Essay On User Profiling
User Profiling: A Survey from Modeling to Personalization Abstract The growth of the available
information on the web and the diversity of its users is a valuable resource for personalization. The
user profile includes the essential information about the user and it is an outcome of the user profiling
process. Building and maintaining dynamic user profile is the main challenge in developing an
effective personalized application. Many research projects and companies are interesting in
developing modeling systems and personalizing user s interaction with the system. We examine what
information is being modeled for presenting various user models, how this information is acquired and
collected, how the user model is represented and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It may include demographic information, e.g., name, age, country, education level, etc. and should
capture the behavior (patterns, goals, interesting topics, etc.) of a user shows when interacting with the
Web. User modeling is defined as the process of gathering information about user s interests,
constructing, maintaining and using user profiles. For example in e business systems, it captures
online users characteristics, knows online users, provides customized products and services, and
therefore improve user satisfaction. There are two approaches in user modeling process. These are the
generation of an initial user profile for a new user and the continuous update of the profile information
to adapt user s changing preferences, interests and needs. A major challenge within user profiling is
how user profiles can be constructed that accurately reflects users preferences. User profiling
techniques have widely applied in various web search, user adaptive software systems, web user
identification, personalization, recommendation, e market analysis, intelligent tutoring systems,
intelligent agents, as well as personalized information retrieval and filtering. The personalized systems
require some information about users in order to learn and respond to their interests and needs. The
motivation of building user profiles is that each system

Be More Chill by Ned Vizzini
Did you ever want to be cool but didn t know how to become cool? Well neither did Jeremy Heere,
(the protagonist) a high school student, until he found out about the squip , which is a quantum
computer in pill form that can communicate with your brain once swallowed. Be More Chill by Ned
Vizzini is a book about Jeremy s life all the way from PRE SQUIP all the way to POST SQUIP. It
contains loads of excitement, and unusual events. It s unpredictable; you never know what is going to
happen next.

She then tells him that Jason Finderman (minor character) is having a party, and asks Jeremy if he
wants to go and do ecstasy with her. He agrees to, and asks Michael to go with him. Jeremy drives to
the party in his mom s car with Michael and goes in the basement with Chloe. While in the basement
with Chloe, Brock, (minor character) Chloe s ex boyfriend, breaks the window and threatens to kill
Jeremy. Jeremy then runs off and hides from Brock. Jeremy then walks over to Christine, who seems
to be sitting alone, and sits and talks with her. After the party Jeremy had to drop off home Christine,
Chloe, Brock, Michael, and Nicole, (minor character) some girl Michael hooked up with at the party.
The next day Jeremy finds out that there was a fire at Jake s party last night, and that Rich and Jake
were burned. That same day Jeremy s mom and dad confront him and ask what happened at the party
last night and why his mom s car was parked differently. This then made him tell the truth about him
having a squip and what it is. The next day is the play, A Midsummer Night s Dream, both Jeremy and
Christine are in the play. The squip gives Jeremy advice to have Christine like him which turns around
the whole story and ends up backfiring, in the middle of the play which makes Christine extremely
angry with him, making him look like an idiot in front of everyone. After the scene Jeremy is forced to

Reflective Essay On Civil Rights
During our time in class, we discussed several themes pertaining to the rights and freedoms of the
LGBTQ community, and spoke at length about some of the landmark cases that helped to give the
community the liberties that they enjoy today. In order to better understand the struggle that the
community had to endure in order to achieve these rights, we will review several different cases and
tie them to things we learned in class, analyzing the roles that they played in achieving progress in
various fields that were once dangers for members of this group. By understanding some of the
landmark legal actions that were made in the quest for equal rights, perhaps then we can more fully
understand the extent of the obstacles that they have overcome. And not all of these cases go in their
favor, either, showing that even at the highest echelons of the American legal system, there have been
and still continue to be significant prejudices which must be faced day in and day out. The most
important step forward in the timeline of LGBTQ rights was the acceptance that homosexual acts
were, in fact, not crimes, and that homosexuals could live in the open without fear of repercussion
from the law. In class, we discussed the case of Bowers v. Hardwick, which upheld the
constitutionality of sodomy laws and effectively criminalized homosexual relations until the 2003 case
of Lawrence v. Texas, which reversed the decision. Just two years after the decision in Lawrence v
Texas came down,

How Reiki Is Considered As A Form Of Healing Essay
This assignment evaluates the topic of reiki, which is considered as a form of healing. To begin, it
provides a definition and highlights reiki s application in mainstream medicine. This forms scientific
assumptions of the use of the scientific method. This highlights credibility, methodology and
reliability as a precursor of application to public health. As a result, it firstly demonstrates credibility
through the process of gathering scientific facts from reliable sources. Journals are found using the
British Psychological Society (BPS) and PsycINFO. This subsequently provides empirical research
for critical review. Secondly, it explores methodology from a selection of these journals. It includes
the necessity of operational definitions, value and measurement, and construct validity. Finally, it
therefore demonstrates the reliability of results as scientific data, to infer robust conclusions. This will
provide the basis of the argument to evaluate if reiki is science or pseudoscience. Reiki Application
Firstly, reiki is described as an ancient Japanese form of therapeutic healing (Baldwin, Rand Schwartz,
2013; Baldwin, Wagers Schwartz, 2008; Cuneo et al., 2011; Diaz Rodriguez et al., 2011; Richeson,
Spross, Lutz Peng, 2010; Shore, 2004). Its efficacy claims to improve human welfare a shared
perspective of many science applications (Anderson, 1998). Its mechanism is theorised as a natural

