History Of The Women s Suffrage Movement
There will never be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect
lawmakers. This is a quote from Susan B. Anthony acknowledging the women s suffrage movement.
After the abolition of slavery in 1865, voting rights were extended to all citizens, however citizens in
this case meant, men only. As a result of only men having voting rights, women started advocating the
women s suffrage movement. The women s suffrage movement or woman suffrage was the struggle
for women to vote and run for office. This movement began in 1848 and it continued until 1920. There
were many women involved in this movement, but the two most important women were Susan B.
Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Susan and Elizabeth campaigned for women ... Show more

Many men who went against women voting would argue that women should stay home and clean.
Men have said things such as, You do not need a ballot to clean out your sink spout, and because 90%
of the women either do not want it, or do not care . This things were written in a pamphlet published
in 1910 by the organization, National Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage. Artists created
political cartoons that mocked suffragists, religious leaders opposed women who were part of the
women s suffrage movement, and articles also criticized woman who took part in this movement. On
the other hand, many men supported suffragists. Men such as; Frederick Douglas, George Francis
Train, Thetus W. Sims, James Mott, Daniel Anthony, Henry Blackwell, and Francis Minor. Frederick
signed the Declaration of Sentiments at the Seneca Falls Convention because while everyone else
criticized Elizabeth Cady Stanton. George Francis Train helped Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady
Stanton by funding their own newspaper called, The Revolution ; he would write on the newspaper.
Tethus W. Sims voted in favor of suffrage in 1918. James Mott was Lucretia Mott s husband and he
supported her in the women s rights activist. James was also one of the men who signed the
Declaration of Sentiments. Daniel Anthony was Susan B. Anthony s father who was a women s rights
advocate. Henry Blackwell served as an editor for the official women s right newspaper. Francis
Minor was married to a women s rights activist and he was a lawyer. Francis used his position of a
lawyer to help his wife in court when she was accused of voting illegally . To sum up, many men
either were against or for women s

The Main Aspects Of Intrinsic Motivation For An Athlete
Motivation is crucial for an athlete in order to want to win. It is hard to want to win if you have no
motivation. The main aspect of motivation in terms of the self determination theory is intrinsic
motivation. The self determination theory can be defined as a highly appropriate conceptual
framework from which to study sport persistence and dropout (Calvo, Cervelló, Jiménez, Iglesias,
Moreno Murcia, 2010). Intrinsic Motivation can be defined as an athlete taking up playing a sport just
for the enjoyment of playing a sport (Pelletier, Tuson, Fortier, Vallerand, Briére, 1995). It is important
to realize that the self determination theory affects an athlete s motivation intrinsically (internally)
because the self determination theory uses factors like autonomy and competence to motivate an
athlete to play better in their sport. Most athletes, now and in the past, find it easier to motivate
themselves intrinsically if they enjoy the sport or have fun while playing the sport (Ryan Deci, 1985).
Definitions
Intrinsic Motivation has been experimented on for years and in order to prove its validity. Regarding
athletics, intrinsic motivation is defined as an athlete taking up playing a sport just for the enjoyment
of playing a sport (Pelletier et al., 1995). In an article published by Ryan Deci, the two argue that
through their research, it was proven that having intrinsic motivation will help engage an athlete
because of the feeling of competence that arises

Essay On Dog And Dogs
On the other hand, the nature of a cat is to roam, causing them to lack structured discipline. Despite
this you may be able to train a small percentage of cats, to do simple tricks, but it would be difficult
and they may not comply for long.
Another attribute a dog has is their natural instinct to protect their owners. Owning a dog can save
your life and prevent an intruder from entering your home. Due to their impeccable hearing and
instinct, their often aware of danger when it s approaching from a far distance and make you aware by
barking. In some cases, intruders are scared away by the mere idea of knowing you have a dog, a
simple beware of dog sign can cause them to have second thoughts. If you do become in danger a dog
will protect you and your family. Dogs have rescued people from having drowning and fire fatalities .
This attribute is respected so much, certain dogs serve as police offers, protecting citizens, by assisting

Political Philosophy
Understanding the political philosophy of any individual is extraordinarily important when attempting
to understand any given individual in greater depth. As for my personal, political philosophy, I am
primarily focused on compassion. I contend that notions, and actions thereof, are just when concerning
the expansion of legitimate microcosmic interpersonal relationships.
When looking toward prefabricated political ideologies set forth by incredibly intelligent
predecessors, I favor writers and activists such as Lawrence Lessig, Cornel West, Howard Zinn, and
Noam Chomsky. In many ulterior respects, my perspective is highly influenced by political
progressivism as per contemporary counterculture. The plight of the working class and the poor is
indeed an issue too pervasive to be relegated to a simple right left dichotomy as present in modern
American political theater. In attempting to quantify what one may call my ideal political scheme, I
would say that a social democracy based upon a purely meritocratic system, without hereditary
transfer of wealth, would be preferred. I believe that when any socio political paradigm becomes a
shibboleth, which threatens the exchange of compassion in a microcosm of interpersonal relationships,
it rightly necessitates questioning and opposition.
In regarding compassion as an expression of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By facilitating the growth of closer, more meaningful, relationships the macrocosm of social relations
is in turn shifted. My political philosophy is also akin to the simplest premises of realpolitik, inasmuch
as I believe that any political philosophy must first and foremost benefit ordinary people. I also
believe that my political philosophy is in agreement with negative utilitarianism. While I do have
doubtful reservations about the efficacy of consequentialist pursuits, I am not nearly as versed in any

The Witch Craze Of The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries
Gender, race, age, and ability have been used to shape the history and our understanding of human
sexuality, as well as how certain groups, specifically marginalized groups, were seen as degenerate or
delinquent people. When examining why and how specific groups of people were though of as being
sexual delinquents, it is important to use an intersectional lens, and consider how these different
categories and identities of gender, race, age, and ability work together to form experiences and
opinions. By marginalizing, controlling, and regulating the sexualities and bodies of those who were
women, people of colour, adolescents, or differentially abled, the social norm of a white, heterosexual,
patriarchy has been enforced through history. Throughout the history of humankind, women s bodies
and sexuality have been critiqued, chastised, and judged by society. During the witch craze of the
sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, many women were accused of being evil beings. Over 60,000
women were wrongfully executed by their accusers . It was believed that woman who were midwives,
challenged male authority, or were sexually promiscuous and given themselves to Satin and were now
evil and immoral beings. The more feminine senses, touch, smell, and taste were often associated with
being a witch . By accusing women who were sexual agents or who were associated with women s
bodies or sexuality (such as midwives) of being evil and executing them, men were able to use gender

Marine Raider Regiment will be implementing a change to the Individual Operator Blowout kit. The
addition to the kit will be the X STAT gauze device developed by REVMEDX for use in treating

an injury to the junctional areas of the body. Without the device U.S. medics and corpsman have
limited resources to manage junctional hemorrhage and these type injuries would most likely lead to
fatalities from potentially survivable wounds. The timeline to initial fielding of the X STAT syringe

