William Shakespeare Legacy
To be, or not to be; that is the question. You ve probably heard this quote several times throughout
your lifetime. It was written by a well known English writer in 1599. William Shakespeare was an
honored English play writer, poet, and actor who incorporated many new words into the English
language, and now known famously for several of his poems, plays, songs, and quotes such as the one
previously stated. Shakespeare s career has left its mark on today s society; his legacy continues to
impact us today Shakespeare was born around April 23rd, 1564. There is no way for us to know his

It seems as if he knew his final months were arriving, as he went over his will and decided to leave his
fortune to his two daughters, Judith and Susanna. He also left different gifts and wealth to several of
his friends, his sister, his theatre friends, and the citizens of low income in Stratford. He passed away
on April 23rd, 1616 in his hometown. His death still remains a mystery to this day. His legacy is one
that will forever leave an impact on our world, as he left behind 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and two
narrative poems that are taught in schools everywhere today. Shakespeare is recognized as one of the
greatest playwrights in the English language which is a huge legacy to leave behind. It is not the stars

Guatemala And United States Government Systems Essay
Guatemala and United States Government Systems Government is the authority that addresses, control
and administers the institutions of a community. Every country has ruled by a governance structure.
There are different kinds of government. This comparison is about the United States and Guatemala s
forms of government.
United States system has its foundation on an agreement between the people and the government to
ensure that individual liberties continue to prosper under a free society. The Declaration of
Independence lists three important rights that the Founding Fathers considered natural and
unalienable. They are the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Government exists to protect
these rights. On other hand, the purpose of Guatemala s government, according to the Guatemala s
Constitution, is to promote the common welfare, the consolidation of the regime of legality, security,
equality, justice, liberty and peace. Both countries have its foundation on democracy; nevertheless,
there are specific characteristics that mark a difference between them.
First, United States Constitution establishes a system of government named representative democracy
. In a representative democracy or indirect democracy, the power to govern comes from the people,
who have the highest power. The government works for the people and protects their rights; this is
Popular Sovereignty . The people elect representatives to make laws. Laws made in the United States
must follow

Benefits Of Multiculturalism In Canada
Since the era of jetliners, firsts introduced in the 1950s, new interactions have resulted in a more
globalised world, which has increased relationship between the many countries and cultures. The
relationship between the countries makes cultural diversity even more important for Canada and
Ontario. Multiculturalism has some opponent; however, the positive benefits for Canada and Ontario
are economic and cultural.
Opponent of multiculturalism argues that the policies promote the divisiveness of Canada and are
taking over land that should be available to all Canadians. The former Minister for Multiculturalism
and Citizenship states that opponent of multiculturalism makes immigrant hyphenated Canadian
instead of Canadian (Weiner, 1991). This happened when the Hindu community tried to build a
waterfront cemetery in the GTA. Finding a city willing to support the project was complicated and
they scouted as far as Niagara. They had little luck, until the Mayor of Pickering agreed to have it built
in a Pickering park, this luck dried up since Pickering council didn t give ... Show more content on

Contrary to the claim of the opponent that multiculturalism seeks to create hyphenated Canadian,
multiculturalism seeks the opposite, according to a former cabinet minister: it does so not to keep
Canadians apart from one another; it does so because a rich and broad cultural heritage is something in
which all Canadians share, individually and collectively [...] . (Weiner, 1991) Cultural diversity does
not weaken Canadian nor does it divide Canadian. Cultural diversity has benefited since industrial
lands have changed to be more welcoming. The construction of Pearson Airport has led to major
industrial development in Etobicoke, which changed with the Hindu temple, the only non industrial
building in that neighborhood. (Lista, p. 67) Canada has become more culturally diverse since the
introduction of new cultures and cultural

Amnesty And Illegal Immigration Argumentative Analysis
Amnesty and Illegal Immigration
There has been debate regarding whether it was right for the Obama administration to allow amnesty
for illegal immigrants or not. Various researchers and scholars have voiced their opinion regarding this
subject, with some supporting the government decision. Many, however, have opined differently and
are against this decision. This treatise will carry out an argumentative analysis that will justify how the
pitfalls of amnesty surpass the benefits from the same. In order to gain understanding on this subject,
it is critical to highlight that the Obama administration had permitted some illegal immigrants into the
country, prior to this act of amnesty. In 2012, Obama was at the forefront in protecting the illegal ...

Further, he believes that amnesty as a law, with knowledge of illegal immigration, acts to award the
illegals while disrespecting loyal and law abiding American citizens. It is also unfair morally because
it undermines the opinions and rights of millions of legal immigrants who have abided by the rules
and followed America s legal framework to become citizens. There are many legal immigrants who
have taken the time, often elongated and spanning years, to conform to the established laws regarding
immigration. Offering amnesty to the illegals is unfair, but also, the ultimate betrayal to those legal
immigrants. Another factor that amnesty affects is crime at the United States borders. Curbing the
crime rate at our borders has been made more difficult. The border patrol officers have to deal with a
large number of illegal immigrants which not only complicates their security activities, but also makes
it difficult for them to track criminals that may pose as immigrants. This will consequently increase
the cost of deterring crime in the country, as well as, reduce the effectiveness of our police officers.
Safety, for citizens alone, being affected makes amnesty

Politically we are confronted with a host of issues ranging from matters pertaining to local taxation,
planning, and zoning to regional (if not global) terrorism and other manifestations of conflict. The
study of geography allows us to participate and enjoy our planet. Geography gives us a sense of
reference to where we live and where we may be going in relationship to where we have been. Its
appreciation of the world we live in. Anthropology is the study of human kind and culture, everybody
wants to know where and how humans came to be. Some examples we can apply anthropology in our

in understanding and communicating with teens,, and in proposing new ideas, and plans. Its unique

