Technology and E commerce in Perspective
 First, the Internet and Web are just two of a long list of technologies, such as automobiles and radio,
that have followed a similar historical path:
Creation of business models designed to leverage the technology and explosive early growth, followed
by retrenchment and then a long term successful exploitation of the technology by larger established
firms
 Second, although e commerce has grown explosively, eventually its growth will cap as it confronts
its own fundamental limitations.
Potential Limitations on the Growth of B2C E commerce
 Expensive technology (although currently a limitation, may become less so as prices of entry level

 Complex software interface (Integration with television may reduce this)
 Sophisticated skill set (this limitation may recede as PC operating system evolves, becomes more

The Birth Of Napster To The Death Of Privacy Essays
The Birth of Napster To The Death of Privacy
One of the most debated issues before our society is the issue of internet privacy. Privacy is such a
valued concept that in today s world we pay good money in order to keep intruders out of our
computer systems and out of our lives. Peer to Peer downloading is a major factor to the internet
privacy issue. Peer to Peer downloading (also known as file sharing ) is considered by Microsoft to be
the act of making files on one computer accessible to others on a network. The original use of file
sharing was simply meant for users to send files to one another. It has now become one of the biggest
dilemmas of our modern society. Does the government have the right to search your private files ...

The way Napster worked is by searching other peers shared files. Let s say that someone was
searching for any song by the band Metallica, the search would report back what is available to be
downloaded. Once you double click on that first mp3 that you would like to download, you officially
become fair game for the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). After the birth of
Napster, there was an explosion of programs that tried to leech off their fame. The next big thing
comes when a new and more efficient program to share files emerges. During 2002, a program called
BitTorrent arises. This program revolutionized peer to peer downloading for many reasons. First and
foremost, because of the percentage of broadband users, downloading a music file has become an
extremely quick and painless task. Using Napster with a phone line connection, it would take an
average of half an hour to download one song. With BitTorrent and the increase of broadband users, it
takes a matter of minutes (if even) to download the entire album. But why is BitTorrent so successful?
BitTorrent s successfulness is attributed to the method users share their files. Instead of downloading
the file from one user, BitTorrent breaks up the file into thousands of pieces and takes a part of the file
from each user that is willing to share it. For example, let s say that there are 10 other peers
downloading the T.V. show Lost, 11

Mattress Target Audience
Customer profile / target market
For the development of the smart bed mattress the target audience will be pretty broad. The mattress is
a product that can be used by people of any age or gender or religious preference, etc. However the
target audience to purchase will be anyone over the age of 18 as they are more likely to have the
financial ability to make such a purchase. It would also be directed at the middle class and higher as
this will not be a bottom of the line mattress. Geographical area is unimportant as the mattress can be
shipped to a customer s home by online purchase. In the beginning there would most likely only be a
single location for a customer to actually see and feel the mattress. Hopefully, the mattress will ...

Mattress Firm is the leading mattress company in the line of business with more than 3,500 stores in

Mattress Firm is brand loyalty and they have a proven track record of growth. The weakness is that
they do not offer a mattress like the smart bed mattress . Sleep Number is in a distant second with a
market share of 7.8% with 488 stores. Sleep Number does have the advantage of having a
technologically driven company and as of September 2016 is offering the ItBed, which offers even
more personalization than its other mattresses all while coming shipped in a small convenient box.
The ItBed is filled with air pockets, which I feel is a weakness due to the fact that these air pockets
can burst and then you have a broken mattress. Sears is a well known company that is in almost every

they are just a distributor of other mattress companies. However, Sears does have brand loyalty and

help with multiple blood drives and lead tours around the campus every week. But the most important
skill I ve picked up in my short time at New Market is how to control and budget your money, which I

Themes In A Visit From The Goon Squad
It is said that a man can never walk into the same river twice, not because the river is changing that
after all is inevitable but because the man will never be the same man as he once was. Time, like a
river flows in a set direction and once past no amount of nostalgia is capable of reversing its course.
Just as it is impossible to reverse the passage of time, it is impossible to retain a past identity. Jennifer
Egan s novel, a Visit from the Goon Squad, is a collection of short stories that each have a distinct
voice and style. Although each chapter can stand alone, they are bound together by thematic elements
and a complex web of relationships centered around Bennie Salazar a music executive and his
assistant Sasha. In this passage Egan s fifth narrator, Jocelyn, a recovering drug addict and a childhood
friend of Bennie Salazar, returns to the Los Angeles home of her teenage love interest, Lou,a man old
enough to be her father who drove her into adapting the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle. With
Lou on his deathbed, the now forty three year old Jocelyn reunites with Rhea, another high school
friend, and ponders the impact that time has had on their lives. This passage suggests the
destructiveness of time on characters and relationships. Using setting, word choice, and
personification Egan presents time as truly being a goon.
To start, Egan employs setting to reveal the separation time has created between characters and the
characters and their former

Descriptive Essay About A Cat Show
I went to the cat show hosted by the Santa Monica Cat Club on October 7, 2017 at the Pomona
Fairplex. I always wanted to go to a cat show so I was curious about the one offered by the Santa
Monica Cat Club. I did not know what to expect at all. I am used to seeing what dog shows look like
on TV. The overall environment was relaxing and everyone was relatively calm. At the entrance, I was
given a colorful pamphlet with the cat breeds that were participating in the show.
I was surprised when I entered the building. There were so many cat breeds but the overall location
felt pretty small probably because they do not need as much space as dogs. I went to every cat that
was present in their cat carrier. Some of them were not there because they were being shown on stage.
I wondered if they ever felt stressed being around so many people for long hours. They probably get
used to it after competing at different shows. The breeders seemed pretty nice and they were willing to
let me pet their cats and to tell me more about their breeds.
There were so many cats I could not keep track of their names, awards, and breeds. The breeds that
really stood out to me were the Toygers, Abyssinians, Sphynxs, Persians, and the American Shorthairs.
At the time I did not know as many cat breeds, but I am happy that I learned some before going
because it made the experience that more meaningful. I was too distracted to look at the breed
pamphlet since there were so many cats and I was very fascinated

