Friendship Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of "Friendship Essays" can be both challenging and rewarding. On
one hand, the concept of friendship is vast and intricate, encompassing various aspects such as
trust, loyalty, companionship, and shared experiences. This complexity offers a wide array of
potential angles to explore, but it also requires careful consideration to avoid superficiality or
clichГ©s.
The difficulty lies in striking a balance between personal reflection and broader insights that
resonate with a diverse audience. While it's tempting to draw solely from one's own experiences,
a well-crafted friendship essay often incorporates a mix of personal anecdotes, universal truths,
and perhaps even references to literary or historical examples of friendship. This requires not
only introspection but also research to ensure a comprehensive and well-rounded perspective.
Additionally, the challenge extends to finding a unique angle or approach that distinguishes the
essay from others on the same topic. Friendship is a common theme, and countless essays have
been written about it. Therefore, crafting an essay that stands out requires creativity and
originality.
Furthermore, the tone and style of the essay play a crucial role in conveying the message
effectively. Striking the right balance between a personal voice and an academic tone can be
tricky, as the essay should be relatable while maintaining a level of professionalism.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Friendship Essays" demands careful thought,
creativity, and a nuanced understanding of the subject. It's a challenge that involves navigating
the complexities of personal experiences, universal truths, and the need for originality. However,
with the right approach, it can lead to a compelling exploration of the multifaceted nature of
friendship.

Kidney Stones
Has your father ever had gout? If he has, he probably has also had kidney stones or
Nephrolithiasis. Although gout may cause kidney stones, they do not cause the most
common form of kidney stones, that title belongs to hypercalciuria. Hypercalciuria
can form types of kidney stones like calcium oxalate, or calcium phosphate. Gout
causes uric acid based kidneystones. Other forms of kidney stones are cysteine and
struvite stones which are caused by various reasons. Struvite stones are caused by
kidney infection and cystine stones are due to a common disorder. The disorder
called cystinuria is the defect in transporting amino acids and causes too much
cystine is in the urine. The more common types of kidney stones involve calcium.
Hyperparathyroidism is when the gland over produces its hormone, parathyroid
hormone (PTH), that will increase the amount of calcium in the blood. However,
just calcium in the blood or in the urine will not cause kidney stones, they need
oxalates or phosphates and must form in the kidneys. The reason I specify the
kidneys is that if you consume calcium and oxalate together and they form in the
stomach. They will be dissolved and are less likely to form stones. People with too
much vitamin C, probably through a supplement, will have oxalate rich urine.... Show

Ketorolac decreases inflammation and aspirin will usually be used to counteract
and help with the passage of the stone. Although, if those are used, a lithotripsy

which shockwaves are used to break apart kidney stones into smaller pieces. Various
factors may increase the passage of kidney stones such the size of the kidney stone,
enlargement of the prostate, or pregnancy. Surgical techniques have been made to
remove kidney stones whether through an incision, or by using a urethroscope to go

An Interaction Between An Insurance Sales Agent From...
When it comes to selling, many issues arise in regards to business ethics and the
proper conduct a salesperson should be morally obliged to take upon themselves.
This paper will discuss an interaction between an insurance sales agent from
Prudential, Ed Mokarem, and a tenured professor, Thomas Parson, who received a
one year research fellowship outside his home university. The fellowship covered
all cost except for the health insurance policy the professor was receiving from the
university and therefore, he would have to pay out of pocket to keep the expensive
policy going for the year away. Thinking he might get a better deal, he went to Ed
the agent. The policy of the coverage that Ed offered would come to about half the
cost. Ed,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Holley discusses three conditions for this to happen: both sides are knowledgeable;
there was no compulsion on either side, and both sides were able to make rational
judgments at the time of exchange (531). With these come degrees of fulfillment, the
ideal exchange where both parties are fully informed, fully rational and enter without
coercion; an acceptable exchange where the exchange was adequately informed,
rational and free from compulsion (532). He suggests the primary duty of
salespeople to customers is to avoid undermining the conditions of acceptable
exchange (532). I believe it should go one step above this, in between ideal and
acceptable, in what I call, desired exchange an adequately informed, rational, free
from compulsion and with the best intentions at heart exchange.
Some might say I am a bit harsh in my views to what a salesperson should and
shouldn t say. Many salespeople have said that if they acted with such high moral
obligations, they wouldn t be able to do their jobs properly. I, on the other hand,
believe the seller should strive as much as possible to sell as close to the desired
exchange standpoint rather than the lower end of the acceptable exchange view.
Many agents have suggested that if the customer is ready and willing to spend the
money and will do so in any case, they should not be stopped. Therefore, the sales
agents strive towards
Those Winter Sundays Analysis Essay
Poetry, the feeling and emotions of the soul recorded on paper for men, women and
children alike to interpret and enjoy. When a poet puts their thinking cap on, the
result is much more substantial than rushed lines and forced rhymes; if effort is put
into the reader s interpretation of the work, the feelings and emotions put into the text
are revealed. Through love, empathy, and remorse the speaker s state of mind is
divulged as a state of reflection in Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden.
The first emotion Robert Hayden exhibits is love for his father. Although love can
expressed numerous ways, children often do not realize this when they are young.
When the rooms were warm, he d call (Line 7) to wake up and dress in the
blistering cold and warm the house simply so his children would not have to
suffer the cold, is a clear indication of just how much his father cared; however,
when you re young the little deeds that are done for you seem to advance
unnoticed and expected. Only later in life, when reflecting on the past, does one
truly perceives actions similar to driven out the cold / and polished my good shoes as
well (11 12) as important acts of love.
The second emotion Hayden portrays is empathy. Now that he is finally an adult

It s not always simple admitting when you have done wrong, but, being a major
aspect of growing up, its inevitably something everyone must come to terms with.
No one ever thanked him (5) is a perfect example of remorse, acknowledging the
wrong done and feeling guilt over it. Being a critical emotion, regret is one that
makes you conscious of your actions and willing to change your behavior to better
yourself. Another example of remorse is speaking indifferently to him (10) this line
makes it evident that he feels guilt for treating his father the way he did, now that, in
hindsight, he knows he did it out of
Relationship Between Hindu Gods And Goddesses
Hindu Gods and Goddesses
Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world. It has a complicated system of
many gods. These gods can take many forms including animals and people.
Hinduism, being a debatable polytheistic religion, has many gods who create legends
that can help explain relationships between god and people while elaborating on hindu
beliefs.
Hinduism is commonly viewed as a polytheistic religion. It s many gods make up a
variety of interesting stories and myths. However, many of these gods are simply
reincarnations of other gods. A god may reincarnate to perform a certain task. They
can reincarnate in human and animal and other God like forms (Vishnu, BBC). It is

Shiva is considered the destroyer of god or the god of that is intended to end of the
universe. This may have a negative connotation however, in Hinduism the
universe is thought to regenerate in cycles every 2,160,000,000 years, Shiva
destroys the universe at the end of each cycle which allows for a new creation
(Mark Cartwright). Shiva is not destroying the universe but really opening up the
opportunity for new creation. The story of how Shiva and Parvati end up getting
married provides insight into the relationships between gods and other gods.
When Parvati s mother did not approve of Parvati marriage to Shiva. To show this
disapproval she held a sacrifice and invite all gods, except for Shiva. To retaliate
Shiva created two demons to kill Parvati s mother. In the end the other gods were
able to rationalize with Shiva, allowing him to bring back Parvati s mother from
the dead. In their next incarnation Shiva and Parvati got married (Mark Cartwright).
This story shows how god can make flaws and how they can act irrationally.
However it also shows how gods can come together and reason with those who are
out of control. Shiva shows us a more emotional side of god s bettering our
understanding of inter god
Difference Between Dionysus Spirit And Apollo Spirit
1.Dionysus Spirit and Apollo Spirit
Nietzsche has pointed out in his maiden work that the continuous development of art
is under the restraint the duality of Apollo Spirit and Dionysus Spirit in the way
bearing under the duality of sex, which endlessly fights with one another with
seasonal compromise. From the angle of Nietzsche, Apollo art is fine arts while
Dionysus art is musical art, obviously, there is a great opposition between them.
Dionysus and Apollo Nietzsche has mentioned originated from Ancient Greek
Mythology. In the Birth of Tragedy, he used symbolism to express Dionysus and
Apollo in Greek mythologies: Apollo represents as the magnificent icon of
Individualization principle , which means Individualization principle is just
phenomenon, Will is the essence that control individuals, therefore individuals are in
eternal pain. How to avoid this pain? Nietzsche found in mythology Apollo, the God
of light who gained the upper hand of the elegant ... Show more content on

