secret revealed in the paintings of Boccioni and Malevich. Boccioni and Malevich are famous artists
and they have many famous paintings of their own. Color is something that changes the mood and
paintings. One can differentiate a paintingfrom another by use of colors which are specific to a
painter. The use of colorin paintings of Boccioni and Malevich are different in technique, types of
color and paintings. Boccioni and Malevich are two great painters. Boccioni is an artist, one of
the sculptors of the Italians in early 20 century. Boccioni was born in Italy, on 19 October 1882 in
Reggio Calabria. He is a pioneer of school futurism. He drew a lot of famous paintings that are still
until now, for instance, dynamisms of a soccer player, state of mind and self portrait. In February

Comparison Of 1930 And 1940 s Inventions
In the 1930 s and the 1940 s, there were many new and creative inventions that make life easier
today. Just imagine life without television, a microwave, or even air conditioning. Well, thanks to
the 1930 s and 1940 s you aren t devastated and grateful for what you have. In the early 1930 s air
conditioning was invented by Willis Carrier. It was not like the air conditioning we have today,
back then the air conditioning systems were not aimed at human comfort, however they were
designed to control the humidity. Another inventionthat many people use today is colored television.
In 1940 CBS began experimenting with color field tests using films as early as August 28, and live
cameras by November 12. One of the greatest inventions

highly dependent on other countries. If those countries decide to cut the cord, there will be no
product creating a loss. Many new proposed laws for 2011 are in the workings to minimize these
issues, with regards as to how the government would like to handle them. Outsourcing in the near
future will be focused on smaller projects while using more suppliers. A reduction in large contracts
is the goal for many, which in turn will leave more opportunity for entrepreneurs and even larger
organizations. The benefit is, more options will be available and the contracts can be closely
manipulated for the good of others. Offshore Outsourcing in Technology with Regards to the
American WorkerDisposition of Offshore Outsourcing The United Statesis one of the largest
powers in the world when it comes to offshore outsourcing. However, many economists wonder if
it is actually beneficial or destructive to the American workforce. One of the more predominant
reasons outsourcing has become popular is due to overall savings of costs. These cost savings
have proven to raise overall productivity, and have allowed everyone from small business owners to
corporate giants to advance into the next generation of technology. Some economists classify
offshore outsourcing as international trade between countries leading to a large profit margin for
both parties included. Gregory Mankiw is an American Macroeconomist that

social security Essay
In reading the book Social Security and the Family I learned a lot about the system that I had no
idea about before. The book was fact filled and almost fun to read the need to know information.
I gained much knowledge in the specifics of why the social security system is in need of reform,
and why it will be inadequate in the years to come. One of the reasons our social security systemisn
t working is because, Social Securitywas modeled on the single earner, marriedcouple family (1).
Times have changed dramatically since then.
When assessing the issues and current structure of the security system for change,
Four elements characterize the objectives of most tax expenditure programs, including Social ...

This absolutely violates the principle of horizontal equity. The fourth and final objective
discussed is efficiency, which translates into trying to achieve the greatest good for lowest cost.
One measure of efficiency is whether the effect of additional earnings on lifetime benefits of a
couple is the same when only on spouse works and when both spouses work (182). This also
stems back into our class discussions in the subject of economic efficiency and how being most
efficient when the consumer (Social Security beneficiary) and the producer (Social Security
system funds) are both at a surplus. Before reading the books I never anticipated being able to
connect it to the Public Policy class so readily. More importantly these policies mustn t be
overlooked .
The central argument of the book is to solve the problem of insufficient funds. Our system now is

The Life of Larry Bird
Many people wish for greatness; Larry Bird worked for it until he achieved it, particularly in
basketball. Basketball has always been a fast paced, exciting game to watch. The sport has even
been nationally televised for decades. The game has gained special popularity because of its
superstars. National Basketball Association (NBA) superstars are recognized by many as the most
recognizable pro athletes. Larry Bird was one of the most famous stars of the league, and his
popularity greatly increased the publics interest in the league. Larry Bird s fame and basketball
success was brought about by his hard work and competitiveness.
It all began on December 7, 1956, in a rural Indiana town called West Baden; Larry Bird was born
(Borden n. pag.). His family s life in West Baden and French Lick was anything but glamorous.
However, Bird said, I just never realized how poor we were. Nobody in French Lick was wealthy
(Borden n. pag.). This poor community lifestyle led to his eventual interest in basketball, as he and
his brothers couldn t afford other entertainments. They instead competed against each other in any
sport they could. Larry s brothers helped him improve as a player by beating him so badly that he
wanted to practice his skills in order to beat them (Borden n. pag.).
As he grew up, Larry began to also excel in high school basketball. He drew a great amount of
interest from his community

The Tragedy Of The Commons
The Tragedy of the Commons American Earth: Environmental Writing Since Thoreau is a diverse
yet interconnected collection of essays by renowned environmentalist authors who have been
influential in literature, religion, science, and politics. Each piece has a specific purpose and role
that it plays in conveying ideas and themes. Many authors share their personal opinions on issues
such as the world s declining forests, the extinction of species, such as birds in Gene Stratton
Porter s The Last Passenger Pigeon (192), and their intimate experiences with nature, such as Julia
Butterfly Hill s The legacy of Luna (907). However, the most influential essay in this book is The
Tragedy of the Commonsby Garrett Hardin (438). A multitude of pieces in this book tie into the
tragedy of the commons and support its ideas in one way or another.
In his essay Hardin discusses how the rapid decline of the world s common places, such as natural
animal pastures, are the result of rapid, uncontrolled human population growth. Hardin suggests that
environmental problems such as deforestation, crowding out of native species, loss of resources,
pollution, poor job economy, etc., are the result of the loss of common spaces. He indicated that
common spaces used to be plentiful enough for every person to have an abundant share, but that
was when the human population was smaller than the current population of 7 billion people. Hardin

How Culture Affects Financial Reporting And Auditing With...
Abstract In today s society, the international trading constitutes an increasingly significant portion
of the world economy than ever before. Having opened more subsidiaries in different countries and
invested in foreign markets, companies and investors are more exposed to problems reading
accounting records and auditing reports composed under different accounting principles. To better
understand the reason behind the accounting diversity, we need to dig into countries different
cultural background which imposes great influence on formation of accounting and auditing
principles and ways people practice. This paper will analyze how culture affects financial reporting
and auditing with the support of classic culture theories and facts. Introduction International
accounting, a term given birth by modern society, is a concept which encompasses all function
areas of various accounting principles and practices followed by every nation in the world. The
international accounting consists of three different levels. First level is the supranational level
which signifies principles, standards and guidelines of accounting, auditing and taxation issued by
supranational organizations such as UN, OECD and IFA (International accounting, Timothy and
Hector, 2011, P1). The second level is the company level which denotes the principles and
techniques that people follow to report transactions and evaluate foreign companies performance.
The third level, the broadest one, can be viewed as the

My Experience In A Restaurant
Looking back, I can still recall the countless days that I spent in my family s restaurant. For
twelve hours every single day of the week, I spent the majority of my time alone at a corner
table. My mom was always occupied with leading the stream of faces, pouring through the doors,
to their tables and attending to their needs. On the other hand, my dad would be busy operating
the large woks, rounded cooking pans, over scorching red flames in order to keep the food trays
in front of the kitchen doors filled. Even though my parents were always around me, I had to spend
most of my timeby myself. I would spend the dull lengthy periods I had doodling on menus,
building with Legos and crafting action figures out of eating utensils and rubber bands. Although
I came up with many activities to shorten the long days, my constantly changing thirst for
entertainment could not be quenched. I remembered one day; I ran into the back of the
restaurant to complain to my dad. I told him that the parents of other kids have jobs as well, yet
they still spend time with their kids. and, it was not fair for me to have my parents to say that
they were too busy to see my drawings and praise my creations. Fatigued and sweaty, my dad
briefly stepped back from the heat of the woks and said, make use of the opportunities that you
have now so that you won t regret it in the future. Not surprisingly, I was a dumb little kid and I
stormed out of the kitchen with clenched fists, teary eyes, red face