Spider Monkeys Social Behavior
Social Behavior Among Monkeys May Be More Nature Than Nurture
ScienceDaily (Dec. 4, 2003) An unusual experiment with monkeys who were switched between
mothers shortly after birth has demonstrated the importance of nature over nurture in behavior.
Rearing
Young monkeys reared by a mother other than their own are more likely to exhibit the aggressive or
friendly behavior of their birth mothers rather than the behavior of their foster mothers, a University of
Chicago researcher has shown for the first time.
The discovery of inheritability of social behavior traits among non human primates has important
implications for people as it reinforces other research that suggests that such characteristics as

It is said that the barks of spider monkeys are much worse than their bites. The crazy behavior of

monkeys only intimidate human beings only if they have not had a brush with them previously. Any

Society, 17(4), 553 572. doi: 10.1018/015205436.2013.816743
Rationale or justification (page #: 553 555, 566 569)
This topic is important because it allows us to gauge people s perception and impressions of certain
cues in the web environment. The research will help researchers understand which cues communicate
to people better in the Internet environment. The topic is unknown as of now but can have significant
impacts down the road. This information can help sell products, help political candidates;
advertisements and the list can go on. We need to know more about this phenomenon because it will
help with out communication on the web truly works. We can find out which cues work and don t
while trying to communicate a certain message to people. The authors do not state that this study
advances the field of communication but it does get the conversation started about how the Internet
and communicating in this medium is very different from tradition communication face to face. The
authors claim that by researching cues this will further the advancement of how certain cues are used
political campaigns on the web. The study does not try to advance the theory but instead uses it
vigorously to show how it works in the study.

A New Job At The Bay Harbor Yacht Club
This past summer, I landed a new job at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. There are three restaurants that
were incorporated in the Yacht club; The Lange Center, Quarter Deck, and the Beach House. The
Beach House was where I worked at with two others. Together, we accomplished many things for
ourselves and the restaurant itself. In order to do that, we had certain unsaid rules that all three of us
abided by. At which I will bring up later on. Eventually, we became what you call an activity system.
If you do not know what an activity system is; it is groups of people doing work together, who have
common motives and processes to achieve those motives. That activity system turned us into a well
put together team just through the three months of summer. We had Karl, who was the boss/manager
of the kitchen and Josh who was the other person who ran the kitchen with me. Josh and I were not the
ones in charge but Karl always made sure that we had say in everything that happened because
ultimately, for three people to run a kitchen, you need to all agree on something. Between the three of
us, we made that place make the most members happy, and the most money throughout the summer
for the Yacht club. Not only because of how hard we worked to make sure people were satisfied but
because of how well we communicated with each other. Communication is key in every group to
succeed in their motives, especially for this activity system.
Specifically, I am going to look at the writing that we

Strengths Of Existentialism
This assignment is about the main features of the existentialist view (UoPeople, 2017), or
existentialism, as well as the major strengths and weaknesses, and what is appealing or discouraging
about Sartre s Theory. First and foremost, existentialism is a philosophical theory or approach that
emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their
own development through acts of the will (Prezi, 2017). In other ways is a philosophy that focuses on
human existence and the important of their personal freedom, decision, and commitment. It originated

Gothic Element of The House of Seven Gables
Among the most striking features of the Gothic genre is the style of its architectural settings. In early
Gothic, these were often medievalist, involving ancient stone buildings with elaborate, Gothic arches,
buttresses, passageways, and crypts. This was to become the mise en scene of Gothicism, replete with
trappings of hidden doorways and secret chambers, incomprehensible labyrinths, speaking portraits,
and trapdoors. (Allen Lloyd Smith 7) Gothic Element of the Seven Gables The House of the Seven
Gables, by Nathanial Hawthorn is filled with gothic tropes and features. Since the story takes place in

A few others in the Pyncheon family would find a similar death in generations to come. One of those
being the Judge whose similarities to the original Pyncheon can be said to be doubling and uncanny.
His desire for land and fortune is what inevitably, what led his similar death. If we move away from
the land and into the house, we can find other gothic features. Within the house of the seven gables,
there are several portraits. Hephzibah and Phoebe sometimes felt a presence within the Portraits.
Hepzibah found herself staring at a portrait of Colonel Puritan. In one sense, this picture had almost
faded into the canvas, and hidden itself behind the duskiness of age; in another, she could not but
fancy that it had been growing more prominent and strikingly expressive, ever since her earliest
familiarity with it as a child (63). The portraits are not actually speaking as Lloyd mentioned above,
but they do not need to be in order for them to be gothic. It is that they seem to be real. For Hepzibah
and Phoebe, some photos have a living quality. These inanimate objects having lifelike features are
enough for them to be gothic. In the story of Alice Pyncheon, we hear her father speak with Mathew
Maule negotiating for the house. This conversation seems to anger the portrait. ... The ghostly portrait

Chrysalids Rebellion Quotes
Chrysalids essay Kaden I think the author added rebellion of culture as a theme because we re so used
to following our ways and not rebelling against culture and it mixes us up from what we re used too
and intrigues us. I think the author hints that rebelling is acceptable in the novel so that we think about
it and decide if it actually is. In the chrysalids rebellion happens because if a person is being harmed
or discriminated in an unfair manner they are allowed to rebel. He thinks rebellion is ok because
maybe a deviation could be helpful, for example David and his friends could talk without speaking.
Also, I think the author argues it is ok to rebel to protect someone else from harm. Many people in the
chrysalids rebel from their culture and society, these are just some examples of why the author lets
rebellion happen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Masculinity of Mike Tyson
Iron Mike Events, icons, technology, and environment affect the male population in America. Most
males have a person they look up to for inspirations and motivations. Males want to be tough and
strong, and they want to be feared by other males. Males enjoy being better than everyone else and
impressing women. When a successful male icon experiences a downfall, most men are shocked and
fear for their own downfall. Mike Tyson is an example of a successful male whose downfall became a

Mike Tyson claims that he acted as he did in the ring because he feared he would lose the fight to
Holyfield since he had a cut above his eye. His claim proves that as a male, he was scared of losing his
title of championship and beating his opponent was more important than his values. He accepted any
punishment and said he expect[s] to pay the price as a man, showing his desire to remain manly and
strong (1). Even after apologizing and admitting he is wrong, Tyson wants to prove to his fans and
everyone else that he would have won the fight. Tyson remains full of pride after his mistake and
states that he was saddened that the fight did not go further so that the boxing fans of the world might
see for themselves who would come out on top (2). Mike Tyson s actions impacted masculinity in
America, showing that even while being successful one can experience a downfall. Biting Holyfield s
ear was the beginning of Tyson s downfall. The incident with Holyfield was an addition to Tyson s
criminal record. After this event, there was more attention towards Tyson s increasing criminal record.
Before the fight versus Holyfield, Mike Tyson had been convicted of raping a pageant queen. His
behavior was not strange to some people because he never had stable relationships with women (Grass

Breast Cancer Report
1.Introduction
1.1 Introduction
Human epidermal growth factor (HER2) is a specialised protein that has the ability to control the
growth and spread of certain cancers. Breast cancer is defined as HER2 positive (HER2+) when there
is an extremely high level of HER2 receptors present within the cancerous tumour of the breast tissue
(Macmillan, 2013).
1.2 Aims and objectives
This report aims to give an overview on breast cancer focusing on the HER2+ sub type of the disease;
it includes an overview of aetiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis
and treatment. It will also include how the advances in stratified medicine have helped tailor treatment
for patients suffering from the HER2+ form of breast cancer.

