THE DRAMATIC SIGNIFICANCE OF SICK CHARACTERS IN OLA ROTIMI S PLAYS Odia
Clement Eloghosa ABSTRACT In this paper, the sick characters are studied through the examination
of their dramatic significance and contributions to the development of Ola Rotimi s drama. Three
aspects of dramatic significance are identified in this paper and we argue that the sick: (1) act as
witness and help the healthy establish truth, (2) create crisis situations that stir up diverse emotions in
the audience, and finally, (3) heighten dramatic tension which boosts the degree of suspense in the
plays. I INTRODUCTION The paper examines the dramatic significance of sick characters in Ola
Rotimi s plays. It covers four of Rotimi s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He identifies collectivist consciousness as the defining factor which crystallizes Rotimi s advancement
of themes like solidarity, followership and self sufficiency. Femi Osofisan, Toyin Akinosho, Umukoro
et al and Effiok Uwatt have made cursory remarks on Rotimi s use of sick characters and these are
worth reviewing here. Osofisan, examining the political imperative in African dramaturgy and theatre
practice, makes some passing comments on the sick in Hopes, a play he considers as belonging to the
tradition of socialist theatre and posits that the aim of the sick in that play is to teach our masses the
virtue of collective struggle, the irrelevance of tribal differences in face of common economic
exploitation and the possibility of heroism among the poor and down trodden (5). On his part,
Akinosho, reviewing the performance of Rasheed Gbadamosi s Behold My Redeemer, a play directed
by Ola Rotimi, and which has a psychiatric setting, makes brief comments on Rotimi s portrayal of
sick characters. He says, As director and playwright, Ola Rotimi is known for using the sick to portray
the Nigerian Society (11). He adds that in Our Husband, the playwright uses the sick to paint the
Nigerian politician as a mad power seeker . Umukoro et al, examining the major events in The Gods,
briefly interpret the use of sickness in the play thus, The only real significance

Essay The Articles of Confederation
The articles of Confederation were the first attempt at a federal government for the United States.
They only lasted for about seven years (1781 1788) until they were they were thrown out and replaced
by the Constitution As a whole, they did not lay out a very strong or effective central government.
Some positive things were accomplished, but the biggest accomplishment of the Articles was that they
pointed put what would not work for the United States and they paved a was for the writing of the
Constitution. The Articles of Confederation started out as a radical plan for a strong central
government written by John Dickinson in 1776. By the time there were approved by Congress, the
Articles were an extremely watered down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This way, one single state would not have such heavy influence over all of the other states. In 1786,
there was a major even that made people question the Articles of Confederation. In rural, western
Massachusettes, there was a violent uprising of unhappy farmers led by Daniel Shays. They were
upset because of high taxes and they complained that the Massachusetts state government did not
really care about them. Although the federal government had the power to raise an army to stop the
thousands of farmers led by Shays, because they could not tax, they lacked sufficient funds, After
Shays s Rebellion, George Washington commented to James Madison that outbreaks such as Shays s
would pull state governments apart and eventually all of the state governments would crumble without
the support of a strong federalist central government. Eight years after Shays s Rebellion, there was a
similar rebellion in western Pennsylvania. In 1794, a group of farmers, angry because of unfair taxes
on distilled whiskey, rallied together and became a violent threat. This time, with the Constitution in
place, President Washington was able to call together a militia to disband the angry group of farmers.
This shows tat under the Articles and the Constitution, similar problems arose, but the government
under the Constitution was much better suited to deal with them than the government under the
Articles. Although there were clearly some shortcomings of the

ABSTRACT
Crime and corruption have become rampant today in our society and countless money is lost each year
due to white collar crime, fraud, and embezzlement.
This paper presents a technique of an ongoing work to combat white collar crime in telephone
transactions by identifying and verifying speakers using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). Results
are presented to show the potential of this technique.

Often after a long legal battle, the victims are left with a worthless judgement and no recovery.
One solution to avoid white collar crimes and shorten the lengthy time in locating and serving
perpetrators with a judgement is by the use of biometrics techniques for identifying and verifying
individuals. Biometrics are methods for recognizing a user based on his/her unique physiological
and/or behavioural characteristics. These characteristics include fingerprints, speech, face, retina, iris,
hand written signature, hand geometry, wrist veins, etc. Biometric systems are being commercially
developed for a number of financial and securit applications. Many people today have access to their
company s information systems by logging in from home. Also, internet services and telephone
banking are widely used by the corporate and private sectors. Therefore to protect one s resources or
information with a simple password is not reliable and secure in the world of today. The conventional
methods of using keys, access passwords and access cards are being easily overcome by people with
criminal intention.
Voice signals as a unique behavioral characteristics is proposed in this paper for speaker identification
and verification over short distance telephone lines using artificial neural networks. This will address
the white collar crimes over the telephone lines. Speaker identification [1] and verification [2] over

Service personnel experience a tremendous number of traumatic experiences while in service. These
traumatic experiences include situations such as different forms of explosion, gun battles, vehicle
crashes, helicopter crashes, intense fear, seeing fellow service members dying as well as a feeling of
helplessness (CITE). These are situations that an average American can simply not fathom. Certified
Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) who work with service personnel typically do understand
these traumatic experiences. In this article, Wilson and Pokorny conducted a study to understand the
experiences CRNAs have with service personnel who have traumatic brain injury (TBI) and
posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and are emerging from general anesthesia with emergence
delirium (ED) (CITE). There are no studies in literature that contain information on patients with these
specific problems, which makes this study important. Wilson and Pokorny hope other researchers will
get involved to help learn more about this subject and get the service personnel and CRNAs the
advanced medical help they need.

