Citizens on Patrol
Citizens on Patrol
What would an individual do to keep their home or neighborhood safe? The answer has become
quite popular over the last few decades. In fact neighborhood prevention is becoming extremely
popular as well as successfully reducing crime in some neighborhoods. One of the major forms of
neighborhood crime prevention is citizen patrol. Citizen patrol or often referred to as citizen on
patrol is extremely popular due to the fact that it solely relies on surveillance. Furthermore, not only
do these individuals volunteer their time to simply observe, they produce dramatic results in the
process and work with law enforcement officers to stop neighborhood crime.
What is the citizen on patrol program? According to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example a neighborhood with a large number of kids would not need patrolling during after
school hours because the parents would be home. A common misconception is that citizen patrols
only watch the neighborhood. However according to National Association of Citizen Patrol many
citizen patrol control traffic at accident scenes, special events, crime scenes, fires, in addition to
focused patrols in high crime areas for deterrence.
The Citizen on Patrol program is an effective measure of crime prevention for most communities.
The name alone acts as a deterrence of crime to many. According to the Baltimore PoliceCounty
Police Department the majority of our patrols have drastically reduced crime in their
neighborhoods and eliminated the suspicious activity associated with crime, thereby enhancing the
overall quality of life in the community. One major benefit of the citizen patrol involves the cost
saving of law enforcement and communities. For example the citizen patrols are volunteers so
these individuals save tax payers and law enforcement major bucks. It is not uncommon for an
average size Citizen Patrol group of 50 members to provide a budget savings of several hundred
thousand dollars a year by performing these duties. The funds saved can then be used to put more
Officers and Deputies on the streets or purchase needed equipment. In addition to budget savings, it
is not uncommon for active Citizen

What National Monument Means The Most To Me Analysis
What National Monument Means the Most to Me? The Statue of Liberty that stands on Ellis Island
in New York is very important to me. It represents freedom, hope, the end of slavery, and many
more things. It is a very meaningful national monument that reminds us every day what it really
means to be an American citizen and be apart of this country.
This monument definitely represents freedom for me. I have come to the understanding that in
the past, we were not free. I have learned that us getting our freedom was a huge step into a better
future for our homeland. Another way this represents freedom is the fact that it represented the
end of slavery and honored Abraham Lincoln. Slavery was a very bad time for our country and
not a time that we should be proud of. The fact that Abe Lincoln and many others fought for the
end of slavery is very meaningful. Having the Statue of Liberty represents how very lucky we are ...

The New York Harbor was a major port entry for immigrants in 1892. Many immigrants coming
from across the ocean to America thought of Lady Liberty as a symbol that they were free from
poverty and sadness. They saw it as the beginning of a new life in a new country. When they saw
the statue, it gave them a lot of hope, and I find it important that the statue stands for hope in times
when we need something to remind us that we will be safe, no matter the circumstances.
During the American Revolution, France and America had a strong friendship. For that reason,
France and America came up with the idea that they would make a statue to represent America s
freedom and democracy as well as their friendship. So, they conjured up the plan that the
Americans would build the pedestal, while the French were responsible for the statue and its
assembly in America. I feel this is very important because of its representation of our friendship. It s
important to have allies and build something with so much

Important Aspects of a Free Market
Discuss some important aspects of the free enterprise system or capitalism.
Three essential principles of capitalism are: production is organized for the market, the means of
production are privately owned, and investment is privately controlled, and the people who use
those means of production to produce goods and services, that is workers, are hired on a labor
market to work in firms as employees. Capitalism is a form of market economy in which production
and investment are privately controlled, and the work of production is performed by employees,
hired from free labor markets. Capitalism is essential to the function of society due to the
opportunities that it creates and the augmentation of an individual s vitality. Individuals can ... Show

One could say, this is libertarianism, where individual freedom is the paramount social value, where
freedom is determined by your own volition. Economics is simply incentivized behavior, the issue
with this is, when money becomes the incentive, does everything else go out the window? As
we saw in the Great Recession how the sub prime loans fiasco rippled through our economy and
eventually the world. As we can see, there are positive and negative aspects of free enterprise,
yet I feel that hope and inspiration of the potential to be able to augment ones vitality is essential
in maintaining social order, keeping society efficient, and excelling forward. I want to be clear;
I do not view the United States as a free enterprise. I believe most aspect are, but when more than
half of the total output of the country is being distributed in a way that is determined by the
government, the term collectivizing or Keynesian economics is more appropriate. As Dr.
Friedman states, Everybody knows that the way to develop and to improve the lot of people is
through private markets, free enterprise and small government. We re not practicing what we
should be preaching. I ve been saying that the former communist states are trying as hard as they
can to go where we were 50 years ago; whereas we re trying as hard as we can to go where they
were 10 years ago.

William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, Hamlet, And Henry V
The Renaissance was a time in which mankind was rediscovering itself. For ages, men were simply
trying to exist, survive more than anything else. The Renaissance was a period in which men no
longer had to just get by everyday, but could begin exploring morality. No other Renaissance author
characterizes this more than William Shakespearein the early 1600s. His plays highlight the
internal moral struggle that every man goes through, the concept of what is right and what is
wrong in a world that is full of gray areas. More specifically he deals with the concept of honor and
morality in several of his plays. Julius Caesar, Hamlet, and Henry V, to a lesser extent, deal with
how men handle these and can reconcile otherwise heinous acts. Now, being well aware that
Shakespeare does not account for all the Renaissance writers, however his are the most prevalent
still today and it can be argued that Shakespeare did not work alone. For the sake of organization,
it is far easier to tackle these literary works in chronological order and analyze the individual
pieces first and then view them all as one whole. Henry V
The earliest of Shakespeare s plays was Henry V written in 1599. As a whole the play is mostly
just a retelling of the battle of Agincourt in the year 1415, featuring the now very famous, St.
Crispin s Day speech. However Shakespeare manages to capture the intensity and pure chaos of
war while also having a solid undertone about the morality of men and sending a

The Unexamined Life Of Socrates
Sanha Ryoo PHIL 127 Paper 1 02 October 2014 The Unexamined Life Through several dialogues
Plato gives readers accounts of Socrates interactions with other Athenians. While some may think
of him as a teacher of sorts, Socrates is adamant in rejecting any such claim (Plato, Apology 33a
b). He insists that he is not a teacher because he is not transferring any knowledge from himself
to others, but rather assisting those he interacts with in reaching the truth. This assistance is the
reason Socrates walks around Athens, engaging in conversation with anyone that he can
convince to converse with him. An assertion he makes at his trial in Plato s Apology is at the
center of what drives Socrates in his abnormal ways, the unexamined life is not worth living for a
human being (38a). Socrates, through aporia, looks to lead an examined life to perfect his soul
and live as the best person he can be. This paper looks to examine the unexamined life and the
implications rooted in living a life like Socrates . First, it is important to analyze what examination
entails exactly, because one must understand what something is before inspecting the why .
Jumping to the why before knowing exactly what the thing one is examining is would be
irresponsible. How can one make a judgment about something without properly comprehending
what it is? In Plato s dialogues, Socrates questions the person he is in dialogue with to show that
the person does not actually have the knowledge he claims to

Analysis Of The Large Blue Horse And The Fighting Rhino
The Large Blue Horse and the Fighting Rhino and Four Horses While visibly observing both
Fighting Rhino and Blue Horses, one can clearly see that both portraits of the content of the
imagery consists of animals, specifically Horses. Blue Horses, depicts three vividly colored blue
horses looking down in front of a landscape of rolling red hills, is characterized by its bright
primary colors and a portrayal that simplicity, and a profound sense of emotion. While, Fighting
Rhino and Horses consists of red, with a few black engraved animals. According to
Visiualartscork.com , In the deeper part, the animals are mostly black, with far fewer rock
engravings and red figures. There are groupings and features of specific animals consisting of the
usual horses, bison, aurochs, ibex, reindeer, red deer and musk oxen. Another similarity between
the two portraits is that, respectively both artists seemed to have had a certain fondness and love
for animals. Whether that is something contributed from their culture or personal interest, it also
exhibits both artists sensitivity towards nature. The two portraits also fall into the category known
as Abstract Art. However, some few differences that is presented, is that both portraits are made
from two different people of two different backgrounds, and eras. Blue Horses, made by artist
Franz Marcin 1911, while Fighting Rhino was estimated to have been created in 30,000 BC with an
unknown artist. Another difference, is that

Raised Garden Bed Essay
How to Build a Cedar Raised Garden Bed
This first step in making your raised bed can range from being easy to intensive based on how
creative you would like to be. Altering the size of the bed you would like to make and the type of
materials you can find, you may have a small, quick development or a long term attempt ahead of
you!
After dragging my feet for years about planting a garden I relented and decided to forge ahead
with not just any garden, but a raised garden at that. In the development, I realized that my
yearly excuses for not planting a vegetable garden were lame and I should have done this year s
ago, my Pepe was a passionate gardener and for if I can remember he had a wonderful garden that
we all reaped the benefits from.

