The Stonewall Riots In The 1980 s
When people think of the 1980 s the first thoughts that many have in mind is that of music, movies,
and technology that has helped shaped the present. Unfortunately, just like this longing for the 1980
s as something remarkable is limited to those that did not have to struggle through the AIDS
epidemic or those that did not had to watch their friends, family, or loved ones die. The LGBTQ+
community faced struggles once it became apparent that AIDSwas killing people, which runs
counter to the ideology that the 1980 s were full of nostalgia.
The LGBTQ+ community had fought for rights throughout history so that they would be able to
live normal lives. By the end of the 1960 s the Stonewall riots created a movement that inspired

The Metaphysic Of Abstract Particulars
Introduction: In this paper I will present the arguments for tropes and their distinction from
universals and particulars as presented by Keith Campbell in his paper The Metaphysic of Abstract
Particulars. I will then present a counter argument to Campbell s evaluation and provide possible
responses to those arguments. I will also provide possible adjustments Campbell could make to
create a more sound argument.
Campbell s Argument:
Since Plato, two mutually exclusive yet essential categories of reality have been posited, one of
concrete particulars and the other being abstract universals. Particulars are unproblematic, but
universals may be entirely extant in many positions with no influence on the universal itself. A
particular distinguishing mark is that is exhausted in the one embodiment, or occasion, or example.
(Campbell 298) Particulars are unproblematic because they are restricted to a single point at any
given time, not like universals which exist in different locations and are wholly present in those
instances. The number of examples which contain the abstract universals are not diminished in
quality of the universal. Campbell posits that this problem can be alleviated if properties were not
universal at all. There is a distinction between abstract and concrete which differs from the
distinction between universals and particulars. This is because particulars and universals can both
be abstract where only particulars can be concrete. The particulars that

The Narrative Of Beowulf By William Shakespeare
Lines 1214 1241 are important to the narrative of Beowulf drawing on such themes as legacy and
loyalty. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the torque as A collar, necklace, bracelet, or similar
ornament consisting of a twisted narrow band or strip, usually of precious metal, worn especially
by the ancient Gauls and Britons.
Gold and wealth is described at length in Beowulf, suggesting that it has a large significance in
Scandinavian culture. It is often given by kings to their tribes to ensure loyalty from their
people , and also to demonstrate their successes in battle. Here Wealhtheow offers this torque to
Beowulf, asking him to take delight (1216) in it, and to wear it for luck (1217). This suggests
Wealhtheow is distracting Beowulf from King Hrothgar s desire to adopt him as a son, and
entreating him to simply accept the status of warrior by offering him a reward of gold. She also
uses prolepsis to predict a future for Beowulf, further ensuring that he is not dissatisfied with his
position as a warrior Be acclaimed for strength, for kindly guidance/ to these two boys, and your
bounty will be sure (1219 1220). This also is transitional, bringing in past victories and tying
them to future ones, showing Beowulf a picture of his future legacy. He has already won renown
and is known to all men (1221), and ought to be reassured that he has achieved the glory he set out
to gain, without the further need to overshadow her sons. Here we can see that gold is

Gender Aspects Of Sex In Sex And The City
This blurring of gender norms, which would normally be seen as taboo is actually celebrated
and fully embraced in the context of the show. This is similar to what Sex and the City does in
the creation of Samantha Jones, one of the main characters of the show. Throughout the show
Sam is seen as the wildest and most sexually liberated character. She is a highly successful,
confident businesswoman who has sex like a man . Samantha defies popular gender norms by
unapologetically speaking her mind and truly having sex with no strings attached in a world in
which women are expected to be fragile prudish and depended on men in order to feel fulfillment.
The writers of Sex and the Citydo a wonderful job of presenting the kind of feminism that we are
likely to experience today. What that means is that unlike the feminism we see in Grey s
Anatomy in which equality is achieved, the experiences of the characters in Sex and the City and
the relationship of the main characters seem to be less of a fantasy and more of a reality. The
lives of the four main characters, Charlotte, Carrie, Miranda and Samantha and their relationships
serve as a representation of the different kinds of women that live amongst us today. On one end
we have the most traditional portrayal of women in network television, Charlotte York. Charlotte is
the most conservative and prudish one of the four women. As she says in the pilot of the show if
you want to get these guys you have to keep your mouth shut and

John New Brunswick. Munroe was noted to have said I wonder who will be the first poor bastard

In September of 1869 a few children were picking blueberries along Black River Rd, in saint John
New Brunswick. They stumbled upon the bodies of an adult female and infant that had been left
in this spot for over a year. No one seemed to know who they might be and police questioned a
man by the name of James Kane.
Although their investigation of Kane was dismissed, a coachman by the name of Robert Worden

In the late afternoon hours of June 24th 2014, 24 year old Jutin Bourque left his trailer park home
in Muncton New Brunswick, dressed in camflauge and carrying a rifle and shotgun. He strolled
down his street as if it were any other normal day, and was spotted by serveral neighbors.
The first call into 911 was made around 7:18pm of an armed man walking down Pioneer
Avetowards the woods on the wet end of the street. The RCMP responded immediately. Setting
up perimeters around the woods and neighborhood. Bourque had been spotted as he emerged
from the words, crossing the street and entering woods that boarded the backyards of several

officers shouted to him and Bourque opened fire at officer Frabice Gevaudan but missed. The
officer ran, radioing in that he was being shot at before being struck twice in the torso dying almost
immediately.
Justin ran and emerged southeast of McCoy street, continuing down Mailhot Avenue just two
minutes after killing Gevauden. Bourque was spotted by Cst. David Ross who opened fire on
Bourque from inside his vehicle. Ross shot twice while Justin retaliated with six shots. Hitting
Ross twice in the hand, and left shoulder and one fatal shot to the head. Spectator s believe that
Ross attempted to run Jutin down but failed. Cst. Eric White discovered Ross s body still behind

Essay about Peasant Lifestyle In DavisВґ The Return of...
The Return of Martin Guerre, written by Natalie Zemon Davis, is the tale of a court case that
takes place in sixteenth century France. Martin Guerre is a peasant who deserted his wife and
family for many years. While Martin Guerre is gone, a man named Arnaud du Tilh arrives at
Martin s village and claims to be Martin Guerre. Bertrande, who is Guerre s wife, Guerre s sisters,
and many of the villagers, accepts the imposter. After almost three years of being happily married,
Bertrande takes the fraud to court under pressure of Pierre Guerre, her stepfather and Guerre s
brother. Arnaud du Tilh is almost declared innocent, but the real Martin Guerre appears in the
courthouse. Throughout this tale, many factors of the peasantlife are... Show more content on

