Telephony is evolving as new technologies emerge. While VoIP posed a threat to traditional telephony services with its focus on cheap calls, it failed to address the real customer demands that telcos were meeting. The business model for telephony is changing as new platforms like mobile devices and social networking become integrated with communication. For telcos to remain relevant, trans-sector innovations will be required to meet the evolving needs of customers across different domains like home, office, applications and content.