Keep in mind that you can use pretty much any type of wood for this. Cedar, Pine, Juniper, or
Redwood are the preferred types of wood for raised boxes due to their resistance to the elements
and long lifespan but you can certainly use any reclaimed or recycled wood. The one type of
wood I would stay away from is pressure treated lumber as the chemicals used to treat the wood
can leach into the soil. Regular pressure treated lumber sold today has a mixture of chemicals
applied to prevent the moist soil and weather from rotting it. Even though pressure treated wood
is certified as safe for organic growing, some people have reservations about using it, and there are
numerous eco friendly alternatives. More expensive woods, such as cedar, contain natural oils
which prevent rotting and make them much more durable. They are more expensive to buy, but
they will last many more years. Choosing thicker boards can make the wood last longer. For
example, 2 inch thick locally sourced larch should last 10 years, even without treatment.
The first step in this process is to select the area of your yard to place your raised garden. You
preferably want a level area that gets plenty of sunshine. Decide on the size of your bed, which can
be any size from a simple two by two foot box for spice plants or flowers to as large as you want. I
selected an eight by eight box, which I felt was large enough to fit a variety of plants but not too

Definition Essay On Apathy
Tammy Nguyen Coach Keel English 1 5th 18 March 2016 Apathy What is the true meaning of
Apathy? Well, if one were to search the definition of apathy on google they would probably get
something like, lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. It is but it also isn t the definition of
apathy. The whole meaning behind apathy is more than just a lack of interest it s simply the
explanation of today s society. Apathy is when people have no sense of emotion towards anything,
they don t care. They absolutely have no motivation to do or think about anything. They have no
goals that they want to achieve because they have lost their sense in accomplishing things. Apathy

This is by far the closest thing as to being apathetic. Procrastinating is a great example of being
apathetic because people don t care about what they need to do and they focus more on what
they want to do. Some blow off whatever they need to do until the last minute and others just
don t do it at all! They just hurt their selves when they procrastinate, because when people
procrastinate they usually get an over amount of stress just because they didn t do it earlier
when they could have. Procrastination is a huge sign that students like to wear and show their
teachers how much they care. That s the thing, if people don t show their teacher that they care
then they will most likely not care about students grade, but if they show that they do care their
teacher will probably focus more on helping their grade. Another example of apathy is in the
election this year. America is full of apathetic legalized voters and that s really not a good thing.
They think it s a joke and that it s just hysterical. But they re so full of themselves that they don t
take the time to think about how their vote could affect some people and even if they knew it
would have a bad outcome for some, they don t care enough to stop what they re doing and actually

Dorothy Johnson s Theory Of The Behavioral System Model
The behavioral system model is a model developed by Dorothy Johnson. This theory was
influenced by Florence Nightingale s book titled notes on nursing and was developed using work of
behavioral scientists in many disciplines such as psychology, sociology, and ethnology. This theory
explains that nurse s specific contribution to patient welfare is to foster an efficient and effective
behavioral functioning in the person, before, during, and after an illness.
The theory sees a person as a system in which its parts interrelate with each other to form a whole to
perform its functions. These interrelated and interdependent parts are called subsystem which is
analyzed and described in term of structural and functional requirement. There are seven subsystems
attachment, attachment affiliation, aggressive protective, dependency, ingestive, eliminative, and
sexual with each of them interrelated with the others and its environment for three functional
requirements protection, nurturance, and stimulation. The four structural elements of the
subsystem include the following: drive (the ultimate cause of behavior), set (a tendency or
predisposition to act in a certain way), choice (behavior to use in a certain situation) and action
(behavior of an individual). These requirements must be met through a person s efforts or with the
outside assistance of the nurse to maintain the integrity of the behavioral system.
Also, the model made some assumptions for a better understanding of the

Watching Tv Essay
Imagine a world where the freedom to binge watch seven, eight, or fifteen episodes of your favorite
TV shows is nonexistent. This thought alone surely would evoke a unique terror in the hearts of
many children, teenagers, and, funnily enough, adults as well. However, with the glorious
invention of Netflix, people have been able to watch their favorite movies and televisionshows
whenever they d like, at whatever pace they d like.
Ever since Netflix was purchased in my household, I have been blessed with the opportunity to
watch each season of Friends, The Office, Gossip Girl, and One Tree Hill. And even better, I
was able to zoom through hours of episodes whenever I had a free moment to spare. Each show
was at mercy of my remote. I could command my television to play any episode I wished, from any
show that I wished, and within the next 60 seconds I would be watching it. My friends, with
Netflix we now have the freedom to be kings and queens of our television sets, an authority we
didn t even know that we needed so desperately.
There s a sense of demand surrounding our world today. When we want something, we expect to
receive it as quickly as possible, and when things don t come to us as promptly as we d like we get
angry. It s the way we ve all been inclined to feel. Although we all know the world obviously
doesn t revolve around us, it s difficult for us to act as though this fact is true. In the dark corners
of our minds we believe that our lives are more

Pricing Schemes Of The Price Of Consumer Surplus Essay
Uniform pricing does not generate the maximum possible total revenue because it generates
consumer surplus (Thomas Maurice, 2013). Consumer surplus is the area under demand and above
market price over the range of output sold in the market (Thomas Maurice, 2013). Managers devise
pricing schemes to capture consumer surplus and turn it into profit (Thomas Maurice, 2013). A
firm charges different prices for the same product to increase profits which is called price
discrimination(Thomas Maurice, 2013). There are different groups of buyers with various
elasticities of demand and are therefore willing to pay different prices. The definition of price
discrimination requires the exact same product be sold at different prices and the cost must be the
same for each market (Thomas Maurice, 2013). Under first degree price discrimination, every unit
is sold for the maximum price each consumer is willing to pay, which theoretically allows the firm
to capture the full amount of consumer surplus. However, this requires a tremendous amount of
knowledge and information about each consumer and their willingness to pay for a product
(Thomas Maurice, 2013). This can generate more profit than uniform pricingbecause of the haggle
factor . Sellers who negotiate prices for each individual customer are practicing first degree price
discrimination. If the seller knows their customer has more financial resources, they will try to get a
higher price. Second degree price discrimination

The Island had surmounted countless tropical storms, which the city survived each time but on

Themes Of The American Dream In A Raisin In The Sun
In Lorraine Hansberry s play, A Raisin in the Sun, she addresses the American dream as
obtainable if you work hard and fight for it. The three main Characters have different views of
the American dream, which is a conflict between them all. The Character Mama a new home of
her own, Beneatha wants to go to medical school and Walter Lee sees owning business his
American dream. Mama, Walter Lee and Beneatha are three strong characters in conflict, all
trying to define the American dream. In the end despite Walter losing most of the money they
must come together to ensure that all dreams of a better life does not die. Realizing that respect
and pride for self and family is the true American Dream. What happens to a dream deferred?
(Hughes) Ruth Younger says to Mama, Well, Lord knows, we ve put enough rent into this here
rat trap to pay for four houses by now... Mama looks around with a smile and sarcastically agrees.
Mama explains to Ruth about the day her and Big Walter moved in. They had only planned to
stay in the small apartment for a year. They had dreams of saving for and buying a home of their
own. Lena Younger (Mama) gives an account of the dreams that her and Big Walter had when
they where a newly married couple. She is saddened by the reality that she and Big Walter s
dreams never happen. Hansberry changes the mood to one of regret. Mama gives a gripping
account of the kind of person Big Walter was. He was a hard working, hard headed mean man
that was wild with woman. He loved his children and wanted them to do something and be
something. With his dreams never coming true and him realizing they would never come true
he had hopes that his children were the key to making all his dreams worthwhile. Seems like
God didn t see fit to give the black man nothing but dreams But he did give us children to make
then dreams seem worthwhile. Mama quoting Big Walter s view on dreams in this scene show
how important it is to Mama to buy the home that her and Big Walter wanted to buy. Does it dry
up? Like a Raisin in the Sun? (Hughes) Or fester like a sore And then run? Does it stink like rotten
meat?(Hughes) Hansberry shows the character Walter Lee as a misogynist dreamer with no real