She states, so important were these family houses to Basque villagers that each was given a
name which the heir and his wife assumed (Davis 6). Davis is portraying how property had a
great importance for peasants of certain villages and how it was a major part of their lives.
Davis also mentions in the case of Sanxi that he could not have sold it easily if he had wanted
to, for the Fors that is, the customs of the Labourd prohibited the alienation of patrimonial goods
except in cases of dire necessity and then only with the consent of other interested kin (Davis 8).
Sanxi s lack of option to sell his property, unless given approval by other family who are
uninterested in the property, shows that in certain villages peasants were concerned with
maintaining their property within their family. Davis also contrasts this social norm of family
property with explaining the social norms when dealing with property in other villages. Sanxi
moved to new village called Artigat. It is stated, What was really different from the Basque
country was the way the land moved, both in inheritance and in sales. Here in the plain below
the Pyrenees there was very little effort among the common people to hold the family property
together (Davis 11). Davis is doing a successful job of portraying property as economic means but
also as a way of social standing. Davis also focuses on the different social levels apparent in peasant
life.

Western Influence on Kuwait
Kuwait and Western influence Over the past decades, Kuwait, like most Islamic countries have
practiced strict measures in terms of their governance system with lots of times the religious
aspect influencing greatly the kind of government in place and the type of governance that is used
within Kuwait. This resulted in a closed, less democratic, religious, stereotypical and generally
patriarchal society. This has however undergone a lot of change particularly with the embracing of
the Western culture that is more open, diverse and liberal in nature. Positives of western culture
interaction More democratic space Western culture has had far reaching effects on many aspects
of lives of the Kuwaiti in the sense that people have become more open minded and the society
has turned from suppressing the women, both domestically and socially, to embracing them and
liberating them to make choices and participate in social events like men do. Ladies currently
enjoy a lot of freedom with regard to what they put on and how they express themselves. Kuwaitis
have also adopted modern pop culture something that was unheard of in the past. They have
developed a sense of taste for whatever they buy, whatever they listen to, what they eat, watch, what
they do on their bodies, hair and teeth. It is paradoxical that when Kuwait gained her independence
from the United Kingdom in 1961, her citizens proclaimed liberation, when in actual sense there
was none of it. Women in particular had to

soon turns to anger when Tybalt appears and a fight is started. Romeo tries to interfere with the
fight and stop it, as he must feel guilty if anything should happen to Tybalt because he has just

agitated and angry until finally he totally loses control and stabs Tybalt to death. At this point
Romeo rejects all logic and becomes a revenge hero away to heaven respective lenity and fire

mild replies to Tybalt s taunting. When Mercutio is fatally stabbed, he still manages to retain his
sense of humour. His jokes in the face of death are dramatically effective. no, tis not so deep as a

The children that come out of slum backgrounds are potential menaces to society (Rose I. 21).

What Does It Mean To Be A Girl
It s a girl! Most parents fantasize about hearing those precious and promising words because soon a
little girl will make its way into their life and she will be sweet, innocent, and pure. Nothing will
hurt that child, but unfortunately those parents are blinded by the happiness of the moment and do
not realize that the little girlwill grow up and be worth less than her husband and she will be worth
less in society. In Merriam Webster s Unabridged Dictionary the word girl means a femalechild
from birth to adulthood, but in addition to this simple word there holds an immense amount of
meaning. Four letters and that s all it takes for someone to roll their eyes and laugh because that
word is linked to weakness, negativity, and obnoxious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a girl you are expected to break, but in reality girls have to pretend nothing will break them or
they will again be judged by society. This tends to be the case because if a girl breaks it will just
add fire to the sexist prejudices put upon them as a gender. In Serena Nanda s article Arranging a
Marriage in India, she talks about her research in India, when a son s parents are looking for a
wife for their son they have a very long list of expectations. She should be from the same caste
system, pretty, not too intelligent, meshes with the family well, doesn t stray from home, nor
does she gossip or call home a lot, and the most important thing is that she is pure before
marriage. Though these expectations tend to look somewhat different in the U.S. they have the
same ideas. A girl should be boxed in away from society and taking care of the children or
perhaps being a good cook to put it into simpler terms because that is what society unfairly tells
us a girl should be able to do. Serena also talks about how it is very important for a girl to protect
the family name and in no way ever disgrace it. If that girl does disgrace the family (for example
not staying pure) it is not uncommon for her brother or even cousin to murder her. Why is a
family s expectations based on what a girl does? These unrealistic expectations push girls too far
and cause us to think our worth is less because we cannot do it all, even though society thinks that s
the least we could

Compare And Contrast Anne Bradstreet And Edward Taylor
Anne Bradstreet and Edward Taylor are two poets who are puritans. They are able to use writing
and language to portray their ideas on G d and religion. Upon the Burning of Our House, July
10th, 1666 by Bradstreet and Huswifery by Taylor are similar in the sense that G d is always a part
of their poems, whether it s direct or through the use of complex writing. Through the use of
language and metaphors, Bradstreet conveys that a connection with G d could be strengthened
through destruction while Taylor reveals that a connection can be reinforced through creation.
Edward Taylor uses a housewife who is creating a garment from thread as a symbol of creating a
relationship with G d. Throughout the poem, the reader sees metaphors in the text that ... Show

At first she calls on G d to strengthen me in my distress (line 9). Then the narrator begins to
think that It was His own, it was not mine (like 17) which shows that she s beginning to accept
what happened. This was all in G d s plan; it was predetermined. The narrator goes on to say
Adieu, adieu, all s vanity (line 36). This is a very materialistic phrase. However, in the next stanza,
the narrator says that she is the one in the wrong for straying from G d. The realization of the
connection she has developed to material objects brings on a reflecting of how she ever strayed
from G d since there is nothing to count on except G d. In the last stanza, the narrator says, My
hope and treasure lies above (line 54). Everything that the narrator needs is in heaven. While she
may seem a little resentful, she is able to accept the destruction of her house and turn it into love
for G d. The idea of predestination makes an appearance again as the narrator knows that this is
what G d wanted. G d is all that she has left now since she lost all of her material wealth along with

