last generation of innocence
before it is lost in the sixties. When asked to imagine this lost group, images of bobbysoxers,
letterman jackets, malt shops and sock hops come instantly to mind. Images like these are so classic,
they, for a number of people, are as American as apple pie. They are produced and perpetuated by the
media, through films like Grease and Pleasantville and television shows like Happy Days, The Donna
Reed Show, and Leave It to Beaver. Because of these entertainment forums, these images will
continue to be a pop cultural symbol of the 1950 s. After the second World War, teenagers became

She then is given the option of accepting his call by letting him in or rejecting it by making up an
excuse as to why she cannot see him. Refreshments were often served (though not always), and the
entertainment was primarily piano playing in the parlor. But because the lower classes were not so
well endowed so that they own pianos or even parlors, they started their own form of courtship which
soon became known as dating. This practice was soon picked up by the upper classes, and from there
it progressed into the middle class, with which it is still inherently associated today (Bailey 17).
Calling and dating are so intrinsically different it is hard to imagine how the transition from one to
another was even made. Firstly, calling was practiced with the intention of finding a suitable husband
for a young lady; whereas, in dating, this was, and still is, not the primary goal. People date because it
is enjoyable, pleasant, and valuable (Merrill 62), and they thought that they could gain rewarding
experiences from it. In the fifties and surrounding decades, handbooks and other books exploring
relationships described dating as a fun activity in which teens are allowed to meet and mingle with
many members of the opposite sex. Besides, dating allowed young people to be with each other
without their parents interfering. Secondly,

The Omo Site Of Ethiopia, Africa
In this research paper we will be discussing the Omo site in Ethiopia, Africa. Some key points that
will be discussed will be its original discovery in 1967, it s addition research that was completed in
2005, Omo I and II s updated age (McDougall et al., 2005), and the scientific importance of the
discoveries from this site and what it means for idea of the first appearance of the modern human
(Fleagle et al., 2008).
In 1967 in the Lower Omo Valley near Kibish, Ethiopia along the Omo river, a team from the Kenya
National Museums, led by Richard Leakey an anthropologist and conservationist, did an initial
exploration which led to the discovery of several stone tools, hominin fossils, and various other skull
fossils of mammals. In this expedition the team found parts of what would be known as Omo I and
Omo II. The finds for Omo I comprised of the mandible, dentition, several parts of the cranium, and a
considerable portion of the post cranial skeleton. Omo I s finds has been described as being a modern
skeleton of Homo sapiens. Omo II comprised of an almost intact neurocranium, which has been
described as primitive remains most closely resembling Homo erectus (Fleagle et al. 2008). At that
time in 1967, researches faced a difficult time establishing an accurate age of these remains due in part
to the confines of technology. The team at this time decided to use a rather controversial method that

the post aural. Lisa being a girl may feel more comfortable if the aid is not seen. She could grow her

Lisa may talk more loudly than necessary, she may not respond to average sound levels but responses

The Cask Of Amontillado, And The Masque Of The Red Death
Edgar Allen Poe, a master of suspense, wrote stories over a hundred and fifty years ago that remain
popular today. One of Poe s suspense techniques in these short stories are unreliable characters. An
unreliable character is a character, whether in literature, film, or theatre, whose credibility has been
seriously compromised. The unreliable narrator forces the reader to ask questions like, Is this true?
rather than Who did it? or What happened? Poe uses unreliable characters in many of his stories very
effectively to keep the reader guessing what is ultimately true. Three of his most famous stories, The
Tell Tale Heart , The Black Cat, The Cask of Amontillado and The Masque of the Red Death . He
illustrated how effective such narration is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the main character was not mad, it would still be a good story. However, Poe made this narrator
unreliable by making him mad. The narrator says, I heard all things in heaven and in the earth. I heard
many things in hell. How then am I mad? This shows that he is unreliable, he asks himself how he is
mad but, right before he said he heard things in heaven and hell. That is unreliable. Poe also doesn t
name the unreliable narrators in these stories which makes them unreliable. He does name other
characters that are more reliable including, the old man and Pluto in The Tell Tale Heart and The
Black Cat. Additionally, Poe uses violence and death to show that the characters were unreliable. In
The Black Cat the main character cut his cats eye out and then, hangs his cat. In The Tell Tale Heart
the main character chokes the old man to death. This is unreliable

Problem Analysis
Ben s Omnicrons Pty Ltd is a company with a highly functional organizational structure. The
managers and employees of six different departments are focusing too narrowly on their own tasks,
performing them in isolation without comprehending previous and subsequent steps outside their
functional silos , therefore losing the sight of the whole picture of the larger business process (Magal

each functional group to their consequences for the other components of the process. The company
had never put much effort and time into developing streamlined, computer based and IT utilized
business process. The overwhelming reliance on paper based manual methods to get things done has
resulted in the insufficient coordination of the whole value chain.

