The Alaskan Way Viaduct Essay
The Alaskan Way Viaduct is connected to State Route 99 and is located on the Elliot Bay
downtown waterfront in Seattle, King County, Washington. It is a two level structure of reinforced
concrete that runs for about two miles. The Viaduct was designed by the City of Seattle
Engineering Department and the WashingtonDepartment of Highways, Bridge Division, and is
owned by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The viaduct was built
between 1949 and 1966 and was the first double decker to be built in Washington. The viaduct gave
a direct connection through downtown Seattleand the industrial areas to the south. When it was
built, it had the ability to carry over one hundred thousand vehicles per day.

The viaduct would add 44 percent to the effective width of Alaskan Way while deducting less than
5 percent for the strips to be occupied by support columns. (HAER).
The construction was completed in five phases so it would be less disruptive and so that the
funding for each section would be secured. The total cost for the initial three sections and the
tunnel, including the right of way, design and administration was $10,627,006. Approximately half
of the funding ($5,860,625) came from the City of Seattle, with the remainder from the Washington
State Motor Vehicle Fund ($2,459,783) and the Federal Public Roads Administration ($2,306,608).
(HAER).
A web page I found titled Viaduct Beginnings stated, The first phase, from Battery Street to Pike
Street below the Pike Place Market, was the most difficult, and was built between December 1949
and July 1951. Even before this was completed, construction began on the second section, from
Pike Street to King Street, and finished in August 1952. The third section began in November
1951 but was not completed until April 1953 because of a nationwide steel strike. These three
sections, extending from Battery Street to Railroad Way/S. Dearborn Street were opened to traffic
on April 4, 1953, three and a half years after construction began. The two ramps at the south end
near Railroad Way S. served as the southern terminus of the project until the connection to S.
Spokane Street was completed in 1960. The Battery

English Translation Of The United States
Originally, First Nations had Fared Well; however, since the European invasion they have been the
victims of the Well Fare system. First Nations are gradually losing their traditional ways of living.
We no longer gather roots and hunt for our sustenance. We have inevitably picked up the European
ways; we have become victims of the Well Fare system. The Secwepemcpeople have existed in
their current territory for 10,000 years and thrived through their own work and trading with other
tribes. The Secwepemc were affluent enough to share with those that were in need and in turn
received help when the Secwepemc were in need. We took only what was needed. As time goes on
the Secwepemc people continue to become prosperous in European terms, collecting and hoarding
more and more. The Secwepemc take part in the local economy in various ways. As a First Nations
people we need to find our way back to our traditional roots and only then will we find ourselves in
a Faring Well community.
The word Kamloops is the English translation of the Shuswap word Tk emlГєps, meaning where
the rivers meet, and for centuries has been the home of the Tk emlupsemc, people of the
confluence (Our Land, 2016). The Secwepemc people are a nation of 17 bands that occupy the
south central part of the Province of British Columbia. European contact with the colonial
government divided the Secwepemc into 17 distinctive groups in 1811, with specific parcels of
land selected for each. The Secwepemc people fall

The Effect Of Osmosis On The Rate Of Osmosis
The reasoning behind this experiment is the examine whether the rate of osmosis is changed due
to a change in temperature. It was hypothesized that the rate of osmosis will increase as the
temperature of the sucrose is increased. The rate of osmosis was tested by using the different jars
full of different temperate water and testing how high the water rose on an osmometer over a span
of 20 minutes. An osmometer is a tool used to measure rates of osmosis. The different temperatures
tested on a sucrose solution were 5 degrees Celsius, 20 degrees Celsius, and 37 degrees Celsius.
Rates of osmosis were higher in the hot water than in the cold water and control. The results showed
that the rate of osmosis increased as the temperatureincreased, henceforth the hypothesis was
supported. In conclusion, the experiment showed how changes in temperature affect the rate of
osmosis.
Introduction: Osmosis is a process in which molecules in a solvent pass across a semipermeable
membrane into a more concentrated solution from a less concentrated one, attempting to make
both sides isotonic or equal to each other. Isotonic can also be described as an equilibrium, where
there is no net movement of the molecules. Osmosis is relevant in everyday life whether the
general population is aware of it or not. It could be as simple as sitting in the pool too long and
getting pruney fingers or as complex as a cholera infection in the intestinal cells that does not allow

Success As Portrayed In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead
Many people define success as being famous or wealthy. However, that is not success. Throughout
The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, Howard Roark and Peter Keating are depicted as opposites trying
to succeed.
Peter Keating is successful in the beginning while Roark is struggling or failing. He is wealthy
and well known. Keating is However a liar and a cheat. Keating has Roark do his work and
presents it as his own. In court the prosecutor asks, Mr. Keating, will you state under oath whether
you designed the project ascribed to you, known as Cortlandt Homes? the passage states Keating
answering, no. I didn t. ( The Fountainhead, 510).This shows he lied and cheated.
He lied to society about the project given to him. He cheated by using Roark s design. Keating is
selfish yet, selfless. He does anything society tells him and even abandons his true love
(Catherine Halsey) and marries Dominique for his image. Dominique impresses many people
and is described as beautiful and graceful. He isn t truly happy. He allows society to dominate his
life and gives up his own judgement and values. It is because of this he praises Roark for his
courage and inwardly resents Roark. Keating doesn t actually care about designs but his success. ...

Philosophy On Justice
Justice is a moral as well as a political concept. The meaning of Justice varies from one political
thinker to another. The Oxford English Dictionary defines a just person as one who typically does
what is morally right and is disposed to giving everyone his or her due. Philosophers, both modern
and medieval, went beyond etymology and dictionary meanings to understand the right meaning of
justice. The nature of justice as both a moral virtue of character and a desirable quality of political
society, as well as how it applies to ethical and social decision making were the most important
topics that were studied by the philosophers. Most of the philosophers had their own theories of
justice on various social issues such as civil disobedience, punishment, equal opportunity for
women, slavery, war, property rights, and international relations. According to Plato, justice is...

John Locke was one such philosopher who believed in this natural law. Justice requires according
individuals or groups to get what they actually deserve or what they are entitled to. Just like
Newton s third law of motions every action has an equal and opposite reaction , justice ensures
that every unlawful or unjust actions are met with such reactions that there is a balance in the
society and everyone gets the merit they deserve. According to me, justice is an universal and
absolute concept. Laws, principles, rules, religion are just some ways of explaining the concept,
with results that sometimes go against the entire concept of what true justice is. Justice is also
derived when everyone in the society has a mutual agreement over equality and the absence of bias.
John Rawls once remarked, Justice is the first virtue of social institutions, as truth is of systems of
thought. Justice is the concept of cardinal virtues, of which it is one. The association of justice with
fairness is thus historically and culturally

The Second Restatement Of Conflicts Of Law
A forum applies its own choice of law approach. So here North Montana will apply the Second
Restatement of Conflicts of Laws as the state follows that approach. Under the Second
Restatement, three main steps need to be considered: 1) whether the conflict is procedural or
substantive, 2) whether a choice of law provision in a contract should be applied, and 3) the
application of a choice of law rule. Here, it appears that the choice of law provision selecting Old
York should be applied because none of the exceptions to the general rule apply.
I.Procedural vs. Substantive Law
The first step under the Second Restatement approach is to determine whether a rule is rule is
procedural or substantive. If a rule is procedural than a forum will apply its own law. Courts
determine whether a law is substantive based on whether a section of the restatement classifies it as
substantive. Section 193 of the Second Restatement governs the validity of insurance contracts.
Here, the question is about the validity of a provision in an insurance contract, thus the Second
Restatement classifies this dispute as substantive, not procedural.
II.Choice of Law Provision
The second step under the Second Restatement is to consider any choice of law provisions within
the contract at issue. Here, the insurance contract has a choice of law provision that states [t]his
agreement is governed by the law of Old York. Under Section 187 of the Second Restatement,
choice of law provisions are

How Did Nicholas Sarkozy Ban The Construction Of More...
Amidst the furore instigated by the Swiss minaret referendum in 2009 (Migration Policy Institute,
2009), former French president Nicolas Sarkozy voiced his sympathy and his understanding for
the collective decision to ban the construction of more minarets within Switzerland through an
article titled Respecter ceux qui arrivent, respecter ceux qui accueillent (Sarkozy, 2009b).
Sarkozy s article first appeared in the December 8th publication of Le Monde a French daily
newspaper in 2009, and was subsequently edited and translated by The Guardian, an English news
agency based in the United Kingdom (Sarkozy, 2009a). It is of importance to note that this
discourse is based on the translated (English) version of Sarkozy s article. Given the nature of
translations, expressions and connotations from the original commentary may be altered and hence,
discrepancies may arise.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although his argument may seem compelling upon first glance, due to Sarkozy s vast omission of
crucial information, it is evident that his claims are incomplete, erroneous, and moreover, a
perversion of what he purports. This paper attempts to present a thorough exposition of Sarkozy s
argument, confront his baseless conclusions by considering and highlighting four factors: the
background and cause of the Swiss minaret vote, the opposition and their perspective, the image and
lives of Muslims in Switzerland and France, and the development of populism; additionally, to

