Chinese Immigrants During The 19th Century
Chinese Immigrants Introduction During the 18th to 20th century, the Chinese people faced many
obstacles. Many would come in to America seeking education, work, and to get away from the famine.
When they came, there got more than they bargained for. Abundant of Chinese immigrants came to
American in three different time periods. They first came in 1849 1882 when they heard of the gold
being found in California. The second wave of Chinese immigrants came in 1882 1965. And the last
one would be in 1965 to now, present day. 1849 1882 The first wave of Chinese immigrants came
because of the great economic depression. Great Britain and china have just finished a 4 year war that
devastated china economically. The Chinese people had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 19th century the Chinese immigrants worked in factories that help boost the growing
industry of America. While the civil war took place, the Chinese people worked in wool mills, cigar,
shoe, and garment industries specifically in California. The Chinese people also played a major role in
the building of the railroad from the east to the west. The Chinese people would also work in gold
mines in California and in Hawaii as contract laborers on sugarcane plantations. They would also play
small roles in the communities as merchants, gardeners, domestics, laundry workers, and farmers. .
The Chinese people also played a major role in the building of the railroad from the east to the west.
Approximately about 15,000 Chinese people were employed by the The Central Pacific Railroad
Company to build the Transcontinental Railroad. The Chinese were willing to get paid lower wages
then regular workers. Working on the railroad required them to endure many hazardous conditions.
Communities were created along the Transcontinental Railroad, Chinese men would open their own
business and do jobs that woman would mostly do such as caring for children,

Elephant Behavior
Asian elephants are large and gray. They inhabit tropical forests. They can camouflage their gray color
in shady areas to conceal themselves against predators. These elephants have long trunks, allowing
them to reach the ground, squirt water over their backs or into their mouths, and blow dirt onto their
backs during dust baths. Male elephants often have visible tusks whereas females, such as those in
northeast India, do not. Surprisingly, elephants have large padded feet that enable them to walk with
minimal noise. Large, flappable ears help them cool off. however, they will overheat if they cannot get
to a shaded area during the hottest part of the day.
Scientists are able to study elephant behavior using their trails. This includes female interactions, cow
and calf relationships, bull ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority of the species take a part in activities such as complex communication, teaching,
greeting ceremonies, courtship, and communal care. Females often have very close relationships with
other females. The majority of them stay together their entire lives and care for each other. Asian
elephants have also been known to stay behind with a sick or injured herd mate. This is a trait many
humans admire and strive to resemble.
Lack of mating and deforestation have caused a major decline of these beautiful creatures. In 1900, an
estimated 100,000 Asian elephants existed. Now, over half of the population has been lost. Scientists
predict they will become extinct by 2025. That is less than ten years away.
Before industrialization, Asian elephants roamed most of Asia. Due to deforestation and the loss of
their supplies for human use, only 15% of that space is still available to them. Elephants from different
regions are restricted to different areas. For example, the Indian elephant has a larger amount of land
to roam than the Sri Lankan. Sumatran elephants have lost 70% of their habitat due to human

Honduras have dangerous roads, with forests that on the mountain slopes. According to World Book,
Forests of oak and pines cover slopes below 7,000 feet (2,100 meters). Another fact is there are

Conflict In Inherit The Wind
People often believe teachers, friends, and parents are the ones that teach them the most in life.
Although this may be true, a work of literature can also teach a person many valuable life lessons that
no one else can. In a work of literature, all themes connect to one significant lesson. Lawrence and
Lee s Inherit The Wind has rich themes that demonstrate the world resist change. One important theme
is to always be open minded. Equally important, is the theme that differences can tear people apart.
Not to mention, freedom of thought is also a critical theme. Therefore, themes in Inherit The Wind
shows the struggle of change to occur. Firstly, to always be open minded is an influential message sent
by the writer that contributes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is revealed through Drummond s arguments for Bert throughout the trail. For instance,
Drummond s point for mentioning a sponges right to think is explained when he states, This man
wishes to be accorded the same privileges as a sponge! He wishes to think! (Lawrence and Lee 94).
Drummond is fighting on Bert s behalf to have the ability to think. Hillsboro is refusing to let Bert
think and teach what he knows because they are hesitant towards transition. Additionally. Freedom of
thought is also demonstrated through Rachel s struggling journey towards independence meanwhile
resistance is shown. For example, Rachel finally starts to think for herself when she says, You see, I
haven t really though very much. I was always afraid of what I might think so it seemed safer not to
think at all. But now I know. A thought is like a child inside our body It has to be born (Lawrence and
Lee 124). Certainly, these words Rachel expresses shows that she finally realized she has the ability to
think and explains why she was so resistant towards thinking about evolution. Due to these reasons,
Drummond s representation for Bert, and Rachel both illustrate freedom of thought and supports the
fact that people will always resist

Comparing Millers And Reeve s Tale
The Millers and Reeve s tale are a lot like a typical sports rivalry. A real life example of the strife
between the two men, is the Prep vs. La Salle tug of war. The schools are almost identical in beliefs
and the way they are run, but the tension between the hawks and the explorers is beyond any normal
rivalry. Just like how the resentment between the Miller and the Reeve is not just some normal
disagreement. Although the Miller and the Reeve have contrasting, distinct looks about them, they are
not much different. They are both working class men on the same pilgrimage with the same view of
each other. The Miller was your emblematic jock. He weighed in at a husky 224 pounds or sixteen

not even truly directed towards the Reeve. The Reeve is the one who makes it about himself. The

and even deals with the topic of rape. It just seems like the Reeve made up his tale just as a comeback
for the Miller. It was pathetic and malicious. They also differ in the way the protagonists end up after
they find out what is going on. The carpenter is just called crazy, while as the Miller is beaten and

How Does Stanley Show Perseverance In Holes By Louis Sachar
Holes
Louis Sachar
Isaiah Twomey Have you ever had bad luck? Have you ever wondered why nothing goes the way you
want it to go? Why is it happening to me? Well in the book Holes by Louis Sachar, Stanley asks those
questions on a daily basis. Stanley was wrongly accused of stealing sneakers, he then has to go to
court and is punished by going to a dried up lake digging holes for what he thinks digging for nothing
and digging for the reason of building character but what they don t is that they are actually digging to
find treasure for the greedy staff of Green Lake. Stanley then finds a friend named Zero (Hector
Zeroni). These two friends go through many situations together in this book showing perseverance a

So Stanley is showing overcoming failure by carrying Zero up the hill (God s Thumb), which his great
great grandfather failed to do. A long time ago Stanley s grandfather wanted a pig from a woman to
impress another woman to find love, but the deal was that Stanley s grandfather had to carry the pig
up God s thumb every day to feed it and let it have a drink, and after the pig got to big the man had to
carry the woman he got the pig from up the hill so she could have a drink, and if he failed to do this,
himself and all of his family would be cursed with bad luck for the rest of eternity, which he did, he
failed to carry the woman up the hill. But Stanley broke this curse because the woman his grandfather
got the pig from was a woman from the Zeroni family, and so was Zero, so when zero got sick Stanley
carried Zero up the hill and broke the curse. I can prove that overcoming failure is part of this book
with this quote, C,mon Zero wake up, Fine i ll carry you up the hill. (Sachar, Chap

I was not there, yet I was there. No, I did not go to the trial, I did not hear the verdict, because I knew

captivating and explosive first paragraph. Immediately capturing the reader s attention, the fast paced
novel takes us on a voyage of thematic discovery. Through the voice of Grant Wiggins, a school

