In Vincent O’Sullivan’S Finding The Pattern, Solving The
In Vincent O Sullivan s Finding the Pattern, Solving the Problem: Katherine Mansfield The New
Zealand European, it is noted that Katherine Mansfield was an enthusiast for the cinema , that she
acted in several movies and that her letters frequently took up such images as the months that stream
by like a movie picture (18). Furthermore, her short story At the Bay begins with the line Very early
morning (Mansfield 5), that when interpreted from a literary standpoint, is more suited to a screenplay
direction than the opening of a narrative. From studying At the Bay, alongside The Garden Party and
Miss Brill, it is evident that her love of cinema influences her own writing, to the point where
techniques that are prominently filmic, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The big bush covered hills (Mansfield 1) and sandy road with shallow puddles(2) of the opening are
made evident that they re not situated by the weed hung rocks and small rock pools (20) of a later
section, yet the consistency of the style in which each area is described, the narrative voice wandering
from components of the setting, such as the tide to the sunlight (20) to the green binds...in the
bungalows (21) and the pawa shells (21), not unlike a montage, unite the set of surroundings by
replicating the manner in which they are portrayed.
This parallels Citizen Kane s News of the World sequence, a montage that uses accurate renditions of
a series of news segments, where newspapers and footage are both crafted to look as authentic and
possible, to create a realistic depiction of media coverage that encompasses the globe through the
different languages printed on certain newspapers. This of course brings different places together to
add to the legibility of the scene and thus its overall realism. Much like Mansfield, Welles uses the
idea of consistency and replication in his montage as a way of uniting it to the real world.
Yet this montage sequence in Citizen Kane fulfills another purpose. This scene takes place directly
after Kane s death, a sombre, moving moment. By directly contrasting that moment with a

The Technology Implementation Plan
Technology Implementation
Introduction
When deploying new products into an organization that contain elements you do no have experience
with, like new technology, considered the human factors in the implementation process to reduce
issues that may arise. When implementing new technology within a company, make sure that end
users contribute into the design process and that the end user will benefit from the change. Managers
should communicate constantly and effectively, involve employees, and leadership to endorse the
technology and the change process.

Unexpected changes may be disruptive, and leadership may encounter resistance. To manage
technology changes the first step is to understand technology dynamics, and resistance it generates.
According to Regan and O Conner (2002), managing organizational changes requires understanding
the variables and their interdependencies; creating a climate for learning; recognizing new power
distributions and handling complexity, ambiguity, and uncertainty. Of course, technology changes take
a toll on the employee s morale and managerial time and emotion. Sometimes plans are abandoned
because of strong employee resistance or because the managers feel unprepared or unable to
implement the changes successfully. (Chapter 11.2.2 Technology Brings Change).
e. Communication plans
First in order for the goals and objectives of the communications plans to succeed, It is very important
that staff involved in this plan are aware of the leaderships support and direction. In addition, leader s
needed to speak positively about the project, and the process changes involved the staff should expect.
Management needs to speak honestly and listen to all levels of the organization. Secondly, if the
organization and its leadership did not adhere to changes proposed by staff involved, resistance is
likely to occur. However, if staff involved were consulted, participant s acceptance is more likely.
Finally, it is important to

Essay On The Christmas Carol
I have to say, this play was intriguing to me, with the three interlocking plots, all of which surrounding
a common theme; marriages. I am not familiar with this play outside of this class, I had wanted to see
the Hollywood adaptation with Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Stanley Tucci, but I never got
around to it. To be honest, I didn t identify with any of the characters or the plot itself, which caused
great difficulty in choosing an angle for this paper.
The planned marriage between the good natured, appreciative Duke Theseus, who makes the best of
everything, and the Amazonian queen, the proud, fastidious Hippolyta was interesting, with a Pagan
twist, I enjoy Paganism and Pagan Esque mood, scenery, and feel. Then an utterly mad scramble ...

Essay on Real Women Have Curves
Adam Milkovich Professor David Finley English 101 20 April 2012 Women in Unfair Work
Conditions: The Fight Over Independence or Family! The play Real Women Have Curves was written
by Josefina Lopez, it depicted the hard ships of immigrant female workers and the power and strength
of women working together as one. About a decade later a movie was made. However the movie Real
Women Have Curves still shows the same struggles these women in the play face and also shows how
strong women working together can be. The key differences from the movie and the play are that they
depict two different stories and almost give off completely different messages, especially when the

In the play the men are made out as bad guys and Ana is waiting to hear from NYU through financial
aid. More so in the movie it is Ana s mom who does not want her to go away to college and make a
better life for her only because she want s Ana to grow up how she grew up. Ana strives to be an
independent woman who wants to find love. But her mom just wants her to find a husband to take care
of her. Ana even goes as far as telling her mother Why is a women s virginity the only thing that
matters? I have thoughts, feelings, and opinions. (Real) her mother looks at her weird. On the other
hand there is Ana s teacher Mr. Guzman, who sees the benefits from sending Ana to college and leaver
her dirty old neighborhood. Mr. Guzman helps Ana out by pulling some strings at Colombia
University. He also tells her to apply for scholarships, but when she doesn t he shows up at her house.
When she did get into Colombia University the first person to tell her was Mr. Guzman. Ana s mother
does not support Ana leaving for college and leaving the family. Even on the day does leave, her mom
doesn t even say goodbye to her own daughter. Another difference in the movie from the play is the
obvious different points of view. The play is told from Estela s point of view and the movie is shown
through Ana s point of view. The play shows more of Estela s struggles in the factory, not being able

Social Justice B block
December 20, 2014 Before waging a war, it is always a good idea to think of what the possible
outcome could be in the situation; to look ahead before making an unalterable, life changing move. In
many cases, different people, not just religious, think of the Just War Theory as a plausible cause to
take a look at before sending troops to fight a war that deem not necessary to be fought. In the fall of
2001, September 11, it was a day in infamy, a day that will always be remembered. Terrorist members
attacked the United States through different tactics, and led to an almost never ending difference
between the nations. Just War is the theory that war must have a just cause, which means force may be
used only to correct a grave, public evil. It must also have the right intention, which means that force
may be used only for that purpose, only to correct a wrong doing. It must have legitimate authority:
only public authorities and officers have the ability to wage the war. It must have comparative justice
which means that the goods must outweigh the bads, no matter how bad the other side hurt you. The
probability of success must weigh in to it. How it will be effected overall how much destruction is
expected, how the goods are weighed out by the bads, etc. And finally, is it a last resort. That being
said, force can only be used after there have been peaceful alternatives. All of that being said, the
question of the United States being sent

Essay Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the most frequent cause of death between 1 month and 1 year
of age (Naeye). SIDS is defined as the sudden death of any infant or young child that is unexpected by
it s history, and in which a thorough postmortem examination fails to determine an adequate cause
(Hunt 1987). It is important to consider both aspects of this definition in order not to overdiagnose
SIDS. A mistake of this nature would occur with failure to report a previous history of seizures, or if at
the time of the autopsy a differentiation between suffocation due to rebreathing and SIDS was not
made (Kemp 1993). One of the major characteristics of SIDS is that of silent death , which occurs
during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
to determine if the nucleus of the hypoglossal nerve and the nucleus of the vagus nerve showed any
abnormalities in SIDS patients. These structures were chosen because it is thought that some victims
may have their airway blocked by their tongue during sleep (the hypoglossal is known to control
tongue movements), or that possibly cardiac arrhythmia s may be the cause of SIDS death (due to the
vagus nerve) (Naeye). It was found that there were fewer neurons in the hypoglossal nerve nuclei of
SIDS victims with abnormally small carotid bodies. This could in fact be an explanation for the
obstruction of the airway by the tongue during obstructive apnea (Naeye). An explanation of why
there were fewer neurons was not given.
The human brain is not fully developed at birth (Kopp 1992). This plays a role in the aspect of certain
neurotransmitters which are vital to the human body. It has been demonstrated that in a normal central
nervous system, serotonin declines as well as norepinephrine in the first few months after birth
(Becker 1990). In a study conducted by Hilaire et al., it was postulated that increased levels of
serotonin might be involved in obstructive apnea, leading to SIDS (Hilaire 1992). The reasoning for
this was that serotonin depresses the hypoglossal respiratory output. The results did in fact cause lethal
apneas of newborn rats which were injected with L tryptophan thereby stimulating serotonin synthesis.
There has also been evidence that

