Errors In The Alamo Movie
The Alamo was one of the most important events in settling the land in the western part of the country.
There are several movies about it but The Alamo 1960 is the movie used for this paper. This film did
an okay job depicting what really happened in that two week siege from February 23, 1836 to March
6, 1836, so there were some historical errors in the movie. A couple of the errors in the movie is that
the actual battle of the Alamo was fought at dawn when the enemies were asleep. Another was how
the Mexican forces were shown as the ones that wanted the battle but in reality, they were the ones
that were protecting what was theirs already. There were also some inaccuracies with individual
characters and event leading up to the battle were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie, Colonel Fanin s men were killed before the battle. But in reality, they were killed after
the battle so the only real reasonable way they never made it is because they didn t bring any supply
wagons. Another error comes from one of the dresses that Susannah Dickinson wore, the dress has a
zipper, it s not possible for her to have one on her dress since zipper weren t invented until 1914 and
even after that they were never used on dresses until the late 1930s. Another factual mistake is how
Bowie got a letter that his wife had died while he was away in the movie but in real life she had died
in 1833 and the battle was in 1836. In real life, it was her sister that came and accompanied Bowie
during his battle with the Mexicans. In the movie, Jim Bowie is hurt during the battle by an explosion
and he shown trying to recover in a room on the bed. But in real life he wasn t injured in an explosion
he was trying to get well from an illness that symptoms that he showed made it be believed that he had
pneumonia, tuberculosis, or typhoid. In the movie, Travis states that he is married but by the time of
the battle he had already been

The Agricultural Revolution And The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution is where the production of machine made goods increased greatly. This took
place in the 1700s in England. Before the Industrial Revolution happened these goods were produced
handmade. I think the agricultural revolution was a pretty big part of the Industrial Revolution. The
agricultural revolution had a couple key parts. The first one is crop rotation which increase food
supplies and living conditions for the people in England. They were able to plant a whole field of
something and the next year be able to plant the same field with a whole new crop. Another key point
is the wealthy landowners took the land from the villagers which allowed them to make larger fields
called enclosures. With having these enclosures it allowed the owners to try many different ways to
plant their food. Jethro Tull was a scientific farmer who realized that planting seed by throwing it out
didn t get all of the seed to grow. He thought it was wasteful so he decided to create the seed drill in
1701. The seed drill let the farmers put the seed in perfectly spaced rows at certain depths. This
invention boosted the crops in a pretty big way. Without these advancements in agriculture the
industrial revolution wouldn t have been the way it was. The agriculture revolution treated many
different ways to more efficiently make more crops and what the industrial revolution is, is the output
of machine made goods. With these new advancements you can create many more machine made

Financial Projections
We present four scenarios (modest, reasonable expected, excellent and worst case) in our projections.
We project out five years (years 1 to 5). We use the contribution margin income statement format with

Marie Antoinette And Louis Xvi
It is known by many that all actions have equal and opposite reactions which is perfectly displayed in
the history of the French Revolution. By the actions of growing up, Marie Antoinette had nothing to
worry about as she was the heiress to the Austrian land. Married off at 15 to Louis XVI, she was given
the responsibility of ruling France a much bigger country alongside her husband. Now she had more
money and a husband that would do anything for her so she uses that to her advantage. Louis was a
simple and innocent man; therefore Marie was able to easily influence his decisions. Both husband
and wife did not really care about the welfare of their country and the people, which led to the citizens
revolting. Marie Antoinette used all the money she wanted without thinking of the consequences.
Marie and Louis governed their country with absolute power and no one could stop them or interfere
with their expenses. Together Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI were able to destroy their country
which provokes the people to want more for themselves and their country. Their actions and decisions
built up anger in the people which later resulted in the French Revolution and the execution of both
King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette contributed to the French
Revolution by ruled the country in an absolute monarchy, forcing the people to be divided into classes,
and leading the country to a financial crisis which instigated the people to start a

A Study On Renal Cancer
Adrianna Dunn
Professor Riggs
English Composition 1
Due: 11 December 2014
Renal Cancer It is the one word that can send chills and tremors up anyone s back, because in one
word alone everything can change. Cancer, a word that in itself holds so many questions, thoughts,
fears, and worries. There are over 100 different types of cancer; however all cancers begin because
abnormal cells grow out of control. Normal cells follow a pattern: they grow, divide, and die. Cancer
cells grow differently than normal cells. Instead of dying, the cells reproduce more abnormal cells.
Cancer cells are also very distinct in the fact that they can grow into other tissues, normal cells cannot
do this. The deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is in every cell, it is what directs all the cell s actions. In
normal cells, when DNA gets destroyed the cell either dies or repairs itself; in cancer cells, however,
the cell goes on making new cells that the body has no use for. The new cells now have the same
abnormal DNA as the first cell. If cancer cells penetrate the blood stream or lymph vessels they can
easily spread and attack other areas of the body. Today, hundreds of thousands of people are fighting
or have fought cancer. Over one half of all men and one third of all women will develop cancer during
their lifetime. It is safe to say that almost every person has been affected by cancer in some way,
shape, or form. Cancer in itself is the modern day epidemic much like the black plaque was during its
era.

My Experience At The Omaha Airport
It was a freezing day in Omaha, Nebraska. I sat in a chair overlooking the blizzard clad window of my
studio apartment. After coming to Omaha just a few weeks ago, I had been through a horrific car
accident, narrowly missing any injury. Earlier, I had been stranded at the Omaha airport due to another
blizzard. I had to walk to the nearest bus stop, with all my bags, during a snowstorm. Having lived in
the tropical Mumbai and then the humid, subtropical Raleigh, North Carolina, the frigid Omaha wind
chilled my bones and my resolve.
As I looked through the window, reflecting on myself and my career, my first thoughts were of my
parents . I am the only child of my highly educated parents. They were worried and wanted me to
return to India. It was tempting to quit. But I asked myself: Why am I here and what am I trying to
achieve? The years of my childhood rolled by. I was reminded of Saidu and Rohan.
Saidu lived in a small shack near our home and did odd jobs for us. His family, poor and uneducated,
lived in a village far away. He had come to Mumbai by himself to make a living. He worked at ten
different homes every day and burned the midnight oil to finish high school. Rohan was one of my
neighborhood friends. He was in high school when he lost his parents. Although he finished high
school, he had to work part time to support his undergraduate education.
In contrast, I had access to the best educational opportunities in India. After completing undergraduate
education in

Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
Nineteen Eighty Four written by George Orwell is a dystopian novel set in a fictional totalitarian state
of Oceania, where the brainwashed citizens are under constant surveillance, and public mind control
dictated by Big Brother, the Party leader. Thus, any independent thought by any individual or group
would severely be punished by the state as a Thought Crime . Punishments could be severe ranging
from reeducation and torture to vaporization meaning death. Around the same year of the publication
of Nineteen Eighty Four, coincidently, a Soviet trained guerrilla fighter named Kim Il Sung became
the founder of a new country the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. Following the Korean War,
Kim Il Sung successfully created the world s most impenetrable cult of personality, which succeeds on
to his grandson, Kim Jon Un s generation and continues its dictatorial regime today. There is no way
of avoiding the incalculable numbers of billboards and posters with military slogans and propaganda.
Throughout the nation, television sets are hardwired to receive a single signal, broadcast by the state.
Thus, each households and public places are installed with cameras and wiretaps surveilling any
individuals against the leader and its Party s policies will be terminated along with the future family
members. Even the actual building the Great Leader Kim Il sung has created. All of these are
frightening reminiscences of Orwell s Nineteen Eighty four.

The Evolution of Attack Helicopters in Vietnam
Every technological advance has a time in place were it grows expeditiously to a point where most of
the technology has been developed and from there on it is just a matter of improving it. For example,
fixed wing aviation has been around for more than one hundred years and the aircraft have evolved
quickly at first but after the first 30 to 40 years they haven t change from the original configuration
much. For attack aviation that was Vietnam 1958 1975, the changes in advancement brought some
helicopters to the forefront and found some defunded and push aside for over 40 years.

