Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" can be both challenging and
intellectually stimulating. Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel is rich in themes, symbolism, and
cultural intricacies, making it a compelling subject for analysis. However, diving into this literary
work requires a deep understanding of Latin American literature, magical realism, and the socio-
cultural context of the time.
One of the difficulties lies in interpreting the ambiguous nature of the narrative. Marquez weaves
a complex web of perspectives, making it challenging to discern objective truths from subjective
perceptions. The narrative structure, with its non-linear timeline and fragmented storytelling,
demands careful attention to detail and a keen ability to connect the dots coherently.
Furthermore, the essay must delve into the cultural and historical aspects that permeate the novel.
Exploring the role of honor, societal expectations, and the impact of the Latin American setting
adds layers of complexity to the analysis. Readers must navigate the cultural nuances to
appreciate the characters' motivations and the unfolding of events.
To create a compelling essay, one must grapple with the moral ambiguity presented in the
narrative. The characters' actions and societal norms may seem perplexing or even contradictory
to readers unfamiliar with the cultural context. Unraveling these complexities and presenting a
nuanced interpretation requires a thoughtful and thorough exploration of the text.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" demands more than just a
superficial understanding of the plot. It requires a deep dive into the cultural, historical, and
literary intricacies, making it a challenging yet rewarding endeavor for those who undertake it.

This paper is about leadership and motivation. One of the main issues is whether a
leader can effectively lead individuals (be they employees or not) without motivating
them in way or another.

BehavioralHere the focus has shifted from the leader to leadership. Two primary
dimensions of behavior: task orientation and follower orientation. Thus, two types:
authoritarian and democratic with differences reside in the focus of power.
Productivity is expected to be higher in the democratic dimension.
The theory suggests that effective leaders behave differently than less effective
leaders.
There is job centered behavior or initiating structure behavior as opposed to employee
centered behavior or consideration behavior. Both styles are at ends of a single
quantum.
The behavior is an interaction of style and expectations. Example: An army officer
shows behavior of high levels of conformity and appreciation and respect to the roles
and expectations. In contrast to an employee in a research and development unit or a
creative studio who strive on creativity and breaking the mould thinking out of the
box .
ContingencySuch theories are continuation of the situational approach to leadership.
In these theories the factor of situation and behavioral aspects are taken into
consideration. The leader s appropriate behavior changes with situation. The
favorableness of the situation depends on the leader s interpretation and point of view.

Argumentative Essay On Legalization Of Marijuana
Legalization of Marijuana Growing up, everyone was told drugs are bad for you
time and time again. Whether it was your parent or teachersg7u as a kid you
followed authorities regardless without understanding the reason behind it. As we
get older, we started putting pieces together why we shouldn t use drugs based on
experience. Going on questioning why do people do drugs that are supposedly bad
for your health? Why the government legalized drugs that are harmful to society?
Unlike cigarettes and alcohol, marijuana seem more appealing to get legalized.
Debates on legalizing marijuana have went on since the existence of the plant:
different researchers have come up with their own findings. Regardless of what effect
it has, everyone going to have their opinions based on assumptions. One thing they
should keep in mind is that, cannabisis a plant that grow naturally: Therefore, it
should have the same right as alcohol, and cigarettes that are man made and legal.
Cannabis is natural plant that grows naturally for itself: nowadays people tend to
grow it adding their own style to keep it fresh. Its recognized all over the world as
a drug that s known to give user that high feeling. Cannabis has been illegal in most
countries; but today more and more people are siding with the drugs. More than 60
percent of the public now says that it supports marijuana legalization . Support for
allowing medical use of marijuana with doctors supervision is closer to 90 percent.

Descartes Discourse On The Method
In part two of the Discourse on the Method, Descartes is inquiring about how he can
be certain that his acquired judgements are true. Upon inquiring, he compares his
acquired judgments to buildings, which several have tried to patch up by adapting
old walls built for different purposes, to explain that a building is typically more
structurally sound when it is made up of just one craftsman (25). Consequently,
making it such that judgments are also more structurally sound when they are
governed by just one party; that one party being himself. As opposed to being
governed by our appetites and our teachers, which, in often, times are opposed to each
other; therefore, making such judgments unfit to hold as true (25). Once it has been

Accordingly, if he did not already possess the knowledge to know in that moment
that the judgment was true, he did not accept it, which is a plausible thing to do.
However, it would seem that this method of experiencing previous judgments would
lead to some obstacles, because in order to possess the knowledge to accept the
judgment, he would have already had to accept another judgment previously. In the
case of basic arithmetic, in order to call into judgment whether or not he believes
2+2=4, he would have to either accept that 2+2=4 on the basis that arithmetic is true,
without proving himself that arithmetic is true, hence, accepting a judgment without
evident knowledge. Or he would have to deny that 2+2=4 on the basis that arithmetic
is false because he cannot prove himself that it is true. In other words, it is widely
accepted knowledge that basic arithmetic is true without anyone having proven
themselves that it is true, so any accepted judgment of basic arithmetic would be
accepted without evident knowledge. Therefore, for this particular rule, I do not
agree due to the exceptionality of the rule when it comes to the sciences and
Slave Labor In Khufu
Khufu was a Pharaoh of the old kingdom period who was most well known for the
construction of the pyramid of Giza. There is great controversy about whether Khufu
utilized slave labor in the construction of the pyramid. Evidence from Herodotus
suggests that slave labor was used in building the pyramid, however his points can be
disproved using archaeological evidence from the period. The statement that the
greater the power, the more powerful the abuse apparently does not apply to Khufu,
despite what Herodotus has said. Khufu rose to power and accomplished great feats,
while simultaneously treating his workers with consideration and respect.
The Pharaoh was a religious and political leader who had certain responsibilities in

Herodotus would have you believe that Khufu was a cruel ruler who sold his
daughter to slavery so he could build a great tomb for himself, however, the truth is
vastly different to what Herodotus and the Westcar Papyrus depict. The laborers who
worked on Khufu s great pyramid were treated with respect and given medical care
and food to support them, they worked shifts, to make sure they did not overexert
themselves, slavery was prominent in Egypt, just not the way Herodotus depicts it.
While the statement that The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse may
be true in some cases, it is not displayed by Khufu the
The Effects Of The Market Revolution On The 18th Century
Jihoon JunDBQ
From the early to 18th century the Market Revolution had tremendous and lasting
impacts on the Northern, Southern and Western economies. The Revolution brought
about new technological inventions as well as an influx of immigrants to new lands.
The effects of the Market Revolution on Northern, Western and Southern societies are
evident in various ways. For the North, the revolution gave way to the increase in
population because of immigrants. Contrary to this, the West experienced
advancements and developments in technology due to the Revolution and inventors
such as Eli Whitney. Lastly for the South, the Market Revolution created different
perceptions on the various social effects the movement had on society.
In the Northern society, the Market Revolution gave way to the plethora of
immigrants that settled in the North. Between 1840 and 1860 many individuals in
different nations sought freedom from poverty, social division and various other
factors. In fact, during the mid 18th century, roughly 2 million Irish, 1.5 million
Germans, and 750,000 Britons settled in the Northern United States. From this time
period, 88% of the immigrants were either English, German or Irish (Doc. 4). This
graph clearly illustrates the overall immigration as a whole; however, this document
fails to address the fact that this sudden immigration also had some negative
consequences. The event also resulted in a fragmented society. In other words, artisan

The Future of Spaceflight and Why It Should Be Private
Essay
High above our beloved watery globe, on the shore of the cosmic ocean, a winged
spacecraft approaches a gigantesque space station pirouetting in the vast dark. The
pilots of this vessel make use of flat screen computer displays to match their rotation
with that of the massive orbital outpost. As the shuttle spins, a logo of the world s
largest airline, emblazoned on its side, comes into view.
This is not the present, but it was to be the past. A scene from Stanley Kubrick s
1968 science fiction epic, 2001 A Space Odyssey, it was lauded at the time for its
realistic portrayal of a human future in space (*1). Now, ten years after this future
failed to manifest, spaceflight is still a privilege reserved only for the most powerful

The Obama Administration s policy of support for the COTS program and apparent
lack of support for NASA led manned exploration has aggravated many. Criticism
includes a bemoaning of the transformation of America s once proud NASA into a
shell of an organization with no git r done capability of its own.
The continued launching of spacecraft by NASA and other national space
organizations however, as this essay intends to demonstrate, is an antiquity that is
nearing the end of its usefulness. The appropriation of space launch capabilities by
the private industry is fundamental to increased accessibility to space; furthermore,
it is essential for the long term health of the scientific pursuits to which NASA is
dedicated. The national space programs of Earth have, so far, failed to provide a
reasonable alternative to the obscene costs incurred through the crude launching of
payloads into orbit atop massive and failure prone chemical rockets. While no
alternative to the use of chemical rocketry has yet been proven, one for reducing its
price is just getting off the ground. The increasing privatization of the launch industry
has already seen dramatic reductions in the cost of lifting a satellite from the surface
of the Earth to LEO.

