American Imperialism Research Paper
Nationalism is the ideology based on the foundation that the individual s loyalty and devotion to the
selected nation is more important than other individual or group interests. There are many things
that people are able to relate to and identify as being that can include; their culture, homeland,
family, and/or religion. There is naturally a strong loyalty towards the place people were raised.
However, that tends to bring enemies too because not everyone is born in the same place and it
tends to bring competition on which place it better bringing rift to all around. Even though with all
of the negatives that come with strong nationalism, I believe nationalism brings more good than
bad in Europe, Japan, Russia, the United States. Europe s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Americans are the proudest of their country as it is the mixing pot of the world. Nationalism
brought the United States freedom sooner than most other countries. There was a clear two party
political system that did divide people into two belief systems, however it still gives them an
independence in their choices. At the end of the day, the two major political systems still follow
one goal: what is best for the USA? The Great Depression was one of the most horrible financial
struggles that America has ever had, but they kept striving through nationalism (p.

Xia Dynasty History
The largest populated country in the world lies in China, which currently contains over 1 billion
people. China is popularly known for its martial arts, famous landmarks (ex: Great Wall, Terracotta
Warriors, Mount Everest etc.) and for its furry black and white creatures; the great Panda Bear.
However, many people who haven t experienced this culture may not know much of its history and
its ways.
History of the Xia Dynasty: China s long history dates back to almost 5000 years ago and have a
written past of 3000 years. In the 21st century China s first dynasty the Xia Dynasty was the first
clan to set up a government and rule over China. The beginning of the Xia Dynasty started from the
legendary Yu the Greatwho was known for controlling violent floods. During this time China
struggled with floods overflowing their crops and lands, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our family allows generations to live on and new ones to be created. In China many Chinese
believe in the ways of Confucianism who believed that maintaining a healthy lifestyle starts at
home. Confucius a Chinese philosopher and teacher created the 5 relationships: ruler to subject,
father to son, older brother to younger brother, husband to wife, and senior friend to junior friend.
This concept was to show respect in how you act or acted upon to others.
1 Child Policy: During the Han Dynasty when Han was in power, farming was essential to
China. So Han encouraged families to have more children. However, this lead to overpopulation
and China was becoming too populated. In the 1970s a policy was released called the one child
policy which limits 1 child per family. If this law was disobeyed the government would suggest
abortion or large fees to be paid, a pretty scary law for some families. This program was to
hopefully lower and maintain the population rate in China. Now in 2016, families can have more

Commerce Clause Research Paper
Commerce Clause The commerce clause is located in Article 1, Section 8 and clause 3 of the U.S.
Constitution. According to the commerce clause, the Federal government has the right to regulate
commerce among the U.S. and foreign nations and some states. The commerce clause has led to
great controversy for many years. The commerce clausegives congress authority to legislate in
many areas or address a broad range of issues. The clause however does limit the congress to only
the regulation of interstate commerce. The interstate commerce allows business to be conducted
across the state lines. The states are left with the rights to regulate local and interstate commerce.

oral arguments on the Affordable Care Act. In 2010 Congress passed the Patients Protection and
Affordable Care (ACA). A federal statue was signed into law by President Obama which aims to
reform the U.S. health care system. The ACA was designed to expand health insurance coverage to
millions of patients including mandatory coverage of preventative measures such as mammograms,
while increasing access to health services and treatment. The law also seeks to provide quality
measures and payment reform that aim to increase efficiencies and the quality of patients care.
Supporters of the ACA and the individual mandate assert that the authority to require citizens to
purchase health insurance is granted by the U.S. Constitution Commerce Clause, which authorizes
Congress to regulate interstate commerce. The ACA had numerous effects on businesses. Although
the new law contained many opportunities, it could potentially cause risk for pharmaceutical

Knights Of The Past And Stories Of Arthur
Arthur knights to Medieval knights Knights of the past and those from stories of Arthur are
always intriguing. However have you ever wondered what s knights of the past were really like?
Maybe past knights weren t all about honor and loyalty. Maybe even some of them were villains
in some kind of mixed up way. Well this can all be solved in researching Knights of the past and
stories of Arthur. In the end you will learn that knights of the past and those of the Arthurian age
were very similar. Knights have always interested me, but have you ever wondered if the stories
were true? For example, we always see a man in silver armor graciously saving the princess in the
end. However were there actually knights who did this or was it just... Show more content on

Knights wore many chains to protect themselves as well as metal plates. Back in the old times
knights really were seen as the police of today. Except the chivalry code of loyalty sometimes made
it hard for the knights. Since the knight must pledge to the Lord of his loyalty, he would have to
whatever the Lord commands him to do. Sometimes a lord would go mad as a march hare with
power and command his knight to do his bidding, however it is not the knights fault, for if he
disobeyed the lord he could be killed or jailed for his disregards to an order. Many knights who
could of been seen as a Knightly figure were not due to their lords inconsiderate behaviors. One
of the best known knights in medieval times would have to be William Marshal. William
Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke is often referred to as the extravagant medieval knight who rose
to prominence for his bravery in tournaments and warfare. He earlier entered the service of King
Henry II, who made him a guardian to his eldest son in 1170. But during the revolt of Henry s
sons, he remained loyal to the father and helped him put down the rebellion. When Richard the
Lionheart became King of England, he kept Marshal at his side which turned out to be a very good
idea. During his absence, Marshal prevented the King s brother John from seizing

Disadvantages Of Job Fairs
Job seekers typically search corporate websites first during the job search process. Posting jobs
on company websites casts a broad net, capturing the interest of the largest possible talent pool.
Potential employees are instantly exposed to company highlights, diversity information,
employee benefits, and work life balance programs (Cascio, 2016). Career fairs are typically
industry specific which automatically refines the talent pool. Most career fairs require an upfront
participation fee however, companies can discern qualified candidates from unqualified candidates
rather quickly and save an exorbitant amount of recruitment expenses (Career Trend, 2017). Also,
this platform generates high applicant flow. External recruitment allows companies to choose
from a talent pool who could have been recently trained or educated therefore having up to date
knowledge and skills (Cascio, 2016). Because external candidates have not been exposed to office
politics and office norms they are more likely to accept change and innovation (Cascio, 2016).
Lastly, external recruitment provides a convenient way to satisfy job place diversity requirements
through hiring minorities and women (Cascio, 2016). DISADVANTAGES OF RECRUITMENT
ADVERTISING AND CAREER FAIRS Several issues arise due to the large talent pool attracted
from posting open positions on company websites. Often times, applicants have an incomplete and
/or inaccurate understanding of what the job opening involves ,

