The Pollution Of Water Pollution
Fresh Water Pollution
WILLIAM WRIGHT
GRANTHAM UNIVERSITY
In this paper I will discuss one of the world s problems which is the pollution of the Fresh Water
Systems in the United States. I will show how the pollution of fresh water affects land, air and plant
life to include humanity. When water is polluted it can affect all living things. Some of the human
activities that can be affected is the drinking water, without fresh drinking water humans would not be
able to survive. One of the pleasures that humans enjoy is swimming although humans can swim in
the oceans some enjoy lakes and if the lakes are polluted then that activity would not be able to be
performed. Also without fresh water much there would be lost of sea life and those who rely on
fishing as a way of life would be out of resources to provide for their families. Water pollution is a
global problem it is reported that more than 1,030327 deaths occur from dirty water diseases. Dirty
water is considered to be one of human s greatest dangers. Dirty water contains organisms which are
called pathogens; these pathogens contain bacteria, viruses and parasitic organisms. What these
organisms do is infect humans which cause illness. Some of the illness that can be caused by polluted
water is Typhoid which is an infectious bacterial; this causes fever with an outbreak of red spots on the
chest and abdomen and severe gastral irritation. Another illness is Cholera which is infectious and is a

Why Everest Should Be Open
Mount Everest SHOULD be Open
Many people enjoy climbing mountains. Mount Everest has the highest and tallest peak in the world,
standing high at 29,029 feet. Mount Everest is in the young Asian mountain range called The
Himalayas. The Himalayas borders China, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Pakistan, and India. More
specifically, Mount Everest borders Tibet and Nepal. This enormous mountain was first conquered on
May 29, 1953, by Sir Edmund Hillary alongside Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. ( Everything You
Never Knew About Mount Everest ) There is a multitude of reasons that Mount Everest should remain
open for climbing. They include economic impact, health benefits, and the extermination of an ethnic
group. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Climbing helps strengthen one s cardiovascular system. Also, climbing tones most muscles in a human
s body. Next, climbing tests mental capability in a plethora of different ways. Another advantage to
mountain climbing is that it reduces stress because it allows one to almost escape. As well as, climbing
exercises can prevent long term chronic disease. Climbing can drastically expand life expectancy and
without Everest, the tallest of mountains, that is essentially taking away from some people s lives. (
Rodgers )
Lastly, without Mount Everest, an entire culture would be annihilated and this culture is called The
Sherpas. Sherpa literally means easterner. The Sherpas transport heavy equipment up and down the
mountain. Sherpas migrated from Tibet over to the Nepalese side of the mountain. Closing Mount
Everest for climbing would cause The Sherpa s socioeconomic system to crash because without
money a society may not function. It is insane to destroy a culture that has strived immensely over the
past ten years. Overall, It is simply common sense not to destroy any culture because the Sherpas are

Key Implications Of The Solow Model
The Solow model is widely considered to be the standard neoclassical economic growth model which
serves as the basis for understanding economic growth. I will first introduce the two basic equations
that the Solow model is built around, discussing the main assumptions made along the way. I will then
present the key equation of the Solow model and discuss its results and implications. I will then
address why it is desirable to use log linearization, and how it can be used to study the dynamics near
the steady state. We will then briefly look into the empirical results of Mankiw et al. (1992) and what
they mean for the Solow model. We begin with the aggregate production function of the model. Let us
denote output (Y), capital (K), labour (L) and the index of productive efficiency (A). The production
function can then be written as:
Y=F(K,AL) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the contrary, if a is high then the rate of convergence is low because diminishing returns set in
slowly.
The differential equation for output convergence is quite similar. Assuming Cobb Douglas technology
we can show that y=k^a which then implies that y ̇/y=a k ̇/k by taking logs and differentiating with
respect to time. Here a is translating a given growth rate of capital into a given growth rate of output.
Substituting into the previous differential equation we get a new one for the growth rate of output:
y ̇/y≈ λ[logy logy^*]
The growth rate in each of these expressions is linear in the gap from the steady state measured in
logarithms.
Solving both differential equations and re arranging we get: logy(t) =(e^( λt) )logy(0)+(1 e^( λt)
)logy^* (5) k(t) k^*=(e^( λt) )[k(0) k^*]

Tattoo Cultural Phenomenon
Tattoos have been around for thousands of years and tons of people today have joined in with the
trend. A article published by the Huffington Post states that Today, 36 percent of Americans 18 25
have at least one tattoo (page 1). Tattoos are now a cultural phenomenon due to various different
things and people that are making them a phenomenon. Tattoos weren t as common 25 years ago. The
Huffington Post also said that those body modifications were only seen on sailors, inmates, and bike
gang members (page 1). But today, you will see tattoos on the body company presidents, accountants,
doctors, managers, and more because it is something that has become more acceptable overtime.

The Huffington Post claims that Celebrities like Rihanna, David Beckham, Angelina Jolie, and Adam
Levine, are several examples of mainstream media icons that have tattoos and openly display them
(page 1). A cultural phenomenon occurs when certain individuals behave a certain way merely
because other individuals do as well. Celebrities getting tattoos is a perfect example of a cultural
phenomenon because the celebrities are the individuals that started the trend and then their fans start
to get the same tattoos because it considered cool since the celebrities did it first, causing a
bandwagon effect. The people who are getting tattoos come from all walks of life. The canvases are
teenagers and young adults, women, African Americans, Latin Americans, urbanites, suburbanites,
white collar professionals, and the college educated. As you can tell there is a diverse group of people
that are getting tattoos, it s not just one culture getting them so having tattooed bodies is something
that is becoming more popular for all cultures and is also becoming a trend that everyone wants to be a
part of. Tattoos are a big cultural phenomenon in today s world, because they are something that
everyone can get and they are something that helps people express themselves and they are a way for
people to show their creativity. People are getting tattoos everyday and that trend will continue for
many years to come because people like

Prosopagnosia, Or Face Blindness
Prosopagnosia, or face blindness, is a neurological disorder that prohibits an individual s ability to
recognize faces. It can occur in several different manners, each with different levels of severity. Some
who have it are simply unable to recognize faces of familiar individuals, while those with more severe
forms cannot distinguish between objects and faces, or even their own reflection. In some of these
cases, it can be accompanied by issues with recognizing other objects such as cars or places.
The history of Prosopagnosia goes all the way back to the 19th century, though the first instance of the
actual term came about in 1947. Joachim Bodamer recorded a case of a 24 year old male who, after
having been shot in the head, became unable to recognize his family, friends, and even his own face.
With the disorder having been named, more studies arose, allowing for a growth in the theories behind
how it worked. For instance, the knowledge of it having many different manifestations implies that it
is based on a complex process with many stages to the perception of faces. This led to determining
where it takes place in the brain.
Not many studies have been done on the prevalence of this disorder, but one in the German student
population says about 1 in 50 people are affected by prosopagnosia. While little is known on the
subject, a few notable cases have been made apparent. These include Hubert Dreyfus, Jane Goodall,
Victoria, the crown princess of Sweden, and Oliver Sacks, a