Essay on tipping
Tipping Experiences
Tips are generally a small amount of money given to a person as gratitude for a service that has been
provided. There are many times throughout our everyday lives in which we are put in a position to
leave a gratuity. Whether it be dining at a restaurant, getting your hair cut at the salon, or having a few
drinks with friends at a bar. In each case there was a service provided to you, now you have a decision
to make, how much of a tip is considered acceptable and should you tip everyone that provides a
service to you? There are many guidelines for consumers to follow. With modern technology there are
convenient tip calculators available as features on most new cellular phones. When deciding on the tip

Tips are accepted not expected not always the case. In certain restaurants management will
automatically generate a 18% gratuity when there are larger parties being served. In a recent article on
the 1010 wins.com website ( tip dispute leads to arrests at soprano s )the reporter tells of a story where
people actually got arrested because they refused to pay the mandatory 18% tip. At some point
consumers should have the right to draw the line when it comes to tipping. Michael Lewis says our
natural and admirable reluctance to enter into the spirit of the thing causes the thing to lose whatever
value it had in the first place (23). Tip amounts should not be mandated by the size of the party. A
gratuity should remain based upon the quality of the service that was provided.
Many people have lasting relationships with their salon technicians and other professionals such as a
favorite restaurant s staff, and the mechanic. For example when getting your hair cut or a manicure
you tend to stay loyal to one technician due to the fact that he or she does a wonderful job. Tips for
these people should be consistent and most importantly appropriate. If someone does an amazing job
for you every time you visit then they are deserving of a good tip. The holidays are a good time to be
generous with the people who served you satisfactorily all through the year.
In conclusion , tips have

Freudian Slip Essay
Introduction
Freudian slip theory was originally created by Sigmund Freud. He was an Austrian neurologist and
was better known as the founder of psychoanalysis (1856 1939). Psychoanalysis can be defined as a
set of psychological theories which includes the Freudian slip theory. He believed that everyone
possess an unconscious mind, feelings, desires and memories in their lifetime. It is to be said that
peoples will bring their unconscious content on their mind to their conscious awareness and people
will be able to experience catharsis and gain insight into their current state of mind. (Cherry, What is

Freud s theory of slips of the tongue and pen Sigmund Freud theory is formed based on peoples brings

Listeriosis
Listeriosis is a serious invasive disease that predominantly affects pregnant women, newborns and
immunocompromised adults. The causative organism, Listeria monocytogenes, is primarily
transmitted to humans through contaminated foods. Outbreaks of listeriosis have been reported
throughout the globe, most notably in North America, Europe and Japan.
The public health importance of listeriosis is not adequately recognized, especially since listeriosis is a
relatively rare disease compared with other common foodborne illnesses such as salmonellosis or
botulism. However, due to its severity and high case fatality rate, listeriosis ranks among the most
frequent causes of death due to foodborne illness second after salmonellosis.

The standout outbreak of listeriosis in the United States occurred in 2011, which was traced back to
contaminated cantaloupes that resulted in 142 hospitalizations and 33 deaths. From August 2008 to
December 2008, 22 people died in the 2008 Canadian listeriosis outbreak.
A wide range of food products have been associated with the transmission of listeriosis, primarily milk
and dairy products, meat products (cooked chicken, pate, rillettes, sausages, salami), vegetables
(coleslaw and rice salads, celery, alfalfa) and, in a lesser degree, fish products (smoked fish, shellfish,
shrimp). Generally, these foods have extended shelf life, do not require further cooking and support
the growth of the bacterium.
Listeria monocytogenes most frequently associated with listeriosis cases belong to serotypes 1/2a,
1/2b, and 4b. Epidemiological monitoring studies employ different genotyping techniques, with pulse
field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) as the golden standard due to its discrimination and reproducibility

Human Trafficking And The Exploitation Of Humans
When most individuals think of slavery, whips, chains, and manual labor come to mind. In today s
society, slavery is defined in a slightly different way. Yet still the same basic principle of a single
individual being under complete and total control of another stands strong. Sometimes control is
shown on a more psychological level than a physically abusive one that was in the past. Nonetheless,
slave owners still possess total control. Human trafficking is the term used today rather than slavery,
although the two terms can be used in a somewhat synonyms. Humans are renewable commodities.
They can be bought and sold exponentially (Helton.) That is exactly the mindset that a trafficker
possesses. They do not see human beings as exactly that; to a trafficker they are simply pieces in their
business. Whether that business is sex trafficking and the exploitation of humans for the purpose of
sexual endeavors, or the work force. Trafficking of human beings is a serious issue facing the world
today. Modern day slavery is something that gets brushed under the rug because of the alarming fact,
no one knows exactly how to stop it. Humans are forced to work because they have no money.
Humans are tricked or cohered into situations of exploitation from which they cannot escape
(Gallagher.) Once a trafficker lends a few dollars and a job to the hurting individual or family, they are
then forever indebted to the trafficker. So and the vicious never ending cycle begins. Traffickers

People who have backyards tend to take a great amount of time deciding what to do with all the extra
space in their yards. One good investment is to cultivate a backyard garden. However, deciding on
what to grow in it is another decision. This article will help you choose what type of garden to grow in
your backyard.

natural beauty of your backyard. When it is well planned, you can have a backyard that is blooming