Thanksgiving Reflection Paper
In order to understand tradition one has to fully immerse themselves into a situation where tradition is
taking place. Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity to explore what it means to celebrate, the holiday
is an American holiday only and is celebrated in a multitude of different ways with an endless amount
of traditional flare that changes from family to family. I have many biases as to what the Thanksgiving
holiday looks like. Political rants, family members fighting over things from the past, children running
around creating chaos. I chose my family to observe because I wanted to gain somewhat of an outsider
perspective on what it was like to be around my family at the holidays. Obviously I have been going
to Thanksgiving with these same people my whole life but I wanted to be able to look at the gathering
in a different way and understand in a more significant way why the way my family celebrates may be
different from how I ve seen other people s families celebrate.
As I step toward the house that I have known my entire life I find myself inspecting every inch of the
outer areas. The pile of crunchy, dull colored leaves that had been pushed to a corner as if not to
interfere with the delicately arranged garden that surrounded the lands perimeter just along the
sidewalk. The flowers in the surrounding garden have all died and are merely brown branches
standing tall and spiked awaiting the spring season. The entryway walls are consumed with long
weaving branches all

Magazine Advertisements Send Unhealthy Signals to Young Women
British doctors yesterday called on the media to use female models with more realistically
proportioned bodies instead of abnormally thin women who contributed to the rise in the numbers of
people suffering from eating disorders.
A report by the British Medical Association claimed that the promotion of rake thin models such as
Kate Moss and Jodie Kidd was creating a distorted body image which young women tried to imitate.
It suggested that the media can trigger and perpetuate the disease.
Female models are becoming thinner at a time when women are becoming heavier, and the gap
between the ideal body shape and reality is wider than ever, said the report. There is a need for a more
realistic body shape to be shown on television and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The report points out that eating disorders are a mostly western phenomenon and that fewer Asian and
black women apparently suffer from them. It says that in young men, perceived body image is a
crucial factor in the onset of the illness .
The report adds: Advertising, in particular, may influence young people s perception of fashion and
beauty and attitudes towards food. Young women may compare themselves to extremely thin models,
working in the fashion industry or advertising products, and perceive themselves as fat in comparison,
rather than healthy and attractive.
In 1998, a survey by the Bread for Life campaign, cited by the Eating Disorders Association, showed
that 89% of women between 18 and 24 wanted more average sized models used in magazines.
Yesterday, however, the London based Premier agency, which represents Naomi Campbell and
Claudia Schiffer, said women who bought fashion magazines featuring thin models were as much to
blame as their editors and the advertisers who used them. Agencies, advertisers and magazines were
only responding to consumer demand.
Advertisers, magazines and agencies supply the image that consumers want to see, said a spokesman.
Statistics have repeatedly shown that if you stick a beautiful skinny girl on the cover of a magazine

Feminist Writers Like Kate Millet Essay
The traditional feminists want equal rights for woman with men. Traditional feminism is caught in the
dilemma of demanding equal treatment for unequal functions, because it is unwilling to challenge
political classification by sex. Radical women, on the other hand grasp that women as a group
somehow fit into a political analysis of society. Radical feminism is a perspective within feminism
that calls for a radical reordering of society in which male supremacy is eliminated in all and
economical contexts by challenging existing social norms and institution. Radical feminism has been
extremely important in developing and analyzing woman s oppression. The concept of patriarchy
which has been developed within feminist writing has a whole variety of different meaning At the
most general Patriarchy has been used to refer to the male domination and to the power relationship by
which men dominates women. Radical feminist writers like Kate Millet, who has been focuses solely
upon the system of male domination and subordination. The concept of patriarchy in sexual politics
attempts to analyze the autonomous basis of the oppression of women in all forms of society and to
provide a theoretical justification for the autonomy of feminist politics. Kate Millet s Sexual Politics
represents one of the first theoretical attempt to focus the specific nature of women s oppression
within the contemporary women s movement. To Millet focuses the power relationship between men

Semiotics In That 70s Show
Introduction Semiotics can be defined as the study of symbols and signs particularly with regard to
how they are used to create meaning and communicate it to others. Semiotics also offers tools that
make it possible to uncover the cultural conventions and codes that highlight the period to which a
setting was placed and interpret meanings behind the symbols (Berger, 2014). In the pilot episode of
That 70s Show , it is possible to apply semiotic analysis since there are various signs and symbols that
reveal different elements of the show. Different signifiers in the episode and what they portray helps
the audience to interpret the message that the producer is trying to convey. That 70s Show has a large
presence of signs, signifiers, codes and ideologies that relate to teenage relationships and their lives in
general during the 1970s. Additionally, it is important to highlight character placement and the
semiotics involved pertaining to the viewers.
Parents son relationship The character Eric and his father form an important conflict in the storyline.

Similarities Between The Wife s Bath And The Pardoners Tale
Throughout The Canterbury Tales, there are many different tales with many different plot lines. In The

African American Civil War And The Period Of Reconstruction
After the Civil War and the period of Reconstruction there were many political, social and economic
changes which continued to affect the society. The role of African Americans in society changed after
the abolishment of slavery. This new freedom and opportunities were not much greater than before
when slavery existed. Despite reconstruction efforts, African Americans faced discrimination. Society
as a whole was altered extensively at this time.
After the civil war, political changes affected African American lives significantly. African Americans
were freed of slavery by the 13th amendment and the 14th amendment guaranteed their citizenship,
Everyone born or naturalized in the US were granted citizenship and were equal under the law (Doc

Though they were free, they had nowhere to go and no money to spend, They were sent away empty
handed, without money, without friends, and without a foot of land to stand upon (Doc 2). Former
owners used their power to place limitations on emancipation. The former slaves had to end up
working for their former masters and borrowing land/money from them. As many people disagreed
with the decision of the 13th amendment, many hate groups started to appear. Most commonly known
group was the KKK founded Tennessee, 1865 ( Ku Klux Klan, n.d.). They took it upon themselves to

Benefits And Benefits Of Employee Employees
perform each job. While training each employee in each area is time consuming it has many benefits
to the employees and to the business. By allowing employees to rotate though the different jobs in the
restaurant it helps prevent employee burn out in some of the higher stress areas of the business. The
cash register is one of these areas; employees are expected to have a constant outgoing, happy
appearance with customers and having to deal with the never ending calls for takeout increases stress.
On the other hand it allows for increased flexibility and shift coverage for the business owner. For
instance, if one employee calls out sick and that employee were scheduled to be the pizza maker for
that night, it would be relatively easy to shift another worker or call someone in to cover that position.
This increased flexibility takes stress off of the business owner and the employees. The owner also
does a good job at trying to give employees the opportunity for job enlargement; he allows employees
to come up with specialty pizzas not on the menu for the week, and whichever employee has the
bestselling pizza at the end of the month gets some kind of bonus. By allowing employees to use their
creativity it keeps them involved and caring for the business; which in turn improves the bottom line
and efficiency of the company.
The design and structure that an owner uses in structuring their business can also affect how
employees view the business, positive or negative. The