Macromolecules Of Carbohydrates
Background and Carbohydrates
How are macromolecule polymers assembled from monomers? How are they broken down?
To assemble a macromolecule polymer from monomers, the monomers must bond. This is a
process known as a dehydration reaction, in which a water molecule is lost to form the bond.
When this process occurs, each of the two bonded monomers provides part of the water molecule
that was lost in the dehydration reaction: one contributes a hydroxyl group and the other a
hydrogen. Dehydration reaction can take place over and over again, losing a water molecule every
time, and forming a chain of monomers: a macromolecule. These macromolecules are disassembled
by hydrolysis. This process is the inverse of a dehydration reaction: the covalent bond between the
monomers is broken when water is added, a hydrogen attaching to one monomer and a hydroxyl
group attaching to the other.
How can you tell a biological molecule is a carbohydrate?
Carbohydrates are sugars that contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen in a 1:2:1 ratio. They can be
used for storage, structure, and energy. An example is glucose, with chemical formula C6H12O6.
Explain the relationship between monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides.
All three are carbohydrates. Monosaccharides are the simplest carbohydrates and are classified as
simple sugars with molecular formulas that are multiples of CH2O. Disaccharides are two
monosaccharides bonded by a glycosidic linkage (a covalent bond formed by dehydration

Comparing Arcite And Palamon
As host on the trail to Canterbury I have the honor of judging all the stories told by my
companions. The tales ranged from love to death to despair, but only one can win. The Knight is
a valiant, young soul who never ceases to impress on and off the battlefield. His tale also
impresses its audience. The knight is the winner because his tale is filled with love, pain,
adventure. The Knight s tale is a love story. The two main characters, Arcite and Palamon, are
madly in love with the Princess, Emily. They both love her at first sight, so much so that Arcite
says that the beauty of Emily hit him with so much force, that if Palamon was severely wounded he
would still hurt more, ... at the sight of her beauty touched him so that, if Palamon

Health Outcomes Of The World Health
More than a century ago, the first health outcome measure was proposed by Florence
Nightingale by classifying patients into relieved, unrelieved and dead (1). Other guides such as
mortality rates have historically been used to measure health outcomes at a population level (2).
However, the definition of health has changed in the past century to include a wider view of
outcomes which includes freedom from disease, ability to perform daily activities, happiness,
social and emotional well being, and quality of life. The World Health Organization (WHO) has
defined health as physical, mental, and social well being, and not merely the absence of disease
and infirmity (3). As a result numerous measures have been developed in an attempt to quantify
health. Health outcome measures are tools used to evaluate an individuals health using different
health related parameters. Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) are instruments that
are completed by patients and capture one or more aspects of health (4, 5). The use of PROMs
formally to monitor surgical outcomes in England has been an important development (6). Since
2007, the Department of Health has required the routine measurement of patient reported health
outcomes for all NHS patients via its PROMs programme (5, 6). PROMs are increasingly used in
decision making to encourage a patient centered approach (5, 7). For this reason, PROMs must be
valid, reliable, and clinically useful measures. There are over 100 PROMs applicable

The Origin Of Syrian Heritage
The very origin of Syrian heritage is dominated by foreign empires Assyrians, British, Egyptians,
French, Hittites, Macedonian Greeks, Mongols, Persians, Romans, and Turks. The power of the
aforementioned foreign empires greatly influenced the development of Syria. Just in the last three
hundred and fifty years, the political rule in Syriahas shifted several different times from the
Ottomans to the Assyrians, from the Assyrians to the British and French, from the British and
French to the Baath Party, from the Baath Party to the United Arab Republic, and from the United
Arab Republic to the rule of Assad. The Syrian economy in the sixteenth century was mainly
supported by agriculture and military pursuits, while advances in the nineteenth century allowed for
an economic growth boosted by energy and mineral resources electrical generation, mining, nuclear
energy, and oil and natural gas and industry and manufacturing. During the last five centuries, Syria
has been occupied by Christians (Catholic, Orthodox, and others), Druze, Jews, Kurds, Shia
Muslims (Alawis, Ismailis, and others), Sunni Muslim Arabs, and Yazidis. Despite that, Syrian
society has still been overwhelmingly Muslim. While the development of economics and religion
have changed Syrian history immensely, the development of politics has been the driving force in
Syrian evolution. The economic advances throughout Syrian history are closely linked to the

Japanese-Americans Racism-Discrimination
Each day we live, taking for granted everything we have. Freedom to choose where to live, eat,
work, and go to school. What would happen if all of that was taken away? And not just by another
country, but by our own people. Our own government took our rights and belongings away
overnight. What would people do? On February 19 of 1942, the president of the United States,
Franklin D. Roosevelt, signed an evacuation order, ordering the evacuation of all persons deemed
a threat to national security from the West Coast to relocation centers further inland ( ). Meaning
anyone who looked like they were of japanese descent, was considered a threat to the security of
the United States. The racism towards the japanese people was in the way they were looked at,
how they lived in the camps, and how they were treated. On December 7, 1941 there was a tragic
attack on an American military base in Hawaii, called Pearl Harbor. It was led by the japanese
empire. This is what started it all, with the racism of the different ethnic groups towards to
japanese people. Each time fellow Americans saw someone of japanese descent, it brought up
memories of this day in history. The emotions it stirred up the pain and loss, created anger and
hatred towards each of these people. The people of America were scared. The president decided
to send the people of his own country away. Some say it was for their own protection, but others
say it was just because we were afraid of the Japanese American people

Bp and Stakeholder Mismanagement
Thesis
Poor stakeholder management led to preventable mishaps such as the disasters in Alaska and
Texas. Specifically, BP s defensive approach towards stakeholder management led to lavish
compensation for upper level management while creating hazardous working conditions for
employees and a burden on all of society in the form of rising oil prices and environmental damage.
Background
British Petroleum was founded in 1908 and since then has rapidly grown to become the eighth
largest company in the world . However, as of late, BP has come under fire for several high profile
disasters, including the Texas City refinery explosion and the Prudhoe Bay oil spill.

The US Chemical Safety Board stated that there is a solid case for citing some fault on cost cutting
in the Texas City disaster. In fact was BP aggressively cut maintenance investment in their refinery
by 84% between the years 1992 2000 . Additionally BP lacked many company wide safety
standards and left the decision making to plant managers, a position which had a high turnover
rate . Cost cutting was eventually handed down to the employees in the form of a hazardous work
place, with 15 deaths and over 170 others injured in the Texas City explosion.
Stakeholder Snapshot: Society
BP s negligence and lackluster response to the Prudhoe Bay oil spill caused damage to the
surrounding environment and forced a spike in oil prices, drawing intense criticism and scrutiny
from the Federal government and the American public.
BP s handling of the cleanup has raised serious questions about the concern the company has for
the environment. Five months following the accident, 17,000 gallons of crude oil remained to be
drained from the surrounding areas of the pipeline . Following the accident, BP has faced pressure
from the Justice Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Congress due to the
environmental damage. Prior to the spill, the company was already being investigated by the EPA
for possible violations of the U.S. Clean Water Act due to pipeline corrosion. It now faces a grand
jury investigation which may lead to

Analysis Of The Short Story Where Did You Get That Name
What defines the cause that ultimately depicts our take on life? On the surface, people typically
see gender as a definable matter, but fail to consider the variations that exist. Stories provide
examples of infectious reasons one views the world as they do. One s identity influences the
authenticity of a situation presented, maturity affects how one contributes to foul behavior, and
those reflecting a wide variety of experiences are more adaptable to foreign circumstances. The
background of an individual determines their approach and consideration of situations. The short
storyWhere Did You Get That Name? , by Baratunde Thurston, demonstrates this precisely, when
Baratunde, a young Nigerian boy, finds himself explaining the origin of his name to who he refers
to as Father Nigeria, saying I got it from my parents (Thurston3), only for the interrogation to
continue and the man to dismiss his explanation and ruthlessly assume that Baratunde [had] no
history, no culture, no roots...[and] decided to indict, judge and reject all of African America.
(Thurston3). Father Nigeria , being marinated in the Nigerian Culture all his life, immediately
questioned Baratunde s authenticity. Because Baratunde was only partially Nigerian, this man
reverted to his culturally defensive mentality, and undermined Baratunde s identity. Father Nigeria
had come from purely Nigerian roots, and when a Nigerian exposed to American culture attempted
to explain his name, he automatically reacted

