1. Essays On Overpopulation
Composing an essay on the subject of overpopulation poses a unique set of challenges,
demanding a delicate balance between presenting factual information, addressing ethical
concerns, and proposing viable solutions. Tackling such a complex and multifaceted topic
requires a comprehensive understanding of demographic trends, environmental impacts, social
dynamics, and economic implications.
One of the primary challenges lies in navigating through a sea of statistical data and scholarly
research to extract relevant and reliable information. Overpopulation is a subject that intertwines
with various disciplines, including sociology, economics, environmental science, and public
health. Integrating these diverse perspectives into a cohesive narrative demands a meticulous
approach to research and synthesis.
Furthermore, crafting an essay on overpopulation requires a careful consideration of ethical
dimensions. Addressing the consequences of rapid population growth involves discussing issues
such as resource depletion, environmental degradation, and the impact on vulnerable
communities. Striking a balance between raising awareness about the challenges and avoiding a
pessimistic tone is a delicate task that necessitates thoughtful language and sensitivity.
Moreover, proposing feasible solutions to mitigate the effects of overpopulation adds another
layer of complexity. The essay must delve into policy recommendations, technological
advancements, and behavioral changes, all while acknowledging the cultural and societal
nuances that influence the adoption of such measures.
Attempting to provide a nuanced and well-rounded perspective on overpopulation also involves
grappling with differing viewpoints and controversies surrounding the topic. Balancing various
opinions, addressing counterarguments, and presenting a well-reasoned stance requires a
thorough understanding of the subject matter and the ability to critically evaluate contrasting
perspectives.
In conclusion, writing an essay on overpopulation demands a high level of research, sensitivity,
and critical thinking. Successfully navigating through the intricate web of information, ethical
considerations, and potential solutions is a formidable task that requires a well-honed set of
academic skills. As students tackle this complex assignment, they may find it beneficial to seek
additional assistance or resources to enhance their understanding of the topic and refine their

3. The Importance Of International Cooperation
Interstate bargaining and cooperation characterize international relations. Only
cooperation allows states to mutually gain, but collaboration costs encourage states to
betray others to maximize utility. International institutions mitigate these costs,
transform zero sum interactions into positive sum interactions, and aid interstate
cooperation. International economic institutions facilitate interstate cooperation by
establishing rules for trade, reducing costs of international transactions, and providing
dispute settlement mechanisms; however, a lack of independent enforcement
capacity weakens these institutions.
Institutions encourage cooperation by creating interstate trade rules. Without a world
government, states must self enforce international agreements and punish others who
violate them. Yet, states cannot enforce agreements or punish violators if they cannot
agree on what constitutes a violation. Such ambiguity fosters conflict. Trade rules
eliminate this ambiguity because they measure whether nations violated trade
agreements. By identifying violations, trade rules thus prevent states from
reciprocating punishment for misperceived transgressions (Frieden, Lake, and
Schultz 2016). The World Trade Organization(WTO) provides such rules. Striving to
promote market liberalization, the WTO requires members to implement non
discriminatory measures like Most Favored Nation (MFN) and national treatment.
MFN obliges members to give equal market access to all other members
4. Essay on Analysis of The Metamorphosis
Analysis of The Metamorphosis
This story The Metamorphosis is about Gregor, a workaholic, who is changed into
an insect and must then deal with his present reality. The hardest part of being an
insect for him was the alienation from his family, which eventually leads to his death.
In reading the short story The Metamorphosis, (1971),one can realize how small the
difference is between Magical Realism and Fantastic. This literature written by the
Austrian, Franz Kafka, is often debated over.
The magical elements in this story are obvious like they should be in fantastic
literature. It is not often that humans are turned into insects. Another magical element
that is not as clear is the unconditional love that Gregor had for his ... Show more

After someone accepts what he or she have become, that someone and his or her
family must deal with it. The rest of the story depicts one s life after this turning point.
Like in all fantastic literature, the relationship between the magical element and the
rest of the world causes a huge problem. The world as the characters know it does a
180 degree turn around that Rabkin mentions. The family was completely
dependent on Gregor before the metamorphosis. Now Mr. Samsa has a job as a
bank guard, Mrs. Samsa sews underwear, and Grete is a saleslady, and the family has
nothing to do with Gregor. They turned on him when he needed them. This feeling of
worthlessness kills him.
Kafka uses defamiliarization in his fantastic story even though it is a characteristic of
magical realism. Magic Realists use defamiliarization to radically emphasize
common elements of reality (Simpkins 150). Kafka uses defamiliarization through
telling the story of Gregor. Gregor, a workaholic, who always tries to do what is
best for his family makes himself miserable in a job that he hates. He always puts
others first. This approach eventually leads to his loneliness when his family finds out
what he has become due to his job. Everyone in this story goes through his or her own
metamorphosis. Through defamiliarization, Kafka examines life,
5. Essay on Leonardo da Vinci s The Last Supper
Leonardo s Last Supper is a priceless piece of art with much hidden meaning and
obvious talents bestowed upon a wall. Under the study of Verrocchio as a painter
and a sculptor, he was able to use his skills in creating a very detailed and a very
naturalistic piece of work that would be remembered for hundreds of years. He was
also able to create characters with amazing individuality. Not only was his portrayal
of the characters magnificent, but the symbolism he used which emphasized the story
being told in the Last Supper .