Grant undoubtedly fears having to take the entire scope of racism on his shoulders alone, knowing that
a fatal collapse would be the result. Grant fiercely displays his anguish in a conversation with his
Aunt:
Everything you sent me to school for, you re stripping me of it, I told my aunt. They were looking at
the fire, and I stood behind them with the bag of food. The humiliation I had to go through, going in
that man s kitchen. The hours I had to wait while they ate and drank and socialized before they would
even see me. Now going up to that jail. To watch them put their dirty hands on that food. To search my
body each time as if I m some kind of common criminal. Maybe today they ll want to look into my
mouth, or my nostrils, or make me strip. Anything to humiliate me. All the things you wanted me to
escape by going to school. (79)
During his emotional spill, Grant resorts to the maniacal thought that his aunt has something to do
with the racism he experiences. Ironically, it is the seemingly racist words of Jefferson s defense
attorney that fuels the spectrum of the novel, and the eventual salvation of both Jefferson and Grant.
A chief theme of the novel is commented upon by Grant himself. During a memorable speech given to
Vivian, he adamantly explains that a vicious cycle of male abandonment has taken place in

Persuasive Essay On Kangaroos
Good Afternoon
Australia s most iconic marsupial, the Kangaroo, holds a place on our coat arms, currency, severe
sports teams and is our main attraction for tourists, who believe we ride Kangaroos to school.
However, the overpopulation of the animal has led to a long and exasperating debate of whether
Kangaroo s should be culled or harvested .
Culling is commonly referred to the as reducing a population by selective slaughter. It sounds quiet
inhumane when you put it that way, however Kangaroo overpopulation has become a huge issue in
recent years.
While Kangaroos are native Australian animals, they are overpopulated and are a threat to the
environment. In an editorial, published by The Herald Sun, it was estimated that there were about ...

According to the Herald Sun a humane cull is far preferable to a slow death through starvation. It is
more inhumane to condemn these animals to a slow and painful death, than to control the Kangaroo
population in a way that is quick and causes minimal pain.
During a Queensland drought, it was reported by the ABC that a council worker, Chad McLachlan
would drag out roos every morning from underneath buildings, machines or other recreation centres,
due to starvation. Overpopulation of Kangaroos means that they won t have enough bush land to live
on, therefore many Kangaroos will starve to death in a slow manner. Now that is cruel.
The process of becoming a Kangaroo harvester is a lengthy one. The harvesters must undergo training
which is followed by a license. They must adhere to the strict guidelines laid out in the Federal
Government document Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos , which was created
by the help of the RSPCA.
Although, overpopulation is one of the main reasons to harvest Kangaroos, one of the many benefits
of Kangaroo culling include Australia s economy boost. Kangaroos could form the basis of an
extended meat and leather production industry in

Essay on A Call for Uniforms at PenArgyl High School
As stated in the Morning Call on January 11, 2013, Uniforms will reduce bullying, teasing and
disruption while also being a cheaper alternative for poor parents who struggle every year to afford
new school clothes for their children (Esack). Much like the Allentown Area School District,
incorporating uniforms needs to be a priority for Pen Argyl High School. Not only will students have
better attendance once uniforms are required, but one can also expect school achievement to increase.

Overall, if uniform wearing was an required component of Pen Argyl High School, student priorities
would be focused on the more appropriate topic of academics rather than the fad of fashion trends;
leading to more student awareness and less bullying, or attention to student clothing, throughout the
school day. In addition to the apparent bullying over style trends and choices, another issue that could
be eliminated through the incorporation of uniforms is the lessening of disciplinary action directed
towards students for dress code violations. Almost daily, students are sent to the office for dress code
checks which are most often handled by the Vice Principal. Students are commonly sent for checks
based on the following items that are considered questionable: midriff revealing tops, ripped and low
rise jeans, short skirts and shorts, exposed shoulders and necklines and spandex for the girls. Then
there are ill fitting jeans and inappropriate slogans on t shirts and sweatshirts for the boys. A uniform
policy would eliminate the need for dress code checks, which would enable the vice principal to
concentrate on more important issues within the high school. Not only would uniforms eliminate this
disciplinary issue of student dress, but the incorporation of a uniform policy would better prepare

Women, Oppression, And Treatment Of Young Girls And Women...
From the moment the first American settlers stepped off their musty ship and laid foot on the fertile
soil which makes up our great nation, women in America have almost always been seen as inferior
when compared to their male counterparts. What s more, Americans have a rich history in oppressing
those we deem to be lesser. In terms of women, this oppression has taken on many forms throughout
the years. From not being able to go to school to receive a proper education, to being denied suffrage,
to being criticized for how they look or what they wear, women have encountered obstacles that men
can sometimes only imagine. We as a nation have a defining past in which women were, and
sometimes still are, expected to look or act in a manner defined as appropriate by men and even by
each other. Nowadays, it seems as though we are attempting to compensate for the years of
mistreatment by sending positive messages of acceptance to young girls and women alike. However,
while one half of the population is being praised for their uniqueness, there is still another half who
are being left to fend for themselves in the shadows. Men and boys, though always perceived as the
strong and indestructible members of society, are not given the same encouraging spotlight as women
and girls. We live in a world where problems related to self image and self worth are gender neutral;
they do not merely seek to harm a single sex. Why then, does society typically only remind women
how truly special they

The Battle Of The Crusades In The Song Of Roland
In the epic poem, The Song of Roland the tale depicts the Battle at Rencevaux in which the
protagonist is betrayed and serves as a martyr to justify the Crusades. The Crusades were a medieval
military expedition by the Roman Catholics to purge the Muslims from the Holy Land. With this
definition of the Crusades, one can conclude that the Song of Roland should not be considered apart of
the Crusades as the poem s context is historically inaccurate, written long after the events, and lacks a
credible source. Instead, this depiction should just be considered as a folk tale that was used to drive
the crusaders to keep fighting. The story of heroism in this poem was no doubt a motivational tool that
inspired soldiers to persevere and uproot the Muslims from the Holy Land. The Song of Roland dates
back to early 12th century, in the midst of the Crusades. The original battle was called the Battle of
Roncevaux Pass which took place in 778 AD, long before the epic poem dates back to. For one to
even consider this poem as the first battle of the Crusades the poem would have be written relatively
soon after the battle. Some scholars speculate that the poem was written around the time that the battle
took place but there is no evidence to support their theory as the only written copies date back
between 1129 and 1165 AD. These dates place the written poem in the middle of the Crusades.
Furthermore, this strengthens the idea that the poem is not a accurate description of what actually
happened on that day. Instead, this epic poem was written for another purpose, the purpose of
inspiring the current knights of the glory and honor that can be gained from this Holy War. With the
date of the Song of Roland being nearly four hundred years after the actual battle one could see the
potential problems with the details of the story. Having no previous records, experts aren t sure
whether the epic poem was changed on purpose, or if parts of it were forgotten. Although the tale
conveys a sense of heroism and pride, it there are many details that are historically inaccurate. For
example, in the Song of Roland , the author describes the opposing forces as Saracens . This term
Saracen is used by many authors at the time

