Gas Chromatography Lab
Simple Distillation and Gas Chromatography The objective of the lab was to purify compounds that
can be turned into gas at a reasonable temperature without using decomposition. Gas
chromatography was also used to identify the proportions of the volatile compound in the different
samples. The mixture of hexane and octane was assigned to me and my partner. The apparatus for
simple distillationwas assemble using a thermocouple, air condenser, distillation head, metal keck
clamps, and a conical reaction vial. The joints of the glassware were greased before assembly.
Four boiling chips were placed in the conical ration vial before it was assembled. After being
assigned a mixture, 3.5 mL of the mixture was put into a reaction vial. The apparatus... Show more

There was no distillate in the distillation head after 20 minutes on the setting of 40 so the Variac
transformer was turned to 45. The first fraction was collected at 55.6В°C. The ratio of hexane to
octane was 87.437% to 12.563%. The second fraction was collected between 47.3В°C and
40.5В°C. 88.429% to 11.571% was the ratio of hexane to octane for this fraction. The third
fraction was collected at 30.6В°C, and the ratio of hexane to octane was 94.957% to 5.043%.
The contents of the conical reaction vial were placed in a fourth vial and a chromatogram was
obtained for it. The ration of hexane to octane was 7.501% to 92.499%. During the collection of
the three fractions, a piece of the glass pipet broke off into the distillation head. The results of the
experiment could have been incorrect because the glassware was not properly cleaned. The
distillate also could have collected too fast which would have lowered the separations efficiency.
From this information, infer that hexane has a lower boiling point than octane because most of the
distillate was hexane. The majority of what was left in the conical reaction vial was octane because
the temperature was not hot enough to turn it into a gas to go into the distillation

How Did Erasmus Use Folly to Criticize the Catholic Church
How did Erasmus use Folly to criticize the Catholic Church of his Day? It may seem odd or
different to admire and acclaim Folly, but there is a definite benefit to foolishness: the freedom
to tell only factual information. In Praise of Folly, Erasmus put this independence to good use in
repeating to the readers, a civilization significantly besmirched by mature worries, that a person
is unable to serve both God and Mammon. He leveled over his irony by promising us that there
is merit in being attacked by Folly (7), and closed with the recap that it s Folly and a woman who

condemnation. He definitely found necessity for severity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

How Running Changed My Life
If I was asked the question right now, of what one thing I am passionate about, for simplicity, I
would have an answer, Running . However, in reality, I have no one answer as to what it is that I

The Importance Of Respect For The Dead
Respect for the Dead Introduction The aim of the current essay was to discuss the cultural,
ethical, and legal aspects concerning the respect for the dead. Besides, the cultural, ethical, and
legal factors were correlated with the practice of anatomy, everyday observations, and personal
experiences. Notably, what was regarded as appropriate respect for the dead varied based on an
individual s cultural beliefs and ethical (religion or professional) considerations. Background The
concerns associated with the respect for the dead emanate from the fact that the dead symbolise the
shared destiny of humans and reminiscence of the dearly departed. Therefore, the dead are by
design objects of fascination regardless of one s point of view. For instance, dead bodies elicit
attention in both medical pathology and traditions that venerate the dead and those that forbid such
forms of glorification. Therefore, the interests of the dead are not unique to the human anatomist
only. Interest for the dead encompasses religion, sociology, art history, feminist theory, and law.
Notably, the emerging multifaceted interest in the dead had raised fundamental questions regarding
the limits of what was legal, ethical, and moral in the use of palatinates, cadaver, and dissected
human (Jones 2016, p. 46). The fundamental concerns had been initially raised by humanity
scholars, not pathologists. Such concerns were informed by key issues such as how were the dead
bodies obtained

Ancient Greeks landscape design
The Greeks had the characteristics of harmony with nature, so the ancient Greek terrain and
landscape design to achieve relief, its planning and composition of the structure is quite free. The
Greeks learned to combine urban construction with natural landscape harmony and complement
each other. Gardens and parks are similar to living organisms that are closely related to the natural
environment and humans. Metropolis, theaters, forums, squares, seem to evolve from nature, with
the surrounding landscape.
In the ancient Greek landscape construction, strict symmetry mainly. Alleyways and parks are

garden, the Greeks widely used cypress trees, fir trees, oaks, sycamore trees, palm trees, olive trees
and other trees, decorative temples and their homes. Here also built a ladder of the garden, where
the fountain arranged, planted flowers and trees.
The Greeks advocated rational dialogue. Specially designed philosophical gardens in order to carry
out philosophical dialogue. On the terrace there was an upright, wide alley, a space for sports,
statues, vases and fountains.
The geometric shape of the gardening of the ancient world turned into a blooming era for the world

Minstrely Research Paper
The Influence Minstrelsy and Vaudeville Had On the World
When you learned about slavery in school, did you learn about minstrelsy s? And during
government class, was vaudeville mentioned in regards to the 19th Amendment? I know I did not.
I find this surprising because when I did learn about these two forms of drama in English 161, I
was stunned at the amount of influence they had over the progression of slavery and the
ratification of the 19th Amendment. In this paper, I will simply call attention to these unknown
fields and argue that both minstrelsy s and vaudeville promoted the progression of specific groups
of people. I will use the works of my primary source, Marvin McAllister and Shirley Carter, along

or Fredrick Douglass. It never once crossed my mind that a genre of theatre was indeed a major
contributor to the prosperity of African Americans. Marvin McAllister wrote deeply about
influences of Minstrels in his book: Whiting Up: Whiteface Minstrels and Stage Europeans in
African American Performance. McAllister is now an African American studies Associate
Professor at the University of South Carolina, a location which promotes his credibility in his first
major assertion that whiteface minstrels arose in Charleston, South Carolina. In his first chapter,
McAllister claims that during the colonial and antebellum periods, whiteface minstrel shows
derived from the living conditions in South Carolina. In comparison to other the other cities at the
time, Charleston was relatively lenient towards slaves. An example of this is how South Carolina
s dependency on skilled Africans made room for negotiations. What McAllister is trying to do is
inform the readers about the origins of how minstrels arose, an appropriate move for the
introduction. These conditions, argued McAllister, allowed slaves to negotiate living out, which
allowed for black slaves to move away from the master s plantation and this created Charleston s
first black neighborhood: the Neck. Although I agree with McAllister, I would like to add that
living out was the first form of unification of African Americans and advancement of their rights.
Moving away from slave owners and coming together was essentially how whiteface minstrels