The On The Kuban Stele And From The Great Dedicatory...
The Eulogies to Ramesses II on the Kuban stele and from the Great Dedicatory Inscription of
Ramesses II tell us the king s relationship with the gods, and while the former, the Great
Dedicatory, appears to be more direct. Both eulogies still tell us of Ramesses II s relationship
through the use of metaphors, giving us the sense that there is a kinship between the gods and the
king, and how his is their representative, or earthly manifestation here on earth.
In the eulogy on the Kuban stele, we have a repetitive notion of how Ramesses II is view as one
of the gods, using metaphors to describe his relationship with specific gods. It is important to
make that Ramesses II is not being compared to any random gods, but he being compared or
rather being described to having the attributes of some of the most popular and powerful gods
within Egypt. Ramesses II is described as being like Re , his words are like those of Harakhte, he
is able to measure more accurately than Thoth and that his mind works just like Ptah s mind . What
is notable about these four gods, is that both Re and Harakhte are manifestations of the all important
Sun God of Egypt, Thoth is the wise patron of god of Hermopolis and Ptah is the patron god for
Memphis and Craftsmen; all in their own right gods of creation .
Later into the piece, we do get told that Ramesses II is indeed viewed as the earthly manifestation
of Re and Khepre (Khepre being yet another aspect of the Sun God), with his father being the

Lao Tzu Leadership Analysis
Lao Tzu is considered the Father of Taoism and was searching for an individual s path of natural
goodness. He once said Be the Chief, but never the lord. This quote has been very inspirational
to me throughout my Coast Guard career and has guided me to my definition of Leadership. A
lord is given this title by inheritance or positional power granted by landowners. A Chief is
chosen by the village. The person is selected to make the right decisions for the benefit of the
people. It is earned. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of leadershipis to
have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force given to them by
rank and expect subordinates to follow. They must demonstrate leading by example and be a role
model for others to follow.
Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I have seen my definition in my mentors and supervisors.
A short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd Reno,
Commander John Humpage, CWO4 William Thomas, and BMC Mike Hunt. Their leadership
seemed to naturally be in their personalities but I now realize it was so prominent because I saw
them as my leaders. Those traits are what made me choose to follow them.
Leadership Behaviors

Gentrification In Vancouver
There are various of reasons why gentrification is good for downtown in Vancouver. Downtown
in Vancouver was basically falling apart, the best thing for it is gentrification. Being one of the
oldest neighborhoods around, I believe it needs change. In the background essay about Vancouver

their neighborhoods change over time , this is basically telling us that Vancouver s downtown is
used on experiencing change , and that it s okay for a change due to people coming and going.
Another reason why I believe gentrification is good is because the citycould get rid of all the

Mexican Immigrants And Illegal Immigrants Essay
Current Issues
Many American citizens are responsible for illegal Mexican immigrants determination to enter the
United States because numerous American citizen s revenue money, drugs, and fame as a lifestyle
which makes America the center of attraction for illegal immigrants to cross the border. It is clear
that most Mexican immigrants transport an abundant amount of money payments and drugs across
the U.S. border in return for more money so gangs and cartels can earn a recognized status through
money and respect. Citizens of the U.S. have impacted and altered the American social economic
status in a negative way. Most Mexican immigrants travel north in groups to cross the United States
border to achieve their goal; live a better life so they can support themselves and their family.
Although there are U.S. customs and border patrol agencies that have a duty to protect and
secure the border from illegal aliens entering the U.S., some still successfully cross and enter the

The Charlotte Mecklenburg School System
Background: 1. The Charlotte Mecklenburg school system, which includes the city of
Charlotte, North Carolina, had more than 84,000 students in 107 schools in the 1968 1969
school year. Approximately 29% (24,000) of the pupils were Negro, about 14,000 of whom
attended 21 schools that were at least 99% Negro. 2. A desegregation plan was approved by the
District Court in 1965, at the commencement of this litigation. In 1968, petitioner Swann moved
for further relief based on Green v. County School Board, 391 U.S. 430, which required school
boards to come forward with a plan that promises realistically to work now, until it is clear that
state imposed segregation has been completely removed. 3. The District Court ordered the
school board in April 1969 to provide a plan for faculty and student desegregation. Finding the
board s submission unsatisfactory, the District Court appointed an expert to submit a
desegregation plan. 4. In February 1970, the expert and the board presented plans, and the court
adopted the board s plan, as modified, for the junior and senior high schools, and the expert s
proposed plan for the elementary schools. 5. The Court of Appeals affirmed the District Court s
order as to faculty desegregation and the secondary school plans, however vacated the order
respecting elementary schools, fearing that the provisions for pairing and grouping of elementary
schools would unreasonably burden the pupils and the board. 6. Till the case reached the Supreme

Medical Experiments During Ww2
Throughout WW2, the Nazis conducted many experiments on prisoners in the concentration
camps. The experiments were extremely brutal to the persons being experimented on. Many of
these doctors used their authority to justify the means of their research . There are various different
experiments that were conducted for supposed benefit to the German army. Experiments conducted
by Nazis were inhumane and traumatizing to those lucky enough to survive. Although the
experiments done on humans during WW2 were absurd, there are some factors that were
beneficial. Some of the data recorded by the Nazis is used in many scientists works today. For
example, Nazi hypothermia studies, for instance, have been cited in the medical literature for
decades, and recently several scientists have sought to use the data in their own work (Tyson).
Another compelling argument regarding the injustices done to the prisoners revolves around the
Nuremberg trials. After the war, the Nuremberg trials were held for the purpose of bringing Nazi
war criminals to justice (Nuremberg Trials). Laws were also made after the Holocaust to protect
human test subjects of future experiments. On the contrary to the dreadful things done to the
prisoners, few relevant points are presented as positive outcomes.... Show more content on

Commonly, doctors are thought of as the saviors of mankind, the healers, and caretakers of our utter
existence (Medical experiments...), suggesting that they are responsible for life and death of
patients. Trust is a crucial factor that must be present between doctor and patient. However, it is
denounced that The Nazi doctors violated the trust placed in them by humanity. The most painful
truth is for the most part the doctors escaped their crimes against humanity and lived a life, unlike
their victims (Medical experiments..), thus emphasizing the horrors that the nazi doctors put their

A Corporation, Which Is Sometimes Called C Corporation,
A Corporation, which is sometimes called C Corporation, is a group of company or an
independent legal entity owned by shareholders and authorized by state, with a separate and unique

forms due to the fact that it is costly to set up, involve corporate taxand legal requirement. They
offer the capacity to sell ownership shares in the company through stock and to the public through
initial public offering (IPO), which is the main selling point in pulling investment capital and high

countries such as United States, India and China and we are going to discuss all about it below.
The process of establishing corporation in the United Sates is easy and straightforward and the
basic requirements needed to establish corporation in the United States of America it involves the
following:
1.Ascertain a legal structure, which depends on the level of control one want to have, business
vulnerability to lawsuits and the financing needs. The type of legal entity chosen will determine the
additional registration requirement, that is, one may have to register with states and/or local
government after deciding on the legal structure and this consideration changes from state to state.

Advertising Influences And Growth Of Advertising
Advertising influences and growth
An industry that is growing and becoming more common around the globe is the advertising
industry. As this industry grows however there are insecurities and they are tracking people s
actions online and gaining an abundance of information on people. In game advertisements
appear on free games or applications that the user has on their phones and a valid solution to this
problem is in game rewards. The advertisement industry gets bigger each day and in game

This was greatly adapted in the 1950 s and has moved onwards, becoming more common in the
present. Subliminal advertising largely started in movie theaters, where in cinemas they would
strew messages saying drink Coca Cola (Sheehan, K. B. 2013). The drink Coca Cola was a phrase
that would appear on the screen during the start of the movies and during the intermission and it
would subconsciously impulse the viewer to buy Coca Cola from the food court. Coming into the
future this method is used in videogames where while playing you are met with company logos
upon starting the game and thereafter shown products from other companies that are placed within
the game. Some of the oldest advertisements that appear are from canned beverage companies and
now newcomers such as car companies are coming into play, all the while polluting our screens
with more subliminal advertising. The introduction of subliminal advertisements into video games
has become the next step for many companies taking advantage of a person getting engulfed in the
game screen in front of them. In relative concept, companies are taking advantage of the real estate
that is your television or your computer and even your mobile phone to get you to buy their
products.

