Flight Of Icarus Risks
Do you think risks are worth the rewards? Some people might think risks are worth the rewards, but I
don t. The two myths Arachne and Flight of Icarus are examples showing that risks are not worth the
rewards.
To start off, Arachne is a good example to show why risks are not worth the rewards. Arachne wanted
to go against Athena because arachne thought she was the best we ve ever. So then they went against
each other and athena said in lines 80 90 if you win the weaving contest you will get much pride and
respect. But if you lose you will have to face a punishment that will never be unbroken. Yet Arachne
still went up for the risks and then lost and now she has to face the consequences put up to her. Athena
permanently turned arachne into a spider and now athena will never be changed back into a human
again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Flight of Icarus it also shows why risks are not worth the rewards Daedalus and his son Icarus were
trapped in a tower that king minos put them in because they let someone out of the maze. Now they
have to take a big risk that no one has never gone through. Daedalus was a great creator so he mad
wing s to escape from the tower and the island. Icarus s dad gave him the wings to put on and
Daedalus held onto his son s shoulders. He made the wings out of feathers and wax. Daedalus told his
son Icarus to stay in the middle because if he goes to high the wax will melt and if he goes to low the
feathers will blow off. Late when icarus was in the sky he got a little over handed and when to high
into the sky and the sun started to melt the wax. When the wax melter he started to fall and the was
water under him and he ended up drawing and die. Daedalus survived but his son did not. That is
another reason why risks are not worth the

Esters Lab
Flavor Lab
Leslie Perez
FST 426L.1
Purpose
The objective of this experiment is to prepare and identify several types of esters by the process of
dehydration synthesis using an alcohol with an acid.
Introduction
The process by which esters are formed is a reversible reaction called esterification. They are formed
when alcohols react with carboxylic acids in the presence of hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid. This
reaction is known as a condensation reaction. In the reaction above, the hydroxyl group ( OH) in the
carboxylic acid is replaced by the alkoxy group ( R*O) of the alcohol yielding an ester and water.
Esters are used as constituents of perfumes, cosmetics, and surfactants, just to mention a few
examples. In addition to this they are used in the food industry for flavoring of sweet and margarine.
In the article, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Table 1 shows the different alcohols and acids used for the production of esters. The name of the esters
is shown in the last column of this table as well as how the team member identified the odors of the
ester produced. Table 2 shows the results for all 5 groups in the class. Most of the esters produced in
this laboratory experiment were easily identified as specific fragances such as banana, wintergreen,
and menthol. It is shown in the table, that banana was the most identified one followed by tube M and
tube A. The rest of the esters, E and B, had more variability in the identification of esters while C was
identified as mouthwash, which can be associated to the menthol flavor and odor. Ester in tube B was
the hardest to be identified according to Table 2, since it had 4 different associated smells to it.
Students identified one of the odors as expo marker which can be due to experimental error in which
the ester did not fully react and the solution smelled more like alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol), which
are ingredients that most dry erase markers such as the brand Expo

Neoplasm Research Paper
A malignant neoplasm is the medical terminology for Cancer, there are many types of cancers,
however, they all are comprised of unregulated cells that show growth or a change. These cells that are
cancerous, grow at a hasty rate and will take over other parts of the body, whether being another organ
or tissue surrounding the compromised body part. This can also involve the lymph nodes, as well as
travel through the bloodstream. There are many influences that contribute to the chance of developing
cancers, some of these factors include tobacco use, being overweight and not physically active,
exposures to chemicals, and poor nutrition and dietary selections, ones with mutagens in foods,
continued or excessive consumption of alcohol, eating foods which are high in fats, and red meat just
to name of few. Other types of cancer may be factored by family history, known as a genetic risk, as

A neoplasm that can spread to many parts throughout the body, and can lead to death.
1. Carcinomas are the most common cancer, these develop first in the epithelial tissue of the skin, or
nearby tissue that surrounds internal organs. Carcinoma in Situ is the beginning, invasive is when it
has started to grow and possibly spread to nearby tissue or organs, and metastic is when it has
travelled to more distal sites from the original site of origin. This form of cancer will usually spread
through the lymphatic system.
2. Sarcomas are cancers that are in the connective tissue of the body. There are two main groups for
this classification of cancer and those are osteosarcoma and soft tissue sarcomas.
3. Another classification of cancer that is one of the most common is Leukemia. Leukemia is cancer of
blood forming tissue. When this type of cancer develops it will affect the immune system by
minimizing its ability to fight infection.