Although, the way Leonardo allows its viewers to depict the scene from a specific
point in the Bible adds to the importance and significance of the painting in which
no other artist could even compare. He does allow the viewer to recognize this
scene by the gestures of both the Lord and the Apostles. The Lord sits ever so
quietly while the Apostles rise in reaction to what the Lord had just announced. It is
rather obvious that Leonardo chose the critical moment after the Lord had stated,
Verily I say unto you that one of you shall betray me, because of the emotions that
evolve in this specific scene (Matt. 26.21).
He took much time to express every detail of each Apostle and the Lord. Leonardo
had even wrote in one of his notebooks that A good painterhas two chief objects to
paint man and the intention of his soul. The former is easy, the latter hard because
he has to represent it by the attitude and movement of the limbs (Heydenreich, 27).
For example, the Lord is very relaxed with his arms resting on the table which adds
to the portrayal of His greatness. He also emphasized the Lord s greatness by giving
Him a serious attitude and by presenting Him as untouchable with the space between
Himself and the Apostles.
The distance put between them is called the spacial perspective, which is one of the
techniques Leonardo feels is important in naturalistic art. Although, the

Ethernet cables are generally used to connect devices on LANs including routers and
switches. Theoritically, ethernet cables can support 100 Mbs or 1000 Mbps
maximum bandwidith. This maximum can not be achieved due to overhead
hardware and computer operating system. Ethernet cables usually support one or
more industry standards including Category 5 (CAT 5) and Category 6 (CAT 6).
In this network, CAT 5 ethernet cables are used. CAT 5 ethernet cables are a fifth

8. Tropidoderus Kids Essay
Tropidoderus childrenii, more commonly known as Children s stick insect belongs in
Kingdom Animalia. As a member of Animalia, this specie is multicellular eukaryote
like other members of the kingdom. It reproduces sexually between male and female,
creating unique individuals, and it is a heterotroph that relies on plants for its survival.
Children s stick insect can be classified farther into Class Insecta in Phylum
Arthropod. Like the other species of insects, children s stick insect also has the
characteristics that all insects of Arthropoda share. First, it has something called
exoskeleton which is external skeleton that helps arthropods to protect from
hazards as well as helping them to support themselves. Second, arthropods have
bodies divided into segments, but insects can be distinguished from other
arthropods because they have bodies divided into 3 major regions: the head with
antennae, thorax, and abdomen. Third, arthropods have jointed legs which are
flexible and soft, allowing them to move even with rigid and hard bodies. This
allows Tropidoderus childrenii to crawl with its 6 legs, as well as using their wings
to fly. Last, arthropods have open circulatory system, which is different from closed
circulatory system found in humans. In open circulatory system, blood flows freely

reproduce asexually through a process, parthenogenesis, which does not require male
fertilization, this results all the offspring of asexual reproduction to be female.
Therefore, females are more common than males in this order. In addition,
Tropidoderus childrenii can reproduce all around the year due to the constant warm

The topic of in Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) has become one of the most controversial
treatments assisting infertile couples. This question was formulated from the
research found regarding the biological, financial and ethical factors clearly
highlighted in the articles Ovarian Cancers caused by IVF (Natural News) and In
Vitro FertilisationToday (American Express). The research indicates that IVF has
become much more common and it is important to understand if the beneficial
factors prevail over the problems linked with IVF. This report is written to argue
that IVF is not a justifiable method in assisting infertile couples. Dictionary.com
defines a biological issue as anything that changes any natural process. This report
will investigate specific biological issues that are linked with this treatment
including, the hormonal effects on females, risk to the child and success rate of
IVF. Social issues are moral problems that affect a member or members of a society
directly or indirectly. IVF is associated with many social issues, the most prominent
one being funding priorities. Another issue that is considered the most fundamental
philosophical issue raised by IVF is the moral status of the embryo, which will be
discussed in this report.

the removal of the female eggs from a woman s ovaries merged with a male s sperm

10. Akhenaten essay
Akhenaten is often not credited as being one of the great pharaoh s of ancient Egypt;
his name is not as recognized as his son, Tutankhamen. However he deserves
acknowledged for being a revolutionary leader. Akhenaten is most well known as
being a spiritual enthusiast and instigator of revolution within the kingdom of Egypt.
Many historians have recognized Akhenatenwith being solely responsible for
developing a religious revolution in Egypt. Nevertheless his struggles defined as the
first true effort at instituting a monotheistic state in a polytheistic society, his efforts
were not eternal. The reasoning behind his decisions to change Egypt s faith is still

At the same time, Akhenaten was not too fundamental in his views and he chose the
Aten as the dominant and the only god of ancient Egypt.
In addition, it was an effort to institute a monotheistic tradition in the country that was
quite unfamiliar for that era and unexpected for that level of the expansion of ancient
Egyptian philosophy and evolution. In fact, religion was extremely important to
ancient Egyptian society because people at the era deeply trusted on the natural
forces and they created different cults worshiping gods of the sun, earth, and water. In
such a way, they believed that through reverencing these gods they could merit their
provision and, therefore, ancient Egyptians totaled for higher harvests, revenue and
improved existence which they could achieve only with the support of various
deities. Moreover, it is obvious the amount to which the attempt of Akhenaten to
introduce monotheism in ancient Egypt was radical. It is obvious that the honoring
of one god, Aten, should change the opinion of the surrounding world and the
position of gods in the life of ancient Egyptian people.

effective Pharaoh. Accounts seem to direct that Akhenaten permitted Egyptian

17. The Fusion Of Spinal Fusion
Spinal fusion is categorized into three different categories: cervical, thoracic, and
lumbar, in conjunction with the different segments of the spine. Each type of spinal
fusion has a different goal depending on the purpose of the surgery. Most surgeries
involve fusing vertebrae together to limit its range of motion, thereby hopefully
reducing the pain or correcting any physical deformities. Depending on the levels of
fusion, spinal fusion surgeries tend to last a few hours. Complications may arise
during surgery, and they greatly increase depending the location of the fusion,
levels of fusion, and if the surgery crosses any important nerve sites. Levels of
spinal fusion are known as the fusion between two different vertebrae. If there is a
fusion between L1 and L2, that is known as one level of fusion. If there is another
site of fusion at L3 and L4, than there will be two levels of spinal fusion. Lumbar
fusion are further complicated when more then one level of performed. By limiting
one segment s range of motion, other segments of the spine will have to compensate
and create greater range of motion. With lumbar fusion, most doctors will need to be
able to identify why a patient needs lumbar fusion, and being able to identify if
lumbar fusion will help alleviate the pain. Most cases of lumbar fusion involve
spondylolisthesis, fractures, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, and possibly herniated disk if
no other further treatment has proven successful. Most physicians will order an

an actual yield of how much product will be obtained in the end. Therefore, it is not

ESRI: Changing world.
Case Synopsis
Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) is a privately held, debt free,
company that is a global leader in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software
used for visualization and analysis of geographic data by institutional users across the
globe. ESRI has pioneered this technology for four decades as it pursued its founder
leader Jack Dangermond s mission to change the world by making it spatially
enabled. Since 2000, the world has changed. The new Internet companies have put
electronic maps with live data and interactivity on the internet enabled desktops of ...