The s Theory Of Evolution
With one discovery, the battles began. When Galileo published a book defending Copernicus idea that
the Earth revolves around the sun, he was put on trial by the Catholic Church. This scientific finding
threatened the beliefs and teachings of religious institutions, which was the first battle in a never
ending war. Today, America exercises freedom of religion. However, this freedom is restricted in
schools where Darwin s Theory of Evolution is taught. With many advancements in science, to many,
the coexistence of science and religion, specifically Christianity, is questionable. To some,
developments in science, such as evolution, threaten the core beliefs of religious institutions. Several
scientists also believe that it is possible to believe in God and that humans evolved over time. Lastly,
others, including me, believe that science and religion can coexist and that both miracles and new
scientific discoveries can strengthen Christian faith. As Albert Einstein said, science without religion
is lame, religion without science is blind. This paper will further explore this question and provide
evidence that science and religion can coexist: are science and religion comparable? What do
scientific discoveries say?
In the beginning, there was light. This light created a spark, which started the fire of science and
religion. The light is the existence of science, the spark is the advancements in and applications of
science, and the fire is the controversy that

Teaching By Discussion Analysis
Teaching by Discussion As a Sunday school teacher at my previous church for four years, it was
important to give individuals a chance to give their input to the Scriptures as we studied them.
However, we are never too old to learn something new. After reading the article, Teaching by
Discussion, by Kenneth O. Gangel Ph.D., I realized some areas I fell short with my students in
discussing questions. Getting students involved in discussion at times was like pulling teeth, no one
opens their mouths and I found myself doing all of the talking (discussing). With all honesty, there are
other Sunday school teachers who fall in this same question and answer category, which I have
experienced. Nonetheless, this article expressed our purpose as teachers is to get the students involved
in classroom discussions by asking the right questions. Discussion is not conducted for the sake of
therapy but rather for the sake of pinpointing answers to questions for solutions. Ordinarily, teacher
and students are engaged in a cooperative effort to seek for truth, knowing in advance that truth also
its application to life can be found in God s Word. Furthermore, I can relate to this article ... Show

Forecasting focuses on predicting the timing and quantity of customer demand. Capacity Planning It is
essential to accurately predict what products people are willing to purchase. If there is not enough of
something people will be angry and if there is too much of another thing you are wasting money as a
company. Location Another very important aspect of a successful supermarket, location is important.
You must be in an area with the correct demographic of people to have success. Most people will not
be willing to drive an hour to go grocery shopping. Inventory Management The entire supermarket
must be working closely on inventory management so the perfect amount of inventory is always on
hand. As I mentioned before, too little of a product results in loss of sales and unhappy customers, but
too much is a waste of resources. Layout of Store A great layout is vital for success. Grocery shopping
can sometimes be tedious, so it is essential that the layout makes the process as easy as possible for a
consumer. If a customer is having trouble finding things then they might start shopping elsewhere.
Also, things that will spoil are usually in the back left of a store because that is where the customer
will finish shopping thus reducing the time the product will spend not being refrigerated. Scheduling A
great supermarket will have flawless scheduling of their employees and of deliveries. They will
always have fresh products and the right people

History of Animal Testing Essay
Animal Testing is when people use animals in experiments, to test their reaction to what is being
tested. The range of animals used in testing is from tens of millions to more than a hundred million
used annually. There has been much debate about this topic, because, animals are the most reliable
sources to use, especially mice, because we share 95% of our genes with them, which makes them the
most common animals to use. Although, many people think animal testing is crude and inaccurate
science, but the other hand is, would we rather use humans?
Animal testing has been going on since 500BC, found in ancient Greek writing. People believed that
animals were lacking intelligence so it didn t matter to them. Although, Theophrastus disagreed, ...

is poisoning, shocking, burning, and killing animals. Humans have found specific animals that they

animals, and they have never even thought of testing on humans. We have been using innocent
animals for our own products, which only use humans are going to be using, so why are we using
animals? The only reason why we are using animals is because we are too selfish to use ourselves.
There have been many surveys and research on what we humans think about this. Many people have
mentioned that it isn t fair because animals can t show or tell us their pain. Although, some people feel
that it is completely necessarily to test on animals because otherwise, we wouldn t have had all the
medicine we have, and many more products would have been unsafe to use.
During an interview between DoSomething.org and Nancy Beck Ph.D. and the science and policy
adviser at Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, the question asked was Why can t most
animals be put up for adoption after they re testing is finished? and Nancy Beck replied Animals are
often killed as part of the test, in order to determine whether there has been any toxicity to their
internal organs . This shows that most animals who get put into animal testing never come back out,

How Does The Refrigeration Be Considered An Artificial...
Can the refrigeration be considered as an artificial cold person cannot live without? Many different
authors had the ability to write effectively where it might be important and useful writing skill for the
authors to possess. In the beginning, Steven Johnson s who was a British American, and he had
published a book called, How We Got to Now. In the novel, Johnson presented six part series where it
had amazing explored legacies that passed on great ideas. In each of the chapter titles had six sessions
are: Glass, Cold, Sound, Clean, Time, and Light. Johnson had included many of the famous historical
characters such as Thomas Edison, Galileo Galilei, Mark Zuckerberg, and more. Throughout most of
the book, he had quite often brought different type of inventions into his writing. He liked to first
introduce his style of writing by adding interesting facts and histories, so this way he could reveal his
dialog in an effective accomplished for the readers to understand the writing concepts. One of the
unique aspect Johnson s mentioned in the chapter Cold was on the invention refrigerator. The
refrigerator is one of the one history, inventions that have small stories from each author s styles of

Writers have set their individual writing style apart by making it usually which is unique and for some

Un People, Un But, Une Foi
Un People, Un But, Une Foi
After going through a rut during the Middle Ages, culture, exploration, and power boomed all over the
world during the Renaissance. European explorers traveled down the coast of Africa, and in one of the
least explored areas, which became known as Mali, they found a culture not replicated in the rest of
the world. Mali never wanted to be oppressed, and this led to a lot of conflict throughout its history
from ancient times to as recently as today. Though Mali has had a tumultuous past, buried underneath
the rubble of many wars and conflicts is a culture unlike any other in the world, a foundation not
based on government but on traditions dating back almost two thousand years.
Archaeologists know from ruins that Mali has been populated for about 50,000 years. During ancient
times, part of the Sahara was a fertile grassland, and farming was introduced to this land in 5000 BCE.
The earliest traceable civilization in Mali is the Ghana Empire, which began in 300 BCE (Baxter 1).
Lasting until the thirteenth century A.D., the Ghana Empire ruled most of northwestern Africa. Ghana,
defined as leading or first, controlled from the Niger basin to the Atlantic until its collapse and the
establishment of the Mali Empire in the thirteenth century (African History: An Illustrated Handbook

The Mali Empire, one of the most powerful empires in the country s history, ruled until 1591 and
gained their success by trading gold, salt, and slaves to the Europeans. The

Coca Cola have maintained a steady asset turnover ratio 0f 2.51 and 2.50 in 2010 and 2011
respectively. Due to Coca Cola having high sales and relatively low assets, their asset turnover is
likely to be high and earn a low profit on each sale. If Coca Cola wish to improve their asset turnover
ratio, they could improve their sales performance or dispose of surplus or underutilised assets.
Inventory turnover measures the company s success in converting inventories into sales. Coca Cola s
current inventory turnover has been 62 days in 2010 and 76.2 days in 2011. This is a relatively high
number, meaning Coca Cola sell their entire inventories 5.89 and 4.79 times a year. This high figure
could be due to obsolete inventories, whereas a lower figure would indicate a more efficient business,
because they would sell their inventories more times a year. To improve their inventory turnover, Coca
Cola could hold lower levels of inventories or achieve higher sales without increasing their levels of
inventories. Receivables (or debtors ) days calculates the time typically taken by a business to collect
the money that it is owed, This is an important ratio, because granting customers lengthy periods of
trade credit may result in a business experiencing liquidity and cash flow problems. Coca Cola have
had receivables days of 38.6 days in 2010 and 46 days in 2011. The lower the figure the better,