Every living cell contains nitrogen and its abundance leads to green, succulent growth.
Phosphorous occurs in the protoplasm, with its great concentration in seeds thereby increasing their
production. Potassium influences the uptake of other elements and affects both respiration and
transpiration (Fitzpatrick, 1974). * Methodology
Kitchen wastes, composed mainly of vegetable and fruit peelings, were gathered, shredded, and
placed in garbage bags with small holes. Temperature build up inside the bags due to partial
decomposition was measured and allowed to lower down for one month until three consecutive
declining of temperature were achieved.
Three set ups measuring 15 x 8 inches were prepared and were covered with plastic. One box
contained pure carabao manure, the other box contained 70 percent carabao manure and 30 percent
processed kitchen wastes and the last box contained pure processed kitchen waste. About one
hundred pieces of Lumbricus terrestris were placed in each set up. The boxes were placed in a

set ups were checked daily and watered to keep moisture. Upon consumption of the contents of the
boxes, as evidenced by the appearance of brown granular structures, the set ups were spread on
newspapers under the sunlight. The Lumbricus terrestris were gathered. The resultant product,

EARLY ADULTHOOD: Major physical changes that occur in early adulthood include changes to
the brain and nervous system, growth spurts, sex differences, declines in physical functioning,
changes in the heart and lungs, changes in strength and speed, reproductive capacity, and immune
system functioning. Within the brain and nervous system, most functions have become localized in
specific areas of the brain, new synapses continue to form, myelinization is occurring, and old
connections are dying off (Boyd Bee, 2006). Surprisingly, recent research has suggested that some
parts of the brain produce new neurons to replace those that die (even within the brains of those in
the early adulthood stage).
The loss of physical functioning affects almost every major organ in young adulthood. More

Road King Trucks Case Analysis Essay
Abstract
This paper is an analysis of Road King Trucks new project which is introducing a new product into
its product line. I will decide whether run the project or not. Six issues will be discussed as follows
1) importance of energy cost; 2) project s cash flows; 3) cost of capital; 4) choose an engine 5)
evaluation 6) accept or reject.
We should accept the project because of the positive NPV and high IRR. We will gain $532
million in wealth which is a big money on the scale like this. The company has a bond rating of
AA that makes the risk relatively low. So we should definitely say yes.
Issues
Importance of Energy Cost
Road King Trucks, Inc. is a truck manufacturing company. The new CEO Michael Livingston

The land was accounted for opportunity cost. If we don t run the project, we can sell it and earn $6
million right now.
Cost of Capital (see table 2) I used WACC as the discount factor, we expect the rate of return to be
higher than it, the same at least. The WACC reflects the average risk and overall capital structureof
the entire firm [2]. It s the required return and it presents how much the company pays for the
capital it finances. In this case, the cost of equity is 10.33%, the cost of debt is 6.50%. I calculated
WACC using those numbers and got a result of 8.49%.
Choose an Engine (see table 3)
There are two options for engines will be installed on buses. And so are the warranties. The
decision should be made according to engines quality, effectiveness, etc. But to investors, cost is
the main factor. In this case, Detroit engine has an installation cost of $20,000 and a warranty of
$1,000 each year for 5 years; the cost of installation of Marcus engine is $2,000 less but the
warranty is $1,500 per year. To figure out the cost I calculated the NPVs of each year for 20 years.
The NPVs of the warranties for each bus are same at the year it been produced. For example, the
warranty of a Detroit engine has a NPV of $4,276 in the year it been produced. (This method is
coming from Mr. Hasse. I used to combine the warranty for each year and use those numbers in
calculation.)
The NPV of installation cost and warranty of Detroit engine is $252,154,

Cyberbullying And Youth Suicide Ideation And Attempts Essay
Methodology
The purpose of my study would be to see the correlation between cyberbullying and youth suicide
ideation and attempts. This study aimed to examine adolescents experiences with cyberbullying
because, victims of cyberbullying often report feeling frustrated, angry, and depressed (Patchin
Hinduja, 2010). Cyberbullying can have a negative impact on a youth s life and by conducting this
study we can gain a better understanding of how cyberbullying manifests itself in adolescence s
behavior, including suicidal thoughts and attempts. I would use a mixed methods approach to
examine various aspects of cyberbullying, including students involvement in cyberbullying,
reporting behaviors, and suicidal ideation or attempts. To gain more detailed information on the
effects of cyberbullying on youths suicidal ideation and attempts, I would utilize both quantitative
and qualitative data. Since cyberbullying itself is a complex issue combining both quantitative and
qualitative data can help to enhance the theory of the research.
Sampling
Participates will be students from five middle schools within the five boroughs of New York. I
will collect data from 80 students, ages 11 to 14 (40 females, 40 males). Students will be chosen
by school staff at the middle schools who expressed interested in participating in cyberbullying
studies. Once participates are chosen I (the researcher) will make the visit to the schools to conduct
the study. In the study, pupils will be told

Martin Lina Quotes From The Villain
Being called a monster. Being seemed as a troublemaker. Being alienated by his friends. Being
betrayed and hunted by his homies. Violence, hatred, revenge. There are so much things that a
sixteen year old boy could bear without turning into a gangbanger who always gets in trouble at
school for fighting with others and doesn t care about the consequences. That s Martin Luna: the
protagonist of The Fallen that is written by Paul Langan. After his little brother, Heuro, was killed in
a gun violence as a resulted in Frankie confliction with other gang, Martin Luna seeks for revenge.
It seems like nothing can stops Martin, only until he realizes that revenge is not good solution for
hatred, which is also a theme that the Paul Langan shows in the novel The Fallen by using
protagonist: Martin Luna.
First of all, Paul Langan uses protagonist, Martin, to show that revenge can t help Martin feels
better after Heuro s death. For example, on page 129, after all the torment Martin has for himself,
he decides, No matter what, my mother and I finally had answers. We d finally have peace. This
quote shows that Martin finally understands that peace has no place for hatred. ... Show more

it. That s my choice. This quote demonstrates that Heuro s death is not used to worsen Martin s
life, but rather to give he and his mom a chance to change. It s a chance to get rid of the ugly
past. It s a chance for him to reach to the sky without burden of violence. It s a chance to start a
new life with neither hatred nor fear. Overall, hatred does not cease by revenge, but only by

Pros And Cons Of The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment
In todays society, the common consensus about human experimentation is that it is unethical,
however, people in the past believed it was necessary to advance scientific discoveries. The
Tuskegee syphilis study is a prime example of how scientists in the past disregarded the ethics of
human experimentation to enhance scientific research. The study was an experiment where four
hundred to six hundred uneducated African Americanmen were tricked into being tested. Most of
the patients were injected with the disease and left without treatment to discover its effects, while
the others were safe being used as controls. This experiment lasted for Forty years and was probably
the biggest example of unethical human experimentation in America. Fortunatley, the contrivertial
actions taken in the experiment lead future generations to create the law of informed consent where
the patient understands what will happen during their treatment. The inspiration for researching this
topic was how in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks , by Rebecca Skloot, Henrietta was used for
a scientific study without her consent. In relation to Henrietta, the men in the syphilis study were
not aware of what was happening to them and were experimented on without their consent. Overall,
the human experimentation in the Tuskegee syphilis study was unethical in many ways. The first
reason behind why the Tuskegee syphilis study was unethical was because of the experiments
racism towards African Americans. In

EPA s field measurement results were similar in each of the sample locations. EPA evaluated the
MARN s sampling procedures and equipment available to perform in situ measurements. The
following observations were made: Samples collected by MARN inspectors were preserved with
ice. The refrigeration of samples is a requirement for most of the parameters, but it is the only
preservative required for total suspended solids, BOD5, and color. Other analyses require additional

the development of a health and safety protocol for sampling procedures. 4.2Fish Kill Sampling
Evaluation The National Council for Protected Areas (CONAP) was the agency responsible for
the direction of the collection of fishes after the fish kill. It is EPA s understanding based on a
discussion with members of CONAP that there is no standard procedure for the investigation of
fish kills. The method CONAP adopted in crisis was a modification of a graduate student work
on the Pasion River studying the interactions between nutria and devilfish. It is believed that gill
nets were used to collect fish specimens from the Pasion River and specimens were preserved in
formalin and sent to the University of Florida for necropsy analyses. The methods utilized to
investigate the Pasion River kill are not sufficient to be able to produce an accurate estimate of the
number of fish killed nor determine the economic valuation of the kill. Furthermore, specimens that
have been preserved in formalin may not provide sufficient evidence of the cause of death.