Breast cancer has been the most common cancer in the UK since 1997, in 2011 alone it was
accountable for 30% of all new cancer diagnosed in women (Cancer Research UK, 2014). Between 15
25% of newly diagnosed cases of breast cancer will test positive for the over expression of the HER2
protein (Macmillan, 2014). The incidence of breast cancer in Northern Ireland is close to the average
for developed countries (NI Cancer Registry, 2011). However for the past 20 years Northern Irelands
incidence has been the lowest in the UK (Cancer Research UK, 2014).
3. Pathophysiology
Like all cancers, breast cancer develops because of defects in the DNA of a single cell. Cancers arise
when there is an accumulation of genetic mutations within genes that control cell growth and division
or the repair of damaged DNA. This causes damage allowing cells to grow and divide uncontrollably
forming a tumour. These mutations are called somatic mutations and are not inherited (GHR, 2007) In
addition to these genetic changes researchers have identified many other factors that increase the risk
of developing of breast cancer, these were previously mentioned.
4. Clinical Presentation
The symptoms of breast cancer can be categorised into early stage

As shown in There Will Come Soft Rains , annihilations includes the obliteration of nature and our
surroundings. To convey this message to the readers, Ray Bradbury makes a strategic use of the
narrative elements: setting and figurative language. As the story begins, we learn that the house stood
alone in a city of rubble and ashes. This was the one house left standing. At night the ruined city gave
off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles (Bradbury 167). From the start, we begin to see
that everything in the vicinity of a town on Earth is destroyed except this damaged house still
managing to function properly. Through the description of the setting, the readers start to get an idea
of what it would be like if the world is destroyed by a radioactive bomb. On top of the house already
been destroyed, we read that a falling tree bough crashed through the kitchen window. Cleaning
solvent, bottled, shattered over the stove. The room was ablaze in an instant! (Bradbury 170). This
instant clearly depicts the idea of the obliteration of nature and subsequently the obliteration of already
destroyed mankind due to hatred and

How Does Social Media Affect Women
How and Why Does Media Affect Young Women?
In recent years, social media has flown to increasing popularity. People spend hours scrolling their
Instagram feed touching up their pictures to put forth their best looks, updating their Snapchat stories
and sending messages with funny faces to friends, trying to stay connected to the world. Social media
stars have found a new array of followers and idolizers. All over the world, people inspire to be like
that one person with 3,000 followers or 8 million comparing their dazzling looks to their own dull
appearance. Although media can help connect the world, it also forces people to compare themselves
to others; Social media is a toxic playing field for young women because these comparisons bring low
self esteem and a rise in mental illness.
Authors Jakobsons, Simmons, and Kellas all agree on one basic idea, social media can affect teen s
mental health. Jakobsons and Kellas both argue that this age of visual platforms makes teens feel
inadequate, compared to others. Comparisons can bring pressure to look perfect, resulting in a higher
risk of anxiety and depression. Though Simmon s dispute revolves more towards the negative body
image teens can develop when looking at their feed, she also agrees on the ties it has with mental
illness. However, unlike Jakobsons and Kellas, Simmons feels that teens should not be so easily
bought in with the images they see on their screens, but should look with the same critical eye as seen
through with movies and magazines. On the other hand, Kellas brings in the fact that social media, has
made teens feel below average in beauty, intelligence and worth. Authors Jakobsons and Simmons
both acknowledge that in order to help with the negative effects of social media parents should talk to
their children about feeling confident and letting them know they are perfect the way they are. Rachel
Simmons, author of Odd Girl Out and a leader development specialist at Smiths College, argues in her
article How Social Media Is a Toxic Mirror that social media has become a way for teens to critique
themselves and can create poor eating habits, leading to pro anorexia due to the increase of wellness
industries. It has long been understood

The Importance Of Critical Reading
According to (Critical literacy practices, 2011) critical reading is a type of literacy practice that is
learning practice in which students analyze and critique language and power relationships within
written texts. Many college freshmen are not prepared for critical reading, yet a lot of higher education
organizations and levels do not require individual critical reading courses. Even though critical
reading is an often cited neutral topic in some different colleges structured reading courses. In many
different colleges, at times, there is little to no research that exists that may also describe how
composition instructors teach critical reading strategies. No matter the subject or the age of the reader.
An overall reading goal for critical readers includes reading an article to comprehend information
based on what was stated within the text. While readers read to gain understanding from the text, the
readers also use additional information at times such as factual ideas, prior knowledge, and also
context clues to understand the difficult text. There are many ways to become a critical reader which
includes different types of reading strategies.
There are a few different reading strategies that can help a person become a critical reader. A reading
strategy that could lead upcoming undergraduate students to become critical readers is a strategy that
is called Crap Analysis . There are more strategies used to become a critical reader that includes

Summary Of Fredrick Douglass
PROMPT: Various event, conflicts and issues were central to the period in which your chosen leader
lived. In an analytical essay, discuss one or more of these that appear to have been very important to
your chosen leader s life.
When one talks, people listen, when Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, best known as Fredrick
Douglass, an American slave , wrote people read. When he spoke his truth, through his speeches he
began to preach for the right against slavery. Known as the most recognised African American leader
before the civil war, Douglass was born a slave. It is apparent that Fredrick Douglass was a significant
figure and believed in abolitionism, a movement to end slavery, that occurred in American during
middle 1800s. Literature was a major factor in Douglass approach in the battle in gaining the attention
of his fellow victims of slavery. With no formal education, he wrote his first book, The Narrative of
Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave, Written by Himself. An analysis of the key events, conflicts
and issues that have influenced Douglass first step into the anti slavery civil rights movement.
Spreading knowledge about his experiences and changing the law which made reading and access to
education illegal for slaves. This motivated him to purchase his first book, a collection of famous
speeches, which elevated his abilities to portray his message though public speeches. Fighting with his
words instead of violence. These conflicts helped him accomplish his overall goal of solving the
inequitable treatments of slaves.
Douglass pursuits to stand for his right for education as a young boy. During his stay with Master
Hugh s family at the age of seven he succeeded in learning to read and write with the help of Hugh s
mistress. During a time where it was illegal for slaves to have access to education by law, even though
the mistress helped advice and direct Douglass, she remained fearful though the process of her
husband. When white men believed that if slaves were given the opportunity to read they could write
their own paths. It got to a point where she completely stopped and Douglass fell back on other white

Seizure Disorders Paper
Seizure disorders, according to the Mayo Clinic (2015), affect approximately 1 in 26 people in the
United States. Persistent, or chronic, seizures result from a condition called epilepsy, a neurological
disorder of the central nervous system. It can affect anyone regardless of age, but is more common
during early childhood and after age 60. Given the number of people that seizure disorders, such as
epilepsy, affect, it becomes helpful to gain a foundational understanding of the disease, including
some of the causes, symptoms, and treatments available.
A seizure is a disruption of the electrical activity between neurons in the brain. The resulting chemical
changes can lead to a surge of electrical activity causing a seizure. Aside from trauma to the brain due