Analyzes Of The Present State
2. Analyzes of the present state
2.1 Actual business model employed
The current business model in most stores is similar. Stores rely on low prices, high quality products,
efficient service at the checkout. They put more and more on branded products, improved in terms of
quality, which translates into prices. Proof of this are the ads that not only underline the already low
prices but high quality. Discrepancies in the accounts for purchases starting to show between networks
when the cart will go in addition to products purchased almost every day, including those purchased
less frequently. The different types of shops compete with each other mainly in articles necessities,
those most often bought by the largest number of customers. There is no longer any difference where
you go for bread, butter and milk, because they pay more or less the same.
For example Auchan, its purpose is to create and maintain the lowest offer tailored to each client,
offering top quality goods at the lowest possible prices. The values on which this store achieves its
goals this trust, commitment, care.
Another example is Piotr i Paweł.
The company actively supports educational projects, social, charitable, sports and cultural events. A

Rearing Across Cultures
Raising a child is one of the most beautiful, difficult and rewarding jobs that most people will ever
have. How one chooses to raise their child depends entirely on how one sees fit; however many other
things come into play such as genes, family, culture, and community. Through these environmental
factors each child is raised to a particular norm within a culture; this paper hopes to explore cultural
differences in child rearing across the globe. Bornstein (2012), said that every culture is characterized,
and distinguished from other cultures, by deep rooted and widely acknowledged ideas about how one
needs to feel, think, and act as a functioning member of the culture . Through research we have been
able to understand how different cultures possess different beliefs and engage in different behaviors
that may be the normative in their particular culture, but are not necessarily deemed the normative in
others. Because culture is something that is held sacred to many, ... Show more content on

It is believed that during early childhood development, children that are socialized and raised to be
assertive and self reliant will fair better in life. Acquiring self reliance, autonomy and assertive social
skills is regarded as an important milestone and socialization skill ( Chen et al., 1998). An importance
is placed on development learning theories, and meeting milestones to ensure developmental growth.
Indian:
Indian culture values the importance of family; as do other cultures, however in Indian society
extended families typically all live together in one household. Although mothers normally stay home
in traditional Indian households, grandparents play just as a vital role in the development and caring of
the children. As children age, they then play an important role in the care of the elders in there lives.

Potato Core Osmosis Lab Report
In the Potato Core Osmosis Lab, the main purpose of the experiment was to test the different amounts
of corn syrup on potatoes. A variety of potatoes were distributed and placed into unknown amounts of
corn syrup which range from no corn syrup to 100% corn syrup. Then the following day, the results
were recorded on the size of the potato. Results stated that as the amount of syrup increased, the
smaller the potato got. The hypothesis stated that if the potatoes were placed in a high percent of
syrup, then it would shrink, which corresponds to the results causing the hypothesis to be supported.
Soon results were shared and connections were made. Even though all the results weren t identical, the
numbers still shared similarities as it was only a few decimals off. Most of the initial and final masses
were the same; however, the change in mass varied. These results may relate to a miscalculation or
mistake in using the formula. Although, when the numbers were graphed, all the points increased and
kept the same order. Other researchers had similar problems but overall had the same idea. ... Show

Therefore, if the potato is placed in this type of solution then it will lose its water. Along with that,
there s hypotonic, which means that water is going into the object causing it to grow. This term
corresponds to the potato that was tested to zero percent corn syrup, which is another way of saying
that one of the potatoes was tested in water. As a result, the potato grew and it gives an explanation on
why the potato in Substance A grew. These results were extremely significant because it gives an

Similarities Between Wakeboarding And Snowboarding
Whether gliding through once calm water, or shredding down powdery slopes, being on either one of
these boards is a rush of extreme adrenaline. Wakeboarding and snowboarding both result in many
similarities including aspect and motion. But each of these sports has entirely different aspects as well;
including, surface terrains, locations, weather, and even clothing. No matter the differences and or
similarities of both snowboarding and wakeboarding, they each share a rider with the longing and
passion to strive at being the best they can be performing these sports.
The most significant difference between wakeboarding and snowboarding is the surface terrain. This
factor helps determine which types of tricks preformed and equipment is needed for the two sports.
Snowboarding, of course, takes place on snowy hill tops, giving the rider the ability to glide down the
icy terrain. Snowboarding is the best on packed snow, which means that it must remain cold enough
for snow to stay on the ground for long periods of time. The most preferred riding time is when there
are near freezing temperatures right after a snowfall. Wakeboarding takes place on ... Show more

In order for the rider to float on top of the water instead of being on the bottom of the lake, the board
has to be shorter, wider, slightly thicker, and include fins on the bottom, making it easier to cut

Snowboards look more like skateboards with a narrow longer shape. They are thin with a smooth
bottom making it easier for the rider to glide over the snow without sinking it. Snowboards have two
bindings that are already attached onto the board, and the rider is already wearing the separate boots.
When ready to ride, the rider straps the boots into the bindings before heading down the

The Stem Field Is No Stranger For Advancement And Innovation
The STEM field is no stranger to advancement and innovation. In a thriving age of technology and
science, one could argue that the United States (and many countries throughout the world) have
progressed a long way from the outdated technologies that were used in past decades. Yet, despite the
vast progress made in the stem fields, the demographics of STEM workers are still highly outdated
with its lack of racial and gender diversity. As a result of the growing number of jobs in STEM,
organizations such as Black Girls Code are making steps to prepare minorities for these careers.
The founder of Black Girls Code, Kimberly Bryant, experienced what she calls cultural isolation
during her collegiate years and throughout her career as an electrical engineer. Bryant recalls seeing
very few faces like her own and felt that there was a void in the STEM field that needed to be filled by
the presence of black women. Bryant acknowledges that the lack of black females in STEM is not due
to a lack of interest in the sciences, but is instead due to a lack of resources and lack of exposure
provided to black girls during early education. She set out to meet this need and, thus, Black Girls
Code was created.
Black Girls Code is an organization focused on increasing the number of black girls in the STEM
field. They do so by training black girls, ages 7 to 17, in the field of computer science, also known as
coding. By launching Black Girls Code, stated Bryant, I hope to provide young and

that are fundamental in electronics. It will allow you to investigate and discover:
What are voltage, current, and resistance? How are they related to one another?
What are some of the basic components that make up simple circuits and what do they do?
What are the important characteristics of a circuit and how do I measure different parts of a circuit?
How do I measure voltage in a circuit?

While the DMM can handle this amount of current, you must learn how to use the ammeter portion of
the DMM properly to protect it from blowing a fuse. Shorting voltage sources is dangerous and can
damage the DMM.
Part B: Series and Parallel Circuits 9. These two identical 330Ω resistors are in series with each other.
There is only one path through the circuit from the power source to the ground. In this diagram, the
power source is a 9V battery. One end of the battery has 9V of potential to do work (positive terminal
top). The other end of the battery has zero potential to do work (negative terminal/ground bottom).
(a) Based on your observations, what would you expect the voltage read if you touched the DMM
across both R1 and R2?
(b) Due to the fact that R1 and R2 are identical, what would you guess is the voltage across each
resistor is individually? Why?
(c) We can actually replace these two resistors with one resistor that would have the same impact on
the circuit. (This theoretical resistor is called an equivalent resistor). What would the value of this
equivalent resistor have to be in Ohms (Ω)?
10. Create this series circuit on your breadboard. With both LEDs illuminated, remove one of the
LEDs from the circuit path. What happened and why?
11. You can try 3 LEDs in series but none will light up. Why do you think that is?
12. Components in a circuit can also be arranged in parallel.