Character Analysis Of Watchmen And Jimmy Corrig The...
The superhero archetype is traditionally a staple of the comic book medium. The Golden Age of
comics, a period of comic publishing between the 1930s and early 1950s, was rife with larger
than life super human figures, who often served as an escape from the anxieties produced by war
and everyday life. Superheroes like Superman, Batman, and Captain America function as cultural
representations of idealism and the American Dream. However, representations of heroism in comic
books has shifted significantly since the bright eyed idealism and Romanticism of the Golden Age.
In the Modern Age of comic publishing, contemporary comics tend to appropriate, adapt, and
deconstruct tropes from the Golden and Silver Age of comics. Ultimately,... Show more content on

The text is wrought with nihilism, cynicism, and multiple characters who are affected by the
power of the abyss. The Comedian s big joke is that there is no point to anything, and he does not
really care. It is not a particularly funny joke , but it ultimately speaks to the motif of nihilism
within the comic. This sensation of nihilism is aligned with the corruption of the American Hero
archetype. It is impossible to ignore the fact that the novel is constructed around a sort of alternative
future/past, an alternate universe that functions within a political climate which exacerbates the
tensions between America and other nations, as well as internally. There is a sort of anti
Romanticism about this text that renders the characters more human, despite the fact that they are
supposed to be the hero figures. The inclusion of Hollis Mason s Under The Hood, excerpts from
a fictional extra textual element of the story prove that chronicle the first wave of vigilante heroes,
reveals that even the initial Minutemen began to realize to what extent they were only people,
especially when their roles as heroes are trumped by the advent of the superhero, new powerful
entities that alter the course of history. The traditional hero is displaced in the new social order of
Watchmen, as well as in the contemporary genre of

The Piano Lesson
There are many lessons to be taught in the world some are learned through experience some are
learned in times of struggle others are passed down from generation to generation. Often times in
literature the author seeks to teach you a lesson or a set of moral values throughout the passage. In
the book The PianoLesson there are many different lessons and themes to be explored. In the
story each character is relatable. People of today s society could stand to learn the lessons that
each character brings. The story The Piano Lesson should continue to be a part of the English 12
curriculum because of lessons that can be retained from the play which are woman s place in

The second lesson that can be learned from Berniece goes beyond the importance of family it is
the importance of ancestral history. The reason Berniece is so attached to the piano is the
family history tied to it. When her grandparents were freed from slavery her grandfather died
over stealing it. Then even past that her mother was obsessed with playing the piano and
cleaned it everyday. She taught Berniece how to play piano on it and her mother used to say it
filled her with great joy to hear Berniece play. But, after her mother died Berniece never played
the piano again. In this scene Boy Willie yet again is trying to sell the piano. Berniece begins to
defend saying, Look at this piano. Mama Ola polished this piano with her tears for seventeen
years. For seventeen she rubbed on it till her hands bled. Then she rubbed the blood in. This is
part of the reason Berniece is so attached to the piano which is the reason she will never allow
Boy Willie to have the piano. Berniece s love for her ancestral history is what causes her to be so
attached to piano and why she will always defend it. She at one point pulls a gun out on Boy
Willie and says he won t take the piano over her dead body. In this scene which is basically the
ending of the story as everything around her is caving in. Berniece has an epiphany to play the
piano to cleanse all the surroundings of all trouble. The story goes, It is in this moment, from
somewhere old, that Berniece realizes what she must do. She crosses to the piano. She begins to
play. The song is found piece by piece. It is an old urge to song that is both a commandment and a
plea. With repetition it gains strength. It is intended as an exorcism and a dressing for battle. A
rustle of wind blowing across two continents. What ends up happening is it solves all the problems
around her. It almost seems to

The War Against Terrorism Essay
The War Against Terrorism
On August 2nd 1990, Iraq invaded the small oil rich country of Kuwait on its southeastern
border. Iraq claimed that Kuwait was a long time province from the 1800 s and early 1900s ,
whose lands belonged under control of Iraq, a so called province. Saddam Hussein also argued
that Kuwait was pumping oil from an oil field that was on the border of the two countries and
belonged to Iraq. Upon gaining control of Kuwait, Hussein was able to eliminate his previous debt
to Kuwait and gain it s substantial oil wealth, roughly 10% of the worlds oil supply. Regardless of
the motives behind Iraq s invasion, under international law, none of Iraq s claims against Kuwait
justified its invasion of that country.

In the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11th, the world has had a
sobering look at world terrorism. Led mainly by the United States, and supported by the United
Nations, a new war on terrorism has begun. Overwhelming support worldwide has surfaced as
President Bush has vowed to punish those who decide to commit terrorist acts, as well as those
who harbor or condone these activities. So far Bush has followed through on his promise with the
war in Afghanistan against the Taliban regime. Others are also displaying their understanding of
the situation and are treading a great deal lighter in search of their causes to avoid being labeled as
terrorists, as shown by the latest disarmament and return to the negotiating table by the Irish
Republican Army. As the world watches, President Bush is now faced with enormous pressure to
gain control of the Arab Israeli conflict.
However, this situation is a difficult one. With Israeli s continual attempt to occupy more land in
the disputed settlements, Palestinian anger only grows. With Yasir Arafat s inability to control, or
unwillingness to control, such militant groups as Hamas and Islamic Jihad, chances of the two
sides reaching a piece agreement dwindle.

Comparing The New Science Of Leading Change And The Three...
Those who aspire to be good leaders need information and knowledge to guide their employees
to greatness. The Influencer: The New Science of Leading Change and The Three Signs of a
Miserable Job have a wealth of information for leaders as well as their employees to expand their
lives and the way they live it. This paper will compare and contrast the New Science of Leading
Change and The Three Signs of a Miserable Job to show the importance of both books.
Additionally, it will give the rationale behind using the two books in the same course. Lastly, it will
outline how a leader can learn from and use the information in the two books to create a more
effective organizational environment.

The Influencer starts by asking the questions, Can I do what s required? and Am I Motivated?
This starting point allows the influencer to assess whether the six source model will be beneficial
to the employees. On the other hand, the Three Signs model aspire leaders to engage their
employees; therefore, benefitting the organization to build a culture of job fulfillment. This book
asks managers to take a self assessment, relating to anonymity, irrelevance and immeasurement.
The Three Signs of a Miserable Job (2007) boasts the first step to reducing job misery lies in
understanding the root causes of a miserable job (p. 220). Comparing the two books shows the
benefits to leaders and their employees. Contrasting the two books will display noticeable
differences in achieving their goals.
CONTRASTING THE TWO BOOKS In contrast to The Three Signs of a Miserable Job, the
Influencer summarizes three mistakes which can be made during the six source model. These
mistakes include: fuzzy, uncompelling goals, infrequent or no measures, and bad measures. These
mistakes according to the Influencer (2013) can undermine the influence of the change agents;
therefore, allowing no vital behavior change to happen (p. 16). Due to this factor, The Three Sign
of a Miserable Job does not give steps to follow when their model