Participation Awards Research Paper
Participation awards encourage involvement by recognizing the hard work of everyone involved,
which is why they shouldn t be seen as pity awards that students don t deserve. By rewarding
participation, you applaud the effort and hard work of the deserving winners, but also the hundreds of
other competitors who put forth their best effort. Unfortunately, parents like James Harrison don t
understand the purpose or benefit of participation awards, resulting in the stigma around them. James
confiscated his son s award saying that these trophies will be given back until they EARN a trophy,

The Only Reason I Asked Is That I Think It S Neat That
The only reason I asked is that I think it s neat that you worked with him on the Christmas film and
now you re both on When Calls the Heart. Yes, Paul s so wonderful. He s really a fun guy. He keeps
things super light hearted on set. He s always telling jokes. And it s really funny because when we are
on the set of A Wish for Christmas, I was mentioning to him that he should ask his agent to get him up
for When Calls the Heart. I thought he s be so perfect on the show. And he was like, I would love to be
on that show, are you kidding?! Set back in time, horses! And we talked about it jokingly, and the next

number of times. I had a blast working with her, Lacey, and Paul. A Wish for Christmas was such a
phenomenal movie. I had so much fun! It would be awesome to have you come up some time. You
know everybody anyway. I know what you mean. My problem sometimes is that I know the actor and
forget their character s name. Oh, that s a common problem on set. As an actor on set, you are two
names. The crew s supposed to refer to you by your real name, but then sometimes when you re really
going for it, especially the director, they ll just call you by your character s name cause they re
thinking in terms of the narrative. So at all times, you respond to two names. Oh, I understand that. It s
mainly with my mother who cannot keep all my actor friends straight. But she does know you as
Nurse Faith. Aw, that s very sweet. You ll have to give her a big hello from me. I definitely will. In
fact, I think when we watched A Wish For Christmas, I wasn t looking right at the screen, and I think
she recognized you before I did. Really? Wow! That s hard to do because we re all in period

Dangerous Toys for Our Children
Running head: DANGEROUS TOYS FOR OUR CHILDREN
Dangerous Toys for Our Children

of Bachelor of Science in Management.
Dangerous Toys for Our Children As a mother, there is no greater concern than the safety of our
children. Yet with the recent reports of lead in toys for kids, mothers and fathers alike now have a new
worry. One of the world s largest entrusted and respected toy companies has been criticized for
producing toys with hazardous levels of lead paint. Some of the toys produced by Mattel also contain
small magnets that pose as a choking hazard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The magnets can stick to one another through human tissue, leading to punctures. According to the
CPSC s website, the children suffered intestinal tears that required surgery. The company has ordered
that all products be pulled off retail shelves, said Nancy Nord, acting chairwoman of the Consumer
Product Safety Commission. The 1.5 million toys recalled by Fisher Price s preschool division
included Elmo, Big Bird, and Dora, all made in China. The recall was prompted by concerns about
lead paint and risks associated with small, high powered magnets (CNN, 2007). According to the
executive vice president for Mattel International, the dangerous levels of lead paint came from the
subcontractor of a vendor that did not use certified paint. The subcontractor has been associated with
this company for 20 years. Eckert said Mattel has changed the way it attaches magnets to its toys to
make them safer. These recent statements mark the latest in a series of recalls of defective products
made in China, which is the second largest trading partner of the United States after Canada.
Incidentally, China produces 80 percent of the world s toys. To prevent these problems from recurring,
Nord said the Chinese manufacturers are coming to Washington, D.C. this fall for product safety
training sessions (CNN, 2007). In conclusion, we must make sure that our government lives up to its

Descartes Essay
In the early 17th century a philosopher named Descartes, questioned his existence. His life was
dedicated to the founding of a philosophical and mathematical system in which all sciences were
logical.
Descartes was born in 1596 in Touraine, France. His education consisted of attendance to a Jesuit
school of La Fleche. He studied a liberal arts program that emphasized philosophy, the humanities,
science, and math. He then went on to the University of Poitiers where he graduated in 1616 with a
law degree. Descartes also served as a volunteer in several different armies to broaden his horizons.

His God must also be omnipotent to do the things he wished to describe later, so he proved God to be
omnipotent. The main literary work in which he published these proofs was his Meditations. The other
major philosophical work, which was publisher later, was his Discourse on Method. These two main
works have paved the path for modern philosophy throughout the world. Although Descartes proved
the existence of God, he did not believe him to be imminent, but rather, transcendent. He was by
definition a Deity. He believed that God created the world and the laws by which it works. Then, set
the cosmos in motion by these natural laws and simply watches it operate.
Once Descartes proved his own existence and that of God s, he proceeded on to the sciences. He
showed that mathematics was the truest of all sciences. Descartes studied math intensely at the Jesuit
school. His zeal for the subject continued into his later life. Gradually, he became more and more
disgusted with the current system of math. He sought to revise it and ended up revolutionizing it. Math
today is based upon the Cartesian system. Descartes is called the quot;Father of Modern Mathematics
quot; for several reasons. His major contribution is the application of algebra to geometry. In his
treatise, Geometry, Descartes reveals his analytic geometry. Analytic geometry allows any curve to be
addressed from an algebraic view by means of a coordinate system. This is taught to all

Speech-Language Pathology
Speech Language Pathology has been around since about the 1940 s. It is traced back to after World
War II when thousands of young servicemen and women returned with noise induced hearing loss.
The United States Government responded by creating hearing rehabilitation programs at the military
hospitals where hearing aid procedures were standardized across the country. So what exactly is
Speech Language Pathology? Have there been many Speech Pathology developments over the years,
and who are some of the key players? Yes, due to an increase in the need for new advancements, there
have been many new developments over the years. During the 1950 s 60 s, hearing programs emerged
greatly in community speech and hearing centers geared to aural rehabilitation. ... Show more content

differently over time as technology grows. She explains that back in the day, they did a lot of games,

lot of special things so they had to make most of it up. With all the new advances in the field of speech

already loaded so we don t have to come up with the games on our own. It makes it much easier to

part to the use of technology in therapy, at four years old, his language skills are now equivalent to his

