Inclusive Design Is Not A Synonym For Accessibility
COMPARISIMS TO ACCESSIBLE DESIGNS The terms Inclusive and accessible design are a
constant source of confusion. Inclusive design is not a synonym for accessibility neither is it a
connotation for the term barrier free design . There are recognised minimum requirements set
for designers that when followed let many individuals the opportunity to access programs and
activities however they may not support their active and full participation; such standards do
not address the sensitivities of sensory and cognitive differences, nor do they address the
changes experienced by the human body over time . Designers may use these codes and
principles as a yardstick but must go beyond them to achieve an Inclusive design . Inclusive
design highlights the importance of meeting the needs of as many users as possible. Designs
may be naturally accommodating or adaptable to meet diverse personal requirements; therefore
it is imperative that inclusive design be included in all stages of the design process. Inclusive
design promotes an integrative approach rather than multiple separate solutions by addressing
the needs of an increasing number of people in a single design solution resulting in the inclusive
involvement of more people in the activities of society while keeping it cost effective .
PRINCIPLES OF INCLUSIVE DESIGN There are five major principles of inclusive design.
Placing people at the heart of the design process is the first principle of Inclusive design .

Domino Theory Research Paper
he United States became involved with the Vietnam War to stop communism spreading throughout
Asia. At first, the US only assisted France with military aid, but after a attack on US destroyers in
the Gulf of Tonkin, they became more involved in direct action. The US also got involved with
Vietnam because they didn t want another country going to communism after what happened to
China. Another factor was the pattern of what had happened in Korea. Northern communists
pushed to put the whole country under communism, then America helps the local anticommunists
to push them back. President Dwight D. Eisenhower brought a New Look into the national security
policy in 1953. The domino theory is, if one country went to communism, the surrounding countries

Erin Blake Quotes
To Catch A Killer is a story that follows Erin, who is a girl who is known by everyone she
encounters. As a young girl she was left alone for three days aside her mother, who had been
murdered. No one knows who had killed her mother and just let Erin live. She is now fourteen, Erin
finds herself in the center of another murderwhen she finds her biology teacher dead. While she is
a little frighten of what happen, Erin thinks this might be connected to her mother s murder. At
the scene of the murder she had spotter her long time crush which becomes a fellow suspect with
Erin. Being very intelligent, she uses her self taught forensic skills as well as her uncles FBI

After her biology teacher had died, she had wanted to find the killer thinking that it might be
connected to her mother s murder. To do so she had needed some DNA, Victor fleming had said,
Fifty percent of human DNA is identical to the DNA of a banana (Scarborough, 78). By this
quote, it shows how Erin was so desperate and willing to risk her reputation to find the killer and
her father. Another example is that she had changed in a emotional, and mental way. She had
gained this crush on Journey Michaels, a popular boy at school. She had said, It s not that I don t
want to see my friends, It s that I m missing Journey. I want the freedom to think about him with no
distractions (Scarborough, 182). Before the murder she has had a huge crush on him and would
usually only think about him during school, but after the murder and they had became friends she
can t stop thinking about him. By this, Erin is being taken by her thought and really only want to
hang with journey and setting her friends

F. Scott Fitzgerald s Eyes Annabel
In 1915 a fourteen year old girl received a letter from her nineteen year old brother. The girl s
name was Annabelle and her brother s F. Scott Fitzgerald. In Fitzgerald s eyes Annabel was a bit
socially inept, and his opening words to her were merciless, You are as you know, not a good
conversationalist and you might very naturally ask, What do boys like to talk about? Boys like to
talk about themselves much more than girls... (Fitzgerald qtd in F. Scott Fitzgerald289) Fitzgerald
then continued on with possible opening lines: How about giving me that sporty necktie when
you re through with it ; and topics to avoid, Don t talk about school . He told her to focus on
dress and poise A good smile and one that could be assumed at, is an absolute necessity . He
counsels her to Learn to be worldly. Remember in all society nine girls out of ten marry for
money and nine men out of ten are fools . And if ten pages of criticisms and unwelcome
recommendations weren t enough, he threatened to send more, I ll discuss dancing in a later
letter . A few years later Fitzgerald scribbled Basis of Bernice on the heading of the letter s first
page. These letters became the basis of the ten thousand word story, Bernice Bobs Her Hair , he
drafted in 1919. Fitzgerald sent his story to numerous magazines yet was met with even more
rejections. Many editors called it clichГ© , boring and trying to please them he cut his manuscript

Volkswagen As A Car Company
The company I have chosen for my project is Volkswagen. Volkswagen is in the automotive
industry. Volkswagen is a German car company that is best known for the punch buggy and their
diesel model cars. Volkswagen mostly produces cheap to mid priced cars. Volkswagen has always
been one of the most successful companies in the automobile industry.
Volkswagenhas always been a very large competitor in automotive industry, however recently
Volkswagen has seen a drop in sales due to a discovery made by the EPA. The EPA found that
diesel engine cars made by Volkswagen had a program that lowered emissions readings when the
cars were tested. So when the car was tested the reading would show the car was producing a lower
amount of emissions then it actually was. Volkswagen recently came out in September and
admitted they placed the program in their cars and cheated the emissions testing. More than ten
million Volkswagen cars have been effected by this scandal. So what does this mean for
Volkswagen?
First off this causes a shift in demand. Because of the news of Volkswagen cheating on
emissions testing people aren t going to trust them or their cars and this is going to cause a
decrease in demand. One of the demand shifters that we learned in class was taste and
preferences. Taste and preferences is a shifter that would decrease the demand of Volkswagen.
Many people buying cars today prefer buying a car that produces less emissions because it s better
for the environment. One of the

Use Of Satire In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
The Prioress s Tale in The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a controversial piece of
Chaucer s novel. The controversy about this section of the novel regards Chaucer s mentioning of
the Jewish people, and his exact reasoning for mentioning the Jewish people. Some believe that
Chaucer mentions the Jewish people to portray the Prioress s anti semitism; some believe that
Chaucer himself mentions the Jewish people because of his racism towards them. Many have
interpreted the tale either way, with evidence to support both sides of the argument. The tale itself,
displays vivid details regarding the use of the Jewish people, which does not benefit Chaucer s
claims of not being an anti semite in an England that did not accept Jewsequally.... Show more

Chaucer s anti semitism is not clear cut, but the idea that the tale is a form of satire does not
seem clear as well. Using outside knowledge from the novel, one can make a good inference as
to how Chaucer may seem like an anti semite. The outside facts apply to Chaucer thinking like a
member of his society and believing in anti semitism. Chaucer s excellent detail also can
symbolize some very gruesome things as well which would leave one to wonder how that could
possibly be satire. The historical context also applies to what the tale is based on, so it may seem
difficult to apply satire to an event that was actually saddening in that

The Role Of Sports For Athletes And Women Athletes
Marketisation and commoditisation provide leverage for powerful nations to assert their
dominance over their sport competitors by, for instance, buying their best athletes from the
dominated countries and sometimes offering those athletes citizenship. There are instances when
international corporate entities sponsor and own clubs in other countries, make all management
decisions, and secure profits which they return to their home countries thereby leaving host
countries further impoverished (Nauright 2012:54).The above global pattern has not favored most
womens national and local teams as most corporate entities prefer to sponsor national mens teams.
Both the commodification and corporatization of sport reduce especially womens ... Show more

Local leagues face serious challenges due to inability to raise funds as a result of reduced
quality of play resulting in poor stadium attendance that mean fewer facilities, and as indicated
earlier, this lack of facilities has a trickle down effect on accessibility of facilities for women in
sports. Due to globalisation, national teams go into a stage of dependent development an example
is the English soccer teams as a result of the presence of foreign players in the league system
denying most of the local clubs eventually has a negative effect the national team (Maguire
2013:200).
Globalisation has also impacted on local sport participation by way of administrative practices. For
example, Carter (2002) documents the rise of global administrative bodies (such as FIFA and OIC)
and FIVF (Vanderhoof 2011) that oversee and regulate various sports. Similarly, MacAloon (1984)
discusses how the modern Olympic movement highlights the diffusion of sports forms and
organisation across the globe. These organisations also continue empowering males (e.g., the
amount of money FIFA gives to mens soccer teams during the World Cups is greater than the
amount they give to womens teams). Such inequities sometimes serve as deterrents to female
participants and thereby compromise efforts to create equality between the sexes (Grainey
2012:23). The internationalisation as well as the internationality of sports can

computers. Are there particular categories of products or users who might see Linux as more
appealing than conventional operating systems? Do you think Linux s share of the desktop market
will increase? Why or why not?
Linux, or what is here and there known as Unix on a lesser scale is considered and
institutionalized on the premise of an open source framework and free for conveyance (Eckert,
2016). The principle reason we see Linux utilized on a constrained premise is because we live in a
prevalently Windows Operating System world. Another component conflicting with Linux is that
being open source, you need to go get it and really put it on the PC yourself as a client and this is
something that numerous clients are somewhat hesitant to attempt and fulfill. A third variable that...