The American Dream As A Good Life
For decades, the United States has embodied a sense of liberty and hope. Those who come to
America have the chance to fulfill their dreams, accumulate material wealth, and live a relatively
pleasant life. From the very beginning, the founding fathers claimed that it was our God given
right to pursue happiness and success. Success and happiness are only a few steps away from
those who put their heads down and work hard. This idea is commonly known as the American
Dream. Furthermore, many Christians today believe that they can achieve the American Dream
while still following the teachings of the Bible. God just wants us to be blessed with material
possessions and wealth and live a good life. However, a look at the Bible and the teachings of Jesus
reveals an exceedingly different view of how one should define a good life. While the American
Dream dictates a life of prosperity and individualist gain, Jesus commands a life of obedience and
self sacrifice. Thus, it is impossible to harmonize the ideas of the American dream with the
teachings of the Bible.
The American Dream has numerous definitions that people have ascribed to it over the years. In his
book titled Nine Great American Myths, Pat Apel gives his definition of the American Dream:
The American Dream is the multicolored tapestry comprised of the many myths and stories of
those who have come before us to create our own success story. It is the worldview comprised of
the myths and stories which have portrayed the

The castle itself also proved to have some magical presence to it, mainly because it was forged
by , Merlin, the wizard adviser of King Arthur. The castle served as headquarters for King Arthur
and his knights as well. A special hall held the Round Table, where Arthur and the knights would
plan their campaigns. The hall also contained lifelike statues of the twelve kings who had tried to
overthrow Arthur. All had been defeated by him and were buried at Camelot. Each statue had a
lighted candle. According to Merlin, the candles would stay lit until the Holy Grail the cup from
which Jesus drank at the Last Supper was found and brought to Camelot. It was from Camelot
that the knights rode out to perform good deeds and to search for the Holy Grail. (Camelot Vol.

C. Supporting Argument: Obama states that Race to the Top was the best improvement for
public schools in a generation. He also said that this idea was created by the Republicans and
Democratic and if they continue this approach, Race to the Top can replace No Child Left

meaningful reform of our public schools in a generation. For less than 1 percent of what we
spend on education each year, it has led over 40 states to raise their standards for teaching and
learning. And those standards were developed, by the way, not by Washington, but by the

He notes: The decade following the Civil War saw a division in the Church in the North. One point
of contention was missionary societies between Isaac Errett and Benjamin Franklin. The Louisville

restructuring however ultimately failed for lack of funds. The question of instrumental music was
asked in 1851, and the discussion broadened between 1864 1865 when W. K. Pendleton saw
instruments as mere expediency. Some, such as McGarvey and Moses E. Lard, stood fast in
opposing the use of instruments. Another conservative, Benjamin Franklin, said: Better is poor
singing where love is, than the grandest tones of the organ and hatred therewith. (Humble 60). In
1906 the Churches of Christ and the Christian Church were officially listed separately in the United

Academic Contributions Of Universities And Universities
After universities started to become successful corporations, they became part of the system of
the area. Professors were very high thought of like a knight was to its people. Professors took full
claim of their writings and ways of teachings using positions such as patrimonies and gaining
money any way they could through fees, bribes, and money lent to them by citizens. The rise of
colleges affected universities such as Paris, Oxford, and Cambridge. Colleges were originally
foundations that served as hostels for scholars who needed funding to go to a university. They were
soon used for academic lectures like a class at a university. Colleges grew very rich throughout the
areas that they were located in. Colleges controlled the teaching of liberal arts and became
institutions that aided to the sons of the privileged classes rather than the international community
of students. While the oldest universities were the casual gathering of scholars, universities were
deliberately founded to get political support from citizens to strengthen religion in areas of contact
with heretics or to increase the local and national status. The university movement was
predominately international in its upcoming years. Pope Clement started a movement that turned
the universities into national institutions which was a milestone that brought the corporations a
long way from famine on the streets of these vast cities that were once striving in architecture and

What Is The Value Of Life
Throughout our lives we are categorized into social classes, scrutinized and judged by others.
With the constant influences of others and society within our lives, it becomes hard to determine
our purpose in life and how our decisions will not only affect us but those around us. As stated in
the bible, Human life is a sacred essence, bequeathed to those who are made in the very image of
the creator himself (Genesis 1:26 27). The value of life is not determined by the materials that we
may contain or social status. It is what comes from within your heart; rather than being preoccupied
about what society thinks, we should be living to our fullest and making a difference within the
world for tomorrow may not be promised.
In today s day and age, many people have become self consumed rather than trying to make a good
impact in other s lives. As Albert Einsteinonce stated The value of a man should be seen in what
he gives and not what he is able to receive (Albert Einstein Quotes. BrainyQuote. Xplore, n.d.

Dopaminergic Observation
Though it is believed that the loss of dopaminergic innervation is the cardinal neurotransmitter
system involving in PD, other systems of innervation such as serotonergic, cholinergic and

Innocence And Maturation In Thomas Hart Benton s Persephone
Innocence and maturation are two key aspects of the human experience. The innocent mind allows
you to live with less doubt and worry but it leaves you vulnerable to manipulation and people
taking advantage of you. Thomas Hart Benton s Persephone portrays the myth of Persephone and
Hades. The Rape of Persephone goes as so; Zeusgives Persephone to Hadesto have as his wife.
Persephone is out and about and Hades takes her to the Underworld. A heartbroken Demeter,
goddess of harvest and agriculture, Persephone s mom, refuses to grow anything until Persephone
returns. Persephone is allowed back but Hades tricks her, making her unable to leave the
underworld permanently. Demeter compromises that Persephone can be in the Underworld part of
the year but that nothing will grow while her daughter is away, forcing Persephone s return and
creating the seasons. Taking a new turn on the ancient myth, Benton sets the painting in a rural
scene and illustrates a bare Persephone lying leisurely, surrounded by greenery with Hades and his
chariot lurking behind her. The juxtaposition between the foliage, Persephone s nude figure, and the
wrinkled Hades in the background creates an imbalance between maturation and sexuality with a
blithe young woman caught in the middle. Overall, Benton s Persephone accentuates the bliss of
naivete coinciding with the overwhelming malevolence and sexualization present in the world.
Initially, Benton s brush strokes dictate the movement of the piece, shaping the foliage around
Persephone in a nurturing and purposeful manner. I think this pulls Persephone towards the
viewer and draws more attention to her exposure and vulnerability. It also symbolizes Demeter s
protective nature and deep seeded love for her daughter. It feels as though the movement of the
plant life also creates a barrier of protection between the aloof and defenseless Persephone and the
wrinkled and perverted Hades. I believe this determines the importance of protecting the young and
naive, especially with an abundance of attention in this world leading to desensitivity, and later
sexualization. This reminds me of a speech Emma Watson made to the United Nations where she
details how the media began to sexualize her as early as

Racial Profiling And The American Civil Liberties Union Essay
Racial Profiling
The concept of racial profiling has its wide range of definitions. According to the American Civil
Liberties Union, racial profiling means the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of
targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or
national origin. In other words, racial profiling has its assumptions that particular individuals are
more likely to be involved in transgression or unlawful activities based on individual s race or
background. Racial profiling does not just exist today; it thrives and mostly propels a brutalizing
message and inhuman misconception to citizens of the United States whom they are pre judged by
the color of their skin. The primary cause of profiling is racism or race related discrimination.
Unfortunately, this unwarranted approach is now commonly used by law enforcement officers,
even though it could be both unjust and unconstitutional. Not only does it violate the core
principles of this country, but it can be dangerous and deadly because it threatens our privacy and
security. It is also a threat to racial equality, where many influential and prominent people have
fought for to accomplish. Although many heroic activist leaders have ended racial division to its
certain extent, yet many African Americans all over America still face the rigid unequal world
because of unjustifiable race related tragedies that tremendously affects African Americans.

Essay Heroes as Monsters in Vanity Fair
Yes, this is Vanity Fair, not a moral place certainly, nor a merry one, though very noisy. (Thackeray
xviii) It is here, in Vanity Fair that its most insidious resident, selfishness, veiled with alluring guises
has shrewdly thrived among its citizens, invading, without exception, even the most heroic
characters and living so unheeded that it has managed to breed monsters of them. There are those
in Vanity Fair, however, who have heeded the vicious selfishness, and, though not having lived
unaffected by it, were still able to point out its many evils. One such man is William Makepeace

Thackeray got the idea for his title from chapter twelve of John Bunyan s book titled Pilgrim s
Progress, published in 1678. In his book, Bunyan describes the journey of a boy, Christian, from
the City of Destruction, which symbolizes the secular world, to the Celestial City, which
symbolizes Heaven. One of the obstacles that Christian must endure on his way to the Celestial
City is his passage through the city of Vanity, where a fair, by the name of Vanity Fair is held. At
Vanity Fair everything sold or that comes there is meaningless. All sorts of merchandise are sold,
such as
houses, lands, businesses, places, honors, promotions, titles, countries, kingdoms, desires,
pleasures, and delights of all sorts such as prostitutes, brothels, wives., husbands, children,
masters, servants, lives, blood, bodies, souls, silver, gold, pearls, precious stones, and so forth
(Fuhrmann). I think Thackeray truly understood Bunyan s purpose with the Vanity Fair in
Pilgrim s Progress and was able to take it to a higher level by using specific examples of his time
to illustrate the truth of vanity s presence in people s everyday lives. While Bunyan s ultimate goal
may have been to show how vanity keeps us from focusing on God, Thackeray, although I don t
think his intention was quite that, did see what Bunyan was able to see in society: autotheism.