Coaching Personal Response
Personal Response Gary Collins provides a plethora of valuable information for individuals in pursuit
of life coaching. The presented literature provides clear and concrete information that easy to apply to
practice. I think the most influential information that Collins describes is the process of growth and the
role of the coach. Tony Stoltzfus states, Coaching is helping people learn instead of teaching them (As
seen in Collins, 2009, p. 19). Coaches are the individuals who walk through the process with their
clients (Collins, 2009, p. 19). I find this concept very uplifting because in my experience as a clinical
intern, my clients expressed how safe they felt knowing I would be there to help guide them. After
reading the assigned text and reflecting on my experience in practicum, I often wonder if I tend to
swap roles as a counselor and a coach during sessions. I say this because in counseling, the counselor
tends to focus on the past and things that have happened to influence their client s present behavior.
However, sometimes I find myself helping the client to create goals for their future based on where
they are in the present. Although, Collins (2009) explains how counselor are typically the experts who
treat patients, provides healing, and directs (Collins, 2009, p. 16). ... Show more content on

Physical Exercise And Mental Exercise Essay
The articles by Erikson et al., Gatz, Korol et al., and Draganski et al. explore the concept of increased
physical activity and/or mental activity having effects on the cognitive function and development or
deterioration of the brain as we age. Although I agree that physical exercise is critical in increasing
cognitive function because of the health benefits it provides, as well as the increased blood flow and
circulation throughout the body, I ultimately believe that a healthy brain is not achieved solely by
physical exercise or mental exercise, but both. I think there is a link between physical and mental
exercise, and that the combination of these two activities creates higher cognitive functioning of the
mind as well as the body. The mind and body come together and meet to make an overall healthy
individual.
The Erikson et al. article supports the idea that physical exercise helps the brain by improving memory
and the size of the hippocampus. Erikson and his colleagues suggested in their study that physical
exercise increases the retention of information and improves learning capabilities. The way they
measured this was by studying the increased or decreased size of the subject s hippocampus and levels
of BDNF. The control group in this experiment completed stretching/toning exercises while the
experimental group did aerobic exercise; the experimental group ended up having a larger
hippocampus volume than when starting out, as well as higher levels of BDNF; the

The Different Organs Of The Cardiovascular System
The Cardiovascular system, also known as the circulatory system, includes the heart and its vessels.
Its purpose is to circulate blood throughout the body and its cells, delivering needed substances and
removing waste. The different organs of the cardiovascular system include the heart and its blood
vessels, which are capillaries, arteries and veins. There are two parts to the cardiovascular system,
pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation. Pulmonary circulation is between the heart and the
lungs. The heart sends deoxygenated blood out the right ventricle through the left pulmonary artery,
into the lungs. The lungs then oxygenate the blood and send it back to the heart through the right
pulmonary artery. The oxygenated blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The heart is divided in half by the septum and has four chambers; right and left atria s and the right
and left ventricles. The heart also has four values to ensure the blood flows throughout the chambers
properly these are called the; tricuspid valve, mitral valve, pulmonary valve and the aortic valve. All
of those are surrounded by the thick wall of the heart with three layers. The endocardium is the inner
smooth layer surrounding each chamber. The myocardium is the thick muscular middle layer, the
muscular wall of this layer allows the heart to contract and pump the blood. The epicardium layer is
the outer layer of the heart. Since the heart is a muscle it also needs its own supply of the blood
circulating around it. Once the blood is oxygenated and travels through the aortic valve. There are two
sets of arteries, the left main coronary artery and the right coronary artery, that bring the blood back
around through the heart muscle. Blockage to any of these arteries will trigger a myocardial infarction,
commonly known as a heart attack. A heart attack will occur when the flow of oxygenated blood is
blocked, stopping the muscle from receiving oxygen. Blockage to your coronary arteries most
commonly occurs due to plaque buildup over time. If left untreated that part of the muscle will die.
Warning signs and symptoms of a heart attack can occur days, even weeks in before the heart attack.

Modern System Of Public Health Services
The concept of the public, health was once compromising as the only governmental public health
agencies. However, modern system of technology and education has brought into today s green light
that, the public health sector, such as Medicaid, schools as well the environmental protection agencies,
plus that of the private sector organizations must be included in the concept. This is because they are
believed to have a very significant role to play in the health of the public. The services of public health
mainly have four components and they include mission, structure, process and outcomes. However,
the services of the concepts entail a lot, and ten of which happens to be the most essential of it all will
be discussed below.
Public health services develop policies and plans that support the efforts of the community as well as
the health of the individual (hhs.gov). And this practice or services include successful, emergency
response and state improvement that comes with community planning, alignment of resources, which
assures a successful planning versus policy development that protects and guide the health of the
public.
Secondly, studies show that, the system link the people in the community to the needed personal
health services they need and assures them of the available provision of care and even when otherwise
unavailable according to the centers for disease control and prevention (03/2014). This also means it
will identify the number of people with barriers to care

My Experience With My Heritage
I was born and raised in America. However, my experiences here would be extremely limited if I
denied my Spanish heritage. I live in America, but my heart and mind are often with my heritage. As a
young, narrow minded child, I grew up like most children. The main difference was that I spent my
summers visiting Europe and learning my language and culture, which has since become sacrosanct to
my identity. Through these activities, I felt myself becoming more different from my classmates and
the kids in my neighborhood. After some years of feeling like a pariah, my family moved to a more
diverse town, where I learned that every culture is different from the music to the mannerisms, and
that I wasn t the only one who was more than just American . Though I felt marginalized at times, I
am grateful to have been raised in America. One of the beautiful things about this country is that one
can be raised here, while still incorporating and being a part of their original culture. I have gained an
appreciation for all the activities and interactions I have experienced, and I see them as parts of a well
rounded education. I have become more accepting of others, grown with a passion for connecting with
and learning from others, and developed a unique, global perspective.

Java Ring
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION The Java Ring is a stainless steel ring, 16 millimeters (0.6 inches) in
diameter that houses a 1 million transistor processor, called an iButton. The ring has 134 KB of RAM,
32 KB of ROM, a real time clock and a Java virtual machine, which is a piece of software that
recognizes the Java language and translates it for the user s computer system. At Celebration School,
the rings have been programmed to store electronic cash to pay for lunches, automatically unlock
doors, take attendance, store a student s medical information and allow students to check out books.
All of this information is stored on the ring s iButton. Students simply press the signet of their Java
Ring against the Blue Dot receptor, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every iButton product is manufactured with a unique 8 byte serial number and carries a guarantee that
no two parts will ever have the same number. Among the simplest iButtons are memory devices that
can hold files and subdirectories and can be read and written like small floppy disks. In addition to
these, there are iButtons with password protected file areas for security applications, iButtons that
count the number of times they have been rewritten for securing financial transactions, iButtons with
temperature sensors, iButtons with continuously running date/time clocks, and even iButtons
containing powerful microprocessors. The java ring was first introduced in the year 1998, in the java

Employee Compensation And Its Impact On The Organization...
Employers are adapting to the expectations of their employees as their performance is more crucial
than ever in our competitive business environments around the globe. Research has indicated that
motivated employees will have a direct impact on the organization s performance levels. By assessing
Goldman Sachs we will attempt to prove those conclusions. Their performance will be assessed by
various components of financial information based on the perspective that a company s responsible for
providing the most amount of money to their shareholders. Then looking into employee compensation,
benefits, and programs offered we can understand why the company has been recognized as one of the
best places to work. Depending on the results we will be able to argue or support the claims developed
by the research we have seen.
Recently employers have been doing their best to empower and satisfy their employees in an effort to
increase organizational performance. This appears to be sound logic, but can it be proved. Over the
long history of business, this has never been done before and companies have been able to perform
well and thrive, so why does this change need to occur? Golden Sachs has been a business for a long
time and has begun engaging in this practice. By assessing Goldman Sachs s performance and their
employee s opinions of the company we can determine if there is a relationship between motivated
employees and high organizational performance. Goldman Sachs is