The Best Key Performance Indicators For The Godiva Monitor...
In my opinion, the five best key performance indicators for the Godiva to monitor and measure on
their ecommerce website are: number of unique visitors, bounce rate, conversion rate, average order
value, and repeat customer rate.
Unique visitors counts are important in determining between new versus returning site user traffic.
This data is helpful for counting hits to the landing page, and beneficial in counting hits to other
pages within the site as well. High traffic, and high returning traffic numbers are indicative of a
healthy on line business. The more frequently a user visits the site, the more opportunity that they
have to make a purchase. George Blitzer of Kommerzen.com indicates that more than one third of
traffic should represent repeat visitors. He also notes that rewarding these visitors with a loyalty
program is a great incentive to keep them coming back.
The bounce rate will provide Godiva with the number of times a site visitor leaves their website
right away. The bounce rate is calculated by the number of website page visitors that do not
engage with the page (do not click on links, or interact with the page) before abandoning the
page, divided by the total number of visits to the page within a given time frame. When the
bounce rate rises, Godiva knows that either the site user entered the page by accident, or the site
user was not interested in what they saw. A rise in bounce rate may potentially be caused by a
redesign of a website page, unappealing

Biography Of Leopold s A Sand County Almanac Essay
Part A When one reads Aldo Leopold s A Sand County Almanac, it is difficult to not immediately
find yourself lost in Leopold s enchantment with the nature that surrounds him. Leopold describes,
month by month, the activities of the animals and nature around him in such a way that one is able
to truly appreciate the often missed miracles that are happening all around us. One can easily
deduct that the theme of A Sand County Almanacis very boldly proclaimed as Leopold s writings
tell us to pause for a moment to appreciate and conserve the beautiful world that surrounds us.
Let us consider the two key words of the theme, appreciate and conserve. The Oxford English
Dictionary defines the word appreciate as to, recognize the worth of ( Appreciate ). Leopold
wants society to take a moment to recognize the worth of nature by providing us with a
descriptive glance at elements of nature that we may often take for granted, such as animals
foraging for food or the history of a tree. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word
conserve as to, protect (something, especially something of environmental or cultural importance)
from harm or destruction ( Conserve ). Once we are able to appreciate nature, we become more
aware of the importance of conservation. When you do not care about nature, it is easy to overuse
and mistreat it in such a way that it harms the environment. On the contrary, if one is able to truly
appreciate nature, he or she is much more conscious about the

The Run By Wanda Coleman Analysis
To begin, Wanda Coleman shows us when a young boy s mom calls him hard to look at. We hear
this through dialogue between his mother and aunt. While the main character, Buzz, and his
cousin were in California, they were playing a game and overheard some disturbing words by
Buzz s mother. Buzz previously had great respect for his mother and was a happy, fun kid. A
turn of events changed his point of view and made him see his mother in a mean, cold view. We
start to see some prejudice when Buzz s mom said He s my favorite of the boys. He s so light
skinned and look at that good straight hair. But as the conversation is progressing, so is the
hurtfulness of his mother s words. The final breaking point for Buzz is when his mom says I m
so glad this baby didn t turn out black and ugly like Buzz As we could see through the dialogue,
Buzz faced prejudice from no one but his own mother. We can infer from BUzz s later actions of
personality change and crying in the bathroom. We can see how close prejudice can hit home, and

The Destruction of Yellow Fever
A disease that has yet to be conquered (Barrett Higgs, 2007). Such a quaint, simplistic phrase that
yet effectively describes the disease commonly known today as yellow fever. Over the course of
history, the yellow fever virus (YFV) has decimated populations in various regions all across the
globe. While the overall gross impact of yellow feverhas declined over the years, the virus still
poses a significant threat present day, especially to those in the developing world. The World Health
Organization currently estimates that approximately 200,000 cases of yellow fever occur around
the world each year, resulting in 30,000 fatalities (Bundschuh et al, 2013). Presently, yellow fever
remains without a legitimate cure, and the best defence against the virus lies with preventative
action. WHO identifies its three major yellow fever prevention strategies as vaccination, mosquito
control, and epidemic response (WHO Yellow Fever Fact Sheet, 2014). This being said, through
the combined efforts of scientists, medical workers, governments, and international agencies alike,
the yellow fever virus has been confined to endemic areas throughout Africa and Latin America
(Barrett Higgs, 2007, p.209). With regards to the epidemiological nature of yellow fever,
geographic factors and influences clearly play a significant role. Environments, both physical and
human (ie. social), directly correlate to how the virus behaves, adapts, and survives. Through the

Similarities between Frankenstein and A Work of Artifice
Frankenstein and the poem A Work of Artifice portray almost the same message. These pieces by
Mary Shelley and Marge Piercy include both similar themes and ideas. The stories both involve a
theme of misconception, similar characters in which is easily depicted, and the theme of alienation
and loneliness presents itself in both pieces. The tree in A Work of Artifice and the monster in
Frankensteinare outcasts on society itself, the main characters of each are actually very similar and
so is the misconception that falls on both main characters in both pieces of work.

Both the creature from Frankenstein and the bonsai tree from A Work of Artifice hold similar traits
and characteristics. Victor Frankenstein, the creature s creator, and the gardener, the bonsai tree s
creator hold similar traits and characteristics as well.
The theme of alienation and loneliness both present themselves in these pieces. The tree longs
for freedom and to grow and stretch out as long as it wants to. Could have grown eighty feet tall
on the side of a mountain (Piercy 3 4). This quote shows exactly the longing for growth upon it.
But a gardener carefully pruned it. It is nine inches high. Every day as he whittles back the
branches the gardener croons, It is your nature to be small and cozy. (Piercy 6 13). Instead of the
tree expanding out and growing to its full potential like it would like to do, the gardener cuts it
down every day and prevents it from growing at all. The tree has to sit alone in a pot, and not
prosper and thrive to be the biggest and tallest tree there it wants to be. This theme presents itself
in Frankenstein also, All men hate the wretched; how, then, must I be hated, who am miserable
beyond all living things! Yet you, my creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature, to whom thou art
bound by ties only dissoluble by annihilation of one of us (Shelley 95). Right here the creature is