Lawlessness And Savagery In Jack And Jack s Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies is about a group of boys stranded on an island that must work together to survive
and get rescued. At first, civilization still has a firm grasp on the boys, and they have rules to
follow and a plan to get rescued. However, as time goes on, lawlessness and savagery begins to set
in, as they re just a pack of boys. The death of two of the wisest boys on the island, Piggy and
Simon, shows a real turn of events and signals that the boys have finally turned savage. Evidently,
no matter how polished and civilized the boys may seem, at the end of the day when the boys are
stripped to their cores, their crueler nature shows.
Jack and Ralph work together, at least at the start, to keep everyone fed and happy. They create
rules to keep law and order, and have a conch that they blow to assemble everyone. At the very
beginning, the boys vote for a chief to lead the tribe. Seems to me we ought to have a chief to
decide things...with dreary obedience the choir raised their hands...every hand outside the choir
except Piggy s was raised (22 23). Showing how the boys want a leader who does things, they pick
a leader that s rather charismatic and represents, at least to the little uns, the government.
Time passes, and cracks begin to show in the tribe. Law and order is starting to break down. Jack

Social Welfare Policy Of America
Social welfare policy that is seen throughout America today has roots that are hundreds of years old.
The modern policy in America has been based on five fundamental traditions that were brought
from Britain when they colonized North America. Those five traditions are Calvinism, Localism,
controlling the mobility of the workforce, reliance on poor houses and work houses, and less
eligibility. These traditions will be defined and then connected to the influence they have had on the
modern American social policy.
Calvinism is the first social policy tradition that the British brought to America with them. The
idea of Calvinism allowed the poor to be understood per their character. When working hard and
prospering an individual was destined to be rich; however, if an individual was poor and suffering
that was what they were destined to be. Calvinism brought light to the idea that an individual s
station could be improved if they were hard working and had the capability to save money. While
the social mobility was suggested, Calvinism also looked at poverty in a way that had to with the
poor individual s moral failings as the cause of the poverty that the individual experienced (Blau
Abramovitz, 2014).
In modern social welfare policy, Calvinism can be seen during President Reagan s time in office.
He saw those that failed and were relying on social welfare programs as getting what they deserve.
During his time in office, he condemned most of the social welfare programs,

Treatment Of Pituitary Gigantism Is A Rare Endocrine Disorder
Treatment of pituitary gigantism Nolan Coburn BIOL 2458, Mustafi Raisi, October 12, 2016
Introduction Pituitary gigantism is a rare endocrine disorder in which the anterior pituitary
releases an excess of growth hormone (GH) during childhood before the epiphyseal plates close,
causing abnormal increased somatic growth in the patient, occurring usually because of a pituitary
tumor, also called an adenoma (Goldenberg et al. 2009). There are several treatments that can
usually prevent pituitary gigantism or halt the rapid growth if caught early enough. These
treatments include drug therapy, surgical removal of the adenoma, and radiation therapy (Flitsch
et al. 2000). It is crucial that pituitary gigantism is detected and treated before excessive growth
occurs, as it can cause uneven and abnormal growth in the extremities, facial deformities, severe
headaches, blindness, and a shortened life expectancy (de Herder 2008). However, if treated soon
enough, patients can live a long, healthy and happy life. Below, I will detail the different methods
of treatment and how they work. Body Detecting GH secreting pituitary adenomas in young
children before pituitary gigantism occurs is of utmost importance, as gigantism is irreversible
once the extreme growth occurs. Besides just accelerated growth, there are several signs of
gigantism. These include excess perspiration, extreme body odor, coarse facial features, and
thickened skin, just to name a few. Pituitary gigantism is

are all different, they provide income to the city in way of taxes, employment to our citizens, and
understanding how each operates and prices their goods can help this city prepare for its financial
future. We will need to analyze each market separately to show the differences and the similarities

Tawney s Essay Some Reflections Of A Soldier
Many people think that the absolute best way to relate to a relative or the best way to resolve
internal conflict, is through talking it out. In some cases this may have validity, but not in the case
of veterans. Family members inserting their assumptions and probing their returning loved ones is
not only prevalent today, but goes all the way back to World War I
, and likely occurred before then
as well. While of course there is value in communication, many veterans do not want to talk about
their experiences, and shouldn t be forced to do so. They also should not have to explain
themselves to those who think they understand what is going on. My assertion is this: Family
members should not push their loved ones to talk about war, nor should they assume that they
understand what they have gone through. While recognizing that communication is valuable and
that without talking the civilians could never even begin to try to... Show more content on

This is made evident in Tawney s article, Some Reflections of a Soldier. Tawney makes some very
important assertions as to why civilians do not understand. He recognizes that the soldiers have
changed and that is partly why the civilians cannot understand, but he also presents the notion that
the civilians have changed where the soldiers have not (Tawney 22). Soldiers experience a great deal
of change while they are away at war, they experience things they cannot explain. The change
inside the civilians though, makes it even harder for them to understand these unexplainable
things. The civilians have formulated these ideas and images inside their heads of what they think
the war is like. Whether it be from the news, articles, books, or other outside sources they have

Myths Are A Valuable Source Of Archetypes Of Human Attitudes
Myths are a valuable source of archetypes of human attitudes, themes and symbols. Myths not only
deepen people s knowledge about life and beliefs of the ancient Greeks, but also present the image
of the contemporary worldview and system of values. They represent attitudes and patterns of
timeless values, and raise the universal content. One of the most frequent themes of myths is the
context of suffering. Suffering is not onlyt the domain of people, but suffering also affects gods and
goddesses. Although Niobe and Demeterbelonged to a fellowship of queens and goddesses, just
like mortals they had to cope with adversity; they struggled with vices, and suffered pain.
Moreover, they were subjected to fate as every human beings.
In mythology mothers were portrayed as a mother earth and mother giving rise to all lives and
mankind. However, sometimes they were presented as those who suffered due to fate s adversity
.Niobe, daughter of Tantalus, the wife of Amphion, proud mother of many children (according to
some sources mother of twelve, and according to other sources of fourteen children) demanded the
honor equal to the mother of Apollo and Artemis. She did not understand how people can worship
Leto who had only two children. Niobe, proud of her motherhood, drew Leto s wrath on herself.

Hydraulic Jump Experiment Essay
Hydraulic Jump Experiment
SUMMARY
The Objective of this experiment is to observe the flow patterns and behaviour of the water before
after the jump Also to quantify the energy lost due to a hydraulic jump. The observed and
theoretical ratios of upstream and downstream depths will be compared, this will show the
limitations to purely theoretical analysis.
The experiment showed that a hydraulic jump occurs when when liquid at high velocity

that can not be neglected. A hydraulic jump is commonly used to dissipate energy, and reduce the
downstream velocity.
To calculate the specific energy at the two separate heights this equation is used:
E = h1 + q2/2gh12(6)
The total energy loss can be derived as
О”E = E1 E2(7)
To find the height of the jump between the smallest and largest heights:
О”h = h2 h1(8)
Finally, the length of the hydraulic jump is given by:

Importance Of Cultural Awareness In The Philippines
Life is a very complex thing. Throughout time we have seen the evolution of the human race.
During that time people have had to adapt to their environment in order to survive. This
eventually gave birth to the many customs and diversities we see today. As the children of these
generations we tend to take this for granted. Since some cultures have evolved faster than others,
we tend to forget the hardships our predecessors worked so hard to achieve. This is where
understanding what culture awareness comes into play. If a person wants to truly honor their
culture, they will constantly practice it. Respect should be the number one priority in every
culture. People should be able to give their opinion, however it should never be given in an
offensive manner. This is why cultural awareness is a huge deal within our world. No matter
where one is, generations and sacrifice created the regions we know today. One of those regions
that catches my attention is the Philippines. The terrain of the Philippines is very interesting to
say the least. These islands are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire which gives them the origin of
being mountainous and volcanic. The land of the islands are mainly composed of swift running
streams and very coastal plains. Even though the islands contain many rivers and plains, a few of
them are large and very difficult to navigate. The archipelago of the islands includes over 7000
island and the land has an area of 300,780 kmВІ (Maelstorm,