The Birth of Fish; The Death of Oceans Essay
The Birth of Fish; The Death of Oceans
Overview:
Life and death are themselves opposites; then again in our oceans, life sometimes
causes death. Over the past few decades, the demand for edible seafood has sky
rocketed, resulting in the formation of aquacultures and overfishing. As of now, the
two greatest threats to our marine resources result from overfishing and water
pollution. Commercial fishing targets key fish species, resulting in an imbalance of
the marine ecosystem. In response to the near elimination of these species, an
industry has developed to raise these species in farm communities. It was the initial
belief of many that aquacultures would help offset the demand for more seafood.
However, the result of fish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overfishing also disrupts the hierarchy in the food chain as well, since many of the
big game fish are targeted by these companies. When this occurs, fishing fleets then
start a process known as fishing down, which is a phrase that was started by Pauly
(Pauly, par. 12). Because of overfishing, some members of society have decided to
farm raise fish for the consumption by humans.
Fish farming, otherwise known as aquaculture, was started in hopes of preserving the
oceans and providing a reliable source of seafood. In some instances, it does
wonders; in other ways it has hurt the oceans greatly. For certain fish species, such as
the vegetarian and shellfish eaters, it makes sense to farm them. For fish such as
salmon and other carnivorous fish, it is highly inefficient to farm them. Other
byproducts of fish farming include the production of waste, the displacing of natural
breeding habits, the spreading of disease, and the addition of other pollutants into the
ocean (Pros, par. 3). There is an importance in analyzing the differences between the
pros and cons to determine whether or not the good outweighs the bad.
One of the major factors which leads us to many questions about the ocean is that of
pollution. Pollution occurs in many ways that we can and cannot influence. Pollution
occurs from human unsanitary conditions, as well as from agriculture and fish
farming. For example, in the Florida Keys and
Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder Research Paper
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is part of many veteran s lives in the U.S.
today. PTSD is a serious mental and emotional disorder that people often don t
understand or don t know about. It s defined as a mental illness that develops after a
person has lived through a traumatizing event, such as sexual assault, physical abuse,
threat of death, or serious injury. Most people who experience a distressing event
don t develop PTSD, but for those who do, it s extremely terrifying to go through.
Many U.S. veterans have to deal with serious emotional and mental trauma after
their time of fighting is over. There aren t any statistics that show exactly how
many people and veterans in the U.S. have PTSD, because most veterans don t
know they have a mental disorder. They don t seek help; therefore statistics aren t
certain. Studies have shown that at least 70% of adults have gone through a
traumatic event, and 20% of those people develop PTSD. That s approximately
31.3 million people. Further investigation confirms that women are more likely to
develop the illness than men are; approximately 1 out of 10 women will or have
had PTSD. Combat veterans are even more likely to be diagnosed with PTSD after
returning from the military, and an estimated study says that one out of every five
veterans have or will develop the disorder. The military consists of 17% women, and
71% of those women develop PTSD from sexual assault within the ranks. These are

Advantages And Benefits Of TPPA In Malaysia
TPP provides many benefits and advantages to our country, Malaysia. This is so
because TPPA help in terms of economic progress. In line with the growing progress
we should be wise in arranging step so that our country can become a developed
country like other countries in the world. For example, Qatar, Luxembourg,
Singapore, Brunei and Kuwait who are economically developed.
However, there are a variety of effects or impikasi that occur due to the establishment
of the TPPA, led by the United States. TPPA establishment indirectly affects the lives
of citizens and also to the development of the country. This has created concern to the
people as a result of the establishment of the TPPA can be seen now that the short
term effects.
One of the effects of the TPPA involves an increase in the price of medicines.
According to the TPPA agreement, prices of medicines will increase between 60%
and 80% from the current price. This agreement will involve the regulation of
medicines in generic drugs have changed that are not allowed to be sold in the
member countries of the TPPA. A generic drugis cheaper imitations that have the

TPPA is expected to abolish import duties on rice from the United States, which is
currently charged at 40%. If the tax is abolished, the price of American rice will be
cheaper than the price of local rice because of high subsidies given to US
government rice producer country, then it causes the price of rice can not be
matched by our country in rice prices. When this happens, the rice industry of our
country will become weak and farmers would suffer a loss of income sources is

Ansoff Matrix Model Of Ryanair
Executive Summary
Ryanair is an Irish airlines company set up by the Ryan family in 1985 with a share
capital of just ВЈ1 and only 25 members of staff. Its first route was launched in July
1985 from Waterford in the southeast of Ireland to London Gatwick. The expansion
of the company started in 1986, when the company obtained the permission to
compete with the duopoly British Airways and Aer Lingus. For many years up to
1990, the financial performance of the company which was negative, dramatically
changed with the appointing of the new Chief Executive Officer Michael O Leary.
The new management vision was to restructure the company based on the Southwest
Airlines prototype business model with a culture of low cost / low fare. Thanks to
the European Union deregulation air transport in ..., the company opened new routes
and bases, increase its market share and became the first airline in Europe to carry
over 100 Million international customers in a calendar year (Ryanair,2016) due to its
low cost competitive advantage. The purpose of this report is to comment at the first
part how Ryanair achieve its competitive advantage through the RBV analysis
(Barney,1991), the second part will assess its approach to the diversification through
the Ansoff matrix , the third part will discuss the company s organisational culture
using the cultural web modeland last part its internationalization strategy.

The Beauty Of Women
Women have had their worth decided by their beauty since the world began. The
beauty industry has made millions off telling women that they need this product
to matter, literature has been painting women as plot devices or prizes for year,
and television tends to only show thin and beautiful women. Even now, women
call themselves snacks and delicious as if we only exist to be consumed. We are
constantly taught to laugh at jokes we don t find funny, to tear down other women,
that our bodies are not our own, and that our value is determined by what size
dress we wear. Women are brought up in a society that teaches them that being
pretty is the price they must pay to occupy space in the world. Warsan Shire, a
British Somali poet said It s not my responsibility to be beautiful. I m not alive for
that purpose. My existence is not about how desirable you find me (Shire). However,
some femaleauthors have chosen to revolutionize female narratives. Gentlemen Prefer
Blondesby Anita Loos and Black Oxen by Gertrude Atherton were a direct challenge
to the idea that a womans identity were wrapped up in her beauty. In Loos s
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, a young woman journals about her travels and the men
she meets along the way. Initially, one can assume that Lorelei, the protagonist, is
simply an airhead who thrives off of the attention of men. The text appears to be
playing on a stereotype. However, Loos turns this stereotype on its head as it
becomes more clear that Lorelei is
The Hard Boiled Private Eye
The hard boiled private eye is a mysterious protagonist who is a professional
investigator. With a first look at Oedipus Rex in Sophocles Oedipus the King and
Jake Gittes in Roman Polanski s Chinatown they seem to be very different from
each other. Jake Gittes is a busy detective that lets solving cases consume his life
and Odeipus Rex is a brand new King in the city of Thebes whose is cursed with a
fate that cannot be changed. After reading Oedipusthe King and watching Chinatown,
it s clear that both stories share similar characteristics such as corruption, lies and
even incest.
Oedipus the King is a tragedy by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, that
follows the story of King Oedipus of Thebes as he discovers that he has
unwittingly killed his own father, Laius, and married his own mother, Jocasta.
When Oedipus was a baby his parents were told by a prophet that the baby would
grow up to kill his father and marry his own mother. Oedipus mother and father sent
him away to be hanged by his ankles until death. Oedipus was later found and taken
to a queen and king in another kingdom where he would grow up thinking they
were his real parents. When Oedipus get older he gets told by a drunken man that
he is a bastard child and this sends him on a mission to find out the truth. Oedipus
goes to the bind prophet for answers and after threating the prophet s life he gets the
full truth. Oedipus learns that he is destined to kill his father and marry his mother,
so he decides
Controversy over the Drinking Age
For decades now, the issue of what age should be considered the proper age to
drink alcohol has been intensely debated. Since the 1980s, the nationwide legal
drinking age has been 21 and older for the United States. However, this age limit
imposed on the consumption of alcohol was controversial then, and it continues to be
so today. In 2008, John McCardell, leader of Choose Responsibility and former
president of Middlebury College, joined a campaign known as the Amethyst Initiative
, which proposed lowering the drinking age to an unspecified number (Amethyst
Initiative). In conjunction with this initiative, McCardell wrote an article entitled
Rethinking the drinking age of 21 . On the other hand, an article in the Chicago
Tribune called... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet the Chicago Tribune challenges McCardell s belief that lowering the drinking
age will result in safer drinking. The Chicago Tribune states, legalizing something
generally invites more indulgence, not less. It is the belief of the Chicago Tribune
that taking part in a greater consumption of alcohol can hardly be safe. The
Chicago Tribune reinforces this belief with a statistic, stating that when states
lowered their drinking ages in the 1970s, alcohol related crashes involving teens
rose. For this reason, the Chicago Tribune disagrees with the claim that a lower
drinking age will result in safer drinking. Although McCardell and the Chicago
Tribune seem to be at irreconcilable odds on the matter, both appear to share a
common value: the safety of individuals. For instance, McCardell argues that
statistics do not really prove why the legal drinking age of 21 results in greater safety
for everyone, and he worries about the repercussions that the drinking age has had
on the safety of college students. Meanwhile, the Chicago Tribune uses statistics to
express its belief that the drinking age of 21 is safer than that of a lower drinking
age, and that lowering the drinking age will only cause more harm to individuals, not
result in their safety. Both essays are primarily concerned with which drinking age
will lead to the optimal safety of the individual. Perhaps this common ground can lead
to a compromise within the debate concerning the legal drinking age.
Rastafari Religion
The presence of Supreme Being, one that is believed to be the giver of life to the
living has been recognized by many religions. In the list of the religions, Rastafari
is one of them. Its belief and originality is believed to have originated from the land
of Ethiopia where the recognized savior was King Haile Selassie (Wittmann, 2011).
The religionhas unique belief in the ability of the Supreme Being to control, the world
and that He has the supreme powers that no one can compete with.
The believers growing dreadlocks characterize the culture of the religion and they
consider smoking of cannabis as sacred. Any member that purports to be a