Too Big to Fail
Can banks become too big to fail , and should they be allowed to stay that way? On September
15th 2008, the investment bank Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy. It was, and still is, the
biggest bankruptcy filing in U.S. history , with Lehman s holding $691 billion in assets at the
time. The event was the catalyst for the current financial crisis. By the end of trading that day,
$700bn had been wiped off the global stock markets. The Dow Jones had plummeted 500 points,
its biggest drop since the terrorist attacks of 9/11 . Despite rumours and knowledge that Lehman s
was struggling, with its share price dropping daily, the huge drop in the financial markets was due
to the huge shock. No one had been expecting this, as it was anticipated... Show more content on

Furthermore, their size and capital allows them to provide those services at cheaper rates than
their smaller counterparts. The large banks can achieve much greater levels of economies of
scale. Studies by Boyd and Heitz have shown that larger banks, (defined as having assets of over
$50 billion), have higher scale economies than their smaller counterparts . The mean measure of
scale economies in the banking industry is 1.145, whilst the larger banks had a mean of 1.25,
implying that they were therefore 9.2% more efficient than the rest of the industry. They hereby
estimated that the larger banks economies of scale increased their contribution to national output
by 9.2%. These proponents argue that the social benefits derived from these economies of scale
are beneficial enough to prevent the stricter reforms and changes being discussed by governments
around the world from being implemented. One of the main arguments against banks becoming
too big to fail is that a moral hazard problem occurs. Moral hazard is a basic economic concept,
whereby one party entering a transaction will take more risky actions if they know they have
insurance against the outcomes of those actions. At present, too big to fail banks have a variety of
systems emplaced by the government, which protect them in the event that they run into financial
difficulty. For example, in the U.S. the banks creditors get federal deposit

speeches is the rhetorical devices, word choice, tone, persuasive appeals including many others,
granting the ability of a stronger claim. The speakers Former President Barack Obama, and
President Donald Trump incorporate similar ideas and how these ideas had been portrayed
throughout their speeches. There are other essential details that fortified their speech, contrariwise
there were details that hindered their speech, displaying weaknesses when discussing certain points.
The affinity between the two speeches is intricately filled with minutiae making them harder to spot
in comparison to the distinction amongst both. Although, Former President Obama s speech had
plenty of emotionally inducing words, Trump s speech was more effectively written with
informative statements strengthening his speech.
Furthermore, the speakers benefit from the use of rhetorical devices such as anaphora, parallelism,
and even epistrophe, however, this is where the similarities come to a near end. The format in
which these rhetorical devices were used, or how they were used creates complications when it
comes to determining the correlation or lack of correlation between the speeches. The structure and

MRAP Program Essay
The Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) program differ from a normal procurement
program by being a relatively available commercial off the shelf (COTS) vehicle, senior
leadership involvement, and ample funding. The MRAP program acquisition methodology
should not be repeated for other major defense acquisition programs. Improvised Explosive
Devices (IED) became a wicked problem for the U.S. military in Iraq, especially for the ground
forces. The MRAP program was a leadership driven, a partial operational solution, not a strategic
solution. Accordingly, the MRAP program showcased positive and negative effects of a rapid
acquisition process. Strategic leaders must allow operational and tactical leaders to define

The MRAP program followed the normal defense acquisition process, but some aspects of the
program cannot be duplicated easily. Conatser and Grizio outlined four requirements for a rapid
acquisition process mature technical solution, user s acceptance of a short term solution, full
support by the leadership, and full funding. The MRAP program met all these requirements.
There were several MRAP type vehicles already in full production mode that just needed to be
mass produced. Using multiple vendors allowed quick mass production of MRAPs. Although
later shown to be insufficient to defeat all IED threats as the Insurgents increased the size of
IEDs and used Explosive Formed Projectiles (EFP), the commanders in Iraq accepted MRAPs.
There were several politicians pushing the U.S. military to procure MRAPs quickly as possible.
In 2007, Secretary Gates made MRAP the top DoD acquisition priority. Lastly, the Congress
allocated sufficient funding for the MRAP program. Secretary Carter cites the MRAP program as
an example of how much can be accomplished with the full backing of leaders in Congress and the

The Effect Of Ph On The Rate Of Photosynthesis
Maggie Morris
Leaf Disks: The Rise from Bottom to Top
ABSTRACT
This experiment demonstrates the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis by examining the
behavior of leaf disks in different pH solutions under light. In this experiment, we used five
different pH levels: pH 5, pH 6, pH 7, pH 8 and pH 9. These solutions were created using a
combination of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. Spinancia olcerea or spinach, leaves were
used in the experiment to examine the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis. The rate of
photosynthesis was measured by counting the number of leaf disks that rose to the surface of the
solution after each minute. In acidic solutions, the rate of photosynthesis increased while in basic
solutions, the rate of photosynthesis decreased.
DESIGN (D)
DEFINING THE PROBLEM AND SELECTING VARIABLES The intention of this experiment is
to determine the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis in living leaves. Photosynthesis is a
process by which plants convert light energy captured from the sun into chemical energy which
they use to perform various plant functions. During the photosynthesis process, light, carbon dioxide
, and water react to produce products: sugar and oxygen. The equation for photosynthesis is:
Photosynthesis occurs in the palisade mesophyll of plant leaves. During photosynthesis, carbon
dioxide is broken up into 6 carbon for the sugar molecule and 12 oxygen. In this lab, I determined
the rate of photosynthesis in spinach

In Plato S Euthyphro, Socrates And Euthyphro Discuss The
In Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates and Euthyphro discuss the nature of piety. Euthyphro first proposed
that piety is that which the gods love. His proposal was quickly objected by Socrates though, since
the gods often disputed amongst themselves and therefore what one loves can be what another
hates. Euthyphrothen revised his hypothesis to say that piety is that which the gods love
unanimously and for the moment this was their conclusion. This definition however, that piety is
what the gods love unanimously, further proposed the question of whether the gods love the pious
because it is pious or whether the pious is pious solely because the gods love it. If it is true that
the gods love the pious because it is pious then the definition of... Show more content on

In saying that things are not good by virtue of any rule of goodness but solely by virtue of the will
of God, it seems to me that we unknowingly destroy all of God s love and all his glory. For why
praise him for what he has done if he would be equally praiseworthy in doing the exact contrary?
(1)Therefore there must be some moral standards independent of God that would be right or
wrong regardless of his being. This conclusion creates another problem, it could mean that God
has no freewill as he can not then act outside of the presupposed good morals and therefore can
not make his own decisions. If there are moral standards independent of God and his will then
that would limit God s sovereignty. It binds God to something that makes him not independent.
Instead of the good being established by him he is established by what is good and in essence a
new god is created. This is used as a common argument for atheism, For if morality can exist
without God there is no need to answer for the inherent sense of morale that humanity has in some
context no matter what culture they are raised in.
There are also those who would believe in the divine command theory, otherwise known as
voluntarism. One philosopher named Duns Scotus held the opinion that the ten commandments do
not all follow the natural law. In other words not everything God commands the world to obey is
inherently morale to the world. Scotus believed that while

Summary Of Soledad Brother By George Jackson
Hope is a Necessity In a world that is so unpredictable, sometimes there is nothing else that a
person can do to make a situation better besides hoping for a good outcome. Hope can have a
big impact on the way people view the world, and can potentially save lives. Hope is
communicated in many ways, including a variety of art forms, such as literature. Some examples
of literature that show how powerful having hope can be are the novel Soledad Brother by George
Jackson, the short storySalvation by Langston Hughes, the short story Superheroes, Just for Each
Other by Peter S. Goodman and the article Man Needs Hope to Live, by Christopher Kaczor.
These literary works show that even the smallest bit of hope can help a person make wiser
decisions regarding his or her future, but having no hope for the future leads people to make
choices that are ethically wrong.
Soledad Brother by George Jackson is a piece of literature that shows that hope can sway a person
s decision about the actions that he or she takes. The novel is written in the stream of consciousness
writing style. All the letters that Jackson writes show that he has hatred towards the system in
which he is living in. Jackson was sentenced to one year to life in jail. Even though Jackson has
some repulsive thoughts about the police officers and their ideas, he does nothing to express his
opinion about the police officers, such as starting an argument or fight with the police officers,
because he has hope that if

The Dream Of The Rood Essay
Salvation Since the start of Christianity, it is said that the way of life is only to seek salvation. In
the poem, The Dream of the Rood, it is assumed to have been written in the 8th century, but there is
no exact time or authorship. By the 8th century, most of Anglo Saxon England were Christian. This
was a time where Roman Catholic Christianitywas being shaken to the core by other entities, such
as paganism and Islamic invaders. The Dream of the Rood is intended to persuade people into
Christianity, salvation and acknowledging the power of God. At the start of the poem, the narrator
is having a dream where he is speaking to the cross on which JesusChrist was crucified. He is
astound by the beauty of the gems decorating the cross but also seems to be alarmed by the drops
of blood that are smeared on the gems and on the side of the cross. There is an indication of the
narrator s struggle; his struggle of faith. The author indicates the following quote to plant the idea
of a man in distress due to his crippling faith:
This was surely no felon s gallows, for holy spirits beheld it, men upon earth, and all this glorious
creation. Wonderful was the triumphant tree, and I stained with sin, wounded with wrongdoing. I
saw the tree of wonder, adorned with clothes, shine brilliantly, decked with gold;
Torres 2 splendidly had jewels covered the Lord s tree. But through that gold I might see wretches

Essay about The Poet by Paul Laurence Dunbar
The Poet by Paul Laurence Dunbar
Before we pass on from this world it would be nice if we had left our mark, given our
contribution, made our claim in the history of human civilization. Wouldn t it be wonderful to
achieve such a goal? Wouldn t it be horrible to have attained that level of recognition and yet be
recognized for things you deemed inferior? In the poem The Poet , Paul Laurence Dunbar
expresses his remorse at having written superior Standard English literature and yet only be known
and praised for his Dialect works. The first way Dunbar achieves this meaning is by his use of
language. When Dunbar is talking about standard English poetry he speaks of life, serenely sweet
/ With, now and then, a deeper tone (Dunbar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He continues to use romantic almost even melodramatic language to bring to mind images of
earlier times that were better than the dreary world of his day. In the last lines of the poem the
language changes and expresses grief over the fact that the general public only recognizes him
for his Dialect works. Dunbar writes But ah, the world, it turned to praise/ A jingle in a broken
tongue (Dunbar 7 8). Here he is mocking the Dialect tradition, as he doesn t consider it to be
poetry. He refers to it as a jingle , which causes the reader to think of advertisements and selling out
. We know that he was talking about the Dialect tradition by his use of the words broken tongue .
By calling Dialect tradition a broken tongue , Dunbar is referring to his own feelings that the white
s attempt at capturing the African American s speech by Dialect tradition is a poor, if not incorrect,
representation. Even though not many blacks in the day thought the Dialect tradition illustrated
their true speech, they were confined to use what they had. Because that style of writing was so
popular at the time, Dunbar s Dialect pieces got more notoriety than his standard English; and
unfortunately the latter he felt was of higher quality.
Another way Dunbar criticizes his inability to escape the brand of a Dialect poet is in the structure
of the poem. About three quarters of the poem is Dunbar speaking about his standard English works.