Perception Vs. Reality By John Green
Paper Towns: Perception vs. Reality The book Paper Towns by John Green is a story about going past
the imagination to actually know somebody. Quentin, who is convinced he is in love with the wild and
adventurous Margo, goes on a journey to find her when she ran away. Through this journey, he finds a
new Margo, the real Margo. Instead of imagining the Margo of his dreams, who is perfect and daring,
he sees a different side, like looking through a fun house mirror. Using the theme of perceptions vs.
reality, John Green shows readers through Quentin that you have to dig deeper in order to know and
understand someone.
Margo s peers think of Margo as this beautiful, free spirited girl, but they do not really know who she
is inside. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ben even pays attention to how Margo is and how she acts. He recognizes how adventurous and
awesome she is without even really knowing her. He is using stories to assume the way is or the way
she acts, even to the extent of predicting her future.
At first, Quentin has trouble seeing Margo past her outer beauty and can t think of her as just a normal
person. Quentin and Margo go up to the top of the SunTrust building. When looking at the city of
Orlando from that building, Quentin says that it is beautiful. He suggests this because you cannot see
the rust or the weeds. You can see it the way it was imagined to be. Margo then says, Everything is
uglier close up (Green 57) and then Quentin replies, Not you (Green 57). Quentin doesn t really
understand who Margo is. Quentin isn t thinking about how the closer you get, the more flaws are
shown. He is just thinking about external beauty. Margo is about to get revenge on her boyfriend for
cheating with her best friend. Quentin wonders why he would cheat and Margo thinks it is because her
friend is more attractive than her. Quentin basically says that Margo is so much more attractive. Margo
responds to this by saying, That always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people would want to be
around someone because they re pretty. It s like picking your breakfast cereals based on colour instead
of taste (Green 37). Margo is basically calling Quentin

Economic, Social, and Political Problems in the Post-Civil...
Americans suffered many economic, social, and political problems in the post Civil War era. I have
identified one of each of these types of problems that I believe were among the most important during
the period of 1865 1900. The economic issue that I believe had one of the biggest impacts on
Americans at the time is the Great Railroad Strike of 1877. The social issue that I feel greatly affected
America after the Civil War is Chinese immigration. One of the biggest political issues, to me, is the
Populist Party. I feel that the Great Railroad Strike of 1887 was a major issue because it made
Americans realize just how deeply Americans were invested in the railroads. At the time, the biggest
investment banking firm in America, Jay Cooke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strike lasted all of 45 days, and became to lose steam and effectively come to a halt after President
Hayes sent federal troops from city to city. There is no exact record of the losses faced by the country
during this strike, but it is reported that the engineers and firemen s brotherhoods lost approximately
$600,000 over the forty five days of the strike, while for the Burlington Railroad the losses were at
least $2,100,000. In Pittsburgh, it was estimated that property damage reached over three million
dollars, with Chicago, Baltimore and other cities facing losses of a similar magnitude.
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Railroad_Strike) I believe that Chinese immigration during the
period after the Civil War was a very big issue because it showed just how unwilling ordinary, white
citizens were to let another inferior race into the country. Chinese immigrants had been arriving in
large quantities starting during the mid 19th century. Most of worked as laborers, usually on the
transcontinental railroad (such as the Central Pacific Railroad) and in the mines. They suffered racial
discrimination for a long time due to industrial employers being eager to get this new and cheap labor,
but the ordinary white public being angered by the oncoming of the so called yellow peril. Political
party gatherings, labor unions, and other organizations rallied against the immigration of yet another

Audre Lorde s Essay On Intersectionality
Audre Lorde s essay on intersectionality highlights the point that there is not a single issue fight
because we do not live day to day with our single issue lives (Lorde, pg 654). Acknowledging that we
are beneath the dominant class is important to reconstruct the structural power. Intersectionality
requires power that fortifies how our differences come together on both an individual level an a
collective foundation. There are many issues we tend not to even look at because the women that it
affects usually have always been overlooked for the dominant groups oppressed world (Lorde, pg
656). I think intersectionality is a very important component in feminism because without it you re

Pierre later tells him Don t you feel more and more trapped? First you shaved your moustache, then
your whiskers ... I m afraid you look more and more like a child ... You don t belong to anyone you

The babysitter responds with it s the law, you know. So God is protecting me. This response brings up
the concept that Muslim women are childlike needing to be saved. An intersectional translation of
islamophobic misogyny. I believe this scene particularly highlights the point that gender trumps
religious faith and ethnicity. Johnson Reagon says that a coalition is not a home and should not feel
comfortable (Reagon, pg 259). This film debunks the myth that all women share a common
experience simply by being a female. (Reagon, pg 360). However, when we see all women get
together, we begin to see the differences between all of us including race, sexuality, status, age, able
ism, etc. I believe Pierre standing up for a man in this scene shows that he was aware of the difference

Essay On Knights Vs Samurai
Knights vs Samurai essay
From researching about knights and samurai, I believe that in a battle between a knight and samurai,
the knight would have a greater chance in winning. This is because knights focused more on fighting
techniques and how to improve them, rather than focusing on spiritual beliefs and traditions as well,
which is what the samurai did. The knights also had very strong and good armour which helped a lot
in battles, while the samurai s armour changed a lot but wasn t ever as effective as the knight s armour.
The knight s weapons were also more advanced and better then the samurai weapons.
In my first reason, I believe that a knight would win against a samurai because a knight focused more
on training and fighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My second reason is that the knights had very strong and effective armour, whereas the samurai s
armour was always changing and was never as good as the knight s armour, as samurai depended
more on their fighting skills instead of the armour. The samurai armour was made up of several
sections. The main body is called a do or cuirass, and is made from plates or lamellae (small oblong
shaped pieces of steel linked by strips of leather and covered with layers of lacquer). The helmet has a
crest and a hair pommel. There is also a face mask, which would have been decorated with ugly
features intended to scare the enemy. Extra protection is provided by a coverage of the neck (made of
jointed metal) and shoulder guards (made from small plates laced together, with silk allowing
movement). Thigh and calf guards are made from a combination of chain mail and plates. Underneath
the samurai s armour, the samurai would wear a one piece baggy garment with a special kimono (the
kimono looks a bit like a dressing gown). This did mean that the samurai would be more likely to get
injured, as the armour would only offer very little protection. Samurai armour was designed to help
the Samurai move comfortably and efficiently when fighting, so if a knight stabbed the samurai then
the samurai would get injured and this would affect the samurai while he is fighting (the samurai
would be fighting worse), and possible depending on how bad the wound is, it could kill the