Memory Management Challenges And Alogrithm for Traditional Memory Mapping
Abstract:
According to the need of real time systems many algorithm have been use to allocate memory
efficiently Real time system may crash if they do not get memory on priority or request memory loss
can also be prevented by using memory allocation algorithm our goal is to focus on traditional
memory management algorithm according to their efficiency and their response time to recognize the
problem and limitation and challenges that occurs problem which may reduce the performance of real
time system. This research paper will help you in determining the real time memory management
algorithm technique the latency rate and problem.
Introduction:
Efficient Memory management is performed by modern operating system and still working for
efficient memory allocation for application because the main stuff is to provide required memory
block for application with minimum memory loss as compared to the traditional memory allocation
which is known as Memory Fragmentation which keep the records of those block that are free and
those that are allocated to tasks. For the purpose memory allocation designs are being used for
example: Static Memory Allocation, Dynamic Memory Allocation describe in Fig: 1

is the most common cause of too much GH production: Pituitary tumors. Most cases of acromegaly
are caused by a noncancerous tumor of the pituitary gland. Secretion of excessive amounts of growth
hormone causes the signs and symptoms of acromegaly. Symptoms such as headaches and impaired
vision are resultant of the tumor mass pressing on nearby brain tissues. Tumors in other parts of the
body, such as the lungs, pancreas or adrenal glands can also cause acromegaly in few people. These
tumors are from non pituitary origin which sometimes secrete GH. In some cases, the tumors produce
a hormone called growth hormone releasing hormone (GH RH) which stimulates the pituitary to make

Belly Dancing History
Dancing is not just a hobby, dance illustrates many aspects of one s life. Dance develops control
balance, posture and focus. It is a nonverbal way of communicating to an audience. Dances tell
stories, express moods and most importantly Is the core of culture. Dancing helps people of a culture
show and express their customs.
One of the oldest forms of dance is belly dancing. Tracing its history all the way back to the Middle
East, Mediterranean and northeastern Africa, this dance originated as a fertility ritual. Sisters and
friends of the women giving birth would assist the mother by performing this dance. While
performing this dance the women would sway their hips side to side in a snake like motion, while their
arms were either together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Americans became very fascinated by this new form of dance that they had never seen. Many people
got a hold of this dance and began to start performing it. The evolution of belly dance has changed in
many ways but has also remained the same throughout the many centuries and countries it has been
performed. It is enjoyed by many people and many different cultures. It still offers a community all of
ages and aids women in gaining self confidence and self empowerment. When belly dance was
originated it was used as an aid for birth and to calm the pain. A very famous performer Shakira who
Is a Columbian singer and dancer has aided in popularizing belly dancing. In many of her music
videos she performed this dance and anytime I think of belly dancing I automatically associate it with
Shakira. Cultural appropriation is when something is taken from a culture and performed by someone
else with out crediting where it originated from. In many of her music videos Shakira performs this
dance and is wearing the beaded skirt with the short cropped top. By Shakira performing this dance
and popularizing it she did not express where it originated and the true meaning behind this dance.
Many people then associate this dance with Spain and Columbia because that is where Shakira is
from. The true origin of this dance comes from the middle east and is mistaken by many people
because of how popular Shakira created it to

Similarities And Differences Of The Three Rondavels
The comparison between the three Rondavels and the Three Sisters
1 Introduction
The three Rondavels in Mpumalanga and the Three Sisters in Northern Cape are geographical
landforms that are similar but found in two different provinces. In this essay differences and
similarities in appearance, structure, location, geology and climate of these landforms will be
discussed.
2 The Three Rondavels description
The Three Rondavels are located in the Blyde River Canyon region Anon (2006). These Three
Rondavels are round mountains with peaks that are formed in a shape of an African Hut. They attained
this shape as a result of erosion agents. The soft rocks that are found on the upper surface are removed
leaving the tough rocks such as quartzite shown, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
4.2 Structure
Both of the landforms have three head like structure that are made out of the sedimentary rock
Williams and Marsh (2009:391). They both contain the resistant rocks dolerite and quartzite, which
are hard to erode. (Jasper Stefan, 2015:14)
4.3 Location They Three Sisters and Three Rondavels are both found in South Africa and are
geotourism. These places are surrounded by lodging industries that serves as tourism attraction and
make income.
4.4 Geology
Both of these geographical landforms have the peaks that are resistance to erosion and they are formed
as soft rocks and soils got washed away on the upper surface. The three Rondavels have tough slate
and quartzite . (Jasper Stefan, 2015:14). The Three Sisters consists of dolerite, making it impossible to
get eroded easily on the top, and they both have the soft rocks at the sides that can be easily eroded
giving them the three round peaks.
4.5 Climate
The two landforms are similar but have different climate conditions. This is because they experience
different temperatures and rainfall. The Three Rondavels are in a more arid place and they tend to be
dry. They receive less rainfall and have high temperatures. The Three Sisters are in the subtropical
experiencing wet and humid climate

Starbucks Case Analysis Essay
I ve chosen the Starbucks Corporation on which to do my case assignment for the session. I first
became interested in Starbucks while working on a paper for a previous marketing class. I became
intrigued at the entrepreneurial spirit that such a large corporation had managed to maintain
throughout its massive expansion. Starbucks corporation, unlike many of its now defunct rivals, has
done an outstanding job since its meager beginnings in 1970 with the execution of its strategic
process; resulting in it currently owning 40% of the specialty coffee market and boosting annual sales
exceeding $7 billion according to Burt Helm. Historic successes and recent turmoil within the