Theme Of Sexism In King Kong

Genre Film Essay
Sexism in King Kong Sexism that occurs in modern cinema today is typically added with intent;
done for the purpose of the movie, as if to set the time of the movie. Sexism can make the
audience feel quite strange and uneasy about a movie, and can greatly affect how the audience
perceives it. Older genre films that include ideals regarding sexism may not have been done for
the purpose of setting the scene of the movie, but rather sexism was incorporated in the script
without a second guess, mostly because of the way society was shaped and normed during that
time period. An example of sexism generated in a film that is derived by the influence of society
is in Merian Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack s King Kong (1933); the basis of the entire movie is
off of sexist idealism. In this film, sexism rides with the plot of the story, for the basic final goal
is men trying to save the female. There are numerous scenes in the film in which a male character
is speaking towards a female in a demeaning tone. Sexism as a general term is discrimination on the
basis of a person s gender. At the beginning of the film, a director, Carl Denham, is on a quest
searching for the perfect actress to star in his documentary. His idea for the documentary is going
on an adventure to search for King Kong, and then to capture him on tape. Denham argues that he
absolutely must find a woman specifically to be a part of his film, but only because of her

The notion of inclusion is progressively being accepted as a vital method of learning in our growing

to be included in a general education classroom. Students with learning, social and behavioral
exceptionalities or varied abilities deserve the right to be provided with the same opportunities as
any other students in the regular general education classroom. The information that I have acquired

Both children with and without exceptionalities learn with and from each other. Also, since both
children with and without exceptionalities are expected to learn to write, read, and do math; higher
expectations can be set and with good instruction children with exceptionalities can excel in these
academic skills.
I also believe that a key element of inclusion is maintaining a close relationship between me and the
special education teachers and paraprofessionals that I will be working with. If it is at all possible
to work together in one classroom, I believe that this will benefit all my students.
I hope to embrace all parts of every student and include all different types of learners as I create
my future classroom. As future and hopeful elementary education teacher I want to give every child
the opportunity to be a part of my classroom.
A Plan to Identify Social, Emotional, and Academic needs
The first part in having a successful inclusive classroom is to identify the social, emotional and
academic needs of all students and meet them. The first thing I would do is to review the student
file to see what has been done or not done in the past. This will give any indication if past needs
or behaviors have been identified or if they have just started. Collecting data will be important here
because I will need a complete and clear picture of students strengths and challenges, so that

official government of France at the time, any Frenchmen who were to speak out against the
government were to be seen as heretical, and even charged with treason, under the dictatorial
Hitler regime. Luckily for the people of France, there was such a man who decided to fight for a
free France. Charles de Gaulle is the reason that France, following a complete overthrow by a
dictatorial world power, once again became one of the most powerful and prestigious countries in
the entire world. De Gaulle wanted, and pushed for, France to become a strong empire, a rebuild of
the national economy, a reconstruction of the broken nation, and to establish a stronger executive
power in the government.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amongst these varying opinions, there is one strong argument that can be made by nearly all
historians: Charles de Gaulle has the legacy of being the single most polarizing individual in
French history. While there were large amounts of people who believed in him, and saw him as
the savior of the country, there were others who saw him as an attempt at a dictator. Most authors
agree that the military principals that he put forward were largely important in the outcome of the
blitzkrieg of the Germans, and that overall as a military figure he was more than exceptional.
However, as a president, political figure, and diplomat, he is not praised so

Essay about The Imporance of Polymers Today
A polymer is a large molecule consisting of many smaller subunits known as monomers. There
are different types of polymers and many uses for all of them. Even though people may not
realize it polymers play an essential role in our everyday life. For polymers range from plastics,
PVC, and Styrofoam to key structures in the human body like DNA and proteins which are key
components to the human body that makes it possible for each of us to live and be unique. So
with out polymers in our body we would be dead, and with out them in our society it would be a
drastically changed for the worse to say the least
Polymers are also commonly referred to as plastics so now you can put in to perspective how much
we use polymers. You can also realize... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ON the other hand if it is properly recycled we are able to reuse the same plastic over and over again
for long periods of time while at the same time keeping a low production cost This is why plastic
is cheap even though it contains oil a very high priced item, for as long as people do their best to
not waste plastic and recycle it there really is not a need to waste our precious oil and manufacture
more of it.
Polymers effect every ones life almost every day allowing us to make many valuable items that
can help make our lives easier including plastic, PVC, and shellac there are also natural
polymers that we benefit from such as rubber and amber. Polymers are truly a great and very
beneficial item to everyone for they are tough, durable, and cheap but they are also recyclable
which can be very beneficial to our environment and societal needs. The only negative effect is
when it is not properly disposed but this is really the users fault not the actual item its self
Though polymers are a very beneficial thing now, but In the future I believe that at the very best
that they will only hold the same value to society. I say this because polymers are not a very
complicated item and it would be difficult to better this technology in a drastic way. The only
further advancements I see are people discovering ways to make polymers stronger, more durable
and better suited for extreme and

Personal Narrative-The Banshee
The Banshee First of all I just want to say, no judging, oh and I know what you are thinking, it s,
just get to the point! Isn t it, well too bad, because I might be talking about, let s say, dogs eating
tacos, and suddenly tell you a story about the one time my cousin made the best taco I had ever
tasted, just like that, anyway, here we go. I was getting ready to start my normal day, in my
normal job, as a normal 11 year old kid, in a not so normal school, then again, no school really
has anything normal about it. But anyway, the point is, I was getting ready to comb my hair,
which is what any normal person does after their shower, when it happened... make sure you re
ready for this... are you sure... are you sure you re sure?...

My Hawaii Culture
I am the kind of person who believes that experiencing unity, positivity, love and passion are
crucial. Although our nation strives to be united, it is apparent that there are many situations
where we are divided. However, in Hawaii, I am finding that these types of experiences are easily
attainable. It s Saturday, May 10, 2014, and I have just arrived in Waikiki, Hawaiifor my Make a
Wish. Everyone is chanting, singing, praising, and just appearing together as one. My goal for the
week is to learn more about the culture, its traditions, and its people. Hawaii is a place with an
incredible history and culture, much different from mine. That is why I have so much interest in
this culture. The luaus, the food, and the overall environment is what is drawing me in, and are
some of the more intriguing aspects of the Hawaiian culture. One of the main events we are
attending is the luau. A luau is a Hawaiian feast or party that is typically accompanied by dancing,
chanting, and entertainment. Upon our arrival, standing by the entrance is a Polynesian man
and woman who are eager to greet my family. They have provided us with leis, necklaces with
flowers or ferns, that we are to wear around the neck. The luau began with a large feast of kalua
pig, poi, Hawaiian sweet potatoes, fish, chicken long rice, lomilomi salmon, squid, and various
types of tropical fruits. An imu is an underground oven where the meat is cooked, which is how the
type of pig being served at the luau has been

The Life of Peter: Idealism vs. Realism
When asking a child what they want to be when the grow up, they will most likely tell you a
doctor, teacher or some other public service occupation. They have the ideal that a career helping
people is the best job a person could have. When those same kids get into high school their ideals
become even greater (this really only applies to middle upper class). They want to be artist,
musicians, actors, or free lance writers who travel the world for the next big story. In college the
ideals of the student are usually pushed to the back burner so that there is room for reality. Peter s
character in the movie Office Space is an example of the ultimate idealist. Throughout the movie we
are shown his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The job was not too hard for him and paid decent money (but as an idealist it was not money Peter
was after). For a realist money is usually the driving force in a person choosing a career. Finding
the American Dream is no easy task when it comes to one s profession. How many people do
you know who are truly working at a job they love? After being hypnotized occupational therapist
Peter has a revelation that he does still have the ability to change the control his job has on him.
Instead of finding a new job that might have some meaning or interest to him, he decides to turn
his cubicle job into his ideal job by showing up when he feels like it and wearing whatever he
wants. Understand that to Peter the ideal job is none at all. Although the idea seems great Peter
does still have a small ounce of reality that doesn t allow him to quit his job so instead he goes to
work on his own schedule and with his own agenda.
Peter has a rotten girlfriend in the movie. She could be the mascot for the realist as Peter is the
idealist. The girlfriend doesn t understand the internal conflict s Peter is going through so she
makes him go to a therapist. Instead of supporting or even try to understand Peter when he doesn t
show up to work one Saturday she yells at him. Everyone in Peter s life seems to know about his
girlfriend s cheating as well. Peter though as the true idealist thinks that everything will work out
and they will be together forever. The