Sociology is the study of the behavior of people and groups within society. This helps out how society

Art Comparing
Artists that concentrated on the Baroque style of painting had an uncanny ability to display their style
more so than the artists of the Renaissance era. In respect to their different approach towards shape,
room, and work of art, the differences in their styles resulted in dissimilar descriptions. Renaissance
and Baroque seem to concentrate towards the treatment of space, appearance, and color. This
uniqueness affects the description of a painting and therefore it cannot be seen. More so, than in
comparing Perugino s Christ delivering the Keys of the Kingdom to St. Peter from the Early
Renaissance to Caravaggio s exchange of St. Paul from the Baroque style. Perugino was considered
one of the best when we talk about the Early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Baroque style, used by Caravaggio, was the absolute opposite of any Renaissance painter that had
lived before him and because of this; it was probably the reason why he became the most radical artist
of his time. He deserted the rules that had guided a century of artists before him and because of his
theatrical break in style from the Italian Renaissance; he carefully brings a completely distinct
treatment of narrative. Caravaggio s action of form in his Conversion of St. Paul is extraordinarily
different from Perugino s work of art. One of the choices he decided to use was instead of outlining
Paul and his horse with lines, Caravaggio abandons this unique style and adds movement by using a
painterly style in which he uses paint to create an image and not rigid outlines. He uses color and
value to produce a unique form, causing a sense of movement in the figures. They are not locked in
time like Perugino s figures and express the exact opposite message of classical, passive figures.
These are strong, vibrant, and emotional figures. Perhaps the emotional aspect of the figures is created
by Caravaggio s introduction of dramatic light and dark effects, termed tenebrism. This technique was
a great breakthrough in art, which added great emotional effects and mystery to the art. Caravaggio
doesn t light Paul with a clear even light like Perugino

ASPCAAdvertisement Analysis
Many ASPCA advertisements use a combination of different appeals to recruit people, specifically pet
owners, to donate to their important cause, which is saving and rescuing endangered, neglected, and
abused animals. The many different strategies that the ASPCA advertisements use are ethos, pathos,
logos, warm colors, a scene of a loving environment, images of animals in pain and hurting, and a
reward if their target audience does decide to help their cause. I think that this is an effective
advertisement due to all of the strategies that they do use. In this commercial it starts of with a sad
song performed by Sarah McLachlan, and a fact that every hour an animal is beaten or abused . This is
a very good attention getter using the appeal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because people will imagine that happening to their own loving pet and it pulls on their
heartstrings to help. People do not want to see animals, which are pets hurting like they are in this
commercial. They fear for these animals and want them to feel that love that they give to their own
animal. They use three different but major appeals in this as well, the first being logos. The
advertisement tells us that an animal is abused every hour. They used this so we could put it into
perspective just how often it happens. The next appeal they had used is ethos because they used
someone who is famous to help build the credibility of ASPCA. If it is someone we know, we as
humans are more likely to listen to what they have to say. The last major appeal they used was pathos.
Pathos was used in many forms in this commercial from the song that was used, to the pictures that
scrolled across our screen, to the fact that no pet owner want to see a pet hurting and in pain as the
pictures showed. The words the Sarah said as well played into the appeal of pathos, by saying these
animals NEED your help . This appeal is the one that is suppose to pull on ones emotions and it does
just that in this

Sigmund Freud s Representation of Three Tall Women Essay
A Deeper Understanding of Three Tall Women
According to Sigmund Freud, psychoanalysis is a procedure for the investigation of mental processes
which are almost inaccessible in any other way (Fodor and Gaynor 147). It becomes a deeper contrast
of a person s mentality to consider the design of interplay within the urging and checking forces of the
conscious and unconscious (Fodor and Gaynor 147). Freud s representation of Three Tall Women,
relate the characters by the neuroses that sometimes result from the suppression of memories and
desires too painful to deal with (Freud, The Dependent Relationship of the Ego). While not completely
opposing religion as a factor in the conscious and unconscious, Freud does claim that ... Show more

The play expresses the idea of virtue and C s hope of avoiding the fate of A, which in turn shows that
there exists a strong desire to maintain a life that consists in pleasing an authoritative figure or higher
power (such as God). It may be discovered, with the help of the analytical mind of Carl Jung, that the
study of religious experience [can] be regarded...as the study of the fundamental, natural and
therapeutic psychic process, in which the individual seeks self knowledge, self regulation, and self
fulfillment (Palmer 109). Freud teaches us his idea of the ego, superego, and the id. The ego consists
of the conscious thought, which is understood as the cartoon character [that] has a devil on one
shoulder and an angel on the other (Freud, The Dependent Relationship of the Ego). Literally
speaking, character A was faced with the battle between devil and angel, good and evil, and it is the
branches of herself in B and C that such a contrast is shown.
Character C is the object of the angel and represented by innocence, the character traits of a child,
because she is the little one, the character with the least amount of experience in the world (Albee 39).
While Freud may claim that this character represents the id in that she takes the majority of her
influence from the unconscious part of her mind that says what she wants, Jung looks at the character
with the idea of an archetypal self. Based on Jung s study, archetypes

California Government Structure Essay
Structure of California s Government
Headed by the governor of the state, the state govt. of CA replicates the Federal govt. It has three
branches that perform their assigned tasks and keep within the limits set by the constitution. These
branches are:
Legislature
Executive
Judiciary
While this division has been created to give structure to the government and ensure its smooth and
effective functioning, there is, more importantly, the need to keep the power of the branches in check
and to make them accountable to each other. There is a system of checks and balances that comes into
play with this segregation of duties and separation of power. This system s inception has been
attributed to Montesquieu. (Wikipedia.org)