By the end of 2006, many additional interactive features were available on these
electronic maps. For example, in addition to getting directions from one point to
another, one could also look up real time traffic along the route, in addition to
locating a hotel on a map, one could also locate the nearby businesses and tourist
attractions. Related technologies started to appear in mobile devices from cell
phone to automobiles. Cars could be equipped with devices that linked to the
satellite Global Positioning System that could provide driving directions as well as
local information as one drove through an area, and cell phones could be tracked to
their exact locations.
Jack s vision of a geographically enabled world was coming true, except that it was
happening with technologies and companies that were unrelated to ESRI or even
GIS. Many of these companies and technologies were not around in 1969, when
Jack and Laura first started ESRI. Will this visionary pioneer of geographic
information systems be a pioneer in this geographically enabled world that they
have championed for four decades? What role will ESRI and GIS play in this new
era? What resources and capabilities does ESRI have and how should it deploy them
in order to create its position in this changing world? Will it continue to be the
number one player in the market? How, if at all, should ESRI be responding to the
new technologies and companies that are redefining the market? What are the
22. Puritans Values
When the first wave of European immigrants faced the hardships of the voyage across
the tumultuous Atlantic Ocean, these English Puritans had hopes of a future free
from the harsh persecutions and injustices they were subjected to in 17th century
England. Puritans values were documented in the writings of such immigrants such
as A Model of Christian Charity , written by John Winthrop while aboard the Arabella
in 1630, and The MayflowerCompact , a constitution like document drafted and
signed by the men on board The Mayflower in 1620. In the former, Winthrop
emphasized the significance of maintaining unity under God and sharing in the
struggles of one another so that the burdens and hardships of one are those of the
community as well as the Puritans arrived in the New World. Similarly, The
Mayflower Compact encouraged unity and equality through the formation of a civil
political body to enact governing laws and constitutions that would uphold their
societal and religious values to promote equality and justice for all. Despite such
principles that the Pilgrims believed they were instating during the formation of the
New World, I believe these values were quickly distorted, leading to a biased and
prejudiced society that prevails today. Through the analysis of the history of early
America, it is evident to me that though the Puritans left England as the persecuted
and claimed to aspire to a just society, they arrived in the New World as persecutors
of those whose beliefs
23. Martin Scorsese s Film The Departed
When many of us think mobster movies , we typically expect the film industry to
portray a dark and murky world full of money, drugs, deceit and murder. Martin
Scorsese s film, The Departed delivers just that. The following will summarize key
aspects of the plot and identify specifics of the period that it is conveying. Also, we
will look at cultural features of the era and see how they interplay with elements of
the film. Finally, we will address the impact that this film had on American popular
culture.
SUMMARY
The Departed is an iconic modern mobster movie that was delivered to us by
Martin Scorsese in 2006. There are two main characters that we follow and both

For example, Matt Damon s character, Sullivan is in direct contrast when compared
to Costigan, played by Leonardo Di Vinci. While Sullivan comes off as a clean cut
and smooth operating, this gimmick conceals his true colors as a rat for Costello.
While he maintains his good cop image, he utilizes his rank and position to aid
Costello and eventually to try to conceal his participation. On the other hand,
Costigan has the rough natured looks of a guy who has spent most his time in
Boston involved in some sort of criminal activity. Like Sullivan, Costigan utilizes
his disguise to get what he ultimately wants; to be a respected member of the
Massachusetts State Police. Frank Costello, played by Jack Nicholson is a unique
character all in his own. It does not take long for the viewer to realize that Costello
has spun such a deceptive web of lies and spies that it could be his own downfall.
Nicholson s portrayal of Costello gives you the impression of an Irish mob boss,
with a sadistically present sense of humor and the desire to maintain his state of

The TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller uses marketing mix techniques to successfully
make the product profitable for TriggerPoint the company. The product is a foam
roller to help with preventative care for people that are active with healthy life styles
or need to improve their mobility. This product is unfamiliar to me because I recently
had back and knee issues, which I started looking into trigger point exercises to help
with mobility. The company TriggerPoint has several products that help with care
prevention, including: Massage products, foot rollers, instructional books on trigger

sell. The TriggerPoint company uses their commercials to inform, educate, and
advertise their product to aim toward people that care about their health or need to
improve their health. TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller uses many different marketing
mixes such as segmenting, targeting, positioning, place, price, and does not even

with a product they need. Many people have become more active during this time on