Due to the amendment to mythology by history and religions and itself development,
the version vary. One version is: He was son of Zeus and mortal Semele. When he
was fetus, Hera instigated her to require Zeus to show his true appearance. But after
Zeus came to meet her with light and thunder, she couldn t bear the power of Zeus
and was turned to dust and ashes. At the same time, the only thing Zeus could do
was to take out Dionysus, cut off his own leg and put him in. Therefore, Dionysus
was reborn. Another popular statement is that Dionysus was son of Zeus and
Demeter. Hera demanded Titan to arrest him and tear, swallow, with only heart left
and looted by Athena, by which Dionysus was reborn. Afterward, the tales of the
immortal Dionysus soon went virus everywhere in Greece. Even after he grew up,
Hera still refused to let him go. She made him insane, roving around, during his
journey, he taught peasants to vintage, by which he became Bacchus, one of the

Assignment #1 Person In Environment The case vignette that was assessed was
about elementary school student named Charlie. Charlie s biological factors
include being 6 years old, African American, and male. It is unclear if Charlie was
premature, and if his mother, Eloise, was taking prenatal care during the
pregnancy, which are also a part of Charlie s biological factors. In regards to the
psychological facts, Charlie appears to be having challenges interacting with the
other children. Additionally, he becomes easily irritated and distracted, cries when
someone tries to correct his behavior, and constantly has tantrums. His usual
bedtime and mealtime routine have changed since his mother is not always
available to attend. The social factors consist of his mother, step father, aunt, and
newborn sister. Additionally, moving in with his Aunt Eleanor and his school are
social factors. Due to his mother, Eloise, having depression, she was in psychiatric
hospitalization for a while. After her release, Charlie moved with his aunt in order
for Eloise to spend time trying to recover from her depression. Ever since he
moved with Aunt Eleanor, Charlie s developmental factors have changed. Prior to
moving with his aunt, Charlie was an actively involved child who was extremely
social and reached his developmental milestones at an expected rate, as well as
possessing amazing language and social skills. It is imperative to be aware of these

Actions During WWII
World War II was the biggest and most fierce armed conflict ever. At the point when
the Great Depression influenced the American economy, America was going to just
concentrate on their issues and not fret about some other undertakings. After Pearl

Total War economy. The United States
actions were positive based on: The War in the
Pacific, America s Spending in the War, and the Contribution of American People.
The United States actions during WWII were positive because of the War in the
Pacific. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, after a short time, the United States
pronounced war on Japan. One piece of evidence is the Battle of Midway. This
evidence is significant because it was a turning point for Japan as it had lost 4
aircraft carriers, a cruiser and 250 planes. Since, they had sustained heavy losses,
they eventually turned back. Second piece of evidence is the invasion of Iwo Jima
and Okinawa. This evidence means that In mid 1945, American powers endured

Dickens Use of Symbolism in A Christmas Carol Essay

Dickens Use of Symbolism in A Christmas Carol
Charles Dickens wrote a large number of novels but this particular novella was very
popular as it told the story of a typical Christmas in Victorian times. The word
Scrooge derives from the character Scrooge in this novella, which proves that
Dickens story really did make an impact on the reading public. In A ChristmasCarol
there are three main themes that would have been influenced by the times when
Dickens was writing, the themes are: Poverty, ignorance and happiness (Christmas
spirit). In the following paragraphs I am going to study the themes and see what
symbolism is used.

Later when Scrooge gets back to his lodging he is visited by the ghost of Jacob
Marley who was wearing a massive chain made up of cashboxes , keys and some
padlocks. This symbolises the slave labour that was going on at that time and how
Scrooge s money making is what is weighing him down. Jacob tells Scrooge that if
he does not change his ways and mix with people in life then he must travel among
them after death. He also warns him that he too wears a chain larger than his and
that he will be visited by three spirits who will try to help him change his ways
before it is too late.
When Scrooge is visited by the first spirit (Christmas Past) he is shown things that
had happened in his own past. The first thing he is shown is when he was a boy at
boarding school and the second is when Scrooge is a young apprentice for Mr
Fezziwig. Mr Fezziwig is described as: a large kind man whose jollity is infectious.
He is best judged by the company he keeps almost every deserving poor person is
welcome at his ball. This symbolises the happiness felt for other people when
Christmas comes around. Scrooge also tells us how Mr Fezziwig has the power to
make people feel happy or unhappy. Scrooge has the same power but he and
Fezziwig use it in opposite ways.

Analyzing Todd Burpo s Trip To Heaven
Trip to Heaven... And Back
If a survey was conducted about people s biggest fears thanatophobia would be on
a list with arachnophobia, coulrophobia and apiphobia. Many religions have their
own ideas on our final resting place . There are theories revolving around
reincarnation, Heaven and Hell, one s own planet and many more. All of these
fantasies have one thing in common: little to no scientific reasoning. There are
stories occasionally that prove a theory but overall it is a bunch of he says, she says.
This is until the biography Heaven is for Real. The author Todd Burpo does an
incredible job narrating his son s story. Unlike some of the past fictional books and
movies proving religious beliefs about the afterlife, Heaven is for Real ... Show more

Todd Burpo does a remarkable job translating, three year old, Colton s descriptions of
his trip to Heaven... and back.
Another positive I found while reading the book Heaven is for Real is that I could
not put it down. This was because chapters were short and they always left the
reader at a cliff hanger. Burpo did a outstanding job keeping the reader engaged and
wanting more by somehow creating cliffhangers after every chapter. Whether it was
whether Colton was going to make it out of surgery or mid conversation about
Colton s still born sister, Burpo made it impossible to not start the next chapter to
find out the answer or details to the newest bomb Colton dropped on his parents.
While some may be completely convinced by the innocence of the book, many
skeptics (including myself) would say Heaven is for Real is to monotonous and
predictable. All of Colton s experiences follows a pattern. He tells his father little
detail out of the blue. His father experiences a gasp or feels his heart skip a beat.
Then he quotes the bible with some piece of scripture that fits. Finally, Colton gets
bored and runs off. This pattern is repeated through the entire
Reacting To An Unfair Government In Henry David
Thoreau s...
Reacting to an Unfair Government Without a job, without a source of income,
without a way to provide oneself with the necessities, how would one survive in life?
It is stated in Henry David Thoreau s essay, Resistance to Civil Government, that the
reaction to an unfair government is to remove oneself from office if the government
violates the moral human law and rebel/revolutionize against the government. This
is clear in the following quote, All machines have their friction; ...But when the
friction comes to have its machine, and oppression and robbery are organized, I
say, let us not have such a machine any longer. In other words, when ...a nation
which has undertaken to be the refuge of liberty are slaves, and a whole country is
unjustly overrun and conquered by a foreign army, ..., I think that it is not too soon
for honest men to rebel and revolutionize. However, rebelling could result in losing a
government position which is leaving an occupation and that leads to serious
consequences for the person involved. This thought stemmed from Thoreau after he
was jailed for not paying taxes to the state. Thoreau did not support the Mexican
American war and disliked the fact that the government supported slavery. Since he
broke the law, he was forced to stay overnight in jail. Thoreau believed if the law
violated the human conscience, then one should follow his conscience over the law.
Why has every man a conscience, then? I think that we should be men

Home Theater Research Paper
When you visit your home theater store in your local area, you ll encounter a wide
variety of ultra technical sounding cable names, such as Mega, Monster, and Uber
Cables. The growing numbers of home theater cable types in boutiques is often a
hot topic among technology and home theater enthusiasts. However, you may ask
yourself, how much of a difference does the right cable actually make? Is it
actually worth differentiating between them? In spite of the pitfalls that tend to pop
up as soon as this subject is mentioned, I ll make an attempt to make a valuable
contribution to this matter. The most critical matter to appreciate is that a cable is
unable to to improve upon a home stereo system s sound, just like an electrical wire