Governor s Budget Power: 3
Governor s Veto Power: 5
Governor s Institutional Power: 3.2 (3.4 in 2000)
The Governor Rating in the year 2000 placed CA s governor at an overall rating of 3.4 and a rank of
29 among the nation.
What is interesting to note is the rating given to Power of the Legislature to Change Governor s
Budget which was 1 on a 1 5 scale in a study conducted by Dr.Thad Beyle. This shows the CA
governor as wielding a certain amount of influence in the legislature s passing of his proposed budget,
Of course, the constitution mandates that the budget be balanced and, if not, then the previous year s
budget remain effective. This already puts limitations and expectations in the budget s formulation.
Executive Order
Another form of legislation is an executive order. Executive orders as issued by state governors are not
laws, but do have the same binding nature.

1991. In « Illuminating the black box: a randomization approach for understanding variable

The BM ratio allows us to categorize companies into either a growth (low BM ratio) or a value (high
BM ratio) profile and past empirical studies (see Fama and French) suggest that portfolios formed
over value companies tend to out perform portfolios formed over growth companies over time. We
don t know the influence direction of the variable (given the PCA black box transformation and
Garson s output) but we can formulate hypotheses on the fact that value companies tend to beat the
market more often than growth companies. Dividend yield and EVtoEBITDA that are our 2nd and 3rd
most relevant variables for Neural Nework output also support this previous fact high dividend yield
paying companies characterize generally value companies, while the EVtoEBITDA ratio characterize
the relative price of a company since it returns how many times an investor is willing to buy the
EBITDA (Earnings before interests, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of a company when he
purchases a share of the company. An investor that invests in high EVtoEBITDA companies has
generally good growth prospects views regarding the recurrent earnings of the company. Finally, the

Free Will In Euripide s Phaedra
When Phaedra and the man do try to resolve their problems, they each put their fates yet again into the
hands of others rather than take control of their situations, revealing how when outside forces threaten
the autonomy of a person that one cannot simply expect others to fix the problems on one s behalf.
Phaedra s initial entrance in the play begins with her commanding her nurses to take this veil, a
symbol of modesty, from [her] head (Euripides 223), reflecting Phaedra s inability to take control of
her life. Even in a mad state in which she loses her inhibitions and is willing to shed her humility, she
cannot do so herself but rather depends on others to do it for her. This further reveals how Phaedra has

Phaedra dies in a very similar fashion. Although Phaedra takes her own life and writes a letter framing
Hippolytus for rape, she still puts her reputation at the mercy of both Hippolytus and the nurses
because her fate depends on their ability to uphold their vows of silence. With her reputation in the
hands of others, Phaedra mimics the man as she yet again puts herself at the mercy of outside forces
instead of seizing control and attacking her problem head on. Some may contend that the suicide
reflects her attempts of regaining autonomy but the suicide doesn t truly solve the problem, it only
ends it. The same could be said for the man dying of old age as he waits for entrance to the Law. The
man s problem is that he can t enter the gate but when he s dead that problem disappears but he hasn t
achieved his goal of reaching the Law. While Phaedra s suicide brings an end to her suffering, it does
not address the reasons she s been forced to love Hippolytus. In both these examples, the characters
end up dying because they not only failed to actually address their problems but also because they

Essay About Seaworld Train The Killer Whale And Dolphins
Future Me Rough Draft
Don t lie, you wonder how the people at SeaWorld train the killer whale and dolphins. Well, I can tell

what I started as, what I d hoped I would be, or even what I wanted to be going through college. It just

trainer. I wanted to be a biological oceanographer, big name, I know. I had this dream growing up that
I could be best friends with a killer whale, which basically, I had. Not the one in my dream, though.
Her name was Lorelei, and she could talk to me like a human could, only better. I told her all my
secrets, my goals in life that I would work so hard to achieve, but obviously having a whale as a best
friend didn t turn out. I was in love with the Free Willy movies, and I thought Jesse was cute, so I kept
watching, and before I knew it I wanted some sort of job that had to do with orcas. I didn t just

The Incarceration Of The United States
Overview
The United States has the highest prison population in the world, with over two million incarcerated
(World Prison Brief, 2016), of whom many are juveniles. It is well documented that youths who enter
this system are more likely to suffer a host of negative health and lifestyle outcomes, such as
alcohol/drug abuse, high school dropout, and mental health problems. Such phenomena occur in stark
contrast with the aims of the US juvenile justice system, which supposedly intends to help offending
youths re assimilate back into society as productive citizens. As previously mentioned, incarceration
often leads to poor mental health, which when combined with the conditions of confinement
significantly raises the rates of suicide and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adolescents sentenced within the US juvenile justice system have especially high rates of recidivism
(when compared with their adult counterparts), with male juveniles incarcerated at a rate five times
higher than females (Sickmund et al., 2015). African Americans are an especially vulnerable
demographic within this group. In numbers similar to the adult incarcerated population, youths of
color are found in disproportionate numbers in every step of the US juvenile justice system, with
African American youths confined at nearly five times the rate of their white peers (The Annie E.
Casey Foundation, 2013). Additionally, number of prior offences is an important factor, as first time
offenders are much less likely to re offend than those with previous offences (Harrison et al., 2001).
Gang related activity and offenses were avoided for the purpose of this study, as gang affiliation has
an effect on the juveniles responses to the positive peer pressure of Teen Court programs. It is
important to note, however, that for juveniles, previous incarceration acts as an even greater risk factor
for future incarceration than gang membership (Holman Ziedenberg, 2006). It is important to note that
only participants who completed the program were included in the analysis. Research shows that of
those who participate in Teen Court programs, those who complete their sentence are significantly