Business Continuity And Disaster Recovery
This chapter began with the evaluation of several disaster that has wreaked havoc in
many way to nations and which consequently had rendered many businesses
inoperable and many lives unbalanced. This chapter described how flood, fires,
terrorists attacks, tornadoes, and vandalism among others had taken its toll in
destroying many businesses. Since businesses depend on people, systems and many
other resources for its daily activities and functionality, any disruption of services will
definitely affect the health of such business. If a business went down more than
expected time as a result of any of the above mentioned disaster, this chapter
indicated that it could result to the death of such business forever. Invariably, this
chapter advised that companies should plan for disaster in order to heighten their
chances of getting back to business as soon as possible after a disaster hit the
company. This chapter, however, discussed about business continuity and disaster
recovery. This chapter defined business continuity as a process of making sure that
company are brought back to life in a situation where there is a long term outage as a
result of disaster. Business continuity involve methods, processes, and procedure that
facilitate continuous performance of business of an organization that just
experienced a disaster. The business continuity management, according to this chapter
ensure that all resources that is required to keep business moving even after disaster
is kept
Stratified Sampling Definition
This method would be more appropriate than stratified sampling, as I want each
group to be the same, regardless of where they are from. Stratified sampling would
allow me to represent groups based on male female ratios per town or city, but since
each group is going to be assigned an equal number of participants, cluster samplingis
the better option. From this point I will use a two step version of systematic
sampling. First, I will break up the groups into male and female categories, and then
use systematic sampling within these divisions to choose which participants to study.
Considering that this experiment does not entail administration of medication or
other physical items, I could stop after breaking up the population into clusters, but
for the sake or narrowing down my participatory groups as well as cost savings, it
makes sense to further narrow down prospective... Show more content on

Sampling will be relatively easy, by selecting male and female groups from within
groups of college educated individuals, and the budget will be compromised almost
entirely by paying the researchers and possibly compensation for the participants,
so it is a low cost project as well. Literature has documented the difference between
men and women in the job market, so it would be interesting as well as informative
to create my own research study to better understand such a phenomenon. Following
this study, it would be interesting to follow up on my findings, to further understand
exactly where the differences lie; is it a socially drawn difference, a biological
difference, or another option? The first step is, of course, to understand as best we
can that there is a difference before we can make these next attempts at furthering our
knowledge, and this study should be able to provide just the foundation that we

What Is The Role Of Coal Miners In The 1930 s
their conviction, it was the striking miners who negotiated with the coal operators.
Dan Moar represented the miners and was successful in signing a temporary

5.The coal miners were paid 25 cents for, every ton of coal that they dug, hand

forced to do extra work such as laying tracks, pumping water, timbering and clearing
roof falls that were not part of the pay.

Longboarding Vs Longboard Research Paper
The feeling riders get as they are skating around town on a nice sunny day, with all
of their buddies, is one of the best feelings in the world. Many people do not know
this, but there is actually more than one type of skating. The two biggest types are
skateboarding and longboarding. There are many similarities and differences
between the two. The first being the length and style of the deck. Longboards are
generally longer and shaped differently than a regular skateboard. Second, would be
how the board is ridden and the different tricks riders can do on each type of board.
Regardless, people can ride and cruise on either type. The last comparison is the

Most of the time, longboards are more expensive than skateboards because they
have bigger trucks, wheels, and the deck is longer. This is not always the case
though. If a skateboard is more expensive than a longboard, the longboard is more
than likely a cheaper made board with lower quality trucks and wheels. This does
not mean the board is terrible, it just means it was made cheaper so that more
people can afford to buy it. Skateboards are the same way. The good brands of
skateboard decks like Baker, Anti Hero, Plan B, Deathwish, etc... are normally $40
$60. Longboards decks, especially brands like Sector 9, Globe, Landyachtz, etc... can
start at around $75 and can get up to over $200 for just the deck. Even though every
board is different in price, they are all equally as enjoyable to

Conspiracy Theories And The Conspiracy Theory
Conspiracy Analysis In today, society innumerable conspiracy theories discuss what
could have occurred. Furthermore, these conspiracy theories are not a fact, but it is
an opinion formed by the people who believes that there is something that is kept
hidden from the general public. Unfortunately, this information about numerous
conspiracies always been a mystery, which the expert who worked in this field for
decades are struggling to unravel the mystery. Not to mention Area 51and the Alien is
a conspiracy that withstood the test of time, lasting for several decades. In addition,
Area 51 and the Alien conspiracy theorycommence by discussing how the remnant
of the crashed UFO spacecraft is inside Area 51. To clarify, Area 51 is an Air Force
base about 90 miles north from Las Vegas (Aliens, An Introduction To The Truth They
Exist). It was in Area 51 base where the government scientist attempt to reconstruct
the aliens highly advanced technology. Furthermore, various strategies were
employing to enhance the point that the government is hiding the crashed UFO in a
secret base and attempting to reconstruct this device. The rhetorical strategies
utilized by the conspiracy theorist were ethos, pathos, and logos. To begin with,
pathos is heavily used to prove that there was a UFO that crashed in Area 51. For
example, an old picture of a warning sign of Area 51 outlining what should not

Swot Analysis Of Delta Air Lines
In 2012, Delta Air Lines had emerged like the phoenix, from the ashes of a 2008,
Chapter 11 bankruptcy to become the second largest airline worldwide. Through its
network of operations, Delta provides air transport both domestically and
internationally for cargo, mail, and passengers. In the past, Delta successfully
utilized mergers and acquisitions to increase its market share and grow its existing
service base. Since 2012, Delta has been aggressively seeking out new opportunities
for further growth in a volatile market with high price elasticity and low brand
loyalty. The 2008 merger with Northwest Airlinesleft Delta with higher long term
debt, making Delta vulnerable limited debt assumption required for future growth.

Delta can utilize these current benefits to emerge as a lower cost option through its
increased buying power and lower overhead costs, allowing Delta to gain higher
margins while maintaining competitive pricing with its main two competitors,
American Airlines and United Airlines. Additionally, the efficiency of the reduced
fuel and operations cost structure enables Delta to set its pricing lower than that of
its competitors, which, in the end, will capture much of its competitor s market share
including that of its mid line competitor US Airways. The increased buying power
for fuel contracts will give Delta a competitive advantage should we see another spike
in crude oil due to conflicts in the Middle East. Delta must also compete with the
value pricing of its lower end, economy competitors Southwest and Jet Blue.
Southwest Airlines stands out in the pack and boasts, according to a customer
satisfaction index, the highest customer satisfaction rating in the industry at 81% in
2011.
Finding of Fact 2
Delta is forced to compete with low cost carriers.
As the old adage goes, if you can t beat them, join them . Delta s current business
model makes it incredibly difficult to compete with low cost airline carriers. The
acquisition of Southwest would not center on product differentiation but rather as the
product or commodity when compared to Delta s competitors. Delta has long proved
that it is incapable of merging with or sustaining a low cost airline. The
Essay on My Religious Belief
My Religious Belief
I am a Christian and I believe in the Holy trinity: God, the Son, the Holy Spirit.
God is the most high God, all powerful, all knowing, the creator, full of unfailing
love and truth, God is the only true God. He is the light.
Jesus is the son of God, he is God in the flesh, he came into this world for two
purposes, to teach us how to live on earth and because God so loved the world that
he gave his only begotten son, Jesus. Jesus died on cross for our sins, and is sitting at
God s right hand today.
The Holy Spirit is the spirit of love that dwells in each and every last one of us, it is
not a part of the body so if the body dies, the spirit will continue to live. Because love
never dies.

God wants our attention right now. God said that if we take one step, he will take
two. He said this to encourage our relationship with him and to reinforce the fact that
he loves us and will never turn his back on us, even if we are living in sin.
However, in order for us to truly have a relationship with God (take the first step);
we must first accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We have to accept Christ
as our Savior because we can t have a personal relationship with God as long as we
are with sin .In order to make atonement for our sins, we have to accept Christ. To
accept Christ, which can be done anywhere, anytime and anyplace, is taking the
first step to building a relationship with God, we must confess of our sins, repent of
our sins, confess with our mouth that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior and he
died on the cross for our sins, and finally, have faith in our prayers (what we just
said, or simply put, just talking to God). By following the steps mentioned above,
we are considered born again Christians and can now have a loving relationship
with God. Although it is not required, Christians also get baptized in holy water to
cleanse the body (flesh) of all of its sin, generally the same day they accept Jesus as
their Savior. Christians prefer to do this step because Jesus was
Queen Elizabeth s Life And Accomplishments
Queen Elizabeth was born to Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn of England at
Greenwich Palace on September 7, 1533. She was named after her grandmothers,
Elizabeth of York and Elizabeth Howard. She was a great disappointment because
her father wanted a boy. Her mother was executed of false charges if incest and
adultery on May 19, 1536. Her father then married his third wife Jane Seymour
who passed while giving birth to Henry s long wanted son, Edward. At a young
age it was very obvious that she was very gifted at learning and was well educated.
In January of 1547 her father died and his son became King Edward VI. Henry was
too young to rule himself due to the fact that he was only nine years old, so his
uncle, Edward Seymour became Protector of

