Geography Matters
People all around the world have different ways of living. When authors write their books they often
use geography as a big part of the meaning behind the story. Although many stories have a bigger
meaning than just the geography the way the characters are brought up or how and where they lived
can really have an effect on their future. Writers use setting to develop a text by exaggerating the
setting and stating events that happened in a certain setting and it can really interest and help the
reader along with the story. Geography matters a lot in a story because it can really point the reader in
the direction of understanding and paying close attention to the story. For example in the story
Geography Matters , in one of the books The Old Man and the Sea it can only take place in the
Caribbean but mainly around Cuba. This story is very popular mainly because of the geography and
setting the author takes into consideration the culture of Cuba and makes that ... Show more content

Almost everyone was extremely religious and sinning was a big crime. People of this town knew what
was tolerated and what was not but some of them did not follow these rules for example Abigail
Williams she was having an affair with John Proctor and was connecting with witches in the woods.
Rev Parris who was the father of Betty Parris the little girl who was in a possessed like state knew
Abigail was up to something but didn t want his reputation getting destroyed since he was a big part of
the Church like when Rev Hale asked him if he permitted dancing and Rev Parris quickly said, no, no
it were secret (Miller 38). Abigail developed from the setting of The Crucible by towards the end of
the story she finally admitted that she was connecting with the witches despite what everyone in the
town would think of her. The setting also helped Rev Parris because he came to the realization that the
girls were telling the truth and that he had to believe

The War Of The Roses And Ends With Last English
Covering a period which starts with the Hundred Years War already in full swing, contains the start of
the Wars of the Roses and ends with last English king to die in battle the level of participation of the
aristocracy and the roles which they fulfilled is a natural continuation of the topic, especially given
how kings can be lauded or vilified for their participation or non participation in military matters but it
was the nobility who functioned as military commanders or otherwise notable figures in the battles
who had much greater military command, often give entirely to their discretion. Whether the role
changed drastically during the hundred and fifty year period is debatable, as it what would constitute a

There were fewer high level aristocrats who went along with the Black Prince s chevauchee s in
France during the early 1350 s and more Knights of the Garter, which was an honour often bestowed
on those who came from minor nobility but who rode with the Black Prince.
However the first expedition in the period involved the Earls of Warwick, Oxford and Stafford as well
as a number of knights and each of the three earls was placed in charge of a battalion and, rather than
fighting any French they instead sacked the town of Languedoc. The next was 1359 60 where far more
nobles, the Earls of Northampton, Warwick, Oxford, Suffolk and the Duke of Lancaster although all

The Battle of Agincourt had the Dukes of Gloucester and York present who were given command of

professional military contractors meaning the upper aristocracy with earls being the most numerous
military leaders and, although he admits that the course of war allowed the odd man from the gentry to

My Favorite TV Show
One day, I was waiting to watch my favorite TV show it always comes on at 3:30 pm. I was sitting on
my Black couch. When it was 3:30 what was weird is that they had a marathon happening about PLL
my favorite show. I was so excited because I got to see it over again. So then I did after I was done
with everything they had an announcement saying PLL is over there is not gonna be anymore of it. I
got so mad because they stopped it on the best part when they were gonna show who was AD. The
next day, Judith saw that PLL was over she Texted me. RING RING my phone went. Hi Judith I

The Hunger Games Movie Analysis
In the following film, The Hunger Games directed by Gary Ross, it focuses primarily on the
protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers to partake the Hunger games tribute that occurs once a
year. Every year in each district, each of the two members of each gender is selected to fight the
annual Hunger Games. Katniss intends to be the center of attention of this film, which gives the
audiences a better insight of the movie, also revealing additional themes that the author is trying to
convey.
At first sight, this movie may seem it s about killing for entertainment purposes. However, by going
deeper into the film s primary messages, the meaning behind The Hunger Games is the government s
way of showing how much power each district can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example that demonstrates the theme of survival is after when Katniss s father passed away. Her
mother started giving up and becomes mentally unstable due to her Husband s loss. Katniss continues
to pull her family through the toughest moments after her father s death. Furthermore, Katniss s strong
personality helped to keep her and her family alive. During the Hunger Games, Katniss is out on the
battlefield hoping she will survive and declare victory. She uses a rope to climb on trees to decrease
her risk of death and she was able to take advantage of the resources that were given to her. Katniss
was able to demonstrate survival because of her ability to keep herself hidden from the enemy tributes.
Although she s from a poor district, she was able to plan her moves intelligently and succeed at the
end. Survival is a very important skill throughout Katniss s role because she wouldn t be alive without
them. However, survival wouldn t have been brought up without mentioning the next important theme
in the film.
An essential theme that is politically and socially relevant to the film is the idea of rich versus poor. In
Panem, the wealth is heavily represented as the governments and the game makers behind the Hunger
Games. On the other hand, the citizens living in the Capitol represent the poor. In contrast, there is a
huge disparity between the lives of the wealthly and the poor. Researchers believed that the alleviation

The Ecosystem Of The Chesapeake Bay
The Ecosystem
Introduction to Basic Geography
Fig. 1.1
Scene in Fig. 1.1., the Chesapeake Bay is substantial in size; at roughly 64,000 miles, it contains
roughly fifty rivers and thousands of streams and creeks. It encompasses parts of 6 states, including all
of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bay is what is known as a watershed, an area that contributes to
the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within the 64,000 square
miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams and rivers, eventually
making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States.
The Estuary System
An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward and
ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An
estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the best
and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique in
nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans have
attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. There productivity lies it
the constant change that occurs from the conflicting flows of fresh and ocean water. Ocean and
freshwater are measured largely based on salinity, or the level of parts of salt per thousand. Ocean
water usually

Natchez Daily Courier Summary
The United States was in the throes of the Civil War at the time of Scott s death. Slaves that once ran
plantations have runaway or have joined the Union forces. The workforce of the South was
diminishing and the taxation of the confederacy was wearing. Medora comes to depend on Eviline and
Washington Bone/Brown (slaves of Medora) as well as Delaney and Easter Jackson and their families.
The Civil War, though not fought in Jefferson County, Mississippi, experienced occasions when the
soldiers of both the Union and the Confederate Armies did cross Poplar Hill Plantation and other
properties of the late Samuel Scott. What is important about the article found in the Natchez Daily