Discussion Marketing Moissanite Essay examples
Findings of Fieldwork Interview analysis When conducting our interview, we separated the
questions based on our marketing research objectives. We felt this would be the best way to sort
through the information so we could best address our objectives. To investigate the motivation
behind women buying fine jewellery We decided that it was first best to determine the frequency
with which respondents wear jewellery, which gave us an insight into the frequency of jewellery
use in the target market (respondents were all females aged 18 50). After discovering that of 38
respondents, 32 wore jewellery every day we were able to determine that the management issue was

Following on from this, we asked respondents about their preferred method of purchase when
purchasing a gift for someone other than themselves. A considerable amount (25/38) said that
they would certainly prefer to buy in store when shopping for a gift. The significance of which,
for MoiMoi is that in store advertisements would be more effective if associating moissanite with
ideas such as the perfect gift . Whereas, web advertisement may be focused more on purchase for
one s self. (Q8, Appendix 4.1) Finally, to determine the purchase decision process of the consumer,
we asked whether consumers shop around for jewellery when purchasing, or if certain jewels spoke
to them . This was asked in order to determine how often jewellery is not researched, but rather as a
result of effective marketing instantly sold for all intensive purposes in the eyes of the consumer.
The results showed that more often than not, consumers would stumble upon jewels that they had
to have. This reinforces the idea that the industry is built entirely on the aesthetic, with
gemmological properties having a minimal effect on consumer perception of gems. (Q9, Appendix

objective, we determined that it would be best to ask respondents what they believed to be their
most valued product attribute when purchasing fine jewellery. Twenty seven responses related to the

CHAPTER 3 During the Colonial Society in the 18th Century many things happened Colonial
Growth, Economic Boom, and the diverse branches of religion growing. Germans , Scott Irish

government was present but only white male owners were limited to participate in the voting
process. Everyone that wasn t a slave in this society had the opportunity to move up in social
status. It was a patriarchal society during 18th Century that consisted of the men running the
household and the family business. Whether you were in the upper class or not consisted if you
had slaves working for you. Britain was controlling when it came to having a great exponential in
exporting, they didn t want America to succeed more than them and input laws. Religion divided
sectors of the colonies when the diverse religions arrived and discrimination was faced. Authority
of Religion was lost during this time especially Anglican because the King of England was the
head of the Church and therefore, many stopped seeing him as leader. In the Colonies the Cultural
life was very much well adopted from England due to it s habitants. The time of The Enlightment ,

discrimination and employee working conditions. Along with these ethical issues there are also
management issues outlined Corporate Greed and an issue Human resource. This resulted in loss
of thousands of dollar for the seven eleven employees, non employees experiencing sudden loss

This practice was being continued because majority of workers were visa students who didn t

Computer Hacking
Computer hacking is the practice of modifying computer hardware and software to accomplish a
goal outside of the creator s original purpose. People who engage in computer hacking activities
are often called hackers. Since the word hack has long been used to describe someone who is
incompetent at his/her profession, some hackers claim this term is offensive and fails to give
appropriate recognition to their skills.
Computer hacking is most common among teenagers and young adults, although there are many
older hackers as well. Many hackers are true technology buffs who enjoy learning more about how
computers work and consider computer hacking an art form. They often enjoy programming and

If you are interested in protecting your home computer against malicious hackers, investing in a
good firewall is highly recommended. It s also a good idea to check your software programs for
updates on a regular basis. For example, Microsoft offers a number of free security patches for its
Internet Explorer browser.
Issues
A number of issues arise in considering hacking from the educator perspective. First, we need to
consider the fact that the public perception of hackers is mixed, and that hacking and being
considered a hacker can be quite appealing to students who are going through developmental
periods in which they are defining themselves, as well as challenging authority and rules. There
is often a Robin Hood mentality to early actions, though it is unclear exactly who the poor are,
and how they are beingcompensated . Second, the anonymity of actions which hackers perform
against others often enhances the severity of actions. For example, an adolescent who would
never consider picking someone s pocket or physically damaging someone else s property or
home, might be quite willing to steal people s credit card numbers or destroy poorly protected
business or government files, since files and credit card numbers are not tangible entities, and the
damage is done anonymously.

Mlb and steroids
Introduction
This presentation will be evaluating and answering the following questions:
Could MLB argue that it is not an enforcement agent, and it has no way of determining whether
every player is using steroids at any given time?
Does this argument excuse any responsibility on the part of MLB?
Do you see any rationalizations for the steroid use or the lack of an effective policy on its use in
MLB?
What is the responsibility of MLB and the players to young people who are using steroids?
Discuss the Canseco allegations that MLB just wanted revenue and turned a blind eye to steroid
use. Apply the various social responsibility theories to this point and discuss the flaws in this

No! The MLB could not argue that it is not an enforcement agent, due to the fact that Congress was

the amount of teenagers using steroids. The Committee Chairman went to the ...Baseball

Commissioner Kuhn to do that (Jennings, 2012, p. 139). In spite of this, three decades went by

Anesthesia Essay examples
Anesthesia was developed in order to block or prevent pain during medical procedures. Anesthesia
has been the backbone of the medical world for around 100 years now. Early anesthetics were
primitive and many patients simply did not trust anesthetics. Anesthesia is still a risky process even
in todays advanced medical world. Anesthesiais not used to treat or diagnose any specific disease;
the sole purpose is to aid both the patient and surgeon through procedures. However, anesthesia is
used in different ways based on the magnitude of the procedure. There are three levels of anesthesia
which include; local, regional, and general anesthesia. An anesthesiologist determines which type of
anesthesia will be needed. Local anesthesia... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For regional anesthesia, a local anesthetic will be injected into a nerve.[1] The anesthetic will then
affect a series of nerves. The anesthetic blocks pain by interrupting nerve transmissions, also known
as action potentials.[3] Action potentials occur at a constant rate within the body. Action potentials
occur between nerve cells and all the body to feel pain. A nerve cell has a negative charge at a
resting state due to negatively charged proteins within the cell.[3] Although the inside of the cell
contains positively charged potassium ions as well, overall the charge is still negative. Along with
potassium on the inside of the cell, positively charged sodium ions are located around the exterior
of the cell.[3] When an action potential occurs, the cell becomes even more negatively charged. In
turn, this causes sodium transport molecules in the membrane of the cell to open.[3] Sodium will
then enter the cell during active transport. The positively charged sodium will cancel out the
negatively charged active potential which will depolarize the cell. This allows neurotransmitters to
transfer from cell to cell.[3] These neurotransmitters are what allows the body to feel pain. Local
anesthetics work by diffusing through nerve fibers. Once they ve reached the cells, they block the
sodium transport molecules in the cell.[2] Therefore neurotransmitters cannot transfer information
from cell to cell and the feeling of

More importantly, cyberbullying has deeper influence than physical bullying because it may
involve in a wide range of audiences within short time period and give high pressure to victims
psychologically. For the traditional physical bullying, it refers to the physical altercations or
perhaps verbal abuse from others, so victims of traditional physical bullying might feel safe at

My Personal Teaching Style And My Student s Learning Styles
I thoroughly enjoyed the reading, Learning and Teaching Styles In Foreign and Second Language
Education by Richard M. Felder Eunice R. Henriques. I have related this reading selection to my

student that I work with.
The students on my caseload have disabilities that range from the following: verbal, sensory,

Most of my students have specific learning disabilities that relate to the basic psychological
processes that involve, understanding or using spoken or written language, which may contribute to
their ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell and to perform mathematical calculations.
One of my students, who I will refer to as, JV has a behavior disorder. It s important to note that
children with behavioral disorders do not necessarily have learning disabilities. JV is achieving
above grade level with his reading fluency, yet requires ongoing support with behavior issues. To
be specific, he is constantly making noises, will get out of his seat and roam about the room, lose
focus and begin talking about different things that interest him. It is very difficult for JV to
maintain focus for long unless a stimulating environment is provided.
I decided to reach JV by providing material that is of interest to him. Stories that relate to his

