Case Study On Rhino Horn
1. Reasons why rhinos are being poached 1.1. The number of rhinos being poached has grown rapidly
in recent years and is being driven by the demand for rhino horn in Asian countries, particularly
Vietnam. The main reasons people poach rhinos are for medicinal purposes and to have as a status
symbol to display your wealth and success. In Chinese culture, a rhino horn is used to treat fever,
rheumatism and gout. They also believe that the horn can cure snakebites, hallucinations, typhoid,
headaches, carbuncles, vomiting, food poisoning and devil possession. The rhino horn is usually
shaved into a powder, dissolved in hot water and then consumed by the patient. Some western
countries believe that rhino horns are used as an aphrodisiac, but this is not true. However, people in
Vietnam believed this tale and started to use the rhino horn for new reasons. They also use the rhino
horn as a hangover cure. More and more people are buying rhino horns as a status symbol or ... Show

The linkage of power of the private rhino owners will increase effectiveness of prevention of rhino
poaching. The only way of knowing for certain whether the legalizing of rhino horn trade will work is
when it is legalized. Extreme policies and legislation would be put in place to ensure that this system
would work effectively.Another strategy to look at is whether the punishment for the perpetrators
should be more severe and whether the use of a shoot on sight policy should be implemented when the
culprits are caught in the act (Van Houlen, 2004). This would increase the risk for individuals
contemplating to part take within the illegal activities of rhino

Katie Otto Research Paper
Katie Otto from American Housewife

When you think of great moms throughout television past they exhibit the same list of endearing
qualities. They are smart, strong and very loving. Moms in television presently also have those
qualities but they have evolved. Real moms today are typically balancing a full time career, a family
and a social life. Katie Otto, from the show American Housewife, possess numerous qualities
millennial mothers can relate to by simply being her imperfect self in a community of perfect cookie
cutter moms. As you can tell from the title of the show, Katie is a housewife and stay at home mom.
She and her husband Greg have three children, Taylor, Oliver and Anna Kat. Greg is a college
professor in the stuffy town of Westport where they rent a modest home and drive a mini van. The
Westport community is a rich one; mansions and luxury cars surround the Otto s. Needless to say they
do not exactly fit in. That might bother some moms but not Katie, she doesn t try to be someone she is
not.
She is quick witted, confident and unapologetic which doesn t boast well with the other moms in
town. She doesn t care about material things or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(Season 2, Episode 2 Boar Dain ) Katie tried to make him return the barbeque but when she was told
she wasn t being supportive she tried to get onboard. He went to buy a pig and didn t realize it was a
live pig. Instead of slaughtering it though, he brought it home and it became the family pet, they

Repercussions In Macbeth
Throughout history, many have pursued to gain world power. The age of imperialism, Hitler s desire
for his nazi party to control the world, Napoleon s attempt for France to control Europe, and many
others. Many have pursued to gain power, but ultimately failed from repercussions created in the
pursuit. In the Elizabethan era tragedy, Macbeth, William Shakespeare reveals through the motif of
blood to represent the harmful repercussions of the pursuit of power. Shakespeare warns
The pursuit of power has harmful repercussions. During Shakespeare s time people thought thin blood
implies good health while thick blood implies the result of poison. Lady Macbeth in planning for
Duncan s murder states, Make thick my blood; Stop up the access and passage to remorse
(Shakespeare I.v. 43 44). Lady Macbeth desires to thicken her blood to make planning murder easier
by removing her remorse. The result of thicker blood is poisoning: Lady Macbeth invokes the spirits
of murder to poison herself to aid in Macbeth s pursuit of power. As a result of pursuing power, one
can throw away part of himself to more easily commit vile acts. transition Shakespeare demonstrates
throwing away a part of oneself with Lady Macbeth desiring to poison herself to remove her remorse.
Furthermore, repercussions for the pursuit of power also come from others. After the events of the

Theme Of Greasy Lake
Greasy Lake is a short story written by T.C Boyle. The short story mostly focuses on three nineteen
year old boys. The three of the boys went one night on a summer vacation in an area close to a shiny
and muddy lake. The teenagers were looking for trouble on a summer evening and end of finding it. In
the story at the author tells the reader, that it was a time when it was good to be bad. But the story
shows that the three boys are truly lost. The story shows the reader the changing of time in culture that
these teenagers want to be a part of. Even though, they lack to leave the comforts of their upper

Many times, in society young people think they have it all under control, they have it figured out even

drinking, and sexual exploration and become involved in various mischievous activities. It is about the
coming of adulthood. It is no longer trying to be like them, but copying one. The three friends are not
as bad as they pretend to be. Boyle gives them an opportunity to rape, but got interrupted because they
wouldn t have done it anyways they were to scared. The author symbolizes the water as transition and
spirituality, the lake is symbolized as the elusive badness the boys want so badly. The narrator notices
that none of them are as bad as they try to act. After that night the narrator realizes he cannot make it
in that life, rather the narrator wants to go to the safety and security of his home and parents.
Throughout the story many bad decisions were being made because they couldn t handle themselves
whether they were drunk or sober and it caused a lot of trouble and problems for these young men. We

you are hanging out with the wrong people and wrong set of minds of wanting to be bad or revel