Innate Response Essay
The immune system is composed of two parts firstly the innate system and secondly the adaptive
system. The innate response is the first line of defence and relies on pattern recognition receptors
(PRRs) to recognise specific pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and provide a rapid
response to the recognised pathogen. This system also has the complement system and phagocytic
cells as its disposal. Pathogens expresses PAMPs which activate antigen presenting cells (APC), such
as dendritic cells (DC), through ligation of PRR (e.g. Toll like receptors) found on the APC surface.
The adaptive immune system, is the specific response against the pathogens. This response begins

DC are crucial in pathogen recognition and initiating specific immune responses to destroy pathogens.
DC phagocytose a diverse selection of antigens and present them to cells as peptides bound to MHC
I/II products.
DCs can be immature or mature, immature DCs are found in tissues throughout the body allowing
them to monitor the surrounding environment for pathogens and can provide a rapid response to any
foreign bodies. DCs become mature when they receive a danger signal through PRRs, during the
maturation process the cells T cell stimulating capacity will increase, it will also increase in size
allowing an increase in levels of cell surface antigens (e.g. MHC class I/II and CD40) which is
important in T cell activation.
DCs will uptake the antigen causing inflammatory cytokines production (e.g. IL 2, INFµ, TNFα) and
chemokines allowing the antigen loaded DC to migrate to lymphoid organs. Once there the naïve T
cells have; the antigen that stimulated specific TCRs and polarising factors that determine which T cell

Religious Diversity
Since their establishments, many universities in the United States of America, as well as elsewhere in
the world, have grown the diversity of their student populations in more than several aspects including
religious diversity. Albeit presented obstacles, this growth represents values of tolerance and freedom
that Americans have generally come to hold in high regard. If one considers narrower communities, a
collegiate institution such as the University of Southern California (USC) boasts its diversity through
admittance of students from countries all over the world; in fact, it holds more international students

At the University of Southern California, as well as greater Los Angeles area, a larger part of the

pluralism because it is intentional about bringing people from different backgrounds together to build

Atherosclerosis Case Study Essay
In the case of an individual needing to abide by a heart healthy nutrition plan, they would be suffering
from some form of heart disease. Two of the most common types of heart disease are Ischemic heart
disease and Inflammatory heart disease. In the case of Ischemic heart disease, this is a heart ailment
caused by the narrowing of the coronary arteries thus resulting in a decreased blood supply to the
heart. Inflammatory heart disease on the other hand is a rather broad term and can be used to
categorize several heart conditions including Atherosclerosis. An individual who suffers from
Atherosclerosis can expect the the walls of their arteries to become thick and stiff because of the
buildup of fatty deposits called plaques. When this occurs, the flow of blood is restricted.
Atherosclerosis can happen throughout the body, for example, in the arteries of the heart it is known as
Coronary artery disease and in the legs it is referred to as Peripheral arterial disease. It is essential that
those suffering from heart disease follow a specific diet however, if they refuse to be cautious, they are
highly susceptible to developing several life threatening complications. One example includes heart
failure, which occurs when the heart cannot adequately pump blood throughout the body. This can

Smoking Should Be Banned In Public Places
Smoking should be prohibited in public places because it causes pollution, is disrespectful to others,
and is dangerous to others due to secondhand smoke. Smoking in a public place should be prohibited.
Public smoking is a large epidemic in the United States that needs to be stopped. Smoking is not just
dangerous to the person who smokes, but to those who are around them as well. The children, the
adults, everyone can be affected by it.
First, smoking causes different kinds of pollution, like ground and air pollution. The air can become
polluted causing it to become hard to breathe. As well as making . it hard to breathe, it causes the air
to stink and brings secondhand smoke. Smokers also tend to leave their butts on the ground, just
flicking them out of their hand onto the ground. The pollution let off by cigarette smoke is 10 times
more polluted than the exhaust given off by a car. The smoke given off by the cigarette has finer
particulates, which is more dangerous.
Second, people chose not to smoke, they personally do not want to deal with it or to be exposed to it.
It is not fair for them to walk outside after shopping, or even outside of a hospital, and walk into a
cloud of smoke. Many times non smoking hotels smell like smoke. This is disrespectful to the owners
of the places. Not smoking in public shows respect for people s thoughts and beliefs. If people chose
not to smoke or not to have it in their buildings, then we need to respect that and not challenge their

Charter Schools Vs. Public Schools Essay
Charter schools are all the buzz in the media lately; they are what seems to be the sensible response to
the path traditional public schools are heading, down the drain. However, charter schools still face
many obstacles and issues, stemming from the fact that they are far less regulated than their public
school counterparts. This enacts issues including lack of quality control, increased segregation, and
severe misuse of funds. Likewise, charter schools are only going to become increasingly more
competitive and higher quality if their closest competitors follow that path, meaning the most
successful charters are the ones compared directly to private schools. Since charters are also
attempting to make a profit, they will go to all extents, including discrimination to bring up the scores,
and therefore gain more leverage in negotiating for more funds. Simply enough, the most logical and
simple way to prevent charter schools from degrading in quality or becoming out of control is to put
more regulation on them, while still allowing them to maintain many characteristics of an independent
charter. The concept of a charter schools was put into place just 25 years ago, in Minnesota. The idea
as letting schools manage their own finances and exist as a separate legal entity were not new, those
ideas had been considered for nearly two decades before the first charter was enacted. (Kahlenburg)

their products are made, how they treat their cutomers and employees). It also shows us interviews

The reason why I m saying they are entrepreneurs is because entrepreneurs they saw an opportunity in
the market and they grabbed that opportunity with both hands. They took a risk and were creative
people (they were the first to realise that customers were impatient people that wanted what they
bought quickly. George Michelle is a leader (I m saying this because a leader is a person who works
along with his team, he doesn t issue tasks and just sit back and watch them perform the tasks. George
Michell in this documentary actually works along with his employees and he stands behind the
counter along with the employees and he takes some of the orders of Mac Donalds). Mac Donald s
uses an autocratic management style, this means that the manager is the one that makes all the
decisions. Mac Donald s is a franchise company, they listen and follow the rules and regulations the
franchisor places (we see this in the documentary when we look at when multiple of people taste the
Mac Donald s product to see whether they ve used the right ingredients. A franchisor states that all
Mac Donald s use the same ingredients). Mac Donald s in the olden days did not follow the King I
report, Mac Donalds only focused on generating profit, they didn t care about the community (people)
and the environment (planet). They also didn t follow the King II report, cause they didn t follow
some of these principles (e.g the Social Responsibility and Transparency), the reason why I m saying
they weren t social responsibility is because back in the days Mac Donald s only focused on profits
not the community (people). Mac Donald s were not transparent because even though they knew that
their products could cause Obesity, they didn t let the customers/consumers know that, they just
carried on selling their products till they had legal issues regarding their products (the super size me