The Death Of Jean Pierre Grumbach
Born in Paris in the middle of World War I, Jean Pierre Grumbach knew he wanted to be a
filmmaker at a very early age. After receiving a PathГ© Baby camera at the age of seven, he went
on to create the equivalent of thirty short movies in various formats for friends and family by the
time he turned twenty. His burgeoning career and dreams of being a filmdirector were interrupted
by Nazi Germany and the Second World War, but instead of evacuating to the United Kingdom he
stayed in his homeland and fought, wisely changing his last name to Melville after his favorite
author. Now a veteran of the Resistance in Nazi occupied France, Jean Pierre Melville later used
his love of filmmaking and American gangster movies, accompanied by his disdain for the
domineering French cinema establishment, to invent an entire genre of films and inspire an army
of young directors to ignore conventional methods and embrace their own creations in their own
unique ways.
THE ACCIDENTAL ICON
From the beginning, Melville caught the attention of audiences and critics with his hardboiled
crime noir films both in terms of storytelling and filming techniques. So much so that writers
coined a term for his films and those soon to follow by others directors as the French New
Wave, and Melville was the Godfather. Part of Melville s motivation for this new style was his
intense dissatisfaction with the imperious demands of the Director s Guild as he personally defined

Informative Speech On Phobias

A psychological literature reported a 9 year old Hispanic American boy who has the fear of buttons.
This problem results in the inability to dress himself and demonstrated poor performance in school
due to an excessive preoccupation with not touching his school uniform or touching anything that
his button touched. When he is at home, he avoided wearing clothes with buttons and prevents
himself from touching buttons that others wore. His fear of buttons begins when he accidently

BODY OUTLINE
I.There are three causes of phobias
A.Phobias may be memories passed down genetically by ancestors
1.Memories can be transferred to one generation to another through gene transfers that allow
offspring to inherit the experience of their ancestors. The information is transferred biologically
through chemical changes that occur in the DNA. For example, the fear of arachnid like spiders,
ticks and mites and the defence mechanism develop from it may be inherited genetically.
2.Nature Neuroscience Journal published a research that shows a mouse trained to become scared
of cherry blossoms smell before they are allowed to breed, produce offspring that show the same
fearful response towards the cherry blossom although they only encounter it for the first time.
3.Dr Brian Dias from Emory University stated that their result enable them to understand how the
experience of their parents, before conceiving offspring can influence the structures and functions in
the nervous system of following generations

GDP In The United States
GDP is used as an indicator to know how the economy is doing in a specific year. If GDP rises,
we assume that the economy is growing and vice versa, but is it really taking into account all the
factors necessary to estimate the well being of our economy? This has been a controversial issue
for decades, because some people believe that GDP leaves many factors out when calculating the
welfare of the economy, such as income distribution, environmental sustainability, and non market
transactions.
First we need to define what is GDP and how is it measured. According to Chan (2013) GDP is a
measure of the output of all final goods and services produced in the United States of America in a
given year. Now, GDP can be measured in two ways: by adding... Show more content on

This is really worrying, because GDP misses a lot of factors that affect in the standard of living
of people. For example, GDP only focuses in what is being produced, but does not worries how
this product are being produced and why they are produced that way, so many companies to
lower the cost of production, use unsafe methods that end up producing harm to the earth. An
example of these are the companies that use coal to make electricity. The amount of pollution
they expel into the nature is really high. According to Carrington (2015), ВЁThe International
Energy Agency calculates that one in four of these sub critical plants must close within five
years, if the world s governments are to keep their pledge to limit global warming to 2CВЁ. This
problem not only affects the environment, but also has an effect on people s lives. The quality of
life of the society as a whole is lowered because of the pollution, people may suffer from cancer
or respiratory diseases. And if the production of electricity gets higher then GDP also rises, but
the quality of life is getting lower. It also does not consider non market transactions, an example
being when you hire someone to tutor your child in math, GDP takes into account this
transaction and therefore GDP rises, but what if you do on your own? Many people complain
about this, because in this case GDP does not take into account what is being measured. Also
volunteering work is not included in the GDP. But it does not end there, any transaction made in
the black market, because is not reported, it s left out. As mentioned before, GDP do not take in
to consideration the distribution of income in society, as a consequence of this GDP cannot
distinguish if the GDP is rising for good reasons like more investment or more income, or for bad
reasons. Therefore the inequality in society is not projected in the

Maxine Hong Kingston s `` No Name Woman ``
Being an author of several praised works, Maxine Hong Kingston has been deemed a noteworthy
American writer since her first book debuted. Her unique style and interesting blend of myth and
truth in memoir form garnered her international attention and won her several awards. Kingston s
works have put heavy emphasis on her familyhistory and her experiences as a Chinese American,
so it is no surprise that she has been received well by many and misunderstood by others at the
same time. A discussion on one of her most popular works, No Name Woman , and a look at the
different ways Kingston s works have been interpreted should reveal how literature can have
different meanings depending on what one is looking for.
Kingston was born in October of 1940 in the Californian city of Stockton and since her parents were

Kingston s parents, as her father went from teaching to working in a gambling house and her

Effects of Advertising Essay
Every day, the average person watches three hours of television, reads between five to ten
magazines or newspapers, and listens to the radio for five hours (WOW). While doing this, a part of
what he experiences are advertisements that come on at an average of every ten minutes. These
advertisements are usually used to persuade the costumer to buy something. They also might be
used for the listener to do something that the advertisement is asking. Sometimes these
advertisements can be hidden messages between or in television programs. This paper is a serious
investigation in educating the reader about the effects of advertisement. This investigation will
include looking at how advertisingbegan, the actual purpose of advertisement, the... Show more

This printing press idea quickly spread throughout Europe and later to the Americas (YouHis2).
Afterwards, around the 1700s, when the use of newspapers began to be an everyday publication,
advertisements started being printed in them, even if the advertisements were simple at the time.
Newspapers became the first medium to be conquered by advertisement. In 1721, Benjamin
Franklin founded the Pennsylvania Gazette, the second newspaper made in the Americas. What
was special about it is that it had pictures accompanying the ads to help the people understand better
their product, which was the difference with his close relative, The Boston Gazette, which had
pictureless ads (YouHis3). Since the eighteenth century, most newspapers have relied on
advertisements for part of their profit, and they have been developing advertising bit by bit.
Following the example of the newspapers, radio programming began using advertisements. These
advertisements were very slow and repetitive sonnets that companies used to get people to know
their products. These advertisements started in the late 1800s, with their lengths being fairly short.
They never extended past a minute. To compensate for the brevity of the ads, companies would
repeat the same ad many times between radio programs.
Then, the invention of television came along. Advertisements on television captivated everyone s

Types Of Local Governments From The United States
Module 6: Institutions of Local Government Jim McGrath Bowling Green State University
Abstract Describe some of the different types of local governments found in the United States.
Why are there so many local governments in the United States Are some types more effective than
other types? According to the text, why is the idea of Regionalism a good one? Is Dillon s rule a
good idea? Why or Why not? INSTITUTIONS OF LOCAL GOVERNEMT All states institute
actions by which local governments are produced, through their laws or constitutions. (Zimmerman
1983) Most are created through state statutes, allowing citizens in a geographic area who require
local services; others are created by state action called charters. The U.S. Census Bureau developed
two classifications for local government, General Purpose and Special Purpose. General Purpose
local governments are identified as counties, municipalities, and townships. Special Purpose
Governments include special districts and school districts. Counties (US Census n.d.) Organized
local governments authorized in state constitutions and statutes, providing general government.
3031counties in 48 states utilize county governments (excludes CT. RI. and DC.) Louisiana uses
the term Parish and Alaska uses the term Borough . Primary concerns for service delivery are
inconsistent from county to county, as well as the size and number. Generally they have more
mandates, less discretionary funds, and more are