Chris Mccandless Was Different From Other People. His Ideas
Chris McCandless was different from other people. His ideas were perceived as strange from the
outside eye. Was McCandless crazy or was he simply misunderstood? Everyone has their own opinion
on this question including Shaun Callarman. He believes Chris is just plain crazy, however there is no
hard evidence that proves this statement or completely backs it up. Callarman says I think that Chris
McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense, and he had no
business going into Alaska with his Romantic silliness. He made a lot of mistakes based on ignorance.
I don t admire him at all for his courage nor his noble ideas. Really, I think he was just plain crazy.
This statement says that he is ignorant and yes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, I do not believe that the plant McCandless ate right before death was the cause alone of his
demise, I do believe that his diet did play a role in this death. Obviously he died from starvation
because his body was not getting enough nutrients to turn into energy. He appears dangerously
malnourished weeks before ingesting the seeds that Krakauer claims killed him (Thayer). Whether it
was the seeds that killed him, the possible mold that Krakauer describes on pages 193 195, or just the
lack of nutrients and calories, he still made the mistake of ingesting too many wild potato seeds and
roots at one time without enough variety of foods. An examination of Chris s journal shows that he
went without food on many days and almost always had an extreme caloric deficit. His starvation
clearly began on April 28, not July 30 as Krakauer proposes (Thayer). This proves to be the most solid
explanation on Chris McCandless s death. Chris was not crazy because he starved or because he got
stuck in a place with limited access points. Bad luck and unthought through plans are what causes his
starvation and lead to his death.
Chris McCandless thought that he was prepared for his Alaskan odyssey. It turned out he was very ill
prepared which is what caused his death. He did not pack enough food because he compared the
amount of food he would need to his southern adventures. He also didn t have the

Essay On Biomeltration
Currently, there are no effective treatments that actively promote tissue repair and regeneration post
moderate to severe TBIs. While there have been efforts to mitigate the secondary damage post TBI,
these measures have been proven clinically unsuccessful. At present, there is no cure for neither the
initial damage nor the secondary loss of tissue post the biomechanical insult. In this study, we sought
to devise a mechanism that would provide neuroprotective factors and facilitate tissue repair post
moderate to severe TBIs. We developed a sulfated CS GAG matrix, a biomaterial native to the brain s
ECM, capable of regulating NSC behavior.29 As part of this study, we acutely delivered these sulfated
CS GAG matrices into the rat cortex after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a local upregulation of BDNF in the GAG treated animals; BDNF is known to promote
angiogenesis.30 In addition, SDF 1α also promotes angiogenesis by elucidating homing mechanisms
that facilitate hematopoietic progenitor cell migration to the injury site post TBI.31 Previous studies
indicate that blocking the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis results in abolished hematopoietic progenitor cell
homing and decreased angiogenesis.31 Our CS GAG treated animals demonstrated an upregulation of
both the CXCL12 ligand and its corresponding CXCR4 receptor. The CS GAG treated animals also
exhibited upregulation of locally produced FGF2 which is a growth factor that is pro mitogenic and
pro angiogenic. Hence, the enhanced presence of NSCs in the sulfated GAG matrices depict the
bystander effect explained earlier by promoting tissue repair through cellular mitogenesis and
angiogenesis. The amalgamation of NSC proliferation and growth factor retention in the sulfated
GAG constructs promote repair post TBI. We have previously demonstrated that CS GAGs have high
binding affinity to FGF2,26 and additionally the local upregulation of FGF2 in the lesion site post TBI
of the treated animals suggests the potential role of CS GAGs in the maintenance of undifferentiated
NSCs. BDNF is a neurotrophic factor that has demonstrated neural regeneration, reconnection, and
improved synaptic efficacy.23

Comparing My Poetry And Alfred Lord Tennyson
What makes a poet great? What is it that makes their poetry weather the ravenous jaws of critics and
stand the test of time? I ask myself this as I look at my own poetry, wondering if it too could withstand
the harsh beatings many a poet s work has been through. I wonder if I could measure up to one of the
greats, which is why I have chosen to compare and contrast my works and style of poetry with that of
the famous Alfred Lord Tennyson. I would like to show how our styles, themes, and poetic influences
differ from while showing a few similar traits they have. To start off I will compare Tennyson s poem
Tears, Idle Tears to my poem Monday Morning, Sunday Mourning. The main themes of both poems
are about reminiscing about events that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

rhyme scheme so that way I can reach a more diverse range of content without having to worry about
not having words to rhyme. Tennyson s however was very gifted at understanding rhyme and meter,
which allowed him to use many different styles when writing his poems. In some poems Tennyson
would use a simple style while in others he would employ a more complex style to increase the depth
of the poem. Furthermore, Tennyson s time period influenced his poetry heavily as well. During this
time there were a lot of scientific advancements were occurring. Theses advancements however
clashed with some religious beliefs. Tennyson s poetry allowed him to navigate the rift that had been
created between scientific advancement and religion. Tennyson was also influenced by the other major
events of the time, which allowed his poems to be relevant all the while they could still be applicable
for years to come. It was these influences that allowed Tennyson to craft his most famous works such
as Ulysses, The Charge of the Light Brigade, In Memoriam A.H.H., The Lady of Shallot, and many

The Death Of Edward II
It was 1307 and Edward I who was sixty eight at the time of his death would now pass the throne to
his son Edward II. Edward II who was Lord of Caernarfon, prince of Wales, duke of Aquitaine, earl of
Chester and count of Pontheiu would now inherit a war with Scotland from his father. Edward II was
rather a particular fellow with unusual hobbies that he showed throughout his reign. Evidence points
that Edward II may have had a relationship with Piers Gaveston, but also he had been banished from
the kingdom by his father Edward I. This incident or should I say interest in men would become one
of the biggest problems throughout all of his reign. Piers Gaveston was disliked very much by
parliament and several times was banished by Edward I during his reign. Edward II would also come
to marry Isabella the daughter of Phillip IV , which in the end led to the end of his reign, but before
we get to that, there was also a man named Hugh Despenser that would become an affectionate friend
for Edward II after Piers Gaveston death. Piers Gaveston caused much trouble for Lancaster and
Warwick. He was hated by them significantly that in 1312 he was captured and executed by them and
it caused much pain for the king who loved Gaveston much. Edward II losing his best friend and
possibly lover was forced to now rely more on his queen, Isabella, which would prove to improve the
relationship of both them during their brief time reigning together. Isabella loved Edward II very
much, but