The Adventures Of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck Essay
Dating back to 1841, modern comics have had a long history. Since The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah
Oldbuck, which is generally accepted as the first American comic, comics as a genre of literature has
changed both technologically and in perception (Greenberger). Throughout American history, comics
have served as both an influence and a reflection of the time period. As America grew, changed, and
experienced major historical events, society and the ideas within changed along with it.
Many comic historians cite Genovese author and painter Rodolph Töpffer as the first modern comic
artist ( Comics Theory ). Töpffer is the author of a comic titled Histoire de M. Vieux Bois, which was
published in 1839. This was eventually translated in 1841 to the first American comic The Adventures
of Mr. Obidiah Oldbuck (Greenberger). Though this was the first comic published in America, it
cannot be said to reflect American history very well since it was not originally written in America.
Instead, it was first published in Europe before gaining widespread popularity in the United States
(Töpffer 2014).
Years later in 1894, the first significant recurring comic strip character The Yellow Kid debuted
(Greenberger). Created by Richard Outcault, The Yellow Kid was seen as the beginning of the Funnies
, the name given to comic strips in newspapers at the time ( Comic Theory ). His debut led to an
explosion of merchandising, culminating in the publication of a collection of comic strips in 1897.

Real Estate Investment Trust Case Study
The property values in some parts of the local market appear to have finally got back to an upward
trend. Although current prices are still significantly behind levels seen in 2006/2007 there has been
considerable growth in some parts of the country. The largest area of growth is in Dublin. According
to CSO figures for 2013 residential property prices in the Dublin, region increased by circa 15.7% in
2013 compared to 2012. However, property prices are still 49.1% below their highest level in
February 2007. Property investment incentives There have been a number of initiatives introduced by
the Government to try and stimulate investment in the property market. One of the most significant
initiatives is the introduction of the Real Estate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For many people, the property is seen as such an investment. According to the 2013 Daft.ie Rental
Report gross property yields on average across Ireland are 6%. In Dublin, the yields range from 5.2%
in South County Dublin to 8.1% in Dublin City Centre. Rent levels continue to grow year on year.
Access to the property is still quite difficult due to lack of property supply in desirable areas and a lack
of access to finance. Of course, it is impossible to predict how the market will fare in the coming years
and so, as with any investment, there is a risk of the yield on investment reducing. Using your pension
to buy property Individuals considering whether to invest in the property market might consider using
their pension funds to purchase the property. One of the main benefits of using a pension fund to
purchase property is that you can use monies which have not been subject to income tax to purchase
the property. Property purchased outside a pension fund is purchased from post income tax proceeds
or else purchased using borrowings that must be repaid using post tax income. Given the current
marginal rates of tax, up to a maximum of 55%, it is clear that significant savings can be made by
using your pension fund to invest in property rather than investing through after tax income. Of
course, not all individuals have control of where their pensions are invested, but

Individual Retirement Accounts Case Summary
Individual retirement accounts (IRAs) have become a dominant retirement vehicle in the US. As a
result, the IRA has become a major asset class that stands out in the estates of many high net worth
individuals. For those with outside funds who are drawing only the required minimum distributions
(RMDs), the IRA can be a great asset to pass on to the next generation. Younger heirs will have the
ability to stretch out the tax deferred status of IRA assets by taking out distributions over a long period
of time. Additional wealth can be transferred through the tax deferred growth in these assets.
Unfortunately, the ability to stretch out distributions is not automatic and the rules are more complex
than most people realize. One wrong move could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

deceased owner. The IRS states that the second method is the default method if the beneficiary does
not make a selection or the IRA custodian does not name the other method as the default. As
previously mentioned this is also the default if the estate is named as

Mission Command In Operation Desert Storm
Operations Desert Shield/Storm took place during the Gulf War, which was a conflict between Iraq
and a coalition force of more than 30 nations mandated by the United Nations, led by the United
States commanded by General Norman Schwarzkopf, who conducted one of the greatest military
campaigns of all times that resulted with the coalition victory. The name Operation Desert Shield was
for the operation leading to the built up of troops and defense of Saudi Arabia and Operation Desert

troops, dominated by technological superiority that definitely favored the coalition forces. The use of
missiles, guided bombs and invisible plane made easy to destroy Iraqi ground targets, being so the
first war in history to use the air power to defeat ground forces. The commander of this operation
General Schwarzkopf was a consolidated leader with great experience in war and diplomacy, who had

principles of mission command led the coalition into the desired end state, which was the defense of

Special attention should also be paid to the factor of stress. The workers have to deal with two
different forms of stress. On the one hand they suffer under the high pressure and frequently abusive
work environments and on the other hand the stress which is forced by their supervisors if they do not
for example manage to produce the expected quality standards.
1.1.2 Working Hours
The offense against the observance of working hours points out another example of the inhumane
labor conditions at Nikes manufactures. The Code of Conduct foresees a weekly work load of 60
hours. In addition all workers have the right to one day off a week. Further conditions are set down in
local employment laws. Overtime hours should only be disposed if necessary and workers have to be
remunerated for that. Many suppliers have thus reduced the number of overtime hours so that they
confirm to the Code of Conduct. However, workers must now complete the required number of units
in a shorter amount of time in order to satisfy the sporting goods manufacturers production schedule.
Workers complained about increased stress caused by tightened production schedules and new
production system introduced by management to offset the reduction in working hours. The reduction
of working hours which at first appeared advantageous has apparently turned into a detriment for
workers.
1.1.3 Remuneration
Another example of the inhumane conditions in the Nike factories is the low wages. A