The World Wide Web Is Not Always Just A Click Away
Since the beginning of mankind the need to communicate with one another has served as an
essential part of existing. From the hieroglyphics painted in pyramids in Egypt, sending smoke
signals by Indians, communicating over radio, writing a letter and sending it via mail service to
present day communication via cellular phone and internet. According to the International
Telecommunication Union, by the end of 2015 nearly half of the 7.2 billion people on the planet
will have access to the internet (Internet Used by, 2015). The ability to log on to a computer and
communicate via the internet has changed the way people interact. This real time ability made the
world a much smaller place. However, this access to the World Wide Web
was not always just a
click away.
In the late 1960 s, a Department of Defense (DOD) sponsored program known as Advanced
Research Projects Agency Network (ARPAN), developed the first working prototype of the
internet (Andrews, 2013). As technology has advanced throughout history the ability of mankind
to exploit the conveniences afforded by the technology has also advanced. While the advantages
of the internet outweigh the disadvantages it would be irresponsible to overlook the negatives.
According to Andrews, (2013) by the 1990 s the internet prototype had progressed into what was
then called the World Wide Web, which is what has developed into what nearly half the world uses

Ernest Hemingway Symbolism
Ernest Hemingway uses symbolism in a lot of different ways in this book, but one of the most
distinguishable ways he uses symbolism is to try and represent women and men through
different characters in the book. Early in the book when the old man is on the boat he starts to
think about the ocean. He brings up the fact that he thinks about the ocean as la mar, which is
the feminine form of the ocean in Spanish. On page 30 he says and if she did wild or wicked
things it was because she could not help them. I feel like this could be a negative thing or a
positive thing. It could be negative in saying women are kind of evil, but it could be positive
saying that a lot of the time it is not the person s fault. In the very beginning of the book

John C Calhoun s Last Speech Summary
John C. Calhoun was not only a United States statesman, but also a nationalist and outspoken
supporter of the slave and plantation system in the pre Civil War South. In his early days as a
War Hawk and congressman, Calhoun helped to guide the United States into war with Great
Britain. He also had a hand in establishing the Second Bank of the U.S. He was in staunch
opposition to President Polk s Mexican American War and admitting California as a free state. He
was a very vocal and well known leader in the fight to have slavery as a secure institution in the
South, if not the whole United States. In the late 1820 s, Calhoun drafted an Exposition and Protest

Calhoun then warned that Southerners would feel bound by every consideration of interest and
safety to defend it (Calhoun, 1850). Calhoun clearly believes that the initial balance of power in the
country was destroyed, and the majority of power now resides in the North. At the time he wrote
this speech, the North had 20 states and 40 senators, compared to the 14 Southern states with 28
senators (Calhoun, 1850). Calhoun lays the blame of the destruction of equilibrium between the
states at the feet of the legislative government in the forms of the South being excluded from the
common territory belonging to all the states (Calhoun, 1850), and disproportional taxation on the
South and Southern imports with a large portion of proceeds going to the North. This was a
commonly held belief in the South, and many were angered by much of their revenue and wealth
going to the North in the guise of taxes and tariffs. They blamed this redistribution of money as
unfairly benefiting and adding to the wealth of the North. They saw this imbalance also as an
encouragement to immigrants to stay in the North, which also increased the wealth and population
there. Calhoun himself spoke of this, and again stated that the loss of equilibrium is to be attributed
to the action of the government (Calhoun, 1850). While

Stockholm Syndrome Theory
The Role of the Stockholm syndrome Theory in relation to attachment in Emotional Abuse:
Stockholm Syndrome is a paradoxical phenomenon that occurred on August 23, 1973 by a 32
year old career criminal Jan Erik Olsson and his partner. It occurred at the Svergis Kredit Bank,
Sweden where four employees were held hostage for 131 hours. According to Doyle (2002) it
became clear that during the siege, the hostages, despite being law abiding citizens, were more
afraid of the police than they were of their captors, and subsequently defended the robbers. In

Those that show resistance often have a strong value system or an alternative model of behaviour to
which they cling tenaciously. Similarly, children who are subjected to mistreatment at the hands of
a newly arrived step parent, or who have other positive influences, may resist and complain because
they know there are alternative forms of parental behaviour (Doyle, 2002). Strenz (1980) noted that
the Stockholm syndrome is likely to be absent when captors showed no kindness towards their

William Shakespeare s The Midsummer Night Nights Dream
There are many characters in a Midsummers Nights Dream that could stand out, as the main
character, Lysander, however is definitely one of these main characters in the play. Lysander is a
lover and is a part of the group of four that focus on their issues with love in this play. Lysander
indefinitely relates to the theme of loves difficulty and the nature of romantic love. Although
besides the themes of the play being important to understanding Lysander s character, the way he
is portrayed, via. Movie and play matter just as much. Shakespeare has a specific intention for
the portrayal of Lysander s character; there are two movie versions of this play that both have
their own portrayal of Lysander. The question that arises from these two different portrayals of
Lysander s character is; how do they relate to Shakespeare s idea of how Lysander should be
portrayed in the play? Is he portrayed correctly? Is the portrayal effective?
The dominant theme in a Midsummers Nights Dream is love, the nature of romantic love and
loves difficulty. This is a subject that Shakespeare is known for. He returns constantly to this
theme in all of his comedies. Shakespeare explores how people tend to fall in love with those who
appear beautiful to them. People that are thought to be loved at one time in our lives can later seem
not only unattractive but also repellent. For a time, this attraction to someone s beauty might

Analysis Of Omer Bartov s Hitler s Army
Omer Bartov s book Hitler s Army takes an interesting look into the social constructs of the
Wehrmacht during World War II. Bartov proposes a question of was the Wehrmacht Hitler s Army.
By that they mean did the soldiers of the Wehrmacht believe in Nazi ideology and what they were
told they were fighting for, or were they simply soldiers fighting because they were told too. Bartov
s ultimate answer is yes they are loyal to Hitler and his ideology, and he is eventually correct. After
training a generation mentally and physically from the age of ten through Hitler Youth programs
the Wehrmacht became Hitler s Army and their blind loyalty distorted their morality to carrying out
war crimes when believed to be necessary. He reaches this conclusion by analyzing the Wehrmacht s
time in Russia and how that devastating campaign effected the enlisted soldiers. He finds that the
only way the Wehrmacht s moral even survived this was their warped mentality and cohesion
between the soldiers due to harsh discipline. In chapter one Bartov tackles the issue of the
modernization and structure of the Wehrmacht. Bartov walks the reader through the unsuspected
events the Wehrmacht faced when it entered Russia. When the Wehrmacht invaded Russia their
tanks were outnumbered five to one. It was hard to understand how the Wehrmacht lost so many
men when the Wehrmacht made the French army crumble in six weeks. It seemed that everyone,

Northern Ireland s sustainable development strategies and policies are discussed next, how the
environment has been at the bottom of the investment list, and that change is coming about with
the newly proposed Sustainable Development Strategy due to come in on May 2006. The agenda
of this strategy is explained and priority areas are listed, but the paper goes on to explain that
unless all government policies are engaged, then this strategy will not work. The link between
sustainable development and health is then explained and that it doesn t make sense to have one
without the other. This link is then explained by talking about the public health strategy in
Northern Ireland which ties in with the Northern Ireland Fuel Poverty Strategy (Department of
Social Development; 2004). The two are related because the health of those who had no money for
fuel deteriorated because they had to live in cold and damp dwellings with mould on the walls.
The Author s feel that in order to promote sustainable health and development in the island of
Ireland, an integrated approach is essential which would mean that those working in Public health
organisations must work along with those from environmental health.