Carl Jung s Theory Of Personality And Psychological Types
In the 1920 s, a Swiss psychologist named Carl Jung devised a theory. Jung didn t accept the idea that
the behaviors of people were random. Instead, he was a firm believer that the differences between
individuals were a result of how people use their brains. Jung claimed that what appears to be random
behavior is actually the result of differences in the way people prefer to use their mental capacities.
(The Myers Briggs Foundation). Jung realized that people typically function in one of two ways, take
in information or make decisions, and that people usually are more comfortable alone or around
others. With all these observations, Jung wrote a book titled Psychological Types, which introduced

Introverts are people who spend time thinking and reflecting before they act. Their motivation is
internal, which might end up closing them off from the world around them. Introverts usually prefer
one to one relationships, and only express intimacy with a few family members or close friends.
Introverts also love doing activities that allow them to be put in an organizational position.
Occasionally, introverts will shut down and close off from all of those around them. Personally, I
believe that is a completely accurate description of myself. I also plan out my days ahead of time, and
I love being able to put things together. While I sometimes I think that it is a negative thing, I do tend
to close off from my circle, which happens to be very small. If I do get to meet my goal of being a
teacher, my introversion definitely yields to potential for problems. Getting out of my shell would be a
challenge, without a doubt. That being said, my introversion is mostly geared towards others my age. I
am usually very comfortable around people that are older or younger than I am, which makes me
believe I would probably be okay. Other than having to overcome the challenge of opening up, being
an introvert does have upsides, such as having an urge to get things done. The next part of my INFJ
combination is that I am intuitive. Being intuitive means that I able to feel things that seem true by a
feeling that is similar to instinct. The intuitive brain wants to be able to

Survival In Auschwitz By Primo Levi And Night By Elie Wiesel
Survival in Auschwitz by Primo Levi and Night by Elie Wiesel are two tragic stories about the
experience of these Holocaust survivors during the horrors of the second world war. In the 1940 s it
was a very difficult time for Jews who were victimized by the German Nazis and sent to concentration
camps, such as Auschwitz, where conditions were worse than imaginable. Elie first entered a
concentration camp when he was 12, along with his father, mother, and three sisters. Levi, an Italian
jew, was 24 when he was sent to the camps for participating in a resistance group, but unlike Wiesel,
did not have his family by his side. Levi, despite his bitter character, acquires hope from the humanity
and compassion of others while Wiesel, even with his strong relationship with his father, can t
maintain his desire to hope for survival or alliances. As the world around the authors begins to
collapse, they are faced with evil and the uncertainty of whether to face the events with optimism or
pessimism. Levi begins his experience on a more negative note as he describes what it s like to be on

own identity. He isn t optimistic or pessimistic, he is indifferent because he feels he is no longer a

The Old Private Pension System
The old private pension system was created in the 1920 s and expanded throughout the 30 s and 40 s
(McDonnell). Private pensions were considered one of the three income sources for retired elderly.
Originally, private pensions had defined benefits. The employer and employee would agree to a
percentage of salary that the employee would receive from the company annually during retirement.
Contractually obligated, this placed the liability onto the employer. Estimates say that employees
could receive around 40% of their last year s salary as annual income with defined benefits. In the
1990 s, the pension plans gradually changed from defined benefits to defined contribution. The
employees, rather than negotiating retirement salary now determine the amount of their salary that will
be saved in a retirement fund. Retirement income is a burden on the employee rather than employer
(Ghilarducci 8). In order to equal the income of the old plans, employees give their retirement savings
to mutual funds that invest in the stock market. While a key aspect of retirement, the system has
evolved like most economic institutions, favoring the wealthy and established. Furthermore, the
private pension system contributes to a market bubble, putting money into the stock market regardless
of market strength. These two problems cause the modern pension system to be flawed and unstable.
The program must undergo drastic reform in order to save private pensions. It is evident that the
current pension

Virtual Murder Should Be Banned
Hi Darion! I think you make an excellent argument through your post this week. This week s topic is
definitely very controversial and creates a lot of discussion. Considering that virtual paedophilla is
illegal, as you mention in your initial post, I can understand your reasoning for believing that virtual
murder should be banned as well. I however, believe the opposite. As stated by Luck (2009), some
might argue that it is not the singling out of a group for harm which causes virtual paedophilia to be
worse than virtual murder, per se, but the fact that virtual paedophilia involves harming children in
particular. This argument builds upon the idea that children have a special status (Luck, 2009). In

I truly see no harm in virtual murder. According to the PBS News Hour (2013), there is no evidence
that any violent video game has ever caused a real world violent act. I look at playing these games as a
way for children to explore and gain knowledge about the world. In most cases, the child ends up
playing the game as the good guy , who is fighting the bad guy and helping to save the world. I see
nothing wrong with this. I think we should be allowing our children to feel like heroes by allowing
them to participate in such virtual worlds. When referring to the most advanced games such as Call of
Duty or Grand Theft Auto, I would not argue against placing age restriction on these games and I
mentioned in my own post, but I do not believe we need to go as far as making them illegal. Unlike
virtual paedophilia, I do not think that virtual murder takes away from the innocence of a child. I
believe that all players realize that the world they are playing in online is a different world from
reality. The players do not act the same way in the real world as they do in the virtual world. In
addition, I do not believe that the people who commit murder in real life do so because they have done

