As a son of a sharecropper and grandson of a slave, Jesse...
As a son of a sharecropper and grandson of a slave, Jesse Owens created History in 1936 when he
achieved what no athlete had done before: four Olympic Gold Medals. (jesseowens.com). During this
era, the United States had limited civil rights and was approaching a World War with Hitler rising into
power in Germany. Although Owens was victorious on the track, because of the color of his skin, He
was looked down upon and unrecognized by even his own country. Through the excessive racism, one
may ask how Owens moved forward and dealt with such negativity in a situation that should have
been celebrated.
Henry and Emma Alexander Owens gave birth to James Cleveland Owens on September 12, 1913 in
Alabama (www.jesseowens.com). At the age of nine, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite such success, Owens did not have the privilege to the luxuries of his fellow white teammates.
Owens had to stay in black only hotels and restaurants. And although he deserved it, he was not
offered any scholarships because he was Black and therefore was forced to work part time in order to
pay for his education.
On May 25th, 1935 Jesse Owens set three world records in a span of forty five minutes at the Big Ten
Championships in Ann Arbor(www.jesseowens.com). Despite his sore back that day, he achieved a 9.4
second victory in the 100 meter dash, long jumped 26 ft. 8 ¼ inches, sprinted at 20.3 seconds on the
220 meter sprint, and succeeded in the 220 yard low hurdles at 22.6 seconds. Owens s achievement
stands as perhaps the best single day accomplishment of any track and field athlete history. Because of
such great success, Owens entered the 1936 Olympics that were to be held in Berlin, Germany.
Hitler was rising into power in Germany and it is said that he tried to use the Olympics in order to
show the world a resurgent Germany (www.jesse owens.org). Nazi propaganda promoted concepts of
Aryan racial superiority and depicted Africans as inferior. Hitler wanted the entire world to believe
that the Aryan people were a dominant race. Owens had different plans, as he achieved four victories
during the Track and field Olympics. On August 3rd Owens won the 100 meter dash at 10.35 seconds

Essay on How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization
Roles of the Catholic Church in Western civilization has been scrambled with the times past and
development of Western society. Regardless of the fact that the West is no longer entirely Catholic, the
Catholic tradition is still strong in Western countries. The church has been a very important foundation
of public facilities like schooling, Western art, culture and philosophy; and influential player in
religion. In many ways it has wanted to have an impact on Western approaches to pros and cons in
numerous areas. It has over many periods of time, spread the teachings of Jesus within the Western
World and remains a foundation of continuousness connecting recent Western culture to old Western
culture.
During the Great Jubilee year, John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Pope s request for forgiveness applied to the Church understood in this second sense. That
idealistic apology is a faultless structure for the author s fine explanation of the several ways in which
the Catholic belief formed what we call Western Civilization. The author establishes that the West is

Catholics. In the present day, there are increasing signs that the Europe defined by the author which
established out of brutal communities mainly by English and Irish monks, was continued by
Benedictine religious foundation in the early millennium, succeeded into what we know as
Christendom in the beginning of the second millennium, and move into a gradual 500 year succession

headed for elimination due to demographic inflexibility, Islamic immigration, and a lot of apostasy
from Christ and his Church. In the possibility, of the Church s role in the coming generations will be
to improve this culture outside of Europe, most importantly in Africa and Asia, the site of current rapid

The author states, In our media and standard culture, little is forbidden when it comes to imitating the

My First Year Medical Student At St. Marthers
I briskly roamed the wards, 7:57am on a Tuesday morning, doing post operation checks on the
patients on level five. I was a fourth year medical student at St. Marthers. Today I was assisting my
first basic craniotomy, the partial removing of a skull due to a brain tumour, with my mentor, Blake
Anderson. It was a dreary day, rain specks decorating the windows, the sound of wind whirling like a
vast engine that could rend the soil. I recalled that Blake had always said that the first 24 hours after
any surgery were critical, he said you go into surgery to be fixed, and during the post operation checks
is when you find out if you were successful, or if there are any complications with the healing process.
All patients were clear. Sometime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doctors like to think they knows everything, but in the emergency room, you have to work fast, and it
s those drastic measures that inspire me to be a surgeon. My pager vibrated in my pocket, from Blake,
he said updated scans required immediate attention. It wasn t scheduled for another 4 hours. My
stomach was sinking, I wasn t sure if it were nerves, or intuition. His scans were fine last night. I
couldn t help but wonder what could have gone so wrong in such a short period of time. I could hear
it, I could hear the increased intensity of the machines as his blood pressure dropped. I could see the
patient bleeding out on the table. I could feel my head being cut open, as If I were under the knife. My
thoughts were becoming irrational, I almost always imagined the worst. I was a persistent person, I
bear a deeper malice, live to earn, thrive, and as persistent I was, I still managed to convince myself of
the worst.
I greeted Blake and the surgery team as they were scrubbing in, I could see the Pre anaesthesia nurse
hooking up the patient, Jenna to fluids, and I could feel death creeping, like an obedient monster
purring at its toil. I felt my stomach rise to my throat, yet I felt it drop to the floor. Blake looked at me,
cautiously, and he assured me everything would be okay. I watched the creases around his eyes as he
smiled, convincing myself he was right.
The surgical team was situated around the unconscious Jenna. Blake