Types of seizures vary in intensity and effect. Some seizures are hardly noticeable, while others
incapacitate the patient. Mild seizures, which can last for a few seconds, do not involve a loss of
consciousness, but may change emotions or the way things look, feel, smell, taste, or sound. They may
also involve involuntary twitching of an extremity, a leg or arm, and dizziness, a tingling sensation, or
flashing lights. More severe seizures can last for a few minutes and involve a loss of awareness or
consciousness. Other symptoms include repetitive movement, such as hand rubbing, chewing,
blinking, staring, or walking in circles. With tonic clonic seizures, also known as grand mal seizures,
the body initially stiffens briefly, then begins to convulse. The teeth will clench sometimes biting the
tongue, causing bleeding from the mouth. There may also be increased salivation causing foaming at
the mouth. Additionally, a loss of control of bladder or bowel functions may occur. An epilepsy patient
will typically have the same type of seizure, whether mild or severe, so symptoms will be similar from

CFD Via Large Eddy Simulation Case Study
In chapter 3, it was shown that CFD via Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence closure is capable of
simulating ABL wind characteristics with a better agreement in compare to target theoretical wind
profiles for open terrain condition rather than the other turbulence closures of k ε and Reynolds Stress
Model (RSM). It is because LES uses a spatial filtering operation to separate the larger eddies (which
are more anisotropic) and smaller eddies (which are nearly isotropic). However, the prescribed inlet
velocity in chapter 3 for CFD model of the open jet facility was a uniform wind over the height of test
section, and it was the rule of planks arrangement to produce the final target wind profile.
Furthermore, in chapter 4, some important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For wind engineering applications and simulation of flow around buildings, the validation can be
defined into two main phases, including: (1) wind flow characteristics validation; and, (2) validation
of simulated pressures on surfaces of building [99]. In this chapter, the CFD LES is carried out to
simulate the inflow turbulence content in such a way to compensate the lack of large eddies in the
flow. The generated transient inflow should possess natural wind characteristics with both time
(temporal) and space (spatial) correlations.
In this chapter, in order to make certain that the developed CFD LES model of a low rise building and
the inlet wind velocity fluctuations are in accordance to real world ABL properties, the full scale
benchmark data from the Wind Engineering Research Field Laboratory (WERFL) at Texas Tech
University (TTU) are used as field recorded wind pressure and velocity data. In addition, wind tunnel
measurement from NIST/UWO and open jet testing at LSU are compared with CFD LES results. The
effects of correlation of wind loading on the roof of low rise buildings are investigated for each cases
as well. In addition, the values of peak pressure coefficients are compared with external pressure
coefficients, GCp, specified for components and cladding (C C) in ASCE 7 10.

How Did Popular Sovereignty Influence The Government
Popular Sovereignty has changed a lot with the people who had an influence on our government. In
1787 not very many people had an influence on our government. The only people whose opinion
mattered were white, old men with property. Now, in 2017, we have a lot more people that can express
their opinions and vote for what they agree with.
In 2017 all United States citizens can vote as long as their 18 years or older and registered. This has
allowed thousands of more people to vote. How did this huge of a change happen? From amendments,
acts, cases, and more. The first amendment gives everyone the right for petition, assembly, speech,
religion, and press. This gives everyone the right to speak their opinion of their political views,
religious beliefs, and ect. Only white men voting changed with the adding of the amendments 15th
and 19th. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 lead to the 15th amendment. This amendment gave people of
any race to be allowed to vote. All men of any race was given the rights to vote. Later on came the
19th amendment. The 19th amendment gave all women above the legal age of 21 the right to vote.
Eventually the voting age got lowered to 18. Boys being drafted at age 18 were complaining which

Male love in The Things They Carried
The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien is a fictional book consisting of different stories from
Vietnam war. Tim O Brien was trying to convey the real perspectives of the war to his readers by
telling facts and stories through his personal memories he got from the war, and how things effect
them and their life after the war. In order to express the tension in the war, O Brien depicts the
experience of the soldiers by showing the different ways of expression of male love from these
soldiers. Although there are many forms of friendship, some of which may vary from place to place,
the friendship in the war is the most unique one. As the definition of Friendship, Friendship is a
stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. The bond between soldiers is more intense
and real, and this is also the message that Tim O Brien shows in his book by using metaphor, details
depicting and technique of repetition.
Tim O Brien uses metaphor of photos to express the life before, tie all soldiers together, and thus show
the friendship of them. The Thing They Carried is not only describing the life in the Vietnam war, but
is more about the things that they carried, and the emotions and stories behind these things. All
soldiers bring some small items, like comic books and hunting hatchets, which contain their memory
from the past, to the war. My girl. What about her? The picture, it was

George Orwell Politics And The English Language Analysis
In Politics and the English language, George Orwell portrays various tricks by which the work of
prose construction is habitually dodged. (Orwell 583). Orwell s argument is the English language is
being deformed by modern writers thus mocking the use of the language. Orwell relates this topic to
political and economic issues to show how the use of English is critical with these aspects. He refers
to this topic as a reversible process (Orwell 581) if writers follow his six rules; without them the
writing contains staleness of imagery and lack of precision. (Orwell 582). Orwell names these tricks:
dying metaphors, operators or verbal false limbs, pretentious diction, and meaningless words. In
Shooting an Elephant, Orwell uses these tricks to provide rhetorical motives. Orwell mentions He
wears a mask, and his face grows to fit it (Orwell 853) to refer to himself when he was a police man in

Orwell states dying metaphors are in effect reverted to being an ordinary word and can generally be
used without loss of vividness. (Orwell 583). The comparison between a man wearing a mask and the
face of the man growing into the mask negate each other causing this metaphor to be unclear. The
negation kills the visual image for the reader by making it unclear if the mask actually fits Orwell s
face. If the reader cannot picture the comparison of a metaphor, it fails to have meaning which is

James D. Watson s The Double Helix Essay
Failed DNA Structures
Over the course of the modern age, the human body was still a mystery waiting to be solved. The body
contains secrets one can only hope to discover. Over the twentieth century, scientists tried to
understand one of the most complex concepts in the biological field. DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid)
was at the forefront of research. Several theories claimed to have solved the structural concept of
DNA. However, it was not until Francis Crick and James D. Watson discovered the true structure, the
double helix. However, many potential models of DNA had passed through the biology field until
eventual lose of credibility. The past models would contain a fixed detail that would make the entire
concept invalid. In James D. Watson book, The Double Helix, he illustrates his path amid incorrect
theories until he reaches the model that is taught around the world today. One of the flawed theories
was model with a sugar phosphate backbone that was at the centre of the molecule. Three chains
twisted about each other in a way that gave rise to a crystallographic repeat every 28 A along the
helical axis (Watson, 1968). Weak evidence backed up the model; the evidence was indirect. Evidence
like the X ray reflection apparently agreed with the model. The reflections also agreed with the
quantitative measurements. Although the model fit the X ray reflection calculations, it was guessed as
to what force held the chains together. This guess was on salt bridges that the