Educational Autobiography Essay

Educational Autobiography A lot of people think education is just something you get in school, but in
reality education comes from different places and people not just school and teachers. For example,
way before I started school I was already being educated by my parents, they taught me how to eat,
behave, use the bathroom, talk, and a lot of other things that help out in life. I started my educational
career in John F. Kennedy Elementary. I don t really remember my years there because I only went
there for Kindergarten and 1st grade. After that, I went to Sepulveda Elementary. That was a learning

Sadly to say, I didn t really have a teacher in middle school that made a big impact in my life but I
matured on my own and got my stuff together and put my work first and girls second. When I
graduated 8th grade I was so excited because I had accomplished something special but I knew that
wasn t the end but in fact a beginning to an even bigger obstacle, high school. I still remember on the
day of graduation my mom went alone because my dad was working and after I told her that this wasn
t the last time she would see me walking down for a diploma because in couple more years I would be
doing it again. That was a big deal because she never graduated high school neither did my dad
because my mom had me and they had to care for me. Then finally I made it to high school. This was
the place where everything I learned up to now would help me. My 9th grade year was really good I
met new friends that I still talk to, got good grades but other than that it was a normal year. When I
went to 10th grade I was in AOF (Academy of Finance) or Global. At first I was a little optimistic
about being in it because I didn t really know a lot of people but I stayed because I was a little curious
about the whole business stuff going on in there. It was a good decision to stay because I really enjoy
all the business related work and I am looking forward to even having some sort of a business career
later on in life. The teacher that really made an impact on me is the teacher for whom I

Substrate Concentration Lab Report
Our group performed the test of decreasing the substrate concentration in the catalyzed reaction
decomposing hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas. For our baseline, we set up a reaction
using 10 ml 3% hydrogen peroxide (the substrate) and 1 ml yeast (the catalyst). We then calculated the
reaction rate to be 0.09375 ml/sec of oxygen produced. This reading is based off of the initial part of
the curve, before the plateau. Once the rate decreases in the data too much peroxide has been used up
to retain a steady reaction rate, so it is not reliable data for use in calculating the true rate. At this point
we hypothesized that a lower rate would be observed for lesser concentration of substrate because
there would be fewer molecules and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An increase in temperature means that the molecules are moving much more quickly, so there are
more interactions between molecules. This increases probability of molecules colliding with the
correct orientation and with sufficient energy to cause a reaction. There are, however, factors working
against this hypothesis. Enzymes, which serve as catalysts, significantly increase the rate of a reaction
by lowering its activation energy. As temperature increases, catalysts can become denatured, where the
protein unfolds beyond repair. Denaturation yields the proteins useless, so that would be expected to
decrease the reaction rate. Denaturation also can take place if the proteins become too cold. The true
test in this experimentation is of whether the increase in temperature damages the catalysts. If the
catalysts remain intact and can still facilitate reactions, the reaction rate is most likely to increase or
decrease with an increase or decrease in temperature, respectively. As projected, the reaction with the
increased temperature did in fact proceed the fastest, meaning the most water vapor was collected
initially. When temperature decreased, the rate stayed mostly the same. Since we did not carry out this
experiment, we are forced to guess at the cause of this. One possible option is that the temperature was
not altered enough to effect catalyst or the

Karl Marx And The Great Philosopher Essay
Karl Marx was born in Trier, Prussia in 1818 to a Jewish family, but despite his baptism at age 6, he
later became an atheist. Marx attended University of Bonn, but due to his imprisonment for
drunkenness and variances with another student, he was enrolled in the University of Berlin by his
parents. Marx earned his degree in philosophy and began writing for Rheinische Zeitung, a liberal
democratic newspaper. He later became their editor. Marx was a member of Young Hegelian
movement which was group that criticized Christianity and the liberal resistance of the Prussian
autocracy. Marx engaged in numerous revolutionary movements; However, after the failures he was
driven to London in 1849. For most of his life, Marx was not working alone. Marx worked with
Friedrich Engels, who had created a similar theory to that of Marx. Engel was a great communicator
while Marx was the great philosopher. The two worked well together to formulate the term, Marxism .
Engel contributed much to Marxism and Karl Marx s other successes. Marx continuously studied and
wrote, but he was unable to finish the last two volumes of his work. Therefore, Engel put together
Marx s notes to finish the volumes after Marx passed on March 14, 1883.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE PhD in Computational Engineering??
In this mighty world many blabber about their dreams, but who identified their paths and persistently
stuck on their words are the few ones, who are known famous to the world. Being remained unknown
would be my greatest regret. My path to chase my dreams is Mechanical Engineering, for a proud
mechanical engineer can say, When we rest, the world rusts!
I have had a special interest in mechanical engineering since my childhood, as I grew up watching my
father develop complicated equipment for power plants. Hence, I opted for a mechanical engineering
course for my UG program. The concept of computational science and engineering which uses
numerical approaches to characterize, predict and simulate physical events and engineering systems
using the laws of mechanics fascinated me. To understand their advanced methodologies, I have
pursued a Master s degree in CAD/CAM from VIT .
The courses in my PG program included Finite element methods, Applied engineering mathematics,

Analysis Of Cytotoxic T Cells ( Ctcs )
Cytotoxic T Cells (CTCs) are comprised of alpha beta chains that have the ability to directly kill
infected cells. As a major component of the adaptive immune system, the function of CTCs are to scan
the intracellular environment in order to target and destroy infected cells . Small peptide molecules,
presented on behalf of the entire cell, are transported to the cell surface as pMHC, allowing TCRs on
the surface to detect any foreign signals in the method explain above. The diagram below shows how
the antigen fragment inside the cell associates with an MHC molecule and is transported to the cell
surface. CTC responses to disease are initiated through the interaction between the TCR, and these
protein fragments derived from foreign invaders that are presented by pMHCI on the surface of
infected cells. The affinity between CD8 and the MHC molecule keeps the T cell and the target cell
bound closely together during antigen specific activation specially conducted in CTC due to the
complex bonds within the CD8. Once a CTL has identified a cell expressing a foreign class 1 MHC,
the infected cell is eliminated. The structure of the receptors on these CTCs are specialised for this due
to its double edged variable region, as shown in the diagram, allowing for additional binding to co
receptor CD8, facilitating the phagocytosis on the pathogen if necessary. CDR3 is found on the TCR
in CTCs as CTCs interact with a large number of different cell types and recognise a diverse

Long Day`S Journey Into Night Character Analysis
Long Day`s Journey into thePast: The character analysis of Mary In the play ¡°Long Day¡¯s Journey
into Night,¡± by Eugene O¡¯Neill, the writer depicts a typical day of the Tyrone family, whose once
close family has deteriorated over the years for a number of reasons: Mary¡¯s drug addiction, Tyrone
Jamie and Edmund¡¯s alcoholism, Tyrone¡¯s stinginess, and the sons` pessimistic attitude toward
future. In the play, all of the four characters are miserable about life, and they all remember the past
and try to escape from reality by drinking alcohol or taking drugs. Among these four characters, Mary
is a typical and special one; she is the most tragic character in the play. She used to be an innocent girl