The League Of The Iroquois Analysis
In Matthew Dennis article, The League of the Iroquois, he focusses a lot of his attention on drawing
comparisons between the Iroquois and the ancient civilization of Rome. Dennis even goes on to quote
Dewitt Clinton in his address to the New York Historical Society in 1811 in which he refers to the
Iroquois as the Romans of the western world. After personally studying the Iroquois nation over the
course of this semester, I am surprised that I had not already made this stark comparison. Indeed,
while looking at the two groups side by side, it is hard to not see how they could metaphorically be
distant cousins of one another, separated by a few hundred years and an ocean. To clearly associate the
two groups together, one could compare the

Benefit Of Space Exploration
America has reaped the benefits of space exploration for sixty years, despite the open knowledge of its
effects on those who enter radiation and low gravity environments. A low gravity environment is a
space in which gravity, an attracting force between two masses, is lowered in a way that causes a
feeling of weightlessness (Newman, Phil. What Is Gravity? ). Lowered gravity can cause gene
modification and alter behavior (Shikawa, Chihiro, et al. Effects of Gravity Changes on Gene
Expression of BDNF and Serotonin Receptors in the Mouse Brain. ). It can also induce osteoporosis,
an incurable disease increasing the susceptibility of bones to fracture ( Osteoporosis. ), causing
astronauts to lose 1 2% of bone mass per month in space (Bones, Space. Space Bones. . Radiation
(from space) is a type of ionizing radiation that releases energy when it occurs. When that energy is
released, it can be absorbed by living tissue, which can cause irreparable DNA damage (Cucinotta,
Francis A. Space Radiation Risks for Astronauts on Multiple International Space Station Missions. ).
Some believe that the benefits of space exploration are great enough to overlook the decreasing health
of astronauts who have been affected by space travel. I believe that the knowledge of space from space
exploration is not beneficial enough to cause astronauts harm and long term health problems when the
same work could be done by artificial intelligence.

A Literary And Historical Standpoint
Although it is practical from a literary and historical standpoint, object driven analyses of Shakespeare
s First Folio fail to account for, as Brown says, the story of the object asserting itself as a thing. By
treating the First Folio as only a book meant to be read for information these analyses let it stagnate in
a subject object binary which leads us to falsely believe that the subject creates knowledge from the
object. Or as Brown says, we are stuck viewing the object as a code by which our interpretive
attention makes them meaningful (Brown 4). This line of thinking is problematic because the object
then lacks agency. When the object transitions to a thing, the binary no longer applies and we can see
that it has knowledge with or without a subject involved. Additionally, this shift out of the binary
allows for the thing to become its own subject. If, as Baudrillard believes it is the subject that totalizes
the world (qtd in Brown) then this implies that the thing is not merely passively impacted by the world
but actively impacts the world with its presence.
However, only viewing the First Folio as a thing in opposition to an object also limits our study of it.
Instead, I propose that we should examine the story of an object becoming a thing. Before I further my
argument I want to take a moment to fully examine the difference between an object and a thing and
why current scholarship has failed to acknowledge the importance of the First Folio becoming a thing.

Of The Vietnam War Burdens In Tim O Brien s The Things...
Forty two years after the Fall of Saigon, the Vietnam War remains an affliction for Vietnam War
Veterans and their families. Millions of our youth were forced to leave their home and carry
inconceivable burdens. Thus, as a Vietnam War Veteran, Tim O Brien can depict thoroughly our
Veterans burdens in The Things They Carried . His story brings us to First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross
and his platoon in war torn Vietnam. Cross is the commanding officer; however, he does not
concentrate on the war but on his unrequited love. As a result, a Viet Cong kills one of his
subordinates, Ted Lavender. His death traumatizes the platoon, especially its commander.
Furthermore, the narrator also depicts the burden of not only their equipment but also their
psychological distress. In response to O Brien s short story, Steven Kaplan writes a criticism The
undying uncertainty of the narrator in Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried. . In his criticism,
Kaplan focuses on the uncertainty of the war. He argues that O Brien s ultimate purpose is to display
the undying uncertainty of the Vietnam War (10). Despite his concrete and logical argument, he fails
to address the significance of the soldiers physical and psychological burdens, which emphasizes the
story s theme; therefore, his argument does not delineate the story entirely. Even though he does not
describe the full theme, he uncloaks the general mood of the story. According to Kaplan, the only
certain thing during the Vietnam War was

Riordan has implemented the use of an electronic information system; the ability to communicate

Riordan Manufacturing also uses measures to determine the efficacy of their supply chain. Those
measures come in the form of mathematical equations. The following are the formulas to indicate

shipping costs by ship 2. Shipping Cost Savings = inventory carrying cost = item value X 0.30 X 6

The Age of Enlightenment is one of the turning points in the human history, which affected the

in the late XVII century up to the end of XVIII century. Main purpose of the Enlightenment time s
intellectuals was to affect and transform the society in which they lived, by challenging traditions by

we decide to handle the conflict at hand will determine whether we strengthen the relationship or