Scott s, they took a Negro boy to pilot them, declaring that if he took them to Fayette they would kill
him. Two miles above Fayette they cut the telegraph wire, and turning towards Port Gibson, proceeded
about one mile, and then by a circuitous route reached the Union Church road, three miles east of
Fayette. Proceeding in that direction, they halted at Mrs. W. Scott s about nine o clock at night and
fed. After a delay of an hour and a half, they took up their line of march in the direction of Union
Church. Soon after leaving Mr. Scott s, (William Scott brother of Samuel) the Negro boy made his
escape and returned home. On the road, they met a Mr. Baldridge, and after breaking his gun, they
took him with them. They disturbed no property. They inquired of several Negroes, if they had seen
any Yankee troops. At best a difficult story to retell of the terror that the boy and Mr. Baldridge

Examples Of Euphemism In The Giver
Lois Lowry s book, The Giver, illustrates a futuristic society in which a strict law is enforced and no
citizen thinks of going against that law. There are no deviations from what is considered the normal. A
large contribution to the creation of their perfect society is keeping the public unaware of things
happening around them. Lowry helps create this perfect world by creating euphemisms in their
everyday speech where the main purpose is keeping the public from completely understanding the
whole truth. Not only did the euphemisms play a large part in the book, but also, the author s own
personal experiences and events that occurred around the same time as the writing of the book helped
to shape the book into what it is now. In 1994, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lowry continues by explaining that by ignoring the girl it almost made her invisible; like she was not
there at all. That instilled a sense of comfort or safeness (Telgen 169). By shutting out the different in
her college dormitory all of the other girls felt a sense of comfort or safeness. This feeling they created
is very similar to the feeling Jonas community creates by controlling the characteristics of their
community and making sure that everything is the same and there are no outliers. Other memories that
Lowry used to create The Giver that were not mentioned in her Newbery Acceptance speech were
revealed in a book she wrote in 1998 called Looking Back: A Book of Memories. In her book she was
able to correlate the quote,
Lily, please hold still, Mother said again. Lily, standing in front of her, fidgeted impatiently. I can tie
them myself, she complained. I always have. I know that, Mother replied, straightening the hair
ribbons on the little girl s braids. But I also know that they constantly come loose and more often than
not, they re dangling down your back by afternoon. Today, at least, we want them to be neatly tied and
to stay neatly tied (Lowry 40). to growing up in 1911, when it was a time of ribbons

Analysis Of The Book Little Red Cap By Angela Carter
Fairytales subvert, challenge or reaffirm archetypal values through didactic lenses. The presence of
universal themes allows for an examination of contextual shifts and by being malleable in nature, can
be made relevant to different audiences. The Brothers Grimm s Little Red Cap , Angela Carter s The
Company of Wolves and Tommy Wirkola s film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters all promote their
hegemonic ideologies and as cultural artefacts extrapolate the contextual values of their time period.
Carl Jung s theory of the Collective Unconscious ensures that each of these fairytale adaptations can
retain their archetypal value and thus remain significant and relevant in contemporary circumstances.
The Brother Grimm s 19th Century Fairytale, Little Red Cap reflects the hegemonies of its context
through its cautionary justification. Grimm s work reflected the importance of German national
cohesion under French occupation and the view towards foreigners as destructive usurpers. Little Red
Cap was adapted for instructional purposes, specifically aimed at a children s audience. Initially in the
tale, the subversion of Perrault s depiction of the girl is evident exemplifying her as a sweet little girl
and the hyperbolic everybody loved her instantly on first sight demonstrates the engrained virtue of
her youth. The instruction for Little Red Cap to not stray from the path foreshadows the inherent
danger associated with a misguided venture. The symbolism of

How the Introduction of the Individual into a...
How the Introduction of the Individual into a Non traditional Sport for His or Her Gender Affects that
Individual and the Sport Itself A high school age boy makes the papers when he joins the girls varsity
field hockey team at his high school. A woman is judged according to femininity rather than muscle
mass in a body building competition. An African American is thought inferior to his white
counterparts on the sports field. A woman is discouraged from playing contact sports under the pretext
of being too delicate. All of these events have one thing in common: they, in their own context,
involve individuals entering a non traditional sport for their gender or race. Over the years, events
such as these continually arise causing either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all, I myself would have been surprised if a boy showed up on the field one day wearing a skirt
like the rest of the team and expecting to play in the game. Part of the problem is that it is so
uncommon. People are afraid of things that they ve never seen or done. Non traditional athletes in
certain sports are partially unaccepted due to the fact that they are a first. This is part of the reason
why Bev (from Pumping Iron II), was so unaccepted by the judges of the women s bodybuilding
contest: the judges were disgusted by her muscularity. Images of muscular women... are disconcerting,
even threatening... [she was a] threat to established values. (Holmlund 302) There is a first for
everything, but firsts are always hard to accept and integrate into society. There was, for instance, a
single female member of the wrestling team at my high school. It was something that we d all heard of
happening at other high schools, but was never something that we d anticipated coming to our high
school. She was seen as being strange: butch, unlady like, even ugly. I never gave her more than a
thought because I felt the same. In this context however, of non traditional athletes in sports, I see how
hard she must have worked to overcome the obstacle of being the social outcast due to her perceived
peculiarity. Wrestling must have been something that she loved to do. If I can respect women like
Martina Navratilova or Tony Stone for being pioneer women in

Snow Country
In the novel Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata the theme of wasted effort is displayed throughout
the novel many times, to label a person s actions such as Komako. Shimamura, the main character,
implies the theme various times when people such as Komako will complete tasks that have no
meaning behind them and he would consider them as being a waste of time and effort. Even though
Shimamura believes that some of Komako s tasks have no purpose behind them, ironically their
relationship grows stronger each time Komako completes a task that is labeled as wasted effort. The
first time the theme wasted effort was mentioned in the novel was when Komako is having a
conversation with Shimamura about her diary. While Komako and Shimamura talk ... Show more