Writing Style Reflection
In my first semester of college at Saint Leo University, seeing that I had to take and academic
writing class gave me chills. After taking high school English classes where you are constantly
writing for a grade and to please the teacher s idea of what good writing is, I couldn t help being
concerned about what a college level writingclass was going to be like. Teachers in high school
were constantly trying to tell you how to write their way and perfect what they thought was good
writing. Little did I know everyone s writing styleis good in its own way. This academic writing
class proved to me that no writing style is right or wrong, but instead all writing styles have their
own uniqueness and character to them. After reading the assigned articles and analyzing the
writing process and other topics discussed in this class, I now see writing as an extraordinary
process that is different for everyone. After writing papers and getting feedback, I saw where
my writing lacked solid evidence in my rhetorical analysis paper, and I also found certain ways I
can write more efficiently in my process analysis paper. I also learned how discourse
communities functioned and how genre is something completely different than what our K 12
teachers have taught me for so long. The goal of this class was to help me; see writing as a
process, adapt my ideation, revision and products to improve my writing, and develop my critical
reading, writing, and thinking skills. I believe I have achieved

Essay on Heroes in Western Film
Heroes in Western Film
In the genre of western films, the hero plays a key role. Humanity portrays civilization overcoming
the hostile country (Miller 66). In many films the American civil war is over, and people have
turned their attention to more constructive pursuits. Battling nature to progress America s future,
rather than each other. In between this wild country, fraught with danger and corruption lies the
role of the hero. A hero is an individual with exceptional skills and through his abilities is able to
rid a stricken town of the corrupt elements within. In many cases however, the hero s skills are not
enough. His relationship with the community can define how successful his help can be.
In the films Shane and Dodge City we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is for this reason he is incensed to defend the community from Ryker (Emile Meyer). He has
become personally involved with creating a community that he wishes to continue to see flourish;
even if his choice dictates that he has to leave in order to succeed.
Wade Hatton, (Errol Flynn) in Dodge City, is a much more extroverted hero than Shane, and has
greater plans to reform the town than merely just driving out the criminal element. Hatton s entry
to the film is also much more grand. He is a soldier of fortune transplanted to the American
frontier. (Abel 18). This alone creates the illusion of Hatton being a much more romantic hero and
having greater plans than merely just wanting to build a community. He wishes to clean out the
wickedness and lawlessness that Dodge City has become. To do this, he introduces sweeping
reforms that not only remove the criminal element, but also set a moral tone for the community.
This establishes him as a community leader who is willing to do whatever is necessary to curb
the violence and death that has stricken the town. He even arrests his friend Rusty (Alan Hart) for
carrying a gun to prove that no one is above the law.
People respect Hatton for who he is and what he has done for the community, not necessarily for
who he is as a person. This fact sets him apart from Shane. Hatton s actions are dictated by his own
morals and beliefs, (the desire to make the community safe for women and children )

Essay The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
On December 3, 2004, President Bush signed the Individuals with Disabilities Education
Improvement Act of 2004. This Act is also known as Public Law 108 446. The Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is the law that secures special education services for children
with disabilities from the time they are born until they graduate from high school. The law was re
authorized by Congress in 2004. This re authorization has driven a series of changes in the way
special educationservices are executed. These changes are continuing today and they affect special
education and related services across the United States.
There are several different purposes of IDEA. The first is to ensure that all children with

There are more purposes, but those will have to wait for another day.
While all children can be referred for evaluation for special education, not all are found to be
eligible. The student will be tested in all areas related to the child s assumed disability by the
multidisciplinary educational team. In order to be eligible for special education services, the child
s assume disability has to impact the child s ability to learn. Parents represent the child s interests.
They need to stay informed and involved in their child s education. IDEA of 2004 strengthened the
role, as well as the responsibility, of parents and ensures that they and their families have
opportunities to participate in their child s education. IDEA also protects the rights of parents by
ensuring that they can be members of the IEP teams. Parents can be involved in the evaluations and
placements of their children and have a say in what happens.
Not only are the students and parents affected, but also the teachers. In order for teachers to be
highly qualified, they must have a bachelor s degree and must prove their knowledge in the core
curriculum that they are teaching. They can prove their knowledge by passing the PRAXIS series
tests. Teaching standards have risen due to the research conducted involving the relationship
between the quality of teaching and low income

Why Should Citizens Be Able To Own Exotic Animals
Should Citizens be able to Own Exotic Animals? What exactly is an Exoctic animal ? An animal
that s isn t usually kept as a pet. For instance, a Lion, Scorpion, or even a Tarantula. No, citizens
should not be able to own exotic animals. I say this for many reasons, one of which is the simple
fact that these animals are far to dangerous for any person who isn t a zoologist to care for.
Exotic animals aren t domesticated, in other words, they are not tamed. That fact is what many
people fail to realize. They may think It ll be so cool to own a baby tiger. But what about when
that baby tiger is no longer a baby? Not to mention that these animals are time consuming and

Life Insurance Vs Estate Planning Essay
It is important to secure household wealth; this can be established through life insurance and

Most of your assets are to be distributed among children or family. Estate planning should be
taken care of before ones death rather than after. If nothing is setup then there is a probate court
that will distribute and properly execute to people or organizations, which is required by law. It is
recommended that your assets be set up as a nonprobate property. Meaning that you have
distributed your assets by transfer to a designed beneficiary, transfer to property ownership
designation and transfer by payable death designation. Having a joint tenant in a property transfers
immediately to that person upon ones death and for payable on death designation allows for the
beneficiary to access funds immediately with proof of a death certificate. A will also establishes
what should be done with any remaining assets after death. This is done through a personal
representative that identifies ones assets, collects any money due and after that is established they
will pay off any debts and after filing income tax distributes it with the permission of the court.

property laws that state that the surviving spouse owns half of everything acquired during the

Descriptive Essay About Summer Break
Our First Dinner
This morning, my cousins arrived at my house. Since then, the place has been bustling with noise,
and there has been a lot of shoving and roughhousing. Currently, we are getting ready for dinner.
Let me backtrack. Yesterday, my aunt called our house to ask my mom if she and her kids could
visit. For a week. My mother agreed, albeit reluctantly. We then cleaned the house and stocked
up on food. My aunt and uncle have four kids, and my parents have three. So a lot of people in
one house. To top it all off, it s the first week of summer break. Like I said, at the moment the
house is in chaos with everyone carrying food, utensils, and chairs around the kitchen. We are
getting ready for our first meal together. We went out for lunch so we didn t have to worry about
making food. Now we do. Since most of us kids don t know how to cook, we got pushed into the
basement. So we are playing games while we wait for the adults to get done with the food. We
fight, we shove, and we punch. My family is really rough, so when we get together, you can
almost guarantee that there will be fighting. After what feels like hours, we hear my mom yell,
Kids, the food s ready! We all immediately stampede up the stairs, trying to beat each other to the
kitchen. Once we get there, we all fight over seats before we finally get settled. My uncle says
Grace and we all dig in.
So, how has everyone s summer been so far? my aunt questions. We reply with mumbles of Good
and Boring .

