Gender Pay Gap
Gender Pay Gap The economic issue with the gender pay gap has been a concern for quite some time.
Many people say that men are paid more money, or have higher salaries than women; however, there
are also people who believe otherwise. Some argue that maternity leave or education level is a reason
why women seem to be paid less than men, and others argue that there is a bigger issue such as race
and age. The following information will address both viewpoints on the gender pay gap and its issues
within the economy, as well as history of women in the workforce.
History In Colonial America, women stayed at home and took care of the household, took care of the
children, made clothes, and made sure that there was food on the table while the men were at war.
During this time, a group was formed called The Daughters of Liberty. These women were successful
in proving that women can be beneficial to the new country in terms of politics and working. They
also wanted to steer away from the British lifestyle while men wanted to keep their traditions. They
refused to buy clothes, tea, or any other items that came from England, no matter what it was. They
formed spinning societies to make their own clothing, as well as clothing for their male family
members. This made America less dependent on British textiles, (Answers.) These Colonial American
women wanted to prove that they were committed to the cause of liberty and industry, (Answers.)
They also had a big influence on the war

Is Horace s Anger In The Culture Of The Roman Empire Under...
In the documents, The Third Satire and The Odes, the bitter Juvenal and frustrated Horace openly
display their opinion about the Roman Empire under the emperors Augustus and Domitian.
Acting out on his stern anger for the temples and shrines in desperate need of repairs, Horace
instinctively accuses the guiltless to pay for [their] fathers sins (Horace.1). Horace becomes agitated to
an extreme extent because of the absence of respect for the gods within their temples and shrines. The
polluted shrines and images of gods have become sorrowful as they slowly decay over neglect in favor
of other priorities. Horace strongly believes that shrines, temples, and the images of gods alike shall
often be repaired, never neglected, and prioritized within the culture of the new Roman Empire under
Augustus Octavian. When talking about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Horace believes that marriage should happen only once in a man or woman s life, and they should stay
loyal to each other no matter what the circumstances. During this time period, the Roman citizens
practiced sexual immorality as a normal part of life and showed great greed in their actions. Horace
exhibits his irritated and angry attitude when talking about this subject because he values marriage
vows and sexual morality more than sinful nature. He strives to change the nature of the people back
to the way Augustus wants it because he values the patronage Augustus has given him. As the
downfall of the Roman Empire continues, Juvenal describes the citizens with blackmail in their hearts
(Juvenal.500). Juvenal stresses the fact that the citizens of Rome become disloyal to one another.

The Total Number Of Clinical Trials
The total number of clinical trials in Portugal has recently experienced a reduction in a
12
13 worrying trend revealing a significant loss of competitiveness in this field. Between 2006 and
14 2012 the number of trials decreased by 26%, i.e. from 160 to 118 studies. The trough in these
16 numbers only arrived in 2011, when just 88 studies took place. This trend shall only either
17
18 prevent or hinder the achievement of social and/or political benefits, such as the improvement
19
20 of medical and supportive care, job creation, the organization of health facilities and early
21 access to innovative medicines and research methodologies 1. The reasons for this decrease
22
23 stem from numerous aspects, including the cost and difficulties of attracting volunteers to
24
25 participate in such studies.
26
27
28 The effectiveness of a clinical trial depends on the size of its sample, sample homogeneity,
29
30 the similarity of the results and the differences among the mean values for each group. In this
31 kind of study, it proves very difficult to achieve the minimum participant numbers required to
32
33 obtain the ideal sample size. This situation occurs for various reasons including the study cost,
34
35 the low frequency of certain diseases, uncertainty about the effects of treatment, and among
36 others 2.

The Twelfth Day of July
The Twelfth Day of July
Task: Explain how Kevin and Sadie change by the end of the novel
The Twelfth Day of July is a book by Joan Lingard. This book is about the discord between the
Catholic and Protestant religions. It centres on the characters of Kevin McCoy, who is Catholic, and
Sadie Jackson, who is Protestant and how their friendship develops despite the religious bigotry which
affects the country they live in. The Twelfth Day of July is a celebration in Northern Ireland, for
Protestants which started in the 18th century celebrating the Glorious Revolution and the victory of
Protestant King Billy over Catholic King James II at the Battle of Boyne in 1690.
In the first chapter the book is set in a Protestant street. We are ... Show more content on

Sadie is infuriated by the events of that day and decides that she is going to go back to Kevin s house
and wreak havoc if she can. She leaves her house in the middle of the night and sneaks into Kevin s,
there she writes on the McCoy s kitchen table KING BILLY WAS HERE. LONG LIVE KING BILLY
. She thinks she has got away with it when she hears a noise behind her; she turns around only to be
confronted by Kevin. She tries to run out the kitchen and throws flour all over the place as a
distraction. She succeeded, she got out of the kitchen and hid in a stinky bin, she heard voices outside
the bin, Kevin giving orders to his friends to find her. The smell of the bin made her wretch, but she
could not leave it just yet, someone kicked the bin and she felt the vibrations through her body. She
felt like she was in there for an eternity. Eventually the voices faded and she left the bin but not the
area.
The next morning her brother goes into her room to wake her only to find her bed empty, he thinks
this is strange, he goes down stairs and there is still no sign of Sadie. He decides to go to Kevins house
and asked his friends Linda and Steve to go with him, they go in search of Sadie, when they arrive at
Kevins house they are told by the McCoy s that they have not seen her so they go home to speak to his
parents by this time he is really worries about his sister. After speaking to his parents they all decide to

Halloween from Its Beginning to Now
Halloween From Its Beginnings to Now Halloween is celebrated almost all around the world. Though
the name may differ from region to region, the original customs of halloween can be found
everywhere. Day of the Dead , Kawasasqanchis , Dance of the Hooded Egunguns , and Bon Festival
are just a few of the many celebrations that, if one were to look at their traditions and when the
celebrations were made, would see that they derive from the origin of Halloween. The many
celebrations similar to Halloween all share similar themes such as: contact with the spirit world
involving the spirits of the dead, fairies, witches, and the devil and evil spirit creatures. How did
Halloween become what it is today? Starting in 5th century B.C.E., the Celts celebrated a festival at
the end of each October, a time in which they believed ghosts and demons would roam the earth more
than other times of the year. The festival was called Samhain (meaning summer s end ). As the days
became shorter (in a sense of the amount of time the sun is visible), the celtics thought that they had to
reinvigorate the sun. They would do this by putting all fires out, symbolising the dying old year , then
have a sacred bonfire to scare away evil spirits. (The tradition of bonfires during holidays stemming
from holloween are seen today in Britain on Guy Fawkes Night, and Brazil s June Festivals. Starting
in first century C.E., the Romans conquered the Celtics and adopted the spiritistic rituals of