Keeping this notion in mind, sense can now be made when you consider that low
grade wires are unable to physically alter the sounds played on your home theater
system, stereo, or other device. Alternatively, the manner in which wires affect
home theater or stereo playback is analogous to a game of telephone , during
which the musicians tell the CD a message, the CD conveys this message to the
audio device, the audio device relays this message to the wires, and the wires
convey these previous messages to a home theater or other audio device s speakers,
which can account for sound quality loss each time the sound is conveyed to
another subject. Therefore, if the original message was, Big girls don t cry. , the
message that arrives as output might be, I like apple pie, or what could be an

3.As far as wireless goes, given the distinct network advantage that Rogers has (with
a coverage of 95% of Canada and the most roaming partnerships) and taking
advantage of a 69% penetration in Canada, the strategy to push customers into
adopting smart phones (also considering that only a 31% of Rogers wireless users
were smart phone users) is the right one. One area that we should explore is the
enterprise segment. Given our relationship with Apple and other manufacturers, we
should seek partnerships with devices manufacturers, where we could agree to buy in
bulk, with a significant discount per phone and a minimum term contract. Wireless
expected growth of 5% annually for the next several years, thereВґs an increased
customer demand for data driven services, data is twice as profitable as voice, and
the significant data revenue growth experienced in 2009, all support the previous

Wd-40 Research Paper
WD 40 was invented in 1953 by the Rocket Chemical Company. It stands for, Water
Displacement on the 40th try. It was originally used to prevent rust and corrosion
on Atlas missiles, but was soon found to have other beneficial uses around the
home. Today it is used around the world to lubricate moving parts and protect
against rust. It has also been used for many, less conventional purposes, such as to
remove decals and stickers from car windows and bumpers, break in baseball
mitts, and remove coffee stains from nearly all surfaces. Today WD 40 uses the
same formula as the day it was invented, but some of the ingredients may not make
the product as inert as the company advertises. After researching the main
components, it is clear that WD 40 is not as safe as most people believe, with many
of its ingredients being flammable, combustible, and hazardous to health. One of its
main ingredients, dimethyl naphthalene, is a powerful solvent that is hazardous to
skin and causes serious health problems if inhaled. Another hazard included in WD

the usual propellants used in aerosols, such as butane and propane, are highly toxic
and have far adverse effects than carbon dioxide. While some ingredients have

Reflection On Self Evaluation
Introduction Self evaluation may not be an easy thing, but my counseling skills
throughout the semester have improved. This type of self evaluation is an
essential part of the role and helps the counselor to become a better counselor.
Thus, without this reflection, the counselor becomes stagnant and loose
motivation. I reflect on my journals most of the time about how I am improving
each day, and the new skills that I learned and will continue using them. I did not
think I would be able to do the skills that I learned from this course. Initially, I was
so nervous about the whole process like the role play and not to mention the video
recording was a nerve racking, but as we progress I got the confidence and the
courage that I can do this. I had to force myself to do a better job and not to let
down my colleagues in each practice session. Each session, I encourage and push
myself into my limitation and at the end it was successful. I believe all the hard
work paid off that I put into this class. I gained the ability to demonstrate active
attending behaviors, as well as to listen to and understand non verbal behaviors.
Current Level of Counseling Skills I have gained so much knowledge regarding
counseling skills throughout this semester were exceptional. These skills include
attending, challenging, immediacy, basic/advanced empathy, active listening and
much more. Initially, it seemed very hard for each class session, as I could not
believe that I was able to conduct the

The Theory Of Purchasing Power Parity
David Ricardo came up with the theory of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP). PPP is
an economic technique used to estimate the level of adjustment needed to arrive at
an agreed exchange rate between two currencies in order that trade can effectively
take place. When the price of two commodities from two different countries is
converted into one currency, the price of both commodities should be the same. One
way of determining the inter currency exchange rates is to carry out a PPP test. This
test will also help to prevent commodity traders from buying cheaply and selling at
significantly higher rates.
The basic measure of PPP is the law of one price: Pi=EiP*i, where Ei is the exchange
rate, Pi = log (CPI of the domestic country), and P*i= log (CPI of the foreign
country). The equation means that the good i should have same price when the
exchange rate is applied to it. This is because there is an arbitrage in exporting
goods from the country that has a low price to a country that has a high price. In the
long term, prices when converted into the same currency at market exchange rates ,
should be equal across economically integrated countries . (Voinea: 2013, p.6)
There are two ways to measure PPP. The first one is Absolute PPP (APPP) which
states that the exchange rate between two countries should be equal to the price of a
basket of items in two countries due to arbitrage, i.e. ∑в
–’p_i=E∑в
–’p_i^* , where
E is the exchange rate. The second measure is Relative PPP (RPPP)

During some points, this season the Timberwolves were in games until the end. Let s
chalk it up to inexperience. How tough is it to play for such a young team?
We have to bring it every night. It seems like we er playing in the second half we re
just giving up leads. We just have to figure out how to play more aggressive with the
will to win.
A lot of times I noticed some of the young players rushed their shots at crucial points
of the game. As one of the teams most tenured players are there anything you can do
to kind of settle the young players down?
Sometimes when we see when we re down by five or so we ll take a quick three,
instead of a two. We have to keep pushing, and control the tempo of the game. It s
easy to talk about it now. It hard to do it when you re out there on the court but that s
when veterans come in.
Once some of the young guys get a few years in the league under their belt. I think
they won t make some errors that they make now. It s part of growing up. Do you
think once they get older they ll start to slow down?
I mean with experience you learn how to play close games, but like I said you need
the will to win, and play more

The Theme Of Religion In The Bridge Of San Luis Rey
Many people view religion as a source of conflict. Religious tensions ignite wars and
split nations. Religious disagreements separate communities and isolate individuals.
For these reasons, many people choose to leave their religion and to burn the bridges
to their faith. Thornton Wilder, an American author and playwright, attributes his
inspiration for the 1927 Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Bridge of San Luis Rey
(Burbanx 7), to arguments with my father, a strict Calvinist (Wilder xiv). Instead of
allowing religious arguments to create broken relationships, Wilder embraced his
religious influences and built a bridge of faith, grace, and love. Thornton Wilder, in
his novel, The Bridge of San Luis Rey, critiques Humanism, Puritanism, and
Catholicism in order to promote a unique Christian worldview. Wilder begins The
Bridge of San Luis Rey by setting up a dichotomy of life being controlled by
accident or by divine plan. The novel s famous opening line describes the break of
an Inca bridge: on Friday noon, July the twentieth, 1714, the finest bridge in all
Peru broke and precipitated five travelers into the gulf below (Wilder 5). Peruvians
were greatly astonished by the bridge collapse because the Bridge of San Luis Rey
seemed to be among the things that last forever; it was... Show more content on

Edmund Fuller observes that Wilder is concerned with identifying [love s] nature
and its kinds, the modes of its operation and the follies and waste associated with it
(Fuller 212). The wise Abbess guides them that anywhere you may expect grace
and that in love our very mistakes don t seem to be able to last long (Wilder 106).
Grace pardons mistakes made in genuine love, but Wilder suggests that insincere love

Mourning Etiquette In The Victorian Era
Background on the time period: The Victorian era was the time period between the
years 1837 and 1901. It was named after Queen Alexandrina Victoria Guelph who
became the Queen of Britain and Ireland. When her husband, Prince Albert died
December 14, 1861, at the age of 42, Queen Victoria went into deep mourning, which
she remained in until her death. Toward the end of the 19th century, people and
trends were changing as were the thoughts on mourning etiquette. The Queen of
England, being the biggest trend setter of the day, kept mourning a tradition, most
followed her example and continued to practice strict mourning etiquette until after
her death and the start of the 20th century. Quality of life had improved for the
average person by the Victorian Era. People expected to live long lives and when
young people died, which they frequently did, it was seen as tragic and terrible.
During the 19th century death was a constant fact of life. People died from
disease, lack of proper medical care, inadequate food, poor sanitary conditions,
accidents on the farm, fire, and war. The Industrial Revolution just added on to the
list of things you could die from. It created an environment in which accidents led
to the deaths of many workers who were men, women, and even children. The most
common death for women was related to childbirth complications. The average
person s lifespan was around 50 years of age. The mortality rate for children was
especially high. One third of all