We determined the LULC type using information from the Fourth National Forest

total of 11 classes (see Table 2), using information on the cover of trees, shrubs and
herbs (grasses and forbs) and the identity of the three dominant tree species and
their relative dominance, as provided in the IFN4. Areas with no or very scarce
vegetation (e.g., water bodies, beaches, or artificial surfaces such as industrial or
urban areas) were excluded, as well as the less frequent LULCs (grasslands,
Mediterranean forests and Acacia woods), due to the low number of fires in WUI

Affirmative Action programs were set in place to stop any discrimination in the

tremendous repercussions. As seen in chapter 8 of Nan Mooney s book I Can t

The Sexuality Of Female Sexuality
In modern societies, where all the former taboos on sex are abolished, one subject
can still raise a wave of debates. People of almost all religious views and social
orders are ready to accept and be tolerant to homosexual or bisexual people, but the
issue over the female sexuality is still unsettled. The question how it differs from the
malesexuality and why exactly the attitude to femalesexuality is different compared to
the male one is discussed by lots of psychologists, sociologists and philosophers.
However, there is no coherent and competent explanation yet. Sexuality is messy,
passionate, unclear, tentative, anxiety producing, liberating, frightening,
embarrassing, consoling, appetitive, and cerebral (Schwartz, 1994, p. 8),... Show more

She writes that it is an established fact that the idea of female sexuality prevalent
over the centuries is not something given in nature, or biologically true, but is only
a cultural construction (Kar, 2015, p. 24). Kar considers that by being culturally
constructed, it absorbed lots of means to disempower women, and the medical
sciences together with literature is two most powerful tools of this cultural
absorption. Cultural oppression and suppression constitute this process.
According to Kar (2015), within this system, female sexuality was believed to be
essentially passive (p. 24). People believed this because they were taught that
biologically female sexual organs were devoted to serve only one function that is
reproductive one. Sexual fulfillment was out of the question, a luxury that women
could not afford. Women were considered to be less sexually desirous compared to
men. They were obliged to seek fulfillment by following their natural destiny ,
namely to be a good wife and mother. This all formed the stereotype of ideal female
sexuality that is close to neutral because women should be modest, passive and even
passionless. Such norm of sexual behavior was deeply rooted in many cultures and
societies around the globe. However, some people were adherent to this norm, while
others became the aberrant. Some women claimed that they had as much of the right
to speak about sex as men. At the same time, each society tried to calm those who
New Year Eve Party Essay
New Year s Eve has become one of the biggest days of the year for parties and
events throughout the world. Therefore, an unlimited amount of events are planned
and executed on the last day of the year; this year I attended a New Year eve party
at the house of a co worker. The party was held in a neighborhood just inside the city
of Charlotte. It has been a while since I attended a house party, so there are some
aspects that come along with a house party that will increase the amount of risk
associated with the staging of the New Year Eve party. The name of the event was
Shari and Cue s New Year Eve party; the event was held on December 31, 2015. The
party started at 9:00pm, and was scheduled to end at 2:00 am January 1, 2016.

The event was held at a house so the facility was well managed. There was one
entrance into the basement, which led to the crowd being forced to use the same
stairway to enter and exit the through the same area. I would have suggested that
the event planners had selected another venue to hold the party because the party
had a cramped feeling to it. Therefore, the exit and entrance was clearly marked,
but it was a lack of actually signs used to identify the exit and entrance. The nature
of the event made the need for security to be moot, everyone that was invited to the
event was friends of the party host. Thus, security may have been overkill at an
event of this scale. The event was lacking ADA accommodations, if there was an
attendee that need ADA accommodations to make to the basement where the
majority of the activities were being held, then the lack of wheelchair access would
have been an issue. When planning an event, the scale and scope of the event is
vital to consider the size of the crowd that will be attending the event. The New Year
Eve party had between 50 60 attendees throughout the course of the event. Based on
the information provided by the event planner, there was probably 15 more guest
than they initial planned to host at the party. The location of the event caused the
flow of the traffic to become a possible issue. When holding an event in a private
neighborhood, there will be a limited number
Characteristics Of People Born In Different Generations
From war hero conservatives to righteous college protesters to tech savvy teenagers,
there are defining characteristics of people born in different eras. Many do not
realize how much their environment and its history impacts them as a whole. The
progression of history changes the conditions entire groups of people grow up in,
which leads those groups to differ from each other in life. This type of group is
called a generation. Each generation has its own events that happened in its lifetime
(Ovadia). As a result, they all have widely differing characteristics and views that
come from things like the state of the economy, current technology, parenting style,
war, politics, or even the media; and all of this changes after a period of time (Neal).
There are different generationsin every country or part of the world because of how
many cultural and historical contrasts there are between nations. Modern America s
living generations are called the G.I. Generation (or the Greatest Generation), the
Baby Boomer Generation, Generation X, and the Millennials. The reason why none
of them are exactly the same is the fact that none of them have truly experienced, or
will ever experience, what the other ones have grown up with or, in most cases,
without (Ovadia). People born into different generations are influenced by various
factors within their era and generally develop based on those influences. Before
understanding generational differences, it must be understood what a generation

Medical records refer to data and information that pertains the medical history of
patients. Medical records are an important component of health care as it ensures
that monitoring of patient health is made easier. It is important to document
medical records to be able to manage health and diagnosis of diseases adequately.
According to the Joint Commission, there should be a standard of measure of
recording medical records to facilitate easy retrieval by medical assistants. There are
several approaches to maintaining medical records in a hospital. The standard
methods include paperwork and electronic. All these methods are still usable, but
special care should be made when an organization is shifting from paperwork to

In spite of the fact that these materials may have characterized a legal record in paper
terms (e.g., requiring a medicine sheet as opposed to an electronic prescription

The second step is to decide if the records are made by the supplier or facilities
ordinary course of business. Source framework or unprocessed information are the
information from which translations, rundowns, and notes are determined. They
might be assigned some portion of the legitimate health record, regardless of
whether they are incorporated into a solitary framework or kept up as a significant
aspect of the source framework (McGinn et al., 2010).
Records from source frameworks might be considered some portion of the lawful
health record in view of the substance of the origin system s history. Generally,
reports or discoveries whereupon clinical primary leadership is based are parts of the
health record. For instance, the composed consequence of a test, for example, a

Gothic style came about in the middle of the twelfth century. It was named after the
Goths that controlled France during that time. It was developed as a result of
Christian ideals. Christian leaders wanted big, tall, ornate churches to represent their
strong faith. Later it was also used for non religious buildings such as castles, walls,
bridges, and gates. Citizens of the time period wanted striking, rich looking churches
to represent their success and wealth, also leading to Gothic style. Common Gothic

In the Middle Ages The Black Plague hit the population. Because of a declining
population, other aspects of life were affected negatively such as agriculture and
politics. The Renaissance, however, saw a turn around for Europe. There were new
beginnings in the government and the life of it s citizens. There was a major culture
shift from the 14th to the 16th century. In the Middle Ages, many people were
suffering from disease and starvation. It was not a stable time for Europe. The
Hundred Year s War compounded their problems. Europeans lost faith in the church
resulting in a decline of religious faiths. There were a large amount of Popes going
through the Catholic Church during that time known as the Great Schism. The
Schism lasted for forty years and resulted from financial mismanagement in the
church. The Renaissance was an opportunity to reform European society. Humanism
became a common philosophy. Individualism and education were now important.
Life did not revolve around religion and the church had less power. More people saw
themselves as a greater being than God. The influence of Renaissance Architecture on
the rest of the world was significant. There are many government buildings in North
American that are modeled after the classical, symmetrical lines of the Renaissance
period. Modern architects still study and try to reproduce the beauty, simplicity, and
magnificence of Renaissance

It is internally focused because it involves motivating, mobilizing, co opting, and
managing employees. It is externally focused because it is designed to improve the
way a company serves its customers. Therefore, internal marketing provides a way to
encourage employees to continually improve the way they serve customers and each
other. Third, an increase in employee satisfaction motivates workers to be more
engaged and, as a result, they are more likely to rake actions that result in increased
guest satisfaction and profitability. For example, Spinelli and Canavos suggest that
the most satisfied employees respond best to the needs of individual guests, which
increases the overall level of satisfaction of the guests. (3) Fourth, one of the most
difficult things to manage in organizations is change. For organizations in transition,
internal marketing is crucial. Internal marketing helps reinforce and develop a culture
where the need for change is understood and accepted. As a result, the organization is
more successful at implementing new strategies, which improves the chances that the
strategies will be successful. Positive Employee Behavior One of the basic benefits
of successful internal marketing is the ability to motivate employees to practice

America has a long, detailed history of social, political, and cultural discourse that
have become the main subjects of Latin films during the last 50 years. It has been
beneficial for Latin countries to see these issues play out in films through because it
helps people understand the creation of the modern society that they live. Although
there is a wide range of national issues dealt with in this film, I will be examining the
similarities and differences between films that depict the colonization of Latin
America and films that are based in a modern city. The Other Conquest,

have worked to be successful. In the Outliers book Malcolm Gladwell argues that we
should look at the world that surrounds successful people. For instance their culture,
family, experiences, and their upbringing. Gladwell has made an interesting argument
about how people become successful. In this paper, I will be talking about how
Bradley Byrne, US Representative for Alabamabecame successful using some