Analysis Of Binary Oppositions In Heathers
Nietzsche wrote that language invents truths that do not have an actual reference to the outside world.
One of the primary examples are binary oppositions: two terms that give each other meaning when
they are compared. The conflicting terms serve to simplify concepts down to their most basic forms.
In literary works, however, the binary oppositions that are presented are often deconstructed. In
Heathers, the main drama of the story comes from the ideas of conformity and nonconformity. As the
story takes place in a high school ruled by an all powerful clique, students who mold themselves to the
Heathers are well liked. Those who do not resemble them whether because they are unpopular or
because they try to actively rebel against the norm are deemed outcasts. Veronica s internal conflict
stems from her being torn between these two worlds. A part of her wants to follow in the footsteps of
the Heathers in order to be just as admired as they are; on the other hand, she does not enjoy being
around them, and finds herself gravitating back towards other nonconformists. Beyond just Veronica s
struggle, deconstruction is also presented in the character arcs of McNamara, Duke, and J.D. To begin
with, Nietzsche believed that all binary oppositions have a single term that is superior. He wrote that,
Metaphysical philosophy has hitherto surmounted this difficulty that the one originates in the other
and assuming for the more valued thing a miraculous source in the very kernel and

Henrietta Lacks Legacy
A legacy is a something which is passed from older generations to younger generations. Something to
be remembered. One example can be Henrietta Lacks cells who were known as the first human
immortal cells. They exist to this day, thus having their own legacy. Henrietta Lacks, however, was
barely credited for such cells. Which is the reason why she was long forgotten until this book was
published. One participant who helped bring up a forgotten legacy is the author of the book, Rebecca
Skloot. Nonetheless, I chose to write about Dr. George Gey, whom I think started the process of this
legacy. Dr. George Gey was a doctor who diagnosed Henrietta Lacks with cervical cancer. He then
took hold of some cells from the tissue of her tumor on her cervix,

Imprisoned by My Fear of Reading
There it was sitting, on my desk. Everytime I looked down, I would get frightened just by its presence.
My face would turn bright red and my dry throat would anxiously swallow so loud that I clearly could
hear it sitting at my desk. Remembering the story that I read the night before was almost unattainable
for me. Understanding the large vocabulary and heavy wording of each question was nearly
impossible for me to understand, similar to communicating with an illiterate foreigner in English.
Often, randomly circling answers and guessing would be my last resort to a successful completion of
the test, while hoping for a presentable grade. Reading comprehension has always been one my
weaknesses ever since the first day I picked up a book. This weakness was not one that I could easily
overlook and with each new day, it brought upon a new level of embarrassment as I sat in school
envious of my classmates. If I were to describe myself in two words, I would choose the words
passionate and determined. However, I did not develop this personality until my last year in
elementary school. All throughout elementary school, I struggled in numerous subjects, especially in
reading and grammar. In fact, I was one of the weakest students in the class. I was always below my
grade s required reading level and while majority of my peers were ahead and always looking for
books in higher reading level shelves, I would always be found in the opposite side of the school
library where they kept the

To be able to achieve that goal, hedge funds employ varied strategies. To understand hedge fund, let s
try to understand one of the strategies commonly seen, that is selling short . Let s assume that we have
two securities that are related to each other, that is, their price behaves similarly to the market
conditions. They move in together over time. Let s assume that at some point in time, they diverge for
whatever reason. This divergence is seen as an opportunity to minimize the risks (or may be
greediness!) and make big profits irrespective of how the market is performing. The hedge fund would
buy security that is selling below its normal range, as it is expected to increase relative to A, and
would sell security A short. Short selling (also known as shorting or going short) is the practice of
selling assets, usually securities, that have been borrowed from a third party (usually a broker) with
the intention of buying identical assets back at a later date to return to the lender.
To understand it even better, let s put some numbers and try to phrase it so that anyone can understand
the concept. Let s consider Beans and Rice, since they are so closely related, we assume that their
price always shows similar trends. Difference between their prices is always a dollar and beans are
always less than rice. For example if rice is 5$ a

The Idealization of Science in Sinclair Lewis Arrowsmith...
The Idealization of Science in Sinclair Lewis Arrowsmith
Sinclair Lewis s 1924 novel Arrowsmith follows a pair of bacteriologists, Martin Arrowsmith and his
mentor Max Gottlieb, as they travel through various professions in science and medicine in the early
decades of the twentieth century. Through the brilliant researcher Gottlieb and his protégé, Lewis
explores the status and role of scientific work at universities, in industry, and at a private research
foundation as well as in various medical positions. The picture he presents is one of tension and
conflict between the goals and ideals of pure science and the environments in which his protagonists
have to operate. Although Gottlieb and Arrowsmith are able to pursue their research ... Show more

Each of these debates is visible in Arrowsmith. However, as one might expect of a novel, Lewis s
description of the tensions exaggerates them. Though scientists did face some difficulties in pursuing
their research in industry and academia, they were almost universally able to accept compromise and
work out satisfactory arrangements. Many even embraced the various ideals and goals that Lewis sets
in opposition to pure science. Very few if any scientists found it necessary to flee to the woods in
order to pursue their research, as Arrowsmith does.
The early chapters of Arrowsmith are set in the first decade of the twentieth century and explore the
fictional University of Winnemac, where Arrowsmith is first an undergraduate and then attends the
medical school in which Gottlieb works. Overall, the atmosphere at the university is relatively hostile
to the scientific research which Gottlieb and Arrowsmith pursue. Gottlieb is generally dismissed as an
old laboratory plug, a crapehanger who wasted time destroying the theories of others instead of
making new ones of his own. 2 He is forced to waste his time teaching elementary bacteriology to
Dummköpfe,3 while Arrowsmith is forced to waste his time taking classes unrelated to the research he
wants to do. Gottlieb s ill conceived attempt to make research the focus of the Winnemac medical
school fails dramatically and costs him

Photo Editing Analysis
I know my audience very well in New Mexico and some areas in Arizona, as for the rest of the world,
no, I have no idea. Just getting my work shown in New Mexico will keep me busy for a while and
until I graduate I do not have the time to find out.
My method of editing is very light, I try not to crop, this is why I take 30 to 40 photographs on one
subject matter and I keep the original raw photograph in a file. I have to edit my photographs in
Photoshop because I take my photographs in color, just for that reason, some people like color better, I
have to add contrast to achieve the depth in my black and white photographs.

When they talked about gallery presentation I have found that the gallery are the ones who say what
they want as to horizontal or vertical, and for a photographic series they keep the collection together. I

that allows for a symmetrical presentation with clean lines throughout.
Editing for Print Publication
In this part of the module on editing for print publication magazines the images are rectangular and
vertically oriented and I am aware that some magazines like both. However, I am sure the magazine
will let the photographer know what they want or what is in the contract as regards to editing a

This is something new I learned, when dealing with spread images nothing important should be in the
center where the fold is, photographs in which the important details are off center and to the side work
best for spreads.