Causes And Symptoms Of Meningitis
Introduction/Background/History: Meningitis is caused by an inflammation
surrounding your spinal cord and brain. The inflammation is usually caused by fluid
surrounding your brain and spinal cord. It mostly occurs in children, teens, and young
adults. Meningitis also affects older adults who have a weaker immune systemand
people in general who have illnesses that leads to a weak immune system. This is a
serious illness but most of the time if the symptoms are diagnosed properly and
treated correctly you may make a speedy recovery. There are many different types of
meningitissuch as fungal, bacterial, viral, parasitic, and non infectious. The most
common types of meningitis are viral and bacterial meningitis. Viral meningitis is
caused by viral infections in the layers of tissues that covers the meninges. The
symptoms of viral meningitis usually are headaches, muscle aches, stiff neck, and the
general feeling of being sick. Bacterial meningitis is caused by bacteriain the
environment that enters the bloodstream and eventually travels to the brain and
spinal cord. Symptoms of bacterial meningitis includes high fever, headaches,
confusion, increased drowsiness and stiffness in neck. If bacterial meningitis is
serious and life threating you may have seizures and strokes.
Reading/Writing: Majority of the time meningitis is life threating if left untreated. So
early treatment can help prevent serious problems including death. Vaccines can

Nihilism And Naturalism
The religious context of The Sun Also Rises is mostly based off of Naturalism in
some cases it can even be viewed as Nihilism. Naturalism is the belief of a soulless
universe meaning everything that exists is all just physical matter. Based off of
these beliefs there is also no God because there is no need for one. Therefore because
there is no Godthere is no purpose or meaning for your life because when you die
you don t go to heaven or hell you just die. Because in Naturalism God is non
existent you would then have to explain the creation of the universe in some other
way. Most Naturalists primarily believe in the big bangand evolution but in this belief
comes the first contradiction of naturalism. The theory of evolution is in direct
conflict with naturalism. For evolution to work it requires life to continuously
multiply in turn giving your life purpose and contradicting the belief in
naturalism.another flaw in the belief of naturalism is that there is no real thought
or soul. Because of this there would be no need for ethics or morals because if we
have no control over our own thought because they are not real than we cant be
responsible for our own actions. If this is true than we should not be sending
criminals to prisons because they did not truly commit the crimes themselves. A
slightly more aggressive or radical form of Naturalism is Nihilism. Nihilism is much
like Naturalism however the differences between the two are very important. One

Pixar Case Study Essay
In 1975, Ed Catmull put together a team of people who formed the basis of what
Pixar has become today. The group was hired in 1979 by Hollywood director George
W. Lucas and developed as a graphics division for LucasFilms (Shamsie, 2001). This
continued until 1985, when Catmull finally turned to Steve Jobs with the view to
making full length feature films using computer animation. After more than a year of
negotiations, Steve Jobs then purchased the graphics division and renamed it Pixar
Animation Studios (Shamsie, 2001). A three year filmcontract with Disney was
negotiated in 1991 which resulted in the movie Toy Storybeing released in 1995
(Shamsie, 2001). Toy Story became the top grossing movie of the year and won an

Despite these actions, there is still concern about the pace of production and how far
the company can grow without sacrificing quality for quantity (Shamsie, 2001). It has
also been stated that the company relies on particular talent, such as Catmull and
Lasseter, to create such highly regarded films, and that increasing production cannot
continue with a finite amount of talent (Bary, 2003).
Analyses
Despite its top position in the market, Pixar still needs to assess its future strategies
based on the external opportunities and threats, and the strengths and weaknesses of
the company. In its current position, Pixar has many opportunities to innovate, update
and create new technologies to improve their development process (Rafi, 2011).
Current technologies being used include the animation software Marionette , the
production management software Ringmaster and the rendering software system
Renderman (Dess, 2012). Other opportunities include the production of more sequels
and short stories, and global expansion. The major threat to the company is the rising
competitors, DreamWorks and Sony (Shamsie, 2001). Pixar needs to keep up with
technological advancements in the industry in order to stay competitive, and it also
needs to increase production without sacrificing the quality that has put it in its
current position (Rafi, 2011).
The company currently has many strengths that it can use to its advantage,
particularly after its merger with Disney in 1996.
Isaac Asimov Gender Roles
Gender as the Basis of Identity as Portrayed by Society and Isaac Asimov
Robbie, by Isaac Asimov was originally published as a short story in 1940. It is now
included as a chapter in Asimov s book, I, Robot. Throughout the story, Asimov
displays the development of his characters as representations of specific gender
stereotypes. Although trying to be progressive in the portrayal of his characters,
Asimov reverts to using stereotypical gender roles to express their personalities.
Through the stereotypical gender portrayal of his characters, Asimov unintentionally
asserts that an individual s identity is constructed with gender as the foundation, and
that an individual s development is limited by the barriers and criteria of a stereotype.

If gender is the foundation of identity, belonging to a group is the structure supported
by the foundation. Everyone needs to belong somewhere. In the genre of science
fiction, human beings especially need to belong to a group because now there are
other groups. For example, in Robbie there are robots. Robots are unfamiliar they
are different than humans. Gender is the basis of identity and belonging to a
group. Traditionally, there are only two genders so conforming to a gender is the
only way to insure group identity and belongingness, and humans need this. Dr.
Calvin is portrayed as male in her personality; Asimov gives her no traditionally
feminine qualities. Dr. Calvin works in a male dominated field so, she is masculine
because she in need of the foundation that would allow her to attain her structure
/group identity, or at least group affiliation within her field. He has socialized her to
conform to the gender that dominates her field. Asimov also portrays Robbie as
male to allow Robbie to become the hero and he illustrates Robbie as a traditional
female to give the character another element of likability and familiarity to the
reader. Robbie is socialized as a male which gives the character the ability to
become the hero but, Robbie is also socialized as a female which not only gives
Robbie the ability to be accepted as a likable character but, this gives Robbie the
ability to be accepted within the barrier of the traditional stereotype of a childcare
provider. This is all yet another reason Asimov unintentionally portrays his characters
through traditional gender

Hasanein K Amori
Big Brother is an example of a distinctive game doc that caused a transitional stage
to traditional documentary and reality genre. Therefore, this essay will delve into its
artistic and cultural value that award the show this distinction. The work will
approach different dimensions evaluating the programme through a hierarchy of
concepts. It will first approach the base of the hierarchy and explain reality Tv
genre as a covering topic that Big Brother related to. Then, it will introduce a brief
overview of the show structure. Subsequently, the work will briefly address the art of
the dramatic elements and the production and budget aspect. Finally, it will mainly
focus on the cultural appeal of Big Brother to its audience.
Big Brother programme is categorised as a reality TV show. However, The term of
reality TV is significantly broad. The reality TV is a representation of realism or
actual aspects in different forms and modes composing one genre. It is in effect a
contrast to imaginary to refer to the existence world in contrast to the fantasy world.
Bignel (2005, P:61) clarified that The artificiality of the scenario in some reality Tv
programmes is countered by their use of non actor participants, no scripts and a
temporal progression which is close to the linear unfolding of lived daily time. Also,
Television reviewer Kerrie Murphy has a broader

Fellowship Of The Ring Vs. The Two Towers
I remember when I first watched this epic trilogy. I was blown away by The
Fellowship of the Ring, and The Two Towers is my favorite book, so I expected
only bigger and better things from this film. In my younger years, I liked this
movie better than its predecessor simply because of The Battle of Helm s Deep.
Now, however, I see that while The Two Towers is still a great movie, though it
falls short of The Fellowship of the Ring. After a brief scene showing Gandalf s
(Ian McKellen) fight with the Balrog in the first movie, The Two Towers opens
where the previous movie left off. Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) have