Symbolism In Whale Rider
In the film Whale Rider, the whale represents life and death. The whale represents life because it
is the mammal on which Paikea s great ancestor rode across the ocean reaching New Zealand
which eventually became the settlement of the Maori people. The whale represents death because
the Maori people would not be on the island they live on if Paikea the great ancestor had not ridden
the whaleto the secluded island in the Pacific. The whale is not only a mean of transportation of
the great ancestor but a symbolism of how their culture thrives just on their existence. The Maori
people would not be alive on the island of New Zealandif it hadn t been for their great ancestor who
was the original whale rider.
The whale helps film viewers recognize Pai s leadership abilities in the ending scenes as the whole
community come together to try and save a pod of beached whale. Koro, Pai s grandfather
originally finds them as he is on his way to her school performance when he notices them all
along the beach in the dark of night. The community comes together in efforts to free the whales
so Koro who is the chief takes charge and instructs everyone to help move the whale closest to
the water in hope that the other will follow. Being the chief of the community, he has a special
connection with the whale he chose to move because it s the leader of the pod. Everyone gathers
around the one whale and tries to move it to no avail even with the help of a tractor. Pai is

Nearly 50% of patients with infective airway diseases are at an increased risk of developing Acute
Lung Injury or Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ALI/ARDS). Endotracheal intubation may be
lifesaving in these situations, as they allow provision of adequate tissue oxygenation, reduce the
respiratory muscle effort and avert hemodynamic embarrassment. Over the last 20 years, many

John Keegan s The Face Of Battle
John Keegan s The Face of Battle and Sir Charles Oman s The Art of War in the Middle Ages
provide insight into how historians approach the subject of battle. When discussing warfare,
historians typically approach the subject from a procedural point of view, but it has also become
normal to focus on combatants experiences. By cross comparing Keegan and Oman s descriptions
of the Battleof Agincourt, it is apparent that both the procedural method and the method of focusing
on individuals have merit. However, Keegan and Oman s alternate depictions of the battle
demonstrate how combining both perspectives give a more complete understanding of the past.
Historical writings have evolved from procedural accounts of events to inquisitive reflections on
combatants. Focusing on weapons, strategies and generals perspectives the procedural approach
quickly provides in depth information, but often in a distorted way 1. It is important to remember
a commander s actions and the events of their battles are often exaggerated to support current
political goals . Alternately, a slightly more encompassing approach to warfare considers the
conflict s decisiveness in addition to the battle s statistics and facts 1. That is to say, what influence
did the battle have on future events and how were people s lives changed by it. Beyond these
procedural approaches, modern historians now use a more inquisitive method that combines
personal experiences and facts. This more inclusive method allows

Analysis Of Disney Films Mulan And Aladdin
Starting its production of films in the early 20th century, Disney has become a very popular
company targeting an audience of children and adults. By the 21st century, its films has gone
through many changes according to trends during those periods of time, especially with
relationships between males and females. Men has always been prominent compared to the
women in the movies. Women were displayed to be very dependent on male characters to come
rescue them, no signs of independency are apparent until recent contemporary films. In the movies
Mulan and Aladdin, the women were more free spirited and less dependent on men. In this case,
Disney films begins to break that barrier of genderroles within a relationship as a couple, changing
the view of gender expectations similar to this day. Around the early 20th century, women never
gained freedom or rights like how it is today. Expected to stay home, manage the house, please
their husband, and depend on the men to bring or come home with their needs. Kathi Maio , a

In any organization, a person can see the five bases of power at work, some powers more than
others depending on the individual in charge and the circumstances. The power used by such
individuals can affect communication within the organization, whether positive or negative. There
are five bases of power, being coercive, reward, legitimate, expert and personal.

The Police Chief also has reward power in that he has the power to promote or give raises in the
department.
The Fire Safety officer in the department is a Sergeant, has been with the University 13 years,
longer than anyone else and is an expert in his field of work. Because of this, he exercises more
of the personal power, such as expert and referent power. When it comes to any information or
equipment for the Department, he is the go to guy. He has also served in a supervisory capacity
before and is second in command to eh Police Chief, as well as the event coordinator for the
Department. When he speaks on a matter, everyone for the most part listens and complies with his
directives. Because of his personality, many of the employees consider him approachable and
communicate well with him.
An example of legitimate power is exercised with the shift supervisors who consist of Sergeants
and Corporals. These ones have been given authority from the Police Chief to discipline
individuals under them on each shift or to handle petty matters. He backs these ones up on
whatever decisions are made on their shift provided it does not interfere with the policies of the
University Police Department. If problems do arise in the department, there is an open door
policy where the employees are welcome to discuss with the Chief or their immediate supervisor
so that it can be resolved as soon as possible.

Impact Of Economic Liberalisation On Livelihoods
The Impact Of Economic Liberalisation On Livelihoods In Nigeria
Economic liberalization on livelihoods in Nigeria refers to how the decrease in government
control, through deregulation and lesser restrictions in the economy to promote greater
participation of private entities, serves as a means of securing the basic necessities of life i.e. food,
water, shelter and clothing. This is done in an effort to encourage economic development through
the doctrine is associated with classical liberalism. Following in the pattern of major economic
reforms of emerging markets such as Brazil, China and India, Nigeria has followed the same path of
economic liberalisation to ameliorate itself in the global competition, in order to achieve a higher
standard of living.
In Nigeria, economic liberalization through deregulation and privatization, has been implemented
for various reasons, such as the demand for efficient and effective Public Enterprises, reduction in
external borrowing, stronger capital markets, and improve accountability, but most important of all,
for generation of employment and sustainable livelihoods for the betterment of Nigerian welfare

king s imperial system were pushed to their breaking points.
King Leopold II began his career on the world stage as a young individual leading an almost
equally young nation. Much of his life was devoid of genuine human connections and emotion, and
he ruthlessly pursued power and profits, likely in an attempt to fill this void. He went about this
pursuit by modeling the nation which he so admired, Great Britain. He was entranced by its
methods of imperialism, and he came to the conclusion, after investigating a multitude of other
options, that Africa offered the most opportunities for his individual profit, as the majority of the
wild lands on other continents had already been colonized by more influential European powers.
After he came into power, Leopold broached the topic of a Belgium controlled colony in a much
different manner than he had while his father was still king. Previously, Leopold was

William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet s Appeal to...
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet s Appeal to Audiences in Modern Time Four hundred
years ago, William Shakespeare wrote what is perhaps the world s best loved play: Romeo and
Juliet . It still plays to packed theatres, all over the world, and has been adapted and rewritten for
thousands of operas, musicals, films and plays. However, a close look at the structure and content
of Romeo and Juliet can explain the play s timeless appeal. The play is constructed with an
astonishing complexity. A large number of related impressions, ideas and emotions are woven
together throughout the play; this ensures an audience s interest is maintained throughout. The play