Objective
The purpose of the experiment is to operate an LED through the BeagleBone Black via a push button

operated by exporting pins so they can be read or written to in the C program. A LDR and push button
will be used in conjunction with the exported pins for read and write operations to illuminate the LED
when it s dark and vice versa when it s not. With the use of exporting pins to read and write, the
operation of the LED via the LDR or push button will be determined by opening up the file locations

or turning on the LED regardless of which state the CdS sensor puts the LED in. Your program should
keep track of the exact time the LED is either on or off. Must output the date and time the LED was
turned on or off.
Lab Setup:
Figure 1: Lab Setup
Conclusion
The result of the experiment was a success. The C program used the BBB kernel via paths to operate
the LED as specified. The push button set the system to manual mode and turned off the light if it was
on and turned the LED on if it was off. The second push of the button switched it back to automatic
mode. The turning on and off of the LED also resulted in accurate time stamps of the LED being on or
off.
The lab was pretty simple, however, the process was a little challenging in the beginning. Unlike the
previous labs, we had to configure each pin for our desired functionality, which made it a bit difficult.
The majority time on this lab was spent on configuration of the pins, rather than writing the code.
Questions and Discussion:

The Age And Stages Questionnaire
Introduction Children in the early childhood stage are always striving for independence. They are at
the age where they are learning self control and starting to recognize the needs of others (Ashford
LeCroy, 2013). How do delays in development impact these desires? For my developmental and
biopsychosocial assessment I interviewed a 5 year old boy who I will refer to as John. He was recently
diagnosed with developmental delays, and currently receives speech and physical therapy services.
This paper will explore his assessment using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), as well as
how John s age and environment impacts his development.
Age Assessment Communication
During the assessment John s mother reported that his speech had improved significantly after seeing
a speech therapist for the past year and a half. She also shared that John was not speaking at all up
until February of 2016, and now he uses one or two word phrases. I saw this during my time with
John, where he was unable to form complete sentences. Instead of saying I want a drink he would
point to his cup and whimper. Mom encouraged him to use his words, which resulted in him saying,
drink.
John also struggled with following multistep directions that were unrelated to each other. We started
with an activity where I gave mom three different steps, then her and John preformed them together. I
instructed, walk to the window, touch your head, and come back. John was able to preform all 3

Factors That Have Been Used By Managers
Introduction
There are many theories and strategies that managers used to achieve business success. The strategy
research and practical models assumes that organizations are able to adapt to their environment.
However that is not necessarily the case as there are many examples of mainstream approach that has
been criticised for not taking into account how environments can also constrain individuals and
organisations. Mainstream approach such as organizational ecology and institutional theory is argued
for not considering on how environments are also one of the factors that constrain individual and
organisations which are also known as task environment. Task environment is the external
environment of an organization which affects its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples of strategies that have been used that do not take environment into account are such as
organizational ecology and institutional theory.
Organizational ecology is the combination of organizational demography and the population ecology
of organization which focus on scientific analysis and study of interactions among organisms and their
environment. Organizational ecology utilizes the insights from biology, economics, and sociology, and
employs statistical analysis to try to understand the conditions under which organizations emerge,
grow, and die. This strategy analyse the effects of the environment on organization structure
population. According to the organizational ecology theory by (Dimaggio Powell, 1983) the strategy
research and practical models assume that organizations are able to adapt to their environment.
However this is not always true as the theory did not take account of economics problems such as
sunk costs caused by environmental changes such as the case of The Celler Kefauver Act of 1950 was
just such a shock, in that it opened horizontal and vertical mergers to federal scrutiny and encouraged
firms to spend excess capital on other kinds of acquisitions. Other factors such as not enough

Modern Masculinity And Its Impact On Modern Society
The majority of men are led to the believe that the ability to show weakness is regarded as the most un
male components; this means that vulnerability and openness which are absolutely important for self
exploration or personal development, are recognized as weak behaviors. After all, the modern men
still deal with relatively archaic messages related to the meaning of being a male or a man. For
instance, the society predicts men to be strong at all costs, to be stoic and unemotional, to be rescuers,
and, of course, to consider own work as a key priority (Vermunt). Thus, it is important to provide a
thorough investigation of the current ads in order to identify both positive and negative aspects in
terms of modern masculinity and define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the majority of the recent Super Bowl s ads intend to continue the existing trend in terms
of the exaggerated humor as a specific mechanism implemented in order to deflect the relevant
criticism, despite the fact that they use an openly angry tone and illustrate a natural patriarchal order
on display. After all, images of masculinity that can do double duty with a great variety of consumers,
including both male and female, are not extremely difficult to create in a modern culture, especially if
to pay attention to the fact that the muscular male body has a long and glorious aesthetic history
(Bordo, 178). Hollywood and mainstream media have also began depicting, rather explicitly, male
genitalia often enlarged using padding and photoshop (Bordo, 168). This stands true especially for
advertisement campaigns for underwear. If you compare the pictures of the Calvin Klein underwear
advertisement, you can see how Photoshop is used to give the model seemingly larger genitalia than in
real life. Over years of seeing such advertisements and depictions, it can create a serious impact on the
males viewing such images as it may leave them feeling inadequate or not manly enough even though
such images have been under Photoshop to seem bigger. Such feelings can create real psychological
damage where men may feel that big genitalia constitutes as manly.

How Did Icarus Change Ovid s Life
The story of Daedalus and Icarus, reflected Ovid s changing thoughts and morals of his personal life
as he undergoes the life changing event of getting exiled by Emperor Augustus, through the characters
of the poem. Ovid is born an Icarus, innocent and naive, with no idea of how much danger awaits him
if he chooses to forsake his guide and soar in the boundless sky . Ovid s father planned for him to
become a political official, sending him to Rome to get an education, and then Athens. Ovid s anxious
father planned his future, as Daedalus planned Icarus s, in order to make sure their sons had

Perdix, after being murdered by Daedalus, was turned into the Partridge. The Partridge hides in
shaded places by the leafy trees its nested eggs among the bush s twigs; , writes Ovid himself in
Daedalus and Icarus, nor does it seek to rise in lofty flight, for it is mindful of its former fall. The
Partridge keeps in the bushes, not all the way under the ground in poverty, as Ovid s father thought he
would be, but also not high in the sky, bold and arrogant enough at the success of his career, which
causes him to take risks. The Partridge enjoys a steady life, living the middle way. After Ovid s poem
and a mistake , which he told his readers himself was the reason that he was exiled, he lived a
relatively average life. He was miserable enough at first in his prison, but not because he lived in
poverty, the bottom ground. He lived a relatively comfortable life, treated extremely well by
inhabitants of Tomis, and as stated by Kenney, there are hints in the later poems that Ovid was even
becoming reconciled to his fate when death released him. Ovid continued to write the poetry he so
dearly loved, but they never reached the grand heights of his earlier successes. They attracted less
attention, and made no bold statements anyone might find offensive. The once brilliant genius, Perdix,
who had surpassed even Daedalus himself, had learned