Hedge Funds And Hedge Fund
Hedge Funds are actively managed instruments with flexible mandates that allow fund managers to
invest opportunistically in long and short positions across all asset classes.
This type of investment vehicle has existed for over half a century. The first hedge fund was created
by Alfred Winslow Jones in 1949.
His strategy, while simple, had never been used in the asset management world. His idea was to buy
stocks which seemed undervalued and short those which presented the worst outlook. This strategy
allowed him to protect himself against a fall in the equity markets. He later started using leverage in
order to improve his returns by taking additional risk.
Even though his hedge fund outperformed long only asset managers for many years, ... Show more

ii) Equity Hedge Funds:
a) What are the different subcategories?
We are mostly interested by the classic equity hedge funds, also known as long short funds, and more
specifically we would like to know how they differ from long only funds in terms of performance and
risk.
As we have mentioned above, this is the oldest hedge fund investment style but it comes in many
different forms: quantitative or fundamental, broadly diversified or highly concentrated, market
neutral or directional. Furthermore, some strategies use more leverage and focus on individual market
sectors or factors.
In their paper, Hedge Funds with style , Brown and Goetzmann (2001) have described the most
popular strategies used by hedge funds and furthermore they have tried explaining the impact of the
different styles on performance. They looked at the performance of each strategy, from 1989 to 2000,
and learned that the choice of style impacts returns circa 20 percent of the time. This would in turn
have an effect on the risk return trade off, stressing how crucial the fund s style and management are.
They have used statistical models (regressions and ANOVA tables) to analyze the variability between
the performances of seventeen fund strategies. The results revealed that eight of those styles had high
R² and adjusted R², meaning that changes in the style explained most of

Analysis Of Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening, By...
Robert Frost is a great American poet that mastered the art of eloquently imprinting his readers with
an overarching idea, or theme, through his use of symbolic language, precise picture painting, and
metronome rhyme and meter. Frost addresses many different themes across his poems, but sometimes
has similar methods of displaying his themes; three of the most prominent are the crossroads of a
decision in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, the battle between desire and hate in Fire and
Ice, and the loss of innocence in Nothing Gold Can Stay.
Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening is all about the internal debates that occur when making a
decision. The poem is designed to unsettle certitude as Guy Rotella, a literary critic, put ... Show more

The connection between Earth and a relationship is a little more subtle since he does not outright say
it, but due to fire and ice being connected to emotions that come from the world of a relationship the
reader can assume their connection to the world in the poem. Fire and Ice also draws on Frost s
tendency to unsettle certitude since, as Guy Rotella put it, he concludes with a point that ends up
reopening what he had already closed earlier in the poem (253). Frost once again never makes a
decision in this poem, he just uses the metaphor to debate with himself on why either desire or hate
could be the one to destroy a relationship. Similarly to Fire and Ice, Robert Frost also uses an
extended metaphor to show the theme in Nothing Gold Can Stay. Frost tells the story of how the most
beautiful part of Spring only lasts a short time in couplets of iambic trimeter, and it is not until line six
until the true meaning of this poem is exposed, So Eden sank to grief (Frost). This is alluding to the
Garden of Eden story from the Bible when mankind was banished from the garden; which also reveals
the reasoning for personifying Spring earlier in the poem by saying gold was Her Hardest hue to hold
(Frost, 2). Frost wants the reader to connect mankind s falling from the

Notes On The Y Formacion Del Derecho

Improper Pain Case Study Nursing
Pain
1. Asian cultures typically deal with pain differently than white, Anglo Saxon cultures. The Asian

undoubtedly learned to keep her feelings to herself (D Amico Barbarito, 2016, Chapter 11).

Pain is subjective. Its control should be a multifaceted approach. Pain medication can be used in
combination with complementary and alternative methods. One complementary or alternative
approach is the distraction technique. Distraction is focusing one s thoughts away from pain. It does
not take the pain away, it simply changes the focus to another topic or object. The focus can be as
simple as an inanimate object, music, games, or television shows. The goal is to become so engrossed
in that activity or concentrated on that object that the pain is in the background as opposed to the
forefront of one s thoughts. It is best to practice this technique when pain is not at its height. This will

And they are often unaware of their culture and how it colors what they see. Now that culture has a
definition and there is a set understanding that how we see the world is through a cultural context, it is
only fair to say that how we see the gospel is through a cultural context. This truth becomes a problem
for many because of cultural differences.
Cultural differences does not negate church unity. In fact cultural diversity in the unity of Christian
faith reflects the beauty, the creativity, and the glory of God. Acts 17:26 tells us And He has made
from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre
appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope
that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us . This Scripture
itself informs us that God is all about diversity and bringing diversity to Him. Revelation 7:9 says
After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations,
tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white
robes, with palm branches in their hands . It can and should be said that God isn t bothered or limited
by cultural diversity. If Christianity is uniform in doctrine, it will be uniform in practice, but that

Social Media s Negative Effects On College Athletes
The number of coaches and teams who don t allow players to use social media has decreased in recent
years[...]as coaches realize that many players will use them anyway(Deshazo 2). Social media has
become one of the easiest ways to speak your mind and have your voice heard. However, with power
comes responsibility, if athletes are not extremely careful about what they choose to announce, it can
be dangerous for their career. There has been a numerous amount of cases where an athlete post or
says something that they should not have and it costs them their career. Social media can be dangerous
for athletes because it can ruin their good reputation and it can become a huge distraction to their
career. Social media can put an athlete`s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If an athlete receives criticism through social media, it can affect their mental game. It can make them
feel pressured or it can bring them down. Athletes are still considered human and can still get their
feelings hurt. It`s not easy performing for your college, state, or even nation. Adding onto that,
criticism is the last thing that athletes need. Regardless of how good or bad of a player you are, there
will always be those fans that say rude and inappropriate comments on social media, there is no way
to avoid it. A published study found that distractions and criticism can drain mental energy leading to
a decrease in how good they perform (Cohn 1). The best thing for athletes to do is just ignore the
criticism by not even going on social media at all. Social media makes athletes feel as if they need to
perform good for online glory. It is proven that social media can become a distraction and interfere
with an athlete`s ability to focus on their sport (Puymbroeck 1). Receiving distractions can provoke a
negative mood and stress, which can then take up mental energy. The athlete will feel down and will
not perform at their best. When the athletes goes on social media and reads comments and fans
taunting them, they can feel as if they aren t good enough or that they don t belong on the team. The

M amp;S clothing could also be sold through Sainsbury s stores, providing a powerful boost to the
supermarket s non food business. Last night one City analyst said there was a lot of logic surrounding
the deal and suggested a move could come soon.
He said: M amp;S have a fantastic property portfolio, there would be huge synergies between the two
companies. M amp;S is strong in non food, Sainsbury is strong in food and Sainsbury is desperately
trying to get into non food so a deal is a possibility. It would also help to find a successor to Sir Stuart
Rose.
Despite Rose persuading the City that the company s profits are going to take a hit while the recession
lasts, he has enraged some shareholders by breaching the City s best practice standards with his twin
roles of chairman and chief executive.
City investors and local authority pension funds that hold shares in M amp;S have demanded that the
company appoint an independent chairman or a new chief executive by next summer, and it is now
widely expected that Rose will step down long before the mid 2011 deadline set last year. A potential
tie up between the two has been rumbling ever since Rose let slip at a retail conference in 2007 that
his shareholders would consider him an idiot if he did not think about mounting a takeover, before

