Murray Compensation Inc. Case Study
Re: Murray Compensation, Inc.
Facts
Murray Compensation, Inc. (Murray), an SEC registrant that provides payroll processing and
benefit administration services to other companies, granted 100,000 at the money employee
share options on January 1, 2006. The awards have a grant date fair value of $6, vest at the end of
the third year of service (cliff vesting), and have an exercise price of $21.
Subsequent to the awards being granted, the stock price has fallen significantly. On January 1,
2008, Murray decreased the exercise price on the stock options to $12. This downward adjustment
to the exercise price was made in order to ensure that the options continue to provide intended

However, at issue is the calculation of compensation expense for the years subsequent to the

incremental value.

Period Post-Harlem Renaissance
Realism, Naturalism, and Modernism is the period post Harlem Renaissance. Realism,
Naturalism, and Modernism is considered a reality check. The high period of the Renaissance
was over, and the realization set in we re still black in America. This Realism, Naturalism, and
Modernism brought a new style of writing. The writing took a naturalistic approach, meaning there
was no sugar coating, no pandering, and everything you read was real. Many new writers came
about in this era of Realism, Naturalism, and Modernism writers like Ralph Ellison. Ralph Ellison
was born in Oklahoma City in March of 1914. Ellison took an early interest in the arts,
specifically music. Music helped develop Ellison s passion for the arts, Ellison s music would also

The Genetic Disorder Or Autoimmune Disease
A.Who first discovered the genetic disorder or autoimmune disease? Kraepelin recognized
biological causes of mental illnesses. He is believed to be the first person to seriously study
mental illnesses. Kraepelin s Manic Depressive Insanity and Paranoia in 1921 detailed the
difference between manic depressive and praecox, which is now known as schizophrenia.
B. Is the disease state recessive or dominant? One study has also found a higher frequency in
families where the disorder is inherited from mothers. A particular case inquiry may be considered,
assuming that bipolar affective disorder can be inherited as a sex linked recessive trait or as an
autosomal recessive trait.
C. Differentiate between recessive or dominant? The difference between the two is that it depends
on the parents in which one or the both have the gene that is dominant but in which chase if it is
recessive it would not get passed down.
D. Is it a chromosomal abnormality? Although there is compelling evidence from twin, family, and
adoption studies to support strong genetic determinants for bipolar affective disorder, the
underlying molecular genetic basis for this condition remains poorly understood. The identification
of the genes responsible for major psychiatric illnesses such as bipolar disorder would greatly
enhance our understanding of etiology, as well as open new avenues for the development of more
specific and effective treatments.
E. Is it autosomal or sex linked? A particular case inquiry may be

Nursing Shortage For The Health Care Delivery System
Nursing Shortage in America In 1960, Virginia Avenel Henderson a nurse and a theorist in the
same time, defined nursing, the unique function of the nurse is to assist the individual, sick or
well, in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery (or to a peaceful
death) that he would perform unaided if he had the necessary strength, will or knowledge. And to
do this in such a way as to help him gain independence as rapidly as possible . It is a noble
function and to be fulfilled at the highest levels, it takes time, patience and the devotion. When the
number of people given this care is much lower than that of people who must receive the care, then
a crisis occurs. The phenomenon is acute not only in America but all around the world. Even if the
nursing is considered a meaningful work, the country is facing a nursing shortagethat grows more
with each passing year. Nursing shortages in America affect all parts of the health care delivery
system. The nursing profession is a challenge. As a nurse, you must remember every day that you
can both alleviate suffering patients by administering treatment prescribed by a doctor and by a
good word and a smile. For a good nurse should not matter how hard the day was, how much
trouble it encountered, but must remember the core values of the profession and why he/she chose
this profession. Nurses play an important role in the healthcare system. This is why they have been
correctly referred to as the heart

North American Free Trade Agreement
North American Free Trade Agreement
The North American Free Trade Agreement is a regulation between Mexico, Canada, and the
United States which eliminates most tariffs on trade among them. This agreement was
implemented January 1, 1994 with the purpose to encourage economic activity among the member
countries. At the time, it established the largest free trade region in the world and included the
elimination of tariffs, agreements on trades in services, and a dispute settlement mechanism for
trade disagreements. NAFTA was highly controversial at the time, with many Canadian and
American labor leaders expressing concern that many manufacturing jobs would be relocated to
Mexican factories due to the low cost of labor. In the 1992 US ... Show more content on

Today NAFTA is a $19 trillion market with about 470 million consumers.
In 1993 the average GDP growth rate for Canada was 2.6% and in 1994 it was 4.6%, a 2%
increase! From 1993 2003 Canada s economy grew by 30.9% and Canada s exports to the United
States expanded by 250%. But Canada did struggle to reduce high unemployment rates 9%
throughout most of the 1990s. Canada did not experience a significant loss in labor jobs during
this period, but the Canadian dollar was at historic low levels in relation to the US dollar, which
helped to make Canadian goods competitive on the world market. NAFTA has clearly been a
benefit to Canada s economy and continues to have a noticeable effect to this very day.
The Mexican Peso Crisis
The Mexican Peso Crisis in December 1994 was a currency crisis that was sparked by the Mexican
government s devaluation of the peso against the U.S. dollar. In 1994, the government started
expansionary fiscal and monetary policy in an attempt to attract more foreign investment dollars
into Mexico. It used an odd form of government debt to attract investment. The government issued
short term debt in the local currency, peso, but promised to repay the debt in US dollars. Basically,
the government was gambling that the peso would remain strong or even strengthen against the US
dollar so the government s debt would be reduced. I think the logic was that the government
believed that new

The, Twelve Angry Men, By Reginald Rose
Set in the 1950 s post depression America and written by world renowned playwright Reginald
Rose, Twelve Angry Men has become a much loved classic within the drama playwright genre.
With an abundance of audacious themes skillfully displayed throughout the feature length play,
Rose has pushed the boundaries of the overly oppressive era from which the play was first
published. The two main themes that were explored to great lengths throughout the play were
prejudices and stereotypes. These themes were both highlighted through the use of three key
literary devices; structure, setting and interactions of characters. Prior to act 1, character names
are not listed in the structure, the characters are known only as their assigned juror numbers, this
is to prevent the audience from developing prejudices of the juror, The 8th Juror gazes out the
window. The 12th Juror looks at him for a moment then moves away , (pg. 4). This decision also
puts the audience in a similar position to which the jurors are in; making a decision on facts
provided without any bias. Act one of the play is set in America after the abolishment of slavery,
yet racism was still extremely prevalent and widely accepted throughout the country. This certain
prejudicial issue is highlighted in many key scenes during the play. The 10th Juror is a perfect
example of how the setting affects the play and depicts the themes of prejudices and stereotypes;

Driven to Their Death
Driven to Their Death I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure
suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Elie Wiesel once said. Nazis tormented the
Jews all throughout the Holocaustjust because they didn t like their race. There have been multiple
movies, books, and graphic novels about the holocaust showing all the traumatic deaths, and other
horrifying events that took place. The graphic novel Maus written by Art Spiegelman shows the
survival story of a man named Vladek, and written by his son Artie. Vladek was a true survivor,
whether it was purely luck or not, but he also cared about other people who were there with him. In
the movie Schindler s List directed by Steven Spielberg this shows the story about the holocaust and
how one man named Schindler saved many men, women, and families. In both stories, there are
multiple motifs such as trains, lists, and death. Both stories show the same motifs in very similar
ways. One way the motifs are the same is that the trains represent their journey to their own death.
In Maus, there are multiple pictures of trains throughout the novel. Trains were used for
transportation and ultimately to send Jewsto concentration camps. One of the most important trains
was the one that the Spiegelman s were on when they thought they were going to Hungary, but they
ended up being at Auschwitz.