Shimamura found out about these rumors because he was gossiping with the masseuse about Komako.
These rumors made him feel like Komako was just selling herself short just to get money, which was
portrayed to the reader when the narrator expresses Shimamura s thoughts after being told this
complicated rumor: [...] the expression wasted effort again came into Shimamura s mind. For Komako
thus to guard her promise to the end, for her even to sell herself to pay doctors bills what was it if not
wasted effort? (Kawabata 61). This example of Shimamura s thoughts portrays to the reader that he
has feelings for Komako and that he does not think that she should spend her time doing things that is
not worth her while just for money, especially if the man is dying. It s portrayed to the reader that
Shimamura cares about Komako when the narrator explains an action that Shimamura will pursue in
the future: He would accost her with this fact, he would drive it home, when he saw her again, he said
to himself; and yet her existence seemed to have become purer and cleaner for this new bit of
knowledge (Kawabata 61 62). This illustrates to the reader that Shimamura would rather go to
Komako about the rumor to see if it is really true, rather than believing what other people say and
spread the rumor even more. This action is portrayed when Shimamura asks Komako about the rumor
and she asks him did he believe it, and he said: I couldn t quite believe all of it (Kawabata 67). This
shows Komako that she can have some trust in Shimamura because he came to her first, and got the
real truth. This part in the book also portrays how Komako and Shimamura grew in their relationship,
because they now have trust between them which is an important key in a

Proposal To Reduce Gang Violence
According to Statistic Brain gang member statistics, 40% of gang members are under the age of 18,
and there are 90% of juvenile boys in a correctional facility with gang affiliation. With that large
number in place our youth is where we need to start when it comes to ending gang violence. It is
harder to separate someone from something they have been doing all of their lives, but a young teen
has a fighting chance if our community comes together and put programs in place like join a team not

the U.S. We started in Los Angeles CA, the city of Los Angeles has high crime rates and are known

How Vacation Is A Good Time
Going on vacation is a way to relax, reduce stress, and spend time with my family. The different
cultures, places, and laughs that we experience on vacations are truly memorable. When I was
younger, my sister and I would take vacations with my grandparents. On these road trips, we would go
hiking, go to water parks, and have picnics. On every trip, either someone was embarrassed or injured.
When I was 8 or 9 years old, I was afraid that my grandpa was seriously hurt on one of our trips.
Ultimately, on most of our adventures, we all had a laugh and a good time. Although it s important to
take vacations and trips with my family, we should remember to be safe and smart, have a good time,
and make vacations memorable. We were on our way to a park called Turkey Run, in Indiana, with
trails, a water park and picnic areas. We stopped at a gas station with lots of treats and a McDonalds
with a Play Place. At the time, my sister and I loved to play in the jungle gyms after we ate at
McDonalds. The vehicle that we drove down to the park was a conversion van that had a toilet, a bed,
and a sink. We stayed in the van during the nights, while we were on vacation, instead of going to a
hotel or staying in tents. We either slept in a pull out bed, on the floor, or between the two front seats. I
liked this aspect of the trip because it not only created memories from the vacation, but I liked the
sleeping conditions throughout the adventure. This van was a part of who my grandparents

The Classroom 20 Things Good Teachers Do Analysis
What makes a good teacher? While many people may have certain credentials and can make list out of
these. The teacher must have a strong connection with his students, energetic enthusiastic, the list can

future educators it is important for us to reflect, and remember our roots of where we came from and
the different techniques both positive and negative that our teachers used in the classroom. Not only
does this help us grow as educators, but it helps us learn the importance of the kind of environment we
want to create in the classroom. Urban introduces these credentials by talking about how in one of his
classes professor Dr. Kirk, asked who your favorite teacher was and why? He then responds saying Dr.

Age Of Exploration Dbq Essay
Age Of Exploration: DBQ Throughout the course of history, a civilization may gain benefit from the
demolition of another. This course of action was the driving force of the Age of Exploration. What the
Spanish called discovery was really the downfall and destruction of a thriving civilization, only to be
rebuilt for the use of trans continental trade in the form of colonization. The survivors would be
enslaved and their neighbors would soon follow. The Age of Exploration can be remembered as a time

the Europeans simply took over without any effort and began changing the politics of the

merely because he was there. But the real reason is because there was nothing to sacrifice with
because he has removed it from their land, and if there was, they would probably be too intimidated to

Aaron Schwartz This essay is about the personality of the internet activism Aaron Schwartz. .People
could say that the perfect citizen does not exist, I actually do not know if that is true, but what I surely
know is that Aaron was perfect citizen for me: Everything in Aaron is special; the way he dresses, the

great if he stayed alive, he would have done many things, if I could be a petit percent of what he is.
But let s start to describe the way that Arron looks like. At first sight, you could see that he doesn t

different cheap informal clothes such as jeans and T shirts. His clothes fit well with the way he looks,

The Differences Between Men and Women Essay
For countless generations it has been a mystery, almost creditable for extensive research and
investigation, why men and women are viewed as complete opposites. Men and women have never
and will never be the same. From the beginning, men have been trained and conditioned to be the
dominant hunters in society, where as women were generally the less aggressive individuals in any
given population. But after all, they were born to be different, excluding anatomical distinctions. In
spite of medical enhancements, women live four to five years longer than men. They both have
various reactions to certain prescription and over the counter drugs. Women are more susceptible to
certain diseases like lung cancer and some HIV, although more men tend to ... Show more content on

For eon men have been the travelers and hunters while women stayed behind to forage and gather,
which is why men and women deal with different scenarios throughout the day, everyday. Thus, their
views on certain situations are most likely to differ. One of which includes walking alone at night, a
subject Robert Levey presented in his essay Men vs. Women Over Walking at Night, which is about
how men are not aware of women s fears. Most men do quickly realize why woman would be
concerned, but they must first stop and think about it why she should feel that way (Student Eight).
That statement is blatantly true, because of the way a majority of men are raised. They are scrutinized
and even anticipated to be the dominant I can do whatever I want, I am man! type of character. They
have to be the man about everything (Student Three). Even as children, boys and girls are taught
unequally. Boys are expected to play rough, enjoy dirty objects, be daring and roam about carelessly,
their toys include sports balls, action figures, and guns. Girls however are anticipated to be polite,
passive, neat, subordinate and for the most part, veiled, and play with dolls, E Z Bake Ovens, easy
wash away makeup, and kitchen utensils. After which, the pattern works itself to marriage, the woman
has to change her last name to her male counter part, some times losing her first name as well. Why?