The War on Conflict Diamonds Essay
Diamonds are forever it is often said. But lives are not , says Martin Chungong Ayafor, Chairman of
the Sierra Leone Panel of Experts, We must spare people the ordeal of war, mutilations and death for
the sake of conflict diamonds. (United Nations 2). This is a very powerful quote from someone who
has and is experiencing (Gerund) firsthand the gruesome terror of the conflict over diamonds in
Africa. This war has started because of the greed for money and power in the abundant diamond
industry in the different parts of Africa by the R.U.F. In Sierra Leone alone, about 20,000 innocent
people have suffered bodily mutilation, 75,000 people have been killed, and around 2,000,000 people

(United Nations 1). Early in 1992, the R.U.F seized Kono, the diamond mining capital of Sierra
Leone, because of the amount of profit in the diamond mining industry in Africa, and initiated a
diamond conflict between some diamond mining nations in Africa, thus starting (Gerund) the War
over Conflict Diamonds . In an attempt to put (Infinitive) a halt to this uprising, the National
Provisional Ruling Council (N.P.R.C) waged war with the R.U.F., creating Operation Genesis to force
out the R.U.F. (Brown 1). However, this did not succeed, causing an attack by the R.U.F. on Sierra
Leoneans. To intimidate voters and keep control on the diamond mines, the R.U.F chopped off the
hands and feet of adults, teens, and infants. (Brown 1). Despite this vicious onslaught, the R.U.F. was
still allowed to participate (Infinitive) in the elections. (Brown 1). This remains the biggest reason that
we must put an end to these rebel groups and the pain they cause to African families.
The impact on Africa that the war over conflict diamonds has caused has affected Africa both
positively and negatively. By July of 1999, the violence had greatly risen, which had caused the
government of Sierra Leone to sign a peace agreement with the R.U.F. that legitimized the R.U.F. and
brought it into the government with several cabinet positions. (Brown 2). Sadly, the R.U.F was only
interested in keeping control over the diamond mines in Kono and Tongo. As a

Ethics And Ethical Issues In Medical Volunteering
Medical volunteerism is an activity where someone or a group of people does a task in the medical
field voluntarily without pay, particularly in an underdeveloped country that is lacking medical
professionals. This topic relates to a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathmatics) class this
semester because we had a discussion over the ethics of medical volunteerism. Ethical questions do
arise from this topic. There are countless discussion questions of who benefits from medical

Understanding Military Culture
There are major changes that have transformed the military from the old force which was seen to
focus only on winning battles without caring much about their forces to the highly skilled force it is
today that is all rounded. In order to comprehend the changes in the military there is need for
understanding the military culture. Like any other culture, military culture has evolved from
unorganized forms of administration and organization to the current modern force it is today. There
are different viewpoints on military culture and understanding it requires delving in their systems.
Explanation of military culture has two dimensions; one, the actual service where the force is required
to interact with others while serving and two, the personal life of the veteran and the life off the
military environment.
The picture that explains best about the need to understand military culture is the citizen solder that
serves for a few years and is not likely to return t active duty but associates with the military though
totally disengaged. The lives of military in active service and the veteran are different but swayed by
the same forces, the military culture. Therefore, there is need to understand the military structure and
basic military culture tenets and its elements such as missions, core values and ideals. This paper
seeks to illustrate the importance of military culture training, its foundations and its effects both
locally and internationally.