Comparing Candide And The Pursuit Of Happyness
The book and film that I have decided to compare are Candide written by Voltaire and The Pursuit of
Happyness, whose screenplay was done by Steven Conrad. The main characters in both The Pursuit of
Happyness and Candide have a very optimistic view of the world and are searching for their own ideas
of true happiness but they both go about it in two very different ways. By the end of the book and film
each character learns what it takes for them to reach their own version of the pursuit of happiness.
Although each character finds happiness in their own way their main goals of finding out how to live a
truly happy life are the same. In Candide and the Pursuit of Happyness, the main characters, Candide

he believes that that s what s going to make him happy, The first day of their journey was rather
pleasant. They were heartened by the thought that they now possessed more treasure than all of Asia,
Europe and Africa could assemble (Voltaire Pg.67). Candide thinks that if he has lots of money then
somehow his life will be so much better altogether, but Candide realizes that money is something that
can go away just as fast as it came. Just because money can buy you a lot of things its not going to
necessarily make your life a happier one. Money is something that can bring you joy but it isn t going
to bring your true happiness. Joy is one of those things that s there for a little bit but it can be taken

Jack Hunting Epilogue
Jack looked down at the picture of the man, and the man looked back at him from the photograph.

Best shooter of his division. Top grades in every test. Off the charts in every single conceivable aspect

Jack looked up from the file to the tired eyes of the Lieutenant across the table. Yes , he said. I ve
heard of him.
Everyone s heard of Hunt , Winters continued. The man has a statue of himself in front of the God

Jack again looked down at Hunt s picture. He s... He s alive?
He noticed a stamp, right by the United States Army, one he hadn t noticed before.
He s very much alive, Jack. And he s going to play a decisive role in this war, is my guess.
Jack looked up at Lieutenant Winters. General Hunt is going to lead humanity to war?
The stamp on the file, by the US Army Stamp, it was a NASA stamp.
Winters shook his head. No, Jack. He s not going to lead humanity.

From the transparent glass wall on the front of the main battleship, General Hunt piped away white,
thick smoke from a Cuban cigar, watching the pale blue dot that was once his home slowly growing
bigger.
General, we need you in the control room, something about the plan of attack.
Hunt turned back to look at the translucent, thin figure by the door. He nodded slightly.
I ll be right there , he said, taking another puff of the cigar. He turned his gaze back to the glass again,
and the Chryssalid excused himself.
Out of the window, Earth stared back at General Hunt, as indifferent to him as he was to it

Sports Drink Research Paper
Today, sports drinks are very popular. Kids drink them all too much. Everyday, you see someone with
Gatorade in their hand. I would only want a sports drink in my diet when I am sick and losing
electrolytes. Besides that, I would never have a sports drink in my hand. Sports drinks are just like
soda, full of calories and no good for you!
I would only want a sports drink in my body when it is crucial to my health. In source a, I observed
that a sports drink replaces electrolytes. When you are sick and vomiting, you become dehydrated.
This means you lose electrolytes which are necessary to a healthy body. This would be the only time I
drink a sports drink. In source b, it states, On the contrary, clean, filtrated water is the best drink with

Analysis of The Decline of the West
The subject of capitalism is one very thoroughly discussed, and opinions are wide spread. Some
believe it to be the root of all evil, while others merely choose to see it as an inevitable part of
progress, one we might as well enjoy. After all, has living not become much easier since, say, the
beginning of the industrialised age? Everyone can afford materialistic goods and no one is forced to
starve. The question is, however, whether it is too good to be true, and recently, with the deep financial
crises, many have come to face the fact that everything, even capitalism itself, comes with a price.
Mike, a hardworking father of two, and the main character of Hanif Kureishi s short story The Decline
of the West from 2010, is an example of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The title reflects this as well. By The Decline of the West he refers not to the economy or the financial
crash, but to the emotional decline of individuals and the way family is becoming secondary to money
and the next piece of technology. As the author is the son of a Pakistani father, this observation and
focus on the lessening importance with which family relations are viewed, is not surprising; in
Pakistan and many other Middle Eastern countries, family is of much importance, and to be close knit
is considered not only normal, but expected. It would be only natural if Hanif Kureishi has been
influenced by his father, and the short story is without a doubt marked by this heritage as

The Atomic Bomb Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki
The Atomic Bomb
After World War I, no one, not even the Head of Chemical Warfare, suspected such a weapon would
be dropped on civilians in the near future. Prior to the development of the atomic bomb in World War
II, gas bombing and incendiary bombing were prevalent (Rotter 5). The race to create nuclear
weapons and the excitement of succeeding technologically is thought to have distorted the morality of
those who decided to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These atomic bombings are plausibly the first
and last of their kind, as increasing nuclear programs in countries worldwide promise mutually
assured destruction to countries associated in such an ordeal. In the future, all countries involved in a
war will need to tread carefully, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ironically, approximately twenty years later, the United States of America was blamed for doing just
that. Arguably, the entire Atomic Bomb situation began on August 2, 1939, when President Franklin
D. Roosevelt received a letter revealing by purifying uranium 235 one had the potential to create a
bomb. It also revealed the efforts in Nazi Germany to create a bomb (Bellis 1). In response to this
letter, a secret government project called the Manhattan Project , began (Bellis 1).
The Manhattan Project was top secret at the time, and served the purpose of creating and testing an
atomic bomb(Bellis 1). Between 1939 and 1945 over two billion dollars were given to the Manhattan
Project (Bellis 1). The scientists burdened with inventing such a bomb mostly originated from the
University of Chicago (Bellis 1). To create an atomic bomb, a specific amount of enriched uranium
must be used, to create a chain reaction (Bellis 1). The group of scientists, headed by Enrico Fermi
and J. Robert Oppenheimer, created a pile of forty five metric tons of natural uranium embedded in
solid graphite (Bellis 1). Although the reaction was slowed because the uranium 235 was not
extracted, it was considered successful (Bellis 1). The next step was to extract the uranium 235, and
create a real bomb (Bellis 1). The way to go about this creation was difficult. The ratio of uranium to
uranium ore is five hundred to one. The one part in that ratio is ninety nine