Freedom Of Press Amendment Research Paper
I believe advertisements targeting children should not be banned in the United States. Doing so would
be unconstitutional due to the Freedom of Press amendment. Advertisements can help children by
promoting healthy eating habits while at the same time teaching them that advertisements are just
ploys for businesses to get more money. Banning advertisements targeted towards children in the
United States would violate the rights of many businesses across the nation. The Constitution along
with its amendments are in place to protect every citizen and business in the nation. The Freedom of
Press amendment was implemented for when cases like this one are brought up. Taking this right

Teaching Note
This case follows the performance review and financial statement forecasting decisions of a Value
Line analyst for the retail building supply industry in October 2002. The case contrasts the strong
operating performance of Home Depot with the strong stock market performance of Lowe s. Students
examine a financial ratio analysis for Home Depot that acts as a template to generate a comparable
ratio analysis for Lowe s. The students ratio analysis is designed to build intuition with respect to
interpreting individual ratios as well as ratio inter relationships (e.g., the DuPont framework). The
historical performance comparison suggests that investors are skeptical of the ability ... Show more

The students should come to realize that the return on capital figures should be evaluated relative to a
market based benchmark, the weighted average cost of capital. Relative to the WACC calculated in
case Exhibit 2, Home Depot is beating its benchmark (12.3 percent), while Lowe s is below its
benchmark (11.6 percent). The class may comment on the justification for differences in the cost of
capital estimates for firms that appear so similar in their risk profiles.
Using a DuPont type decomposition, the instructor can use the available ratio analysis to peel back the
differences in operating performance in margins and turnover. The instructor can also use this time to
build understanding of the economic content of financial ratios. The students should have used the
Home Depot analysis in case Exhibit 7 to build their own ratio analyses of Lowe s. Exhibit TN1
provides a comparison of the 2001 figures for both companies, which can be the focus of the
discussion. Exhibit TN2 provides the entire five year analysis for Lowe s as reference. The discussion
is likely to highlight that, across almost any dimension, Home Depot has outperformed Lowe s on an
operating basis in 2001.
This discussion can be contrasted with the stock market performance. Over the past year, shares in
Lowe s have performed considerably better than those of Home Depot. The instructor can query the

Ethos, Pathos, Logos And Uses Of Michelle Obama s Speech
Inspiration The amount of knowledge and powerful words that can actually get to one s head is
amazing. Michelle Obama was the First Lady for 8 years and stood by former President Barack
Obamas side. She is a great example of what today s kids should look up to. A woman with dedication
to her word. A woman with dedication to what she believes. It is pretty easy to say that she has
become an impressive public speaker who can deliver a powerful speech to her supporters. In her
speech at the DNC in 2016, Michelle Obama did not fill her supporter s heads with politics and facts,
but a great use of personal experience, feelings and connections. Her love for this country and her love
for her family is one thing that brought her audience together. In fact, if it wasn t the great use of
ethos, pathos and logos Michelle Obamas speech would have probably have been like any other.

and how well we managed this experience could truly make or break them. She uses her daughters as

Barry B. Powell s Sedna, Mistress Of The Underworld
Sedna, mistress of the underworld is an Inuit myth that has been around for hundreds of years and
passed down generations. It is not clear when who the author or the myth is or when the myth started
being told since this story has been told for many, many years and was mostly likely told orally.
According to Barry B. Powell, this myth serves as an explanation for where whales and seals came
from as well as how Sedna became the mistress of the underworld, which is why the myth can still be
told today (Powell 488). At the beginning of the story, Sedna and her father are introduced to the
audience, who then learns that many young men are wanting to marry Sedna. She does not accept any
of them, however, because of her proud heart. Later on, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The imagery that is used when describing the setting allows the audience to not only picture clearly
where the characters are but also to give an explanation for why Sedna would rather marry a seagull
she just met than a young man who she has probably known for some time. Sedna wants the best for
herself and does not wish to be with a man who cannot offer her anything that her father cannot offer
her himself in terms of a shelter and food. Sedna s pride is her tragic flaw, and by not accepting what
was given/offered to her, she ended up being worse off than she was before. Another flaw for Sedna
and her father is that they are vengeful. Sedna s father gets revenge on the seagull, which almost
results in him murdering his daughter, and it is Sedna s revenge on her father and their hatred that
caused the earth to swallow them. From these, it can be understood that peacefulness, humility, whales
and seals, and being weary of strangers are all ideas, or animals, that this culture thinks is important.
These are a few of the ideas that can be taken away from this myth, but if they are looked at from
another