African American Music
African and American Music: Two Distinctive Journeys of Pleasure
African music has been one of the most interesting topics in the music world. Unlike any other
culture, music in Africa is a way of life. Throughout its rich and evolving history, music has always
played a crucial role in the African culture. Consequently, music in the African society allows
outsiders to gain an insight into the different aspects of their culture and the norms of the society.
American music is rich in history and tradition, but it takes a different path compared to the African

Character Recognition By Machines, An Innovative Way By...
Abstract Character Recognition by machines is an innovative way by which the dependence on
manpower is reduced. Character recognition provides a reliable alternative of converting manual text
into digitized format. Now a days, as technology becomes integral part of human life, many
applications have enabled the incorporation of English OCR for real time inputs. The advantages that
the English alphabet has is its simplicity offered by less number of letters i.e. 26 and easier
classification due to the concept of lowercase and uppercase. If we consider Devnagari script in this
scenario, we will come across myriad hurdles because this script lacks the simplicity of English. The
concept of fused letters, modifiers, shirorekha and spitting similarities in some letters make
recognition difficult. Also, character recognition for handwritten text is far more complex than that for
machine printed characters. This is because of the versatility and different writing techniques adopted
by people. The direction of strokes, pressure applied on writing equipments, quality of writing
equipment and the mentality of the writer itself highly affects the written text. These problems when
combined with the intricate details of Devnagari script, the complications in constructing a HCR of
this script are increased. The proposed system focuses on these two issues by adopting Hough
transform for detecting features from lines and curves. Further, for classification, SVM is used. These

By having multiple roles in the community and being the Sheriff of Bentrock, it puts Wesley in an
even tougher position. Wesley is seen as a well respected member of the community, but during the
novel he becomes very conflicted with himself and has to face one of the biggest decisions of his life
when he has to chose between family or justice. He overcomes this conflict with himself by making
the right decision no matter what anyone else thinks or is trying to tell him. There is plenty of
description of Wesley at the beginning and through the novel. His conflict can be seen When he
challenges gail Are you telling me this because i m Frank s brother? Because i m your husband?
Because i m Marie employer? ... Or because i m the sheriff? . This shows us that he is not sure what to

locks Frank in the basement instead of taking him straight to the police. He knows that Wesley needs

How Would You Feel If You Had An Opportunity To Assemble
How would you feel if you had an opportunity to assemble your meal in the morning, leave it in the
slow cooker, and by the time you come back home, dinner is ready? Well, that s the beauty of owning
a slow cooker. It saves your time, helps you prepare nutritious meals and most importantly it saves lots
of electric energy. But much as this method can be an economical choice, there are always some smart
techniques you can use to make the most of these appliances as well as maximize on safety.
(1)Invest In a Programmable Slow Cooker
If you are the busy type and you plan to use your slow cooker for many hours while you are away
from your house, the safes choice is to invest in a programmable unit. This advanced type of cookers

High temperature boiling helps you kill all bacteria thereby making the meal safe for your entire
family. Some bacteria in our food can survive in temperatures of as high as 165 degrees, so make sure
you exceed that level in the first 30 minutes of the cooking process. The remaining time, you can
switch the cooker to low heat.
(4)Best Practices of Slow Cooking Frozen Food
Whenever you find that you need to prepare frozen food in the cooker, the best way to go about it is to
first defrost it. Also, ensure that all other ingredients you add to are at least at room temperature. By
doing this you will be sure to attain the right cooking temperature within the recommended cooking
time. Considering cooking some freezer meal? Start by thawing it overnight or microwave it before
dipping it in your pot. The reason for this is that slow cookers are not meant to break down solid ice
blocks and your food might take too long to prepare (meaning it might be unsafe for you after all).
(5)Put Just the Right Amounts of Content
Overloading or under loading your cooker is a big no no. Slower cookers are designed to
accommodate two thirds or half full contents essentially leaving enough space for the cooking process
to take place. Anything above or below that would affect the cooking process. For instance, less than
normal quantities could mean that the liquid will evaporate too fast leaving the food to burn. Above
normal quantities on the other hand would result in

Pathophysiology Of Asthma
Introduction:
Asthma comes from the Greek meaning of short of breath which the world has come to known as
asthma which is shortness of breath. Henry Hyde Salter was the first person to describe asthma in
which he stated: airways narrow due to contraction of their smooth muscle. William Osler known as
the father of medicine described asthma as a spasm of the bronchial muscles, swelling of the bronchial
mucous membrane, the special form of inflammation of the smaller bronchioles, similar to hay fever,
runs in families, begins in childhood and sometimes lasts into old age, can induce a paroxysm. Asthma
was understood about around 1980s when they figured out how the specific allergen exposure causes a

The mucous metaplasia is caused by production and storage of mucins increasing in secretory cells
and club cells. MUC5B and MUC5AC are types of bronchial epithelial cells mRNA which help
mucous clearing and protect against airway infection. This has been thought to be a major player in
airway problems in asthma. IL 13 binding causes mucous metaplasia. This is caused by the binding of
IL 13 which leads to Jak kinases activation and then phosphorylation of transducer and then STAT6.
This STAT6 pathway deals with calcium activated chloride channel one which is also known as
CLCA1 and is the gene related to the airway epithelial cells. In asthma, however, this channel doesn t
function as it normal function which is an ion channel but goes through secretion and cleavage. This
channel can induce MUC5AC through MAP kinase MAPk13. The inflammation aspect of asthma
occurs from a cascade of events usually is a type 2 inflammation dealing with types of CD4+ T cells
like Th2 cells. This pathway deals with a lot of mediators that cause inflammation, IgE, mucosal
surfaces, smooth muscles, and mast cells. When the IgE is created in the body, it is circulated through
the bloodstream.

typical age is 17 70 years old. In the United States the legal age to gamble is 21 in most casinos and in

Internet gambling is easy to get hooked on. There are advertisements for casinos at almost all of the
major search engines and home pages (ex: yahoo, metacrawler, excite etc.) Many of these
advertisements claim that they have free gambling or give away free money. For example one casino
will give you $125.00 for a $50.00 deposit. Do you think they would really give you that money if
they weren t confident that you would get hooked and spend it all there or if they thought that they
wouldn t get it all back? Once they have lured you to their websites it is easy for them to get your
money. It seems a lot easier to spend virtual casino tokens purchased with a credit card than it is to
spend your actual hard earned cash at a real casino. Another obvious problem with having online
casinos is that children have easy access to them. There is no way to check ID. Anyone with a credit
card number can play. Parents of children who gamble online are legally responsible for the debt that
their children accumulate. It is especially easy if the parents have already been to that particular casino
and set up an account. All the child would need is a password and many computer operating systems
have the option of saving passwords and filling them in for the user. Young people are especially
vulnerable to Internet gambling. In virtually all studies of the rates of gambling problems at various
ages, high school and college aged individuals show the highest problem rates, said

If you ever become a marketer, then your friend in the company should be the accountant
These were the words of advise given to me by my Marketing professor at Red McCombs School of

The above words also applies to all persons leading an Innovation projects: Be it new product

When developing a plan for an innovation project, it is best to sit with an accountant and comeup with
a financial plan. Gather the financial information that determines the viability of the project, at what
levels of expenditure the projects become unviable, develop a plan to monitor the project expenses
and constantly review the viability of the project. To do all this, you have to work with the accountant
as a partner in progress.
Also remember this: Money speaks louder than ideas!
So if your idea is backed by the accountant, then people will listen to you.
Track all your Costs
Once a project is approved, then managers need to keep a close tab on the costs of the project. But that
s in an ideal world.
Reality in most organizations is that product/development managers have little clue of what their
current costs are, what their total costs is, and how much more money will they need to complete the
project. I have spoken to several development managers in several fortune 500 companies, and they
don t know their numbers, instead they will talk about the time frame of the project, head count etc.,
but not the numbers because they do not know the numbers and nobody in the organization will ever
tell them.
Smaller companies tend to do better. Managers in smaller companies know the costs and therefore can
take better and faster decisions.