Noneconomic Damages Reform Essay
Noneconomic Damages Reform There has been over three decades of debate over a reform that
affects everything from insurance and health care premiums to the prices of goods and services. The
Tort law gives civilians the right to put liability on a company and sue for a multitude of different
things if something goes wrong. A main issue of the tort reform is noneconomic damages.
Noneconomic damages are awards granted for pain and suffering. A solution to this ongoing problem
is to set a cap, or ceiling, on the amount of compensation one can receive for his or her pain and
suffering. An issue with setting caps is that they are argued against as unconstitutional and violates the
right to trial by jury (Hudson) stated in the sixth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Sherman Joyce, Victor Schwartz, and Darren McKinney of the ATRA, over 30 states
have implemented some sort of noneconomic damages reform. For example, in 1986 the Alaskan
government established a state cap of $500,000 on, noneconomic damages for cases that do not
involve any physical impairment or disfigurement. In 1997, Alaska adjusted the noneconomic
damages reform once more. In this modification of the reform, the state went into deeper detail
addressing different instances that could occur and the sufficient compensation for an individual s pain
and suffering. For a single death or injury to a greater extent of $400,000, they are awarded as much as
their life expectancy multiplied by $8,000. In another instance involving severe disfigurement or
physical impairment exceeding $1,000,000, it is the individual s life expectancy (in years) multiplied
by $25,000 (2). Many other states including Alabama, California, Missouri, and other states have
established their own type of cap or system for awarding damages for pain and suffering. In states that
have a cap or system of deciding awards, they have lower insurance and health care premiums and the
prices of goods and services stays lower. This benefits the state s economy as well as the Nation s.
According to most news articles and journals interpreting the progression of the tort reform,
noneconomic damages reforms are the most common throughout the states. As

human like actions through personification, whom stays up late to watch television (Faille, 2014), a
feat unusual for a wild bird. Furthermore personification is again addressed; through an emotional act
of a simple goodbye kiss between Jeremy and the human girl (Faille, 2014), outlining the care two
characters now share with each other (Tunnell, 2008).

Mother s vs. Father s and birthing process. For a working woman, maternity leave is a standard part of
giving birth. Physically, the new mother needs that time to recover from the birthing process, but there
is an emotional reason, too. Experts preach over and over that for those first few weeks of a baby s
life, it needs the interaction and touch of its mother to help with bonding to start their development on
the right track. Shouldn t the father be part of that process as well? Shouldn t the father of the new
child be able to take paternity leave from work? I believe they should, not only to bond with the child,
but to help the mother with her recovery and to coordinate visitors, appointments and any errands that
may be needed. Some people have a stigma that the mother is the one responsible for raising the child
from birth. I respectfully disagree. I believe the father should be as much a part of a baby s first weeks
as the mother. Why should a father be robbed of the intimate bonding time with his child just because
he didn t physically give birth to them? I feel this would help the father take better care of the child
when the mother returns to work, especially if the father is home at different times than the mother.
Having time at home bonding with their father will help the child recognize him when their mother is
not around and put them at ease. Studies have also shown that fathers who are home on paternity leave
are more likely to be

E Business Vs. E Commerce
Introduction Today, it is hard to find a software that does not have some sort of access to users
information; going from their name to their credit card information. In fact, with the evolution of
technology (most importantly the increase in access to the internet), E business or E commerce has
been pushed to a new level. Today, customers want to be able to access services at anytime, anywhere.
This has led to the development of applications that can be executed on distributed environment or in
real time such as Web based applications or a Client server application. Hence, secure software
development is not an option but a must that software engineers have to put in practice so that data
integrity can be guaranteed to users. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a consequence, an increasing number of users and organizations have expressed the need of more
robust systems and applications. Hence, this fact implies incorporating an effective security stage into
the development life cycle in order to be able to efficaciously assess security issues. Secure software
development cycle not only encompass the development and the implementation of a software but,
also the processes that guaranty that a piece of software meets its requirement while minimizing
expositions to malicious threats that could expose users and minimizing the cost of development
(Microsoft.com) Planning and requirements Requirement analysis is probably the most important and
more complex process in the Software Development Life Cycle framework. In Secure software
development, senior developers, together with stakeholders, not only discuss the fundamental of the
SDLC such as project planning, assessing product feasibility studies and management requirements,
but also define set of activities to formalize the security requirements for a specific product release
(SafeCode source). These activities are defined using use cases, strategic company security policies,
defined security improvement goals and customers inputs. This implies identifying functional and non
functional requirements and applying a high risk assessment on them in order to determine security
risks and to prioritize security requirements as per threat and risk

India s Ban On Tobacco Advertising
India in 2001 proposed a ban on tobacco advertisement in an effort to curb tobacco use with
adolescents. It was met with sharp criticism from the tobacco industry. However, some saw it as a
great move by the government in looking after the welfare of its citizens. I hope to explore in the
essay each side s voice as well as deal with the myriad of issues the government faced upon the bans
proposal. Lastly I will give my opinion on what position the government should take. One the main
arguments for this proposed ban was that the tobacco industry was targeting children. In fact citing an
internal documents from the tobacco industry that referred to 14 to 24 year olds as their targets
(Reynold, 2010). Recognizing this report for India was extremely important. Due to the increased
health problems of smoking by targeting a younger age bracket they would effectively increase the
weight the government had to carry when it comes to providing health care for its citizens. The
government also had in its favor the fact that in all but one case smoking use by young people had
decreased when these bans where put in effect. The government s argument for banning tobacco ads
can be summed up pretty simply. They were trying to watching out for the safety of their citizens and
were working toward the betterment of India. The government had the advantage of being able to take
the moral high road and being able to paint the tobacco industry as the devil . The Nays in this case
were represented

Grimm Ceramics
As a transfer student to this University I had the pleasure of prior experience with ceramics, the
medium I hold dear and near to my heart. Yet, it wasn t until I came to Southern that I realized the true
potential of this craft, for I had only ever thought of ceramics in its application of functional wares.
Over the course of my studies here at the University of Southern Mississippi I have branched out and
away from potting and into the world of Fine Art. It is here that I have been developing my skills in
both the ceramics and sculpture areas. Within each I created bodies of work disassociated from one
another in an attempt to separate my courses. However, it was through pushy professors from both
courses of study that I have been able to reach the level of craftsmanship and concept found in my
senior show.