Student Is The Best Part Of A Life
Many would agree to the fact that student life is indeed the best part of a life, no matter how difficult
and challenging it is. For any student definitely education is the most important aspect of student life
as it is the key to determine student s future. But the environment and surrounding can have a greater
impact on determining the meaning of student life. School and college is the platform for American
students to explore their talent and career. They have the freedom to build do what they want. In case
of Nepal, students join college and school to get a degree so that they could get a job. And they have a
lot of restriction and lack the opportunity to work as per their interest. The lifestyle of students in
Nepal is really different to that of America.
First of all in the student in United States are independent whereas Nepali students are dependent on
their parents .Once Americans attend college majority of them start working. They finance themselves
for their education and take responsibility of their expenses. And still end up getting good grades. The
way students allocate time for work and study makes them well organized and determined. As
students have to fund themselves for their expenses, they value time and money. The independent
nature of students from a very young age teaches them how to live a life and this is one of the reasons
why this nation has developed so much. In contrast Nepali students are totally hooked on parents for
their expenditure until

I am reviewing the work I performed in the group under the current research and methods to present
the learning I gained from the feedback and guidance provided by the supervisors. (Tuckman, Belbin,

(Tuckman, 1965, pp 396)
In the last activities I performed, I did my part for the team and did efforts for the team as a whole, not
completely for personal achievement. I did understand the point of working as a team not as an
individual working separately than the team working as one. (Tuckman, 1965, pp 396)
Leadership:
I was given the opportunity to lead in single activity which required to guide the team members based
on communication. I did planned and guided my members and explain them how we will work in that
activity according to my mindset and priorities. The problem I experienced was that regardless of the
understanding between group members, I was still not able to guide my colleagues to perform as I
expected. The main reason for me not delivering what I expected was that I didn t accounted for other
member s thoughts and priorities. (Beth Charles, 2011, pp 463)
In some of the other activities, I was working as a member however, I have to take control of the
situation as I built a general understanding of the group work and do take leadership role in the group
whenever required. (Belbin, 2010, pp 65)(Henny, 2008, pp501)
Communication Skills:
For me at the first it was a disaster in terms of performing in the team. The reason for that was the
absence of understanding and communication skills in me. (Tuckman, 1965, pp

Nature Of Human Tissue Specimens Within Museum Collections
The specimen is relatively rare with regard to other gynaecological pathology specimens, and is
relatively complete, although there have been some modifications made through time for the safety of
the human tissue. The specimen is significant for the interpretive potential that it holds, however it is
limited by the lack of documented provenance, given that some of the information obtained is
anecdotal oral history and cannot be verified through documentation.
Within the last twenty years, the controversial nature of human tissue specimens within museum
collections has sometimes led to their disposal, and the erosion of technical conservation skills relating
to this particular type of collection. The UCL Pathology Collection has in recent ... Show more content

[add source?] The first step towards further improving accessibility would be to expand public

also be achieved through a more ambitious events programme that could include publically bookable

Concerns are often raised about the appropriateness of human specimens in a class environment.
However, staff at the UCL Pathology Collection have found that children are not so much frightened
or disturbed by the specimens in the collections, rather they are intrigued and wish to understand more
about health issues and specimen collecting in the past. In this sense, pathology collections can be a
key way of presenting health concerns through object study, away from a dependence on photography
and diagrams in text books. Children in particular have been shown to respond well to learning
through object handling. Specimens and objects relating to the history of medicine have been
identified as having an almost unique ability to profoundly impact upon museum visitors (Arnold,
1999). The inherent relatability of human organs, and the pain inflicted through the use of medical
instruments, can both ignite curiosity and instil fear and repulsion. Medicine as a subject has grown

Mrs. O Kelly
I believe Victor Frankenstein was responsible for his creature s actions. He had many chances to help
but he was a too much of a coward. For example, Frankenstein could have helped Justine but he was
too scared to speak up. It was his fault she was in jail and it was his fault she died. She was accused of
killing William because Victor s Monster put the necklace in her pocket.
Frankenstein felt responsible for his younger brother s death when he realized that the monster he
created murdered William. Frankenstein started to feel as if he himself had committed the murder
because of his role in the monster s existence. Everything the monster did was ... Show more content

He had only one friend, Clerval. His choice for a wife was a person he called cousin , but in fact was
his adopted sister. Did Victor create this so called monster to have a friend, the one thing the monster
wished for? Victor denied his friendship to the monster, but why? The joy of creating life, the monster,
overruled his judgment. He was denying the fact he had committed such a vile act upon humanity. He
even says, A being whom myself had formed, and eluded with life, had met me at midnight among the
precipices of an inaccessible mountain. 3 Victor may have admitted to creating the monster, but he
denied that he had driven the monster to commit murder. He needed to admit, not only to himself, but
to his family that he was the one responsible for William s murder. By not admitting this, he allowed
his friend Clerval and his wife Elizabeth to be murdered as well. His determination that his secret not
be discovered became his downfall. Victor was responsible for every action of his own and for the
actions of the monster. Frankenstein s monster only wanted to be accepted for what he was. The
monster needed a friend. Someone he could talk to, someone to love him, and someone to love back.
Friendship was not possible. Unfortunately, the human race is very shallow. In the monster s own
words he says, ...they spurn and hate me. 4 We tend to judge the appearances of others, rather than

