THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
The circulatory system
carries/transports blood with oxygen
and nutrients to all parts of our body.
THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM IS
MADE OF:
The blood
Blood vessels
The heart
Arteries
Veins
Capillaries
The blood is made up of four elements:
Plasma
Red blood cells
White blood cells
Platelets
PLASMA
It is a yellow liquid and all the blood
elements float on it.

MAIN BLOOD CELLS
RED BLOOD
CELLS
They carry oxygen
and carbon dioxide
and give colour to
the blood.
WHITE BLOOD
CELLS
They protect us
from bacteria,
illnesses,
infections, etc.
PLATELETS
When there is an
injury in a blood
vessel, they close
that injury.
Platelets act like a gel
that makes a blood
clot.
Blood clot
They carry blood
containing oxygen
from the heart to the
rest of the body.
Arteries
Veins
They carry blood
containing carbon
dioxide from the rest
of the body to the
heart.
They are small
vessels that
connect arteries
and veins.
Capillaries
THE HEART
The
1. It is a hollow muscle that has four
chambers.
Atrium

Ventricle

Ventricle

1 atrium two atria (word with latin origins)
2. It is like the engine of the circulatory
system because it pumps blood to the
rest of the body.
3. It usually beats between 60 and 100 times
per minute but when we do exercise, it goes
faster.
… because our body needs to consume
more oxygen and energy, so the
circulatory system has to carry more
blood.