The Effect Of Genetic Diversity On Living Things Are The...
The main cause of genetic diversity in living things are the five processes of evolution. These five
processes genetic drift, gene flow, natural selection, speciation, and mutations all affect allele
frequencies within a population in different ways, thus, creating genetic diversity. Population change
is in direct relation to both genetic drift and gene flow. Genetic drift is defined as variation in the
relative frequency of different genotypes in a small population. This variation is caused by two types
of genetic drift also known as the Bottleneck effect and the Founders effect. A Bottleneck effect is
typically caused by a random event such as hunting or a natural disaster which can significantly
reduce a population. Although a population can gain back their original population size after a
Bottleneck effect, their genes have been permanently affected, resulting in much less genetic variation
than that of a population that was not affected by a Bottleneck effect. Examples of genetic diversity
due to a Bottleneck effect include the lack of genetic variation due to intense hunting in the 1890 s
within the Northern elephant seal population compared to the large Southern elephant seal population.
A Founders effect occurs when individuals from a large population branch out and create a new
colony. Due to the small population, the colony is more likely to have less genetic variation from the
original population. An example of a Founders effect is the presence of Polydactyly

Value Chain analysis evaluates each step business goes through from inception to finality. The goal is
to maximize the value for the total cost. Costco s mission is to provide their members with quality
goods and services at the lowest possible prices. The company s mission, values and strategies suggest
Costco uses a broad enterprise strategy which fits in the societal framework. To ensure employee
motivation, Costco offers them a unique banquet of benefits. This include; paying health benefits for
them, 50% higher wage, employee retention of over 90 percent, and maintaining employees even
during recession periods (Costco, 2010). The Company s strength is its primary value chains which

includes input logistics, operations, and output logistics. Demand generation involves sales,
marketing, and service department which breaks down into sub tiers. Costco s support activities

difficult to pinpoint; one weakness is persistent low operating profit margins. Bigger profits can occur
by not paying employee benefits and with demanding higher returns from their suppliers. The problem

Word Strength Definition
I have chosen the word strength because to me it means you are able to push yourself, or just being
strong. The quality or state of being strong, in particular. This is the meaning of the word strength,
which some people tend to get and mixed up with. Strength could mean a wide range of things for
example from being physically having strength to emotional and mental. Example of strength could be
in a physical way, people going to the gym and bragging that they are strong and can do more than a
lot of other people. Another example could be in an emotional way. Such as people could have dealt
with maybe death, and could be emotionally weak. So to get over that, that person might tell there

Snow Ann Beattie
Snow is a short story in which Ann Beattie, the author, presents an often unheard of view of her lover.
The main character, experiences the heart warming of love towards her lover rather than the desolation
of loneliness after her lover doesn t come back. Later, when the lady learns that her lover is still out
there, she knows that all hope of her lover coming back is still there. The crushing disappointment
kills her that her lover just left her out there all alone for the winter. Published in the earlier where love
was so true and courageous, the oppressive narrated nature of love in Snow may well be a reflection of
their love to each other. Though Beattie relates the women s story, she does not do so in first person.
Beattie reveals the story through a narrator s voice. The narrator is not simply an observer, however.
The narrator shows that the woman, for the most part, is madly in love. (paragraph 1). It is obvious
that the narrator knows more than can be physically observed. Beattie, however, never tells the reader
what really happens between her lover and her. Instead, the reader must look into the women s actions
and words in order to understand what the women feels. The main character is held back by the
feelings she had towards her lover but he didn t feel the same. The lines of her expressions cold settled
in stages, that small curve of light was shaved from the moon night after night, until you were no
longer surprised the sky was black, that

Essay On Soto Syndrome
Sotos syndrome (OMIM 117550), was first described by Juan Sotos (Sotos et al., 1964) in five
patients with prenatal and postnatal overgrowth, characteristic facial appearance, advanced bone age
and developmental delay. The majority of cases are sporadic, but autosomal dominant pedigrees have
been published (Kurotaki et al., 2003).
Sotos syndrome also known as cerebral gigantism, characterized by excessive growth resulting in tall
stature and macrocephaly. These three cardinal features are each present in over 90% of cases with SS
(Tatton Brown and Rahman, 2007). Since the first description by (Sotos et al., 1964), hundreds of
cases have been reported to date, and the estimated incidence is 1/15,000 1/20,0001). The typical
overgrowth pattern of SS starts prenatally, resulting in higher mean birth length and weight.

More than 380 mutations in the NSD1 gene have been identified in people with Sotos syndrome.
However, In the Japanese population, the most common genetic change leading to Sotos syndrome
deletes genetic material from the region of chromosome 5 containing the NSD1 gene. In most other
populations, mutations within the gene itself are more frequent. These mutations include insertions or
deletions of a small amount of DNA and changes in single DNA base pairs that make up the gene.
Most mutations prevent one copy of the NSD1 gene from making any protein or lead to the production
of an abnormally small, nonfunctional version of the protein. Research suggests that a reduced amount
of NSD1 protein disrupts the normal activity of genes involved in growth and development. However,
it remains unclear exactly how a shortage of this protein during development leads to overgrowth,
learning disabilities, and the other signs and symptoms of Sotos syndrome (Faravelli, 2005; Genetics

Carotid Artery Disease Research Paper

Running head: PROBLEM STATEMENT
2
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Problem Statement A cerebrovascular accident, which is commonly known as a stroke, is the leading
cause of disability and the fifth leading cause of death in the United States ( About Stroke, n.d.). Two
fundamental causes of stroke are atrial fibrillation, where the heart flutters rather than contracting in
the manner of a normal heartbeat, and carotid artery disease (Sobieszczyk Beckman, 2006). Carotid
artery disease is the narrowing of the carotid arteries, which are located on either side of the neck and
deliver blood to the brain (Sobieszczyk Beckman, 2006). Blockages consisting of low density
lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol often cause this narrowing (Sobieszczyk Beckman, ... Show more