Figurative Blindness In Oedipus The King
Although blindness and sight seem diametrically opposed, they are more similar to each other than it
would seem. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex, the relationship between figurative blindness and literal
blindness is portrayed. In the play, figurative blindness is what Oedipus has as he does not understand
his parentage and the prophecy of his doom. Literal blindness is what Teiresias has suffered with his
whole life. Sophocles proves in the play that figurative blindness is far more harmful than literal
blindness due to the unwarranted sense of control that sight gives him. Oedipus, even though he can
see with his own eyes, is completely clueless to what is happening around him in Thebes. First of all,
he thinks his parents are Polybus and Merope of Corinth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This illustrates the pattern of blindness that is prevalent throughout Greek plays. Literal vision is
clearly seen as not helpful unless you can actually see what is going on. Oedipus s figurative sight
comes from his understanding of his true parentage. And for him, receiving true sight necessitates
shaking off the distractions of literal vision. The second important problem with Oedipus s sight is that
it gives him a sense of control and a strong feeling of arrogance. First of all, Oedipus questions the
blind prophet Teiresias about why the plague is devastating Thebes. Oedipus forensically questions
Teiresias like he understands what is happening, when that is clearly inaccurate and in fact very ironic.
Oedipus says very ironically to Teiresias, You sightless, witless, senseless, mad old man (Perrine
1238). In reality, it is Oedipus who lacks sight and sense and Teiresias who possesses these in
abundance. Oedipus talks in the language of rational inquiry, of the courts and of those new sciences
that were already displacing the theologically based sciences that were already

Critical Review of a Psychology Research Article on Students
Research Issues in Psychology Critical Review of a Research Article Pupils who exhibit gifted
characteristics along with another disability are referred to as twice exceptional students (Morrison,
2001; Nielsen 2002). This term is used in the article that I have chosen to review, which analyzes the
responses and perceptions through interview, of one particular individual (Andrew) who was
identified as being gifted and talented (G/T) and who had emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD).
What the researchers aimed to accomplish through this analysis was a clearer understanding of
Andrew s community and school experiences, as they stated that there was a lack of empirical data
focusing upon pupils who displayed such behaviors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teaching, according to the Teacher s Training Agency, ...is a job for those who like and respect young
people (2005). Andrew clearly from his responses, suffered during his schooling, and perhaps felt
disrespected as a result of being labelled. His position as an educator a number of years later, enable
him to look quite critically upon his educators, almost, one could argue with an expert eye. As well as
the questions which are raised about the size of the sample that was used, it is also necessary to point
out the lack of detail present concerning how the sample was chosen. Andrew s reflective experiences
several years after they occurred surely cannot be as valid as for example, a sample of children
displaying twice exceptional abilities within schools at the time of commencing the research. Perhaps
Morrison and Omdal had valid reasons for choosing Andrew as their lone participant, but this detail is
missing from their study. There is no evidence either to suggest whether Andrew was de briefed about
the nature of this study, which could prove significant with regard to his responses to the interview
questions, especially as he talks with such fervour about his experiences. Since they only had one
participant for this research, an interview was an appropriate method to gain access to Andrew s
experiences in school and in the community. An interview as stated in Cohen et al

The Chinese Stock Market
The Chinese stock market is celebrating its 25th anniversary later this year, and its first 25 years have
been a fairly consistent story. There has been a history of large, government driven rallies, followed by
dramatic sell offs that have left many investors angry. As of August 2, 2015, stocks are down 29%
from their peak in June 2015. The current bear market defined as a fall of 20% or more from a peak is
the 27th that investors have suffered in the past 25 years. It is the 21st worst in terms of losses . The
government has intervened heavily during this most recent bear market, and although the intervention
created some short term relief, in the long term the heavy intervention is setting China up for future
trouble. Since opening up its market to foreign trade and free market returns in 1979, China has been
one of the fastest growing economies, with GDP growth averaging nearly 10% through 2014. China is
a major global economic leader, and is the world s largest economy (purchasing power), manufacturer,
merchandise trader, and holder of foreign exchange reserves . The economic financial crisis in 2008
had a large impact on China s economy. Growth slowed, exports declined, and millions lost jobs. The
government implemented a $586 billion economic stimulus package, and loosened monetary policies.
The stimulus package helped the decreased demand for Chinese products, but the economy has still

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Industrialised Building...
Introduction
Through globalization, technology has increased rapidly in not only in Malaysia but also other
country. In Malaysia, Industrialised Building System (IBS) is one of the technologies that has
implemented by government. It has started since 1960 s. But however it becomes more popular in
1998 when government recommends a Strategic Plan as the blueprint for whole construction sector.
IBS system has been promoting by CIDB. To increase the use of IBS, CIDB has taken the step of
formulating IBS Roadmap. The main reason for implementing IBS system in Malaysia is to increase
the productivity, waste of construction material, time and reduce the use foreign labors.
However, implementation of IBS has not found popular from local construction industry. There is very
low profile of construction sector using IBS as their main building construction.

Social Condition In Jane Eyre
Women were pressured to follow and obey the social conditions that were present during the Victorian
era. During the Victorian era when married, women would lose all right to their possessions and
property. Women belonged in the home and were classified as a Domestic Angel or a Fallen Woman .
The social conditions for women in the Victorian era are acknowledge and challenged by Charlotte
Bronte in her novel Jane Eyre. Through Bronte s use of characters such as Blanche, Bertha, and Jane
she portrays the different social conditions each woman faced.
Bronte depicts the ideal Victorian woman, also known as a Domestic Angel , through her description
of the character Blanche. As described by Bronte in the novel, ... the three most distinguished partly,
perhaps, because the tallest figures of the band were the Dowager Lady Ingram and her daughters,
Blanche and Mary. They were all three of the loftiest stature of women, (17). Bronte s use of words
that coincide with the idealistic version of a woman during the Victorian era describe how Blanche
and her family were perceived by the other characters in the novel. Bronte describes Blanche as the
most distinguished women, consisting of the loftiest stature. The ideal women during this time would
be confined to her home to protect their innocence, moral, and, domestic paragon. Women were a
model of excellence in the home and were meant to stay that way. When talking to her daughter,

Cogniative Biases And Donald Trump s Effect On The Media
Out of the 11 Cogniative Biases, the 4 that have impacted my life the most through experiences are
Priming Theory, Contrast Principle, Status Quo Bias, and the Loss Aversion Bias. The Priming Theory
nearly effects everything we do, whether it s listening to music, or watching TV. We are Primed
everyday, and one of the most common ways is through watching the news. During the last election, it
s safe to say even when you re not watching the news daily, we still heard new stories every day about
the canidates. As a democrat, I naturally was not Donald Trumps biggest fan. I find that the Priming
Theory plays a bigger role in who we vote for in elections than I initially thought. We do not have to
watch the daily news on TV, or read the newspaper any more to learn about news. News is all around
us, but the number one source where I read my news is on my phone. I spend a decent amount of time
on my phone and I come across alot of News Articles, when Donald Trump is in the headline I can
usually predict it s something I ll find entertaining or infruiating to read, so 99% of the time I will
click on the article no matter what it s about. I tend to read more liberal based articles, which
subconciously Primes me to not like Donald Trump more through each article I read, because they are
mostly based about the negative things he has done. The Contrast Principle Theory has affected my
life in many different ways but one of the larger ways is through magazine s shifting my

King Claudius Research Paper
Claudius is the king of Denmark and is a powerful king by showing many different uses of the power
he took. Claudius first of all gained his power from his brother who he had killed. He has kept the
murder covered up and retains his power. Claudius also married the queen who has given even more
power to his throne. Lastly, Claudius is king of Denmark and all these actions fuels the power set for
him during the play. One of the actions he took that started Claudius rule was the murder of Hamlet s
original father. The murder was covered up and not noticeable. During the play Claudius begins to feel
guilty for his actions and says, There is not rain enough in the sweet heavens to wash it white as snow
(Shakespeare 3.3.45 46). Claudius pleads for mercy and says that he wants his sins washed. This also
shows how he is now feeling guilty for hamlet s fathers murder.
Claudius also says, O, my offence rank, it smells to heaven; It hath the primal eldest curse upon, A
brother s murder. (Shakespeare 3.3.36 39). Claudius here tells of his guilt again and to him it s like a
stain that won t go away. After killing old Hamlet, Claudius retains his power as the king. Another