In this scene Capulet is playing the part of the jovial host and is appalled at Tybalt s threat to kill
Romeo: He shall be endured (I.5, line 76). It surprises the audience that Capulet speaks well of
his enemy Romeo: Verona brags of him / To be a virtuous and well governed youth (I.5, lines 68

like him, this is important preparation for the character development that takes place in Act 3. At
the beginning of Act 3, Scene 5 Capulet finds Juliet in tears; he is sympathetic to his daughter s
mourning: What still in tears? / Evermore showering? (III.5, lines 129 130). However, when
Capulet learns that Juliet refuses to marry Paris, Capulet transforms from loving, to confused, to
furious: Out, you green sickness carriage! / You tallow face! (III.5, lines 155 156). The audience
is shocked at this sudden change of tone and character; Capulet s rage is exciting to the audience

How Did Patterson Became An American
Frederick Douglass Patterson was born on October 10, 1901, in Washington, D.C. He was the
youngest of five children and was named after abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Both of Patterson
s parents died of tuberculosis when he was still a toddler, and at just 2 years old, he was sent to
live with his aunt Julia Dorsey. When Patterson was 7, his older sister Wilhelmina Bessie became
his legal guardian.
Patterson went to primary school and high school programs at Sam Houston College and Prairie

Case Study Of Roug Rough Cut Capacity Planning
1. INTRODUCTION
Consumer demand for a product can be fulfilled entirely in the master production schedule if
supported by production capacity according to production requirements. Master production
schedule can be easily realized if consumer demand is constant, but in fact companies often
experience fluctuations in the demand of consumers who tend to be unstable. Based on research
Liske F. (2012) that capacity planningis done well can meet the demand of existing customers as
well as be able to increase the company s revenue. Based on research Ria Amalia (2012) that
consumer demand can be met by adding machines at work center that is experiencing a shortage of

Essay On Frame House
The men heave gargantuan beams of wood in a pile, and place them very orderly on the ground
next to each other. Some have strange notches in them, and others have letters and numbers marked
up and down the sides. The workers build the foundation in a matter of hours, and soon they are
ready to create the woodframe. Using only wooden pegs to fit into the notches, they create a 40
structure, towering over the trees in the backyard. With much effort, this frame is what would
become our timber frame house, made from pure wood. They didn t use nails, in fact, they didn t

If enough writers use a given object or situation in enough works, we start to recognize and

In a situation where we encounter purely private symbols, there are some things we can fall back

пЃ¬Some symbols are harder to detect
пЃ¬They are private , meaning that you need a deeper analysis to uncover what the symbol

Other literary example: In the Hunger Games, the Mockingjay pin seems to represent mocking jays

rebellion, and ultimately, Katniss herself; she becomes the Mockingjay.
Media/pop culture example: In Frozen, Elsa s gloves seem to be used to solely hide her magical

of showing people who she really is because she is different than the others. Likewise, Hans uses

Analysis Of The Letter To His Father
Franz Kafka wrote this Letter to his Father in November 1919, but it was never delivered. After
writing the letter by hand, he got it typed, and it is not known whether he wanted the contents of
the letter to reach the public eye at the time of writing or not. When Kafka asked his friend Max
Brod to destroy his writings at his death, and Max Brods refusal to do so brought them to the world,
this letter too was part of what he received, which was eventually published in its entirety in 1953.
The Letter to his Father is a multi generic exercise in that it couples autobiography with the form of
the letter, and relies on the strategies of the familychronicle to present perspectives on both the
speaker and the subject through an ironic, critical lens. This letter is also one of the most
accessible documentary that we have on Kafka himself, whose self scrutiny and analysis off his
own situation as a sonoffers us insights into the way he saw his growth as an individual in
circumstance that he considered difficult. As a literary example, on the other hand, the latter makes
use of several conventions such as first person narratorial voice (for the impression of authenticity),
anecdote (for historical contextualization), and flashback (for reference). At the same time, the
letter is a long document with a focussed subject where the addressee (his father) is as much the
occasion for the writing, as he is the protagonist whose and mode of functioning form part of what
Kafka deals

As mentioned within the paper, there are benefits to having services provided by both public and

services offered by TJJD, are required to provide yearly reports. In many ways these reports
keep the system accountable for the money they are spending and the services they provide or

relates to research, these reports allow people to critically assess juvenile programs, while
challenging the government to refine or create programs superior to the ones offered in the past.
Reports like these are harder to find regarding services offered by private entities and is a
concern. Programs in which juvenile offenders are required to successfully complete, should never
be determined by trial and error; however, this is often the case. On a positive note, private entities
and community resources typically target the specific needs of a juvenile and include mental health
components. Programs which do not offer mental health services should be critically assessed, as
they are less likely to succeed. It is important that continued research is applied to the programs

Examples Of Narcissism
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the essential features of a
personality disorder are impairments in personality (self and interpersonal) functioning and the
presence of pathological personality traits. The personality disorder known as narcissism is often
characterized by an excessive amount of love for one s self. These individuals paradoxically are
insecure about themselves and need constant approval from others and ultimately have low self
esteem.
It greatly impairs their basic functioning skills like having a sense of identity and self direction.
They find it immensely difficult to cope with criticism of any form and thus require continuous
amounts of admiration from others. When presented with adversity it may often result in three
things: extreme rage, a counterattack or a complete social withdrawal. An example of this could be
the narcissist ranting on facebook to emphasise a disagreement with a friend. It could also mean
deleting or going on a hiatus from social media altogether. Their ability to have self direction

The civil war was a major event in the history of Mississippi. The president during this time was

the union. The view of the state was that it was necessity for the state to have slavery. So the white

Symbolism In The Awakening
Birds and the Sea: Symbolism in The Awakening, a novel by Kate Chopin.
Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, is loaded with of symbols. Chopin uses birds, clothing,
characters, language, and other symbols to support the theme of the story. This essay will focus
on the symbolism of learning to swim in the sea and how Chopin intertwines this and a few other
symbols with her main character Edna Pontellier. Most of the symbols Chopin employs in some
way lead the reader back to the primary message of the novel; self discovery and independence
are wonderful ideas, but in the late eighteen hundreds they can lead a woman outside of societal
expectations, independence aloneness, but can also create a lot of strife and may lead her to

Good Faith Exception
Police officers, like the citizens they protect, can make mistakes. I do not believe that police
officers should be held liable for acting in good faith. According to the United States Supreme
Court, per Brinegar v. United States, because many situations which confront officers in the course
of executing their duties are more or less ambiguous, room must be allowed for some mistakes on
their part. But the mistakes must be those of reasonable men, acting on facts leading sensibly
leading to their conclusions of probability. (PoliceMag, 2007). The Fourth Amendment protects the
citizens of the United States from unreasonable searches and seizures. (U.S. Const. amend. IV).
Over the course of history, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of protecting the policeofficers
from any liability. My focus will be on the good faith exception and the exigent circumstance.
The Good Faith Exception
First, the good faith exception protects law enforcement officers who had reasonable intentions, but
made mistakes with their actions. The Supreme Court first introduced the good faith exception in
United States v. Leon. The Court maintained that the exclusionary ruleis not relevant in situation
when police officers act with reasonable dependence on a search warrant that later proves to be
invalid. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Differences Between A Job Application And Resume
Career Paper During Freshman Studies, we learned about how to properly and appropriately fill
out a job application and so much more. Our lesson included resumes, work etiquette, non
traditional careers, our future, and more. With the educational practices performed in class, I now
officially understand the differences between a job application and resume, because at first I
thought it was the same thing. The application and scenario simulators really helped me when
understanding what was not accepted on an application and while working and what was. Also, I
learned about the things that can get you fired, which surprised me, because it s even small
mistakes that can ruin your opportunity to get a job.