The U.S. Army ran the camps, but foresters, carpenters and other people directed the work. The CCC
fought forest fires, planted trees, built roads, buildings, picnic areas, swimming areas, campgrounds
and created many state parks. When not working, the men socialized and had opportunities to learn
crafts and skills.
Each camp had about 200 men, including an army officer and junior officer, camp doctor, educational

The average camp had about 24 buildings, including kitchen, mess hall, barracks and quarters for the

Owassee Slide Run is the site of one of the Gorge s log slides, during the lumber era. The log slide
was used on a year round basis: during the winter the logs slid down on ice; following the snowmelt
the slide was greased to ease the descent of the logs. The logs were then loaded onto rafts and arks and

This country that we live in, the United States of America, has a reputation as being the land of
opportunity. Foreigners and native born citizens regard this land as the pot of gold at the rainbow s end

for many minorities and economically disadvantaged people, the dream is unfulfilled because the
educational opportunities that they need are unavailable. The universities are as unreachable as top

Adrienne Rich gave a graduation speech in which she blamed gender bias as a roadblock to women.
She felt that women had a more difficult time entering college than men, and for those who did have
such privilege, success rested on their ability to think like men (47). For the women who have the
privilege of a university education, their world is now influenced and controlled by men, and feminine
individuality is constructively discarded.
Mike Rose took up the baton with the issues of under privileged people who are unable to progress as
high up the ladder of education as they desire because they lack the basic skills required by
universities. He gave many examples of struggling men and women of all racial groups who, having
the desire to learn, are routinely excluded because they have not yet learned enough. He described the
struggles of one Chinese immigrant who learned to speak English by watching television and reading
People magazine. To many immigrants, even the most basic English classes are impossible for a non
native speaker to grasp.
One popular argument in favor of this practice claims that the universities are exclusive because they
have to be. It is impossible to educate everyone, so only the ones with

Hazel As A Leader In Watership Down By Richard Adams
In the book Watership Down by Richard Adams, Hazel proves in many ways that he is a leader. Being
a leader means having confidence, bravery, being trusted and worthiness. Everyday Hazel shows that
he is smart and confident by leading the rabbits to a new place to find food or a new shelter. In the
book Watership Down a few rabbits from the sandleford warren go on a mission because Fiver, the
smallest rabbit in the warren, says he can sense that something bad is coming. Hazel believes Fiver
and they go to find a new warren. While they are looking for a new warren they come across the

He is also always up for a risk even if it means that he is risking himself but he will not let others get

says something bad is going to happen soon so a couple of the rabbits leave and they gather more
rabbits along the way. Fiver and I will be leaving the warren tonight, he said deliberately. I don t know
exactly where we shall go, but we ll take anyone who is willing to come with us (page 14). Hazel is
strong and brave and is willing to go anywhere to help his friends from not being harmed by anything
that they may come across. Being brave really helps the leader be a better leader than they already are
because they are confident enough to do what is needed although it may scare them. Although Hazel
got injured because of the men that came to kill and hurt the rabbits, he still powered through the pain
and was a great leader even while he was hurt. Hazel was strong even when he go hurt from running
away from the men and falling into a hole that he couldn t get out of. When Hazel was missing
because he was in the woods and injured his friends were looking for him because they need him
around for them to be safe. Hazel is great at doing what is needed like finding food to survive and
helping others get where they need to be. Hazel is always super supportive, for example when they
were at the new warren one day the went outside and they found an injured bird and Hazel demanded
that they help him and make him get better. Hazel told all of the other rabbits to find food for the bird

The Importance Of Sexuality In Pop Culture
The topic of sexuality naturally creates a firestorm for debate. Many in the American public, as well as
people worldwide consider the topic of sex and or sexuality to be taboo. The approval of forms of
sexual expression that are deemed to be outside of the normal have been slow to gain acceptance in
the mainstream culture. However, the influence of pop culture has begun to change many views on
what exactly is normal. The acceptance of different forms of sexuality is in large part due to pop
culture. Pop culture has always been a precursor to what are now socially acceptable mainstream
norms . Everything from music (rock, rap, metal), movies, reality TV, and tattoos, were all based in
pop culture before being every day mainstream normal activities, and sexuality is no different. It
seems the more pop culture shuns the restraints on the different ways people experience and express
themselves as sexual beings, the more mainstream it has become. One of most telling examples of this
is when author J.K Rowling s of Harry Potter fame, announced that the character Albus Dumbledore
was gay (Trew). Not only was this met with resounding cheers and elation, the readers wondered, why
it took so long to announce it. This certainly would not have been the case in years passed. Apart from
straight white male sexuality or sexual expression, any other types of sexual expression were usually
not open for discussion. Pop culture has been and continues to be very beneficial in changing that.
Movies like Disclosure (1994), where Demi Moore plays as strong sexual anti hero and television
shows such as Sex and the City and The L Word where the plots are driven by female sexuality have
become more popular than ever. Female sexual expression is at point where women are able express
themselves as openly as their male counterparts. This is also true in the LGBT community. While not
completely on par with female sexuality, pop culture has helped the LGBT community in making
great strides with mainstream acceptance.
It was just a mere 20 years ago, when advertisers threatened to pull funding from networks that aired
gay content. Now the subject seems inescapable (Jacobs 5 8). Many of our current favorite pop culture