The first of them was the only figure produced by me to retain all limbs. This was my try at achieving
a somewhat realistic representation of the human form. Shortly after completing this small piece I
realized that it is wholly unnecessary to try and replicate every detail of the original model. Taking a
look back at Grimm s works they are indeed of the figure, but there are exaggerations within the
features of her work. Not only are they exaggerated, each have a subtle reminder that they were indeed
constructed in thrown parts. Not all things figural have to be hyper, or even remotely, realistic to the
true form. With this in mind I began to dissect the figure, first with the limbs. Shaving down the limbs
to little more than nubs I found to be a visually appealing aesthetic for me, which at the time I knew
not why. Towards the end of the following summer semester the basic shape of my figures was
created. In a moment of rushed completion, I took what was intend to become one leg stump and
turned it into the tail predominant in my current

Sudden and Violent Shifting of Tectonic Plates Cause...
Earthquakes are a natural phenomena caused by the violent and sudden shifting of plates along
tectonic boundaries. Movement of tectonic plates releases stored energy producing seismic waves,
which travel through the solid rock of the upper layers of the earth s crust. Earthquakes occur along
belts, circum Pacific or Alpine, located near the edges of tectonic plates. Energy released by the
interaction between two plates can produce severe damage to the surrounding environment.
Earthquakes occur along tectonic plate boundaries and fault lines. Movement of tectonic plates can be
associated with three different types of boundaries: divergent, convergent, and transform. The
lithosphere forms the outer most layer of the earth s crust, which over lays a hotter, softer layer called
the asthenosphere. A divergent boundary is located along a margin where two plates are moving away
from one another. As the two plates move away from one another magma flows up into the empty
space, and forms a new section of the ocean floor. The creation of a new sea floor along a divergent
boundary produces oceanic ridges. The best know example of this type of boundary is the mid Atlantic
ridge. Convergent boundaries occur in area s where two plates merge forcing the lithosphere below the
asthenosphere. Once the lithosphere is forced back down into the earth, it is melted and reused as
magma volcanic arcs. This type of boundary forms oceanic trenches. Transform boundary occurs
when two continental

Many Challenges In Fone Bone, By Jeff Smith
The character I am writing about is Fone Bone in the book BONES by Jeff Smith. Many important
events that happen in this book including when Fone bone lost his cousins in the beginning, he has to
babysit mrs. possums kids without given a choice, and he struggles to cut firewood. These seem like
relevant events but they have a deep importance to this book as i go into depth in this essay. Fone
Bone faces many more challenges in BONES, throughout he learns a great deal about himself. When
fone bone lost his cousins he was tremendously lonely and he struggled to survive on his own until he
makes friends with ted and others throughout the book. For example mrs. possum brought fone
blankets and pie to keep him from starving and being cold at night. She did not only do this out of
kindness, she needed something out of it and didn t give fone an option really at all. She needed he
kids to be looked after while she went to go visit mrs. hedgehog. The lesson learned here was for the
cousins to stick together always and to stay away from locusts. ... Show more content on

He tried to call them back to the house but they would not listen. It went silent and fone bone was
worried, he had no idea where the kids ran off to. He searched the forest for them and heard a noise in
a bush thinking it was them hiding in the bush; fone bone opened the bush to rat creatures holding the
kids. He didn t know what to do but he was smart about getting them back, fone distracted the rat
creatures and snatched them right out of their hands and ran. Anyway the lesson fone bone learned
was to not let the kids run off and to make a stand when they are not listening for their safety. He also
should not chase the kids as a bear out of the

Women At Point Zero
Women at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi can be read and interpreted differently by two different
readers by examining three things; how El Saadawi uses metaphors and emotions that only females
can strongly relate to, how the use of villain and victim play a part in how each gender can personally
feel victimized or in the place of the antagonist, how certain aspects of the characters are important to
the plot line and the moral of the story. These parts of the book show how women can sympathize and
connect with Fridaus, while men can only sympathize to a certain extent. We encounter a situation
only really experienced by females on page 13, where Fridaus is being subjected to FGM (female
genital mutilation). In this moment she does not know what is being done and for what reasons. She
describes it as them cutting a piece of flesh from her, which leads to her crying all night and not being
able to attend her usual field ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The villains in the book consist of her father, her uncle, the uncle s wife, Marzouk, Bayoumi,
Abraham, and her husband. Fridaus encounters these men and has unpleasant experiences with them.
For example Bayoumi treated her nicely, took her in, made things feel and seem safe, and created a
dependency upon him; however, he later turns her into his tortured personal sex slave. The only way
she escaped was to be cut out of the house by a carpenter. Her father never gave her love and
affection, or any kind of attention other than on pages 23 and 24 where he hits her hand away from
taking his food which was the only food in the house. If you also look at the victims in the book they
were usually the women and mainly Fridaus herself. Other than all the awful situations that Fridaus
went through, she also does a monologue about how submissive women are also being victimized by
men in power on page 75 and later on page