Cultural Expectations Of Date Women
When a male and female go out for a date night it is expected that the male take on all responsibilities.
The male is supposed to open doors, pull out dinner chairs, pay the dinner tab, as well as pay for other
places the date may consist of, and more. Basically, on a date women are supposed to be pampered
while the men do absolutely everything. Why? Because this is a cultural expectation that started years
ago and we have hung on to it. I think other people would find it odd or abnormal to have the roles
reversed and the female do what the man usually would. The breaching exercise I experimented with
was taking on the role of a male during a date night.

with only one explanation: Naturally I concluded somebody was playing a joke on us, and told my
assistant to label the body as persons unknown . This would mean he could be cremated by authorities
and the death filed as that of an unknown male in his late 60s to early 70s. But it was then that things

Public Green Spaces At The Mouth Of Mill Creek
[Introduction]
Cincinnati s riverfront is misused and neglected. Once the backbone of the city s economic activity,
much of it now lies vacant and abandoned. Scarred by the derelict remains of its industrial past and cut
off from the city by roads and railways, these sites are largely forgotten by the public and show little
signs of their untapped potential.
The landscape is in clear need of repair.
In some other locations, sections of the waterfront have been converted into riverfront parks. While
such public green spaces are an important factor in the success of a city, we should not be content with
merely building a standard park. Cities should use the elements given to them in their landscape to
create placemaking spaces unique to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality, there is no evidence of residential or recreational activities taking place in the area. In some
places the riverfront was used as a construction material dump site, with evidence of the waste being
burned on site.
Non commercial use is hampered by a lack of accessible and legal ways into the site. The site is
currently almost completely blocked off by railroads and raised roadways, with the exception of a
private road entrance on the east end, making trespassing required to access the riverfront. In addition,
the banks along the river are steep and highly susceptible to erosion. No access to the water is possible
with these conditions.
The site is completely within the flood zone and temporary flood protection only exists a fourth of a
mile beyond the site. The area along the river and mill creek is in the floodway, meaning even minor
flooding affects the area. The rest of the site is within the 100 year floodplain, meaning it has annual
flood probability of 1%.
[Proposal]
The landscape itself can serve as protection from flooding. By raising the elevation along the
riverfront, water is held back from the city. This can be done with a series of berms. When looking at
FEMA s flood maps we can see that already there are two natural exceptions to the floodplain. On the
site there are two existing berms excluded from the floodplain zone providing protection to the area
beyond them.
Innately, the landscape can be employed as

Failures of Internet Censorship Essay
Internet censorship is the use of filters or blocks to control what is published, access and viewed
across the internet. It is used by parents, organisations such as schools and corporations and
governments to restrict what their citizen s access and post online. Internet censorship has occurred
since the early days of the public internet, where governments around the world have attempted to
address the issue of illegal material, political propaganda, harmful material or content deemed
unsuitable for children. This essay will discuss the instances of internet censorship failing to work,
including when governments have attempted to introduce legislation to restrict access to the internet,
and the reasons for the failure. Censorship across ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this particular instance, internet censorship failed to work to some extent due to the cooperation of
combined companies and government. However, other techniques are used in order to restrict search
engine results.
Governments use different techniques to censor and restrict the internet. As stated previously the Great
Firewall of China, also known as the Golden Shield Project is considered the advanced Internet
censorship regime in the world and the largest in the world. The Chinese Government utilises many
techniques in the filtering and restriction of content. The most common techniques are IP Blocking,
DNS filtering and redirection, URL filtering, Packet filtering and Connection reset . In light of these
filtering and censorship methods, citizens of china have managed to circumvent their government s
censorship by accessing the internet through proxies and VPN s. A proxy re routs a users request via
another server, so that it appears that the request is coming from that server. The website being access
sends the data back to the proxy and the proxy forwards it to the user. The proxy will only secure
traffic via the internet browser. Unlike a Proxy, a VPN encrypts all traffic, not just the web browser.
Programs like TOR (The Onion Router) are designed to allow users to navigate around the firewall
and encrypt their traffic. With programs such as TOR, Ultrasurf and Freegate (just to name a few)
residents in China have been

At the working man s house hunger looks in but dares not enter.
Literal Meaning: The aphorism refers to the fact that hard workers don t have to worry about being
hungry because they can work hard to not go hungry.
Idea Expressed: To achieve success, you need to put effort and work hard in order to reach your goal.
Real World Example: A lot of people are always looking for a new phone, especially around
Christmas time. While some teens may be receiving one as gifts from their family, others may have
worked hard and saved up in order to buy it themselves without the help of family members. Instead
of spending their paycheck they received from their summer jobs, they may have planned ahead and