Arthur Andersen Case Study
Arthur Andersen Co. was founded in Chicago by Arthur Andersen, a young Northwestern University
professor and his partner, Clarence DeLany in 1913 but, DeLany left the partnership in 1918 so the
firm s name was changed to Arthur Andersen and Company. (Encyclopedia of Chicago, 2005) Thus,
Andersen began as a pioneer accounting firm who offered customers help with new federal income
taxes and other accounting problems and its first client was the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company of
Milwaukee. Unfortunately Arthur Andersen passed away in 1947, but the firm s leadership was passed
to Leonard Spacek.
Nevertheless, Mr. Spacek shaped the firm into a genuine international company and during his 26 year
term (1947 1973), the firm s client base rose from 2,300 to 50,000. Still, the company became
increasingly involved in providing consulting services in the 1970s and in 1988, the Arthur Andersen
Co. (AA Co.) was the largest consulting firm in the world. By this time, I had joined the firm as a
Senior Executive Assistant and in 1989 after years of disharmony; the firm was split into two
companies, AA Co. (accounting services) and Andersen Consulting (consulting services). Although
these entities were financially separate, they were governed by Switzerland based Arthur Andersen

Our first important financial ratio is the current ratio. The current ratio measures a firms potential or
ability to pay off it s short term debts (or liabilities) with specifically it s current assets. Short term
liabilities are due within a year, which makes the current ratio extremely important. The ratio is both a
liquidity ratio and an efficiency ratio. A company favors a higher current ratio because it shows the
company can pay current debt payments with little hassle. If a company has a current ratio of 3, it
means the company has 3x the current assets than current liabilities. But If a company

My beast, also known as the shovelbug, lives in a desert ecosystem with cold nights and scorching hot
days. Due to these weather changes, the invertebrate has adapted to the environment in a couple of
ways, which will be explained later. Even though there is very little of it, the vegetation that is found
there includes low lying grasses/mosses and cacti. These patches of grass are scattered throughout the
desert and there may be a variety of different species building their habitats in them. Aside from being
a home to native species, the patches of grass may also be hiding predators waiting to strike. Lastly, is

It is a small invertebrate with multiple adaptations to survive in the desert ecosystem. For starters, this
insect has very strong mandibles which can instantly kill the shovelbug s prey. However, the way it
traps its prey in the first place is the interesting part. Similar to an antlion, the shovelbug digs a small
pit in the sand with its shovel like legs, hence the name shovelbug. Soon after, an unknowing insect
may wander into this pit and become food as a result. Having said that, this isn t all it does to capture
prey. This insect actually creates a web identical to that of a spider s which ensures that the shovelbug
s food won t be escaping. Additionally, my beast has developed long, oval shaped wings like the ones
you would find on dragonflies. This adaptation makes for a quick escape if the shovelbug comes
across a dangerous predator. Another adaptation to avoid predators is the hard exoskeleton which
helps them blend into their environment. This exoskeleton was originally just camouflaged flesh that
would change color depending on the surroundings. It still serves the same purpose with the additional

Heat Is The Transfer Of Thermal Energy Between...
Heat is the transfer of thermal energy between substances. Thermal energy is the kinetic energy of
moving particles of matter. If you go camping, you usually build a fire to sit around at night. Have you
ever wondered why a marshmallow cooks without touching the flame, why the smoke rises, or why
water in a pan boils? Heat can move from one object to another in three different ways: conduction,
convection and radiation.
Some sources of heat may include the following: the sun, friction, and the earth. Life on earth depends
on the sun. The sun provides heat/light for the entire solar system. A person could generate a fire by
rubbing two sticks together. The Earth contains much heat seep inside. Some of the heat escapes to the

Thermal energy radiates through air from a fire causing the fire s energy to transfer to the
marshmallow.
As stated before, thermal conductor occurs when particles of warmer matter bump into particles of
cooler matter and transfer some of their thermal energy to the cooler particles. Conduction is usually
faster in certain solids and liquids than in gases. Returning to the example of a camp fire; what
happens if you use an old metal hangar to roast hot dogs? As the hot dogs cooks, the fire heats the end
of the hanger. If we leave the hanger in the fire long enough, eventually the end we are holding will
become too hot for us to handle. The flames to the metal were transferred by the heat, and then from
molecule to molecule in the hanger. Now, what would have happened if you had chosen a stick to
roast your hot dog? Though the stick may have caught fire, it would not have conducted the heat to
your hand. This is because wood is a very poor heat conductor.
Heat insulators are materials that do not let heat move through them easily. They do not conduct heat
well. Plastic, wood and some fabrics are good thermal insulators. Thermal insulators are good at
keeping heat out and keeping heat in. A winter scarf is a good example of a thermal insulator. It stops
the heat from your body escaping into the cold air.
Temperature is defined as the average kinetic energy of the particles of matter. When

Society plays a big role in a child s development and the way they are going to be raised. One of the
biggest solutions that can help is rehabilitation. This can help can help them and give them a positive

juvenile justice system has a history of poor academic education. In rehabilitation, the youth has a
right to receive education, such as getting caught up with their school work. Juveniles need a strong
education programs, so they are inspired to finish their studies and pursue careers in the future.
Another solution for juvenile justice is detention centers. A judge can send a juvenile to a detention
facility. Detention facility are temporary housing for the youth who committed crimes. Detention
sentences are usually short term instead of long term. It is a wakeup call for juveniles and won t
commit that crime again. Home confinement is another solution than sending them to prison. The

can have an impact on the juvenile. Family treatment, such as interventions, with the youth can

Baking Soda Lab Report
Introduction
Baking soda is a common household item. It is used for a variety of things from cooking to cleaning.
Baking soda is synthesised on an industrial scale using the Solvay process. The Solvay process consist
of using limestone and extreme heat in order to break down the limestone into carbon dioxide and
calcium oxide.1
CaCO3(s)→ CO2(g) + CaO(s) The carbon dioxide is then combined with a concentrated solution of
water, sodium chloride, and ammonium. The ammonia and water react to make ammonium hydroxide
that reacts with sodium and carbon dioxide to form sodium bicarbonate.