Effects Of Juvenile Delinquency
The group of people that typically falls into this idea of juvenile delinquency associated with
dangerous or criminal usually points finger to individuals of a lower income class. Not all juvenile
delinquents are from the lower class, but majority are; therefore, for a public s eye view of delinquent
behaviors are most likely caused by those juveniles of a poor background because they have nothing
to lose and everything to gain. Being of lower class falls prey to the malnutrition and/or maltreatment
by parents or guardians. With maltreatment and lack of positive reinforcements in discipline as it
should be; their way of discipline may have been carried out as physical punishments and corrective
actions for unruly behavior which in turn enhanced negative reinforcements of actions and
delinquency. Children who were mistreated by physical abuse and neglected increased the likelihood
risk of committing unruly behavior and actions of juvenile delinquency. There are those juvenile
delinquents that are from upper class, but being within the upper class category gives them the access
to have the legal means of being acquitted where those of lower class are automatically considered a
criminal or scapegoat whether they have committed a crime or not; therefore, it increases the
likelihood of this individual to commit criminal activity in the future because the innocence of this
individual was already lost where everyone already made the judgement that he is the guilty one based
on what their status is.
Between the 18th and 19th centuries, juvenile delinquency became a problematic outbreak that spread
throughout England. Juvenile delinquency became such a widespread problem as a disease that
affected the norms of society with its abusive and violent manner carried out by juveniles. With the
increasing of undisciplined juveniles throughout the country triggered the formations of gangs from its
increasing numbers of members. Due to population growth and poverty with lack of guardianships in
the country caused juvenile to engage in deviant behaviors and committing petty crimes against
citizens. Many juveniles grew up only to know the life of crimes and conducting themselves in deviant
behaviors associating themselves

Each year it costs the Charitable Fund £1.6 million to award grants to students and candidates and to
the people that are homeless, prisoners or disabled. I used this website to help me choose what I
should hire for my charity event. This has helped me to consider the different available activities I can
hire such as the colourful soft play area for children under the age of 5. This site offers staffs that I can
hire such as the crew staff that help to set up the equipment such as the Under 8s Super Heroes
Bouncy Castle; to keep the children active. Even though the majority of the activities are provided by
them, they didn t include the prices to hire the equipment or staff. Therefore, I used a different
website. There is a variety of activities from this website that I can hire and they include all the
information of the prices and when it is available to hire rather than waiting 2 days to get a quote
(which was my main problem when searching for activities to hire for my event.). From this website, I
have decided that to hire the 25ft x 25ft Adults/Childs Bouncy Castle at a price of £275, which I
believe is suitable and eye catching to all ages, is one of the options I can take. It is also stated on the
website that it is fit for adults as well as children. However, I compared the price to another website
and I found that I could hire the same size bouncy castle by a difference of £135 which is a much
better deal. Therefore, I am definitely

Comparing Bhagavad-Gita And The Bible
Around the world numerous religions exist and are followed by individuals seeking for peace and
enlightenment. Throughout each religion the influence of the Bhagavad Gita is present and overlaps
teachings especially to the Bible. The teachings presented in the Bhagavad Gita: The Song of God are
similar to the teachings found in the sacred scriptures of Christian religious traditions. The Bhagavad
Gita and the Bible are both comprised of collected narratives and verses which reveal lessons. The
Bible reveals aspects depicted in both tales and commandments which portray the goals an individual
should strive for to achieve peace. Christians believe in God for salvation and to do so must relinquish
sin, physically and mentally.
The Bible is shared in two texts, the old and new testament, which present teachings before and after
the birth of Jesus. The teachings are a collection of narratives such as the Bhagavad Gita, which are
tales revealing lessons of conduct. Both collection of narratives emphasizes the devotion an individual
must follow to be united with their God. To follow the religion, the person must prove themselves
worthy and live their life for the complete devotion of their God. People who can t fulfill their
devotion are condemned to a sinful life and are refused salvation. The gunas from the Bhagavad ...

A Brief Note On North American Aerospace Defense Command...
A. Introduction
NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) is always prepared to intercept hijacked
airplanes with fighter jets, and are able to debilitate them or shoot them down Fact or fiction? This is a
fact; however, on the day of September 11, 2001, four commercial airplanes were hijacked with the
intent to crash into the world trade center, the pentagon, and possibly the white house. Three of these
planes were successful on this mission and there is substantial evidence that NORAD knew about
these hijackings, at least after the first one hit the World Trade Center. NORAD generals said they
learned of the hijackings in time to scramble fighter jets. (NewsOne) Why did they instead choose to
stand down? Obviously, NORAD was commanded by a higher authority to abstain from thwarting
these men s attempts. This must be because the corrupt government of the United States either knew
these attacks were going to take place, or they allowed them to happen to benefit from the after
effects. The government may not have been completely behind the 9/11 attacks, but they most
certainly had some part in it and had the capability to prevent them; therefore, we must consider the
theories we could possibly believe, and those that we dismiss outright through analysis and
contemplative thought.