Industry Analysis With the expansion of world economy, surfing is not only a sport but also a life
style and that leads to high demand of surfing products. The number of firms enters that industry
keep increasing as its attractive potential profits and less barrier to enter into that industry. Both
companies have more bargaining power compared with their supplier and customer as their
famous brand and diversified products could encourage suppliers to have long term business

this industry are optimistic; it did not shock too much under the downturn of economy. Surfing is
an increasingly popular and well known culture; companies need to continuing innovation in
order to satisfy customer s needs. b. Competitive Analysis As number of firms in the industry
keeps increasing, greater competition force firms to earn more market share, innovate substitutes,

industry. For example, some of the products of Billabong and Quiksilver are similar, consumer
will choose to buy the one with lower price if they have similar function, or buy the one with

Essay about Film Techniques in What s Eating Gilbert Grape
What s Eating Gilbert Grape?
Film Techniques related to theme
Theme: Struggle and Hardship
In the film What s Eating Gilbert Grape? directed by Lasse Hallstrom in 1993, one of the main
ideas is that of struggle and hardship. This idea is significant to the film because it relates to each
character in a different way, making the storyline more interesting. Three different techniques
used by Lasse Hallstrom to illustrate the idea of struggle and hardship include Gilberts voice
over, the extra close ups of Bonnie as she climbs the stairs and the double up of dialogue, where
Mrs Carver is talking to Gilbert, and Mr Carver is heard tying to entertain their children in
background.
One character that suffers from struggle and hardship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This technique relates to the idea of struggle and hardship, because it would be both a hardship
for Gilbert to live in such a boring town, and a struggle to make a living where there is an
apparent lack of people, meaning a lack of customers and money.
Another character that suffers from struggle and hardship is Bonnie Grape. Towards the end of
the film, Bonnie, who is an obese woman and the mother of Gilbert, Arnie, Amy and Ellen, is
seen struggling up the stairs to her bedroom. Lasse Hallstrom used extra close up shots of her
hands gripping the railing, her pained and determined face, and her feet on the steps. These shots
had the purpose of indicating to the audience what a difficult task this was for her, and by
focusing on her hands feet and face, they also helped to show how she was straining herself,
because of her weight. This technique helps to show the idea of struggle and hardship, because her
excess weight is a hardship she has had to deal with, and moving around, let alone climbing the
stairs, is a definite struggle for her.
Two more characters that suffer from struggle and hardship in the film are Mr and Mrs Carver.
This is shown through the double up of dialogue about three quarters of the way through the film,
when Mrs Carver is talking to Gilbert about how upset he?d made her, and Mr Carver could be
heard in the background, trying to entertain their children. This technique allows the audience to
experience

Characteristics Of Hard Discount
I. Hard discount model
a.Creation and development of this model in Germany
Firstly, I think that it is necessary to define what hard discount is to better understand how this
model works and how it has changed through the time. Hard discount store is a store that sells
mainly food in free service and this business model is also characterized by its low prices, small
retail space and a limited assortment of products. We can find some brands in hard discounters, but
it represents a minority. The reduced staff and the versatility of this one is another characteristic of
this business model.
Hard discount found its origins in Germany at the end of the 40s. Launched by the Albrecht
brothers, founders of Aldi, this new way of consuming is a success in Germany since the late 60s
and for the rest of Europe in the 80s. This revolution has known success in Germany with brands

of hard discount model was clearly in the 90s. In 2009, the 2 Germans companies were in the top
10 global grocery retailers, so it is significant of the success of this revolution.
Hard discount needs a special organization. This business model has to respect some rules, such as
prices below average, few marketing, few decoration, a small staff, a maximum of 800 product

The Thoracic Ventricle
II MDCT angiography of the thoracic aorta:
At the point when an acute aortic syndrome (AAS) is suspected (owing either to clinical
manifestations or to chest radiographic findings), non enhanced CT is usually done first to search a
high attenuation acute intramural hematoma (IMH). The contrast enhanced scanning, which take
after is the key part of the CT examination. The right timing of the entry of contrast material in the
aorta is basic to picture quality. Approaches to accomplishing this incorporate a timing bolus or a
bolus tracking technique (Kazerooni et al, 2009).
Technical procedures: Previously, ECG gating has fundamentally been retrospective gating with
which information are gathered over the whole cardiac cycle. This allows review of aortic valve
morphologic features on static images at end systole and end diastole, measurement of aortic valve
surface area and the review of valve leaflet motion in cine mode. Inadequate coaptation of the valve
leaflets relates to regurgitation, and a confined opening relates to stenosis (Gilkeson et al., 2006).
Additionally, the more up to date prospective triggering technique gathers CT information just at a
specified point or cluster of points in the heart cycle, decreasing the time the CT beam is on to a
fraction of what it was with retrospective gating, thus considerably decreasing the radiation dose
(Shuman et al., 2008).
The development of MSCT with more than 16 detector rows has enabled

Analysis Of Interior Of The Pantheon, Roman By Giovanni...
Interior of the Pantheon, Rome (1734) is a remarkable painting by Giovanni Paolo Panini who is
best known for his prospects on Rome in which he focussed on the city s famous sites. His works
largely have a fancy and unreal adornment feature of capriccio themes. The Pantheon is a former
Roman temple which is now a church in Rome. It is one of the best preserved Ancient Roman
Buildings which is also popular for the geometric wonder that it is. It demonstrates the theory of
2:3 correlation between the volume of a cylinder and a sphere. The Pantheon being one of the main
tourist attractions in Rome, Panini s depiction of this architectural model is populated with a lively
mix of Romans and other foreign visitors who are visiting the Pantheon to admire the marvellous
architecture, chat, and to pray. Panini being a trained expert in theatrical design and architecture
has provided a larger view of the interiors of Pantheon than what is possible in real from a single
point. The viewpoint is intense while it faces the entrance. Panini s attempt to show the bright blue
sky through the oculus in the centre of the dome just adds to the magnificence of the painting. The
psychic line towards the sunlight creates a soft feeling that is not too harsh on eyes but directs the
vision to the right point. The ground is a terracotta coloured layer that is reddish and contains
several translucent white pigments to provide a certain depth. The lines were incised using
straightedge into the

A Comparison Of Hills Like White Elephants And Happy Endings
Hills like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway and Happy Endings by Margaret Atwood share a
gender oriented theme. They both show women struggling to attain equality against their male
partners. This theme is depicted through the use of symbolism, point of view and plot conflict.
Symbolically, Hills like White Elephants represents a choice. It is a life choice that can t be undone
once it is made. This choice is about whether or not Jig, the female character of the story, should
get an abortion. It supports the theme because if Jig chooses to keep the baby she is defying the
wishes of her male partner, who is simply referred to as the man, and taking a stand for women
by doing so. However it is not entirely clear what choice she makes at the end of the story. Her
only words being, I feel fine...There s nothing wrong with me. I feel fine (216). The interpretation
some people take for this is that she decided to keep the baby and chose to defy male domination.
In Happy Endings the main symbols are how the relationships end be it cheating, age, or health
complications. Cheating is symbolic of the relationship being dominated by only one person
involved in it. Age is symbolic of both partners sharing or being equal in the relationship. Lastly
health complications are a way of saying that fate, be it good or bad, can be involved, or that not
everything works out according to plan. These are all related to the idea that by placing a dominant
person in the relationship

The Red Convertible By Louise Erdrich
In the short story The Red Convertible, by Louise Erdrich, there are multiple literary devices
used throughout. However, Erdrich most commonly utilizes theme and symbolism. She uses
certain themes throughout most of her work, as noted by Keri L. Overall in a literary analysis.
Indeed, the themes of Erdrich s stories range from the effects of war on families and personal
identity to loss of heritage and family and personal relationships. Erdrich also employs the use
of symbolism in this story, to great effect. Furthermore, the two most important themes in this
story are Brotherhood and War time trauma, while the most important symbol is the red
convertible. The first theme that is prevalent throughout the story is Brotherhood. The focus of
The Red Convertible is the relationship between Henry and Lyman. Lyman tells this story in
order to honor his brother s memory. Erdrich s piece is told from Lyman s point of view, so the
reader does not know Henry s motivations or thoughts. However, his behavior shows that he
loved his brother dearly, and held their relationship in high regard. When Henry was preparing to
depart for Vietnam, he chose to give Lyman the car that had been a vessel of happiness for them
both. One can deduce from this action that Henry did not know if he would survive the war. After
Henry came back from Vietnam, he was a polar opposite of the man he used to be. When Lyman
damaged the car so that Henry would have to fix it, he understood what Lyman