ONE COUNTRY, ONE BROKEN DREAM.
Herbert Maduro
Columbia Southern University
Simon Bolivar has been considered by many historians as the liberator of the Americas, he lead an
army that liberated Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia from the Spanish rule. Bolivar
dreamed in having these countries unified as one big country called The Gran Colombia . These
countries would have shared a centralized government and would have had the city of Bogota as its
capital.
In this article I want to explore the reasons why he could not achieve this dream of unifying these
countries and if he had what economic and social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With magnanimous sincerity, San Martin offered to place himself and his soldiers under Bolivar s
command if he would send the full Colombian army to drive the Spanish out of Peru. Unfortunately
for the patriot cause, Bolivar apparently regarded San Martin as a rival and an antagonist rather than
as a comrade in arms, an obstacle to be removed before his own fame and glory were compromised by
sharing them with another. Bolivar refused the incredibly selfless offer, saying that his delicacy would
not allow him to command San Martin, and that the Colombian Congress would not permit him to
leave Colombia to pursue the war in Peru. San Martin also indicated in an interview that he San
Martin, a keen reader of men, immediately perceived the arrogance and raw ambition that lay behind
the mask of courtly civility and empty excuses. Years later, in 1840, while living in voluntary exile in
France, the general confided his candid assessment of Bolivar s character to a visitor, Captain Lafond
de Lurcy of the French navy:
At first sight his personal appearance prejudiced me against him. He appeared to have much pride,
which was in contrast to his habit of never looking in the face of the person he was addressing unless

A Rumor Of War By Philip Caputo And Young
The Vietnam War was largely considered a failure, a waste of resources, time and precious lives. It
was simply a war that did not need to be fought. But in order to combat the ever prevailing communist
forces; the capitalists and in particular, America, decided that Vietnam would be the land where these
differences would be disputed. Men were sent in to fight in this war and they came back with very
different experiences. As seen in both perspectives held in A Rumor of War by Philip Caputo and in
We were soldiers once... and young by Hal Moore and Joseph Galloway; they explore the varying
perspectives and experienced seen and learnt within war. Whereas in A Rumor of War , it tackles the
consequences of being sent into such harsh warfare, only because Philip Caputo saw the harsh reality
firsthand as he was a soldier in the war. The former, We were soldiers once... and young tackles the
glorification of war because it s not solely a soldier s account. A journalist was in company of these
men and as such details get skewed for the public s perception. Regardless, both these books share a
telling tale of the war in Vietnam through their radically different views.
Firstly, it is important to establish the historical contexts of these two books. A Rumor of War was
published in 1977, two years after the end of the Vietnam War. It was written by a soldier who served
in the war. The period this describes is immediately the post war era and the fallout faced by soldiers

Analysis Of Benjamin Barker s The Worst Pies
Benjamin Barker is fed up with the world and he has good cause. After fifteen years of unwarranted
exile, he returns to 19th century London bent furiously on revenge for one Judge Turpin. Before he
was shipped to an Australian disciplinary colony, he had a fair life as a London barber, a beautiful
wife, and a baby girl. Enter Judge Turpin who pursues Lucy Barker with one thing on his mind. To
eliminate the competition, he exiles Benjamin on a false charge, leaving Lucy to fend for herself and
their young daughter. Through the story of Mrs. Lovett, a woman struggling to sell her meat pies
coined as the worst pies in London , Benjamin learns that the corrupt judge lured Lucy to his home
and raped her. Exeunt Benjamin Barker and enter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, the answer is death by murder. In Wait, Sweeney frantically asks an unconcerned Mrs.
Lovett, What about the judge? When will I get to him? The entire musical is about Sweeney breaking
the moral law. In the artistically stunning Epiphany, many of his Machiavellian characteristics are
made clearer than they previously may have been. He sings, And I will get him back (the Judge who
has escaped death) even as he gloats. In the meantime I ll practice on less honorable throats. Clearly,
this means he plans to murder everyone who comes into his tonsorial parlor. He is breaking the moral
law that prohibits murder and instating his own law that allows him to, in the name of vengeance,
slaughter innocents. One would have to be shrewd to murder innocents without notice and send their
corpses down to the bakehouse for Mrs. Lovett to make meat pies to sell in her shop. From the
moment, he steps off the ship that has rescued him from sea, Sweeney proves himself to be cunning.
One particular instance of craftiness comes when the street charlatan and Sweeney s former assistant,
Daniel O Higgins, comes to the shop, intending to blackmail him. Daniel brings his orphan and rather
simple assistant, Toby, with him. The scene plays out with Daniel attempting to blackmail Sweeney
for half of his earnings. Sweeney strangles him and, as he hears Toby coming up the stairs, stuffs
Daniel into a truck. Here we see the true cunning of Sweeney

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy Theory
Introduction I believe that every one has different problem, because every one has different beliefs.
Therefore, solving our problems should be connecting with our beliefs. Rational emotive behavior
therapy is one of my favorite counseling theories because it helps the clients to change their feeling
acting via change the client thought.
Two Types of Disturbance Rational emotive behavior therapy argues that a defining characteristic of
humans is that we have desires. We want certain things to happen and other things not to happen.
However, we also a have a strong tendency to transform these desires into absolute musts. When we
hold rigid beliefs of this nature, we disturb ourselves. Thus, in REBT, rigidity is seen as being at the
core of psychologically disturbed responses to adversity (Neenan Dryden, 2010). Rational emotive
behavior therapy suggests that human beings defeat or disturb themselves in two main ways: (1) by
holding irrational beliefs about their self (ego disturbance) or (2) by holding irrational beliefs about
their emotional or physical comfort (discomfort disturbance). Frequently, the two go together. Ego
disturbance represents an upset to the self image. It results from holding negative self evaluations
about one s self such as I am no good and so on. These beliefs create ego anxiety. Thus, emotional
tension resulting from the perception that one s self or personal worth is threatened. Furthermore, it
may lead to other problems such as avoidance

The Things They Carried Analysis
Story Truth and Happening Truth in
The Things They Carried
Throughout The Things They Carried, by Tim O Brien it is difficult to separate what is fictitious, and
what is true. During the entire work there are two different truths , which are story truth and happening
truth . Happening truth is the actual events that happen, and is the foundation or time line on which the
story is built on. Story truth is the molding or re shaping of the happening truth that allows the story to
be believable and enjoyable. It is not easy to distinguish happening truth from story truth , and at times
during the novel O brien reveals which is which. On the other hand, when the reader is blind to ...