It is not allowed for the worker to just leave whenever they feel the need to. Now with the activities
done in class, I understand that and will take the knowledge with me for when I have a job of my
own. It s pretty scary to think that I would have a job of my own soon, but now I know what to do
and what to expect.
The rules and regulations for a job and proper work etiquette is very important to know. Not only
can disregarding the rules prevent you from getting the job but it can also get you fired and
more. Everybody should know the regulations for a proper behavior because it can help you
during many situations. If you understand what s appropriate and what s not, then it can prevent
you from losing your job. I already knew some of the basic things about what s acceptable and
what s not but some things I learned in class. For example, the small things, like being late. What
I already knew was to just be on time. But in class, I learned that just a simple call to work
notifying that you re going to be late can save you a lot of trouble. I am glad that Freshman
Studies is even a class in high school and that I m a part of it. Sure I slack off here and there but
honestly the material is so important to know. It s important to know for when we grow up and
look so succeed. In addition to knowing the rules and regulations for a job, we also discussed in
class about what job we might be interested in. Many people already know what they want

The History of Army Expert Badges and the Concept of a New One The Expert Infantry Badge
(EIB) was established in 1944 by Chief of staff George C. Marshall. The badge was intended to
motivate Infantryman during peacetime. The concept of the EIB was to reward the infantryman s
role in combat and maintain proficiency in the artistic task of being and Infantryman. Considering
the Infantryman MOS which doesn t award much career opportunities in the civilian world this
was to be a badge of honor to add prestige to a rigorous not so much desired yet detrimental task.

Stereotypes In Horror Movies
More than any other genre of film, horror is perhaps the one ridiculed almost as often as it is
revered. This is because, as the medium continues mellowing, audiences are able to pick up and
acknowledge the common situations and stereotypes that have populated it for decades. There also
able to make metal representations .While these circumstances were once idiosyncratic and able to
shock, now we ВЂВ™ve seen so many flunctuations of the same storys that filmmakers are
forced to find new ways to make people shake with fear. So what rules will you need to know to
survive in the horror movies nowadays . As our ancestors recognized long ago, man does not
survive alone, yet it is common for characters in horror films to go against this logic and
bifurcate when staying together is the safer way to go. When going up against the main
antagonist your odds of survival rise substantially when you have the help of others to rely on.
Horror movie characters appear to life in an alternate universe where going out into the creepy
forest to investigate a noise by yourself is a good idea, and the results are almost always fatal.
These characters might as well slap a ВЂВњ Kill MeВЂВќ sign on their back and rub themselves
in some blood. In horror situations, strength comes from numbers, so if you want to survive, bring
friends just be careful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

example, leather face, from the texas chainsaw massacre. He was wearing a funeral outfit the whole

The Argument Of Free Will
Philosophers have debated and struggled with the argument of free will for centuries. In my
opinion, I would like to believe that we have free will because I would hope that my decisions are
mine and not of some powerful overlord or an advanced civilization in a simulation. Over the years
there have been many theories or speculations about free will. Some philosophers would define free
will as the ability to do what we want to do . With this definition, we do have free will because
most of the time we can do what we want. However, we could be made to believe that it is our
choice, but if we were to repeat a scenario where you choose option A we would repeatedly pick
option A because it could not happen any other way. Different religions

the teaching practices and retention of new special education teachers?

Online tools/options
In recent years, technology has become recognized as an effective tool for providing learning and
collaboration opportunities for educators, particularly in rural area. The use of technology can
break down the barrier of distance and compensate for the lack of peers for teachers in rural district.
Researchers have found new teachers, including special education teachers can utilize various
forms and options to connect, learn, and receive support to increase their teaching skills resulting in
an increased retention rates. In Idaho local districts, the state department of education, and several
higher education institutes implemented a teacher preparatory program for special educators,
which incorporated online courses, field experiences throughout the teacher preparation program,
and collaboration time with trained mentors (Johnson, 2009). The research results indicated the
strong collaborative relationships and use online learning increases the effectiveness of special
education teachers and student learning

Southwest Airlines Tribulations Essay
Southwest Airlines has faced many tribulations in its short history. From beating out the
competition of well established airlines to creating one of the most successful airlines in U.S.
aviation history, Southwest has always had a roadblock. Its first major roadblock was airline
regulation. Southwest particularly wanted to deregulate the airline industry so that it could expand,
and participate in interstate commerce. Regulation of the airline industry, in its plainest sense, was
against the most basic American business principle: capitalism. Southwest fought for deregulation
and through the work of many other parties, the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 was signed into
law by President Carter. Southwest s first major hurdle was behind them, but little did they know
that its next was right around the corner. On January 13, 1974, the new Dallas Fort Worth
International Airport (DFW) became operational. With its new design, massive runways, and
terminals, DFW quickly became the poster child of the metropolitan area. DFW swiftly
overshadowed Dallas Love Field(DAL), reducing traffic from 7 million in 1973 to just 500,000 in
1974 (CITATION). Many airlines relocated from DAL to DFW; however, this was not enough for