Vegetables do not have the most attractive flowers to attract birds, bees and butterflies. To make sure
that these pollinators find your vegetable plants, have flowers with high nectar content planted along
side flowering vegetables. This will attract more pollinators that will pollinate both the flowers and the
vegetables in your backyard garden. Flowers that have shades of yellow, blue or white such as
sunflowers, cosmos and zinnias are ideal for attracting pollinators.
* For Attracting Beneficial Insects. If you are like most people nowadays, you will want to opt for
organic foods. This means that you want foods that are free from synthetic pesticides. Attracting
beneficial insects which kill insect pests is a more scientific and organic approach to getting rid of the
harmful ones. Insects such as ladybugs, praying mantis, and parasitic wasps are beneficial insects that
are attracted to certain flowers and herbs such as parsley and flowers from the aster

How Did George Soros Become Successful
George Soros is one of an exclusive group of elite investors that includes Warren Buffett, Carl Icahn,
Peter Lynch, William J. O Neil, and Jack Bogle. He is a self made billionaire with an estimated net
worth of $24.9 billion, which ranks him as the 15th wealthiest person in the U.S. and the 23rd
wealthiest person in the world. Soros overcame major obstacles during his teenage years to become
one of the most successful businessmen in the world, and he has been able to use his wealth to fight
for causes he believes in and influence U.S. politics. Soros was born in Hungary to a middle class
Jewish family in 1930. Because of the political climate at the time, his parents did what they could to
hide their Jewish roots and even changed their family name from Schwartz to the native Hungarian
name Soros. As a young teenager, he would survive the Nazi occupation of his country in the early
1940s, then in 1947, he would flee the Communist domination of his country with his family to

What Are The Ethical Issues In The Movie Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler (Gilroy, 2014) is about a young man, Lou Bloom who begins a career in L.A. crime
journalism. He does many bizarre and unethical things, and really just goes too far to become
successful in the industry. Throughout the movie, we see how today s news and television culture will
go as far as they have to for publicity. From the camera man doing whatever it takes to get a good
shot, to the news companies paying top dollar for a film, in the end it s all about getting publicity and
money.

American in the 1790s-1850s Socially, Politically, and...
AAmerica began as a small struggling nation, with each citizen desiring an opportunistic way of life.
To achieve this way of life, many changes needed to be made. Different people with distinctive ideas
came together, and although there was conflict, they made great changes politically, socially, and
economically. Each aspect changed America tremendously in a variety of ways. Analyzing each
specific change can determine the extent in which America has changed for better or for worse.

Then came about the Era of Good Feelings which was the period in which the disappearance of the
Federalists enabled the Republicans to govern in a spirit of seemingly nonpartisan harmony. The
diplomatic achievements of the Era or Good Feelings were due almost entirely to the efforts of John
Quincy Adams, Monroe s secretary of state. During the election of 1824 John Quincy Adams was
against Andrew Jackson, Jackson had more electoral and popular votes but Adams won the election.
Adams won because neither candidate had an electoral majority, leaving it up to the House of
Representatives to decide. Adams only served for one term, there was no question about the fact
Jackson was going to win the next election and he did. The election of 1828 was the first to
demonstrate the power and effectiveness of the new popular democratic culture and party system. The
Democrat party was formed under the leadership of Andrew Jackson; favoring states rights and a
limited role for the federal government.
The Second American Party System was between the Democrats and the Whigs. The Whigs were
organized to oppose Andrew Jackson in the early 1830s. The Whigs were the heir to Federalism,
favoring a strong national government in the economy like the American System and supported active
social reform. Its power was in the North and Old Northwest, voters who would benefit from

Lab Report On Enzyme Activity
The purpose of this lab is to observe the catalase found in liver cells by measuring how temperature,
pH and enzyme concentrations affect the reaction rates of enzymes.
Background
Enzymes are considered to be biological catalysts meaning they can speed up a chemical reaction in a
cell without being used up in the process. Enzymes do this by lowering the amount of energy needed
to activate the process. The lower the activation energy, the faster the reaction. Without enzymes, vital
life processes would occur very slowly which could be deadly.
Different enzymes are used depending on the chemical process. Some enzymes break down harmful,
poisonous chemicals in our bodies into harmless substances. In this lab, the enzyme we tested was ...

The teacher informed me that she teaches ELL students using Scholastic books and a Scholastic app.
Additionally, the scholastic app is usually used to help students replace missing words in a sentence,
assist students with pronunciation, punctuation, comprehension. While I was observing her class, the
students would click on a word and the computer would pronounce the word for them. This is a really
good way for students to learn how to pronounce words accurately. I also observed her using several
strategies to facilitate these students understanding of English as a second language, for instance, she
mentioned one strategy for capital letters you step on gas and another for periods you brake . Another
strategy that she uses when teaching them to write sentences is Mr. Space , which is the size of a
Popsicle stick, and it allows the students to put appropriate spaces between each of their words. The
students are required to take a test at the end of the year to measure their progress. Students are

The Tempest Critical Analysis
The Tempest is about an ousted Duke of Milan ,Prospero, who has been living in exile on a remote
island for the past twelve years with his daughter Miranda. He is a powerful magician, who happens to
be the master of Ariel and Caliban, and a guy who really likes his books. When Prospero s enemies
wash up on shore, he uses his black magic to seek revenge and restore himself to power. The Tempest
belongs to the genre of Elizabethan romance plays. It combines elements of tragedy with those of
romantic comedy, and like one of Shakespeare s plays previously, it asks deeper questions that are not
completely resolved at the end. The tone that seeps into the play is one of wonder, amazement, and
admiration. Mystery is still present , but the magic performed is not black and scary. The version that
seems to grasp my attention more, would have to be the Utah Valley University interpretation because
it takes Shakespeare s main purpose and tone but shows it in its own unique way. Furthermore, with
its silly drunkards, the play has a certain lightness to it and even the so called killers of the King tell
hilarious jokes and are lighthearted. But there is also the tone of revenge and reconciliation in the play.
We feel a revenge burning in Prospero while, at the same time, a wish for forgiveness and
reconciliation with those who have wronged him.
The Balinese production has a magical and mystical tone and is all caused by the effects the director
decided to use to help make the tone

For centuries, chariots have been a useful resource in early civilizations. It is defined as a two wheeled
vehicle pulled behind horses to travel from one place to another. The development of a chariot
originated in Mesopotamia before 3000 B.C. and it started to receive widespread attention. During this
civilization, hill dwellers from north of Mesopotamia were sophisticated people because they created
the chariot with good intentions. However, the use of chariots declined rapidly when new tactics were
developed for warlike purposes. Although there are several deficiencies in chariots, it largely
influenced ancient warfare politically, economically and socially.