The Truth Behind Puritanism Belief System
The Truth Behind Puritanism The Puritanism belief system is much more complex than it appears to
be. Whenever Puritanism comes to mind, we probably think of purity and cleanliness. However, the
Puritan s have a very interesting way of achieving purity. The Puritans believe that God has
predestined the salvation of certain souls and one can do nothing to change this. They also believe
there is zero credit for good works and that people by nature are wholly sinful and can only achieve
goodness by severe discipline, but living a godly life is the result of being chosen as one of God s
elect. The elect are said to be saved from hell by predestination, and at some point during their life,

Repentance would allow God to forgive them and, in turn, motivate them towards living a lifestyle
that would glorify God. The punishments that would often evoke repentance included tongue piercing
with a hot awl and execution by hanging or burning at the stake. God s Word was respected more than
anything and if anyone blasphemed against the religion their tongue was to be pierced with a hot awl.
Also, if you were caught lying, bearing false witness, or withholding the truth from a court/judge/jury
you were eligible to have your tongue bored through. This type of punishment ensured you would
remember the importance of respecting God s Word; a punishment that would be a reminder to anyone
else who saw your tongue that blasphemy would not be tolerated. The next form of punishment could
be considered the most lenient punishment compared to other demeaning punishments. You could be
hung or burned at the stake if you were found guilty of murder, adultery, or fornications. One
historical example can be found in the year of 1637, during the Fall in Boston. A young lady named
Mary Latham was found to have an implied affair with a man named James Britton. Latham was
married to an elderly man at the time but spent a certain amount of time partying with younger men
and after a night of partying she fell into a corrupt engagement with James Britton. Both were found

records need critical consideration. This is due to various factors like bias, fallible memory, and
audience that colors these sources. How we discern fact from fiction is still unresolved. Ultimately, the
truth is relative for everyone. Yet, all three authors are often desiring inclusiveness of things left out in
the mainstream in order for society to find the truth. Calloway espouses attention towards Native

Are Cats Smarter Than Dogs
The Egyptians worshipped them, fish fear them, and they own the space around them like kings; cats
are small forces to be reckoned with. Do like cats or dogs? This question has haunted every get to

about these needless facts. Why every elementary school teacher saw this question as the optimum
way to ease the first day jitters is beyond me, but I digress. Recently I ve decided that it really isn t a
question of preferring one over the other, but rather it s you like one and respect the other. Dogs are
impossible to not like; they re large puffs of fur that contain about as much intelligence as an infant
while also retaining the endearing quality of I ll love you forever if you pet me . Cats however, are
cold, cunning, and judgmental creatures that refuse to demean themselves with silly things such as
utter devotion. When faced with these two polar opposite creatures, it is clear which one demands
respect. This is why cats are smarter than dogs; it is their self awareness, ability to concoct schemes,
and wholehearted refusal to submit to humans that guarantees them a reputation of intelligence and
prestige. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

BoJack s depression, likely caused by his abusive childhood, manifests itself in his alcoholism, self

Christian Faith Reflection
1. What do Jesus Christ and the Christian faith mean to you? How does your faith affect the way you
live?
My faith journey has been a long, gradual process of learning to know and follow Jesus as I grew up
in a local Mennonite church and a Christian family. The transition of going to college has pushed me
the most. Having independence put me in the situation to make all of my own choices. Do I wake up
and go to church? Do I go to chapel? How do I navigate choices around alcohol use or dating? How
does my faith inform these areas of life? I take the answers to these questions seriously. One of the
areas where I have grown and continue to grow is through the classes I have taken. My classes have
pushed me to consider what I believe and why I accept certain things as true. My concentration on
peace and conflict studies often leads to meaningful class discussions where I am challenged to
connect my faith to politics, economics, social issues, and conflicts around the world.
I believe that it is important to actively live out a lifestyle that can be seen in Jesus s teachings and the
way he lived his life. I also look towards others who have a good grasp on what Christianity means. I
am fortunate enough to have many friends and family who represent how you can live a life of
following Jesus. Outside of these personal connections, two other prominent influences are the

Analysis Of Rosie The Riveter
Rosie the Riveter Rosie the Riveter was a female icon created in a time of global war during the
1940s; she symbolized women who built ships and planes, and produced munitions (Ellis 478). She
was created to be a reminder to everyone to try new things, test limits, and believe in each other.
(Mather Thrift). She also represents any woman defense worker (Harvey). The women influenced by

Persuasive Essay On Drinking In College
Miley Cyrus sings, Red cups and sweaty bodies everywhere, hands in the air like we don t care, cause
we came to have so much fun now. (as cited in Davis et al, 2013). As such an influential role model
for many college students, Miley promotes carless drinking in her hit song We Can t Stop . The rates
of students who drink in college are very high and are leading to further problems. As found on
College Drinking Prevention.gov, According to the 2015 NSDUH, 58.0 percent of full time college
students ages 18 22 drank alcohol in the past month compared with 48.2 percent of other persons of
the same age (par. 1). College drinking in the United States is leading to an increase in alcohol related
deaths, suicides, and academic issues. To decrease the rate of unhealthy college drinking in the United
States, the legal drinking age should either be lowered, or the professors in the colleges and
universities should make their students workloads heavier.
Unhealthy and irresponsible drinking taking place by college students is causing further issues in their
lives. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the use of alcohol in a
campus setting is a ritual that the students consider an initiation to the start of their college careers.
(par. 2). College drinking leads to other health and social problems including deaths, suicides,
academic issues, drug use. Studies by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence
(2015) show that each year, more than 600,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted
by another student who has been drinking, 95% of all violent crime on college campuses involves the
use of alcohol by the assailant, victim or both, and 90% of acquaintance rape and sexual assault on
college campuses involves the use of alcohol by the assailant, victim or both. (Par. 16). College
students, especially the ones consuming alcohol, are the main stakeholders in this situation. Whether
they are participating in the use of alcohol or not, it still affects them one way or another. Friends and
family members are affected because if something happens to their loved one using alcohol they will
be directly affected. Possible outcomes of careless drinking include car