Trophic Interactions Of Animals Essay
2. Describe 2 trophic interactions of an organism from the area studied.
An example of a trophic interaction includes parasitism, which is a relationship that involves a
harmful organism living on another organism, and is presented by the galls ( plant tumours ) on the
Grey Mangrove. The formation of a gall is initiated when an insect feeds on a plant or dominates the
tissue of a plant and lays eggs there. The eggs will grow within the leaves, which they will eventually
devour. These abnormal growths of plant tissue are a response to irritation or harm of the plant and it
may slow down the photosynthesis process and may make the Grey Mangrove die.
Another example includes mutualism, where both species benefit from the relationship. Mutualism ...

moisture to seep in. Its shell also reduces water loss from evaporation. Camouflage is also possible

Decisions are much easier to take. However, the experience of convergence IASB/FASB shows that
many years are necessary to ensure the convergence of two reference frames however based on the
same Anglo Saxon culture of the businesses. This is due primarily to an existence of an opposition
between an approach by the rules in the case of FASB and an approach by the principles which
follows IASB. IASB is at the center of the convergence movement. The IFRS are described like
founded on principles, which means that they leave a big freedom of action to the companies about the
evaluation of the accounting data. The US GAAP are described like founded on rules and they aim to
regulate all the possible aspects of the presentation of the accounts. These standards thus require very
detailed information on behalf of the companies. In the case of convergence between IASB and FASB,
the harmonization of the IFRS and US GAAP is currently working and common solutions have
already been found. That do not prevent from the divergence of several points of view, among the
principal aspects to be solved one we think about the financial instruments and the presentation of the
performances. Some of the differences between US GAAP and IFRS are embodied in the standards
themselves. They are intentional deviations from US requirements. Americanocentrism Some
countries adopted some international standards

White Tigers From The Woman Warrior Essay
Maxine Hong Kingston once said, I ve been writing since I was 7, but before that, I was orally making
stories. This quote expresses Kingston s fervor for writing and storytelling outside of her short story
White Tigers from the Woman Warrior , which emphasizes the importance of literature, which is her
art, by retelling her own childhood as the fairy tale of the Woman Warrior, Fa Mu Lan, and connecting
it back to her own life. The introductory paragraphs, coupled with the word carving scene and the
concluding final paragraphs, evoke Fa Mu Lan and present Maxine s life as analogous to Fa Mu Lan s
life story. While it is understood that they did not know each other, Maxine complicates this
relationship , for lack of a better word, by using a first person narrative as opposed to a third person
narrative while retelling the fairy tale , which in turn complicates subjectivity of Maxine, and the
relationship between Maxine and Fa Mu Lan. Moreover, the words in the word carving scene in the
middle of the fairy tale are double symbols of suffering and of perfect filiality, which is a trait
common in Chinese culture. By and large, these early on passages, and each section from there on,
and the word cutting scene, utilize the literary devices of point of view and central symbol to influence
the audience to acknowledge Maxine s claim that Fa Mu Lan is her model, and that she, Maxine, is
fruitful in taking after her case since they both have words at their backs.

respect to the draft, they face very similar repercussions for their decisions. In this time, men were
expected to participate in the draft for the Vietnam war and John ... Show more content on

John may not regret evading the draft, but he definitely feels the consequences the method in which he
chose to evade the draft has brought. As a result of John not having to fear the draft as many of men
his age do, he feels disconnected. John recognizes that his generation is anti war because they are
afraid of being forced to fight in the war and that is not a fear he has to have. John expresses the
disconnect he feels when he says I had a 4 F deferment; I would never have to go to war, or to Canada.
By the simple act of removing the first two joints of my right index finger, Owen Meany had enabled
me to feel completely detached from my generation (Irving 532). Although fighting in the war is not
what John wanted, the way he describes having his finger cut off as a simple act gives the impression
that he feels it was a cop out because he could have ran away to Canada and still felt a part of his
generation. In addition, John says I was still a little self conscious about my missing finger. The scar
tissue was new enough so that any exertion the stump to look inflamed (Irving 532). John s scarred
finger is not just unsightly, it is a reminder to himself and a tell tale sign to everyone else, that John
ran away from the draft and John was not proud of

Persuasive Speech On Greenpeace
Greenpeace The world we live in today is dying. From the pollutants in the air and water to the litter
on the ground, we as humans and organisms living on this world are actively aware of how we are
harming it, yet we continue to do the same. No matter if you believe this affects climate change and
global warming or not, it is common knowledge to know the actions we take every day, whether its
driving to work or school, burning your trash, or the abundant use of plastic, affects the environment.
So long as we continue to hurt our environment we continue to worsen the air we breathe, the water
we drink, and the homes of all wildlife. Greenpeace is a non governmental environmental organization
dedicated to bringing awareness to this destruction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A few activists began to protest since the testing was on fault line and they feared it might cause an
earthquake leading to a tsunami. These activists were the founders of the Don t Make a Wave
Committee which would turn into Greenpeace. The name came during one of their meetings when one
of the members, Irving Stowe, flashed the peace sign as was his custom and said Peace . On that
occasion, the usually rather quiet Canadian ecologist Bill Darnell made the off hand reply: Make it a
green peace. Wife of a US Navy veteran, Marie Bohlen came up with the idea to sail a boat out to the
testing site to protest by mere presence. They funded this by hosting a concert and recording that
concert on to CDs. Roughly sixteen thousand people attended the concert and they raised over
$23,000. They used this money to charter a ship and went to sail out to the site to prevent the testing.
The US Navy intercepted them preventing them from accomplishing their mission, but upon return
they learned that the media caught wind of this story and the group and their mission gained a lot of
public attention. They were unable to prevent that test fire, but the rest of the tests that were planned
after that were cancelled and the island was later declared as a bird sanctuary. ( History, n.d.) This was
just the beginning of a very influential movement, one that will spread across the

Informational Constraints
1. Chapter eight describes three broader goals of one s audience in addition to those discussed earlier
in the textbook. One of these is security. Another is professional growth. As the textbook notes, people
want to develop and grow on the job...they want to learn more skills and assume new duties...and they
want to work for an organization that is developing and growing (Markel, 2012). 2. Constraints within
technical writing are things such as the amount of information that can be gathered for a paper, the
required length and format, the due date, etc. (Markel, 2012), that impact the writing process. These
often help a writer compose a document however they also can be a hindrance as well. An example of

A commonsense argument is one that appeals to a person s understanding and experience of how the
world works. The textbook notes, if your audience s commonsense arguments match yours, your
argument is likely to be persuasive. Often, people can act in mysterious ways, and this is an effective
way to present an argument. Like the University of Maryland s University College notes on their
website, Clear thinking requires that you state your claim and support it with concrete, specific facts.
This approach appeals to our common sense... ( Writing Arguments, 2011). 7. One type of argument is
one that argues against the writer themselves, instead of against the writer s argument. This is known
as a ad hominem argument, or an argument against the speaker (Markel, 2012) according to the
textbook. Ad hominem arguments are useful in convincing someone to do something or of a side of
something because of a characteristic they possess. These arguments are logical fallacies that are
colloquially known as mistakes in reasoning ( What is..., n.d.) that are often not mistakes that can help
writers and speakers win persuasive

