Participation Sociology
Hypothesis
The main level of inequity, after applying Figueroa s five level framework of equity, and studying the
survey information, all aspects of the framework were found to affect the participation, but the main
level being the institutional level.
Introduction
Touch is fast and skilful game attracting participants of all shapes and sizes, genders and backgrounds.
Touch began as a training game for the two rugby codes during the 1950 s and 60 s it was never seen
as a sport in its own right.
Today touch enjoys a healthy level of participation both on a national front, with World Cups and
Trans Tasman competitions as part of the representative calendar.

Certainly, Touch being a non contact sport showing no aspects of rough, aggressive behaviour, is seen,
by the majority, as not a very suitable sport for males to play, and a game involving a football is seen
as not an appropriate game for girls.

The minor nations include Argentina, Canada, Fiji, Georgia, Japan, Namibia, Romania, Samoa, Spain,

Alcoholic Techniques In Leaving Las Vegas
Leaving Las Vegas, directed by Mike Figgis and based on the autobiographical novel by John O
Brien, is an emotional story about an alcoholic who rejects life and wants to drink himself to death in
Las Vegas, and an unselfish prostitute who loves him the way he is. Ben, played by Nicholas Cage,
was a former movie producer in Los Angeles and has obviously crumbled in the glamour world of
Hollywood which is shown in the opening scene. Here Ben is already an alcoholic when he disturbs
former colleagues that are embarrassed of his appearance at the restaurant. Ben is unstable and a mess
when one of the men give him money and tell him not to contact him again. Ben then gets fired and
ultimately decides to drink himself to death in Las Vegas, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Figgis mainly used multiple shots to emphasize the two protagonist s interactions with each other. The
two shot and the over the shoulder shot were used often to build a situation or emotion between the
two characters before usually going over to a close up to highlight how each character reacts by their
facial expressions. The director mainly used eye level shots, to leave it up to the audience to judge the
two main characters of the movie, although certain power struggles in the film are shown from high
angles to illustrate someone dominating a conversation or argument. Figgis also uses some point of
view shots to show the imbalance during Ben s drunken periods where the camera is placed at an
oblique angle to show tension and approaching movements. The images in the film are in high
contrast with streaks of blackness and harsh shafts of light to underline the dramatic events that occur.
When it comes to the editing, Figgis mainly used cutting to continuity to preserve the fluidity of most
events without the necessity to show them all. The director also uses flash forwards a few times to
give you an idea about the destiny of Sera, which is shown when she reflects about her encounter with
Ben to an invisible therapist. Figgis also shot the movie using Super 16mm film to give it a tense,
documentary feel. The music is also very unique because the jazzy soundtrack isn t the

Rifleman Dodd Book Report
Rifleman Dodd
By: C.S. Forester
Rifleman Dodd is a fictional novel that follows the struggle of one British rifleman I chose this book
because as a junior Marine it seemed like it would relate to me and many of the diverse situations I
was being faced with. Rifleman Dodd provided me with a motivation to learn as much as I could and
to always apply my knowledge and training to any given scenario. This book follows a British
Rifleman fighting in the French, Portuguese War in 1807. Matthew Dodd, the main character in this
novel, must conquer many mental and physical challenges to complete his mission. In a risky retreat
to the lines of Torres Vedras, Rifleman Dodd is left behind in this costly maneuver. With Dodd, only
being a Private of the British Army, is very unaccustomed to the trials of war leaving him to reflect to
his training to battle fatigue, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowing well that the odds of surviving are very slim, Dodd manages to utilize many military like
tactics to beat the French in various battles. Doing so, this shows the reader how effective the proper
use of applied training can be when used correctly. A few examples of this would be when Dodd used
skirmisher movements to take out French dragoons. Another scenario would be when Private Dodd
uses proper cover and concealment to sneak through a French checkpoint and burn down a bridge that
was being built for a French attack. These tactics came to his success in the long run, eventually
reuniting Rifleman Dodd back to his soldiers near the end of the book. Although he never expected to
be a hero or anything of the sort, Dodd took the initiative to help stop the French advancement
regardless of the things

Disadvantages Of Uber Technology
Uber is a transportation network application developed by the company Uber Technologies Inc.
Launched in 2011, Uber is currently available to over sixty countries, including the Philippines. This
transportation service has proved to be a convenient and innovative way of getting from point A to
point B. Maintaining a 4.5 star rating on the Apple App Store and a 4 star rating Google Play Store, it
is obvious that the public s reception of Uber is positive. As for myself, a college student who uses
Uber on a daily basis, I can say that it is a user friendly and creative way of traveling around the city.
Of course, a vital role played in all transportation services is the vehicle operator or the driver. Uber

Andrew said that GrabTaxi drivers can refuse to take a passenger which would only cause
inconvenience, unlike Uber wherein the drivers cannot turn down a passenger. He also added that the
vehicles for Uber needed to at least be the 2013 model or newer so that ensures comfort for both the
driver and the passenger. Another advantage that Uber has over GrabTaxi, according to Andrew, is that
the mode of payment is credit card and not cash. Because of this mode of payment, the drivers need
not worry about giving change, nor do the passengers need to consider if the amount of money they
are carrying is enough to pay for the trip. Andrew also added that Uber is safer than GrabTaxi for both
the driver and the rider for they both learn a few details about each other before the ride starts, and at
the end of a trip, the passenger and the driver rate each other through the app which serves as feedback
which will be seen by the next driver/passenger. I expected the answers he gave since the reasons he
enumerated are also the same reasons I use Uber instead of GrabTaxi. Basically, Uber is easier to use,
safer, and more

Antitrust Policy
Throughout mankind existence, civilization has brought many changes that have affected lives. For
some, these changes have brought better condition of living, for others disparities. With the emergence
of industrialization businesses have focused on controlling world market and prices by creating a
monopoly in order to have absolute control, making it almost impossible for competition to survive.
As consumers begin to suffer government were forced to create policies in order to address this
alarming behavior. By the 1890 s U.S gorvernment has introduced legislation of the Interstate
Commerce Act. The Sherman Act of 1890 s regulation of antitrust competition policies was created as

Lender Liability and the Duty of Good Faith
Lender Liability and the Duty of Good Faith I. Introduction From time to time, lenders and their
attorneys announce that lender liability is no longer an issue with which the lending community needs
to be concerned. What usually prompts this proclamation of the death of lender liability is a recent
case in which a court has summarily rejected a borrower s claim that the lender violated the duty of
good faith and fair dealing. Many courts have rejected borrowers lawsuits which are based on
allegations of the violation of the lender s duty of good faith. Nevertheless, lender liability should
continue to be an area of concern to lenders. Although courts often dismiss cases based on a borrower
s claims of lender bad faith, in other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then a discussion of the objective and subjective test of good faith will take place before finally
concluding that the good faith obligation should not be imposed in debtor creditor situations to
override express terms of a contract. II. The U.C.C. A. The Good Faith Performance Obligation and
the U.C.C. The central provision of the U.C.C. s good faith requirement is found in § 1 203, which
provides that every contract or duty within this Act imposes an obligation of good faith in its
performance or enforcement. With regard to debtor creditor relationships in particular, this obligation
of good faith performance imposes on a lender a duty to deal in good faith with its borrower in all
situations, not only in situations where, because of the circumstances of the loan, the lender has
assumed actual control over and a fiduciary responsibility for the borrower. One troublesome but
important aspect of the good faith performance obligation is its application to contracts, which provide
that one party to the contract may, in its sole discretion, take certain actions pursuant to the contract. In
such cases, the actions of the party who can exercise its discretion may affect all parties to the
contract, and dependent parties must rely on the good faith of the party given the right to exercise its
discretion. Often, the discretion exercised by the party in control will adversely affect the dependent
party. However, it does not necessarily follow that

Per Business Insider, Forty-Two Million Prostitutes Work
Per Business Insider, forty two million prostitutes work in both legalized and illegalized countries.
Many countries have taken different legal paths to deal with prostitution. These paths include;
prohibition, making all forms of prostitution illegal; legalize, making all forms legal; and
decriminalizing, normalizing prostitution. The debate of how to handle prostitution cannot be
discussed until prostitution is understood. The Merriam Webster dictionary describes prostitution as
the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment. Prior to the
nineteenth century, prostitution in the US was legal in red light districts, zoned areas where there was
little conflict between communities and businesses, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As the policies currently stand in the US, no health requirements for prostitutes are in place and this
damages public health. The justice system assumes that deterring people from participating in
prostitution will prevent the spread of sexual transmitted diseases but this is not the case and has not
always been the argument against prostitution. In an article called Why is Prostitution Criminalized?
An Alternative Viewpoint on the Construction of Sex Work, by Rebecca Hayes Smith and Zahar
Sherkarkhar, researches argue that before the nineteenth century the debate was based on moral
grounds, but after the nineteenth century it was shifted to the medical issues. It is especially interesting
that, At the time doctors urged the government to regulate and license prostitution so that prostitutes
would be required to take medical exams, because medical professionals were only wanting exams
while the government pushed that illegalization was the only way to prevent the spread of STDs
(Smith and Sherkarkahr 45). Nonetheless, protecting prostitutes and clients from STDs is a big
concern in all countries but illegalization is not the way to protect the public. In an article What to
know about Nevada s legal brothels, by Michael Martinez, he discusses the different health regulations
that brothels in Nevada abide by. It is noted that, The state board of health requires sex workers to
undergo testing for sexually transmitted infections. Monthly blood testing is