Results and Discussions After filtration, 5.256 g of sodium bicarbonate was obtained. An experimental
error in this experiment was that 100 percent of the carbon dioxide did not go through the nalgene
tube because some went up the thistle tube. Another source of experimental error was that not all of
the sodium bicarbonate could be rinsed off of the glassware and not all of it was filtered. Both sources
of experimental error led to a lower yield. Precipitation reactions could have been done to confirm the
presence of carbonate ions in the product. Either calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, or silver could
have been added to the product and carbonate would have precipitated out. Using stoichiometry and
the mole to mole ratio from the 2nd formula listed above, it was found that 3x108 Kg of carbon

International Corporate Governance. In recent years the issue of corporate governance has become a
keenly debated topic in international finance. In developed countries, some of the biggest corporate
collapses in history have brought about a change in focus. No longer are governments and lawmakers

Thus the rules which have helped these corporations to prosper will be perpetuated. This in turn makes

are other reasons for the huge differences between countries legal systems. The size of the economy
and the nature of business therein must play a part in the types of governance systems created.
Cultural differences must also affect the laws, at a more fundamental level. Conclusion In 2000
Katarina Pistor wrote a paper which examined convergence/divergence issue in transition economies.
She concluded that a simple convergence story does not do justice to the complexity of legal change
(Pistor 2000, pp. 27). On of the key issues raised in this paper was that legal convergence in transition
economies is mainly because of an external supply of legal solutions, and not as a result of the
adaptation of successful strategies. Another point was that in many countries, it appeared that systems
were developed in response to problems and not with a long term goal in mind. In general, it is clear
that neither the convergence or divergence models, tell us the whole story. Whilst some level of
convergence has been observed, the persistence of divergence is undeniable. The importance of path
dependency in determining the corporate governance

Black bears also like salmon and other kinds of fish and will hunt for small mammals if available
where they live. They grip their prey with their sharp teeth or claws. If given the opportunity they will
attack (or threaten) other predators to scavenge their prey. In fact wolves are weary of bears who
monitor their hunting activities. BLACK BEAR ATTACKS Black bears are shy and normally avoid
people. Human attacks are rare. Still one should not get too close or feed them. They may become
protective if cubs are present and may bluff intruders with fake charges. When hiking it is a good idea
to announce your presence by making noise. If you encounter a standing black bear, it is not
threatening you. It is trying to get more information about you and your intentions. The best defense is
to back out of the area slowly. In parks such as Yosemite National Park in California, black bears are

Impact Of The Enlightenment Ideas On The American Revolution
If the Enlightenment thinkers never shared their inspiring government and political ideas, it is
expected that the United States would be extremely different then it is today. The Enlightenment was a
time when many new ideas on the freedom of people, how governments should be ran, and how
people should be involved in government decisions were introduced. The people who majorly voiced
these ideas were John Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, Rousseau, and Adam Smith. Primary views that
all these leading Enlightenment thinkers proposed, were the separation of powers, checks and
balances, the Social Contract, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, that government is separate
from economy, and natural rights. When Enlightenment ideas started to spread, many groups of people

Types of Grand Nursing Theorists
There are a multitude of grand nursing theorists and theories available to nurses for the
use of knowledge and adaptation into practice. The four categories of grand theory include
needs, interaction, outcomes, and caring. Each type of grand nursing theory has its own unique
concepts, definitions, and proposition, with the purpose of assisting and bettering a patient s
well being. Even with the same focus, each theory and corresponding theorist is much different
in regards to the approach in which the theory plans to achieve that goal. The following text will
discuss four particular grand theorists and their theories, as well as a synopsis of which which
theorist is most congruent with my personal philosophy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through this process, human beings, both patients and nurses can
find their own meaning. The nurse must accept the patient as they are currently, but also as what
they have the potential in becoming. (Meleis, 2012, p. 173) The concept of caring is central
within the nursing profession and practice. Without thinking about it, nurses care deeply for their
patients, and in return, find meaning every day.
After reviewing the four previously mentioned grand nursing theorists, I believe Imogene
King s views and philosophy of nursing is most congruent with my personal ideas regarding nursing.
Without the process of setting goals, a nurse is unable to gauge or know where their
patients care is headed. When nurses, such as myself, set mutually agreed upon goals for their
patients, they can evaluate progress, as well as plan ahead in the patient s care. I make a personal
point to make at least one obtainable goal with the help of my patient or their family to work
towards during my twelve hour shift. I also use my employer s care planning tool to judge the
patient s progress towards that goal. Without goals, the nurse patient relationship runs the risk of
becoming stagnant, resulting in a decrease of independence and the possibility of longer hospital
stay.

What Does It Mean To Say That The Father And The Son Are...
The road is about the journey of a son and a father to the south in a post apocalyptic world. They go
through many hardships, like starvation, cannibals coming after them and being homeless in extreme
weather.Through it all they still stay the good guys by keeping their humanity in tact.I believe that the
father and the son are good guys because they carry the fire, they don t eat people and they help people
out.I think they will always be the good guys and will eventually find a lot of good guys and resurrect
the earth, and restore it to it glory. They carry the fire inside them. The fire is a symbol of hope and
humanity. The boy is good, trusting and caring. He wants to help everyone he can, he definatly has the
firs in him. They are the hope for humanity and morals.Instead of taking the easy way out by killing
themselves or eating people, They scrong for food or go without. They also do not eat people. The fire
is something that not many people have then, which is why he asked the guy if he carried the fire at

The Control Of Power In The Pyramids
Power has been a constant source throughout the centuries. It was seen by the Egyptians who forced
slaves to create the pyramids. The Greeks who believed Gods controlled their everyday life, and
constantly feared their own fate. Monarchies that conquered different nations to claim more territory.
There is always a reason behind the control of power, but only the ones who hold the power can see it.
Recently the power has shifted from obvious control of people to surveillance and manipulation.
Power can be changed when all of the information is seen. This movie shows many scenarios that
makes it an allegory to the power that is held in the modern world. This involves manipulation,
technology, enclosure and creating an option of choice. The characters get to choose the way they die
from six different options. None of them are better than the other, but this is the choice they have ...

The only time that the highest order is seen is in the end of the film when the power has been

person who is able to survive while still having a sacrifice. She is now able to choose her fate. Or at
least that is what the lady tells her. She manipulates Dana into deciding to kill her friend in order to
save the world. She sees the reason behind the actions, and automatically agrees with the
conversation. It is not until she is attacked by the werewolf that she recognizes it was not her choice,
but instead manipulated through the conversation. This appears to be the only way the highest power
believed that they were able to ensure the wanting result. To actually explain the reasons behind the
action to the person who can survive. Upper management predicted incorrectly and were unable to see