25. The Network Of Polymeric Structure
The cytoskeleton, network of polymeric structure is a highly dynamic framework
comprised of microtubules polymerized from О± and ОІ tubulin subunits and
microfilaments (AFs) polymerized from G actin and related proteins. Numerous
studies have shown the presence of cross bridges between cortical microtubules and
the PM, so they maintain a link and this linkage can extend to the cell wall (Akashi
et al., 1990; Akashi and Shibaoka, 1991; Shibaoka, 1994; Sonobe and Takahashi,
1994). Plant cytoskeletonmaintains proximity with the plasma membrane that
provides an important platform for signal perception and transduction (Gilroy and
Trewavas, 2001; Wasteneys and Galway, 2003). Above described proximity concept
suggests this framework as a downstream targets of various signalling pathways. The
bond arises between plasma membrane and cytoskeleton through a hydrophobic
domain which present on the tubulin molecule or indirectly through interaction with
an integral membrane protein(Sonesson et al., 1997). Phospholipase D (PLD) is a
plasma membrane protein which has been characterized and confirmed for having the
ability to make connection between cortical microtubules and the plasma membrane
(Gardiner et al., 2001; Dhonukshe et al., 2003; Drobak et al., 2004; Hong et al.,
2008). Therefore PLD has been suggested to function as a structural and signalling
link between the plasma membrane and the cytoskeleton in Arabidopsis in tobacco
(Gardiner et al., 2003). Cytoskeletal reorganization
26. Orchid s Methods of Deception Essay example
Deceit in orchids have proved advantageous in floral and species diversification. The
article, Orchid diversity; an evolutionary consequence of deception? was written by
Salvatore Cozzollino and Alex Widmer. In this article they discuss two types of
deceptions in orchids: food deception and sexual deception. These methods of
deception, which are used for pollination, have proved successful where there are
pollinator limitations. However, where there are successes there are also
consequences. Some factors that orchid deception effects are: mating systems, the
evolutionof reproductive isolation, and the evolution of speciation. To understand
these consequences is to better understand how these deceptive orchids have become
successful.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This genetic flow can help maximize outcrossing rates and genetic diversity, which
translates into larger population sizes in deceptive orchids. While reproductive
isolation benefits from outcrossing, it more specifically benefits from orchids
pollinator specificity. Around 60 70% of orchids have just a one pollinator
species. This specificity is the main prezygotic reproductive isolation mechanism
for the orchids. However, this high specificity in deceptive orchids can be unclear.
It depends more on the pollinator specificity of the most deceptive orchids the
food deceptive orchids. Food deceptive orchids that are sympatric often share
pollinators. This can lead to species barriers to be broken and hybridization, which
subsequently, leads to low fertility and fitness in hybridized deceptive orchids. The
low fitness of these orchids that share (no specific pollinator) or have a weak
pollinator specificity indicates a late postzygotic reproductive isolation rather than a
prezygotic. This is due to species sharing pollinator specificity causing a greater
divergence in karyotypes than those who are pollinated by specific pollinators. In
regards to speciation in deceptive orchids, pollinators have an undeniable
connection¬. A specific example would be in the sexually deceptive Mediterranean
Ophrys species. In these orchids, since there are slight differences in its active floral
odor compounds, they are able to attract

Water Transportation in the Jacksonian Era Water travel assisted heavily with
transportation of goods and people from the American north east to the west, which
would eventually create a separation from the south.
Before any canals were even built, there was a great demand for better transportation
to and from the west. During this time of exploration, something was necessary in
order for settlement to progress. After the canals were built, people living in to north
grew exceedingly wealthy from the trading benefits of the canals. This wealth would
eventually create economic differences with the southern United States(Drago 178).

In fact there was such a profit from the Erie Canal in NYC that tolls were repealed
during 1883(Erie). The canal cut traveling rates from Buffalo, New York, and New

as well as gave exploration and travel a helping hand.
Secondly, the C O canal had many different developments in the period following it s
completion. However these developments were not nearly as good. The contractors,
and engineers proved that they could not correctly build the canal, as they did not
finish in the predicted time(Bourne). The C O canal was not a financial success, and
there were no economically enriched areas as there were with the Erie Canal. By the
late 1870s, the canal had passed it s peak of prosperity, and by 1881, it could not be

economic effects.
Culture in the C O are was heavily enriched by boatmen and other workers on the
canal route. These boatmen could tell people many things about what was going on
in other parts of the state, assisting with communication of these people. However
there was a downside to these effects, as many minorities were badly hurt by the
construction. The Iroquois Indian Tribe was nearly destroyed by the Erie canal, and

Final Research Paper
Clara Barton
Clara Barton is not only an example of women/ Americans at their finest, but she
also can and should be revered as a national hero. Clara Barton answered the call to
duty in a time when women weren t necessarily valued not only socially but as assets
of contribution. Clara Barton took up the call by helping save thousands of lives
through nursing and providing supplies during the Civil War while also introducing
one of America s first responding organizations, the American Red Cross. Clara
Barton was a servant to this country and to mankind, something our world is
shorthanded of currently and what others can aspire to be.
Clara Barton s life began in 1821 on Christmas Day in Oxford, Massachusetts. She
had five siblings and her parents were Stephen and Sarah Barton. Clara was the
youngest child and was described as a shy girl. While her mother has not been
described well, only for having a temper, her father was described as a possible
motivator for Clara s endeavors. Her father had been a captain during the Indian
wars and was described as having a heart for the needy, a person of prominence and
and viewed as a leader within the community (Bio.com). He is also said to have
been a great businessman. As far as her other siblings, she two sisters and two
brothers, all of which followed in their parents footsteps.
Clara Barton was known for having a servant s heart and being educated, something

30. Feudalism In Romantic Poetry
A dictum from Heraclitus may illustrate the origin of romantic poetry, when we are
awake we have a world in common, but when we are asleep each has his own world
(Quoted by O Connell 35). As conceived from the innermost being, romantic poems
have a close relationship with dream. However, as the definitions and characteristics
are controversial, some critics oppose to use the term Romanticism . For instance,
Arthur Lovejoy criticizes that Romanticism is an obscure norm when defined by
associating the nature and emotion as even Plato can be regarded as a pioneer in
romantic poetryaccording to this definition (Lovejoy 230). However, romantic poetry
cannot be defined with a linguistic entitle without considering the historical process
(Wellek 2) for it appeared in a specific period after the revolution in France and the
Enlightenment, when the awareness of rationalism started to spreed. Romantic
poetry is a genre which is used by poets to transcend... Show more content on

As the revolution in France altered the thoughts of poets, they initiated to use poems
to resist the unequal society. For example, leaves with cold tone are depicted in the
poem Ode to the West Wind as a representation for feudalism, which has been dying
(Shelley Stanza.2), decaying (Stanza.2), and quivering (Stanza.3), while the fierce
wind accompanying with rain awakens the Mediterranean and will drive the leaves
away, implying the awareness of liberty has formed and revolutions are generating.
In the end of this poem, Shelly proposes a prophesy that the tyranny of feudalism
society will be replaced, arousing enthusiasm within the people. In this poem,
substances in the nature are applied to be symbols in order to attack the feudalism
and praise the willing for liberty. Thus, symbolism is applied in romantic poems to
analyze the humanity and scorn the