Chile holds an intriguing and eventful past, as well as a promising and developing

improve it as well as improve the lives of the Chilean people. Isabel Allende writes
about Chile in her short story Phantom Palace , as she highlights the country s
economy, history and government, as well the culture of Chile. Chile s diverse and
rich history has led to a unique blending of cultures and traditions throughout the
country. Chile has the traditional Latin American history in the sense that the country

Throughout the story Allende makes many different reference to the Chilean way
of life, highlighting the culture, traditions, history and economy of Chile. On page
796, she states that Europe consumed more coffee, cocoa, and bananas then we as
a nation could produce, but all that demand was no bonanza for us: we continued
to be as poor as ever. She is discussing the exploitation of the natural resources that
Chile had to offer, by the Spanish. When the spanish conquered Chile, they
exploited the people and the land, forcing them to export all of the natural
resources, yet the Chilean people did not earn anything in return, and they
continued to live in poverty. Allende then goes on to discuss how after oil was
discovered, many thought that the hard times were over, yet this was not the case.
Toward the end of the Great War there was a widely held notion that ours was a
prosperous country, when in truth most of the inhabitants still squished mud beneath
their toes (Allende, p. 796). When dictator Pinochet was in charge, the country was
indeed very wealthy, yet only the top 1% of the country saw any of this wealth at
all. The vast majority of the citizens of Chile still live in extreme poverty and
suffered. Allende later discusses the culture and the advances that are being made in
Chile. In the capital there signs of progress: motorcars, movie houses, ice cream
parlors, a hippodrome, and a theatre
Importance of Communications in an Organization
Importance of Communications in an Organization

Abstract
The accelerating pace of change is creating an exceptional level of turbulence in even
the most well run organizations today. Combined with uncertainty over roles,
responsibilities and jobs, employees are more anxious and concerned with the future
direction of the organizations they are members of than ever before. That s why
communications within organization is so critical today, specifically the areas of
leadership and change management. If one looks across the best performing
organizations today, it becomes clear why they are excelling despite increased
competition and turbulence. Their internal communications structures and systems
are organized to provide the greatest level of certainty and transparency possible
while also continually concentrating on challenging goals and objectives.
Importance of Communications in an Organization
What galvanizes an organization together, makes it unique and highly differentiated
in competitive markets, and infuses a level of confidence and clarity in their
employees as to their roles, is the quality of communication it has. Communications
throughout an organization need to be fluid and capable of quickly traversing the
most uncharted and uncertain areas of a new opportunity, while also stabilizing
information flows throughout its existing structure (Lesikar, 1981). The aspects of
excellent communication have more to do with how well

Media And Social Media
According to dictionary.com, the word media is defined as the means of
communication, as radio and television, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet, that
reach or influence people widely. By definition, the media is constantly swarming
the public audience day in and day out while never coming to a halt. National and
global coverage from the mediais essential for all people who desire staying up to
date with the current events that are occurring all over the world. Although there are
many different forms of media, while reflecting over a three day period of how I
personally use media, I have come to realize many things. Most of my observations
will be discussed throughout this essay.
First of all, I can fully admit that I am very guilty of being considered an addicted
media user. Before this assignment, I wasn t consciously aware of how often I
check my phone for social media posts or my laptop for online news articles. The
results were actually alarming; I ve come to believe that I am on my phone far too
often throughout the day. The media outlets that I use the most often is Snapchat,

Australi A Sensational Place
In 2013, British comedian John Oliver stated Australia turned out to be a sensational
place. Albeit, one of the most comfortably racist I ve ever been in (Waterland, 2013).
Racism is when a certain group of people belief they are superior to another which
leads to discrimination. Australia is a multicultural country with its diversity
highlighted through the lifestyles, food and traditions of those living there. It is hard
to imagine such a culturally diverse country can be considered racist, however racism
has been embedded in Australian society and culture since its colonisation in 1788.
Australian law and people can be racist and often are in denial about their racist ways.
Racism in Australia has been implanted since the period of colonisation. Due to
overcrowding in British prisons, British explorers went looking for land to settle and
send the convicts. Prior to finding Australia, the original Indigenous inhibitors had
been thriving off the land. According to statistics, The Indigenous population of
Australia was reduced by an estimated 90% between 1788 and 1900 (Harris, 2003).
This massive decline was due to the introduction to new diseases that the Aboriginals
had not been exposed to and also from to the violent attacks and mass shootings on
the Indigenous as the Europeans expanded through Australia. The Indigenous felt
dispossessed from of the land through the White s violent acts of dominance and
superiority. The racist views of the white can be depicted
Summary Of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis s The President...
Summary: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is a biography on the former First Lady
and widow of President John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States.
The author, Ellen Ladowsky tells her life story beginning with her parent s
engagement and marriage to her unfortunate death. The book is divided into
sections based on major life events, such as her childhood, the White House years,
the assassination of her husband, and remarriage. Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was born
July 28, 1929 to Janet Lee Bouvier and John Jack Bouvier III. She was born in the
New York Hamptons where her parents would spend their summers. She was named
after her father and her parents gave her the nickname Jackie (Ladowsky 5). Jackie s
parents each came from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hugh was a wealthy investment banker and also had family wealth attributed to
his grandfather s partnership with John D. Rockefeller in Standard Oil (Ladowsky
14). Janet and her daughters moved to Merrywood, the 46 acre Auchincloss estate
in McLean, Virginia. They spent their summers in Newport, Rhode Island at the
Auchincloss property known as Hammersmith Farm (Ladowsky 14). Janet and
Hugh had two more children, Janet Jr. in 1945 and Jamie in 1947 (Ladowsky 18
19). Jackie s high school years were spent attending boarding school at the
exclusive Miss Porter s in Farmington, Connecticut (Ladowsky 16). Following high
school, Jackie enrolled at Vassar College (Ladowsky 25). She was an excellent
student although she was described as being very private and shy by those around
her at the time. Jackie attended Vassar for two years and then spent her third year
of college studying in Paris, France (Ladowsky 28). She returned to the United
States to complete her senior year at George Washington University in Washington
D.C. (Ladowsky 30). She graduated in 1951 with a degree in French literature. It
is thought that her year spent in Paris was very influential in the development of
her famous sense of style (Ladowsky 30). Jackie s first job following college was as
a roving photographer at the Washington Times Herald (Ladowsky 36). Jackie s
mother seemed to be very concerned that her daughter would
D-Day Facts
D day, the battle you truly didn t know about. What do you know about D day? A
lot of people only know that it was during WWII or that it was a very bloody battle
for both sides. But regular people don t know the weapons of the Americans, the
British, or the Germans. Maybe the common people don t know what fully
happened on D day, or maybe they don t know all of the casualties and debt both
sides faced. But who would know all these facts except for someone doing an
essay? Maybe Jordan. This first paragraph will tell of the events where taken place
on this historical advantage of America and D day. The Battle of Normandy was
the last great set piece battle of the western world. (Badsey Pg 6.) If the Allied
front didn t strategically win this fight, the Germans would ve won the Second
World War. So one of the main things performed on D day was an air mission
known as Operation Overlord , an airdrop of Air Force Division 101 and Air Force
Division 82 from above the Normandy beaches. They dropped a couple minutes after
midnight , becoming very separated from everyone others after drop, land... Show

Americans were usually armed with a Colt 1911A1, a Thompson M1A1
submachine gun, and some Mark II A1 frag grenades. Sometimes they were

some Stielhandgranate 24 hand grenades. The special hill bunker squads had MG

had the least amount of arms when it came to weapons, but drastically made it up in
the vehicles they brought to D day. A common British soldier was typically armed
with an Enfield NВ°2 Mark 1, and a Sten Mark
Lighting Technician Personal Statement
Throughout my degree I have always been sure that I wanted to pursue a career as a
lighting technician (or spark) in the film industry. I have always held an interest in
this area of the industry as my Brother Charlie Jenkins (http://www.imdb.com/name
/nm5340410/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) is a successful lighting technician and through him I
was given some early insight into a career which for me amalgamates creativity and
a trade skill. I plan to go straight into the industry working as a freelance lighting
technician or lighting trainee using the contacts that I have made over the last couple
of years. Although generally Freelancers can expect to earn around ВЈ11,000 less
than those in a permanent position in the creative industries in the UK (Creative...

