Carl Jung was an influential psychiatrist who developed a theory of personality. His theory proposed that personality has three parts: the ego, personal unconscious, and collective unconscious. The collective unconscious contains archetypes shared among all people. Jung also described two attitudes toward reality (extraversion and introversion) and four basic functions of personality (thinking, feeling, sensing, intuiting). He is recognized as making key contributions to understanding personality structure and the human psyche.