The Battle between Passion and Responsibility in Great...
How do passions and desires eight in against duties and responsibilities? It is a personal battle that
many people fight every day. In Great Expectations, young Pip fights this battle with himself. Charles
Dickens portrays Pip as a young lower middle class boy in Victorian Era England. Pip is a blacksmith
to be and early on is satisfied with his life. As Pip s life progresses, he is confronted with opportunities
and situations that challenge his very integrity. Pip is given the ability to pursue his passions, but
perhaps he is given this ability before he developed the responsibility and judgment to use them
wisely. A reader may trace Pip s conflicts of passion and responsibility through the three stages of his
life in order to discover ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The happiness and absolute bliss Pip feels tell the reader that the innocent, kind, Pip from the
beginning of the novel is still somewhere within the new Pip, and seems to be making a comeback. As
Pip thinks about Joe, he sadly proclaims, But, [the] sharpest and deepest pain of all... [was when] I sat
thinking that I had deserted Joe (349). As Pip s fortune dwindles, Pip looks back in retrospect and sees
the horror of the cruelty with which he treated his loved ones. Pip s passions begin to be outweighed
by his responsibilities as Pip matures into an adult, showing the growth Pip experienced as a person.
Pip s fortune, which once fueled his passions, faded, and, almost like a lifting fog, revealed to Pip the
error of his ways and path to personal redemption. In the end, Pip was able to shake of his juvenile
desire and act responsibly. The growth Pip experienced as he broke free of the chains of Satis House
and Estella is immense and life changing. Pip finally realizes the appalling behaviors he has shown to
those that gave him nothing but love. As a pensive pip states, ...The inaptitude had never been in [Joe]
at all, but it had been in me (516). When Pip loses his status and wealth, he realized that they were just
material things, and never as important as he thought they were. Pip s fight with passion and
responsibility is finally won by

Plastic Surgery Should Not Be an Option
Children and teenagers can be very cruel at their young age and start bullying each other. This
bullying can leave drastic impacts on a vulnerable child, which would not know how to handle the
situation. The impact of bullying has raised a toll on suicide rates for youngsters. Bullying is
something real and should not be avoided; it comes in many different forms. All forms of bullying get

India Association Plans A Newsletter
The poem India Association Plans a Newsletter by Sharat Chandra has a lot of meaning to it behind
retaining home culture in another country. Throughout the poem, Chandra discusses on how the
second generation children should still preserve their own culture, and not forget about the heritage
you came from. The poem itself can be understood in a way that is meaningful for all new immigrants
who want to sustain their own heritage in another land which is why today s reader should pay
attention to this poem. Personally, I feel the poem can tell today s readers about the problems with
being too Americanized. Sharat Chandra uses metaphor, imagery, and symbols in India Association
Plans a Newsletter to convey a sense of what relieves the younger generation from falling back too
behind on their own culture, and not completely wash it down just because you are living in a different
country.
Breezing through the poem I can spot metaphors, and those are the ones that contradict what Chandra
says in the previous lines. Chandra is an immigrant from India who has been in the U.S. for about two
decades. Today s readers can get a sense of motherhood after reading this because the poet says, to
make India over there to become India over here (Line 7); this can be interpreted in a such way that
just because we are in the United States it doesn t mean that we can t bring our country here. The
motherhood literally refers to as giving birth or raising a child, but in the sense of this

Government Corruption In Canada
A corrupt government can be a severe impediment to the progress of a country.
The main types of corruption as defined by the UN are that of petty and grand corruption. Petty
corruption mostly entails non elected individuals working in public regions of society such as service
receptionists or police officers. Grand corruption deals with elected officials usually in high power
positions. An example of grand corruption could be corruption from the elected members of a country.
Canada ranked ninth with a score of 82 out of 100 on the Corruption Perceptions Index
2016 monitored by a non profit organization called Transparency International. In that report the
average global score out of a 100 was 43. This implies that Canada is doing well amongst the worlds
nations but can do better. Acts of corruption have a significant impact in the country experiencing it.
Therefore reducing the likelihood of corruption is of great benefit to the country of Canada.
Corruption in the Canadian Government is an issue that is relevant to the society of Canada. The
effects corruption has on Canada and the ways Canada chooses to lessen this corruption will be further
explored here.
In recent years various scandals have been brought to the attention of Canadian residents by the
media. Through previous examples, it is evident that scandals have a remarkable impact on the trust of
the average Canadian. One such example is that of the Senate Expense Scandal. In short the Senate

Informative Essay On Cocaine
Cocaine
When you reach into the refrigerator for a Coca Cola, do you ever wonder where it got its name? You
might be surprised to find out! When coke was created 120 years ago, it contained cocaine (Bayer 27).
At the time scientists did not realize that cocaine was addictive and dangerous. Scientists today know
that cocaine is among the strongest stimulants known, and trying the drug even one time can cause
heart attack, stroke, and even death. Even the most in shape athlete could die from one use (Bayer 26).

it hits the street. This is because gangs cut it with other substances such as sugar, PCP, speed, corn