The Most Dangerous Game General Zaroff Quotes
It reminds me of when my dad made me choose which of my pet calves to slaughter with my own
hands for my sixth birthday. I couldn t choose so I slaughtered both of them... They were delicious.
This quote from Ron Swanson of Parks and Recreation really ties into The Most Dangerous Game .
In the story The Most Dangerous Game, this man, Sanger Rainsford, had fallen off a yacht and
swam to an island with a huge mansion on it. Rainsford thinks that he has been saved when
General Zaroff welcomes him into his house and feeds him dinner. Rainsford then figures out that
General Zaroff has invented a new breed of animal to hunt because regular animals bored him; he
lures people to the island and hunts them for the game. General Zaroff challenges Rainsford... Show

One part of the story is when General Zaroff is showing off his room of animal heads, and then he
talks about how he will show Rainsford another room full of other (human) heads. At first, Zaroff
invites Rainsford to look at his taxidermied animal heads, and then he starts talking about his
other heads . This brings so much suspense to the story because we have an idea of what kind of
heads he is talking about, but we need that reassurance that we re right. Another part in the story
that brings the readers the most suspense is when General Zaroff is talking about the new type of
animal that he had invented: I wanted the ideal animal to hunt, explained the general. So I said,
`What are the attributes of an ideal quarry? And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage,
cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason (Page 8). This is the most vivid and striking part
in the story because at this point, we know what Zaroff is talking about a human. During the entire
time while we re reading the story, we are reading so intensely to find out what happens next. The
suspense makes this story

Aries Of Taurus
Aries: The main challenge that Aries people face is the relentless impatience that they feel within
themselves. They can have fierce tempers and can easily explode into a temper tantrum when they
re feeling frustrated. They typically want what they want, when they want it! Due to this, physical
exercise and meditation are both excellent ways for them to work off their frustrations and regain
balance within themselves.
They also tend to have very strong personalities and are usually very direct and sometimes blunt.
This can cause them to rub other people the wrong way without actually meaning to. Therefore,
they have a great need to develop their diplomacy skills.

They have the unfortunate tendency to see the glass is half empty. Thus, they can be very negative
and pessimistic about life.
In addition, they can be incredibly and unrealistically hard on themselves. Disciplining themselves
to realize that there are 2 sides to every coin will help them to see their blessings in life instead of
what falls short of their expectations.
Learning to value their home life, love life, family, and friendships will give them a greater sense
of balance in their life and will help them to recharge their batteries. Ironically, this will ultimately
help them to succeed faster in their careers because they re able to approach work from a more
positive mindset.
Aquarius: The sun in Aquarius individual tends to deeply mistrust authority figures. This usually
begins with their parents and then moves on to teachers and employers.
In all the stages of their life, this can get them into hot water because they tend to openly and
sometimes aggressively challenge authority figures.
They have a deep belief that respect must be earned and not simply given because of an impressive
title.
This, of course, isn t a bad thing at all, but sometimes they can definitely misjudge people and later

The Andean Music Essay
The performance given by the Andean ensemble was quite spectacular, from the marching in of
the Tarkeda Los Jovenes and the fact that it used recorders and drums in way which I don t think I
ve heard before. I also think that the arrangement of the songs on the concert was well done,
starting off with an upbeat song then transitioning to songs that have a sort of slow fast form to
them and concluding with sort of dance musicthat the audience couldn t help but move to. The
instruments that were used in the concertare what surprised me the most, which included guitars,
drums, flute, shakers, recorders, and violin to name a few. To be completely honest I didn t really
know much about the Andean music prior to this experience as it wasn t something I was exposed

The music from both ensembles is so inclusive and both physically and mentally that the
audience members can t help but be drawn into the music. One of my favorite components that
both of these ensembles encompassed which was prevalent by the audience members reaction
and interaction is the component of dance and movement. I feel as though dance has a way of
bringing people together. Looking out in the audience of both concerts there was so much
diversity in the crowd yet we all came together to listen to this wonderful music that made us feel
something deep inside. Now of course there are differences in the way the cultures interact and
there struggles and hardship, as well as joy and peace which is reflected in the music but the
underlying message is the same we are all human beings and despite were we come from we are
all the same, this means that music cultures may have origins and root in a certain place but it

Definition Of Liberation Hermeneutics
tion of liberation theology. The option functions as a hermeneutical tool for interpreting reality and
theological sources.
It is therefore appropriate to introduce liberation hermeneutics as distinct from liberation theology
within the broad arena of social scientific interest in the Bible within which several sub disciplines
have taken on whole lives of their own, both in the sheer volume of literature published and in the
ideological stances they represent.
Theology
Liberation
hermeneutics
Liberation theology experience DEVELOPMENT OF LIBERATION HERMENEUTICS
Liberation hermeneutics developed a three part agenda. In opposition to the stated objectives of
many forms of classical theology, experience takes precedence over theory. The dominant
experience of a majority of people in the two thirds world, in which liberation theology emerged, is
the experience of poverty suffering malnutrition, lack of access to basic human rights, education,
clean water, medicine and the like. Hence first, a liberation hermeneutics begins with the experience
of the injustice of poverty. Second it attempts to analyse or assess the reasons of this impoverished
existence. Third, actions take precedence over rhetoric. Liberationists seek to determine a cause of
corrective measures based on their previous observations, insights and judgments. In the liberation
hermeneutic, the Bible does not normally come into play in step one of the three part agenda
outlined above but only to aid in steps two

The Height Of Colonialism Between The 18th And 20th Century
During the height of colonialism between the 17th and 20th century, almost all of Asia was at
one point either directly taken as a colonial possession, or was strongly influenced politically and
economically by a colonial power. The exception to this was Siam (now Thailand) which has
remained largely independent despite colonial pressure on all its borders (with the exception of
the concession of what is now Laos and Burma). For the sake of brevity and consistency, this
essay will only be dealing with events from between the early 19th century to the beginning of
the 20th century. During this period, the biggest threats to Siamese independence were the
British to the west, and the French to the east. As seen by the map below, by 1901, British
influence (indicated by the red) had extended to encompass the north and west of Siam
(indicated by the bottom right green), while French influence (indicated by the blue) covered
the east of Siam. As Siam was surrounded by either French or British colonies, it meant that
other Western colonial powers would need to contest French or British territories before it
would be able to consider colonising Siam. Figure 1 part of a larger map of Asia, World East
Siam s geopolitical position would prove to be extremely beneficial, as its role as a buffer
between France and Britain would allow it room to maneuver in diplomatic relations, even in the
face of aggression and unfair treaties. The treaties would make up part of the

Ishmael Chapter Reflection Paper
The chapters introduce some of the effects hunger has on human physiology and behavior. I
learned the glimpse of disrespect, discords among the villagers, forceful recruits from the rebels,
misbehavior among the youth and lack of trust amongst the villagers because of experience from
torture, mass killings, mutilations, and wars. It is vivid that one doesn t have to be in the
military to suffer psychosis issues such as depression and PTSD as reflected in Ishmael, who felt
these and expresses the feelings multiple times in the assigned chapters. I learned from the