32. Metaphor In The Metaphor
This literature review will outline the range of previous research on the use of
metaphor in non literary texts, specifically in political speeches. Commentary on the
use of metaphor has a long history dating back to Ancient Greece, with Aristotle in his
work Poetics (350 BC). It is considered the metaphor as indicative of genius and an
instrument of charm and ornamentation. However, he considered this instrument of
ornamentation as being suitable for poetry and prose, but being too obscure to be
used for argumentation. (Poetics, 1954).
More recently, the volume of research into metaphor has been done considerably,
with conferences on this specific topic. Besides, such research also expands a wide

They underlie our conceptual system and therefore have a great influence on
thought. Since most conceptual metaphors are unconsciously perceived, their power
is all the more important. (Deignan 2005: 15). For example, one does not likely
remark the metaphor in I m feeling down because it is so deep seated in daily
language. It is because of this entrenchment of the most actively used expressions that
their power to influence our minds is significant (Deignan 2005: 15). In conceptual
metaphors the more abstract, cognitively unavailable target domain is explained by
means of a concrete and cognitively available one, via source domain via the process
of mapping . (Lesz 2011: 13). Examples of conceptual metaphors are metaphors of
construction, creation, destruction, etc. For example, the conceptual metaphor of

In J.M. Coetzee s novel Waiting for the Barbarians, the Magistrate comes to discover
the humanity of the barbarian through his interactions with the blind girl, which
eventually leads him to learn about the nature of his own humanity. Although the
Magistrate is more lenient on the Barbarians than Colonel Joll, he still unknowingly
objectifies them, while placing himself above them. It is only when he is imprisoned
that he comes to realize the fragility of his own humanity. Ultimately Coetzee uses
the magistrate s journey from empirical leader to broken and fearful prisoner to
express that peace and stability between people can only be obtained when all
humanity is valued. At the beginning of the novel, the magistrate actually seems to...

The magistrate states
This body in my bed, for which I am responsible, or so it seems, otherwise why do I
keep it? For the time being, perhaps forever, I am simply bewildered. It seems all
one whether I lie down beside her and fall asleep or fold her in a sheet and bury her
in the snow. Nevertheless, bending over her, touching my fingertips to her forehead, I
am careful not to spill the wax. (43)
Here, the magistrate simply refers to the girl as a body, not as a living human. He
claims that he is responsible for her, showing that he sees her as a possession. He
even refers to her as it, which clearly objectifies her. The fact that he wonders why
he keeps her shows that her only purpose to him is sexual gratification; other than
that she holds no human quality. He says that there would be no difference
between lying next to her and burying her in the snow, showing that he has no
emotional connection to her. When he is careful not to spill the wax, he is
showing some sort of care for her, but only so far as one would care for an object,
just as anyone would want to avoid spilling something on an object of some value.
The magistrate is able to condemn Joll for his dehumanization of the barbarians, but
only because Joll s purpose for the barbarians has to do with the goals of the empire.
They are objects who have no value should they fail to meet the empire s needs. For
the magistrate, the goals of the empire are not of paramount importance. However,

Law enforcement officers equipped with body worn cameras lower external use of
force complaints and better compliance during police and citizens encounters creates
a more positive experience for police and law abiding citizens. In recent years, law
enforcement officers have come under tremendous scrutiny by the public due to police
officers use of excessive force. Several deadly force incidents captured on video
and not captured caused the arrest or dismissal of police officers. Video footage of
law enforcement in the performance of their jobs represents the most powerful
visual evidence that can help exculpate or incriminate police officers and law
abiding citizens. The essence of accountability and responsibility followed by the
consequences of police misconduct exposed on video allow for better
transparency and justice. Officers equipped with body cameras, reduced excessive
use of force complaints and better cooperation from citizen. In today s ubiquitous
cell phone video and surveillance society, police departments should procure body
worn cameras as soon as fiscally possible to utilize and support the officers version
of events during serious or frivolous complaints. Body camera footage properly
secured, affords departments that ability to address costly lawsuits, especially when
officers are wrongly accused of misconduct. In 2015, police distrust and civil
disobedience resurfaced when a white Ferguson, Missouri Police Officer Darren