The Portrait Of Marie Antoinette
The artwork I decided to do my research and write about is the portrait of Marie Antoinette with
her Children. I found this portrait very interested in me; I am going to give you a brief
information on the artist of the artwork. This portrait was by Elisabeth Louise Vigee Lerun and the
portrait is oil on canvas, 9 ВЅ x 7 5/8 . The portrait was created in 1700 in France. It s a portrait of a
French queen who is Marie Antoinettealong with her children as a good mother to her children,
but there is no sign of the father in the portrait. The portrait is a loving mother of four children,
but only three are shown in the portrait because of the children deceased. Also I see the portrait
of a single mother who is a loving mother who love her children daily and have a space of
emptiness because of the loss of her child who processed into his death at 11 months old.
The artist of the portrait is Elisabeth Vigee Lebrun. She was born in Paris on April 16, 1755. She
was the daughter of Louis Vigee who was a pastel painter of moderate talent and devoted to his
artwork. When Elisabeth turned eleven her education was considered complete, she then left
school for good to return home to her parents and to pursue her dream as a painter like her father.
While back at home with her parents, she spend many of her hours in her father s studio
experimenting to her heart s content with his crayons, and dutifully accompanied her mother, who,
we are told, was good to the point of austerity,

Investigating The Three Hormones Involved During The...
Identify and discuss the three hormones involved in the regulation of plasma calcium
concentrations. Explain why it is misleading to state that calcitonin lowers the plasma calcium
concentration.
Calcium circulates in the plasma in three different forms: ionized calcium, protein bound calcium
and in complexes formed with anions found in the blood. Although ionized calcium accounts for
only half of the circulating levels of calcium, it is essential for several important cell functions, such
as muscular contraction, cellular signalling, exocytosis and bone composition. Therefore, it is
necessary that the concentration of the ion in the blood stream is kept within a considerably strict
range.
Besides the dietary calcium intake, the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to its hydrophilic nature, the hormone produces its effects by binding to a surface receptor on
target cells, PTH1R, which is coupled to G protein, triggering the cAMP pathway. By doing that,
PTH exerts rapid effects by stimulating calcium reabsorption in the kidneys, elevating resorption of
skeletal hydroxyapatite by osteoclasts and indirectly increasing intestinal calcium uptake by
promoting calcitriol synthesis in the kidneys by upregulating the activity of cytochrome P450
hydroxylases. Interestingly, it also stimulates osteoblasts to release RANKL molecules, which
indirectly results in an increased osteoclastic bone resorption. Moreover, PTH secretion induces a
higher excretion of phosphate ions in the urine, recruiting part of the calcium that is bound to
anions in the blood.
Another hormone involved in the regulation of calcium levels is calcitriol. Differently from the
other two hormones discussed in this text, vitamin D, as it is also known, is a hydrophobic peptide
hormone and thus acts via its nuclear receptor (VDR) in a slower, steroid like mechanism. By
activating its receptor, this hormone regulates gene promotion via nuclear response elements
(VDRE). This way, vitamin D stimulates the upregulation of calcium transporters in the
gastrointestinal tract, resulting in an increase in plasma calcium levels by raising the ion uptake.
Moreover, it also induces a higher renal reabsorption of calcium and promotes bone resorption,
increasing

The flag is raised when someone decides they want to know everything that is happening on the
network and they have no right to view that information. This wouldn t be that big of a deal if
ARP poisoning was a computing intensive process or too complex for the average user to

knowledge, readily available software for network diagnostics and the ability to follow directions.
The attacker doesn t even have to know a programming language. Considering the power of ARP
poisoning, it s dangerous to have potentially unskilled and malicious people exploiting this network
administration technique. Not only will most of the attackers have access to private information
about other users on a local area network, but most of them won t know what they are doing. It
will create the euphoric feeling of hacking a network, making them feel empowered. This can lead
them to make irrational decisions, possibly leaking confidential information, damaging a

possibility to shut down an entire network. The phrase shut down an entire network should be

Perso-Islamic Synthesis Essay
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the Islamization of Persia in relation to the Samanid and
Buyid Dynasties. The synthesis of Persian culture and Islam was not an immediate result of the
Arab expansion into Iran and there is certainly a lack of research on the subject. However, in this
essay, I will attempt to explain the contributions of the Samanid and Buyid dynasties to this
synthesis with a focus on the attempts of the Samanid Dynasty at centralization and a unified
identity through religion, language and culture.

This period marked significant changes for Persia since there was a large movement of immigration
directed towards the region from the Arabian Peninsula.
After Persia was conquered, the people began to convert to Islam and landowners gave their
properties to Islam and were granted even more land as a result of the conversion. Further, the
Zoroastrians were in fact the ones most enraged by the conversion to Islam as they were involved
in occupations that involved impurities such as working with fire, etc. Missionaries did not really
encounter much opposition as it became quite easy to convert the Persians into Islam alluding to
the fact that there were already many similarities and that transforming, or converting, was really
not such a hard task. Muslim leaders would also win conversions by attending public Muslim
prayers, promising money and allowing for the Qur an to be recited in Persian and not Arabic, so
that all could understand what the Qur an was really trying to say. The Samanids, who were
originally based in the Zoroastrian nobility, started their own conversion process encouraging
people become Sunni Muslims. In fact, during the reign of the Samanids in the 9th century, the Qur

The Musical Theatre Of America
Musical Theatre in America
Before the 20th century, people used music and dancing to tell stories, but it had nothing to do with
developing musical theater. Musical theatre is a type of play that tells a story through songs,
spoken dialogue, and dancing. During the 20th century, there was a lot of change going on in
Musical Theatre. Musicals are different from other types of stage works such as opera because a
musical would not be a musical without the music, story line, or dancing. European operetta was
becoming more popular than American Musical Theatre. The two main types of opera that were
being made were called ballad operas and comic operas which had romantic plots. American
composers sought to come up with something new, since Musical Theatre was not very popular
with the general public. There were a lot of components that helped shape musical theatre in
America , but most think that it was mainly developed because of the different tastes developing,
likeable styles, spirit and energy by composers in America, it was not. Although musical theaters
origins are not certain, Musical theatre gradually developed using influences of ballad opera, comic
opera, operetta, vaudeville, and burlesque.
Musical theatre had not been called musicals , although there were previous stage entertainments.

Cloning, The, And False Interpretations Of Cloning
Cloning, an ethical issue that has been pressed across the globe, has become a substantial debate
throughout a majority of nations. The incorporation of a new type of reproduction in the United

The incorporation of cloning in America has been long pondered on by scientists, government

Enjoy a splash in the water while vacationing in the American West As summer approaches, there
s only one way to beat the heat lakeside! According to a 2005 summers survey conducted by the

summer splashing in lakes or heading to the beach for their vacation. Whether you re planning a
weekend away or spontaneously hitting the road, some of the best lakeside vacation destinations
reside within our own National Park system. The U.S. National Park system offers a wide variety
of destination and accommodation options at some of the most magnificent lakes in the country,

The Desert Is No Place For A Man And Cormac Mccarthy
The desert is no place for a man and Cormac McCarthy makes that perfectly clear from the onset of
Blood Meridian. At first, it s hard to tell which will be more desolate and brutal: the environment or
the men that traverse it. However, McCarthy initially seems to establish that unbridled nature will
triumph over man every time regardless of the circumstance. If natureis God, then man is hopeless
to stand against it. Yet McCarthy makes an important distinction between nature as it exists in
the wild and nature that has been tamed by man. Although a lot of his depiction of nature comes
from the landscape, he uses animals in a telling way to prove a larger point: nature is only so
powerful until it is conquered by men. It is an obvious approach to look at the ways in which the
landscape and the desert environment domineer over the gang of men throughout the novel. Less
obvious, and at the same time, painfully overt, is the role that wild animals take within the
framework of the story. The Judge is quoted as saying that God speaks in stones and trees, the
bones of things (116) and the overall understanding of this message is that god resides in nature;
the force of nature is the force of god.
This force is seen clearly the first time someone in the band is attacked by a bear. The first
compelling part in this scene is the way the men s horses react to the bear. One horse was
described as falling backward and [the Delaware] was trying to turn it, beating it about the head

My Dance In Dance
The lights are on me and the other performers on stage. The crowd is cheering so loud the music
can t even be heard. Hearing them cheer made me push myself harder than I already was. I can
hear the crowd screaming my name and which made me feel confident in my dancing. The whole
first floor of the auditorium was filled with people shouting at their top of their lungs. Performing
in front of a crowd just fills me with adrenaline and makes me forget about the world. It s almost
as if I m free even though I have a choreography to follow.
Ever since I was a little kid I was always in love with the arts. I would always draw, color, and
paint something. My favorite class in elementary class was art and I wanted to be an artist at that
time.. As time went by I changed my mind after falling in love with the movie Pirates of the
Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. I wanted to be in a movie just like that. I kept dreaming
of becoming an actor but I didn t do anything. I was too shy to ever join the drama club in 5th
grade and middle school. When high school came along I decided to put my shyness to the side and
take the drama class because if I wanted to be an actor I had to take action.
After the first day of class I instantly fell in love with it and was glad I took the decision in
taking that class. I also joined the drama club and I fell in love with the arts more. Taking the
drama classes and joining the drama was the best decision I ever did and it made my high school

Multinational Corporation s Influence on Government Policy; Case Study of
PT. Freeport Indonesia
In the last few decades of the 20th century, the rapid transformation of the industrial world took a
new form. The economy is one of the areas experiencing striking changes in these times. What is
certain is the emergence of multinational companies, to some extent, open up opportunities for
economic globalization. The economic growth in the 19th century in many developed countries are
originated from international capital movements that growing rapidly at the time. Mobility of
factors of production that occurred between the states reached its breaking point with the presence
of multinational companies. Perhaps, the most important developments in international economic
relations during the last three decades is the amazing surge of strength and influence of large
multinational corporations. They are the main distributor of various factors of production, capital,
labor and production technology, all in a massive scale, from one country to another.
In the mid 1960s the Third World was inviting foreign capital in the form of Multinational