He wasn t given a ton to do in The Fellowship of the Ring, but now that he gets the

Sam, but this time he takes everything up a notch. Another performer who has
improved, though he was still great in the previous film, is Mortensen as Aragorn.
His character has all but embraced his destiny, and Mortensen shows us that.
Heroism and leadership seem to surround him because of this performance, making
it charismatic and commanding. As in The Fellowship of the Ring, the supporting
actors all turn in fine work here, too. Orlando Bloom is even better as Legolas,
providing more depth to the character as his friendship with Aragorn and Gimli
grows. Speaking of which, Rhys Davies is brilliant as Gimli, making his character
more endearing and nailing his comedic moments. He s also great as the voice of
Treebeard, an Ent, making him sound suitably ancient and wise. McKellen once
again embodies Gandalf, carrying himself with more confidence and authority now
given his character s promotion. Brad Dourif is great as the slimy, sniveling
Wormtongue. Lastly, Bernard Hill excels as Theoden, conveying a certain sense of
desperation and regality in his
Modern American Liberalism Research Paper
According to Roskin s text, ideology is a belief system that society can be
improved by following certain doctrines . In politics, ideology cements together
movements, parties, and revolutionary groups. It s a way of explaining reality, of
searching for certainty or what some would call truth it allows us to draw
conclusions upon which we can take action. While particular ideologies may rise or
fall, ideological forms of politics seem to be an enduring feature of world history. The
textbook contends that in line with Adam Smith s thinking, classic liberalismexpelled
government from the marketplace; modern liberalism brought it back in, this time to

It could be claimed that it is not just an ideology but is the ideology for all mankind,
a fundamental truth that is not culturally specific to the West but is of global value.
Modern American liberals value institutions that defend against economic inequality.
Modern American liberalism is typically associated with the Democratic party, as
modern American conservatism is typically associated with the Republican party.
Liberals typically accept scientific ideas that some conservatives reject, such as
evolution and global warming. While both types of liberals will be strong on
ending the police state and ensuring due process, the biggest differences arise in
economic matters. Classic liberals favor low or no tariffs, reduced regulatory
burdens, even taxation with a low tax burden, and thus reduced government
expenditures and small government overall. Modern liberals favor a highly
progressive tax system, high taxes to break up large aggregations of wealth at the
upper strata, many regulations on businesses, high minimum wage laws, and barriers
to free international trade. Modern liberalism is not completely collectivist; nor is it
completely individualistic. It has elements of both doctrines. The same is true of
conservatism. Neither view provides a coherent approach to politics, built up from
first principles. Whereas conservatism and liberalism are both outgrowths of classical
liberal thought, they differ in what they accept and reject of their intellectual roots
(Goodman). Conservatism tends to accept the classical liberal commitment to
economic liberty but rejects many of its applications to the noneconomic realm.
Liberalism accepts the classical liberal commitment to civil liberties but largely
rejects the idea of economic

The Post-Positivist Paradigm Along The Mackenzie Valley...
The positivist paradigm refers to the assumption derived from empiricism and
determinism, which aims to objectively predict the relationship between variables in
question, with the belief that social matters can be treated the same way as those in
natural science. The positivist paradigm assumes that true knowledge and
information is derived from logic and mathematical implications, where every
rational assertion can and must be scientifically proven. When applying this
paradigm, the researcher is separate from what is being researched, with absolutely
no interference of personal values and interests. As the avoidance of such interference

Symptoms And Treatments Of Chemotherapy Induced
Nausea And...
Cancer patients frequently experience chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting
which affect their nutritional intake, quality of life, activity of daily living and the
course of chemotherapy treatment. Whereas most acute chemotherapy induced
nausea and vomiting are treated with anti emetics during chemotherapy, anticipatory
and delayed chemotherapyinduced nausea and vomiting can have a detrimental effect
on the patients quality of life and increase readmission rate. This paper discusses the
different types of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, the problem statement
and objectives, literature reviews, evidence practice guidelines and interventions for
chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting. BACKGROUND
Chemotherapy can increase a patient s life span and improve the outcome of cancer
treatment. However, the side effects of nausea and vomiting can be debilitating to the
patient s quality of life. According to Navari, (2013), specific patients characteristics
and the type of chemotherapy administered can increase the risk of chemotherapy
induced nausea and vomiting. For example history of motion sickness and pregnancy
induced nausea and vomiting increases a patient s risk, women are more at risk than
men and in younger patients whilst patients with high alcohol consumption
experiences less risk (NCCN, 2011).
Chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) can be classified as acute,
delayed and anticipatory, breakthrough and refractory. Acute CINV occurs within 24

cooperate in the treatment programs, under the Parens Patriae concept, I would have
to put him on probation in order to help deter John from committing crimein a future.
In this report I will explain the reasons why.
First, John is not considered delinquent because this was his first offense and based
on his statements, it seemed to me that John wasn t aware of the consequences that
would follow his actions and furthermore, John simply had a mindset that his action
was normal and that his friends did it all the time. This would place John under the

Pericles Lion And The Sea-Onion Analysis
he Lion and the Sea Onion. Most self respecting artists would pick the former as the
subject for a monument and dismiss the latter. Yet, the man behind the moniker of
Sea Onion cannot be so easily dismissed. Pericles, the great Athenian statesman, was
nicknamed
Schinocephalos
, or Sea Onion, by contemporary poets because of the large size of his head ( Pericles
, History.com). The Lion of Justice, in this case, refers to King Henry II of England(
King Henry II Biography ). On the surface, both Henry II and Pericles appear to be
equally great leaders who made lasting impact on Western civilizations. Henry II
established the English Common Law, which ensured the same laws applied
everywhere in the country (Hinds 60). He also laid the foundation for a unified
Britain by claiming Scotland and Ireland as parts of his realm (Morgan 143).
Pericles united the Greek city states into an empire known as the Delian League with
Athens at its center ( Pericles , University Press Inc). Under his leadership and
patronage, arts, literature, and philosophy flourished, creating a cultural legacy that
shaped all areas of Western thinking. Pericles also led the restoration of the
Acropolis and the ambitious construction of the Parthenon (Nardo 10). But looking
beyond their accomplishments, these two historical figures differ greatly in their
motivations and personal conducts. Arguably, two of the most essential traits of a
good leader are integrity and dedication to the common good. Using these qualities
as a metric for comparison, we will see that Henry II falls short while Pericles is
clearly deserving of a monument in his honor
.
Both Henry II and Pericles were highly driven and ambitious. But while Henry was
fueled by the desire to glorify himself and his reign, Pericles wished to glorify
Athens and its people. Henry II wanted to reclaim lands that were previously under
his grandfather s rule. He used force and threats to claim lordship over Wales,
Scotland, and Ireland (Hinds 12). In his mind, it was his birthright. As a general and
statesman, Pericles also helped reclaim land (noticeably Delphi) for Athens ( Pericles

A Short Period Of Critical Development
roplasticity?
Abstract
Introduction Traditionally neuroscientists believed that when you were born, after a
short period of critical development just after birth, brain plasticity was fixed. Over
100 years ago Santiago Ramon y Cajal, the father of modern neuroscience, was the
first to famously suggest that the brain could actually modify its structural and
functional organisation post childhood in response to environmental stimuli saying
Every man can, if he so desires, become the sculptor of his own brain . However
lacking in sufficient evidence, until recently the majority of neuroscientists have
believed in the staticity of cognitive function. It was in the 1970 s and 80 s that
controversial animal tests on monkeys infamously known as the Silver Spring
Monkeys , confirmed the notion that the brain, or more specifically the central
nervous system, was able to change its structure and function, creating new, more
advantageous neural pathways for processing without the help of medication or
surgery but as a response to environmental stimuli. The effect has been explained by
the Hebbian theory, in Donald Hebbs The Organisation of behaviour , published in
1949, a theory in neuroscience that proposes an explanation for the adaptation of
neurone in the brain during the learning process. The theory attempts to explain
associative or Hebbian learning, in which simultaneous activation of cells leads to
pronounced increases in synaptic strength between those cells, and
Essay On The Vedic Age
The Vedic age in India started around 1500 BC with the arrival of Aryans, an Indo
European tribe from central Asia near the Caspian Sea. Aryans settled along the banks
of the Indus and its tributaries in the northern part of the subcontinent. Initially, it was
a tribal society centered in northwest Indiaand by 1000 BC, it spread along the
Gangetic plain with the development of modern agriculture. Aryans dominated the
local indigenous population and often ruled over them. Over time, the interbreeding
with the local residents led to the emergence of mixed culture. The Vedic age lasted
from 1500 BC to 500 BC. Agriculture and cattle rearing were the main occupations of
the people. The Vedas and Upanishads were written during this period. The... Show