When you loose your money, it is gone. There is no going back. If you buy stocks and the price
fell, you can still recuperate your investments if the price later goes up. Even when the price is
still low, you can still sell your stock and recoup some of your money. Binary optionsallow you to
predict and if you go wrong, your money will never look back at you.
2. The market is not regulated. If you look at the stock market, you will see that the market is
regulated. The buyers and sellers are protected in one way or the other by an authority. Don t
expect the same thing with binary options trading. There is no regulatory body to regulate options
brokers. This will put extra risk in what you are investing in and you know what that means.
Conclusion
As you can see from the above tips, you are the sole determiner of your success or failure. In all of
the components of trading binary options, the most important factor in the equation is the trader.
Instead of leaving yourself at the mercy of chance, take responsiblity for your career and empower

The Rms Of The Titanic
The Titanic Imagine being on a ship and knowing that in just a few hours it was going to sink.
This is what the people on the RMS Titanic experienced. Although this was a major disaster, it
brought to light the importance of proper safety equipment. If the Titanic had proper safety
equipment and proper instruction on what to do in an emergency, the final death toll would be
much lower. The titanic was an enormous ship that had many amazing features to it. When the
titanic sank it devastated the world. The aftermath of the event was horrific, many people tried
to help but not everyone could be saved. The Titanic was a huge 882 foot long, 92 foot wide,
and 175 foot tall cruise ship that weighed over 46,000 tons. It belonged to White Star Lines, and
was designed by Thomas Andrews. The company Harland and Wolff built the ship. It took 3
years, and $7.5million dollars to build ($167 million today). 3,000 workers made the ship, and
each of its anchors weighed 15 tons. In May, 1911 the Titanic s hull, the largest man made
moveable object it the world, made its way to River Lagan. The Titanic was equipped with 29
boilers that burnt up to 650 tons of coal every day. The titanic was first launched on Queens
Island on April 10th 1912. There was approximately 2,200 people on board, 1,300 passengers, and
900 crew members. It had 75,000 pounds of meat, 16,850 bottles of wine and liquor, 101,000

The Role Of Ghouls And Their Effects On Society
Humans use to think they the top of the food chains, but they really weren t and never were.. It just
wasn t noticed till later in time. And, Who is above the humans? Ghouls. Creatures that lives only
off human flesh. You would think people would run and hide but they didn t. Why? Because the
ghouls lived among them. The ghouls looked like ordinary humans beings, you could tell no
difference at all until late at night in a dark alley..But some ghouls even trained themselves to be
able to eat it to a certain point without messing up their digestive system. The only people who
know how to recognize ghouls were the ghoulthemselves. My name Tohru Sohma, I am17 years
old, a freshman in college, no parents, and no tolerable family. And guess what? I m a ghoul.
Let me tell you, being a ghoul sucks. I don t embrace it at all, unlike some. And I am sure you re
thinking don t you have other ghouls that you know and can befriend? You would think that us,
ghouls, would stick together and helping each other out, but no! I mean, there are certain Wards
and ghouls that help out weaklings like me. Speaking of Wards and weaklings, I live in the 20th
Ward, and work at a coffee shop called :RE with other ghouls, and those ghouls hunted and
rationed out meat to the weaklings like me. While they hunted for the weak like me, I just served
coffee and pastries. Touka, the manager, who is also a ghoul, said I have potential to be like them
and help others and that s why she hired and me, blah

Factors Affecting The Environment Of A Watershed
Introduction: Environmental issues caused by such human activities as farming, agriculture and
infrastructural development can negatively affect the abiotic factors of the local environment. This
can disturb water equilibrium and pose implications on the biodiversity of a watershed. Various
forms of pollution, including runoff and erosion, can interfere with the health of its aquatic
habitats. The purpose of this lab report is to observe to what extent the abiotic factors of Yellow
Creek correspond with the health status of its ecosystem. This will be done by comparing the
levels of turbidity and acidity and the corresponding level of impairment to four other water streams
in the greater Toronto area.
Research Question: How can the abiotic factors of a watershed such as acidity and turbidity
indicate the health of Yellow Creek?
Background information: Abiotic factors are nonliving, physical and chemical aspects of the
environment. (Rutherford, 2015) The pH level is a quantitative measure of the hydrogen ions
representing the acidity or alkalinity of a water solution. Aquatic life prefer water that has an
acidic level of around 6.5 8.5 pH. pH levels higher than 8.5 become highly basic, while pH levels
below 6.5 become highly acidic for water quality. This does not allow the species to regulate basic
life sustaining processes, primarily the exchanges of respiratory gases and salts within the water in
which they live.

Bantu Languages And The Languages
Bantu The word Bantu which means people in many Bantu languages, refers to a group of about
five hundred African languages and to their speakers, today numbering ninety million. The Bantu
people of Sub Saharan Africa, lived about one thousand CE. They shifted from hunting and
gathering to settle agricultureabout four thousand years ago. The Bantu people traveled in to West
Africa and Southward into the present day Congo. As the Bantu people migrated evidence shows
that they absorbed most of the hunting and gathering population that originally inhabited the areas
they migrated to. The farming techniques used by the Bantu required them to move every few
years. The technique is called slash and burn. A patch of the forest is cut down and burned. They
cut down the vegetation using their machetes and billhooks, then the ashes are mixed into the soil
creating a fertile garden area. However, this process caused the land to lose its fertility quickly and
is abandoned for another plot in a new location. When they moved, the Bantu speakers shared their
skills with the people they met, adapted their methods to suit each new environment, and learned
new customs. They followed the Congo River through the rain forests. There they farmed the
riverbanks, the only place that received enough sunlight to support agriculture. As they moved
eastward into the savannas, they adapted their techniques for herding goats and sheep to raising
cattle. Passing through what is now Kenya and

Restaurants always have food that does not get used for one reason or another, and being able to
donate fresh, edible food to shelters and enabling someone who would go hungry to have a meal
would be wonderful. A second way for The Cheesecake Factory to engage in socially responsive
activities in the community would be to help raise money for a local local organization. This
could be done in many ways but, the important aspect is that the company is giving back to the
community in which it is a part. One final way that the Cheesecake Factory could engage in
socially responsive activities in the community would be to offer free meals to shelters for
specified holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is an excellent way of giving backto
the community.

Goals Of Therapy
Practically, therapy is the process of meeting with a counsellor or psychotherapist for the purpose of
resolving problematic behaviours, beliefs, feelings and related physical symptoms (Ulman, 2001).
The radical and visionary ideas of Ronald D. Laing that associated with the anti psychiatry
movement challenged the psychoanalysisestablishment, clamming that diagnosis was scientifically
meaningless (Kotowicz, 1997). Laing (1964) argues that the mad were sometimes saner than the
normal he believes that the psychotic experiences may have healing dimension, and the
psychiatrists are the actual anti psychiatryas their function has nothing to do with the healing
(Laing Cooper, 1964). Likewise, Arthur W. Comb, was a beacon for humanistic education during
the half of the 20th century, believes that the body gets well by itself, propelled by its own basic
need (Combs, 1989) (Murray, 1938). He assumes that the doctor could not cure the person, but to

Partisan Polarization Has Been An Issue For Many Americans
According to the Pew Research Center, partisan polarization has been an issue for many
Americans for a long period of time. Meaning, that those Americans are not in complete agreement
with either republican or democratic parties, their ideas, and standards. In response, the Pew
Research Center made an anonymous survey in an attempt to find and categorize people s
typology. If one were to take the quiz, their answers would create the their new typology and show
how it may correspond with either partisan parties. When I took the Pew Research Centerquiz, I
found out that I am in the Faith and Family Left typology category. I agree with my given typology
to a certain extent. Due to the limited number of answers of the quiz and the way questions were
worded, it forced me to make uncomfortable choices, which weakened my ability to agree with my
results. Although, the quiz did include all governmentissues and involvements, I think the most
prominent issue is foreign involvement, specifically, the Islamic Statein which the government will
have to become more active and continue to be involved in with the Islamic State. Faith and
Family Left does, in fact, capture the majority of how I view issues of politics and public policy. I
do believe that government support is an important role for the government to have in order to
better the country. Next, it is said that the majority of people who are Faith and Family Left oppose
same sex marriage and legalization of marijuana, in which

