Teachingmethod
Challenges/difficulties that are related to teaching and learning English as a
secondlanguage.
Before search :
(Inmy opinion)
1* More than one meaning for one word.
Learning
New learners confused when they find a different meaning for one word, and sometime they use
the wrong word.
Teaching
Some teacher find many difficulties to convince students about possibility to find more than one
meaning for the one word
Teacher is not able to caver all meaning for one word
2* Pronunciation
Learning
Most of English learners in Arab countries pronounce some words by mistake. For instance, they
have difficulties to pronounce a vowel sound.
Teaching
There are some challenges to teach student how to speak and pronounce words right. Students
are no native speaker, and there are many letters that can make different sound
3* Different culture and civilization.
Learning
As learners of English language we have to read about literature such as novels and stories, but
some novel includes inadmissible part. That we cannot accept it as new learners. Some story
takes about goddess or unacceptable relationship. This kind of stories are unethical in our
culture.
Teaching
One of big challenges that any teacher had is to force student to memorize poems or read a
long play.
After search
1-Slang and colloquialism
With the English language having such an extensive vocabulary and complicated grammar, there
is enough to teach students wanting to learn English, rarely are students exposed to the slang
words used by English speakers in every day conversation. Sentences can be predominantly
filled with slang words, so maintaining a conversation can be difficult for anyone who doesn't
understand what they mean.*
2- Variations in English
The variations in the different forms of English can often be difficult to understand. For example, the
difference between using formal and informal language or the differences between spoken and written
language. This leads to students writing words phonetically, i.e. how they would say it rather than how its
actually spelt, and using informal language, maybe even slang that they have picked up, in formal
situations which may perhaps be viewed negatively.
3-Spelling
Spelling is not easy because of many reasons such as
1) Pupils can not read words especially in sixth elementary grade, 1st and the 2nd year intermediate.
2) They do not know the correct pronunciation of some English words.
3) Spelling and Pronunciation are not well-matched in English.
4) There are 26 letters in English that have 44 sounds*

For example, the difference between using formal and informal language or the differences between spoken and written language. This leads to students writing words phonetically, i.e. how they would say it rather than how its actually spelt, and using informal language, maybe even slang that they have picked up, in formal situations which may perhaps be viewed negatively.
  • 4. 3-Spelling Spelling is not easy because of many reasons such as 1) Pupils can not read words especially in sixth elementary grade, 1st and the 2nd year intermediate. 2) They do not know the correct pronunciation of some English words. 3) Spelling and Pronunciation are not well-matched in English. 4) There are 26 letters in English that have 44 sounds* 1* http://www.omniglot.com/language/articles/englishlearningchallenges.htm 2*http://www.slideshare.net/abammar/common-difficulties-and-solutions-in-teaching-english-as