Essay On How He Cheated
How he cheated and how I chose to stay Have you ever felt the feeling of finding the right guy?
The guy who fits in the puzzle? The perfect guy who fills your stomach with butterflies, the guy
who you tell all your aspirations and the only person where you lose all your inhibitions with. If
you ve never felt it. He will come, he s just there around the corner waiting for the right moment to
reach you. If you have, isn t it fantastic? Magic, sparks, although complicated, because you also
needto reciprocate the same fantastic things he makes you feel. You need to learn what he likes,
what he doesn t. What works for him and what does not. It seems like an arduous task, but the

Ironically and luckily for me, I haven t seen them. They planned on meeting up, I never thought that
these three words were meant to break you, Want to hang? and there, I fell apart. It was hell like.
My friends and I used to joke about how we re going straight to hell because of the meanness
intact with our personalities, but I think, I raced them there. It was infuriating and I was so
anxious about my shortcomings. Was it my fault? I wanted to cry endlessly but I remembered
his promise. A few months back, he gave me a silver commitment ring, engrossed with the
words, I m willing to wait for it, and that gave me hope. I don t want to believe that it was faux,
that he wasn t really willing to wait for our love to prosper, to solidify, or to overcome our
catches. Instead, I chose to believe that promise. As I quote Blair Waldorf again for the
hundredth time, If you really want something, don t stop for anyone or anything until you get it.
My battle cry sounds a little masochistic, or completely masochistic, but I ve decided, I ve made
up my mind, and I m going to face his catch, I will stay. I was head over heels for this guy for
about a month, I had the audacity to walk up to him and talk to him, why stop now? I always tell
myself, to my friends even, that I m a strong and an independent person. So, I confronted him, he
apologized a million times, and hell I don t believe any of it. But, he made a promise, I asked him

Feminist In Margaret Atwood s The Penelopiad
The Penelopiad is a novel written by Margaret Atwood a Canadian born female with strong
opinions and even stronger viewpoints. Margaret started her career as a writer in 1961 when she
published her first poetry book. She has written many books and novels. Atwood has denied that her
work is feminist in many occasions but when we further inspect The Penelopiadwe get the feeling
that this is indeed a very feminist novel. The Penelopiad is the story of Penelope the wife of
Odysseusand mother of Telemachus son of Odysseus. We get to hear her side of the story in this
novel. Odysseus is the main character in Homers the Odyssey. Unlike the odyssey The Penelopaid
does not revolve around the strong brave man who sailed off to battle Troy. It is about... Show more

Penelope says it was made special, but we can conclude that this is Odysseus being possessive
and oppressive he made this bed because if he ever heard anyone talking about it he would know
Penelope had cheated on him. He uses this to control her and keep her loyal, but he can sleep
with whomever he wants. Penelope must hear stories of Odysseus and his adventures and orgies
with the nymphs and goddesses, but she is not allowed to cheat. Here we see a strong example
of gender roles. It is believed that wen a man cheats he s a player, a seducer of women, but a
woman who cheats is a called something awful and is shun upon by all. Women are to be
submissive to men regardless of how old they are we get to see this in the Penelopaid when we
hear how Telemachus talks to his mother asserting himself as head of the house even though he
is if anything a teenager. In the article written by Mary Beard, Silencing women an age old
practice we get an idea of just how much gender role inequality there is in this novel. Beard points
out also an instance where in the Odyssey we see Telemachus act like he is better because he is
man and no respect towards his mother, go back up into your quarters,

The Measurement Of Team Success
So what is the measurement of team success in professional sports? Is it number of wins? Is it
the number of division titles or championships? Or is it the number of sellouts or amount of team
revenue? Whatever it may be, the types of players you have on your team is important to reach
any level of success. So how much money should a team spend on their players? Salaries of
professional sports players are way higher that the average person. Lately, salaries of players in the
National Basketball Associationare increasing year after year. Even with a salary cap, teams can
now spend more money on highly gifted athletes in hopes to bring division titles and
championships to their respective organizations. So does spending more money on player
salaries guarantee a winning team? Now you could go into free agency, and sign some of the
biggest stars in all of basketball and think to yourself that you will be poised for a shot at a
championship that year. However, just because you pay a top tier player, it doesn t guarantee that
they will stay healthy. There are many outlying factors to a player s performance. From the
research I have found, the results are mixed regarding the relationship between team salary and
performance. If an NBA team spends more money on player salaries, this does not guarantee a
better team performance. In 2013, an article on basesandbaskets.com compared NBA team salaries
to their regular season wins totals. This study found that it was about split,

A Commercialized Christmas Essay
One can almost cut through the irony of hearing Bing Crosby sing It s beginning to look a lot like
Christmas on the radio when the temperature is sixty and the first frost of winter is still weeks

with this typical rush promoted between important festivities. It s exclusively about generating
maximum revenue for the large corporations as frantic shoppers attempt to assuage their stress

Within our culture, it seems to be of much more convenience to attend a Christmas Eve sale at
Macy s rather than the Christmas Eve vigil at a local church. Days such as BLACK Friday really
do give a good characterization to the way we as a whole have become. Next, one is unable to
enjoy the true spirit of the season the togetherness, the contentment, and the unadulterated joy
when the only thing singed into our minds is the need to prepare for the next quickly
approaching holiday. Before you can even begin to think of the forthcoming celebration, all
consumer based retailers have their shelves stocked high with goods pertaining to seasons
months in the future. Sears, Kmart and Home Depot were among the first wave of retailers to set
up their holiday displays and merchandise during the last week of September ( Kmart, Sears, and
Home Depot ). It seems that, at this point every year, Halloween and Thanksgiving are to be
forgotten, shipped away to the land of misfit rationalizations; the biggest moneymaker of them all
is the only thing that retail stores want you to remember. It s impossible to see the beauty of the
multitude of colors painted across the leaves of changing trees, to watch the snow gently blanket
the cold, hard, winter ground, or to enjoy the company of several generations of loved ones

The Important Beliefs Celebrated at Easter and How They are Celebrated
Easter Sunday comes at the end of holy week which consists of many days which have a
significant meaning. The six weeks leading up to easter is called lent and this is celebrated by
many people giving up one of their luxuries, for example, chocolates and sweets. They do this
because they are remembering when jesus was in the desert and was tempted by the devil and
how jesus rejected his offer. During the time of lent, comes a day called ash Wednesday which
certain churches have the ceremony of putting ash on to the foreheads of people as a symbol of
receieving forgiveness.

Good Friday remembers how jesus was crucified which is a serious and sombre occasion. It is
called Good Friday because people remember how jesus sacrificed his own life to save mankind.
The anglican, Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches are stripped of all colourful decorations,
crosses, candles and hangings. This is to remind the worshipers of the fact that jesus felt
deserted and desolate on the cross. On Good Friday, when people attend the church, the story of
The Passion is read, and in some churches the priest will enveil a crucifix and say this is the
wood of the cross on which the saviour of the world died. The people will then walk up to the
alter to kiss the feet of the carved christ as a mark of respect. Free churches will not have the
same ritual, but they will have a service in which the Passion story is read and thanks will be
given to Jesus for going on the cross and saving humanity from their sins.
Easter Saturday is when Roman Catholic, Orthodox and many Anglican churches keep an easter
vigil on the Saturday evening. The congregation gather outside the church where a bonfire is
burning. A large candle is brought out, called the Paschal candle. It has a cross on it and the greek
letters alpha and omega. The priest places five

The second step in the risk management process is communication and consultation. This step
involves looking at reports to ensure their accuracy, and ensuring they are relayed to the proper
channels, so that everyone in the company is able to have a better understanding of the product, to
ensure the best productivity and outcome for the company. Discussion among senior management,
line management, risk management, compliance, internal audit and external audit personnel is
necessary for the growth and understanding of the product in these reports.
The third step is policies and procedures. This outlines all the mandatory policies, plans, and
strategies to eliminate the risks involved with the product. It helps to identify a support plan,
policies, strategies and control on the products overall design and performance. This step is crucial
because it is the place where the actual plan for risk management control should be generated, and
any potential problems that may have arisen would be addressed before ever putting the product on
the open market. This step would have identified the proper procedures of product design and
would have identified any missing steps or uninitiated steps during the process.
The fourth is training and education. The use of the product should be understood by all the
employees or at least by their research and development team. In this step, the particular training

Comparing The Necklace And Popular Mechanics
Appreciation and communication are two of the major downfalls in any kind of relationship.
Without these two it s hard to maintain a balance because one or both partners have expectations,
greed, and blame others for the way things are. After having read The Necklace received by
Mauppassant and Popular Mechanics by Carver, greed, lack of communication, and envy are the
main key points of both of these two stories. In the short story, The NecklaceMme. Loisel goes
through a lot trying to pay back a necklace that was not even worth the debt she had to pay. In the
Popular Mechanics story, there was a miscommunication where both the parents tore a baby apart
because they both wanted the baby but the mom didn t want the baby to be by the father.
Although both stories end differently, they share the same theme and demonstrate an important life
lesson. When you don t have communication, are greedy, and can t appreciate what you have,
things can become chaotic and one my end up bearing the consequence .
In the story The Necklace , we learn about an envious middle class woman named Mme. Loisel
who is ashamed of her social standing and constantly dreams about a life full of riches that she