Analysis Of The Best Consumer Digital Bank
Banamex
Banamex is the second largest bank in Mexico and was named the best consumer digital bank in 2015
by Global Finance. Banamex serves over 21 million customers at over 1700 branches and around
5,000 ATM s in Mexico and the United States.
Banamex was founded in 1884 when the Banco Nacional Mexicano and the Banco Mercantil
Mexicano merged. These two banks had only been in business for two years when they decided to
form Banamex. In 1926, the bank reorganized and became a financing bank. Over the next 46 years,
Banamex introduced savings accounts (1929), personal credit lines (1958), credit cards (1968), and
ATM banking (1972) to the Mexican market. From 1982 until 1991 Banamex was operated as a
government owned national credit association. In 1991, Banamex restored its private control of the
company and began to step into the groundbreaking idea of expanding private credit. Banamex along
with many other private banks were very inexperienced in this area and they lacked regulation. This
behavior over the next four years, combined with the devaluation of the Mexican peso, an increase in
domestic rates, and a measurable economic recession caused Banamex to almost go into bankruptcy in
late 1994. The Ernesto Zedillo administration stepped in with government funds that attracted
shareholders to put new equity into Banamex This was achieved by the shareholders buying loans,
that were in default, at a 2 to 1 ratio and in return they would receive

Parental Pressure on Children Playing Organized Sports Essay
These days, there is too much pressure on children who participate in organized sports because of the
unnecessary parental involvement they experience. A growing concern amongst those involved in
youth sports is that certain aspects of parental involvement become detrimental to the development
and experiences of young athletes. Early emphasis on winning, making money, and the disruption of
education can exceedingly affect ones desire to further participate in a sport later on in his/her life.
With more and more children participating in some sort of organized sport than ever before, there is a
constant concern regarding the pressures kids are brought into to excel. Emotionally over involved

Then, of course, the entire project collapsed. Drug addiction with its attendant legal and publicity
problems arrived, and the NFL career blew up. The kid went through rehab and came back, but
relapsed, and relapsed and relapsed again finally leaving sports all together. Tiger Woods, the
Williams sisters, and Todd Marinovich are all examples of kids who were mainly edged on by his/her
parent. Kids should not have to experience stress because of the pressure parents may put on them, nor
should they need to believe that a loss is unacceptable. There s just no reason why sports should have
any negative aspects at all. Especially when there are so many positive things that sports can do for a
child if introduced and carried out in the right way, specifically at a young age.
Over time, these youngsters may be permanently emotionally exhausted causing some to turn to
steroids in hope to gain an edge or perhaps give up on sports, and exercise, altogether. Intense training,
of coaches from club or travel teams, becomes an enticement to win the next season which may carry
on to the off season to train and become better than the best. But where s the fun in that? When will
kids have the time to try out other sports?

controlling behavior toward coaches,

Night Lights By Peter Berg And Executively Produced By...
I find it essential to my being to embody the predictable role of an average college student and watch
various shows on Netflix during every free second of my day. Most shows available on Netflix are not
necessarily what is currently available on cable, but that doesn t mean the shows aren t worthy of
being watched on a continuous cycle for hours upon hours, until suddenly realizing that it s 12 am and
the paper due in two hours has yet to be submitted. One of the few shows I would consider worthy of
such procrastination is viewable via Netflix, and is called Friday Night Lights. Friday Night Lights
was developed by Peter Berg and executively produced by Brian Grazer, David Nevins, Sarah Aubrey,
and Jason Katims. The show ended after only five solid seasons in 2010, but continues to leave
everyone who watches hooked, and relating to the various tribulations within the plot line, including
football fanatics, academics, and housewives alike; all within a matter of episodes.
This American drama television series focuses on a small high school in a fictional town located in
rural Texas, called Dillon. This small town eats, sleeps, and breathes Dillon high school football. The
community in this town is tight knit and the show focuses on the football team: The Dillon Panthers, it
also zones in on the highly respected Coach: Eric Taylor. In each episode the only characters you re