Where Men Win Glory, by Jon Krakauer
Where Men Win Glory is an ironic euphemism for war. The title is ironic because there is nothing
glorious about war or the way it ended Pat Tillman s beautiful life. Jon Krakauer orchestrates this
masterpiece with his diligently, articulated descriptions and with a timeline sewn together from the
threads of two worlds. The author s style can best be characterized by his challenging, precise
diction and his ability to fluently intervene pertinent quotes and facts that further persuade the
reader toward his cause. Throughout the book, the author s tone harnesses resentment towards the
militant hierarchy; for through its ingenuousness, deceit, and manipulation, the military uses Pat s
death as propaganda to bolster the war s support.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where Men Win Glory epitomizes the ideal environment for a family to thrive and advance. As
a child, Pat and his brother were left to their own devices when playing in their expansive
backyard. With few TV channels and an infinitesimal media presence, Pat and Kevin
experienced a nurturing home that instilled positive virtues and allowed them to grow as human
beings from an early age. This enabled them to be who they were mature, sophisticated, and
virtuous human beings. Even with that being said, sometimes one must undergo a momentous
change to hasten the learning curve Pat was no exception. Change is a hackneyed clichГ© for
what can truly be a life altering metamorphosis into something special. Perhaps the greatest
contributor to a great man, change solidified Pat s resolve, aided him in reevaluating his
priorities, and humbled his reckless demeanor. This was completed in a month s work a month
Pat spent in a juvenile detention center. When he finally emerged from the bleak confines of
seclusion with people much worse than him, he realized who he was and that this was not him.
If such an experience would affect more people in this manner, crime and terrible people would
be a thing of the past; however, the world is not a perfect place which makes people like Pat even
more respectable. For, beneath the polite façade of so many, few are half the man Pat Tillmanwas.

Joseph Heller Catch 22 Analysis
Historically, America s involvement in war has been met with opposition. The Vietnam and
Korean Wars were unpopular with many United States citizens due to the fact that the country had
no personal reason for involvement, as they were not attacked. However, attacks on American
soil have been known to bring rise to a large sense of nationalism. Following the attacks of
September 11, 2001, America came together to fight the war on terrorism. Likewise, America was
drawn into World War Two after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. American literature would not dare
speak ill of American involvement in World War Two. Unlike any author in his time, Joseph Heller
who opposed war himself voiced the anxious, absurdist, outrageous reaction of a generation... Show

Heller has publically expressed his disagreement with war, as he spoke his objection to the idea of
American intervention in Vietnam (Najarian) in many interviews. In the novel, he expresses his
contempt for war in multiple ways. The book has many instances of comedic language that
many call black humor, a dark and absurd type of comedic writing many find appaling. However, in
a 1972 interview with Richard Sale Heller took pains to make it clear that he was not a black
humorist: First of all, I don t like the term black humor. I like to think of it as sour sarcasm or ugly
satire. I don t like comedy for the sake of comedy (Pinsker 379). When he does use comedy, Heller
has a purpose. In Catch 22, Heller makes his purpose to send a sublte message obvious as he
employs a more comedic manner to convey disdain for the army ( Catch 22, Literature 70).
Yossarian is so desperate to get out of the war that it starts to become something of a joke as the
story is progressing. At one point, Yossarian [runs] right into the hospital, determined to remain
there forever rather than fly one mission more than the thirty two missions he had (Heller 205).
To the reader, it is comedic that Yossarian is going to such great lengths to get out of combat.
This clear use of comedy sends Heller s anti war philosophy in an effective way. Not only does
Heller speak out against war in his novel, but he also effectively communicates his belief that
institutions such as the military, big business, government, and religion are corrupt ( Catch 22,
Novels 90) by using multiple literary devices. The corruption is being mirrored in the book as
Yossarian is learning of the new regulation for the number of missions that must be flown before
one is considered for discharge from service: Fifty missions, Doc Daneeka [tells] [Yossarian],
shaking his head. The colonel wants fifty missions

Those often included in these psychological studies are completely unaware of the ultimate damage
that is being done to them. Though a handful of those who participate in these unethical tests are

be to their mental health. The main reason for their almost unreasonable amount of trust given is
the fact that the tests [were believed] to be professionally and confidentially administered
(recruitloop.com,1), along with the fact that some even believed that they weren t being tested on
at all. This was extremely common throughout the tests of MK Ultra, a series of experiments

Summary Of The Histroy Of Hoovervilles
The three excerpts, separately written by Janet Hutchison, Gail Radford, and Kenneth Jackson,
altogether describe the progression of the United States housing system, and the contexts
surrounding it, through the first half of the 20th century. Hutchison argues that the efforts of
Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United Statesas well as a former Secretary of Commerce,
in reforming the housing policy are largely overlooked, partly because his name evokes the image
of Hoovervilles ; however, under his leadership, the suburban ideal, a whimsical notion that
permeated nationwide during the interwar period, became an integral aspect of the American
identity, and this in turn helped the subsequent leaderships cement federal programs that

Copenhagen Essay
Copenhagen, written by the renowned author Michael Frayn, is a captivating and out of the
ordinary play. The play happens to be based mostly in Copenhagen, Denmark. Frayn s Play takes
place in the afterlife, as three characters reminisce and try to sort through particularly interesting
details of their lives, including the infamous meeting between two of the characters; Werner
Heisenbergand Niels Bohr. Copenhagen proved to be a much more difficult read than expected,
with very little logic and no set plot. There tended to be some organizational errors, and a problem
with the clarity of the overall play, and use of language. Three characters by the name of Werner
Heisenberg, Niels Bohr, and Margrethe Bohr, are able to come together and... Show more content on

Frayn use of the blending of the characters lines prove to be a bit too much, as you had to pay
attention much more deeply to understand who was saying what and who started the original line:
Heisenberg: All the same, I don t tell Speer that the reactor... , Margrethe: ...will produce
plutonium.... Therefore the logic of the play is somewhat contradicted. Frayn seem to have made
Margrethe, Bohr s wife, represent the general audience, and with her around the two men put
everything in layman terms for Mrs. Bohr. There were instances in the play when Margrethe acted
as somewhat of the stage directions that are usually in plays, that inform the audience and actual
characters what is being one: Margrethe: So they re walking again, He s done it, and if..... On the
other hand there were some organizational issues that presented itself with Copenhagen being a
play. There was a particular matter; the play did not include stage directions, which indicate
gestures, or movements of the characters. It is only the communication between the words that the
characters are saying. The author Michael Frayn also appeared to not include exits or entrances in
the play, as Copenhagen was a single conversation between the two Bohr and Heisenberg and at
times Margrethe. Also there were some

Ethical Dilemmas In Nursing
According to Perry and Potter (2014) Ethical Dilemma is a conflict between two sets of human
values, both of which are judged to be good but neither of which can be fully served. Nurses
regardless of what healthcare setting they work and of where they function in wide ranging roles,
face ethical dilemmas on their daily practices. Ethical behavior depends on several factors because
what a person consider as moral may vary from another individual s approach to the situation.
Resolving an ethical dilemma requires deliberate, critical, and systematic thinking because ethical
decisions that are made could have an impact to nurses, patients and families as well. (Potter, 2014)
Therefore, an orderly process is used by healthcare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

do about it. Surprisingly, the wife initiated a CPR to his husband who has an advance directive
with a DNR order, this arises an ethical dilemma.
Gather all information relevant to the case As mentioned above, an advance directive is a legal
document in which allows the patient to make decision for himself such as stating the amount and
type of medical treatments the patient wishes to receive, and will be carried out in the event where
the patient will be incapable to decide for himself or unable to communicate or if death is imminent.
(Potter, 2014) This is created ahead of time to prevent confusion later on. Healthcare providers need
to maintain the patient s right for autonomy, and supporting patient s decision regardless of what
they may be. Furthermore, an advance directive form is used to tell or request to the attending
physician that a patient doesn t want to be resuscitated. (Am Fam
Physician, 2010) The DNR order is then placed in the patient s medical record so that