Ancient Aztec Philosopher Moctezuma II
Moctezuma II, historically referred to as the ninth emperor of Tenochtitlan in 1502, was said to have
been a ruler who was considered to be both man and god. Alternately, according to a significant
dominant viewpoint by Charles Phillips, an esteemed contemporary historian, Moctezuma has proven
to have lost the confidence of his people. Moctezuma II was a man who manipulated power to
exercise military, political, economic and social control in the Ancient Aztec society at an attempt to
benefit himself at the cost of his people. This theory has been accurately represented historically
through the analysis of various archaeological sources. Moctezuma s personal life, including his
military, political and economic accomplishments; together

Edward Scissorhands Character Analysis
Individuality can be an admired gift, but it is often buried under society s illogically perfect
expectations. The famous film director, Tim Burton, known for directing movies such as Edward
Scissorhands and Alice in Wonderland, proves in several thrilling adventures. He shows that
uniqueness is a strength, not a weakness, even if it means being an outcast or misfit. Through two of
his films, Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children and Edward Scissorhands, showcases the
message of identity is preferable to conformity.
An outcast is a perfect example of identity. Even if they try, they never truly fit in. Sometimes it can
be because of an awkward nature or because they are given the title goodie two shoes . But these
outcasts often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edward s actions speak very loudly, louder than his odd hands, dark clothing, or strange/awkward
behaviors. The show of loyalty proves Burton s message of identity. This message is also showcased
in the movie Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children. Basically, all of the Peculiars are the
outcasts of the film. When Jake first enters the loop and meets Miss Peregrine, she says a quote that
beautifully supports the message. As Miss Peregrine explains to Jake what Peculiars are, she says, We
are what s known in common towns as peculiar. Because our abilities don t fit in the outside world, we
live in places like this where no one can find us. Miss Peregrine. This quote helps to show the
audience that the misfits couldn t fit in, but as the movie continues, the peculiars prove themselves as
brave, merciful people with strong characters. In contrast, the times we do get to see the townspeople,
they seem to be reckless, moody, unstable people. The words both sets of characters say shows just
how different they are and just how much of a good thing being an outcast can be.
The contrasting settings between the two main different places also helps to accent the difference
between individuality and conformity. Typically, in each of Burton s films, there is a dark, eerie
setting, and a bright, vivid setting. The example of vivid versus eerie settings

How Is Malvolio A Foolish Character
Often foolishness can be defined as, the lack of good judgement and sense, which is associated with
jesters or clowns usually for comedic effect. In stark contrast, in Twelfth Night reader s find that those
in position of power with stereotypically serious roles are portrayed as foolish for comedic effect,
whereas the court fools, are portrayed as intelligent. This is largely representational throughout
Malvolio, as he is a character of somewhat high class, yet he still portrays the traits of a foolish man.
He can t see the obvious discrepancies between the letters request and Oliva reactions to his
behaviour. This being said one finds that, in Shakespeare s play Twelfth Night Malvolio can be seen as
the most foolish character due to his inability to see through thinly veiled lies ... Show more content

George 02 Primarily, Malvolio is described as a very ignorant character who cannot take a joke, his
ignorance then leaves him as an easy target for other characters to insult him. In Twelfth Night, Sir
Toby, Sir Andrew, and Maria all plot a scheme that involves forging Olivia s handwriting in a letter,
making Malvolio believe that she is in love with him. His quick belief of Oliva s love towards him, is
due to his personality. Seeing as his personality essentially makes the prank work, with a change of his
character, said incident would cease to exist. Malvolio is a very serious character, who thinks of
himself more superior than others. This is evident when he says, Go, hang yourselves all! You are idle
shallow things: I am not your element: you shall know more hereafter. (Act 3 , Scene 4). This quote
effectively shows readers that Malvolio thinks that he is