The First contact I made were as a result of my brother, who put me in contact with
gaffer Aaron Walters (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1094618/ ) who offered me
paid work on the short film The Hope Rooms (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4962566

(http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0122832/), who I have worked with several times
now since November 2015. Although I was lucky enough to get an introduction
through my brother, this type of informal approach is common in the film industry
with 56% (Creative Skillset, 2014) of employees working in the creative industry
finding out about their most recent job through informal recruitment methods. One
aspect that makes becoming a Lighting Technician attractive is that you can be
expected to be paid for your work almost immediately. Lighting is heavily unionized
through BECTU and in my experience, most Gaffers will insist on their lighting
team being paid the recommended BECTU rates (2016) of ВЈ315 (Shooting Crew
Feature), ВЈ276 (Rigging Crew Feature) and ВЈ250 (Commercial which also covers
music promos). The BECTU Recommended rates are there to prevent Lighting Techs
being underpaid for what is both one of the most dangerous and physically
demanding jobs in the film industry. It also prevents Lighting Technicians
Undercutting each others prices, which eventually

Analysis Of The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara Kingsolver
In the novel The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, Nathan Price, the
dominant male figure, is a closed minded and egotistical individual who causes a
rift between himself and his family, for whom he has little concern in comparison to
his misguided hopes of saving the tribes of Ham, as well as his ultimate reason for
his mission: spreading God to so called sinners. Nathan not only physically alienates
himself, his four daughters, and his wife from the comfort of their prideful Southern
home by forcing them to accompany him on his year long mission to save the Congo,
but also emotionally alienates himself by personifying the stereotypical white
misogynistic male of the 1960s, which ultimately leads to the spiritual alienation of

Nathan claims that for the sinners to truly be reborn they must first be baptized,
just as Jesus said let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all
righteousness (Matthew 3.15). However, the tribe members refuse baptism, due to
the dangers lurking in the depths of its murky water. The author depicts Nathan s
selfish nature through his unwillingness to accept the tribe s simple request. To
illuminate how far Nathan is willing to go to spread his ideas of God, as well as
his overwhelming God complex, the author sacrifices Ruth May, Nathan s
youngest child. When told of her death, Nathan does not take responsibility for
what happens, but instead simply says she wasn t baptized yet, which stirs a new
filmy hatred in his children, particularly Leah, who had once seen reason behind
Nathan s trek to the Congo, but now sees the painful truth behind the journey.
Through her father s outlandish behavior, Leah discovers that Nathan not only
physically isolates her from the beauty of the world, but also spiritually binds her to
his own misconceptions of God. She [feels] the breath of God go cold on her skin as
she realizes her father s simplistic idea of God is the driving force of her and her
family s alienation, not the Congo or the individuals who reside there. As a result to
Nathan s behavior, his family loses faith in him and flees the Congo as a civil war
breaks loose, and he is left alone, and is eventually murdered for his
Elitism In Government
The ability to compel another person to comply with one s intentions is known as
power. Authority is a form of power that takes its force from legitimacy, political
authority that is assigned by the law or the state through legal documents. The
government is an institution that is based upon authority. There are various ways in
which authoritycan be conferred upon a governmental institution and many opinions
on how it should be used. Thomas Jefferson states that a good governmentshould be
considerate of the people s needs, and should concern itself with protecting its citizens
without interfering with citizens personal affairs. According to this interpretation, the
government must be restricted in its authority, should act in the interests... Show more

In a government such as Jefferson describes, majoritarian politics is most fitting.
Majoritarian politics generally occurs when the government considers issues
important to the people. The people have more power because pressure from the
majority opinion is exerted on the leader. Meanwhile, elitism occurs when public
opinion is largely absent, giving leaders greater freedom to act in self interest.
There are several theories of elitism: Marxism, which describes power as being in
the hands of business leaders, a view exemplified by the influence held by
American capitalists; the power elite theory, in which key leaders in society control
and are served by the government, can be seen in the influence held by the media
and wealthy members of society; the bureaucratic view, which holds the official as
the vessel of power and hand behind administrative action, and may be exemplified
by members of Congress, who deliberate amongst themselves on matters that may
concern the public; and the pluralist view, which describes various powerful groups
in government and politics as cooperating with each other while being aware of the
public opinion in order to maintain popularity. This is observed in the cooperation
between various branches of government and powerful organizations. Elitism allows
for more self interest. Although a self interested government does not necessarily
dictate that policies will be unbeneficial for the people, it is on the whole detrimental
and less restricted than the ideal Jefferson held for government. A majoritarian
government is best suited to Jefferson s idea of
Focus Group Case Study Whole Foods
Whole Foods in recent years has poorly performed in recent years. The company s
stock price plunged 46% year over year, as well cutting workforce, and changing the
organization s structure. Organic food has become the main trend, leading to stronger
competition. The United States organic sales marked a new record of 43.3 billion in
2015, the industry is growing tremendously. Consumers are getting involved and
concern about environmental and health issues; since the 1990s, the demand for
organic products has been growing by double digits and 84 percent of American
consumers rather buy an organic product over a regular product, according to

The purpose is to run open discussions allowing everybody to speak and share on
the topic. One objective is to gain many details, patterns, and understand deep
insights. We don t want anybody to feel intimidated or uncomfortable, the team
must select the right participants to conduct an efficient group. It is crucial to set
up an outline with the steps of the focus group. It is necessary to learn their
attributes and characteristics; more importantly, what is driving them to shop
organic. Also, the interaction and role they play with their kids, what kind of
essentials are a must when they are shopping. The idea is to have different points
of view; selecting a diverse group in age, race, gender, professionals, those who
work in creative fields, and family size. The comparisons are going to help us
analyze and determine their perception when shopping organic. The data and the
statistics researched by the team are going to be very useful to develop the right
questions. In the questions, the team should generate creative questions that provide
examples, reflections, and experiences. Therefore, listening to keywords,
consistency, frequency, and intensity because it leads to discovering big ideas.
Lastly, the company needs to motivate the participants to come and participate in the
focus group; the invitation should explain the purpose, the time and place, why
their opinion is crucial for not only our company but beneficial for them as well, and

Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Essay

  • 1. Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Essay Crafting an essay on the topic "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" can be both challenging and intellectually stimulating. Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel is rich in themes, symbolism, and cultural intricacies, making it a compelling subject for analysis. However, diving into this literary work requires a deep understanding of Latin American literature, magical realism, and the socio- cultural context of the time. One of the difficulties lies in interpreting the ambiguous nature of the narrative. Marquez weaves a complex web of perspectives, making it challenging to discern objective truths from subjective perceptions. The narrative structure, with its non-linear timeline and fragmented storytelling, demands careful attention to detail and a keen ability to connect the dots coherently. Furthermore, the essay must delve into the cultural and historical aspects that permeate the novel. Exploring the role of honor, societal expectations, and the impact of the Latin American setting adds layers of complexity to the analysis. Readers must navigate the cultural nuances to appreciate the characters' motivations and the unfolding of events. To create a compelling essay, one must grapple with the moral ambiguity presented in the narrative. The characters' actions and societal norms may seem perplexing or even contradictory to readers unfamiliar with the cultural context. Unraveling these complexities and presenting a nuanced interpretation requires a thoughtful and thorough exploration of the text. In conclusion, writing an essay on "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" demands more than just a superficial understanding of the plot. It requires a deep dive into the cultural, historical, and literary intricacies, making it a challenging yet rewarding endeavor for those who undertake it. Whether it was your parent or teachersg7u as a kid you followed authorities regardless without understanding the reason behind it. As we get older, we started putting pieces together why we shouldn t use drugs based on experience. Going on questioning why do people do drugs that are supposedly bad for your health? Why the government legalized drugs that are harmful to society? Unlike cigarettes and alcohol, marijuana seem more appealing to get legalized. Debates on legalizing marijuana have went on since the existence of the plant: different researchers have come up with their own findings. Regardless of what effect it has, everyone going to have their opinions based on assumptions. One thing they should keep in mind is that, cannabisis a plant that grow naturally: Therefore, it should have the same right as alcohol, and cigarettes that are man made and legal. • 4. Descartes Discourse On The Method In part two of the Discourse on the Method, Descartes is inquiring about how he can be certain that his acquired judgements are true. Upon inquiring, he compares his acquired judgments to buildings, which several have tried to patch up by adapting old walls built for different purposes, to explain that a building is typically more structurally sound when it is made up of just one craftsman (25). Consequently, making it such that judgments are also more structurally sound when they are governed by just one party; that one party being himself. As opposed to being governed by our appetites and our teachers, which, in often, times are opposed to each other; therefore, making such judgments unfit to hold as true (25). Once it has been established... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Accordingly, if he did not already possess the knowledge to know in that moment that the judgment was true, he did not accept it, which is a plausible thing to do. However, it would seem that this method of experiencing previous judgments would lead to some obstacles, because in order to possess the knowledge to accept the judgment, he would have already had to accept another judgment previously. In the case of basic arithmetic, in order to call into judgment whether or not he believes 2+2=4, he would have to either accept that 2+2=4 on the basis that arithmetic is true, without proving himself that arithmetic is true, hence, accepting a judgment without evident knowledge. Or he would have to deny that 2+2=4 on the basis that arithmetic is false because he cannot prove himself that it is true. In other words, it is widely accepted knowledge that basic arithmetic is true without anyone having proven themselves that it is true, so any accepted judgment of basic arithmetic would be accepted without evident knowledge. Therefore, for this particular rule, I do not agree due to the exceptionality of the rule when it comes to the sciences and

There is great controversy about whether Khufu utilized slave labor in the construction of the pyramid. Evidence from Herodotus suggests that slave labor was used in building the pyramid, however his points can be disproved using archaeological evidence from the period. The statement that the greater the power, the more powerful the abuse apparently does not apply to Khufu, despite what Herodotus has said. Khufu rose to power and accomplished great feats, while simultaneously treating his workers with consideration and respect. The Effects Of The Market Revolution On The 18th Century Jihoon JunDBQ From the early to 18th century the Market Revolution had tremendous and lasting impacts on the Northern, Southern and Western economies. The Revolution brought about new technological inventions as well as an influx of immigrants to new lands. The effects of the Market Revolution on Northern, Western and Southern societies are evident in various ways. For the North, the revolution gave way to the increase in population because of immigrants. Contrary to this, the West experienced advancements and developments in technology due to the Revolution and inventors such as Eli Whitney. Lastly for the South, the Market Revolution created different perceptions on the various social effects the movement had on society. In the Northern society, the Market Revolution gave way to the plethora of immigrants that settled in the North. Between 1840 and 1860 many individuals in different nations sought freedom from poverty, social division and various other factors. In fact, during the mid 18th century, roughly 2 million Irish, 1.5 million Germans, and 750,000 Britons settled in the Northern United States. From this time period, 88% of the immigrants were either English, German or Irish (Doc. 4). This graph clearly illustrates the overall immigration as a whole; however, this document fails to address the fact that this sudden immigration also had some negative consequences. The event also resulted in a fragmented society. In other words, artisan republicans,