The Use Of Disguise In Wilkie Collins The Moonstone
As the search for the culprit of the moonstone continues, the story is resumed by Franklin Blake
in Wilkie Collins The Moonstone. Sargent Cuff calls for Mr. Blake and says, Mr. Blake! look at
the man s face. It is a face disguised and here s proof of it! (Collins 447). It is then revealed that
It was Godfrey Ablewhite, disguised as a dark sailor (Collins 448). It seems to be no surprise that
it was he, a man whose mercenary motives slowly revealed, was the culprit of the moonstone.
Disguise, as it is used in this setting, is connected effortlessly to its definition in the Oxford English
Dictionary. The Oxford English Dictionarydefines disguise as: To alter the appearance of (anything)
so as to mislead or deceive as to it; to exhibit in a false light; to colour; to misrepresent (OED).
Godfrey concealed his true identity to deceive those around him and did in fact exhibit (himself) in
a false light by posing as a sailor and did also colour himself by posing in blackface. Veil, a
synonym of disguise, appears within the 1755 dictionary of Samuel Johnson and is defined as a
cover to conceal the face; a disguise (Johnson). Through this perspective, a disguise does not
always carry a negative connotation, but in this case, it was used as a means to deceive. Godfrey is
not very clever. His intent to pose as a sailor and direct the attention to the Indians by way of his
complexion did not work as he was taller than any of the Indians and his face was twice the breadth
of any of their faces at least (Collins 434). By doing so he directed the attention to himself. To be in
disguise is also to conceal or cloak the real state or character of (anything) by a counterfeit show or
appearance (OED) or to change the guise, or dress and personal appearance, of (anyone) so as to
conceal identity; to conceal the identity of by dressing as some one or in a particular garb (OED).
Godfrey s disguise figuratively and literally concealed (his) real character. As Sergeant cuff took
forcible possession of the dead man s black hair and washed off his complexion, Godfrey s literal
disguise was revealed. Figuratively, he was revealed as a fraud for having led a double life (Collins
447). He was

Missing Child Experiment
We are going to examine an experiment about a missing child. There will be a group of twenty
college students that we examine leading up to the missing child to experiment. In the
experiment tested, we will see that people fail to notice the world around them. This was seen in
the Missing Child experiment. The child was in eyesight, but the people did not even think to
look. These candidates did not take time to even look at the flyer they were shown. The person,
not noticing a missing person right next to the flyer placed in front of a store can be caused by
several factors, distractions, or even possible fears. All over the world, people are doing this
Missing Child Experiment, and it is astonishing what some of the factors were. One of the causes
mentioned on this experiment was that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It teaches the world, that we should not miss the little things like a sign on a door. Making time
to stop and breathe to read a flyer because that could be the next step to making a miracle happen.
A question that comes up is has the world become so lazy that they on purpose do not want to
read the life that is in front of them? Joe Navarro states this about one of the fellow people that
he had talked to almost twenty years ago, Gavin de Becker wrote The Gift of Fear (link is
external), in an effort to warn and educate us about being more observant and aware. He
encouraged us to look around and to listen to that that inner voice, which is really our limbic
brain telling us to be careful that something is wrong (Navarro). Unfortunately, that is so true. If
there is a prompting that comes up inside of us as a human being, what do we do about it? Most
people overlook it because they are not aware of that inner voice. The inner voice can be the form
of life sign that could save one of those millions of missing children we see all over the world