Case Study Of Costa Crociere
Costa Crociere S.p.A. is an Italian cruise line company. It was founded in 1854 in Genoa as a cargo
shipping company. In the first decades of the XX century, the operations expanded at great speed until
1947, when passenger transportation services between Italy and South America were introduced. In
the following years the company converted all its business full time cruising and in the 90 s it became
one of the biggest cruise operators in Europe.
Until 1997, Costa Crociere was a family owned business, but that year the majority of its stakes were
sold to Carnival Corporation Plc, an American conglomerate that owns some of the most important
cruise line companies in the world. Costa Crociere, now also known as Costa Cruises Group remained

The Bronze Door Summary
The topic is about the theological features of the bronze doors of Hildesheim reflects and why Bishop

background as well as the long struggle between Bernward and the formidable female Sophia, abbess
of Gandersheim. About the contents organized in the article, first, the author tries to prove that
Bernward played a pivotal part in designing the bronze doors by providing the proof of his artistic

medieval Europe. Moreover, the author indicates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The materials the author provides to support his thesis are come from many documents and visual
analysis. First of all, the author claims that Bernware had strong ability to help design the door by
providing the text in his vita in which it states Berware excelled in the mechanical arts. As for he
travel experience as the reference for the door, the style of the door combines the format of the Early
Christian type with the medium of Carolingian examples, for instance, the juxtaposed narratives of the
Old and new Testaments on the door. It does not appear in Touronian manuscript. Moreover, compared
to other Carolingian models, Bernware created his own Genesis cycle because of the illustration of
Eve in Junius11. The example could be the entire absence of the Creation of Eve. Moreover, the style
of Eve and Adam also implies that Bernware tries to convey perils of seductive women. First, he
emphasized Eve s imbalance moving, height and body shape, representing an aggressive and sexually
provocative woman. The fruits also represent breast, warning man against touching the breast. The
reason why Bernware depited negative images because Genesis B reflects Eve s the internalized guilty
as well as the reformers were opposed to marriage, claiming women causing sin to the world.
Bernware may share the belief because the emperor, Henry II and Synod of Goslar were supporters in

Dawson Mcallister Gender Stereotypes
Gender Stereotypes The issue of gender stereotypes is a complex one. When people think about this
problem, they think that men and women have to have certain roles in society. The gender stereotype
that women are more emotional than men is a very common gender stereotype that is a problem in our
society. This stereotype was most common around 1952, yet the stereotype still occurs today through
the media. Judging a women to be the more emotional gender is bad for society because it shapes the
woman into being that stereotype. Even though the stereotype that women are more emotional than
men is often portrayed through society and the media, men are just as emotional as women. In
particular, men can get more emotional than women after a breakup. ... Show more content on

This stereotype is presented in The Hopeline by Dawson McAllister who writes about how and why
women are more emotional than men. The article states, Women are more prone to talk about what
they are thinking and feeling, and to demonstrate how they are feeling with their tears, facial
expressions, hand gestures, and body language (McAllister 8). After taking time to analyze the
evidence, McAllister is false because even though women often show their emotions, men are more
emotional deep down, but are not willing to show it. According to Elite Daily by Paul Hudson, he
states that, In this study, conducted by neurologists at Mindlab, men are actually much more sensitive
than women when it comes to being presented with emotional stimuli... Boys are taught to be ashamed
of the emotions that they experience, so they grow into men who are both emotional confused and in
denial... Don t cry. Don t pout. Don t complain Be a man an emotionless, stubborn man (Hudson 13).
As can be seen in the evidence, men have a bigger reaction to stimuli. Furthermore, while men are
taught to hide their feelings, women are taught to share their emotions with others, and this causes
men to tend to be more emotional. In conclusion, men are just as, sometimes more, emotional than
women, but they hide their emotions

General Mining Act Research Paper
The General Mining Act of 1872 encourages people and companies to prospect for minerals on
federally owned land. This encourages US citizens and businesses to stake a claim on the plot of land
and patent the claim for about $5 per acre. (Withgott) Until recently, there was no requirement to
restore the land after mining. Several mining techniques have been used over the years. From strip
mining, subsurface mining to open pit, placer, and mountaintop mining.
Strip mining is a process where layers of surface soil and rock are removed and exposed. The
overlaying soil called, overburden is set aside while the resource is extracted. Once completed, the
overburden is then refilled, and the process begins again on another strip of land. Strip mining ...

Miners systematically removed the resource and ship it to the surface. Subsurface mining is generally
done for metals such as zinc, lead, nickel, tin, gold, copper and uranium. Subsurface mining is
extremely dangerous due to natural gas explosions, which can cause shafts and tunnels to collapse.
Open pit mining is used when a resource is spread out in a rock formation. An enormous hole is dug,
and the source is then removed. Open Pit mining is generally used for mining for gold, diamonds,
coal, copper and other resources. This method consumes a large amount of habitat that becomes lost.
Once mining is completed the pit will generally fill up with water.
Placer mining uses water to separate mud and gravel from mineral of value. The disruption of ancient
riverbeds is very harsh and environmentally destructive causing debris to be deposited into streams
and making them uninhabitable for fish or other life forms for many miles downstream. This method
is very similar to the Gold rush days in California in1849, that the practice was halted in 1884. The
disruption of stream banks, high erosion, and harming ecological plant communities makes this one of

The Era Of America After The Antebellum Period
It is believed that the beginning of a task is often the most important as well as the most difficult,
because it consists of discovering the basis to success with a greater chance of failure. The
establishment of America after gaining independence from Great Britain relied heavily on the
foundations set during the antebellum period, which is often classified as the period of time before the
civil war. During such vital time in American history came a number of fundamental Supreme Court
cases. The outcome of various cases significantly shaped the future of America into the country we
know today. Perhaps some of the most important cases include Marbury v. Madison, Gibbons v.
Ogden, and Dred Scott v. Sandford. McCulloch v. Maryland is possibly the most prominent Supreme
Court case throughout the antebellum period that occurred in 1819, even though different
interpretations of the Necessary and Proper Clause have led to many controversies regarding its
meaning and the potential supreme authority of congress, this landmark case established that the
federal government has certain implied powers under the constitution. Primarily, individuals who
supported the National Bank argued that the bank was essential in regulating the money distributed by
state banks. However, many states wanted nothing concerning the National Bank in their precincts in
fear of state banks being rundown. Citizens that opposed claimed that Congress did not have the
power to establish a National Bank and

The Bolsheviks
Lawyers would say that Europe, Asia, and the United States of America are completely different.
However, from the point of view of the citizens, the similarities in their daily lives are numerous, even
if some fundamental differences remain. To begin with the most obvious similarity and example: in
the USA, as well as in parts of Europe, citizens use a single currency, identical to the currency of their
neighboring States. Just as in Europe, in the USA, several decisions remain the responsibility of the
states, such as highway code, certain taxes, social welfare, minimum wages, and certain areas of
justice. At the political level, some plea for further independence of the States in relation to the federal
government, while others are bidding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should not be unforeseen that the Bolsheviks worked hard to safeguard that any person potentially
antagonistic to them did not retain arms. The first Soviet gun controls were enacted during the Russian
Civil War, as Czarists, Western troops, and national independence movements fought the central Red
regime. Firearm registration was instituted on April 1, 1918. In October 1918, the Council of People s
Commissars (the government) ordered the renunciation of all firearms, ammunition, and sabers. As
has been the case in nearly every nation where firearms registration has been introduced, registration
proved a preamble to confiscation. Excused from the confiscation order, however, were affiliates of
the Communist Party. A 1920 decree imposed a obligatory minimum penalty of six months in prison
for non Communist possession of a firearm, even where there was no felonious intent. After the Red
triumph in the Civil War, the firearm laws were consolidated in a Criminal Code, which if broken,
unauthorized possession of a firearm would be punishable by rigid labor. A 1925 law made
unauthorized possession of a firearm punishable by three months of hard labor, plus a fine of 300
rubles (equal to about four months wages for a highly paid construction worker). Stalin apparently
found little need to alternate the weapons control structure he had inherited. This chapter of Lethal
Laws summarizes the genocide perpetrated by Stalin from 1929 to 1953, starting with his efforts to
collectivize farming by destroying the class of property owning farmers. Altogether, about twenty
million people were murdered, worked to death in slave labor camps, or deliberately starved to death
by Stalin s government. Stalin s successful campaign of genocide against the Kulaks and against
dissident Communists served as a model for