Essentially what Falletta is saying is that by determining what or where an organization is at, as far as
infrastructure, procedures, leadership, etc. its leadership can determine what changes need to be made
to achieve the desired objectives. Another important benefit of conducting analysis is that Diagnosis
confirms that a problem actually exists (Faletta 3). In conducting such an analysis, a business can
search out the underlying or root causes and then use this information to inform members on how to
make the necessary changes. A third point to consider is to look at the business as one whole entity
and not the sum of its individual parts. Faletta states that business analysis should occur similar to the
medical profession in which a physician takes a holistic view of the patient. They do not simply look
at a runny nose and bad cough and think that there must be a problem with the individual s nose and
lungs. They look at all symptoms, how they are related, and what course of action is required to
remedy all associated symptoms of a common cold. A final important reason to conduct analysis is to
determine if the changes made to the organization are actually working. Mavis Gallant once stated,
Success can only be measured in the terms of distance traveled . Such is the case with business, unless
the business knows its starting point, it can have no way to determine if it s

The Success Of The Doomsday Machine
In Diplomacy, authored by Henry Kissinger, the lack of respect to the differing the balance of power
principles in separate countries of europe Europe, the bullying strategies by Germany, the poor
diplomatic alliances of Germany, Austria, France, Britain and Russia, and the lack of understanding of
differing Military policies by Germany all lead to the Doomsday Machine. The Doomsday Machine
was made up of all the actions that resulted in the ripping apart of the diplomatic alliances, with each
alliance having too much at stake to permit the Concert of Europe diplomacy to function. Instead, the
Concert of Europe and its ideas about the balance of power were abolished. Kissinger mainly
discusses the multiple diplomatic alliances that led to the inevitable breakout of war. Most of the
conflicts could have been avoided, but many of the leaders of the European countries, mainly
Germany and Russia, seemed not to consider the long term implications of their decisions. Germany s
actions started diplomatic disputes with France, Britain, and Russia. The three countries inherently
formed an alliance with each other and isolated Germany in Europe. On the part of Russia, their main
objective seemed to start a war instead of look for peace or seek a compromise. The leaders were often
unwilling to politically negotiate because they had much of their own land and activities on the
Eastern front, and therefore almost nothing to lose. The Territorial problems presented in the Treaty of

The Culture And Ethos Of The Surrounding Community Essay
Introduction Since the beginning of history stadiums have been used as a gathering point for nations
and its populace to enjoy events and festivals. Early examples of stadia can be seen through the
famous Roman Coliseum in Rome, where gladiators battled for their freedom and the trivial Globe
Theatre in London where Shakespeare s works were performed. In today s society, stadia have
evolved to become massive multi purpose stadiums that have helped to define and identify the culture
and ethos of the surrounding community. With societies push to more of an entertainment culture,
more and more stadia are being built in order to accommodate the popularity of sports, music,
comedy, and drama. This increase in attendance and popularity has caused stadia today to become
highly intricate, requiring millions and sometimes billions of dollars to be used in order to create a not
only massive, but also safe atmosphere where people can gather to enjoy their chosen spectacle. The
innovation of today s new stadia requires and depends on proper management and operations. This
comes in the form of certain characteristics and techniques, which if used properly can help to lead to
the overall success of the stadium. In this analysis, I will discuss the essential characteristics for stadia
management, as well as compare and contrast two major stadia in today s world in order to get a better
understanding of their practical application.

Jump Ship To Freedom Book Report
What is a human life worth? To some it s priceless, and to others nothing at all. As humans we tend
not to think about it and just live, it s what we do. In the past however, it was a different story, the
world is completely different now. Life used to be much harder than it currently is, especially for
African Americans. In the book Jump Ship to Freedom by authors Christopher Collier and James
Lincoln Collier, you get a deep look into the life of an African American slave child named Daniel
Arabus. Daniel wishes to complete his father s goal of buying himself and his mother s freedom, so he
ends up risking his whole life for soldiers notes that could ultimately be worth absolutely nothing.
Though the events are fictionalized, this book shows the readers what life would ve been like after the
American Revolution. The story transpires in early May of 1787 on a plantation in Stratford,
Connecticut. Taking place not long after the American Revolution, the government wasn t quite set up
yet, which plays an important role in the book. The United States had not defined itself yet. Though
the country had won its war for independence, it lacked the unity and organization that it needed in

ENGINEERING COLLEGE Abstract:
In this paper, we focus the Flow Control for traceback that will minimize the amount of packets
required for build up the attack path. Flow control based mechanism merged with Uniform
Probabilistic Packet Marking (UPPM), the stream of packets can be controlled that suggests the
amount of packets checked by UPPM will get reduce there by decreasing the convergence time. Then
again, this strategy should bring about full traceback on an attacker. Keywords:
Ip traceback, Network Security, Packet Marking, Autonomous System, Convergence Time
Introduction
IP traceback suggests the capacity of perceiving the genuine wellspring of any packet sent over the
Internet. By virtue of the shortcoming of the first blueprint of the Internet, we will be not able to find
the genuine developers at present. To be completely frank, IP traceback arrangements are seen as
productive if they can perceive the zombies from which the DDoS attack packets entered the Internet.
Various techniques to tracebak the start of the attack including link testing, controlled flooding, ICMP
traceback and different packet marking methodologies. Packet marking techniques are used as a piece
of this paper. Packet marking means

Constraints In Negotiations
Introduction
In any negotiation process, there are always constraints involved and decision making process
involves an analysis of the gains and tradeoffs one has to go through to reach the best optimal solution
Decision making process is not just a psychological process as perceived by many but more of a game
theory because both the bidder and the negotiator are faced by various constraints, which both have to
develop a model with both constraints and targets and later iterate to obtain an optimum solution Here,
again, BATNA (best alternative to a negotiated agreement) comes into play; both parties must go for a
sacrifice. None gets exactly what he wants but goes for a better alternative. The opportunity cost of
leaving the job must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates a dynamic whereby the party that supplies others with rewards obligates them to pay back
in some way,as failure to do so creates an incentive for such a party to withhold such rewards and only
supply them to individuals who will refund it for its troubles. Thus, we can observe that increasing one
s potential to supply rewards to an interaction (i.e., improving one s contribution) can heighten an
individual s power through increasing his level of benefits that can be obtained from the association.
With the objective to the attainment goal, negotiators here are motivated to maximize their utility
subject to constraints, which is accomplished through orienting instructions (e.g., maximize the points
earned in the negotiated solution ) and the rewards (e.g., payment will be based on the points earned in
the negotiated solution. ). As a consequence, the attainment goals, and the operators generating
outcomes that tend to move towards the goal, have an influence on the search for solutions. However,
this agreement goal may alter the search for solutions that occur within the fundamental problem
space. More specifically, as solutions tend to unfold, they must incorporate aspects of search by the
other parties the duo mutually inform and also constrain one