You may encounter many defeats but you must not be defeated, (Angelou 448). A quote in which is
true in the stories that this author wrote and in her own life. In the short stories and poem, from I
Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Caged Bird, New Directions, and Woman Work, Maya Angelou
writes about the human spirit and freedom. In each of her works of literature, Angelou addresses the
point of being free and creating your own life. Although it isn t stated in all of the stories, one can
infer the meaning based off of the context of the story.
In the story, from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Angelou talks about her early life as a child. It
was not the most pleasant experience for someone go through, but her will to survive and be free kept
her going. The overall tone of the story was negative and used slang. This is shown when the author
writes, Home fo bits and six bits... The sounds of the morning had been replaced with grumbles about
cheating houses, weighted scales, snakes, skimpy cotton, and the dusty rows (492 Angelou). Having a
negative tone fits the theme of the story, which is to do whatever it takes to get a living, because

public belief that police brutality has become a norm within the police system in recent years. Yet this

to take account of in the criminal justice system specifically towards African Americans. The criminal

Existentialism is a philosophical theory or approach that emphasizes the existence of the individual

people see the the philosopher Jean Paul Sartre as the father of existentialism , but existentialism was

In Fyodor Dostoyevskys novel Notes from Undergroud an unamed man is ill with too much
conscious, he is aware of his environment to such an extend that to him there is no rigth or wrong and
he doesn t do anything because when people are faced with all angles to the answer of a question
without having a predetermined sence of rigth and wrong it becomes very difficult to take action. I
could not become anything; neither good nor bad; neither a scoundrel nor an honest man; neither a
hero nor an insect. And now I am eking out my days in my corner, taunting myself with the bitter and
entirely useless consolation that an intelligent man cannot seriously become anything, that only a fool
can become something. Friedrich Nietzsche the true father of existentialism was an extremely lonely
man he thought solitude was needed to beacuse in his mind being around other people would trigger
the herd instinct of morality, according to Nietzsche to become your self you must be by yourself. The
individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you
will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. Nietzsche had a mental break down and died a sad

Connecticut and the solution to reduce tax burden on low income family. In Singer s article,
Connecticut legislators are deciding to increase sales tax from it s current to 6.85% to fix a budget

the highest. According to the graph provided by ITEPS research report (July 2017), Connecticut s four
percent gas tax is higher than certain states such as Kentucky, South Dakota, and Michigan, but lower
than other states such as Alaska, Louisiana and New Mexico. If Connecticut decides to increase its

Change Management
Leading Culture Change at Seagram
Why did Seagram need to Change? Why did it use a values based approach?
In the mid nineties, Seagram s core market, the spirits and wine business, had stalled. At the same time
its CEO, Edgar Bronfman Jr. (Bronfman) sold their 25% stake in the chemical giant DuPont. This was
the payment from when Seagram s in 1982 sold the oil company
Conoco to DuPont. This stake in DuPont, by 1995, represented about 70% of Seagram s total
earnings. The income from the sale fueled a further diversification of the company, but also a
strengthening of its core business with purchases that gave access to new markets. Bronfman had
anticipated the need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seagram needed to change the very foundation of the mindset of both the existing organization and the
new companies bought to strengthen the core business. Bronfman had already set the strategy and he
knew he did not have the organizational culture to reach it. In order to change the culture based on silo
thinking, risk aversion, hierarchy and limited communications over to respect, quality, teamwork,
innovation and customer focus he needed to fundamentally change the beliefs and values of the people
in the organization.. The best way to do that is to start with defining the behaviors Seagram would
most value.
How well has the change been accomplished?
Based on the information from the case, it is too early to say if the change has been successful.
However, Bronfman and the senior management have done a number of actions in line with
management theory to facilitate a future success of the cultural change. First
Bronfman analyzed the business and identified the need for cultural change in line with the new
strategy of the company. He then set a stirring vision of being the best managed beverage company .
He took a personal hands on , visible involvement in the process and everybody in the organization
knew that the change had commitment from the very top. I believe the act of selling the company that
made the most profit also can be viewed as an act of separating the past from the present. Doing this,
he also