  • 2. The Alaskan Way Viaduct Essay The Alaskan Way Viaduct is connected to State Route 99 and is located on the Elliot Bay downtown waterfront in Seattle, King County, Washington. It is a two level structure of reinforced concrete that runs for about two miles. The Viaduct was designed by the City of Seattle Engineering Department and the WashingtonDepartment of Highways, Bridge Division, and is owned by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The viaduct was built between 1949 and 1966 and was the first double decker to be built in Washington. The viaduct gave a direct connection through downtown Seattleand the industrial areas to the south. When it was built, it had the ability to carry over one hundred thousand vehicles per day. The viaduct would add 44 percent to the effective width of Alaskan Way while deducting less than 5 percent for the strips to be occupied by support columns. (HAER). The construction was completed in five phases so it would be less disruptive and so that the funding for each section would be secured. The total cost for the initial three sections and the tunnel, including the right of way, design and administration was $10,627,006. Approximately half of the funding ($5,860,625) came from the City of Seattle, with the remainder from the Washington State Motor Vehicle Fund ($2,459,783) and the Federal Public Roads Administration ($2,306,608). (HAER). A web page I found titled Viaduct Beginnings stated, The first phase, from Battery Street to Pike Street below the Pike Place Market, was the most difficult, and was built between December 1949 and July 1951. Even before this was completed, construction began on the second section, from Pike Street to King Street, and finished in August 1952. The third section began in November 1951 but was not completed until April 1953 because of a nationwide steel strike. These three sections, extending from Battery Street to Railroad Way/S. Dearborn Street were opened to traffic on April 4, 1953, three and a half years after construction began. The two ramps at the south end near Railroad Way S. served as the southern terminus of the project until the connection to S. Spokane Street was completed in 1960. The Battery ... • 5. The Effect Of Osmosis On The Rate Of Osmosis The reasoning behind this experiment is the examine whether the rate of osmosis is changed due to a change in temperature. It was hypothesized that the rate of osmosis will increase as the temperature of the sucrose is increased. The rate of osmosis was tested by using the different jars full of different temperate water and testing how high the water rose on an osmometer over a span of 20 minutes. An osmometer is a tool used to measure rates of osmosis. The different temperatures tested on a sucrose solution were 5 degrees Celsius, 20 degrees Celsius, and 37 degrees Celsius. Rates of osmosis were higher in the hot water than in the cold water and control. The results showed that the rate of osmosis increased as the temperatureincreased, henceforth the hypothesis was supported. In conclusion, the experiment showed how changes in temperature affect the rate of osmosis. Introduction: Osmosis is a process in which molecules in a solvent pass across a semipermeable membrane into a more concentrated solution from a less concentrated one, attempting to make both sides isotonic or equal to each other. Isotonic can also be described as an equilibrium, where there is no net movement of the molecules. Osmosis is relevant in everyday life whether the general population is aware of it or not. It could be as simple as sitting in the pool too long and getting pruney fingers or as complex as a cholera infection in the intestinal cells that does not allow the intestinal cells ... He is wealthy and well known. Keating is However a liar and a cheat. Keating has Roark do his work and presents it as his own. In court the prosecutor asks, Mr. Keating, will you state under oath whether you designed the project ascribed to you, known as Cortlandt Homes? the passage states Keating answering, no. I didn t. ( The Fountainhead, 510).This shows he lied and cheated. He lied to society about the project given to him. He cheated by using Roark s design. Keating is selfish yet, selfless. He does anything society tells him and even abandons his true love (Catherine Halsey) and marries Dominique for his image. Dominique impresses many people and is described as beautiful and graceful. • 7. Philosophy On Justice Justice is a moral as well as a political concept. The meaning of Justice varies from one political thinker to another. The Oxford English Dictionary defines a just person as one who typically does what is morally right and is disposed to giving everyone his or her due. Philosophers, both modern and medieval, went beyond etymology and dictionary meanings to understand the right meaning of justice. The nature of justice as both a moral virtue of character and a desirable quality of political society, as well as how it applies to ethical and social decision making were the most important topics that were studied by the philosophers. Most of the philosophers had their own theories of justice on various social issues such as civil disobedience, punishment, equal opportunity for women, slavery, war, property rights, and international relations. Just like Newton s third law of motions every action has an equal and opposite reaction , justice ensures that every unlawful or unjust actions are met with such reactions that there is a balance in the society and everyone gets the merit they deserve. According to me, justice is an universal and absolute concept. Laws, principles, rules, religion are just some ways of explaining the concept, with results that sometimes go against the entire concept of what true justice is. Justice is also derived when everyone in the society has a mutual agreement over equality and the absence of bias. John Rawls once remarked, Justice is the first virtue of social institutions, as truth is of systems of thought. Justice is the concept of cardinal virtues, of which it is one. • 8. The Second Restatement Of Conflicts Of Law A forum applies its own choice of law approach. So here North Montana will apply the Second Restatement of Conflicts of Laws as the state follows that approach. Under the Second Restatement, three main steps need to be considered: 1) whether the conflict is procedural or substantive, 2) whether a choice of law provision in a contract should be applied, and 3) the application of a choice of law rule. Here, it appears that the choice of law provision selecting Old York should be applied because none of the exceptions to the general rule apply. I.Procedural vs. Substantive Law The first step under the Second Restatement approach is to determine whether a rule is rule is procedural or substantive. If a rule is procedural than a forum will apply its own law. Courts determine whether a law is substantive based on whether a section of the restatement classifies it as substantive. Section 193 of the Second Restatement governs the validity of insurance contracts. Here, the question is about the validity of a provision in an insurance contract, thus the Second Restatement classifies this dispute as substantive, not procedural. II.Choice of Law Provision The second step under the Second Restatement is to consider any choice of law provisions within the contract at issue. Here, the insurance contract has a choice of law provision that states [t]his agreement is governed by the law of Old York. Under Section 187 of the Second Restatement, choice of law provisions are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Amidst the furore instigated by the Swiss minaret referendum in 2009 (Migration Policy Institute, 2009), former French president Nicolas Sarkozy voiced his sympathy and his understanding for the collective decision to ban the construction of more minarets within Switzerland through an article titled Respecter ceux qui arrivent, respecter ceux qui accueillent (Sarkozy, 2009b). Sarkozy s article first appeared in the December 8th publication of Le Monde a French daily newspaper in 2009, and was subsequently edited and translated by The Guardian, an English news agency based in the United Kingdom (Sarkozy, 2009a). • 11. Macromolecules Of Carbohydrates Background and Carbohydrates How are macromolecule polymers assembled from monomers? How are they broken down? To assemble a macromolecule polymer from monomers, the monomers must bond. This is a process known as a dehydration reaction, in which a water molecule is lost to form the bond. When this process occurs, each of the two bonded monomers provides part of the water molecule that was lost in the dehydration reaction: one contributes a hydroxyl group and the other a hydrogen. Dehydration reaction can take place over and over again, losing a water molecule every time, and forming a chain of monomers: a macromolecule. These macromolecules are disassembled by hydrolysis. This process is the inverse of a dehydration reaction: the covalent bond between the monomers is broken when water is added, a hydrogen attaching to one monomer and a hydroxyl group attaching to the other. How can you tell a biological molecule is a carbohydrate? Carbohydrates are sugars that contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen in a 1:2:1 ratio. They can be used for storage, structure, and energy. An example is glucose, with chemical formula C6H12O6. Explain the relationship between monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. All three are carbohydrates. Monosaccharides are the simplest carbohydrates and are classified as simple sugars with molecular formulas that are multiples of CH2O. Disaccharides are two monosaccharides bonded by a glycosidic linkage (a covalent bond formed by dehydration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Health Outcomes Of The World Health More than a century ago, the first health outcome measure was proposed by Florence Nightingale by classifying patients into relieved, unrelieved and dead (1). Other guides such as mortality rates have historically been used to measure health outcomes at a population level (2). However, the definition of health has changed in the past century to include a wider view of outcomes which includes freedom from disease, ability to perform daily activities, happiness, social and emotional well being, and quality of life. The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined health as physical, mental, and social well being, and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity (3). As a result numerous measures have been developed in an attempt to quantify health. Health outcome measures are tools used to evaluate an individuals health using different health related parameters. Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) are instruments that are completed by patients and capture one or more aspects of health (4, 5). The use of PROMs formally to monitor surgical outcomes in England has been an important development (6). Since 2007, the Department of Health has required the routine measurement of patient reported health outcomes for all NHS patients via its PROMs programme (5, 6). PROMs are increasingly used in decision making to encourage a patient centered approach (5, 7). For this reason, PROMs must be valid, reliable, and clinically useful measures. The Origin Of Syrian Heritage The very origin of Syrian heritage is dominated by foreign empires Assyrians, British, Egyptians, French, Hittites, Macedonian Greeks, Mongols, Persians, Romans, and Turks. The power of the aforementioned foreign empires greatly influenced the development of Syria. Just in the last three hundred and fifty years, the political rule in Syriahas shifted several different times from the Ottomans to the Assyrians, from the Assyrians to the British and French, from the British and French to the Baath Party, from the Baath Party to the United Arab Republic, and from the United Arab Republic to the rule of Assad. The Syrian economy in the sixteenth century was mainly supported by agriculture and military pursuits, while advances in the nineteenth century allowed for an economic growth boosted by energy and mineral resources electrical generation, mining, nuclear energy, and oil and natural gas and industry and manufacturing. During the last five centuries, Syria has been occupied by Christians (Catholic, Orthodox, and others), Druze, Jews, Kurds, Shia Muslims (Alawis, Ismailis, and others), Sunni Muslim Arabs, and Yazidis. What would happen if all of that was taken away? And not just by another country, but by our own people. Our own government took our rights and belongings away overnight. What would people do? On February 19 of 1942, the president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt, signed an evacuation order, ordering the evacuation of all persons deemed a threat to national security from the West Coast to relocation centers further inland ( ). Meaning anyone who looked like they were of japanese descent, was considered a threat to the security of the United States. The racism towards the japanese people was in the way they were looked at, how they lived in the camps, and how they were treated. On December 7, 1941 there was a tragic attack on an American military base in Hawaii, called Pearl Harbor. It was led by the japanese empire. This is what started it all, with the racism of the different ethnic groups towards to japanese people. Each time fellow Americans saw someone of japanese descent, it brought up memories of this day in history. The emotions it stirred up the pain and loss, created anger and hatred towards each of these people. The people of America were scared. Background British Petroleum was founded in 1908 and since then has rapidly grown to become the eighth largest company in the world . The US Chemical Safety Board stated that there is a solid case for citing some fault on cost cutting in the Texas City disaster. In fact was BP aggressively cut maintenance investment in their refinery by 84% between the years 1992 2000 . Additionally BP lacked many company wide safety standards and left the decision making to plant managers, a position which had a high turnover rate . Cost cutting was eventually handed down to the employees in the form of a hazardous work place, with 15 deaths and over 170 others injured in the Texas City explosion. Stakeholder Snapshot: Society BP s negligence and lackluster response to the Prudhoe Bay oil spill caused damage to the surrounding environment and forced a spike in oil prices, drawing intense criticism and scrutiny from the Federal government and the American public. BP s handling of the cleanup has raised serious questions about the concern the company has for the environment. Five months following the accident, 17,000 gallons of crude oil remained to be drained from the surrounding areas of the pipeline . Following the accident, BP has faced pressure from the Justice Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Congress due to the environmental damage. • 17. Analysis Of The Short Story Where Did You Get That Name What defines the cause that ultimately depicts our take on life? On the surface, people typically see gender as a definable matter, but fail to consider the variations that exist. Stories provide examples of infectious reasons one views the world as they do. One s identity influences the authenticity of a situation presented, maturity affects how one contributes to foul behavior, and those reflecting a wide variety of experiences are more adaptable to foreign circumstances. The background of an individual determines their approach and consideration of situations. The short storyWhere Did You Get That Name? , by Baratunde Thurston, demonstrates this precisely, when Baratunde, a young Nigerian boy, finds himself explaining the origin of his name to who he refers to as Father Nigeria, saying I got it from my parents (Thurston3), only for the interrogation to continue and the man to dismiss his explanation and ruthlessly assume that Baratunde [had] no history, no culture, no roots...[and] decided to indict, judge and reject all of African America. (Thurston3). Father Nigeria , being marinated in the Nigerian Culture all his life, immediately questioned Baratunde s authenticity. Because Baratunde was only partially Nigerian, this man reverted to his culturally defensive mentality, and undermined Baratunde s identity. The Eulogies to Ramesses II on the Kuban stele and from the Great Dedicatory Inscription of Ramesses II tell us the king s relationship with the gods, and while the former, the Great Dedicatory, appears to be more direct. Both eulogies still tell us of Ramesses II s relationship through the use of metaphors, giving us the sense that there is a kinship between the gods and the king, and how his is their representative, or earthly manifestation here on earth. In the eulogy on the Kuban stele, we have a repetitive notion of how Ramesses II is view as one of the gods, using metaphors to describe his relationship with specific gods. It is important to make that Ramesses II is not being compared to any random gods, but he being compared or rather being described to having the attributes of some of the most popular and powerful gods within Egypt. Ramesses II is described as being like Re , his words are like those of Harakhte, he is able to measure more accurately than Thoth and that his mind works just like Ptah s mind . What is notable about these four gods, is that both Re and Harakhte are manifestations of the all important Sun God of Egypt, Thoth is the wise patron of god of Hermopolis and Ptah is the patron god for Memphis and Craftsmen; all in their own right gods of creation . • 20. Lao Tzu Leadership Analysis Lao Tzu is considered the Father of Taoism and was searching for an individual s path of natural goodness. He once said Be the Chief, but never the lord. This quote has been very inspirational to me throughout my Coast Guard career and has guided me to my definition of Leadership. A lord is given this title by inheritance or positional power granted by landowners. A Chief is chosen by the village. The person is selected to make the right decisions for the benefit of the people. It is earned. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of leadershipis to have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force given to them by rank and expect subordinates to follow. They must demonstrate leading by example and be a role model for others to follow. Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I have seen my definition in my mentors and supervisors. A short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd Reno, Commander John Humpage, CWO4 William Thomas, and BMC Mike Hunt. Their leadership seemed to naturally be in their personalities but I now realize it was so prominent because I saw them as my leaders. Those traits are what made me choose to follow them. Approximately 29% (24,000) of the pupils were Negro, about 14,000 of whom attended 21 schools that were at least 99% Negro. 2. A desegregation plan was approved by the District Court in 1965, at the commencement of this litigation. In 1968, petitioner Swann moved for further relief based on Green v. County School Board, 391 U.S. 430, which required school boards to come forward with a plan that promises realistically to work now, until it is clear that state imposed segregation has been completely removed. 3. The District Court ordered the school board in April 1969 to provide a plan for faculty and student desegregation. Finding the board s submission unsatisfactory, the District Court appointed an expert to submit a desegregation plan. 4. In February 1970, the expert and the board presented plans, and the court adopted the board s plan, as modified, for the junior and senior high schools, and the expert s proposed plan for the elementary schools. 5. The Court of Appeals affirmed the District Court s order as to faculty desegregation and the secondary school plans, however vacated the order respecting elementary schools, fearing that the provisions for pairing and grouping of elementary schools would unreasonably burden the pupils and the board. 6. The experiments were extremely brutal to the persons being experimented on. Many of these doctors used their authority to justify the means of their research . There are various different experiments that were conducted for supposed benefit to the German army. Experiments conducted by Nazis were inhumane and traumatizing to those lucky enough to survive. Although the experiments done on humans during WW2 were absurd, there are some factors that were beneficial. Some of the data recorded by the Nazis is used in many scientists works today. For example, Nazi hypothermia studies, for instance, have been cited in the medical literature for decades, and recently several scientists have sought to use the data in their own work (Tyson). Another compelling argument regarding the injustices done to the prisoners revolves around the Nuremberg trials. After the war, the Nuremberg trials were held for the purpose of bringing Nazi war criminals to justice (Nuremberg Trials). Laws were also made after the Holocaust to protect human test subjects of future experiments. Those who come to America have the chance to fulfill their dreams, accumulate material wealth, and live a relatively pleasant life. From the very beginning, the founding fathers claimed that it was our God given right to pursue happiness and success. Success and happiness are only a few steps away from those who put their heads down and work hard. This idea is commonly known as the American Dream. Furthermore, many Christians today believe that they can achieve the American Dream while still following the teachings of the Bible. God just wants us to be blessed with material possessions and wealth and live a good life. However, a look at the Bible and the teachings of Jesus reveals an exceedingly different view of how one should define a good life. While the American Dream dictates a life of prosperity and individualist gain, Jesus commands a life of obedience and self sacrifice. Thus, it is impossible to harmonize the ideas of the American dream with the teachings of the Bible. The American Dream has numerous definitions that people have ascribed to it over the years. In his book titled Nine Great American Myths, Pat Apel gives his definition of the American Dream: The American Dream is the multicolored tapestry comprised of the many myths and stories of those who have come before us to create our own success story. With the constant influences of others and society within our lives, it becomes hard to determine our purpose in life and how our decisions will not only affect us but those around us. As stated in the bible, Human life is a sacred essence, bequeathed to those who are made in the very image of the creator himself (Genesis 1:26 27). The value of life is not determined by the materials that we may contain or social status. It is what comes from within your heart; rather than being preoccupied about what society thinks, we should be living to our fullest and making a difference within the world for tomorrow may not be promised. In today s day and age, many people have become self consumed rather than trying to make a good impact in other s lives. • 35. Innocence And Maturation In Thomas Hart Benton s Persephone Innocence and maturation are two key aspects of the human experience. The innocent mind allows you to live with less doubt and worry but it leaves you vulnerable to manipulation and people taking advantage of you. Thomas Hart Benton s Persephone portrays the myth of Persephone and Hades. The Rape of Persephone goes as so; Zeusgives Persephone to Hadesto have as his wife. Persephone is out and about and Hades takes her to the Underworld. A heartbroken Demeter, goddess of harvest and agriculture, Persephone s mom, refuses to grow anything until Persephone returns. Persephone is allowed back but Hades tricks her, making her unable to leave the underworld permanently. Demeter compromises that Persephone can be in the Underworld part of the year but that nothing will grow while her daughter is away, forcing Persephone s return and creating