  • 2. History Of The Women s Suffrage Movement There will never be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect lawmakers. This is a quote from Susan B. Anthony acknowledging the women s suffrage movement. After the abolition of slavery in 1865, voting rights were extended to all citizens, however citizens in this case meant, men only. As a result of only men having voting rights, women started advocating the women s suffrage movement. The women s suffrage movement or woman suffrage was the struggle for women to vote and run for office. This movement began in 1848 and it continued until 1920. There were many women involved in this movement, but the two most important women were Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Susan and Elizabeth campaigned for women ... • 3. The Main Aspects Of Intrinsic Motivation For An Athlete Motivation is crucial for an athlete in order to want to win. It is hard to want to win if you have no motivation. The main aspect of motivation in terms of the self determination theory is intrinsic motivation. The self determination theory can be defined as a highly appropriate conceptual framework from which to study sport persistence and dropout (Calvo, Cervelló, Jiménez, Iglesias, Moreno Murcia, 2010). Intrinsic Motivation can be defined as an athlete taking up playing a sport just for the enjoyment of playing a sport (Pelletier, Tuson, Fortier, Vallerand, Briére, 1995). It is important to realize that the self determination theory affects an athlete s motivation intrinsically (internally) because the self determination theory uses factors like autonomy and competence to motivate an athlete to play better in their sport. Most athletes, now and in the past, find it easier to motivate themselves intrinsically if they enjoy the sport or have fun while playing the sport (Ryan Deci, 1985). Definitions Intrinsic Motivation has been experimented on for years and in order to prove its validity. Regarding athletics, intrinsic motivation is defined as an athlete taking up playing a sport just for the enjoyment of playing a sport (Pelletier et al., 1995). In an article published by Ryan Deci, the two argue that through their research, it was proven that having intrinsic motivation will help engage an athlete because of the feeling of competence that arises ... • 5. Political Philosophy Understanding the political philosophy of any individual is extraordinarily important when attempting to understand any given individual in greater depth. As for my personal, political philosophy, I am primarily focused on compassion. I contend that notions, and actions thereof, are just when concerning the expansion of legitimate microcosmic interpersonal relationships. When looking toward prefabricated political ideologies set forth by incredibly intelligent predecessors, I favor writers and activists such as Lawrence Lessig, Cornel West, Howard Zinn, and Noam Chomsky. In many ulterior respects, my perspective is highly influenced by political progressivism as per contemporary counterculture. The plight of the working class and the poor is indeed an issue too pervasive to be relegated to a simple right left dichotomy as present in modern American political theater. In attempting to quantify what one may call my ideal political scheme, I would say that a social democracy based upon a purely meritocratic system, without hereditary transfer of wealth, would be preferred. I believe that when any socio political paradigm becomes a shibboleth, which threatens the exchange of compassion in a microcosm of interpersonal relationships, it rightly necessitates questioning and opposition. The Witch Craze Of The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries Gender, race, age, and ability have been used to shape the history and our understanding of human sexuality, as well as how certain groups, specifically marginalized groups, were seen as degenerate or delinquent people. When examining why and how specific groups of people were though of as being sexual delinquents, it is important to use an intersectional lens, and consider how these different categories and identities of gender, race, age, and ability work together to form experiences and opinions. By marginalizing, controlling, and regulating the sexualities and bodies of those who were women, people of colour, adolescents, or differentially abled, the social norm of a white, heterosexual, patriarchy has been enforced through history. Throughout the history of humankind, women s bodies and sexuality have been critiqued, chastised, and judged by society. • 11. A New Job At The Bay Harbor Yacht Club This past summer, I landed a new job at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. There are three restaurants that were incorporated in the Yacht club; The Lange Center, Quarter Deck, and the Beach House. The Beach House was where I worked at with two others. Together, we accomplished many things for ourselves and the restaurant itself. In order to do that, we had certain unsaid rules that all three of us abided by. At which I will bring up later on. Eventually, we became what you call an activity system. If you do not know what an activity system is; it is groups of people doing work together, who have common motives and processes to achieve those motives. If we move away from the land and into the house, we can find other gothic features. Within the house of the seven gables, there are several portraits. Hephzibah and Phoebe sometimes felt a presence within the Portraits. Hepzibah found herself staring at a portrait of Colonel Puritan. In one sense, this picture had almost faded into the canvas, and hidden itself behind the duskiness of age; in another, she could not but fancy that it had been growing more prominent and strikingly expressive, ever since her earliest familiarity with it as a child (63). The portraits are not actually speaking as Lloyd mentioned above, but they do not need to be in order for them to be gothic. It is that they seem to be real. In the chrysalids rebellion happens because if a person is being harmed or discriminated in an unfair manner they are allowed to rebel. He thinks rebellion is ok because maybe a deviation could be helpful, for example David and his friends could talk without speaking. • 19. How Does Social Media Affect Women How and Why Does Media Affect Young Women? In recent years, social media has flown to increasing popularity. People spend hours scrolling their Instagram feed touching up their pictures to put forth their best looks, updating their Snapchat stories and sending messages with funny faces to friends, trying to stay connected to the world. Social media stars have found a new array of followers and idolizers. All over the world, people inspire to be like that one person with 3,000 followers or 8 million comparing their dazzling looks to their own dull appearance. Although media can help connect the world, it also forces people to compare themselves to others; Social media is a toxic playing field for young women because these comparisons bring low self esteem and a rise in mental illness. Authors Jakobsons, Simmons, and Kellas all agree on one basic idea, social media can affect teen s mental health. Jakobsons and Kellas both argue that this age of visual platforms makes teens feel inadequate, compared to others. Comparisons can bring pressure to look perfect, resulting in a higher risk of anxiety and depression. Though Simmon s dispute revolves more towards the negative body image teens can develop when looking at their feed, she also agrees on the ties it has with mental illness. However, unlike Jakobsons and Kellas, Simmons feels that teens should not be so easily bought in with the images they see on their screens, but should look with the same critical eye as seen through with movies and magazines. On the other hand, Kellas brings in the fact that social media, has made teens feel below average in beauty, intelligence and worth. Authors Jakobsons and Simmons both acknowledge that in order to help with the negative effects of social media parents should talk to their children about feeling confident and letting them know they are perfect the way they are. Rachel Simmons, author of Odd Girl Out and a leader development specialist at Smiths College, argues in her article How Social Media Is a Toxic Mirror that social media has become a way for teens to critique themselves and can create poor eating habits, leading to pro anorexia due to the increase of wellness industries. Faith in humanity was lost and now we need faith more then ever, we have lost what we call our security blanket. Every time we open a newspaper or watch the news after a long day of work we have the temptation to despair, filling ourselves with fear more and more each day. Everyone in our eyes is the next terrorist or serial killer. America has never been as fearful as it is now. I have grown up in a world where technology multiplies and get bigger each day. Media portrays all that is going on within the world and it has become a sick routine to watch the devastating news every morning and night making Americans numb to what goes on in society. We have changed our ways more than any other country in this world. The most obvious changes Americans have faced after September 11th 2001 take place at airports. Travelers now must check in at least two hours before their flight takes off. There are numerous amounts of restrictions on what travelers can bring. Any liquids and toiletries have to be a certain size and placed in a clear sealed zip lock bag. There are also absolutely no tweezers or nail clippers allowed past security. The Importance Of Critical Reading According to (Critical literacy practices, 2011) critical reading is a type of literacy practice that is learning practice in which students analyze and critique language and power relationships within written texts. Many college freshmen are not prepared for critical reading, yet a lot of higher education organizations and levels do not require individual critical reading courses. Even though critical reading is an often cited neutral topic in some different colleges structured reading courses. In many different colleges, at times, there is little to no research that exists that may also describe how composition instructors teach critical reading strategies. No matter the subject or the age of the reader. An overall reading goal for critical readers includes reading an article to comprehend information based on what was stated within the text. While readers read to gain understanding from the text, the readers also use additional information at times such as factual ideas, prior knowledge, and also context clues to understand the difficult text. There are many ways to become a critical reader which includes different types of reading strategies. There are a few different reading strategies that can help a person become a critical reader. When he spoke his truth, through his speeches he began to preach for the right against slavery. Known as the most recognised African American leader before the civil war, Douglass was born a slave. It is apparent that Fredrick Douglass was a significant figure and believed in abolitionism, a movement to end slavery, that occurred in American during middle 1800s. Literature was a major factor in Douglass approach in the battle in