Prehistory goes from the appearance of the first
human beings (2 million years ago) to the
invention of writing.
It means that Prehistory lasted more than 2 million
years and History is lasting about more than 5.000
years.
Differences between Paleolithic and
Neolithic
Paleolithic comes from
Greek and it means old
stone.
Neolithic comes from
Greek and it means new
stone.
Animals
In the Paleolithic,
people were hunters
and they hunted
animals.
In the Neolithic,
people domesticated
animals.
PLANTS
In the Paleolithic,
people collected
plants.
In the Neolithic,
people cultivated
crops.
PLACES TO LIVE
In the Paleolithic,
people were nomads
and they moved from
one place to another.
In the Neolithic,
people started
sedentary life.
HOUSES
In the Paleolithic,
people lived in caves.
In the Neolithic,
people lived in
houses. The houses
were near rivers.
TOOLS
In the Paleolithic,
people made tools
with stone, bones and
wood.
In the Neolithic,
people made tools
with stone and wood.
FOOD
In the Paleolithic,
people started to use
fire to cook food.
In the Neolithic,
people used pottery to
keep food.
METAL AGES
COPPER AGE
People discovered that metals
were harder, stronger and more
resistant than stone.
People dedicated to different
jobs: some were farmers, some
made tools, some made
pottery, etc.
BRONZE AGE
People discovered that bronze was harder, stronger,
more resistant and better than copper.
IRON AGE
People discovered that iron
was better than bronze.
People started to make coins
with gold and silver to
exchange products.
… and then, by the year 3.000 B.C., writing was
invented and people started to record historical facts
using letters and words.