Evolution And Evolution Of Evolution
What is the theory of evolution? Many people who don t understand science or Biology
don t know how to answer this question. Evolution is the process of biological change by which
descendants come to differ from their ancestors. In our society today, there is many conflicts
that exist between creationism which is the belief that a higher power created the Earth and
made living things and the theory of evolution. Some people are debating whether to teach
evolution in schools because the subject is very touchy to others. In other areas of the world,
there is wars against religion and evolution. I am on both sides. I don t really care about either
because they both sound pretty good to me. Evolution makes sense to me. I like the history of
evolution. It s so cool to see how different species have evolved throughout time.
#1) Chapter 10.1 10.5, p. 280 301 (Early Scientist s observations, Darwin s
Observations, Theory of Natural Selection, Evidence of Evolution, Evolutionary Biology Today)
There are many scientists and people that study evolution and it s wonders. The most
well known was Charles Darwin who traveled to the Galapagos Islands and observed
evolutionary changes in different species or a group of organisms that are very similar to each
other that they can reproduce and have children , but there are four major ones that we should
learn about in biology class. The first guy was Carolus Linnaeus was a Swedish Botanist who

HIV
What is HIV/AIDS?
HIV stands for Human immunodeficiency Virus. This virus weakens a person s ability to fight

one would be most susceptible to any and every illness. A person with the loss of 200 and more

Outsourcing American Jobs Essay
Introduction Outsourcing of American jobs overseas is displacing American s in the United
States. American blue collar workers and the Middle Class American will soon be a word of the
past if the US government continues outsourcing the low skill jobs overseas.
One of the concerns in regards to the outsourcing of jobs is that wages of American jobs versus the
wages of the Chinese, Japanese, Indians and Philippians are much less. If these workers were
using the same identical technology and having the same identical skills were paid the same
wages, there would be no problem. (Greene, 2006) It s also believed that if the US continues to
trade freely with the overseas countries then the powerful drag of their far lower wages will ... Show

It is a concept that has evolved from a manufacturing perspective to a strategic perspective, which
views the concept as a way for organizations to focus and be more competitive. The basic premise
of outsourcing is that a specialist organization can perform a particular service more efficiently
than can internal operations because a specialist organization has an inherent advantage in
producing and delivering a service. Superior technology, management skills, or economies of
scale may contribute to this perception. The type of sourcing relationship depends on whether a
long term or short term need exists. To save funds used for benefits for regular employees,
temporary workers are hired. In this case, the organization (outsourcer) provides all necessary
resources except the workers, who are provided by the vendor. For long term services, the vendor
has full responsibility for delivering the service; the outsourcer provides only a liaison.
The Negative As with so many global trends, there is significant disagreement over the implications
of global competition in services for American prosperity and competitiveness. Many people are
pessimistic about the impact of offshore outsourcing at a time when American workers are having
more difficulty finding employment, since it creates personal hardships, reduces the tax base and
increases demands on our safety nets. Competitors from lower wage nations, it is feared, could put

Just imagine life without television, a microwave, or even air conditioning. Well, thanks to the 1930 s and 1940 s you aren t devastated and grateful for what you have. In the early 1930 s air conditioning was invented by Willis Carrier. It was not like the air conditioning we have today, back then the air conditioning systems were not aimed at human comfort, however they were designed to control the humidity. Many new proposed laws for 2011 are in the workings to minimize these issues, with regards as to how the government would like to handle them. Outsourcing in the near future will be focused on smaller projects while using more suppliers. A reduction in large contracts is the goal for many, which in turn will leave more opportunity for entrepreneurs and even larger organizations. The benefit is, more options will be available and the contracts can be closely manipulated for the good of others. Offshore Outsourcing in Technology with Regards to the American WorkerDisposition of Offshore Outsourcing The United Statesis one of the largest powers in the world when it comes to offshore outsourcing. However, many economists wonder if it is actually beneficial or destructive to the American workforce. One of the more predominant reasons outsourcing has become popular is due to overall savings of costs. These cost savings have proven to raise overall productivity, and have allowed everyone from small business owners to corporate giants to advance into the next generation of technology. Some economists classify offshore outsourcing as international trade between countries leading to a large profit margin for both parties included. • 5. social security Essay In reading the book Social Security and the Family I learned a lot about the system that I had no idea about before. The book was fact filled and almost fun to read the need to know information. I gained much knowledge in the specifics of why the social security system is in need of reform, and why it will be inadequate in the years to come. One of the reasons our social security systemisn t working is because, Social Securitywas modeled on the single earner, marriedcouple family (1). Times have changed dramatically since then. When assessing the issues and current structure of the security system for change, Four elements characterize the objectives of most tax expenditure programs, including Social ... The fourth and final objective discussed is efficiency, which translates into trying to achieve the greatest good for lowest cost. One measure of efficiency is whether the effect of additional earnings on lifetime benefits of a couple is the same when only on spouse works and when both spouses work (182). This also stems back into our class discussions in the subject of economic efficiency and how being most efficient when the consumer (Social Security beneficiary) and the producer (Social Security system funds) are both at a surplus. Before reading the books I never anticipated being able to connect it to the Public Policy class so readily. More importantly these policies mustn t be overlooked . It all began on December 7, 1956, in a rural Indiana town called West Baden; Larry Bird was born (Borden n. pag.). His family s life in West Baden and French Lick was anything but glamorous. However, Bird said, I just never realized how poor we were. Nobody in French Lick was wealthy (Borden n. pag.). This poor community lifestyle led to his eventual interest in basketball, as he and his brothers couldn t afford other entertainments. They instead competed against each other in any sport they could. • 8. The Tragedy Of The Commons The Tragedy of the Commons American Earth: Environmental Writing Since Thoreau is a diverse yet interconnected collection of essays by renowned environmentalist authors who have been influential in literature, religion, science, and politics. Each piece has a specific purpose and role that it plays in conveying ideas and themes. Many authors share their personal opinions on issues such as the world s declining forests, the extinction of species, such as birds in Gene Stratton Porter s The Last Passenger Pigeon (192), and their intimate experiences with nature, such as Julia Butterfly Hill s The legacy of Luna (907). However, the most influential essay in this book is The Tragedy of the Commonsby Garrett Hardin (438). A multitude of pieces in this book tie into the tragedy of the commons and support its ideas in one way or another. In his essay Hardin discusses how the rapid decline of the world s common places, such as natural animal pastures, are the result of rapid, uncontrolled human population growth. Hardin suggests that environmental problems such as deforestation, crowding out of native species, loss of resources, pollution, poor job economy, etc., are the result of the loss of common spaces. He indicated that common spaces used to be plentiful enough for every person to have an abundant share, but that was when the human population was smaller than the current population of 7 billion people. Abstract In today s society, the international trading constitutes an increasingly significant portion of the world economy than ever before. Having opened more subsidiaries in different countries and invested in foreign markets, companies and investors are more exposed to problems reading accounting records and auditing reports composed under different accounting principles. To better understand the reason behind the accounting diversity, we need to dig into countries different cultural background which imposes great influence on formation of accounting and auditing principles and ways people practice. This paper will analyze how culture affects financial reporting and auditing with the support of classic culture theories and facts. Introduction International accounting, a term given birth by modern society, is a concept which encompasses all function areas of various accounting principles and practices followed by every nation in the world. The international accounting consists of three different levels. First level is the supranational level which signifies principles, standards and guidelines of accounting, auditing and taxation issued by supranational organizations such as UN, OECD and IFA (International accounting, Timothy and Hector, 2011, P1). The second level is the company level which denotes the principles and techniques that people follow to report transactions and evaluate foreign companies performance. • 10. My Experience In A Restaurant Looking back, I can still recall the countless days that I spent in my family s restaurant. For twelve hours every single day of the week, I spent the majority of my time alone at a corner table. My mom was always occupied with leading the stream of faces, pouring through the doors, to their tables and attending to their needs. On the other hand, my dad would be busy operating the large woks, rounded cooking pans, over scorching red flames in order to keep the food trays in front of the kitchen doors filled. Even though my parents were always around me, I had to spend most of my timeby myself. I would spend the dull lengthy periods I had doodling on menus, building with Legos and crafting action figures out of eating utensils and rubber bands. Although I came up with many activities to shorten the long days, my constantly changing thirst for entertainment could not be quenched. I remembered one day; I ran into the back of the restaurant to complain to my dad. I told him that the parents of other kids have jobs as well, yet they still spend time with their kids. and, it was not fair for me to have my parents to say that they were too busy to see my drawings and praise my creations. Fatigued and sweaty, my dad briefly stepped back from the heat of the woks and said, make use of the opportunities that you have now so that you won t regret it in the future. Not surprisingly, I was a dumb little kid and I stormed out of the kitchen with clenched fists, teary eyes, red face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Lawlessness And Savagery In Jack And Jack s Lord Of The Flies Lord of the Flies is about a group of boys stranded on an island that must work together to survive and get rescued. At first, civilization still has a firm grasp on the boys, and they have rules to follow and a plan to get rescued. However, as time goes on, lawlessness and savagery begins to set in, as they re just a pack of boys. The death of two of the wisest boys on the island, Piggy and Simon, shows a real turn of events and signals that the boys have finally turned savage. Evidently, no matter how polished and civilized the boys may seem, at the end of the day when the boys are stripped to their cores, their crueler nature shows. Jack and Ralph work together, at least at the start, to keep everyone fed and happy. They create rules to keep law and order, and have a conch that they blow to assemble everyone. At the very beginning, the boys vote for a chief to lead the tribe. Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things...with dreary obedience the choir raised their hands...every hand outside the choir except Piggy s was raised (22 23). • 12. Social Welfare Policy Of America Social welfare policy that is seen throughout America today has roots that are hundreds of years old. The modern policy in America has been based on five fundamental traditions that were brought from Britain when they colonized North America. Those five traditions are Calvinism, Localism, controlling the mobility of the workforce, reliance on poor houses and work houses, and less eligibility. These traditions will be defined and then connected to the influence they have had on the modern American social policy. Calvinism is the first social policy tradition that the British brought to America with them. The idea of Calvinism allowed the poor to be understood per their character. When working hard and prospering an individual was destined to be rich; however, if an individual was poor and suffering that was what they were destined to be. Calvinism brought light to the idea that an individual s station could be improved if they were hard working and had the capability to save money. While the social mobility was suggested, Calvinism also looked at poverty in a way that had to with the poor individual s moral failings as the cause of the poverty that the individual experienced (Blau Abramovitz, 2014). In modern social welfare policy, Calvinism can be seen during President Reagan s time in office. He saw those that failed and were relying on social welfare programs as getting what they deserve. Treatment Of Pituitary Gigantism Is A Rare Endocrine Disorder Treatment of pituitary gigantism Nolan Coburn BIOL 2458, Mustafi Raisi, October 12, 2016 Introduction Pituitary gigantism is a rare endocrine disorder in which the anterior pituitary releases an excess of growth hormone (GH) during childhood before the epiphyseal plates close, causing abnormal increased somatic growth in the patient, occurring usually because of a pituitary tumor, also called an adenoma (Goldenberg et al. 2009). There are several treatments that can usually prevent pituitary gigantism or halt the rapid growth if caught early enough. These treatments include drug therapy, surgical removal of the adenoma, and radiation therapy (Flitsch et al. 2000). It is crucial that pituitary gigantism is detected and treated before excessive growth occurs, as it can cause uneven and abnormal growth in the extremities, facial deformities, severe headaches, blindness, and a shortened life expectancy (de Herder 2008). However, if treated soon enough, patients can live a long, healthy and happy life. Below, I will detail the different methods of treatment and how they work. Body Detecting GH secreting pituitary adenomas in young children before pituitary gigantism occurs is of utmost importance, as gigantism is irreversible once the extreme growth occurs. We will need to analyze each market separately to show the differences and the similarities so as to understand their effects on the community and whether they allow room for entry and exit of new firms in order to grow our city economically. • 18. Tawney s Essay Some Reflections Of A Soldier Many people think that the absolute best way to relate to a relative or the best way to resolve internal conflict, is through talking it out. In some cases this may have validity, but not in the case of veterans. Family members inserting their assumptions and probing their returning loved ones is not only prevalent today, but goes all the way back to World War I , and likely occurred before then as well. While of course there is value in communication, many veterans do not want to talk about their experiences, and shouldn t be forced to do so. They also should not have to explain themselves to those who think they understand what is going on. My assertion is this: Family members should not push their loved ones to talk about war, nor should they assume that they understand what they have gone through. While recognizing that communication is valuable and that without talking the civilians could never even begin to try to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He recognizes that the soldiers have changed and that is partly why the civilians cannot understand, but he also presents the notion that the civilians have changed where the soldiers have not (Tawney 22). Soldiers experience a great deal of change while they are away at war, they experience things they cannot explain. The change inside the civilians though, makes it even harder for them to understand these unexplainable things. The civilians have formulated these ideas and images inside their heads of what they think the war is like. Whether it be from the news, articles, books, or other outside sources they have read. By forming these images and romanticized views of war, they are unable to comprehend what war actually is to those who have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Myths not only deepen people s knowledge about life and beliefs of the ancient Greeks, but also present the image of the contemporary worldview and system of values. They represent attitudes and patterns of timeless values, and raise the universal content. One of the most frequent themes of myths is the context of suffering. Suffering is not onlyt the domain of people, but suffering also affects gods and goddesses. Although Niobe and Demeterbelonged to a fellowship of queens and goddesses, just like mortals they had to cope with adversity; they struggled with vices, and suffered pain. Moreover, they were subjected to fate as every human beings. In mythology mothers were portrayed as a mother earth and mother giving rise to all lives and mankind. However, sometimes they were presented as those who suffered due to fate s adversity .Niobe, daughter of Tantalus, the wife of Amphion, proud mother of many children (according to some sources mother of twelve, and according to other sources of fourteen children) demanded the honor equal to the mother of Apollo and Artemis. She did not understand how people can worship Leto who had only two children. Niobe, proud of her motherhood, drew Leto s wrath on herself. During that time people have had to adapt to their environment in order to survive. This eventually gave birth to the many customs and diversities we see today. As the children of these generations we tend to take this for granted. Since some cultures have evolved faster than others, we tend to forget the hardships our predecessors worked so hard to achieve. This is where understanding what culture awareness comes into play. If a person wants to truly honor their culture, they will constantly practice it. Respect should be the number one priority in every culture. People should be able to give their opinion, however it should never be given in an offensive manner. This is why cultural awareness is a huge deal within our world. No matter where one is, generations and sacrifice created the regions we know today. One of those regions that catches my attention is the Philippines. The terrain of the Philippines is very interesting to say the least. For regional anesthesia, a local anesthetic will be injected into a nerve.[1] The anesthetic will then affect a series of nerves. The anesthetic blocks pain by interrupting nerve transmissions, also known as action potentials.[3] Action potentials occur at a constant rate within the body. Action potentials occur between nerve cells and all the body to feel pain. A nerve cell has a negative charge at a resting state due to negatively charged proteins within the cell.[3] Although the inside of the cell contains positively charged potassium ions as well, overall the charge is still negative. Along with potassium on the inside of the cell, positively charged sodium ions are located around the exterior of the cell.[3] When an action potential occurs, the cell becomes even more negatively charged. In turn, this causes sodium transport molecules in the membrane of the cell to open.[3] Sodium will then enter the cell during active transport. The positively charged sodium will cancel out the negatively charged active potential which will depolarize the cell. This allows neurotransmitters to transfer from cell to cell.[3] These neurotransmitters are what allows the body to feel pain. Local anesthetics work by diffusing through nerve fibers. Once they ve reached the cells, they block the sodium transport molecules in the cell.[2] Therefore neurotransmitters cannot transfer information from cell to cell and the feeling of ... • 40. The Death Of Jean Pierre Grumbach Born in Paris in the middle of World War I, Jean Pierre Grumbach knew he wanted to be a filmmaker at a very early age. After receiving a PathГ© Baby camera at the age of seven, he went on to create the equivalent of thirty short movies in various formats for friends and family by the time he turned twenty. His burgeoning career and dreams of being a filmdirector were interrupted by Nazi Germany and the Second World War, but instead of evacuating to the United Kingdom he stayed in his homeland and fought, wisely changing his last name to Melville after his favorite author. Now a veteran of the Resistance in Nazi occupied France, Jean Pierre Melville later used his love of filmmaking and American gangster movies, accompanied by his disdain for the domineering French cinema establishment, to invent an entire genre of films and inspire an army of young directors to ignore conventional methods and embrace their own creations in their own unique ways. THE ACCIDENTAL ICON From the beginning, Melville caught the attention of audiences and critics with his hardboiled crime noir films both in terms of storytelling and filming techniques. So much so that writers coined a term for his films and those soon to follow by others directors as the French New Wave, and Melville was the Godfather. Part of Melville s motivation for this new style was his intense dissatisfaction with the imperious demands of the Director s Guild as he personally defined the French New Wave as an ... • 42. GDP In The United States GDP is used as an indicator to know how the economy is doing in a specific year. If GDP rises, we assume that the economy is growing and vice versa, but is it really taking into account all the factors necessary to estimate the well being of our economy? This has been a controversial issue for decades, because some people believe that GDP leaves many factors out when calculating the welfare of the economy, such as income distribution, environmental sustainability, and non market transactions. First we need to define what is GDP and how is it measured. According to Chan (2013) GDP is a measure of the output of all final goods and services produced in the United States of America in a given year. Now, GDP can be measured in two ways: by adding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is really worrying, because GDP misses a lot of factors that affect in the standard of living of people. For example, GDP only focuses in what is being produced, but does not worries how this product are being produced and why they are produced that way, so many companies to lower the cost of production, use unsafe methods that end up producing harm to the earth. An example of these are the companies that use coal to make electricity. The amount of pollution they expel into the nature is really high. According to Carrington (2015), ВЁThe International Energy Agency calculates that one in four of these sub critical plants must close within five years, if the world s governments are to keep their pledge to limit global warming to 2CВЁ. This problem not only affects the environment, but also has an effect on people s lives. The quality of life of the society as a whole is lowered because of the pollution, people may suffer from cancer or respiratory diseases. And if the production of electricity gets higher then GDP also rises, but the quality of life is getting lower. It also does not consider non market transactions, an example being when you hire someone to tutor your child in math, GDP takes into account this transaction and therefore GDP rises, but what if you do on your own? Many people complain about this, because in this case GDP does not take into account what is being measured. Also volunteering work is not included in the GDP. But it does not end there, any transaction made in the black market, because is not reported, it s left out. As mentioned before, GDP do not take in to consideration the distribution of income in society, as a consequence of this GDP cannot distinguish if the GDP is rising for good reasons like more investment or more income, or for bad reasons. Therefore the inequality in society is not projected in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her unique style and interesting blend of myth and truth in memoir form garnered her international attention and won her several awards. Kingston s works have put heavy emphasis on her familyhistory and her experiences as a Chinese American, so it is no surprise that she has been received well by many and misunderstood by others at the same time. A discussion on one of her most popular works, No Name Woman , and a look at the different ways Kingston s works have been interpreted should reveal how literature can have different meanings depending on what one is looking for. Afterwards, around the 1700s, when the use of newspapers began to be an everyday publication, advertisements started being printed in them, even if the advertisements were simple at the time. Newspapers became the first medium to be conquered by advertisement. In 1721, Benjamin Franklin founded the Pennsylvania Gazette, the second newspaper made in the Americas. What was special about it is that it had pictures accompanying the ads to help the people understand better their product, which was the difference with his close relative, The Boston Gazette, which had pictureless ads (YouHis3). Since the eighteenth century, most newspapers have relied on advertisements for part of their profit, and they have been developing advertising bit by bit. Following the example of the newspapers, radio programming began using advertisements. These advertisements were very slow and repetitive sonnets that companies used to get people to know their products. These advertisements started in the late 1800s, with their lengths being fairly short. They never extended past a minute. The title is ironic because there is nothing glorious about war or the way it ended Pat Tillman s beautiful life. Jon Krakauer orchestrates this masterpiece with his diligently, articulated descriptions and with a timeline sewn together from the threads of two worlds. The author s style can best be characterized by his challenging, precise diction and his ability to fluently intervene pertinent quotes and facts that further persuade the reader toward his cause. Throughout the book, the author s tone harnesses resentment towards the militant hierarchy; for through its ingenuousness, deceit, and manipulation, the military uses Pat s death as propaganda to bolster the war s support.... As a child, Pat and his brother were left to their own devices when playing in their expansive backyard. With few TV channels and an infinitesimal media presence, Pat and Kevin experienced a nurturing home that instilled positive virtues and allowed them to grow as human beings from an early age. This enabled them to be who they were mature, sophisticated, and virtuous human beings. Even with that being said, sometimes one must undergo a momentous change to hasten the learning curve Pat was no exception. Change is a hackneyed clichГ© for what can truly be a life altering metamorphosis into something special. Perhaps the greatest contributor to a great man, change solidified Pat s resolve, aided him in reevaluating his priorities, and humbled his reckless demeanor. This was completed in a month s work a month Pat spent in a juvenile detention center. The Vietnam and Korean Wars were unpopular with many United States citizens due to the fact that the country had no personal reason for involvement, as they were not attacked. However, attacks on American soil have been known to bring rise to a large sense of nationalism. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, America came together to fight the war on terrorism. Likewise, America was drawn into World War Two after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. American literature would not dare speak ill of American involvement in World War Two. Heller has publically expressed his disagreement with war, as he spoke his objection to the idea of American intervention in Vietnam (Najarian) in many interviews. In the novel, he expresses his contempt for war in multiple ways. The book has many instances of comedic language that many call black humor, a dark and absurd type of comedic writing many find appaling. However, in a 1972 interview with Richard Sale Heller took pains to make it clear that he was not a black humorist: First of all, I don t like the term black humor. I like to think of it as sour sarcasm or ugly satire. I don t like comedy for the sake of comedy (Pinsker 379). When he does use comedy, Heller has a purpose. In Catch 22, Heller makes his purpose to send a sublte message obvious as he employs a more comedic manner to convey disdain for the army ( Catch 22, Literature 70). Yossarian is so desperate to get out of the war that it starts to become something of a joke as the story is progressing. At one point, Yossarian [runs] right into the hospital, determined to remain there forever rather than fly one mission more than the thirty two missions he had (Heller 205). To the reader, it is comedic that Yossarian is going to such great lengths to get out of combat. This clear use of comedy sends Heller s anti war philosophy in an effective way. Not only does Heller speak out against war in his novel, but he also effectively communicates his belief that institutions such as the military, big business, government, and religion are corrupt ( Catch 22, Novels 90) by using multiple literary devices. The corruption is being mirrored in the book as Yossarian is learning of the new regulation for the number of missions that must be flown before one is considered for discharge from service: Fifty missions, Doc Daneeka [tells] [Yossarian], shaking his head. Ethical behavior depends on several factors because what a person consider as moral may vary from another individual s approach to the situation. The basic premise of outsourcing is that a specialist organization can perform a particular service more efficiently than can internal operations because a specialist organization has an inherent advantage in producing and delivering a service. Superior technology, management skills, or economies of scale may contribute to this perception. The type of sourcing relationship depends on whether a long term or short term need exists. To save funds used for benefits for regular employees, temporary workers are hired. In this case, the organization (outsourcer) provides all necessary resources except the workers, who are provided by the vendor.