Martha gave it to me herself (28). This makes the reader believe that the Tim O brien who wrote the
book is indeed the Tim O brien that is in the book, therefore this must be a true story from his
experiences in the Vietnam War. All the more, at the end of the chapter he even asks Jimmy Cross
permission to write the book the reader is looking at right then and there, At the end, though, as we
were walking out to his car, I told him that I d like to write a story about some of this... Why not? he
said... Make me out to be a good guy, okay? Brave and handsome, all that stuff. Best platoon leader
ever (29 30). Like stated before, it is nearly impossible for a blind reader to distinguish the happening
truth from story truth , but it is possible that Tim O brien and Jimmy Cross did in fact meet and talk
for a day, but the honest facts may be twisted by story truth . For example, O Brien may not remember
his and Jimmy Cross conversation throughout that entire day in great detail; therefore he may have
had to formulate and make up certain parts in order to fill in holes and perhaps make the interaction
more interesting. The first three words of the chapter How to Tell a True War Story are, This is true

chapter he has the reader thinking and confused when he contradicts himself by stating things such as,

The Myth Of Co-Sex Marriage In Andrew Sullivan s For Gay...
In the article, For Gay Marriage, author Andrew Sullivan claims that without the right to marry that
heterosexuals possess, homosexuals are denied equality. Sullivan argues that withholding this right
will not prevent homosexual relationships; instead, it would be a measure simply to restrict the same
right heterosexuals enjoy. Not allowing these homosexual couples to marry and prove their love to
each other would prevent gay adolescents from having role models in which they can learn how a
committed homosexual relationship could be. In the article, The Myth of Co Parenting: How It Was
Supposed to Be. How It Was., author Hope Edelman exhumes that marriage is not equal, and that
women are naive to believe that it is. She also examines the faults in heterosexual marriage and how
they are blighted by falsehoods and poor relationships between parents and their children. Though
they defend two different groups of people, Sullivan and Edelman would most likely agree with one
another on the redefinitions of marriage, the need to combat society s marital expectations, and the
negative effects marriage currently has on children. Through their articles, Andrew Sullivan and Hope
Edelman give their definitions of marriage. Sullivan offers an ideology from the contemporary West
that . . . marriage has become a way in which the state recognizes an emotional commitment by two
people to each other for life (Sullivan 30), where homosexuals are entitled to the right of equality. He

Character Analysis Cyrano De Bergerac
The concept of a tragic hero exists when a character prevails the traits of bravery, honor, and loyalty,
much like the main character of Cyrano in Edmond Rostand s 17th century play, Cyrano de Bergerac.
In the year of 1640, Cyrano realizes his love for Roxane, his intelligent and exquisite cousin. With the
help of a young and handsome nobleman named Christian, Cyrano expresses his love for Roxanne
through eloquent love letters that Christian delivers to Roxane, pretending that Christian himself wrote
the letters. In due time, Cyrano proves to be a tragic hero through verifying himself to be a brave,
honorable, and loyal man.
Through his acts of bravery, Cyrano is able to accomplish many of his goals and conquer his many
plans. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
15 years after Christian dies, Roxane realizes that all along, it was Cyrano writing the intuitive love
letters. After Roxane s chaotic comprehension, Cyrano promises, No, no, my own dear love, I love
you not! (Rostand 190). Even though Christian has been dead for many years, Cyrano still stays loyal
to Christian by refusing to admit his true feelings towards Roxane and continues to persuade Roxane
that it was Christian who wrote Roxane all of the letters. Cyrano s terminal allegiance to the late
Christian displays Cyrano s loyalty concerning the people in his life. Another instance where Cyrano
proves his loyalty is moments before Christian s death. Christian wants Roxane to truthfully know that
all along, it was Cyrano writing the letters to Roxane. However, Cyrano acknowledges that Christian
is on his deathbed and wants nothing more than for Christian to feel at ease. Without confessing about
the letter to Roxane, Cyrano confides to Christian, I have told her; she loves you (Rostand 169).
Moments before Christian s death, Cyrano shows loyalty towards Christian by claiming to him that
Roxane still loves Christian. Although Cyrano could have admitted the truth to Roxane, Cyrano chose
to let his love for Roxane die along with Christian showing ideal loyalty to Christian. In essence,
Cyrano is a loyal man due to his loyalty towards his deal with

Consequences Of Losing The Amazon Rainforest
The Implications of Losing the Amazon Rainforest
(First Draft)
Marianne Sembrano
Section 4
Northern Marianas College
Word Count: 1,142
Imagine life without trees. Life without trees seems unfathomable. Trees provide us with paper,
timber, oxygen for us to breath, etc. Without trees, life on Earth may probably cease to exist. Trees,
specifically forests, make up for thirty percent of the Earth s land (National Geographic, 2017), while
water covers seventy percent (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, 2017). Out of that thirty
percent, only a mere six percent is what tropical rainforests cover (Butler, 2008). According to Butler
(2008), tropical rainforests once covered over sixteen percent of the Earth, but since then, the numbers
began decreasing. Tropical rainforests, precisely the Amazon rainforest, are decreasing at such
alarming rates due to deforestation (Laurence, 1998). If the Amazon rainforest were to be lost, the
implications imposed are its effect on local matters such as wildlife, the environment, and human life
(Foley, Asner, Costa, Coe, DeFries, Gibbs,... Snyder, 2007). Although these implications are dire
consequences, some actions are being taken to prevent these measures from happening.
More than twenty percent of the air we breathe comes from the Amazon rainforest (Butler, 2008). The
main driver for the destruction of the Amazon rainforest lies in the need for further developing Brazil s
commercial agriculture and one of the biggest

An Individual Of A Different Intersectionality From Myself...
The purpose of this review is to interview an individual of a different intersectionality from myself
and comparatively review literature that correlates to the individual s demographic position in the
community, their experiences and viewpoints in relation to social work practice. The referenced
literature is comprised of several scholarly articles regarding the interviewee s cultural background
and implications for social work practice among this distinct population.
The interview subject is a middle adulthood, Ultra Orthodox, Hasidic, Jewish, married female.
The tentative conclusions drawn regarding how social work practice can best assist persons from
within this cultural group were found to be based on religious authoritative preeminence. Most
Orthodox Jews will first turn to a rabbi for advice for either social or emotional issues.
Clinicians that work with this particular group need to be well versed in their strict religious customs
and schedule of religious observances. Rabbinical guidance is most assuredly a definitive factor in the
successful counseling of Hasidic clients.
Although studies have been conducted to measure the prevalence patterns of disorder in the Jewish
community, clinical diagnosis and treatment issues most common to this population are focused on
distinguishing religious behavior from pathological behavior and if religious intervention will be
beneficial to a client s treatment (Farkas, 2013).