  • 2. In Vincent O’Sullivan’S Finding The Pattern, Solving The In Vincent O Sullivan s Finding the Pattern, Solving the Problem: Katherine Mansfield The New Zealand European, it is noted that Katherine Mansfield was an enthusiast for the cinema , that she acted in several movies and that her letters frequently took up such images as the months that stream by like a movie picture (18). Furthermore, her short story At the Bay begins with the line Very early morning (Mansfield 5), that when interpreted from a literary standpoint, is more suited to a screenplay direction than the opening of a narrative. From studying At the Bay, alongside The Garden Party and Miss Brill, it is evident that her love of cinema influences her own writing, to the point where techniques that are prominently filmic, such ... The big bush covered hills (Mansfield 1) and sandy road with shallow puddles(2) of the opening are made evident that they re not situated by the weed hung rocks and small rock pools (20) of a later section, yet the consistency of the style in which each area is described, the narrative voice wandering from components of the setting, such as the tide to the sunlight (20) to the green binds...in the bungalows (21) and the pawa shells (21), not unlike a montage, unite the set of surroundings by replicating the manner in which they are portrayed. This parallels Citizen Kane s News of the World sequence, a montage that uses accurate renditions of a series of news segments, where newspapers and footage are both crafted to look as authentic and possible, to create a realistic depiction of media coverage that encompasses the globe through the different languages printed on certain newspapers. This of course brings different places together to add to the legibility of the scene and thus its overall realism. Much like Mansfield, Welles uses the idea of consistency and replication in his montage as a way of uniting it to the real world. Yet this montage sequence in Citizen Kane fulfills another purpose. This scene takes place directly after Kane s death, a sombre, moving moment. By directly contrasting that moment with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When implementing new technology within a company, make sure that end users contribute into the design process and that the end user will benefit from the change. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unexpected changes may be disruptive, and leadership may encounter resistance. To manage technology changes the first step is to understand technology dynamics, and resistance it generates. According to Regan and O Conner (2002), managing organizational changes requires understanding the variables and their interdependencies; creating a climate for learning; recognizing new power distributions and handling complexity, ambiguity, and uncertainty. Of course, technology changes take a toll on the employee s morale and managerial time and emotion. Sometimes plans are abandoned because of strong employee resistance or because the managers feel unprepared or unable to implement the changes successfully. (Chapter 11.2.2 Technology Brings Change). e. Communication plans First in order for the goals and objectives of the communications plans to succeed, It is very important that staff involved in this plan are aware of the leaderships support and direction. In addition, leader s needed to speak positively about the project, and the process changes involved the staff should expect. Management needs to speak honestly and listen to all levels of the organization. • 4. Essay On The Christmas Carol I have to say, this play was intriguing to me, with the three interlocking plots, all of which surrounding a common theme; marriages. I am not familiar with this play outside of this class, I had wanted to see the Hollywood adaptation with Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Stanley Tucci, but I never got around to it. To be honest, I didn t identify with any of the characters or the plot itself, which caused great difficulty in choosing an angle for this paper. The planned marriage between the good natured, appreciative Duke Theseus, who makes the best of everything, and the Amazonian queen, the proud, fastidious Hippolyta was interesting, with a Pagan twist, I enjoy Paganism and Pagan Esque mood, scenery, and feel. • 5. Essay on Real Women Have Curves Adam Milkovich Professor David Finley English 101 20 April 2012 Women in Unfair Work Conditions: The Fight Over Independence or Family! The play Real Women Have Curves was written by Josefina Lopez, it depicted the hard ships of immigrant female workers and the power and strength of women working together as one. About a decade later a movie was made. However the movie Real Women Have Curves still shows the same struggles these women in the play face and also shows how strong women working together can be. The key differences from the movie and the play are that they depict two different stories and almost give off completely different messages, especially when the movie has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the play the men are made out as bad guys and Ana is waiting to hear from NYU through financial aid. More so in the movie it is Ana s mom who does not want her to go away to college and make a better life for her only because she want s Ana to grow up how she grew up. Ana strives to be an independent woman who wants to find love. But her mom just wants her to find a husband to take care of her. Ana even goes as far as telling her mother Why is a women s virginity the only thing that matters? I have thoughts, feelings, and opinions. (Real) her mother looks at her weird. On the other hand there is Ana s teacher Mr. Guzman, who sees the benefits from sending Ana to college and leaver her dirty old neighborhood. Mr. Guzman helps Ana out by pulling some strings at Colombia University. He also tells her to apply for scholarships, but when she doesn t he shows up at her house. When she did get into Colombia University the first person to tell her was Mr. Guzman. Ana s mother does not support Ana leaving for college and leaving the family. Even on the day does leave, her mom doesn t even say goodbye to her own daughter. Another difference in the movie from the play is the obvious different points of view. The play is told from Estela s point of view and the movie is shown through Ana s point of view. • 6. Social Justice B Block Essay Hannah Somogie Social Justice B block December 20, 2014 Before waging a war, it is always a good idea to think of what the possible outcome could be in the situation; to look ahead before making an unalterable, life changing move. In many cases, different people, not just religious, think of the Just War Theory as a plausible cause to take a look at before sending troops to fight a war that deem not necessary to be fought. In the fall of 2001, September 11, it was a day in infamy, a day that will always be remembered. Terrorist members attacked the United States through different tactics, and led to an almost never ending difference between the nations. Just War is the theory that war must have a just cause, which means force may be used only to correct a grave, public evil. It must also have the right intention, which means that force may be used only for that purpose, only to correct a wrong doing. It must have legitimate authority: only public authorities and officers have the ability to wage the war. It must have comparative justice which means that the goods must outweigh the bads, no matter how bad the other side hurt you. The probability of success must weigh in to it. How it will be effected overall how much destruction is expected, how the goods are weighed out by the bads, etc. And finally, is it a last resort. That being said, force can only be used after there have been peaceful alternatives. All of that being said, the question of the United States being sent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the most frequent cause of death between 1 month and 1 year of age (Naeye). SIDS is defined as the sudden death of any infant or young child that is unexpected by it s history, and in which a thorough postmortem examination fails to determine an adequate cause (Hunt 1987). It is important to consider both aspects of this definition in order not to overdiagnose SIDS. A mistake of this nature would occur with failure to report a previous history of seizures, or if at the time of the autopsy a differentiation between suffocation due to rebreathing and SIDS was not made (Kemp 1993). One of the major characteristics of SIDS is that of silent death , which occurs during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... to determine if the nucleus of the hypoglossal nerve and the nucleus of the vagus nerve showed any abnormalities in SIDS patients. These structures were chosen because it is thought that some victims may have their airway blocked by their tongue during sleep (the hypoglossal is known to control tongue movements), or that possibly cardiac arrhythmia s may be the cause of SIDS death (due to the vagus nerve) (Naeye). It was found that there were fewer neurons in the hypoglossal nerve nuclei of SIDS victims with abnormally small carotid bodies. This could in fact be an explanation for the obstruction of the airway by the tongue during obstructive apnea (Naeye). An explanation of why there were fewer neurons was not given. The human brain is not fully developed at birth (Kopp 1992). This plays a role in the aspect of certain neurotransmitters which are vital to the human body. It has been demonstrated that in a normal central nervous system, serotonin declines as well as norepinephrine in the first few months after birth (Becker 1990). In a study conducted by Hilaire et al., it was postulated that increased levels of serotonin might be involved in obstructive apnea, leading to SIDS (Hilaire 1992). The reasoning for this was that serotonin depresses the hypoglossal respiratory output. The results did in fact cause lethal apneas of newborn rats which were injected with L tryptophan thereby stimulating serotonin synthesis. There has also been evidence that ... • 8. Analyzes Of The Present State 2. Analyzes of the present state 2.1 Actual business model employed The current business model in most stores is similar. Stores rely on low prices, high quality products, efficient service at the checkout. They put more and more on branded products, improved in terms of quality, which translates into prices. Proof of this are the ads that not only underline the already low prices but high quality. Discrepancies in the accounts for purchases starting to show between networks when the cart will go in addition to products purchased almost every day, including those purchased less frequently. The different types of shops compete with each other mainly in articles necessities, those most often bought by the largest number of customers. There is no longer any difference where you go for bread, butter and milk, because they pay more or less the same. For example Auchan, its purpose is to create and maintain the lowest offer tailored to each client, offering top quality goods at the lowest possible prices. The values on which this store achieves its goals this trust, commitment, care. Another example is Piotr i Paweł. How one chooses to raise their child depends