The Perfect Murder Alfred Hitchcock Rhetorical Techniques
Alfred Hitchcock Presents The Perfect Murder : A Rhetorical Analysis In The Perfect Murder, from
Alfred Hitchcock Presents is a black and white television series aired from 1955 to 1962. It is a story
about two brothers, Paul and Henri, they are trying to come up with the perfect plan to get their
inheritance from their recently deceased uncle, by any means necessary. The only thing stopping them
is their perfectly healthy and stubborn Aunt Rosalie. Aunt Rosalie is very perceptive, stubborn, and
not fooled by anyone. She is on to the devious schemes of her not so trustworthy nephews. This
episode is filled with deception, betrayal, and greed and weaves a wonderful tale about how people
almost get away with what they deserve. This story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henri is one of the two nephews of the rich uncle who recently passed away. From time to time he
does a short narration of the film. The story begins in the house of late uncle with the reading of his
will and continues throughout the rest of the film. The rest of the story tells about the relationship
between the two brothers, Paul and Henri, and the newly widowed and rich old Aunt Rosalie.
Considering the movie was made during 1956 the content and them are consistent with the time frame
and geared toward an adult audience that are fans of mystery movies. It has an awesome ending twist
and illustrates, quit nicely, that you always get what you deserve. The sole purpose of this file is to
deliver that message. The tone however is very inconsistent throughout the film. When the film begins
it is very gloomy and dark because of the death of their uncle. It soon shifts into the plan of the two
brothers and the tone becomes suspicious and the music is very mysterious. Once Paul begins to lay
his deceptive relationship on Aunt Rosalie the tone changes again and becomes cheerful and happy
and shows Rosalie being deceptive by allowing Paul to act as if he had good intentions knowing all to

The Rationale For The Choice Of Title Essay
1.0 Title and the Rationale for the Choice of Title The title of this training program is Say No to
Sexual Harassment . Sexual harassment means undesirable or unwelcome sexual conduct which
makes people feel annoyed, embarrassed or scared (University of Minnesota 2015). Normally, female
employees are most likely to be the pity victims of sexual harassment. However, male employees can
be the victims too. Appendix 5 shows the snapshot of statistics about sexual harassment in the
workplace.
For most female today, it is important to get a job in order to be successful and independent women. It
is a transformation from past decades. The amount of female employees in the workplace is getting
more and more. In Malaysia, female employees consist of 38.60 % of total labor force in 2013. By
comparing to 1990, involvement of women in the workplace has increased 1.1% (Trading Economics
2015). Appendix 6 shows the percentages of female workforce in the workplace in Malaysia in
different years. Since involvement of women in the workplace is getting more and more, we believe
that sexual harassment against female employees will increase.
The aim of this training program is to help trainees understand sexual harassment more in the
workplace. Sexual harassment is part of the sex discrimination (Australian Human Rights Commission
2015). Sexual harassment in the workplace becomes a common issue in this world. Therefore, sexual

Different Types of Intellectual Property Rights
Patents are legal titles granting the owner the exclusive right to make commercial use of an invention.
To qualify for patent protection, inventions must be new, non obvious, and commercially applicable.
The term of protection is usually limited to 20 years, after which the invention moves into public
domain. The patent system is one of the oldest and most traditional forms of IPRs protection. Almost
all manufacturing industries make use of the patent system to protect inventions from being copied by
competing firms. Since the early 1980s, patents have also been granted for agricultural biotechnology
products and processes and for certain aspects of computer software.
As an adjunct to the patent system, some countries have introduced utility models (or petty patents).
The novelty criteria for utility models are less stringent and are typically granted for small,
incremental innovations. Their term of protection is far shorter than for regular invention patents
(typically four to seven years). Similarly, industrial designs protect the ornamental features of
consumer goods such as shoes or cars. To be eligible for protection, designs must be original or new.
They are generally conferred for a period of five to fifteen years.
Trademarks are words, signs, or symbols that identify a certain product or company. They seek to
offer consumers the assurance of purchasing what they intend to

