In The Laramie Project, written by members of the Tectonic theatre company, aims to
examine the Matthew Shepard murder through the use of theatre. Within the play,
there are several insights and moments that prove to be surprising, puzzling, useful,
new, and interesting.
Within the play, there are a variety of ways that the people of Laramie and those
outside of Laramie frame Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson, the murderers of
Matthew Shepard. I find the fact that the play is able to present how the American
people were able to frame them as outliers from society, yet still, acknowledge that
the two were manifestations of society surprising. In most texts aimed at the public,
the perpetrators of the Matthew Shepard murder are framed as being outliers, not
connected with the majority of society. The Laramie Project is able to demonstrate
that the pair are a reflection of societal prejudices through the use of contradictions of
characters. The playwrights would present a character that used language suggesting
that the behavior and attitudes of McKinney and Henderson were abnormal, then
contradict those statements using members of Laramie who were either scrutinized
by these prejudices or experienced similar ones. In creating these opposing
narratives, the play is able to share all the perceptions of Laramie, while still holding

Although, I was a Muslim Arab just like them, I felt out of place and different than

Brutus and Antony both had very good speeches and both presented them very
well. Both of their speeches had good examples of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. A
good example of Brutus using Ethos is when he tells the people to believe him
because of his honor and that they should also have respect for his honor. When
Antony first starts off his speech he doesn t tell the people to trust him. He simply
asks them to just lend him their attention and to listen to what he has to say. These
are both good examples of Ethos but I think that Antony would be more appealing to
the people. I think this because he doesn t just tell them to trust him because of what
he has done or because of his honor, but to just simply listen to what he has to say to

he slew his best friend for the good of Rome and for the good of the people. Also
some more examples of Pathos in Brutus speech is when he talks about how he has

This P/PC balance principle lies in the balance of production of desired results to

the P/PC balance is the essence of effectiveness: It s the definition and paradigm of