Red Scare Espionage
There has been a lot of contention on the matter of spies and whistleblowers since the cold war to
today. Recent acts of espionage have the public questioning government, on the acts it has taken with
these widespread criminals. The practice or act of spying to discover military and political secrets of
other nations can also be known as committing espionage. During the cold war many spies sought out
secrets of other countries for military and political information. A few years after the U.S. went into
war against Germany, the U.S. states congress passed the Espionage Act. The Espionage Act of 1917,

relationship. Many often wonder how their life has changed when they add another person to it, but
for myself, it impacted my life in a very big way. I used to rarely do activities with friends, as I would
mostly do activities by myself. I was always okay with being alone, however, when I met my
boyfriend everything changed. We started spending every waking minute with each other and doing
activities that we equally liked doing. It became more of a partnership than anything. This changed my
leisure pattern because now I rely on my partner and what he is doing, as well as plan any and all my

Tokyo is on the ocean side of the island, making the city incredibly susceptible. Typhoons can cause
flooding and landslides, which can be extremely dangerous to people and cause destruction such as
collapsed buildings and fallen trees. The volcanoes belong to the Pacific Ring of Fire, caused by
subduction zones of the Pacific plate beneath continental and other oceanic plates along its margins.
Japan lies in a zone of extreme crustal instability. Mount Fuji poses the biggest threat the Tokyo.
Located only 60 miles from Tokyo, this stratovolcano is very much active and could cause mass
hysteria for many people when it next erupts. A volcanic eruption can pour ash and lava all over the
city. Over the years, Japan has taken lots of steps to lighten the damage future earthquakes could
inflict. Scientists are studying ways to predict the occurrence of quakes more accurately. Authorities
have put strict laws on the construction buildings so they are more resistant to quakes. Many local
governments have adopted an earthquake prevention plan that outlines the steps that should be taken
in case a major earthquake strikes, including the regulation of traffic, closing of banks and department
stores, and evacuation of residents. The Tokyo metropolitan government conducts periodic checks on
the safety of buildings in designated danger zones. At schools and workplaces, evacuation drills are
held several times a year.