The continued launching of spacecraft by NASA and other national space organizations however, as this essay intends to demonstrate, is an antiquity that is nearing the end of its usefulness. The appropriation of space launch capabilities by the private industry is fundamental to increased accessibility to space; furthermore, it is essential for the long term health of the scientific pursuits to which NASA is dedicated. The national space programs of Earth have, so far, failed to provide a reasonable alternative to the obscene costs incurred through the crude launching of payloads into orbit atop massive and failure prone chemical rockets. The increasing privatization of the launch industry has already seen dramatic reductions in the cost of lifting a satellite from the surface of the Earth to LEO. One private organization, SpaceX, has seen enormous success in this area. The company website advertises current
  • 8. The Birth of Fish; The Death of Oceans Essay The Birth of Fish; The Death of Oceans Overview: Life and death are themselves opposites; then again in our oceans, life sometimes causes death. Over the past few decades, the demand for edible seafood has sky rocketed, resulting in the formation of aquacultures and overfishing. As of now, the two greatest threats to our marine resources result from overfishing and water pollution. Commercial fishing targets key fish species, resulting in an imbalance of the marine ecosystem. In response to the near elimination of these species, an industry has developed to raise these species in farm communities. It was the initial belief of many that aquacultures would help offset the demand for more seafood. However, the result of fish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overfishing also disrupts the hierarchy in the food chain as well, since many of the big game fish are targeted by these companies. When this occurs, fishing fleets then start a process known as fishing down, which is a phrase that was started by Pauly (Pauly, par. 12). Because of overfishing, some members of society have decided to farm raise fish for the consumption by humans. Fish farming, otherwise known as aquaculture, was started in hopes of preserving the oceans and providing a reliable source of seafood. In some instances, it does wonders; in other ways it has hurt the oceans greatly. For certain fish species, such as the vegetarian and shellfish eaters, it makes sense to farm them. For fish such as salmon and other carnivorous fish, it is highly inefficient to farm them. Other byproducts of fish farming include the production of waste, the displacing of natural breeding habits, the spreading of disease, and the addition of other pollutants into the ocean (Pros, par. 3). There is an importance in analyzing the differences between the pros and cons to determine whether or not the good outweighs the bad. One of the major factors which leads us to many questions about the ocean is that of pollution. Pollution occurs in many ways that we can and cannot influence. Pollution occurs from human unsanitary conditions, as well as from agriculture and fish farming. For example, in the Florida Keys and

PTSD is a serious mental and emotional disorder that people often don t understand or don t know about. It s defined as a mental illness that develops after a person has lived through a traumatizing event, such as sexual assault, physical abuse, threat of death, or serious injury. Most people who experience a distressing event don t develop PTSD, but for those who do, it s extremely terrifying to go through. Many U.S. veterans have to deal with serious emotional and mental trauma after their time of fighting is over. There aren t any statistics that show exactly how many people and veterans in the U.S. have PTSD, because most veterans don t know they have a mental disorder. They don t seek help; therefore statistics aren t certain. Studies have shown that at least 70% of adults have gone through a traumatic event, and 20% of those people develop PTSD. That s approximately 31.3 million people. Further investigation confirms that women are more likely to develop the illness than men are; approximately 1 out of 10 women will or have had PTSD. Combat veterans are even more likely to be diagnosed with PTSD after returning from the military, and an estimated study says that one out of every five veterans have or will develop the disorder. The military consists of 17% women, and 71% of those women develop PTSD from sexual assault within the ranks. These are studies and estimates

  • 12. The Beauty Of Women Women have had their worth decided by their beauty since the world began. The beauty industry has made millions off telling women that they need this product to matter, literature has been painting women as plot devices or prizes for year, and television tends to only show thin and beautiful women. Even now, women call themselves snacks and delicious as if we only exist to be consumed. We are constantly taught to laugh at jokes we don t find funny, to tear down other women, that our bodies are not our own, and that our value is determined by what size dress we wear. Women are brought up in a society that teaches them that being pretty is the price they must pay to occupy space in the world. Warsan Shire, a British Somali poet said It s not my responsibility to be beautiful. I m not alive for that purpose. My existence is not about how desirable you find me (Shire). However, some femaleauthors have chosen to revolutionize female narratives. Gentlemen Prefer Blondesby Anita Loos and Black Oxen by Gertrude Atherton were a direct challenge to the idea that a womans identity were wrapped up in her beauty. In Loos s Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, a young woman journals about her travels and the men she meets along the way. Initially, one can assume that Lorelei, the protagonist, is simply an airhead who thrives off of the attention of men. The text appears to be playing on a stereotype. However, Loos turns this stereotype on its head as it becomes more clear that Lorelei is

After reading Oedipusthe King and watching Chinatown, it s clear that both stories share similar characteristics such as corruption, lies and even incest. Oedipus the King is a tragedy by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, that follows the story of King Oedipus of Thebes as he discovers that he has unwittingly killed his own father, Laius, and married his own mother, Jocasta. When Oedipus was a baby his parents were told by a prophet that the baby would grow up to kill his father and marry his own mother. • 14. Controversy over the Drinking Age For decades now, the issue of what age should be considered the proper age to drink alcohol has been intensely debated. Since the 1980s, the nationwide legal drinking age has been 21 and older for the United States. However, this age limit imposed on the consumption of alcohol was controversial then, and it continues to be so today. In 2008, John McCardell, leader of Choose Responsibility and former president of Middlebury College, joined a campaign known as the Amethyst Initiative , which proposed lowering the drinking age to an unspecified number (Amethyst Initiative). In conjunction with this initiative, McCardell wrote an article entitled Rethinking the drinking age of 21 . On the other hand, an article in the Chicago Tribune called... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet the Chicago Tribune challenges McCardell s belief that lowering the drinking age will result in safer drinking. The Chicago Tribune states, legalizing something generally invites more indulgence, not less. It is the belief of the Chicago Tribune that taking part in a greater consumption of alcohol can hardly be safe. The Chicago Tribune reinforces this belief with a statistic, stating that when states lowered their drinking ages in the 1970s, alcohol related crashes involving teens rose. For this reason, the Chicago Tribune disagrees with the claim that a lower drinking age will result in safer drinking. Although McCardell and the Chicago Tribune seem to be at irreconcilable odds on the matter, both appear to share a common value: the safety of individuals. For instance, McCardell argues that statistics do not really prove why the legal drinking age of 21 results in greater safety for everyone, and he worries about the repercussions that the drinking age has had on the safety of college students. Meanwhile, the Chicago Tribune uses statistics to express its belief that the drinking age of 21 is safer than that of a lower drinking age, and that lowering the drinking age will only cause more harm to individuals, not result in their safety. Both essays are primarily concerned with which drinking age will lead to the optimal safety of the individual. Perhaps this common ground can lead to a compromise within the debate concerning the legal drinking age.

This chapter described how flood, fires, terrorists attacks, tornadoes, and vandalism among others had taken its toll in destroying many businesses. Since businesses depend on people, systems and many other resources for its daily activities and functionality, any disruption of services will definitely affect the health of such business. • 17. Stratified Sampling Definition This method would be more appropriate than stratified sampling, as I want each group to be the same, regardless of where they are from. Stratified sampling would allow me to represent groups based on male female ratios per town or city, but since each group is going to be assigned an equal number of participants, cluster samplingis the better option. From this point I will use a two step version of systematic sampling. First, I will break up the groups into male and female categories, and then use systematic sampling within these divisions to choose which participants to study. Considering that this experiment does not entail administration of medication or other physical items, I could stop after breaking up the population into clusters, but for the sake or narrowing down my participatory groups as well as cost savings, it makes sense to further narrow down prospective... The first step is, of course, to understand as best we can that there is a difference before we can make these next attempts at furthering our knowledge, and this study should be able to provide just the foundation that we

At that time, the price of coal was lower than it had been in recent years, and the mine workers were facing unsafe working conditions and lower wages. As new strips of mine opened in Saskatchewan, many workers were faced with a wage cut of up to 15 percent. пЃ¶In July and August of 1931, groups of mine workers secretly gathered to discuss how to resolve the concerns regarding unsafe working conditions, wage cuts and to how to form a local organization. пЃ¶The miners appealed to the Trades and Labour Congress of Canada, anticipating that they would help them establish a union, but their requests were