Personally, I cannot fathom the reality of not experiencing nor enjoying my youthful years, the
experience Ismael missed in his growth development which makes me feel bad for him. Ishmael
never gets an answer to know if his family (grand parents, parents, and siblings) is dead or alive,
which is a pain he bears for life.
Furthermore, I think I changed from the way I participated in the discourse to express more
about how I feel and how it has impacted me rather than expressing more on what happens to
Ishmael in the chapters. Based on the discourse, I have changed knowing that even the next
person to me might be a victim of one assault or the other. I have changed to be more sensitive to
people s feelings and behaviors. I believe my facilitation is an effective one because I actively
got everyone engaged, empowered them to express their personal feelings, made them observed

Founding The New Country And Third Branch Essay
Founding the New Country and Third Branch
The American Revolutionary War originated by the resistance of the Americans Patriots to the
unfair taxes imposed by the British parliament. The resistance movement led into boycotts of
British goods and the destruction of a shipment of tea at the Boston Tea Party. The British
government retaliated by shutting down the Port of Boston and taking away the limited colonial
self government. The Patriots responded by taking control of the provinces governments outside of
Boston, the armed action that called the Suffolk Resolves. Twelve other American colonies
supported the caused and joined with Massachusetts and formed the First Continental Congress and
set up committees and conventions to coordinate resistance, which effectively seized power. On
July 2, 1776, the Second Continental Congress formally voted for independence and issued the
Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Thus the new Republic of United States of America
was born. Meanwhile, the British were mustering forces to suppress the Patriots movement. Gaining
financial and military support from France in 1778, the Second Continental Congress continued
during the American Revolutionary War. The conflict gradually expanded into that the British force
combating against France, Spain, and the Netherlands, effectively created the first world war in the
contemporary history of the world (Gray Kamensky, 2013). The American Revolutionary War

Analysis Of George Orwell s Politics And The English Language
Political press can play such crucial role in the viewpoints of citizens; with an impact like this, it

Language he argues that Politicians have manipulated the English language, thus making their
points euphemistic. He explains that these that, ...it is broadly true that political writing is bad
writing and results to a politician being unconscious of what he is saying (Orwell). Even though
this essay was written in 1946, Orwell s six basic rules are still broken. For instance, Donald Trump

Orwell does not agree with this technique; he strongly emphasizes to Never use a metaphor, simile,

opinion on immigrants; however, Orwell includes the key idea that, A newly invented metaphor

technically dead (Orwell). Metaphors have been constantly twisted to aid a concept that the
speaker or writer is trying to make clear. This leads to the politician, inventing phrases for
themselves (Orwell). Another metaphor Trump presents in his speech is We re like the big bully
that keeps getting beat up (Trump). This metaphor is a key example of what Orwell would deduce
as pieces of clumsiness . Adding in metaphors can save effort, yet only benefits the speaker and not
the listener. Behind this twisted phrasing, it makes the Politician look like he is not initially
interested in what he is saying. Orwell stresses strongly, that metaphors are used to created imagery

Divine Intervention In The Odyssey
Using divine intervention details, epic similes, and descriptive epithets, Homer the author of The
Odyssey, in Book VI elaborates on the idea that the Gods hand out fortune and pain to mortals,
primarily seen through the help Odysseus received in his successful odyssey home. The power of
the Greek Gods and Goddess is limitless as their powers are supernatural and can control the fate
of mortals. Divine intervention is used by Homer to emphasize how Odysseus, without the Gods
and Goddess help, would not have made it far into his journey back home to Ithaka. An example in
The Odysseywhere divine intervention is used, was when Odysseus came by all the girls on the
Phaeacian island, and only Alkinoos daughter stood her ground, being given a bold heart by Athena
... (Homer VI. 149 151). Athena had an abound of respect for Odysseus and Odysseus needed
help from Nausicaa, who was the daughter of the king of the island Odysseus was marooned. So,
Athena used her goddess powers to make Nausikaa stay put when Odysseus came by so she
could help him. If, Athena had not planted Nausicaa into the ground, then Nausicaa might not

Researching the Asian American Culture Essay
Researching the Asian American Culture
There are fundamental differences between Eastern and Western cultures and the meeting of these
cultures has had several effects, both in Asia and here in the US. Overseas, you can see the
juxtaposition of American pop culture on the older modes of Asian thought and society. Here, New
Age religions find new excuses in Asian religions and philosophies and Anime is appears regularly
on Saturday morning cartoons. Often, this juxtaposition becomes turbulent as the younger
generations are caught between two seemingly opposing cultures. As a result, crime rates rise with
the integration of Western ideals and culture into Asian society. This is true here in America too as

This agreement deemed that the Japanese would no longer issue passports for travel to the US and

being unable to become naturalized citizens, this group now included Koreans, Filipinos, and
Indian Asians. (http://web.mit.edu/21h.153j/www/chrono.html)
In 1942, the anti Asian sentiment took a different turn. As a result of America s involvement in the
Second World War, the anti Japanese sentiment strengthened and culminated in President Franklin
D. Roosevelt s Executive Order 9066. This gave the government the power to restrict any person
from areas that the government deemed necessary for military purposes. This was almost invariably
aimed at Japanese residents and internment camps sprung up across the west coast. This included
not only first generation descendants, Issei, but second generation, Nissei, and their descendants as
well. At this time, 62% of the Japanese population in the US were American citizens by birth and
often had no connections to their ancestral home beyond their heritage. All told, 120,000 Japanese

China And Indi The World s Fastest Developing Economies...
China and India are two of the world s fastest developing economies and most populous nations on
the earth. The question is whether Chindia is a friend or a threat to the United States. Together
these nations have attributed to prosperity, but are it beneficial or harming to others?
Chindia can pose many threats to surrounding nations and competitors. China is taking dominance
as becoming the world exporter. With all of their products they are able to offer lower prices and
beating out many other industries. India is able to produce products at cheaper costs and provide
cheap labor. Their textile industry is a prime example. Many of the products needed for their
textile industry are produced in their own country so little is imported. They are able to produce
products faster because the materials are local and there is no need to wait for imports. The
products are produce cheaper because of cheap labor, and there is no need for storage costs because
very few goods are imported. When it comes to producing goods cheaper, offering lower prices to
the consumers, and becoming a world exporter, Chindia is the leader.
Together China and India attributed to prosperity and there are mutual economic benefits. Both
countries have formed stronger economic bonds. They have openly cooperated with one another in
multi lateral trade negotiations. As emerging economies continue to grow, there may be a further

that some classes share is that they are easy. The easiest class of all would be Combination

can get a lot of work accomplished in there, like doing repairs on a car belonging to a kid in the
class. There are opportunities to learn all the advanced techniques of mechanics in order to use
them in the future for fixing up cars. The third and most interesting category of electives is
electronics classes, like Photoshop and Web Design. They teach students a lot about computer

projects that involve students using creativity to make something, like a website or a picture. In

Virtual Reality Simulation Paper
The use of simulation as a tool for developing and assessing surgical competencies in different fields
of medicine has extensively been studied. By incorporating the use of virtual reality simulation
(VRS), cataract surgery training has moved from the traditional Halstedian method1 to a more
holistic method that facilitates the process of learning.2 The significant effects of using a VRS
method in the improvement of different microsurgical skills, especially in ophthalmology, have
been widely reported in the literature.3 7
These skills are particularly relevant to ophthalmic surgery which inherently requires surgeons to
use both their dominant and non dominant hands.8 Still, teaching such skills requires special

A 2002 retrospective study from Japan showed that ophthalmology trainees can successfully learn
temporal incision phacoemulsification and aspiration with both hands with little difference in
complications and outcomes.9 This study also suggested that the non dominant hand can achieve
satisfactory surgical skills by training.9 In simulated surgery however, Park and colleagues
demonstrated simulated microsurgery with the non dominant hand to be less efficient, less safe,
and slower than that with the dominant hand.8 That study however, did not document change in
performance after structured simulator training on each hand. Although virtual reality simulation
training using a specific curriculum on the EyeSi simulator has been shown to reduce the rate of
errant capsulorhexes, it has not been studied separately for dominant and non dominant hands.17
Ours is likely to be the first study documenting improved performance in non dominant hands after
structured virtual reality training, and importantly, a greater learning curve in the ND compared to
the D hand. Our results suggests that a structured VRS training for capsulorhexis results in
significantly improved outcomes in terms of overall scores, capsulorhexis shape and size, effective
use of instruments (as measured per odometer and performance times) in both dominant and non
dominant hands across all levels of expertise among participants, and that trend toward
improvement is more marked in the non dominant hand. As expected, we found that repetition (#
times the tasks is performed) of tasks improves the performance, regardless of whether you are a
trainee or attending, and regardless of whether you use your dominant or non dominant hand.
Perhaps, targeted curricula for the non dominant hand could bring the ND hand performance level
up to that of the operator s D

Homosexuality In Ancient Greek Sexuality
Many recent movies such as Troy, 300, and Alexander address many different topics like race,
gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation in diverse ways. However, the major varying
topics of the three movies is the portrayal of sexuality, which must be clarified. Homosexual contact
between males was common in ancient Greek culture. However, because of the contemporary
public distress regarding homosexuality, movies tend to keep it out of its content. It is important to
understand the similarities between each movie and the historical realities of ancient Greek
sexuality. Even more so, the significance of how modern day attitudes and beliefs have influenced
the choices made on screen regarding sexual orientation.
To begin, since the movie Troy used Homer s Iliad as its main source, the relationships in the
movie Troy were strictly heterosexual. For example, the main relationship in the movie was
between Achilles and his war prize Briseis. In the movie they fall in love and over exemplify the
emotional connection between the man and woman. In ancient Greek myth, the treatment of
Briseis is much more severe. Also, ancient Greek sources reveal that Achilles and Patroclus
sometimes were represented as lovers, although that relationship was moderated and practically
absent from both Troy and Homer s Iliad. Because many of the conservative views in America,
homosexual behavior is talked about seldom. It is safe to say that the movie tries to reflect

Susan B. Anthony As A Teacher Or Writer
Susan B. Anthony once said, I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of
man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand. Leader, dreamer, and believer
are three words that could easily be connected with Anthony. She consistently pursued and believed
that her dream of equality would someday come true, and led others away from a conflicting and
unjust society. Most people know Susan B. Anthonyas a teacher or writer, but she has done so much
more than that. Considering her many contributions to women s rights, readers can conclude that
Susan B. Anthony devoted her life to numerous associations as well as other movements. She
depicted an impact and change in her legacy as an American civil rights hero.
Born in Adams, Massachusetts, Susan Brownell Anthony became the second of eight children on
February 15, 1820 (history.com). Growing up, Susan B. Anthony learned that women were
discouraged from voicing their views (Lifer 299). Anthony developed a sense of independence as
well as moral zeal starting at an early age, which helped her realize the need for equal rights
granted to women (Encyclopedia Americana 39). In her earlier life, reformers would gather in the
family home near Rochester, New York, and this influenced her views on social betterment in
America (Encyclopedia Americana 39). Anthony had excellent education at a time when most men
were against women learning, and she began a career as a teacher (Cooper 12). As a teacher

The Ramist Logic of Edward Taylor s Upon a Spider Catching a Fly
Like other Puritanical writers of his generation, Edward Taylor looked to nature and utilized it as
an example of a belief system that he had already deemed factual. The use Ramist logic here may
seem irrational to many. The very essence of logic commands that we must first look toward nature
and then draw conclusions from it. In his work, Upon a Spider Catching a Fly , Taylor applies his
doctrine in advance by using the interaction between an arachnid and a certain contrasting insect
as an example of the Calvinist theory of predestination; the belief that one s fate cannot be
influenced by one s works or earthly deeds. It is also part of his belief system, however, that ...

Of Mice and Men-Curleys Wife Analysis
Of Mice and Men is a novel set on a ranch in the Salinas Valley in California, during the Great
Depression of the 1930s by John Steinbeck. It was the first work to bring Steinbeck s national
recognition as a writer. The book addresses the real hopes and dreams of working class America.
Steinbeck s short novel raises the lives of the poor and dispossessed to a higher, symbolic level.
The title suggests that plans of Mice and Men often go awry, a reference to Robert Burn s poem To

because of the way it mentally handicapped people, people of different races (black people) and the
way in which women were portrayed. *Of Mice and Men is... Show more content on

The Unethical Practices Of Casinos
The Unethical Practices of Casinos
When walking into The Strip in Las Vegas, an instant feel of excitement rushes up. The flashy
neon lights paired with glimpses of amazing acrobatics on gigantic screens easily brings up the
energy of tourists, businessmen, and gambling addicts. You may wonder how a once stranded
desert can transform into such a paradise of skyscrapers. The answer lies in casinos.
In the early 1930s, gambling was legalized throughout the state of Nevada and casinos began to
flourish (Dunstan, 1997). The economic growth in Nevada, especially the city of Las Vegas,
has improved tremendously by the creation of casinos. Many people were employed since the
operation of casinos requires a huge amount of labor, skill, and expertise. In addition, local retail
sales also increased from casinos when gamblers visit the stores to spend their winnings on
various items and products (Garrett, 2003). As a result, many state governments began to legalize
casinos in order to boost their economies and increase employment. As of today, there are roughly
1500 casinos in the United States and they generate almost 65 billion dollars in revenue ( Facts on
U.S Casinos 2013). However, casinos use immoral methods to achieve this incredible feat of big
profit with few government interventions. While the city of Las Vegas becomes more prosperous
than before, many citizens lose their fortunes or even lives by the immoral business practices
implemented by the casinos. Even though the

The Blessed Month Of Ramadan
The blessed month of Ramadan, the time when almost 2 billion muslims around the world are
fasting and attempting to do extra good. Fasting was obligated two years after the muslims
migrated to Medina from Mecca. In Mecca, the economic conditions for the muslims were bad,
they were being persecuted, and often would go days without food or water. It was already
difficult enough for them to find food, it wouldn t be possible for them to abstain from
something they were in extreme need off. After they migrated to Medina, it was like a
sanctuary, they were greeted open heartedly, and many were actually waiting for them to arrive.
After they settled down, the verses of ramadan were revealed. Many people may wonder why
are muslims so excited about a month in which they abstain from food? Who would look
forward to something like that? In essence there is much more to ramadan than just abstaining
from food though out the day, it is also about learning self discipline, controlling your temper,
and building your character. It teaches a great amount of patience. Our prophet once said,
Whoever does not give up lying and evil action, God is not in need of his hunger. Not only is it
about purifying your body, also your mind and soul. It is also a chance to increase your good
deeds such as giving charity to the poor, and mending family relationships. As we go through the
day in hunger and thirst, we experience the feeling of the poor who cannot afford a meal, which

A View From The Bridge Essay examples
A View From The Bridge
Whatever happened we all done it and don t you ever forget it.
The play A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller is set in New York in the 1950s. During this
period of time there were many illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe moving in to America.
This was due to the depression caused by the Second World War. The depression caused a lack of
work, many people started to migrate to America where there were many jobs. Due to the mass
immigration America started to restrict the number of people gaining citizenship and made it illegal
to house immigrants.
The story is set around Eddie Carbone, an Italian immigrant who has citizenship in America. His
character is introduced to the reader as a

She purposely antagonised him by encouraging the relationship between
Rodolfo and Catherine which Eddie disapproved of ...Go on Rodolfo dance... .She also encouraged
Catherine to stand up for herself against
Eddie. Beatrice also played a key part in Catherine s life as well.
She was the mother figure. One of her main mistakes was that she could have got Catherine to
mature faster. She also let Catherine do the jobs she was meant to. She was very gullible and she
did not sense the change in Eddie s character until it was too late. She could have sense the change
in him when he started to pick out small mistakes in
Rodolfo, trying to separate them.
Catherine also played a large part in Eddie s downfall. Even though
Eddie was another figure in her life she should have realised that he was actually her uncle. She
acted like a baby and forgets that she is a young woman ...You still walk around in front of him in
your slip ... and ... You throw yourself at him like when you was twelve years old... .
She did not act like a niece towards him and she did not give Beatrice and him space. Some times
she acted more like a wife than a niece. ... I can tell that he s hungry or wants a beer before he even

This also made Eddie feel closer to Catherine. Catherine s character was very weak. She lived most
of her life living by the rules of Eddie and she did not sand up for herself. She also did not ask

Roller Coasters-Personal Narrative
Clank, clank, clank, shooooooomp! Was the sound I heard, as I stood waiting for my friends in a
crowd of people that looked huge because I was only ten years old, I was at the front gate of Six
Flags Discovery Kingdom. I finally spotted one of my friends Bree. Bree had her hair in two long
golden french braids and black Nike shoes on. Once Bree saw me I waved and she waved back.
Then I saw JJ and Gabby, they are sisters, JJ had her short blond hair down and Gabby had her
brown hair in a ponytail. I waved to them and they both waved back. We all got in the only line
that had shade because the hot sun was beating down on us since we had all arrived. As soon as
we got in the park I smelled a warm, sweet, yummy smell. I looked around wondering... Show more

stating, If we use a locker we will have to pay quite a lot of money on something that I can do for

Bree continued, we do not want you to miss out on all the fun, so why not just pay a small
amount and have some fun with your friends and besides we won t have to worry about are
stuff. I finally ran out of lame excuses and had to tell the truth that I did not want to go and hope
they would not ask why. Once all are stuff was put in the lockers, they started to the entrance.
Finally, I blurted out, I do not want to go on the ride, they all looked at me with the expression
why on their faces. I looked at them, and confessed, I am scared to go on a roller coaster, and
especially the biggest one in the park. They all came back to where I was standing and told me
that everything was going to be fine and that nothing bad would happen to me if I went. I looked
at them, then the roller coaster, and then back at them and made my decision that I still did not
want to go. Bree looked at me and walked a little closer to

Research Paper On Vikings
Scandinavians (Vikings) had first settled in southern Scandinavia, but then they started to seek and
explore just as every other nation in history. They had started to divide into separate factions and
were loosely structured, but they still had enough in common to work together and expand. They
stretched from their southern Scandinavia to England, a bunch of really tiny islands, tips of Europes
mainland, Iceland, Greenland, and landed in Newfoundland (which they called Vinland). They had
skirted around other islands and peninsulas similar to Greenland, but didn t settle there. What is
fascinating is the fact that they had landed in North America about 5 centuries before Columbus.
They had used an early version of their most recognized longboats.... Show more content on

The ships were massive and wait for it... long. They were slim, durable, and flexible. This
allowed the ships to steer through fjords, streams, and the ocean. They only thing they lacked (of
which they added later) was a mast and sail. (Only in the 15th century did Europeans create a ship
that surpassed the longboat.) Vikings, known for their raiding and pillage, were driven to these
acts by overpopulation and poverty. A contrasting image of their big and brute reputation, they
were made up of landless sons, social outcasts, and political refugees. Their later divisions spread
even further. Their beginning expeditions were small and mostly unrecognized, but as people
started to recognize them (not collectively) they were dubbed an assortment of names and were
even hired as mercenaries by Byzantian Greeks. They remained mostly in the northern north of the
equator, but they were still expansive people considering. They fell to their expansion, assimilation,

The Fight for Bilingual Education and Women’s Rights in...
The Civil Rights movement, during the 1960s and 1970s, created many changes for both American
society and its schools. The transformations were the result of such movements as Bilingual
Education, women s rights activity, and the passing of the Public Law 94 142 legislation. The
incorporation of these new laws and ideas into society all came with their own consequences. Each
of them helped, in some way, to lessen the inequality of minority groupsin America, like students
whose primary languagewas not English, women, and handicapped children. They also faced
opposition by certain groups, who did not feel that their inclusion in American life was necessary.
Those fighting for the minorities, though, were steadfast in their... Show more content on

The third approach, bilingual education, suggested teaching the student s native language and
English equally.
According to Urban and Wagoner in American Education: A History, advocates of this last approach
sometimes emphasized biculturalism as well and bilingualism (ibid.).
These attempts were both supported and opposed by various parties.
Those who defended incorporation of bilingual education into American schools included
politicians and other Hispanic leaders, who were trying to prevent assimilation. Opposers included
teachers, Anglo politicians, and some
Hispanic intellectuals , who thought that it was important for the children to assimilate in to the
society (ibid.).
Women s rights activity also became popular in the 1960s, but did not have many large effects on
the schools. Teachers did not want to be involved with the feminists, and so the activists also
distanced themselves from the teachers. The hard work and determination of the feminists did
though, bring about the passing of the Title IX of the Higher Education Actin 1972 (ibid., 320).
This act instilled gender equality in institutions of higher education, and has played a monumental
role in regulating fairness among the sexes in colleges and universities. The Title IX

Comparing Odysseus And God In Homer s The Odyssey
In Homer s The Odyssey, Odysseus tests his servants, family, and the suitors, and in the Book of
Genesis God tests Abraham. Odysseus returns home alone and unrecognized to find his home in
disarray, unsure of who and who cannot be trusted. In the Book of Genesis, Abraham is tested to
assure he is loyal to, and trusts, the Lord. Odysseustests the loyalty of his servants and family
members, as well as the suitors, likewise, Abraham s faith is assessed by God as he commands
Abraham to sacrifice his son. The similarities between Odysseus and God, and their assessment of
others, draw further on the concept of crossing the boundary between humans and the divine; both
Odysseus and God use testing as a form of bringing justice to a world that lives without a justice
system.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

one of how strong his faith, or loyalty, in the Lord is. When Odysseus finally returns home,

man. It is in this disguise as a beggar that Odysseus is is able to go about testing the people of
Ithaca, including the swineherd, his wife and son, the suitors, and the household

Toddler Room Proposal
I have been given the responsibility of stocking the toy room of the ABC Child Care Center with
toys that are appropriate for infants and toddlers as well as preschoolers. The toys need to be safe
and washable. They also need to enhance the physical, cognitive, social and emotional growth of
children from infancy to early childhood. The following contains my proposals. The first part will
encompass recommendations for the infant and toddler room followed by recommendations for
preschoolers.
For the infants and toddler room we want to find toys that will assist in developing reflexes, and
repeating, imitating, and goal oriented schemes. Experimentation is important in this stage, so we
need to find toys that will offer up trial and error scenarios ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In my experience, their toys also bring out the emotional side. They have sounds, flashing lights,
and enticing colors. Some of their toys include the Teach Elephant, Busy Learners Activity Cube,
and Teach My Baby Learning Kit. My son loves his Sit To Stand Learning Walker which also helps
with pulling himself up to stand, push and walk. For some reason his Catch Me Kitten brings out
his anger When that toy is on he chases it down, yells at it and proceeds to knock it down.
For the preschool playroom we want to build upon and encourage more skill development and
socialization. This age group is moving away from believing they are the center of the world and
into realization of others. We want to inspire initiation collaboration with others. We want to
improve intellectual stimulation and expand upon make believe play. This can be accomplished
through sociodramatic play. We also want toys that will improve upon language skills.
Thought, judgement and involvement are key. Aside from toys listed above, other age related toys
for this group include blocks, puppets, and art materials to incite creativity and imagination.
Fantasy Forts and doll houses help with socialization as well as imagination. Puzzles and games to
promote problem solving and accomplishment. See Saws and Rocking Horses for

the bar, in which she orders him to take her home. Hanna goes back to Jacob s house initially to

about his mother. Jacob goes on to explain that she was, beautiful and smart, was cold and vain.
He then starts talking about his father and explained that he died a long time ago, but he was a

soft too sensitive, and you know he couldn t handle my mother. One can assume that Jacob s
father expressed feminine traits that are called Expressive traits, because of the emotional and
social skills that Jacob expressed how his father was when he was alive. On the other hand, Jacob

Greek Mythology Essay
Since the beginning of time the people of the world have their share of beliefs. Greek mythology
is the arguably the most popular region of study. In Ancient Greece every citizen had a patron that
would protect them and pantheism was commonplace. The Romans admired the Greeks in their
art and culture and even took different aspects of their gods. Polytheism was widely accepted in
all cultures so the seed of mythology bloomed. The time line of the creations of gods to the end of
their reign is an important factor in Greek Mythology.
Creation
The creation of the gods starts with chaos and from the chaos came the endless gods: Eros,
Tartarus, and Gaea (Love, hell, and the earth). Gaea created Uranus, the first ruler of the sky and

Being unsuccessful, he went up to the heavens to his wife who had another spiteful plan. ( Cronus )
The Fall of Cronus and the Rise of the Olympians Once Zeus was fully grown he returned to his
father s realm and with the help of his mother, hoodwinked Cronus to drink an emetic that made
him disgorge his children (Leadbetter). It was these children: Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Hera and
Demeter who helped Zeus wage the Titan war against Cronus. The women titans refused to help
Cronus defeat the Olympians and even a few male titans helped aid the Olympians. After ten years
of battles, the Olympians were able to banish the Titans into the Underworld (Titanomachy). It was
after this war that Zeus seized the throne and divided the sky, the underworld, and the sea amongst
him and his brothers. (Hades: the underworld, Poseidon: the sea, and Zeus: the sky.)
Gigantomachy
After the Olympians took rule over the world, Gaea grew upset about the order of things. It was
either because she thought that the Titians were not being treated fairly, or because she felt that
she was being appreciated. Either way, she was angered and decided that she wanted to take over.
She brought forth creations that were birthed to overthrow the Olympians: the Giants. Amongst
them were Typhoon and Echidna (Hatzitsinidou). Typhoon was said to be so tall that his head
scrapped the sky. There is some debate on what he was said to appear to be, but the most popular
reference is that he was

I Walked Out One Evening By Robert Burns
Robert Burns Oh, my love is like a red, red rose and in W. H. Auden As I Walked Out One
Evening both write about how one loves a significant other for an eternity. Both poets use time
measuring devices to show how time could hinder the couple s feelings. Burns and Auden use the
themes of love and time to show that people will fall in loveand that time will never stop. They
both show how time can affect the way that the lovers in the poems feel about one another.
In Burns poem, the speaker is newly in love, we know this because in line That s newly sprung
in June he means that his love is just blossoming. Time is an important key in this poem, the
speaker says that he will love his partner until the seas gang dry, my dear, and the rocks melt wi
the sun he is saying that he will love them until the end of time itself. Both poems use clocks as a
symbol to help achieve the meaning behind their poem. The clock in Burns poem is really an
hourglass that he says And I will love thee still, my dear, While the sands o life shall run. Burns is
saying that even until after the last grain of sand has run through the hourglass of life he will
continue to love his lover. Burns poem uses time as a continuation, as something that just flows
through, something that cannot be changed and something that is just a fact of life. Even when the
lovers are apart they vow to love each other despite time passing by without them seeing one
another. Auden s poem has three different

American Education System Analysis
The American education system is obsolete. It has not changed since the late 20th century and its
archaic ways are wasting the minds of the youth. Gone are the days when it achieved its true

people. As Botstein has stated in his essay an institution intended for children in transition now

the complete opposite, and makes teenagers closed minded to the world around them. Where did

Ultrasonography requires the use of some physics. Physics of Ultrasonography connects with
how the functioning of the ultrasound machine works. When performing an ultrasound, low
intensity, high frequency sonic waves are directed into the soft tissues of the body (Blevins et
al. 1). Many sonic waves will directed right into the soft tissue to produce an image on the
computer screen. William E. Blevins says, The sonic waves called echoes, reflecting from
tissues are heard by the transducer (Blevins et al. 1). This means the sounds of the tissue reflects
back to the transducer and then back to the computer for evaluation. Then, After interacting with
the soft tissues, a portion of the sound is reflected back toward the source of the sound (Blevins
et al. 1). Basically the ultrasound evaluates the sound waves coming from inside of the body of
the soft tissue. The sound waves travel back to the computer to produce an image on the screen.
Finally, These reflections or echoes are analyzed by a computer and a black and white image is
produced (Blevins et al. 1). When the black and white image appears back on the screen, the
Ultrasound Technician will analyze the image on the computer

However, at issue is the calculation of compensation expense for the years subsequent to the change in exercise price and vesting period. FAS 123(R) 51 states that a modification of the terms or conditions of an equity award shall be treated as an exchange of the original award for a new award. 51 further states that in substance, the entity repurchases the original instrument by issuing a new instrument of equal or greater value, incurring additional compensation expense for any incremental value. • 4. The Genetic Disorder Or Autoimmune Disease A.Who first discovered the genetic disorder or autoimmune disease? Kraepelin recognized biological causes of mental illnesses. He is believed to be the first person to seriously study mental illnesses. Kraepelin s Manic Depressive Insanity and Paranoia in 1921 detailed the difference between manic depressive and praecox, which is now known as schizophrenia. B. Is the disease state recessive or dominant? One study has also found a higher frequency in families where the disorder is inherited from mothers. A particular case inquiry may be considered, assuming that bipolar affective disorder can be inherited as a sex linked recessive trait or as an autosomal recessive trait. C. Differentiate between recessive or dominant? The difference between the two is that it depends on the parents in which one or the both have the gene that is dominant but in which chase if it is recessive it would not get passed down. D. Is it a chromosomal abnormality? Although there is compelling evidence from twin, family, and adoption studies to support strong genetic determinants for bipolar affective disorder, the underlying molecular genetic basis for this condition remains poorly understood. The identification of the genes responsible for major psychiatric illnesses such as bipolar disorder would greatly enhance our understanding of etiology, as well as open new avenues for the development of more specific and effective treatments. • 5. Nursing Shortage For The Health Care Delivery System Nursing Shortage in America In 1960, Virginia Avenel Henderson a nurse and a theorist in the same time, defined nursing, the unique function of the nurse is to assist the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery (or to a peaceful death) that he would perform unaided if he had the necessary strength, will or knowledge. And to do this in such a way as to help him gain independence as rapidly as possible . It is a noble function and to be fulfilled at the highest levels, it takes time, patience and the devotion. When the number of people given this care is much lower than that of people who must receive the care, then a crisis occurs. The phenomenon is acute not only in America but all around the world. Even if the nursing is considered a meaningful work, the country is facing a nursing shortagethat grows more with each passing year. Nursing shortages in America affect all parts of the health care delivery system. The nursing profession is a challenge. As a nurse, you must remember every day that you can both alleviate suffering patients by administering treatment prescribed by a doctor and by a good word and a smile. For a good nurse should not matter how hard the day was, how much trouble it encountered, but must remember the core values of the profession and why he/she chose this profession. Nurses play an important role in the healthcare system. This is why they have been correctly referred to as the heart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

North American Free Trade Agreement North American Free Trade Agreement The North American Free Trade Agreement is a regulation between Mexico, Canada, and the United States which eliminates most tariffs on trade among them. This agreement was implemented January 1, 1994 with the purpose to encourage economic activity among the member countries. At the time, it established the largest free trade region in the world and included the elimination of tariffs, agreements on trades in services, and a dispute settlement mechanism for trade disagreements. From 1993 2003 Canada s economy grew by 30.9% and Canada s exports to the United States expanded by 250%. But Canada did struggle to reduce high unemployment rates 9% throughout most of the 1990s. Canada did not experience a significant loss in labor jobs during this period, but the Canadian dollar was at historic low levels in relation to the US dollar, which helped to make Canadian goods competitive on the world market. NAFTA has clearly been a benefit to Canada s economy and continues to have a noticeable effect to this very day. The Mexican Peso Crisis The Mexican Peso Crisis in December 1994 was a currency crisis that was sparked by the Mexican government s devaluation of the peso against the U.S. dollar. In 1994, the government started expansionary fiscal and monetary policy in an attempt to attract more foreign investment dollars into Mexico. It used an odd form of government debt to attract investment. The government issued short term debt in the local currency, peso, but promised to repay the debt in US dollars. Basically, the government was gambling that the peso would remain strong or even strengthen against the US dollar so the government s debt would be reduced. • 7. The, Twelve Angry Men, By Reginald Rose Set in the 1950 s post depression America and written by world renowned playwright Reginald Rose, Twelve Angry Men has become a much loved classic within the drama playwright genre. With an abundance of audacious themes skillfully displayed throughout the feature length play, Rose has pushed the boundaries of the overly oppressive era from which the play was first published. The two main themes that were explored to great lengths throughout the play were prejudices and stereotypes. These themes were both highlighted through the use of three key literary devices; structure, setting and interactions of characters. Prior to act 1, character names are not listed in the structure, the characters are known only as their assigned juror numbers, this is to prevent the audience from developing prejudices of the juror, The 8th Juror gazes out the window. The 12th Juror looks at him for a moment then moves away , (pg. 4). This decision also puts the audience in a similar position to which the jurors are in; making a decision on facts provided without any bias. Act one of the play is set in America after the abolishment of slavery, yet racism was still extremely prevalent and widely accepted throughout the country. This certain prejudicial issue is highlighted in many key scenes during the play. The 10th Juror is a perfect example of how the setting affects the play and depicts the themes of prejudices and stereotypes; Brother, you can say that again. The kids who crawl outa those ... Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Elie Wiesel once said. Nazis tormented the Jews all throughout the Holocaustjust because they didn t like their race. There have been multiple movies, books, and graphic novels about the holocaust showing all the traumatic deaths, and other horrifying events that took place. The graphic novel Maus written by Art Spiegelman shows the survival story of a man named Vladek, and written by his son Artie. Vladek was a true survivor, whether it was purely luck or not, but he also cared about other people who were there with him. In the movie Schindler s List directed by Steven Spielberg this shows the story about the holocaust and how one man named Schindler saved many men, women, and families. In both stories, there are multiple motifs such as trains, lists, and death. Both stories show the same motifs in very similar ways. One way the motifs are the same is that the trains represent their journey to their own death. In Maus, there are multiple pictures of trains throughout the novel. Trains were used for transportation and ultimately to send Jewsto concentration camps. One of the most important trains was the one that the Spiegelman s were on when they thought they were going to Hungary, but they ended up being at Auschwitz. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I couldn t choose so I slaughtered both of them... They were delicious. This quote from Ron Swanson of Parks and Recreation really ties into The Most Dangerous Game . In the story The Most Dangerous Game, this man, Sanger Rainsford, had fallen off a yacht and swam to an island with a huge mansion on it. Rainsford thinks that he has been saved when General Zaroff welcomes him into his house and feeds him dinner. This brings so much suspense to the story because we have an idea of what kind of heads he is talking about, but we need that reassurance that we re right. Another part in the story that brings the readers the most suspense is when General Zaroff is talking about the new type of animal that he had invented: I wanted the ideal animal to hunt, explained the general. So I said, `What are the attributes of an ideal quarry? And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason (Page 8). • 12. Definition Of Liberation Hermeneutics tion of liberation theology. The option functions as a hermeneutical tool for interpreting reality and theological sources. It is therefore appropriate to introduce liberation hermeneutics as distinct from liberation theology within the broad arena of social scientific interest in the Bible within which several sub disciplines have taken on whole lives of their own, both in the sheer volume of literature published and in the ideological stances they represent. Theology Liberation hermeneutics Liberation theology experience DEVELOPMENT OF LIBERATION HERMENEUTICS Liberation hermeneutics developed a three part agenda. In opposition to the stated objectives of many forms of classical theology, experience takes precedence over theory. The dominant experience of a majority of people in the two thirds world, in which liberation theology emerged, is the experience of poverty suffering malnutrition, lack of access to basic human rights, education, clean water, medicine and the like. Hence first, a liberation hermeneutics begins with the experience of the injustice of poverty. Second it attempts to analyse or assess the reasons of this impoverished existence. Third, actions take precedence over rhetoric. Liberationists seek to determine a cause of corrective measures based on their previous observations, insights and judgments. In the liberation hermeneutic, the Bible does not normally come into play in step one of the three part agenda outlined above but only to aid in steps two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Height Of Colonialism Between The 18th And 20th Century During the height of colonialism between the 17th and 20th century, almost all of Asia was at one point either directly taken as a colonial possession, or was strongly influenced politically and economically by a colonial power. The exception to this was Siam (now Thailand) which has remained largely independent despite colonial pressure on all its borders (with the exception of the concession of what is now Laos and Burma). For the sake of brevity and consistency, this essay will only be dealing with events from between the early 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. During this period, the biggest threats to Siamese independence were the British to the west, and the French to the east. As seen by the map below, by 1901, British influence (indicated by the red) had extended to encompass the north and west of Siam (indicated by the bottom right green), while French influence (indicated by the blue) covered the east of Siam. As Siam was surrounded by either French or British colonies, it meant that other Western colonial powers would need to contest French or British territories before it would be able to consider colonising Siam. Figure 1 part of a larger map of Asia, World East Siam s geopolitical position would prove to be extremely beneficial, as its role as a buffer between France and Britain would allow it room to maneuver in diplomatic relations, even in the face of aggression and unfair treaties. It is vivid that one doesn t have to be in the military to suffer psychosis issues such as depression and PTSD as reflected in Ishmael, who felt these and expresses the feelings multiple times in the assigned chapters. Furthermore, I think I changed from the way I participated in the discourse to express more about how I feel and how it has impacted me rather than expressing more on what happens to Ishmael in the chapters. The British government retaliated by shutting down the Port of Boston and taking away the limited colonial self government. The Patriots responded by taking control of the provinces governments outside of Boston, the armed action that called the Suffolk Resolves. Divine Intervention In The Odyssey Using divine intervention details, epic similes, and descriptive epithets, Homer the author of The Odyssey, in Book VI elaborates on the idea that the Gods hand out fortune and pain to mortals, primarily seen through the help Odysseus received in his successful odyssey home. The power of the Greek Gods and Goddess is limitless as their powers are supernatural and can control the fate of mortals. Divine intervention is used by Homer to emphasize how Odysseus, without the Gods and Goddess help, would not have made it far into his journey back home to Ithaka. So, Athena used her goddess powers to make Nausikaa stay put when Odysseus came by so she could help him. If, Athena had not planted Nausicaa into the ground, then Nausicaa might not have ever helped Odysseus. A 2002 retrospective study from Japan showed that ophthalmology trainees can successfully learn temporal incision phacoemulsification and aspiration with both hands with little difference in complications and outcomes.9 This study also suggested that the non dominant hand can achieve satisfactory surgical skills by training.9 In simulated surgery however, Park and colleagues demonstrated simulated microsurgery with the non dominant hand to be less efficient, less safe, and slower than that with the dominant hand.8 That study however, did not document change in performance after structured simulator training on each hand. Although virtual reality simulation training using a specific curriculum on the EyeSi simulator has been shown to reduce the rate of errant capsulorhexes, it has not been studied separately for dominant and non dominant hands.17 Ours is likely to be the first study documenting improved performance in non dominant hands after structured virtual reality training, and importantly, a greater learning curve in the ND compared to the D hand. Our results suggests that a structured VRS training for capsulorhexis results in significantly improved outcomes in terms of overall scores, capsulorhexis shape and size, effective use of instruments (as measured per odometer and performance times) in both dominant and non dominant hands across all levels of expertise among participants, and that trend toward improvement is more marked in the non dominant hand. As expected, we found that repetition (# times the tasks is performed) of tasks improves the performance, regardless of whether you are a trainee or attending, and regardless of whether you use your dominant or non dominant hand. However, the major varying topics of the three movies is the portrayal of sexuality, which must be clarified. Homosexual contact between males was common in ancient Greek culture. However, because of the contemporary public distress regarding homosexuality, movies tend to keep it out of its content. It is important to understand the similarities between each movie and the historical realities of ancient Greek sexuality. Even more so, the significance of how modern day attitudes and beliefs have influenced the choices made on screen regarding sexual orientation. To begin, since the movie Troy used Homer s Iliad as its main source, the relationships in the movie Troy were strictly heterosexual. For example, the main relationship in the movie was between Achilles and his war prize Briseis. In the movie they fall in love and over exemplify the emotional connection between the man and woman. In ancient Greek myth, the treatment of Briseis is much more severe. Also, ancient Greek sources reveal that Achilles and Patroclus sometimes were represented as lovers, although that relationship was moderated and practically absent from both Troy and Homer s Iliad. The economic growth in Nevada, especially the city of Las Vegas, has improved tremendously by the creation of casinos. Many people were employed since the operation of casinos requires a huge amount of labor, skill, and expertise. In addition, local retail sales also increased from casinos when gamblers visit the stores to spend their winnings on various items and products (Garrett, 2003). As a result, many state governments began to legalize casinos in order to boost their economies and increase employment. As of today, there are roughly 1500 casinos in the United States and they generate almost 65 billion dollars in revenue ( Facts on U.S Casinos 2013). However, casinos use immoral methods to achieve this incredible feat of big profit with few government interventions. While the city of Las Vegas becomes more prosperous than before, many citizens lose their fortunes or even lives by the immoral business practices implemented by the casinos. Even though the ... Fasting was obligated two years after the muslims migrated to Medina from Mecca. In Mecca, the economic conditions for the muslims were bad, they were being persecuted, and often would go days without food or water. It was already difficult enough for them to find food, it wouldn t be possible for them to abstain from something they were in extreme need off. After they migrated to Medina, it was like a sanctuary, they were greeted open heartedly, and many were actually waiting for them to arrive. After they settled down, the verses of ramadan were revealed. Many people may wonder why are muslims so excited about a month in which they abstain from food? Who would look forward to something like that? In essence there is much more to ramadan than just abstaining from food though out the day, it is also about learning self discipline, controlling your temper, and building your character. It teaches a great amount of patience. Our prophet once said, Whoever does not give up lying and evil action, God is not in need of his hunger. Not only is it about purifying your body, also your mind and soul. It is also a chance to increase your good deeds such as giving charity to the poor, and mending family relationships. As we go through the day in hunger and thirst, we experience the feeling of the poor who cannot afford a meal, which would result ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They had started to divide into separate factions and were loosely structured, but they still had enough in common to work together and expand. They stretched from their southern Scandinavia to England, a bunch of really tiny islands, tips of Europes mainland, Iceland, Greenland, and landed in Newfoundland (which they called Vinland). They had skirted around other islands and peninsulas similar to Greenland, but didn t settle there. What is fascinating is the fact that they had landed in North America about 5 centuries before Columbus. They had used an early version of their most recognized longboats.... Vikings, known for their raiding and pillage, were driven to these acts by overpopulation and poverty. A contrasting image of their big and brute reputation, they were made up of landless sons, social outcasts, and political refugees. Their later divisions spread even further. The transformations were the result of such movements as Bilingual Education, women s rights activity, and the passing of the Public Law 94 142 legislation. The incorporation of these new laws and ideas into society all came with their own consequences. Each of them helped, in some way, to lessen the inequality of minority groupsin America, like students whose primary languagewas not English, women, and handicapped children. According to Urban and Wagoner in American Education: A History, advocates of this last approach sometimes emphasized biculturalism as well and bilingualism (ibid.). Those who defended incorporation of bilingual education into American schools included politicians and other Hispanic leaders, who were trying to prevent assimilation. Opposers included teachers, Anglo politicians, and some Hispanic intellectuals , who thought that it was important for the children to assimilate in to the society (ibid.). Women s rights activity also became popular in the 1960s, but did not have many large effects on the schools. Teachers did not want to be involved with the feminists, and so the activists also distanced themselves from the teachers. The hard work and determination of the feminists did though, bring about the passing of the Title IX of the Higher Education Actin 1972 (ibid., 320). It was these children: Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Hera and Demeter who helped Zeus wage the Titan war against Cronus. The women titans refused to help Cronus defeat the Olympians and even a few male titans helped aid the Olympians.