the seasons. Taking a new turn on the ancient myth, Benton sets the painting in a rural scene and illustrates a bare Persephone lying leisurely, surrounded by greenery with Hades and his chariot lurking behind her. The juxtaposition between the foliage, Persephone s nude figure, and the wrinkled Hades in the background creates an imbalance between maturation and sexuality with a blithe young woman caught in the middle. Overall, Benton s Persephone accentuates the bliss of naivete coinciding with the overwhelming malevolence and sexualization present in the world. Initially, Benton s brush strokes dictate the movement of the piece, shaping the foliage around Persephone in a nurturing and purposeful manner. I think this pulls Persephone towards the viewer and draws more attention to her exposure and vulnerability. It also symbolizes Demeter s protective nature and deep seeded love for her daughter. It feels as though the movement of the plant life also creates a barrier of protection between the aloof and defenseless Persephone and the wrinkled and perverted Hades. I believe this determines the importance of protecting the young and naive, especially with an abundance of attention in this world leading to desensitivity, and later sexualization. This reminds me of a speech Emma Watson made to the United Nations where she details how the media began to sexualize her as early as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the American Civil Liberties Union, racial profiling means the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin. In other words, racial profiling has its assumptions that particular individuals are more likely to be involved in transgression or unlawful activities based on individual s race or background. Racial profiling does not just exist today; it thrives and mostly propels a brutalizing message and inhuman misconception to citizens of the United States whom they are pre judged by the color of their skin. The primary cause of profiling is racism or race related discrimination. Unfortunately, this unwarranted approach is now commonly used by law enforcement officers, even though it could be both unjust and unconstitutional. Not only does it violate the core principles of this country, but it can be dangerous and deadly because it threatens our privacy and security. It is also a threat to racial equality, where many influential and prominent people have fought for to accomplish. There are those in Vanity Fair, however, who have heeded the vicious selfishness, and, though not having lived unaffected by it, were still able to point out its many evils. One of the obstacles that Christian must endure on his way to the Celestial City is his passage through the city of Vanity, where a fair, by the name of Vanity Fair is held. Theme Of Sexism In King Kong Henna Maiwand FTVE 205 Loden Genre Film Essay Sexism in King Kong Sexism that occurs in modern cinema today is typically added with intent; done for the purpose of the movie, as if to set the time of the movie. Sexism can make the audience feel quite strange and uneasy about a movie, and can greatly affect how the audience perceives it. Older genre films that include ideals regarding sexism may not have been done for the purpose of setting the scene of the movie, but rather sexism was incorporated in the script without a second guess, mostly because of the way society was shaped and normed during that time period. An example of sexism generated in a film that is derived by the influence of society is in Merian Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack s King Kong (1933); the basis of the entire movie is off of sexist idealism. In this film, sexism rides with the plot of the story, for the basic final goal is men trying to save the female. Students with learning, social and behavioral exceptionalities or varied abilities deserve the right to be provided with the same opportunities as any other students in the regular general education classroom. The information that I have acquired through my own experiences (in my observations and my classes) have molded my goals as a future teacher. I believe that teaching and education are fundamental in getting students to grow, learn, and flourish; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both children with and without exceptionalities learn with and from each other. Also, since both children with and without exceptionalities are expected to learn to write, read, and do math; higher expectations can be set and with good instruction children with exceptionalities can excel in these academic skills. I also believe that a key element of inclusion is maintaining a close relationship between me and the special education teachers and paraprofessionals that I will be working with. If it is at all possible to work together in one classroom, I believe that this will benefit all my students. I hope to embrace all parts of every student and include all different types of learners as I create my future classroom. As future and hopeful elementary education teacher I want to give every child the opportunity to be a part of my classroom. A Plan to Identify Social, Emotional, and Academic needs The first part in having a successful inclusive classroom is to identify the social, emotional and academic needs of all students and meet them. The first thing I would do is to review the student file to see what has been done or not done in the past. This will give any indication if past needs or behaviors have been identified or if they have just started. Collecting data will be important here because I will need a complete and clear picture of students strengths and challenges, so that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Charles De Gaulle Following World War II, it was quite clear that France was in need of political assistance. After the French defeat, the occupation of Nazis forced the government to either ally with the enemy, or to be destroyed from the inside out. The government, run by PГ©tain, decided to ally with the Nazi invaders, which established what is known as the Vichy government. Seeing as this was the official government of France at the time, any Frenchmen who were to speak out against the government were to be seen as heretical, and even charged with treason, under the dictatorial Hitler regime. Luckily for the people of France, there was such a man who decided to fight for a free France. Charles de Gaulle is the reason that France, following a complete overthrow by a dictatorial world power, once again became one of the most powerful and prestigious countries in the entire world. De Gaulle wanted, and pushed for, France to become a strong empire, a rebuild of the national economy, a reconstruction of the broken nation, and to establish a stronger executive power in the government.... Amongst these varying opinions, there is one strong argument that can be made by nearly all historians: Charles de Gaulle has the legacy of being the single most polarizing individual in French history. While there were large amounts of people who believed in him, and saw him as the savior of the country, there were others who saw him as an attempt at a dictator. Most authors agree that the military principals that he put forward were largely important in the outcome of the blitzkrieg of the Germans, and that overall as a military figure he was more than exceptional. However, as a president, political figure, and diplomat, he is not praised so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Essay about The Imporance of Polymers Today A polymer is a large molecule consisting of many smaller subunits known as monomers. There are different types of polymers and many uses for all of them. Even though people may not realize it polymers play an essential role in our everyday life. For polymers range from plastics, PVC, and Styrofoam to key structures in the human body like DNA and proteins which are key components to the human body that makes it possible for each of us to live and be unique. So with out polymers in our body we would be dead, and with out them in our society it would be a drastically changed for the worse to say the least Polymers are also commonly referred to as plastics so now you can put in to perspective how much we use polymers. You can also realize... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ON the other hand if it is properly recycled we are able to reuse the same plastic over and over again for long periods of time while at the same time keeping a low production cost This is why plastic is cheap even though it contains oil a very high priced item, for as long as people do their best to not waste plastic and recycle it there really is not a need to waste our precious oil and manufacture more of it. Polymers effect every ones life almost every day allowing us to make many valuable items that can help make our lives easier including plastic, PVC, and shellac there are also natural polymers that we benefit from such as rubber and amber. Polymers are truly a great and very beneficial item to everyone for they are tough, durable, and cheap but they are also recyclable which can be very beneficial to our environment and societal needs. The only negative effect is when it is not properly disposed but this is really the users fault not the actual item its self Though polymers are a very beneficial thing now, but In the future I believe that at the very best that they will only hold the same value to society. I say this because polymers are not a very complicated item and it would be difficult to better this technology in a drastic way. The only further advancements I see are people discovering ways to make polymers stronger, more durable and better suited for extreme and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. My Hawaii Culture I am the kind of person who believes that experiencing unity, positivity, love and passion are crucial. Although our nation strives to be united, it is apparent that there are many situations where we are divided. However, in Hawaii, I am finding that these types of experiences are easily attainable. It s Saturday, May 10, 2014, and I have just arrived in Waikiki, Hawaiifor my Make a Wish. Everyone is chanting, singing, praising, and just appearing together as one. My goal for the week is to learn more about the culture, its traditions, and its people. Hawaii is a place with an incredible history and culture, much different from mine. That is why I have so much interest in this culture. The luaus, the food, and the overall environment is what is drawing me in, and are some of the more intriguing aspects of the Hawaiian culture. One of the main events we are attending is the luau. A luau is a Hawaiian feast or party that is typically accompanied by dancing, chanting, and entertainment. Upon our arrival, standing by the entrance is a Polynesian man and woman who are eager to greet my family. They have provided us with leis, necklaces with flowers or ferns, that we are to wear around the neck. The luau began with a large feast of kalua pig, poi, Hawaiian sweet potatoes, fish, chicken long rice, lomilomi salmon, squid, and various types of tropical fruits. An imu is an underground oven where the meat is cooked, which is how the type of pig being served at the luau has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They want to be artist, musicians, actors, or free lance writers who travel the world for the next big story. In college the ideals of the student are usually pushed to the back burner so that there is room for reality. Peter s character in the movie Office Space is an example of the ultimate idealist. After being hypnotized occupational therapist Peter has a revelation that he does still have the ability to change the control his job has on him. Understand that to Peter the ideal job is none at all. Although the idea seems great Peter does still have a small ounce of reality that doesn t allow him to quit his job so instead he goes to work on his own schedule and with his own agenda. Peter has a rotten girlfriend in the movie. She could be the mascot for the realist as Peter is the idealist.