Impact Of Drugs On Northern Ireland
Impacts of drugs on Northern Ireland Northern Ireland has had a long and hard history with violence
and oppression. For generations the people of Ireland have been at war with them selves, this has
caused lots of damage to the overall health of Ireland. The violence now is at an all time low, meaning
that this is the ideal time for Ireland to look at what harm, both mental and physical, the years of
violence has caused. The Irish people have always been known as drinkers of alcohol, this has been
one of the substances that people have been using to self medicate in Ireland for generations. There is
also a large issue with hard drugs in Northern Ireland, this has become a huge issue that Ireland has
not seemed to do be able to do anything about. Ireland has a large drug issue that stems from years of
violence and mayhem, this drug problem only causes more violence of its own. Ireland cannot move
towards a more lasting peace until they do all that is in their power to stop the rampant drug abuse that
is in their country. The people of Northern Ireland have been surrounded by violence for years, many
have added to it, and many more have been hurt by it. These wounds are not always physical they are
also mental as well, and that type of wound is much harder to heal. It is because of violence in that the
people in Northern Ireland have turned to self medication. One of the most common forms of self
medication is the consumption of alcohol. A 2010 study found that the average

Ralph Waldo Emerson s By The Mountain
By the Mountain
All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen Ralph Waldo Emerson
My residence sinks demurely into the margin of Mt. Julius. The mountain stands gallantly but the
concealed core is swept with solitude and mystery. A thick mist circles the mountain, casting a
phantom like shadow onto the bustling city below. It is a world away from life up here on the
mountainside, so much so I feel as though I am a stranger, a witness to the activity that continues
miles below my feet.
I dwell alone in my abode as it has been the norm for twenty years my whole existence. I am likely to
for the rest of my life. Within the enchanting visions of my mind, summer is spent in a fetching
bungalow on a towering hill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But alas, I remain on a chilling mountain, seen but at the same time ignored by all who reside beneath.
I gazed across the horizon, polluted with grey towers and vibrant lights, making no match to the sky
infused with honeyed ripples.
I long to explore those ruins but have been unable to. My mindset is restraining me tightly, its arms
curled around my waist. Even though I know it is a natural human instinct to fear for the unknown, my
conscience yearns for freedom.
The next day, I had broken away from the chains and took a step out onto the bare land as the glowing
sun bloomed from the villages. I was one step closer to alleviating the burden that lingered and
dominated my headspace. Taking hesitant steps towards the labyrinthine path, I inhaled the crisp air
and let it rest on my lips as I ambled through the towering bushes, the city in sight.
Billboards radiated dazzling light all around and clattering vehicles buzzed about crumbling roads that
stretched in all directions. It felt soulless and pathetic. Had they never felt the wind streaming
outwards through their hair? They never will, it is dark and dusty in these places. Had they ever had
the pleasure of breathing a clean breeze? Of course not, my lungs were wheezing and

Being An American Man Essay
Philippines it was never below 75 degrees and the humidity was always almost at 100 making
working in outdoor regions physically and emotionally draining. It was so hot the air conditioners
would freeze up and we would have to wait for them to thaw again. After being apart for 6 months,
my wife was able to come to the Philippines also. We moved into a small apartment off base and in
order for protection, we had a German Shepard dog. This pet was trained to attack Philippine people.
We needed protection because where we were located, American women were safe, but they didn t
like American males. American women could go wherever the pleased but American men had strict
rules to follow. One day, it was lightning and thundering out and in our apartment building base we
took Patsy, our protective German Shepard on a walk. The thunder scared Patsy which made her take
off for home as fast as she possible could run. When we got to our apartment again there was a
Philippine guard standing next to Patsy. Patsy was shaking because of the thunder and the guard was

This took one hour to drive and it was a daily hassle to get from one point to the other. There was a
main street that everyone took and it had about six lanes of traffic and it was barely as big as the main
street in George. One car was going this way and another headed another way along with one crossing
between both and horses with large buggies were galloping everywhere. It was all chaos. Also,
walking is probably coming to your mind right about now but if you were to walk people would steal
your billfold from your back pocket or the watch off your arm. On each side of the streets there was
always a souvenir shop, a bar, and a motel. It was also normal to see open gutters and people felt free
to use them at any time of the day, right in front of everyone. This was all a very different setting

Female Labor Force And Sterilization Practices
I would like to compare and contrast the subject of the Female Labor Force and Sterilization Practices.
As the progressive era began, there are a lot of changes for the women s labor force with respect to
politics. They were stronger because they stood up for themselves, refusing to be victims any longer
and they did so by way of going on strike and making demands (Dubois Dumenil, 2016). The labor
force at this time was 18.3% of women, which when compared to the 2014 statistic of 57%, shows a
substantial increase over this period of time ( Women in the Labor Force, n.d.). Wage rates for the
women in the early 1900 s continues to be approximately half of what the men earned, as well as there
was a division between occupations and business sectors between the sexes so women were not given
many options in the labor force. Many single women were limited to working in factories or domestic
labor. However, as time progressed, more opportunities such as clerical positions, which were once a
male dominated field, began to open for women. This gave them steady wages, clean and safe
working conditions but eventually had a similar setting as factories and some were even paid per piece
wages. Eventually, by the 1920 s, there were even professional fields opening up for the educated
female workforce. This gave women personal independence as they were in positions such as
medicine, law and teaching to name a few. However, these professional women would begin to have
problems as we