  • 2. Geography Matters People all around the world have different ways of living. When authors write their books they often use geography as a big part of the meaning behind the story. Although many stories have a bigger meaning than just the geography the way the characters are brought up or how and where they lived can really have an effect on their future. Writers use setting to develop a text by exaggerating the setting and stating events that happened in a certain setting and it can really interest and help the reader along with the story. Geography matters a lot in a story because it can really point the reader in the direction of understanding and paying close attention to the story. For example in the story Geography Matters , in one of the books The Old Man and the Sea it can only take place in the Caribbean but mainly around Cuba. This story is very popular mainly because of the geography and setting the author takes into consideration the culture of Cuba and makes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost everyone was extremely religious and sinning was a big crime. People of this town knew what was tolerated and what was not but some of them did not follow these rules for example Abigail Williams she was having an affair with John Proctor and was connecting with witches in the woods. Rev Parris who was the father of Betty Parris the little girl who was in a possessed like state knew Abigail was up to something but didn t want his reputation getting destroyed since he was a big part of the Church like when Rev Hale asked him if he permitted dancing and Rev Parris quickly said, no, no it were secret (Miller 38). Abigail developed from the setting of The Crucible by towards the end of the story she finally admitted that she was connecting with the witches despite what everyone in the town would think of her. The setting also helped Rev Parris because he came to the realization that the girls were telling the truth and that he had to believe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The War Of The Roses And Ends With Last English Covering a period which starts with the Hundred Years War already in full swing, contains the start of the Wars of the Roses and ends with last English king to die in battle the level of participation of the aristocracy and the roles which they fulfilled is a natural continuation of the topic, especially given how kings can be lauded or vilified for their participation or non participation in military matters but it was the nobility who functioned as military commanders or otherwise notable figures in the battles who had much greater military command, often give entirely to their discretion. Whether the role changed drastically during the hundred and fifty year period is debatable, as it what would constitute a drastic change and how it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were fewer high level aristocrats who went along with the Black Prince s chevauchee s in France during the early 1350 s and more Knights of the Garter, which was an honour often bestowed on those who came from minor nobility but who rode with the Black Prince. However the first expedition in the period involved the Earls of Warwick, Oxford and Stafford as well as a number of knights and each of the three earls was placed in charge of a battalion and, rather than fighting any French they instead sacked the town of Languedoc. The next was 1359 60 where far more nobles, the Earls of Northampton, Warwick, Oxford, Suffolk and the Duke of Lancaster although all bar the Earl of Suffolk were dead by 1361. The amount of higher aristocracy The Battle of Agincourt had the Dukes of Gloucester and York present who were given command of sectors which suggests a continuing role for the aristocracy in battles. K.B McFarlane talks about professional military contractors meaning the upper aristocracy with earls being the most numerous military leaders and, although he admits that the course of war allowed the odd man from the gentry to distinguish himself it was ... Hi Judith I texted, GABIE did you see what happened Judith said. I got so confused I told her Wait, what happened, I am confused . DID YOU NOT SEE IT, PLL IS OVER she put a mad emoji. • 5. The Hunger Games Movie Analysis In the following film, The Hunger Games directed by Gary Ross, it focuses primarily on the protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers to partake the Hunger games tribute that occurs once a year. Every year in each district, each of the two members of each gender is selected to fight the annual Hunger Games. Katniss intends to be the center of attention of this film, which gives the audiences a better insight of the movie, also revealing additional themes that the author is trying to convey. At first sight, this movie may seem it s about killing for entertainment purposes. Her mother started giving up and becomes mentally unstable due to her Husband s loss. Katniss continues to pull her family through the toughest moments after her father s death. Furthermore, Katniss s strong personality helped to keep her and her family alive. During the Hunger Games, Katniss is out on the battlefield hoping she will survive and declare victory. She uses a rope to climb on trees to decrease her risk of death and she was able to take advantage of the resources that were given to her. Katniss was able to demonstrate survival because of her ability to keep herself hidden from the enemy tributes. Although she s from a poor district, she was able to plan her moves intelligently and succeed at the end. Survival is a very important skill throughout Katniss s role because she wouldn t be alive without them. However, survival wouldn t have been brought up without mentioning the next important theme in the film. An essential theme that is politically and socially relevant to the film is the idea of rich versus poor. In Panem, the wealth is heavily represented as the governments and the game makers behind the Hunger Games. On the other hand, the citizens living in the Capitol represent the poor. In contrast, there is a huge disparity between the lives of the wealthly and the poor. Researchers believed that the alleviation of extreme poverty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Ecosystem Of The Chesapeake Bay The Ecosystem Introduction to Basic Geography Fig. 1.1 Scene in Fig. 1.1., the Chesapeake Bay is substantial in size; at roughly 64,000 miles, it contains roughly fifty rivers and thousands of streams and creeks. It encompasses parts of 6 states, including all of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bay is what is known as a watershed, an area that contributes to the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within the 64,000 square miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams and rivers, eventually making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States. The Estuary System An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward and ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the best and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique in nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans have attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. There productivity lies it the constant change that occurs from the conflicting flows of fresh and ocean water. Ocean and freshwater are measured largely based on salinity, or the level of parts of salt per thousand. Ocean water usually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Two miles above Fayette they cut the telegraph wire, and turning towards Port Gibson, proceeded about one mile, and then by a circuitous route reached the Union Church road, three miles east of Fayette. Proceeding in that direction, they halted at Mrs. W. Scott s about nine o clock at night and fed. • 8. Examples Of Euphemism In The Giver Lois Lowry s book, The Giver, illustrates a futuristic society in which a strict law is enforced and no citizen thinks of going against that law. There are no deviations from what is considered the normal. A large contribution to the creation of their perfect society is keeping the public unaware of things happening around them. Lowry helps create this perfect world by creating euphemisms in their everyday speech where the main purpose is keeping the public from completely understanding the whole truth. Not only did the euphemisms play a large part in the book, but also, the author s own personal experiences and events that occurred around the same time as the writing of the book helped to shape the book into what it is now. That instilled a sense of comfort or safeness (Telgen 169). By shutting out the different in her college dormitory all of the other girls felt a sense of comfort or safeness. This feeling they created is very similar to the feeling Jonas community creates by controlling the characteristics of their community and making sure that everything is the same and there are no outliers. Other memories that Lowry used to create The Giver that were not mentioned in her Newbery Acceptance speech were revealed in a book she wrote in 1998 called Looking Back: A Book of Memories. In her book she was able to correlate the quote, Lily, please hold still, Mother said again. Lily, standing in front of her, fidgeted impatiently. I can tie them myself, she complained. I always have. I know that, Mother replied, straightening the hair ribbons on the little girl s braids. • 9. Analysis Of The Book Little Red Cap By Angela Carter Fairytales subvert, challenge or reaffirm archetypal values through didactic lenses. The presence of universal themes allows for an examination of contextual shifts and by being malleable in nature, can be made relevant to different audiences. The Brothers Grimm s Little Red Cap , Angela Carter s The Company of Wolves and Tommy Wirkola s film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters all promote their hegemonic ideologies and as cultural artefacts extrapolate the contextual values of their time period. Carl Jung s theory of the Collective Unconscious ensures that each of these fairytale adaptations can retain their archetypal value and thus remain significant and relevant in contemporary circumstances. The Brother Grimm s 19th Century Fairytale, Little Red Cap reflects the hegemonies of its context through its cautionary justification. Grimm s work reflected the importance of German national cohesion under French occupation and the view towards foreigners as destructive usurpers. Little Red Cap was adapted for instructional purposes, specifically aimed at a children s audience. Initially in the tale, the subversion of Perrault s depiction of the girl is evident exemplifying her as a sweet little girl and the hyperbolic everybody loved her instantly on first sight demonstrates the engrained virtue of her youth. The instruction for Little Red Cap to not stray