Abstract. Anabolic Androgenic Steroids Are Ergogenic...
Abstract
Anabolic Androgenic Steroids are ergogenic resources commonly used by athletes in search of
better achievement performances. However, the use of these substances by non athletes, for
aesthetic purposes, have become a growing problem in gyms and sports centers. This conduct has
favored the indiscriminate and abusive use of these steroids, exposing its users to health risks.
Anabolic steroids are a subset of androgens, namely, synthetic compounds derived from testosterone
, developed for therapeutic purposes. But these substances also have been used in sports, with the
objective of improvement in physical performance, due to its great anabolic and reduced
androgenic effect property. Therefore, these anabolic properties promote the... Show more content

Testosterone exerts effects as androgenic and anabolic in an extensive variety of target tissues,
including the reproductive system, the central nerve system, anterior pituitary gland, kidney, liver,
muscles and heart (Hebert et al., 1984; Shahidi, 2001; Sinha Hikim et al., 2002). The Androgenic
effects are responsible for the growth of the male reproductive tract and development of secondary
sexual characteristics, while the anabolic effects stimulate nitrogen fixation and increase protein
synthesis (Shahidi, 2001). The anabolic activity of testosterone and its derivatives is manifested
primarily in your mycotrophic action, resulting in an increase to muscle mass by increasing the
protein synthesis in the muscle (Kam, Yarrow, 2005) and by controlling body fat levels.
The potential therapeutic value of anabolic activity of testosterone in various catabolic conditions
have led to the synthesis of many derivatives which aims to prolong its biological activity,
developing products ever less androgenic and more anabolic, called androgenic anabolic steroids.
Therefore, anabolic steroids are a subset of androgens, namely synthetic testosterone derivatives,
(Kam, Yarrow, 2005).
Anabolic steroids were first developed for therapeutic purposes, as an example, for the treatment of
patients with natural androgen deficiency, on surgeries recovery, muscle atrophies by improving
nitrogen balance in catabolic states, preventing the loss of lean body mass and reducing the growth

The Effects Of Sleep On Insomnia And Vagal Activity 14...
Sleep can be effected in a number of different ways whether it is by the environment, your
thoughts, or your pre sleep routine, there are multiple factors involved. Many people have their
own techniques that work well for them and some doctors have recommendations of their own.
One tried and true technique for falling asleep is by utilizing different breathing exercises or
simply focusing on the breath. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effectiveness of
breathing techniques on sleep. In a study used to determine the efficacy of paced breathing on
insomnia and vagal activity 14 people with self reported insomnia (SRI) and 14 people who
reported to be good sleepers (GS) were utilized to test the hypotheses that paced breathing would
aid those with insomnia in falling asleep (Tsai, Kuo, Lee, Yang, 2014). The study measured
variables such as sleep quality, sleep effectiveness, Heart rate variability, and cardiac vagal tone.
For the individuals to be allowed in the SRI group they had to have difficulty falling asleep,
staying asleep, or trouble with waking up too early and not being able to go back to sleep more
than 3 times per week, for 6 continuous months. All subjects of the study had to be between 20
25 years old and have a BMI within the normal range for their height and weight (18.5 24.5 Kg

having any history of sleep disorders such as sleep apneaor periodic limb

This method may have been sufficient in the 10th century when people were illiterate and

Science is a powerful study, aiding us in understanding the complex process life and the absence

uncovering the truth and more notably providing a sense of closure for the loved ones of the

The Tokugawa era: A country of tranquility With all the struggle the Japanese went though, they

significant to the Tokugawa era because they reflected what was going on during that period,

Introduction On January 18th, 2003 at 6:38 in the morning, a cirrus SR 22 aircraft crashed near the

However, in the case of Glorvigen V. cirrus Design Corp, the estate of the deceased argued that it
was the inherent duty of the manufacturer to provide adequate safety training as a part of the
requirement for duty to warn, prior to the execution of flight practices.
Analysis
As it stands currently in the United States, a manufacturer may be held liable for any harm their
product causes due to defect, even without being in privity of contract with the buyer. Additionally,
the stance on negligence in the United States has changed from being bases solely on the theories
of negligence, breach of contract, or breach of warranty concurrent with national shift towards
strict liability in tort. This case does well do demonstrate that we recognize the duty of either
suppliers to manufacturers to give adequate instruction, but the question now arises whether or not
it is the inherent duty to also train intended users in the safe operation of the product by the
manufacturer or supplier. In the state of Minnesota where the mishap aircraft originated from, the
duty to warn is applied in the following way; The manufacturer has a duty to warn end users of a
dangerous product if it is reasonably foreseeable that an injury could occur in its use (Gary v.
Badger Mining Corp, 2004). The entailment of this duty is seen as giving adequate instruction unto
the safe use of said product, but ultimately leaves

Precautions used during administration of potassium contain solution to prevent injury or death
Potassium regulation in the body is impetrative to our body s homeostasis. Small fluctuations in
the normal potassium blood levels can be dangerous. Should an individual require potassium

followed when administering medications. (Ignatavicius, 2013, pg. 185) Potassium is available in

The Growing Concern on Food Safety
There is growing concern about food safety and especially about inputs of pathogenic
microorganisms
with possible implications for human health and the environment [1]. Microbial activity is a primary
mode of deterioration of many foods and is often responsible for the loss of quality and safety.
Concern
over pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms in foods is increasing due to the increase in
outbreaks of
foodborne disease [2]. It has been estimated that as many as 30% of people in the industrialized
countries
suffer from food borne diseases each year caused by microbes [3]. Food additives have been used
for centuries in the food processing practices for several purposes including the prevention of
microbial
growth and increase in the food shelf lives [4]. Due to the excessive use of food preservatives
which some
of them are doubtful to be carcinogenic and teratogenic and also increasing consumer demand to
natural
foods with a long shelf life and without chemical preservatives, food producers trend to replace
chemical
preservatives with natural forms such as oils and herbal extracts as antibacterial additives [5, 6].
In the recent years, efforts have been devoted to find new antimicrobial materials from natural
resources
for food preservation [7]. Reports indicated that many extracts and essential oils of edible plants had
properties to prevent against a wide range of fungal contamination of foods [5, 7, 8, 9, 10].

