• Software is a collection of a set of a programs which are
used to execute all kinds of specific instruction.
• These programs tells the computers what to do and
software cannot execute without hardware.
There are two types of software:-
1. System Software.
2. Application Software.

3. System Software
• It’s is type of computer programs that are designed to
run a computer hardware and application programs.
• It also enables other Application programs to execute.
• This software is develop to control hardware
components.
Examples:
• Operating System (DOS, Windows, etc)
• Utility Software (Data backup program, etc)
• Device Driver

4. Operating Systems:
• An operating system is a set of program that manages all
computers components and operations.
• A computer cannot do anything without operating
system and must be installed on computer system.
• User interact with the computer system.
Utility Software:
• A utility software is a type of system software that is
used for effective management of computer system.
• The user can use utility program to perform
maintenance tasjs related to different devices and
programs.
• The utility program keeps computer system running
smoothly.

5. Device Drivers:
• A device driver is a program that is used to operate and
control a device attached to the computer.
• Device drivers are provided by manufacture of devices.
• The device cannot function without device drivers.

• It’s a type of computer program that are specially
designed to solve a problems of users to perform
specific tasks.
• This software is also used to provide audio, video or
multimedia entertainment to the user.
• Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Photoshop
are the example of application software.

• Cost of customized software is more than the package
software.

• They are also known as off-the-shell (ready made)
programs which are designed for sale to the general
publics.
• Software developers also acquire packaged software for
their ease.
• The facilitate the users in all fields of life.
• Microsoft Office Package (MS-Word, MS-Excel, etc),
ORACLE, Graphics software, Communications programs
are the examples.