Buddhism emerged in the Magadha region of ancient India and rapidly became
popular among the masses. It opposed complex religious rituals and preached
social equality. It spread rapidly in India with support from the ruling class and also
reached foreign countries such as China, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan and Sri Lanka.
Buddhism peaked in India around the 1st century AD and thereafter its ideas got
absorbed into Hinduism. Buddhism almost completely disappeared from India with
the arrival of Islamic rule around 12th century AD. Jainism preached non violence
and believed in austere practices and had huge support from the ruling class around
3rd and 4th century BC. It was extremely popular in the merchant class and is still
practised in parts of western India.
The rulers of the Nanda Empire had accumulated a huge amount of wealth due to
exorbitant taxes and consequently, became unpopular among the masses over time.
In 326 BC, the northwest India was attacked by Alexander the Great, the founder of
the Macedonian Empire. Alexander faced stiff resistance from the then ruler of
Punjab, Porus. Alexander annexed Punjab after defeating Porus in a fierce
The Protagonists In Game Changers
The protagonists of Game Changers were Ben, Lily,Sam, and Coop. They were
the protagonists because they were the most positive and Lilly, Sam, and coop
were all Ben s friends. The antagonist was Shawn O Brien because he was a rival
with Ben to start at QB. He was also very negative every time he made a mistake
instead of trying to get better. The other antagonists were all of the football teams that
played the Rams because they were going against the Rams, the team that Ben played
on. Coach O Brien was an antagonistat first, but then he started Ben at QB so he
wasn t putting Ben at WR anymore since he wanted to be QB so badly. The story
took place sometime in the 2000s. The whole story mainly took place on the football
field. The rising
Do Consequences Depend on Motives in Julius Caesar by...
An American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr once said, All human sin seems so much
worse in its consequences than in its intentions. In this statement, Niebuhr exclaims
that the consequences of a situation are undeniably much worse than the motivation
of one s instigation of their actions. This applies to the intentions and, more
importantly, the consequences of the characters in both the play Julius Caesarby
William Shakespeare and film Wall Street: Money Never Sleepsdirected by Oliver
Stone. Even though some people have honorable intentions and mean no harm, the
consequences can still be disastrous. In much the same way, those with fraudulent
intentions also suffer in the end. Situations like these can be accurately viewed
through both the play and the film. The characters Brutus and Jacob Moore have no
other reason but to act in a worthy way. While Cassius and Gordon Gekko have
deceptive intentions, consequences incur similar to Brutus and Jacob Moore. The
intentions may seem like the most important consideration in a decision, but, in
reality, the penalties can be the same no matter what the motives are.
A motive to kill one s best friend requires deep thinking and a reasonable intention.
Brutus, Caesar s best friend, has taken into consideration why he thinks killing
Caesar is necessary. Although Brutus is Caesar s best friend, he has to come to
conclusion that murdering him is his final decision when he asserts, Not that I loved
Caesar less, but that I loved Rome
An Analysis Of Frederick Douglass s My Little Cousin
The famous reformer, Frederick Douglass, previously said Once you learn to read,
you will be forever free . It all started one night when reading to my little cousin. It
began just like every other night, and then, it turned magical. She picked up The
Land of Stories: Beyond the Kingdoms and we agreed to read the first chapter. I
opened the book to the first page and we set the scene in our heads before we started.
I read the first word and it felt as if we jumped into the book because we looked
around and we only saw forest for miles and miles. Reading made our imaginations
fly.
At first, I lay snug under my soft silky sheets in my bed. London, my seven year old
cousin, called to me from the other room. Peyton, can you please come read me a
story before I have to go to bed? she said. I walked to her room and told her, I m sorry
I can t, it is already past your best time and I don t want your mommy mad at me.
London looked me straight in the eye, her lip puckering, eyes welling, she began to
cry and scream and begged of me to read her just one chapter of a book. I felt awful
because of what I had caused, and therefore, I agreed to read to her.
Just one chapter and then it is time for bed. Do you understand? I asked London.
She shook her head so hard I thought she was going to break her neck, and then she
went and picked up the fourth book from her favorite series. London has always
read high above her grade level requirements and as a result, she s
Obtaining A Bachelor s Degree
Completing college is essential if I want to be successful and competitive, but
most importantly I have a 19 and a 17 year old sisters that I need to continue to set
an example for, this is essentially what drives me to complete my degree. My goal is
to complete a bachelor s degree in Criminal Justice. Obtaining a collegedegree will
unlock many opportunities like getting my dream job, become more independent,
build knowledge, and to prepare for the future. I recently researched job
descriptions in my current workplace and believe that a bachelor s degree will help
me move toward these career. I believe that an education will open doors of big
opportunities to a better quality of life; education benefits me in many aspects of my
life, personally

Friendship Essays

  • 1. Friendship Essays Writing an essay on the topic of "Friendship Essays" can be both challenging and rewarding. On one hand, the concept of friendship is vast and intricate, encompassing various aspects such as trust, loyalty, companionship, and shared experiences. This complexity offers a wide array of potential angles to explore, but it also requires careful consideration to avoid superficiality or clichГ©s. The difficulty lies in striking a balance between personal reflection and broader insights that resonate with a diverse audience. While it's tempting to draw solely from one's own experiences, a well-crafted friendship essay often incorporates a mix of personal anecdotes, universal truths, and perhaps even references to literary or historical examples of friendship. This requires not only introspection but also research to ensure a comprehensive and well-rounded perspective. Additionally, the challenge extends to finding a unique angle or approach that distinguishes the essay from others on the same topic. Friendship is a common theme, and countless essays have been written about it. Therefore, crafting an essay that stands out requires creativity and originality. Furthermore, the tone and style of the essay play a crucial role in conveying the message effectively. Striking the right balance between a personal voice and an academic tone can be tricky, as the essay should be relatable while maintaining a level of professionalism. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Friendship Essays" demands careful thought, creativity, and a nuanced understanding of the subject. It's a challenge that involves navigating the complexities of personal experiences, universal truths, and the need for originality. However, with the right approach, it can lead to a compelling exploration of the multifaceted nature of friendship. Although gout may cause kidney stones, they do not cause the most common form of kidney stones, that title belongs to hypercalciuria. Hypercalciuria can form types of kidney stones like calcium oxalate, or calcium phosphate. Gout causes uric acid based kidneystones. Other forms of kidney stones are cysteine and struvite stones which are caused by various reasons. Struvite stones are caused by kidney infection and cystine stones are due to a common disorder. The disorder called cystinuria is the defect in transporting amino acids and causes too much cystine is in the urine. The more common types of kidney stones involve calcium. Hyperparathyroidism is when the gland over produces its hormone, parathyroid hormone (PTH), that will increase the amount of calcium in the blood. However, just calcium in the blood or in the urine will not cause kidney stones, they need oxalates or phosphates and must form in the kidneys. The reason I specify the kidneys is that if you consume calcium and oxalate together and they form in the stomach. They will be dissolved and are less likely to form stones. People with too much vitamin C, probably through a supplement, will have oxalate rich urine.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lithotripsy is a procedure, in which shockwaves are used to break apart kidney stones into smaller pieces. Various factors may increase the passage of kidney stones such the size of the kidney stone, enlargement of the prostate, or pregnancy. Surgical techniques have been made to remove kidney stones whether through an incision, or by using a urethroscope to go up the urethra and bladder to the