Film Analysis Of The Awakenings
There are always losses to each pleasant situation and unfortunately in the 1990 film directed by
Penny Marshall, Awakenings, this theme appears throughout. In a chronically ill hospital where

patients that are in a sleep like state including Mr. Leonard Lowe. Set in the late sixties, there were
not many medical advances that already existed to help these patients but Dr. Sayer makes unheard

knows nothing about being thrown at him which makes the doctor very nervous and detached from
his safe lifestyle. One patient in particular interests Sayer named Leonard. Going through tests and

child rearing technique they use on a child to improve their child talents. The middle class parents
use this technique to schedule activities for their child. Parents also practice language with their
child. Middle class parents let their child find agreement with them. Lareau states that middle class

Essay about Infection Control
Nosocomial infections refers to infections acquired during hospitalization, with symptoms usually
occurring within forty eight hours after admission. The origin of nosocomial infections can be
attributed to the following: Bacterial flora already present in the patient; Microorganisms from the
environment through transmission from: carriers colonized at admission, admitted to wards
without undergoing surveillance, isolation or eradication of the germ(s); patients who have
developed the infection but who have not been isolated;contact with contaminated objects and
surfaces; medical personnel, usually via their hands; invasive procedures such as the installation or
maintenance of a device(1). The current probability of infection in... Show more content on

The increase in infection related health activity is the result of a gradual increase in specific
risk factors such as antibiotic pressure and the greater complexity of patients conditions. Despite
their strong impact, both socially and economically, the surveillance systems and programs
currently deployed for the prevention of nosocomial infections are quite dishomogeneous and,
in many situations, do not exist at all. There are two main discriminating factors in this critical
situation. The first relates to the chronic lack of funds for a serious policy of prevention,
particularly in terms of an effective screening process. The second concerns the lack of accurate
knowledge and widespread awareness on the part of health care operators who are apparently
unable to see the problem, in its complexity, as a factor that impacts on all health care processes,
be that at regional or hospital level. Another crucial element to consider is the emergence of
bacterial strains resistant to antibiotics, given the widespread use of these drugs as a prophylactic
or a therapeutic regimen. Main Body i) How MRSA relates to the disease symptoms Non specific
resistance, to an invading organism, or pathogen, is a defence mechanism the body employs to
protect itself from attack (Tortora and Grabowski 1996). Inflammation, response to bacterial
invasion, occurs due to release of chemicals in the bloodstream

Richard Muhlfeld s His Quintet For Clarinet, 2 Violins,...
In his Quintet for Clarinet, 2 Violins, Viola, and Cello Op. 115, Brahms creates an important and
influential work in the chamber music repertoire. By writing his Quintet for the specific clarinetist
Richard MГјhlfeld s artistic brilliance, and by taking musical liberties with conventional forms and
expectations, Brahms crafts the intimacy and seriousness one has come to expect from chamber
music. Towards the end of his life, Brahms had intended on retiring from composing. Around 1891,
the Meiningen orchestra, with whom Richard MГјhlfeld held his career with, frequently featured
Brahms s music at well known festivals in the area. Previous to meeting MГјhlfeld, Brahms had no
interest in centering his writing onto the clarinet. He felt the... Show more content on

The Joachim Quartet concerts were known for being a major series performing strictly string
chamber music. Brahms had convinced Joachim with his manuscripts that the work was worthy of
the sacrifice of adding clarinet and piano to the series. The highly regarded reputation of the
Joachim concerts certainly allowed for the seriousness of the Quintet to be featured, for all of the
cleaver composition techniques Brahms employed were certainly appreciated by the intellectual
audiences the Quartet frequently attracted. The Quintet follows the general guidelines for form that
audiences of the time have come to expect from serious string chamber music pieces. The first
movement acts as a Sonata form with some unexpected variation, the second as a three part song
form. The third and fourth movements begin to some unconventional practices. In the third, instead
of a scherzo movement in 3/4 time, we get a sonata allegro in 4/4 and 2/4 time. In the fourth, the
audience gets a theme and variations, but the tempo is considerably slower than what one would
normally expect from a concluding movement. In 1891, the only memorable clarinet quintet was
composed by Mozart. If one were to come into a performance of the Brahms Quintet with Mozart s
Quintet in mind, they would expect the clarinet to take the most important role, with the strings
accompanying more often than not. This is certainly not the case in Brahms s work, as the

Ethnic Conflict Of The Soviet Union
Ethnic Conflict
With a long stemming past of ethnic conflict within Yugoslavia, the country at long last
disassembled over what historians would argue was The bloodiest war in Europe since World War
II (Multi Ethnic Conflict: Yugoslavia.). Yugoslavia was a country composed of six republics The
socialist republic of Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia, and Slovenia.
The country was created after world war one in 1929 and was under the control of the Soviet Union
up until 1991 when the Soviet Union broke apart. With the fall of the Soviet Union came the
inevitable turmoil, violence and destruction within Yugoslavia the country began to fall apart.
Ethnic conflict had been the root of war and violence through out numerous countries all around the
world for centuries. The ethnic conflict of Yugoslavia was caused by differences in religion and
ethnicity, different perspectives on government and politics, and disagreements over territory.
Yugoslavia was just far too small for the different nationalities and government structures within it.
Yugoslavia has long suffered with problems concerning religion and ethnicity. There was always a
back and fourth tension between the ethnic groups. During the 1930s it became apparent that the
ethnic groups were unwilling to blend and merge together. The Serbs who made up about 40 percent
of the population dominated politics. The Croats and Slovenes resented Serbian aggressiveness.

Sex Offender Registry
Don t Be Ignorant: Educate Yourself
Dana Harmel
SOC 120 Introduction to Ethics amp; Social Responsibility
Professor York
January 21, 2012
The youngest person that can be place on the National Sex Offender Registry is age 6. Yes, a
kindergarten and be found to be a sexual predator as society puts it. Individuals on the registry are
all treated equal by the public no matter the details of their actual crime. Even though the sex
offender registry is a positive tool in the protection of society, the registry needs to be evaluated
because sexual assault is not the only form of child abuse, non violent offenders are on the registry,
and children are now required to register as offenders.