Sankofa Identity Essay
In his 1993 independent film Sankofa, Haile Gerima worked to dispel Hollywood s negative
stereotypes and interpretations of the black experience. Gerima s consciousness of American race
divide and prejudice helped him create some of the themes in Sankofa, the biggest being African
American s self identity. Gerima saw that in the United States, a person s place in society was based
on the color of his or her skin, thus creating a negative relationship between African American s and
their identities. Gerima explores the theme of black self identity in Sankofa through three characters,
Mona, Nunu, and Joe, using each one to show how the different levels of awareness of African culture
can affect a person s life.
Gerima uses the character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nunu is a slave, who unlike Shola, is not born into slavery, but rather taken from Africa and forced
into slavery. This gives Nunu a different belief about her identity than Mona. Nunu is a proud African
woman who wants to go back to Africa. On the plantation, she is seen as the spiritual center because
she is still spiritually connected to her homeland. On the plantation, Nunu tells African stories to Shola
and the other slaves, and even says that someday they will fly in the air and be home. Nunu s character
is Gerima s way of showing the importance of knowing and being proud of ones identity. Despite
being taken from her home, raped, and forced into slavery, Nunu never forgets who she is and where
she comes from, something many Africans, both then and now, forgot. Gerima included Nunu in
Sankofa to show to African American viewers, both young and old, the importance of always
remembering where their African heritage. Gerima argues that because his place in American society
is defined by skin color and that Hollywood makes African Americans out to be the other, Africans not
only need to be aware of their heritage, but also embrace and be proud of

In addition to, other scholars have elaborated on the higher rates of divorce in America than other
countries. The high rate of marital instability has been increasing for decades. Marriage is being
sought for personal stability and clarification as a substitution of marital values, there fore, leading to
short term marriages. In the scholarly article written by Frank Furstenberg Jr., Di vorce and the
American Family, the topic about divorce rates being higher due to changes of age composition is
proposed. Furstenberg says that the many experts believe that the velocity of changes are due to
voluntary dissolution. He also expands on how divorce alters the course of childhood.
Frank Furstenberg Jr. used statistics from the Us Bureau of the Census 1989 to talk about how there
more children are born to single mothers in black households. African American moth ers mostly will
remain unmarried for years and only one in five born in the 1980s will spend the majority of their
childhood living with both parents. Most children acquire a step parent because most unmarried or
previously divorced parents enter or re enter marriage (Furstenberg, 383). He did limit his information
and understanding of why black families have high rates of family vari ability.
Furthermore, divorce has a long term effect on adolescents with their fathers. It has been shown
through many studies that fathers have less contact with their adult children and

Globalization Through The Eyes Of Soccer
Globalization through the Eyes of Soccer
One indisputable aspect of modernity is that as time has progressed, the world has become more and
more connected in all imaginable ways. This aspect of modern society is termed globalization, and it
has a large impact on how the world operates. Observing and understanding the development and
integration of soccer in various societies proffers insight as to how the sport has aided in the
increasing globalization of the world within the past century. These effects of globalization can first be
seen in the international efforts around the world of soccer. Globalization can be divided into political,
cultural and economic interactions. Examples of both the political and the cultural impacts of soccer
can be found in France and its recent history, whereas a consequence of economic globalization and its
ties to soccer can best be seen in Asia.
The history of soccer at the international level connects heavily with the idea of globalization.
Globalization, in essence, is the interaction, collaboration, and sometimes even conflict, between
people of different nations; soccer embodies this idea heavily. For instance, in 1904, seven European
nations founded the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), creating the foundation
for the behemoth of an organization that it is today (McMahon 11/8/2016). The idea behind the
association was to have a governmental body that could control and dictate international matches, as

Summary Of It Middle Childhood Application Essay
FSHS 110 A Child Called It Middle Childhood Application Dave Pelzer s life started out as many
children s lives do. He was surrounded by a mother and father who loved him and would do anything
for him. He recalls himself as well as his two brothers being blessed with perfect parents who filled
the family with love and care (Pelzer 17). His father, Stephen, supported the family and worked as a
fireman in San Francisco, while his mother, Catherine, was a woman who glowed with love for her
children and family (Pelzer 18). In the summer, the family would go on a vacation often times to
Portola or Memorial Park, where they would camp in a large tent for a week. One time, they even
went to Johnson s Beach, where the adventures were endless. In this time, Dave learned how to swim
on his back and his mother was so proud of him for it. Every day was sprinkled with magic, especially
as Dave s mother came and gave him a hug from behind. In this time, he had never felt as safe and as
warm as he had at that moment, not knowing that things were soon to change in the most drastic way
(Pelzer 26). Catherine went from a loving mother to a nightmare while Stephen went from a protective
father, to a coward. Dave became the subject of child abuse, which had an impact on his childhood
development explained in by three well known theorists, Bronfenbrenner, Piaget, and Kohlberg. (Need