I was a little nervous about not only trying to perform the Stunning Spell, but also having this spell

Once my partner was ready and stood surrounded by cushions, I raised my wand and brought it back
down in a quick slashing motion, Stupefy! . As a flash of blue light left my wand towards my partner,
she immediately fell backwards onto the cushions. I found it quite difficult to focus on making the

Now we moved onto practicing the counters. Seeing as we had all tried the spells, we decided it was
only fair that we all practiced the counters as well.
First, one of my partners performed the Stunning Spell to our other partner and allowed me to practice
the counter. Once our partner was on the ground, I pointed my wand straight at her chest and said
Rennervate . As the bright red light shot from my wand, I kept focusing on her waking up and sitting
up. After a few seconds she did just that, which I was thankful for as my focus was starting to waver a
little.
When it came to the Full Body Bind Curse Counter, I volunteered to be the one that needed it. I tried
to fight the curse as it hit me, but there was no way to and I was on the floor in seconds. Laying there I
heard one of my partners say Petrificus Removere and I could see his wand move in a clockwise
motion before the golden mist started to wrap itself around me. I could feel my muscles start to relax
from my toes upwards through my whole body until I was eventually able to move and sit up.

Laundry Detergents As A Cleansing Agent
Introduction
Laundry detergents are a cleansing agent that is widely used in the industry to clean laundry. The term
detergent refers to mixtures of chemical compounds including Alkyl Sulphonates, which are similar to
soap but less affected by hard water (Farlex, 2014). Like soap, detergent increases the ability of water
to penetrate fabric and break down greases and dirt, however they are derived from organic acids
rather than fatty acids (Mifflin, 2005). A detergent is an ion or molecule that contains both polar and
nonpolar components. The polar component allows the detergent to dissolve in the water, whereas the
nonpolar component solubilizes greasy materials that are the usual target of the cleaning process.
Their molecules then surround the particles of grease and dirt, allowing them to be carried away thus
leaving your clothes clean. This EEI explores the performance of two different laundry powders (Fab
and Woolworths select Home brand) in different types of water; ranging from soft to hard. These
detergents were compared and analysed in different types of water from varying locations to
determine whether water hardness has an effect on the cleaning ability of detergents, and whether
products should be specifically formulated depending on the type of water.

Laundry detergents such as Fab and Woolworths Select Home brand are composed of many elements
that each play important roles in the laundry process depending on the cleaning tasks

The Disney Film Version Of Alice
The Disney film version of Alice in wonderland when compared to the The novel Alice in wonderland
by Carroll Lewis, expresses a variety of changes which can alter ideological values. Disney is well
known for taking classic stories and fabricating them for a wider audience. This form of fabrication
can be beneficial, especially in regards to creating various messages that are intended to be perceived
by audiences. Other instances the changes are small and less note worthy. The images left out by
Disney alter the ideologies that are expressed. Much of the Disney film version is quite consistent with
the book, with the addition of certain aspects added from Alice through the looking glass. One crucial
alteration added to the Disney film version is the implication that Alice created wonderland; why in
my world cats and rabbits would reside in fancy houses (Disney). As seen in the first scene when Alice
is singing to herself. This crucial addition to the Disney film version of Alice in wonderland changes
overall themes of the film. It introduces the stresses Alice is dealing with, and her strategy to cope
with these strategies. Alice uses wonderland as a form of escapism to avoid social constructs, which
ultimately allows for growth. The pressures of society can apply an overwhelming strain on
individuals. In particular, girls. The visual appearance of Alice in the Disney film version is slightly
altered from the novel. In the Disney film Alice appears to be a young lady of

Emily Dickinson s Poetry And Poetry
Emily Dickinson s poems They shut me up in Prose and I Dwell in Possibility on the surface may
seem similar, both having the same structure, three four lined stanzas, and punctuation. However, they
convey different messages. Typically Dickinson writes dark, meditative and defiant toned poems
about death, gender and poetry itself, often challenging social beliefs and traditions. Each poem sticks
to these pre modernist views and styles, but place the emphasis on different aspects of her common
themes. Although the poems are similar in form and their uses of metaphors, the focus of these poems
are different, I dwell in Possibility focuses on the limitless possibilities of poetry and the power
associated with it, while They shut me up in Prose discusses the role of a female poet being free of
social restraints in a mans world through poetry, together these individual themes convey Dickinson s
emphatic view of poetry s ability to free women from social prejudices.
In I dwell in Possibility Emily Dickenson compares poetry to prose in the first few lines. Prose is
written in the normal syntax of everyday conversation. It has no metrical structure, as well; it is
tedious and lacks expression. After the first two lines however, prose is not mentioned any further.
This could possibly be because there is not much left to desired in prose or Dickinson is refraining
from giving prose any further recognition. To Dickinson, poetry is limitless in possibilities, which she

Essay on Mendin Wall
Walls Have Two
In Robert Frost amp;#8217;s amp;#8220;Mending Wall, ; he shows a man views about a wall. The
man names both pros and cons of having the wall. He also hints at how a wall might affect a particular
society. The poem is a conversation between two neighbors on either side of a wall. The main speaker
amp;#8217;s conversation shows his views about the purpose of the wall, and it amp;#8217;s
effectiveness to either bring people together, or it amp;#8217;s tendency to separate them.