  • 2. Inclusive Design Is Not A Synonym For Accessibility COMPARISIMS TO ACCESSIBLE DESIGNS The terms Inclusive and accessible design are a constant source of confusion. Inclusive design is not a synonym for accessibility neither is it a connotation for the term barrier free design . There are recognised minimum requirements set for designers that when followed let many individuals the opportunity to access programs and activities however they may not support their active and full participation; such standards do not address the sensitivities of sensory and cognitive differences, nor do they address the changes experienced by the human body over time . Designers may use these codes and principles as a yardstick but must go beyond them to achieve an Inclusive design . Inclusive design highlights the importance of meeting the needs of as many users as possible. Designs may be naturally accommodating or adaptable to meet diverse personal requirements; therefore it is imperative that inclusive design be included in all stages of the design process. Inclusive design promotes an integrative approach rather than multiple separate solutions by addressing the needs of an increasing number of people in a single design solution resulting in the inclusive involvement of more people in the activities of society while keeping it cost effective . PRINCIPLES OF INCLUSIVE DESIGN There are five major principles of inclusive design. Placing people at the heart of the design process is the first principle of Inclusive design . Involving as many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Domino Theory Research Paper he United States became involved with the Vietnam War to stop communism spreading throughout Asia. At first, the US only assisted France with military aid, but after a attack on US destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin, they became more involved in direct action. The US also got involved with Vietnam because they didn t want another country going to communism after what happened to China. Another factor was the pattern of what had happened in Korea. Northern communists pushed to put the whole country under communism, then America helps the local anticommunists to push them back. President Dwight D. Eisenhower brought a New Look into the national security policy in 1953. The domino theory is, if one country went to communism, the surrounding countries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After her biology teacher had died, she had wanted to find the killer thinking that it might be connected to her mother s murder. To do so she had needed some DNA, Victor fleming had said, Fifty percent of human DNA is identical to the DNA of a banana (Scarborough, 78). By this quote, it shows how Erin was so desperate and willing to risk her reputation to find the killer and her father. Another example is that she had changed in a emotional, and mental way. She had gained this crush on Journey Michaels, a popular boy at school. She had said, It s not that I don t want to see my friends, It s that I m missing Journey. I want the freedom to think about him with no distractions (Scarborough, 182). Before the murder she has had a huge crush on him and would usually only think about him during school, but after the murder and they had became friends she can t stop thinking about him. By this, Erin is being taken by her thought and really only want to hang with journey and setting her friends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. F. Scott Fitzgerald s Eyes Annabel In 1915 a fourteen year old girl received a letter from her nineteen year old brother. The girl s name was Annabelle and her brother s F. Scott Fitzgerald. In Fitzgerald s eyes Annabel was a bit socially inept, and his opening words to her were merciless, You are as you know, not a good conversationalist and you might very naturally ask, What do boys like to talk about? Boys like to talk about themselves much more than girls... (Fitzgerald qtd in F. Scott Fitzgerald289) Fitzgerald then continued on with possible opening lines: How about giving me that sporty necktie when you re through with it ; and topics to avoid, Don t talk about school . He told her to focus on dress and poise A good smile and one that could be assumed at, is an absolute necessity . He counsels her to Learn to be worldly. Remember in all society nine girls out of ten marry for money and nine men out of ten are fools . And if ten pages of criticisms and unwelcome recommendations weren t enough, he threatened to send more, I ll discuss dancing in a later letter . A few years later Fitzgerald scribbled Basis of Bernice on the heading of the letter s first page. These letters became the basis of the ten thousand word story, Bernice Bobs Her Hair , he drafted in 1919. Fitzgerald sent his story to numerous magazines yet was met with even more rejections. • 6. Volkswagen As A Car Company The company I have chosen for my project is Volkswagen. Volkswagen is in the automotive industry. Volkswagen is a German car company that is best known for the punch buggy and their diesel model cars. Volkswagen mostly produces cheap to mid priced cars. Volkswagen has always been one of the most successful companies in the automobile industry. Volkswagenhas always been a very large competitor in automotive industry, however recently Volkswagen has seen a drop in sales due to a discovery made by the EPA. The EPA found that diesel engine cars made by Volkswagen had a program that lowered emissions readings when the cars were tested. So when the car was tested the reading would show the car was producing a lower amount of emissions then it actually was. Volkswagen recently came out in September and admitted they placed the program in their cars and cheated the emissions testing. More than ten million Volkswagen cars have been effected by this scandal. So what does this mean for Volkswagen? First off this causes a shift in demand. Because of the news of Volkswagen cheating on emissions testing people aren t going to trust them or their cars and this is going to cause a decrease in demand. One of the demand shifters that we learned in class was taste and preferences. Taste and preferences is a shifter that would decrease the demand of Volkswagen. Many people buying cars today prefer buying a car that produces less emissions because it s better for the environment. One of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Use Of Satire In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales The Prioress s Tale in The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a controversial piece of Chaucer s novel. The controversy about this section of the novel regards Chaucer s mentioning of the Jewish people, and his exact reasoning for mentioning the Jewish people. Some believe that Chaucer mentions the Jewish people to portray the Prioress s anti semitism; some believe that Chaucer himself mentions the Jewish people because of his racism towards them. Many have interpreted the tale either way, with evidence to support both sides of the argument. The tale itself, displays vivid details regarding the use of the Jewish people, which does not benefit Chaucer s claims of not being an anti semite in an England that did not accept Jewsequally.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chaucer s anti semitism is not clear cut, but the idea that the tale is a form of satire does not seem clear as well. Using outside knowledge from the novel, one can make a good inference as to how Chaucer may seem like an anti semite. The outside facts apply to Chaucer thinking like a member of his society and believing in anti semitism. Chaucer s excellent detail also can symbolize some very gruesome things as well which would leave one to wonder how that could possibly be satire. The historical context also applies to what the tale is based on, so it may seem difficult to apply satire to an event that was actually saddening in that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role Of Sports For Athletes And Women Athletes Marketisation and commoditisation provide leverage for powerful nations to assert their dominance over their sport competitors by, for instance, buying their best athletes from the dominated countries and sometimes offering those athletes citizenship. There are instances when international corporate entities sponsor and own clubs in other countries, make all management decisions, and secure profits which they return to their home countries thereby leaving host countries further impoverished (Nauright 2012:54).The above global pattern has not favored most womens national and local teams as most corporate entities prefer to sponsor national mens teams. Local leagues face serious challenges due to inability to raise funds as a result of reduced quality of play resulting in poor stadium attendance that mean fewer facilities, and as indicated earlier, this lack of facilities has a trickle down effect on accessibility of facilities for women in sports. Due to globalisation, national teams go into a stage of dependent development an example is the English soccer teams as a result of the presence of foreign players in the league system denying most of the local clubs eventually has a negative effect the national team (Maguire 2013:200). Globalisation has also impacted on local sport participation by way of administrative practices. For example, Carter (2002) documents the rise of global administrative bodies (such as FIFA and OIC) and FIVF (Vanderhoof 2011) that oversee and regulate various sports. Similarly, MacAloon (1984) discusses how the modern Olympic movement highlights the diffusion of sports forms and organisation across the globe. These organisations also continue empowering males (e.g., the amount of money FIFA gives to mens soccer teams during the World Cups is greater than the amount they give to womens teams). Such inequities sometimes serve as deterrents to female participants and thereby compromise efforts to create equality between the sexes (Grainey 2012:23). Are there particular categories of products or users who might see Linux as more appealing than conventional operating systems? Do you think Linux s share of the desktop market will increase? Why or why not? Linux, or what is here and there known as Unix on a lesser scale is considered and institutionalized on the premise of an open source framework and free for conveyance (Eckert, 2016). The principle reason we see Linux utilized on a constrained premise is because we live in a prevalently Windows Operating System world. Another component conflicting with Linux is that being open source, you need to go get it and really put it on the PC yourself as a client and this is something that numerous clients are somewhat hesitant to attempt and fulfill. It was, and still is, the biggest bankruptcy filing in U.S. history , with Lehman s holding $691 billion in assets at the time. The event was the catalyst for the current financial crisis. By the end of trading that day, $700bn had been wiped off the global stock markets. The Dow Jones had plummeted 500 points, its biggest drop since the terrorist attacks of 9/11 . Furthermore, their size and capital allows them to provide those services at cheaper rates than their smaller counterparts. The large banks can achieve much greater levels of economies of scale. Studies by Boyd and Heitz have shown that larger banks, (defined as having assets of over $50 billion), have higher scale economies than their smaller counterparts . The mean measure of scale economies in the banking industry is 1.145, whilst the larger banks had a mean of 1.25, implying that they were therefore 9.2% more efficient than the rest of the industry. They hereby estimated that the larger banks economies of scale increased their contribution to national output by 9.2%. These proponents argue that the social benefits derived from these economies of scale are beneficial enough to prevent the stricter reforms and changes being discussed by governments around the world from being implemented. One of the main arguments against banks becoming too big to fail is that a moral hazard problem occurs. Moral hazard is a basic economic concept, whereby one party entering a transaction will take more risky actions if they know they have insurance against the outcomes of those actions. At present, too big to fail banks have a variety of systems emplaced by the government, which protect them in the event that they run into financial difficulty. With terror, comes peace and harmony, but not all the time, two speeches are evaluated to determine its effectiveness, [Former] President Obama s statement on the Orlando, Florida shooting , and President Trump s remarks on the Las Vegas shooting . The link which connects the speeches is the rhetorical devices, word choice, tone, persuasive appeals including many others, granting the ability of a stronger claim. The speakers Former President Barack Obama, and President Donald Trump incorporate similar ideas and how these ideas had been portrayed throughout their speeches. There are other essential details that fortified their speech, contrariwise there were details that hindered their speech, displaying weaknesses when discussing certain points. The affinity between the two speeches is intricately filled with minutiae making them harder to spot in comparison to the distinction amongst both. Although, Former President Obama s speech had plenty of emotionally inducing words, Trump s speech was more effectively written with informative statements strengthening his speech. Furthermore, the speakers benefit from the use of rhetorical devices such as anaphora, parallelism, and even epistrophe, however, this is where the similarities come to a near end. Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) became a wicked problem for the U.S. military in Iraq, especially for the ground forces. The MRAP program followed the normal defense acquisition process, but some aspects of the program cannot be duplicated easily. Conatser and Grizio outlined four requirements for a rapid acquisition process mature technical solution, user s acceptance of a short term solution, full support by the leadership, and full funding. The MRAP program met all these requirements. There were several MRAP type vehicles already in full production mode that just needed to be mass produced. Using multiple vendors allowed quick mass production of MRAPs. Although later shown to be insufficient to defeat all IED threats as the Insurgents increased the size of IEDs and used Explosive Formed Projectiles (EFP), the commanders in Iraq accepted MRAPs. There were several politicians pushing the U.S. military to procure MRAPs quickly as possible. In 2007, Secretary Gates made MRAP the top DoD acquisition priority. • 15. The Effect Of Ph On The Rate Of Photosynthesis Maggie Morris Leaf Disks: The Rise from Bottom to Top ABSTRACT This experiment demonstrates the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis by examining the behavior of leaf disks in different pH solutions under light. In this experiment, we used five different pH levels: pH 5, pH 6, pH 7, pH 8 and pH 9. These solutions were created using a combination of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. Spinancia olcerea or spinach, leaves were used in the experiment to examine the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis. The rate of photosynthesis was measured by counting the number of leaf disks that rose to the surface of the solution after each minute. In acidic solutions, the rate of photosynthesis increased while in basic solutions, the rate of photosynthesis decreased. DESIGN (D) DEFINING THE PROBLEM AND SELECTING VARIABLES The intention of this experiment is to determine the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis in living leaves. Photosynthesis is a process by which plants convert light energy captured from the sun into chemical energy which they use to perform various plant functions. During the photosynthesis process, light, carbon dioxide , and water react to produce products: sugar and oxygen. The equation for photosynthesis is: Photosynthesis occurs in the palisade mesophyll of plant leaves. During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is broken up into 6 carbon for the sugar molecule and 12 oxygen. In this lab, I determined the rate of photosynthesis in spinach ... • 16. In Plato S Euthyphro, Socrates And Euthyphro Discuss The In Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates and Euthyphro discuss the nature of piety. Euthyphro first proposed that piety is that which the gods love. His proposal was quickly objected by Socrates though, since the gods often disputed amongst themselves and therefore what one loves can be what another hates. Euthyphrothen revised his hypothesis to say that piety is that which the gods love unanimously and for the moment this was their conclusion. This definition however, that piety is what the gods love unanimously, further proposed the question of whether the gods love the pious because it is pious or whether the pious is pious solely because the gods love it. If it is true that the gods love the pious because it is pious then the definition of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In saying that things are not good by virtue of any rule of goodness but solely by virtue of the will of God, it seems to me that we unknowingly destroy all of God s love and all his glory. For why praise him for what he has done if he would be equally praiseworthy in doing the exact contrary? (1)Therefore there must be some moral standards independent of God that would be right or wrong regardless of his being. This conclusion creates another problem, it could mean that God has no freewill as he can not then act outside of the presupposed good morals and therefore can not make his own decisions. If there are moral standards independent of God and his will then that would limit God s sovereignty. It binds God to something that makes him not independent. Instead of the good being established by him he is established by what is good and in essence a new god is created. This is used as a common argument for atheism, For if morality can exist without God there is no need to answer for the inherent sense of morale that humanity has in some context no matter what culture they are raised in. There are also those who would believe in the divine command theory, otherwise known as voluntarism. One philosopher named Duns Scotus held the opinion that the ten commandments do not all follow the natural law. In other words not everything God commands the world to obey is inherently morale to the world. Scotus believed that while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Summary Of Soledad Brother By George Jackson Hope is a Necessity In a world that is so unpredictable, sometimes there is nothing else that a person can do to make a situation better besides hoping for a good outcome. Hope can have a big impact on the way people view the world, and can potentially save lives. Hope is communicated in many ways, including a variety of art forms, such as literature. Some examples of literature that show how powerful having hope can be are the novel Soledad Brother by George Jackson, the short storySalvation by Langston Hughes, the short story Superheroes, Just for Each Other by Peter S. Goodman and the article Man Needs Hope to Live, by Christopher Kaczor. These literary works show that even the smallest bit of hope can help a person make wiser decisions regarding his or her future, but having no hope for the future leads people to make choices that are ethically wrong. Soledad Brother by George Jackson is a piece of literature that shows that hope can sway a person s decision about the actions that he or she takes. The novel is written in the stream of consciousness writing style. All the letters that Jackson writes show that he has hatred towards the system in which he is living in. Jackson was sentenced to one year to life in jail. Even though Jackson has some repulsive thoughts about the police officers and their ideas, he does nothing to express his opinion about the police officers, such as starting an argument or fight with the police officers, because he has hope that if ... • 19. The Dream Of The Rood Essay Salvation Since the start of Christianity, it is said that the way of life is only to seek salvation. In the poem, The Dream of the Rood, it is assumed to have been written in the 8th century, but there is no exact time or authorship. By the 8th century, most of Anglo Saxon England were Christian. This was a time where Roman Catholic Christianitywas being shaken to the core by other entities, such as paganism and Islamic invaders. The Dream of the Rood is intended to persuade people into Christianity, salvation and acknowledging the power of God. At the start of the poem, the narrator is having a dream where he is speaking to the cross on which JesusChrist was crucified. He is astound by the beauty of the gems decorating the cross but also seems to be alarmed by the drops of blood that are smeared on the gems and on the side of the cross. There is an indication of the narrator s struggle; his struggle of faith. The author indicates the following quote to plant the idea of a man in distress due to his crippling faith: This was surely no felon s gallows, for holy spirits beheld it, men upon earth, and all this glorious creation. Wonderful was the triumphant tree, and I stained with sin, wounded with wrongdoing. I saw the tree of wonder, adorned with clothes, shine brilliantly, decked with gold; Torres 2 splendidly had jewels covered the Lord s tree. • 20. Essay about The Poet by Paul Laurence Dunbar The Poet by Paul Laurence Dunbar Before we pass on from this world it would be nice if we had left our mark, given our contribution, made our claim in the history of human civilization. Wouldn t it be wonderful to achieve such a goal? Wouldn t it be horrible to have attained that level of recognition and yet be recognized for things you deemed inferior? In the poem The Poet , Paul Laurence Dunbar expresses his remorse at having written superior Standard English literature and yet only be known and praised for his Dialect works. The first way Dunbar achieves this meaning is by his use of language. When Dunbar is talking about standard English poetry he speaks of life, serenely sweet / With, now and then, a deeper tone (Dunbar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He continues to use romantic almost even melodramatic language to bring to mind images of earlier times that were better than the dreary world of his day. In the last lines of the poem the language changes and expresses grief over the fact that the general public only recognizes him for his Dialect works. Dunbar writes But ah, the world, it turned to praise/ A jingle in a broken tongue (Dunbar 7 8). Here he is mocking the Dialect tradition, as he doesn t consider it to be poetry. He refers to it as a jingle , which causes the reader to think of advertisements and selling out . We know that he was talking about the Dialect tradition by his use of the words broken tongue . By calling Dialect tradition a broken tongue , Dunbar is referring to his own feelings that the white s attempt at capturing the African American s speech by Dialect tradition is a poor, if not incorrect, representation. Even though not many blacks in the day thought the Dialect tradition illustrated their true speech, they were confined to use what they had. Because that style of writing was so popular at the time, Dunbar s Dialect pieces got more notoriety than his standard English; and unfortunately the latter he felt was of higher quality. Another way Dunbar criticizes his inability to escape the brand of a Dialect poet is in the structure of the poem. About three quarters of the poem is Dunbar speaking about his standard English works. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Film Techniques related to theme Theme: Struggle and Hardship In the film What s Eating Gilbert Grape? directed by Lasse Hallstrom in 1993, one of the main ideas is that of struggle and hardship. This idea is significant to the film because it relates to each character in a different way, making the storyline more interesting. Three different techniques used by Lasse Hallstrom to illustrate the idea of struggle and hardship include Gilberts voice over, the extra close ups of Bonnie as she climbs the stairs and the double up of dialogue, where Mrs Carver is talking to Gilbert, and Mr Carver is heard tying to entertain their children in background. This technique relates to the idea of struggle and hardship, because it would be both a hardship for Gilbert to live in such a boring town, and a struggle to make a living where there is an apparent lack of people, meaning a lack of customers and money. Another character that suffers from struggle and hardship is Bonnie Grape. Towards the end of the film, Bonnie, who is an obese woman and the mother of Gilbert, Arnie, Amy and Ellen, is seen struggling up the stairs to her bedroom. Lasse Hallstrom used extra close up shots of her hands gripping the railing, her pained and determined face, and her feet on the steps. These shots had the purpose of indicating to the audience what a difficult task this was for her, and by focusing on her hands feet and face, they also helped to show how she was straining herself, because of her weight. This technique helps to show the idea of struggle and hardship, because her excess weight is a hardship she has had to deal with, and moving around, let alone climbing the stairs, is a definite struggle for her. Two more characters that suffer from struggle and hardship in the film are Mr and Mrs Carver. This is shown through the double up of dialogue about three quarters of the way through the film, when Mrs Carver is talking to Gilbert about how upset he?d made her, and Mr Carver could be heard in the background, trying to entertain their children. The Thoracic Ventricle II MDCT angiography of the thoracic aorta: At the point when an acute aortic syndrome (AAS) is suspected (owing either to clinical manifestations or to chest radiographic findings), non enhanced CT is usually done first to search a high attenuation acute intramural hematoma (IMH). The contrast enhanced scanning, which take after is the key part of the CT examination. The right timing of the entry of contrast material in the aorta is basic to picture quality. Approaches to accomplishing this incorporate a timing bolus or a bolus tracking technique (Kazerooni et al, 2009). Technical procedures: Previously, ECG gating has fundamentally been retrospective gating with which information are gathered over the whole cardiac cycle. This allows review of aortic valve morphologic features on static images at end systole and end diastole, measurement of aortic valve surface area and the review of valve leaflet motion in cine mode. Inadequate coaptation of the valve leaflets relates to regurgitation, and a confined opening relates to stenosis (Gilkeson et al., 2006). Additionally, the more up to date prospective triggering technique gathers CT information just at a specified point or cluster of points in the heart cycle, decreasing the time the CT beam is on to a fraction of what it was with retrospective gating, thus considerably decreasing the radiation dose (Shuman et al., 2008). Interior of the Pantheon, Rome (1734) is a remarkable painting by Giovanni Paolo Panini who is best known for his prospects on Rome in which he focussed on the city s famous sites. His works largely have a fancy and unreal adornment feature of capriccio themes. The Pantheon is a former Roman temple which is now a church in Rome. It is one of the best preserved Ancient Roman Buildings which is also popular for the geometric wonder that it is. It demonstrates the theory of 2:3 correlation between the volume of a cylinder and a sphere. The Pantheon being one of the main tourist attractions in Rome, Panini s depiction of this architectural model is populated with a lively mix of Romans and other foreign visitors who are visiting the Pantheon to admire the marvellous architecture, chat, and to pray. Panini being a trained expert in theatrical design and architecture has provided a larger view of the interiors of Pantheon than what is possible in real from a single point. The viewpoint is intense while it faces the entrance. Panini s attempt to show the bright blue sky through the oculus in the centre of the dome just adds to the magnificence of the painting. The psychic line towards the sunlight creates a soft feeling that is not too harsh on eyes but directs the vision to the right point. • 29. A Comparison Of Hills Like White Elephants And Happy Endings Hills like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway and Happy Endings by Margaret Atwood share a gender oriented theme. They both show women struggling to attain equality against their male partners. This theme is depicted through the use of symbolism, point of view and plot conflict. Symbolically, Hills like White Elephants represents a choice. It is a life choice that can t be undone once it is made. This choice is about whether or not Jig, the female character of the story, should get an abortion. It supports the theme because if Jig chooses to keep the baby she is defying the wishes of her male partner, who is simply referred to as the man, and taking a stand for women by doing so. However it is not entirely clear what choice she makes at the end of the story. Her only words being, I feel fine...There s nothing wrong with me. I feel fine (216). The interpretation some people take for this is that she decided to keep the baby and chose to defy male domination. In Happy Endings the main symbols are how the relationships end be it cheating, age, or health complications. Cheating is symbolic of the relationship being dominated by only one person involved in it. Age is symbolic of both partners sharing or being equal in the relationship. Lastly health complications are a way of saying that fate, be it good or bad, can be involved, or that not everything works out according to plan. Indeed, the themes of Erdrich s stories range from the effects of war on families and personal identity to loss of heritage and family and personal relationships. Erdrich also employs the use of symbolism in this story, to great effect. Furthermore, the two most important themes in this story are Brotherhood and War time trauma, while the most important symbol is the red convertible. The first theme that is prevalent throughout the story is Brotherhood. The focus of The Red Convertible is the relationship between Henry and Lyman. Lyman tells this story in order to honor his brother s memory. Erdrich s piece is told from Lyman s point of view, so the reader does not know Henry s motivations or thoughts. However, his behavior shows that he loved his brother dearly, and held their relationship in high regard. • 32. Investigating The Three Hormones Involved During The... Identify and discuss the three hormones involved in the regulation of plasma calcium concentrations. Explain why it is misleading to state that calcitonin lowers the plasma calcium concentration. Calcium circulates in the plasma in three different forms: ionized calcium, protein bound calcium and in complexes formed with anions found in the blood. Although ionized calcium accounts for only half of the circulating levels of calcium, it is essential for several important cell functions, such as muscular contraction, cellular signalling, exocytosis and bone composition. Therefore, it is necessary that the concentration of the ion in the blood stream is kept within a considerably strict range. Besides the dietary calcium intake, the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to its hydrophilic nature, the hormone produces its effects by binding to a surface receptor on target cells, PTH1R, which is coupled to G protein, triggering the cAMP pathway. By doing that, PTH exerts rapid effects by stimulating calcium reabsorption in the kidneys, elevating resorption of skeletal hydroxyapatite by osteoclasts and indirectly increasing intestinal calcium uptake by promoting calcitriol synthesis in the kidneys by upregulating the activity of cytochrome P450 hydroxylases. Interestingly, it also stimulates osteoblasts to release RANKL molecules, which indirectly results in an increased osteoclastic bone resorption. Moreover, PTH secretion induces a higher excretion of phosphate ions in the urine, recruiting part of the calcium that is bound to anions in the blood. Another hormone involved in the regulation of calcium levels is calcitriol. Differently from the other two hormones discussed in this text, vitamin D, as it is also known, is a hydrophobic peptide hormone and thus acts via its nuclear receptor (VDR) in a slower, steroid like mechanism. By activating its receptor, this hormone regulates gene promotion via nuclear response elements (VDRE). This way, vitamin D stimulates the upregulation of calcium transporters in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in an increase in plasma calcium levels by raising the ion uptake. Moreover, it also induces a higher renal reabsorption of calcium and promotes bone resorption, increasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Perso-Islamic Synthesis Essay The purpose of this essay is to discuss the Islamization of Persia in relation to the Samanid and Buyid Dynasties. The synthesis of Persian culture and Islam was not an immediate result of the Arab expansion into Iran and there is certainly a lack of research on the subject. However, in this essay, I will attempt to explain the contributions of the Samanid and Buyid dynasties to this synthesis with a focus on the attempts of the Samanid Dynasty at centralization and a unified identity through religion, language and culture. The Islamization of Iran occurred as a result of the Arab conquest of Persia. This period marked significant changes for Persia since there was a large movement of immigration directed towards the region from the Arabian Peninsula. After Persia was conquered, the people began to convert to Islam and landowners gave their properties to Islam and were granted even more land as a result of the conversion. Further, the Zoroastrians were in fact the ones most enraged by the conversion to Islam as they were involved in occupations that involved impurities such as working with fire, etc. Missionaries did not really encounter much opposition as it became quite easy to convert the Persians into Islam alluding to the fact that there were already many similarities and that transforming, or converting, was really not such a hard task. Muslim leaders would also win conversions by attending public Muslim prayers, promising money and allowing for the Qur an to be recited in Persian and not Arabic, so that all could understand what the Qur an was really trying to say. The Samanids, who were originally based in the Zoroastrian nobility, started their own conversion process encouraging people become Sunni Muslims. In fact, during the reign of the Samanids in the 9th century, the Qur an was translated into Persian completely. Musical theatre is a type of play that tells a story through songs, spoken dialogue, and dancing. During the 20th century, there was a lot of change going on in Musical Theatre. Musicals are different from other types of stage works such as opera because a musical would not be a musical without the music, story line, or dancing. European operetta was becoming more popular than American Musical Theatre. The two main types of opera that were being made were called ballad operas and comic operas which had romantic plots. American composers sought to come up with something new, since Musical Theatre was not very popular with the general public. There were a lot of components that helped shape musical theatre in America , but most think that it was mainly developed because of the different tastes developing, likeable styles, spirit and energy by composers in America, it was not. Although musical theaters origins are not certain, Musical theatre gradually developed using influences of ballad opera, comic opera, operetta, vaudeville, and burlesque. Musical theatre had not been called musicals , although there were previous stage entertainments. Before the 20th century there was a reported first musical written entitled The Disappointment was a ballad opera that was taken from rehearsal because it contained ... • 44. The Desert Is No Place For A Man And Cormac Mccarthy The desert is no place for a man and Cormac McCarthy makes that perfectly clear from the onset of Blood Meridian. At first, it s hard to tell which will be more desolate and brutal: the environment or the men that traverse it. However, McCarthy initially seems to establish that unbridled nature will triumph over man every time regardless of the circumstance. If natureis God, then man is hopeless to stand against it. Yet McCarthy makes an important distinction between nature as it exists in the wild and nature that has been tamed by man. Although a lot of his depiction of nature comes from the landscape, he uses animals in a telling way to prove a larger point: nature is only so powerful until it is conquered by men. It is an obvious approach to look at the ways in which the landscape and the desert environment domineer over the gang of men throughout the novel. Less obvious, and at the same time, painfully overt, is the role that wild animals take within the framework of the story. The Judge is quoted as saying that God speaks in stones and trees, the bones of things (116) and the overall understanding of this message is that god resides in nature; the force of nature is the force of god. This force is seen clearly the first time someone in the band is attacked by a bear. The first compelling part in this scene is the way the men s horses react to the bear. One horse was described as falling backward and [the Delaware] was trying to turn it, beating it about the head ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