Keeping the Past Alive in in A Rose for Emily by William...
Miss Emily Grierson, the leading character in A Rose for Emily , is a bizarre woman to say the least.
Faulkner begins this story with Miss Emily s funeral, and continues to tell about the interesting events
in her life. All throughout the story, Miss Emily exhibits many traits of a mentally ill person, but is
never medically diagnosed. Faulkner writes, Miss Emily had been a tradition, a duty, and a care (245),
meaning that she stuck to her Southern raised ways. She refused to conform to the modernization of
the world around her. The narrator of this story seems to be a person that knows Miss Emily and her
family very intimately. The narrator also considers themselves apart of the townspeople referred to as
the we throughout the story. This story tells about the ups and downs in the extremely intriguing life of
a woman that refuses to leave her past. After her death, the whole town went to her funeral: the men
through a sort of respectful affection for a fallen monument, the women mostly out of curiosity to see
the inside of her house (Faulkner 244). No one had been into her home in at least a decade except for
the workers. Faulkner uses imagery to describe the big, squarish framed house that had once been
white (244). Miss Emily came from a wealthy family during the Antebellum Era, and her house
appears to not have been touched up since then. Miss Emily was not one to accept to charity by any
means. After the death of her father, Colonel Sartoris remitted

Analysis Of Death Of A Salesman And Of Mice And Men
Arthur Miller and John Steinbeck portray the failure and hopelessness of the American dream in the
play Death of a Salesman and in the novella Of Mice and Men . The American Dream is the idea that
any man or woman can make his or her own fortune, despite his or her past. The principles of the
American dream are hard work and determination it is believed that this will ensures success. Through
the creation of the main characters of the play and novella Arthur Miller and John Steinbeck show that
the American dreams is fraudulent.
During the 1920s and 1930s, the depression was a cause of major hardship and seemed to be a reverse
of the dream which people held dear for so long. Arthur Miller shows this through failure and
hopelessness of the American dream through the protagonist Willy Loman a leader of the Loman
family.Willy is the protagonist a salesman in his late 60s. In Of Mice and Men On October 4 1929,
millions of dollars were washed away in an event named the Wall Street crash. It led to the
hopelessness in America which led the country to a poor state in the country from 1930 1936.Many
people lost their life savings when banks had gone bankrupt, one third of Americas population was
became unemployed. Steinbeck s main characters George and Lennie are the part of the ones who fail
to achieve their dream. Lennie is large, childlike migrant worker. Due to his mental disability, Lennie

Introduction As we glance at the evolution of nursing we begin to realize that the practice of today has
been built upon 140 years of research that is responsible for the growth and development of evidenced
based practice. This paper will explore several theories from Florence Nightingale to today s theorist
in sequence to visualize the development of our current nursing practice Each theorist has its own
unique conceptual model that propels our profession to think differently when applied to our practice.
Evidenced based practice is therefore a deliberate, intellectual activity by which the practice of
nursing is approached in an orderly, systematic manner also known as the nursing process (Walker
amp; Avant, 2011). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Dr. Teruko Takahashi of Japan, he noted that nursing science is a unique human science
which focuses on phenomena related to human health (George, 2011). Dr. Brian Millar of Great
Britain noted nursing science as the body of knowledge developed from questions raised by nurses
and investigated by them, concerning the relationship of the human health environment (George,
2011). Therefore, nursing is both an art and a science that have derived concepts that leads to further
research, new theories and evidence based practice (Walker amp; Avant, 2011). Influences on Nursing
Holistic care is the hallmark of nursing practice. It is said that to treat disease we must look at the
whole person, spiritually, physically and psychologically. The classical definition of holism is that
people are multidimensional. They are interacting wholes and more than the sum of their parts
(Hancock, 2000). Focusing on holistic care when planning new developments and writing guidelines
or policies is all to the good but is only meaningful if patients perceive that they receive holistic care
from the staff with whom they have contact (Willis, 2002). Patients who receive holistic care may
respond better to treatment because they perceive their whole being as being cared for. Ultimately,
nursing as a science has been influenced by other disciplines such as philosophy, religion,

his school after the age of twelve, so he went to work as an intern carpenter. He showed grow great
effort in his work, although he was already determined to become a priest. He entered the institution at
the age of fourteen and was adapted to a priest in 1942, when he was 25. Recognising the supremacy
of radio to grasp the people, he persuaded five radio stations to program his Sunday readings to
provincial agriculturalists who thought they were unwanted in the churches. Throughout the time
Oscar was a priest, he was a great speaker and had quite a bit of experience and learnt more about God

military for their torture, killings and terrorisation of the rural population. This brought down
persecution on the Church and six priests and dozens of catechists were killed prior to his own

years of the public life of Jesus. The preaching, the teaching, the prayer and solitude. The closeness to

the pharisaic plotting against him, the doubts and the fears, the death threats and the public execution.

Heroism In Hamlet
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, often shortened to Hamlet, is a tragedy written by
William Shakespeare at an uncertain date between 1599 and 1602. Set in the Kingdom of Denmark,
the play dramatises the revenge Prince Hamlet is instructed to enact on his uncle Claudius. Claudius
had murdered his own brother, Hamlet s father King Hamlet, and subsequently seized the throne,
marrying his deceased brother s widow, Hamlet s mother Gertrude.
Hamlet is Shakespeare s longest play and among the most powerful and influential tragedies in
English literature, with a story capable of seemingly endless retelling and adaptation by others. The
play seems to have been one of Shakespeare s most popular works during his lifetime It has inspired
writers from Goethe and Dickens to Joyce and Murdoch, and has been described as the world s most
filmed story after Cinderella .
The story of Hamlet ultimately derives from the legend of Amleth, preserved by 13th century
chronicler Saxo Grammaticus in his Gesta Danorum, as subsequently retold by ... Show more content

My Appendectomy

finally found out that it was my appendix. In 2014 it was a hot friday summer night, I was at my
friends house about to go to see some type of scary movie at Spartan 16. But, then I felt this shooting
pain to the right side of my abdomen. At first I did not think anything of the pain. I let the pain drag on
for a little while at the movies, but then it felt like someone was stabbing me on the right side of my
abdomen and I could not take the pain anymore. I called my dad crying so hard that he could tell
something was seriously wrong. He knows I am normally a person to have very high pain tolerance.
My dad rushed from whatever he was doing to come pick up from spartan 16. He finally got to me and
rushed me to the Pelham Hospital ER. We finally made it to the Pelham. It felt like one of the longest

The Better Brazilian Butt Lift with Tickle Lipo
What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
One of the fastest growing trends in plastic surgery is the Brazilian Butt Lift. Patients are actively
seeking to get curves in all the right places, and the buttocks are no exception. What is this trendy
plastic surgery procedure anyway?
Brazilian Butt Lift is the nickname for transferring fat from other parts of the body and placing it in
the buttocks. Using liposuction, the surgeon will harvest fat from areas of your body like the abdomen,
waist, and hips to create a smaller midsection. From there, the surgeon will inject your fat into areas of
the buttocks that are flat or where more projection is desired. Brazilian Butt Lift can turn your
stubborn areas of unwanted fat into the hour glass figure many patients desire.
It is important to understand that not all forms of liposuction can be used in the Brazilian Butt Lift
procedure. Liposuction procedures that destroy fat cells cannot be used. For example, laser assisted
liposuction melts and destroys fat cells. Fat cells need to be alive to have a successful outcome when
transferred. Traditional liposuction and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

muscle, on top of the muscle and under the skin. This technique is preferred because the fat cells adapt
to their new environment more effectively, as opposed to just placing all of the volume beneath the
skin. Local anesthesia does not reach all the areas where Dr. Rod is placing fat to the buttocks.
Therefore, Dr. Rod has a Board Certified Anesthesiologist provide twilight sedation to keep patients