  • 3. The British-Revolutionary War The years prior to the Revolutionary War proved to be a trying time for the early American colonists. The French and Indian War, or Seven Years War, represented the decisive turning point in British colonial relations. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 ratified Britain s undisputed control of the seas and shipping trade, as well as its sovereignty over much of the North American continent east of the Mississippi River (Tax Analysts, 2015). During this time, the British parliament posed many taxes on the colonists in an effort to decrease the large debt incurred by many years of fighting. Acts such as the Sugar Act, Currency Act, Stamp Act, Quartering Act, Townshend Act, and the Tea Act, forced the colonists to pay hefty taxes on a number of goods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boston is a peninsula, surrounded by water with one narrow neck that has accesses to the city. The Heights on Charlestown peninsula and the Heights on Dorchester all played very important roles during the siege. The shallow waters in the Boston harbor kept the main British battleships out of the Boston Harbor, and lead to a ship running aground during the battle of Chelsea Creek. This event produced much needed supplies for the Continental Army. After Gage withdrew all his forces into Boston, he only had two options for deploying his troops. He would have either had to go through the neck of Boston, creating a funnel and slowing down movements, or move them across the harbor by ships. Both options were time consuming and slowed down any offensive the British would take, giving the Continental Army much needed time to reinforce and fortify positions. While the British relied on the narrow neck and it s Navy in the harbor to prevent the Continental Army from attacking the city, the Continental Army relied on its numbers to keep the British Army in Boston. Dorchester Heights proved to be the decisive factor leading the Continental Army to a victory. The strategic emplacement of artillery on Dorchester Heights forced the British to surrender once the British artillery and navy realized they were unable to elevate their ... Reason behind being, Othello unfairly passed him over for a promotion and went ahead making Cassio his lieutenant even though he, unlike Iago has not much experience in this field. Iago who was once a devoted soldier under Othello s demand had full confidence in himself for being the rightful person to take upon the promoted lieutenant position as he be believed he deserved it after all he was the better soldier as well as his relationship with othello would have gotten him the there. • 5. Language And Second Language Acquisition Language acquisition is the way in which humans perceive and understand a certain language, as well as producing and using words and sentences in order to communicate with one another. The way in which people learn another language is known as Second Language Acquisition, this refers to someone learning a language other than their mother tongue. A very important aspect within this process is cross linguistic influence. Cross linguistic influence is a term used to describe the various ways that certain language systems in the brain interact with and influence one and other. It explains how they can affect either the linguistic performance or the linguistic development of the learner, if not both. This most commonly refers to two separate languages, for example the effect that French has on a native speaker trying to learn another language such as Italian. ... Due to misunderstandings between languages, a negative factor of cross linguistic influence can be noticed. (Vildomec 1963) For example, in the English translation of the Allied Note answering Germany s first offer of peace in the year 1917, the French word prétendu meaning alleged was understood as meaning pretended. There are 200 countries in the world we live in today along with over 6000 languages. • 6. Problem-Solving Courts are Helping to Reform the Justice... I believe that one of the best reforms to our justice system is the growing number of Problem Solving Courts. Problem Solving Courts are specialized courts that focus on specific problems in society, such as drug abuse, prostitution, mental health, domestic violence, etc (Courts). I have chosen drug courts more specifically to research. According to drugpolicy.org, in 2012 1.55 million people were arrested for non violent drug charges (Drug Policy Alliance). This is an astounding amount of people being arrested, which is why I believe it is important to have problem solving courts. Unlike traditional courts, these specialized courts address the issues that individuals have that cause them to commit crimes in order to reduce the chances of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Possibly one of the largest obstacles in creating problem solving courts is economical/political issues. With our nation in a recession many states are seeing budget cuts. The National Center for State Courts stated that as of 2011, a large number of state and local courts had experienced budget cuts of 15 to 20 percent since 2009 (Griller, 2011). The article also stated that despite the fact that these courts are cost effective in the long run, hard dollar cost per case figures are beginning to trump soft dollar crime reduction benefits (Griller, 2011). One idea to help problem solving courts make it through budget cuts is to have the court provide date periodically that shows evidence of rehabilitation, declining jail costs, and how this system is improving neighborhoods. The Seattle Municipal Court has done just this, and has managed to maintain funding to their problem solving courts while there have been budget cuts to the city government, as well as judicial position reductions (Griller, 2011). Currently, drug courts have been proven to be successful at reducing recidivism of offenders. In the United States there are about 120,000 people receiving help in order to rehabilitate them and to try to reduce the chances of recidivism (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2011). These programs require individuals to participate in the programs for a minimum of one year. During this year the individuals are required to appear in court and be drug tested at ... • 8. A Short Note On The Air Leak Syndrome Introduction Air Leak Syndrome is a term used to describe a collection of similar pathologies related to air being in pulmonary, pleural and interstitial spaces. The most common cause of air leak syndrome in neonates is inadequate mechanical ventilation of their delicate lungs. The incidence of air leaks in newborns is inversely related to the birth weight of the infants, especially in infants suffering from respiratory distress syndrome and meconium aspiration (Walsh, 2015). Chest tube drainage and/or needle aspiration are necessary in managing pneumopericardium with cardiac tamponade or tension pneumothorax. To prevent air leak syndrome, gentle ventilation with low pressure, low tidal volume, low inspiratory time, high rate, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For pneumothorax, the incidence from 1990 2002 was 13% in babies weighing 1000 grams are at high risk the first day or two after birth. Babies with pulmonary hypoplasia, meconium aspiration syndrome, and respiratory distress syndrome are also at higher risk. Use of NIV/CPAP also increases the risk. An article in the Pediatrics journal cited three cases where children of various ages developed various air leaks from the use of high flow nasal cannula (HHNC) therapy. The author cited the urgent need to conduct more studies on HHNC and that it should not be used for providing positive distending pressure. Set flows should not exceed the patient s minute ventilation (Hegde, 2013). Prevention Sadly, it should be understood that most of pulmonary air leaks are iatrogenic. Healthcare workers should not be overly aggressive when doing CPR and using the bag mask. Infants lungs are fragile and cannot handle being over ventilated. When using mechanical ventilation, use low pressures low tidal volumes and high respiratory rates. Risk of pneumothorax and pulmonary interstitial emphysema can be reduced by using surfactant. Pathophysiology Air leaks are a result of overdistention of the lungs and can cause uneven alveolar ventilation and air trapping. Increased pressures can rupture alveoli or other tissues, allowing air to escape into the interstitial spaces. This air can then travel through perivascular adventitia, causing pulmonary interstitial emphysema. If the air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Causes Of The Temperance Movement The Second Great Awakening was a period of religious revival that peaked between 1820 and 1840. Accompanied by Manifest Destiny and the Market Revolution, the awakening brought out new religious ideas to a massive audience. These religious ideas of purity, equality, and the fallacy of predestination attributed to many important reform movements, including the temperance movement, the Abolition Movement, the first wave of Feminism, and reforms within prisons. One major movement in the 19th century that grew from the Second Great Awakening was the Temperance Movement, a movement that would later lead to the 18th amendment which prohibited the sale and brewing of alcohol and ushered in the Prohibition Era. According to Lyman Beecher, in his sermon A Reformation of Morals Practicable and Indispensable, the excessive drinking of alcohol will produce neither bodies nor minds like those which were the offspring of temperance and virtue. This statement regarding temperance is just a small part of his larger viewpoint in the sermon, which focused on how we as Americans need to return to a more faithful society(Doc 1)(POV). This message would echo through the United States and turn many people against alcohol. Teenage Dating in the 1950s Essay examples Teenage Dating in the 1950s Teenagers in the 1950 s are so iconic that, for some, they represent the last generation of innocence before it is lost in the sixties. When asked to imagine this lost group, images of bobbysoxers, letterman jackets, malt shops and sock hops come instantly to mind. Images like these are so classic, they, for a number of people, are as American as apple pie. They are produced and perpetuated by the media, through films like Grease and Pleasantville and television shows like Happy Days, The Donna Reed Show, and Leave It to Beaver. Refreshments were often served (though not always), and the entertainment was primarily piano playing in the parlor. But because the lower classes were not so well endowed so that they own pianos or even parlors, they started their own form of courtship which soon became known as dating. This practice was soon picked up by the upper classes, and from there it progressed into the middle class, with which it is still inherently associated today (Bailey 17). Calling and dating are so intrinsically different it is hard to imagine how the transition from one to another was even made. Firstly, calling was practiced with the intention of finding a suitable husband for a young lady; whereas, in dating, this was, and still is, not the primary goal. People date because it is enjoyable, pleasant, and valuable (Merrill 62), and they thought that they could gain rewarding experiences from it. Some key points that will be discussed will be its original discovery in 1967, it s addition research that was completed in 2005, Omo I and II s updated age (McDougall et al., 2005), and the scientific importance of the discoveries from this site and what it means for