On the Other End of the Line
On the other end of the line was released October 31st 2008. It was directed by James Dobson
and written by Tracey Jackson. James and Tracey have been in the movie business for a long
time and they have other projects that were very successful. Tracey is known for the movie
confessions of a shopaholic. It did not receive high ratings in the US however it was released in
so many other countries such as: Singapore, Bahrain, Italy, Argentina, Netherlands Germany,
Mexico, and South Korea. The movie is a romantic comedic, chick flick . However I believe the
movie has a lot to offer in terms of culture difference, marriage, and gender between India and The
United States.
The movie stars Jesse Metcalfe as Granger and Shriya Saran as Priya, the credit card girl working at
Citi banks call center. Priya resides in Mumbai with her family and she is twenty two. She works
for City banks call center with her best friend. Her family is not very wealthy but they do work
hard. Her father sells insurance and her mother is a stay at home mom. She has a younger brother.
Her job requires her to work over night to accommodate the time difference between America and
India. This issue forces her and her family to not spend too much time as a family according to her

Visible Light Communication Essay
1.INTRODUCTION
Visible light communication (VLC) is an upcoming technique which can be used for data
communication which uses visible light. Li fi is a subset of OWC Optical wireless communication
and it can be used as a complement to RF communication (Wi Fi or cellular network).
As Lamps are the common source of room lighting, they are providing a new pathway for linking
mobiles to the Internet, with the potential for wider bandwidth and it has a quicker response time
than Wi fi. As there are differnet sources, the speed of the transmission also varies. Ordinary
lamps can transmit the signal with the speed of 10kbit/s whereas LEDs are used to get
transmission speeds upto 500Mbit/s and with the help of powerful LEDs we can achieve the speed
of 10 Gbit/s.
At the receiving side, Devices containing photodiode receive signals from light sources. In few
cases, digital camera may also be sufficient. The sensors used for receiving signals are infact an
array of photodiodes(pixels), where each one can be used as separate channel to provide multi
channel propagation.
PLC Power Line Communication is also like VLC, developed in the same era and is the method
of transmitting data on transmission lines meant for electric power distribution to comsumers. The
basic principle involved in PLC is that these can be operated by adding a carrier signal to the
existing wiring system. The propagation problem is a limiting fator for PLC s. Low Frequencies
are generally to carry data over

Did Marco Polo Go To China

Dear Editor, Everyone has been wondering if Marco Polo ever went to China. There has been
proof that he did go to China and proof that he did not. Years after Marco Polo s legendary travels,
scholars debate whether the famous explorer ever reached went further than the Black Sea, yet
China. I believe that Marco Polo did go to China because of all the evidence I have heard and
seen. Marco Polo was born in the 1200s. He was born into a family tradesmen and his education
was like a merchant s. Around the age of 15, his father left on a journey for 9 years and during
those years his mom dies. When he was 20 years old, he started his journey. He passes through a
powerful desert towards the east and was soon by the border of China. Marco was brought to the
emperor and returns home after 12 years. According to Polo, cowries, salt, gold and silver were the
main currencies in other parts of China, such as Fujian and Yunnan. The Venetian traveler s
description of salt production was also accurate and unique. Not only did he list the most important
salt production centers, but he described the methods used to make salt and detailed the value of
salt production. This and other information, the accuracy of which has not yet been fully
appreciated, indicate that Marco Polo really did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Citizens on Patrol Citizens on Patrol What would an individual do to keep their home or neighborhood safe? The answer has become quite popular over the last few decades. In fact neighborhood prevention is becoming extremely popular as well as successfully reducing crime in some neighborhoods. One of the major forms of neighborhood crime prevention is citizen patrol. Citizen patrol or often referred to as citizen on patrol is extremely popular due to the fact that it solely relies on surveillance. Furthermore, not only do these individuals volunteer their time to simply observe, they produce dramatic results in the process and work with law enforcement officers to stop neighborhood crime. What is the citizen on patrol program? According to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example a neighborhood with a large number of kids would not need patrolling during after school hours because the parents would be home. A common misconception is that citizen patrols only watch the neighborhood. However according to National Association of Citizen Patrol many citizen patrol control traffic at accident scenes, special events, crime scenes, fires, in addition to focused patrols in high crime areas for deterrence. The Citizen on Patrol program is an effective measure of crime prevention for most communities. The name alone acts as a deterrence of crime to many. According to the Baltimore PoliceCounty Police Department the majority of our patrols have drastically reduced crime in their neighborhoods and eliminated the suspicious activity associated with crime, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life in the community. One major benefit of the citizen patrol involves the cost saving of law enforcement and communities. For example the citizen patrols are volunteers so these individuals save tax payers and law enforcement major bucks. It is not uncommon for an average size Citizen Patrol group of 50 members to provide a budget savings of several hundred thousand dollars a year by performing these duties. The funds saved can then be used to put more Officers and Deputies on the streets or purchase needed equipment. In addition to budget savings, it is not uncommon for active Citizen ... • 3. What National Monument Means The Most To Me Analysis What National Monument Means the Most to Me? The Statue of Liberty that stands on Ellis Island in New York is very important to me. It represents freedom, hope, the end of slavery, and many more things. It is a very meaningful national monument that reminds us every day what it really means to be an American citizen and be apart of this country. This monument definitely represents freedom for me. I have come to the understanding that in the past, we were not free. I have learned that us getting our freedom was a huge step into a better future for our homeland. Another way this represents freedom is the fact that it represented the end of slavery and honored Abraham Lincoln. Slavery was a very bad time for our country and not a time that we should be proud of. The fact that Abe Lincoln and many others fought for the end of slavery is very meaningful. Having the Statue of Liberty represents how very lucky we are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The New York Harbor was a major port entry for immigrants in 1892. Many immigrants coming from across the ocean to America thought of Lady Liberty as a symbol that they were free from poverty and sadness. They saw it as the beginning of a new life in a new country. When they saw the statue, it gave them a lot of hope, and I find it important that the statue stands for hope in times when we need something to remind us that we will be safe, no matter the circumstances. During the American Revolution, France and America had a strong friendship. For that reason, France and America came up with the idea that they would make a statue to represent America s freedom and democracy as well as their friendship. So, they conjured up the plan that the Americans would build the pedestal, while the French were responsible for the statue and its assembly in America. I feel this is very important because of its representation of our friendship. It s important to have allies and build something with so much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Important Aspects of a Free Market Discuss some important aspects of the free enterprise system or capitalism. Three essential principles of capitalism are: production is organized for the market, the means of production are privately owned, and investment is privately controlled, and the people who use those means of production to produce goods and services, that is workers, are hired on a labor market to work in firms as employees. Capitalism is a form of market economy in which production and investment are privately controlled, and the work of production is performed by employees, hired from free labor markets. Capitalism is essential to the function of society due to the opportunities that it creates and the augmentation of an individual s vitality. Individuals can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One could say, this is libertarianism, where individual freedom is the paramount social value, where freedom is determined by your own volition. Economics is simply incentivized behavior, the issue with this is, when money becomes the incentive, does everything else go out the window? As we saw in the Great Recession how the sub prime loans fiasco rippled through our economy and eventually the world. As we can see, there are positive and negative aspects of free enterprise, yet I feel that hope and inspiration of the potential to be able to augment ones vitality is essential in maintaining social order, keeping society efficient, and excelling forward. I want to be clear; I do not view the United States as a free enterprise. I believe most aspect are, but when more than half of the total output of the country is being distributed in a way that is determined by the government, the term collectivizing or Keynesian economics is more appropriate. As Dr. Friedman states, Everybody knows that the way to develop and to improve the lot of people is through private markets, free enterprise and small government. We re not practicing what we should be preaching. I ve been saying that the former communist states are trying as hard as they can to go where we were 50 years ago; whereas we re trying as hard as we can to go where they were 10 years ago. • 6. William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, Hamlet, And Henry V The Renaissance was a time in which mankind was rediscovering itself. For ages, men were simply trying to exist, survive more than anything else. The Renaissance was a period in which men no longer had to just get by everyday, but could begin exploring morality. No other Renaissance author characterizes this more than William Shakespearein the early 1600s. His plays highlight the internal moral struggle that every man goes through, the concept of what is right and what is wrong in a world that is full of gray areas. More specifically he deals with the concept of honor and morality in several of his plays. Julius Caesar, Hamlet, and Henry V, to a lesser extent, deal with how men handle these and can reconcile otherwise heinous acts. Now, being well aware that Shakespeare does not account for all the Renaissance writers, however his are the most prevalent still today and it can be argued that Shakespeare did not work alone. For the sake of organization, it is far easier to tackle these literary works in chronological order and analyze the individual pieces first and then view them all as one whole. Henry V The earliest of Shakespeare s plays was Henry V written in 1599. As a whole the play is mostly just a retelling of the battle of Agincourt in the year 1415, featuring the now very famous, St. Crispin s Day speech. However Shakespeare manages to capture the intensity and pure chaos of war while also having a solid undertone about the morality of men and sending a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Unexamined Life Of Socrates Sanha Ryoo PHIL 127 Paper 1 02 October 2014 The Unexamined Life Through several dialogues Plato gives readers accounts of Socrates interactions with other Athenians. While some may think of him as a teacher of sorts, Socrates is adamant in rejecting any such claim (Plato, Apology 33a b). He insists that he is not a teacher because he is not transferring any knowledge from himself to others, but rather assisting those he interacts with in reaching the truth. This assistance is the reason Socrates walks around Athens, engaging in conversation with anyone that he can convince to converse with him. An assertion he makes at his trial in Plato s Apology is at the center of what drives Socrates in his abnormal ways, the unexamined life is not worth living for a human being (38a). Socrates, through aporia, looks to lead an examined life to perfect his soul and live as the best person he can be. This paper looks to examine the unexamined life and the implications rooted in living a life like Socrates . First, it is important to analyze what examination entails exactly, because one must understand what something is before inspecting the why . Jumping to the why before knowing exactly what the thing one is examining is would be irresponsible. How can one make a judgment about something without properly comprehending what it is? In Plato s dialogues, Socrates questions the person he is in dialogue with to show that the person does not actually have the knowledge he claims to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Raised Garden Bed Essay How to Build a Cedar Raised Garden Bed This first step in making your raised bed can range from being easy to intensive based on how creative you would like to be. Altering the size of the bed you would like to make and the type of materials you can find, you may have a small, quick development or a long term attempt ahead of you! After dragging my feet for years about planting a garden I relented and decided to forge ahead with not just any garden, but a raised garden at that. In the development, I realized that my yearly excuses for not planting a vegetable garden were lame and I should have done this year s ago, my Pepe was a passionate gardener and for if I can remember he had a wonderful garden that we all reaped the benefits from. If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keep in mind that you can use pretty much any type of wood for this. Cedar, Pine, Juniper, or Redwood are the preferred types of wood for raised boxes due to their resistance to the elements and long lifespan but you can certainly use any reclaimed or recycled wood. The one type of wood I would stay away from is pressure treated lumber as the chemicals used to treat the wood can leach into the soil. Regular pressure treated lumber sold today has a mixture of chemicals applied to prevent the moist soil and weather from rotting it. Even though pressure treated wood is certified as safe for organic growing, some people have reservations about using it, and there are numerous eco friendly alternatives. More expensive woods, such as cedar, contain natural oils which prevent rotting and make them much more durable. They are more expensive to buy, but they will last many more years. Choosing thicker boards can make the wood last longer. For example, 2 inch thick locally sourced larch should last 10 years, even without treatment. The first step in this process is to select the area of your yard to place your raised garden. You preferably want a level area that gets plenty of sunshine. Decide on the size of your bed, which can be any size from a simple two by two foot box for spice plants or flowers to as large as you want. I selected an eight by eight box, which I felt was large enough to fit a variety of plants but not too big to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Definition Essay On Apathy Tammy Nguyen Coach Keel English 1 5th 18 March 2016 Apathy What is the true meaning of Apathy? Well, if one were to search the definition of apathy on google they would probably get something like, lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. It is but it also isn t the definition of apathy. The whole meaning behind apathy is more than just a lack of interest it s simply the explanation of today s society. Apathy is when people have no sense of emotion towards anything, they don t care. They absolutely have no motivation to do or think about anything. They have no goals that they want to achieve because they have lost their sense in accomplishing things. Apathy has become one of the most controversial issues in today s society. It s something... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is by far the closest thing as to being apathetic. Procrastinating is a great example of being apathetic because people don t care about what they need to do and they focus more on what they want to do. Some blow off whatever they need to do until the last minute and others just don t do it at all! They just hurt their selves when they procrastinate, because when people procrastinate they usually get an over amount of stress just because they didn t do it earlier when they could have. Procrastination is a huge sign that students like to wear and show their teachers how much they care. That s the thing, if people don t show their teacher that they care then they will most likely not care about students grade, but if they show that they do care their teacher will probably focus more on helping their grade. Another example of apathy is in the election this year. America is full of apathetic legalized voters and that s really not a good thing. They think it s a joke and that it s just hysterical. But they re so full of themselves that they don t take the time to think about how their vote could affect some people and even if they knew it would have a bad outcome for some, they don t care enough to stop what they re doing and actually think about ... • 11. Dorothy Johnson s Theory Of The Behavioral System Model The behavioral system model is a model developed by Dorothy Johnson. This theory was influenced by Florence Nightingale s book titled notes on nursing and was developed using work of behavioral scientists in many disciplines such as psychology, sociology, and ethnology. This theory explains that nurse s specific contribution to patient welfare is to foster an efficient and effective behavioral functioning in the person, before, during, and after an illness. The theory sees a person as a system in which its parts interrelate with each other to form a whole to perform its functions. These interrelated and interdependent parts are called subsystem which is analyzed and described in term of structural and functional requirement. There are seven subsystems attachment, attachment affiliation, aggressive protective, dependency, ingestive, eliminative, and sexual with each of them interrelated with the others and its environment for three functional requirements protection, nurturance, and stimulation. The four structural elements of the subsystem include the following: drive (the ultimate cause of behavior), set (a tendency or predisposition to act in a certain way), choice (behavior to use in a certain situation) and action (behavior of an individual). These requirements must be met through a person s efforts or with the outside assistance of the nurse to maintain the integrity of the behavioral system. This thought alone surely would evoke a unique terror in the hearts of many children, teenagers, and, funnily enough, adults as well. However, with the glorious invention of Netflix, people have been able to watch their favorite movies and televisionshows whenever they d like, at whatever pace they d like. Ever since Netflix was purchased in my household, I have been blessed with the opportunity to watch each season of Friends, The Office, Gossip Girl, and One Tree Hill. And even better, I was able to zoom through hours of episodes whenever I had a free moment to spare. Each show was at mercy of my remote. I could command my television to play any episode I wished, from any show that I wished, and within the next 60 seconds I would be watching it. My friends, with Netflix we now have the freedom to be kings and queens of our television sets, an authority we didn t even know that we needed so desperately. There s a sense of demand surrounding our world today. When we want something, we expect to receive it as quickly as possible, and when things don t come to us as promptly as we d like we get angry. • 15. Pricing Schemes Of The Price Of Consumer Surplus Essay Uniform pricing does not generate the maximum possible total revenue because it generates consumer surplus (Thomas Maurice, 2013). Consumer surplus is the area under demand and above market price over the range of output sold in the market (Thomas Maurice, 2013). Managers devise pricing schemes to capture consumer surplus and turn it into profit (Thomas Maurice, 2013). A firm charges different prices for the same product to increase profits which is called price discrimination(Thomas Maurice, 2013). There are different groups of buyers with various elasticities of demand and are therefore willing to pay different prices. The definition of price discrimination requires the exact same product be sold at different prices and the cost must be the same for each market (Thomas Maurice, 2013). Under first degree price discrimination, every unit is sold for the maximum price each consumer is willing to pay, which theoretically allows the firm to capture the full amount of consumer surplus. However, this requires a tremendous amount of knowledge and information about each consumer and their willingness to pay for a product (Thomas Maurice, 2013). This can generate more profit than uniform pricingbecause of the haggle factor . Sellers who negotiate prices for each individual customer are practicing first degree price discrimination. If the seller knows their customer has more financial resources, they will try to get a higher price. Second degree price discrimination ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The three main Characters have different views of the American dream, which is a conflict between them all. The Character Mama a new home of her own, Beneatha wants to go to medical school and Walter Lee sees owning business his American dream. In the end despite Walter losing most of the money they must come together to ensure that all dreams of a better life does not die. Realizing that respect and pride for self and family is the true American Dream. What happens to a dream deferred? (Hughes) Ruth Younger says to Mama, Well, Lord knows, we ve put enough rent into this here rat trap to pay for four houses by now... Mama looks around with a smile and sarcastically agrees. Mama explains to Ruth about the day her and Big Walter moved in. They had only planned to stay in the small apartment for a year. They had dreams of saving for and buying a home of their own. Lena Younger (Mama) gives an account of the dreams that her and Big Walter had when they where a newly married couple. She is saddened by the reality that she and Big Walter s dreams never happen. Hansberry changes the mood to one of regret. Mama gives a gripping account of the kind of person Big Walter was. He was a hard working, hard headed mean man that was wild with woman. He loved his children and wanted them to do something and be something. With his dreams never coming true and him realizing they would never come true he had hopes that his children were the key to making all his dreams worthwhile. Seems like God didn t see fit to give the black man nothing but dreams But he did give us children to make then dreams seem worthwhile. Mama quoting Big Walter s view on dreams in this scene show how important it is to Mama to buy the home that her and Big Walter wanted to buy. Does it dry up? Like a Raisin in the Sun? There is a major difference between the studies of infancy; childhood, adolescence, and adulthood because doctors and researchers begin to investigate the loss of function, rather than the major increases of function seen in earlier years. EARLY ADULTHOOD: Major physical changes that occur in early adulthood include changes to the brain and nervous system, growth spurts, sex differences, declines in physical functioning, changes in the heart and lungs, changes in strength and speed, reproductive capacity, and immune system functioning. Within the brain and nervous system, most functions have become localized in specific areas of the brain, new synapses continue to form, myelinization is occurring, and old connections are dying off (Boyd Bee, 2006). Surprisingly, recent research has suggested that some parts of the brain produce new neurons to replace those that die (even within the brains of those in the early adulthood stage). The study was an experiment where four hundred to six hundred uneducated African Americanmen were tricked into being tested. At the time he wrote this speech, the North had 20 states and 40 senators, compared to the 14 Southern states with 28 senators (Calhoun, 1850). Calhoun lays the blame of the destruction of equilibrium between the states at the feet of the legislative government in the forms of the South being excluded from the common territory belonging to all the states (Calhoun, 1850), and disproportional taxation on the South and Southern imports with a large portion of proceeds going to the North. This was a commonly held belief in the South, and many were angered by much of their revenue and wealth going to the North in the guise of taxes and tariffs. They blamed this redistribution of money as unfairly benefiting and adding to the wealth of the North. Stockholm Syndrome Theory The Role of the Stockholm syndrome Theory in relation to attachment in Emotional Abuse: Stockholm Syndrome is a paradoxical phenomenon that occurred on August 23, 1973 by a 32 year old career criminal Jan Erik Olsson and his partner. It occurred at the Svergis Kredit Bank, Sweden where four employees were held hostage for 131 hours. According to Doyle (2002) it became clear that during the siege, the hostages, despite being law abiding citizens, were more afraid of the police than they were of their captors, and subsequently defended the robbers. Bartov proposes a question of was the Wehrmacht Hitler s Army. By that they mean did the soldiers of the Wehrmacht believe in Nazi ideology and what they were told they were fighting for, or were they simply soldiers fighting because they were told too. Bartov s ultimate answer is yes they are loyal to Hitler and his ideology, and he is eventually correct. After training a generation mentally and physically from the age of ten through Hitler Youth programs the Wehrmacht became Hitler s Army and their blind loyalty distorted their morality to carrying out war crimes when believed to be necessary. He reaches this conclusion by analyzing the Wehrmacht s time in Russia and how that devastating campaign effected the enlisted soldiers. He finds that the only way the Wehrmacht s moral even survived this was their warped mentality and cohesion between the soldiers due to harsh discipline. In chapter one Bartov tackles the issue of the modernization and structure of the Wehrmacht. Bartov walks the reader through the unsuspected events the Wehrmacht faced when it entered Russia. When the Wehrmacht invaded Russia their tanks were outnumbered five to one. It was hard to understand how the Wehrmacht lost so many men when the Wehrmacht made the French army crumble in six weeks. • 49. Factors Affecting The Environment Of A Watershed Introduction: Environmental issues caused by such human activities as farming, agriculture and infrastructural development can negatively affect the abiotic factors of the local environment. This can disturb water equilibrium and pose implications on the biodiversity of a watershed. Various forms of pollution, including runoff and erosion, can interfere with the health of its aquatic habitats. The purpose of this lab report is to observe to what extent the abiotic factors of Yellow Creek correspond with the health status of its ecosystem. This will be done by comparing the levels of turbidity and acidity and the corresponding level of impairment to four other water streams in the greater Toronto area. Research Question: How can the abiotic factors of a watershed such as acidity and turbidity indicate the health of Yellow Creek? Background information: Abiotic factors are nonliving, physical and chemical aspects of the environment. (Rutherford, 2015) The pH level is a quantitative measure of the hydrogen ions representing the acidity or alkalinity of a water solution. Aquatic life prefer water that has an acidic level of around 6.5 8.5 pH. pH levels higher than 8.5 become highly basic, while pH levels below 6.5 become highly acidic for water quality. This does not allow the species to regulate basic life sustaining processes, primarily the exchanges of respiratory gases and salts within the water in which they live. • 50. Bantu Languages And The Languages Bantu The word Bantu which means people in many Bantu languages, refers to a group of about five hundred African languages and to their speakers, today numbering ninety million. The Bantu people of Sub Saharan Africa, lived about one thousand CE. They shifted from hunting and gathering to settle agricultureabout four thousand years ago. The Bantu people traveled in to West Africa and Southward into the present day Congo. As the Bantu people migrated evidence shows that they absorbed most of the hunting and gathering population that originally inhabited the areas they migrated to. The farming techniques used by the Bantu required them to move every few years. The technique is called slash and burn. A patch of the forest is cut down and burned. They cut down the vegetation using their machetes and billhooks, then the ashes are mixed into the soil creating a fertile garden area. However, this process caused the land to lose its fertility quickly and is abandoned for another plot in a new location. When they moved, the Bantu speakers shared their skills with the people they met, adapted their methods to suit each new environment, and learned new customs. They followed the Congo River through the rain forests. There they farmed the riverbanks, the only place that received enough sunlight to support agriculture. As they moved eastward into the savannas, they adapted their techniques for herding goats and sheep to raising cattle. Passing through what is now Kenya and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Visible Light Communication Essay 1.INTRODUCTION Visible light communication (VLC) is an upcoming technique which can be used for data communication which uses visible light. Li fi is a subset of OWC Optical wireless communication and it can be used as a complement to RF communication (Wi Fi or cellular network). As Lamps are the common source of room lighting, they are providing a new pathway for linking mobiles to the Internet, with the potential for wider bandwidth and it has a quicker response time than Wi fi. As there are differnet sources, the speed of the transmission also varies. Ordinary lamps can transmit the signal with the speed of 10kbit/s whereas LEDs are used to get transmission speeds upto 500Mbit/s and with the help of powerful LEDs we can achieve the speed of 10 Gbit/s. At the receiving side, Devices containing photodiode receive signals from light sources. In few cases, digital camera may also be sufficient. The sensors used for receiving signals are infact an array of photodiodes(pixels), where each one can be used as separate channel to provide multi channel propagation. PLC Power Line Communication is also like VLC, developed in the same era and is the method of transmitting data on transmission lines meant for electric power distribution to comsumers. The basic principle involved in PLC is that these can be operated by adding a carrier signal to the existing wiring system. The propagation problem is a limiting fator for PLC s. Low Frequencies are generally to carry data over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