The Main Theme Of Steve Bruce s God Is Dead
The main theme of Steve Bruce s God is Dead is about secularisation. In this book he argues that
secularisation is not a single notion and goes on to explore the many factors he believes has
contributed to secularisation. Bruce takes a sociological point of view as he draws on tradition starting
from Durkheim and Weber to more recent sociologist such as Martin and Niebuhr. Bruce states that
the aim of the first chapter is to clear the way for sensible debate about secularisation (2002: p.1) and
to lay out what modern sociologists actually mean by secularisation. Within this book Bruce uses a
range of literature from other sociologists regarding the secularisation debate in order to present and
argue that secularisation is occurring. Bruce does acknowledge that there are many interpretations of
what secularisation is and does say that there is no one secularisation theory (2002: p.2). But rather,
there are groups of similar explanations that adhere to each other quite well. According to Bruce trying
to define secularisation before offering explanations of it is harder as scholars tend to combine their
definitions. However he does use other sociologists definitions of secularisation, he uses Berger and
Luckmann s definition that shows the decline of religious social power, as they define it as, the
progressive autonomization of societal sectors from the domination of religious meaning and
institutions . The second definition of secularisation that Bruce gives is Wilson s

Deregulation of the airlines in 1978 forced the industry to rethink their business strategy in order to be
successful during a period of widespread operating losses due to an economic recession, striking air

Finally, we can see where overconfidence, risky decision making, failure to develop successors
created an eventual leadership crisis and led the company to ultimately file for bankruptcy protection.
My read of question one, part one is that Burton s leadership behavior was most certainly that of a
charismatic leader. He was a visionary, could effectively articulate his visions and exuded a
confidence and optimism that inspired and motivated his followers. He was willing to take personal
risks and make self sacrifices to attain the vision, at least initially. He used strong expressive forms of
communication when articulating the vision. With respect to his followers, he communicated high
expectations, expressed optimism and confidence in them and empowered them. Evidence of
charismatic leadership is provided by the leader follower relationship, and a charismatic leader has
profound and unusual effects on followers. This was certainly the case initially where the organization
provided, a better way for people to work together, thereby unleashing their creativity and improving
productivity.
Question two of part one asks, Was Burton a charismatic leader in the company at this time? Explain
your answer. The short answer is yes. However, in order to answer this question more completely we
must first understand that, Attributions of charisma are the result of an

A Basic Understanding Of Network Competencies Essay
A basic understanding of network competencies is necessary to succeed in most technology fields and
it is a foundational requirement for roles that deal directly with network communications. In today s
connected world of the cloud, apps that depend on internet connectivity, and even thermostats that can
have their temperature set across the internet, the need to understand how networking works is
expanding beyond the traditional roles of Network Administrators, Network Engineers, and
information security professionals to developers, systems administrators, analysts, and support
personnel. A fundamental understanding of networking is necessary to succeed in most technology
jobs. Two such jobs are the Systems Administrator and the Systems Analyst, which have different
training and educational requirements. While much of the Systems Administrator s job revolves
around network related tasks, they also spend a lot of time on servers, software systems, databases,
and storage. Systems Administrators can be responsible for networking and most of what they do
depends on the network, the majority of their time is spent on Servers, software systems like Active
Directory or databases, applications, and storage. Most mid to large organizations will have at least
one dedicated Network Administrator or Network Engineer. The Systems Analyst job has a much
wider skill set, but it also includes some knowledge of computer networking. According to the Bureau
of Labor Statistics website,

Live The Dream By Christopher Nolan And Co Produced By...
Live the Dream
Inception is a science fiction film that was directed by Christopher Nolan and co produced by Emma
Thomas. It is about the story of how a group of extractors infiltrate the minds of their targets,
extracting information and planting ideas, which is called inception. After watching this movie, I was
deeply impressed by its careful designation, the precise logic of the scenarios, its method of narration,
as well as its use of symbols through the plot. An effective storyteller always draws the audience s
attention. The narrative structure reveals the theme of the contrast and comparison between real life
and life in dreams, and the representative symbols in the movie. Some techniques are also to be
appreciated.
To analyze the narrative structure, the main plot should be introduced at the beginning. Dominick
Cobb and Arthur are extractors who are able to create dream scenarios that seems to be the real world,
and they are able to lead other people into the dream worlds that they build and invade their
subconscious, thereby getting valuable information. In a corporate espionage attempt, Cobb and
Arthur are commanded to steal Saito s business secret. Convinced by Cobb and Arthur s capacity,
Saito finds them and offers them a seemly impossible mission to plant a seed in Robert Fischer s
subconscious to break up Robert s father s energy conglomerate. The remuneration for Cobb is that his

The Healing Of A Healing Hospital
A hospital is a place that people go to for healing and help. Many associate fear with hospitals due to
previous experiences. Rather than relaxing and having optimal time to heal, hospitals can create
stressful environments for patients as well as employees. A new type of hospital setting breaking out
in the healthcare industry are healing hospitals that provides a patient centered environment. In this
paper I will discuss the aspects of a healing hospital, its relationship to spirituality, the challenges of
creating a healing environment, and finally the biblical aspects of a healing hospital.
What is a Healing Hospital?
A healing hospital is a place that is patient centric and focuses on making the patient relaxed and allow
healing in a peaceful environment. The three aspects of a healing hospital include a quiet environment,
integrating technology into care, and providing compassionate care to patients. These components are
beneficial to both hospital staff and patients. By providing a noise free environment caregivers are less
apt to get distracted (Eberst, 2008, pg. 78). When hospital staff have a calm environment where they
can think through situations, the right decision is more likely to be made. Distractions can be
detrimental to the health of a patient. Nurses should be confident in their decision making process and
know that they are making the right choice. Using technology efficiently in healthcare can speed up
results which allows doctors to create a

Arguement For Rewarding Human Organs
Many people believe that they should be rewarded for saving another person s life by donating an
organ for them, claiming that they had a choice, so they should be praised for making the right
decision to give it away! Well, if that s true, then we should be rewarded for picking up garbage that
we dropped, or washing our hands after we use the restroom. People aren t ordinarily rewarded, or
praised, for something we are already expected to do. But, that is what is expected to happen when
donating organs. Organ donation is the process of removing tissues along with organs from a human

Birthday Mark by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The discovery of electricity opened the door to many mysteries that challenged scientists of the
nineteenth century. Nathaniel Hawthorne writes of some challenges that man could run into during the
exploration and application of new technology in The Birthmark. These challenges are not entirely
physical but they are more so about an internal struggle within Victorian mindsets. In The Birthmark
there are only three characters: Aylmer, a scientist, Georgiana, Aylmer s wife, and Aminadab, Aylmer s
lab assistant. Hawthorne isolates the characters in their caste to present individual viewpoints of a
tragic flaw. Each character promotes innocence but they are caught up in traditional values.
Hawthorne writes of an honest but fatal mistake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His assistant, Aminadab is a sub human in his eyes (Fairbanks, 103). Aminadab is a complete contrast
to Aylmer but none of Aylmer s experiments would be possible without the help of this human
machine (Hawthorne, 298). He is of great importance to Aylmer, but Hawthorne makes it clear that
Aylmer thinks of himself much higher than the common man. Aminadab s importance to the story lies
within the fact that he is an invisible character everywhere except the lab. His profound contrast to
Aylmer s character away from Georgiana provides the reader with a clearer picture of the mad
scientist as he attempts to overthrow nature. When Aylmer fails to do so, Aminadab laughs
triumphantly at the tragic hero s attempt to control nature. These two characters show opposing
thoughts and reactions to the murder of Aylmer s now perfect, dead bride. Hawthorne s heavy use of
symbolism carries a lot of undertones that reveals irony on many levels as he wraps up the story. The
most obvious is that Aylmer murders his lovely bride when he perfects Nature. Georgiana is enamored
by Aylmer s experiments even though he often fails. She gains confidence and submits herself
willingly but only to vicariously pursue happiness through her husband s experiment. Knowing that
her birthmark makes her an object of horror to the one she loves, she finds life to be a burden and is
willing to risk her own life for both of their happiness (Hawthorne 292).

Medea and Jason and the Golden Fleece
Medea and Jason and the Golden Fleece are two well known Greek stories. In both these stories the
Olympian gods in the stories play important roles that affect the lives of both Jason and Medea. The

agony, shame, and guilt. Her love for Jason causes her to tear away from her loving parents and
dishonor her father by helping his enemy. Hera s plan to avenge Pelias also flood Medea s head with
thoughts to keep her from straying from Hera s plan. Unfortunately for Medea her decision to help
Jason was not her own and was a careful thought out plan by Hera. Her life would never again be the
same. Even though Jason promises to love her always and promises that she will be his wedded wife,
he breaks this promise as soon as she become old and he is given the opportunity to marry royalty.
Medea decisions were not in any way wise but if it were not for the arrows of Eros she would have
had better judgment on the stranger. Medea s behavior in this story shows that of loyalty and
confusion in her heart. She is in agony because she can not conceive as to why she feels so much love
for a stranger and does not wish to dishonor her father by doing so. But then she is constantly

The Struggle for Nuclear Power
Nuke em The struggle for nuclear power has been a problem since the dawn of the nuclear age.
Governments continue to use the threat of a nuclear attack as a deterrent. However, small terrorist
groups may not feel threatened by a nuclear attack due to their mobility. Thus, the question remains;
are nuclear weapons a necessary safety, or a danger. The solution is therefore to observe the pros and
cons of nuclear capabilities, and to look at some precautions that can be taken to help protect people.
The benefits of having nuclear weapons may not be quite as obvious as some of the downfalls of
having such capabilities. The entire purpose of nuclear weapons is to act as a deterrent the countries

As long as the plug and the cylinder and the plug are separated, nothing happens. Both parts quietly
emit a small amount of radiation, however, neither of the two pieces has enough mass to cause a
serious reaction. Some Uranium atoms are reacting and producing radiation, but there are not any
other atoms that are close enough for a chain reaction to start. However, when the two pieces are
brought together, a violent reaction occurs. This happens because there is such a high density of
Uranium that when one atom reacts it causes another atom to react and this sets off a chain reaction
(Dr. Donald Nye). In a nuclear generator rods of Uranium, that are producing radiation, are inserted
into giant tanks of water, the reaction occurring by the proximity of the Uranium atoms causes the
rods to generate heat, this in turn heats the water producing steam. The steam is the used to push a
turban, or something else to create work, which in turn gives us energy. There are also certain safety
measures put in place in case of an emergency to help keep the Uranium from reaching critical mass.
The fact that the rods are in water is mainly what keeps the explosion from happening and not as much
Uranium is used. If there is an emergency lead panels will drop between the rods preventing the
reaction from continuing to occur and cold water is pumped into the tanks

Coast Guard Memo
1. When I joined the Coast Guard 21 years ago, I would never have guessed I would be writing a
memo based on my leadership philosophy. My first two years and ten days in the Coast Guard was the
most miserable I have ever been. I was one of two females at a Small Boat Station in Rockland,
Maine. My roommate and I were treated differently, to say the least. We were the only two mess cooks
out of 20 non rated personnel. Her and I would switch every other month for more than one year. It
took us twice as long as the men to get communication room and boat crew qualified. We had to do
colors only in the rain or snow. We were assigned Extra Military Instruction (EMI), like throwing

Know what you don t know. I believe that as a leader, it s important to be okay with not knowing
everything. Being honest about your knowledge base and not pretending to be something you aren t,
while it s humbling, brings the most respect. When I was a Company Commander, running my first
company, I was told if they ask you a question that you don t know the answer to, just say Get out of

extreme and unusual scenario. But, it s something that I think of often, and am careful to not embody

The Circular Plot In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The Circular Plot in Of Mice and Men
The author, John Steinbeck, utilizes a circular plot structure in his novel, Of Mice and Men, to show
how prejudice and the impossibility of wishful desires will always be prevalent in society. He
integrates multiple examples through the characters of this story; each individual representing a role in
society. As Lennie and George travel from ranch to ranch, their dreams are challenged and Lennie is
one of many who faces discrimination.
To commence, repetition is used to introduce how Lennie has always been discriminated against due
to his mental disability. For example, as they arrived on the new ranch, Lennie claims George said he
was his cousin to the boss they had met. Conversely, George retorts that what he said was a lie,
declaring that if he was a relative of [Lennie], [he d] shoot [himself] (Steinbeck 24). This illustrates
how Lennie is often ridiculed for his condition, George concealing it to avoid losing their opportunity
of receiving the Job on the ranch. This moment is one of many situations George has mistreated
Lennie to some extent. Further evidence is when George explains to Slim what had discouraged him
from mocking Lennie. He confesses to Slim that he played jokes on Lennie because it made him
appear smart alongside of him, only stopping when he orders Lennie to jump in the lake. Lennie
couldn t swim a stroke and he was so nice to [George] for [pulling] him out of the water in time to
save his life (Steinbeck

Personal Reflection On Bowling
After having the opportunity to take a bowling class this semester, I have learned much more about
bowling and how it can be used as an overall fitness program and healthy lifestyle. As almost anything
in life bowling has it benefits and its weakness. It s worth to further explore them and discuss these
ideas further. First we talk about how bowling can be played for fun with friends and family, we than
talk about that it s competitive sport and it can be treated like many of the popular sports out there.
Than we go on to talk about the benefits of using bowling as a fitness for a healthy lifestyle, and then
we move on to talk some of the area where bowling doesn t help when we are talking about a healthy
lifestyle, we also tie everything together at the end and compare using bowling as fitness sport to other
sports, and finally we go on to give a personal reflection of my overall opinion on bowling and my
future plans for playing bowling in my life. Bowling can be played for fun, and because of the nature
of bowling, it is perhaps more suitable for playing for fun compared to other sports. The obvious
advantage here is that it requires very little atheletism and physical ability to just play, this is not the
case for sports like basketball, football, tennis and soccer. Where in other to have a fun game there is a
certain standard of the athletic abilities and skills of the players involved. Unlike bowling where
anyone can just play. Additionally, in bowling there is room for conversation and jokes more so than
any of the sports mentioned above, so the ability for social interaction is certainly greater. It is easy to
do when you are sitting comfortably and waiting for your turn. The situation itself actually encourages
this, since it s the only logical thing to do. This is a huge advatange of bolwing and it makes this
activity very fun. This is ideal for someone that has a problem with depression.Depression is an issues
for many individuals so having a sport like this is a great since it allows friends and coworkers to get
together on a weekly basis and interact with each other. It provides a platform where everyone can
play the same game. Regardless of age athletic ability and previous experience of

The Great Gatsby Freudian Analysis Essay
A Freudian Analysis of The Great Gatsby
Sigmund Freud, a psychological genius, created an entirely new system that dealt with the
understanding of the human personality. This technique, called psychoanalysis, consists of three
subdivisions. The id responds directly to his or her instincts, while the superego relies on his or her
sense of guilt. Lastly, the ego represents reality, or the balance between the id and superego. In F. Scott
Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, the three levels of subconsciousness are ideally filled by the
main characters, Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby, and Nick Carraway. The id is not affected by reality,
logic or the everyday world, as it operates within the unconscious part of the mind (McLeod). Tom
Buchanan lived in his own mind. Listening only to his own instincts, he proved to be impulsive and
selfish. He knew what he wanted, and he would not give up until he achieved his goal. Tom did not

Jay Gatsby adhered to society s expectations. He aimed at the goal of becoming his ideal self. Gatsby
wanted to gain the social position that he thought was necessary to win over Daisy s heart. So he
invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this
conception he was faithful to the end (Fitzgerald 98). He even changed his name so that he could start
his journey creating his ideal self. He wanted to forget his gloomy past. He did anything to work his
way up to become a rich man because his conscience told him Daisy yearned for him to be successful.
Howes states, When Nick entertains Gatsby s requests, Gatsby rewards him with friendship. This
exhibits the fact that Gatsby listened to his conscience. He felt like he owed Nick for his acts of
kindness. He s afraid, he s waited so long. He thought you might be offended (Fitzgerald 78). Again,

Yokuts California Case Study
The Yokuts: A California Case Study
The Yokuts inhabited the San Joaquin valley in California. There were over 40 independent groups
and each of them had a distinct name, dialect and territory. The San Joaquin Valley is bounded by
mountains on the east, west and south and to the north flow the Kern and San Joaquin rivers into the
ocean. The climate in the valley is hot with dry mild summers, semiarid winters and very minimal
precipitation. Originally, the area was rich in a network of rivers, streams, lakes and sloughs fed by
waters from Sierra Nevada to the east and it is very productive and rich in resources such as food,
wood for construction, firewood and manufacturing tools. After these rivers and streams were diverted
for agricultural purposes, the valley dried up and became a vast area of farmland. The foothills
elevations are higher and cooler and are occupied by some Yokuts groups. They managed their
environment both passively and actively to improve forage for deer, eliminate underbrush growth,
make it easy to traverse, and for hunters as well. Passively, they did religious ceremonies to ensure the
continuation of favorable conditions.
The Yokuts spoke the Penutian language but each mini tribe spoke a different dialect. The earliest
recorded contact with the Europeans was when the Spanish came looking or renegade soldiers.
Spanish expeditions to the San Joaquin took Yokuts to missions but then the United States seized
California from Mexico and the territory got

Gas turbine blades are subjected to high thermal loads caused by the high temperature of the gases
entering the cascade. The pressure difference between the blade pressure surface and the blade suction
surface induces tip leakage flow, which increases heat transfer in the blade tip region. In this paper, the
three dimensional flow and heat transfer are examined for an internally cooled blade cascade with tip
injection using numerical technique. The three dimensional turbulent flow was obtained by solving
Reynolds averaged Navier Stokes equations and the energy equation. The Shear Stress Transport
(SST) k  model was employed to represent turbulent flow. The cooling air is injected from eleven
holes with 3 mm diameter arranged along the blade chamber line. The operating and boundary

individual shows extreme impulsivity, has difficulty sustaining attention and is overly active, to an
extent that he/she might find it difficult to sit at one place for more than a minute. It is a disorder with
a recognized and persistent behavioral pattern that normally shows up during childhood.
ADHD is stressful both for the sufferer and his/her parents, who often struggle with the restless
behavior of kids. They might misjudge the child to be naughty or stubborn and rely on medications for

used ADHD coaching methods are
Behavioral Orientation Which involves training to correctly monitor behavior and bring the desirable
changes in behavior. Several techniques like positive reinforcement, or time out can be used by
coaches. Parents and child need to work together and build up certain ways and strategies that help the
child learn the suitable and acceptable behavioral patterns.
Life Skills Improvement ADHD children are helped out to open up their feelings and share their
difficulties freely. The coach trains them to develop daily self help habits that can aid in improving
focus and attention. This also helps them in learning how to take correct decisions in life and working
through disruptive behaviors.
Attention Games To increase focus and improve attention span of the ADHD children, different
attention exercises are used by life coaches. For example, simple games like freeze time or statue can
help a lot when dealing with kids as they are fun and engaging. Another very common technique is the
clap method where the child has to clap at the same time as the coach

Years ago, during a rough patch in life, I started seeing a behavioral psychologist to deal with some
anxiety issues and insomnia. Part of his sessions often consisted of a guided meditation, where he
would speak to me in gentle tones while I lay on the sofa, breathing deeply. The meditations were
probably a good 20 minutes or so, and frankly, I wondered if perhaps these sessions were just a way
for my therapist to get a break from listening to my life nonsense, but I found them very relaxing and
left afterwards feeling calm and refreshed, two feelings that didn t come naturally to me.
After one session, my therapist complimented me on my breathing. He noted that I could slow my
breath down and take very long, deep breaths that helped me reach a different state. Higher
consciousness? Maybe. Calm and relaxed? Definitely, at least during and for a bit after the meditation.
He asked if I had learned this somewhere. I told him about the years I had spent taking Kundalini
Yoga from a prominent LA teacher. It wasn t daily

Gun Safety Essay
Gun Safety
Some people like to shoot guns for hunting, some like to shoot them for recreation. Whatever the
reason, when using guns, there are steps you need to take to be safe, whether shooting or storing them.
The first basic rule is to never assume your gun is not loaded. No matter what, always check to make
sure there is no ammunition in the gun. Another big rule is to remember that the safety (which is to
prevent the gun from firing) of the gun is a mechanical device and can fail. Always point the gun in a
safe direction (which is away from people, etc.). Horseplay should be avoided at all times when
handling a gun. For storage, always make sure the gun is unloaded and locked in a location that is
inaccessible to children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
***For added protection, there are different types of storage and/or locks for guns also. The first is a
lockbox. It is a small metal case that is used for handguns. An advantage of this case is that there is
quick access if the lock is pushbutton. A disadvantage is that it costs more than a trigger or cable lock.
The average price is anywhere from $40 to $200+. Second, a gun vault or safe comes in a variety of
sizes to fit all types of guns. Some advantages are that it is difficult to steal, allows for numerous guns
of different sizes, there is storage for other items and valuables, and they are usually fire safe. Some
disadvantages are that it costs more than cable locks or lock boxes and they are also heavy and
difficult to move. The price range is anywhere from $100 to $2000. The cable lock is a cable that is
inserted into the chamber and locked (like a bike lock) to prevent a shell from being fired. Advantages
are that the long cables are able to thread through several guns and they are inexpensive.
Disadvantages are that the cable is thin and can be easily cut. Price ranges from free to $20+. Next the
trigger lock is a two piece rigid cylinder that fits behind the trigger so it cannot move. A combination
opens this lock. Advantages are that it is inexpensive, they are widely available, and there is quick
access to the gun. Some disadvantages are that they may break easily and may not prevent theft
because the locks can be removed later. Some models can be

The Role of the Reflexive Ethnographer
Works Cited Missing
The role of the reflexive ethnographer has been constantly defined and redefined since the beginning
of the study of anthropology. The use of reflexivity has and will always be questioned in anthropology.
Malinowski, who was a pioneer in the field of anthropology, discouraged the use of reflexivity; he,
instead, believed that anthropology was scientific and could produce concrete evidence (Malinowski
17).
Reflexivity is way in which anthropologists try to get rid of this scientific and rigid anthropology; it is
a move towards an emotional and self reflective anthropology. Reflexivity denies the structuralism

Visweswaran believes that reflexive anthropology did not begin with Paul Rabinow, Jean Paul
Dumont and Vincent Crapanzano (Visweswaran 22) but began with women who, because of societal
constraints, could not be anthropologists. These women s writings, she claims, have been dismissed as
popularized accounts or as confessional field literature (Visweswaran 21).
These ethnographies have been also called inadequate science (Visweswaran 21); this is in relation to
Malinowski s belief that anthropology is a structured and scientific method. It is ironic then that men
are heralded as exemplars of this new genre (Visweswaran 22) when women began reflexivity before
them. Visweswaran goes on to analyze these formerly unknown and ignored female texts; she looks at
these ethnographies to make her own ethnography. These ethnographies, for Visweswaran, are
ethnographies in the text themselves; they reveal the female author s complex negotiation of
positionality within a single gender domain (Visweswaran 27).
Visweswaran is thus reflexive about the female identity and hence about her own identity. She
believes that anthropologists should be reflexive with

How Do Red Blood Cells Affect The Cardiovascular System
Every second, about two million red blood cells die in the human body. Fortunately, the bone marrow
can keep up with the body by creating red blood cells at the same rate of which they die. If red blood

affects the body s blood flow, and the amount of oxygen in all parts of the body.
Red blood cells play a big role in the cardiovascular system. The cardiovascular system s main

Although the thought of repeating history is often followed by a negative connotation, a lot of the

An Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living
The Examined or Unexamined Life Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher who lived from 470
BC to 399 BC. Today he is credited with many influential philosophical ideas and quotes, but one in
particular An unexamined life is not worth living . What Socrates means by this quote is that a life
without the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge is no life at all. Socrates reflects on this idea to his
audience of jurors during his trial. The men of Athens felt threatened by Socrates, believing him
spreading his philosophical ideas would disrupt their way of life and order in the city of Athens.
During his trial Socrates pleads his ignorance about the world around him and that all he wishes to do
is to explore his thought and attempt to gain as much knowledge as he can. Throughout his life
Socrates has gained a number of enemies and critics just for being a curious person. He understands
this and preaches it to his jurors at the trial explaining to them that he would venture around the city
conversing with professionals of a certain craft, not for the purpose of exposing their ignorance of the
world around them but to learn for himself along with attempting to teach them to think critically and

Bcg Matrix Is A Model Developed Via The Boston Consultancy...
BCG Matrix
The BCG matrix is a model developed via the Boston Consultancy group within the early 1970 s. It is
a good known device for an advertising manager. It s based on the commentary that a company s
business models can be categorized into four important categories centered on combos of market
development and market share, for this hence the name growth share matrix. Market progress
represents the industry attractive attractiveness, and market share stands for competitive knowledge.
This helps the advertising manager allocate resources and is used as an analytical device in company
advertising and marketing, product administration, strategic management and so forth. The basic idea
in the back of the BCG matrix is that if a product has a greater market share, or if the product s market
grows faster, it is higher for the company. Products are classified into four distinct groups, Stars, Cash
Cows, Problem Child and Dog. Let s have a look at what each one means for the product and the
decision making process
Dogs (Low share, Low growth)
Dogs have low market share and a low progress rate and accordingly neither generate nor consume a
significant sum of money. However, dogs are cash traps because of the money tied up in a trade that
has little competencies. Such companies are candidates for divestiture.
Star (High share and High growth)
Stars function in high growth industries and maintain very high market share. Stars are both cash
generators and cash users. They

Interphase Research Paper
Beginning with mitosis, the cell cycle starts in interphase. Interphase consists of three major events,
which are phases G1, S, and G2. Each phase within interphase prepares the cell differently. In the G1
phase there was an increases in the size of the cell, which allowed it to enter the S phase. Once the cell
was in the S phase, DNA was replicated producing two sister chromatids which were attached at their
centromeres. The process then proceeded into the G2 phase where certain proteins checked the
integrity of the DNA, if everything was in order the cell continued into the mitotic stages. The DNA

chosen quot; (179). Henchard s own anger toward Farfrae for stealing Lucetta and initially causing
Henchard to lose his business leads to Henchard challenging Farfrae in a fight to ones death. Henchard
defeats Farfrae, but spares his life. Without doubt, irresponsibility causes painful situations that people
must deal with, Henchard s negligence to keep a close eye on his business results in the bankruptcy of
the business. This unruly and negative behavior by Henchard and Jopp lead to both Jopp s
unemployment and Henchard loss of everything in his life that was important to him. Undeniably, the

Which Jurisdiction Should Govern The Agreement Between The...
The issues are what jurisdiction shall be used to govern the deal between the parties, issues with the
formation of the agreement, warranties, warranty damages, consequential damages, search costs, lost
profits, recession. The first issue is determining which jurisdiction should govern the agreement
between the parties Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code, the Common law, or the CISG? When
the subject matter of a transaction is for the sale of goods, Article 2 of the UCC is used to analyze the
deal between the parties. Article 2 of the UCC governs the formation, performance, and damages.
When the subject matter of the transaction is not for the sale of goods or is to provide a service, the
common law is used to analyze the deal between the parties. The Common law governs formation,
performance, and damages. When the transaction is for non consumer goods and between parties from
different nations, the Contracts for the International Sale of Goods is used to govern the transaction.
The CISG governs formation, performance, and damages. In this case, the party s agreement would be
considered a hybrid contact as the agreement includes a goods component, as well as a service
component. Since the agreement between the parties is a hybrid contract we can use the Predominate
Purpose Test or the Gravamen Test to determine whether the UCC or the Common law should govern.
Using the Predominate Purpose Test we can look at what the predominate purpose of the contract was

Notes On Sea Kayaking Force Wind
Kayaking
When everyone hears the word kayaking they all think about one type of boat and one type of
kayaking and they are sea kayaking and a sit on top. Let s talk about sea kayaking before boats and
different types of equipment shall we? Sea kayaking to most kayakers is an unknown place. People
who kayak don t generally think of going out on the sea. Either because they think that the tides will
drag them out or that it is to much work to move your boat, to these people I say that this is absolutely
not true and it is no harder to move on the sea than to move on a flowing river. admittedly on a river
you don t have big waves but still there is next to no difference in how hard it is to move, and as for
the tides unless you irresponsible and decide to go out in gala force wind, then the only thing you have
to think about is the current not the tide. Once you understand all of these variables you can have tons
of fun out there after all the sea is the biggest white water centre there is.
Away from sea kayaking let s look at some of the other aspects of kayaking. There are many different
types of kayaking there is white water kayaking that is all to do with what is basically throwing
yourself down the most wildest rivers you can and praying you come out the other end with yourself
and all your stuff intact. There is also slalom which is going through gates whilst going down a rapid,
and then there is freestyle. Now personally I like freestyle it is not really the kind of

Business Development in a Global Market Essay
Business Development in a Global Market Developing a business opportunity or introducing a new
product into the global market place is a risky business at the best of times. Strong and precise
business strategies along with extensive market research are the keys for developing a successful
global enterprise. This essay will cover the core fundamentals required to best enter the global market
while minimizing the risks. Core fundamentals include, indentifying potential markets, product
competition, risks involved, future growth potential, entry strategy and costs involved to enter the
market place. When identifying potential markets we must consider the benefit, risks and costs
associated with each market. There are several questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a risk that can be understood and managed with proper thought and investment. Political risks
are the complications businesses and governments may face as a result of political decisions or any
political change that changes the expected outcome and value of a given economic action by changing
the probability of achieving business objectives. Political risk faced by firms can be defined as the risk
of a strategic, financial, or personnel loss for a firm because of such nonmarket factors as
macroeconomic and social policies (fiscal, monetary, trade, investment, industrial, income, labour, and
developmental), or events related to political instability (terrorism, riots, coups, civil war, and
insurrection). For a business, the implication for political risk is that there is a measure of likelihood
that political events may complicate its pursuit of earnings through direct impacts (such as taxes or
fees) or indirect impacts (such as opportunity cost forgone). As a result, political risk is similar to an
expected value such that the likelihood of a political event occurring may reduce the desirability of
that investment by reducing its anticipated returns. There are both macro and micro level political
risks. Macro level political risk looks at non project specific risks. Types of risk include government
currency actions, regulatory changes, sovereign credit defaults, corruption, war declarations and
government

Phenomenology and Architecture Essay
Introduction
Phenomenology can be deemed to be both an unambiguous academic research field and a theoretical
design current within contemporary architecture and is usually founded on one s experience of the
materials used in construction inclusive of their sensory characteristics. In this regard, architecture is
the impetus towards transformation and inspiration of an individual s daily existence. Unlike other
forms of art, architecture employs the immediacy of an individual s sensory perception. The complete
architectural experience is dependent on many factors such as details, materials, texture, color
phenomena, transparency and shadows, time passage, etc. There is the huge phenomenon that
phenomenology does not exist in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ears are known to stroke the space edges although most contemporary cities have lost their echo
effects.
Time and Solitude
Silence is another element that can be married strongly with solitude and time. Tranquility is known to
be the most vital auditory experience that is created by architecture. Architecture is known for the
presentation of construction drama silenced into matter and space besides gaining definition as the art
of terrifying silence . External noise is known to be silenced by architectural experience as it centers
interest on an individual s very own existence. Like any other existing form of art, architecture ensures
that an individual is enlightened about fundamental solitude. At one fell swoop, architecture plays the
role of isolating individuals from the present situation and permits the individual in this particular
scenario to the firm and slow flow of tradition and time. Cities and buildings can also be museums and
instruments of time. They also aid us in the observation and comprehension of history s transition.
Architecture also plays the role of linking individuals to the dead; via the built environment
individuals are able to picture the somber procession a moving towards a church and the activities
within the medieval street. Architectural time is usually detained more so in great buildings where
time seems to be on a standstill or pause. So as to experience a

19th Century American Imperialism
Industrial revolution motivated European powers like France, Germany, and Britain to expand their
imperial rule in the 19th century. They believed imperial expansion and colonial domination were
necessary for their survival of their states and societies. Modern imperialism allowed European
powers to profit from subject societies and influence their affairs without having to apply direct
political control. Modern colonialism further allowed European powers to control the subject s lands
political, social, economic, and cultural structures. The major goals of European imperialism were
economic, political, military, and ideological reason. European nations need additional resources and
lands/trade routes, encouraging exploration that leads to national and personal glory, technologic ...

White colonizers believed that they had to impose their civilization on the distant lands because the
natives are uncivilized. It is the greatest possible mistake to suppose that a European can acquire a
greater influence by adopting the mode of life of the natives. In effect, it is to lower himself to their
plane, instead of elevating them to his (Capt. F.D. Lugard, 3). Imperialists viewed their beliefs as the
superior culture and if they were to adopt another culture rather than spread their, it would be a
downgrade for Europeans rather than help save the natives. Missionaries seek to introduce Christianity
to converts and other Europeans help civilized natives in political order and social stability.
Missionaries also have other benefits besides spreading Christianity. Missionaries help make
communication between imperialist and subject peoples easier, sometime provide information to
European officials on how to maintain control of oversea colonies, and their settlements also served as
a convenient meeting place for European overseas and as a distribution centers for European

The Importance Of Being In The Policy Debate
Debate is an activity that has existed for an extremely long time. People all over the world have
participated in debates, whether a debate in a formal setting or a friendly argument between
acquaintances. Policy debate is a form of debate in which high schoolers and college students discuss
policy ideas to fix problems happening in society. This has also expanded to include philosophical
ideas to fix social situations. Numerous students enter debate hoping to learn skills that could help
them one day to actually fix the problems of the status quo. This idea of why students do debate begs
the question of How does being in the policy debate community change and/or support one s desire for
creating change in the broader community? In regard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Help will always be there evidence it is evident that debaters will always help other debaters.
This also references the evidence in which people in debate feel superior for the reason that they feel
that helping others makes them better than those who don t. This also applies to those who run
affirmatives in which they discuss social issues that affect minorities, since they feel the need to help
those in pain, however most claim to be a part of that minority. Nevertheless, the debate community is
full of people who believe that they are actually creating change when they debate. This is evident in
the piece of evidence called Differing Views of Debate. Both teams were willing to risk the round to
chance seeing that they felt like the debate space is a place for education and community and that a
discussion of issues would be more productive in creating change. However, no one else is the room
to hear this discussion and thus the ideas and messages conveyed during the discussion wouldn t likely
move far past the room. On the other hand, as indicated in the evidence Why we do debate, there is a
whole heap to learn by doing debate. The author of this comment clearly shows the valuable skills one
learns from doing debate such as, greater political knowledge, better speaking skills, greater
philosophical knowledge, and research skills. These can all shape the student to

Unemployment During The Great Depression Essay
Unemployment Unemployment during the Great Depression was severe. In as early as 1933, the
fourth year of the Great Depression, the unemployment rate was almost 25 percent, which means more
than eleven million people were out of work. The unemployment rate was lower in states like
Michigan and Ohio, which had plenty of jobs dependant on massive industries. However, Washington
was hit hard, where one third of Washington was unemployed in early 1933. Some factors that also
caused unemployment were the collapse of the stock market, drought conditions which destroyed
agriculture, and deflation in prices. Businesses shut down and Government guarantees did nothing,
and unemployment increased since alternative job sources were not available.
Hoovervilles Hoovervilles are clusters of shacks made from crates, scraps of metal, stones, cardboard,
and other discarded materials that homeless people lived in during the Great Depression. The floors

18 million people were already assisted by private charities from state governments and local
governments. However, in 1933, when 13 million people were thrown out of work, state and local
governmental charities could no longer provide even the bare minimum for people. Food riots erupted,
husbands and fathers began abandoning their families, and 20% of the nation s children had poor
housing, poor medical care, and were malnourished. Franklin Delano Roosevelt expanded federal
responsibility for all American people, and in 1935, signed the Social Security Act, a national welfare
system, which promised a third of the total amount spent by states would go to dependent children
under 16. Additional federal welfare was provided to the elderly and crippled. During the great
depression, this welfare helped the less fortunate. Since the great depression, the national welfare

Essay On Pan s Labyrinth
Film Review: Pan s Labyrinth
For this extra credit assignment, I decided to write a film review on the movie Pan s Labyrinth
directed by Guillermo del Toro, the movie was produced in 2006. Guillermo del Toro has also worked
on many movies with unique characters such as Hellboy and Pacific Rim. Although, Pan s Labyrinth
has a main character that is a normal human, you will see many unique characters in this film.
This movie is based in Spain in 1944. A pregnant mother, Carmen, and her young daughter move in
with her new husband, who is a merciless captain of the Spanish army. The young girl is named
Ofelia, she is fascinated with fairy tales and has a wild imagination that gets her into a lot of trouble.
One night, she meets a fairy and they go into a labyrinth and in the middle of the labyrinth they meet a
faun. The faun tells Ofelia that she is a princess and that her real father is a king and that he is waiting
for her in his kingdom. However, in order for her to get into the kingdom, she must complete three
dangerous, gruesome tasks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of the film is dark and gloomy, however, when Ofelia goes into the labyrinth the scenes get
much brighter. For example, when she enters the room with all of the food, all of the colors were
much brighter than the rest of the room. The food scene was a bit graphic. I was startled and spooked
when she ate the grape and the creature came to life. The creature was also spooky because it looked
like a nude mad with very saggy skin and it s eyes are on it s palms so in order for it to see, It has to
put it s palms against it s head. It was something I have never seen before. I would cover your children
s eyes on this scene because it might give them nightmares. Much like the protagonist in many
movies, Ofelia accomplishes many of her tasks while barely escaping

Rockefeller Center Research Paper
Following a decade of a booming economy during the Roaring Twenties, New York suffered a period
of economic collapse, which began with the Wall Street Crash on Black Tuesday in 1929, and
continued with the Great Depression. The 1930s was a decade that was mostly consumed with
financial depression that left most of New York City in shambles. Many Americans did not see the
Depression coming, which resulted in mass panic that had a substantial effect on culture at the time.
New York City, was at the heart of the Depression, was also as a place of high architectural
advancement. Even in a crisis of economic failure, buildings such as the Chrysler Building, the
Empire State Building, and the Rockefeller Center were all colossal structures that were built that

Its distinctive architecture, outstanding tenants, and numerous amounts of facilities and services
separate it from other buildings created during that period. The Rockefeller Center reminds developers
and designers that the design of individual buildings did not need to be exquisite to be functional and
an improvement to the city. The Rockefeller Center was an innovator in providing a place complete
with service facilities and shops for its tenants and visitors. It was designed with users in mind to
attract people 24 hours a day for business, shopping, sightseeing, and for dining, theater or just plain
promenading on its tree shaded esplanades and flower filled plazas. The users of the Center could be
credited for the success of the Center, as they are vital for the practicality of what was envisioned the
Center would be used for. This was different as other buildings during this time were built to house as
many tenants as possible explaining why architects strived to construct buildings as tall as possible.
Architects of these other buildings did not take urban planning to the extent that the Rockefeller

Cape Breton Case Study
Executive Summary Cape Breton Boat Rentals is a boat rental company owned by Bruce MacLean
and operated by his brother Malcolm Maclean. Although their reception was welcoming in the year
1988, their selling price could be said is at below the actually operating cost. To avoid the same
situation in 1989, the MacLean bothers had to improvise and make aggressive decisions like for
example tripling their advertisements. We will show possible ways and methods on how they would
have improved in marketing concepts. We will go through the marketing characteristics, marketing
mix and marketing concepts that were and should be applied. We feel Malcolm MacLean is stealing
money from the business.

3.0 Question 2
3.1 Intangibility
Intangibility means the incapacity to assess the value gained from using an intangible service where it
can t be seen, touched, tasted, smelled or stored (Palmer, 2000). In intangibility there are two different
aspects that could be looked into which is the search quality and experience. The search quality is
when they observe the product without experiencing it at first hand. In reality they would know what
they would want to rent like for example kayaks, canoes or a motorboat by only looking at it but have
not experienced it yet. The experience is when the customer has rented the tangible product and has
had an experience using it while being able to assess whether it is satisfactory or not. Once the service
rented is satisfactory, the customers would tend to return to the same place as they would have
confidence on the service obtained. Services are harder to market to potential customers compared to
goods as there is no physical evidence to showcase. This is where the advertisements, brochures and
customers word of mouth play a big role. The advertisements and brochures has to be crystal clear and
direct to capture the attention of potential customers, giving them an idea of the services that might be
purchased, which in this case is rental of various boats.