But since the wall needs repairing every spring the two neighbors have reason to be together. Though
the two don amp;#8217;t speak much about meaningful things they are still together. And maybe this
is why the second speaker thinks that amp;#8220;Good fences make good neighbors ; (27).
The speaker contradicts his early view of the wall amp;#8217;s ability to bring people together when
he shows how the wall separates people. He demonstrates this when he says, amp;#8220;And set the
wall between us once again we keep the wall between us as we go ; (14). Even at the time when the
two are mending the wall there is no conversation about each of their personal lives. Instead all that
they talk about is the object that separates them, the wall. The wall seems to take away from them
becoming more knowledgeable about each other amp;#8217;s lives, which often hinders a friendship.
The speaker also refers to a wall as giving separation through offense when he says, amp;#8220;And
to whom I was like to give offense ; (34).
This poem offers a holistic view of a wall and it amp;#8217;s affect on neighbors. This aspect of the
poem allows the reader to decide on the need for a wall. Walls serve many purposes in society like
boundaries, defense, and offense. But should society as a whole let wall separate itself from one

Cons Of Genetic Engineering
Food, pesticides, pharmaceuticals and insect control are among a few of the different avenues of
Genetic Engineering (GE). One sad truth associated with genetic engineering is the lack of adequate
testing to assure the health and well being of society and the environment. The companies that hold
the GE patents and our government seem to more concerned with profits, than that of human life and
the effects on the environment. In this day and age, illnesses and other forms of aliments of our
society are multiplying at alarming rates. Drug manufactures, in such a hurry to get their latest drugs
to market, little, if any, testing is being done to assure that the drugs themselves are safe for human
consumption. The risks of GE unknowns, far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any severe environmental stress such as drought and global warming can trigger unpredictable
changes to engineered crops. It is this combination of unpredictability and ignorance that led Dr. Barry
Commoner, one of our nation s most eminent biologists, to conclude: The genetically engineered
crops now being grown represent a massive uncontrolled experiment whose outcome is inherently
unpredictable. The results could be catastrophic. (Commoner) Allergies are often overlooked,
especially when weighed against the potential benefits of a new drug. Yet they affect a large number
of people (about 2.5% of American adults and 6 8% of children, or 8 million in the U.S.), and the
incidence of allergies has been rising in recent years for unknown reasons. Reactions are not limited to
watery eyes; some experience intense itching and welts, others life threatening anaphylactic shock,
which kills an estimated 150 Americans each year. If a plant grown drug with allergenic properties
were to contaminate the food supply, unsuspecting individuals prone to allergies would be unable to
take any action to avoid consuming the contaminated food, with potentially fatal consequences.
People susceptible to food allergies, without proper labeling have no knowledge of what they are
actually consuming; therefore, they could possibly be endangering their lives by eating foods that they
are highly allergic to. The Federal Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (1966), for