  • 3. The Pollution Of Water Pollution Fresh Water Pollution WILLIAM WRIGHT GRANTHAM UNIVERSITY In this paper I will discuss one of the world s problems which is the pollution of the Fresh Water Systems in the United States. I will show how the pollution of fresh water affects land, air and plant life to include humanity. When water is polluted it can affect all living things. Some of the human activities that can be affected is the drinking water, without fresh drinking water humans would not be able to survive. One of the pleasures that humans enjoy is swimming although humans can swim in the oceans some enjoy lakes and if the lakes are polluted then that activity would not be able to be performed. Also without fresh water much there would be lost of sea life and those who rely on fishing as a way of life would be out of resources to provide for their families. Water pollution is a global problem it is reported that more than 1,030327 deaths occur from dirty water diseases. Dirty water is considered to be one of human s greatest dangers. Dirty water contains organisms which are called pathogens; these pathogens contain bacteria, viruses and parasitic organisms. What these organisms do is infect humans which cause illness. Some of the illness that can be caused by polluted water is Typhoid which is an infectious bacterial; this causes fever with an outbreak of red spots on the chest and abdomen and severe gastral irritation. Another illness is Cholera which is infectious and is a fatal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Why Everest Should Be Open Mount Everest SHOULD be Open Many people enjoy climbing mountains. Mount Everest has the highest and tallest peak in the world, standing high at 29,029 feet. Mount Everest is in the young Asian mountain range called The Himalayas. The Himalayas borders China, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Pakistan, and India. More specifically, Mount Everest borders Tibet and Nepal. This enormous mountain was first conquered on May 29, 1953, by Sir Edmund Hillary alongside Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. ( Everything You Never Knew About Mount Everest ) There is a multitude of reasons that Mount Everest should remain open for climbing. They include economic impact, health benefits, and the extermination of an ethnic group. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Climbing helps strengthen one s cardiovascular system. Also, climbing tones most muscles in a human s body. Next, climbing tests mental capability in a plethora of different ways. Another advantage to mountain climbing is that it reduces stress because it allows one to almost escape. As well as, climbing exercises can prevent long term chronic disease. Climbing can drastically expand life expectancy and without Everest, the tallest of mountains, that is essentially taking away from some people s lives. ( Rodgers ) Lastly, without Mount Everest, an entire culture would be annihilated and this culture is called The Sherpas. Sherpa literally means easterner. The Sherpas transport heavy equipment up and down the mountain. Sherpas migrated from Tibet over to the Nepalese side of the mountain. Closing Mount Everest for climbing would cause The Sherpa s socioeconomic system to crash because without money a society may not function. It is insane to destroy a culture that has strived immensely over the past ten years. Overall, It is simply common sense not to destroy any culture because the Sherpas are people ... • 5. Key Implications Of The Solow Model The Solow model is widely considered to be the standard neoclassical economic growth model which serves as the basis for understanding economic growth. I will first introduce the two basic equations that the Solow model is built around, discussing the main assumptions made along the way. I will then present the key equation of the Solow model and discuss its results and implications. I will then address why it is desirable to use log linearization, and how it can be used to study the dynamics near the steady state. We will then briefly look into the empirical results of Mankiw et al. (1992) and what they mean for the Solow model. We begin with the aggregate production function of the model. Let us denote output (Y), capital (K), labour (L) and the index of productive efficiency (A). The production function can then be written as: Y=F(K,AL) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To the contrary, if a is high then the rate of convergence is low because diminishing returns set in slowly. The differential equation for output convergence is quite similar. Assuming Cobb Douglas technology we can show that y=k^a which then implies that y ̇/y=a k ̇/k by taking logs and differentiating with respect to time. Here a is translating a given growth rate of capital into a given growth rate of output. Substituting into the previous differential equation we get a new one for the growth rate of output: y ̇/y≈ λ[logy logy^*] The growth rate in each of these expressions is linear in the gap from the steady state measured in logarithms. Solving both differential equations and re arranging we get: logy(t) =(e^( λt) )logy(0)+(1 e^( λt) )logy^* (5) k(t) k^*=(e^( λt) )[k(0) k^*] ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A article published by the Huffington Post states that Today, 36 percent of Americans 18 25 have at least one tattoo (page 1). Tattoos are now a cultural phenomenon due to various different things and people that are making them a phenomenon. Tattoos weren t as common 25 years ago. The Huffington Post also said that those body modifications were only seen on sailors, inmates, and bike gang members (page 1). But today, you will see tattoos on the body company presidents, accountants, doctors, managers, and more because it is something that has become more acceptable overtime. According to the Huffington post, The start of the cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Huffington Post claims that Celebrities like Rihanna, David Beckham, Angelina Jolie, and Adam Levine, are several examples of mainstream media icons that have tattoos and openly display them (page 1). A cultural phenomenon occurs when certain individuals behave a certain way merely because other individuals do as well. Celebrities getting tattoos is a perfect example of a cultural phenomenon because the celebrities are the individuals that started the trend and then their fans start to get the same tattoos because it considered cool since the celebrities did it first, causing a bandwagon effect. The people who are getting tattoos come from all walks of life. The canvases are teenagers and young adults, women, African Americans, Latin Americans, urbanites, suburbanites, white collar professionals, and the college educated. As you can tell there is a diverse group of people that are getting tattoos, it s not just one culture getting them so having tattooed bodies is something that is becoming more popular for all cultures and is also becoming a trend that everyone wants to be a part of. • 7. Prosopagnosia, Or Face Blindness Prosopagnosia, or face blindness, is a neurological disorder that prohibits an individual s ability to recognize faces. It can occur in several different manners, each with different levels of severity. Some who have it are simply unable to recognize faces of familiar individuals, while those with more severe forms cannot distinguish between objects and faces, or even their own reflection. In some of these cases, it can be accompanied by issues with recognizing other objects such as cars or places. The history of Prosopagnosia goes all the way back to the 19th century, though the first instance of the actual term came about in 1947. Joachim Bodamer recorded a case of a 24 year old male who, after having been shot in the head, became unable to recognize his family, friends, and even his own face. With the disorder having been named, more studies arose, allowing for a growth in the theories behind how it worked. For instance, the knowledge of it having many different manifestations implies that it is based on a complex process with many stages to the perception of faces. This led to determining where it takes place in the brain. Not many studies have been done on the prevalence of this disorder, but one in the German student population says about 1 in 50 people are affected by prosopagnosia. While little is known on the subject, a few notable cases have been made apparent. These include Hubert Dreyfus, Jane Goodall, Victoria, the crown princess of Sweden, and Oliver Sacks, a ... • 8. Chris Mccandless Was Different From Other People. His Ideas Chris McCandless was different from other people. His ideas were perceived as strange from the outside eye. Was McCandless crazy or was he simply misunderstood? Everyone has their own opinion on this question including Shaun Callarman. He believes Chris is just plain crazy, however there is no hard evidence that proves this statement or completely backs it up. Callarman says I think that Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense, and he had no business going into Alaska with his Romantic silliness. He made a lot of mistakes based on ignorance. I don t admire him at all for his courage nor his noble ideas. Really, I think he was just plain crazy. This statement says that he is ignorant and yes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I do not believe that the plant McCandless ate right before death was the cause alone of his demise, I do believe that his diet did play a role in this death. Obviously he died from starvation because his body was not getting enough nutrients to turn into energy. He appears dangerously malnourished weeks before ingesting the seeds that Krakauer claims killed him (Thayer). Whether it was the seeds that killed him, the possible mold that Krakauer describes on pages 193 195, or just the lack of nutrients and calories, he still made the mistake of ingesting too many wild potato seeds and roots at one time without enough variety of foods. An examination of Chris s journal shows that he went without food on many days and almost always had an extreme caloric deficit. His starvation clearly began on April 28, not July 30 as Krakauer proposes (Thayer). This proves to be the most solid explanation on Chris McCandless s death. Chris was not crazy because he starved or because he got stuck in a place with limited access points. Bad luck and unthought through plans are what causes his starvation and lead to his death. Chris McCandless thought that he was prepared for his Alaskan odyssey. It turned out he was very ill prepared which is what caused his death. He did not pack enough food because he compared the amount of food he would need to his southern adventures. He also didn t have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While there have been efforts to mitigate the secondary damage post TBI, these measures have been proven clinically unsuccessful. At present, there is no cure for neither the initial damage nor the secondary loss of tissue post the biomechanical insult. In this study, we sought to devise a mechanism that would provide neuroprotective factors and facilitate tissue repair post moderate to severe TBIs. There was a local upregulation of BDNF in the GAG treated animals; BDNF is known to promote angiogenesis.30 