Words As Sweet As Honey From Sakhambi Short Story
The story Words as Sweet as Honey From Sankhambi is a story being retold by a children s book
specialist Linda Rode. Sankhambi plays a big part in many Venda folktales and is very alike to
Hlakanyana from Zulu Folklore. He takes on many different shapes and sizes in these tales but one
thing for certain is wherever he is there is always trouble. This story is about how monkeys became
tall, slender, quick, and nimble from being short, and fat. Back in the early days the monkeys were fat,
little, pot bellied animals that moved rather slowly. They were not nearly as nimble or quick as they
are today, and there body shape was much different. Sankhambi had a lot of fun sneaking up behind
the monkeys and pulling their tails. Obviously the monkeys were not too happy about this and would
throw seeds and bits at him from high in the tree tops while he lay there basking in the sun.
Sankhambi hated the monkey business and one day he decided that he was going to put a stop to it. He
approached the monkeys and said in his sweetest voice that he wanted to tell his dear monkey friends
a big secret. The eldest monkey called out to the other monkeys not to listen to him, because it was
just another one of his wicked tricks. Sankhambi begged and pleaded the monkeys to listen to him for
this very special event. Monkeys are naturally curious animals so they slowly began to climb down the
tree to listen to Sankhambi. Sankhambi with his voice sweet as honey told them that he would like to

The Importance Of Abortion In The United States
Should abortion be legal in the United States? This question has been a huge argument for quite some
time now. Everyone has their own opinion, I am without a doubt prolife. Abortion should be illegal for
thousands of reason. Some reasons that make me so passionate that abortion should be illegal is the
fact that abortion is murder, it s making human life disposable, there are other options instead of
abortion like adoption, abortion can cause serious medical problems in a women, and there are many
women looking to adopt children.
If murder is illegal why isn t abortion, abortion is just another form of murder. It s making human life
disposable by giving women the chance to get rid of a problem they do not want to deal with. No one
would kill a one year old child because they didn t feel like dealing with them anymore so why should
abortion be allowed? Every person should be giving the chance of life, abortion is taking away the

The Drunk Bus Should Be Kept Around
I remember hearing stories of such a thing called the drunk bus before I came to college, but I was not

necessity at college since there will always be drinking. This way, when all of the students are done

Sober students ride the bus as well
Not every person who gets on the bus is intoxicated. I have talked with many of my friends and they
tell me that they hardly ever are intoxicated when they go on the bus, but the just want to have a good

fear (Julio, 76). Even though the United is one of the most prosperous countries in the world, it is not
immune to poverty. In 2014, 46.7 million people (15%) were in poverty in the United States. This is
no small issue, and one that we as Christians are called to combat. In the United States poverty is a
national problem, however, it is most prevalent in the inner cities. The inner city is defined as, A
general term for impoverished areas of large cities. The inner city is characterized by minimal
educational opportunities, high unemployment and crime rates, broken families, and inadequate
housing (Dictionary.com). Although, according to the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC),
absolute poverty is higher in the suburbs than in the inner cities, affecting 11 million people compared
to 8 million people in the inner cities, poverty is still concentrated in the inner cities and is more
prevalent there. The inner cities comprise less than 1% of land area versus the suburbs which comprise
17% of total land area nearly 100x that of inner cities. Overall, 3 in 10