They brought R in for questioning and he was released. Later arrested again for statutory rape
and the mother (of the girl) came to defend him saying she knew and approved. He received a
year in jail and so did the mother. Ten years later was required to start registering and was given
life. He should not have been given a life sentence. He is a tier one offender and should only be
required to register for 15 years. Tier three individuals the most violent are required to register for
life. He is now 42 years old and is functioning however being on the registry has caused extreme
difficulty in getting jobs and being able to function without society opinions being forced upon
him. I just think that this story is one of many who are non violent and are lifelong registrants. All
crimes that a person is on the registry for are wrong; I just think that the non violent ones need to be
reviewed more thoroughly.
In contrast the deontology approach I think that a lot of people fall into the emotivism approach.
Emotivism is a non cognitive theory of ethics, because it denies, among other things, that moral
claims can appeal to facts. Rather, emotivism, as the name indicates, simply says that moral
claims express an emotional response, or an attitude, we may have toward a given kind of
behavior (Mosser, 2010). I think people hear the word sex offender and they think the person is
bad and has hurt a child. Their emotions and ignorance takes over. The

Gender Inequality Throughout The s The Middleton s ``...
In The Revenger s Tragedy, Middleton presents a look at gender inequality in the early 1600 s
through characters like the Duchess. He allows these characters a level of agency in which their
actions are either punished or rewarded depending on the socially acceptable rules established by
the patriarchal hierarchy in the play. Similarly, in Webster s Duchess of Malfi, a parallel
examination is made where the Duchess is given a certain degree of agency and is ultimately
killed for her actions in the play. Both Duchess in Middleton and Webster s plays, rebel against the
patriarchal hierarchy and are punished by the male characters in the plays. The treatment of women
in these plays constructs the ideal moral woman through inappropriately deemed actions. In The
Duchess of Malfi, the Duchess is presented as a widowwhose brothers end up determining her fate
by constructing rules for how she is to live. Ferdinand and the Cardinal both caution the Duchess
in the first act that marrying or engaging in a relationship again would tarnish her reputation. The
Cardinal is also skeptical of the Duchess resolve remarking, So most widows say, but commonly
that motion lasts no longer than the turning of an hourglass after the Duchess says she will never
marry again (Webster 1765). Ferdinand also displays skepticism by saying, And women like that
part which, like the lamprey, hath nev r a bone in t and enforces his remark by showing his sister a
dagger. The entire scene showcases the

The Effects Of Stress On Our Mental And Physical Health
As we learned in class, stress is any force that changes the body s natural state, known as
homeostasis. Stress does not always have to be viewed as a bad thing. For example, stress can
motivate someone to study for an exam or plan ahead in his or her agenda to stay organized. Its
only when stress manifest out of control and is not addressed properly that it can have very
negative effects on both our mental and physical health. Reflecting on the document we watched in
class, Stress: Portrait of a Killer, I was surprised to learn more about baboons correlating to human
beings stress management and how you position as individual in the hierarchy of life has in
effect on the levels of stress you may endure. In the documentary I learned a lot about how
dominant male baboons has lower stress levels which in turn, made these baboon relativity
healthier compared to their other members of their group. The baboons who had higher stress
levels also has high blood pressure, not as good immune system, and a poor reproductive system.
This just goes to show the position the baboons held in their hierarchy related to their health and
ultimately, their life span. This idea that stress is related to poor health and life expectancy is not
only true for baboons, but for human beings as well. I know from prior experiences when i get
stress I tend to get really sick. When the end of the semester comes around, I get overwhelmed with
papers, last minute assignments, and finals to study. I was

Introduction
The need for cheap and efficient means of travel coupled with the development of motor vehicles
has seen a rapid growth in the automotive industry. The automotive industry encompasses all the
companies and activities involved in the manufacture of motor vehicles, including most
components, such as engines and bodies (Encyclopædia Britannica, 2014). Even though much of
the manufacturing nowadays is done by robots, computers and machines, the strongest and most
luxurious vehicles are still considered to be the ones that have had the most human involvement
and effort applied on them. This makes simple tools such as the cordless hand drill necessitous in
the entire process because of their wide range of uses and applications which will be further
discussed in this report. Hand drills today, are used in almost every industry that involves
assembling individual components to make a complete structure however, this report will focus on
the design of a cordless hand drill specifically for the automotive industry.