Between 1981 and 1996 the U.S. Government has spent more than $80 billion fighting the drug war .
Government agents continuously patrol our southern border, from Florida to California, in an effort to

A Report On The Digestive System
Andres Nogales
Professor Dr. Felton
Essay 1: Since this student had a bag of chips which is carbs and turkey sandwich which is considered
protein and fat and water. The first stage in the digestive system is ingestion when the student enters
his lunch in their mouth. In this stage there is mechanical and chemical digestion taken place. The
mechanical digestion is take place by biting and tearing the food into smaller parts which would then
be known as bolus. Chemical digestion is occurred when the three salivary glands sublingual,
submandibular, and paratoid gland that secretes saliva which contains amylase. Amylase is used in this
case to breakdown starch. In the mouth the carbohydrates and fat are broken down. In carbohydrates
the starch and disaccharides are mixed with the salivary amylase, and in fats the unemulsified
triglycerides are mixed with lingual lipase. Once mechanical and chemical digestion is complete in the
mouth food continues its route to the digestive system going through deglutition. In deglutition the
esophagus sphincter begins to contract in which the tongue forces the bolus upward towards the hard
palate making the bolus to enter the oropharynx. Once it enter the oropharynx in order to prevent the
bolus to enter the trachea the uvula and larynx rise upward and the superior esophageal sphincter starts
to relax which would then allow food to enter the esophagus. Once that occurs the muscles of pharynx
contract making the bolus to travel down the

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud, By John Muir And William...
Albert Einstein spoke of nature and its value when he said, Look deep into nature, and then you will
understand everything better. As Einstein pointed out, by looking into nature you could discover
something new about yourself and the world around you. John Muir and William Wordsworth both
discovered joy when they looked deep into nature. This joy gave them a new perspective on nature
and life and they each expressed this joy through different works of writing. Both authors have a
unique outlook on nature and its impact as well as different thoughts on how to share their
relationships; Muir used diction and connotation to show his relationship in his essay The Calypso
Borealis where Wordsworth used tone and syntax in his poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud .
John Muir expressed his relationship with nature in his essay titled The Calypso Borealis by using
diction and connotation. John Muir described the Calypso and its surroundings when he wrote:

joyful because he is happy when he talks about how beautiful the daffodils are. This shows how his
relationship with nature is positive since he is happy when watching the daffodils. Wordsworth uses
traditional syntax in this stanza. He uses several phrases divided by commas to describe the daffodils
and their movements. This gives the stanza a playful pace which again expresses that his relationship
with nature is happy and

Occlusal discrepancy is just a difference in the way teeth normally fit together. Some examples would

discrepancies may play a role in the progression of periodontal diseases. Some research has been done
on the relationship of these two aspects but it is very controversial and more research needs to be

Social Construction Of Deviance Of Women In The 1920 s
Assignment 2 The social construction of deviance is defined by how an individual or group breaks a
society s cultural norms and values. Deviance occurs by certain behaviors of a culture that goes
against the everyday behavior of a specific sect of society. A specific example of this is the women
rights movement during the late 1800 s and ending in the 1920 s. Women who wanted to work or have
the same rights as men were seen as deviant because women were meant to be housewives. Women s
right activists argued that women are equal to men. When the end of the war happened, women started
to volunteer during late 1800 s. As time went on, the culture began adapting towards normalcy of
women working with men. This was later approved by the senate ... Show more content on

America hold the highest income inequality in the world compared to all the nations in the world and
the gap has grown since 1947. The richest fifth in America are thirteen times more rich than the

Wealth. While the top control more than 75 percent of the national wealth. For example, the net worth
the bottom five percent only receive 6,029 dollars while the top receives 630,754 dollars in net worth.
The consequence of having income inequality for society is many people forced into debt,
undermining long term economic growth, undermining the hope of living the American dream,
Americans living homelessness and less safety because of more crimes. American s who are poor will
not have enough money to live day by day and will have to survive by stealing from the rich which

Use of Bathroom Scenes in the Film Pulp Fiction Essay
Bathrooms are filthy. They are grimy, soiled porcelain wastelands swarming with harmful bacteria and
human waste. And they re one of Quentin Tarantino s favorite tools to use on the big screen. If one
were to study the history of American media, he or she may notice that bathrooms are scarcely
pictured. In fact, it wasn t until the 1960 release of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho that a toilet was shown
in cinema. The featured toilet caused quite a stir among critics, and became a symbol of American
ethics. Quentin recognized the subject of morality that resided in the use of bathrooms and used it to
his advantage. In his 1994 release, Pulp Fiction, Quentin frequently uses the bathroom to make the
viewer question his or her ethical views. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vince panics and after a moment of thought decides to bring her to his dealer s house for advice. It
seems at first like a valiant effort to save the woman s life, but the audience has to wonder, Why not
bring her to the hospital? It seems as though Vince is selfishly trying to protect himself from the legal
repercussions of his illegal actions. Instead of bringing proper care to the comatose woman, he shies
away from the hospital and risks Mia s life by driving her to a house lacking medical staff and proper
knowledge. His lack of compassion for Mia becomes even more apparent in the manner with which he
drags the woman around. At one point he literally drops her on the ground so he can argue with his
dealer. Though it is up to interpretation, I believe Vince was taking only the necessary actions to save
his own reputation and career. The next occasion in which the bathroom brings forth a questioning of
ethics occurs when Vincent Vega and Jules Winfield confront Brett over Wallace s briefcase. While the
two are interrogating and humiliating Brett, a fourth character remains hidden in the apartment
bathroom, plotting a heroic shooting of the two henchmen. I found it interesting that by this point the
audience still sides with the two gangsters over the man whose friends are being murdered outside.

