eircom wanted to transform its billing and support systems (BSS) to offer integrated bundles and digital services. Bohill was hired as project lead to manage the complex transformation programme on time and on budget. Bohill fully integrated with eircom resources and managed vendors to help eircom realize its strategic goals. The programme was successfully delivered, transforming eircom's BSS and enabling it to offer new multi-play offers and support future business needs. The managing director of eircom praised Bohill's key role in the project's success.

Programmable telecoms is a complementary element in many enterprise mashups that typically require accessing external platforms, data and web content. A roundup of pre-mashup essentials.
The current telecom ecosystems, especially the SMS ecosystem, need to evolve to facilitate and accelerate the new innovations coming from these mashups.
There’s an urgent need for a new participatory platform built for matching the two-sided market (enterprises and telcos). Alternative visions – to vote on. Welcome to CPaaS 2.0.

Telestax Keynote: API and Fly: CPaaS enablement, creating a B2B ecosystem with Applications and Networks using APIs
Kevin Nethercott, VP Business Development at TeleStax
We are now in the midst of a major industry transition as communication becomes a feature built into a wide range of apps, experiences, and services, rather than simply a product unto itself. With key enterprise customers increasingly seeing new CPaaS (Communications Platform as a Service) companies as a means to more efficiently consume carrier resources, while enabling innovation - traditional carriers and service providers are keen to add API driven solutions to their own portfolios. Faced with the choice of buy, build, or partner, one of the strategic trends is the emergence of marketplaces where carrier service providers and app developers can join forces to deliver exciting solutions for customers. Will CPaaS put even more competitive pressures on service providers, or give them new ways to compete, collaborate, and innovate?
This presentation will discuss
* What key problems CPaaS solves for service providers
* What are the technical skills CPaaS demands
* Why a marketplace for CPaaS enables innovation
* How to successfully embrace the CPaaS opportunity and thrive

The TADS story continues: platform transformation and new partnerships
I presented at a recent sales conference for a large security / IT solution provider on the evolution of the telco industry and the role security and protection plays in that evolution.
In summary: customer data, trust, security and protection are critical for operators to get right in this emerging environment.
Operators need an integrated security and protection layer, not point solutions for each service as is the case today. Protection from malware across all network services e.g. IP, SMS, MMS, WAP push, widgets, apps, etc. Protection in the network, in devices and in services.
SDP vendors need integrated security solution across network, services and end-points, which means a partnership with security / IT providers is key. Its a rapidly growing problem as its a highly profitable and more importantly safe criminal business compared to drugs smuggling or prostitution; hence a specialist security/protection partner is essential.

Keynote Abstract: Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) envisions and promises to change the service provider landscape and has emerged as one of one of today’s significant trends. Although less than two years old, NFV has garnered the industry’s full attention and support. Moving swiftly, a number of key accomplishments have already taken place, and a lot more work is currently under way within ETSI NFV while we are embarking on its future phase. Various proofs-of-concepts (ranging from vEPC to vCPE, vIMS and vCDN) are being developed while issues such as open source and SDN are becoming key ingredients as the can play a pivotal role.

Analyzing telecommunications data for improved customer experienceComarch
What is customer experience and how can Telecom operators improve it? A loyal customer is a customer that trusts its Telecom operator and can rely on the network. Transparency and communication are key factors that can improve the customer experience.
Evolution or Revolution? Strategies for Telecom Billing TransformationFlorian Gröne
As the telecom industry looks to improve the customer experience in all aspects of its business, the billing process is finally getting the attention it has long needed. Critical as it is to replace these old systems, the huge scale and daunting expense of such projects—easily approaching US$100 million and more—have made many operators reluctant to proceed. Operators must analyze their particular needs and business models, and then choose one of an evolutionary or a revolutionary approach.
Electric power companies are no exception when it comes to the flood of data now available to support business decisions and practices. To leverage the value in that flood rather than being overwhelmed, new automated analytic systems are critical. This presentation describes an environment that allows the deployment of robust automated systems that integrate data from disparate sources and present targeted proactive notifications and enterprise wide dashboard visualizations.

Network Function Virtualization (NFV) using IOS-XRCisco Canada
Network Function Visualization (NFV) is being heavily adapted in Service Providers, Enterprise Network, and data center market segments. IOS-XRv 9000 and IOS XRv offer NFV functionality leveraging Cisco IOS-XR's already proven and time-tested deployment of this network OS in the field. The session will go over the fundamentals of NFV, introduces virtual flavors of IOS-XR and their use cases as virtual Route Reflector (vRR) and virtual Provider Edge (vPE), as well as demonstrate how these use-cases bring improvement and efficiency to the network implementation. In this session the attendees will be offered a hands-on experience of deploying IOS-XRv 9000 in a virtual environment, explore its basics, and configure it as a virtual device.

HMRC’s IT Transformation Program Exceeds its Annual £161m Savings TargetCapgemini
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) was created as a merger of the Inland Revenue and HM Customs & Excise, creating one of the largest IT infrastructures in the UK. They linked up existing technology and added new systems according to new operational and business requirements, but maintenance costs and managing interdependencies left little IT budget for further change.
HMRC therefore needed a smaller, cheaper, more modern IT estate, but lacked the investment budget normally needed to deliver a large transformation program.
Find out how the Aurora program transformed HMRC’s IT estate, without capital investment and helped them exceed their running cost savings target of £161m a year.
1. Programme Management of a
BSS Transformation for EU Telco:
from separate service silos to integrated bundles
and digital economy services
Challenge
eircom through their ambitious BSS Transformation Programme wanted to reposition itself as an innovative
integrated service provider and one stop shop for communications and entertainments services.
The scale, complexity and high profile nature of this programme required a team with the experience and
expertise to not only deliver the change, but also do so cost effectively and with a clear, shared vision and
commitment to success. It was identified that to meet this challenge that a best in class programme and project
management capability was required.
Solution
Bohill as Project Lead assisted eircom in realising its strategic objectives and realisation of their return on
investment. Bohill was responsible for supporting the programme during a critical stage, managing vendor
delivery, meeting the requirements of key stakeholders and helping to ensure the on time delivery of latest
bundled quad-play services.
Bohill managed eircom resources, solution vendors and SMEs on
behalf of eircom. Bohill fully integrated with eircom’s resources to
provide seamless project management across all workstreams to
meet eircom’s strategic objectives.
Specific initiatives were implemented to ensure cost containment
for delivering services post programme closure.
Opportunity Realised
eircom’s strategic BSS transformation programme successfully
delivered a new customer care and billing system across NGA and
TV, FMC and CRM & Billing for consumer and small business
markets. The programme has enabled eircom to support a number
of critical business changes; improving short-term revenue,
operations and bringing complex multi-play offers to the Irish
Market.
Bohill directed eircom’s BSS transformation project; a programme
which has delivered value exceeding expectations. eircom now
has a platform for the future that supports current and future
needs, including wholesale/retail, complex multi-play offers, quick
launches of new products, multi tenanted offerings and digital
economy services. Bohill was a key factor in the success of this
project.
“Bohill continue to provide
top quality best in class
consultancy services which
work seamlessly within
eircom with the highest of
integrity.
Bohill have played a key role
in what has been achieved.
I would not hesitate to use
Bohill again or indeed would
openly recommend them
highly."