The two diseases are analogous, as deposits of LDL cholesterol can cause narrowing of blood vessel
walls and decrease blood flow in both types of arteries (Chambless et al., 1997). However, coronary
artery disease affects the coronary arteries arteries that branch off of the aorta and deliver blood to the
heart (Chambless et al., 1997). Nevertheless, coronary artery disease and carotid artery disease share
many common risk factors, including hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and high cholesterol
(Chambless et al., 1997). Antiplatelet drugs are commonly prescribed for those suffering from
coronary artery disease; thus, many patients who undergo a carotid endarterectomy for carotid artery
disease, a procedure that removes material on the inside of an artery in order to correct narrowing, are
on blood thinning medications (Knight, 2003). Two of the most common antiplatelet drugs include
acetylsalicylic acid, which is more commonly known as aspirin, and Clopidogrel (Knight, 2003). Both
of these drugs can be effective in preventing blood clots in those with coronary artery disease, but they
can induce serious complications for those with carotid artery

Magnesium Oxide Lab
Objective/hypothesis
The objective/purpose of this lab is to determine the amount of oxygen needed to react with Mg to
form ionic oxide and find out the correct formula for the compound. The expected outcome of this lab
is that 3Mg + N2=Mg3N2. Oxygen in the air is reacted with magnesium in the crucible. The masses
before and after the oxidation are measured. The calculated masses are then used to find out the
experimental empirical formula of magnesium oxide. A Bunsen burner will be used to heat
magnesium metal. The experiment relates because we are determine the formula for magnesium
oxide.
Procedures
Wash porcelain crucible with soap thoroughly and the rinse off the excess soap as removing as much
as possible. Put the crucible on top of the iron ring. He the crucible for 10 minutes to insure all excess
water is off. Once the crucible has cooled completely off, find the mass. Place a 20 cm long ribbon of
magnesium in the crucible and then weight the both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mass of the crucible and Mg sample came out to be 24.11g. We found the mass of the Mg to be
.25g, after we subtracted the mass of the crucible and mg by the mass of the crucible after the first
heating, (24.11g 23.86g). We determined the moles of Mg by dividing the mass of the Mg by 24.3,
(.25g/24.3). We found that moles of Mg to be .0102 mol. We found the mass of oxygen by subtracting
the mass of the crucible after the final heating by the mass of the crucible and Mg together, (24.25
24.11g). We found the mass of oxygen to be .14g. we determined the moles of oxygen by taking the
mass of oxygen and dividing it by 16.00, (.14g/16.00). The moles of oxygen came out to be .00875
Mol. We determined the ratio of moles of mg to moles of oxygen by dividing .0102 Mol by moles of
oxygen, (.0102Mol/.00875Mol). The mole ratio came out to be 1.16575 Mol. The formula came out to
be MgO, because 1.16 is rounded to 1 and 1 is not written in the

Essay About My Dream
Let me first start off by asking you a question, do you have a dream you are satisfied with? Do you
think your dream is good enough to make/keep you happy for the rest of your life in the future? Now
remember those questions and keep your answer in mind as you read this. At the very end, did your
answer change or stay the same? We shall see.
We all have dreams whether it s the one you get while sleeping, daydreaming in class, or the dream
you are working towards for. The main questions many ask today is what is my dream (like a future
career) or how will I make my dream come true? These are the questions I find asking myself from a
day to day basis. Another one and the most important question, in my opinion, would probably be will

Passion gives you a goal or a dream to chase after too. Another quote I hear pretty often is Have
Outstanding Passion Every Day! CollegeTrack. We strive with outstanding passion in whatever we do,
whether is completing a homework assignment, doing a sport, club activities, and just in life in
general. Having this passion gives you something to look forward to every day instead of mindlessly
getting up to go to school or work to do the same generic tasks everyday. Everyday is a new day,
which means there are new challenges, by having a passion it gives you the motivation, the excitement
to conquer new challenges. Think of it as Candy Crush, you worked on a single level for days and you
finally passed that level, the sense of accomplishment encourages you to pass the next level and so
forth. The kind of people with the most amount of passion are CEO and entrepreneurs because they
get to enjoy their creations in their business every day, solve a new problem in their business or create
another branch of their franchise. For example, Bart Kwan and Joe Jo of JustKiddingFilms, who are
very passionate about film and comedy, combined their two interests and created a YouTube franchise
where they dedicate themselves to making comedic videos. Another example would be myself. I am
very passionate about happiness, wary of others feelings, tend to know when one is happy or sad, and
know how to properly comfort someone. I dedicate my free time to making sure the people around me

Does the End Justify the Means
Lesley Rawlins The end justifies the means The end justifies the means is an expression that is often
used in society to validate or excuse distasteful and objectionable actions undertaken by its people. In
effect, the phrase is a justification for dispensing with all morality and principle in the passage towards
a successful conclusion. The Greek writer Sophocles wrote in Electra 409 BC the end excuses any
evil. This was a thought later considered, by the Roman poet Ovid, the result justifies the deed (c. 10
B.C.). In simpler terms, anything is reasonable if it leads to a significant and meaningful outcome. The
term has been used to explain actions and behaviours ranging from cheating to pass an exam, stealing

Zimbardo s prison experiment at Stanford University was a study on what the psychological effects of
becoming a prisoner or prison guard was on the individual. Zimbardo wanted to investigate whether
the cruelty reported among guards in American prisons was due to the aggressive personalities of the
guards or the prison environment itself. Twenty four well adjusted undergraduates were selected out of
over 75 to play the roles of both guards and prisoners. The guards were permitted to devise most of
the rules. A third of the guards exhibited genuine sadistic tendencies, and subjected the prisoners to
torture. After the initial rebellion most of the prisoners stopped opposing the guards losing their
personal identity and self belief. Zimbardo s research demonstrated that people can behave
uncharacteristically when placed, in new social or physical roles and adopt the attitude and behaviour
of their perceived roles, in some cases particularly zealously. The argument that anything is reasonable
if it leads to a significant and meaningful outcome ignores the moral and ethical questioning of the
method and the use of this principle to countenance experimentation is debatable All the studies
outlined, involved a degree of deception and can be criticized for the lack of informed consent.