THE DRAMATIC SIGNIFICANCE OF SICK CHARACTERS IN OLA ROTIMI S PLAYS Odia Clement Eloghosa ABSTRACT In this paper, the sick characters are studied through the examination of their dramatic significance and contributions to the development of Ola Rotimi s drama. Three aspects of dramatic significance are identified in this paper and we argue that the sick: (1) act as witness and help the healthy establish truth, (2) create crisis situations that stir up diverse emotions in the audience, and finally, (3) heighten dramatic tension which boosts the degree of suspense in the plays. He identifies collectivist consciousness as the defining factor which crystallizes Rotimi s advancement of themes like solidarity, followership and self sufficiency. Femi Osofisan, Toyin Akinosho, Umukoro et al and Effiok Uwatt have made cursory remarks on Rotimi s use of sick characters and these are worth reviewing here. Osofisan, examining the political imperative in African dramaturgy and theatre practice, makes some passing comments on the sick in Hopes, a play he considers as belonging to the tradition of socialist theatre and posits that the aim of the sick in that play is to teach our masses the virtue of collective struggle, the irrelevance of tribal differences in face of common economic exploitation and the possibility of heroism among the poor and down trodden (5). On his part, Akinosho, reviewing the performance of Rasheed Gbadamosi s Behold My Redeemer, a play directed by Ola Rotimi, and which has a psychiatric setting, makes brief comments on Rotimi s portrayal of sick characters. He says, As director and playwright, Ola Rotimi is known for using the sick to portray the Nigerian Society (11). He adds that in Our Husband, the playwright uses the sick to paint the Nigerian politician as a mad power seeker . Umukoro et al, examining the major events in The Gods, briefly interpret the use of sickness in the play thus, The only real significance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They only lasted for about seven years (1781 1788) until they were they were thrown out and replaced by the Constitution As a whole, they did not lay out a very strong or effective central government. Some positive things were accomplished, but the biggest accomplishment of the Articles was that they pointed put what would not work for the United States and they paved a was for the writing of the Constitution. This way, one single state would not have such heavy influence over all of the other states. In 1786, there was a major even that made people question the Articles of Confederation. In rural, western Massachusettes, there was a violent uprising of unhappy farmers led by Daniel Shays. They were upset because of high taxes and they complained that the Massachusetts state government did not really care about them. Although the federal government had the power to raise an army to stop the thousands of farmers led by Shays, because they could not tax, they lacked sufficient funds, After Shays s Rebellion, George Washington commented to James Madison that outbreaks such as Shays s would pull state governments apart and eventually all of the state governments would crumble without the support of a strong federalist central government. Eight years after Shays s Rebellion, there was a similar rebellion in western Pennsylvania. In 1794, a group of farmers, angry because of unfair taxes on distilled whiskey, rallied together and became a violent threat. This time, with the Constitution in place, President Washington was able to call together a militia to disband the angry group of farmers. This shows tat under the Articles and the Constitution, similar problems arose, but the government under the Constitution was much better suited to deal with them than the government under the Articles. These traumatic experiences include situations such as different forms of explosion, gun battles, vehicle crashes, helicopter crashes, intense fear, seeing fellow service members dying as well as a feeling of helplessness (CITE). These are situations that an average American can simply not fathom. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) who work with service personnel typically do understand these traumatic experiences. • 7. Thanksgiving Reflection Paper In order to understand tradition one has to fully immerse themselves into a situation where tradition is taking place. Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity to explore what it means to celebrate, the holiday is an American holiday only and is celebrated in a multitude of different ways with an endless amount of traditional flare that changes from family to family. I have many biases as to what the Thanksgiving holiday looks like. Political rants, family members fighting over things from the past, children running around creating chaos. I chose my family to observe because I wanted to gain somewhat of an outsider perspective on what it was like to be around my family at the holidays. Obviously I have been going to Thanksgiving with these same people my whole life but I wanted to be able to look at the gathering in a different way and understand in a more significant way why the way my family celebrates may be different from how I ve seen other people s families celebrate. As I step toward the house that I have known my entire life I find myself inspecting every inch of the outer areas. The pile of crunchy, dull colored leaves that had been pushed to a corner as if not to interfere with the delicately arranged garden that surrounded the lands perimeter just along the sidewalk. The flowers in the surrounding garden have all died and are merely brown branches standing tall and spiked awaiting the spring season. The entryway walls are consumed with long weaving branches all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Magazine Advertisements Send Unhealthy Signals to Young Women British doctors yesterday called on the media to use female models with more realistically proportioned bodies instead of abnormally thin women who contributed to the rise in the numbers of people suffering from eating disorders. A report by the British Medical Association claimed that the promotion of rake thin models such as Kate Moss and Jodie Kidd was creating a distorted body image which young women tried to imitate. It suggested that the media can trigger and perpetuate the disease. The report points out that eating disorders are a mostly western phenomenon and that fewer Asian and black women apparently suffer from them. It says that in young men, perceived body image is a crucial factor in the onset of the illness . The report adds: Advertising, in particular, may influence young people s perception of fashion and beauty and attitudes towards food. Young women may compare themselves to extremely thin models, working in the fashion industry or advertising products, and perceive themselves as fat in comparison, rather than healthy and attractive. In 1998, a survey by the Bread for Life campaign, cited by the Eating Disorders Association, showed that 89% of women between 18 and 24 wanted more average sized models used in magazines. Yesterday, however, the London based Premier agency, which represents Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer, said women who bought fashion magazines featuring thin models were as much to blame as their editors and the advertisers who used them. Agencies, advertisers and magazines were only responding to consumer demand. Advertisers, magazines and agencies supply the image that consumers want to see, said a spokesman. • 9. Feminist Writers Like Kate Millet Essay The traditional feminists want equal rights for woman with men. Traditional feminism is caught in the dilemma of demanding equal treatment for unequal functions, because it is unwilling to challenge political classification by sex. Radical women, on the other hand grasp that women as a group somehow fit into a political analysis of society. Radical feminism is a perspective within feminism that calls for a radical reordering of society in which male supremacy is eliminated in all and economical contexts by challenging existing social norms and institution. Radical feminism has been extremely important in developing and analyzing woman s oppression. The concept of patriarchy which has been developed within feminist writing has a whole variety of different meaning At the most general Patriarchy has been used to refer to the male domination and to the power relationship by which men dominates women. Radical feminist writers like Kate Millet, who has been focuses solely upon the system of male domination and subordination. The concept of patriarchy in sexual politics attempts to analyze the autonomous basis of the oppression of women in all forms of society and to provide a theoretical justification for the autonomy of feminist politics. By allowing employees to rotate though the different jobs in the restaurant it helps prevent employee burn out in some of the higher stress areas of the business. The cash register is one of these areas; employees are expected to have a constant outgoing, happy appearance with customers and having to deal with the never ending calls for takeout increases stress. On the other hand it allows for increased flexibility and shift coverage for the business owner. For instance, if one employee calls out sick and that employee were scheduled to be the pizza maker for that night, it would be relatively easy to shift another worker or call someone in to cover that position. This increased flexibility takes stress off of the business owner and the employees. The owner also does a good job at trying to give employees the opportunity for job enlargement; he allows employees to come up with specialty pizzas not on the menu for the week, and whichever employee has the bestselling pizza at the end of the month gets some kind of bonus. By allowing employees to use their creativity it keeps them involved and caring for the business; which in turn improves the bottom line and efficiency of the company. Essentially what Falletta is saying is that by determining what or where an organization is at, as far as infrastructure, procedures, leadership, etc. its leadership can determine what changes need to be made to achieve the desired objectives. Another important benefit of conducting analysis is that Diagnosis confirms that a problem actually exists (Faletta 3). In conducting such an analysis, a business can search out the underlying or root causes and then use this information to inform members on how to make the necessary changes. A third point to consider is to look at the business as one whole entity and not the sum of its individual parts. Faletta states that business analysis should occur similar to the medical profession in which a physician takes a holistic view of the patient. They do not simply look at a runny nose and bad cough and think that there must be a problem with the individual s nose and lungs. They look at all symptoms, how they are related, and