  • 2. As a son of a sharecropper and grandson of a slave, Jesse... As a son of a sharecropper and grandson of a slave, Jesse Owens created History in 1936 when he achieved what no athlete had done before: four Olympic Gold Medals. (jesseowens.com). During this era, the United States had limited civil rights and was approaching a World War with Hitler rising into power in Germany. Although Owens was victorious on the track, because of the color of his skin, He was looked down upon and unrecognized by even his own country. Through the excessive racism, one may ask how Owens moved forward and dealt with such negativity in a situation that should have been celebrated. Despite such success, Owens did not have the privilege to the luxuries of his fellow white teammates. Owens had to stay in black only hotels and restaurants. And although he deserved it, he was not offered any scholarships because he was Black and therefore was forced to work part time in order to pay for his education. On May 25th, 1935 Jesse Owens set three world records in a span of forty five minutes at the Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor(www.jesseowens.com). Despite his sore back that day, he achieved a 9.4 second victory in the 100 meter dash, long jumped 26 ft. 8 ¼ inches, sprinted at 20.3 seconds on the 220 meter sprint, and succeeded in the 220 yard low hurdles at 22.6 seconds. Owens s achievement stands as perhaps the best single day accomplishment of any track and field athlete history. Because of such great success, Owens entered the 1936 Olympics that were to be held in Berlin, Germany. Hitler was rising into power in Germany and it is said that he tried to use the Olympics in order to show the world a resurgent Germany (www.jesse owens.org). Nazi propaganda promoted concepts of Aryan racial superiority and depicted Africans as inferior. Hitler wanted the entire world to believe that the Aryan people were a dominant race. Owens had different plans, as he achieved four victories during the Track and field Olympics. On August 3rd Owens won the 100 meter dash at 10.35 seconds against Ralph ... I was a fourth year medical student at St. Marthers. Today I was assisting my first basic craniotomy, the partial removing of a skull due to a brain tumour, with my mentor, Blake Anderson. It was a dreary day, rain specks decorating the windows, the sound of wind whirling like a vast engine that could rend the soil. I recalled that Blake had always said that the first 24 hours after any surgery were critical, he said you go into surgery to be fixed, and during the post operation checks is when you find out if you were successful, or if there are any complications with the healing process. My stomach was sinking, I wasn t sure if it were nerves, or intuition. His scans were fine last night. I couldn t help but wonder what could have gone so wrong in such a short period of time. I could hear it, I could hear the increased intensity of the machines as his blood pressure dropped. I could see the patient bleeding out on the table. I could feel my head being cut open, as If I were under the knife. My thoughts were becoming irrational, I almost always imagined the worst. I was a persistent person, I bear a deeper malice, live to earn, thrive, and as persistent I was, I still managed to convince myself of the worst. I greeted Blake and the surgery team as they were scrubbing in, I could see the Pre anaesthesia nurse hooking up the patient, Jenna to fluids, and I could feel death creeping, like an obedient monster purring at its toil. I felt my stomach rise to my throat, yet I felt it drop to the floor. Blake looked at me, cautiously, and he assured me everything would be okay. The League Of The Iroquois Analysis In Matthew Dennis article, The League of the Iroquois, he focusses a lot of his attention on drawing comparisons between the Iroquois and the ancient civilization of Rome. Dennis even goes on to quote Dewitt Clinton in his address to the New York Historical Society in 1811 in which he refers to the Iroquois as the Romans of the western world. After personally studying the Iroquois nation over the course of this semester, I am surprised that I had not already made this stark comparison. • 8. Benefit Of Space Exploration America has reaped the benefits of space exploration for sixty years, despite the open knowledge of its effects on those who enter radiation and low gravity environments. A low gravity environment is a space in which gravity, an attracting force between two masses, is lowered in a way that causes a feeling of weightlessness (Newman, Phil. What Is Gravity? ). Lowered gravity can cause gene modification and alter behavior (Shikawa, Chihiro, et al. Effects of Gravity Changes on Gene Expression of BDNF and Serotonin Receptors in the Mouse Brain. ). It can also induce osteoporosis, an incurable disease increasing the susceptibility of bones to fracture ( Osteoporosis. ), causing astronauts to lose 1 2% of bone mass per month in space (Bones, Space. Space Bones. . Radiation (from space) is a type of ionizing radiation that releases energy when it occurs. When that energy is released, it can be absorbed by living tissue, which can cause irreparable DNA damage (Cucinotta, Francis A. Space Radiation Risks for Astronauts on Multiple International Space Station Missions. ). Some believe that the benefits of space exploration are great enough to overlook the decreasing health of astronauts who have been affected by space travel. I believe that the knowledge of space from space exploration is not beneficial enough to cause astronauts harm and long term health problems when the same work could be done by artificial intelligence. • 9. A Literary And Historical Standpoint Although it is practical from a literary and historical standpoint, object driven analyses of Shakespeare s First Folio fail to account for, as Brown says, the story of the object asserting itself as a thing. By treating the First Folio as only a book meant to be read for information these analyses let it stagnate in a subject object binary which leads us to falsely believe that the subject creates knowledge from the object. Or as Brown says, we are stuck viewing the object as a code by which our interpretive attention makes them meaningful (Brown 4). This line of thinking is problematic because the object then lacks agency. When