Student Athletes Analysis
Milito, J. (2015). Student Athletes and Academics Jason M Documentary. Retrieved from

The video is all about the life of student athletes as a student and as an athlete and how they balance it.
The documentary includes experts who guide the student athletes in their career and the student
athletes who explained for themselves. It shows the role of education in student athletes life and how
important it is for their future career. The role of being an athlete to represent their school during
seasonal games and the pressure from the people around them can be seen in this documentary.

From the beginning of the video, the coach of the team announced that one of his players cannot
attend the game for some reasons, and this reason was the player has a biology test to be taken that
day. Basically, that is what a student athlete is. People from the video believed that there was a reason
why they are called student athletes and why student comes first before athlete. They believe that still,
being a student is your first priority since they are still studying for college. But the real deal is, these
student athletes actually have more chance in admission for college than of those regular students. A
lot of universities search for student athletes to represent their school. And base from the tests that the
regular students got for an entrance test and the student athletes, still, there is more possibility that a
student athlete can get in and the regular student will not no matter he or she got a higher grade. Yes,
there is a lot more chance for them to get in but a woman in the video said that they cheated. She
admitted that these student athletes cannot even produce a paragraph or even a simple sentence. This
is one of the effects of being an athlete. They prioritize it than studying especially during seasonal
games.

The Demand For Fossil Fuels
With Earth s population continuing to grow, the demand for fossil fuels is increasing every day. In
2014, the United States alone consumed over 19 million barrels of oil a day. Not only is running out of
these vital fuels a concern, but our ferocious appetite for fossil fuels is heating our planet at an
alarming rate. While wind and solar power have been doing their part to cut back on the use of fossil
fuels, it may be biology that allows us to finally cut the cord to fossil fuels. Recent studies into using
biology as a renewable fuel have shown that an H2 producing bacteria called, Rhodopseudomonas
palustris, and biodiesel producing algae may be the keys. R. palustris is unique in that it consumes
electrons from iron and other metallic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
palustris produces H2 and uses and enzyme called nitrogenase to catalyze the reaction. However, most
bacteria actually live in nitrogen deprived environments. The bacteria in those nitrogen deficient
environments stop growing, while producing more H2 than the bacteria who have access nitrogen.
The increased H2 production is due to a metabolic process called the tricarboxylic acid cycle. This
cycle replaces the gyloxylate cycle that is used by R. palustris in nitrogen rich environments. In
addition, the bacteria use the electrons they collected via EET to generate ATP in another process
called cyclic photophosphorylation. When nitrogen is not available as a catalyst for H2 production, R.
palustris can use electrons ingested from sources like iron to produce H2. The problem with using
these electrons is that the process of H2 production will be in constant competition with the
biosynthetic process of cyclic photophosphorylation, which also requires electrons to function
(Mckinlay et al. 2013). The energy created from algae for biofuels is slightly less complicated than
that of its bacterial cousin. Algae composition, by weight, is half lipid oil. Scientists have been
studying this oil for decades to convert it into algae biodiesel this biodiesel burns cleaner and more
efficiently than any petroleum based fuel (Stefani Newman How Algae Biodiesel Works 2008). The
algae used in the production of diesel are grown in large open or closed ponds, the most popular and

Stare Decisis Case Study
In this case study, I will explore the concept of stare decisis and wherether it is in exorable command.
I will be explaining what the court means when it say that stare decisis is not an inexorable command .
Also what it would mean for the American system of criminal justice, if stare decisis actually was
inexorable command . Stare Decisis is not an Inexorable Command
It s referring to precedents. Precedents are previous decisions of the court that need to be followed by
courts in the same or lower in the hierarchy. The court must give consideration but there is no rule on
how it should apply it to the facts of the case at hand.
Basically, under the doctrine of stare decisis, the decision of a higher court within the same provincial

Sweden was slightly higher as well at 9.6%. However, both countries were less than the United States
at 16.9%, Netherlands at 11.8% and France at 11.6%. ( OECD Health Statistics, 2014) The main
source of funding in all OECD countries is the public sector, except for the United States and Chile.
The most recent studies determined that in Sweden 81% of health spending is funded by the public,
which is above the OECD average of 72%. Canada s public funding is responsible for 70% of health
spending. ( OECD Health Statistics, 2014) Main Contributing Factors to Healthcare Spending For the
majority of OECD countries, the three main areas that contribute to the growth of healthcare
expenditures include; hospitals, physicians and pharmaceuticals. Population and an aging community
are also significant factors. (Ke et al., 2011) In the recent years, Canada s growth rate for healthcare
spending has slowed to approximately 1% in real terms during 2011 and 1.5% during 2012. The
decrease in spending is driven mainly by the slowdown in hospital spending, noted by a hospital
spending rate PPP per capita at $1,310 in 2012. ( OECD Health Statistics, 2014) Expired patents for
high volume and high cost brand name drugs and a decrease in generic drug costs in many provinces
lessened spending in the pharmaceutical category. ( National Health Expenditure, 2014) In 2012 the
percentage of expenditure spent on pharmaceuticals was 18%. Since

The Consequences Of Underage Drinking
Consequences of Underage Drinking While alcohol may not be the most dangerous of drugs, it is
harmful nonetheless. There have been many research studies done by the National Institute of Alcohol
Abuse and Alcoholism that prove this to be true. Binge drinking is drinking with the purpose of
getting drunk, and is the most common form of alcohol consumption while it is also the most
dangerous. There have been numerous researches by other organizations and scientists that have
demonstrated just how dangerous underage drinking can be. These facts cannot be denied and further
the belief that underage drinking is very serious and dangerous. Not only does a person run the risk of
being arrested for illegal activity, a person can also be harmed. The true problem in this situation is
that many people do not realize just how dangerous underage drinking can be. A night simply meant
for laughs and dancing with friends can lead to much more. There may not be any immediate
consequences. There may not even be consequences with the law. However, the danger is very real.
Underage drinking is very common in the United States. Alcohol is the most commonly used and
abused drug in the United States, even more so than illicit drugs (Marijuana, Cocaine, etc...) and
tobacco. In 2012 the National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported that 24% of youth aged 12 to
20 years drink alcohol and 15% reported binge drinking. In 2013, the Monitoring the Future Survey
reported that 28% of 8th graders and 68%