35. Research And Findings On Outdoor Learning For Children
Introduction Choosing what direction to take on our self direct learning assignment
was based on our interest in children and the environment. More specifically that
children are losing their interest in nature by spending more time on technology,
instead of being outside. We believed that there is an importance in teaching children
in and about the environment. There are positives to have children engaging in
nature early on. Not only are there positive but children can have a better educational
experience in nature. As well as have fun and be safe. In the Background section, we
will be discussing the research and findings on outdoor learningfor children. In the
Process section, we will be evaluating the process and product of the self direct
learning assignment. Background
It is important that children begin to know the world around them first hand because
it s an important part of healthy child development (Louv, 2009) (Wilson, 1996).
Through environmental education a child must learn a sense of respect and care
for nature at a young age or they risk to have a negative attitude towards it (Wilson,
1996). This can directly relate to Leave No Trace because it s principles are meant
to preserve the environment. Two principles that young children should follow are
leave what you find and respect wild life because they are easier for children to
comprehend. These two principles are what my group tried to teach the preschoolers
we engaged with through out nature walk and
36. The Causes And Effects Of Work Organization Hazards
Imagine not being able to eat, drink, or use the restroom for twelve consecutive
hours. These working conditions account for nearly 78 percent of nurses in the
hospital today. According to Jordin Purcell Riess, who is a registered nurse at
Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, being a nurse is probably the
worst job in the world. She also stated that The hallways are always full of ill
patients on a stretcher and as soon as you can get your ICU patient upstairs, there s
another one waiting for you. Work Organization Hazards can cause impaired task
performance, nurses burnout and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) which can
result in high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression. By creating a schedule with
adequate breaks to prevent feeling overwhelmed, positive reaffirmations and healthy
lifestyle choices, work organization hazards can be avoided. Work Organization
Hazards (WOHs) are problems associated with workplace issues that can cause stress
(short term) and strain (long term) on the body. WOHs are common in settings such
as laboratories, hospitals, and nursing homes. WOHs pose Psychological risks which
include the inability to concentrate, depression, anxiety, negative thinking and
memory lapse. Psychological problems often lead to behavioral effects which can
lead to the developing habits such as drinking alcohol, smoking tobacco, absenteeism,
anger outbursts and eating disorders. Physical risks include weight gain, high blood
pressure, stroke,
37. Inaccuracy Of Sensory Information
Three reasons for believing in the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory information is
perception, interpretation, and knowledge. Perception is our sensory experience of
the world around us and involves both the recognition of environmental stimuli and
actions in response to these stimuli (Bagley, 2004). Through the perceptual process,
we gain information about properties and elements of the environment that are
critical to our survival. Perceptionnot only creates our experience of the world around
us, and it also allows us to act within our environment. Interpretation is a
communication process, designed to reveal meanings, and relationships of our
cultural and natural heritage, through involvement with objects, artifacts, landscapes
and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you smell smoke, there is a fire, or at the very least something smoldering, so
you can trust the accuracy of that sensory information. The information provided by
your sense of sight usually provides accurate information about the world around
you. If you see two people talking, there is no doubt about them actually talking. If
you see the sun during the day, you know it is not a cloudy day. There are also
reasons to believe sensory information can be inaccurate for example you see a girl
and guy talking, there is no doubt that they are talking, but if you are insecure in
your relationship and the boy happens to be your boyfriend, you might jump to
wrong conclusions. Though our sensory organs may be working fine,
environmental influences may distort our interpretation of the data the organ is
sending to us. For example, we could look down a street and not see anyone and
think it is safe to walk down that street, but someone could be behind a tree or
other object. We do not always interpret sensory data correctly no matter what
sensory organ we are using. That is the most important reason we should be aware
that we may not always rely on sensory information. Our senses are who we are,
without them we are left to isolation and our ability to think and learn due to lack of
experience. Senses are our connection from the physical world into the realm of our
mind. There is nothing in the mind unless it is first in the senses (Kirby
38. War In The Vietnam War
One does not have to spend much time in a history book to find a recurrent theme of
selfishly motivated commanders behind large scale conflicts throughout time. Of
course, the odd justifiable war exists, such as the American Revolution, in which the
thirteen colonies were waging a full scale war for their independence from their
oppressive mother country. In general, however, one can trace the reasons for military
enactment back to a power hungry leader such as Hitler, a jealous lover like
Menelaus of Sparta, a haughty invader akin to William the Conqueror, or some other
form of a selfish persona with no regard for the havoc warwreaks on those below
them. Those who hold the reins of armies have an incredible responsibility to make

During the United States wars in the middle east alone, an estimated two hundred
and ten thousand civilians have died violent deaths, and the number of deaths
caused by inadequate resources and an inhabitable environment is thought to
exceed that number. During the Vietnam War as many as 2 million civilians on
both sides were slaughtered, as well; the destruction of war does not only affect
those who wear a uniform. These deadly and unnecessary fights, where hands
slippery with blood scrabble to grasp at power, fail to protect anyone, and they
consume life and light and peace in exchange for resources that are far less precious
such a trade goes against all of the goodness in human nature. Wherever war goes,
ruin, irreparable pain, and need become inevitable, leaving those who have no part in
the war to bear the brunt of the burden, so governments should find themselves quite
reluctant to employ military
39. Death Jennings Poem
The author explores the idea of death, and how people are afraid of it up until they
ve lived long enough to not be afraid of it any longer. It wasn t hard for me to
discern the significance of this poem. I don t mean to boast about myself but rather
to highlight the fact that this poem is written very simply, even though the poem is
of a heavy topic. Because of this, I feel that the poem seems to give off a natural
feeling when reading. I believe that because the poem is so casual, it only emphasizes
its underlying meaning that deathis a natural occurrence.
In the first stanza, the author is expressing how this idea of being afraid of death for
so long can eventually cause a person to accept fate. The first line, while we were
fearing it, it came (52), highlights the fact that death is often nearer than when we
think it will be, and often occurs unexpectedly. This is line is relatable on many
levels because every human being on this planet believes that death will only happen
to them far in the future. We never consider the fact that it could happen anytime in
the present due to the fear of not existing anymore. Later on in the stanza, ... Show

The author uses clothes as a metaphor of the fear of death that people wear
everyday of their lives. I believe that it s very clever of the author to use such a
simple item like clothes because something we all can relate to, much like how the
fear of death can be relatable as well. The author expresses the fact that every
morning people wake up and put on these fresh clothes everyday with the intent of
living their lives in the fullest possible way due to the fact that it s far better than to
be afraid of the inevitable. When the author mentions this, it makes me wonder if
she made the mistake of not following this advice and instead lived her life
cowering in fear. If that were the case, it only makes the poem more