Daisy And Gatsby
The Great Gatsby Is a book written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the 1920s. It mainly follows the male
characters of Nick, and Gatsby, but has three female characters important in driving the plot, mainly
the conflict. Although these characters are very different they all are characterized by their major
flaws, and are the cause of a majority of the problems of the story. The most prominent of these
characters in the story is Daisy. Daisy is a wealthy, classy women who seems to get whatever she
wants. She s incredibly selfish, she doesn t care what happens to anyone else if it does not directly
affect her. Daisy drives almost the entire conflict. She serves as Gatsby s motivation for everything he
does. She is the one who ran over Myrtle,

Founding Brothers Book Review
Sujay Deshpande Mr. Lifland AP US History 12 August 2015 Book review of Founding Brothers: By
Joseph Ellis The creation of the United States of America was never an easy road as we may think
today. Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis, the book that will be reviewed today, mentions the
importance of our founding fathers, or brothers, to out country today. Ellis intention of writing this
book was to show how the road to creating The Constitution required a lot of arguments and
challenges along the way. As stated in the introduction, Ellis main argument in this book is that the
success that the USA has today was not a foregone conclusion or certain at that time period. This
statement means that the arguments and events that occurred did not have obvious answers, due to the
uncertainty and fear of the nation falling apart, the format of the government being unorthodox, during

There was a strong hatred between these two candidates, so Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel. When
they fought, Hamilton shot his gun and missed, which made Burr feel as if his life was in danger and
shot and killed Hamilton. Ellis uses this event to show the fear the founding brothers had about the
nation falling apart, and demonstrates how the duel was a direct result of the fear of falling apart. In
addition, the Founding Brothers decided not to talk about slavery or abolish it. Ellis is able to portray
how the founding fathers felt that keeping the union together was more important than the issue of
slavery, due to the South wanting to keep slaves. However, an argument can be made that slavery
should have had more importance over a united North and South, as it was the humane approach, and
the success of the North could have been a foregone conclusion . Nonetheless, the success of the
North still would not be a certainty, due to other national

A Theory Of Ontology And A Position On The Problem Of...
To understanding how we use language to describe the world, we need theories to describe and
explain our reality. The title quote is taken from Willard Van Orman Quine s, On What There Is , in
which he presents a theory of ontology and a position on the problem of universals. The problem of
universals questions the existence of universals. Universals are properties and relations which are held
in common by shared qualities. In comparison, particulars are concrete entities. The debate is centred
around two opposing viewpoints nominalist and realists. Realists believe in universals, nominalists do
not. While realists endorse both universals and particulars, nominalists reject the notion of universals
and only accept the existence of particulars. Consequently, there is disagreement among philosophers
whether universals exist. Discussion of the titled quote follows an examination of the One Over Many
argument which leads to the problem of universals. In this essay, I show that I agree with the title
statement and will argue in favour of a nominalist account of universals. I will focus primarily on
Quine s argument for nominalist semantics. This argument will be presented by questioning the
universal redness and the role of meanings. In examining arguments made by Armstrong and
subsequently presenting a response to these critiques via the analysis of Devitt, I will also discuss the
infinite regress problem and the validity of the One Over Many argument. My conclusion will be

Personality Traits Of The Big Five
As we all know, humans come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities. A big part of being an adult is
entering the work field and finding a career. That s where the Big five personality traits come in. The
five traits that most employers base their tests off of are; neuroticism, extroversion, agreeableness,
conscientiousness, and openness to experience. So the next time you take a pretest for employment
would these would be good to keep in mind. Especially when determining if you re a good fit for that
position. As stated earlier, the big five personality traits are neuroticism, extroversion, agreeableness,
conscientiousness, and openness to experience (sevencounties.org). There are other personalities that
we as people have. It s a way to express ourselves and communicate with others. But the big five was
picked to help focus in on a successful work environment. Neuroticism is how easily the person will
experience unpleasant emotions, such as depression, anger, and anxiety (sevencounties.org). This will
measure how the person will be able to handle uncomfortable situations involved with these emotions.
In the workplace we don t only have to deal with consumers, we also have to deal with our fellow
coworkers. This will help prepare someone for the workplace. The next personality is extroversion.
Extroversion describes how much energy one would have and if they would be able to interact with
others (sevencountries.org). Communication is a very import life

