Software is the generic term for programs.
It consists of instructions for controlling and
directing the computer. We use software to
perform varied task using the computer.
1. The System Software - This is the
operating system that is found or bundled
inside all computer machines.
2. The Application Software - This
contains the system that commands the
particular task or solves a particular problem.

examples:
• Microsoft Windows (Windows 95,XP,7&8)
• Mac OS (Snow Leopard,Lion, Mountain Lion)
• Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora)
• DOS
2. Programming Languages
examples:
• Java C++
• TASM
• Machine Code
1. Custom Software
- made for specific purpose.
example:
Transaction Processing
(enrollment system)
2. Commercial Software / General
Purpose
- used in variety of task such as writing
papers, calculating numbers, drawing, playing
games and others.
Example:
Microsoft Office
Instructional Software are software
that are used in the instructional process.
These are called Computer-Based
Instructional Materials (CBI).
• Be extremely cautious.
• Must always be substance over form.
• These resources must be evaluate using
sound pedagogical principles
• Observe clarity in explanations and
illustrations of concepts and principles.
• Maintain accuracy, coherence, logic of
information.
• The data and statistics must not be
obsolete.
• Relevant and effective in attaining the
learning objectives.
• Observe absence of biased materials
(gender bias or racial bias) .