The Significance Of Church Going By Phillip Larkin
David Doan
Kevin Moore
05/21/2015
English 111
The Significance of Church Church Going by Phillip Larkin is a poem which hectors, but also
provides an interesting perspective on the significance and purpose of religion. Throughout the poem,
one can instantly recognize Larkin s agnostic beliefs because of the story s duel nature. Church Going
begins with an obviously atheist narrator ironically sneaking into an empty church. Due to the narrator
s ignorant and naïve personality, one can infer that the character could be a curious young boy. While
looking through all of the fancy decorations, books, and sacred items, he begins to wonder what would
happen to churches once people stopped practicing their faith and most of all what the allure of
religion is. In the end, the boy concludes that religion will forever exist because there will always be
big questions such as why are we here or what is the meaning of life. Although Larkin is very
skeptical about religion in his poem, it seems he cannot deny the significance and impact the church
has had in history. The church s ability to satisfy humanity s want for a metaphysical entity, is the
reason why there are so many followers even today. Larkin first begins his poem by empathizing with
atheists and viewing the church through their eyes. When the boy sneaks into the church, one can tell
how indifferent and almost disgusted he is towards the building based on his descriptions. He points
out how it is just another church:

  • 2. Flight Of Icarus Risks Do you think risks are worth the rewards? Some people might think risks are worth the rewards, but I don t. The two myths Arachne and Flight of Icarus are examples showing that risks are not worth the rewards. To start off, Arachne is a good example to show why risks are not worth the rewards. Arachne wanted to go against Athena because arachne thought she was the best we ve ever. So then they went against each other and athena said in lines 80 90 if you win the weaving contest you will get much pride and respect. But if you lose you will have to face a punishment that will never be unbroken. Yet Arachne still went up for the risks and then lost and now she has to face the consequences put up to her. Athena permanently turned arachne into a spider and now athena will never be changed back into a human again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Esters Lab Flavor Lab Leslie Perez FST 426L.1 Purpose The objective of this experiment is to prepare and identify several types of esters by the process of dehydration synthesis using an alcohol with an acid. Introduction The process by which esters are formed is a reversible reaction called esterification. They are formed when alcohols react with carboxylic acids in the presence of hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid. This reaction is known as a condensation reaction. In the reaction above, the hydroxyl group ( OH) in the carboxylic acid is replaced by the alkoxy group ( R*O) of the alcohol yielding an ester and water. Esters are used as constituents of perfumes, cosmetics, and surfactants, just to mention a few examples. In addition to this they are used in the food industry for flavoring of sweet and margarine. In the article, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Table 1 shows the different alcohols and acids used for the production of esters. The name of the esters is shown in the last column of this table as well as how the team member identified the odors of the ester produced. Table 2 shows the results for all 5 groups in the class. Most of the esters produced in this laboratory experiment were easily identified as specific fragances such as banana, wintergreen, and menthol. It is shown in the table, that banana was the most identified one followed by tube M and tube A. The rest of the esters, E and B, had more variability in the identification of esters while C was identified as mouthwash, which can be associated to the menthol flavor and odor. Ester in tube B was the hardest to be identified according to Table 2, since it had 4 different associated smells to it. Students identified one of the odors as expo marker which can be due to experimental error in which the ester did not fully react and the solution smelled more like alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol), which are ingredients that most dry erase markers such as the brand Expo ... By rewarding participation, you applaud the effort and hard work of the deserving winners, but also the hundreds of other competitors who put forth their best effort. Unfortunately, parents like James Harrison don t understand the purpose or benefit of participation awards, resulting in the stigma around them. Dangerous Toys for Our Children Running head: DANGEROUS TOYS FOR OUR CHILDREN Dangerous Toys for Our Children Jane Doe College University Professor MGT 555 April 2, 2008 Submitted to the faculty of College University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Management. Dangerous Toys for Our Children As a mother, there is no greater concern than the safety of our children. Yet with the recent reports of lead in toys for kids, mothers and fathers alike now have a new worry. One of the world s largest entrusted and respected toy companies has been criticized for producing toys with hazardous levels of lead paint. Some of the toys produced by Mattel also contain small magnets that pose as a choking hazard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The magnets can stick to one another through human tissue, leading to punctures. According to the CPSC s website, the children suffered intestinal tears that required surgery. The company has ordered that all products be pulled off retail shelves, said Nancy Nord, acting chairwoman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The 1.5 million toys recalled by Fisher Price s preschool division included Elmo, Big Bird, and Dora, all made in China. The recall was prompted by concerns about lead paint and risks associated with small, high powered magnets (CNN, 2007). According to the executive vice president for Mattel International, the dangerous levels of lead paint came from the subcontractor of a vendor that did not use certified paint. The subcontractor has been associated with this company for 20 years. Eckert said Mattel has