Many people do not know this, but there is actually more than one type of skating. The two biggest types are skateboarding and longboarding. There are many similarities and differences between the two. The first being the length and style of the deck. Longboards are generally longer and shaped differently than a regular skateboard. Most of the time, longboards are more expensive than skateboards because they have bigger trucks, wheels, and the deck is longer. This is not always the case though. If a skateboard is more expensive than a longboard, the longboard is more than likely a cheaper made board with lower quality trucks and wheels. This does not mean the board is terrible, it just means it was made cheaper so that more people can afford to buy it. Skateboards are the same way. The good brands of skateboard decks like Baker, Anti Hero, Plan B, Deathwish, etc... are normally $40 $60. Longboards decks, especially brands like Sector 9, Globe, Landyachtz, etc... can start at around $75 and can get up to over $200 for just the deck. Jesus is the son of God, he is God in the flesh, he came into this world for two purposes, to teach us how to live on earth and because God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, Jesus. He said this to encourage our relationship with him and to reinforce the fact that he loves us and will never turn his back on us, even if we are living in sin. However, in order for us to truly have a relationship with God (take the first step); we must first accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We have to accept Christ as our Savior because we can t have a personal relationship with God as long as we are with sin .In order to make atonement for our sins, we have to accept Christ. To accept Christ, which can be done anywhere, anytime and anyplace, is taking the first step to building a relationship with God, we must confess of our sins, repent of our sins, confess with our mouth that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior and he died on the cross for our sins, and finally, have faith in our prayers (what we just said, or simply put, just talking to God). By following the steps mentioned above, we are considered born again Christians and can now have a loving relationship with God. She writes that it is an established fact that the idea of female sexuality prevalent over the centuries is not something given in nature, or biologically true, but is only a cultural construction (Kar, 2015, p. 24). Kar considers that by being culturally constructed, it absorbed lots of means to disempower women, and the medical sciences together with literature is two most powerful tools of this cultural absorption. Cultural oppression and suppression constitute this process. According to Kar (2015), within this system, female sexuality was believed to be essentially passive (p. 24). People believed this because they were taught that biologically female sexual organs were devoted to serve only one function that is reproductive one. Sexual fulfillment was out of the question, a luxury that women could not afford. Women were considered to be less sexually desirous compared to men. They were obliged to seek fulfillment by following their natural destiny , namely to be a good wife and mother. This all formed the stereotype of ideal female sexuality that is close to neutral because women should be modest, passive and even passionless. Such norm of sexual behavior was deeply rooted in many cultures and societies around the globe. However, some people were adherent to this norm, while others became the aberrant. Some women claimed that they had as much of the right to speak about sex as men. At the same time, each society tried to calm those who

Characteristics Of People Born In Different Generations From war hero conservatives to righteous college protesters to tech savvy teenagers, there are defining characteristics of people born in different eras. Many do not realize how much their environment and its history impacts them as a whole. The progression of history changes the conditions entire groups of people grow up in, which leads those groups to differ from each other in life. This type of group is called a generation. Each generation has its own events that happened in its lifetime (Ovadia). As a result, they all have widely differing characteristics and views that come from things like the state of the economy, current technology, parenting style, war, politics, or even the media; and all of this changes after a period of time (Neal). There are different generationsin every country or part of the world because of how many cultural and historical contrasts there are between nations. Modern America s living generations are called the G.I. Generation (or the Greatest Generation), the Baby Boomer Generation, Generation X, and the Millennials. The reason why none of them are exactly the same is the fact that none of them have truly experienced, or will ever experience, what the other ones have grown up with or, in most cases, without (Ovadia). People born into different generations are influenced by various factors within their era and generally develop based on those influences. • 40. Media And Social Media According to dictionary.com, the word media is defined as the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet, that reach or influence people widely. By definition, the media is constantly swarming the public audience day in and day out while never coming to a halt. National and global coverage from the mediais essential for all people who desire staying up to date with the current events that are occurring all over the world. Although there are many different forms of media, while reflecting over a three day period of how I personally use media, I have come to realize many things. Most of my observations will be discussed throughout this essay. First of all, I can fully admit that I am very guilty of being considered an addicted media user. Before this assignment, I wasn t consciously aware of how often I check my phone for social media posts or my laptop for online news articles. The results were actually alarming; I ve come to believe that I am on my phone far too often throughout the day. The media outlets that I use the most often is Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Buzzfeed, DailyMail and television s nightly news programs such as News 4 New York or NBC Nightly Newswith Lester Holt. In our modern day society, I believe the platforms on social media have become the most commonly used source for media news and entertainment. Aside from just social media, I think the second most used form of media today would be the televised
  • 41. Australi A Sensational Place In 2013, British comedian John Oliver stated Australia turned out to be a sensational place. Albeit, one of the most comfortably racist I ve ever been in (Waterland, 2013). Racism is when a certain group of people belief they are superior to another which leads to discrimination. Australia is a multicultural country with its diversity highlighted through the lifestyles, food and traditions of those living there. It is hard to imagine such a culturally diverse country can be considered racist, however racism has been embedded in Australian society and culture since its colonisation in 1788. Australian law and people can be racist and often are in denial about their racist ways. Racism in Australia has been implanted since the period of colonisation. Due to overcrowding in British prisons, British explorers went looking for land to settle and send the convicts. Prior to finding Australia, the original Indigenous inhibitors had been thriving off the land. According to statistics, The Indigenous population of Australia was reduced by an estimated 90% between 1788 and 1900 (Harris, 2003). This massive decline was due to the introduction to new diseases that the Aboriginals had not been exposed to and also from to the violent attacks and mass shootings on the Indigenous as the Europeans expanded through Australia. The Indigenous felt dispossessed from of the land through the White s violent acts of dominance and superiority. The racist views of the white can be depicted

  • 44. Lighting Technician Personal Statement Throughout my degree I have always been sure that I wanted to pursue a career as a lighting technician (or spark) in the film industry. I have always held an interest in this area of the industry as my Brother Charlie Jenkins (http://www.imdb.com/name /nm5340410/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) is a successful lighting technician and through him I was given some early insight into a career which for me amalgamates creativity and a trade skill. I plan to go straight into the industry working as a freelance lighting technician or lighting trainee using the contacts that I have made over the last couple of years. Aaron has since put me in contact with Gaffer Paul Burns (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0122832/), who I have worked with several times now since November 2015. Although I was lucky enough to get an introduction through my brother, this type of informal approach is common in the film industry with 56% (Creative Skillset, 2014) of employees working in the creative industry finding out about their most recent job through informal recruitment methods. One aspect that makes becoming a Lighting Technician attractive is that you can be expected to be paid for your work almost immediately. Lighting is heavily unionized through BECTU and in my experience, most Gaffers will insist on their lighting team being paid the recommended BECTU rates (2016) of ВЈ315 (Shooting Crew Feature), ВЈ276 (Rigging Crew Feature) and ВЈ250 (Commercial which also covers music promos). The BECTU Recommended rates are there to prevent Lighting Techs being underpaid for what is both one of the most dangerous and physically demanding jobs in the film industry. It also prevents Lighting Technicians Undercutting each others prices, which eventually

  • 46. Analysis Of The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara Kingsolver In the novel The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, Nathan Price, the dominant male figure, is a closed minded and egotistical individual who causes a rift between himself and his family, for whom he has little concern in comparison to his misguided hopes of saving the tribes of Ham, as well as his ultimate reason for his mission: spreading God to so called sinners. Nathan not only physically alienates himself, his four daughters, and his wife from the comfort of their prideful Southern home by forcing them to accompany him on his year long mission to save the Congo, but also emotionally alienates himself by personifying the stereotypical white misogynistic male of the 1960s, which ultimately leads to the spiritual alienation of his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nathan claims that for the sinners to truly be reborn they must first be baptized, just as Jesus said let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness (Matthew 3.15). However, the tribe members refuse baptism, due to the dangers lurking in the depths of its murky water. The author depicts Nathan s selfish nature through his unwillingness to accept the tribe s simple request. To illuminate how far Nathan is willing to go to spread his ideas of God, as well as his overwhelming God complex, the author sacrifices Ruth May, Nathan s youngest child. When told of her death, Nathan does not take responsibility for what happens, but instead simply says she wasn t baptized yet, which stirs a new filmy hatred in his children, particularly Leah, who had once seen reason behind Nathan s trek to the Congo, but now sees the painful truth behind the journey. Through her father s outlandish behavior, Leah discovers that Nathan not only physically isolates her from the beauty of the world, but also spiritually binds her to his own misconceptions of God. She [feels] the breath of God go cold on her skin as she realizes her father s simplistic idea of God is the driving force of her and her family s alienation, not the Congo or the individuals who reside there. As a result to Nathan s behavior, his family loses faith in him and flees the Congo as a civil war breaks loose, and he is left alone, and is eventually murdered for his

Authority is a form of power that takes its force from legitimacy, political authority that is assigned by the law or the state through legal documents. The government is an institution that is based upon authority. There are various ways in which authoritycan be conferred upon a governmental institution and many opinions on how it should be used. In a government such as Jefferson describes, majoritarian politics is most fitting. Majoritarian politics generally occurs when the government considers issues important to the people. The people have more power because pressure from the majority opinion is exerted on the leader. Meanwhile, elitism occurs when public opinion is largely absent, giving leaders greater freedom to act in self interest. There are several theories of elitism: Marxism, which describes power as being in the hands of business leaders, a view exemplified by the influence held by American capitalists; the power elite theory, in which key leaders in society control and are served by the government, can be seen in the influence held by the media and wealthy members of society; the bureaucratic view, which holds the official as the vessel of power and hand behind administrative action, and may be exemplified by members of Congress, who deliberate amongst themselves on matters that may concern the public; and the pluralist view, which describes various powerful groups in government and politics as cooperating with each other while being aware of the public opinion in order to maintain popularity. This is observed in the cooperation between various branches of government and powerful organizations. Elitism allows for more self interest. Although a self interested government does not necessarily dictate that policies will be unbeneficial for the people, it is on the whole detrimental and less restricted than the ideal Jefferson held for government. A majoritarian government is best suited to Jefferson s idea of