In Scene One of the Act Two, Mary tends to blame the problems of the family on fate. She first
criticizes Jamie for his tendency to look for weaknesses in others, but then she changes directions and
attributes the flaw to the way Jamie was raised, which is not his fault.(P63) Mary¡¯s fatalistic point of
view is another flaw in her character, because she always uses this as an excuse and finds a way out.
Likewise, she blames most of her problems on her failed dreams and disappointment, which limits her
choice of actions. This fatalistic view is a barrier to solving her own problems and the conflicts of the
family. As time passes, in the Act Three, Mary continues to take morphine, which makes her even
more miserable and unconscious. The more Mary uses morphine, the more she tends to travel back
into past memories. At the beginning of Act Three, Mary has a conversation with Cathleen and she
talks about her youth, her dreams and the love story between her and Tyrone.(P106/107) These
memories are the only things that can make Mary happy now. At this point, we can see why Mary uses
morphine so much¡ªit allows her to leave the present and live in the world of the past, when she was
young and beautiful. Aside from Mary¡¯s drug problem, however, it is important to talk about the

Saving the USPS Through Privitization Essay example
Due to the rising popularity of email and the easiness of scanning documents, less and less mail is

(USPS) is having financial problems. All over the world there has been sweeping postal reform. New
Zealand moved to three day mail delivery, Canada eliminated home delivery in cities, and the United
Kingdom recently privatized their mail system. The United States Postal office has been losing money
and reported a loss of $15.9 billion dollars in 2012. The USPS has been increasing stamp prices to

Congress also imposes various obligations on the USPS, like delivering mail at uniform price
throughout the nation, that only make the USPS financial situation worse. While residents see these
price guarantees as a benefit, the uniform price guarantee only adds to the financial strain. Now
competitors, UPS and FedEx, are providing competition on package delivery services that the USPS
cannot compete with, because of Congress, creating greater revenue losses. One of very few benefits
the USPS receives from its association with congress is its monopoly over first class and standard
mail. With increasing technological advancements that allow Americans bypass the USPS all together
makes the USPS monopoly over first class and standard mail delivery obsolete, making Congress even
more of an obstacle. Other countries who have repealed the monopoly of their mail services, like New
Zealand and Sweden, have shown this competition to be beneficial. The EU moved in 2008 to
eliminate monopolies of mail services by 2013 in all member states. Without this monopoly in the
United States, other first class and standard mail service companies would be able to participate in the
market and perhaps do it more efficiently, driving the USPS towards efficiency also. Also, by
privatizing the USPS it would allow the USPS to diversify and expand

Arrogance of Power Review Essay
English 102
2 July 2014
A Favorable Evaluation
William J. Fulbright, a democratic Senator from Arkansas, was Chairman of the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee in 1966 when The Arrogance of Power was published. In an excerpt from
Fulbright s book, he analyzes the misguided thinking behind America s global interventionism and its
delusion of righteous all powerfulness. These symptoms are a confusion of power and virtue.
Fulbright defines the arrogance of power as, a psychological need that nations seem to have in order to
prove that they are bigger, better, or stronger than other nations (2). William J. Fulbright uses
persuasive appeals in his well structured book, The Arrogance of Power to help convey his views on
U.S. war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to his use of pathos, Fulbright also has an excellent use of logos and ethos throughout the
piece.
Fulbright lays out facts that the law of averages has already been more than kind to us, and sooner or
later the law of averages will turn against us (4). Fulbright educates the readers on theologians,
behavioral scientists, and humanists, explaining in detail how these fields play a role in the behavior
of nations. In pointing out these facts Fulbright is appealing to the reader s logical sides. William J.
Fulbright uses ethos by using other sources to help further his position. There is a Canadian
psychiatrist, Brock Chisholm, and two prominent authors, Aldous Huxley and Mark Twain, quoted to
help supplement the Senator s point that a radical change in traditional behavior is required (Fulbright
4). Given Fulbright s position as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he himself is a
very credible source. The reader is much more likely to agree with Senator Fulbright on issues rather
than to agree with an average citizen.
Fulbright is very blunt and matter of fact during this piece which helped make his point. There is not a
lot of fluff to read around. In part to great transitions the work has a logical order to it which seems to
build everything up and then little by little shows the flaws and eventually tears it down wholly.
Fulbright not only

value of the items and would naturally use them as they were intended. Like her grandmother, Maggie

which should be displayed in a museum. Dee s thoughts of her simple minded sister come into full

Somalia in the Age of War on Terror: An Analysis of Violent Events and U.S. Covert Operations
The Zambakari Advisory
Phoenix, AZ 85005
Introduction
Somalia is a small country in the eastern part of Africa, known as The Horn of Africa . According to
the CIA World Factbook (2016), Somalia has a population of roughly 10.4 million, and 85 percent of
people are Somali. Additionally, a significant part of the population is Muslim, (CIA World Factbook,
2016), whom have contributed to the current conflict. In this report, we analyze the recent violent
conflict and U.S. intervention in Somalia.
The disorder in Somalia that has built up for many years has contributed to the growth of a terrorist
group bent on global jihad, al Shabaab (Ibrahim, 2010). Al Shabaab is an Islamist group that has been
involved in conflict with the Somalian government, and is considered one of the major threats to
Somalia s prospects for peace (Mueller, 2016).
The United States became involved with military strikes in Somalia during 2009, to combat al
Shabaab (Rotte, 2016). However, numerous civilians have lost their lives in the process. Complicating
the situation, it is not always clear whether or not al Shabaab poses an imminent threat. Prior to 2009,
the United States also set up the Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counter terrorism, where
they allied with Somali warlords to fight al Qaeda (Ibrahim, 2010). Since the United States allied itself

New Historicism Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Hyperbolism In...
New Historicism analyzes literature using more than just the text; it uses information from the author s
time period as well as from the reader s time period to understand the text. Readers of literature are
hopelessly subjective interpreters of what [they] observe, according to this theory, meaning that one
has no choice when reading literature other than to interpret it within the context of one s own era
(Allen Brizee, et al). This school of literary theory has only recently been developed but it is still
widely used, though also widely criticized (J. Kelly, T. Kelly). Many of Nathaniel Hawthorne s works
were allegories, and he had a tendency to denounce the harsh Puritan beliefs present in his time; thus,
The Minister s Black Veil can easily be viewed from a New Historicist view, demonstrated in the way
that Hawthorne caustically attacks the Puritan belief system which he detests through hyperbolizing
situations and contrasting light and dark. Nathaniel Hawthorne s works were a product of his ancestors
whom he despised. Hawthorne grew up in Salem, Massachusetts, surrounded by the legacy of the
Salem Witch Trials that had happened a little over a century before his time. He despised Puritan
tradition, particularly because one of his ancestors was one of the harshest judges during the witch
scare. Hawthorne even added a w to his last name (from Hathorne) to distance his reputation from that
of his ancestor s ( Nathaniel Hawthorne ). Given this background, it is no

The Sociological Imagination, By Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King wrote the following in a campus newspaper, the Maroon Tiger 1947,
It seems to me that education has a two fold function in the life of man and in society: the one is utility
and the other is culture (King, 1947).
This essay will analyse via the sociological imagination, whose interests does schooling serve and
why? In addressing this question, one needs to discuss why is an education so valued in Australia
today.
Education has had three phases of development according, to Van Krieken, 2013. Each phase being
associated with a set of beliefs about the nature and purpose of education. Firstly, the advent of the
modern system from the mid 19th century to World War II, influenced chiefly by liberal humanist
ideas. Secondly, post World War II expansion into the late 1970 s was influenced by social democratic
beliefs. Finally, the increased marketisation of education which has been influenced by neoliberalism
since the 1980 s (Krieken, 2013, p. 149).
In Australia, post World War II the federal government began to take an increasing role over the states
in education, as states were finding it increasingly difficult to fund higher education due in part to the
baby boom post World War II and the requirement for more university trained teachers and by the late
1950 s. Furthermore, politically, grouwing desire among politicians to enable more potential students
to enroll in higher education(Krieken, 2013, p. 150).