The White Crucifixion By Marc Chagall
In 1938, Marc Chagall painted the first portrait of his crucifixion series. The White Crucifixion was
developed from his own life experiences and combined both traditional and new customs to further
showcase the interrelation between the disheveled state of humanity that has continued to exist.
This painting has stirred a lot of controversy over the years because of Chagall s sudden change in
themes. Previously, Chagall focused on creating artworks centered on Jewish representations, but
switched to depicting a Christian subject. The White Crucifixion leaves little doubt of Jesuss
identity as a Jew and further argues the interrelationship between Judaismand Christianity. To begin,
when viewers first look at the painting their eyes are drawn to the center of the image, where
Jesus hangs on the cross. A light beam pours down on Jesus from above and we can see Jesus is
depicted much differently than in many other crucifixion portrayals. Here Jesus is wearing a head
cloth instead of a crown of thorns, a loincloth rather than traditional garments, and also has a
beard. From these details, we can clearly note that Chagall is presenting Jesus as a Jew because
much of the clothing parallels Jewish ritual garments. Moreover, the people above Jesus seem to be
mourning His death, but are also wearing Jewish traditional clothing, such as the caps/shawls on
their heads. A menorah can be seen at the bottom by Christ s feet and is the only object with a halo
around it other than the

The Pros And Cons Of King Philips War
King Philips War took place from 1675 1676. This was not a long war, but was very devastating
for both the Native Americans and colonists. This war took place in New England, and was the
most devastating war between the Native Americans and colonists during this time (Columbia

The Lake Isle Of Innisfree
The poems The Lake Isle of Innisfree by William Butler Yeats and To Autumn by John Keats
have some similarities as well as some differences. Both authors talk about the sounds like water,
animals, birds, and insects. Also, they talk about the scenery, for instance, sunset over the lake
and trees full of fruits. But one author talks about moving a place far from city and the other
talks about how one season is different from the others. The language in these poems is soothing
because the poets wrote their poems in a way in which a reader could picture it and imagine the
sounds, both the poems have imagery. The different interpretations of the poets language
influences on how the poem is understood by the reader. Both authors talks about the peaceful
sounds of nature and captivating views of landscape but they have different settings. In the
poem The Lake Isle of Innisfree, Yeats talks about moving to an island, Innisfree, far from the
city life because it is peaceful there. He does not like the environment in the city because it is
too noisy. In the poem, Yeats write: I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey, I hear it in the deep heart s core. (10 13)

Analysis Of Mrs. Se s By Lahiri
Encaged
In the story Mrs. Sen s , Lahiri presents the struggles of assimilating into a new country and
portrays how lonely and restricted immigrants can feel causing them to hold on to their past. She
is able to do this through her use of the character, Mrs. Sen, a woman who is originally from
India. Throughout the story we see how difficult it is for Mrs. Sen to assimilate to the lifestyle in
America. Her days, usually consist of staying in an apartment while her husband teaches at a
nearby university. Mrs. Sen s Indian lifestyle still seems very prominent, all her furniture is still
wrapped in plastic, the shoes are all lined in a bookcase by the front door, she refuses to purchase
fish from the supermarket and she uses an abnormal blade to do her cooking. All of this illustrating
how perhaps she is not ready to let go of her Indian lifestyle and assimilate. Mrs. Sen is
representative of the struggles of assimilation. The inevitability of feeling lonely and facing many
restrictions results in Mrs. Sen constantly grasping on to whatever part of India she has left.
Without even realizing this she prevents herself from assimilating. She always relies on Mr. Sen,
she barely knows anybody, she often misses her family and she cannot seem to make America feel
like home. Throughout the story we begin to notice how in America, Mrs. Sen is a somewhat
lonely person. This, however is not by choice. She does not know too many people other than her
husband, a man who calls

of the Spanish Civil War, the fight was between the Spanish republican government and the

Methicillin-Resistant Mythoiccus Aureus (MRSA)
Antibiotic resistance which can be defined as the ability of bacteria and other microorganisms to
resist the effects of an antibiotic to which they were once sensitive.8 Antibiotic resistance mainly
results from misuse of antibiotics which can be categorized as intensive and extended use of
antibiotics in human and veterinary treatments where antibiotics were not required and improper
disposal of antibiotics in both hospital environment and community which in turn results an
environmental impact too.
Among the resistant bacterial strains Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is the
major resistant pathological strain which is resistant to almost all antibiotics available in the world
in turn very difficult to cure and life threatening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Intrinsic resistance is achieved by spontaneous gene mutation through replication where acquired
resistance results as an adaptation technique when bacteria in contact with antibiotic. Pathogenic
bacteria can gain resistance through several mechanisms such as acquire modification of active site
of the bacteria in turn results in reduction in the efficacy of binding of the drug, direct modification
or destruction of antibiotic by enzymes produced by bacteria or efflux of antibiotic from the
bacterial cell through efflux pumps. Bacterial species accomplish spreading the resistance through
horizontal gene transfer mechanisms such as transformation, transduction and conjugation via
plasmids.
Antibiotic resistance has evolved as a result of the interactions between bacteria and antibiotic after
an antibiotic exposure. Bacterial species are capable of adapting to new antibiotic as simply as they
adapt to new environments due to their amazing genomic plasticity. This in turn results antibiotic
resistance to be very dynamic and unpredictable. Every year, almost 100,000 Americans die from
antibiotic resistant infections acquired from hospitals, largely because of the reduced effectiveness
of existing drugs, due to the development and propagation of drug resistance

Electrophilic Aromatic Cation Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment was to perform a nitration of a monosubstituted arene by
electrophilic aromatic substitution and the second part of the experiment was to determine the
relative reactivities of five different arenes using electrophilic aromatic bromination.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION
In electrophilic aromatic substitution, an atom that is attached to an aromatic compound is
replaced by an electrophile. The stability of aromatic rings makes the need for a very strong
electrophile for the molecule to be formed. Nitro groups and halogens are good examples of the
kind of electrophiles that should be used. The rate of the reaction and direction are affected by
the electrophile. A carbocation intermediate is formed when the electrophile attacks one of the
double bonds on the molecule and breaks it. The double bond can be reformed by a nucleophile
that attacks it as a base. As stated, a very strong electrophilic ion is needed to change the stability
of the aromatic ring. In the case of two electrophiles, the stronger one should be used to create the
strong cation which can then break the double bond.
An aromatic compound with a functional group on it creates three different isomeric products
because substitution can happen in either the otho , meta , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The ring activating reactants were electron donating because they had electron lone pairs and
therefore reacted faster. The reactants that were ring deactivating reacted slower because of they
were attached to electron withdrawing groups. The reaction order from fastest to slowest was as
predicted with phenol being the fastest, then anisole, 4 bromophenol, acetanilide, and diphenyl
ether being the slowest due to the electron withdrawing group joined to it. These outcomes are
constant with the concepts of ring activating and deactivating functional