Delaying Gratification As A Process Of Scheduling The Pain...
Scott Peck describes delaying gratification as a process of scheduling the pain and pleasure of life in
such a way to enhance the pleasure ... (pg 19). In other words, it is realizing that in life, and especially
at work in any job, there are tasks and responsibilities that are enjoyable and there are tasks and
responsibilities that bring very little joy. By consciously scheduling the less enjoyable tasks around
those that are more enjoyable, time management will improve and productivity will increase. People
will be less likely to delay the less desirable tasks and responsibilities if they know that once those
tasks are complete, there awaits one that produces more enjoyment. In my career, the task I least enjoy
is marking. I love classroom instruction, interacting with the students, participating in extra curricular
activities, but marking is pure drudgery. However, I know that marking is an essential part of learning
and I try to schedule my marking time in the morning when I am not distracted by other events or
tired.
In today s technological world, organizations have a significantly more difficult time with this tool
than when Mr. Peck wrote this book. Electronic devices and social media have created a culture of
instant gratification. There is no need to wait until one gets home to talk about the day. Thoughts and
ideas are posted and instantly responded to by people around the world. Many work places have had
to create policy about employees using electronic devices

Guatemala And United States Government Systems Essay Guatemala and United States Government Systems Government is the authority that addresses, control and administers the institutions of a community. Every country has ruled by a governance structure. There are different kinds of government. This comparison is about the United States and Guatemala s forms of government. United States system has its foundation on an agreement between the people and the government to ensure that individual liberties continue to prosper under a free society. The Declaration of Independence lists three important rights that the Founding Fathers considered natural and unalienable. They are the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Government exists to protect these rights. On other hand, the purpose of Guatemala s government, according to the Guatemala s Constitution, is to promote the common welfare, the consolidation of the regime of legality, security, equality, justice, liberty and peace. • 5. Benefits Of Multiculturalism In Canada Since the era of jetliners, firsts introduced in the 1950s, new interactions have resulted in a more globalised world, which has increased relationship between the many countries and cultures. The relationship between the countries makes cultural diversity even more important for Canada and Ontario. Multiculturalism has some opponent; however, the positive benefits for Canada and Ontario are economic and cultural. Opponent of multiculturalism argues that the policies promote the divisiveness of Canada and are taking over land that should be available to all Canadians. The former Minister for Multiculturalism and Citizenship states that opponent of multiculturalism makes immigrant hyphenated Canadian instead of Canadian (Weiner, 1991). This happened when the Hindu community tried to build a waterfront cemetery in the GTA. Finding a city willing to support the project was complicated and they scouted as far as Niagara. Amnesty And Illegal Immigration Argumentative Analysis Amnesty and Illegal Immigration There has been debate regarding whether it was right for the Obama administration to allow amnesty for illegal immigrants or not. Various researchers and scholars have voiced their opinion regarding this subject, with some supporting the government decision. Many, however, have opined differently and are against this decision. This treatise will carry out an argumentative analysis that will justify how the pitfalls of amnesty surpass the benefits from the same. Further, he believes that amnesty as a law, with knowledge of illegal immigration, acts to award the illegals while disrespecting loyal and law abiding American citizens. It is also unfair morally because it undermines the opinions and rights of millions of legal immigrants who have abided by the rules and followed America s legal framework to become citizens. There are many legal immigrants who have taken the time, often elongated and spanning years, to conform to the established laws regarding immigration. Offering amnesty to the illegals is unfair, but also, the ultimate betrayal to those legal immigrants. Another factor that amnesty affects is crime at the United States borders. Curbing the crime rate at our borders has been made more difficult. The border patrol officers have to deal with a large number of illegal immigrants which not only complicates their security activities, but also makes it difficult for them to track criminals that may pose as immigrants. This will consequently increase the cost of deterring crime in the country, as well as, reduce the effectiveness of our police officers. Safety, for citizens alone, being affected makes amnesty ... In respect to their different approach towards shape, room, and work of art, the differences in their styles resulted in dissimilar descriptions. Renaissance and Baroque seem to concentrate towards the treatment of space, appearance, and color. This uniqueness affects the description of a painting and therefore it cannot be seen. The Baroque style, used by Caravaggio, was the absolute opposite of any Renaissance painter that had lived before him and because of this; it was probably the reason why he became the most radical artist of his time. He deserted the rules that had guided a century of artists before him and because of his theatrical break in style from the Italian Renaissance; he carefully brings a completely distinct treatment of narrative. Caravaggio s action of form in his Conversion of St. Paul is extraordinarily different from Perugino s work of art. One of the choices he decided to use was instead of outlining Paul and his horse with lines, Caravaggio abandons this unique style and adds movement by using a painterly style in which he uses paint to create an image and not rigid outlines. He uses color and value to produce a unique form, causing a sense of movement in the figures. They are not locked in time like Perugino s figures and express the exact opposite message of classical, passive figures. These are strong, vibrant, and emotional figures. Perhaps the emotional aspect of the figures is created by Caravaggio s introduction of dramatic light and dark effects, termed tenebrism. This technique was a great breakthrough in art, which added great emotional effects and mystery to the art. Caravaggio doesn t light Paul with a clear even light like Perugino ... ASPCAAdvertisement Analysis Many ASPCA advertisements use a combination of different appeals to recruit people, specifically pet owners, to donate to their important cause, which is saving and rescuing endangered, neglected, and abused animals. The many different strategies that the ASPCA advertisements use are ethos, pathos, logos, warm colors, a scene of a loving environment, images of animals in pain and hurting, and a reward if their target audience does decide to help their cause. They use three different but major appeals in this as well, the first being logos. The advertisement tells us that an animal is abused every hour. They used this so we could put it into perspective just how often it happens. The next appeal they had used is ethos because they used someone who is famous to help build the credibility of ASPCA. If it is someone we know, we as humans are more likely to listen to what they have to say. The last major appeal they used was pathos. Pathos was used in many forms in this commercial from the song that was used, to the pictures that scrolled across our screen, to the fact that no pet owner want to see a pet hurting and in pain as the pictures showed. Freud teaches us his idea of the ego, superego, and the id. The ego consists of the conscious thought, which is understood as the cartoon character [that] has a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other (Freud, The Dependent Relationship of the Ego). Literally speaking, character A was faced with the battle between devil and angel, good and evil, and it is the branches of herself in B and C that such a contrast is shown. Character C is the object of the angel and represented by innocence, the character traits of a child, because she is the little one, the character with the least amount of experience in the world (Albee 39). It had been always believed that Bob Marley passed away from cancer in 1981 because he returned to Jamaica by plane from Germany. It is interesting that the Chambers were able to come up with only one explanation: Naturally I concluded somebody was playing a joke on us, and told my assistant to label the body as persons unknown . This would mean he could be cremated by authorities and the death filed as that of an unknown male in his late 60s to early 70s. But it was then that things got really weird. Once the backbone of the city s economic activity, much of it now lies vacant and abandoned. Scarred by the derelict remains of its industrial past and cut off from the city by roads and railways, these sites are largely forgotten by the public and show little signs of their untapped potential. The landscape is in clear need of repair. In some other locations, sections of the waterfront have been converted into riverfront parks. In reality, there is no evidence of residential or recreational activities taking place in the area. In some places the riverfront was used as a construction material dump site, with evidence of the waste being burned on site. Non commercial use is hampered by a lack of accessible and legal ways into the site. The site is currently almost completely blocked off by railroads and raised roadways, with the exception of a private road entrance on the east end, making trespassing required to access the riverfront. In addition, the banks along the river are steep and highly susceptible to erosion. No access to the water is possible with these conditions. The site is completely within the flood zone and temporary flood protection only exists a fourth of a mile beyond the site. The area along the river and mill creek is in the floodway, meaning even minor flooding affects the area. The rest of the site is within the 100 year floodplain, meaning it has annual flood probability of 1%. [Proposal] The landscape itself can serve as protection from flooding. By raising the elevation along the riverfront, water is held back from the city. This can be done with a series of berms. When looking at FEMA s flood maps we can see that already there are two natural exceptions to the floodplain. On the site there are two existing berms excluded from the floodplain zone providing protection to the area beyond them. Innately, the landscape can be employed as