How To Build Stone Castle
Which types of castle was the most efficient and effective for Normans to build when they were trying
to keep control of England?
Section A motte and bailey castles
There were many advantages in building motte and Bailey castles. Firstly they were easy and quick to
build, unlike stone castles which could take up to 20 years to build. This was useful because this
meant that the Normans could build a castle quickly and could therefore establish enough protection,
to build stone castles. Secondly Motte and Bailey castles were constructed out of wood and this was
easy to acquire, unlike stone which had to be transported all the way from France. This was useful
because it meant that a Motte and Bailey castle was easy to build and would hardly ... Show more

This was a problem because it would take a long time for the stone to arrive. Secondly, the castle
would take up to twenty years to build. This was a problem because the Normans have to build their
castles quickly, in order to defend Britain and survive. Thirdly, trying to build a stone castle would
cost a lot of money. This was a problem because money is very precious and cannot be returned when
spent.
Section C evidence to support your statements.
A good example of a stone castle to show this is Corfe Castle.
I have chosen this because it clearly shows the main features of a stone castle. It is also the biggest
castle, that the Normans have ever built. This supports my view that stone castles last long and that
they do not have to be replaced so often, with new parts.
Section D Conclusion
Overall I think the best type of castle for the Normans to have built is a stone castle.
This is because they are strong, not flammable and last very long. It is better than the other type
because that one always had to be replaced, it was weak, not strong, flammable and easy to penetrate.
Therefore stone castles are the best, even if they do take around twenty years to

Analysis Of Before The Law By Jennifer Gonnerman
In Before The Law , an article written by Jennifer Gonnerman published in The New Yorker, the
dispiriting true story of a teen from the Bronx is used as a precedent to highlight the glaring problems
with New York City s criminal justice system. In May of 2010, sixteen year old Kalief Browder and
his friends were arrested on robbery charges after returning home from a party in the Bronx. The
ensuing events led him in and out of holding cells, granted him a bail of three thousand dollars (which
his family was unable to afford), and eventually led to him being transferred to the infamous Rikers
Island; Where, despite never being convicted of any crime (let alone receiving a fair trial), he was
imprisoned for nearly four years. Gonnerman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this includes Gonnerman describing Browder s realization that he was not going to be
released after his wrongful arrest, or detailing his feeling of panic as he was transported to Rikers on a
prison bus.
Gonnerman appeals to the logic of the reader by following Browder s anecdotes with supportive
statistics and investigative findings from reputable sources. She uses the citation of evidence to give
weight and help expand on the context of Browder s experiences. This includes the excerpts of
statistical information from studies, such as in 2011 seventy four percent of felony cases in the Bronx
were older than six months , which reinforces Browder s personal experience with the Bronx court
system and also clearly indicates that Browder s circumstance is not an uncommon one. This also
includes the citation of the court index card s text, reading the list of the preposterous amount of
delays requested by the prosecutor, which provides tangible and explicit evidence to the reader of the
dysfunctionality of the Bronx s court system, and also helps the reader empathize with Browder s
frustration.
Perhaps the most powerful of these appeals to logic would be the citation of the Sixth Amendment of