Chinese Cinderella By Adeline Yen Mah
The true story of Chinese Cinderella is an autobiography written by Adeline Yen Mah, describing
the many complications she experienced in her childhood and young teenage years. Unlike most
children, Adeline struggled to live a normal life. She was often looked down upon by most of her
family and was neglected and abused in a way that was totally unacceptable. This is significantly
repeated throughout her juvenility. An important idea that recurs throughout the story Chinese
Cinderella is, unwanted and mistreated by your familyand relations.
Adeline is unloved and unwanted by most of her family, with the exception of her Aunt Baba and
Grandfather YeYe. Because of her mother s sudden death after Adeline was born her siblings gave

Impact Of The North American Free Trade Agreement
A free trade agreement is a treaty between two or more countries to establish a free trade range
where commerce in goods and services can be regulated across common borders, and without tariffs.
An extensively recognized trade agreement is the European Union. The European Union has been
advantageous by providing, safety, international mobility, employment mobility, residential
mobility, and tax options. However, free trade agreements are not always beneficial. This paper will
illustrate the negative impact of the North American Free Trade Agreement(NAFTA) in the United
States. NAFTA is the first trade agreement that coalesced Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
The new law was signed by President Clinton on December 8, 1993, impending into effect on
January 1, 1994. NAFTA was implemented by the use of fast track. Fast track allowd Clinton to
sign the agreement before congress voted on it. It also guaranteed that the executive branch can
write legislation not subject to committee markup that would implement the pact and alter wide
swaths of existing U.S. law. In terms of the dictionary, Fast Track guarantees the House and the
Senate vote on the bill within 90 days, with floor amendments forbidden and a maximum of 20
hours of debate. Since the agreement, NAFTA has eliminated most if the non tariff and tariff
barriers to increase free trade and investment. NAFTA is regulated by various institutions that focus

Split Pea Soup Recipe
Well, you won t mind if I give barely any introduction to this recipe if your days are as rushed and
busy as mine have been lately. At first, I thought for a while if this soup really needed an

about this awesome and nutritious soup. Since I was a little kid, the split pea soup has always
remained my down to earth, all purpose and basic meal. Whether you need to fix a quick plate for
lunch or supper, then I can assure you that this soup will never let you down. What I love most
about this soup is that unlike other dishes that gets their flavor from spices, it gives a natural
nutritious taste from vegetables and caramelized onions.
On the other hand, if you use the pressure cooker to prepare this soup, then you will agree with
me that this milder soup serves perfectly well as a quick comfort food. In case you are the type of
person who spends about half an hour wondering what to prepare for dinner, then you should try
this out and you will definitely admit that it is a true comfort meal for dinner. By the way, who can

slightly smoky flavor and I love it because it is especially magical about this soup. Also, when
studded with pieces of ham, the peas make this soup starch and thick just like potato soup.
Alternatively, you can consider using tougher pieces of meat since they will soften up due to the

Relationship Between Empathy And Narcissism
Where did we make a wrong turn in our society regarding ethics? If students think that ethics and
codes don t apply to them, what structure do they have to base any decisions they will make in the
future? The attributes theme (specifically the focus on the person, self absorption, and the role of
narcissismand self centeredness played in ethicsviolations) was the most influential aspect of this
research, in my opinion. It expanded my knowledge base on the lack of ethical thinking that
possibly exists in Generation Y, students born in the 80s and 90s. I have three Generation Y
children and it does appear that they all struggle with ethical decision making. It s not because
they were not exposed to sound moral character modeled around the house. Was the lack of
parental involvement while growing up? I don t think so. I ve seen my own kids go off the deep
end after conducting themselves unethically. They were brought up with loving and kind parents
who provided more than they could ever ask for. Perhaps that is part of the issue....the kids today
have too much and didn t have to earn it? Is there no reason to have a growth mindset if you have

History Is A Repetition Of Events
History is a repetition of events: war after war, economic crisis after economic crisis, technology
outdoing itself as we speak. A line of events that for centuries have been reported by the world s
oldest storytellers: journalists. Yet, the future of journalism itself has never been as uncertain and
unpredictable as it has been in the past decade and the role of gatekeepers of news has never been
more precarious.
The digital era has brought traditional journalism to the edge, forcing the industry to update its
means in order to sustain the constant commercial pressure it is put under.
On some level, the digital era disrupted an already easily corruptible industry, while from another
perspective, it has opened new opportunities for innovation and renovation, which could mean the
restoring of such criticized profession.
It is inferable that the Fourth Estate , as in journalism acting as a watchdog and as provider of
objective and impartial news, is in great danger.
The pressure to maximise profits and the frequent censorship, both as a result of government
control, and market ownership, have undermined the industry s professionalism as a whole.
At the same time, new media has been claimed to be a dynamic tool to enhance democracy, as it
allows citizens to bypass the traditional mainstream news media and to get access to a plurality of
information coming from alternative and independent news providers and online watchdog
organizations, untouched by any kind of pressure.

History of the Electric Vehicle Essay examples
History of the Electric Vehicle
The History of Development:
In general the automobile was invented to transport people. Horses were the main mode of
transportation and a self powered vehicle seemed to offer many benefits. We have looked at the
automobile history and seen how this innovation occurred. The United States in the 19th century
had been developing a very successful metal working industry, which included firearms, sewing
machines and machine tools. Not only did this push technology ahead but it also created demand
products of a complex technical nature. This technology is what leads to the production of the
automobile. The electric car for many years followed the same format that the internal combustion

Such railcars were a major accomplishment but it would be another thirty years before the next
giant leap forward. In 1888 electric cars began to appear in the United States and abroad as a
spillover from the previous technology. The most successful car was built by William Morrison
of Des Moines, Iowa and could run for thirteen consecutive hours at a speed of fourteen miles per
hour. However, much of the success of this was due to the promotional work from Harold Sturges,
secretary of the American Battery Company. This theme would develop over and over again in the
life of all alternative fuel systems where success came not from actual integrity, but from force from
an outside source.
For the next couple years electric cars seemed like they represented the future of travel. They
were adopted by the postal service and companies began to profit from their production. General
Electric began to produce cars in 1898 and achieved a land speed record for a car that went
39.25 miles per hour, a speed that gas powered cars could not come close to beating. At this point
the market for electric cars was big enough were a couple of firms were successful. Due to the
level of competition between these firms technological advance gained speed because companies
were trying to separate their product from the others. Through the turn of the century electric car
manufactures kept beating each other s speeds and raising the bar for electric technology. By 1902