entirely on how one sees fit; however many other things come into play such as genes, family, culture, and community. Through these environmental factors each child is raised to a particular norm within a culture; this paper hopes to explore cultural differences in child rearing across the globe. Bornstein (2012), said that every culture is characterized, and distinguished from other cultures, by deep rooted and widely acknowledged ideas about how one needs to feel, think, and act as a functioning member of the culture . Through research we have been able to understand how different cultures possess different beliefs and engage in different behaviors that may be the normative in their particular culture, but are not necessarily deemed the normative in others. A variety of potatoes were distributed and placed into unknown amounts of corn syrup which range from no corn syrup to 100% corn syrup. Then the following day, the results were recorded on the size of the potato. Results stated that as the amount of syrup increased, the smaller the potato got. The hypothesis stated that if the potatoes were placed in a high percent of syrup, then it would shrink, which corresponds to the results causing the hypothesis to be supported. Soon results were shared and connections were made. Even though all the results weren t identical, the numbers still shared similarities as it was only a few decimals off. Most of the initial and final masses were the same; however, the change in mass varied. These results may relate to a miscalculation or mistake in using the formula. Similarities Between Wakeboarding And Snowboarding Whether gliding through once calm water, or shredding down powdery slopes, being on either one of these boards is a rush of extreme adrenaline. Wakeboarding and snowboarding both result in many similarities including aspect and motion. But each of these sports has entirely different aspects as well; including, surface terrains, locations, weather, and even clothing. No matter the differences and or similarities of both snowboarding and wakeboarding, they each share a rider with the longing and passion to strive at being the best they can be performing these sports. The most significant difference between wakeboarding and snowboarding is the surface terrain. This factor helps determine which types of tricks preformed and equipment is needed for the two sports. Snowboarding, of course, takes place on snowy hill tops, giving the rider the ability to glide down the icy terrain. • 13. The Stem Field Is No Stranger For Advancement And Innovation The STEM field is no stranger to advancement and innovation. In a thriving age of technology and science, one could argue that the United States (and many countries throughout the world) have progressed a long way from the outdated technologies that were used in past decades. Yet, despite the vast progress made in the stem fields, the demographics of STEM workers are still highly outdated with its lack of racial and gender diversity. As a result of the growing number of jobs in STEM, organizations such as Black Girls Code are making steps to prepare minorities for these careers. The founder of Black Girls Code, Kimberly Bryant, experienced what she calls cultural isolation during her collegiate years and throughout her career as an electrical engineer. Bryant recalls seeing very few faces like her own and felt that there was a void in the STEM field that needed to be filled by the presence of black women. Bryant acknowledges that the lack of black females in STEM is not due to a lack of interest in the sciences, but is instead due to a lack of resources and lack of exposure provided to black girls during early education. She set out to meet this need and, thus, Black Girls Code was created. Black Girls Code is an organization focused on increasing the number of black girls in the STEM field. They do so by training black girls, ages 7 to 17, in the field of computer science, also known as coding. By launching Black Girls Code, stated Bryant, I hope to provide young and ... The presented literature provides clear and concrete information that easy to apply to practice. I think the most influential information that Collins describes is the process of growth and the role of the coach. Tony Stoltzfus states, Coaching is helping people learn instead of teaching them (As seen in Collins, 2009, p. 19). Coaches are the individuals who walk through the process with their clients (Collins, 2009, p. 19). I find this concept very uplifting because in my experience as a clinical intern, my clients expressed how safe they felt knowing I would be there to help guide them. After reading the assigned text and reflecting on my experience in practicum, I often wonder if I tend to swap roles as a counselor and a coach during sessions. I say this because in counseling, the counselor tends to focus on the past and things that have happened to influence their client s present behavior. However, sometimes I find myself helping the client to create goals for their future based on where they are in the present. • 17. Physical Exercise And Mental Exercise Essay The articles by Erikson et al., Gatz, Korol et al., and Draganski et al. explore the concept of increased physical activity and/or mental activity having effects on the cognitive function and development or deterioration of the brain as we age. Although I agree that physical exercise is critical in increasing cognitive function because of the health benefits it provides, as well as the increased blood flow and circulation throughout the body, I ultimately believe that a healthy brain is not achieved solely by physical exercise or mental exercise, but both. I think there is a link between physical and mental exercise, and that the combination of these two activities creates higher cognitive functioning of the mind as well as the body. The mind and body come together and meet to make an overall healthy individual. The Erikson et al. article supports the idea that physical exercise helps the brain by improving memory and the size of the hippocampus. Erikson and his colleagues suggested in their study that physical exercise increases the retention of information and improves learning capabilities. The way they measured this was by studying the increased or decreased size of the subject s hippocampus and levels of BDNF. The control group in this experiment completed stretching/toning exercises while the experimental group did aerobic exercise; the experimental group ended up having a larger hippocampus volume than when starting out, as well as higher levels of BDNF; the ... All of those are surrounded by the thick wall of the heart with three layers. The endocardium is the inner smooth layer surrounding each chamber. Smoking is not just dangerous to the person who smokes, but to those who are around them as well. The children, the adults, everyone can be affected by it. First, smoking causes different kinds of pollution, like ground and air pollution. The air can become polluted causing it to become hard to breathe. Public Schools Essay Charter schools are all the buzz in the media lately; they are what seems to be the sensible response to the path traditional public schools are heading, down the drain. However, charter schools still face many obstacles and issues, stemming from the fact that they are far less regulated than their public school counterparts. This enacts issues including lack of quality control, increased segregation, and severe misuse of funds. Likewise, charter schools are only going to become increasingly more competitive and higher quality if their closest competitors follow that path, meaning the most successful charters are the ones compared directly to private schools. Since charters are also attempting to make a profit, they will go to all extents, including discrimination to bring up the scores, and therefore gain more leverage in negotiating for more funds. Simply enough, the most logical and simple way to prevent charter schools from degrading in quality or becoming out of control is to put more regulation on them, while still allowing them to maintain many characteristics of an independent charter. It also shows us the 21st century owners of Mac Donalds, how many Mac Donald s are around the world (the host goes to some of these Mac Donald s and interview their managers and the managers show us how Mac Donald s operates every day, how their products are made, how they treat their cutomers and employees). It also shows us interviews with the employees of Mac Donald s and customers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason why I m saying they are entrepreneurs is because entrepreneurs they saw an opportunity in the market and they grabbed that opportunity with both hands. They took a risk and were creative people (they were the first to realise that customers were impatient people that wanted what they bought quickly. George Michelle is a leader (I m saying this because a leader is a person who works along with his team, he doesn t issue tasks and just sit back and watch them perform the tasks. George Michell in this documentary actually works along with his employees and he stands behind the counter along with the employees and he takes some of the orders of Mac Donalds). Mac Donald s uses an autocratic management style, this means that the manager is the one that makes all the decisions. Mac Donald s is a franchise company, they listen and follow the rules and regulations the franchisor places (we see this in the documentary when we look at when multiple of people taste the Mac Donald s product to see whether they ve used the right ingredients. A franchisor states that all Mac Donald s use the same ingredients). Mac Donald s in the olden days did not follow the King I report, Mac Donalds only focused on generating profit, they didn t care about the community (people) and the environment (planet). They also didn t follow the King II report, cause they didn t follow some of these principles (e.g the Social Responsibility and Transparency), the reason why I m saying they weren t social responsibility is because back in the days Mac Donald s only focused on profits not the community (people). Mac Donald s were not transparent because even though they knew that their products could cause Obesity, they didn t let the customers/consumers know that, they just carried on selling their products till they had legal issues regarding their products (the super size me documentary) then they started selling healthier ... • 32. The Black Via A Push Button And Ldr Using C Code Without... Objective The purpose of the experiment is to operate an LED through the BeagleBone Black via a push button and LDR using C code without libraries besides such as . The pins of the BeagleBone Black will be operated by exporting pins so they can be read or written to in the C program. A LDR and push button will be used in conjunction with the exported pins for read and write operations to illuminate the LED when it s dark and vice versa when it s not. With the use of exporting pins to read and write, the operation of the LED via the LDR or push button will be determined by opening up the file locations and checking the state of the LED and the value of the push button and LDR. The push button will be used to set the system in manual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Use a push button for Manual override. Whenever the push button is pressed, it must allow turning off or turning on the LED regardless of which state the CdS sensor puts the LED in. Your program should keep track of the exact time the LED is either on or off. Must output the date and time the LED was turned on or off. Lab Setup: Figure 1: Lab Setup Conclusion The result of the experiment was a success. The C program used the BBB kernel via paths to operate the LED as specified. The push button set the system to manual mode and turned off the light if it was on and turned the LED on if it was off. The second push of the button switched it back to automatic mode. The turning on and off of the LED also resulted in accurate time stamps of the LED being on or off. The lab was pretty simple, however, the process was a little challenging in the beginning. Unlike the previous labs, we had to configure each pin for our desired functionality, which made it a bit difficult. The majority time on this lab was spent on configuration of the pins, rather than writing the code. Questions and Discussion: What is Rmax and Rmin for your CdS sensor? What is the required resistance, R, for the other half of the CdS voltage divider circuit? The CdS resistance measured in full light was approx. 