When it comes to selling, many issues arise in regards to business ethics and the proper conduct a salesperson should be morally obliged to take upon themselves. This paper will discuss an interaction between an insurance sales agent from Prudential, Ed Mokarem, and a tenured professor, Thomas Parson, who received a one year research fellowship outside his home university. The fellowship covered all cost except for the health insurance policy the professor was receiving from the university and therefore, he would have to pay out of pocket to keep the expensive policy going for the year away. Thinking he might get a better deal, he went to Ed the agent. The policy of the coverage that Ed offered would come to about half the cost. Ed,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Holley discusses three conditions for this to happen: both sides are knowledgeable; there was no compulsion on either side, and both sides were able to make rational judgments at the time of exchange (531). With these come degrees of fulfillment, the ideal exchange where both parties are fully informed, fully rational and enter without coercion; an acceptable exchange where the exchange was adequately informed, rational and free from compulsion (532). He suggests the primary duty of salespeople to customers is to avoid undermining the conditions of acceptable exchange (532). I believe it should go one step above this, in between ideal and acceptable, in what I call, desired exchange an adequately informed, rational, free from compulsion and with the best intentions at heart exchange. Some might say I am a bit harsh in my views to what a salesperson should and shouldn t say. Many salespeople have said that if they acted with such high moral obligations, they wouldn t be able to do their jobs properly. I, on the other hand, believe the seller should strive as much as possible to sell as close to the desired exchange standpoint rather than the lower end of the acceptable exchange view. Many agents have suggested that if the customer is ready and willing to spend the money and will do so in any case, they should not be stopped. Therefore, the sales agents strive towards
  • 4. Those Winter Sundays Analysis Essay Poetry, the feeling and emotions of the soul recorded on paper for men, women and children alike to interpret and enjoy. When a poet puts their thinking cap on, the result is much more substantial than rushed lines and forced rhymes; if effort is put into the reader s interpretation of the work, the feelings and emotions put into the text are revealed. Through love, empathy, and remorse the speaker s state of mind is divulged as a state of reflection in Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden. The first emotion Robert Hayden exhibits is love for his father. Although love can expressed numerous ways, children often do not realize this when they are young. When the rooms were warm, he d call (Line 7) to wake up and dress in the blistering cold and warm the house simply so his children would not have to suffer the cold, is a clear indication of just how much his father cared; however, when you re young the little deeds that are done for you seem to advance unnoticed and expected. To show this disapproval she held a sacrifice and invite all gods, except for Shiva. To retaliate Shiva created two demons to kill Parvati s mother. In the end the other gods were able to rationalize with Shiva, allowing him to bring back Parvati s mother from the dead. In their next incarnation Shiva and Parvati got married (Mark Cartwright). Reacting to an Unfair Government Without a job, without a source of income, without a way to provide oneself with the necessities, how would one survive in life? It is stated in Henry David Thoreau s essay, Resistance to Civil Government, that the reaction to an unfair government is to remove oneself from office if the government violates the moral human law and rebel/revolutionize against the government. This is clear in the following quote, All machines have their friction; ...But when the friction comes to have its machine, and oppression and robbery are organized, I say, let us not have such a machine any longer. In other words, when ...a nation which has undertaken to be the refuge of liberty are slaves, and a whole country is unjustly overrun and conquered by a foreign army, ..., I think that it is not too soon for honest men to rebel and revolutionize. However, rebelling could result in losing a government position which is leaving an occupation and that leads to serious consequences for the person involved. This thought stemmed from Thoreau after he was jailed for not paying taxes to the state. Thoreau did not support the Mexican American war and disliked the fact that the government supported slavery. Since he broke the law, he was forced to stay overnight in jail. Thoreau believed if the law violated the human conscience, then one should follow his conscience over the law. Why has every man a conscience, then? I think that we should be men

  • 20. The Theory Of Purchasing Power Parity David Ricardo came up with the theory of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP). PPP is an economic technique used to estimate the level of adjustment needed to arrive at an agreed exchange rate between two currencies in order that trade can effectively take place. When the price of two commodities from two different countries is converted into one currency, the price of both commodities should be the same. One way of determining the inter currency exchange rates is to carry out a PPP test. This test will also help to prevent commodity traders from buying cheaply and selling at significantly higher rates. The basic measure of PPP is the law of one price: Pi=EiP*i, where Ei is the exchange rate, Pi = log (CPI of the domestic country), and P*i= log (CPI of the foreign country). The equation means that the good i should have same price when the exchange rate is applied to it. This is because there is an arbitrage in exporting goods from the country that has a low price to a country that has a high price. In the long term, prices when converted into the same currency at market exchange rates , should be equal across economically integrated countries . (Voinea: 2013, p.6) There are two ways to measure PPP. The first one is Absolute PPP (APPP) which states that the exchange rate between two countries should be equal to the price of a basket of items in two countries due to arbitrage, i.e. ∑⠖’p_i=E∑⠖’p_i^* , where E is the exchange rate. The second measure is Relative PPP (RPPP)

Thornton Wilder, an American author and playwright, attributes his inspiration for the 1927 Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Bridge of San Luis Rey (Burbanx 7), to arguments with my father, a strict Calvinist (Wilder xiv). Instead of allowing religious arguments to create broken relationships, Wilder embraced his religious influences and built a bridge of faith, grace, and love. • 24. Mourning Etiquette In The Victorian Era Background on the time period: The Victorian era was the time period between the years 1837 and 1901. It was named after Queen Alexandrina Victoria Guelph who became the Queen of Britain and Ireland. When her husband, Prince Albert died December 14, 1861, at the age of 42, Queen Victoria went into deep mourning, which she remained in until her death. Toward the end of the 19th century, people and trends were changing as were the thoughts on mourning etiquette. The Queen of England, being the biggest trend setter of the day, kept mourning a tradition, most followed her example and continued to practice strict mourning etiquette until after her death and the start of the 20th century. Quality of life had improved for the average person by the Victorian Era. People expected to live long lives and when young people died, which they frequently did, it was seen as tragic and terrible. During the 19th century death was a constant fact of life. People died from disease, lack of proper medical care, inadequate food, poor sanitary conditions, accidents on the farm, fire, and war. The Industrial Revolution just added on to the list of things you could die from. It created an environment in which accidents led to the deaths of many workers who were men, women, and even children. The most common death for women was related to childbirth complications. The average person s lifespan was around 50 years of age. The mortality rate for children was especially high. One third of all

  • 28. Nihilism And Naturalism The religious context of The Sun Also Rises is mostly based off of Naturalism in some cases it can even be viewed as Nihilism. Naturalism is the belief of a soulless universe meaning everything that exists is all just physical matter. Based off of these beliefs there is also no God because there is no need for one. Therefore because there is no Godthere is no purpose or meaning for your life because when you die you don t go to heaven or hell you just die. Because in Naturalism God is non existent you would then have to explain the creation of the universe in some other way. Most Naturalists primarily believe in the big bangand evolution but in this belief comes the first contradiction of naturalism. The theory of evolution is in direct conflict with naturalism. For evolution to work it requires life to continuously multiply in turn giving your life purpose and contradicting the belief in naturalism.another flaw in the belief of naturalism is that there is no real thought or soul. Because of this there would be no need for ethics or morals because if we have no control over our own thought because they are not real than we cant be responsible for our own actions. If this is true than we should not be sending criminals to prisons because they did not truly commit the crimes themselves. A slightly more aggressive or radical form of Naturalism is Nihilism. Nihilism is much like Naturalism however the differences between the two are very important. One example of