  • 5. Alcoholic Techniques In Leaving Las Vegas Leaving Las Vegas, directed by Mike Figgis and based on the autobiographical novel by John O Brien, is an emotional story about an alcoholic who rejects life and wants to drink himself to death in Las Vegas, and an unselfish prostitute who loves him the way he is. Ben, played by Nicholas Cage, was a former movie producer in Los Angeles and has obviously crumbled in the glamour world of Hollywood which is shown in the opening scene. Here Ben is already an alcoholic when he disturbs former colleagues that are embarrassed of his appearance at the restaurant. Ben is unstable and a mess when one of the men give him money and tell him not to contact him again. Ben then gets fired and ultimately decides to drink himself to death in Las Vegas, a ... The two shot and the over the shoulder shot were used often to build a situation or emotion between the two characters before usually going over to a close up to highlight how each character reacts by their facial expressions. The director mainly used eye level shots, to leave it up to the audience to judge the two main characters of the movie, although certain power struggles in the film are shown from high angles to illustrate someone dominating a conversation or argument. Figgis also uses some point of view shots to show the imbalance during Ben s drunken periods where the camera is placed at an oblique angle to show tension and approaching movements. The images in the film are in high contrast with streaks of blackness and harsh shafts of light to underline the dramatic events that occur. When it comes to the editing, Figgis mainly used cutting to continuity to preserve the fluidity of most events without the necessity to show them all. The director also uses flash forwards a few times to give you an idea about the destiny of Sera, which is shown when she reflects about her encounter with Ben to an invisible therapist. Figgis also shot the movie using Super 16mm film to give it a tense, documentary feel. The music is also very unique because the jazzy soundtrack isn t the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Rifleman Dodd Book Report Rifleman Dodd By: C.S. Forester Rifleman Dodd is a fictional novel that follows the struggle of one British rifleman I chose this book because as a junior Marine it seemed like it would relate to me and many of the diverse situations I was being faced with. Rifleman Dodd provided me with a motivation to learn as much as I could and to always apply my knowledge and training to any given scenario. This book follows a British Rifleman fighting in the French, Portuguese War in 1807. Matthew Dodd, the main character in this novel, must conquer many mental and physical challenges to complete his mission. In a risky retreat to the lines of Torres Vedras, Rifleman Dodd is left behind in this costly maneuver. Doing so, this shows the reader how effective the proper use of applied training can be when used correctly. Another scenario would be when Private Dodd uses proper cover and concealment to sneak through a French checkpoint and burn down a bridge that was being built for a French attack. These tactics came to his success in the long run, eventually reuniting Rifleman Dodd back to his soldiers near the end of the book. Although he never expected to be a hero or anything of the sort, Dodd took the initiative to help stop the French advancement regardless of the things ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Launched in 2011, Uber is currently available to over sixty countries, including the Philippines. This transportation service has proved to be a convenient and innovative way of getting from point A to point B. Maintaining a 4.5 star rating on the Apple App Store and a 4 star rating Google Play Store, it is obvious that the public s reception of Uber is positive. Andrew said that GrabTaxi drivers can refuse to take a passenger which would only cause inconvenience, unlike Uber wherein the drivers cannot turn down a passenger. He also added that the vehicles for Uber needed to at least be the 2013 model or newer so that ensures comfort for both the driver and the passenger. Another advantage that Uber has over GrabTaxi, according to Andrew, is that the mode of payment is credit card and not cash. Because of this mode of payment, the drivers need not worry about giving change, nor do the passengers need to consider if the amount of money they are carrying is enough to pay for the trip. Andrew also added that Uber is safer than GrabTaxi for both the driver and the rider for they both learn a few details about each other before the ride starts, and at the end of a trip, the passenger and the driver rate each other through the app which serves as feedback which will be seen by the next driver/passenger. I expected the answers he gave since the reasons he enumerated are also the same reasons I use Uber instead of GrabTaxi. Basically, Uber is easier to use, safer, and more ... • 9. Lender Liability and the Duty of Good Faith Lender Liability and the Duty of Good Faith I. Introduction From time to time, lenders and their attorneys announce that lender liability is no longer an issue with which the lending community needs to be concerned. What usually prompts this proclamation of the death of lender liability is a recent case in which a court has summarily rejected a borrower s claim that the lender violated the duty of good faith and fair dealing. Many courts have rejected borrowers lawsuits which are based on allegations of the violation of the lender s duty of good faith. Nevertheless, lender liability should continue to be an area of concern to lenders. Although courts often dismiss cases based on a borrower s claims of lender bad faith, in other ... Then a discussion of the objective and subjective test of good faith will take place before finally concluding that the good faith obligation should not be imposed in debtor creditor situations to override express terms of a contract. II. The U.C.C. A. The Good Faith Performance Obligation and the U.C.C. The central provision of the U.C.C. s good faith requirement is found in § 1 203, which provides that every contract or duty within this Act imposes an obligation of good faith in its performance or enforcement. With regard to debtor creditor relationships in particular, this obligation of good faith performance imposes on a lender a duty to deal in good faith with its borrower in all situations, not only in situations where, because of the circumstances of the loan, the lender has assumed actual control over and a fiduciary responsibility for the borrower. One troublesome but important aspect of the good faith performance obligation is its application to contracts, which provide that one party to the contract may, in its sole discretion, take certain actions pursuant to the contract. In such cases, the actions of the party who can exercise its discretion may affect all parties to the contract, and dependent parties must rely on the good faith of the party given the right to exercise its discretion. Often, the discretion exercised by the party in control will adversely affect the dependent party. However, it does not necessarily follow that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many countries have taken different legal paths to deal with prostitution. These paths include; prohibition, making all forms of prostitution illegal; legalize, making all forms legal; and decriminalizing, normalizing prostitution. The debate of how to handle prostitution cannot be discussed until prostitution is understood. The justice system assumes that deterring people from participating in prostitution will prevent the spread of sexual transmitted diseases but this is not the case and has not always been the argument against prostitution. In an article called Why is Prostitution Criminalized? An Alternative Viewpoint on the Construction of Sex Work, by Rebecca Hayes Smith and Zahar Sherkarkhar, researches argue that before the nineteenth century the debate was based on moral grounds, but after the nineteenth century it was shifted to the medical issues. It is especially interesting that, At the time doctors urged the government to regulate and license prostitution so that prostitutes would be required to take medical exams, because medical professionals were only wanting exams while the government pushed that illegalization was the only way to prevent the spread of STDs (Smith and Sherkarkahr 45). Nonetheless, protecting prostitutes and clients from STDs is a big concern in all countries but illegalization is not the way to protect the public. • 11. The Main Theme Of Steve Bruce s God Is Dead The main theme of Steve Bruce s God is Dead is about secularisation. In this book he argues that secularisation is not a single notion and goes on to explore the many factors he believes has contributed to secularisation. Bruce takes a sociological point of view as he draws on tradition starting from Durkheim and Weber to more recent sociologist such as Martin and Niebuhr. Bruce states that the aim of the first chapter is to clear the way for sensible debate about secularisation (2002: p.1) and to lay out what modern sociologists actually mean by secularisation. Within this book Bruce uses a range of literature from other sociologists regarding the secularisation debate in order to present and argue that secularisation is occurring. Bruce does acknowledge that there are many interpretations of what secularisation is and does say that there is no one secularisation theory (2002: p.2). But rather, there are groups of similar explanations that adhere to each other quite well. According to Bruce trying to define secularisation before offering explanations of it is harder as scholars tend to combine their definitions. However he does use other sociologists definitions of secularisation, he uses Berger and Luckmann s definition that shows the decline of religious social power, as they define it as, the progressive autonomization of societal sectors from the domination of religious meaning and institutions . The second definition of secularisation that Bruce gives is Wilson s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My read of question one, part one is that Burton s leadership behavior was most certainly that of a charismatic leader. He was a visionary, could effectively articulate his visions and exuded a confidence and optimism that inspired and motivated his followers. He was willing to take personal risks and make self sacrifices to attain the vision, at least initially. He used strong expressive forms of communication when articulating the vision. With respect to his followers, he communicated high expectations, expressed optimism and confidence in them and empowered them. Evidence of charismatic leadership is provided by the leader follower relationship, and a charismatic leader has profound and unusual effects on followers. This was certainly the case initially where the organization provided, a better way for people to work together, thereby unleashing their creativity and improving productivity. • 13. A Basic Understanding Of Network Competencies Essay A basic understanding of network competencies is necessary to succeed in most technology fields and it is a foundational requirement for roles that deal directly with network communications. In today s connected world of the cloud, apps that depend on internet connectivity, and even thermostats that can have their temperature set across the internet, the need to understand how networking works is expanding beyond the traditional roles of Network Administrators, Network Engineers, and information security professionals to developers, systems administrators, analysts, and support personnel. A fundamental understanding of networking is necessary to succeed in most technology jobs. Two such jobs are the Systems Administrator and the Systems Analyst, which have different training and educational requirements. While much of the Systems Administrator s job revolves around network related tasks, they also spend a lot of time on servers, software systems, databases, and storage. Systems Administrators can be responsible for networking and most of what they do depends on the network, the majority of their time is spent on Servers, software systems like Active Directory or databases, applications, and storage. Most mid to large organizations will have at least one dedicated Network Administrator or Network Engineer. The Systems Analyst job has a much wider skill set, but it also includes some knowledge of computer networking. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics website, ... It is about the story of how a group of extractors infiltrate the minds of their targets, extracting information and planting ideas, which is called inception. After watching this movie, I was deeply impressed by its careful designation, the precise logic of the scenarios, its method of narration, as well as its use of symbols through the plot. An effective storyteller always draws the audience s attention. The narrative structure reveals the theme of the contrast and comparison between real life and life in dreams, and the representative symbols in the movie. Some techniques are also to be appreciated. To analyze the narrative structure, the main plot should be introduced at the beginning. Dominick Cobb and Arthur are extractors who are able to create dream scenarios that seems to be the real world, and they are able to lead other people into the dream worlds that they build and invade their subconscious, thereby getting valuable information. In a corporate espionage attempt, Cobb and Arthur are commanded to steal Saito s business secret. Rather than relaxing and having optimal time to heal, hospitals can create stressful environments for patients as well as employees. A new type of hospital setting breaking out in the healthcare industry are healing hospitals that provides a patient centered environment. In this paper I will discuss the aspects of a healing hospital, its relationship to spirituality, the challenges of creating a healing environment, and finally the biblical aspects of a healing hospital. What is a Healing Hospital? A healing hospital is a place that is patient centric and focuses on making the patient relaxed and allow healing in a peaceful environment. The three aspects of a healing hospital include a quiet environment, integrating technology into care, and providing compassionate care to patients. These components are beneficial to both hospital staff and patients. By providing a noise free environment caregivers are less apt to get distracted (Eberst, 2008, pg. 78). When hospital staff have a calm environment where they can think through situations, the right decision is more likely to be made. Distractions can be detrimental to the health of a patient. Nurses should be confident in their decision making process and know that they are making the right choice. Arguement For Rewarding Human Organs Many people believe that they should be rewarded for saving another person s life by donating an organ for them, claiming that they had a choice, so they should be praised for making the right decision to give it away! Well, if that s true, then we should be rewarded for picking up garbage that we dropped, or washing our hands after we use the restroom. People aren t ordinarily rewarded, or praised, for something we are already expected to do. But, that is what is expected to happen when donating organs. • 19. Birthday Mark by Nathaniel Hawthorne The discovery of electricity opened the door to many mysteries that challenged scientists of the nineteenth century. Nathaniel