Life gradually improved when people learned and discovered how to build a light maneuverable

The Galileo Controversy
The 17th century was full of challenges to the authority of the Catholic Church. Many of these
challenges were indirectly related to the Church s power, as they indicted the Church s teachings
rather than its authority. Those who disagreed with the Church formulated various theories that were
oppositional to those of the Church. In 1609,
Galileo made a revolutionary discovery. He utilized a telescope to gaze into the night sky, and found
that the sun was located at the center of the solar system. Furthermore, he found that the planets
revolved around the sun. These findings were against popular belief and that of the Church. Galileo

that he did not believe that the same God who has given senses, reason and intellect has intended for

opposed his alleged heresy in the letter. The weakness in this evidence is that it defends Galileo s

Church. Even if this letter were a perfect source, it would still not be able to show that Galileo was not

When I decided to use reading as my research topic, I thought I could take on the whole concept of
reading, but I soon learned that reading is a complex subject that has many methods. According to the
International Reading Association, A reading method is a set of teaching and learning materials and /
or activities often given a label, such as phonics method, literature based method, or language
experience method ( Using Multiple Methods ).
This definition shows that many practices for reading can be called reading method. From the
aforementioned reading methods definition and from doing a small amount of research, I decided I
would narrow the focus of my research paper to the reading methods of whole language and phonics. I
chose to focus on the concepts of whole language and phonics because for many years they have been
among the most popular reading methods and because of the ongoing debate surrounding which
method is better than the other a debate which has caused a constant push pull trend in these methods.
For a while it will pull towards whole language, but then the trend switches to focus on phonics (the
current trend). After more research on the concepts of whole language and phonics, I came to believe
that this debate between methods the debate between whole language and phonics is an artificial
dilemma, and isn t really about one method or the other when both methods could be combined.

Essay on Racism and Interracial Marriage in Othello
Racism and Interracial Marriage in Othello
Othello: The Moor of Venice is probably Shakespeare s most controversial play. Throughout this
work, there is a clear theme of racism, a racism that has become commonplace in Venetian society
which rejects the marriage of Othello and Desdemona as anathema. The text expresses racism
throughout the play within the language transaction of the dialogue to question the societal ethos
established by Othello, thereby making him nothing less than a cultural other. Furthermore, the
character of Desdemona is displayed as mad, or out of her wits, for marrying such an other, and the
audience sees her slip from an angelic state of purity to that of a tainted character. Also, the menacing

If one believes that miscegenation is a taboo currently manifested within the play then he/she will see
how Iago was acting as a representative of society a synecdoche responsible for pointing out that
something has gone wrong with a hidden purpose or motive that was the locus for his actions. Iago is
the antithetical character of Shakespeare s creation. He is the catalyst of all the destructive happenings
within the play starting from the very beginning of the play when he and Roderigo approach the
residence of Brabantio, Desdemona s father, in Act 1 scene 1. He uses racist language to appeal to the
senator s traditional beliefs, including such phrases as Even now, now, very now, an old black ram / Is

notion, perhaps it would be more pragmatic to aim for a well balanced and a just society. Maybe we
can never achieve a perfect society, because we, people, who make up the society as a whole, are
undeniably faulty. As the first president of Czechoslovakia, Tomas Garriguemasaryk lucidly
admonished, Democracy has its faults, because people have their faults. Like owner, like store. This
saying applies for a society as well. Not only because of the fact that democracy plays a big part in a
society, but because a society can t be perfect as a whole if the group of people making it up is also not
perfect. In concurrence to building a well improved society, i am going to address certain ... Show

A rule of law should govern people and pave a clear path for us to follow. According to an old English
philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, this world be in complete chaos and unorganized without a rule of law.
Without a law system, there would be no system to follow and everyone would just be doing whatever
they feel without considering the consequences that it could bring. We could only hope that this law
system would be used fairly where no man is above law and that no one escapes it just because they
are more powerful or have higher authority. Everyone should be exercising the same rights stipulated
in the law in order for a society to be

Ferrari Competitive Advantage
Ferrari has a celebrated history of producing exceptional automobiles both on the road and on the
racetrack. (Aloian, 1) Ferrari has been making cars since 1929 and has still been making cars since.
They are one of the nicest car brands out there. Ferrari makes all kinds of cars from SUV s to
expensive supercars. Like any market for anything there is going to be competition. Ferrari s
competition is Lamborghini. But Ferrari is the superior car brand because it is the best car for the cost,
Ferrari has set the bar for modern car brands, and they have better race history.
The first reason Ferrari is the superior car brand is because the cost is the best for the reliability and
maintenance of the car. In an article made by a man who bought ... Show more content on