gaining the attention of his fellow victims of slavery. With no formal education, he wrote his first book, The Narrative of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave, Written by Himself. An analysis of the key events, conflicts and issues that have influenced Douglass first step into the anti slavery civil rights movement. Spreading knowledge about his experiences and changing the law which made reading and access to education illegal for slaves. This motivated him to purchase his first book, a collection of famous speeches, which elevated his abilities to portray his message though public speeches. Fighting with his words instead of violence. These conflicts helped him accomplish his overall goal of solving the inequitable treatments of slaves. Douglass pursuits to stand for his right for education as a young boy. During his stay with Master Hugh s family at the age of seven he succeeded in learning to read and write with the help of Hugh s mistress. During a time where it was illegal for slaves to have access to education by law, even though the mistress helped advice and direct Douglass, she remained fearful though the process of her husband. • 23. Seizure Disorders Paper Seizure disorders, according to the Mayo Clinic (2015), affect approximately 1 in 26 people in the United States. Persistent, or chronic, seizures result from a condition called epilepsy, a neurological disorder of the central nervous system. It can affect anyone regardless of age, but is more common during early childhood and after age 60. Given the number of people that seizure disorders, such as epilepsy, affect, it becomes helpful to gain a foundational understanding of the disease, including some of the causes, symptoms, and treatments available. A seizure is a disruption of the electrical activity between neurons in the brain. The resulting chemical changes can lead to a surge of electrical activity causing a seizure. Some seizures are hardly noticeable, while others incapacitate the patient. Mild seizures, which can last for a few seconds, do not involve a loss of consciousness, but may change emotions or the way things look, feel, smell, taste, or sound. They may also involve involuntary twitching of an extremity, a leg or arm, and dizziness, a tingling sensation, or flashing lights. More severe seizures can last for a few minutes and involve a loss of awareness or consciousness. Other symptoms include repetitive movement, such as hand rubbing, chewing, blinking, staring, or walking in circles. With tonic clonic seizures, also known as grand mal seizures, the body initially stiffens briefly, then begins to convulse. The teeth will clench sometimes biting the tongue, causing bleeding from the mouth. There may also be increased salivation causing foaming at the mouth. CFD Via Large Eddy Simulation Case Study In chapter 3, it was shown that CFD via Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence closure is capable of simulating ABL wind characteristics with a better agreement in compare to target theoretical wind profiles for open terrain condition rather than the other turbulence closures of k ε and Reynolds Stress Model (RSM). It is because LES uses a spatial filtering operation to separate the larger eddies (which are more anisotropic) and smaller eddies (which are nearly isotropic). However, the prescribed inlet velocity in chapter 3 for CFD model of the open jet facility was a uniform wind over the height of test section, and it was the rule of planks arrangement to produce the final target wind profile. For wind engineering applications and simulation of flow around buildings, the validation can be defined into two main phases, including: (1) wind flow characteristics validation; and, (2) validation of simulated pressures on surfaces of building [99]. In this chapter, the CFD LES is carried out to simulate the inflow turbulence content in such a way to compensate the lack of large eddies in the flow. The generated transient inflow should possess natural wind characteristics with both time (temporal) and space (spatial) correlations. In this chapter, in order to make certain that the developed CFD LES model of a low rise building and the inlet wind velocity fluctuations are in accordance to real world ABL properties, the full scale benchmark data from the Wind Engineering Research Field Laboratory (WERFL) at Texas Tech University (TTU) are used as field recorded wind pressure and velocity data. In addition, wind tunnel measurement from NIST/UWO and open jet testing at LSU are compared with CFD LES results. Xizhao Liu(Amber) American Literature Essay #3 Nov. 11, 2016 Male love in The Things They Carried The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien is a fictional book consisting of different stories from Vietnam war. Tim O Brien was trying to convey the real perspectives of the war to his readers by telling facts and stories through his personal memories he got from the war, and how things effect them and their life after the war. In order to express the tension in the war, O Brien depicts the experience of the soldiers by showing the different ways of expression of male love from these soldiers. Although there are many forms of friendship, some of which may vary from place to place, the friendship in the war is the most unique one. As the definition of Friendship, Friendship is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. The bond between soldiers is more intense and real, and this is also the message that Tim O Brien shows in his book by using metaphor, details depicting and technique of repetition. Tim O Brien uses metaphor of photos to express the life before, tie all soldiers together, and thus show the friendship of them. Orwell relates this topic to political and economic issues to show how the use of English is critical with these aspects. He refers to this topic as a reversible process (Orwell 581) if writers follow his six rules; without them the writing contains staleness of imagery and lack of precision. (Orwell 582). Orwell names these tricks: dying metaphors, operators or verbal false limbs, pretentious diction, and meaningless words. The body contains secrets one can only hope to discover. Over the twentieth century, scientists tried to understand one of the most complex concepts in the biological field. DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) was at the forefront of research. Several theories claimed to have solved the structural concept of DNA. However, it was not until Francis Crick and James D. Watson discovered the true structure, the double helix. However, many potential models of DNA had passed through the biology field until eventual lose of credibility. The past models would contain a fixed detail that would make the entire concept invalid. In James D. Watson book, The Double Helix, he illustrates his path amid incorrect theories until he reaches the model that is taught around the world today. One of the flawed theories was model with a sugar phosphate backbone that was at the centre of the molecule. Three chains twisted about each other in a way that gave rise to a crystallographic repeat every 28 A along the helical axis (Watson, 1968). Weak evidence backed up the model; the evidence was indirect. Evidence like the X ray reflection apparently agreed with the model. The reflections also agreed with the quantitative measurements. However, the experience of convergence IASB/FASB shows that many years are necessary to ensure the convergence of two reference frames however based on the same Anglo Saxon culture of the businesses. IASB is at the center of the convergence movement. The IFRS are described like founded on principles, which means that they leave a big freedom of action to the companies about the evaluation of the accounting data. The US GAAP are described like founded on rules and they aim to regulate all the possible aspects of the presentation of the accounts. The introductory paragraphs, coupled with the word carving scene and the concluding final paragraphs, evoke Fa Mu Lan and present Maxine s life as analogous to Fa Mu Lan s life story. While it is understood that they did not know each other, Maxine complicates this relationship , for lack of a better word, by using a first person narrative as opposed to a third person narrative while retelling the fairy tale , which in turn complicates subjectivity of Maxine, and the relationship between Maxine and Fa Mu Lan. Moreover, the words in the word carving scene in the middle of the fairy tale are double symbols of suffering and of perfect filiality, which is a trait common in Chinese culture. John may not regret evading the draft, but he definitely feels the consequences the method in which he chose to evade the draft has brought. As a result of John not having to fear the draft as many of men his age do, he feels disconnected. John recognizes that his generation is anti war because they are afraid of being forced to fight in the war and that is not a fear he has to have. John expresses the disconnect he feels when he says I had a 4 F deferment; I would never have to go to war, or to Canada. By the simple act of removing the first two joints of my right index finger, Owen Meany had enabled me to feel completely detached from my generation (Irving 532). Although fighting in the war is not what John wanted, the way he describes having his finger cut off as a simple act gives the impression that he feels it was a cop out because he could have ran away to Canada and still felt a part of his generation. In addition, John says I was still a little self conscious about my missing finger. The scar tissue was new enough so that any exertion the stump to look inflamed (Irving 532). From the pollutants in the air and water to the litter on the ground, we as humans and organisms living on this world are actively aware of how we are harming it, yet we continue to do the same. A few activists began to protest since the testing was on fault line and they feared it might cause an earthquake leading to a tsunami. These activists were the founders of the Don t Make a Wave Committee which would turn into Greenpeace. The name came during one of their meetings when one of the members, Irving Stowe, flashed the peace sign as was his custom and said Peace . On that occasion, the usually rather quiet Canadian ecologist Bill Darnell made the off hand reply: Make it a green peace. Wife of a US Navy veteran, Marie Bohlen came up with the idea to sail a boat out to the testing site to protest by mere presence. They funded this by hosting a concert and recording that concert on to CDs. Roughly sixteen thousand people attended the concert and they raised over $23,000. They used this money to charter a ship and went to sail out to the site to prevent the testing. The US Navy intercepted them preventing them from accomplishing their mission, but upon return they learned that the media caught wind of this story and the group and their mission gained a lot of public attention. They were unable to prevent that test fire, but the rest of the tests that were planned after that were cancelled and the island was later declared as a bird sanctuary. ( History, n.d.) Basically, all of the Peculiars are the outcasts of the film. When Jake first enters the loop and meets Miss Peregrine, she says a quote that beautifully supports the message.