50 ohms. The resistance measured in a dark lit area was approx. 350k ohms. The range ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. English Comp II Class Analysis January of 2017 I started taking an English Comp II class. I was very hesitant about it because I knew I wasn t so good in writing. Coming into the class with a little bit of knowledge was good but I still am not a good writer or where I should be at this point. All the assignments the teacher give is kind of complicated for me because i just can t come up with ideas to help me start and get through my paper. I wish i could focus better and be able to write papers. Starting off the semester we had little writing prompts to get up going. I remember the first one was writing the Lord s Pray. I do believe that was so difficult for me to do because i keep getting it mixed up with other bible verses even tho i know it very well. It shocked me that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My opinion was basically stating that I liked the fact that i would be increasing my ability to write. I didn t like that i m not able to write essays and paragraphs of that matter off the top of my head like i use to be able to do. Later in the semester i would like to look back on this experience and say I got past this experience with no problem. For the past couple of weeks we have been getting ideas and articles for our research paper. Finding a topic for a research paper is kind of difficult but it gets your mind going. I love researching about things I don t know about and getting more information so maybe one day I can tell some one else about it. Research papers take a lot of time and effort so you can t wait until the last minute to do it. Picking a topic based on your major can be a good thing but it can also be a bad thing. For example; my major is nursing but i want to be a traveling nurse, you really can not find much about traveling nurses and the patients. You can find a lot about registered nurses, LPNs, and nursing assistants. You have to dig really deep so you can find something interesting enough to talk about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Age And Stages Questionnaire Introduction Children in the early childhood stage are always striving for independence. They are at the age where they are learning self control and starting to recognize the needs of others (Ashford LeCroy, 2013). How do delays in development impact these desires? For my developmental and biopsychosocial assessment I interviewed a 5 year old boy who I will refer to as John. He was recently diagnosed with developmental delays, and currently receives speech and physical therapy services. This paper will explore his assessment using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), as well as how John s age and environment impacts his development. Age Assessment Communication During the assessment John s mother reported that his speech had improved significantly after seeing a speech therapist for the past year and a half. She also shared that John was not speaking at all up until February of 2016, and now he uses one or two word phrases. I saw this during my time with John, where he was unable to form complete sentences. Instead of saying I want a drink he would point to his cup and whimper. Mom encouraged him to use his words, which resulted in him saying, drink. John also struggled with following multistep directions that were unrelated to each other. We started with an activity where I gave mom three different steps, then her and John preformed them together. I instructed, walk to the window, touch your head, and come back. John was able to preform all 3 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Factors That Have Been Used By Managers Introduction There are many theories and strategies that managers used to achieve business success. The strategy research and practical models assumes that organizations are able to adapt to their environment. However that is not necessarily the case as there are many examples of mainstream approach that has been criticised for not taking into account how environments can also constrain individuals and organisations. Mainstream approach such as organizational ecology and institutional theory is argued for not considering on how environments are also one of the factors that constrain individual and organisations which are also known as task environment. Examples of strategies that have been used that do not take environment into account are such as organizational ecology and institutional theory. Organizational ecology is the combination of organizational demography and the population ecology of organization which focus on scientific analysis and study of interactions among organisms and their environment. Organizational ecology utilizes the insights from biology, economics, and sociology, and employs statistical analysis to try to understand the conditions under which organizations emerge, grow, and die. This strategy analyse the effects of the environment on organization structure population. According to the organizational ecology theory by (Dimaggio Powell, 1983) the strategy research and practical models assume that organizations are able to adapt to their environment. However this is not always true as the theory did not take account of economics problems such as sunk costs caused by environmental changes such as the case of The Celler Kefauver Act of 1950 was just such a shock, in that it opened horizontal and vertical mergers to federal scrutiny and encouraged firms to spend excess capital on other kinds of acquisitions. • 36. Modern Masculinity And Its Impact On Modern Society The majority of men are led to the believe that the ability to show weakness is regarded as the most un male components; this means that vulnerability and openness which are absolutely important for self exploration or personal development, are recognized as weak behaviors. After all, the modern men still deal with relatively archaic messages related to the meaning of being a male or a man. For instance, the society predicts men to be strong at all costs, to be stoic and unemotional, to be rescuers, and, of course, to consider own work as a key priority (Vermunt). Thus, it is important to provide a thorough investigation of the current ads in order to identify both positive and negative aspects in terms of modern masculinity and define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, the majority of the recent Super Bowl s ads intend to continue the existing trend in terms of the exaggerated humor as a specific mechanism implemented in order to deflect the relevant criticism, despite the fact that they use an openly angry tone and illustrate a natural patriarchal order on display. After all, images of masculinity that can do double duty with a great variety of consumers, including both male and female, are not extremely difficult to create in a modern culture, especially if to pay attention to the fact that the muscular male body has a long and glorious aesthetic history (Bordo, 178). Hollywood and mainstream media have also began depicting, rather explicitly, male genitalia often enlarged using padding and photoshop (Bordo, 168). This stands true especially for advertisement campaigns for underwear. If you compare the pictures of the Calvin Klein underwear advertisement, you can see how Photoshop is used to give the model seemingly larger genitalia than in real life. Over years of seeing such advertisements and depictions, it can create a serious impact on the males viewing such images as it may leave them feeling inadequate or not manly enough even though such images have been under Photoshop to seem bigger. Such feelings can create real psychological damage where men may feel that big genitalia constitutes as manly. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. How Did Icarus Change Ovid s Life The story of Daedalus and Icarus, reflected Ovid s changing thoughts and morals of his personal life as he undergoes the life changing event of getting exiled by Emperor Augustus, through the characters of the poem. Ovid is born an Icarus, innocent and naive, with no idea of how much danger awaits him if he chooses to forsake his guide and soar in the boundless sky . Ovid s father planned for him to become a political official, sending him to Rome to get an education, and then Athens. Ovid s anxious father planned his future, as Daedalus planned Icarus s, in order to make sure their sons had prosperous steady lives. (Ovid) At first both sons were cooperative; but then emboldened by their success they started taking risks./ Icarus soared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perdix, after being murdered by Daedalus, was turned into the Partridge. The Partridge hides in shaded places by the leafy trees its nested eggs among the bush s twigs; , writes Ovid himself in Daedalus and Icarus, nor does it seek to rise in lofty flight, for it is mindful of its former fall. The Partridge keeps in the bushes, not all the way under the ground in poverty, as Ovid s father thought he would be, but also not high in the sky, bold and arrogant enough at the success of his career, which causes him to take risks. The Partridge enjoys a steady life, living the middle way. After Ovid s poem and a mistake , which he told his readers himself was the reason that he was exiled, he lived a relatively average life. He was miserable enough at first in his prison, but not because he lived in poverty, the bottom ground. He lived a relatively comfortable life, treated extremely well by inhabitants of Tomis, and as stated by Kenney, there are hints in the later poems that Ovid was even becoming reconciled to his fate when death released him. Ovid continued to write the poetry he so dearly loved, but they never reached the grand heights of his earlier successes. They attracted less attention, and made no bold statements anyone might find offensive. The once brilliant genius, Perdix, who had surpassed even Daedalus himself, had learned ...