When Ferrari first started making cars they were a lot different than all of the other car brands. They
were doing their own thing. At first people thought that what they were doing was weird and that the
cars wouldn t turn out good. But little did they know. In a book all about Ferrari they talk about some
of their older models, they truly were doing their own thing. But that was what Ferrari was best at,
doing things their own way. (Ferrari) Ferrari was the master of making something that most likely
wouldn t work and making a masterpiece. Most of Ferrari s cars were beautifully made cars they just
did what they did the best they could and it was amazing the way they did it. From making cars that
should have front engines back engines to making cars look so beautiful it is just amazing the way that
they did it. Furthermore, Ferrari seems to always come out with amazing new cars every year. One of
the newest models is the 812 Superfast. This isn t just any ordinary car they have done extensive
research and testing to make this car truly the best in its class. On their website they state some details
about the car. On this occasion, intensive research and development focused on exploiting Ferrari s
wealth of track derived engineering know how has produced the 812 Superfast, designed to offer its
drivers both benchmark performance across the board and the most riveting and rewarding driving
experience possible. (The Fastest and Most Powerful Ferrari Yet) What really sets Ferrari aside from
other car brands is the way that they make their cars. They spend time on every individual car to test it
and make sure that it lives up to its standards. The last reason why they have set the ar for many
modern car brands is because a lot of other car brands will use Ferrari engines. They make their
engines with care and with so much pride, and it really

The Basilica Of Rome
QUINTUS OCTAVIUS exited his litter, having just traversed the winding streets and narrow avenues
of the Aventine, and hurried up the steps of the Basilica Julia. He had just concluded some business
for his client Lollius Capito, leasing out some empty warehouses to a Sicilian merchant, whilst selling
the deed of another to a vintner from Antium, liquidating some of Capito s vacant properties. It was
late afternoon and the Forum was bustling, for it was business as usual here in the great city of Rome;
Octavius scarcely arrived at the proposed hour of his appointment for all the pedestrian hubbub and
cart traffic afoot. Rome is ever the center of commerce and trade in the Empire, he thought wryly.
Alexandria is but a small time metropolis compared to our fabulous Eternal City! Octavius had other
important business to transact today, but under the roof and ample porticoes of the Basilica Julia, the
greatest courthouse in Rome. He strode into the Great Hall of the Basilica on his way to meet a friend,
another lawyer, and one who had some titillating information to relay. He politely pushed his way past
knots of loitering equestrians and toga clad patricians, making his way to the second floor where the
light streamed abundantly through the windows of the upper clerestory. It was there he was to meet an
old friend and former associate. Octavius found him amid an audience of very respectable men,
listening to the strong lunged orator pleading before one of the four tribunals

Job Stress And Occupational Stress Essay
Introduction Job stress is known as stress at work or the occupational stress. It occurs when there is a
discrepancy between the demands of the workplace and that of individual s (Tsutsumi et al., 2009).
Job stress, also known as occupational stress, has been defined as the experience of negative
emotional states such as frustration, worry, anxiety and depression attributed to work related factors
(Kyriacou, 2001). Occupational stress can be defined as the harmful physical and emotional responses
that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the
worker. Job stress can lead to poor health and even injury. The concept of Occupational stress is often
confused with challenge, but these concepts are not the same. Challenge energizes us psychologically
and physically, and it motivates us to learn new skills and master our Occupations. When a challenge
is met, we feel relaxed and satisfied (NIOSH, 1999). The Indian Economy is characterized by the
existence of a vast majority of informal or unorganized labour employment. As per the Economic
Survey 2007 08, 93% of Indian workforce are self employed and employed in the unorganized sector.
The Ministry of Labour, Government of India, has categorized this unorganized workforce in four
groups in terms of their occupation, their nature of employment, specially distressed categories and
service categories. a. In the category of their Occupation: Small and marginal agriculturer,

Essay on Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer was a poet, a writer, and of course a diplomat. Geoffrey Chaucer was born in the
early hours of 1340s to John Chaucer, a vintner and assistant to the king s butler. As a boy, he was a
leaf to the Countess of Ulster. (Lombardi) Chaucer was the most famous for writing his unfinished
Canterbury tales. (Geoffrey Chaucer) He was born in London, only problem is, the exact date and
place are unknown. From his writings Chaucer emerges as poet of love, both worldly and heavenly.
No information exists about his early education, although without a doubt he would have been as good
in French as in the Middle English of his time. (Bio.True Story) Chaucer pops up in the record books
in 1357 he was working for the queen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people collected the sixteenth century editions of Chaucer s Works. He set the goal line for all
other English authors, including, presentation, quality and success of actually printing. (Geoffrey
Chaucer) When these versions of his poems were printed, that was the time where Geoffrey Chaucer
truly became famous.(Geoffrey Chaucer) It was in Chaucer s final phase, which he gained his
popularity, The Canterbury Tales (written mostly after 1387). The Canterbury Tales was an unfinished
poem. Being his most successful, it consists of 17000 lines. It was one of the most unsullied works in
all literature. (Info Please) The Canterbury Tales is a collection of stories written in Middle English.
As a group of pilgrims travels to the shrine of Saint Thomas they decide to tell stories to each other on
the way. In a huge list of poems and stories, the Canterbury Tales is Chaucer s most important and
visual, and a stacking achievement of western culture and Old English times. While writing the
Canterbury tales he use the characters and their lifestyles to create irony and every day events.
Describing what the old English church was really like. (Geoffrey Chaucer) The Canterbury Tales
were written in Middle English, in the old days, the tone was equivalent to London type style.
Although there was never an official copy of the Canterbury tales, Adam Pankhurst made sure that

Miner Narrative
Title of story Everything was bad until they came. Then everything turned even worse. They wore of
red and black, soldier color. Their horses galloping without rest, soldier horses. These bad boys would
kick you until you stop breathing. Well this is new, I said to myself. Citizens! one shouted, Your
presence is requested at the royal palace of the king. The villagers started whispering all the sudden.
Last time soldiers came, nine people went missing including 3 children. I deeply didn t care about this
because I spent 23 hours a day working in the mines. I m a miner hence the name Miner. Everyone of
the village must come or face death, another soldier said. This actually change my point of view, I had