The Career Of A Neonatal Nurse
Neonatal Nursing Steven Amsterdam once said, Nursing demands vigilance about people. The
sights and smells that a patient offers, their movements and their offhand comments all
contribute crucial information to understanding what they need. Training and experience
heighten one s ability to see what needs to be seen. As a child I was given adult responsibilities,
which began when my very first nephew was born. By the age of 7 I was changing his diapers,
making him bottles, and caring for him and i couldn t think of any better career than getting to
work with babies all day. I always carry the compassion and desire to help others and nothing
would be more rewarding than being able to put my skills to action. The career of a Neonatal
Nurse is exciting and challenging, because one is in charge of all new babies being born. The

the impact this career has on society. Neonatal Nursing was first introduced in the 1960s. In

Symbolism In Game Of Thrones
Joshua Jacob

More Than Thrones Do not pick a favorite character; that is the best advice any fan of Game of
Thrones could give. Game of Thrones is an award winning television show that first aired in 2011,
and has just completed its seventh season. The show is based on fantasy novels created by the
author George R.R. Martin, who also contributes to the show as a producer and scriptwriter. Game
of Thrones takes place mainly in the fantasy continent known as Westeros, filled with seven
kingdoms under one monarch. Some families fight for survival, others fight for the Iron Throne.
Then across the sea, on the continent of Essos, the previous heir to the throne of a usurped
dynasty plan to take back their rightful throne. Meanwhile, a supernatural and ancient army
returns to Westeros in order to destroy the living. With its profound symbolism, stunning
cinematography, and complex storyline, Game of Thrones has set the bar extremely high for
television. Nearly every aspect of Game of Thrones holds a greater meaning. Whether it be the
house s sigil or the actions of the characters. For example, one of the favorite families, the Starks,
have a grey direwolf against a white background. The wolf is the family s sigil and it seems to
look like armor which represents the willingness to fight and their determination to persevere
against all adversity. The white background stands for their readiness for the harsh winters and the

Religious Conflicts in The Song of Roland
The French epic, The Song of Roland, relates the conflicts between Christians and Muslims in 778
A.D. In it, Charlemagne and his men, weary in their seventh year of battle against pagan forces in

Abstract
When we hear the phrase, sex offender, we normally feel repulsed. We think of dirty old creepy
men. I for one used to do this, I won t lie. This is because people like to rush to judgment. But my
opinions changed when I came to the realization that it s not just creepy old men who are sex
offenders. I want to talk about them, but not those who are serial rapists or child molesters; they
don t deserve to be talked about. I m talking about people who are convicted, whether it s falsely,
or unjustly, and have to wear a stamp on their forehead for the rest of their lives saying they are a
sex offender.
I have an uncle named Michael and he s 29; he ll be 31 in October. In 2006 in Fredericksburg,
Virginia, he was convicted of rape. A young woman lied and said he raped her, and now he will
forever be scarred. In many rape cases, the defense will say that the victim was fantasizing the
rape or is lying, but sometimes she really is lying (Siegel, 1995, p. 304). Virginia has a two tier
system for sex offenders, violent and non violent. Even though Michaels charge was for the rape
of an adult, he is still considered a violent sexual predator, forever. This means he can t go to
McDonalds, he can t go to see his nieces and nephews, and he couldn t even go to my high school

Globalization Argumentative Paper
For some people, globalization is so feared it is synonymous with world destruction. In the end,
for all we know, maybe this will be proven before it is over. In reality however, there are many
good things that have resulted from globalization(1, Premise). Let s for a moment focus on the
economy, even though there are many other advantages that have been brought forward that will
also be discussed. Many Americans do not appreciate how efficient our markets are, in this case
efficiency in reference to supply and demand is number one. These efficient markets allow
economies to grow. As many have learned in a global world, when one economy grows, it spurs
growth in all the other economies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Globalization allows important processes to occur and be maintained more efficiently and
important ideas to become reality in an environment where they otherwise may not be. There is a
certain irony involved in this however that must be mentioned. For example, globalization is
going to allow the world to work together to hopefully solve our apocalyptic environmental
predicament in a best case scenario. Of course however, this predicament is a result of
globalization(1, Conclusion). Still, it allows the human race to push forward, which at this point
we must recognize as a necessity of our species in a time where progress of the human race is
growing rapidly. In my opinion this is a progress is written in our DNA, and globalization has
allowed us to accomplish truly incredible things(2, Conclusion).
Inductive Reasoning
I think one of the best examples of Inductive Reasoning I used was the explanation of how efficient
markets spur the growth and expansion of economic growth and how that is tied into
globalization. As stated above, Many Americans do not appreciate how efficient our markets are,
in this case efficiency in reference to supply and demand is number one. These efficient markets
allow economies to grow. As many have learned in a global world, when one economy grows, it
spurs growth in

A Day In The Life Of Gulliver Rhetorical Devices
Petty, vindictive, cruel, ill informed, egotistical, these are just a few words that come to mind when
describing the Lilliputians attitude in their massive world. At the beginning of the story the
capturing of the mountain man is understandable due to his enormity and their incomprehension on
the situation. However, their ridicule of Gulliver and enslavement of him, forcing him to do what
they want in order for him to get his freedom, is completely inhumane despite his benefits to their
society. The irony of the situation is that he can leave and overpower their whole community at
any time, but Gulliver is a good person and is abiding to the rules imposed upon him by the people
of Lilliput. Swift chooses to portray Lilliputians in an extremely negative light and at the end of the
story they have not changed for the better, but have become even more petty, vindictive, and cruel.