The Characteristics Of King Oedipus The King As A Tragedy
Oedipus the King by Sophocles is more than just a basic tragedy. It contains a complete combination
of all the features of a tragedy. I find Sophocles King Oedipus interesting. Not because of the whole
incest thing, the killing of the father, and the sleeping with the mother. I am still too naive to
appreciate the significance of that. I find Sophocles King Oedipus fascinating because as I read it with
attention, I realized how amazingly hard it was to write. Even though it s a Greek tragedy and the
reading is a little hard to understand. But, once someone gets inside the story line, its captivates one s
attention. I admit I enjoy less the content of the play than Sophocles writing skill. When to retell a
well known story, one has to make the story enough convincing without relying on the end of the
story. one must dislocate the point of the story from its end to rest. By doing that the story will not lose
its appeal. One has to be a creator. So, you have to twist the whole story in such an irresistible way
that it is compelling despite the fact that the outcome of the story is known. How do Sophocles solve
this problem? By making King Oedipus the central character and unintentionally the architect of his
own downfall. The strengths that once lead him to solve the riddle later served as his own destruction.
To make a story more appropriate to the stage, which is dealing with flashbacks, forward moving
energy of the story must accommodate with the backward references that

Graffiti Is Bad
Graffiti: A force for evil
Graffiti refers to pictures or words inscribed on public property. It has been around for thousands of
years found in caves to modern buildings. However, several people argue whether modern graffiti is a
force representing good or evil. Graffiti is a negative method of portraying art due to the fact that it
negatively affects people within a community and the community itself, it consumes a lot of a cities
economy, and it is not necessary for it to be produced on public property.
Teenagers and young adults abuse graffiti which negatively impacts a community and the people
living within it, and here is how. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, young
adults...damage property for reasons of boredom, anger or revenge. Others vandalize to show defiance
toward rules, laws and authority or to draw attention to a cause . (6) In other words, teenagers are
wrongly influenced by graffiti and become rebellious towards the law and high authorities. In

However, it is not necessary for people to deface public property. There are alternative resources such
as canvases in which people may produce their art. According to Noel Sanchez, Artists tag both public

affects the taxpayers. In addition, not even art institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in
Los Angeles or the Museum of the City of New York find graffiti attractive on their property and

museums would not consider graffiti attractive if their own property was covered in it, therefore

John Wall s dad was a criminal who had been charged with second degree murder and an armed
robbery multiple times. He was constantly in and out of jail so John hardly saw his father. When John
was just nine years old his father was let out of prison a month before his sentence would have been
concluded, but it wasn t for a good reason. We were drawing pictures of ourselves, eating, enjoying
the beach, John says. It was one of those days you wish your family could have every day, you know,
where things just feel normal . . .Then the next day we heard the ambulance coming. (Espn.com).
Jonathan Carroll Wall Senior had liver cancer and the bands around his liver were beginning to burst.
He was brought into intensive care but could not be saved, at just nine years old John lost his father.
His mom now worked two or sometimes three jobs at a time just to keep her kids alive. After the loss
of his father John was depressed and began getting into fights at school. Overtime the tragedy of John
Carroll Wall s death had settled in. John s mom still worked two jobs but they had figured out their
family life, and it was through basketball (Espn.com). John had figured out a way to overcome his
past childhood and lose all thoughts. Although the times as a kid for him were rough, he now strived
to be the best person and basketball player he can be. A struggling family life

The Clean Power Of The Dominican Republic
Introduction
The Clean Power Company has recently realized that in order to stay in business, they will have to
move the company out of the country to the Dominican Republic. They have already purchased 500
acres of undeveloped land adjacent to the Chavon River. They also plan to build a school to help with
overcrowding and to promote corporate social responsibility with the locals. Furthermore, as part of
the sales agreement, the seller, Teltac Corporation, has agreed to put in roads, septic systems, and
water lines. Teltac, has also informed Clean Power that there should be no problems running these
sewer lines directly into the river as the Chavon River is clean and large and can absorb the waste.
People in the new community feel that this is cause for major concern.
The Clean Power Company has lots of ethical decisions to make. The two main ethical concerns that
arise if Clean Power moves its company: First, how the move will effect the present stake holders (i.e.
the employees, their families, the business partners of Clean Power, and shareholders in Cincinnati).
The second is the effect that the move will have on the environmental and community stakeholders of
the Dominican Republic.
Legal
It would be unlawful for the any company to dump toxic sewage into the Chavon River, or any river
for that matter, by doing such a thing it puts the new community at risk of disease and illness. Also, by
polluting the river, it will contaminate the local environment and wreak havoc

Nikola Tesla Essay
Nikola Tesla was born midnight on July 10, 1856 in Smiljan, Lika, which was then part of the Austo
Hungarian Empire, region of Croatia. His father was named Milutin Tesla and was a Serbian Orthodox
Priest. Djuka Mandic was his mother and was an inventor in her own right of household appliances.
Tesla was the fourth child of five, having one older brother and 3 younger sisters. Tesla studied at the
Realschule, Karlstadt in 1873, the Polytechnic Institute in Graz, Austria and the University of Prague.
At first, he wanted to be specialized in physics and mathematics. But shortly after he became
extremely interested in electricity. He began studying alternating current their also. Supposedly he had
a photographic memory being able to memorize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In New Jersey Tesla went about improving Edison s line of dynamos while working in Edison s lab. It
was here that his variation of opinion with Edison over direct current versus alternating current began.
This disagreement soon became the war of the currents as Edison fought a losing battle to protect his
investment in direct current equipment and facilities. Tesla began pointing out the worthlessness of
Edison s direct current electrical powerhouses that have been building up and down the Atlantic
seaboard. The secret, he felt, lay in the use of alternating current, because to him all energies were
cyclic. Edison s lamps were weak and worthless when supplied by direct current. This system had a
severe disadvantage in that it could not be transported more than two miles due to its incapability to
step up to high voltage levels necessary for long distance transmission. Because of this a direct current
power station was required every two miles. Direct current flows continuously in one direction;
alternating current changes direction fifty or sixty times per second and can be stepped up to vary high
voltage levels, minimizing power loss across great distances. Nikola Tesla developed polyphase
alternating current system of generators, motors and transformers. He held forty basic U.S. patents on
the system, which George Westinghouse bought, wanting to supply America with the Tesla system.
Edison did not want to lose his direct current

Mesozoic Vertebrates
Mesozoic vertebrates of Texas have received less attention than Paleozoic. In the early 1900s E. C.
Case collected and reported amphibians and reptiles found in Triassic sediments along the eastern
edge of the High Plains, and Sankar Chatterjee of Texas Tech University has also made important
discoveries there. Notable are skeletons of phytosaurs. These aquatic reptiles, up to thirty feet in
length, had elongated snouts armed with thick, sharply pointed teeth. Their habits were probably much
like those of modern crocodiles. Some lightly armored forms were not unlike crocodiles in
appearance, except for their long, hook nosed snouts, but some armored types of phytosaurs may have
looked almost like arthropods. Through work centered at the University of Texas at Austin, parts of
the Trans Pecos region have yielded important fossils of Cretaceous reptiles, among them enormous
crocodiles and the largest known pterosaur. Much of Central Texas probably contains bones of
Cretaceous vertebrates, but the land is so heavily vegetated that discoveries are few. However, remains
of dinosaurs, plesiosaurs, and even primitive mammals have been found and are preserved at the
University of Texas and Southern Methodist University. Fossil vertebrates, especially mammals, of the
middle to late Tertiary and Pleistocene ages abound in Texas. Much of the fossil history of horses,
camels, rhinoceroses, and other kinds of both living and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Critical Analysis Of Alexis De Tocqueville s Democracy In...
Throughout the course of the semester, we spent numerous hours as a class learning, analyzing, and
discussing about various tyrannical powers, equality vs inequality, freedom vs enslavement, the visible
dangers of government and society, along with other crucial themes that involve societies back then
till societies today. It was not until we got have way through the semester, that we acknowledged one
philosopher s work more than anyone else s. His name was Alexis De Tocqueville and he was most
notably known for being a French diplomat, a political scientist and a famous historian. We spent over
a quarter of our semester discussing his work Democracy in America because it was possibly one of
the most accurate representations of our culture. Honestly, at first glance I would have disagreed with
most Tocqueville s ideas and opinions. Until, I examined his beliefs further and realized how correct
he was. He managed to pinpoint America s democracy perfectly, along with managing the risk that
come with it. His emphasis throughout the book, is the obliviousness of the American people towards
the negative effects that democracy has on one s culture, while also offering solutions to the problem,
so we can become civilized and humanized people instead of being industrial animals.
In the middle of his novel, Tocqueville makes this major claim I do not say that at the present time
frequent use is made of tyranny in America I say, No guarantee against [tyranny] may be discovered