Only royal road was only for nobles or messengers. The village walked all day only stopping for four
hours everyday. The king obviously wanted to rush us there for something important. I didn t think too
much of it because all I did was look at the sky all day. She was my only friend. As days pass by, so
did the villagers spirit. They had never liked this trek in the first place. Their bleeding feet told without
words. One even started begging the soldiers. The soldier didn t give her anything, but he did give
meat for the wolves. This kingdom is ruled by fear, I thought to myself. More days have passed and
more bodies have fallen, seven in total. All were just peasants trying to make a living. The village let
out a heavy sigh when we finally reach the castle. It was sturdy castle, but definitely outdated. Any
nation in the world can destroy it in a few days. All around the castle were slaves picking apples in
cruel conditions. It was actually better than some jobs like farmer. They had enough food and could
always rely on shelter. The funny thing was that they tried not to look at us. That s when I realize they
were actually trying to hide their faces. Something was wrong here and only one person was to blame,

Discuss the Minority Presence in Contemporary British Art...
Minority Presence in Contemporary British Art
Highly visible yet evasively mute.
Art critic Kobena Mercer, comments on the current position of African and Asian artists in
Contemporary British Art, when he suggests that minority artists are seen and not heard. This
oxymoronic position derives from a long historical legacy of European colonization and the emphasis
on racial inferiority and otherness. On the one hand, British art is progressive, allowing some minority
art in the general art world. Yet on the other hand minority art is still marginalized by the preferential
treatment given to white artists. There is a strong degree of accuracy in Mercer s statement because
while minority art can now be seen, the voice is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The yBa movement is said to establish new ideas of Britishness in a postmodern world. Yet, Mercer
goes so far as to say that the movement is in part a reaction to the attempt to globalize the British art
world: At this stage it is precisely the discrepancy between parochial yBa inwardness and the art world
internatialism that obliges us to interrogate the ideology of New British Art as a defensive, and, above
all, regressive response to the bewildering effects of globalization The important art (as seen by
Saatchi and The Tate) returns to a concern with British identity that fails to comment on how diversity
has changed that identity. By turning inward as a reaction to globalization, British art regresses and
fuels a return to white dominance. As a result, multicultural art lacking Western referents become
suppressed.
While there are movements to prevent this subordination of multiculturalism, their range of influence
is limited. The Institute of International Visual Arts (inIva) was founded in 1994 and its major goal is
to bring artists from culturally diverse backgrounds to the attention of mainstream British culture.
However, while their success has been praised on a global level, locally they are largely overlooked.
The major art insitutions refuse to recognize artists whose thematic concentration does not

Haverwood Furniture
The household wood furniture industry is healthy and growing. Total industry sales in 2007 were
estimated to be $31 billion at manufactures prices. Three categories of furniture divide the industry.
First upholstered furniture which makes up 50% of sales, Secondly wood furniture at 40% of the
industry market share which has grown 2.5% in 2007 and is projected another 4% in 2008, this second
category includes dining room and bedroom furniture. Third and last is the other category at 10% this

The biggest challenge that they face as a company is they do not have the room the increase
expenditure by such a vast amount. Currently there is $3,675,000 in promotional dollars allocated as
follows; sales and administration expense (995,000), cooperative advertising programs with retailers
(1,650,000), consumer advertising (562,000) and trade promotion (467,000). adding the $225,000
increase in consumer advertising will not allow the 5% of expected sales for total promo expenditures.
John Bott, the vice president of sales disagreed with the budget allocation and noted that sales
expenses and administration cost were projected to be $65,000 in 2008. This led him to believe that an
additional sales representative would be needed to service company accounts because 50 were being
added. Therefore he estimated this addition would cost at least $70,000 including salary and expenses
in 2008. Bott also stated that That s about $135,000 in additional sales expense that have to be added
to our promotional budget for 2008
My recommendation is that they do not invest the additional $225,000 in consumer advertising.
Considering the additional amount will only be going into magazines which do not provide enough
incentive for a purchase decision from the buyer. I believe that Haverwood should allocate the amount
50/50 and invest half

Essay on Mordecai Richler’s The Apprenticeship of Duddy...
Family Ties
We re one family and we should stick together, just like the Rockefellers. In our own small way, I
mean. As boy living on St. Urbain Street in the ghetto of Montreal, Duddy Kravitz, the main character
in Mordecai Richler s The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, is budding in a society where people
with wealth and power are highly respected. However, the complexity of a person s character, like
Duddy s, is influenced immeasurably through his family. The main three people who manipulate
Duddy, and also give insight into his character, are his grandfather Simcha Kravitz, his older brother
Lennie Kravitz, and his Uncle Benjy.
Wealth is what Duddy is led to strive for by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this backfires on Duddy because Yvette tells his grandfather all the evil things he has done
just to get land and gain his respect. Therefore, Simcha gets angry at Duddy even though it was all for
his benefit, and makes a comment about Duddy only using him as an excuse to clear his conscious.
Overall, Simcha helps to give insight into Duddy s scheming, deceptive, and mischievous character
because everything he does is for his grandfather s acceptance.
In contrast, Duddy s brother Lennie is the more accepted of the two brothers. Duddy always wants to
be as good as Lennie in his family s eyes, so he strives to make something of himself. This jealousy
surprisingly brings out the more selfless and responsible side in Duddy. Lennie is an intelligent boy
who makes it into medical school and is highly regarded in the family. Although Lennie is more
intelligent, he still falls into trouble and Duddy must save him. The problem is, Lennie performs an
illegitimate abortion and the abortion goes wrong, so a doctor is called in and finds out. Once this
happens Lennie flees town and no one knows where he is or how to find him, so Duddy takes on the
challenge. He finds everything out and brings Lennie home, he also convinces the girl s father not to
tell the school and saves Lennie s career. This is one of the most