Pilates Exercise Analysis
I am taking beginning Pilates at this fall 2016 quarter. At the beginning of this quarter, I usually do
exercises once a week at home. At the end of the fall quarter, I start to enjoy doing more exercise.
Before I go to sleep, I do exercise every day at home with soft music. It also helps me to sleep better.
Doing exercise makes me feel good and have more confident.
My goals set for the quarter are to increase my fitness level, and learn to breath with the movement.
My goals were all met and I feel satisfied.
The two different Pilates exercises I will be demonstrated are Criss Cross and Double Leg Stretch.
The first Pilates exercise is Criss Cross. First, the start position is to lay flat on back with hands placed
palm over palm at the base of the neck. Then bring both knees into chest and curl the head and
shoulders off the mat. The movement is to extend your right leg to 45 degree angle. Rotate to the right
shoulder to the left knee. Then, switch to rotate in the opposite direction to bring the left shoulder to
the right knee. We can repeat these movement about 10 times. Next, the ... Show more content on

have a direct impact on our life because it tones and strength the muscles, and it will reduce stresses in
the body and tension. I always feel good after I practice Pilate and other exercises. I used to read an
article that being active and do exercise daily can help lower blood pressure, and people who are
physically active can live longer than those who are not active and are obese. Therefore, staying fit

Another factor that influence micelle formation is , the salt concentration and pH. The membrane
phospholipids are disrupted by mild nonionic detergents to isolate them but the isolated lipids should
be functional to react with the enzyme phospholipases. If pH and salt concentration is not maintained
at biological range, the micelles formed could be nonfunctional or denatured. This will make the
phospholipases reactivity with lipids impossible.
TLC is used this experiment is discontinuous method to analyze phospholipase reaction.
Spectrophotometry can be used to monitor enzymatic reaction activity continuously without
interrupting. However, TLC analysis more suitable method than spectrophotometry for following
phospholipase reactions because the products of the reaction does not have light absorption qualities
such as aromatic or conjugated pi system. However, products have polarity properties, which can be
exploited to measure the reaction using TLC.
This experiment has successfully demonstrated the isolation efficiently by TLC plate analysis. In

Sports Betting Scandal
Sports Betting Scandal Since their very beginning, sports have been immersed in society and often
times gambled on. This gambling increased with the rising popularity of college sports, and came to
the forefront through scandals involving illegal betting and point shaving. One such scandal occurred
just down the road from St. Francis de Sales High School at the University of Toledo. In between the
fall of 2003 and winter of 2006, two gamblers from Detroit bribed athletes from both the University of
Toledo basketball and football teams to shave points while they placed bets totaling $407,500 on the
games. The two gamblers involved were Ghazi Gary Manni and Mitchell Karam, Detroit businessmen
who had previously been involved in illegal schemes. The four UT basketball players that were bribed
and shaved points were Sammy Villegas, Anton Currie, Keith Triplett, and Kashif Payne. The three ...

probation, and helped the FBI during their investigation. Manni, the gambler behind it all, received a
70 month sentence. All seven of the athletes involved ended up taking guilty pleas. I think these
consequences were justified and fair for the crimes the players and gamblers committed, although
Manni s could have been more lengthy. This scandal helped bring awareness back to illegal betting in
college sports, which many thought had died down. Specifically, this scandal hurt the image of UT
and their athletic programs, but through their investigation they found no other immoral or illegal

Similarities Between Anne Bradstreet And Phillis Wheatley
Floriberto Solorzano
Ms. Shorey
ENG: 2130
3 September 2016 Anne Bradstreet Compared work with Phillis Wheatley Anne Bradstreet, Daughter
of the one governor and first published poet in America, was classified as a classic religious poet and
also was also considered a very modern poet who really focused on her everyday life and all of her
daily activates. Phillis Wheatley, enslaved at the age of 6, and became the first black women poet in
America wote mostly classical poetry and had many Christian views. Her poetry used pyscholical
meaning and also used poetic devices. Although both poets were to very respected poets of there time
both are also very different compared to their work. Phillis Wheatley s poetry was more in depth,
thoughtful, and had somewhat more stylish than the work of Anne s Bradstreet s. Anne s Bradstreet s
greatest influence on her writings was religion. As a child she was brought up as puritan therefore she
has puritan beliefs that was showed in her poems. However, In some of her writings it seems she was
struggled with her belief in God. Just like Phillis Wheatley, Anne Bradstreet used a literal device
called inversions and also used many religious references. In Anne s Bradstreet s poem Here Follow

Rugby Team Reflection
Since the spring of my sophomore year, I have been tasked with leading a true motley crew. By others
this crew is called the Edina Rugby Club; however, I think of each and every one one of these young
men as brothers. Without the sport of rugby, I would not have had the great fortune of meeting so
many teammates of different distinctive personalities, backgrounds and ethnicity. There are kids from
the high school band to the math club to the varsity football team who make up this crew. Given the
responsibility to lead these young men, I have grown as a teammate and also as a human being. I have
developed the ability to respect everyone, regardless of who they are, where they are from, and what
they believe in. I learn from these young men and let them teach me different things about each of
their cultures that without rugby I might never have learned. When I consider each teammate, despite
different ethnicities and backgrounds, I see that they are no different than me. I have learned to respect
people not for where they come from or what they believe in, but for who they are and how they
conduct themselves as a young man. With that being said, I still have the utmost respect for each
individual s personal beliefs and history. However, as a leader I feel that if we can get by the
stereotypical norms of categorizing people we will find ourselves not only having greater success as
leaders but as a society as a whole. Ultimately, those who lead are responsible for teaching the