Analysis Of Howl, By Ginsberg
The standards of obscenity and what is and is not protected by the First Amendment has evolved as
the fields of literature and art have expanded. In 1956, the headlines were filled with mentions of
Howl being fought about in court. Howl, a poem written by Ginsberg, is focused on the outcast groups
of American society such as the mentally ill, members of the LGBT community, and drug users.
Originally, he did not intend for the poem to get out to the public due to the references from his own
life with past loves, friends, and experiences. But Ferlinghetti, overhearing the poem read for the first
time publically, offered to publish the poem. Soon afterwards, the poem was taken to court. The
personal bits and certain details of the poem got the poem sent to court where it was put through the
newer standards and reading practices to determine obscenity. At the end of the trial, the judge
determined that Howl was not be obscene and was protected by the First Amendment.
The law defined obscene material as writing with no value of any kind and with the purpose to ensue
scandalous and lusty thoughts in its readers. These standards for was determined in Miller v.

The United States Army Breaks Down The Operational Variables
Throughout the history of the world, there has always been a struggle to be the most powerful country
in the world. Many key aspects that go into deciding what countries are the most powerful; some of
these aspects are having a powerful military, strong economy, large population and a powerful but
strong government. Most key aspects of what makes a country strong are also the same the aspects
that make up the operational environment variables. The United States Army breaks down the
operational variables into Political, Military, Economic, Social, Infrastructure, Information, Physical
Environment and Time (PMESII PT) when evaluating the operational variables . Russia has built a
strong, but stagnating economy on several natural resources to include the refinery and export of
natural gas and oil. According to the Jim Picht (2014) exportation of natural gas and oil to Eastern
Europe account for 70 percent of Russia s exports and 53 percent of the government s revenue. Along
with exporting oil to Eastern Europe, Russia also exports too many countries to include China and
Belarus. Europe fueled majority by Russian supplied natural gas and oil, the dependency of Europe s
need for this natural resource is the reason Russia s economy is so strong. In 2014, when Russia
decided to invade the neighboring country of Ukraine has led Europe to begin searching for other
suppliers of their natural resources. If Europe finds other countries to supply the natural resources

Homes surrounding the area are mainly detached single family dwellings. There are several apartment
complexes in the area that appear to be built within the past 15 years. Most of the homes are well
maintained and mostly made of brick and board or concrete block. The ages of the homes range from
the 1950 s to as recent as 2010 and newer. Some subdivisions as well as homes built directly on Old
Hickory Lake shoreline appear newer and more modern. All are modernized with plumbing and
central heat. Density is low with most of the homes having both front and back yards. The homes
closer to the railroad tracks have smaller yards than the homes immediately surrounding Old Hickory
Lake. The majority of the homes are well cared for and the properties well maintained. There does not
appear to be any abandoned or vacant homes. A slight disparity in the size of the homes and value of
the properties is a result of homes located directly on Old Hickory Lake versus the homes on the

The Red Tent (All You Need to
Literary Analysis: The Red Tent The author and her times Anita Diamant, author of the historic fiction
novel, The Red Tent, is a devout Jewish American living in Newtonville, Massachusetts with her
husband and daughter, Emilia. She has written five books about contemporary Jewish life, The Red
Tent being her first novel. Diamant may have been influenced by the recent resurgence of creating
Midrashim, or stories that attempt to explain the Torah by examining its subtexts. Modern women
have taken a keen interest in this practice, hoping to expand on the minute biblical mentions of women
like Dinah. Form, structure and plot The Red Tent is organized in a seemingly complicated yet
beautifully simple way. There are three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only physical description of Dinah is quite vague: #8216; #8230;the dark eyed girl with the curly
hair and the fine hands #8230; #8217; (Diamant 189). She was a mid eastern girl, but little else is said
of her appearance. Dinah #8217;s character is essential to the novel, as it is a chronicle of her life. She
is the heart and soul of the story. Through her the reader experiences one of the oldest stories of all
time, Genesis, through the eyes of someone who was painfully obscure for thousands of years. A
simple description of her own name best describes Dinah #8217;s character: Maybe you heard it in the
music of my name: the first vowel high and clear, as when a mother calls to her child at dusk; the
second sound soft, for whispering secrets on pillows (Diamant 1). Even so early in the novel, before
the actual story begins, Diamant establishes a maternal element in Dinah. Whispering secrets proves to
be an important element in Dinah #8217;s life, as the secrets of women are passed from mother to
daughter in a never ending cycle of life and love. In concordance with the importance placed on
mothers in The Red Tent, Dinah #8217;s most prominent mother figures, Leah and Rachel, are
instrumental to the plot. When the story begins (i.e. when Jacob arrives), the sisters are fourteen and
twelve. They are followed to their deaths, which, although unsaid, would be thought to be in

The main services provided through utility grids are software and special equipments. For instance,
the applications can be run on one machine and all the users can send their data to be processed to that
machine and receive the result back.Grid Computing will not come in reality unless it provides a core
of services ,reliability and enough usability1.
III. Advantages and Disadvantages
There is no need to have large number of SMP servers. It efficiently uses the idle resources. If there is
any failure in one grid ,the grid environment automatically uses the other resources. Easy to scalable.
Jobs can be executed in parallel and increase the speed of the computation. Grid computing consists of
some disadvantages too. Some applications need to be modified in order to use this application in grid
computing. The applications which are not designed to use an MPI (Message Passing Interface) will
have to revert to an SMP (Symmetric Multi Processing). Grid computing requires an advanced
infrastructure like small servers, fast connections between the servers and the use of quality tools,
software and skilled technicians to manage the grid. This grid computing is also costly and security
issues also need to be