Construction Of Construction Technology And Safety Essay
Since ancient times all the way to the present day there have been monumental advances in
construction technology and safety, from the techniques and methods of construction to the equipment
used in construction which wasn t revolutionized during the industrial revolution. The only constant
throughout all the aforementioned advancements is the use of scaffolding, from ancient times where
sockets in the walls around the Paleolithic cave paintings at Lascaux, the Berlin Foundry Cup depicts
scaffolding in ancient Greece (early 5th century BC), the ancient Egyptians, Nubians and Chinese are
also recorded as having used scaffolding like structures to build tall buildings. Early scaffolding was
made of wood and secured with rope knots. All the way to the present day where scaffolding has
enclosed and has been used to repair the dome of the Capital of the United States of America or even
The Statue of Libetry, construction workers around the world are using temporary work platforms
(scaffolds) to reach areas where work must be done which by any other means would be otherwise
unfeasible. Along with the advancements in construction technology and safety so has scaffolding
changed with the times, form the make up of the materials used, to the requirements demanded of the
builders in order for the scaffold to be deemed safe for use. This paper will discuss: Different types of
scaffolds that can be built and utilized for different tasks and the material they are made up of,

  • 6. The Birth Of Napster To The Death Of Privacy Essays The Birth of Napster To The Death of Privacy One of the most debated issues before our society is the issue of internet privacy. Privacy is such a valued concept that in today s world we pay good money in order to keep intruders out of our computer systems and out of our lives. Peer to Peer downloading is a major factor to the internet privacy issue. Peer to Peer downloading (also known as file sharing ) is considered by Microsoft to be the act of making files on one computer accessible to others on a network. The original use of file sharing was simply meant for users to send files to one another. It has now become one of the biggest dilemmas of our modern society. Does the government have the right to search your private files ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way Napster worked is by searching other peers shared files. Let s say that someone was searching for any song by the band Metallica, the search would report back what is available to be downloaded. Once you double click on that first mp3 that you would like to download, you officially become fair game for the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). After the birth of Napster, there was an explosion of programs that tried to leech off their fame. The next big thing comes when a new and more efficient program to share files emerges. During 2002, a program called BitTorrent arises. This program revolutionized peer to peer downloading for many reasons. First and foremost, because of the percentage of broadband users, downloading a music file has become an extremely quick and painless task. Using Napster with a phone line connection, it would take an average of half an hour to download one song. With BitTorrent and the increase of broadband users, it takes a matter of minutes (if even) to download the entire album. But why is BitTorrent so successful? BitTorrent s successfulness is attributed to the method users share their files. Instead of downloading the file from one user, BitTorrent breaks up the file into thousands of pieces and takes a part of the file from each user that is willing to share it. For example, let s say that there are 10 other peers downloading the T.V. show Lost, 11 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The mattress is a product that can be used by people of any age or gender or religious preference, etc. However the target audience to purchase will be anyone over the age of 18 as they are more likely to have the financial ability to make such a purchase. It would also be directed at the middle class and higher as this will not be a bottom of the line mattress. Geographical area is unimportant as the mattress can be shipped to a customer s home by online purchase. Mattress Firm is the leading mattress company in the line of business with more than 3,500 stores in 49 states. The market share for Mattress Firm is 25.2%, which is huge in this market. A strength for Mattress Firm is brand loyalty and they have a proven track record of growth. The weakness is that they do not offer a mattress like the smart bed mattress . Sleep Number is in a distant second with a market share of 7.8% with 488 stores. Sleep Number does have the advantage of having a technologically driven company and as of September 2016 is offering the ItBed, which offers even more personalization than its other mattresses all while coming shipped in a small convenient box. The ItBed is filled with air pockets, which I feel is a weakness due to the fact that these air pockets can burst and then you have a broken mattress. Sears is a well known company that is in almost every state and has an internet presence as well. Sears does not manufacture the mattresses that they sell as they are just a distributor of other mattress companies. However, Sears does have brand loyalty and has been in business for a very long time, which makes them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Themes In A Visit From The Goon Squad It is said that a man can never walk into the same river twice, not because the river is changing that after all is inevitable but because the man will never be the same man as he once was. Time, like a river flows in a set direction and once past no amount of nostalgia is capable of reversing its course. Just as it is impossible to reverse the passage of time, it is impossible to retain a past identity. Jennifer Egan s novel, a Visit from the Goon Squad, is a collection of short stories that each have a distinct voice and style. Although each chapter can stand alone, they are bound together by thematic elements and a complex web of relationships centered around Bennie Salazar a music executive and his assistant Sasha. In this passage Egan s fifth narrator, Jocelyn, a recovering drug addict and a childhood friend of Bennie Salazar, returns to the Los Angeles home of her teenage love interest, Lou,a man old enough to be her father who drove her into adapting the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle. With Lou on his deathbed, the now forty three year old Jocelyn reunites with Rhea, another high school friend, and ponders the impact that time has had on their lives. This passage suggests the destructiveness of time on characters and relationships. Using setting, word choice, and personification Egan presents time as truly being a goon. To start, Egan employs setting to reveal the separation time has created between characters and the characters and their former ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Descriptive Essay About A Cat Show I went to the cat show hosted by the Santa Monica Cat Club on October 7, 2017 at the Pomona Fairplex. I always wanted to go to a cat show so I was curious about the one offered by the Santa Monica Cat Club. I did not know what to expect at all. I am used to seeing what dog shows look like on TV. The overall environment was relaxing and everyone was relatively calm. At the entrance, I was given a colorful pamphlet with the cat breeds that were participating in the show. I was surprised when I entered the building. There were so many cat breeds but the overall location felt pretty small probably because they do not need as much space as dogs. I