The Power of Professional Learning Communities Essay
Benjamin Franklin said An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. Education opens the door
for everyone to excel in life. To become a strong nation, its people, especially children, must have a
good education so the nation can continue to excel and become stronger. Nevertheless, America is
suffering through an education crisis today. The current statistics show that the United States is falling
behind in education compared to other countries. The illiteracy rate is high, and the graduation rates
for inner city children are low. The causes of this crisis are everyday problems such as lack of interest
in school, poverty, and standardized testing. There are many solutions to the problem, but one

The United States also places 25th in math, 17th in science, and 14th in reading ( Best Education in
the World, 2012). Fourth Graders in the U.S. are 11th in Math in the Trends in International
Mathematics and Science Study ( U.S. education spending tops Global List, 2013.) Sixty six percent
of all fourth graders are not reading at grade level (Reese, Fredrick 2014). Fourteen percent of the
population, or 32 million adults, cannot read. Nineteen percent of high school graduates cannot read.
In less developed countries like Chile, Brazil, and Latina, children are increasing in academics three
times faster than American Students ( Best Education in the World, 2012). The problem in the
education system lies within the public schools, because the majority of students attend public
schools. In fact, only ten percent of children attend private schools (Jennings, 2013). USA Today said
Students in a handful of big city school districts have a less than 50 50 chance of graduating from high
school with their peers, and a few cities graduate far fewer than half each spring... (Toppo, 2006).
With these statistics in education, many people wonder why the United States is lagging, but one
major reason for the lagging is teaching methods.
The use of standardized test has been used for many years. Tests such as ACT, SAT, EOC, and