Hawthorne writes of some challenges that man could run into during the exploration and application of new technology in The Birthmark. These challenges are not entirely physical but they are more so about an internal struggle within Victorian mindsets. In The Birthmark there are only three characters: Aylmer, a scientist, Georgiana, Aylmer s wife, and Aminadab, Aylmer s lab assistant. Hawthorne isolates the characters in their caste to present individual viewpoints of a tragic flaw. Each character promotes innocence but they are caught up in traditional values. Aminadab is a complete contrast to Aylmer but none of Aylmer s experiments would be possible without the help of this human machine (Hawthorne, 298). He is of great importance to Aylmer, but Hawthorne makes it clear that Aylmer thinks of himself much higher than the common man. Aminadab s importance to the story lies within the fact that he is an invisible character everywhere except the lab. His profound contrast to Aylmer s character away from Georgiana provides the reader with a clearer picture of the mad scientist as he attempts to overthrow nature. When Aylmer fails to do so, Aminadab laughs triumphantly at the tragic hero s attempt to control nature. These two characters show opposing thoughts and reactions to the murder of Aylmer s now perfect, dead bride. Hawthorne s heavy use of symbolism carries a lot of undertones that reveals irony on many levels as he wraps up the story. The most obvious is that Aylmer murders his lovely bride when he perfects Nature. Georgiana is enamored by Aylmer s experiments even though he often fails. She gains confidence and submits herself willingly but only to vicariously pursue happiness through her husband s experiment. Knowing that her birthmark makes her an object of horror to the one she loves, she finds life to be a burden and is willing to risk her own life for both of their happiness (Hawthorne 292). ... Governments continue to use the threat of a nuclear attack as a deterrent. However, small terrorist groups may not feel threatened by a nuclear attack due to their mobility. Thus, the question remains; are nuclear weapons a necessary safety, or a danger. The solution is therefore to observe the pros and cons of nuclear capabilities, and to look at some precautions that can be taken to help protect people. As long as the plug and the cylinder and the plug are separated, nothing happens. Both parts quietly emit a small amount of radiation, however, neither of the two pieces has enough mass to cause a serious reaction. Some Uranium atoms are reacting and producing radiation, but there are not any other atoms that are close enough for a chain reaction to start. However, when the two pieces are brought together, a violent reaction occurs. This happens because there is such a high density of Uranium that when one atom reacts it causes another atom to react and this sets off a chain reaction (Dr. Donald Nye). In a nuclear generator rods of Uranium, that are producing radiation, are inserted into giant tanks of water, the reaction occurring by the proximity of the Uranium atoms causes the rods to generate heat, this in turn heats the water producing steam. The steam is the used to push a turban, or something else to create work, which in turn gives us energy. There are also certain safety measures put in place in case of an emergency to help keep the Uranium from reaching critical mass. The fact that the rods are in water is mainly what keeps the explosion from happening and not as much Uranium is used. If there is an emergency lead panels will drop between the rods preventing the reaction from continuing to occur and cold water is pumped into the tanks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Circular Plot In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men The Circular Plot in Of Mice and Men The author, John Steinbeck, utilizes a circular plot structure in his novel, Of Mice and Men, to show how prejudice and the impossibility of wishful desires will always be prevalent in society. He integrates multiple examples through the characters of this story; each individual representing a role in society. As Lennie and George travel from ranch to ranch, their dreams are challenged and Lennie is one of many who faces discrimination. To commence, repetition is used to introduce how Lennie has always been discriminated against due to his mental disability. For example, as they arrived on the new ranch, Lennie claims George said he was his cousin to the boss they had met. Conversely, George retorts that what he said was a lie, declaring that if he was a relative of [Lennie], [he d] shoot [himself] (Steinbeck 24). This illustrates how Lennie is often ridiculed for his condition, George concealing it to avoid losing their opportunity of receiving the Job on the ranch. This moment is one of many situations George has mistreated Lennie to some extent. Further evidence is when George explains to Slim what had discouraged him from mocking Lennie. He confesses to Slim that he played jokes on Lennie because it made him appear smart alongside of him, only stopping when he orders Lennie to jump in the lake. Personal Reflection On Bowling After having the opportunity to take a bowling class this semester, I have learned much more about bowling and how it can be used as an overall fitness program and healthy lifestyle. As almost anything in life bowling has it benefits and its weakness. It s worth to further explore them and discuss these ideas further. First we talk about how bowling can be played for fun with friends and family, we than talk about that it s competitive sport and it can be treated like many of the popular sports out there. Than we go on to talk about the benefits of using bowling as a fitness for a healthy lifestyle, and then we move on to talk some of the area where bowling doesn t help when we are talking about a healthy lifestyle, we also tie everything together at the end and compare using bowling as fitness sport to other sports, and finally we go on to give a personal reflection of my overall opinion on bowling and my future plans for playing bowling in my life. Bowling can be played for fun, and because of the nature of bowling, it is perhaps more suitable for playing for fun compared to other sports. The obvious advantage here is that it requires very little atheletism and physical ability to just play, this is not the case for sports like basketball, football, tennis and soccer. Where in other to have a fun game there is a certain standard of the athletic abilities and skills of the players involved. Unlike bowling where anyone can just play. Additionally, in bowling there is room for conversation and jokes more so than any of the sports mentioned above, so the ability for social interaction is certainly greater. It is easy to do when you are sitting comfortably and waiting for your turn. The situation itself actually encourages this, since it s the only logical thing to do. This is a huge advatange of bolwing and it makes this activity very fun. This is ideal for someone that has a problem with depression.Depression is an issues for many individuals so having a sport like this is a great since it allows friends and coworkers to get together on a weekly basis and interact with each other. The Great Gatsby Freudian Analysis Essay A Freudian Analysis of The Great Gatsby Sigmund Freud, a psychological genius, created an entirely new system that dealt with the understanding of the human personality. This technique, called psychoanalysis, consists of three subdivisions. The id responds directly to his or her instincts, while the superego relies on his or her sense of guilt. Lastly, the ego represents reality, or the balance between the id and superego. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, the three levels of subconsciousness are ideally filled by the main characters, Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby, and Nick Carraway. The id is not affected by reality, logic or the everyday world, as it operates within the unconscious part of the mind (McLeod). Tom Buchanan lived in his own mind. There were over 40 independent groups and each of them had a distinct name, dialect and territory. The San Joaquin Valley is bounded by mountains on the east, west and south and to the north flow the Kern and San Joaquin rivers into the ocean. The climate in the valley is hot with dry mild summers, semiarid winters and very minimal precipitation. Originally, the area was rich in a network of rivers, streams, lakes and sloughs fed by waters from Sierra Nevada to the east and it is very productive and rich in resources such as food, wood for construction, firewood and manufacturing tools. After these rivers and streams were diverted for agricultural purposes, the valley dried up and became a vast area of farmland. The foothills elevations are higher and cooler and are occupied by some Yokuts groups. They managed their environment both passively and actively to improve forage for deer, eliminate underbrush growth, make it easy to traverse, and for hunters as well. Passively, they did religious ceremonies to ensure the continuation of favorable conditions. The Yokuts spoke the Penutian language but each mini tribe spoke a different dialect. The pressure difference between the blade pressure surface and the blade suction surface induces tip leakage flow, which increases heat transfer in the blade tip region. In this paper, the three dimensional flow and heat transfer are examined for an internally cooled blade cascade with tip injection using numerical technique. The three dimensional turbulent flow was obtained by solving Reynolds averaged Navier Stokes equations and the energy equation. No matter what, always check to make sure there is no ammunition in the gun. Another big rule is to remember that the safety (which is to prevent the gun from firing) of the gun is a mechanical device and can fail. The use of reflexivity has and will always be questioned in anthropology. Malinowski, who was a pioneer in the field of anthropology, discouraged the use of reflexivity; he, instead, believed that anthropology was scientific and could produce concrete evidence (Malinowski 17). These ethnographies have been also called inadequate science (Visweswaran 21); this is in relation to Malinowski s belief that anthropology is a structured and scientific method. It is ironic then that men are heralded as exemplars of this new genre (Visweswaran 22) when women began reflexivity before them. Visweswaran goes on to analyze these formerly unknown and ignored female texts; she looks at these ethnographies to make her own ethnography. These ethnographies, for Visweswaran, are ethnographies in the text themselves; they reveal the female author s complex negotiation of positionality within a single gender domain (Visweswaran 27). • 38. An Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living The Examined or Unexamined Life Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher who lived from 470 BC to 399 BC. Today he is credited with many influential philosophical ideas and quotes, but one in particular An unexamined life is not worth living . What Socrates means by this quote is that a life without the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge is no life at all. Socrates reflects on this idea to his audience of jurors during his trial. The men of Athens felt threatened by Socrates, believing him spreading his philosophical ideas would disrupt their way of life and order in the city of Athens. During his trial Socrates pleads his ignorance about the world around him and that all he wishes to do is to explore his thought and attempt to gain as much knowledge as he can. Throughout his life Socrates has gained a number of enemies and critics just for being a curious person. He understands this and preaches it to his jurors at the trial explaining to them that he would venture around the city conversing with professionals of a certain craft, not for the purpose of exposing their ignorance of the world around them but to learn for himself along with attempting to teach them to think critically and on their own. Socrates uses the craftsmen as an example in his defense. He explains that he approaches the craftsmen to become more knowledgeable about their profession and that they would be wiser than he was about the subject, he goes on to say the good craftsmen seemed to me to have the ... It is a good known device for an advertising manager. It s based on the commentary that a company s business models can be categorized into four important categories centered on combos of market development and market share, for this hence the name growth share matrix. Market progress represents the industry attractive attractiveness, and market share stands for competitive knowledge. This helps the advertising manager allocate resources and is used as an analytical device in company advertising and marketing, product administration, strategic management and so forth. The basic idea in the back of the BCG matrix is that if a product has a greater market share, or if the product s market grows faster, it is higher for the company. Products are classified into four distinct groups, Stars, Cash Cows, Problem Child and Dog. Let s have a look at what each one means for the product and the decision making process Dogs (Low share, Low growth) Dogs have low market share and a low progress rate and accordingly neither generate nor consume a significant sum of money. However, dogs are cash traps because of the money tied up in a trade that has little competencies. Such companies are candidates for divestiture. Each phase within interphase prepares the cell differently. In the G1 phase there was an increases in the size of the cell, which allowed it to enter the S phase. Once the cell was in the S phase, DNA was replicated producing two sister chromatids which were attached at their centromeres. The process then proceeded into the G2 phase where certain proteins checked the integrity of the DNA, if everything was in order the cell continued into the mitotic stages. The DNA content in the G1 phase was the same at the beginning and the end but changed in the S phase. People who kayak don t generally think of going out on the sea. Either because they think that the tides will drag them out or that it is to much work to move your boat, to these people I say that this is absolutely not true and it is no harder to move on the sea than to move on a flowing river. admittedly on a river you don t have big waves but still there is next to no difference in how hard it is to move, and as for the tides unless you irresponsible and decide to go out in gala force wind, then the only thing you have to think about is the current not the tide. In intangibility there are two different aspects that could be looked into which is the search quality and experience. The search quality is when they observe the product without experiencing it at first hand. In reality they would know what they would want to rent like for example kayaks, canoes or a motorboat by only looking at it but have not experienced it yet. The experience is when the customer has rented the tangible product and has had an experience using it while being able to assess whether it is satisfactory or not. Once the service rented is satisfactory, the customers would tend to return to the same place as they would have confidence on the service obtained. Services are harder to market to potential customers compared to goods as there is no physical evidence to showcase. This is where the advertisements, brochures and customers word of mouth play a big role.