From the moment the first American settlers stepped off their musty ship and laid foot on the fertile soil which makes up our great nation, women in America have almost always been seen as inferior when compared to their male counterparts. What s more, Americans have a rich history in oppressing those we deem to be lesser. In terms of women, this oppression has taken on many forms throughout the years. From not being able to go to school to receive a proper education, to being denied suffrage, to being criticized for how they look or what they wear, women have encountered obstacles that men can sometimes only imagine. We as a nation have a defining past in which women were, and sometimes still are, expected to look or act in a manner defined as appropriate by men and even by each other. Nowadays, it seems as though we are attempting to compensate for the years of mistreatment by sending positive messages of acceptance to young girls and women alike. However, while one half of the population is being praised for their uniqueness, there is still another half who are being left to fend for themselves in the shadows. Men and boys, though always perceived as the strong and indestructible members of society, are not given the same encouraging spotlight as women and girls. • 16. The Battle Of The Crusades In The Song Of Roland In the epic poem, The Song of Roland the tale depicts the Battle at Rencevaux in which the protagonist is betrayed and serves as a martyr to justify the Crusades. The Crusades were a medieval military expedition by the Roman Catholics to purge the Muslims from the Holy Land. With this definition of the Crusades, one can conclude that the Song of Roland should not be considered apart of the Crusades as the poem s context is historically inaccurate, written long after the events, and lacks a credible source. Instead, this depiction should just be considered as a folk tale that was used to drive the crusaders to keep fighting. The story of heroism in this poem was no doubt a motivational tool that inspired soldiers to persevere and uproot the Muslims from the Holy Land. The Song of Roland dates back to early 12th century, in the midst of the Crusades. The original battle was called the Battle of Roncevaux Pass which took place in 778 AD, long before the epic poem dates back to. For one to even consider this poem as the first battle of the Crusades the poem would have be written relatively soon after the battle. Some scholars speculate that the poem was written around the time that the battle took place but there is no evidence to support their theory as the only written copies date back between 1129 and 1165 AD. These dates place the written poem in the middle of the Crusades. Furthermore, this strengthens the idea that the poem is not a accurate description of what actually happened on that day. Instead, this epic poem was written for another purpose, the purpose of inspiring the current knights of the glory and honor that can be gained from this Holy War. With the date of the Song of Roland being nearly four hundred years after the actual battle one could see the potential problems with the details of the story. Having no previous records, experts aren t sure whether the epic poem was changed on purpose, or if parts of it were forgotten. Although the tale conveys a sense of heroism and pride, it there are many details that are historically inaccurate. For example, in the Song of Roland , the author describes the opposing forces as Saracens . This term Saracen is used by many authors at the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to Coca Cola having high sales and relatively low assets, their asset turnover is likely to be high and earn a low profit on each sale. If Coca Cola wish to improve their asset turnover ratio, they could improve their sales performance or dispose of surplus or underutilised assets. Inventory turnover measures the company s success in converting inventories into sales. Coca Cola s current inventory turnover has been 62 days in 2010 and 76.2 days in 2011. This is a relatively high number, meaning Coca Cola sell their entire inventories 5.89 and 4.79 times a year. This high figure could be due to obsolete inventories, whereas a lower figure would indicate a more efficient business, because they would sell their inventories more times a year. To improve their inventory turnover, Coca Cola could hold lower levels of inventories or achieve higher sales without increasing their levels of inventories. Receivables (or debtors ) days calculates the time typically taken by a business to collect the money that it is owed, This is an important ratio, because granting customers lengthy periods of trade credit may result in a business experiencing liquidity and cash flow problems. Coca Cola have had receivables days of 38.6 days in 2010 and 46 days in 2011. The lower the figure the better, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Educational Autobiography Essay Miguel Huerta Period 1 September 8, 2010 Educational Autobiography A lot of people think education is just something you get in school, but in reality education comes from different places and people not just school and teachers. For example, way before I started school I was already being educated by my parents, they taught me how to eat, behave, use the bathroom, talk, and a lot of other things that help out in life. I started my educational career in John F. Kennedy Elementary. I don t really remember my years there because I only went there for Kindergarten and 1st grade. I still remember on the day of graduation my mom went alone because my dad was working and after I told her that this wasn t the last time she would see me walking down for a diploma because in couple more years I would be doing it again. That was a big deal because she never graduated high school neither did my dad because my mom had me and they had to care for me. Then finally I made it to high school. This was the place where everything I learned up to now would help me. My 9th grade year was really good I met new friends that I still talk to, got good grades but other than that it was a normal year. When I went to 10th grade I was in AOF (Academy of Finance) or Global. At first I was a little optimistic about being in it because I didn t really know a lot of people but I stayed because I was a little curious about the whole business stuff going on in there. • 27. Substrate Concentration Lab Report Our group performed the test of decreasing the substrate concentration in the catalyzed reaction decomposing hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas. For our baseline, we set up a reaction using 10 ml 3% hydrogen peroxide (the substrate) and 1 ml yeast (the catalyst). We then calculated the reaction rate to be 0.09375 ml/sec of oxygen produced. This reading is based off of the initial part of the curve, before the plateau. Once the rate decreases in the data too much peroxide has been used up to retain a steady reaction rate, so it is not reliable data for use in calculating the true rate. At this point we hypothesized that a lower rate would be observed for lesser concentration of substrate because there would be fewer molecules and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An increase in temperature means that the molecules are moving much more quickly, so there are more interactions between molecules. This increases probability of molecules colliding with the correct orientation and with sufficient energy to cause a reaction. There are, however, factors working against this hypothesis. Enzymes, which serve as catalysts, significantly increase the rate of a reaction by lowering its activation energy. As temperature increases, catalysts can become denatured, where the protein unfolds beyond repair. Denaturation yields the proteins useless, so that would be expected to decrease the reaction rate. Denaturation also can take place if the proteins become too cold. The true test in this experimentation is of whether the increase in temperature damages the catalysts. If the catalysts remain intact and can still facilitate reactions, the reaction rate is most likely to increase or decrease with an increase or decrease in temperature, respectively. As projected, the reaction with the increased temperature did in fact proceed the fastest, meaning the most water vapor was collected initially. When temperature decreased, the rate stayed mostly the same. Since we did not carry out this experiment, we are forced to guess at the cause of this. One possible option is that the temperature was not altered enough to effect catalyst or the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Analysis Of Cytotoxic T Cells ( Ctcs ) Cytotoxic T Cells (CTCs) are comprised of alpha beta chains that have the ability to directly kill infected cells. As a major component of the adaptive immune system, the function of CTCs are to scan the intracellular environment in order to target and destroy infected cells . Small peptide molecules, presented on behalf of the entire cell, are transported to the cell surface as pMHC, allowing TCRs on the surface to detect any foreign signals in the method explain above. The diagram below shows how the antigen fragment inside the cell associates with an MHC molecule and is transported to the cell surface. CTC responses to disease are initiated through the interaction between the TCR, and these protein fragments derived from foreign invaders that are presented by pMHCI on the surface of infected cells. The affinity between CD8 and the MHC molecule keeps the T cell and the target cell bound closely together during antigen specific activation specially conducted in CTC due to the complex bonds within the CD8. Once a CTL has identified a cell expressing a foreign class 1 MHC, the infected cell is eliminated. The structure of the receptors on these CTCs are specialised for this due to its double edged variable region, as shown in the diagram, allowing for additional binding to co receptor CD8, facilitating the phagocytosis on the pathogen if necessary. In the play, all of the four characters are miserable about life, and they all remember the past and try to escape from reality by drinking alcohol or taking drugs. She first criticizes Jamie for his tendency to look for weaknesses in others, but then she changes directions and attributes the flaw to the way Jamie was raised, which is not his fault.