about the Pyramids is that they don t have so many similarities they have their own
special uniqueness in their own way. I would like to give the example of the
Mayan and the Egyptian Pyramid. While they are not similar they are both pyramidal.
Egyptian pyramids are funerary monuments and they are not considered temples.
They did have temples that were close by that were on the ground, but they did not
have any on the top. One of the most intriguing things about the Aztec and the

The Barber Institute For Fine Arts
On November 3rd 4th 2016, the Barber Institute for Fine Arts (Birmingham, UK)
hosted the symposium Bellows and the Body , event that saw an evening lecture on
Thursday November 3rd presented by Professor David Peters Corbett, and the main
symposium on the following day (Friday 4th November). The two days focused on
the new Bellows collection acquired in 2014 by the Barber Institute, which also
created a microsite within their own website for Bellows exhibition named Bellows

Dr John Fagg, Director of the School of American and Canadian Studies at the
University of Birmingham, has been a crucial figure in organising this event as

The evening lecture held by Prof. Corbett gave an excellent introduction to the topic

undertook the masters in Social work at Kingston University. It came as a surprise
to me that in all the years the social work course had been taught, it had not change

The Stapedial Or Acoustic Reflex ( Ar )
ABSTRACT:
The Stapedial or Acoustic Reflex (AR) is the contraction of the stapedius muscle in
response to an adequately loud sound. Bilateral reflex pathways are involved in this
occurrence. The aim of the study was to compare the test retest variability on an
individual, following a short interval, after the initial test, and also to compare the
ARs with pure tone thresholds. The subject had a normal hearing sensitivity, with
bilateral A type tympanogram, which indicated normal functioning of the middle ear,
and bilateral AR thresholds within normal limits. It was delineated that AR was
elicited with requisite intense acoustic signal and this test can be used as a diagnostic
tool in collaterally with pure tone audiometry.
INTRODUCTION:
When a sufficiently intense acoustic signal is presented to either of the ears,
stapedius muscle in both the ears contract, as a response to this sound. This
phenomenon is termed as AR.
Stapes, the smallest middle ear ossicle is attached with a small striated muscle
(stapedius muscle) on the side. In response to a loud sound, this muscle contracts,
pulling the stapes laterally, which in turn reduced the force by which the footplate of
the stapes propels against the oval window. This action permits a considerable
protection against loud and stable background noise, but not against sudden loud
sounds (e.g.: bomb blast).

Throughout the eighteen hundreds saloons were the site of rockus drinking, profane
drunkards, and unthinking violence. This drinking culture was defined by
masculinity and by free flowing alcohol that permeated all throughout America, city
to city. The saloons became so popular with working men because it was time they
could spend away from their wives and their homes. In Catherine Murdock s book
Domesticating Drink she argues that these elements of saloon culture, exclusivity,
inebriety, and violence, were eliminated by the increase in popularity of mixed sex