went to every cat that was present in their cat carrier. Some of them were not there because they were being shown on stage. I wondered if they ever felt stressed being around so many people for long hours. They probably get used to it after competing at different shows. The breeders seemed pretty nice and they were willing to let me pet their cats and to tell me more about their breeds. There were so many cats I could not keep track of their names, awards, and breeds. The breeds that really stood out to me were the Toygers, Abyssinians, Sphynxs, Persians, and the American Shorthairs. At the time I did not know as many cat breeds, but I am happy that I learned some before going because it made the experience that more meaningful. • 32. The Tempest Critical Analysis The Tempest is about an ousted Duke of Milan ,Prospero, who has been living in exile on a remote island for the past twelve years with his daughter Miranda. He is a powerful magician, who happens to be the master of Ariel and Caliban, and a guy who really likes his books. When Prospero s enemies wash up on shore, he uses his black magic to seek revenge and restore himself to power. The Tempest belongs to the genre of Elizabethan romance plays. It combines elements of tragedy with those of romantic comedy, and like one of Shakespeare s plays previously, it asks deeper questions that are not completely resolved at the end. The tone that seeps into the play is one of wonder, amazement, and admiration. Mystery is still present , but the magic performed is not black and scary. The version that seems to grasp my attention more, would have to be the Utah Valley University interpretation because it takes Shakespeare s main purpose and tone but shows it in its own unique way. Furthermore, with its silly drunkards, the play has a certain lightness to it and even the so called killers of the King tell hilarious jokes and are lighthearted. But there is also the tone of revenge and reconciliation in the play. We feel a revenge burning in Prospero while, at the same time, a wish for forgiveness and reconciliation with those who have wronged him. The Balinese production has a magical and mystical tone and is all caused by the effects the director decided to use to help make the tone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The development of a chariot originated in Mesopotamia before 3000 B.C. and it started to receive widespread attention. During this civilization, hill dwellers from north of Mesopotamia were sophisticated people because they created the chariot with good intentions. However, the use of chariots declined rapidly when new tactics were developed for warlike purposes. Although there are several deficiencies in chariots, it largely influenced ancient warfare politically, economically and socially. Chariots served as a great tool in a country. The promotion of a chariot received positive feedback from people because they found it fascinating. Many countries wanted chariots in their possession simultaneously, so this created job opportunities for people to produce them. It is very important for a person to have a job because they can earn money to support themselves and their family. According to Humphrey (2006), chariot makers used materials such as a hard, dense wood, little prone to cracking, for the hub: a straight, tough, inflexible timber for the spokes; and a straight grained, easily bent timber for the felloe (pg.135). Many of these challenges were indirectly related to the Church s power, as they indicted the Church s teachings rather than its authority. Those who disagreed with the Church formulated various theories that were oppositional to those of the Church. In 1609, Galileo made a revolutionary discovery. He utilized a telescope to gaze into the night sky, and found that the sun was located at the center of the solar system. Furthermore, he found that the planets revolved around the sun. These findings were against popular belief and that of the Church. Galileo promoted his theory of heliocentrism through various writings and conversations with individuals, but in 1633, ... However, upon a closer reading of this evidence, one finds that Galileo never opposed his alleged heresy in the letter. The weakness in this evidence is that it defends Galileo s beliefs, contending that they may be true, but never addresses how it interacts with the beliefs of the Church. Even if this letter were a perfect source, it would still not be able to show that Galileo was not a heretic because Galileo never rejects the fact that his belief was different from the belief of the Church. A heretic is one whose beliefs are at odds with the teachings of the Church, which means that even if Galileo was correct in saying that the sun was at the center of the universe, he was still a heretic for believing in a theory contrary to one taught by the Church. This is probably not something that a lot of people think about on a regular basis. However, I think it is very important to discuss the ways in which children learn to read. Reading has become a very important element in our society. With the rapid advancement of America, having good reading skills is essential to getting ahead in jobs and even in making dinner. According to the International Reading Association, A reading method is a set of teaching and learning materials and / or activities often given a label, such as phonics method, literature based method, or language experience method ( Using Multiple Methods ). This definition shows that many practices for reading can be called reading method. From the aforementioned reading methods definition and from doing a small amount of research, I decided I would narrow the focus of my research paper to the reading methods of whole language and phonics. I chose to focus on the concepts of whole language and phonics because for many years they have been among the most popular reading methods and because of the ongoing debate surrounding which method is better than the other a debate which has caused a constant push pull trend in these methods. For a while it will pull towards whole language, but then the trend switches to focus on phonics (the current trend). After more research on the concepts of whole language and phonics, I came to believe that this debate between methods the debate between whole language and phonics is an artificial dilemma, and isn t really about one method or the other when both methods could be combined. ... Throughout this work, there is a clear theme of racism, a racism that has become commonplace in Venetian society which rejects the marriage of Othello and Desdemona as anathema. The text expresses racism throughout the play within the language transaction of the dialogue to question the societal ethos established by Othello, thereby making him nothing less than a cultural other. Iago is the antithetical character of Shakespeare s creation. A society is a community of people co existing together with each person compelled to conform to our own different roles. A perfect society would probably be a fantasy or a mere notion, perhaps it would be more pragmatic to aim for a well balanced and a just society. It occurs when there is a discrepancy between the demands of the workplace and that of individual s (Tsutsumi et al., 2009). Job stress, also known as occupational stress, has been defined as the experience of negative emotional states such as frustration, worry, anxiety and depression attributed to work related factors (Kyriacou, 2001). Occupational stress can be defined as the harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the worker. Job stress can lead to poor health and even injury. The concept of Occupational stress is often confused with challenge, but these concepts are not the same.