  • 2. American Imperialism Research Paper Nationalism is the ideology based on the foundation that the individual s loyalty and devotion to the selected nation is more important than other individual or group interests. There are many things that people are able to relate to and identify as being that can include; their culture, homeland, family, and/or religion. There is naturally a strong loyalty towards the place people were raised. However, that tends to bring enemies too because not everyone is born in the same place and it tends to bring competition on which place it better bringing rift to all around. Even though with all of the negatives that come with strong nationalism, I believe nationalism brings more good than bad in Europe, Japan, Russia, the United States. Europe s... Nationalism brought the United States freedom sooner than most other countries. There was a clear two party political system that did divide people into two belief systems, however it still gives them an independence in their choices. At the end of the day, the two major political systems still follow one goal: what is best for the USA? China is popularly known for its martial arts, famous landmarks (ex: Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors, Mount Everest etc.) and for its furry black and white creatures; the great Panda Bear. However, many people who haven t experienced this culture may not know much of its history and its ways. History of the Xia Dynasty: China s long history dates back to almost 5000 years ago and have a written past of 3000 years. In the 21st century China s first dynasty the Xia Dynasty was the first clan to set up a government and rule over China. The beginning of the Xia Dynasty started from the legendary Yu the Greatwho was known for controlling violent floods. In China many Chinese believe in the ways of Confucianism who believed that maintaining a healthy lifestyle starts at home. Confucius a Chinese philosopher and teacher created the 5 relationships: ruler to subject, father to son, older brother to younger brother, husband to wife, and senior friend to junior friend. This concept was to show respect in how you act or acted upon to others. 1 Child Policy: During the Han Dynasty when Han was in power, farming was essential to China. So Han encouraged families to have more children. However, this lead to overpopulation and China was becoming too populated. In the 1970s a policy was released called the one child policy which limits 1 child per family. If this law was disobeyed the government would suggest abortion or large fees to be paid, a pretty scary law for some families. This program was to hopefully lower and maintain the population rate in China. Now in 2016, families can have more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the commerce clause, the Federal government has the right to regulate commerce among the U.S. and foreign nations and some states. The commerce clause has led to great controversy for many years. The commerce clausegives congress authority to legislate in many areas or address a broad range of issues. The clause however does limit the congress to only the regulation of interstate commerce. The interstate commerce allows business to be conducted across the state lines. In 2010 Congress passed the Patients Protection and Affordable Care (ACA). A federal statue was signed into law by President Obama which aims to reform the U.S. health care system. The ACA was designed to expand health insurance coverage to millions of patients including mandatory coverage of preventative measures such as mammograms, while increasing access to health services and treatment. The law also seeks to provide quality measures and payment reform that aim to increase efficiencies and the quality of patients care. Supporters of the ACA and the individual mandate assert that the authority to require citizens to purchase health insurance is granted by the U.S. Constitution Commerce Clause, which authorizes Congress to regulate interstate commerce. However have you ever wondered what s knights of the past were really like? Maybe past knights weren t all about honor and loyalty. Maybe even some of them were villains in some kind of mixed up way. Well this can all be solved in researching Knights of the past and stories of Arthur. In the end you will learn that knights of the past and those of the Arthurian age were very similar. Knights have always interested me, but have you ever wondered if the stories were true? For example, we always see a man in silver armor graciously saving the princess in the end. However were there actually knights who did this or was it just... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knights wore many chains to protect themselves as well as metal plates. Back in the old times knights really were seen as the police of today. Except the chivalry code of loyalty sometimes made it hard for the knights. Since the knight must pledge to the Lord of his loyalty, he would have to whatever the Lord commands him to do. Sometimes a lord would go mad as a march hare with power and command his knight to do his bidding, however it is not the knights fault, for if he disobeyed the lord he could be killed or jailed for his disregards to an order. Many knights who could of been seen as a Knightly figure were not due to their lords inconsiderate behaviors. One of the best known knights in medieval times would have to be William Marshal. William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke is often referred to as the extravagant medieval knight who rose to prominence for his bravery in tournaments and warfare. He earlier entered the service of King Henry II, who made him a guardian to his eldest son in 1170. But during the revolt of Henry s sons, he remained loyal to the father and helped him put down the rebellion. When Richard the Lionheart became King of England, he kept Marshal at his side which turned out to be a very good idea. During his absence, Marshal prevented the King s brother John from seizing ... • 6. Disadvantages Of Job Fairs Job seekers typically search corporate websites first during the job search process. Posting jobs on company websites casts a broad net, capturing the interest of the largest possible talent pool. Potential employees are instantly exposed to company highlights, diversity information, employee benefits, and work life balance programs (Cascio, 2016). Career fairs are typically industry specific which automatically refines the talent pool. Most career fairs require an upfront participation fee however, companies can discern qualified candidates from unqualified candidates rather quickly and save an exorbitant amount of recruitment expenses (Career Trend, 2017). Also, this platform generates high applicant flow. External recruitment allows companies to choose from a talent pool who could have been recently trained or educated therefore having up to date knowledge and skills (Cascio, 2016). Because external candidates have not been exposed to office politics and office norms they are more likely to accept change and innovation (Cascio, 2016). Lastly, external recruitment provides a convenient way to satisfy job place diversity requirements through hiring minorities and women (Cascio, 2016). DISADVANTAGES OF RECRUITMENT ADVERTISING AND CAREER FAIRS Several issues arise due to the large talent pool attracted from posting open positions on company websites. • 7. Character Analysis Of Watchmen And Jimmy Corrig The... The superhero archetype is traditionally a staple of the comic book medium. The Golden Age of comics, a period of comic publishing between the 1930s and early 1950s, was rife with larger than life super human figures, who often served as an escape from the anxieties produced by war and everyday life. Superheroes like Superman, Batman, and Captain America function as cultural representations of idealism and the American Dream. However, representations of heroism in comic books has shifted significantly since the bright eyed idealism and Romanticism of the Golden Age. In the Modern Age of comic publishing, contemporary comics tend to appropriate, adapt, and deconstruct tropes from the Golden and Silver Age of comics. Ultimately,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The text is wrought with nihilism, cynicism, and multiple characters who are affected by the power of the abyss. The Comedian s big joke is that there is no point to anything, and he does not really care. It is not a particularly funny joke , but it ultimately speaks to the motif of nihilism within the comic. This sensation of nihilism is aligned with the corruption of the American Hero archetype. It is impossible to ignore the fact that the novel is constructed around a sort of alternative future/past, an alternate universe that functions within a political climate which exacerbates the tensions between America and other nations, as well as internally. There is a sort of anti Romanticism about this text that renders the characters more human, despite the fact that they are supposed to be the hero figures. The inclusion of Hollis Mason s Under The Hood, excerpts from a fictional extra textual element of the story prove that chronicle the first wave of vigilante heroes, reveals that even the initial Minutemen began to realize to what extent they were only people, especially when their roles as heroes are trumped by the advent of the superhero, new powerful entities that alter the course of history. The Piano Lesson There are many lessons to be taught in the world some are learned through experience some are learned in times of struggle others are passed down from generation to generation. Often times in literature the author seeks to teach you a lesson or a set of moral values throughout the passage. In the book The PianoLesson there are many different lessons and themes to be explored. In the story each character is relatable. People of today s society could stand to learn the lessons that each character brings. The story The Piano Lesson should continue to be a part of the English 12 curriculum because of lessons that can be retained from the play which are woman s place in society in the past from Berniece, The importance of family by Boy Willie... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second lesson that can be learned from Berniece goes beyond the importance of family it is the importance of ancestral history. The reason Berniece is so attached to the piano is the family history tied to it. When her grandparents were freed from slavery her grandfather died over stealing it. Then even past that her mother was obsessed with playing the piano and cleaned it everyday. She taught Berniece how to play piano on it and her mother used to say it filled her with great joy to hear Berniece play. But, after her mother died Berniece never played the piano again. In this scene Boy Willie yet again is trying to sell the piano. Berniece begins to defend saying, Look at this piano. Mama Ola polished this piano with her tears for seventeen years. For seventeen she rubbed on it till her hands bled. Then she rubbed the blood in. This is part of the reason Berniece is so attached to the piano which is the reason she will never allow Boy Willie to have the piano. Berniece s love for her ancestral history is what causes her to be so attached to piano and why she will always defend it. She at one point pulls a gun out on Boy Willie and says he won t take the piano over her dead body. In this scene which is basically the ending of the story as everything around her is caving in. Berniece has an epiphany to play the piano to cleanse all the surroundings of all trouble. The story goes, It is in this moment, from somewhere old, that Berniece realizes what she must do. She crosses to the piano. She begins to play. The song is found piece by piece. It is an old urge to song that is both a commandment and a plea. With repetition it gains strength. It is intended as an exorcism and a dressing for battle. A rustle of wind blowing across two continents. What ends