The Perfect Utopia By George Ripley And His Wife
Throughout the centuries, people have dreamt of perfect worlds. Worlds free from conflict and
unhappiness, in essence, the perfect utopia. Over eighty utopias were attempted in the 1840s. This was
primarily because of the many ideas and movements circulating throughout the nineteenth century
(Dunn). Some of these movements focused on moving towards gender, racial, and social equality.
Others focused on creating more fair and necessary laws. Both types, however, were aiming for the
United States to become a perfect society. This was the basis for the transcendental movement. At the
simplest level, this movement was based on the belief that men and women can learn through intuition
(Gura). Two people who were strong believers in this movement were George Ripley and his wife,
Sophia Willard Dana Ripley. The Ripley s decided to create what they believed to be a utopia in
Western Roxbury, or modern day Boston (Smith). They named this community The Brook Farm
Institute for Agriculture and Education, or Brook Farm. Brook Farm was one of the countless
experiments trying to create a utopian society in the United States around the time of 1830 (Gordon).
George Ripley was a member of the Transcendental Club. This was a group of ministers who met
regularly to discuss their views on social changes. Soon after the group was formed, Ripley resigned
from his position in the club and left the ministry. He stayed at his friend s farm for two summers and
then made the decision to purchase

The Importance Of Crime And Punishment
The system is wrong and different from us. There are many ways to reason through the correct course
of action involving human punishment for crime. Crime is considered negative in society. During
biblical times crime is not only affected society, but it was believed to have also been directed towards
God himself. The Bible is the oldest book to reference with many directives to living life peacefully
and without revenge (StudyMode crime and punishment). The problems arise when the time comes to
punish a criminal. There are disagreements over the severity of a crime, the mentality of the criminal,
and the correct penalty that should result from that crime among other things. Immanuel Kant has a
few fundamental ideas about how society should think and behave. Among his ideas is the way to deal
with crime and approach punishment. Kant believed in the idea of Retributivism. He felt that one
should pay for the crime that they committed in a way equivalent to the crime, whereas like the nation
of Seecebeesia utilitarian may also take the position that criminals should be rehabilitated rather than
necessarily punished for the crime, since many criminals have a questionable state of mind (2008,
Philosophical Approach to Crime and Punishment). Also in the bible Matthew 5:38 states, You have
heard that it has been said, eye for eye and tooth for tooth . It explains that the punishment should fit
the crime. If criminals know that there is going to be a punishment, and what that