I truly believe the wickedness was a victory of the mind over the soul. Brand
instigates as an honest man who carefulness about people and optimizes that all
immoralities are forgivable. Laughter, when out of place, mistimed, or bursting forth
from a disordered state of feeling, may be the most terrible modulation of the human
voice. However, in his logical journey, he grows into the ultimate corrupt man to
ever live. He turns out to be infatuated with the problem of whatever the
Unpardonable Sin is, and in his enthusiasm for finding it, operates others into
pledging depravity as fit. Earliest, Brand s psychosomatic investigation on others can
obviously be taken as monstrous. Next, his self inflicted unfriendliness leads to an
unsympathetic outlook of men. His standards understanding over empathy and
puncture himself off. He fools the Esther of the tale, the daughter of an old
gentleman, with stony and merciless resolve into his emotional experimentation
which unexploited, fascinated, and possibly overwhelmed her humanity . The
Unpardonable Sin can be understood like that. They tell me you have been all over
the earth, said he, wringing his hands with earnestness. You must have seen my
daughter, for she makes a grand figure in the world, and everybody goes to see her.
Did she send any word to her old father, or say when she was coming
41. The Photographic Portrait Of Art
A portrait in art as we know is an artist s representation of another person or one s
self, in which the face is the main subject matter. As one of the most widely used
forms of art adopted by painters, sculptures and photographers, at some point in our
lives we have all had our portrait taken either it being in a photographic studio, sat
for a fine artist or in your local post office in the passport photo booth. The
photographic portrait is a paradox of everlasting contradictions and whether identity
is really fixed within portraiture is an endless debate, leaving the viewer with open
ended questions rather than a sense of truth and identity portrayed in a photograph.
Whether portraits are simply a documentation of someone s existences... Show more