In addition, SDF 1α also promotes angiogenesis by elucidating homing mechanisms that facilitate hematopoietic progenitor cell migration to the injury site post TBI.31 Previous studies indicate that blocking the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis results in abolished hematopoietic progenitor cell homing and decreased angiogenesis.31 Our CS GAG treated animals demonstrated an upregulation of both the CXCL12 ligand and its corresponding CXCR4 receptor. The CS GAG treated animals also exhibited upregulation of locally produced FGF2 which is a growth factor that is pro mitogenic and pro angiogenic. Hence, the enhanced presence of NSCs in the sulfated GAG matrices depict the bystander effect explained earlier by promoting tissue repair through cellular mitogenesis and angiogenesis. The amalgamation of NSC proliferation and growth factor retention in the sulfated GAG constructs promote repair post TBI. We have previously demonstrated that CS GAGs have high binding affinity to FGF2,26 and additionally the local upregulation of FGF2 in the lesion site post TBI of the treated animals suggests the potential role of CS GAGs in the maintenance of undifferentiated NSCs. I ask myself this as I look at my own poetry, wondering if it too could withstand the harsh beatings many a poet s work has been through. I wonder if I could measure up to one of the greats, which is why I have chosen to compare and contrast my works and style of poetry with that of the famous Alfred Lord Tennyson. I would like to show how our styles, themes, and poetic influences differ from while showing a few similar traits they have. Elie first entered a concentration camp when he was 12, along with his father, mother, and three sisters. • 20. The Old Private Pension System The old private pension system was created in the 1920 s and expanded throughout the 30 s and 40 s (McDonnell). Private pensions were considered one of the three income sources for retired elderly. Originally, private pensions had defined benefits. The employer and employee would agree to a percentage of salary that the employee would receive from the company annually during retirement. Contractually obligated, this placed the liability onto the employer. Estimates say that employees could receive around 40% of their last year s salary as annual income with defined benefits. In the 1990 s, the pension plans gradually changed from defined benefits to defined contribution. The employees, rather than negotiating retirement salary now determine the amount of their salary that will be saved in a retirement fund. Retirement income is a burden on the employee rather than employer (Ghilarducci 8). In order to equal the income of the old plans, employees give their retirement savings to mutual funds that invest in the stock market. While a key aspect of retirement, the system has evolved like most economic institutions, favoring the wealthy and established. Furthermore, the private pension system contributes to a market bubble, putting money into the stock market regardless of market strength. These two problems cause the modern pension system to be flawed and unstable. The program must undergo drastic reform in order to save private pensions. It is evident that the current pension ... • 25. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy Theory Introduction I believe that every one has different problem, because every one has different beliefs. Therefore, solving our problems should be connecting with our beliefs. Rational emotive behavior therapy is one of my favorite counseling theories because it helps the clients to change their feeling acting via change the client thought. Two Types of Disturbance Rational emotive behavior therapy argues that a defining characteristic of humans is that we have desires. We want certain things to happen and other things not to happen. However, we also a have a strong tendency to transform these desires into absolute musts. When we hold rigid beliefs of this nature, we disturb ourselves. Thus, in REBT, rigidity is seen as being at the core of psychologically disturbed responses to adversity (Neenan Dryden, 2010). Rational emotive behavior therapy suggests that human beings defeat or disturb themselves in two main ways: (1) by holding irrational beliefs about their self (ego disturbance) or (2) by holding irrational beliefs about their emotional or physical comfort (discomfort disturbance). Frequently, the two go together. Ego disturbance represents an upset to the self image. It results from holding negative self evaluations about one s self such as I am no good and so on. These beliefs create ego anxiety. Thus, emotional tension resulting from the perception that one s self or personal worth is threatened. In the article, For Gay Marriage, author Andrew Sullivan claims that without the right to marry that heterosexuals possess, homosexuals are denied equality. Sullivan argues that withholding this right will not prevent homosexual relationships; instead, it would be a measure simply to restrict the same right heterosexuals enjoy. Not allowing these homosexual couples to marry and prove their love to each other would prevent gay adolescents from having role models in which they can learn how a committed homosexual relationship could be. In the article, The Myth of Co Parenting: How It Was Supposed to Be. How It Was., author Hope Edelman exhumes that marriage is not equal, and that women are naive to believe that it is. She also examines the faults in heterosexual marriage and how they are blighted by falsehoods and poor relationships between parents and their children. Though they defend two different groups of people, Sullivan and Edelman would most likely agree with one another on the redefinitions of marriage, the need to combat society s marital expectations, and the negative effects marriage currently has on children. Consequences Of Losing The Amazon Rainforest The Implications of Losing the Amazon Rainforest (First Draft) Marianne Sembrano Section 4 Northern Marianas College Word Count: 1,142 Imagine life without trees. Life without trees seems unfathomable. Trees provide us with paper, timber, oxygen for us to breath, etc. Without trees, life on Earth may probably cease to exist. Trees, specifically forests, make up for thirty percent of the Earth s land (National Geographic, 2017), while water covers seventy percent (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, 2017). Out of that thirty percent, only a mere six percent is what tropical rainforests cover (Butler, 2008). According to Butler (2008), tropical rainforests once covered over sixteen percent of the Earth, but since then, the numbers began decreasing. Tropical rainforests, precisely the Amazon rainforest, are decreasing at such alarming rates due to deforestation (Laurence, 1998). If the Amazon rainforest were to be lost, the implications imposed are its effect on local matters such as wildlife, the environment, and human life (Foley, Asner, Costa, Coe, DeFries, Gibbs,... Snyder, 2007). Although these implications are dire consequences, some actions are being taken to prevent these measures from happening. The tentative conclusions drawn regarding how social work practice can best assist persons from within this cultural group were found to be based on religious authoritative preeminence. Most Orthodox Jews will first turn to a rabbi for advice for either social or emotional issues. Clinicians that work with this particular group need to be well versed in their strict religious customs and schedule of religious observances. His statement made me pause for a few seconds but, I was convinced that I was doing the right thing for myself and my family s name and honor. The strongest movativator was fear. • 33. Single Life Altering Event Analysis Question #1a The single life altering event that has happened to me was entering a long term relationship. Many often wonder how their life has changed when they add another person to it, but for myself, it impacted my life in a very big way. I used to rarely do activities with friends, as I would mostly do activities by myself. I was always okay with being alone, however, when I met my boyfriend everything changed. We started spending every waking minute with each other and doing activities that we equally liked doing. It became more of a partnership than anything. This changed my leisure pattern because now I rely on my partner and what he is doing, as well as plan any and all my activities with him. We take into account each of our similarities ... • 35. Visit At St. Mark s Basilica Visit St. Mark s Basilica It s beautiful outside, with its big onion domes and multi colored marble pillars, and the interior is floor to ceiling mosaics. There s no fee to tour the main part of the basilica, and even booking an entry time online (so you don t have to wait in the sometimes long line out front) is free, so after you ve wandered the city this should be your next stop. The views are great, and you get an up close and personal look at the big bells that you ll hear ringing out the time all over the city. • 36. Deforestation In Japanese Essay Japan as a whole is a disaster prone country, mostly due to its position on the Pacific Rim fault line, but also because of climatic and seismic factors. However, for the purpose of this assignment I will be focusing specifically on the region of Tokyo Yokohama. Yokohama is a city of 3.7 million located on the western coast of Tokyo Bay, roughly 17 miles south of Tokyo. Yokohama is the second largest city in Japan, beaten out only by Tokyo. The combined population of Tokyo and Yokohama Metropolitan Area is 16,889,000 so roughly 17,000,000 people are living in 1,013 square miles, making for extremely densely populated conditions. (These households and population data are based on the results of the Population Census 2010.) Yokohama s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tokyo is on the ocean side of the island, making the city incredibly susceptible. Typhoons can cause flooding and landslides, which can be extremely dangerous to people and cause destruction such as collapsed buildings and fallen trees. The volcanoes belong to the Pacific Ring of Fire, caused by subduction zones of the Pacific plate beneath continental and other oceanic plates along its margins. Japan lies in a zone of extreme crustal instability. Mount Fuji poses the biggest threat the Tokyo. Located only 60 miles from Tokyo, this stratovolcano is very much active and could cause mass hysteria for many people when it next erupts. A volcanic eruption can pour ash and lava all over the city. Over the years, Japan has taken lots of steps to lighten the damage future earthquakes could inflict. Scientists are studying ways to predict the occurrence of quakes more accurately. Authorities have put strict laws on the construction buildings so they are more resistant to quakes. Many local governments have adopted an earthquake prevention plan that outlines the steps that should be taken in case a major earthquake strikes, including the regulation of traffic, closing of banks and department stores, and evacuation of residents. The Tokyo metropolitan government conducts periodic checks on the safety of buildings in designated danger zones. At schools and workplaces, evacuation drills are held several times a year. ...