changed the way it attaches magnets to its toys to make them safer. These recent statements mark the latest in a series of recalls of defective products made in China, which is the second largest trading partner of the United States after Canada. Incidentally, China produces 80 percent of the world s toys. To prevent these problems from recurring, Nord said the Chinese manufacturers are coming to Washington, D.C. this fall for product safety training sessions (CNN, 2007). • 9. Descartes Essay In the early 17th century a philosopher named Descartes, questioned his existence. His life was dedicated to the founding of a philosophical and mathematical system in which all sciences were logical. Descartes was born in 1596 in Touraine, France. His education consisted of attendance to a Jesuit school of La Fleche. He studied a liberal arts program that emphasized philosophy, the humanities, science, and math. He then went on to the University of Poitiers where he graduated in 1616 with a law degree. Descartes also served as a volunteer in several different armies to broaden his horizons. His God must also be omnipotent to do the things he wished to describe later, so he proved God to be omnipotent. The main literary work in which he published these proofs was his Meditations. The other major philosophical work, which was publisher later, was his Discourse on Method. These two main works have paved the path for modern philosophy throughout the world. Although Descartes proved the existence of God, he did not believe him to be imminent, but rather, transcendent. He was by definition a Deity. He believed that God created the world and the laws by which it works. Then, set the cosmos in motion by these natural laws and simply watches it operate. Once Descartes proved his own existence and that of God s, he proceeded on to the sciences. He showed that mathematics was the truest of all sciences. Descartes studied math intensely at the Jesuit school. His zeal for the subject continued into his later life. Gradually, he became more and more disgusted with the current system of math. He sought to revise it and ended up revolutionizing it. Math today is based upon the Cartesian system. Descartes is called the quot;Father of Modern Mathematics quot; for several reasons. His major contribution is the application of algebra to geometry. In his treatise, Geometry, Descartes reveals his analytic geometry. It is traced back to after World War II when thousands of young servicemen and women returned with noise induced hearing loss. The United States Government responded by creating hearing rehabilitation programs at the military hospitals where hearing aid procedures were standardized across the country. So what exactly is Speech Language Pathology? Have there been many Speech Pathology developments over the years, and who are some of the key players? Doing so would be unconstitutional due to the Freedom of Press amendment. Advertisements can help children by promoting healthy eating habits while at the same time teaching them that advertisements are just ploys for businesses to get more money. Banning advertisements targeted towards children in the United States would violate the rights of many businesses across the nation. In his 1994 release, Pulp Fiction, Quentin frequently uses the bathroom to make the viewer question his or her ethical views. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vince panics and after a moment of thought decides to bring her to his dealer s house for advice. It seems at first like a valiant effort to save the woman s life, but the audience has to wonder, Why not bring her to the hospital? It seems as though Vince is selfishly trying to protect himself from the legal repercussions of his illegal actions. Instead of bringing proper care to the comatose woman, he shies away from the hospital and risks Mia s life by driving her to a house lacking medical staff and proper knowledge. His lack of compassion for Mia becomes even more apparent in the manner with which he drags the woman around. At one point he literally drops her on the ground so he can argue with his dealer. Though it is up to interpretation, I believe Vince was taking only the necessary actions to save his own reputation and career. The next occasion in which the bathroom brings forth a questioning of ethics occurs when Vincent Vega and Jules Winfield confront Brett over Wallace s briefcase. While the two are interrogating and humiliating Brett, a fourth character remains hidden in the apartment bathroom, plotting a heroic shooting of the two henchmen. I found it interesting that by this point the audience still sides with the two gangsters over the man whose friends are being murdered outside. When the hidden character busts open the bathroom door and unleashes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Significance Of Church Going By Phillip Larkin David Doan Kevin Moore 05/21/2015 English 111 The Significance of Church Church Going by Phillip Larkin is a poem which hectors, but also provides an interesting perspective on the significance and purpose of religion. Throughout the poem, one can instantly recognize Larkin s agnostic beliefs because of the story s duel nature. Church Going begins with an obviously atheist narrator ironically sneaking into an empty church. Due to the narrator s ignorant and naïve personality, one can infer that the character could be a curious young boy. While looking through all of the fancy decorations, books, and sacred items, he begins to wonder what would happen to churches once people stopped practicing their faith and most of all what the allure of religion is. In the end, the boy concludes that religion will forever exist because there will always be big questions such as why are we here or what is the meaning of life. Although Larkin is very skeptical about religion in his poem, it seems he cannot deny the significance and impact the church has had in history. The church s ability to satisfy humanity s want for a metaphysical entity, is the reason why there are so many followers even today. Larkin first begins his poem by empathizing with atheists and viewing the church through their eyes. When the boy sneaks into the church, one can tell how indifferent and almost disgusted he is towards the building based on his descriptions. He points out how it is just another church: ...