  • 2. The Stonewall Riots In The 1980 s When people think of the 1980 s the first thoughts that many have in mind is that of music, movies, and technology that has helped shaped the present. Unfortunately, just like this longing for the 1980 s as something remarkable is limited to those that did not have to struggle through the AIDS epidemic or those that did not had to watch their friends, family, or loved ones die. The LGBTQ+ community faced struggles once it became apparent that AIDSwas killing people, which runs counter to the ideology that the 1980 s were full of nostalgia. The LGBTQ+ community had fought for rights throughout history so that they would be able to live normal lives. By the end of the 1960 s the Stonewall riots created a movement that inspired people of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. The Metaphysic Of Abstract Particulars Introduction: In this paper I will present the arguments for tropes and their distinction from universals and particulars as presented by Keith Campbell in his paper The Metaphysic of Abstract Particulars. I will then present a counter argument to Campbell s evaluation and provide possible responses to those arguments. I will also provide possible adjustments Campbell could make to create a more sound argument. Campbell s Argument: Since Plato, two mutually exclusive yet essential categories of reality have been posited, one of concrete particulars and the other being abstract universals. Particulars are unproblematic, but universals may be entirely extant in many positions with no influence on the universal itself. A particular distinguishing mark is that is exhausted in the one embodiment, or occasion, or example. (Campbell 298) Particulars are unproblematic because they are restricted to a single point at any given time, not like universals which exist in different locations and are wholly present in those instances. The number of examples which contain the abstract universals are not diminished in quality of the universal. Campbell posits that this problem can be alleviated if properties were not universal at all. There is a distinction between abstract and concrete which differs from the distinction between universals and particulars. This is because particulars and universals can both be abstract where only particulars can be concrete. The particulars that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Narrative Of Beowulf By William Shakespeare Lines 1214 1241 are important to the narrative of Beowulf drawing on such themes as legacy and loyalty. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the torque as A collar, necklace, bracelet, or similar ornament consisting of a twisted narrow band or strip, usually of precious metal, worn especially by the ancient Gauls and Britons. Gold and wealth is described at length in Beowulf, suggesting that it has a large significance in Scandinavian culture. It is often given by kings to their tribes to ensure loyalty from their people , and also to demonstrate their successes in battle. Here Wealhtheow offers this torque to Beowulf, asking him to take delight (1216) in it, and to wear it for luck (1217). This suggests Wealhtheow is distracting Beowulf from King Hrothgar s desire to adopt him as a son, and entreating him to simply accept the status of warrior by offering him a reward of gold. She also uses prolepsis to predict a future for Beowulf, further ensuring that he is not dissatisfied with his position as a warrior Be acclaimed for strength, for kindly guidance/ to these two boys, and your bounty will be sure (1219 1220). This also is transitional, bringing in past victories and tying them to future ones, showing Beowulf a picture of his future legacy. He has already won renown and is known to all men (1221), and ought to be reassured that he has achieved the glory he set out to gain, without the further need to overshadow her sons. Here we can see that gold is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Gender Aspects Of Sex In Sex And The City This blurring of gender norms, which would normally be seen as taboo is actually celebrated and fully embraced in the context of the show. This is similar to what Sex and the City does in the creation of Samantha Jones, one of the main characters of the show. Throughout the show Sam is seen as the wildest and most sexually liberated character. She is a highly successful, confident businesswoman who has sex like a man . Samantha defies popular gender norms by unapologetically speaking her mind and truly having sex with no strings attached in a world in which women are expected to be fragile prudish and depended on men in order to feel fulfillment. The writers of Sex and the Citydo a wonderful job of presenting the kind of feminism that we are likely to experience today. What that means is that unlike the feminism we see in Grey s Anatomy in which equality is achieved, the experiences of the characters in Sex and the City and the relationship of the main characters seem to be less of a fantasy and more of a reality. The lives of the four main characters, Charlotte, Carrie, Miranda and Samantha and their relationships serve as a representation of the different kinds of women that live amongst us today. On one end we have the most traditional portrayal of women in network television, Charlotte York. Charlotte is the most conservative and prudish one of the four women. As she says in the pilot of the show if you want to get these guys you have to keep your mouth shut and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Martin Guerre is a peasant who deserted his wife and family for many years. While Martin Guerre is gone, a man named Arnaud du Tilh arrives at Martin s village and claims to be Martin Guerre. Bertrande, who is Guerre s wife, Guerre s sisters, and many of the villagers, accepts the imposter. After almost three years of being happily married, Bertrande takes the fraud to court under pressure of Pierre Guerre, her stepfather and Guerre s brother. She states, so important were these family houses to Basque villagers that each was given a name which the heir and his wife assumed (Davis 6). Davis is portraying how property had a great importance for peasants of certain villages and how it was a major part of their lives. Davis also mentions in the case of Sanxi that he could not have sold it easily if he had wanted to, for the Fors that is, the customs of the Labourd prohibited the alienation of patrimonial goods except in cases of dire necessity and then only with the consent of other interested kin (Davis 8). Sanxi s lack of option to sell his property, unless given approval by other family who are uninterested in the property, shows that in certain villages peasants were concerned with maintaining their property within their family. Davis also contrasts this social norm of family property with explaining the social norms when dealing with property in other villages. Sanxi moved to new village called Artigat. It is stated, What was really different from the Basque country was the way the land moved, both in inheritance and in sales. Here in the plain below the Pyrenees there was very little effort among the common people to hold the family property together (Davis 11). Davis is doing a successful job of portraying property as economic means but also as a way of social standing. Davis also focuses on the different social levels apparent in peasant life. ... • 10. Western Influence on Kuwait Kuwait and Western influence Over the past decades, Kuwait, like most Islamic countries have practiced strict measures in terms of their governance system with lots of times the religious aspect influencing greatly the kind of government in place and the type of governance that is used within Kuwait. This resulted in a closed, less democratic, religious, stereotypical and generally patriarchal society. This has however undergone a lot of change particularly with the embracing of the Western culture that is more open, diverse and liberal in nature. Positives of western culture interaction More democratic space Western culture has had far reaching effects on many aspects of lives of the Kuwaiti in the sense that people have become more open minded and the society has turned from suppressing the women, both domestically and socially, to embracing them and liberating them to make choices and participate in social events like men do. Ladies currently enjoy a lot of freedom with regard to what they put on and how they express themselves. Kuwaitis have also adopted modern pop culture something that was unheard of in the past. They have developed a sense of taste for whatever they buy, whatever they listen to, what they eat, watch, what they do on their bodies, hair and teeth. It is paradoxical that when Kuwait gained her independence from the United Kingdom in 1961, her citizens proclaimed liberation, when in actual sense there was none of it. Romeo and Juliet has love, passion, fighting, sadness, madness, lust and jealousy packed into one. It was written by William Shakespeare around 1595 over 400 years ago. Romeo and Juliet is a great play for all ages and genders this is one of the things that makes it so special. This is why it is still performed around the world today. • 15. What Does It Mean To Be A Girl It s a girl! Most parents fantasize about hearing those precious and promising words because soon a little girl will make its way into their life and she will be sweet, innocent, and pure. Nothing will hurt that child, but unfortunately those parents are blinded by the happiness of the moment and do not realize that the little girlwill grow up and be worth less than her husband and she will be worth less in society. In Merriam Webster s Unabridged Dictionary the word girl means a femalechild from birth to adulthood, but in addition to this simple word there holds an immense amount of meaning. As a girl you are expected to break, but in reality girls have to pretend nothing will break them or they will again be judged by society. This tends to be the case because if a girl breaks it will just add fire to the sexist prejudices put upon them as a gender. In Serena Nanda s article Arranging a Marriage in India, she talks about her research in India, when a son s parents are looking for a wife for their son they have a very long list of expectations. She should be from the same caste system, pretty, not too intelligent, meshes with the family well, doesn t stray from home, nor does she gossip or call home a lot, and the most important thing is that she is pure before marriage. Though these expectations tend to look somewhat different in the U.S. they have the same ideas. A girl should be boxed in away from society and taking care of the children or perhaps being a good cook to put it into simpler terms because that is what society unfairly tells us a girl should be able to do. Serena also talks about how it is very important for a girl to protect the family