Lucas and developed as a graphics division for LucasFilms (Shamsie, 2001). This continued until 1985, when Catmull finally turned to Steve Jobs with the view to making full length feature films using computer animation. After more than a year of negotiations, Steve Jobs then purchased the graphics division and renamed it Pixar Animation Studios (Shamsie, 2001). Despite these actions, there is still concern about the pace of production and how far the company can grow without sacrificing quality for quantity (Shamsie, 2001). It has also been stated that the company relies on particular talent, such as Catmull and Lasseter, to create such highly regarded films, and that increasing production cannot continue with a finite amount of talent (Bary, 2003). Analyses Despite its top position in the market, Pixar still needs to assess its future strategies based on the external opportunities and threats, and the strengths and weaknesses of the company. In its current position, Pixar has many opportunities to innovate, update and create new technologies to improve their development process (Rafi, 2011). Current technologies being used include the animation software Marionette , the production management software Ringmaster and the rendering software system Renderman (Dess, 2012). Other opportunities include the production of more sequels and short stories, and global expansion. The major threat to the company is the rising competitors, DreamWorks and Sony (Shamsie, 2001). Pixar needs to keep up with technological advancements in the industry in order to stay competitive, and it also needs to increase production without sacrificing the quality that has put it in its current position (Rafi, 2011). The company currently has many strengths that it can use to its advantage, particularly after its merger with Disney in 1996.
  • 30. Isaac Asimov Gender Roles Gender as the Basis of Identity as Portrayed by Society and Isaac Asimov Robbie, by Isaac Asimov was originally published as a short story in 1940. It is now included as a chapter in Asimov s book, I, Robot. Throughout the story, Asimov displays the development of his characters as representations of specific gender stereotypes. Although trying to be progressive in the portrayal of his characters, Asimov reverts to using stereotypical gender roles to express their personalities. Through the stereotypical gender portrayal of his characters, Asimov unintentionally asserts that an individual s identity is constructed with gender as the foundation, and that an individual s development is limited by the barriers and criteria of a stereotype. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If gender is the foundation of identity, belonging to a group is the structure supported by the foundation. Everyone needs to belong somewhere. In the genre of science fiction, human beings especially need to belong to a group because now there are other groups. For example, in Robbie there are robots. Robots are unfamiliar they are different than humans. Gender is the basis of identity and belonging to a group. Traditionally, there are only two genders so conforming to a gender is the only way to insure group identity and belongingness, and humans need this. Dr. Calvin is portrayed as male in her personality; Asimov gives her no traditionally feminine qualities. Dr. Calvin works in a male dominated field so, she is masculine because she in need of the foundation that would allow her to attain her structure /group identity, or at least group affiliation within her field. He has socialized her to conform to the gender that dominates her field. Asimov also portrays Robbie as male to allow Robbie to become the hero and he illustrates Robbie as a traditional female to give the character another element of likability and familiarity to the reader. Robbie is socialized as a male which gives the character the ability to become the hero but, Robbie is also socialized as a female which not only gives Robbie the ability to be accepted as a likable character but, this gives Robbie the ability to be accepted within the barrier of the traditional stereotype of a childcare provider. This is all yet another reason Asimov unintentionally portrays his characters through traditional gender

Modern American liberals value institutions that defend against economic inequality. Modern American liberalism is typically associated with the Democratic party, as modern American conservatism is typically associated with the Republican party. Liberals typically accept scientific ideas that some conservatives reject, such as evolution and global warming. While both types of liberals will be strong on ending the police state and ensuring due process, the biggest differences arise in economic matters. Classic liberals favor low or no tariffs, reduced regulatory burdens, even taxation with a low tax burden, and thus reduced government expenditures and small government overall. Modern liberals favor a highly progressive tax system, high taxes to break up large aggregations of wealth at the upper strata, many regulations on businesses, high minimum wage laws, and barriers to free international trade. Modern liberalism is not completely collectivist; nor is it completely individualistic. It has elements of both doctrines. The same is true of conservatism. Neither view provides a coherent approach to politics, built up from first principles. Whereas conservatism and liberalism are both outgrowths of classical liberal thought, they differ in what they accept and reject of their intellectual roots (Goodman). Conservatism tends to accept the classical liberal commitment to economic liberty but rejects many of its applications to the noneconomic realm. Liberalism accepts the classical liberal commitment to civil liberties but largely rejects the idea of economic

  • 40. Pericles Lion And The Sea-Onion Analysis he Lion and the Sea Onion. Most self respecting artists would pick the former as the subject for a monument and dismiss the latter. Yet, the man behind the moniker of Sea Onion cannot be so easily dismissed. Pericles, the great Athenian statesman, was nicknamed Schinocephalos , or Sea Onion, by contemporary poets because of the large size of his head ( Pericles , History.com). The Lion of Justice, in this case, refers to King Henry II of England( King Henry II Biography ). On the surface, both Henry II and Pericles appear to be equally great leaders who made lasting impact on Western civilizations. Henry II established the English Common Law, which ensured the same laws applied everywhere in the country (Hinds 60). He also laid the foundation for a unified Britain by claiming Scotland and Ireland as parts of his realm (Morgan 143). Pericles united the Greek city states into an empire known as the Delian League with Athens at its center ( Pericles , University Press Inc). Under his leadership and patronage, arts, literature, and philosophy flourished, creating a cultural legacy that shaped all areas of Western thinking. Pericles also led the restoration of the Acropolis and the ambitious construction of the Parthenon (Nardo 10). But looking beyond their accomplishments, these two historical figures differ greatly in their motivations and personal conducts. Arguably, two of the most essential traits of a good leader are integrity and dedication to the common good. Using these qualities as a metric for comparison, we will see that Henry II falls short while Pericles is clearly deserving of a monument in his honor . Both Henry II and Pericles were highly driven and ambitious. But while Henry was fueled by the desire to glorify himself and his reign, Pericles wished to glorify Athens and its people. Henry II wanted to reclaim lands that were previously under his grandfather s rule. He used force and threats to claim lordship over Wales, Scotland, and Ireland (Hinds 12). In his mind, it was his birthright. As a general and statesman, Pericles also helped reclaim land (noticeably Delphi) for Athens ( Pericles , Bio). But rather than conquering neighboring poleis , Pericles chose to focus on making Athens a city

Abstract Introduction Traditionally neuroscientists believed that when you were born, after a short period of critical development just after birth, brain plasticity was fixed. Over 100 years ago Santiago Ramon y Cajal, the father of modern neuroscience, was the first to famously suggest that the brain could actually modify its structural and functional organisation post childhood in response to environmental stimuli saying Every man can, if he so desires, become the sculptor of his own brain . However lacking in sufficient evidence, until recently the majority of neuroscientists have believed in the staticity of cognitive function. It was in the 1970 s and 80 s that controversial animal tests on monkeys infamously known as the Silver Spring Monkeys , confirmed the notion that the brain, or more specifically the central nervous system, was able to change its structure and function, creating new, more advantageous neural pathways for processing without the help of medication or surgery but as a response to environmental stimuli. The effect has been explained by the Hebbian theory, in Donald Hebbs The Organisation of behaviour , published in 1949, a theory in neuroscience that proposes an explanation for the adaptation of neurone in the brain during the learning process. The theory attempts to explain associative or Hebbian learning, in which simultaneous activation of cells leads to pronounced increases in synaptic strength between those cells, and

  • 44. Do Consequences Depend on Motives in Julius Caesar by... An American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr once said, All human sin seems so much worse in its consequences than in its intentions. In this statement, Niebuhr exclaims that the consequences of a situation are undeniably much worse than the motivation of one s instigation of their actions. This applies to the intentions and, more importantly, the consequences of the characters in both the play Julius Caesarby William Shakespeare and film Wall Street: Money Never Sleepsdirected by Oliver Stone. Even though some people have honorable intentions and mean no harm, the consequences can still be disastrous. In much the same way, those with fraudulent intentions also suffer in the end. Situations like these can be accurately viewed through both the play and the film. The characters Brutus and Jacob Moore have no other reason but to act in a worthy way. While Cassius and Gordon Gekko have deceptive intentions, consequences incur similar to Brutus and Jacob Moore. The intentions may seem like the most important consideration in a decision, but, in reality, the penalties can be the same no matter what the motives are. A motive to kill one s best friend requires deep thinking and a reasonable intention. Brutus, Caesar s best friend, has taken into consideration why he thinks killing Caesar is necessary. Although Brutus is Caesar s best friend, he has to come to conclusion that murdering him is his final decision when he asserts, Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome
