Design and Development of BIM on GIS Interoperability Open Platformslhead1
ecently, Construction data has evolved from CAD to BIM and BIM becomes more important data used in various fields like facility management and 3D GIS construction, so there is an increasing need for developing technologies that can be effectively used in post-construction steps. There are lots of trials to model and service not only geographical terrain and outdoor but also indoor space. From this perspective, establishment of BIM and GIS interoperable method and development of service platform became the most important core technology. On this research, spatial data linkage model has been devised to smoothly implement the interoperability between two different kinds of data - BIM data and GIS data.
The platform basically displays BIM data based on 3D GIS such as WorldWind Java developed by NASA and Google Earth. It is also possible to interactively move in and out the buildings and also to see the outside of the building when a user is inside the building and inside of the building while a user is outside the building. Besides, the platform makes users look up the objects of buildings and properties of objects one by one, floor by floor, by similar properties, or all. Users can also edit the properties of objects and do spatial queries for analysis of the data.
This project is co research project of KICT(Korea Institute of Construction Technology) and Gaia3D and working closely together to develop BIM and GIS Interoperability Open-Platform for the integration of BIM and GIS data since 2012 and have developed the system for smooth operation of big size 3D BIM data and GIS data about plenty of buildings in areas or cities, not just one building. Now, core technologies to integrate BIM into GIS are successfully developed and we will keep improving the system step by step. KICT and Gaia3D together have designed and developed BIM and GIS interoperability open-platform based on the spatial data linkage model. Links between BIM data and GIS data enables efficient and seamless management of indoor and outdoor information at the same time and it also could be used for various services such as real estates and AR (Augmented Reality) services. Gaia3D develops 3D facility management system for Antarctic King Sejong science station to efficiently manage the facilities and publicly promote the station using BIM on GIS system with open source GIS software.

But how do you migrate to a BIM system when your current data is stored in CAD? Through a real-world international airport example, find out how CAD and engineering data can be centralized in a Document Management System (Autodesk Vault) and GIS database (SQL Server Spatial) using FME, and learn how to create BIM workflows from CAD data.
Nowadays, the digital transformation is affecting any task, activity, process that is done in any organization or even in our daily life activities. The edu-cation sector, considered as one of the leading sectors in terms of innovation through technology, is also facing a transformation in which digital technol-ogy is rapidly evolving. In this context, the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) phenomenon has gained a lot of attraction due to the capability of reaching thousands or even millions of students from all over the world. However, the activities related to MOOCs are not yet being evaluated or quantified as a driver of change. Since the creation of MOOCs requires sup-port and institutional commitment to deliver high-quality courses on tech-nology-based platforms, it seems reasonable to measure the degree of inno-vation in education through the definition of an indicator that collects the commitment of an institution or a person to this new environment of digital education. That is why, in this paper, authors present the definition of a novel indicator and several potential metrics to represent and quantify the degree of innovation in education in universities. Furthermore, a case study is conducted to evaluate 3 different metrics on 36 European universities in the context of the edX and Coursera platforms.

Through a series of examples from real-world projects at the Getty, this talk shows how user experience design can help create great products and experiences by framing the design problem, promoting understanding of your audience or users, creating insightful solutions, and building prototypes and testing them on real users. In addition, we will talk about how we promote design thinking throughout the Getty by creating a support network where design thinking methods are taught, mentored, and practiced.

Patrimonialization is a process by which a material or immaterial element becomes a constitutive part of a community’s identity that imbues said element with meaning and significance. Heritage objects have a dual nature, they are primary objects (natural or man-made) in addition to secondary objects - artifacts –, descriptions of the primary ob-ject with the aim of adding a semantic function and enriching its role as documents and testimony of natural and social facts. As documents the characteristics assigned, added, or highlighted are dependent on the natural or social relevance of the specific object, a curator's choice. A conceptual model of the patrimonialization process through which an object became a heritage object is proposed. The model emphasizes the role of the Pat-rimonialization Justification, a paradata dossier in documenting the decisions, criteria, and justifications of a curator to assign to an object the status of a heritage object and in-corporate it in a collection of a heritage institution. The model reuses classes and proper-ties of other ontologies to contextualize the patrimonialization process and the docu-ments involved, including the references that support the curator’s decision of patrimo-nialize an object and include it in a heritage collection.

AbstractThe main technical issues regarding smart city solutions are related todata gathering, aggregation, reasoning, access, and service delivering via Smart City APIs (Application Program Interfaces). Aggregated and re-conciliated data (open and private, static and real time) should be exploitable by reasoning/smart algorithms for enabling sophisticated service delivering. Different kinds of Smart City APIs enable Smart City Services and Applications, while their effectiveness depends on the architectural solutions to pass from data to services for city users and operators. To this end, a comparison of the state of the art solutions for data aggregation was performed, by putting in evidence the needs of semantic interoperable aggregated data, to provide smart services. This paper presents the work performed in the context of the Sii-Mobility national smart city project on mobility and transport integrated with services. Sii-Mobility is grounded on Km4City ontology and tools for smart city data aggregation and service production. To this end, Sii-Mobility/Km4City APIs have been compared to the state of the art solutions. Finally, the API consumption related data in the recent period are presented. Architectural design projects are characterised by a high level of complexity. This level of complexity may be attributed to the high number of constraints that apply to architectural design projects. Along with planning, energy performance and fire safety regulations, current designers have to face constraining factors related to budget, acoustics, orientation, wind turbulence, accessibility for the disabled, and so forth. It thus appears that all sorts of restrictions and regulations steer the design process implicitly and explicitly in certain directions as soon as architectural designers aim at satisfying design briefs.
In this research, we aim at analysing the impact of parameters and constraints on the design process. We wish to investigate how designers in practice deal with parameters and constraints. How do they interpret incoming parameters or constraints? Are constraints considered to be limitative (constraining), or are they key reference points in a variety of parametric possibilities? Are constraints omnipresent during the design process or are they considered only until they have been 'resolved'? To make an analysis of the role of constraints and parameters in the design process, we have studied four design sessions in a particular design use case, which will be presented briefly in this paper. In each of these design sessions, the design was not only re-evaluated, but it was also redirected in response to certain constraints that were not met (yet). In analysing these four sessions, we used linkography as a method, because this appeared to be one of the better options to obtain a more quantitative assessment of the design process. The linkography method was combined with an interview of the student design team, in order to check the correctness of our conclusions.

Conversational interaction is central to architectural design practice. New information and communication technologies (ICT) change the designer’s traditional way of communicating and interacting. In this paper we investigate how communication in the design process might be supported using ICT. With this aim, we study a text-based Skype conversation between a design teacher and a design student. We consider this conversation as part of an architectural design process and analyse it using linkography. From the linkograph analysis, specific features are identified that apply specifically to text-based Skype interactions. We conclude that online text-based Skype interaction can be one of the many possible interactions by means of communication media (sketching, conversation, modelling, and so forth) during the design process, and provides a distinct set of characteristics that might be considered by the designer.