(P63) Mary¡¯s fatalistic point of view is another flaw in her character, because she always uses this as an excuse and finds a way out. Likewise, she blames most of her problems on her failed dreams and disappointment, which limits her choice of actions. This fatalistic view is a barrier to solving her own problems and the conflicts of the family. As time passes, in the Act Three, Mary continues to take morphine, which makes her even more miserable and unconscious. The more Mary uses morphine, the more she tends to travel back into past memories. At the beginning of Act Three, Mary has a conversation with Cathleen and she talks about her youth, her dreams and the love story between her and Tyrone.(P106/107) These memories are the only things that can make Mary happy now. New Zealand moved to three day mail delivery, Canada eliminated home delivery in cities, and the United Kingdom recently privatized their mail system. The United States Postal office has been losing money and reported a loss of $15.9 billion dollars in 2012. Congress also imposes various obligations on the USPS, like delivering mail at uniform price throughout the nation, that only make the USPS financial situation worse. While residents see these price guarantees as a benefit, the uniform price guarantee only adds to the financial strain. Now competitors, UPS and FedEx, are providing competition on package delivery services that the USPS cannot compete with, because of Congress, creating greater revenue losses. One of very few benefits the USPS receives from its association with congress is its monopoly over first class and standard mail. With increasing technological advancements that allow Americans bypass the USPS all together makes the USPS monopoly over first class and standard mail delivery obsolete, making Congress even more of an obstacle. Other countries who have repealed the monopoly of their mail services, like New Zealand and Sweden, have shown this competition to be beneficial. The EU moved in 2008 to eliminate monopolies of mail services by 2013 in all member states. In an excerpt from Fulbright s book, he analyzes the misguided thinking behind America s global interventionism and its delusion of righteous all powerfulness. These symptoms are a confusion of power and virtue. Fulbright defines the arrogance of power as, a psychological need that nations seem to have in order to prove that they are bigger, better, or stronger than other nations (2). William J. Fulbright educates the readers on theologians, behavioral scientists, and humanists, explaining in detail how these fields play a role in the behavior of nations. In pointing out these facts Fulbright is appealing to the reader s logical sides. William J. Fulbright uses ethos by using other sources to help further his position. There is a Canadian psychiatrist, Brock Chisholm, and two prominent authors, Aldous Huxley and Mark Twain, quoted to help supplement the Senator s point that a radical change in traditional behavior is required (Fulbright 4). Given Fulbright s position as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he himself is a very credible source. The reader is much more likely to agree with Senator Fulbright on issues rather than to agree with an average citizen. Fulbright is very blunt and matter of fact during this piece which helped make his point. There is not a lot of fluff to read around. Additionally, a significant part of the population is Muslim, (CIA World Factbook, 2016), whom have contributed to the current conflict. In this report, we analyze the recent violent conflict and U.S. intervention in Somalia. The disorder in Somalia that has built up for many years has contributed to the growth of a terrorist group bent on global jihad, al Shabaab (Ibrahim, 2010). Al Shabaab is an Islamist group that has been involved in conflict with the Somalian government, and is considered one of the major threats to Somalia s prospects for peace (Mueller, 2016). • 37. New Historicism Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Hyperbolism In... New Historicism analyzes literature using more than just the text; it uses information from the author s time period as well as from the reader s time period to understand the text. Readers of literature are hopelessly subjective interpreters of what [they] observe, according to this theory, meaning that one has no choice when reading literature other than to interpret it within the context of one s own era (Allen Brizee, et al). This school of literary theory has only recently been developed but it is still widely used, though also widely criticized (J. Kelly, T. Kelly). Many of Nathaniel Hawthorne s works were allegories, and he had a tendency to denounce the harsh Puritan beliefs present in his time; thus, The Minister s Black Veil can easily be viewed from a New Historicist view, demonstrated in the way that Hawthorne caustically attacks the Puritan belief system which he detests through hyperbolizing situations and contrasting light and dark. Nathaniel Hawthorne s works were a product of his ancestors whom he despised. Hawthorne grew up in Salem, Massachusetts, surrounded by the legacy of the Salem Witch Trials that had happened a little over a century before his time. He despised Puritan tradition, particularly because one of his ancestors was one of the harshest judges during the witch scare. Hawthorne even added a w to his last name (from Hathorne) to distance his reputation from that of his ancestor s ( Nathaniel Hawthorne ). Given this background, it is no ... This essay will analyse via the sociological imagination, whose interests does schooling serve and why? In addressing this question, one needs to discuss why is an education so valued in Australia today. Education has had three phases of development according, to Van Krieken, 2013. Each phase being associated with a set of beliefs about the nature and purpose of education. Firstly, the advent of the modern system from the mid 19th century to World War II, influenced chiefly by liberal humanist ideas. Secondly, post World War II expansion into the late 1970 s was influenced by social democratic beliefs. Finally, the increased marketisation of education which has been influenced by neoliberalism since the 1980 s (Krieken, 2013, p. 149). In Australia, post World War II the federal government began to take an increasing role over the states in education, as states were finding it increasingly difficult to fund higher education due in part to the baby boom post World War II and the requirement for more university trained teachers and by the late 1950 s. • 45. The Red Tent (All You Need to Literary Analysis: The Red Tent The author and her times Anita Diamant, author of the historic fiction novel, The Red Tent, is a devout Jewish American living in Newtonville, Massachusetts with her husband and daughter, Emilia. She has written five books about contemporary Jewish life, The Red Tent being her first novel. Diamant may have been influenced by the recent resurgence of creating Midrashim, or stories that attempt to explain the Torah by examining its subtexts. Modern women have taken a keen interest in this practice, hoping to expand on the minute biblical mentions of women like Dinah. Form, structure and plot The Red Tent is organized in a seemingly complicated yet beautifully simple way. There are three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only physical description of Dinah is quite vague: #8216; #8230;the dark eyed girl with the curly hair and the fine hands #8230; #8217; (Diamant 189). She was a mid eastern girl, but little else is said of her appearance. Dinah #8217;s character is essential to the novel, as it is a chronicle of her life. She is the heart and soul of the story. Through her the reader experiences one of the oldest stories of all time, Genesis, through the eyes of someone who was painfully obscure for thousands of years. A simple description of her own name best describes Dinah #8217;s character: Maybe you heard it in the music of my name: the first vowel high and clear, as when a mother calls to her child at dusk; the second sound soft, for whispering secrets on pillows (Diamant 1). Even so early in the novel, before the actual story begins, Diamant establishes a maternal element in Dinah. Whispering secrets proves to be an important element in Dinah #8217;s life, as the secrets of women are passed from mother to daughter in a never ending cycle of life and love. In concordance with the importance placed on mothers in The Red Tent, Dinah #8217;s most prominent mother figures, Leah and Rachel, are instrumental to the plot. When the story begins (i.e. when Jacob arrives), the sisters are fourteen and twelve. They are followed to their deaths, which, although unsaid, would be thought to be in ... • 46. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Grid Computing This paper gives an overview about Grid Computing and the various key issues related to that.Today we are in the Internet world and everyone prefers to get fast access to the Internet. The growth of the internet with various resources and high speed networks changes the society enormously. We can improve the speed of the computer using Grid. This paper presents clearly the vision of the grid computing and the architecture of grid computing. The advantages and the disadvantages of the grid computing has also been discussed. 1.Introduction The grid vision is the computational power such as resources, power, data are readily available as electric power1.Grid allows the user to use these resources efficiently and securely. Grid computing is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main services provided through utility grids are software and special equipments. For instance, the applications can be run on one machine and all the users can send their data to be processed to that machine and receive the result back.Grid Computing will not come in reality unless it provides a core of services ,reliability and enough usability1. III. Advantages and Disadvantages There is no need to have large number of SMP servers. It efficiently uses the idle resources. If there is any failure in one grid ,the grid environment automatically uses the other resources. Easy to scalable. Jobs can be executed in parallel and increase the speed of the computation. Grid computing consists of some disadvantages too. Some applications need to be modified in order to use this application in grid computing. The applications which are not designed to use an MPI (Message Passing Interface) will have to revert to an SMP (Symmetric Multi Processing). Grid computing requires an advanced infrastructure like small servers, fast connections between the servers and the use of quality tools, software and skilled technicians to manage the grid. This grid computing is also costly and security issues also need to be ...