idea of the first appearance of the modern human (Fleagle et al., 2008). In 1967 in the Lower Omo Valley near Kibish, Ethiopia along the Omo river, a team from the Kenya National Museums, led by Richard Leakey an anthropologist and conservationist, did an initial exploration which led to the discovery of several stone tools, hominin fossils, and various other skull fossils of mammals. In this expedition the team found parts of what would be known as Omo I and Omo II. The finds for Omo I comprised of the mandible, dentition, several parts of the cranium, and a considerable portion of the post cranial skeleton. Omo I s finds has been described as being a modern skeleton of Homo sapiens. Omo II comprised of an almost intact neurocranium, which has been described as primitive remains most closely resembling Homo erectus (Fleagle et al. 2008). At that time in 1967, researches faced a difficult time establishing an accurate age of these remains due in part to the confines of technology. • 13. The Cask Of Amontillado, And The Masque Of The Red Death Edgar Allen Poe, a master of suspense, wrote stories over a hundred and fifty years ago that remain popular today. One of Poe s suspense techniques in these short stories are unreliable characters. An unreliable character is a character, whether in literature, film, or theatre, whose credibility has been seriously compromised. The unreliable narrator forces the reader to ask questions like, Is this true? rather than Who did it? or What happened? Poe uses unreliable characters in many of his stories very effectively to keep the reader guessing what is ultimately true. In an attempt to put (Infinitive) a halt to this uprising, the National Provisional Ruling Council (N.P.R.C) waged war with the R.U.F., creating Operation Genesis to force out the R.U.F. (Brown 1). However, this did not succeed, causing an attack by the R.U.F. on Sierra Leoneans. The impact on Africa that the war over conflict diamonds has caused has affected Africa both positively and negatively. Effects Of Juvenile Delinquency The group of people that typically falls into this idea of juvenile delinquency associated with dangerous or criminal usually points finger to individuals of a lower income class. Not all juvenile delinquents are from the lower class, but majority are; therefore, for a public s eye view of delinquent behaviors are most likely caused by those juveniles of a poor background because they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Being of lower class falls prey to the malnutrition and/or maltreatment by parents or guardians. With maltreatment and lack of positive reinforcements in discipline as it should be; their way of discipline may have been carried out as physical punishments and corrective actions for unruly behavior which in turn enhanced negative reinforcements of actions and delinquency. Children who were mistreated by physical abuse and neglected increased the likelihood risk of committing unruly behavior and actions of juvenile delinquency. There are those juvenile delinquents that are from upper class, but being within the upper class category gives them the access to have the legal means of being acquitted where those of lower class are automatically considered a criminal or scapegoat whether they have committed a crime or not; therefore, it increases the likelihood of this individual to commit criminal activity in the future because the innocence of this individual was already lost where everyone already made the judgement that he is the guilty one based on what their status is. Between the 18th and 19th centuries, juvenile delinquency became a problematic outbreak that spread throughout England. Juvenile delinquency became such a widespread problem as a disease that affected the norms of society with its abusive and violent manner carried out by juveniles. With the increasing of undisciplined juveniles throughout the country triggered the formations of gangs from its increasing numbers of members. Introduction NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) is always prepared to intercept hijacked airplanes with fighter jets, and are able to debilitate them or shoot them down Fact or fiction? This is a fact; however, on the day of September 11, 2001, four commercial airplanes were hijacked with the intent to crash into the world trade center, the pentagon, and possibly the white house. Three of these planes were successful on this mission and there is substantial evidence that NORAD knew about these hijackings, at least after the first one hit the World Trade Center. NORAD generals said they learned of the hijackings in time to scramble fighter jets. (NewsOne) Why did they instead choose to stand down? Obviously, NORAD was commanded by a higher authority to abstain from thwarting these men s attempts. This must be because the corrupt government of the United States either knew these attacks were going to take place, or they allowed them to happen to benefit from the after effects. The government may not have been completely behind the 9/11 attacks, but they most certainly had some part in it and had the capability to prevent them; therefore, we must consider the theories we could possibly believe, and those that we dismiss outright through analysis and contemplative thought. From 1982 until 1991 Banamex was operated as a government owned national credit association. In 1991, Banamex restored its private control of the company and began to step into the groundbreaking idea of expanding private credit. Banamex along with many other private banks were very inexperienced in this area and they lacked regulation. This behavior over the next four years, combined with the devaluation of the Mexican peso, an increase in domestic rates, and a measurable economic recession caused Banamex to almost go into bankruptcy in late 1994.