from the path foreshadows the inherent danger associated with a misguided venture. The symbolism of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How the Introduction of the Individual into a Non traditional Sport for His or Her Gender Affects that Individual and the Sport Itself A high school age boy makes the papers when he joins the girls varsity field hockey team at his high school. A woman is judged according to femininity rather than muscle mass in a body building competition. An African American is thought inferior to his white counterparts on the sports field. After all, I myself would have been surprised if a boy showed up on the field one day wearing a skirt like the rest of the team and expecting to play in the game. Part of the problem is that it is so uncommon. People are afraid of things that they ve never seen or done. Non traditional athletes in certain sports are partially unaccepted due to the fact that they are a first. This is part of the reason why Bev (from Pumping Iron II), was so unaccepted by the judges of the women s bodybuilding contest: the judges were disgusted by her muscularity. Images of muscular women... are disconcerting, even threatening... [she was a] threat to established values. (Holmlund 302) There is a first for everything, but firsts are always hard to accept and integrate into society. There was, for instance, a single female member of the wrestling team at my high school. It was something that we d all heard of happening at other high schools, but was never something that we d anticipated coming to our high school. She was seen as being strange: butch, unlady like, even ugly. I never gave her more than a thought because I felt the same. In this context however, of non traditional athletes in sports, I see how hard she must have worked to overcome the obstacle of being the social outcast due to her perceived peculiarity. Wrestling must have been something that she loved to do. If I can respect women like Martina Navratilova or Tony Stone for being pioneer women in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Snow Country In the novel Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata the theme of wasted effort is displayed throughout the novel many times, to label a person s actions such as Komako. Shimamura, the main character, implies the theme various times when people such as Komako will complete tasks that have no meaning behind them and he would consider them as being a waste of time and effort. Even though Shimamura believes that some of Komako s tasks have no purpose behind them, ironically their relationship grows stronger each time Komako completes a task that is labeled as wasted effort. The first time the theme wasted effort was mentioned in the novel was when Komako is having a conversation with Shimamura about her diary. While Komako and Shimamura talk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shimamura found out about these rumors because he was gossiping with the masseuse about Komako. These rumors made him feel like Komako was just selling herself short just to get money, which was portrayed to the reader when the narrator expresses Shimamura s thoughts after being told this complicated rumor: [...] the expression wasted effort again came into Shimamura s mind. For Komako thus to guard her promise to the end, for her even to sell herself to pay doctors bills what was it if not wasted effort? (Kawabata 61). This example of Shimamura s thoughts portrays to the reader that he has feelings for Komako and that he does not think that she should spend her time doing things that is not worth her while just for money, especially if the man is dying. It s portrayed to the reader that Shimamura cares about Komako when the narrator explains an action that Shimamura will pursue in the future: He would accost her with this fact, he would drive it home, when he saw her again, he said to himself; and yet her existence seemed to have become purer and cleaner for this new bit of knowledge (Kawabata 61 62). This illustrates to the reader that Shimamura would rather go to Komako about the rumor to see if it is really true, rather than believing what other people say and spread the rumor even more. This action is portrayed when Shimamura asks Komako about the rumor and she asks him did he believe it, and he said: I couldn t quite believe all of it (Kawabata 67). This shows Komako that she can have some trust in Shimamura because he came to her first, and got the real truth. This part in the book also portrays how Komako and Shimamura grew in their relationship, because they now have trust between them which is an important key in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. How Vacation Is A Good Time Going on vacation is a way to relax, reduce stress, and spend time with my family. The different cultures, places, and laughs that we experience on vacations are truly memorable. When I was younger, my sister and I would take vacations with my grandparents. On these road trips, we would go hiking, go to water parks, and have picnics. On every trip, either someone was embarrassed or injured. When I was 8 or 9 years old, I was afraid that my grandpa was seriously hurt on one of our trips. Ultimately, on most of our adventures, we all had a laugh and a good time. Although it s important to take vacations and trips with my family, we should remember to be safe and smart, have a good time, and make vacations memorable. We were on our way to a park called Turkey Run, in Indiana, with trails, a water park and picnic areas. We stopped at a gas station with lots of treats and a McDonalds with a Play Place. At the time, my sister and I loved to play in the jungle gyms after we ate at McDonalds. The vehicle that we drove down to the park was a conversion van that had a toilet, a bed, and a sink. We stayed in the van during the nights, while we were on vacation, instead of going to a hotel or staying in tents. We either slept in a pull out bed, on the floor, or between the two front seats. If you go camping, you usually build a fire to sit around at night. Have you ever wondered why a marshmallow cooks without touching the flame, why the smoke rises, or why water in a pan boils? Heat can move from one object to another in three different ways: conduction, convection and radiation. Some sources of heat may include the following: the sun, friction, and the earth. Life on earth depends on the sun. The sun provides heat/light for the entire solar system. A person could generate a fire by rubbing two sticks together. The Earth contains much heat seep inside. As stated before, thermal conductor occurs when particles of warmer matter bump into particles of cooler matter and transfer some of their thermal energy to the cooler particles. Conduction is usually faster in certain solids and liquids than in gases. Returning to the example of a camp fire; what happens if you use an old metal hangar to roast hot dogs? As the hot dogs cooks, the fire heats the end of the hanger. If we leave the hanger in the fire long enough, eventually the end we are holding will become too hot for us to handle. The flames to the metal were transferred by the heat, and then from molecule to molecule in the hanger. Now, what would have happened if you had chosen a stick to roast your hot dog? Though the stick may have caught fire, it would not have conducted the heat to your hand. This is because wood is a very poor heat conductor. Heat insulators are materials that do not let heat move through them easily. They do not conduct heat well. Plastic, wood and some fabrics are good thermal insulators. Thermal insulators are good at keeping heat out and keeping heat in. A winter scarf is a good example of a thermal insulator. It stops the heat from your body escaping into the cold air. For fear that a skilled player will be hurt and unable to play, an enforcer will take matters into his own hands. As a result, skilled players feel protected and can do their job of scoring goals more effectively. All things considered, fighters are there for protection, not violence. Fighting as part of the game reduces injuries drastically. At the present time, fighting in the NHL is being heavily debated and there are two very different sides to the argument. In the meantime, with the stricter regulations against fighting, NHL injuries are at an all time high. My coach, Kelly Chase a retired NHL enforcer says that with concussions being such a focus in sports, only 2% of the ones in the NHL are caused by fights. The other 98% are caused by dirty hits. Convergence and International Corporate Governance Find and summarise (in no more than 1000 words) some of the work that has been done by Katherine Pistor and others on Convergence, Divergence and ‘Path Dependency of legal systems as it relates to International Corporate Governance. In recent years the issue of corporate governance has become a keenly debated topic in international finance. In developed countries, some of the biggest corporate collapses in history have brought about a change in focus. Thus the rules which have helped these corporations to prosper will be perpetuated. This in turn makes the interest group stronger and allows for continued divergence. Bebchuk and Roe accept that there are other reasons for the huge differences between countries legal systems. The size of the economy and the nature of business therein must play a part in the types of governance systems created. Cultural differences must also affect the laws, at a more fundamental level. Conclusion In 2000 Katarina Pistor wrote a paper which examined convergence/divergence issue in transition economies. She concluded that a simple convergence story does not do justice to the complexity of legal change (Pistor 2000, pp. 27). On of the key issues raised in this paper was that legal convergence in transition economies is mainly because of an external supply of legal solutions, and not as a result of the adaptation of successful strategies. Another point was that in many countries, it appeared that systems were developed in response to problems and not with a long term goal in mind. In general, it is clear that neither the convergence or divergence models, tell us the whole story. Whilst some level of convergence has been observed, the persistence of divergence is undeniable. Without thinking about it, nurses care deeply for their patients, and in return, find meaning every day. After reviewing the four previously mentioned grand nursing theorists, I believe Imogene King s views and philosophy of nursing is most congruent with my personal ideas regarding nursing. Without the process of setting goals, a nurse is unable to gauge or know where their patients care is headed. When nurses, such as myself, set mutually agreed upon goals for their patients, they can evaluate progress, as well as plan ahead in the patient s care.