the object transitions to a thing, the binary no longer applies and we can see that it has knowledge with or without a subject involved. Additionally, this shift out of the binary allows for the thing to become its own subject. If, as Baudrillard believes it is the subject that totalizes the world (qtd in Brown) then this implies that the thing is not merely passively impacted by the world but actively impacts the world with its presence. However, only viewing the First Folio as a thing in opposition to an object also limits our study of it. Instead, I propose that we should examine the story of an object becoming a thing. Before I further my argument I want to take a moment to fully examine the difference between an object and a thing and why current scholarship has failed to acknowledge the importance of the First Folio becoming a thing. ... • 11. Of The Vietnam War Burdens In Tim O Brien s The Things... Forty two years after the Fall of Saigon, the Vietnam War remains an affliction for Vietnam War Veterans and their families. Millions of our youth were forced to leave their home and carry inconceivable burdens. Thus, as a Vietnam War Veteran, Tim O Brien can depict thoroughly our Veterans burdens in The Things They Carried . His story brings us to First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross and his platoon in war torn Vietnam. Cross is the commanding officer; however, he does not concentrate on the war but on his unrequited love. As a result, a Viet Cong kills one of his subordinates, Ted Lavender. His death traumatizes the platoon, especially its commander. Furthermore, the narrator also depicts the burden of not only their equipment but also their psychological distress. In response to O Brien s short story, Steven Kaplan writes a criticism The undying uncertainty of the narrator in Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried. . In his criticism, Kaplan focuses on the uncertainty of the war. He argues that O Brien s ultimate purpose is to display the undying uncertainty of the Vietnam War (10). Despite his concrete and logical argument, he fails to address the significance of the soldiers physical and psychological burdens, which emphasizes the story s theme; therefore, his argument does not delineate the story entirely. Even though he does not describe the full theme, he uncloaks the general mood of the story. According to Kaplan, the only certain thing during the Vietnam War was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Noneconomic Damages Reform Essay Noneconomic Damages Reform There has been over three decades of debate over a reform that affects everything from insurance and health care premiums to the prices of goods and services. The Tort law gives civilians the right to put liability on a company and sue for a multitude of different things if something goes wrong. A main issue of the tort reform is noneconomic damages. Noneconomic damages are awards granted for pain and suffering. A solution to this ongoing problem is to set a cap, or ceiling, on the amount of compensation one can receive for his or her pain and suffering. For example, in 1986 the Alaskan government established a state cap of $500,000 on, noneconomic damages for cases that do not involve any physical impairment or disfigurement. In 1997, Alaska adjusted the noneconomic damages reform once more. In this modification of the reform, the state went into deeper detail addressing different instances that could occur and the sufficient compensation for an individual s pain and suffering. For a single death or injury to a greater extent of $400,000, they are awarded as much as their life expectancy multiplied by $8,000. In another instance involving severe disfigurement or physical impairment exceeding $1,000,000, it is the individual s life expectancy (in years) multiplied by $25,000 (2). Many other states including Alabama, California, Missouri, and other states have established their own type of cap or system for awarding damages for pain and suffering. In states that have a cap or system of deciding awards, they have lower insurance and health care premiums and the prices of goods and services stays lower. Evidence of precise vocabulary is used in describing a nest high in the big palm tree in our garden (Faille, 2014 pg. 1), creating depth and believability in the existence of the setting (Tunnel, 2008). Using figurative language, Jeremy is given human like actions through personification, whom stays up late to watch television (Faille, 2014), a feat unusual for a wild bird. Furthermore personification is again addressed; through an emotional act of a simple goodbye kiss between Jeremy and the human girl (Faille, 2014), outlining the care two characters now share with each other (Tunnell, 2008). ... • 22. Mother s Vs. Father s And Birthing Process Thesis Statement Mother s vs. Father s and birthing process. For a working woman, maternity leave is a standard part of giving birth. Physically, the new mother needs that time to recover from the birthing process, but there is an emotional reason, too. Experts preach over and over that for those first few weeks of a baby s life, it needs the interaction and touch of its mother to help with bonding to start their development on the right track. Shouldn t the father be part of that process as well? Shouldn t the father of the new child be able to take paternity leave from work? I believe they should, not only to bond with the child, but to help the mother with her recovery and to coordinate visitors, appointments and any errands that may be needed. Some people have a stigma that the mother is the one responsible for raising the child from birth. I respectfully disagree. I believe the father should be as much a part of a baby s first weeks as the mother. Why should a father be robbed of the intimate bonding time with his child just because he didn t physically give birth to them? I feel this would help the father take better care of the child when the mother returns to work, especially if the father is home at different times than the mother. Having time at home bonding with their father will help the child recognize him when their mother is not around and put them at ease. Studies have also shown that fathers who are home on paternity leave are more likely to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