However, a once protective measure turned into an abuse of power when the Lilliputians realized
Gulliver could benefit society in ways they could never have imagined. This is an act of
enslavement by the Lilliputians as once they realized Gulliver wasn t a threat they should have let
him go and make his own decisions... but they didn t. Instead they negotiated obscure contracts
that made Gulliver a victim of enslavement to this small world. Not only was he a slave to the
Lilliputians, but also to himself and his morals, as he could have easily destroyed the world and
left at any time, but instead chose to

Operation Pied Piper Essay
Leave Hitler to me, sonny you ought to be out of London. A very prevalent slogan which echoed
across Britain back in World War II referencing Operation Pied Piper, an evacuation of several
million children, that took place early September 1939 through March 1946. All throughout the
evacuation, children as young as 2 years old were labeled like luggage, separated from their loved
ones, commonly carried a single suitcase which contained their meager possessions, a gas mask,
and, for some, a limitless amount of frightful tears. The words I ll have that one became engraved in
the memories of numerous children, referring to the common phrase used by their forthcoming
guardians when going through the selection process. Although the majority... Show more content on

At the time, she lived in Leigh on Sea 60 miles across the Channel from occupied France. When
the day came to be evacuated, she packed her meager belongings a single change of clothes, a
toothbrush and scarcely anything else in a sandbag, alongside her eldest sister, with a tag
around her neck, in the case she got lost. Pam boarded a train to Derbyshire, heading for
Charbury once arrived, she was taken to the village school, and given a small ration of food. She
was naturally an anxious and introverted child to begin with, however the humiliating selection
process, brought up feelings of being unwanted and unloved, which unfortunately stuck with her
in later life. The children all formerly instructed to stand up and turn around for the locals were
examined and prodded, similar to no more than cattle. The first to be chosen were those who
had either been attractive or those who appeared to be fully capable of either housekeeping or
farm work. Pam and her sister were among the last four to be chosen, due to the fact that neither
of them had attained either of the desired and preferred qualities. Chosen by the Simpsons, Pam
and her sister lived with a stern and religious couple Joe worked hard as a miner, who started
gaining experience for this particular profession at the young age of 12 and Cissy worked as an
insensitive and, at times, callous caretaker. Nevertheless, Pam adored being able to live in the
countryside and regularly watching the wonders of nature and wildlife provided by a nearby farm
such wonders were seldom ever seen in the small town where she initially lived. Regardless of those
very few and far between moments of bliss and contentment, they unfortunately experienced an

The Ludlow Massacre Of 1914 Essay
The Ludlow Massacre of 1914 is one of the bloodiest strike in the American labor history.
Historians have debated whether the event was a massacre of innocent lives caused by the
Colorado Fuel Iron (CF I) or as a battle between the company workers and the company
militiamen. The CF I stated that the event was an act of its workers to demilitarize the company
and to prevent importation of strikebreakers . However, Thomas Andrews Killing for Coal: America
s Deadliest Labor War introduces the concept of workscape in which gives an understanding of
the event internally, above the surface and underground the mines of Colorado. Within the book,
the operation of Colorado coal companies in capitalizing the coal industry lead to the formation
of the mine workscape in which united coal miners underground the mines and above the surface
to fight for industrial and political rights. This paper would define the concept of workscape in
the definition given by Andrews, and provide evidence of the responsibility of the exploitation of
capitalism in forming the mine workscape in the Colorado coal fields between the late 1800 s and
early 1900 s. Furthermore, the closer inspection of several events that occurred within and outside
the grounds of the Colorado coal fields related to labor unrest with the knowledge of the concept of
workscape will help understand the culmination of the Ludlow massacre within the larger history of
capitalism. A careful investigation of the book and other

The Importance Of Reading In Education
The United States is increasingly becoming a nation of nonreaders. In 2013, it was reported that
32 million adults, 14 percent of our population, could not read. Twenty one percent of the adults
that same year read below a fifth grade level. Additionally, nineteen percent of the high school
graduates could not read (Maddie Crum. The U.S. Illiteracy Rate Hasn t Changed In 10 Years. The
Huffington Post). This is alarming in a wealthy country like the United States. Our society will
suffer from illiteracy in socioeconomic issues if we continue to abandon readingin future years. If
we continue to neglect reading as a nation the literacyrate of children will decrease. Due to many
parents having reading difficulties themselves, they do not read to their kids at a young age.
Often these parents do not encourage reading. According to the U.S Department of Education,
when there is a low amount of parent support at home the classroom reading score is below the
national average by 46 points. When there is a high amount of parental support at home the
classroom reading score is above the national average by 28 points (NEA Facts about Children s
Literacy ). Children with low parental support come to school behind their classmates who
experienced reading at a young age. When parents read to their children they learn early reading
skills, such as reading from left to right, the meaning of words, and it increases their vocabulary.
Children who come to school already behind

The Revolution Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution was a huge turning point in the history of the world and also influenced a
handful of future revolutions. This event also inspired a large assortment of paintings and
literature. One of the most famous and recognizable paintings in the world that was created during
the French Revolution was The 28th July: Liberty Leading the People. EugГЁne Delacroix, whom
was a French romantic artist, created this iconic painting in 1830 to commemorate the July
Revolution (July 26th 29th, 1830). It is known for using the famous goddess Liberty as the
centerpiece of the painting. There has been controversy over the portrayal of Liberty, including her
physical characteristics as well as the role she s playing in the painting. However,... Show more

King Louis XVIII agreed to the creation of a constitution and promised a constitutional
monarchy, with a bicameral parliament, religious toleration, and constitutional rights for all
citizens. However, the parliament was composed of extremely right wing royalists and was
dismissed in 1816 due to disagreements. Louis XVIII later died in 1824, but he spent the rest of
his time at the throne trying to heal the wounds of the Revolution. Following the death of Louis
XVIII, his brother Charles X took the throne in 1824. Though the people were optimistic at the
beginning of his reign, the opinion of the new king eventually turned sour. Charles X returned
the land to the enemies of the Revolution that had been during the time under Napoleon, largely
at the expense of bourgeois holders of government bonds. Charles X was also not religiously
tolerant. He was a devoted Catholic, thus giving a large amount of power to the clergy and
imposed the death penalty for refusing the Eucharist or any other religious sacraments. As Charles
X lost support in parliament and from the general population, he felt the need to suspend the
elections for officials because of radical motives. On July 26th, by Article 14 of the Charter,
Charles X was able to put into action the July Ordinances, which included four rules: censored the
press, dissolved the newly elected chamber, altered the electoral system, and called for elections in
September. The violation of the

Why Minions Sell A Man
Why Minions Sell
A man, his two kids and a lady are standing over a counter making their orders for minions to a
group of three staff behind a counter, a lady is approaching and a gentleman is walking away from
the counter with a plate of minion. The environment around the minion store is neat with pictures
of different tastes of minions and their preferred drinks mounted on the upper part of the counter.
The customers are anxiously waiting with the two kids and the lady directly staring at the staff. The
minion commercial does not compare itself with other adverts in the market but instead focuses on
winning the market for minions by enlightening the customers on the supplementary drinks that
best accompany minion and displaying the environment surrounding its consumption. The
commercial generally tries to portray minion s dominance in the platform of snacks by using
different groups who have embraced its consumption in the society and its influences in the
consumption of different complementary drinks.
The aim of advertising commercials is to win the interest of different groups in the society. Art
Markman who has a PhD and is a professor of Psychology and Marketing at the University of Texas
writes in his publication What Does Advertising Do that the most powerful effect of advertising is
to create a good feeling about a product by surrounding it with other things that consumers like (1).