Literary Elements In The Matrix
The Matrix is a well known blockbuster film which was released in the year 1999. Viewers commonly
it identify by the fascinating video effects as well as the unreal (yet real in the movie) acts performed
in the scenes. The idea which I aim to explore concerning the movie in this essay dwells on the usage
of cinematographic elements, the theme of fate as well as the stylistic use of literary elements.
The movie is well known for the advanced cinematographic effects and for a person who understands
film, the effects which are used in the film bring about a scientific as well as imaginary concept which
make the film fall under the genre of science fiction. Although most films are fiction, sci fi films are
quite intriguing because of the technologically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The number of rhinos being poached has grown rapidly in recent years and is being driven by the demand for rhino horn in Asian countries, particularly Vietnam. • 6. The Adventures Of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck Essay Dating back to 1841, modern comics have had a long history. Since The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck, which is generally accepted as the first American comic, comics as a genre of literature has changed both technologically and in perception (Greenberger). Throughout American history, comics have served as both an influence and a reflection of the time period. As America grew, changed, and experienced major historical events, society and the ideas within changed along with it. Many comic historians cite Genovese author and painter Rodolph Töpffer as the first modern comic artist ( Comics Theory ). Töpffer is the author of a comic titled Histoire de M. Vieux Bois, which was published in 1839. This was eventually translated in 1841 to the first American comic The Adventures of Mr. Obidiah Oldbuck (Greenberger). Though this was the first comic published in America, it cannot be said to reflect American history very well since it was not originally written in America. Instead, it was first published in Europe before gaining widespread popularity in the United States (Töpffer 2014). Years later in 1894, the first significant recurring comic strip character The Yellow Kid debuted (Greenberger). Created by Richard Outcault, The Yellow Kid was seen as the beginning of the Funnies , the name given to comic strips in newspapers at the time ( Comic Theory ). His debut led to an explosion of merchandising, culminating in the publication of a collection of comic strips in 1897. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Importance Of Sexuality In Pop Culture The topic of sexuality naturally creates a firestorm for debate. Many in the American public, as well as people worldwide consider the topic of sex and or sexuality to be taboo. The approval of forms of sexual expression that are deemed to be outside of the normal have been slow to gain acceptance in the mainstream culture. However, the influence of pop culture has begun to change many views on what exactly is normal. The acceptance of different forms of sexuality is in large part due to pop culture. Pop culture has always been a precursor to what are now socially acceptable mainstream norms . Everything from music (rock, rap, metal), movies, reality TV, and tattoos, were all based in pop culture before being every day mainstream normal activities, and sexuality is no different. It seems the more pop culture shuns the restraints on the different ways people experience and express themselves as sexual beings, the more mainstream it has become. One of most telling examples of this is when author J.K Rowling s of Harry Potter fame, announced that the character Albus Dumbledore was gay (Trew). Not only was this met with resounding cheers and elation, the readers wondered, why it took so long to announce it. This certainly would not have been the case in years passed. Apart from straight white male sexuality or sexual expression, any other types of sexual expression were usually not open for discussion. Pop culture has been and continues to be very beneficial in changing that. Movies like Disclosure (1994), where Demi Moore plays as strong sexual anti hero and television shows such as Sex and the City and The L Word where the plots are driven by female sexuality have become more popular than ever. Female sexual expression is at point where women are able express themselves as openly as their male counterparts. This is also true in the LGBT community. While not completely on par with female sexuality, pop culture has helped the LGBT community in making great strides with mainstream acceptance. It was just a mere 20 years ago, when advertisers threatened to pull funding from networks that aired gay content. Now the subject seems inescapable (Jacobs 5 8). Globalization Through The Eyes Of Soccer Globalization through the Eyes of Soccer One indisputable aspect of modernity is that as time has progressed, the world has become more and more connected in all imaginable ways. This aspect of modern society is termed globalization, and it has a large impact on how the world operates. Observing and understanding the development and integration of soccer in various societies proffers insight as to how the sport has aided in the increasing globalization of the world within the past century. These effects of globalization can first be seen in the international efforts around the world of soccer. Globalization can be divided into political, cultural and economic interactions. Examples of both the political and the cultural impacts of soccer can be found in France and its recent history, whereas a consequence of economic globalization and its ties to soccer can best be seen in Asia. The history of soccer at the international level connects heavily with the idea of globalization. Globalization, in essence, is the interaction, collaboration, and sometimes even conflict, between people of different nations; soccer embodies this idea heavily. For instance, in 1904, seven European nations founded the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), creating the foundation for the behemoth of an organization that it is today (McMahon 11/8/2016). • 23. Founding Brothers Book Review Sujay Deshpande Mr. Lifland AP US History 12 August 2015 Book review of Founding Brothers: By Joseph Ellis The creation of the United States of America was never an easy road as we may think today. Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis, the book that will be reviewed today, mentions the importance of our founding fathers, or brothers, to out country today. Ellis intention of writing this book was to show how the road to creating The Constitution required a lot of arguments and challenges along the way. As stated in the introduction, Ellis main argument in this book is that the success that the USA has today was not a foregone conclusion or certain at that time period. This statement means that the arguments and events that occurred did not have obvious answers, due to the uncertainty and fear of the nation falling apart, the format of the government being unorthodox, during a ... When they fought, Hamilton shot his gun and missed, which made Burr feel as if his life was in danger and shot and killed Hamilton. Ellis uses this event to show the fear the founding brothers had about the nation falling apart, and demonstrates how the duel was a direct result of the fear of falling apart. In addition, the Founding Brothers decided not to talk about slavery or abolish it. Ellis is able to portray how the founding fathers felt that keeping the union together was more important than the issue of slavery, due to the South wanting to keep slaves. However, an argument can be made that slavery should have had more importance over a united North and South, as it was the humane approach, and the success of the North could have been a foregone conclusion . Nonetheless, the success of the North still would not be a certainty, due to other national ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. A Theory Of Ontology And A Position On The Problem Of... To understanding how we use language to describe the world, we need theories to describe and explain our reality. The title quote is taken from Willard Van Orman Quine s, On What There Is , in which he presents a theory of ontology and a position on the problem of universals. The problem of universals questions the existence of universals. Universals are properties and relations which are held in common by shared qualities. In comparison, particulars are concrete entities. The debate is centred around two opposing viewpoints nominalist and realists. Realists believe in universals, nominalists do not. While realists endorse both universals and particulars, nominalists reject the notion of universals and only accept the existence of particulars. Consequently, there is disagreement among philosophers whether universals exist. Discussion of the titled quote follows an examination of the One Over Many argument which leads to the problem of universals. In this essay, I show that I agree with the title statement and will argue in favour of a nominalist account of universals. I will focus primarily on Quine s argument for nominalist semantics. This argument will be presented by questioning the universal redness and the role of meanings. In examining arguments made by Armstrong and subsequently presenting a response to these critiques via the analysis of Devitt, I will also discuss the infinite regress problem and the validity of the One Over Many argument. My conclusion will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are other personalities that we as people have. It s a way to express ourselves and communicate with others. But the big five was picked to help focus in on a successful work environment. Neuroticism is how easily the person will experience unpleasant emotions, such as depression, anger, and anxiety (sevencounties.org). This will measure how the person will be able to handle uncomfortable situations involved with these emotions. In the workplace we don t only have to deal with consumers, we also have to deal with our fellow coworkers. This will help prepare someone for the workplace. The next personality is extroversion. This gambling increased with the rising popularity of college sports, and came to the forefront through scandals involving illegal betting and point shaving. One such scandal occurred just down the road from St. Francis de Sales High School at the University of Toledo. In between the fall of 2003 and winter of 2006, two gamblers from Detroit bribed athletes from both the University of Toledo basketball and football teams to shave points while they placed bets totaling $407,500 on the games. All seven of the athletes involved ended up taking guilty pleas. I think these consequences were justified and fair for the crimes the players and gamblers committed, although Manni s could have been more lengthy. There are kids from the high school band to the math club to the varsity football team who make up this crew. Given the responsibility to lead these young men, I have grown as a teammate and also as a human being. I have developed the ability to respect everyone, regardless of who they are, where they are from, and what they believe in. I learn from these young men and let them teach me different things about each of their cultures that without rugby I might never have learned. When I consider each teammate, despite different ethnicities and backgrounds, I see that they are no different than me. I have learned to respect people not for where they come from or what they believe in, but for who they are and how they conduct themselves as a young man. With that being said, I still have the utmost respect for each individual s personal beliefs and history. However, as a leader I feel that if we can get by the stereotypical norms of categorizing people we will find ourselves not only having greater success as leaders but as a society as a whole. Ultimately, those who lead are responsible for teaching the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