  • 2. Errors In The Alamo Movie The Alamo was one of the most important events in settling the land in the western part of the country. There are several movies about it but The Alamo 1960 is the movie used for this paper. This film did an okay job depicting what really happened in that two week siege from February 23, 1836 to March 6, 1836, so there were some historical errors in the movie. A couple of the errors in the movie is that the actual battle of the Alamo was fought at dawn when the enemies were asleep. Another was how the Mexican forces were shown as the ones that wanted the battle but in reality, they were the ones that were protecting what was theirs already. There were also some inaccuracies with individual characters and event leading up to the battle were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the movie, Colonel Fanin s men were killed before the battle. But in reality, they were killed after the battle so the only real reasonable way they never made it is because they didn t bring any supply wagons. Another error comes from one of the dresses that Susannah Dickinson wore, the dress has a zipper, it s not possible for her to have one on her dress since zipper weren t invented until 1914 and even after that they were never used on dresses until the late 1930s. Another factual mistake is how Bowie got a letter that his wife had died while he was away in the movie but in real life she had died in 1833 and the battle was in 1836. In real life, it was her sister that came and accompanied Bowie during his battle with the Mexicans. In the movie, Jim Bowie is hurt during the battle by an explosion and he shown trying to recover in a room on the bed. But in real life he wasn t injured in an explosion he was trying to get well from an illness that symptoms that he showed made it be believed that he had pneumonia, tuberculosis, or typhoid. • 3. The Agricultural Revolution And The Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution is where the production of machine made goods increased greatly. This took place in the 1700s in England. Before the Industrial Revolution happened these goods were produced handmade. I think the agricultural revolution was a pretty big part of the Industrial Revolution. The agricultural revolution had a couple key parts. The first one is crop rotation which increase food supplies and living conditions for the people in England. They were able to plant a whole field of something and the next year be able to plant the same field with a whole new crop. Another key point is the wealthy landowners took the land from the villagers which allowed them to make larger fields called enclosures. With having these enclosures it allowed the owners to try many different ways to plant their food. Jethro Tull was a scientific farmer who realized that planting seed by throwing it out didn t get all of the seed to grow. He thought it was wasteful so he decided to create the seed drill in 1701. The seed drill let the farmers put the seed in perfectly spaced rows at certain depths. This invention boosted the crops in a pretty big way. Without these advancements in agriculture the industrial revolution wouldn t have been the way it was. The agriculture revolution treated many different ways to more efficiently make more crops and what the industrial revolution is, is the output of machine made goods. With these new advancements you can create many more machine made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Marie Antoinette And Louis Xvi It is known by many that all actions have equal and opposite reactions which is perfectly displayed in the history of the French Revolution. By the actions of growing up, Marie Antoinette had nothing to worry about as she was the heiress to the Austrian land. Married off at 15 to Louis XVI, she was given the responsibility of ruling France a much bigger country alongside her husband. Now she had more money and a husband that would do anything for her so she uses that to her advantage. Louis was a simple and innocent man; therefore Marie was able to easily influence his decisions. Both husband and wife did not really care about the welfare of their country and the people, which led to the citizens revolting. Marie Antoinette used all the money she wanted without thinking of the consequences. Marie and Louis governed their country with absolute power and no one could stop them or interfere with their expenses. Together Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI were able to destroy their country which provokes the people to want more for themselves and their country. Their actions and decisions built up anger in the people which later resulted in the French Revolution and the execution of both King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette contributed to the French Revolution by ruled the country in an absolute monarchy, forcing the people to be divided into classes, and leading the country to a financial crisis which instigated the people to start a ... • 8. A Study On Renal Cancer Adrianna Dunn Professor Riggs English Composition 1 Due: 11 December 2014 Renal Cancer It is the one word that can send chills and tremors up anyone s back, because in one word alone everything can change. Cancer, a word that in itself holds so many questions, thoughts, fears, and worries. There are over 100 different types of cancer; however all cancers begin because abnormal cells grow out of control. Normal cells follow a pattern: they grow, divide, and die. Cancer cells grow differently than normal cells. Instead of dying, the cells reproduce more abnormal cells. Cancer cells are also very distinct in the fact that they can grow into other tissues, normal cells cannot do this. The deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is in every cell, it is what directs all the cell s actions. In normal cells, when DNA gets destroyed the cell either dies or repairs itself; in cancer cells, however, the cell goes on making new cells that the body has no use for. The new cells now have the same abnormal DNA as the first cell. If cancer cells penetrate the blood stream or lymph vessels they can easily spread and attack other areas of the body. Today, hundreds of thousands of people are fighting or have fought cancer. Over one half of all men and one third of all women will develop cancer during their lifetime. It is safe to say that almost every person has been affected by cancer in some way, shape, or form. Cancer in itself is the modern day epidemic much like the black plaque was during its era. ... • 10. My Experience At The Omaha Airport It was a freezing day in Omaha, Nebraska. I sat in a chair overlooking the blizzard clad window of my studio apartment. After coming to Omaha just a few weeks ago, I had been through a horrific car accident, narrowly missing any injury. Earlier, I had been stranded at the Omaha airport due to another blizzard. I had to walk to the nearest bus stop, with all my bags, during a snowstorm. Having lived in the tropical Mumbai and then the humid, subtropical Raleigh, North Carolina, the frigid Omaha wind chilled my bones and my resolve. As I looked through the window, reflecting on myself and my career, my first thoughts were of my parents . I am the only child of my highly educated parents. They were worried and wanted me to return to India. It was tempting to quit. But I asked myself: Why am I here and what am I trying to achieve? The years of my childhood rolled by. I was reminded of Saidu and Rohan. Saidu lived in a small shack near our home and did odd jobs for us. His family, poor and uneducated, lived in a village far away. He had come to Mumbai by himself to make a living. He worked at ten different homes every day and burned the midnight oil to finish high school. Rohan was one of my neighborhood friends. • 11. Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell Nineteen Eighty Four written by George Orwell is a dystopian novel set in a fictional totalitarian state of Oceania, where the brainwashed citizens are under constant surveillance, and public mind control dictated by Big Brother, the Party leader. Thus, any independent thought by any individual or group would severely be punished by the state as a Thought Crime . Punishments could be severe ranging from reeducation and torture to vaporization meaning death. Around the same year of the publication of Nineteen Eighty Four, coincidently, a Soviet trained guerrilla fighter named Kim Il Sung became the founder of a new country the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. Following the Korean War, Kim Il Sung successfully created the world s most impenetrable cult of personality, which succeeds on to his grandson, Kim Jon Un s generation and continues its dictatorial regime today. There is no way of avoiding the incalculable numbers of billboards and posters with military slogans and propaganda. Throughout the nation, television sets are hardwired to receive a single signal, broadcast by the state. Thus, each households and public places are installed with cameras and wiretaps surveilling any individuals against the leader and its Party s policies will be terminated along with the future family members. • 13. Figurative Blindness In Oedipus The King Although blindness and sight seem diametrically opposed, they are more similar to each other than it would seem. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex, the relationship between figurative blindness and literal blindness is portrayed. In the play, figurative blindness is what Oedipus has as he does not understand his parentage and the prophecy of his doom. Literal blindness is what Teiresias has suffered with his whole life. Sophocles proves in the play that figurative blindness is far more harmful than literal blindness due to the unwarranted sense of control that sight gives him. Oedipus, even though he can see with his own eyes, is completely clueless to what is happening around him in Thebes. First of all, he thinks his parents are Polybus and Merope of Corinth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This illustrates the pattern of blindness that is prevalent throughout Greek plays. Literal vision is clearly seen as not helpful unless you can actually see what is going on. Oedipus s figurative sight comes from his understanding of his true parentage. And for him, receiving true sight necessitates shaking off the distractions of literal vision. The second important problem with Oedipus s sight is that it gives him a sense of control and a strong feeling of arrogance. First of all, Oedipus questions the blind prophet Teiresias about why the plague is devastating Thebes. Oedipus forensically questions Teiresias like he understands what is happening, when that is clearly inaccurate and in fact very ironic. Oedipus says very ironically to Teiresias, You sightless, witless, senseless, mad old man (Perrine 1238). In reality, it is Oedipus who lacks sight and sense and Teiresias who possesses these in abundance. Oedipus talks in the language of rational inquiry, of the courts and of those new sciences that were already displacing the theologically based sciences that were already ... As well as the questions which are raised about the size of the sample that was used, it is also necessary to point out the lack of detail present concerning how the sample was chosen. Andrew s reflective experiences several years after they occurred surely cannot be as valid as for example, a sample of children displaying twice exceptional abilities within schools at the time of commencing the research. Perhaps Morrison and Omdal had valid reasons for choosing Andrew as their lone participant, but this detail is missing from their study. There is no evidence either to suggest whether Andrew was de briefed about the nature of this study, which could prove significant with regard to his responses to the interview questions, especially as he talks with such fervour about his experiences. Since they only had one participant for this research, an interview was an appropriate method to gain access to Andrew s experiences in school and in the community. The current bear market defined as a fall of 20% or more from a peak is the 27th that investors have suffered in the past 25 years. It is the 21st worst in terms of losses . Since opening up its market to foreign trade and free market returns in 1979, China has been one of the fastest growing economies, with GDP growth averaging nearly 10% through 2014. China is a major global economic leader, and is the world s largest economy (purchasing power), manufacturer, merchandise trader, and holder of foreign exchange reserves . The economic financial crisis in 2008 had a large impact on China s economy. Growth slowed, exports declined, and millions lost jobs. During the last election, it s safe to say even when you re not watching the news daily, we still heard new stories every day about the canidates. As for he travel experience as the reference for the door, the style of the door combines the format of the Early Christian type with the medium of Carolingian examples, for instance, the juxtaposed narratives of the Old and new Testaments on the door. The example could be the entire absence of the Creation of Eve. Moreover, the style of Eve and Adam also implies that Bernware tries to convey perils of seductive women. • 23. Dawson Mcallister Gender Stereotypes Gender Stereotypes The issue of gender stereotypes is a complex one. When people think about this problem, they think that men and women have to have certain roles in society. The gender stereotype that women are more emotional than men is a very common gender stereotype that is a problem in our society. This stereotype was most common around 1952, yet the stereotype still occurs today through the media. Judging a women to be the more emotional gender is bad for society because it shapes the woman into being that stereotype. Even though the stereotype that women are more emotional than men is often portrayed through society and the media, men are just as emotional as women. In particular, men can get more emotional than women after a breakup. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This stereotype is presented in The Hopeline by Dawson McAllister who writes about how and why women are more emotional than men. The article states, Women are more prone to talk about what they are thinking and feeling, and to demonstrate how they are feeling with their tears, facial expressions, hand gestures, and body language (McAllister 8). After taking time to analyze the evidence, McAllister is false because even though women often show their emotions, men are more emotional deep down, but are not willing to show it. According to Elite Daily by Paul Hudson, he states that, In this study, conducted by neurologists at Mindlab, men are actually much more sensitive than women when it comes to being presented with emotional stimuli... Boys are taught to be ashamed of the emotions that they experience, so they grow into men who are both emotional confused and in denial... Don t cry. Don t pout. Don t complain Be a man an emotionless, stubborn man (Hudson 13). As can be seen in the evidence, men have a bigger reaction to stimuli. Furthermore, while men are taught to hide their feelings, women are taught to share their emotions with others, and this causes men to tend to be more emotional. This encourages US citizens and businesses to stake a claim on the plot of land and patent the claim for about $5 per acre. From strip mining, subsurface mining to open pit, placer, and mountaintop mining. Strip mining is a process where layers of surface soil and rock are removed and exposed. The Era Of America After The Antebellum Period It is believed that the beginning of a task is often the most important as well as the most difficult, because it consists of discovering the basis to success with a greater chance of failure. The establishment of America after gaining independence from Great Britain relied heavily on the foundations set during the antebellum period, which is often classified as the period of time before the civil war. During such vital time in American history came a number of fundamental Supreme Court cases. The outcome of various cases significantly shaped the future of America into the country we know today. Perhaps some of the most important cases include Marbury v. Madison, Gibbons v. Ogden, and Dred Scott v. Sandford. McCulloch v. Maryland is possibly the most prominent Supreme Court case throughout the antebellum period that occurred in 1819, even though different interpretations of the Necessary and Proper Clause have led to many controversies regarding its meaning and the potential supreme authority of congress, this landmark case established that the federal government has certain implied powers under the constitution. Primarily, individuals who supported the National Bank argued that the bank was essential in regulating the money distributed by state banks. As has been the case in nearly every nation where firearms registration has been introduced, registration proved a preamble to confiscation. Excused from the confiscation order, however, were affiliates of the Communist Party. A 1920 decree imposed a obligatory minimum penalty of six months in prison for non Communist possession of a firearm, even where there was no felonious intent. After the Red triumph in the Civil War, the firearm laws were consolidated in a Criminal Code, which if broken, unauthorized possession of a firearm would be punishable by rigid labor. Faulkner begins this story with Miss Emily s funeral, and continues to tell about the interesting events in her life. All throughout the story, Miss Emily exhibits many traits of a mentally ill person, but is never medically diagnosed. Faulkner writes, Miss Emily had been a tradition, a duty, and a care (245), meaning that she stuck to her Southern raised ways. She refused to conform to the modernization of the world around her. The narrator of this story seems to be a person that knows Miss Emily and her family very intimately. The narrator also considers themselves apart of the townspeople referred to as the we throughout the story. This story tells about the ups and downs in the extremely intriguing life of a woman that refuses to leave her past. After her death, the whole town went to her funeral: the men through a sort of respectful affection for a fallen monument, the women mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her house (Faulkner 244). No one had been into her home in at least a decade except for the workers. Faulkner uses imagery to describe the big, squarish framed house that had once been white (244). Therefore, nursing is both an art and a science that have derived concepts that leads to further research, new theories and evidence based practice (Walker amp; Avant, 2011). Influences on Nursing Holistic care is the hallmark of nursing practice. It is said that to treat disease we must look at the whole person, spiritually, physically and psychologically. The classical definition of holism is that people are multidimensional. They are interacting wholes and more than the sum of their parts (Hancock, 2000). Focusing on holistic care when planning new developments and writing guidelines or policies is all to the good but is only meaningful if patients perceive that they receive holistic care from the staff with whom they have contact (Willis, 2002). Patients who receive holistic care may respond better to treatment because they perceive their whole being as being cared for. I find Sophocles King Oedipus interesting. Not because of the whole incest thing, the killing of the father, and the sleeping with the mother. I am still too naive to appreciate the significance of that. I find Sophocles King Oedipus fascinating because as I read it with attention, I realized how amazingly hard it was to write. Even though it s a Greek tragedy and the reading is a little hard to understand. But, once someone gets inside the story line, its captivates one s attention. I admit I enjoy less the content of the play than Sophocles writing skill. When to retell a well known story, one has to make the story enough convincing without relying on the end of the story. one must dislocate the point of the story from its end to rest. By doing that the story will not lose its appeal. One has to be a creator. So, you have to twist the whole story in such an irresistible way that it is compelling despite the fact that the outcome of the story is known. How do Sophocles solve this problem? By making King Oedipus the central character and unintentionally the architect of his own downfall. The strengths that once lead him to solve the riddle later served as his own destruction. • 43. The Clean Power Of The Dominican Republic Introduction The Clean Power Company has recently realized that in order to stay in business, they will have to move the company out of the country to the Dominican Republic. They have already purchased 500 acres of undeveloped land adjacent to the Chavon River. They also plan to build a school to help with overcrowding and to promote corporate social responsibility with the locals. Furthermore, as part of the sales agreement, the seller, Teltac Corporation, has agreed to put in roads, septic systems, and water lines. Teltac, has also informed Clean Power that there should be no problems running these sewer lines directly into the river as the Chavon River is clean and large and can absorb the waste. People in the new community feel that this is cause for major concern. The Clean Power Company has lots of ethical decisions to make. The two main ethical concerns that arise if Clean Power moves its company: First, how the move will effect the present stake holders (i.e. the employees, their families, the business partners of Clean Power, and shareholders in Cincinnati). The second is the effect that the move will have on the environmental and community stakeholders of the Dominican Republic. Legal It would be unlawful for the any company to dump toxic sewage into the Chavon River, or any river for that matter, by doing such a thing it puts the new community at risk of disease and illness. Also, by polluting the river, it will contaminate the local environment and wreak havoc ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In New Jersey Tesla went about improving Edison s line of dynamos while working in Edison s lab. It was here that his variation of opinion with Edison over direct current versus alternating current began. This disagreement soon became the war of the currents as Edison fought a losing battle to protect his investment in direct current equipment and facilities. Tesla began pointing out the worthlessness of Edison s direct current electrical powerhouses that have been building up and down the Atlantic seaboard. The secret, he felt, lay in the use of alternating current, because to him all energies were cyclic. Edison s lamps were weak and worthless when supplied by direct current. This system had a severe disadvantage in that it could not be transported more than two miles due to its incapability to step up to high voltage levels necessary for long distance transmission. Because of this a direct current power station was required every two miles. Direct current flows continuously in one direction; alternating current changes direction fifty or sixty times per second and can be stepped up to vary high voltage levels, minimizing power loss across great distances. Nikola Tesla developed polyphase alternating current system of generators, motors and transformers. He held forty basic U.S. patents on the system, which George Westinghouse bought, wanting to supply America with the Tesla system. Edison did not want to lose his direct current ... • 45. Mesozoic Vertebrates Mesozoic vertebrates of Texas have received less attention than Paleozoic. In the early 1900s E. C. Case collected and reported amphibians and reptiles found in Triassic sediments along the eastern edge of the High Plains, and Sankar Chatterjee of Texas Tech University has also made important discoveries there. Notable are skeletons of phytosaurs. These aquatic reptiles, up to thirty feet in length, had elongated snouts armed with thick, sharply pointed teeth. Their habits were probably much like those of modern crocodiles. Some lightly armored forms were not unlike crocodiles in appearance, except for their long, hook nosed snouts, but some armored types of phytosaurs may have looked almost like arthropods. Through work centered at the University of Texas at Austin, parts of the Trans Pecos region have yielded important fossils of Cretaceous reptiles, among them enormous crocodiles and the largest known pterosaur. Much of Central Texas probably contains bones of Cretaceous vertebrates, but the land is so heavily vegetated that discoveries are few. However, remains of dinosaurs, plesiosaurs, and even primitive mammals have been found and are preserved at the University of Texas and Southern Methodist University. Fossil vertebrates, especially mammals, of the middle to late Tertiary and Pleistocene ages abound in Texas. • 46. Critical Analysis Of Alexis De Tocqueville s Democracy In... Throughout the course of the semester, we spent numerous hours as a class learning, analyzing, and discussing about various tyrannical powers, equality vs inequality, freedom vs enslavement, the visible dangers of government and society, along with other crucial themes that involve societies back then till societies today. It was not until we got have way through the semester, that we acknowledged one philosopher s work more than anyone else s. His name was Alexis De Tocqueville and he was most notably known for being a French diplomat, a political scientist and a famous historian. We spent over a quarter of our semester discussing his work Democracy in America because it was possibly one of the most accurate representations of our culture. Honestly, at first glance I would have disagreed with most Tocqueville s ideas and opinions. Until, I examined his beliefs further and realized how correct he was. He managed to pinpoint America s democracy perfectly, along with managing the risk that come with it. His emphasis throughout the book, is the obliviousness of the American people towards the negative effects that democracy has on one s culture, while also offering solutions to the problem, so we can become civilized and humanized people instead of being industrial animals. In the middle of his novel, Tocqueville makes this major claim I do not say that at the present time frequent use is made of tyranny in America I say, No guarantee against [tyranny] may be discovered ... • 47. The Perfect Utopia By George Ripley And His Wife Throughout the centuries, people have dreamt of perfect worlds. Worlds free from conflict and unhappiness, in essence, the perfect utopia. Over eighty utopias were attempted in the 1840s. This was primarily because of the many ideas and movements circulating throughout the nineteenth century (Dunn). Some of these movements focused on moving towards gender, racial, and social equality. Others focused on creating more fair and necessary laws. Both types, however, were aiming for the United States to become a perfect society. This was the basis for the transcendental movement. At the simplest level, this movement was based on the belief that men and women can learn through intuition (Gura). Two people who were strong believers in this movement were George Ripley and his wife, Sophia Willard Dana Ripley. The Ripley s decided to create what they believed to be a utopia in Western Roxbury, or modern day Boston (Smith). They named this community The Brook Farm Institute for Agriculture and Education, or Brook Farm. Brook Farm was one of the countless experiments trying to create a utopian society in the United States around the time of 1830 (Gordon). George Ripley was a member of the Transcendental Club. This was a group of ministers who met regularly to discuss their views on social changes. Soon after the group was formed, Ripley resigned from his position in the club and left the ministry. He stayed at his friend s farm for two summers and then made the decision to purchase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. The Importance Of Crime And Punishment The system is wrong and different from us. There are many ways to reason through the correct course of action involving human punishment for crime. Crime is considered negative in society. During biblical times crime is not only affected society, but it was believed to have also been directed towards God himself. The Bible is the oldest book to reference with many directives to living life peacefully and without revenge (StudyMode crime and punishment). The problems arise when the time comes to punish a criminal. There are disagreements over the severity of a crime, the mentality of the criminal, and the correct penalty that should result from that crime among other things. Immanuel Kant has a few fundamental ideas about how society should think and behave. Among his ideas is the way to deal with crime and approach punishment. Kant believed in the idea of Retributivism. He felt that one should pay for the crime that they committed in a way equivalent to the crime, whereas like the nation of Seecebeesia utilitarian may also take the position that criminals should be rehabilitated rather than necessarily punished for the crime, since many criminals have a questionable state of mind (2008, Philosophical Approach to Crime and Punishment). Also in the bible Matthew 5:38 states, You have heard that it has been said, eye for eye and tooth for tooth . It explains that the punishment should fit the crime. If criminals know that there is going to be a punishment, and what that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