It may seem odd or different to admire and acclaim Folly, but there is a definite benefit to foolishness: the freedom to tell only factual information. In Praise of Folly, Erasmus put this independence to good use in repeating to the readers, a civilization significantly besmirched by mature worries, that a person is unable to serve both God and Mammon. He leveled over his irony by promising us that there is merit in being attacked by Folly (7), and closed with the recap that it s Folly and a woman who s been speaking (134), a renunciation that permitted him to be as brutal as he desired to be in his condemnation. • 8. The Importance Of Respect For The Dead Respect for the Dead Introduction The aim of the current essay was to discuss the cultural, ethical, and legal aspects concerning the respect for the dead. Besides, the cultural, ethical, and legal factors were correlated with the practice of anatomy, everyday observations, and personal experiences. Notably, what was regarded as appropriate respect for the dead varied based on an individual s cultural beliefs and ethical (religion or professional) considerations. Background The concerns associated with the respect for the dead emanate from the fact that the dead symbolise the shared destiny of humans and reminiscence of the dearly departed. Therefore, the dead are by design objects of fascination regardless of one s point of view. For instance, dead bodies elicit attention in both medical pathology and traditions that venerate the dead and those that forbid such forms of glorification. Therefore, the interests of the dead are not unique to the human anatomist only. Interest for the dead encompasses religion, sociology, art history, feminist theory, and law. Notably, the emerging multifaceted interest in the dead had raised fundamental questions regarding the limits of what was legal, ethical, and moral in the use of palatinates, cadaver, and dissected human (Jones 2016, p. 46). The fundamental concerns had been initially raised by humanity scholars, not pathologists. Such concerns were informed by key issues such as how were the dead bodies obtained ... McAllister is now an African American studies Associate Professor at the University of South Carolina, a location which promotes his credibility in his first major assertion that whiteface minstrels arose in Charleston, South Carolina. In his first chapter, McAllister claims that during the colonial and antebellum periods, whiteface minstrel shows derived from the living conditions in South Carolina. In comparison to other the other cities at the time, Charleston was relatively lenient towards slaves. An example of this is how South Carolina s dependency on skilled Africans made room for negotiations. What McAllister is trying to do is inform the readers about the origins of how minstrels arose, an appropriate move for the introduction. • 11. The Best Key Performance Indicators For The Godiva Monitor... In my opinion, the five best key performance indicators for the Godiva to monitor and measure on their ecommerce website are: number of unique visitors, bounce rate, conversion rate, average order value, and repeat customer rate. Unique visitors counts are important in determining between new versus returning site user traffic. This data is helpful for counting hits to the landing page, and beneficial in counting hits to other pages within the site as well. High traffic, and high returning traffic numbers are indicative of a healthy on line business. The more frequently a user visits the site, the more opportunity that they have to make a purchase. George Blitzer of Kommerzen.com indicates that more than one third of traffic should represent repeat visitors. He also notes that rewarding these visitors with a loyalty program is a great incentive to keep them coming back. The bounce rate will provide Godiva with the number of times a site visitor leaves their website right away. The bounce rate is calculated by the number of website page visitors that do not engage with the page (do not click on links, or interact with the page) before abandoning the page, divided by the total number of visits to the page within a given time frame. When the bounce rate rises, Godiva knows that either the site user entered the page by accident, or the site user was not interested in what they saw. A rise in bounce rate may potentially be caused by a redesign of a website page, unappealing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Biography Of Leopold s A Sand County Almanac Essay Part A When one reads Aldo Leopold s A Sand County Almanac, it is difficult to not immediately find yourself lost in Leopold s enchantment with the nature that surrounds him. Leopold describes, month by month, the activities of the animals and nature around him in such a way that one is able to truly appreciate the often missed miracles that are happening all around us. One can easily deduct that the theme of A Sand County Almanacis very boldly proclaimed as Leopold s writings tell us to pause for a moment to appreciate and conserve the beautiful world that surrounds us. Let us consider the two key words of the theme, appreciate and conserve. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word appreciate as to, recognize the worth of ( Appreciate ). Leopold wants society to take a moment to recognize the worth of nature by providing us with a descriptive glance at elements of nature that we may often take for granted, such as animals foraging for food or the history of a tree. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word conserve as to, protect (something, especially something of environmental or cultural importance) from harm or destruction ( Conserve ). Once we are able to appreciate nature, we become more aware of the importance of conservation. When you do not care about nature, it is easy to overuse and mistreat it in such a way that it harms the environment. While the main character, Buzz, and his cousin were in California, they were playing a game and overheard some disturbing words by Buzz s mother. Buzz previously had great respect for his mother and was a happy, fun kid. A turn of events changed his point of view and made him see his mother in a mean, cold view. We start to see some prejudice when Buzz s mom said He s my favorite of the boys. He s so light skinned and look at that good straight hair. But as the conversation is progressing, so is the hurtfulness of his mother s words. The final breaking point for Buzz is when his mom says I m so glad this baby didn t turn out black and ugly like Buzz As we could see through the dialogue, Buzz faced prejudice from no one but his own mother. Such a quaint, simplistic phrase that yet effectively describes the disease commonly known today as yellow fever. Over the course of history, the yellow fever virus (YFV) has decimated populations in various regions all across the globe. While the overall gross impact of yellow feverhas declined over the years, the virus still poses a significant threat present day, especially to those in the developing world. The World Health Organization currently estimates that approximately 200,000 cases of yellow fever occur around the world each year, resulting in 30,000 fatalities (Bundschuh et al, 2013). Presently, yellow fever remains without a legitimate cure, and the best defence against the virus lies with preventative action. WHO identifies its three major yellow fever prevention strategies as vaccination, mosquito control, and epidemic response (WHO Yellow Fever Fact Sheet, 2014). This being said, through the combined efforts of scientists, medical workers, governments, and international agencies alike, the yellow fever virus has been confined to endemic areas throughout Africa and Latin America (Barrett Higgs, 2007, p.209). With regards to the epidemiological nature of yellow fever, geographic factors and influences clearly play a significant role. The White Crucifixion was developed from his own life experiences and combined both traditional and new customs to further showcase the interrelation between the disheveled state of humanity that has continued to exist. This painting has stirred a lot of