  • 2. Gender Pay Gap Gender Pay Gap The economic issue with the gender pay gap has been a concern for quite some time. Many people say that men are paid more money, or have higher salaries than women; however, there are also people who believe otherwise. Some argue that maternity leave or education level is a reason why women seem to be paid less than men, and others argue that there is a bigger issue such as race and age. The following information will address both viewpoints on the gender pay gap and its issues within the economy, as well as history of women in the workforce. History In Colonial America, women stayed at home and took care of the household, took care of the children, made clothes, and made sure that there was food on the table while the men were at war. During this time, a group was formed called The Daughters of Liberty. These women were successful in proving that women can be beneficial to the new country in terms of politics and working. They also wanted to steer away from the British lifestyle while men wanted to keep their traditions. They refused to buy clothes, tea, or any other items that came from England, no matter what it was. They formed spinning societies to make their own clothing, as well as clothing for their male family members. This made America less dependent on British textiles, (Answers.) These Colonial American women wanted to prove that they were committed to the cause of liberty and industry, (Answers.) They also had a big influence on the war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Is Horace s Anger In The Culture Of The Roman Empire Under... In the documents, The Third Satire and The Odes, the bitter Juvenal and frustrated Horace openly display their opinion about the Roman Empire under the emperors Augustus and Domitian. Acting out on his stern anger for the temples and shrines in desperate need of repairs, Horace instinctively accuses the guiltless to pay for [their] fathers sins (Horace.1). Horace becomes agitated to an extreme extent because of the absence of respect for the gods within their temples and shrines. The polluted shrines and images of gods have become sorrowful as they slowly decay over neglect in favor of other priorities. Horace strongly believes that shrines, temples, and the images of gods alike shall often be repaired, never neglected, and prioritized within the culture of the new Roman Empire under Augustus Octavian. When talking about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Horace believes that marriage should happen only once in a man or woman s life, and they should stay loyal to each other no matter what the circumstances. During this time period, the Roman citizens practiced sexual immorality as a normal part of life and showed great greed in their actions. Horace exhibits his irritated and angry attitude when talking about this subject because he values marriage vows and sexual morality more than sinful nature. He strives to change the nature of the people back to the way Augustus wants it because he values the patronage Augustus has given him. As the downfall of the Roman Empire continues, Juvenal describes the citizens with blackmail in their hearts (Juvenal.500). Juvenal stresses the fact that the citizens of Rome become disloyal to one another. Socially, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Total Number Of Clinical Trials The total number of clinical trials in Portugal has recently experienced a reduction in a 12 13 worrying trend revealing a significant loss of competitiveness in this field. Between 2006 and 14 2012 the number of trials decreased by 26%, i.e. from 160 to 118 studies. The trough in these 16 numbers only arrived in 2011, when just 88 studies took place. This trend shall only either 17 18 prevent or hinder the achievement of social and/or political benefits, such as the improvement 19 20 of medical and supportive care, job creation, the organization of health facilities and early 21 access to innovative medicines and research methodologies 1. The reasons for this decrease 22 23 stem from numerous aspects, including the cost and difficulties of attracting volunteers to 24 25 participate in such studies. 26 27 28 The effectiveness of a clinical trial depends on the size of its sample, sample homogeneity, 29 30 the similarity of the results and the differences among the mean values for each group. In this 31 kind of study, it proves very difficult to achieve the minimum participant numbers required to 32 33 obtain the ideal sample size. This situation occurs for various reasons including the study cost, 34 35 the low frequency of certain diseases, uncertainty about the effects of treatment, and among 36 others 2. 37 38 39 40 Considering this framework, certain actions might be implemented in order to reverse this 41 scenario. This book is about the discord between the Catholic and Protestant religions. It centres on the characters of Kevin McCoy, who is Catholic, and Sadie Jackson, who is Protestant and how their friendship develops despite the religious bigotry which affects the country they live in. The Twelfth Day of July is a celebration in Northern Ireland, for Protestants which started in the 18th century celebrating the Glorious Revolution and the victory of Protestant King Billy over Catholic King James II at the Battle of Boyne in 1690. She thinks she has got away with it when she hears a noise behind her; she turns around only to be confronted by Kevin. The smell of the bin made her wretch, but she could not leave it just yet, someone kicked the bin and she felt the vibrations through her body. She felt like she was in there for an eternity. Eventually the voices faded and she left the bin but not the area. • 6. Halloween from Its Beginning to Now Halloween From Its Beginnings to Now Halloween is celebrated almost all around the world. Though the name may differ from region to region, the original customs of halloween can be found everywhere. Day of the Dead , Kawasasqanchis , Dance of the Hooded Egunguns , and Bon Festival are just a few of the many celebrations that, if one were to look at their traditions and when the celebrations were made, would see that they derive from the origin of Halloween. The many celebrations similar to Halloween all share similar themes such as: contact with the spirit world involving the spirits of the dead, fairies, witches, and the devil and evil spirit creatures. How did Halloween become what it is today? Starting in 5th century B.C.E., the Celts celebrated a festival at the end of each October, a time in which they believed ghosts and demons would roam the earth more than other times of the year. The festival was called Samhain (meaning summer s end ). As the days became shorter (in a sense of the amount of time the sun is visible), the celtics thought that they had to reinvigorate the sun. They would do this by putting all fires out, symbolising the dying old year , then have a sacred bonfire to scare away evil spirits. (The tradition of bonfires during holidays stemming from holloween are seen today in Britain on Guy Fawkes Night, and Brazil s June Festivals. Starting in first century C.E., the Romans conquered the Celtics and adopted the spiritistic rituals of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of Binary Oppositions In Heathers Nietzsche wrote that language invents truths that do not have an actual reference to the outside world. One of the primary examples are binary oppositions: two terms that give each other meaning when they are compared. The conflicting terms serve to simplify concepts down to their most basic forms. In literary works, however, the binary oppositions that are presented are often deconstructed. In Heathers, the main drama of the story comes from the ideas of conformity and nonconformity. As the story takes place in a high school ruled by an all powerful clique, students who mold themselves to the Heathers are well liked. Those who do not resemble them whether because they are unpopular or because they try to actively rebel against the norm are deemed outcasts. Veronica s internal conflict stems from her being torn between these two worlds. A part of her wants to follow in the footsteps of the Heathers in order to be just as admired as they are; on the other hand, she does not enjoy being around them, and finds herself gravitating back towards other nonconformists. Beyond just Veronica s struggle, deconstruction is also presented in the character arcs of McNamara, Duke, and J.D. To begin with, Nietzsche believed that all binary oppositions have a single term that is superior. He wrote that, Metaphysical philosophy has hitherto surmounted this difficulty that the one originates in the other and assuming for the more valued thing a miraculous source in the very kernel and ... One example can be Henrietta Lacks cells who were known as the first human immortal cells. They exist to this day, thus having their own legacy. Henrietta Lacks, however, was barely credited for such cells. Which is the reason why she was long forgotten until this book was published. One participant who helped bring up a forgotten legacy is the author of the book, Rebecca Skloot. Nonetheless, I chose to write about Dr. George Gey, whom I think started the process of this legacy. • 9. Imprisoned by My Fear of Reading There it was sitting, on my desk. Everytime I looked down, I would get frightened just by its presence. My face would turn bright red and my dry throat would anxiously swallow so loud that I clearly could hear it sitting at my desk. Remembering the story that I read the night before was almost unattainable for me. Understanding the large vocabulary and heavy wording of each question was nearly impossible for me to understand, similar to communicating with an illiterate foreigner in English. Often, randomly circling answers and guessing would be my last resort to a successful completion of the test, while hoping for a presentable grade. Reading comprehension has always been one my weaknesses ever since the first day I picked up a book. This weakness was not one that I could easily overlook and with each new day, it brought upon a new level of embarrassment as I sat in school envious of my classmates. If I were to describe myself in two words, I would choose the words passionate and determined. However, I did not develop this personality until my last year in elementary school. All throughout elementary school, I struggled in numerous subjects, especially in reading and grammar. In fact, I was one of the weakest students in the class. I was always below my grade s required reading level and while majority of my peers were ahead and always looking for books in higher reading level shelves, I would always be found in the opposite side of the school library where they kept the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be able to achieve that goal, hedge funds employ varied strategies. To understand hedge fund, let s try to understand one of the strategies commonly