what course of action is required to remedy all associated symptoms of a common cold. A final important reason to conduct analysis is to determine if the changes made to the organization are actually working. In today s society, stadia have evolved to become massive multi purpose stadiums that have helped to define and identify the culture and ethos of the surrounding community. With societies push to more of an entertainment culture, more and more stadia are being built in order to accommodate the popularity of sports, music, comedy, and drama. This increase in attendance and popularity has caused stadia today to become highly intricate, requiring millions and sometimes billions of dollars to be used in order to create a not only massive, but also safe atmosphere where people can gather to enjoy their chosen spectacle. I Was A Little Nervous Part One (329 words): I was a little nervous about not only trying to perform the Stunning Spell, but also having this spell cast upon me, due to the fact that it renders it s victim unconscious. I also did not expect the effect to be instantaneous. Once my partner was ready and stood surrounded by cushions, I raised my wand and brought it back down in a quick slashing motion, Stupefy! . As a flash of blue light left my wand towards my partner, she immediately fell backwards onto the cushions. I found it quite difficult to focus on making the spell effective as I did not want to cause her any permanent harm, however, I found that just thinking about her becoming still was enough to get the spell to work this time, although I know that ... I must admit that I did laugh a little when I saw the look of frustration in his eyes. Part Two (209 words): Now we moved onto practicing the counters. Seeing as we had all tried the spells, we decided it was only fair that we all practiced the counters as well. First, one of my partners performed the Stunning Spell to our other partner and allowed me to practice the counter. Once our partner was on the ground, I pointed my wand straight at her chest and said Rennervate . As the bright red light shot from my wand, I kept focusing on her waking up and sitting up. After a few seconds she did just that, which I was thankful for as my focus was starting to waver a little. When it came to the Full Body Bind Curse Counter, I volunteered to be the one that needed it. I tried to fight the curse as it hit me, but there was no way to and I was on the floor in seconds. Laying there I heard one of my partners say Petrificus Removere and I could see his wand move in a clockwise motion before the golden mist started to wrap itself around me. I could feel my muscles start to relax from my toes upwards through my whole body until I was eventually able to move and sit up. • 37. Laundry Detergents As A Cleansing Agent Introduction Laundry detergents are a cleansing agent that is widely used in the industry to clean laundry. The term detergent refers to mixtures of chemical compounds including Alkyl Sulphonates, which are similar to soap but less affected by hard water (Farlex, 2014). Like soap, detergent increases the ability of water to penetrate fabric and break down greases and dirt, however they are derived from organic acids rather than fatty acids (Mifflin, 2005). A detergent is an ion or molecule that contains both polar and nonpolar components. The polar component allows the detergent to dissolve in the water, whereas the nonpolar component solubilizes greasy materials that are the usual target of the cleaning process. Their molecules then surround the particles of grease and dirt, allowing them to be carried away thus leaving your clothes clean. This EEI explores the performance of two different laundry powders (Fab and Woolworths select Home brand) in different types of water; ranging from soft to hard. These detergents were compared and analysed in different types of water from varying locations to determine whether water hardness has an effect on the cleaning ability of detergents, and whether products should be specifically formulated depending on the type of water. Basic laundry powders Laundry detergents such as Fab and Woolworths Select Home brand are composed of many elements that each play important roles in the laundry process depending on the cleaning tasks ... In order for him to have surpassed the legend he need to tweak the team chemistry and player like a player who has a unique usage for a team. I just wonder what the locker room has to be like when Russ wins the game for his team along with getting season awards such as player of the week. I have so many wonders, but Russel Westbrooks play this season is the most intriguing that I have. This season Russel Westbrook averaged a triple double and surpassed Oscar Roberson for most triple doubles in a season with forty three. He averaged 31 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. In order for him to have been able to average a triple double this season had to at least have one in forty one of the eighty two season games. The Disney Film Version Of Alice The Disney film version of Alice in wonderland when compared to the The novel Alice in wonderland by Carroll Lewis, expresses a variety of changes which can alter ideological values. Disney is well known for taking classic stories and fabricating them for a wider audience. This form of fabrication can be beneficial, especially in regards to creating various messages that are intended to be perceived by audiences. Other instances the changes are small and less note worthy. The images left out by Disney alter the ideologies that are expressed. Much of the Disney film version is quite consistent with the book, with the addition of certain aspects added from Alice through the looking glass. One crucial alteration added to the Disney film version is the implication that Alice created wonderland; why in my world cats and rabbits would reside in fancy houses (Disney). As seen in the first scene when Alice is singing to herself. This crucial addition to the Disney film version of Alice in wonderland changes overall themes of the film. It introduces the stresses Alice is dealing with, and her strategy to cope with these strategies. Alice uses wonderland as a form of escapism to avoid social constructs, which ultimately allows for growth. The pressures of society can apply an overwhelming strain on individuals. In particular, girls. The visual appearance of Alice in the Disney film version is slightly altered from the novel. In the Disney film Alice appears to be a young lady of ... • 41. Emily Dickinson s Poetry And Poetry Emily Dickinson s poems They shut me up in Prose and I Dwell in Possibility on the surface may seem similar, both having the same structure, three four lined stanzas, and punctuation. However, they convey different messages. Typically Dickinson writes dark, meditative and defiant toned poems about death, gender and poetry itself, often challenging social beliefs and traditions. Each poem sticks to these pre modernist views and styles, but place the emphasis on different aspects of her common themes. Although the poems are similar in form and their uses of metaphors, the focus of these poems are different, I dwell in Possibility focuses on the limitless possibilities of poetry and the power associated with it, while They shut me up in Prose discusses the role of a female poet being free of social restraints in a mans world through poetry, together these individual themes convey Dickinson s emphatic view of poetry s ability to free women from social prejudices. In I dwell in Possibility Emily Dickenson compares poetry to prose in the first few lines. Prose is written in the normal syntax of everyday conversation. It has no metrical structure, as well; it is tedious and lacks expression. After the first two lines however, prose is not mentioned any further. This could possibly be because there is not much left to desired in prose or Dickinson is refraining from giving prose any further recognition. To Dickinson, poetry is limitless in possibilities, which she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He also hints at how a wall might affect a particular society. The poem is a conversation between two neighbors on either side of a wall. The main speaker amp;#8217;s conversation shows his views about the purpose of the wall, and it amp;#8217;s effectiveness to either bring people together, or it amp;#8217;s tendency to separate them. The main speaker amp;#8217;s conversation shows his feelings about the purpose of the wall. His monotonous feeling toward mending the wall shows his reluctance to having the wall. In his ... Though the two don amp;#8217;t speak much about meaningful things they are still together. And maybe this is why the second speaker thinks that amp;#8220;Good fences make good neighbors ; (27). The speaker contradicts his early view of the wall amp;#8217;s ability to bring people together when he shows how the wall separates people. He demonstrates this when he says, amp;#8220;And set the wall between us once again we keep the wall between us as we go ; (14). Even at the time when the two are mending the wall there is no conversation about each of their personal lives. Instead all that they talk about is the object that separates them, the wall. The wall seems to take away from them becoming more knowledgeable about each other amp;#8217;s lives, which often hinders a friendship. The speaker also refers to a wall as giving separation through offense when he says, amp;#8220;And to whom I was like to give offense ; (34). This poem offers a holistic view of a wall and it amp;#8217;s affect on neighbors. This aspect of the poem allows the reader to decide on the need for a wall. Walls serve many purposes in society like boundaries, defense, and offense. But should society as a whole let wall separate itself from one another. So the question still stands do walls or fences really make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is this combination of unpredictability and ignorance that led Dr. Barry Commoner, one of our nation s most eminent biologists, to conclude: The genetically engineered crops now being grown represent a massive uncontrolled experiment whose outcome is inherently unpredictable. The results could be catastrophic. (Commoner) Allergies are often overlooked, especially when weighed against the potential benefits of a new drug. Yet they affect a large number of people (about 2.5% of American adults and 6 8% of children, or 8 million in the U.S.), and the incidence of allergies has been rising in recent years for unknown reasons. Reactions are not limited to watery eyes; some experience intense itching and welts, others life threatening anaphylactic shock, which kills an estimated 150 Americans each year. If a plant grown drug with allergenic properties were to contaminate the food supply, unsuspecting individuals prone to allergies would be unable to take any action to avoid consuming the contaminated food, with potentially fatal consequences.