controversy over the years because of Chagall s sudden change in themes. Previously, Chagall focused on creating artworks centered on Jewish representations, but switched to depicting a Christian subject. The White Crucifixion leaves little doubt of Jesuss identity as a Jew and further argues the interrelationship between Judaismand Christianity. To begin, when viewers first look at the painting their eyes are drawn to the center of the image, where Jesus hangs on the cross. A light beam pours down on Jesus from above and we can see Jesus is depicted much differently than in many other crucifixion portrayals. Here Jesus is wearing a head cloth instead of a crown of thorns, a loincloth rather than traditional garments, and also has a beard. From these details, we can clearly note that Chagall is presenting Jesus as a Jew because much of the clothing parallels Jewish ritual garments. Moreover, the people above Jesus seem to be mourning His death, but are also wearing Jewish traditional clothing, such as the caps/shawls on their heads. • 23. Electrophilic Aromatic Cation Lab Report The purpose of this experiment was to perform a nitration of a monosubstituted arene by electrophilic aromatic substitution and the second part of the experiment was to determine the relative reactivities of five different arenes using electrophilic aromatic bromination. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION In electrophilic aromatic substitution, an atom that is attached to an aromatic compound is replaced by an electrophile. The stability of aromatic rings makes the need for a very strong electrophile for the molecule to be formed. Nitro groups and halogens are good examples of the kind of electrophiles that should be used. The rate of the reaction and direction are affected by the electrophile. A carbocation intermediate is formed when the electrophile attacks one of the double bonds on the molecule and breaks it. The double bond can be reformed by a nucleophile that attacks it as a base. As stated, a very strong electrophilic ion is needed to change the stability of the aromatic ring. In the case of two electrophiles, the stronger one should be used to create the strong cation which can then break the double bond. A line of events that for centuries have been reported by the world s oldest storytellers: journalists. Yet, the future of journalism itself has never been as uncertain and unpredictable as it has been in the past decade and the role of gatekeepers of news has never been more precarious. The digital era has brought traditional journalism to the edge, forcing the industry to update its means in order to sustain the constant commercial pressure it is put under. On some level, the digital era disrupted an already easily corruptible industry, while from another perspective, it has opened new opportunities for innovation and renovation, which could mean the restoring of such criticized profession. It is inferable that the Fourth Estate , as in journalism acting as a watchdog and as provider of objective and impartial news, is in great danger. The pressure to maximise profits and the frequent censorship, both as a result of government control, and market ownership, have undermined the industry s professionalism as a whole. At the same time, new media has been claimed to be a dynamic tool to enhance democracy, as it allows citizens to bypass the traditional mainstream news media and to get access to a plurality of information coming from alternative and independent news providers and online watchdog organizations, untouched by any kind of pressure. ... Such railcars were a major accomplishment but it would be another thirty years before the next giant leap forward. In 1888 electric cars began to appear in the United States and abroad as a spillover from the previous technology. The most successful car was built by William Morrison of Des Moines, Iowa and could run for thirteen consecutive hours at a speed of fourteen miles per hour. However, much of the success of this was due to the promotional work from Harold Sturges, secretary of the American Battery Company. This theme would develop over and over again in the life of all alternative fuel systems where success came not from actual integrity, but from force from an outside source. For the next couple years electric cars seemed like they represented the future of travel. They were adopted by the postal service and companies began to profit from their production. General Electric began to produce cars in 1898 and achieved a land speed record for a car that went 39.25 miles per hour, a speed that gas powered cars could not come close to beating. At this point the market for electric cars was big enough were a couple of firms were successful. Due to the level of competition between these firms technological advance gained speed because companies were trying to separate their product from the others. Game of Thrones is an award winning television show that first aired in 2011, and has just completed its seventh season. The show is based on fantasy novels created by the author George R.R. Then across the sea, on the continent of Essos, the previous heir to the throne of a usurped dynasty plan to take back their rightful throne. We think of dirty old creepy men. I for one used to do this, I won t lie. This is because people like to rush to judgment. But my opinions changed when I came to the realization that it s not just creepy old men who are sex offenders. I want to talk about them, but not those who are serial rapists or child molesters; they don t deserve to be talked about. I m talking about people who are convicted, whether it s falsely, or unjustly, and have to wear a stamp on their forehead for the rest of their lives saying they are a sex offender. I have an uncle named Michael and he s 29; he ll be 31 in October. In 2006 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, he was convicted of rape. Historians have debated whether the event was a massacre of innocent lives caused by the Colorado Fuel Iron (CF I) or as a battle between the company workers and the company militiamen. The CF I stated that the event was an act of its workers to demilitarize the company and to prevent importation of strikebreakers . In 2013, it was reported that 32 million adults, 14 percent of our population, could not read. Twenty one percent of the adults that same year read below a fifth grade level. Additionally, nineteen percent of the high school graduates could not read (Maddie Crum. The U.S. Illiteracy Rate Hasn t Changed In 10 Years. The Huffington Post). This is alarming in a wealthy country like the United States. Our society will suffer from illiteracy in socioeconomic issues if we continue to abandon readingin future years. King Louis XVIII agreed to the creation of a constitution and promised a constitutional monarchy, with a bicameral parliament, religious toleration, and constitutional rights for all citizens. However, the parliament was composed of extremely right wing royalists and was dismissed in 1816 due to disagreements. Louis XVIII later died in 1824, but he spent the rest of his time at the throne trying to heal the wounds of the Revolution. Following the death of Louis XVIII, his brother Charles X took the throne in 1824. Though the people were optimistic at the beginning of his reign, the opinion of the new king eventually turned sour. Charles X returned the land to the enemies of the Revolution that had been during the time under Napoleon, largely at the expense of bourgeois holders of government bonds. Charles X was also not religiously tolerant. He was a devoted Catholic, thus giving a large amount of power to the clergy and imposed the death penalty for refusing the Eucharist or any other religious sacraments. As Charles X lost support in parliament and from the general population, he felt the need to suspend the elections for officials because of radical motives. On July 26th, by Article 14 of the Charter, Charles X was able to put into action the July Ordinances, which included four rules: censored the press, dissolved the newly elected chamber, altered the electoral system, and called for elections in September.