Illusionistic Realism the art style that employs accurate visual representations which
uses elements of the human anatomy to depict Greek mythological stories visually
involving idealisation to mimic the prefect representation of their subject (a painting
showing no flaws) which is beyond realistic this art style went on to soon influenced
Realism in the 16th century and the Early Renaissance period which employed a
linear perspective transferring a much more natural reality to the painting, this
perspective is also applied when looking through a camera lens. For example, during
the Renaissance period Hans Holbein s portrait of Erasumus and The Ambassadors
indicate identity and representation through the props in the background of the
paintings to reveal the subject personality s such as in the notorious oil double
portrait of The Ambassadors Holbein used props to link the two subjects, in such on
the left we see Jean de Dinteville represented as a wealthy man presented in satin
clothing whilst holding a danger in
42. Fraley s Two Models Of Discontinuity In Attachment Theory
Although the social and cognitive mechanisms invoked by attachment theorists imply
that stability in attachment style may be the rule rather than the exception, these
basic mechanisms can predict either long run continuity or discontinuity, depending
on the precise ways in which they are conceptualized (Fraley, 2002). Fraley (2002)
discussed two models of continuity derived from attachment theorythat make
different predictions about long term continuity even though they were derived from
the same basic theoretical principles. Each model assumes that individual differences
in attachment representations are shaped by variation in experiences with caregivers
in early childhood, and that, in turn, these early representations shape the quality
43. What Is Hale s Role In The Play Trifles
Trifles is a play that revolves around the death of Mr. Wright. Henry Peters, the
acting sheriff and the county attorney, Mr. George Henderson, arrive at the Wright
s farmhouse with witnesses, Mr. Lewis Hale, Mrs. Peters, and Mrs. Hale. Mr. Hale
describes and recites how he discovered Mrs. Wright, acting strange, as she rocked
eerily back and forth, pleating her apron. She claimed that Mr. Wright was
murdered in his sleep, while she slept soundly next to him. Regardless of the notion
that there was a gun discovered in the farmhouse, Mr. Wright was brutally strangled
with a rope. The women, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale, are oddly concerned and show
great worry about the trifles found in the case. The attorney allows for the women to
collect a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dead bird, draped in cloth, with a rope around its neck, is the most critical piece
of evidence and proved Mrs. Wright s character. She was dreary, and had pent up
anger that was related to her marriage; she was not joyous and happy, she had
withdrawn from the church choir and now, could barely finish her household chores.
Mrs. Wright was an exhausted woman, quite possibly insane and she longed for
nothing more than freedom and liberation from the heavy weight in her life, her
husband. It can be concluded that Mrs. Wright did have a recognizable, and
reasonable motive. Her husband had depleted and destroyed her happiness. The bird
acts as a symbolism for Mrs. Wright s sanity, or what remained. When the bird was
gruesomely strangled and its neck was snapped, she too snapped and grew deranged
and irrational. In the instance that the bird stopped living, Mr. Wright, too, had
declared his future and
44. Class Structure In The Twelve Tables
The Twelve Tables is an ancient Roman table of laws that have shaped Roman
culture and society as we understand it. From those laws, a greater understanding of
Roman life is revealed. Beyond the rules, there is evidence of class structure, and
economy. As well as family relations and power. The Twelve Tables touch on slander
and death in Roman lives.
The Twelve Tables informs on Roman class structure and Roman economy and
describes prevalent crimes in ancient Roman times and the equality of Romans.
The Roman class structure involved the patricians at the top of the social class,
plebeians at the bottom of the social class. There was a divide in the class structure
with most Romans being plebeians which were the poorest social class, and very few
being patricians, the wealthy class. The Twelve Tables suggest that was a problem in
the economy due to the laws it provides. The Roman economy was poor at the time
of the Twelve Tables, since the asses, bronze coin, 500 asses or 50 asses ... it shall be
argued by solemn deposit with 500 asses, when the property is valued at 1,000 asses
or more, but with 50 asses, when the property is valued at less than 1,000 asses , was
used for validity in legal cases ( The Rise of Rome, c. 753 44 B.C.E 89). The
economy was not doing well since the Romans did not have the funds to afford a
trial, the penalty sum, in action by solemn deposit shall be 500 asses or 50 asses (
The Rise of Rome, c. 753 44 B.C.E 89). The state of the economy is also
45. The Ancient Greek Democracy
The ancient Greeks can tell us a lot about democracy. We can reference three fields:
ancient history, classical political theory, and political science. These three fields
teach us that the classic Greek knowledge has more to tell us about the roots and
definition of democracy, and about the relationship between participatory democracy
and formal institutions, rhetoric, political values, culture, and religion.
Where does democracy come from? Given that Greek democracy is the earliest
known case of the appearance of democracy in an intricate society, the question of
its origins is of specific significance. Democracy, in the Greek context, is best
understood as a strong form of Greek republicanism that is, of governments in
which a large part of the native male population enjoys full political opinion (active
citizenship), based on an assumed rough equality of public standing among citizens.
Republics of this type discard the political monopoly of small and preventive bodies
of elites. Democracy is an important part of the legacy of the Greeks.
WHAT IS DEMOCRACY
The Greek word dГЄmokratia conjoins kratos, a term for power, and dГЄmos, a
term for the people. Therefore, Greek democracy is usually and rightly viewed as
contrary to most modern forms of democracy in its emphasis on the significance of
the direct participation of normal people in collective self governance. The question
remains, power and people in what sense? One way to advance this definitional
question
46. Advancements In Technology And Transhumanism
The talk between the advancements in technology and the idea of transhumanism
have been highly neglected. The advancements in technology have allowed us as
humans to converse, interact, and create huge opportunities for a better world.
Transhumanism has been of talk lately and it benefits us as humans in many ways.
Both of these topics are interconnected because without technology there is no way
transhumanismwould be possible. Although, technology and transhumanism have
their downfalls they provide nothing but positive outcomes. With technology
providing us with opportunities that were believed to be impossible and the idea
of transhumanism allowing us to create a life that one could only imagine, present
us with a utopian way of living. Technology has been advancing year after year
providing the people with opportunities to grow. We use technology every single
day. Many use it to conversate and interact with family or people all around the
world. In an article titled Life in the Fourth Millennium by Steven Pinker he states
that Humans are social species with intense longings for friends, communities,
family and spouses, consummated by face to face contact. (Pinker 13th paragraph).
Face to face contact is what humans were presented with until the 2000 s. This day
in age it is too expensive to travel across country or to another country just to be
consummated by face to face contact. With these advancements we are able to
communicate face to face via Skype,
47. Documentation For Quality Data Preparation ( Federal...
Introduction
This assignment utilizes one of the file sets in the FAA database, Aircraft Series, to
demonstrate a proposed process for quality data preparation (Federal Aviation
Administration Data Downloads, n.d.). This documentation includes a process
overview, a description of the data files, two attempts at cleaning the data, and
validation and standardization of the resulting content. A short discussion of data
integrity, data validation, data governance, and documentation follows including
recommendations to overcome the challenges encountered.
Process Overview
Per the advice of Robin Hunt s video tutorial, the exercise began with a notional
workflow diagram (2015). After two attempts, the succeeding process consolidated
into a series of four phases, each described in the following sections. The complete
diagram appears below. Figure 1. Assignment Workflow Diagram Select Data
The FAA database provided the sourcedata. The data cleaning process required
downloading two text formatted files in the subject area of Accident/Incident data:
the source data file and a document describing the layout of the source data file. The
website download process appeared similar to the figure below:
Figure 2. FAA Data Download Web Page
On first inspection, the downloaded source data file appeared to only contain text
characters similar to as shown below. Figure 3. Aircraft Series Source Data File
The data contained 4959 rows (as measured by Notepad ++) and
49. Figurative Language In The Secret Lion By Alberto Rios
The text that will be analyzed is a short story called The Secret Lion by Alberto
Rios. This text is jam packed full of figurative language such as symbolism and
personification. The story is a memory from the author himself about when he was
growing up as a kid in the border town of Nogales, Arizona. He has just reached
junior high and he is in the early stages of becoming an adult. He does not like the
fact that he is growing up and he wants to stay as a kid. Through the use of
symbolism, the author takes the reader on a magical journey through their childhood
using the arroyo, the grinding ball, and the golf course. The most prominent use of
figurative language in the story is the author s use of symbolism. There are multiple
items throughout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The heaven is the golf course behind the boys house. The boys always saw the
green hills back there and had always wondered what it truly was. Their mother
had told them to never go over there but one day they finally convinced her to let
them venture over. The boys packed themselves a lunch, which included a
sandwich and a Coke, and they headed over to the green hills. Upon arrival, the
boys were shocked at what they saw. At the time, the boys had not known what a
golf course was so finding a green golf course in the middle of a desert was quite
astounding for them. The boys headed towards the green of a hole and decided to
have their lunch there. The boys used the hole itself as a cup holder for their Coke;
thinking that that was what it was meant for. After a bit of relaxing and eating, a
couple of men with bags of clubs around their backs approached the boys. They
yelled at them to move so they could hit their ball into the hole; the hole the boys
thought was a cup holder. The boys then fled, later figuring out that they were on a
golf course. The golf course is the boys childhood. The men that shooed the boys off
represents adulthood. The adults are telling the boys to forget their childhood and
move on to adulthood. Jim O Loughlin in The Facts On File Companion to American
Poetry, vol. 2 says, In much of his work, RГos explores truths of experience that do
not conform to rational explanation. (116). Jim is very correct in this statement.
Alberto Rios uses very out of the ordinary techniques to convey his message. In this
story, it would be Rios using odd objects to convey himself and a friend growing up.
Irena Praitis in Encyclopedia of Hispanic American Literature says, The world RГos
creates in his books is a world characterized by magical realism. (81). Most would
agree with Irena in this statement because Rios loves to use magical realism in his
short stories. Magical realism is a
50. Big Data And Bare Metal Essay
Big Data and Bare Metal TOC EXEC SUMARY GOES HERE ONCE PAPER
COMPLETED Introduction The industry is inundated with articles on big data. Big
data news is no longer confined to the technical web pages. You can read about big
data in the mainstream business publications such as Forbes and The Economist.
Each week the media reports on breakthroughs, startups, funding and customer use
cases. No matter your source for information on big data, one thing they all have in
common is that the amount of information an organization will manage is only going
to increase; this is what s driving the big data movement. Organizations are relying on
increasing amounts of information from a variety of sources, text, images, audio,
video, etc., to analyze, improve and execute their operations. These information
sources are very large and complex and include data sets that are structured and
unstructured and today s processing applications are inadequate and expensive.
Industries suffering from big data challenges include the financial services,
healthcare, retail, and communications, to name a few. These industries have been
collecting data for years and with the advent of the Internet of Things data is growing
exponentially. The challenge is how to make sense of this data and turn it into
business value analytics and predictive analytics. The big data phenomenon is about
collecting and storing large amounts of data and running analytics application ns on
these large datasets.