name and in no way ever disgrace it. If that girl does disgrace the family (for example not staying pure) it is not uncommon for her brother or even cousin to murder her. Why is a family s expectations based on what a girl does? These unrealistic expectations push girls too far and cause us to think our worth is less because we cannot do it all, even though society thinks that s the least we could ... Upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 by Bradstreet and Huswifery by Taylor are similar in the sense that G d is always a part of their poems, whether it s direct or through the use of complex writing. Through the use of language and metaphors, Bradstreet conveys that a connection with G d could be strengthened through destruction while Taylor reveals that a connection can be reinforced through creation. The narrator goes on to say Adieu, adieu, all s vanity (line 36). This is a very materialistic phrase. However, in the next stanza, the narrator says that she is the one in the wrong for straying from G d. The realization of the connection she has developed to material objects brings on a reflecting of how she ever strayed from G d since there is nothing to count on except G d. In the last stanza, the narrator says, My hope and treasure lies above (line 54). Everything that the narrator needs is in heaven. While she may seem a little resentful, she is able to accept the destruction of her house and turn it into love for G d. The idea of predestination makes an appearance again as the narrator knows that this is what G d wanted. Wade Hatton, (Errol Flynn) in Dodge City, is a much more extroverted hero than Shane, and has greater plans to reform the town than merely just driving out the criminal element. Hatton s entry to the film is also much more grand. He is a soldier of fortune transplanted to the American frontier. (Abel 18). This alone creates the illusion of Hatton being a much more romantic hero and having greater plans than merely just wanting to build a community. He wishes to clean out the wickedness and lawlessness that Dodge City has become. To do this, he introduces sweeping reforms that not only remove the criminal element, but also set a moral tone for the community. One tried and true technique for falling asleep is by utilizing different breathing exercises or simply focusing on the breath. Pathology, the science of disease, has assisted in the arrests of countless criminals, uncovering the truth and more notably providing a sense of closure for the loved ones of the deceased. A coroner system without the foundation of science is a system that keeps murders on the streets, the innocent behinds bars and prosecutors frozen in cases. The most memorable example of inefficiency is Dr. Paul McGarry, who made careless errors in not just one but four autopsies. In the case of new prison inmate Cayne Miceli, McGarry initially determined the cause of death to be a drug overdose. • 33. The Tokugawa Period The Tokugawa era: A country of tranquility With all the struggle the Japanese went though, they finally were grasping a sense of themselves. This age of curiosity and exploration of a country, that the world would later know as Japan, was called the Tokugawa period. As a result of their newfound self, came art and more specifically, woodblock prints. These woodblock prints are significant to the Tokugawa era because they reflected what was going on during that period, including: what was currently happening, how the people viewed the world, and what new discoveries were made. During the Tokugawa era, the woodblock prints show that this was a time of peace because of the often travel, economic growth and significance of nature. The beautiful... Furthermore, Tsukudajima displays a time of peace because of the economic growth and beauty nature held over the people. These boats suggest that there are goods being imported and exported and Japan is earning money, therefore an economy is growing. Moreover, the beauty of Tsukudajima s starry night, almond eye moon, and colorful sky sitting on the horizon indicates that nature holds a power over the artists. Since the moon looks like the shape of an almond eye, the artist probably sees the moon as a guardian, which suggests that the people praised nature. Likewise, the starry night adds a feeling of comfort and happiness. A tiny village is resting upon the water and there are no flames or fighting. As part of these unfortunate turn of events, both the pilot and owner of the aircraft subsequently died in the crash. It would be later, that the estate of the two individuals, would take to court the Cirrus DesignGroup, alleging that manufacturer had failed to either properly train, or instruct the pilot on the operation of said aircraft prior to selling it to him. However, in the case of Glorvigen V. cirrus Design Corp, the estate of the deceased argued that it was the inherent duty of the manufacturer to provide adequate safety training as a part of the requirement for duty to warn, prior to the execution of flight practices. Analysis As it stands currently in the United States, a manufacturer may be held liable for any harm their product causes due to defect, even without being in privity of contract with the buyer. Additionally, the stance on negligence in the United States has changed from being bases solely on the theories of negligence, breach of contract, or breach of warranty concurrent with national shift towards strict liability in tort. This case does well do demonstrate that we recognize the duty of either suppliers to manufacturers to give adequate instruction, but the question now arises whether or not it is the inherent duty to also train intended users in the safe operation of the product by the manufacturer or supplier. In the state of Minnesota where the mishap aircraft originated from, the duty to warn is applied in the following way; The manufacturer has a duty to warn end users of a dangerous product if it is reasonably foreseeable that an injury could occur in its use (Gary v. Badger Mining Corp, 2004). The entailment of this duty is seen as giving adequate instruction unto the safe use of said product, but ultimately leaves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Growing Concern on Food Safety There is growing concern about food safety and especially about inputs of pathogenic microorganisms with possible implications for human health and the environment [1]. Microbial activity is a primary mode of deterioration of many foods and is often responsible for the loss of quality and safety. Concern over pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms in foods is increasing due to the increase in outbreaks of foodborne disease [2]. It has been estimated that as many as 30% of people in the industrialized countries suffer from food borne diseases each year caused by microbes [3]. Food additives have been used for centuries in the food processing practices for several purposes including the prevention of microbial growth and increase in the food shelf lives [4]. Due to the excessive use of food preservatives which some of them are doubtful to be carcinogenic and teratogenic and also increasing consumer demand to natural foods with a long shelf life and without chemical preservatives, food producers trend to replace chemical preservatives with natural forms such as oils and herbal extracts as antibacterial additives [5, 6]. In the recent years, efforts have been devoted to find new antimicrobial materials from natural resources for food preservation [7]. Reports indicated that many extracts and essential oils of edible plants had properties to prevent against a wide range of fungal contamination of foods [5, 7, 8, 9, 10]. Despite their strong impact, both socially and economically, the surveillance systems and programs currently deployed for the prevention of nosocomial infections are quite dishomogeneous and, in many situations, do not exist at all. There are two main discriminating factors in this critical situation. The first relates to the chronic lack of funds for a serious policy of prevention, particularly in terms of an effective screening process. The second concerns the lack of accurate knowledge and widespread awareness on the part of health care operators who are apparently unable to see the problem, in its complexity, as a factor that impacts on all health care processes, be that at regional or hospital level. The Joachim Quartet concerts were known for being a major series performing strictly string chamber music. Brahms had convinced Joachim with his manuscripts that the work was worthy of the sacrifice of adding clarinet and piano to the series. The highly regarded reputation of the Joachim concerts certainly allowed for the seriousness of the Quintet to be featured, for all of the cleaver composition techniques Brahms employed were certainly appreciated by the intellectual audiences the Quartet frequently attracted. The Quintet follows the general guidelines for form that audiences of the time have come to expect from serious string chamber music pieces. The first movement acts as a Sonata form with some unexpected variation, the second as a three part song form. The third and fourth movements begin to some unconventional practices. In the third, instead of a scherzo movement in 3/4 time, we get a sonata allegro in 4/4 and 2/4 time. In the fourth, the audience gets a theme and variations, but the tempo is considerably slower than what one would normally expect from a concluding movement. In 1891, the only memorable clarinet quintet was composed by Mozart. Stress does not always have to be viewed as a bad thing. For example, stress can motivate someone to study for an exam or plan ahead in his or her agenda to stay organized. Its only when stress manifest out of control and is not addressed properly that it can have very negative effects on both our mental and physical health. Reflecting on the document we watched in class, Stress: Portrait of a Killer, I was surprised to learn more about baboons correlating to human beings stress management and how you position as individual in the hierarchy of life has in effect on the levels of stress you may endure. In the documentary I learned a lot about how dominant male baboons has lower stress levels which in turn, made these baboon relativity healthier compared to their other members of their group. The baboons who had higher stress levels also has high blood pressure, not as good immune system, and a poor reproductive system. This just goes to show the position the baboons held in their hierarchy related to their health and ultimately, their life span. This idea that stress is related to poor health and life expectancy is not only true for baboons, but for human beings as well. I know from prior experiences when i get stress I tend to get really sick. When the end of the semester comes around, I get overwhelmed with papers, last minute assignments, and finals to study.