  • 5. Reflective Essay On Civil Rights During our time in class, we discussed several themes pertaining to the rights and freedoms of the LGBTQ community, and spoke at length about some of the landmark cases that helped to give the community the liberties that they enjoy today. In order to better understand the struggle that the community had to endure in order to achieve these rights, we will review several different cases and tie them to things we learned in class, analyzing the roles that they played in achieving progress in various fields that were once dangers for members of this group. By understanding some of the landmark legal actions that were made in the quest for equal rights, perhaps then we can more fully understand the extent of the obstacles that they have overcome. And not all of these cases go in their favor, either, showing that even at the highest echelons of the American legal system, there have been and still continue to be significant prejudices which must be faced day in and day out. The most important step forward in the timeline of LGBTQ rights was the acceptance that homosexual acts were, in fact, not crimes, and that homosexuals could live in the open without fear of repercussion from the law. In class, we discussed the case of Bowers v. Hardwick, which upheld the constitutionality of sodomy laws and effectively criminalized homosexual relations until the 2003 case of Lawrence v. Texas, which reversed the decision. Just two years after the decision in Lawrence v Texas came down, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How Reiki Is Considered As A Form Of Healing Essay This assignment evaluates the topic of reiki, which is considered as a form of healing. To begin, it provides a definition and highlights reiki s application in mainstream medicine. This forms scientific assumptions of the use of the scientific method. This highlights credibility, methodology and reliability as a precursor of application to public health. As a result, it firstly demonstrates credibility through the process of gathering scientific facts from reliable sources. Journals are found using the British Psychological Society (BPS) and PsycINFO. This subsequently provides empirical research for critical review. Secondly, it explores methodology from a selection of these journals. It includes the necessity of operational definitions, value and measurement, and construct validity. Finally, it therefore demonstrates the reliability of results as scientific data, to infer robust conclusions. This will provide the basis of the argument to evaluate if reiki is science or pseudoscience. Reiki Application Firstly, reiki is described as an ancient Japanese form of therapeutic healing (Baldwin, Rand Schwartz, 2013; Baldwin, Wagers Schwartz, 2008; Cuneo et al., 2011; Diaz Rodriguez et al., 2011; Richeson, Spross, Lutz Peng, 2010; Shore, 2004). Its efficacy claims to improve human welfare a shared perspective of many science applications (Anderson, 1998). Quentin, who is convinced he is in love with the wild and adventurous Margo, goes on a journey to find her when she ran away. Through this journey, he finds a new Margo, the real Margo. Instead of imagining the Margo of his dreams, who is perfect and daring, he sees a different side, like looking through a fun house mirror. Ben even pays attention to how Margo is and how she acts. He recognizes how adventurous and awesome she is without even really knowing her. He is using stories to assume the way is or the way she acts, even to the extent of predicting her future. At first, Quentin has trouble seeing Margo past her outer beauty and can t think of her as just a normal person. Quentin and Margo go up to the top of the SunTrust building. When looking at the city of Orlando from that building, Quentin says that it is beautiful. He suggests this because you cannot see the rust or the weeds. You can see it the way it was imagined to be. Margo then says, Everything is uglier close up (Green 57) and then Quentin replies, Not you (Green 57). Quentin doesn t really understand who Margo is. Quentin isn t thinking about how the closer you get, the more flaws are shown. He is just thinking about external beauty. Margo is about to get revenge on her boyfriend for cheating with her best friend. Quentin wonders why he would cheat and Margo thinks it is because her friend is more attractive than her. • 10. Economic, Social, and Political Problems in the Post-Civil... Americans suffered many economic, social, and political problems in the post Civil War era. I have identified one of each of these types of problems that I believe were among the most important during the period of 1865 1900. The economic issue that I believe had one of the biggest impacts on Americans at the time is the Great Railroad Strike of 1877. The social issue that I feel greatly affected America after the Civil War is Chinese immigration. One of the biggest political issues, to me, is the Populist Party. I feel that the Great Railroad Strike of 1887 was a major issue because it made Americans realize just how deeply Americans were invested in the railroads. In Pittsburgh, it was estimated that property damage reached over three million dollars, with Chicago, Baltimore and other cities facing losses of a similar magnitude. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Railroad_Strike) I believe that Chinese immigration during the period after the Civil War was a very big issue because it showed just how unwilling ordinary, white citizens were to let another inferior race into the country. Chinese immigrants had been arriving in large quantities starting during the mid 19th century. Most of worked as laborers, usually on the transcontinental railroad (such as the Central Pacific Railroad) and in the mines. Audre Lorde s Essay On Intersectionality Audre Lorde s essay on intersectionality highlights the point that there is not a single issue fight because we do not live day to day with our single issue lives (Lorde, pg 654). Acknowledging that we are beneath the dominant class is important to reconstruct the structural power. Intersectionality requires power that fortifies how our differences come together on both an individual level an a collective foundation. There are many issues we tend not to even look at because the women that it affects usually have always been overlooked for the dominant groups oppressed world (Lorde, pg 656). • 12. Essay On Knights Vs Samurai Knights vs Samurai essay From researching about knights and samurai, I believe that in a battle between a knight and samurai, the knight would have a greater chance in winning. This is because knights focused more on fighting techniques and how to improve them, rather than focusing on spiritual beliefs and traditions as well, which is what the samurai did. The knights also had very strong and good armour which helped a lot in battles, while the samurai s armour changed a lot but wasn t ever as effective as the knight s armour. The knight s weapons were also more advanced and better then the samurai weapons. My second reason is that the knights had very strong and effective armour, whereas the samurai s armour was always changing and was never as good as the knight s armour, as samurai depended more on their fighting skills instead of the armour. The samurai armour was made up of several sections. The main body is called a do or cuirass, and is made from plates or lamellae (small oblong shaped pieces of steel linked by strips of leather and covered with layers of lacquer). The helmet has a crest and a hair pommel. There is also a face mask, which would have been decorated with ugly features intended to scare the enemy. Extra protection is provided by a coverage of the neck (made of jointed metal) and shoulder guards (made from small plates laced together, with silk allowing movement). Thigh and calf guards are made from a combination of chain mail and plates. Underneath the samurai s armour, the samurai would wear a one piece baggy garment with a special kimono (the kimono looks a bit like a dressing gown). This did mean that the samurai would be more likely to get injured, as the armour would only offer very little protection. Samurai armour was designed to help the Samurai move comfortably and efficiently when fighting, so if a knight stabbed the samurai then the samurai would get injured and this would affect the samurai while he is fighting (the samurai would be fighting worse), and possible depending on how bad the wound is, it could kill the ... • 13. The Effect Of Genetic Diversity On Living Things Are The... The main cause of genetic diversity in living things are the five processes of evolution. These five processes genetic drift, gene flow, natural selection, speciation, and mutations all affect allele frequencies within a population in different ways, thus, creating genetic diversity. Population change is in direct relation to both genetic drift and gene flow. Genetic drift is defined as variation in the relative frequency of different genotypes in a small population. This variation is caused by two types of genetic drift also known as the Bottleneck effect and the Founders effect. A Bottleneck effect is typically caused by a random event such as hunting or a natural disaster which can significantly reduce a population. Although a population can gain back their original population size after a Bottleneck effect, their genes have been permanently affected, resulting in much less genetic variation than that of a population that was not affected by a Bottleneck effect. Examples of genetic diversity due to a Bottleneck effect include the lack of genetic variation due to intense hunting in the 1890 s within the Northern elephant seal population compared to the large Southern elephant seal population. A Founders effect occurs when individuals from a large population branch out and create a new colony. Due to the small population, the colony is more likely to have less genetic variation from the original population. An