E Commerce Introduction Today, it is hard to find a software that does not have some sort of access to users information; going from their name to their credit card information. In fact, with the evolution of technology (most importantly the increase in access to the internet), E business or E commerce has been pushed to a new level. Today, customers want to be able to access services at anytime, anywhere. This has led to the development of applications that can be executed on distributed environment or in real time such as Web based applications or a Client server application. Hence, secure software development is not an option but a must that software engineers have to put in practice so that data integrity can be guaranteed to users. The ... In Secure software development, senior developers, together with stakeholders, not only discuss the fundamental of the SDLC such as project planning, assessing product feasibility studies and management requirements, but also define set of activities to formalize the security requirements for a specific product release (SafeCode source). These activities are defined using use cases, strategic company security policies, defined security improvement goals and customers inputs. This implies identifying functional and non functional requirements and applying a high risk assessment on them in order to determine security risks and to prioritize security requirements as per threat and risk ... • 26. India s Ban On Tobacco Advertising India in 2001 proposed a ban on tobacco advertisement in an effort to curb tobacco use with adolescents. It was met with sharp criticism from the tobacco industry. However, some saw it as a great move by the government in looking after the welfare of its citizens. I hope to explore in the essay each side s voice as well as deal with the myriad of issues the government faced upon the bans proposal. Lastly I will give my opinion on what position the government should take. One the main arguments for this proposed ban was that the tobacco industry was targeting children. In fact citing an internal documents from the tobacco industry that referred to 14 to 24 year olds as their targets (Reynold, 2010). Recognizing this report for India was extremely important. Due to the increased health problems of smoking by targeting a younger age bracket they would effectively increase the weight the government had to carry when it comes to providing health care for its citizens. The government also had in its favor the fact that in all but one case smoking use by young people had decreased when these bans where put in effect. The government s argument for banning tobacco ads can be summed up pretty simply. They were trying to watching out for the safety of their citizens and were working toward the betterment of India. The government had the advantage of being able to take the moral high road and being able to paint the tobacco industry as the devil . The Nays in this case were represented ... Yet, it wasn t until I came to Southern that I realized the true potential of this craft, for I had only ever thought of ceramics in its application of functional wares. Over the course of my studies here at the University of Southern Mississippi I have branched out and away from potting and into the world of Fine Art. It is here that I have been developing my skills in both the ceramics and sculpture areas. Within each I created bodies of work disassociated from one another in an attempt to separate my courses. Not only are they exaggerated, each have a subtle reminder that they were indeed constructed in thrown parts. Not all things figural have to be hyper, or even remotely, realistic to the true form. With this in mind I began to dissect the figure, first with the limbs. Shaving down the limbs to little more than nubs I found to be a visually appealing aesthetic for me, which at the time I knew not why. • 28. Sudden and Violent Shifting of Tectonic Plates Cause... Earthquakes are a natural phenomena caused by the violent and sudden shifting of plates along tectonic boundaries. Movement of tectonic plates releases stored energy producing seismic waves, which travel through the solid rock of the upper layers of the earth s crust. Earthquakes occur along belts, circum Pacific or Alpine, located near the edges of tectonic plates. Energy released by the interaction between two plates can produce severe damage to the surrounding environment. Earthquakes occur along tectonic plate boundaries and fault lines. Movement of tectonic plates can be associated with three different types of boundaries: divergent, convergent, and transform. The lithosphere forms the outer most layer of the earth s crust, which over lays a hotter, softer layer called the asthenosphere. A divergent boundary is located along a margin where two plates are moving away from one another. As the two plates move away from one another magma flows up into the empty space, and forms a new section of the ocean floor. The creation of a new sea floor along a divergent boundary produces oceanic ridges. The best know example of this type of boundary is the mid Atlantic ridge. Convergent boundaries occur in area s where two plates merge forcing the lithosphere below the asthenosphere. Once the lithosphere is forced back down into the earth, it is melted and reused as magma volcanic arcs. This type of boundary forms oceanic trenches. Transform boundary occurs when two continental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women At Point Zero Women at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi can be read and interpreted differently by two different readers by examining three things; how El Saadawi uses metaphors and emotions that only females can strongly relate to, how the use of villain and victim play a part in how each gender can personally feel victimized or in the place of the antagonist, how certain aspects of the characters are important to the plot line and the moral of the story. These parts of the book show how women can sympathize and connect with Fridaus, while men can only sympathize to a certain extent. We encounter a situation only really experienced by females on page 13, where Fridaus is being subjected to FGM (female genital mutilation). • 34. Female Labor Force And Sterilization Practices I would like to compare and contrast the subject of the Female Labor Force and Sterilization Practices. As the progressive era began, there are a lot of changes for the women s labor force with respect to politics. They were stronger because they stood up for themselves, refusing to be victims any longer and they did so by way of going on strike and making demands (Dubois Dumenil, 2016). The labor force at this time was 18.3% of women, which when compared to the 2014 statistic of 57%, shows a substantial increase over this period of time ( Women in the Labor Force, n.d.). Wage rates for the women in the early 1900 s continues to be approximately half of what the men earned, as well as there was a division between occupations and business sectors between the sexes so women were not given many options in the labor force. Many single women were limited to working in factories or domestic labor. However, as time progressed, more opportunities such as clerical positions, which were once a male dominated field, began to open for women. This gave them steady wages, clean and safe working conditions but eventually had a similar setting as factories and some were even paid per piece wages. Eventually, by the 1920 s, there were even professional fields opening up for the educated female workforce. This gave women personal independence as they were in positions such as medicine, law and teaching to name a few. However, these professional women would begin to have problems as we ...