seen, that is selling short . Let s assume that we have two securities that are related to each other, that is, their price behaves similarly to the market conditions. They move in together over time. Let s assume that at some point in time, they diverge for whatever reason. This divergence is seen as an opportunity to minimize the risks (or may be greediness!) and make big profits irrespective of how the market is performing. The hedge fund would buy security that is selling below its normal range, as it is expected to increase relative to A, and would sell security A short. Short selling (also known as shorting or going short) is the practice of selling assets, usually securities, that have been borrowed from a third party (usually a broker) with the intention of buying identical assets back at a later date to return to the lender. To understand it even better, let s put some numbers and try to phrase it so that anyone can understand the concept. Let s consider Beans and Rice, since they are so closely related, we assume that their price always shows similar trends. Difference between their prices is always a dollar and beans are always less than rice. For example if rice is 5$ a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Idealization of Science in Sinclair Lewis Arrowsmith Sinclair Lewis s 1924 novel Arrowsmith follows a pair of bacteriologists, Martin Arrowsmith and his mentor Max Gottlieb, as they travel through various professions in science and medicine in the early decades of the twentieth century. Through the brilliant researcher Gottlieb and his protégé, Lewis explores the status and role of scientific work at universities, in industry, and at a private research foundation as well as in various medical positions. The picture he presents is one of tension and conflict between the goals and ideals of pure science and the environments in which his protagonists have to operate. Although Gottlieb and Arrowsmith are able to pursue their research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each of these debates is visible in Arrowsmith. However, as one might expect of a novel, Lewis s description of the tensions exaggerates them. Though scientists did face some difficulties in pursuing their research in industry and academia, they were almost universally able to accept compromise and work out satisfactory arrangements. Many even embraced the various ideals and goals that Lewis sets in opposition to pure science. Very few if any scientists found it necessary to flee to the woods in order to pursue their research, as Arrowsmith does. The early chapters of Arrowsmith are set in the first decade of the twentieth century and explore the fictional University of Winnemac, where Arrowsmith is first an undergraduate and then attends the medical school in which Gottlieb works. Overall, the atmosphere at the university is relatively hostile to the scientific research which Gottlieb and Arrowsmith pursue. Gottlieb is generally dismissed as an old laboratory plug, a crapehanger who wasted time destroying the theories of others instead of making new ones of his own. 2 He is forced to waste his time teaching elementary bacteriology to Dummköpfe,3 while Arrowsmith is forced to waste his time taking classes unrelated to the research he wants to do. Just getting my work shown in New Mexico will keep me busy for a while and until I graduate I do not have the time to find out. My method of editing is very light, I try not to crop, this is why I take 30 to 40 photographs on one subject matter and I keep the original raw photograph in a file. I have to edit my photographs in Photoshop because I take my photographs in color, just for that reason, some people like color better, I have to add contrast to achieve the depth in my black and white photographs. Hedge Funds And Hedge Fund Hedge Funds are actively managed instruments with flexible mandates that allow fund managers to invest opportunistically in long and short positions across all asset classes. This type of investment vehicle has existed for over half a century. The first hedge fund was created by Alfred Winslow Jones in 1949. His strategy, while simple, had never been used in the asset management world. His idea was to buy stocks which seemed undervalued and short those which presented the worst outlook. This strategy allowed him to protect himself against a fall in the equity markets. He later started using leverage in order to improve his returns by taking additional risk. Even though his hedge fund outperformed long only asset managers for many years, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ii) Equity Hedge Funds: a) What are the different subcategories? We are mostly interested by the classic equity hedge funds, also known as long short funds, and more specifically we would like to know how they differ from long only funds in terms of performance and risk. As we have mentioned above, this is the oldest hedge fund investment style but it comes in many different forms: quantitative or fundamental, broadly diversified or highly concentrated, market neutral or directional. Furthermore, some strategies use more leverage and focus on individual market sectors or factors. In their paper, Hedge Funds with style , Brown and Goetzmann (2001) have described the most popular strategies used by hedge funds and furthermore they have tried explaining the impact of the different styles on performance. They looked at the performance of each strategy, from 1989 to 2000, and learned that the choice of style impacts returns circa 20 percent of the time. This would in turn have an effect on the risk return trade off, stressing how crucial the fund s style and management are. They have used statistical models (regressions and ANOVA tables) to analyze the variability between the performances of seventeen fund strategies. The results revealed that eight of those styles had high R² and adjusted R², meaning that changes in the style explained most of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Analysis Of Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening, By... Robert Frost is a great American poet that mastered the art of eloquently imprinting his readers with an overarching idea, or theme, through his use of symbolic language, precise picture painting, and metronome rhyme and meter. Frost addresses many different themes across his poems, but sometimes has similar methods of displaying his themes; three of the most prominent are the crossroads of a decision in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, the battle between desire and hate in Fire and Ice, and the loss of innocence in Nothing Gold Can Stay. Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening is all about the internal debates that occur when making a decision. The poem is designed to unsettle certitude as Guy Rotella, a literary critic, put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The connection between Earth and a relationship is a little more subtle since he does not outright say it, but due to fire and ice being connected to emotions that come from the world of a relationship the reader can assume their connection to the world in the poem. Fire and Ice also draws on Frost s tendency to unsettle certitude since, as Guy Rotella put it, he concludes with a point that ends up reopening what he had already closed earlier in the poem (253). Frost once again never makes a decision in this poem, he just uses the metaphor to debate with himself on why either desire or hate could be the one to destroy a relationship. Similarly to Fire and Ice, Robert Frost also uses an extended metaphor to show the theme in Nothing Gold Can Stay. Frost tells the story of how the most beautiful part of Spring only lasts a short time in couplets of iambic trimeter, and it is not until line six until the true meaning of this poem is exposed, So Eden sank to grief (Frost). This is alluding to the Garden of Eden story from the Bible when mankind was banished from the garden; which also reveals the reasoning for personifying Spring earlier in the poem by saying gold was Her Hardest hue to hold (Frost, 2). Frost wants the reader to connect mankind s falling from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Character recognition provides a reliable alternative of converting manual text into digitized format. Now a days, as technology becomes integral part of human life, many applications have enabled the incorporation of English OCR for real time inputs. The advantages that the English alphabet has is its simplicity offered by less number of letters i.e. 26 and easier classification due to the concept of lowercase and uppercase. If we consider Devnagari script in this scenario, we will come across myriad hurdles because this script lacks the simplicity of English. The concept of fused letters, modifiers, shirorekha and spitting similarities in some letters make recognition difficult. Also, character recognition for handwritten text is far more complex than that for machine printed characters. This is because of the versatility and different writing techniques adopted by people. The direction of strokes, pressure applied on writing equipments, quality of writing equipment and the mentality of the writer itself highly affects the written text. These problems when combined with the intricate details of Devnagari script, the complications in constructing a HCR of this script are increased. This STAT6 pathway deals with calcium activated chloride channel one which is also known as CLCA1 and is the gene related to the airway epithelial cells. In asthma, however, this channel doesn t function as it normal function which is an ion channel but goes through secretion and cleavage. This channel can induce MUC5AC through MAP kinase MAPk13. The inflammation aspect of asthma occurs from a cascade of events usually is a type 2 inflammation dealing with types of CD4+ T cells like Th2 cells. This pathway deals with a lot of mediators that cause inflammation, IgE, mucosal surfaces, smooth muscles, and mast cells. When the IgE is created in the body, it is circulated through the bloodstream. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Internet gambling is easy to get hooked on. There are advertisements for casinos at almost all of the major search engines and home pages (ex: yahoo, metacrawler, excite etc.) Many of these advertisements claim that they have free gambling or give away free money. For example one casino will give you $125.00 for a $50.00 deposit. Do you think they would really give you that money if they weren t confident that you would get hooked and spend it all there or if they thought that they wouldn t get it all back? Once they have lured you to their websites it is easy for them to get your money. It seems a lot easier to spend virtual casino tokens purchased with a credit card than it is to spend your actual hard earned cash at a real casino. Another obvious problem with having online casinos is that children have easy access to them. There is no way to check ID. Anyone with a credit card number can play. Parents of children who gamble online are legally responsible for the debt that their children accumulate. It is especially easy if the parents have already been to that particular casino and set up an account. All the child would need is a password and many computer operating systems have the option of saving passwords and filling them in for the user. Young people are especially vulnerable to Internet gambling. In virtually all studies of the rates of gambling problems at various ages, high school and college aged individuals show the highest problem rates, said ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Innovation Management If you ever become a marketer, then your friend in the company should be the accountant These were the words of advise given to me by my Marketing professor at Red McCombs School of Business in University of Texas, Austin. I recall this statement every time I think of costs involved in new product development or in every marketing endeavor I undertake. The above words also applies to all persons leading an Innovation projects: Be it new product development, process improvement or research. In the world of innovation, accountants their contribution are one of the least appreciated. When developing a plan for an innovation project, it is best to sit with an accountant and comeup with a financial plan. Gather the financial information that determines the viability of the project, at what levels of expenditure the projects become unviable, develop a plan to monitor the project expenses and constantly review the viability of the project. To do all this, you have to work with the accountant as a partner in progress. Also remember this: Money speaks louder than ideas! So if your idea is backed by the accountant, then people will listen to you. Track all your Costs Once a project is approved, then managers need to keep a close tab on the costs of the project. But that s in an ideal world. Reality in most organizations is that product/development managers have little clue of what their current costs are, what their total costs is, and how much more money will they need to complete the project. I have spoken to several development managers in several fortune 500 companies, and they don t know their numbers, instead they will talk about the time frame of the project, head count etc., but not the numbers because they do not know the numbers and nobody in the organization will ever tell them. Smaller companies tend to do better. Managers in smaller companies know the costs and therefore can take better and faster decisions. Understanding all the costs is a ... • 34. Words As Sweet As Honey From Sakhambi Short Story The story Words as Sweet as Honey From Sankhambi is a story being retold by a children s book specialist Linda Rode. Sankhambi plays a big part in many Venda folktales and is very alike to Hlakanyana from Zulu Folklore. He takes on many different shapes and sizes in these tales but one thing for certain is wherever he is there is always trouble. This story is about how monkeys became tall, slender, quick, and nimble from being short, and fat. Back in the early days the monkeys were fat, little, pot bellied animals that moved rather slowly. They were not nearly as nimble or quick as they are today, and there body shape was much different. Sankhambi had a lot of fun sneaking up behind the monkeys and pulling their tails. Obviously the monkeys were not too happy about this and would throw seeds and bits at him from high in the tree tops while he lay there basking in the sun. Sankhambi hated the monkey business and one day he decided that he was going to put a stop to it. He approached the monkeys and said in his sweetest voice that he wanted to tell his dear monkey friends a big secret. The eldest monkey called out to the other monkeys not to listen to him, because it was just another one of his wicked tricks. Sankhambi begged and pleaded the monkeys to listen to him for this very special event. Monkeys are naturally curious animals so they slowly began to climb down the tree to listen to Sankhambi. Sankhambi with his voice sweet as honey told them that he would like to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Indentured Servants Dbq Essay With the end of slavery came the rise of indentured servants in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. When slaves were freed, they were no longer willing to put in the hours they were previously forced to work. The colonies depended on plantations and also needed a new source of labor. This led to mistreatment of indentured laborers. Most British people needed to turn to indentured servitude in order to make money from their plantations. With each year, more and more indentured servants would be needed to work (Document 2). Evidently, Document 2 has bias because a British colonial governor who was most likely wealthy due to his servants labor writes it. In the eyes of the British, though they felt as if the servants were completely different from slaves (Document 1). A British undersecretary of the colonies wrote the document, so obviously he says indentured servants and slaves were treated way differently because that s how the British colonies made their money, and because he is not a laborer. The British even provided conditions a recruiter has to offer to the indentured servants (Doc 7). This document doesn t show how the indentured servants were actually treated in reality due to the fact that the British for the British Guiana Indenture Agreement wrote this. Even though the British Indenture Agreement promised certain conditions the deals weren t always upheld (Doc 8). An indentured laborer, Romana, who could have provided concrete evidence of what actually occurred during the laboring, wrote document 8. In support of Document 8 s claims were the images in Document 5 and 6. The second photograph shows the indentured servants working tirelessly in the fields, with a man overseeing their work a European supervisor. • 36. The Importance Of Abortion In The United States Should abortion be legal in the United States? This question has been a huge argument for quite some time now. Everyone has their own opinion, I am without a doubt prolife. Abortion should be illegal for thousands of reason. Some reasons that make me so passionate that abortion should be illegal is the fact that abortion is murder, it s making human life disposable, there are other options instead of abortion like adoption, abortion can cause serious medical problems in a women, and there are many women looking to adopt children. If murder is illegal why isn t abortion, abortion is just another form of murder. It s making human life disposable by giving women the chance to get rid of a problem they do not want to deal with. No one would kill a one year old child because they didn t feel like dealing with them anymore so why should abortion be allowed? Every person should be giving the chance of life, abortion is taking away the chance of someone being able to live a full life. • 37. The Drunk Bus Should Be Kept Around Essay The Drunk Bus Should Be Kept Around I remember hearing stories of such a thing called the drunk bus before I came to college, but I was not exactly sure what it was. I just figured the bus took a bunch of drunken college students to the bars when they wanted to go. Now that I am a first year student at State U, I understand I was not that far from the truth. Some say the bus should be taken away, but the fact of the matter is the bus is a necessity at college since there will always be drinking. This way, when all of the students are done drinking at school and want to go to the bars, they are not putting themselves or any other members of the community in danger by drinking and driving. Safety is always a factor Of course, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am also positive if there were to be a terrible wreck caused by an intoxicated student, the entire community would all agree that the drunk bus is a wise choice to keep in commission. If the drunk bus were to go out of commission, then I am certain the amount of accidents would rise dramatically. Sober students ride the bus as well Not every person who gets on the bus is intoxicated. I have talked with many of my friends and they tell me that they hardly ever are intoxicated when they go on the bus, but the just want to have a good time and dance at the club. If students ask the bus driver, he will also make stops to local grocery stores such as Wal Mart and Hy Vee. I know many students that go on the bus just hang out at the bar to have fun, without drinking. Therefore, this shows how the bus has more than one use of just transporting drunken students. Students will always drink I read a very interesting book called Behind the Arch: The Truth about Drinking at Buena Vista University. This book explained how the Storm Lake, IA community feels that having the drunk Bus around only encourages students to drink. I think the community needs to realize if there were no bus to transport intoxicated students to and from the bars, the students only option would be to drive intoxicated, which should never happen. Eighty five percent (or 334) of the 395 students who completed the online survey indicated they drank (14). It is common knowledge there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Poverty And The Inner City Poverty has been a consistent problem throughout the history of the world. Despite the wealth of a country, there will always be people who are homeless and hungry. Poverty carries many different definitions, but one that truly encompasses all of its effects is, the unfulfillment of basic human need required to adequately sustain life free from disease, misery, hunger, pain, suffering, hopelessness, and fear (Julio, 76). Even though the United is one of the most prosperous countries in the world, it is not immune to poverty. In 2014, 46.7 million people (15%) were in poverty in the United States. This is no small issue, and one that we as Christians are called to combat. In the United States poverty is a national problem, however, it is most prevalent in the inner cities. The inner city is defined as, A general term for impoverished areas of large cities. The inner city is characterized by minimal educational opportunities, high unemployment and crime rates, broken families, and inadequate housing (Dictionary.com). Although, according to the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC), absolute poverty is higher in the suburbs than in the inner cities, affecting 11 million people compared to 8 million people in the inner cities, poverty is still concentrated in the inner cities and is more prevalent there. The inner cities comprise less than 1% of land area versus the suburbs which comprise 17% of total land area nearly 100x that of inner cities. Overall, 3 in 10 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