up happening is it solves all the problems around her. It almost seems to ... Iraq claimed that Kuwait was a long time province from the 1800 s and early 1900s , whose lands belonged under control of Iraq, a so called province. Saddam Hussein also argued that Kuwait was pumping oil from an oil field that was on the border of the two countries and belonged to Iraq. Upon gaining control of Kuwait, Hussein was able to eliminate his previous debt to Kuwait and gain it s substantial oil wealth, roughly 10% of the worlds oil supply. So far Bush has followed through on his promise with the war in Afghanistan against the Taliban regime. Others are also displaying their understanding of the situation and are treading a great deal lighter in search of their causes to avoid being labeled as terrorists, as shown by the latest disarmament and return to the negotiating table by the Irish Republican Army. As the world watches, President Bush is now faced with enormous pressure to gain control of the Arab Israeli conflict. However, this situation is a difficult one. • 13. Symbolism In Whale Rider In the film Whale Rider, the whale represents life and death. The whale represents life because it is the mammal on which Paikea s great ancestor rode across the ocean reaching New Zealand which eventually became the settlement of the Maori people. The whale represents death because the Maori people would not be on the island they live on if Paikea the great ancestor had not ridden the whaleto the secluded island in the Pacific. The whale is not only a mean of transportation of the great ancestor but a symbolism of how their culture thrives just on their existence. The Maori people would not be alive on the island of New Zealandif it hadn t been for their great ancestor who was the original whale rider. • 16. John Keegan s The Face Of Battle John Keegan s The Face of Battle and Sir Charles Oman s The Art of War in the Middle Ages provide insight into how historians approach the subject of battle. When discussing warfare, historians typically approach the subject from a procedural point of view, but it has also become normal to focus on combatants experiences. By cross comparing Keegan and Oman s descriptions of the Battleof Agincourt, it is apparent that both the procedural method and the method of focusing on individuals have merit. However, Keegan and Oman s alternate depictions of the battle demonstrate how combining both perspectives give a more complete understanding of the past. Historical writings have evolved from procedural accounts of events to inquisitive reflections on combatants. Focusing on weapons, strategies and generals perspectives the procedural approach quickly provides in depth information, but often in a distorted way 1. It is important to remember a commander s actions and the events of their battles are often exaggerated to support current political goals . Alternately, a slightly more encompassing approach to warfare considers the conflict s decisiveness in addition to the battle s statistics and facts 1. That is to say, what influence did the battle have on future events and how were people s lives changed by it. Beyond these procedural approaches, modern historians now use a more inquisitive method that combines personal experiences and facts. This more inclusive method allows ... By the 21st century, its films has gone through many changes according to trends during those periods of time, especially with relationships between males and females. Men has always been prominent compared to the women in the movies. Women were displayed to be very dependent on male characters to come rescue them, no signs of independency are apparent until recent contemporary films. King Leopold II Of Belgium Characterized by ambition and restlessness from an early age, King Leopold II of Belgium utilized his desire to make a name for himself, while increasing his personal wealth and power, and deftly harnessed subterfuge in order to convince the Belgian government that his interests in Africa were philanthropic, all the while exploiting and deceiving the native peoples of the Congo. However, it was this same relentless ambition which would eventually lead to Leopold s being forced to sell his colonial holdings, as the moral limits of the observers and of participants in the king s imperial system were pushed to their breaking points. King Leopold II began his career on the world stage as a young individual leading an almost equally young nation. Much of his life was devoid of genuine human connections and emotion, and he ruthlessly pursued power and profits, likely in an attempt to fill this void. He went about this pursuit by modeling the nation which he so admired, Great Britain. He was entranced by its methods of imperialism, and he came to the conclusion, after investigating a multitude of other options, that Africa offered the most opportunities for his individual profit, as the majority of the wild lands on other continents had already been colonized by more influential European powers. After he came into power, Leopold broached the topic of a Belgium controlled colony in a much different manner than he had while his father was still king. Previously, Leopold was ... After writing the letter by hand, he got it typed, and it is not known whether he wanted the contents of the letter to reach the public eye at the time of writing or not. When Kafka asked his friend Max Brod to destroy his writings at his death, and Max Brods refusal to do so brought them to the world, this letter too was part of what he received, which was eventually published in its entirety in 1953. The Letter to his Father is a multi generic exercise in that it couples autobiography with the form of the letter, and relies on the strategies of the familychronicle to present perspectives on both the speaker and the subject through an ironic, critical lens. This letter is also one of the most accessible documentary that we have on Kafka himself, whose self scrutiny and analysis off his own situation as a sonoffers us insights into the way he saw his growth as an individual in circumstance that he considered difficult. As a literary example, on the other hand, the latter makes use of several conventions such as first person narratorial voice (for the impression of authenticity), anecdote (for historical contextualization), and flashback (for reference). Chopin uses birds, clothing, characters, language, and other symbols to support the theme of the story. This essay will focus on the symbolism of learning to swim in the sea and how Chopin intertwines this and a few other symbols with her main character Edna Pontellier. Most of the symbols Chopin employs in some way lead the reader back to the primary message of the novel; self discovery and independence are wonderful ideas, but in the late eighteen hundreds they can lead a woman outside of societal expectations, independence aloneness, but can also create a lot of strife and may lead her to solitude, depression, and suicide. According to the United States Supreme Court, per Brinegar v. United States, because many situations which confront officers in the course of executing their duties are more or less ambiguous, room must be allowed for some mistakes on their part. But the mistakes must be those of reasonable men, acting on facts leading sensibly leading to their conclusions of probability. (PoliceMag, 2007). The Fourth Amendment protects the citizens of the United States from unreasonable searches and seizures. (U.S. Const. amend. IV). Over the course of history, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of protecting the policeofficers from any liability. My focus will be on the good faith exception and the exigent circumstance. The Good Faith Exception First, the good faith exception protects law enforcement officers who had reasonable intentions, but made mistakes with their actions. The Supreme Court first introduced the good faith exception in United States v. Leon. When going up against the main antagonist your odds of survival rise substantially when you have the help of others to rely on. In my opinion, I would like to believe that we have free will because I would hope that my decisions are mine and not of some powerful overlord or an advanced civilization in a simulation. Over the years there have been many theories or speculations about free will. Some philosophers would define free will as the ability to do what we want to do . With this definition, we do have free will because most of the time we can do what we want. • 48. Southwest Airlines Tribulations Essay Southwest Airlines has faced many tribulations in its short history. From beating out the competition of well established airlines to creating one of the most successful airlines in U.S. aviation history, Southwest has always had a roadblock. Its first major roadblock was airline regulation. Southwest particularly wanted to deregulate the airline industry so that it could expand, and participate in interstate commerce. Regulation of the airline industry, in its plainest sense, was against the most basic American business principle: capitalism. Southwest fought for deregulation and through the work of many other parties, the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 was signed into law by President Carter. Southwest s first major hurdle was behind them, but little did they know that its next was right around the corner. On January 13, 1974, the new Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) became operational. With its new design, massive runways, and terminals, DFW quickly became the poster child of the metropolitan area. DFW swiftly overshadowed Dallas Love Field(DAL), reducing traffic from 7 million in 1973 to just 500,000 in 1974 (CITATION). • 49. The Use Of Disguise In Wilkie Collins The Moonstone As the search for the culprit of the moonstone continues, the story is resumed by Franklin Blake in Wilkie Collins The Moonstone. Sargent Cuff calls for Mr. Blake and says, Mr. Blake! look at the man s face. It is a face disguised and here s proof of it! (Collins 447). It is then revealed that It was Godfrey Ablewhite, disguised as a dark sailor (Collins 448). It seems to be no surprise that it was he, a man whose mercenary motives slowly revealed, was the culprit of the moonstone. Disguise, as it is used in this setting, is connected effortlessly to its definition in the Oxford English Dictionary. The Oxford English Dictionarydefines disguise as: To alter the appearance of (anything) so as to mislead or deceive as to it; to exhibit in a false light; to colour; to misrepresent (OED). Godfrey concealed his true identity to deceive those around him and did in fact exhibit (himself) in a false light by posing as a sailor and did also colour himself by posing in blackface. Veil, a synonym of disguise, appears within the 1755 dictionary of Samuel Johnson and is defined as a cover to conceal the face; a disguise (Johnson). Through this perspective, a disguise does not always carry a negative connotation, but in this case, it was used as a means to deceive. Godfrey is not very clever. His intent to pose as a sailor and direct the attention to the Indians by way of his complexion did not work as he was taller than any of the Indians and his face was twice the breadth of any of their faces at least (Collins 434). By doing so he directed the attention to himself. To be in disguise is also to conceal or cloak the real state or character of (anything) by a counterfeit show or appearance (OED) or to change the guise, or dress and personal appearance, of (anyone) so as to conceal identity; to conceal the identity of by dressing as some one or in a particular garb (OED). Godfrey s disguise figuratively and literally concealed (his) real character. As Sergeant cuff took forcible possession of the dead man s black hair and washed off his complexion, Godfrey s literal disguise was revealed. Figuratively, he was revealed as a fraud for having led a double life (Collins 447). He was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