The Chinese Government utilises many techniques in the filtering and restriction of content. The most common techniques are IP Blocking, DNS filtering and redirection, URL filtering, Packet filtering and Connection reset . In light of these filtering and censorship methods, citizens of china have managed to circumvent their government s censorship by accessing the internet through proxies and VPN s. A proxy re routs a users request via another server, so that it appears that the request is coming from that server. The website being access sends the data back to the proxy and the proxy forwards it to the user. The proxy will only secure traffic via the internet browser. Unlike a Proxy, a VPN encrypts all traffic, not just the web browser. Programs like TOR (The Onion Router) are designed to allow users to navigate around the firewall and encrypt their traffic. The punishments that would often evoke repentance included tongue piercing with a hot awl and execution by hanging or burning at the stake. Cats however, are cold, cunning, and judgmental creatures that refuse to demean themselves with silly things such as utter devotion. My faith journey has been a long, gradual process of learning to know and follow Jesus as I grew up in a local Mennonite church and a Christian family. The transition of going to college has pushed me the most. Having independence put me in the situation to make all of my own choices. Do I wake up and go to church? Do I go to chapel? How do I navigate choices around alcohol use or dating? How does my faith inform these areas of life? I take the answers to these questions seriously. One of the areas where I have grown and continue to grow is through the classes I have taken. My classes have pushed me to consider what I believe and why I accept certain things as true. My concentration on peace and conflict studies often leads to meaningful class discussions where I am challenged to connect my faith to politics, economics, social issues, and conflicts around the world. I believe that it is important to actively live out a lifestyle that can be seen in Jesus s teachings and the way he lived his life. I also look towards others who have a good grasp on what Christianity means. I am fortunate enough to have many friends and family who represent how you can live a life of following Jesus. College drinking in the United States is leading to an increase in alcohol related deaths, suicides, and academic issues. To decrease the rate of unhealthy college drinking in the United States, the legal drinking age should either be lowered, or the professors in the colleges and universities should make their students workloads heavier. In other words, it is realizing that in life, and especially at work in any job, there are tasks and responsibilities that are enjoyable and there are tasks and responsibilities that bring very little joy. By consciously scheduling the less enjoyable tasks around those that are more enjoyable, time management will improve and productivity will increase. People will be less likely to delay the less desirable tasks and responsibilities if they know that once those tasks are complete, there awaits one that produces more enjoyment. In my career, the task I least enjoy is marking. I love classroom instruction, interacting with the students, participating in extra curricular activities, but marking is pure drudgery.