example of a Founders effect is the presence of Polydactyly ... • 18. Snow Ann Beattie Snow is a short story in which Ann Beattie, the author, presents an often unheard of view of her lover. The main character, experiences the heart warming of love towards her lover rather than the desolation of loneliness after her lover doesn t come back. Later, when the lady learns that her lover is still out there, she knows that all hope of her lover coming back is still there. The crushing disappointment kills her that her lover just left her out there all alone for the winter. Published in the earlier where love was so true and courageous, the oppressive narrated nature of love in Snow may well be a reflection of their love to each other. Though Beattie relates the women s story, she does not do so in first person. Beattie reveals the story through a narrator s voice. The narrator is not simply an observer, however. The narrator shows that the woman, for the most part, is madly in love. (paragraph 1). It is obvious that the narrator knows more than can be physically observed. Beattie, however, never tells the reader what really happens between her lover and her. Instead, the reader must look into the women s actions and words in order to understand what the women feels. The main character is held back by the feelings she had towards her lover but he didn t feel the same. In most other populations, mutations within the gene itself are more frequent. These mutations include insertions or deletions of a small amount of DNA and changes in single DNA base pairs that make up the gene. Most mutations prevent one copy of the NSD1 gene from making any protein or lead to the production of an abnormally small, nonfunctional version of the protein. Research suggests that a reduced amount of NSD1 protein disrupts the normal activity of genes involved in growth and development. Two fundamental causes of stroke are atrial fibrillation, where the heart flutters rather than contracting in the manner of a normal heartbeat, and carotid artery disease (Sobieszczyk Beckman, 2006). Carotid artery disease is the narrowing of the carotid arteries, which are located on either side of the neck and deliver blood to the brain (Sobieszczyk Beckman, 2006). The two diseases are analogous, as deposits of LDL cholesterol can cause narrowing of blood vessel walls and decrease blood flow in both types of arteries (Chambless et al., 1997). However, coronary artery disease affects the coronary arteries arteries that branch off of the aorta and deliver blood to the heart (Chambless et al., 1997). Nevertheless, coronary artery disease and carotid artery disease share many common risk factors, including hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and high cholesterol (Chambless et al., 1997). Antiplatelet drugs are commonly prescribed for those suffering from coronary artery disease; thus, many patients who undergo a carotid endarterectomy for carotid artery disease, a procedure that removes material on the inside of an artery in order to correct narrowing, are on blood thinning medications (Knight, 2003). Two of the most common antiplatelet drugs include acetylsalicylic acid, which is more commonly known as aspirin, and Clopidogrel (Knight, 2003). The bacteria in those nitrogen deficient environments stop growing, while producing more H2 than the bacteria who have access nitrogen. The increased H2 production is due to a metabolic process called the tricarboxylic acid cycle. This cycle replaces the gyloxylate cycle that is used by R. palustris in nitrogen rich environments. In addition, the bacteria use the electrons they collected via EET to generate ATP in another process called cyclic photophosphorylation. When nitrogen is not available as a catalyst for H2 production, R. palustris can use electrons ingested from sources like iron to produce H2. The problem with using these electrons is that the process of H2 production will be in constant competition with the biosynthetic process of cyclic photophosphorylation, which also requires electrons to function (Mckinlay et al. 2013). There have been many research studies done by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism that prove this to be true. Binge drinking is drinking with the purpose of getting drunk, and is the most common form of alcohol consumption while it is also the most dangerous. There have been numerous researches by other organizations and scientists that have demonstrated just how dangerous underage drinking can be. These facts cannot be denied and further the belief that underage drinking is very serious and dangerous. Not only does a person run the risk of being arrested for illegal activity, a person can also be harmed. The true problem in this situation is that many people do not realize just how dangerous underage drinking can be. A night simply meant for laughs and dancing with friends can lead to much more. There may not be any immediate consequences. There may not even be consequences with the law. However, the danger is very real. Underage drinking is very common in the United States. In 2012 the National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported that 24% of youth aged 12 to 20 years drink alcohol and 15% reported binge drinking. • 32. How To Build Stone Castle Which types of castle was the most efficient and effective for Normans to build when they were trying to keep control of England? Section A motte and bailey castles There were many advantages in building motte and Bailey castles. Firstly they were easy and quick to build, unlike stone castles which could take up to 20 years to build. This was useful because this meant that the Normans could build a castle quickly and could therefore establish enough protection, to build stone castles. Secondly Motte and Bailey castles were constructed out of wood and this was easy to acquire, unlike stone which had to be transported all the way from France. This was useful because it meant that a Motte and Bailey castle was easy to build and would hardly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was a problem because it would take a long time for the stone to arrive. Secondly, the castle would take up to twenty years to build. This was a problem because the Normans have to build their castles quickly, in order to defend Britain and survive. Thirdly, trying to build a stone castle would cost a lot of money. This was a problem because money is very precious and cannot be returned when spent. Section C evidence to support your statements. A good example of a stone castle to show this is Corfe Castle. I have chosen this because it clearly shows the main features of a stone castle. It is also the biggest castle, that the Normans have ever built. This supports my view that stone castles last long and that they do not have to be replaced so often, with new parts. Section D Conclusion Overall I think the best type of castle for the Normans to have built is a stone castle. This is because they are strong, not flammable and last very long. It is better than the other type because that one always had to be replaced, it was weak, not strong, flammable and easy to penetrate. Therefore stone castles are the best, even if they do take around twenty years to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Analysis Of Before The Law By Jennifer Gonnerman In Before The Law , an article written by Jennifer Gonnerman published in The New Yorker, the dispiriting true story of a teen from the Bronx is used as a precedent to highlight the glaring problems with New York City s criminal justice system. In May of 2010, sixteen year old Kalief Browder and his friends were arrested on robbery charges after returning home from a party in the Bronx. The ensuing events led him in and out of holding cells, granted him a bail of three thousand dollars (which his family was unable to afford), and eventually led to him being transferred to the infamous Rikers Island; Where, despite never being convicted of any crime (let alone receiving a fair trial), he was imprisoned for nearly four years. Gonnerman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this includes Gonnerman describing Browder s realization that he was not going to be released after his wrongful arrest, or detailing his feeling of panic as he was transported to Rikers on a prison bus. Gonnerman appeals to the logic of the reader by following Browder s anecdotes with supportive statistics and investigative findings from reputable sources. She uses the citation of evidence to give weight and help expand on the context of Browder s experiences. This includes the excerpts of statistical information from studies, such as in 2011 seventy four percent of felony cases in the Bronx were older than six months , which reinforces Browder s personal experience with the Bronx court system and also clearly indicates that Browder s circumstance is not an uncommon one. This also includes the citation of the court index card s text, reading the list of the preposterous amount of delays requested by the prosecutor, which provides tangible and explicit evidence to the reader of the dysfunctionality of the Bronx s court system, and also helps the reader empathize with Browder s frustration. Perhaps the most powerful of these appeals to logic would be the citation of the Sixth Amendment of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are a large number of suppliers who face volatilities in demand and supply, not good distribution, large customs and excise duties, and hence less margins. This means that bargaining power for suppliers is less and hence the buyers can pick the supplier which gives them the lowest price. With the proliferation of companies setting up the manufacturing plants in India, and the GOI also assisting their ventures, the bargaining power of suppliers is definitely low to medium. Product differentiation is becoming more and more difficult in the electronics industry as the room for imitability is also huge with the coming of Chinese suppliers.
